- 0:21Speaker 1: you follow? Found me over what It's ride? Evidently the
- 0:27Speaker 1: one thing that I heard of my inspection yesterday. That's
- 0:30Speaker 1: what Paul is annual physical out of felger maas yesterday
- 0:34Speaker 1: and my engine light was off. Good time to start
- 0:37Speaker 1: time in at least three weeks. Paul streets his car
- 0:39Speaker 1: like his body. I'm I like what Alex is getting
- 0:43Speaker 1: into on Twitter and all that stuff, but a like
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm the Celtics. I'm like the people working for the

- 0:59Speaker 1: show where people are listening? I hear them on the
- 1:01Speaker 1: rate on the weekends all the time. I heard a
- 1:05Speaker 1: regular guest, this is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:14Speaker 1: Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Jules Stadium,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and we're coming off a loss to the Baltimore Ravens,
- 1:22Speaker 1: and uh, a lot of anxiety coming out of that loss,
- 1:27Speaker 1: not because of the team, but of course I'm talking
- 1:30Speaker 1: about the injury to Mac Jones. And it's unclear as
- 1:34Speaker 1: to the extent of it, but reports have it as
- 1:37Speaker 1: a severe high ankle spring. Pretty pretty severe, pretty severe,
- 1:42Speaker 1: very severe. Nah. Yeah, but on the severe spectrum, it's
- 1:44Speaker 1: according to Mac, he's just taking a day to day,
- 1:47Speaker 1: just getting treatment day by day. Yeah. That was That
- 1:51Speaker 1: was a classic press conference that he had yesterday on Zoom.
- 1:54Speaker 1: But we'll talk about that a little later. But first,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know, I just want to start right off the

- 2:41Speaker 1: It's gonna it's really exciting. NFL all day dot Com
- 2:46Speaker 1: like it, Yeah, all day long. Yep. So okay, all right,
- 2:51Speaker 1: yeah I like it. Um. But getting back to what
- 2:54Speaker 1: we were talking about, Yeah, the game. You know, I
- 2:58Speaker 1: think we were doing the post game show with Hardy
- 3:01Speaker 1: and he to me, he summed it up though in
- 3:03Speaker 1: terms of the game itself, I didn't come out of
- 3:06Speaker 1: that game with any different feelings about the Patriots than
- 3:10Speaker 1: they did going in. You know, yeah, I would agree,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I think we all agreed on that, Yeah, Sunday.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I mean, the unfortunate part for me was a good
- 3:19Speaker 1: start and feeling like, you know, a first few possessions.
- 3:22Speaker 1: They at least had something for Lamar. They made him
- 3:24Speaker 1: pun a couple of times, and offensively, it felt like,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, Mac was making some plays and they were
- 3:29Speaker 1: they were pushing them ball down the field again and
- 3:32Speaker 1: clearly DeVante Parker had a great game. But it's just
- 3:35Speaker 1: the mistakes, you know, And I think the thing that's
- 3:36Speaker 1: been bugging me here in the last like you know,
- 3:38Speaker 1: twenty four to forty eight hours is just you know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: where's the progress? Band? Like that's what you're itching for,
- 3:43Speaker 1: Like it's just killing yourself with the mistakes. And I
- 3:46Speaker 1: just that that that's what's just so frustrating, is that
- 3:50Speaker 1: they had an opportunity to at least hang in there
- 3:52Speaker 1: to the end, but they killed themselves. They killed themselves
- 3:55Speaker 1: and that and they just can't can't keep doing this
- 3:58Speaker 1: these things and at what point is it going to
- 4:00Speaker 1: turn around? And you know, and then and then just
- 4:02Speaker 1: the mac injury happens and it kind of brush I
- 4:04Speaker 1: don't want to say, it brushes under the rug as
- 4:06Speaker 1: if you're not thinking about anymore. It just changes the
- 4:08Speaker 1: whole dynamic right now of what you're thinking, what you're expecting,
- 4:10Speaker 1: what your hopes are for you know, however long he's
- 4:13Speaker 1: going to potentially be out. So um yeah, just just
- 4:17Speaker 1: rough rough, rough twenty four. I'm just gonna say what
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm trying to figure out, you know, along those lines
- 4:22Speaker 1: what you guys are talking about, is, you know, is
- 4:25Speaker 1: it something that it's just what they are now or
- 4:31Speaker 1: can they be something better than this if they can
- 4:34Speaker 1: sort of correct the mistakes and I know, like people
- 4:37Speaker 1: will say, well, of course they can correct the mistakes
- 4:39Speaker 1: and they'd be better. But sometimes that's what you are,
- 4:44Speaker 1: you know, sometimes like you okay, this this game it
- 4:47Speaker 1: was turnovers. With four turnovers. There weren't a ton of penalties.
- 4:49Speaker 1: There were a couple, um, but this game it was turnovers.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Next game it might be something different, you know, next
- 4:56Speaker 1: game it might be communication breakdowns. Uh, you know somewhere. Um.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I think that when when you're a team that's sort
- 5:03Speaker 1: of average, and I think we all kind of anticipated
- 5:05Speaker 1: this team being somewhat average. I think that's what ends
- 5:10Speaker 1: up happening. Is something happens that prevents you from being
- 5:15Speaker 1: as good as you look when you're playing your best
- 5:17Speaker 1: on a consistent basis. And I think it's been penalties.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It's been turnovers, it's been you know, missed assignments. In
- 5:23Speaker 1: the first game upfront and the offensive line, I thought
- 5:26Speaker 1: there were times where the running game looked good. Other times,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you know, short yardage it hasn't looked great. You know,
- 5:30Speaker 1: like just it seems to be something different all the time.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Special team's been kind of creeping up a little bit.
- 5:38Speaker 1: That was a big that was a big play in
- 5:41Speaker 1: the game. You know, it's like twenty eight twenty. You
- 5:43Speaker 1: get stopped. Okay, defense, go out and get us to stop.
- 5:45Speaker 1: You get up a forty three yard reacher or twenty
- 5:48Speaker 1: it was it. No, it's twenty twenty one, twenty twenty
- 5:52Speaker 1: one twenty. The Ravens had just taken the lead at
- 5:55Speaker 1: twenty one twenty, and the Patriots don't answer. Okay, I
- 5:59Speaker 1: mean you don't. You know, they had a pretty good
- 6:00Speaker 1: day offensively, they didn't score that particular time, and you
- 6:03Speaker 1: give up a forty three yard part return to give
- 6:05Speaker 1: him a short field and they and they get out
- 6:07Speaker 1: and score again, right, you know, like that's the kind
- 6:09Speaker 1: of stuff that they're not closed. Can't happen. They're not closers. No,
- 6:13Speaker 1: they're not closers. And I mean, I think the other
- 6:15Speaker 1: point to make for me too is just like we
- 6:17Speaker 1: got Lamard, Like you know, there's also a certain extent
- 6:20Speaker 1: of just like this is an MVP kind of guy
- 6:23Speaker 1: who had an MVP kind of game against this defense,
- 6:26Speaker 1: and it hurts that they weren't able to figure him out.
- 6:29Speaker 1: But a lot of teams can't figure him out. So
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know that that's my little bit of like, all right,
- 6:33Speaker 1: well that makes me feel a little bit better, Like,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, things are you know, certainly gonna change. And
- 6:37Speaker 1: this week with Aaron Rodgers, we're gonna get a whole
- 6:38Speaker 1: new kind of set of challenges. But again another player
- 6:42Speaker 1: who can just go off and beat you single handedly.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So you know, at some point they they'll have to
- 6:47Speaker 1: put together a game to you know, knock these guys
- 6:49Speaker 1: out and play good, you know, down to the end.
- 6:51Speaker 1: The red zone stuff. They just they couldn't make those
- 6:52Speaker 1: key plays at the end. You know, going into this
- 6:54Speaker 1: season like I wasn't sure what am I looking at?
- 6:58Speaker 1: You know, from preseason. I went into the season saying,
- 7:02Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm looking at. I don't know
- 7:03Speaker 1: what I'm looking at. So every game for me is
- 7:07Speaker 1: a learning experience, you know. I learn a little bit
- 7:10Speaker 1: more now max out, you know, and it's like, oh,
- 7:15Speaker 1: well that derails everything, right, you know, now I really
- 7:18Speaker 1: can't figure out really what's going on. But you know, Paul,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you and I were talking about it the other day,
- 7:24Speaker 1: and maybe, you know, if you want to look at
- 7:26Speaker 1: it on the bright side and try to get some
- 7:29Speaker 1: type of silver lining out of this, maybe with Mac
- 7:32Speaker 1: being out for a few weeks at least you'll be
- 7:35Speaker 1: able to figure out, Okay, what do we have on offense,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you know, aside from Mac, because Hoyer knows how to
- 7:42Speaker 1: run it. It's not like you're going to be bringing
- 7:44Speaker 1: in somebody from the outside who has no clue and
- 7:47Speaker 1: you have to just dumb it down. Hoyer can run
- 7:50Speaker 1: the entire playbook. So maybe we'll get an idea of
- 7:54Speaker 1: who are the weapons that Mac has? Right, so when
- 7:58Speaker 1: Mac comes back, you're like, Okay, it's he it's because
- 8:03Speaker 1: of the weapons they're not doing well, or he's got
- 8:06Speaker 1: the weapons. It's Mac. Yeah, So maybe this will give
- 8:09Speaker 1: us a little bit more insight into what's around Mac. Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I see what you're saying, and I mean just I
- 8:16Speaker 1: you know, I hesitate to say. Oh, you know, Howyer
- 8:19Speaker 1: comes out and he loves little Jordan Humphrey and Litle
- 8:22Speaker 1: Jordan Humphrey's getting six seventy eight catches. Does that mean
- 8:24Speaker 1: that little Jordan Humphrey was actually good the whole time
- 8:27Speaker 1: or that Hoyer just kind of knows him? So I
- 8:29Speaker 1: don't know. I'm stuck in the middle on that one,
- 8:30Speaker 1: but I do and Mac get to know little Jordan Humphrey.
- 8:34Speaker 1: But but but I do. I do. I am intrigued
- 8:37Speaker 1: by the fact that Brian Hoyer has played in multiple offenses.
- 8:40Speaker 1: He's an experienced quarterback. I know we'd never get the
- 8:43Speaker 1: real answer out of him, but I'd love to hear
- 8:44Speaker 1: what his actual perspective is on what they're doing on
- 8:47Speaker 1: offense and what these changes are and how he kind
- 8:49Speaker 1: of used these things. That's interesting because like the point
- 8:52Speaker 1: you made, like we know that Hoyer knows the offense,
- 8:54Speaker 1: do we like if if this is different, then he's
- 8:57Speaker 1: the same spot that mac Jones is. Well, all I
- 8:59Speaker 1: know is that on the sideline Hoyer talks to Max sometimes.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I'm assuming he does. Yeah, I would assume that as well.
- 9:06Speaker 1: But I just I think it's interesting, like we just
- 9:08Speaker 1: automatically assume that he knows what he's doing. I don't
- 9:11Speaker 1: think he's been in this offense. Maybe he hasn't one
- 9:14Speaker 1: of his stops, I don't. I don't know. But the
- 9:18Speaker 1: bigger thing to me for mac Jones, and again this
- 9:20Speaker 1: is I'm not trying to say that this is a
- 9:23Speaker 1: you know, a great thing or blessing in disguise is
- 9:25Speaker 1: too strong. But I think he's struggling. I think he
- 9:31Speaker 1: is mentally and physically beaten down right now a little bit,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and I think he might benefit a little bit from
- 9:37Speaker 1: some time off now. I don't know. These sort of
- 9:40Speaker 1: updates are confusing me, you know, with Mac Jones, Like
- 9:43Speaker 1: the inclusion that Adam Schefter had in the middle of
- 9:46Speaker 1: his tweet about an injury that would cause most to
- 9:50Speaker 1: get surgery, I think can be interpreted so many different ways.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Are they say, is he saying that they're trying to
- 9:57Speaker 1: get him to have surgery and he won't or Superman?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah exactly? Is Max so tough that what would cause
- 10:04Speaker 1: mere mortals to undergo surgery is not? Jes Like, I
- 10:09Speaker 1: don't have any idea why a national reporter would include
- 10:12Speaker 1: that in a tweet. There's so much vagary going on
- 10:16Speaker 1: right now. And now I just saw a report that
- 10:18Speaker 1: Mac wants to get a second opinion from some guy
- 10:21Speaker 1: in Brooklyn that does the gnats Brooklyn. I heard, you know, Alabama,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I heard Green Bay. Like it's all over the map
- 10:27Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, so I think the bottom line and
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'm kind of hoping by the way, Teddy Johnson he's
- 10:35Speaker 1: a sneaky evil like like like the stuff he says
- 10:39Speaker 1: about this team, like today he was insinuating that our
- 10:42Speaker 1: training staff is dirty, like they're just not on the
- 10:46Speaker 1: up and up, and it's I think all NFL players
- 10:48Speaker 1: think that that that's not like, look, look what the
- 10:50Speaker 1: way they treat the Chargers. Well, I know they had
- 10:52Speaker 1: another one this week, I know, but be careful, you know. No,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I think all players are very skeptical of their team's
- 10:59Speaker 1: medical staff. Yeah. I don't think that's a thing that's
- 11:02Speaker 1: unique to Ted Johnson, but I just I hope for
- 11:08Speaker 1: Mac's sake that he at least gets a couple of
- 11:10Speaker 1: weeks to sort of step back and watch, because I
- 11:14Speaker 1: think you can benefit, especially as a young guy, sometimes
- 11:17Speaker 1: from watching. He's never had that opportunity he started day one. Listen,
- 11:22Speaker 1: I'm not trying to say this is a good thing
- 11:24Speaker 1: he's going to be. I'm just saying there are things
- 11:27Speaker 1: that he can benefit from. Take a step back. All
- 11:31Speaker 1: of a sudden, he'll have a week or two maybe
- 11:33Speaker 1: where he doesn't feel like the weight of the world
- 11:35Speaker 1: is on his shoulders, and maybe he can sort of
- 11:37Speaker 1: relax and get some perspective watching Brian Hoyer play a
- 11:40Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, I don't think that's out of the realm.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Of possibility. I'm not. Please don't attack me for being,
- 11:46Speaker 1: you know, whistling past the graveyard and ignoring the problems.
- 11:50Speaker 1: There's a lot of problems here, and having your quarterback
- 11:53Speaker 1: get hurt is not a good thing. I'm just trying
- 11:55Speaker 1: to make the best of it. Yeah, I mean, I think.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I mean, i'd agree with you to an extent. I
- 11:59Speaker 1: think if he is out for like you said, a
- 12:01Speaker 1: couple of weeks, he's out for six to eight weeks. Oh,
- 12:04Speaker 1: that's different, though, we don't know at this point. It's
- 12:07Speaker 1: a different argument possible that that he you know, that
- 12:09Speaker 1: that he's going to come back at the end of
- 12:11Speaker 1: the season and maybe get a few games to wrap up.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. I mean, right now,
- 12:14Speaker 1: the way they're rolling him out for press conferences, it's like, well,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I'm going to try to play this weekend. I don't
- 12:18Speaker 1: know what they're doing. I think they're at the very
- 12:20Speaker 1: least trying to put on the illusion that he might
- 12:22Speaker 1: be able to play this week, don't don't you? Yes,
- 12:25Speaker 1: But isn't that silly? Yes? Yeah, Well, I just think, yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I think, Um, anytime that you're spending worrying about what
- 12:33Speaker 1: it looks like, from the outside to me, is wasted time. Yeah,
- 12:37Speaker 1: it's wasted time that you could be doing. I could
- 12:38Speaker 1: see you doing that if there was even the slimmest chance,
- 12:42Speaker 1: But it doesn't sound like that even exists, right right, Well, yeah,
- 12:45Speaker 1: I mean I could. Maybe we're all wrong and maybe
- 12:48Speaker 1: the information we're getting is bad and he does have
- 12:51Speaker 1: a chance, But I can't everything i've heard. There's no
- 12:55Speaker 1: shot of him playing this week. I can't believe he
- 12:57Speaker 1: talked yesterday. I kept waiting for them to move it,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and it just wouldn't move, and the other two guys went,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and then finally Mac went, and I would just this
- 13:05Speaker 1: is ridiculous, Like I mean, and they were already, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: making fun of him on ninety eight five that with
- 13:10Speaker 1: cut ups of day by day, a day by day,
- 13:12Speaker 1: over and over and over again. You know, I thought
- 13:15Speaker 1: he was, well, keep my thoughts on it to myself.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I guess, Oh, I'm intrigued. I thought that was kind
- 13:21Speaker 1: of a fireback at Belichick. I feel like that was
- 13:25Speaker 1: before they went in the press conference. It was they asked,
- 13:28Speaker 1: your day to day by day, you're gonna direct all
- 13:30Speaker 1: injury questions to Bill, you know, like that's what I
- 13:32Speaker 1: But what's the point, you know, speak after the game?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Why are we doing this? I mean it seemed like
- 13:38Speaker 1: you said, then you don't have to do this. Then
- 13:40Speaker 1: you don't have to do this if you But I
- 13:44Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, Chris was saying upstairs like that,
- 13:46Speaker 1: maybe he has to, like it's part of his responsibility,
- 13:49Speaker 1: Like you can pull a guy if he's injured, though, right,
- 13:51Speaker 1: like it doesn't he doesn't have to. I mean, well,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think does a rule in the NFL the starting
- 13:55Speaker 1: quarterback has to speak once during the week and after
- 13:59Speaker 1: the game. Yeah, right, so we'll see so it's twice, Yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 1: we'll see. Well, that's why I said they should have
- 14:04Speaker 1: just had him talked after the game. They did the
- 14:06Speaker 1: same thing in Week one. Yeah, you're not helping him
- 14:08Speaker 1: by doing so. I wonder if the Patriots think them,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you know, while he was hurt. There's an exception for
- 14:13Speaker 1: injured players. He spoke on Wednesday, I mean on Monday.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So now nobody has to speak. Who plays the quarterback
- 14:20Speaker 1: position for the rest of the week. I don't know.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I don't know. That'll be interesting to see what happens
- 14:26Speaker 1: on Wednesday or you know, even like you know, Brady
- 14:29Speaker 1: used to speak different days a lot of times. By
- 14:32Speaker 1: the end, he was always on Fridays. Yeah, I feel
- 14:34Speaker 1: like I want to do a Paul thing right here
- 14:36Speaker 1: and be like Paul A few were the Packers. How
- 14:38Speaker 1: much difference would it make to you if you're facing
- 14:40Speaker 1: mat like yeah, Like are they like, oh my god,
- 14:44Speaker 1: we have to I saw something on Draft Kings, and
- 14:50Speaker 1: I might be off by a half a point here there,
- 14:53Speaker 1: but I think it went from six and a half
- 14:54Speaker 1: to eight the spread, So I don't think it's a
- 14:59Speaker 1: huge difference. I really don't. I think it was a
- 15:02Speaker 1: point and a half with the Sharps and big. If
- 15:05Speaker 1: you were going from like one to three, that's big.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Six and a half to eight. They're telling you the
- 15:09Speaker 1: other team is a touchdown better than you either way,
- 15:11Speaker 1: is what I'm saying. It's not that big a deal.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And you think going from starting quarterback to a backup
- 15:17Speaker 1: quarterback a point and a half is a big deal,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I don't. I just think in general, a point and
- 15:22Speaker 1: a half can make can move can move the needle
- 15:24Speaker 1: in general, Yes, But I don't think going from a
- 15:26Speaker 1: backup quarterback to a starting quarterback that's a big deal. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 1: you know, like, oh yeah, I think that the Bengals
- 15:32Speaker 1: went from underdogs in Dallas to seven point favorites when
- 15:35Speaker 1: it went from Dak Prescott. No, if it would Brady,
- 15:38Speaker 1: it would be like and then they lost, it would
- 15:40Speaker 1: be like one to eight. You know. Yeah, that's my point, right,
- 15:43Speaker 1: that's my point. There's Chargers line last week that was
- 15:46Speaker 1: a big move too. That. Yeah, I'm not insinuating. Yeah,
- 15:48Speaker 1: you're you're right, Fred, a point and a half is
- 15:50Speaker 1: a big deal in gambling parlance. I just don't think
- 15:53Speaker 1: from a starting quarterback to a back right, And I
- 15:55Speaker 1: honestly don't think the Patriots chances are any different. No, Sunday,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I gotta be honest, I've got some interesting things to
- 16:02Speaker 1: talk about later in the week, So I'll hold it.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Why are you holding it to the later in the week.
- 16:07Speaker 1: We need content now? No, no, no, no, we can
- 16:09Speaker 1: pound it all. We can pound it all week. Man,
- 16:13Speaker 1: teach him how to do it. You have that good stuff,
- 16:15Speaker 1: you throw it out there and then you just hammer
- 16:17Speaker 1: it home. All in due time. I think Patriots fans
- 16:18Speaker 1: are gonna like what I have to say later in
- 16:20Speaker 1: the week. Oh, I think there's gonna be a rallying.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I think there's a couple of things I'm reading between
- 16:25Speaker 1: the lines, and I haven't had a chance to talk
- 16:27Speaker 1: to Fred about this because I was busy this morning
- 16:29Speaker 1: tape in all Access. I think Fred he knows, he
- 16:33Speaker 1: knows what he did last week. You know what he did, Mike,
- 16:36Speaker 1: What did he picked Baltimore? Yeah, he picked Baltimore and
- 16:41Speaker 1: then he was right. So he's probably not feeling great
- 16:43Speaker 1: about that. No, that's not it at all, and he's
- 16:47Speaker 1: taking his penance and there's gonna be nine I got
- 16:49Speaker 1: to pick them the loose sometimes. This week he's going
- 16:51Speaker 1: to rally the troops. Oh it's not lost this week,
- 16:56Speaker 1: lambeau Field. One thing I do want to say, and
- 16:59Speaker 1: I agree with you, Paul, maybe this might be a
- 17:02Speaker 1: good thing for Mac to just sit and watch and
- 17:05Speaker 1: because there is a lot of pressure on him and
- 17:07Speaker 1: all that. But I gotta pushback on all these people
- 17:11Speaker 1: saying that he's worse this year than he was last year.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I don't think he is. I think he's being asked
- 17:16Speaker 1: to do more this year, and I think he's making
- 17:18Speaker 1: more mistakes as a result. But again, like I said,
- 17:22Speaker 1: these are the mistakes that a rookie makes and he
- 17:25Speaker 1: was prevented from making them last year. He was protected
- 17:28Speaker 1: last year. This year, I think he's not as protected
- 17:31Speaker 1: as much, and he's making those mistakes and I'm okay
- 17:34Speaker 1: with them. I'm okay with him making those mistakes. You've
- 17:37Speaker 1: got it. The only way you get better in this
- 17:39Speaker 1: league is through experience, and you can't get that experience
- 17:43Speaker 1: if you're kept in a box every game, which I
- 17:46Speaker 1: think to a large extent he was last year. This year,
- 17:49Speaker 1: I think he's let loose a little bit more and
- 17:51Speaker 1: he looks like, you know, it's a little bit tougher.
- 17:53Speaker 1: But I'm okay with I don't think you know, from
- 17:57Speaker 1: looking at him, I don't think he's worse than last year.
- 17:59Speaker 1: A lot of people saying, oh, he's rick rassed and
- 18:01Speaker 1: he's not as good as last year. He was much
- 18:03Speaker 1: better last year than this year. I disagree. I disagree
- 18:07Speaker 1: just from Yeah, the results may not be as good,
- 18:10Speaker 1: but just watching him as a quarterback, I don't think
- 18:13Speaker 1: he's worse than he was last year. Yeah. I mean,
- 18:16Speaker 1: I think I think he's missing throws, and I think
- 18:18Speaker 1: that he's missing throws that did him as last year.
- 18:20Speaker 1: But the more that people come out after these games
- 18:23Speaker 1: and break down what they're trying to do on offense.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I think, you know, more people feel like he's not
- 18:28Speaker 1: really being put in the best position to succeed. You have,
- 18:31Speaker 1: you know, basically like throw everything out like a fledgling
- 18:35Speaker 1: offensive coordinator who you know is I mean, I think
- 18:39Speaker 1: a lot of these plays that they screwed up, the
- 18:41Speaker 1: fourth down plays, the near pick, they're kind of the
- 18:43Speaker 1: same concepts that they're trying to run over and over again,
- 18:46Speaker 1: and you're like that, They're all, why do they keep
- 18:48Speaker 1: trying to do these simple things? There was some growth
- 18:51Speaker 1: last week, but you know, I don't think there's any
- 18:53Speaker 1: question if you know, if Josh mctails had stayed that
- 18:56Speaker 1: it would look a lot different. And you know, I
- 18:58Speaker 1: think Josh everything and you can say about him like
- 19:00Speaker 1: at least he knew like how to scheme stuff up,
- 19:04Speaker 1: He knew how to set things up. He felt like
- 19:06Speaker 1: there was a you know, a plan overall and where
- 19:09Speaker 1: they're going with the offense, you know, not just over
- 19:11Speaker 1: the season, but in the course of a game and
- 19:13Speaker 1: setting things up for later. I mean, I know Baddard
- 19:15Speaker 1: was going off on the play action stuff where you
- 19:17Speaker 1: can't just run play action out of nowhere and expects
- 19:19Speaker 1: to work when you haven't been running the ball. Um,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, So I disagree with that, That's okay. I
- 19:24Speaker 1: just think, you know, it's it's too little, too late
- 19:27Speaker 1: right now. And and I don't think they put him
- 19:29Speaker 1: in position. And I'm I'm just I'm I'm down about
- 19:31Speaker 1: the attack. And I get that they're trying to push
- 19:33Speaker 1: the ball down the field. And you know, we've been
- 19:35Speaker 1: talking about this forever that oh they need to you know,
- 19:37Speaker 1: get more explosive, and but that's a difference to it.
- 19:39Speaker 1: And you might be right there. I'm I'm just talking
- 19:42Speaker 1: about Mac as a player, like doing what they're asking
- 19:45Speaker 1: him to do. No, I agree with you on that.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I think you miss stuff right what they're taking semantics argument. Yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: so I'm not going to disagree with that. I'm not
- 19:54Speaker 1: gonna know. I'm not gonna disagree with either one of you.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But you know, like missing throws like last year, his
- 20:00Speaker 1: first thing was to look short. If his first look
- 20:04Speaker 1: in the progression now is to look long, but I
- 20:06Speaker 1: think he's gonna miss the first to Mike's point, and
- 20:08Speaker 1: this is why I again, I don't disagree with either
- 20:11Speaker 1: one of you, even though you kind of both said
- 20:13Speaker 1: different things, like Mike saying he's missing some throws, some
- 20:15Speaker 1: of the throws that he's missing the short ones. He's
- 20:18Speaker 1: a missing short receivers at times. And then when he's
- 20:21Speaker 1: throwing short he's been extremely fortunate not to have three
- 20:24Speaker 1: of them return for touchdowns, one in each game. That
- 20:27Speaker 1: the out in Miami, the one he hit Sutton with
- 20:30Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh, and this one was the most egregious on
- 20:33Speaker 1: the goal line that he hit Patrick Queen right in
- 20:35Speaker 1: the six. Like, those are throws that he didn't do
- 20:38Speaker 1: last year, and those were all short throws. Those are
- 20:41Speaker 1: inside of ten yards and all three and I'm saying
- 20:43Speaker 1: those are throws he would have done last year had
- 20:46Speaker 1: he'd been not protected. I mean, I think those are
- 20:50Speaker 1: all short throws that he made last year. Constantly, this
- 20:53Speaker 1: is what I'm saying. I'm not judging him on missing
- 20:56Speaker 1: a guy on a bomb like the bomb to Parker. Yeah,
- 20:59Speaker 1: he was he protected away from making that throw last year.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You're right. I think that's why I think it's a
- 21:04Speaker 1: semantics thing. I think there were definitely things that he
- 21:06Speaker 1: was protected from last year. But I also think Mike
- 21:09Speaker 1: is right, and there are things that he did last
- 21:11Speaker 1: year that he's not doing as well this year. Yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I think he's being asked to think more and I
- 21:18Speaker 1: think that that contributes to those mistakes that you're talking about.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And that's why I think he might again might be
- 21:25Speaker 1: beneficial to just sit, sit and watch and stop putting
- 21:29Speaker 1: the weight of the cold take a ball on himself
- 21:31Speaker 1: all the time, but take up breath. But how do
- 21:33Speaker 1: you view the interceptions. I think that that's probably the
- 21:35Speaker 1: area that drill down on because I don't I wouldn't
- 21:37Speaker 1: necessarily fault those entirely on scheme. I mean, I know
- 21:40Speaker 1: there are communication issues on the Parker one in the
- 21:43Speaker 1: end zone, but you know those are plays you didn't
- 21:46Speaker 1: see him really make last year. That It's hard to
- 21:47Speaker 1: really pin completely on the offensive design. It's just it's
- 21:51Speaker 1: about mental the mental mistakes that throw to me, he
- 21:55Speaker 1: has to he has to throw that away. I think
- 21:56Speaker 1: last year he would have thrown that away. I don't
- 21:59Speaker 1: think you would have thrown it to the back corner
- 22:00Speaker 1: and said, let me see if my guy can go
- 22:02Speaker 1: get it and make a play. Well, I mean to
- 22:03Speaker 1: you a point, I mean, and I would I would say,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'd almost prefer better communication before the snap to recognize
- 22:09Speaker 1: that you got a zero blitz coming and somebody's got
- 22:11Speaker 1: to get open like right away, and Nelson agil Are
- 22:13Speaker 1: cutting in the middle, needs to get his head around
- 22:15Speaker 1: and you know that's probably the place to go with
- 22:17Speaker 1: the ball. But you know, I just it's hard to
- 22:20Speaker 1: parse out what's max, what's max fault, what's the offense's fault,
- 22:24Speaker 1: you know what what are what are the receivers? You know,
- 22:26Speaker 1: not getting separation enough, Like it's hard to do it
- 22:29Speaker 1: right now. But I just that those are the plays
- 22:31Speaker 1: that I look out of the turnovers, because those are
- 22:33Speaker 1: the decisions that you didn't see him make last year.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And when he came in here, you thought he's not
- 22:39Speaker 1: going to make the critical mistakes that are going to
- 22:41Speaker 1: cost you the game. And I think that's what he
- 22:43Speaker 1: did in this game on the interception he threw in
- 22:46Speaker 1: the end zone intended for Parker. Yeah, so there's a
- 22:51Speaker 1: lot of footage now of him like being really angry,
- 22:55Speaker 1: not at himself on the sideline, but yelling at somebody else.
- 22:59Speaker 1: So I don't know what was going on. I think
- 23:00Speaker 1: he was yelling like I couldn't I was trying to
- 23:03Speaker 1: read his lips. At first, I was wondering if he
- 23:05Speaker 1: was arguing with somebody about the play called what do
- 23:07Speaker 1: we call that for? But watching it more and then
- 23:12Speaker 1: talking to some of the football guys, Um, they were
- 23:16Speaker 1: in cover four? And I heard Christian and talking about
- 23:20Speaker 1: this yesterday Fourier with and Wiggy talked about in the morning.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Fourier followed up with it. And then I talked to
- 23:25Speaker 1: his Zola last night a little bit about it, and yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 1: he thought it was They were right, it was cover four.
- 23:30Speaker 1: So now, like, what do we call that for? They
- 23:34Speaker 1: were in cover four? Like you could see, like you
- 23:36Speaker 1: could read the lips and they could cover four. What
- 23:39Speaker 1: are we doing? You know? What do we do? You know?
- 23:41Speaker 1: I think that he was. I think Parker made a mistake.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I don't think Parker was where he was supposed to be.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I think he didn't read the coverage the same way
- 23:48Speaker 1: Mac did. And I always always always side with the
- 23:51Speaker 1: quarterback on reading coverage. Um did Parker before the snap too?
- 23:55Speaker 1: Kind of like a confused look someone someone had had
- 23:59Speaker 1: had into hated that and that has been an issue
- 24:02Speaker 1: in some of these games with Parker pre snap. Now
- 24:06Speaker 1: I know that we got lost, you know, five for one,
- 24:08Speaker 1: fifty six, great game. There's there's still something to me missing. Now.
- 24:15Speaker 1: The one thing I'll say about Parker, I'm gonna give
- 24:17Speaker 1: him his due because I was very critical of this.
- 24:20Speaker 1: He was open. Only one of those uh five catches
- 24:23Speaker 1: was a contested catch, yet a beautiful Maybe the best
- 24:26Speaker 1: throw that I've ever seen mac Jodan's bake was the
- 24:29Speaker 1: throw on the back shoulder on the sideline in front
- 24:31Speaker 1: of the Ravens bandle. Yeah, that was a laser. That
- 24:34Speaker 1: was a really good throw. The other throws, the other plays,
- 24:37Speaker 1: Parker got open, so I want to you know, I've
- 24:40Speaker 1: been critical of his ability to uncover. He got opened
- 24:42Speaker 1: and made big plays down the field. But at the
- 24:45Speaker 1: same time, I believe he's been targeted fourteen times this year.
- 24:49Speaker 1: He's at least he's just about the same percentage to
- 24:53Speaker 1: catch it, to have it incomplete, or to have it intercepted.
- 24:58Speaker 1: He's got six catches, four times intended for him were
- 25:01Speaker 1: picked off and four times incomplete. Those aren't good numbers.
- 25:06Speaker 1: No spinning the dial. There were out of three fifty three, um.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And then we get, you know, into what you were
- 25:14Speaker 1: talking about earlier. You know, little Jordan Humphrey out there,
- 25:17Speaker 1: the number of reps he's getting as opposed to Kendrick Bourne.
- 25:21Speaker 1: And you know what the benefit is of having Humphrey
- 25:24Speaker 1: on the field as opposed to Born And does that
- 25:27Speaker 1: outweigh you know what's going on? You know, Um most
- 25:33Speaker 1: people I've been listening to say no, that you need
- 25:37Speaker 1: to get Born out there more. Um, there, there can't
- 25:40Speaker 1: be that much more of an advantage with Humphrey, you know,
- 25:44Speaker 1: changing it from twelve personnel to twenty two personnel. You know,
- 25:50Speaker 1: you know that having Born out there, you know, I agree, Yeah, Well,
- 25:55Speaker 1: I think the numbers interesting to me. It's just I
- 25:57Speaker 1: think it's it's Johnny Smith, Hunter Henry Little Jordan played
- 26:01Speaker 1: one one hundred and thirty two snaps combined and had
- 26:04Speaker 1: six targets combined, and Bourne played what like nineteen and
- 26:10Speaker 1: had six targets. So you know, not to say, oh,
- 26:12Speaker 1: we'll just target those guys more, but it's just I
- 26:14Speaker 1: think it just shows you're not getting any production out
- 26:16Speaker 1: of the guys you're playing. And and I also think
- 26:18Speaker 1: Bourne has like kind of skated on the fact that
- 26:21Speaker 1: he fumbled it. I know it was at the end
- 26:23Speaker 1: of the game, But I still think it's significant that
- 26:25Speaker 1: he put the ball on the ground and was respond
- 26:27Speaker 1: I don't know what was going on on that last
- 26:29Speaker 1: interception that Mac threw, where he seemed to just kind
- 26:31Speaker 1: of stop and Mac just kind of threw it up.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I mean, it didn't look like they were on but
- 26:37Speaker 1: like somehow when you recover your own fumble, they don't count. Yeah,
- 26:39Speaker 1: Like I agree with you, like something to consider everybody
- 26:42Speaker 1: that's banging the burns or I'm like, you know, we
- 26:44Speaker 1: talk about mistakes like, you know, that's that's something it was,
- 26:47Speaker 1: you know some Mike's point, it was eighteen snaps and
- 26:49Speaker 1: five targets. Yeah, so clearly, like to me, if for
- 26:52Speaker 1: no other reason he likes Mac likes throwing to him. Well,
- 26:55Speaker 1: if there's a common theme with the mistakes, it's that
- 26:57Speaker 1: they're all making them, right, Yes, you know they're they're
- 27:00Speaker 1: all making them. It's not just one guy or one
- 27:03Speaker 1: side of the ball or one position group. They're all
- 27:07Speaker 1: making them. That's why it's so hard to like drill
- 27:09Speaker 1: down on these issues because at the end of the day,
- 27:12Speaker 1: even in that game where they maybe played forty five
- 27:14Speaker 1: minutes of the game pretty solid, like you know, overall.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I mean, look, it's Lamar Jackson. I know he's gonna
- 27:19Speaker 1: make some plays, but you know, you just are. Now
- 27:21Speaker 1: I'm getting to the point where I just don't know
- 27:24Speaker 1: how different this season is from the last two seasons,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Like what the last three seasons, Like, what's really been
- 27:28Speaker 1: all that different between these teams? Like right now, they
- 27:31Speaker 1: all kind of seem similar to me that when it
- 27:33Speaker 1: goes great, it's a crappy team. They're gonna shoot themselves.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yeah we're gonna we're gonna handle them. But anytime there's
- 27:38Speaker 1: a team with a pulse, lately, we can't get out
- 27:41Speaker 1: of our own way. We get bad starts we're making.
- 27:43Speaker 1: You know, it's just the mistakes and that's the recurring
- 27:46Speaker 1: issue that until they clean up, what else really matters.
- 27:48Speaker 1: When you're gonna throw three interceptions in the fourth quarter,
- 27:51Speaker 1: like you're gonna lose every game with that, right, you
- 27:53Speaker 1: get four turnovers in the second half, probably gonna lose
- 27:55Speaker 1: the game. But I think just as just it's worth mentioning,
- 28:01Speaker 1: is like just sort of forget the turnovers. It's it
- 28:07Speaker 1: just seems like it's a different pattern all the time
- 28:10Speaker 1: when they lose, And that to me can be harder
- 28:13Speaker 1: to fix, you know. So this game, the offense, I
- 28:16Speaker 1: thought this was the best offensive game that they've had,
- 28:19Speaker 1: like in three it's only three games, but I thought
- 28:21Speaker 1: this was the best. They moved away at over four
- 28:22Speaker 1: hundred yards, you know, twenty six points. You know, it's
- 28:25Speaker 1: not like the you know, the the O seven Patriots,
- 28:28Speaker 1: but twenty you know, I'll take twenty six points most games.
- 28:30Speaker 1: You should have a chance. And they might have hit thirty,
- 28:33Speaker 1: you know, if they hadn't had the turnovers, you know, sure, yeah, no,
- 28:37Speaker 1: but I'm just I'm just sort of looking at it.
- 28:39Speaker 1: So they score a touchdow like they you know, and
- 28:41Speaker 1: Fred was on this, We talked about it Sunday in
- 28:42Speaker 1: the post game. They got the double score, the old
- 28:44Speaker 1: school double score, right, So they scored coming out of
- 28:47Speaker 1: the locker room and take the twenty to fourteen lead,
- 28:52Speaker 1: and they go right down the field, seventy five yards
- 28:54Speaker 1: right down the field, and it's twenty one twenty, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 1: like you get to stop there. And I think there
- 29:01Speaker 1: was a third and five earlier in that drive caught
- 29:04Speaker 1: a crosser for like twenty yards. You have a chance,
- 29:07Speaker 1: twenty to fourteen, we have the ball. I don't think
- 29:10Speaker 1: the Patriots had the ball with the lead in the game.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I don't think they ever had the ball in the
- 29:15Speaker 1: league right because every time they took the lead, they
- 29:19Speaker 1: coughed it right up. That's not like, that's not the
- 29:22Speaker 1: kind of complimentary football that twenty years of dominance was
- 29:25Speaker 1: built upon. And this is what you know. I had
- 29:28Speaker 1: nothing to do with turnovers, had nothing to do with
- 29:30Speaker 1: those kinds of things. Just like we lined up. We
- 29:33Speaker 1: had a juncture in the game that was important. We
- 29:35Speaker 1: all know Bill's taught us this many times. There's one
- 29:39Speaker 1: hundred and twenty players in the game. There's only a
- 29:41Speaker 1: handful of them that truly impact the game. And it
- 29:44Speaker 1: seems like those players are not going the Patriots way
- 29:47Speaker 1: more often than not. And then the sneaky injury was
- 29:50Speaker 1: Lawrence Guy. I mean, I don't know, he's got a shoulder,
- 29:53Speaker 1: which you know, I don't know how bad it is,
- 29:56Speaker 1: but you need him. It's even with Green Bay. You
- 29:59Speaker 1: think Aaron Rodgers, you think throwing, that's not the case. Yeah. No,
- 30:03Speaker 1: they like to run. Yeah, they liked to run. Aaron
- 30:07Speaker 1: Jones is a good runner. You know, Rogers didn't putting
- 30:11Speaker 1: up points. Yeah, I mean that last game with fourteen
- 30:15Speaker 1: to twelve. You know. Yeah, it's another another thing that
- 30:19Speaker 1: you know, and listen the second half. It there's this
- 30:24Speaker 1: notion defensively, I'm gonna you know, I've been saying a
- 30:27Speaker 1: lot of good things about the Patriots. I thought they
- 30:28Speaker 1: did a lot of things well and you know, unfortunately
- 30:31Speaker 1: the mistakes killed him. There's this notion that the Patriots
- 30:33Speaker 1: played really well defensively in the first half and then
- 30:35Speaker 1: it all fell apart in the second. It's not true.
- 30:38Speaker 1: They played bad in the first half, in just a
- 30:39Speaker 1: lot worse than the second half. And with Lawrence Guy,
- 30:42Speaker 1: they averaged six point two yards to carry, by the way,
- 30:45Speaker 1: ten carries for sixty two yards in the first half,
- 30:47Speaker 1: and that includes a one rush for minus four for
- 30:50Speaker 1: Deveron DuVernay, which doesn't have anything to do with the front.
- 30:52Speaker 1: That was a jet sweep that they sniffed out. So
- 30:56Speaker 1: I think they missed Lawrence Guy. I think that was
- 30:58Speaker 1: a big, big absence. The bigger problem. To me, we
- 31:02Speaker 1: still got a linebacker issue. Yeah, we've still got a
- 31:06Speaker 1: but again, I think that's it's a lamar thing too.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Like I just the Ravens are so unique. Ma Mack
- 31:11Speaker 1: Wilson was in a blender the whole game. He didn't
- 31:14Speaker 1: know where to look. That all their misdirection stuff, he's
- 31:17Speaker 1: going the wrong way. Joan Bentley unfortunately, same kind of thing.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I mean, I think I think Lawrence Guy actually and
- 31:22Speaker 1: and Gotcha played pretty well at least at their points,
- 31:25Speaker 1: but it didn't really matter because they've got you know,
- 31:28Speaker 1: they're pulling two guys from one side of their line,
- 31:29Speaker 1: and Lamar's kind of just picking his hole and you've
- 31:32Speaker 1: got second level guys who can't read through it. Now
- 31:34Speaker 1: this like, I don't think that there's maybe ten teams
- 31:37Speaker 1: in the league that have the guys that can do that,
- 31:40Speaker 1: but the Patriots certainly, but they don't team that really
- 31:43Speaker 1: was all about Lamar running the ball, and they got
- 31:46Speaker 1: and they got well with other guys running the ball
- 31:48Speaker 1: in this game. And I agree with you. I think
- 31:49Speaker 1: that the performance dropped off after Lawrence Guy left, so
- 31:53Speaker 1: like it was better when Lawrence Guy was in there.
- 31:55Speaker 1: They couldn't stop anything once he left. Yeah, Um, so
- 31:59Speaker 1: that's a that's a significant issue, and I agree with it. Also,
- 32:01Speaker 1: his point about mac Wilson is dead on too. I mean,
- 32:04Speaker 1: also the style that Baltimore was showing was different in
- 32:07Speaker 1: the second half. Well, I think they started. I think
- 32:11Speaker 1: he was pulling it more in the second half. And
- 32:12Speaker 1: that's the other thing. If you had told me he
- 32:14Speaker 1: was going to get a hundred yards, I would have
- 32:16Speaker 1: said he did a great job of getting out of
- 32:18Speaker 1: the pocket and making plays on passing down a design runs.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Almost almost all of them would design runs. I think
- 32:25Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones provided some clarity yesterday. He said they kind
- 32:28Speaker 1: of came out and they were spread and they weren't
- 32:29Speaker 1: really running it at first, and we had some success
- 32:31Speaker 1: about it. But as soon as they kind of went
- 32:33Speaker 1: to the read option with the quarterback and they started
- 32:35Speaker 1: putting the full back on and they're pulling alignment with him.
- 32:38Speaker 1: You know, it's that combination of power with the speed
- 32:41Speaker 1: of Lamar and it's just it's devastating and they I mean,
- 32:44Speaker 1: there were just so many times where it looked like, oh,
- 32:46Speaker 1: they should have this snuffed out, and he's just so good. Yeah,
- 32:49Speaker 1: and he just weeks through everybody. You know, it's a
- 32:51Speaker 1: different animal. And the other thing is two things that
- 32:54Speaker 1: stood out to me. Number one is this is like
- 32:56Speaker 1: this point about like yeah, they started off with yeah
- 32:59Speaker 1: and again and This is like why I still think
- 33:01Speaker 1: Belichick is one of the best, if not still the
- 33:03Speaker 1: best coach in football, because they're almost always ready to
- 33:06Speaker 1: do that. Then what happens when the other team says, Okay,
- 33:09Speaker 1: if we just do this and this, they won't be
- 33:12Speaker 1: able to and they were overwhelmed because I think the
- 33:14Speaker 1: other team was better. The other thing that really stood
- 33:17Speaker 1: out to me was Patrick Ricard was absolutely did you
- 33:20Speaker 1: see that clip on Judeon Oh my god, some of
- 33:22Speaker 1: the blocks he was he was throwing down. Yeah, he's
- 33:25Speaker 1: a he's a house, He's a house. And Andy Hart.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Andy Hart was he probably had a tear in his
- 33:33Speaker 1: eye watching some of those clips. Um, And I think
- 33:35Speaker 1: you guys are right. I think that they said, we
- 33:38Speaker 1: don't have to do it that way, we can just
- 33:40Speaker 1: line up and do it this way. And they had
- 33:42Speaker 1: some success with hill Uh Dobbins didn't have good numbers,
- 33:45Speaker 1: but I thought he gave them a little bit of
- 33:46Speaker 1: a lift coming off of a year plus absence. They
- 33:49Speaker 1: ran the ball with their running backs better than they
- 33:51Speaker 1: have in any game so far. Now. On the flip side,
- 33:55Speaker 1: looks like their defense is kind of what it was
- 33:57Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter because they had problems. And here's
- 34:00Speaker 1: where I want to talk about the play calling and stuff.
- 34:02Speaker 1: We're critical of some individual play calls. I'm going to
- 34:05Speaker 1: give the Patriots offense some credit here and their game plan.
- 34:10Speaker 1: They clearly said we're going to attack the third and
- 34:13Speaker 1: fourth corners. We're not going to make a living attacking
- 34:16Speaker 1: Marlin Humphrey in Marcus Peters, and they got Humphrey. I mean,
- 34:21Speaker 1: Parker matched up against their third string cornerback and they
- 34:24Speaker 1: they really won that battle from what it was. I
- 34:27Speaker 1: think it was justin armor Davis who started the game
- 34:30Speaker 1: and then he left and they put a couple other
- 34:33Speaker 1: guys on him, Stevens, I think in Williams and those guys.
- 34:37Speaker 1: You know, Parker was getting open against those guys, and
- 34:40Speaker 1: that's the matchup that they tried to exploit, and you
- 34:42Speaker 1: didn't see a whole I mean, maybe it would have
- 34:44Speaker 1: been different with if Myers had played. Maybe they still
- 34:46Speaker 1: would have just gone to Myers. But give the Patriots
- 34:50Speaker 1: coaches credit. They searched out a matchup and they found
- 34:52Speaker 1: one that was to their benefit. Yeah, and I thought
- 34:55Speaker 1: Stevenson had a good game. I mean, Stevenson was solid.
- 34:58Speaker 1: There's plenty of bright spots in the game. It's just
- 35:00Speaker 1: that the mistakes just killed him, you know, killed the
- 35:03Speaker 1: bright spots. You know. It's like, why are we talking
- 35:05Speaker 1: about good game by Stevenson when you know, down the
- 35:09Speaker 1: stretch they couldn't they couldn't get it done. But but
- 35:11Speaker 1: he had a good game. Obviously we talk about Parker
- 35:14Speaker 1: having a good game. I think the old line may
- 35:17Speaker 1: have regressed a little bit. I think in the run
- 35:20Speaker 1: game they played okay, That's why I thought Stevenson was
- 35:23Speaker 1: so good. Yeah, I thought Stevenson got a lot of
- 35:25Speaker 1: that on his own. Yeah. Yeah. Tough tough day for
- 35:27Speaker 1: Cold Strange against Lais Campbell, who of course has been
- 35:31Speaker 1: destroying people for over you know, Paul, I mean, what
- 35:34Speaker 1: is going on with the linebackers? I mean, why o'she?
- 35:37Speaker 1: What's he doing out there? I mean I don't hear
- 35:40Speaker 1: his name. Uh, he's he's back down to like, you know,
- 35:45Speaker 1: like very specific duty, you know. Um, you know Bentley,
- 35:51Speaker 1: I mean, he's an okay player, but he's he's not
- 35:54Speaker 1: Dante Hi Town. I like him. I like him too,
- 35:58Speaker 1: but like he's not he's not like when you're a
- 36:01Speaker 1: defensive Player of the Year anytime soon, you know, now
- 36:03Speaker 1: he is what he is, and I think it's a
- 36:05Speaker 1: little bit exposed against a guy like Lamar Jackson. But
- 36:08Speaker 1: you know, I think some of the stuff we've talked
- 36:10Speaker 1: about in the shows over the last couple of years
- 36:12Speaker 1: was like, oh, against Baltimore, you need a guy like Ouch,
- 36:14Speaker 1: or you need a mobile linebacker like mack Wilson. You know,
- 36:17Speaker 1: like you're saying, these are the prototypes that you need
- 36:20Speaker 1: to deal with these kind of teams. And then Ouch
- 36:22Speaker 1: doesn't even really play, and then you know, mac Wilson
- 36:25Speaker 1: looked like the years in Cleveland again. You know, like
- 36:28Speaker 1: Mia Colpa I said, you know, this could be a
- 36:30Speaker 1: good game for mac Wilson to show off that speed
- 36:32Speaker 1: at least stay in the vicinity of Lamar when he runs,
- 36:37Speaker 1: and like you said, he was in a blender. He
- 36:39Speaker 1: didn't know which way to go. And now we find
- 36:41Speaker 1: out why mac Wilson was available, you know, because he's
- 36:45Speaker 1: not consistent and you know, instinctually, maybe he doesn't always
- 36:49Speaker 1: make the right decision on every play. You know, that's
- 36:53Speaker 1: you know, we laugh at people like Zach Thomas who
- 36:56Speaker 1: were like tackle machines. He made up for not have
- 37:00Speaker 1: the physical ability with his speed and his instincts. He
- 37:04Speaker 1: just had a nose for the ball. Um. You have
- 37:06Speaker 1: to have that if you're not a big linebacker, you know,
- 37:10Speaker 1: you have to be able to make the first move
- 37:13Speaker 1: you're the right move, or else you're going to be
- 37:14Speaker 1: out of the play. Yeah, I think it was I
- 37:16Speaker 1: think it was a good job by the Ravens to
- 37:17Speaker 1: recognizing guy like Jabrill Pepper's pain a lot. I think,
- 37:20Speaker 1: you know, I know he is one of my guys,
- 37:22Speaker 1: but he's another one that's in there with the struggle. Bussed.
- 37:25Speaker 1: The missed, they missed, and I know everyone says it
- 37:30Speaker 1: and it's true, but man, you miss one guy. I mean,
- 37:33Speaker 1: if that's what your defense is, then you don't really
- 37:35Speaker 1: have a solid defense, right, you know. And it's like this,
- 37:40Speaker 1: there was a lot of snickering about Buffalo. Oh well,
- 37:43Speaker 1: I guess they're not going to go seventeen and they
- 37:45Speaker 1: lost six starters and the tremendous defensively, right, they hung
- 37:50Speaker 1: in there. Like one of the touchdowns they allowed was
- 37:51Speaker 1: the strip sack inside the five. Yeah, they really only
- 37:54Speaker 1: allowed fourteen points. Yeah, yeah, I mean I think that's
- 37:57Speaker 1: why Dorsey the five two hundred. Yeah, he was so
- 38:02Speaker 1: upset after the because he knew it was a game
- 38:03Speaker 1: they should have had, right, let me come on. But
- 38:05Speaker 1: I think they might they might like sometimes there's too
- 38:08Speaker 1: much and I think by the end of the game
- 38:11Speaker 1: they were down thirteen starters. Now, I don't know how
- 38:13Speaker 1: many of those guys are going to be projected to
- 38:15Speaker 1: come back. I know that Micah Hyde will not. Um,
- 38:19Speaker 1: that's a lot of that's a lot of injuries to
- 38:21Speaker 1: deal with it. Yeah, yeah, all right, five five Pats
- 38:25Speaker 1: five hundred is the Ace ticket hut line web radio
- 38:27Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com. It's the email address. I'm sure
- 38:30Speaker 1: there's a lot of microtopics that we haven't touched down
- 38:34Speaker 1: that you want to. So here's your chance. We'll start
- 38:37Speaker 1: off with the Ace ticket hut line. We'll go to
- 38:39Speaker 1: Brandon in Oregon. What's up, Brandon? Hey, what's up? Guys?
- 38:44Speaker 1: About to doing today? Okay? Pretty good? Run on. Hey,
- 38:48Speaker 1: So I got a little game for you guys. Just
- 38:49Speaker 1: it's kind of hypothetical, but I think you guys have
- 38:51Speaker 1: some fun with it. Um, I don't really know. I
- 38:54Speaker 1: don't remember off the top of my head with the
- 38:55Speaker 1: cap situation was like a few years ago. But like
- 38:59Speaker 1: Paul says, the cap is craft, though, let's just play
- 39:01Speaker 1: along here, Okay. So when Stafford was available, when the
- 39:06Speaker 1: Lions traded them, I believe that was the year that
- 39:09Speaker 1: we signed Cam Newton in the off season. So would
- 39:13Speaker 1: you guys rather the Patriots have given up what the
- 39:17Speaker 1: Rams gave up to get Stafford? I believe it was
- 39:19Speaker 1: two ones in a two or whatever the draft picks were.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Do you think we would be better off right now
- 39:24Speaker 1: had we acquired Stafford at that time or things played
- 39:28Speaker 1: out just how they have. Well, if right now, maybe
- 39:31Speaker 1: they would be better with Stafford, but not long term.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I mean, the Rams were in a completely different position
- 39:37Speaker 1: than the Patriots. They were they had the ingredients, they
- 39:40Speaker 1: just needed the quarterback, so they made a good decision.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I would tend to agree with Fred, but I need
- 39:45Speaker 1: to have a definition of long term, well like the
- 39:49Speaker 1: next five to ten years. Then I'd rather have Stafford, okay,
- 39:52Speaker 1: because I don't think, yeah, Mac Jones is gonna be
- 39:54Speaker 1: the quarterback in five to ten years. Okay, I tend
- 39:57Speaker 1: to agree. I think that with Bilichick's being towards the end,
- 40:00Speaker 1: I think picking up a veteran quarterback like that would
- 40:03Speaker 1: have given us a better chance to win before Bill retire.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Yeah right, Yeah, the Rams were ready to win with
- 40:11Speaker 1: good quarterback play. I'm not sure that. I'm not sure
- 40:15Speaker 1: last year's Patriots team was in the simile. Like, in
- 40:17Speaker 1: other words, if you went Stafford onto the team as
- 40:20Speaker 1: it was, would you have a chance. Yeah. I think
- 40:23Speaker 1: they might have won a couple more games, and it
- 40:25Speaker 1: certainly would have been more dangerous. Yeah, like going to Buffalo.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Let's just say it played out the same. Going to
- 40:29Speaker 1: Buffalo with Stafford would have given you much more of
- 40:32Speaker 1: a chance than with Matt. Yeah, you would have only
- 40:34Speaker 1: lost by fifteen points instead of thirty, probably if your
- 40:36Speaker 1: defense played the same. No, if your defense played the same. Yeah,
- 40:40Speaker 1: I mean I would agree we would have won a
- 40:43Speaker 1: super Bowl, but the last couple of years we had
- 40:45Speaker 1: Stafford instead. I'm not saying that. I just think right now,
- 40:48Speaker 1: this season and obviously the team, the makeup of the
- 40:51Speaker 1: team would be totally different than it is. So well,
- 40:54Speaker 1: like I said, it's hypothetical, but I just think this year,
- 40:57Speaker 1: next year, and maybe even the one after that, we'd
- 40:59Speaker 1: be in such a better place to win. I got
- 41:01Speaker 1: one more thing I can't argue. I mean, Paul, this
- 41:06Speaker 1: is you know you just said the linebackers are still craped. Dude,
- 41:08Speaker 1: this is what you've been asking for. We finally got
- 41:10Speaker 1: rid of finally got rid of Call, and finally got
- 41:14Speaker 1: rid of all these guys that he said sucked and
- 41:15Speaker 1: we're too old. And you're putting a lot of words
- 41:19Speaker 1: in my mouth. I don't think I said anybody sucked,
- 41:22Speaker 1: and I don't think I said that the linebackers now
- 41:24Speaker 1: were crap. I said they were a problem on Sunday,
- 41:28Speaker 1: like I thought Mike did a good job of explaining.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Mac Wilson was quote in a blender um he had
- 41:34Speaker 1: he had some struggles. Yeah, and just because I didn't
- 41:37Speaker 1: want the old guys that they had, I didn't suggest
- 41:40Speaker 1: not replacing them at all was the answer. I thought
- 41:42Speaker 1: they would get one in the draft. I thought, you know,
- 41:45Speaker 1: maybe you go out and get something other than a
- 41:47Speaker 1: cast off in mac Wilson and a guy coming off
- 41:51Speaker 1: a twenty acl and ray Kuan McMillan, Like I wanted
- 41:54Speaker 1: to do more at the position than that. And I
- 41:56Speaker 1: think it speaks volumes that they had Jamie Collins back
- 41:58Speaker 1: in for a workout last week, like they're obviously they're
- 42:02Speaker 1: obviously wondering where they're gonna get But I just don't
- 42:05Speaker 1: think it would have looked all that much better with
- 42:06Speaker 1: Dante High Tower and Kyle Van Noil on Sunday. No,
- 42:09Speaker 1: that that's where I would be. I wonder you would
- 42:11Speaker 1: have been heavier up front and if it would, if
- 42:13Speaker 1: it would have, you know, I have to go back
- 42:15Speaker 1: and look at the twenty twenty game. But does that
- 42:16Speaker 1: give you more stout play up front? I mean, no
- 42:19Speaker 1: high towers out, but you know what I mean, like
- 42:20Speaker 1: maybe if you had to do it over, you're playing
- 42:21Speaker 1: a little bit more big guys and you can do this,
- 42:24Speaker 1: So I know you can do this. What was the
- 42:26Speaker 1: biggest difference between the twenty twenty game and Sunday and
- 42:29Speaker 1: whether I just thank you? I was hoping to get
- 42:31Speaker 1: him a little more worked up than he actually got. No,
- 42:33Speaker 1: but I like it. I don't like you, so I
- 42:35Speaker 1: don't get worked up. Thanks Brandon, appreciate the call. Go Ducks.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Speaking of guys, we like Eldred's in North Carolina? What's up, Eldred?
- 42:44Speaker 1: Hey Bell's how y'all doing today? Good good? I'm doing
- 42:48Speaker 1: for the A'm a little optimistic, but then again I'm
- 42:51Speaker 1: not what do stop it? I heard you on the
- 42:54Speaker 1: post game, man, Yeah, and you wondering why they didn't
- 42:56Speaker 1: target tidy ends and this isn't it. I'm gonna throw
- 42:59Speaker 1: it again. It might be good at call him players
- 43:01Speaker 1: right now, but they're not really good at arch checking
- 43:04Speaker 1: people in the right spot. Then they haven't learned how
- 43:07Speaker 1: to do that yet. And for the talent wise, that's
- 43:10Speaker 1: the problem too. But like I said, it is what
- 43:13Speaker 1: it is. And I'm just wondering why y'all didn't put
- 43:16Speaker 1: mccordy on the bad list. Done? How you let uh,
- 43:21Speaker 1: what's their pathro from? We talked about their coverage of
- 43:25Speaker 1: tight ends, but we probably should have specifically mentioned that, yeah,
- 43:27Speaker 1: because he's part of that. Because I didn't care for
- 43:31Speaker 1: I thought he got torched on the touchdown and you
- 43:33Speaker 1: only was in Andrews ran right back. He was only
- 43:35Speaker 1: in the in the play because the throw was underthrown
- 43:37Speaker 1: there right. Yeah, he was there when the ball came down,
- 43:40Speaker 1: but Andrews was behind him. Andrews right you saw at
- 43:43Speaker 1: the goal you're going by the catch. The catch is
- 43:46Speaker 1: exactly how Andrews ran right by. He was wide open
- 43:50Speaker 1: and he missed them and he got away with it
- 43:51Speaker 1: because Andrews made the good catch. Yeah, well but that's
- 43:55Speaker 1: about it. But I hope Matt gets better. And uh,
- 43:59Speaker 1: like I said, I'm yes, let get here. Okay, thanks Aldred.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Let's go to Aaron in Connecticut. Hey, Aaron, good, are
- 44:12Speaker 1: you in a zoo? It sounds like you got wild
- 44:14Speaker 1: animals behind you? Hello? He's very by that. I think
- 44:19Speaker 1: he might have gotten needn What happened Aaron? Aaron? This
- 44:26Speaker 1: week Braden was in the backup. I think we're gonna
- 44:29Speaker 1: need an update from Connecticut. I think something happened. Yeah,
- 44:34Speaker 1: so Zooaron, it's a little too close to the cage,
- 44:37Speaker 1: all right, Um, lots of emails coming into but we'll

- 52:50Speaker 1: He did? Jackson works from the gun of a hill

- 53:09Speaker 1: I'll get off another play. He dropped back in the pocket.
- 53:12Speaker 1: He throws one to the right scene and missus born
- 53:15Speaker 1: and finds Marcus Peters. The slides with an interception and
- 53:18Speaker 1: for Baltimore and Jones is her. Matt Jones is hurt.
- 53:21Speaker 1: He's popping off the field on his right foot, unable
- 53:25Speaker 1: to reach the forest sideline before Jim Whale and the
- 53:28Speaker 1: Patriots trainer comes down to me to matter a meaningless
- 53:32Speaker 1: chuck and duck player as Lamar Jackson takes the final
- 53:36Speaker 1: knee to seal it for Baltimore by the thirty seven
- 53:40Speaker 1: twenty six score. But the outcome of the game secondary
- 53:43Speaker 1: right now in terms of the standard the Patriots, because
- 53:46Speaker 1: the quarterback Matt Jones hit on his last throw, resulting
- 53:50Speaker 1: in an interception, glass pavel coming down on his left leg,
- 53:54Speaker 1: Jones injuring it appear the lower left letting popping off
- 53:58Speaker 1: the field. Hold our breath and hopefully the best case scenario.
- 54:08Speaker 1: All right, that's the mashup. Is that the Matt Morrel
- 54:12Speaker 1: or the Matt Lapan mashup this week, I want to
- 54:15Speaker 1: give Lapan credit. Good mashup. It's tough to do in
- 54:17Speaker 1: a loss, you know, yeah, a little tougher you know.
- 54:21Speaker 1: You know what also is tough driving with bad tires.
- 54:25Speaker 1: That's why you need to listen to this. Bridgetone is
- 54:28Speaker 1: the official tire of the New England Patriots and a
- 54:31Speaker 1: proud sponsor with Sullivan Tire, New England's headquarters for quality
- 54:36Speaker 1: Bridgestone tires. Visit Sullivan Tire dot com to find a
- 54:40Speaker 1: location near you. So you know that it took the
- 54:45Speaker 1: ad took a little bit of a curve. It starts
- 54:47Speaker 1: out with Bridgestone, but then it turns you to Sullivan.
- 54:50Speaker 1: The main thing is get your Bridgestone tires at Sullivan Tire.
- 54:54Speaker 1: You walked them right into it. They didn't know what
- 54:56Speaker 1: they were what they were in for. What is this
- 54:57Speaker 1: useful information which Fred is sharing with us. Ah, Yes,
- 55:01Speaker 1: I might have to go get some tires soon, I think. Yeah,
- 55:03Speaker 1: you start to get you start to starting to look
- 55:05Speaker 1: a little worn down. Maybe, Yeah, there's like a penny
- 55:07Speaker 1: thing you could do. You put the penny in and
- 55:09Speaker 1: if it gets up to his chin or something, or
- 55:11Speaker 1: it doesn't get up to his chin, then you have
- 55:13Speaker 1: to replace it or the winner. You gotta keep an
- 55:15Speaker 1: eye on that, something like put the snow tires on,
- 55:17Speaker 1: put the chains on. Yeah, not anymore. No, they've got
- 55:22Speaker 1: tires for everything. Yep, all right, five five pats five
- 55:25Speaker 1: hundred is the ACE ticket. Hut Line web radio at
- 55:29Speaker 1: patriot dot com is the email address. Um, let me
- 55:35Speaker 1: see there was one email that I wanted to read. Oh,
- 55:38Speaker 1: there's a lot of emails, M Paul. Oh yeah, this
- 55:42Speaker 1: is from Sean. He says he's from Melbourne, Australia. Finally
- 55:47Speaker 1: caught up on last week's show, and while I usually
- 55:49Speaker 1: agree with Paul, had to call him out a little
- 55:51Speaker 1: for not allowing the advice you guys always give of
- 55:54Speaker 1: looking at what they do and not what they say. Thursday,
- 55:57Speaker 1: Paul said, fifty fifty contested catches isn't what Bill likes
- 56:01Speaker 1: to do, but for about five years now, that's what
- 56:03Speaker 1: they've been searching for. Just look at the resources they've
- 56:06Speaker 1: given up to find guys that do that. Twenty eighteen
- 56:09Speaker 1: Trade a fifth rounder for Josh Gordon, who looked like
- 56:11Speaker 1: he ran with a piano on his back, but was
- 56:13Speaker 1: a contested catch guy, twenty nineteen first round pick for
- 56:17Speaker 1: Harry while we never really saw him do it, that's
- 56:20Speaker 1: what he was meant to be and took twenty twenty two,
- 56:22Speaker 1: traded a third rounder for Parker. To me, that looks
- 56:26Speaker 1: like you're chasing exactly that type of player and giving
- 56:29Speaker 1: up those resources to get a player that you're probably
- 56:31Speaker 1: aiming for that to be a big part of your offense.
- 56:36Speaker 1: I love Paul Rtories. I'm just waiting for him to
- 56:38Speaker 1: get that Frida out of the email. Is absolutely right.
- 56:40Speaker 1: He's absolutely right my point that I was trying to
- 56:43Speaker 1: make last week, and just that I just can't imagine
- 56:47Speaker 1: that billing his heart of Hautch things that that's good.
- 56:49Speaker 1: But I mean, he's absolutely right. I think this is
- 56:52Speaker 1: the kind of guy they've been looking for. I love
- 56:54Speaker 1: emails like this to connect the dots in a way
- 56:56Speaker 1: that I didn't really think about before. And I think
- 56:58Speaker 1: he's right, and I don't and I don't to echo Paul,
- 57:00Speaker 1: I don't really get it. I don't really get it.
- 57:02Speaker 1: It just doesn't seem what they're bread and butter. It isn't.
- 57:04Speaker 1: But other than like, isn't that what we're seeing on
- 57:07Speaker 1: all the highlight films week after week on all the teams,
- 57:10Speaker 1: it's these guys making contested catches. I mean, that's not
- 57:14Speaker 1: who are running away from everybody. That's what I see weekend.
- 57:17Speaker 1: I see that too, But I see these contested catches
- 57:20Speaker 1: guys all you know, But I'm not telling you you
- 57:22Speaker 1: don't see any contested catches. I'm telling you what I
- 57:25Speaker 1: see highlights of and the good teams, like Jamar Chase
- 57:28Speaker 1: isn't a contested catch catch guy. You know, Tyreek Hill.
- 57:31Speaker 1: I mean, while he can make make those kinds of plays,
- 57:35Speaker 1: what you see more often these streaks across the field,
- 57:38Speaker 1: justin Jefferson, not a contested catch guy like the guys
- 57:42Speaker 1: that I want. But there's only a handful of those
- 57:44Speaker 1: great guys, you know, really, only a handful of those
- 57:47Speaker 1: huh yeah yeah, like Tactor. Are more good receivers in
- 57:50Speaker 1: the league now than maybe ever before, Just like I
- 57:52Speaker 1: think quarterback play is getting better and better. I'd think
- 57:55Speaker 1: it's like the thing where they ask Mac about like,
- 57:56Speaker 1: you know, RPOs and stuff, and it was one of
- 57:58Speaker 1: those responses, you hear a lot where well, you can't
- 58:00Speaker 1: major in it. You can't. And that's how I feel
- 58:02Speaker 1: about contested catches, Like it's a nice it's a nice
- 58:06Speaker 1: piece to have down in the red zone. But I
- 58:09Speaker 1: don't get a good email, good email, really good email mail.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Maman says I have much more confidence in Brian Hoyer,
- 58:15Speaker 1: it's quarterback, after learning that his name is actually axel
- 58:18Speaker 1: As mister fully, Uh, yeah, we'll get it. We'll get
- 58:25Speaker 1: a look. I mean, man and Paul and I we
- 58:26Speaker 1: should say we um. You know, we shot the TV
- 58:28Speaker 1: show yesterday and we talked a little bit about that
- 58:30Speaker 1: Kansas City game, a little bit of you know, tough
- 58:33Speaker 1: circumstances for Brian Horner and that one with Cam getting COVID,
- 58:36Speaker 1: you know, and but but they moved the ball pretty well.
- 58:39Speaker 1: I mean, it was balanced. It wasn't all Hoyer. I mean,
- 58:41Speaker 1: I don't think he exactly lit it up through the air.
- 58:42Speaker 1: But you know, it was just the mistakes that we
- 58:44Speaker 1: pointed out before the halftime. The you know, taking a
- 58:47Speaker 1: sack with no timeouts, you know, costing you in a
- 58:49Speaker 1: six three game, costing you a field. So listen to
- 58:51Speaker 1: what we're talking about. That's going back now three seasons,
- 58:54Speaker 1: twenty twenty, same kind of thing there. It wasn't a
- 58:57Speaker 1: total train wreck, like they moved the ball and then
- 59:01Speaker 1: made crippling mistakes, whether it be a turnover, taking a
- 59:04Speaker 1: sack in field goal range at the end of the
- 59:06Speaker 1: half and having the clock run out. Um, you know,
- 59:11Speaker 1: is that like, well, if we can just avoid these mistakes,
- 59:14Speaker 1: we can win or yeah, that's true, but more than
- 59:17Speaker 1: likely you're not gonna avoid those mistakes because this is
- 59:19Speaker 1: kind of what you are. That's what I think everybody's
- 59:22Speaker 1: wrestling with right now. Um, And that was a horrible
- 59:25Speaker 1: situation for Horrier to have to go into. Not at
- 59:28Speaker 1: least this week he gets the whole week to prepare
- 59:30Speaker 1: my guests. I think he's probably going to have the
- 59:32Speaker 1: whole week to prepare that week. He found out as
- 59:36Speaker 1: they were traveling, right right, Yeah, well, I mean, well,
- 59:40Speaker 1: you know, Freddy were there, right I hit the ground
- 59:42Speaker 1: in Kansas City and found out the game had been delayed.
- 59:46Speaker 1: They fellas did they play it Monday night? Monday night? Right? Yeah?
- 59:52Speaker 1: And they played Monday night. They tested everybody Monday morning,
- 59:54Speaker 1: and then they flew them out and then they literally
- 59:56Speaker 1: went from like the airports. It was just a mess.
- 59:58Speaker 1: What a mess. Uh, let's get back to the ace
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: ticket outline. Patty's an agawam. What's up? Patty going on? Gentlemen, Hey, hey,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: Patty and mash up. I tell you what like made
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: me relive the end of the game. I didn't. I
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: had no idea Mack was hurt. Um TV didn't get
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: it until after the break. Yeah, as soon as he
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: picked as soon as he picked up, he got picked
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: off by threw it on red zone, and red Zone
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: actually showed the replay of him getting hit by klay
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Is Campbell. I know they didn't showed on the Life PBC. UM,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: But I'll tell you what like so far, just through
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: three games, I don't I can. I can live with
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: him throwing a few picks here and there, if he's
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: being aggressive and throwing the balls, trying to throw the
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: ball down field. That's one of the things I wanted
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: to see him do this year. But that that pick
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: in the end zone on on third down, I mean,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you got to you gotta know what the situation is.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: You gotta trank at least come away with three points there.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I agree, Patty. The two picks the last one, I'm
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: gonna I'll blow off because that's garbage time. The two
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: picks that were killers, Neither one of them was like
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: trying to make a play downfield. It's a bad decision
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: on the first one, bad route, bad communication, whatever you
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: want to call. And then he just didn't see the
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: linebacker or the other one. But that wasn't a deep
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: throw like that. Those are unfortunate, unfortunate place killing, and
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: then they're really killing the offense. Thanks Patty. Let's go
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: to Aaron in Flint, Michigan. What's up, Aaron? Hey, what's
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: going on? He Um? I don't want to talk about
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I think either Paul you brought it up or it
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: was Ronnie Harrison on one of these ana on the show.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Mac Dowald doesn't take down does he doesn't do it?
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Thinking huh, he's not. He has done it. He has, Yeah,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I mean that's all he did against Miami. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: This game. I thought he was getting the ball downfield
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: more often. I think that's why people thought there were
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: flashes of this was the best game he's played. I
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: heard more than one person on the radio yesterday say
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that was the best game that Mac Jones's player. I've
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: also heard that was the best worst game that he
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: ever had, calling his best game ever, and I was like, uh, yeah,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna guess that he doesn't think again that he
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: threw no touchdowns in three picks was his best game.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: But that's just me. Yeah, Cleveland or San Diego, ye,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: And I would say this game he probably missed the
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: most open I wouldn't say receivers the tight end because
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: they were all underneath when he was forcing the downfield.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I mean, we took the reward, but I think on
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: the pit he had me in open underneath, his tight
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: end open underneath. But I don't know, maybe that was
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: the game of gender or something. But yeah, I wish
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: he would take the beak and dunk because they warn
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: us a lot. Yeah, I don't think yea yeah, I
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: mean I think he's Yeah, I think he's gonna be
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: thinking dunk more often than not. I wouldn't worry about that.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I'm going to bring up one more play to see
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: if anybody else noticed it. But like I understand, Lamar
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Jackson is back, but it was one critical play. I
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: don't know if it's when he scrambled ball on those
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: yards and big back, or if it's when he scrambled
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: and completed a pass or a first down, but god, yaw,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: he broke through the line and just like he just
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: wanted to run up, feel like he got a sack
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: and was going to celebrate. He just complete. I mean,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: he didn't I don't know if he didn't see Lamar Jackson,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: but he made Zeros help that trying to tackle him.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Did anybody else notice that play? I sure, not off
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the top of my head, but I mean I think
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: it sums it up with what it is Lamar, and
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I'm sure and it seems like the defense was being
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: told to keep him in the pocket and you know,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: not rushed past him. And so you can understand why
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Godshall might have been, you know, second caussing himself a
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: little bit when he gets you know, a free shot
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: at him. But he wasn't the only one to miss him.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I mean, all those guys, I think he missed him.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Point Yeah. All right, Aaron, thanks for the car. Appreciate it.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I'm surprised they blitzed as much as they did after
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: he had such a good game against the Blitz against
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Miami and they came back and blitz to a lot. Again,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I was a little surprised at that. Were they blitzes
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: are just sending guys from different areas blitzing? They were
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: actual blitzes. Yeah. According to next next Gen stats, they
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: blitz the highest percentage of the week or something like that,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: fifty in the first half, right, I don't know. Let's
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: go to Steve and Boston. What's up Steve? Hey, guys,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: So I just wanted to bring to your attention that
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: the spreads actually up to ten and a half now. Well, okay,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: so it is that's okay, So that that does that's
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: more of an indication. Okay, Yeah, the last I had
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: seen it went from six and a half to eight.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: So if it's up to ten and a half now,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: that that's moving like you would think with a backup quarterback. Okay, yeah, good.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: The line again earlier in the year, and then like
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: the line for that week doesn't come out till after
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: the game, so I don't know if we know there's
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: a movement, right, No, you're you're definitely correct. The actual
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: line for the game would be after the games of
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: week three if we find out it went up because
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: they found out Mac is in fact going to play
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: I'll just tell you if Mac play, it wouldn't. I
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: don't think it would move. I really don't. Well you
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: got one a guy on one leg, correct, you know? Yeah? Malpractice? Yeah?
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Is that all? Steve? Just no, thanks for the updates,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: because because I actually meant to look that up this
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: morning to see if it had changed at all. But
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: I'm glad that Steve called in because you guys have
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: much more information on that stuff than I do. Scott's
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: and Newton. What's up, Scott? Get it off? Get it off?
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Why don't you just put him on holding the look
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: every once in a while we'll check back in and
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: see if he's still on. Scott? You there, So that's
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: not him playing, that's his hold music. It's Eric playing
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: for him. He has no formal artistic training. Scott must
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: be at work. Um, let's go back to the emails
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: at web radio at Patriots dot com. Eric is from
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: the Virgin Islands. Which one? You know? There's so many? Yeah?
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Well there's three. Um, how much longer do we have
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: to keep up this facade that Mac is anything more
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: than a backup level quarterback? No, I don't know. How
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: about a couple of years. No, athleticism, bad arm, bad
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: and crunch time. But yet that's all okay because he's
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: incredibly smart. Yet time and time again we see him
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: throw dumb interceptions or make dumb decisions. Is there really
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: anything you can say to describe mac as a quarterback
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: that wouldn't also apply to Hoyer? Wo wow? A kind
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: of why that keeps saying? I don't really think there
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: was that much of a difference. I think I think
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Max more athletic. Believe it or not he is, it's certainly,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: certainly at this stage he's more athletic. And I also
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: thought he did a great job, not a good job,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: a great job in the pocket, moving around, buying time,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: trying to make plays the other day, best I've seen
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: him in that regard. Yet, thirty one yards rushing in
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: that game like that was by far the best I've
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: ever seen him move. And of course he comes out
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: of it with a painful high ankle sprained. Won't be
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: moving like that anytime soon. Paul is in Norwood. Unfortunately,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: the Patriots never got in this situation, But do you
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: think they would have taken the field goal as quickly
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: as possible on that final drive to cut it to
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: a one score game. It seems that late in the game,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: when a team is down between nine and eleven points,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: this should be the call under most circumstances. Yeah, kicked
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: the field goal and then try to get the on
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: sides for the touchdown. I think they probably would. They
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: might have gotten into field goal range, taken a shot,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: and then if it wasn't there, Yeah, I think they
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: would have kicked a field goal. I think. I think
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: well coached teams do that a lot. In a similar
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: situation in the Pittsburgh Cleveland game, Pittsburgh wasted a lot
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: of time only to end up with a field goal anyway.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Down nine, they completed a pass for a first down
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: at the Cleveland twenty six with two forty six and
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: one time out left. My opinion, the right call would
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: have been to spike it and bring the field goal
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: unit out for forty three or forty four yard kick. Then,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: if successful kickoff and play defense. If all went well,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: they would have been able to utilize their time out
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: and the two minute warning and forced Pittsburgh to punt,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: getting the ball back at a round the twenty five
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: to thirty yard line with about one fifteen left. What
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: are your thoughts. Yeah. I mean, so I didn't see
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: the end of this game. So he's saying, you know,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: you know what, I just you go instead of wasting time,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: he said, two forty five left, ish, I'm rounding it
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: with a timeout. With a timeout for a forty seven
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: yard field, forty two or forty three, I would have
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: taken shots to try to get close. I don't think
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: that's an automatic. Number one forty something isn't automatic. It
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: should be, but it's not. Let's face it, we've all
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: seen these guys miss and there's too much time, Like
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: you had time to take take another shot. Now, it
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: sounds like they wasted a lot of time because I
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: think they got the ball back with like one for
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: one play, right, So I think something in between those
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: two the email is right. I think that not enough
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: coaches do that. When you're two scores down, it doesn't
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: have to be a touchdown first. No, you can get
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: a field goal and then the touchdown. I mean, obviously,
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: if time's running out, you want to have to only
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: get three. And of course if you had an option,
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: it's it does you no good, yeah, to get a
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: touchdown and an onside kick if you don't have any
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: time to then score. Right. And that's like the other
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: day when Pittsburgh got the ball back, they were unlike
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: their own ten yard line with time for one play
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: they made in one of those lateral plays, they ended
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: up being a touchdown for Cleveland. Right. I think that's
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: how that game ended. Yep. Um, let's see Dan and
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Blue Earth Minnesota, our friend from Blue Earth. What a
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: bummer that Mac was hurt Sunday. I felt that he
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: showed signs of growth in the offense. If Aggalore doesn't fumble,
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: I think they score another touchdown, putting them in the
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: thirties for the first time in a while. Even the
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: defense showed some playmaking and key moments, giving the offense
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: it's a chance to stay in the game going forward.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: What sort of special game plan will they come up
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: with to give them a chance in Green Bay with
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Hoyer under center, offensively or defensively? I mean offensively, I
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: used to get run the ball. I mean I think
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: that's you know, but but probably just basically running the
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: same offense. I don't think that there's really that money. Yeah,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: the problem the problem with Green Bay is they have
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: a good defense. Yeah, they have a really good defense,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and they're gonna and you're gonna have to stop Aaron Jones. Yeah,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: let's get back to the phones. We've got a couple
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: of people are giving it a second try. Scott Newton,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: it's back on. What's up? Scott? Hey, guys? That were
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: you good for a minute there? I thought that was
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: you playing the piano, but it was your hold music, right?
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: I mean, do you think we just sit around waiting
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: for you to come on the air, so we just
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: listened to your on hold music. We have nothing better
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: to do. I appreciate that. I'll try to step that up.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Unless you were like looking for information on Mac Jones's injury,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: well maybe you could come to the table with some information. Well,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I'm very disappointed in Max's performance, and I'm wondering if
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: you guys feel the same way. He's supposed to be
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: a cerebral quarterback. I mean, as far as having arm strength,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: we can debate that. I think it's pretty clear that
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: for him to throw, like the passing through the Parker
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: at the one yard line was a great throw, but
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: he really needs time to step into the ball. He doesn't.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: He can't otherwise he can at times look like Mark
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Wilson in terms of like putting a lot of ball
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: air under the ball and maybe not get it there.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: But my concern is this, It's like the last two
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: games he'd made absolutely indefensible throws, but he got bailed
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: out when the kid in Pittsburgh dropped that ball where
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: that game could have been lost on that play, and
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: then two of those picks and then the most egregious
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: I thought would and I don't. I'm interested in your
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: guys take on this. The goal line dropped, that could
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: have gone the other way for ninety nine yard touchdown.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: Why would you call that play on first and goal
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: with the one when that defense, by the way from
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Baltimore is not very good and the next play that
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: they walked in on a draw. So I just want
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: my question. I'm concerned about Mack and I'm wondering if
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: you guys really believe if this guy, given his physical
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: limitations and now the fact that he was he doesn't
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: seem to be. No, he's a second your player. But
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: it is bright throwing the ball as people take, Hey,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: what's what's your take on that? And be what's your
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: take on that call? What what what could possibly done?
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: Is the consideration throwing the out pattern from the goal
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: one when when the defense can't stop him on. Yeah,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: I hated that call. I mean, I think they've been
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: similar plays and other plays that fell short. I don't know.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: I mean, you're you're tempting fate with the ninety nine
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: touchdown return right there. Um, And I you know, I
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: can't really disagree with Mac. I mean, there's been some positives,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: and definitely in that last game there were some positives,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: but overall, it's it's all gotten derailed. Now. I think
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: he's going to have to come back and he's going
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: to have to kind of re establish himself at some point.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I don't know if that's going to be in a
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: few weeks or if that's going to be in November
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: or December. Um, But I you know, I don't really
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: I can't really disagree with what you've been saying that
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: if if if the mistakes, the mental mistakes are happening
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: now and he's turning the ball over in critical spots,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I just I it's it's not it's not acceptable. Yeah,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: he hasn't he hasn't seen it. Well, I don't think, Um,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: but I absolutely agree with you guys. I hated that
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: call on the goal line. I mean, if you're gonna
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: call a little like play, you know, a hard play action,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: you're gonna leak the full back or you know, a
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: back out in the flat, it's wide open, easy touchdown.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Great Accolately, wasn't that right that that there was supposed
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: to be some sort of pick play there? I think,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: right through it and you throw one before you see
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: the guy opened first and goal from the tool. Oh
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: that's a bad bad played by everybody except for Do
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: you think do you think, if you know, if let's
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: say he comes back and he plays like this and
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: they have the season, it looks like they're going in
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: the top ten pick, do you think they will look
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: at another quarterback. No, I don't think they would. I'm
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: not saying I wouldn't, but I don't think they wouldn't.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: I think the injury is huge now too um. But yeah,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: we talked about this last week, Scott Um. If it,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: if it, if it falls apart, and you're somehow, you know,
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: picking seventh next year, I don't know how you don't
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: at least look at it. I really don't, because if
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: it falls apart, you'd think would because of his play. Now,
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: if he gets hurt and that's why it falls apart. Right,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: that's different, Right, that's totally different. Yeah, I mean, guys,
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: if you guys the quarterback play was the difference in
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: the game. I mean, it would have been nice if
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Judon had showed up and Juwan Bentley and somebody made
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: some tackles. But at the end of the day, the
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: even how poorly the defense played, you could have won
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: this game if you taken care of the ball. I mean,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: the throw a Parker in the end zone was indefense. Well,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: that's a guy just saying I'm going to throw it
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: up and hopefully catches it when when you're in field
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: goal range. And again even the play we were just
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: talking about the goal line was even when he's got
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: to know as a quarterback, the guy's not wide open.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Its first and goal from the two or the one
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: and a half. You can't make that throw. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I mean, I mean he was visit, thanks Scott. He
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: was visibly a set on the sideline. But like if
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: the call was that bad, then don't check out of it,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: you know, like you know, get yelled at the I'd
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: rather yelled at for not running the play then throwing
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: an interception. Do you remember Paul with the what the
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: big story, the big takeaway was after that loss to
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Seattle in twenty twenty eight. Remember we were talking about
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: in that loss where Patriots fought hard but they came
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: up short. But it was you remember you know what
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I'm talking about with that cam was thrown at all
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: wet camp but like people but but but people felt
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: like him um with Seattle game. Yeah, yeah, because because
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: you threw a couple of passes in the second Yeah,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: not a good loss. What was the phrase that that
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: was tossed around? A lot more moral? Moral victor victory? Yeah,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: moral victory. And I've been a lot of that this week,
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: all out of moral victories over the last and a
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: lot of that this week to moral victory. That's you know,
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: And that's and that's some of like, well we couldn't
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: shut out after the twelve and fources. I know, as
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: soon as we weren't getting double digits, I was out.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: But you know, that's as much as you want to
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: highlight some of the positive stuff, it's just you know,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: at some point they've got to break the damn and
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: they've got to start playing good football against good teams again.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: And and and and giving themselves at least the opportunity
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: to win. Like I can handle the fact that they're
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: a team with a second year quarterback that can't quite
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: beat an elite team like the Ravens. Right now, Okay,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: that's fine, Like you know, there's the rebuild going on.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: That's fine. You fall a little bit short, I get it,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: But that only goes so far. At a certain point,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: you've been seeing these same kind of games over and
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: over again when they go in and play the good teams.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: At what point does it turn around? And you know,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: it's just I think it's not going to get any
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: easier this week, and and but again, I don't know
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: how much you really take from this game because they'd
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: be like, well they Brian Hoyer and there, what do
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: you want to do? You know? Yeah, that's why they
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: get so unfortunate in terms of the big pitcher to
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: have Mac Jones injured. But yeah, I mean I'm not
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: a big never have been a big fan of the
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: moral victory kind of thing unless you just have no
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: talent and you're you know, you're ripping it down to
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: the studds and you're starting over with new coach, new quarterback.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: You know, you're one of the process, you know, with
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: three years into the post Brady era, if they lose
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: to Packers twenty nineteen, is that a moral victory? No? Okay,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: just like, who are the Packers? They scored fourteen points
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: last week. I'm just wondering. Yeah, I mean they lost
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: all that. If they if they win twenty to nineteen,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: it's a regular victory. Um. But yeah, No, Like, I
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: don't I think this is a game that I don't.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself. I don't.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I don't expect to see the Packers with like thirty
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: something and the Patriots and the team in like the
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: low teens. Like, I don't anticipate this being a blowout. No,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: I don't think green Bay is that good. I think
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: they got enough, but I think they're better than you.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: I just don't think they're you know, they're not vintage
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: green Bay. Davante Adams is not there. Let's go to
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: Aaron in Connecticut. Hey, Aaron you okay? Um, I just
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: wanted to say I thought the sky was following like
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago. I am back down to
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: earth now. I actually feel in tours. My whole thing is,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: I know we need to work. I know it's gonna
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: take some time for us to get back to where
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: we used to be or assembles that. But my fear was,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: are the bill is going to run this division for
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: twenty years before we get it together again? And I
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: don't see that happening. I think that we're making strides.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: We're in the right direction. Parker looked pretty good, and
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: I feel like Jones looked really good too, other than
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: when he was trying to force it to Parker. But
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: he's a jump ball guy, so you do. That's something
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: to expect. So you guys, let me know if I'm
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: right or wrong. Well, you are neither right nor wrong.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: It's your take, right, I mean, how you I want
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: to know how you guys feel, because, like, like I
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: heard just a little earlier, you like, I don't know
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: if you want mcdonsh for five years or whatnot. Oh
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: I don't. I didn't. I didn't know about what you
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: want or what you don't want. I don't think he'll
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: be the quarterback in five years. I don't, no, no,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: and I and I don't think the picks were fifty
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: fifty balls either, on Sunday. No, nope, I think you
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: threw one to a linebacker. He the last one he
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: just overthrew boring and he threw one to the back
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: pylon expecting his guy to be there and he wasn't.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: That to me was probably a communication breakdown. But I
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: don't think that's designed to be a jump all I
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: guess here. Yeah, Parker was open in this game. Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: But the question is, like in two years, as Parker
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: even gonna be on the team, Well, my question is
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: is Parker going to be open consistently? Thanks Aaron, appreciate
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: the call. Yeah, I mean, to me, it's all about Mac. Yep,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: that's what it's all. But he had some deep throws,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: some deep outs, like I don't know what you call those,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: like post flat, post corner or something. I mean, like,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: I don't know. He had two of them that he
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: just perfectly dropped in, like just perfect throws, maybe thirty
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: yards down field. Those are the throws he can make,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: the ones that go like this if you're looking, if
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: you're looking for flashes, you saw more of them in
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: this game than any game we've seen so far of
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: Mac Jones. Yeah, you know, this season for sure, but
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: then he had to mistakes, but but he showed he
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: can't do things. Yeah, and any think on those throws too.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: When you watch him, it's, you know, it's all perfect,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Like he drops back the pockets clean, he's hits step
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: step throw. I mean, it's all in time. It looks good.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: That's why I liked the back shoulder throw because that
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: was just I'm gonna like, let this one ripe. There's
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: gotta be timing, there's gotta be precision, and there's gotta
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: be some zip on the ball. You can't have like
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: a lot of those back shoulder throws that are just
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: like hanging in the air. Yeah. And I gotta give
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: him some crack because I've been a little harsh on
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: on some of those float and I thought some of
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: those plays at the middle had had some good zip
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: on it. I mean, look like a couple who throws
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: up the middle. I'll give you an example of one. Yeah,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: the one that Agilo fumbled. Yeah, I don't know how
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: he got that in there. Yep. Fred thought it was
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: picked live and I thought he was right. And I
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: was like, Fred, you know, he's running with the Paul right.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: I thought that I didn't see it get over the defense.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: But it did. It was a great throw. He got
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: it over that and kind of throws. You know, to
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: your point, Fred, that you made very early in the
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: show about they protected him last year, I don't think
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: would have made that throw last year. Yeah, because he
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: wasn't really open, right, he had to force it in there.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: And I and like I said, you know, I'm not
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: going to go back before the season, I said, just
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: be decisive, Just be decisive. You're gonna make mistakes, but
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: it's okay. Be decisive with your throws. And I think
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: we saw more of that on Sunday than we have
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: so he I thought he threw the ball better Sunday
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: than he did in the first two games, but he
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: also made more mistakes Sunday than he did in the
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: first two games. Ye, Anthony writes, And I know it's
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: silly to ask hypothetical questions about trades or moves, but
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: just for entertainment purposes, would you type questions? Would you
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: take make the call and off Mac to San Francisco
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: for Trey Lance? Obviously knowing Lance is done for the season,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: and with reports that Kyle Shanahan liked Jones at draft time,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: I really like Trey Lance coming out. I might, I mean,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: I don't. I don't mean it as a shot at Mac,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: But I don't know. I don't really did like Trey
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Lance and thought he fit well. For how many years
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: is it gonna be before he's ready though, Trey Lance?
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: I mean he's how do you know he's not ready now? Well?
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: I mean it took him a while, and now he's
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: gonna start over here. He's gonna be thirty years old
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: and steen Mac has already started his first game and
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: Lances started games. Yeah, but you know what I mean, No,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: I don't he started one? What one game? He started
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: games last year and he started the season as the
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: starting quarterback this year. Yeah. Like, to me, it's not
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: about like where they are in the development, it's who
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: you like better? Who do you like better? Who do
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: you mean? Like if if Kyle Shanahan liked Mac Jones,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: he'd a drafted him. He drafted Trey Lance instead. Yeah, right,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Apparently apparently they had the third pick of the draft
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: they took Trey Lance, not Mac Jones. I assume that's
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: not apparently that's fact. I assume he liked I assume
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: he liked him better. Yeah, but the question is who
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: does he like now better? Yeah, I here's why I
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: would stick with Mac Jones. This is probably a button
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: hook for you guys. It's really got very little to
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: do with Trey Lance's skill set. It's a guy who
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: plays the way he does that just broke his ankle. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna step away from that, and I
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: want to stick with Mac Jones right now. Also, would
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: you unload some players for draft capital win Brown two
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: more teams lost their left tackles this weekend? Could you
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: play them against each other and get a decent return?
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: So we're just like waving, Yeah, it's over at one
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: and two. I mean they would they were were in
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: week four. They were two and four last year and
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: ended up ten and seven. Like Max just had his
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: ankle wrapped down his head. Let's trade our tackles, what now,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I listen, I'm not dismissing. I mean, I'm dismissing all
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: of it is out of question. But like Isaiah win
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: to the ninth is Trent Williams out now four to
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: six weeks? I don't know Isaiah win to the Niners,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I wouldn't completely dismiss that, but I don't
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: know what you for what. Yeah, it's a fifth round pick.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones is a free agent at the end of
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: this year. Deal them. I'm sure plenty of teams looking
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: for a good, speedy veteran to help their defense. Also
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: gives the Jones rookies more time to play and get
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: a good look. I'm not opposed to that either, But
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: that's another one that's like Jonathan Jones in a sixth
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: or Jonathan Jones and a seventh for a sixth. That's
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: what you're getting for like those kinds of moves. Also,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: why on earth is Bryant still fielding punts? He's gotten
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: a little bit of a long leash. Yeah, way longer
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: than my guys usually get when they lose the ball.
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: I think he knows the guys I like. I think
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: that's what it is. Although I wasn't encouraged to see
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: Marcus Jones get a chance to return kicks at least
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: the other day, even though they were all touchbacks for
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: the most part, but I did like, Um, that means
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: just the fact that he gave him the opportunity. I
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: was afraid that, you know, he mishandled a couple of
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: punch in the preseason. That was it. That's all you
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: can ask for. What do you think of that? Freddie?
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: I want some more athleticism. It's not a bad thing.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: Marcus Jones. I want to see, you know, especially this
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: let the kids play well. This offense I think needs
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: a you know, needs some taking the pay some help.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: Give them a little bit of help. Bob from the
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: teacher's lounge. I feel like the Patriots fans have developed
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: an expertise and identifying identifying a trap game over the
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: past twenty years. Given that we are now the trapper
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: instead of the trapped am I missing the clear signs
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: for a trap game coming up, there's definitely a trap.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Green Bay is coming off the big win in Tampa
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: and we're coming off the big loss. Yeah, I mean
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: they're you know, young, some young team. You know. It's funny, Paul,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: just watching um watching some of the tape of green Bay,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: watching there give Bay. It just was like kind of
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: reinforcement to me of what we've been kind of like
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: hoping for the last couple of years. Was it was
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: like just grab a couple of guys and the day
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: two of receivers and instantly you see Dabbs and I mean,
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: I know Watson was, but it's hurt. But two guys,
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: you know, I mean right away you've kind of like
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: got some guys in the pipeline that you're like, yeah,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: we lost the Fantanas, but it seems like you've got
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: some guys that can play. But we did this, like
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: let's not kill them. Yeah they drafted, he got her
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: um but yeah, that's what Mike and I were really, uh,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: you know, focusing our draft podcasts on, is let's find
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: a Day two receiver or two that we really like.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: And Dobbs looks like legit. Yeah, And you know in there,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: Watson dropped like a gimme touchdown. And I know you're
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: gonna sit there and you're gonna say, well, they're playing
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: with Aaron Rodgers, like that's easy. Yeah, it is, You're
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: You're absolutely right, But it also has a lot of
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: pressure because he's a dude. You know. I mean, do
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: you see Aaron Rodgers's reaction when Watson dropped that pass
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: that Mike is talking about, even like in the you know,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: he dropped it like like like in the press corm
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: It's like, come on, guy, like a kid, I could
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: see Dan Marino being more compassionate than that. But I'll
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: tell you he really wanted that game to beat Brady,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: to beat Brady. Oh, that was such a relief for
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: him to win that game. It was so weird for
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: them too, Like do you know how that like they
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: got the ball, they went touchdown, touchdown, and then fumbled
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: inside the one. Yeah, and then in the second half
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: they couldn't move the ball. It's crazy. And then Brady
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: couldn't move it the whole game, and then he gets
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: them down there they score. Now that is get off
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: the two point conversion. We talked about green Bays defense.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: That's a really good defense too. Tampa's defense is healthy.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Last year it wasn't um so that's a big difference. Yeah,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: I was watching them. I you know, I really like
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: the guy from Michigan with his name up front, um
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Blake Rashan Gary. He's tough, he's style, he's kind of
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: one of their guys. Deveandre Campbell has gotten a lot
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: of ink for them to kay Walker. Way Walker's playing
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: a little bit. Yeah, Like they played more of a
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: like an old school three four Freddy. So what I like?
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: I like when you talk schemes well, I'm talking in
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: the in generic schemes. I'm not putting anybody to sleep
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: by talking about you know, the the over under shade
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: and you know the five technique. No one wants to
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: hear about that. Careful because I got that'll be tomorrow.
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: We cut some flak on on Twitter today, Paul. This morning,
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: somebody said when you and I, when you were I
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: try to talk schemes, it's exhausting. I agree. I totally agree.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: Who who tweeted that, Evan Lazarre, some guy. I totally
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: agree that that letter sponsor numbers Greg but Die. That
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: is the greatest criticism that I've ever received, and I
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: receive a lot of them. Just go on that YouTube
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: channel and watch them making fun of me eating that
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: pizza last week Russell in Arkansas? Is it too late
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: to ask Tom to come back? On a more serious note,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: If Hoyer somehow looks good on Sunday and ends up
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: running the offense better than Mac, what does that say
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: about Mac? Also, I saw this morning that Kenny Galladay
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: is potentially being shopped around to trade for him. I mean,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: he has to be better than Born and he maybe
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: gives you another outside receiver option. No yeah. I mean,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: to be honest, I think we're all kind of expecting
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: it not to look that all that much different from
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: what it looked like with Mac. I mean, it looked
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: okay with Hoyer. He very limited snaps this summer. I
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: mean it was almost like bizarre about how little he would,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: you know, get like an interstitial period and then that
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: was it. You know. So I think the question we
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: talked about at the top was valid of like, well,
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: what are they doing? What is this offense? But I
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: think you could say if it was some kind of
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: offshoot or you know, held a lot in common with
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: one of the offenses that Brian Hoyer ran elsewhere, that
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: maybe it would look better. You know, maybe at least
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I think paulse thing which I like is, you know,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: at least initially out of the gate as they as
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: they know what he can do, and other teams aren't
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: quite sure yet, and you know, you played a horrier's
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: strengths and and you know, hopefully he does what he
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: didn't do in Kansas City, which is just give your
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: team a chance to win, don't throw the killer interception,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: hand the ball off, take the easy plays. But I
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: mean I'm not I'm not going to be shocked if
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: the first game or two he maybe moves the ball,
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: maybe looks a little bit more comfortable than Mack. He
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: will have stretches, assuming he plays, which you know, but
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: I safe assumption he will have stretches where the offense
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: looks good. But he knows how to play football. He
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: had stretches back in his career where he pulled off
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: some wins and he did pretty well. But he's all
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: in eleven in his last starts. Yep, you know that's
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: not good. You didn't know that one. Hundn't heard that
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: one yet. You weren't exhausted. I didn't pass twenty twenty.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: Yeah he's eleven. Yeah, he's last eleven stars. He's oe
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: eleven um physically, he just doesn't have it mentally. I
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: think that's why he's in the league, because he's a
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: smart quarterback who can be a good sounding blow. First daughter,
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: just show you know Fred, gotta watch him. I know
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: he's on the edge, wise guy nobody, but right now,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: in particular, he's he's in a dark he's in a
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: dark place. I would tune in probably let's see Losing
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Home seventh. I tuned it in around seven forty five
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: eight o'clock Sunday night. You might hear some vile things
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: coming out of Mike shows. I'll be making the noise
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: Mac was making when he was coming on be ready
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: with that button on Sunday Night. Matt Morale, Uh, Johnston
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: blew again. Johnson and Porter's Lake, Nova, Scotia. Porter's Lakes
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: like a good place that they make a good beer.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Porter's Lake the poor bager. You know they have mill
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: of lake. Oh, I'm sure, Okay, then it's great lake.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: I'm in. I wasn't too optimistic going into this season,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: and now that Mac is going to be sideline, is
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: this Hoyer full out? Or could there be a chance
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: Bill give Zappy a shot? How bad would your boy be?
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: Boy have to be for Zappy to get in there?
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: I mean pretty bad. I mean I understand why fans
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: are intrigued by Zappy because it's an unknown and you think, hey,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: maybe he'd get in there. I'm not. You know, I
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: don't either. I think there are some I watched the
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: summer right, but that's what people hadn't watched, and I think,
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: you know, hey, you got a rookie quarterback. Maybe the
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: preseason games I assume they watched the preseason games. When
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: you're just running around, you'd be surprised. He looked much
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: better on the practice field than in the preseason games.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: Hope ball as well. Quite a few Patriots fan Patriots
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: fans in Atlantic Canada sitting in the dark since Friday
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: due to Hurricane Fiona. Downloading the podcast at libraries helped
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: me get through hurricane and boredom of no power. We're
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: hopeful to see this weekend's game. Wow, I forgot about that.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: Fiona came off the coast and then went back and
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: hit Canada. Yeah. Yeah, my dad's right in the firing
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: line for this one that's coming up this week. He's
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: down a tap Fort Myers, Charlotte. This is like the
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: first like heavy duty hurricane tamp has had in like
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: a hundred years or something like that. Yeah, like that
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: seems weird, Yeah, handhandle. Yeah. So the answer the question,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: how bad would Hoyer have to be? I legitimately don't
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: think it's possible for him to be bad enough, and
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: not because of Zappie. But I'm just gonna go back
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: to twenty twenty. I think Cam Newton played as bad
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: as you can possibly play, and we still didn't get
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: to see Stidham start a game. H Yeah, so I
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: think he's gonna say, Joya, gives me a better shot.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: Let's get back to the phones. Todd's in North Carolina.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: Hey Todd, Hey guys, I was I watched the game
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: a couple of times, Skin, and I'm really kind of
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: confused about how how do you define the read progression
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: for Matt because his eyes seem to dart all over
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: the place and then he just fixates, like for the
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: first i'd say ten seconds, he looks all over the place.
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: We'll not ten. For the first little bit, he's all
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: over the place, and then he he'll just hyper focus
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: on one person. Is that normally how a progression goes
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: for a quarterback? Well, it depends on how quickly they
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: get rid of it. It's, you know, progression, but then
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: you got to get rid of it, you know. I
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: do think there are plays that they've run where if
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: it seems like he don't really have many options, he's
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: going to one guy. I think some of those ones
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: that we talk Fourth and three is a one read play,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: like the snap balls out, you're going right there and
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: he gets tackled behind the line. Yeah, I don't know,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: so can that affect like, can his progression be affected
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: by his confidence in the pocket? Is that maybe why
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: he's yeah going fast? Oh yeah, for sure. It's all.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: I mean, it's all connected. I feel you know, it's all.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: It's all one thing. I mean, it's hard to break
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: it out and be like he's not getting through Louis.
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: But it's also hard for us to tell you what
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: his progressions are. Yeah, you would think after the Pittsburgh
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: game he'd have a little bit more confidence, but then
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: you know Baltimore, I think they were a little It's
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: like I told you, I don't think the past protection
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: was as great in Pittsburgh as the numbers indicating. Okay,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: I think he did a really good I think he
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: was much better in the pocket against Pittsburgh than he
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: was against Miami. And the only real difference, not the
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: only difference, but the major difference was those two runaway
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: guys in Miami were not there in Pittsburgh. Were no breakdowns.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: Any pressure that he had for the most part against
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: Pittsburgh was just a guy beat a block. In this
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: game I think was similar. I think he had a
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: lot of pressure on him in this game. I think
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: the offensive line has just been okay the last two games.
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: Not that good. Sean at Seattle love the show. The
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: towny isms may take me back to my roots. Bill
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: has built a Hall of Fame career out of adapting
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: scheme systems and approaches to put the team in the
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: best position to win. While his struggles in the draft
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: a well documented, one thing that has not attracted as
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: much scrutiny is his pension from making an extended example
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: of a talented player for seemingly minor infractions. This KB
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: saga seems to be the latest example of bb PO
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: vaulting over mouse turds to the detriment of the team winning.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: Has papered over this in the past, but given the
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: state of the team, this could unravel pretty quickly. Interested
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: in your thoughts and whether you think Bill has been
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: slower to adapt to evolving player personalities than he has
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: in other areas. I don't know. I mean, I think
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: everybody's harping on this born thing. Um is there another
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: recent example of him? Well, the running back last year? Um,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: two years Yeamandre Stevenson fumbled in the opener and see
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: him for like four weeks. Yeah, but then Miles, Bryan
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: JJ Taylor, Uh, you know fumbled, we never saw him again. Well,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: Brian could be just the thing where he doesn't trust him,
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: but the other begin doesn't Marcus Jones because you know
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: he's a rookie, right, I think he might. I think
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: he feels like he doesn't have an option because I
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: don't think you'd still see Myles be interesting to see Sunday, right,
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: because he's screwed up twice, Right, two games in a row,
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: be interesting to see if this, if he stays back
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: there Sunday, then I think that's an example that he
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: doesn't think any anybody else's any more trustworthy. But to me,
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: I think he's talking more about not physical mistakes, but
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: the off field stuff like the West Welker thing, that
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: Michael Bennett situation. I don't know, like I agree with him.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: He's putting it all on Bill because I think this
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: is everybody's blaming Patricia for for that. I think it's
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Bill because Bill ultimately decides who plays and who doesn't play.
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the reason he's not playing now,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I think that he definitely
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: got in the doghouse for whatever reason. At some point
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: this summer he was in the doghouse. I'm not sure
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: that he's not playing now because he was in the doghouse. No,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: I agree, I don't. I'm not sure. I'm not telling
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: you that he is is playing enough to think he's
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: out of the but enough that it makes you think
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: that they just don't. Really I think they. I think
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: they honestly believe that if they don't have that extra
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: blocker out there, then they'd be worse off than Okay,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: so this are So that's one thing that I would say, like,
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: here's and again I really hesitate to get into I
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: know more about football than these guys. If he thinks
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: that's that's the reason, that's a bad reason. If you're
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: playing one wide receiver over another for the running game,
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: that that's a bad reason. Like you're telling me that
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: I can't run the ball the way I want to
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: run it if I don't have little Jordan Humphrey out there.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: They may also be thinking about those short passes in
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: the flat blocking for those which right, yeah, that's I
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: think you're right, But I just I go back to
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: those numbers. I spit out where it's like the way
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: you're doing it is you're having three guys who are
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: unproductive and although Borne is playing little like at least
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: he is productive in the little role that he is playing.
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: How can you get every everybody involved? How can you
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: get all of this clicking? And you know, I don't know.
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: That's what I wonder about the tight ends. Is this
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: like a scheme thing? Do they not really know how
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: to get those guys open? Is it not part of
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: the plan right now? It's just it seems they're so
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: interested in pushing the ball down the field and trying
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: to take shots whenever possible that it just almost feels
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: like a detriment. And now you're having people call him
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: being like we got to get back to the bend
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: or the dinkin dunk. I mean, I never thought I
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: would hear that again, but I mean I kind of
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: agree with it of just you know, taking what's there
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: and not you know, putting everything on these thirty yard
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: throws and you know, hit or miss and oh it's great,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: we hit it. Oh though they intercepted it. It's like,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: but that's the real sense, if that's if that's really
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: they want to get it down field? More like that
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: did not even make it more silly that you would
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: have Humphrey out there more than than Born. Yeah, and
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: I agree, Like I could tell by the Deuce's facial expression,
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: and we argued about this on the TV show this
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: week in the fairness already, Um, I agree with you,
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: like there is an element that the less Born plays
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: and the longer the we go that he's not a
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: part of it, the better player Born becomes. Kendrick Bourne
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: is a good, solid, complimentary piece to the puzzle, right, Fred,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: would you think he's Did you think he's more than that?
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: Because we can argue if you do. No, he's not
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: a number one, but no, but he's a good pia
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: like I think he's Yeah, Okay, I just want to, like,
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: you know, because we don't all have to have the
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: same opinion of every player. I think he's a good,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: solid player. I think he's now being treated like this
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: unbelievable game breaker that the Patriots have kept on ice
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: and costing him games as a result, Like they would
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: have won Sunday if he didn't fumble. I don't. I
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: don't know, like if he played a little bit more
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: like I kind of I see the look on Deuce's
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: face and it's like, we're not talking about Justin Jefferson here,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: We're talking about Kendrick Bourne. He's a good he's a
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: good player. I like Born, made some good place. I
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: like Born. I think he's a good player. I don't
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: think he's a difference maker. Joe's in San Antonio. I
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: think it's time to stop making excuse uses for the Patriots.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: Let's face it, the Patriots are who they are to
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: be extremely honest. The coaching staff isn't great, and it's
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: trickling down to both defense and offense. The Patriots need
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: a talented, creative, aggressive offensive coach and we really really
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: must look for one next season or sooner. I really
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: do like Matt Jones, but right now, the entire system
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: isn't doing him any good. So the emailer is completely
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: convinced that the talent is there, but the coaching's letting
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: him down. Yeah, well he's saying it's not helping, that's
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: for sure. Yeah. I think it's more than that. I
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: don't think this is all on the coaches. This is
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: kind of what I feared before the season started, that
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: they'll get off to a slow start and it's all
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: going to be because of Matt Patricia And I'm not
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: trying to defend Matt Patricia or Joe Judge. I think
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: it's I think my feelings on the topic are well known.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: I think it was kind of foolish to set it
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: up this way. I just don't think that's why they struggle. Well,
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's tough for me. I go
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: to the backs of the draft. We've talked plenty about
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: the draft, and you know it's now Max hurt. I mean,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: you know we're waiting for Dugger to really take that step.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: He's hurt. Stevenson has looked good, like can we get
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: him more action. It's just I think what what's troubling
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: to me is is just to go back to that
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: point of like these last three years of all feel
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: kind of similar, and I just I don't feel like
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: we're seeing players like Barmore take these strides. Yet we're
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: not seeing Mac Jones year two taking significant strides. You know,
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: everybody's just Dauch. He's not taking really any strides. Anthony
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: Jennings was was, Oh, he's gonna be great this year.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: I mean, he's kind of like hanging by your threats
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: right edge. Rundown Active one game he barely played at
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: another UM. And I'll take a shot at myself. You know,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: probably around this time last year, I was clamoring right now,
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: to defend myself, I'll say I was clamoring for a
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: lot of young players to get chances to play those
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: a lot of those young players that have gotten chances
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: to play haven't haven't looked great so far. And I'll
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: give you one example of a player I think is excellent,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: and I kept saying he needs to play more. He's
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: not just a third down guys. Barmore and Barnmore has
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: gotten chances to play on more than just that are down,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: and it hasn't really been overly productive. In fairness, so
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: I can, on one hand, I'm gonna make fun of
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: myself by saying I was I was calling for more
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: oocha and getting these guys involved. But on the other hand,
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, well, maybe if you had done that
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: last year, they'd be further along in the development this year,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: which is why I wanted them to play last year
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: through the mistakes, and they, you know, in most cases,
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: didn't get a chance to do that. Dave and Bethlehem,
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: please comment on these points. One coach must take over
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator job. Losing McDaniels, it's like losing your
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: right hand. Plays calls by Matricia Patricia are like using
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: a mirror to get dress left handed. He's already knee
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: deep in it. I mean, if it'll make you feel
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: better that he had set on and he's the one
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: relaying them in. But I think his hands are all
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: over every single play call that they make, regardless of
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: who relays the call to mac Jones. I think he's
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: been instrumental on offense so far to the detriment of
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: the defense. I think there was a play that he
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: might might have challenged in the Pittsburgh game that I
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: don't think he ever saw because he was looking at
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: the offense. And I think in this game that you know,
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: people are like they just never did anything different than
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: there was no because I think Bill's watching the offense.
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: Bill's looking, he's talking to the offensive players when the
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: defense is on the field, and that might be why
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: the second half, you know, unraveled the way it did. Defensively.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Two coaches, Callie and Troy Brown and Judge have been ineffective.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: Time to move on, Oh I don't, I don't know what,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: like based on what all he's looking at tight end
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: play and so what about the tight end play hasn't
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: been good? They're not playing they play, I mean they're
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: not producing well, they're not getting the ball thrown to them.
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: Yeah three, Mac absolutely should get a running ball pretty well,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: aren't they. Mac absolutely should get a second opinion? Oh yeah,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: of course. I always agree with that. I always sigh
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: with the player on that. And finally make John who
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: earn his money, I agree with that. I think they're
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: trying to. Yeah, I mean it just I think the
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: ship is sailed on Jono Smith, like he's is there
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: anything conventional when he's involved? Like one of the biggest
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: plays that he's made in is one in one year
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: in three games is the fourth down play that Max
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: somehow avoided seventeen guys trying to sack him and then
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: he rolled out to the left and threw it to
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: Jonah Smith for the first time. Nothing to do with
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Jonathan Smith. He just happened to be the guy, right.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's it's frustate, frustrating for fans because
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: you watch other games like last night the Giants and Cowboys.
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: I only saw the first half, but like you know,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: Jones was hitting his tight end and you know, not
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: a lot of yards after catch. But the guys using
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: the middle of the field the same way other teams
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: use the middle of the field against us, where they
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: scheme the tight end wide open in the middle of
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: the field, and we haven't been able to do that
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: for some reason. But it seems like it seems like
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: every team is able to do that. I just wouldn't
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: put that on the tight ends. I'd put it on Mac. Yeah, okay,
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: I just think the problem the tight ends that I've
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: come to realize is that they're neither here nor there,
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: Like neither one of them can really block, and neither
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: one of them are really plus athletes. Now, I think
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: they're functional NFL tight ends better than like Lacosse and
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: Ryan Izzo from a couple of years ago when you
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: were like, oh my gosh, we really have nothing. So
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: I don't want to make it sound like they're that bad,
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: but I don't think they move the needle as blockers
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: or as receivers really, And yeah, that's just like they're fine.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: I would agree with that. And then you know, with
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: the receivers, when was the last time they had a
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: hundred yard receiver before this year. They didn't have any
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: last year, right, I don't think so, might have been
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: like Edelman or or maybe they had one. I don't know,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: did one have one hundred in that Dallas game we
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: had the seventy five yard touchdown. The point is it
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: was a long time between one hundred yard receivers. Then
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: they had one in Week two, and they had one
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: in Week three. Different guys, by the way, like, so, Ty,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: why is Troy Brown on the hot seat? Yea, what
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: did he do? Yeah? Yes, I'm defensive. I'm a little
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: defensive there, but I like I I'm not a big
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: fan of the position. Coaches stink because the guys that
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: play that position had a bad year. And I don't
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: think that they're having bad years. I just I think
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: there's been plenty of examples where Henry's been open and
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: they haven't thrown it to him. Christians in La, what's up, Christian?
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: Hey you guys, how are you doing. How's everyone feeling today?
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Very good man? Yeah, little mondays, So, you know, I
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: was thinking that and hear me out here that it
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: might not be the worst thing ever that Mac has
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: hurt for a bit. I think in a sense it's
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: a pressure release. It takes the heat off of Mac
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: in the way, it takes the heat off of the
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: coach in the way, it actually takes the heat off
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: the team in the way. And if Dappy comes in
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: and he does it at best Cooper Rush, let's say
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: for five six weeks and build some trade capital or whatever,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: we might wind up even with a high draft pick
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: this year because our quarterback got hurt and we were
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: out of the six games in blah blah blah, and
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: we wind up with a really great receiver that I
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: think it could be a difference maker next year. What
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: do you guys think about thinking that way or that
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: my way of saying, let's tank. Yeah, well, yeah, you know,
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna be Zappy by the way. Yeah,
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: I just think it's not fair. But to Zappy, Yeah,
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: I mean, well the rest of the players. I mean,
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: that's you know, that could be the result. But I
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: you know, I think I think people are worried about
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: Max's development for the most play. Yeah. I mean to
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: go back to Paul's point, I mean, if he misses
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: enough games that they're that bad, then it's kind of
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: hard to draft a quarterback and thanks for the call.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: I also just think and that's why I was instantly
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: like I would say, yes, you have to consider it,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: but I don't think they will. I think Mac Jones
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: is there kind of guy that they like to work with,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: and they believe that kind of guy is what they
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: want at that position. So that's why I think they
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: would they would ride with him. I think they would
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: look somewhere else. I mean, and I'm saying this is
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: somebody who thinks that you consider all options for sure,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: but I would be surprised if they went out and
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: instantly took another quarterback, especially if it was because Mac
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: missed like ten to fifteen game, or you know, whatever
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: it is. It's hard to do, hard to lose your
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: job like that. Jacket and Aba writes in When one
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: gets down to brass tacks, the analysis of the Patriots
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: lost to the Ravens is relatively simple. Ravens super athletic
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: quarterback Lamar Jackson took over the game in the fourth quarter.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: The Patriots needed one of two things to counter Jackson.
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: Either the Patriots needed multiple very athletic defenders, which the
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: Patriots don't have, or the Patriots needed multiple offensive playmakers
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: to make the plays to outweigh Jackson, which the Patriots
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: don't have. Until one of those things changes, the Patriots
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: will continue to struggle. Well, I mean, yes against Lamar
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: Jackson in that offense. I mean, I you know, and
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: I mean really it looked it wasn't quite as bad
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: as twenty nineteen was, but it was kind of similar,
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: and that Lamar was kind of doing whatever he wanted
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: with the ball down in at the end. But you know,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: I still think they're unique. And I wouldn't like if
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: Mac hadn't gotten hurt at this game, I would have
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: been in just throw this game out, stop making mistakes.
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: You you prove that you can, at least for a
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: good chunk of a team, look like you belong out
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: there and go back and forth with them a little
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: bit and score more points than a lot of people did.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: I mean, Hardy's key was scored twenty four. They they
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: scored twenty six, So um, you know, so, I mean
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: there were elements there. It's just I think it's it's
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: hard to feel great after the Mac injury, and you know,
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: you just you feel like you're putting that whole development
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: down for a little bit until he's back. Tony says,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: it's not turning around this year. It's a four to
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: five year rebuild starting last year. Don't look for game
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: to game improvement. You will see up and down movement
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: for the next couple of years. It is what it is.
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: The team lacks talent. Yeah, but he was saying that
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: for three I mean, why why is this year one? Like,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: why couldn't twenty twenty have been your Well, he's saying
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: last year was year, last year was It's twenty twenty
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: was last year? Burn it off? Yeah, when they signed
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: all the free agents. By the way, Brett and Austen
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: writes in can we please go with Zappy for the
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: time that Jones is out? What good is it going
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: to be to go with Hoyer these next few games? Yes,
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: he provides us the best chance to win, But with
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: this season in this team, I think we would get
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: more out of having Zappy played than Hoyer. At least
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: it would be interesting to watch. I see, I'm really
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: confused by some definitions of interesting. If you were right now,
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: if you were sitting with a record off, like let's
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: just say I don't know four and six, and you
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: wanted to make an argument for Zappy. I could understand,
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: you're one and two, you have fourteen games left. You're
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: telling me that you shouldn't go with the guy who
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: gives you the best chance to win. Right. Let's say
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: that you think he's got to play four games, and
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: you're thinking, just somehow find a way to go two
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: and two, and you think Hoyer gives you a significantly
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: better chance than Zappy. Yeah, let me have to go
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: too and two? Right, Yeah, the season's not over. Let
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: me ask a question if or And do you know
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: he's an emailer so I can't ask him personally. But
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: if somehow the Patriots had won that game and Mac
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: got hurt at the end the same way he did,
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: and he was going to be out for an extended
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: period of time, great point. Would you be saying the
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: same thing? No, you'd a great point when you know, yeah, right,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: we show we could be a team. Right. What if
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: on that last play he threw a touchdown and it
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: was a game winning touchdown, right, and then he would
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: everybody be saying you should go with Zappi. At least
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: it'd be interesting, right, It's it's just the difference of
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: one game. Do you have hop lipped down to the
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: rate on one leg. Yes, the only thing missing was
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: the tennis racket getting fired across the field. But I
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: just think that people, you know, we are reactionary, and
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: we we got exposed a little bit in this game.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: And yeah, and I think that um people are you know,
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: knee jerk a little bit. It's just the appeal of
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: the un I think they only people suggest that is
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: that they think that there's a chance that Bailey z
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: Appy is going to come in and be magically a superstar.
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: And you're like, oh my gosh, look it happened again.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: Listen if they had to play, if Mac is let's
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: just say Mac is out long terne, Let's say Mac
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: is out for two months. I don't necessarily want to
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: watch Brian Hoyer for eight or nine games unless he
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: I mean, unless he comes out wins like the first
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: three or four. Let's face it, If they pull off
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: an upset on Sunday, then it's Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago. But
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: watch those are winnable games. Watching Bailey z Appy is
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: only good if he comes right out and is good.
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: I'm just telling you that you guys think that Mac
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: Jones was up and down on Sunday. Yeah, right, you
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: don't know a lot up on Bowns. I don't know
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: what I did there. Yeah, I don't either. But bailey'sz appy,
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: and this is no disrespect to him. Is nowhere near
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: ready to play in an NFL game. Yep, Philip a
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: is in Rio de Janeiro. Just to support Paul's argument
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: in relation to turnovers, don't you think that the script
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: is always the same because the team is not that
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: talented and it is under tremendous pressure just to keep
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: up with the opposition. In other words, we have to
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: go above and beyond just to compete, and that's why
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: turnovers have been on the rise. It's no coincidence that
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: those mistakes don't happen against lesser competition. This is who
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: the team has been. Is not something that we can
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: just ignore and hope to go away unless we acquire
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: more talent. Yeah, I agree, like the large part of that.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: I agree. Like, yeah, when you're behind and you're chasing
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: two schools in the second half of games, you're gonna
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: turn the ball over. That's that's what happens. Do you
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: know that he's played twenty one games now? Mac Jones
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: twenty one starts. Counting the playoff game, he's eleven and
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: ten you know what, you touchdowns and interceptions. He has
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: twenty six touchdowns, twenty picks, twenty one games, twenty picks.
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: That's a lot of picks. Yeah, okay, you don't think
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: so won a game, No, it is, but I mean,
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: I just I'm not surprised. I had to see. I am.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: He's guys that's supposed to not make mistakes, supposed to
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: protect the well that I mean, that wouldn't be surprised
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: if it was like early Drew Bledsoe, who throws it
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: all over the place recklessly. What he had what thirteen
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: last year? Thirteen picks? I think that's yes, right, yeah,
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: which isn't bad, you know, right, But this year he's
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: got eight five five to win the playoff game. Oh okay.
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: It's interesting though to hear you say those, because I
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: hadn't looked them up or specifically looked at them. But
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: I mean, I just think it's like everything. I think
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: last year Mac was about in the middle of the
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: league as a quarterback. I think those are about middling
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: average numbers. Like you know, it's it's it's hard to
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: get off of he's an average quarterback. To me, if
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: you're going to throw a pick a game, you need
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: to be like Patrick Mahomes or you know, Brett Farve,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: one of these guys. That's just yeah, Josh Allen, you're
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: running all You're running all over the field, you throw
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: a pick and you come back next drive and score.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw five touchdowns. I might throw a pick
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: on the way because I'm gonna try to make these
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: incredible plays all over the field, and more often than not,
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it. But every once in a while,
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: one's gonna get away. You can't have the no touchdowns
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: with the three picks, you know, that's and that's you're
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: you're getting at it right now because it's it's just
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: exhausted on the edge. I might I might be able
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: to I might finish them off on Sunday. Friend. It's
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: it's just it's got to be tough as a player
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: to believe that you have to be perfect every game.
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: We can't make mistakes. We you know we can't. We
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: don't have the pieces to overcome them. We have to
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: play perfect every week. And I just wonder how much
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: that pressure is kind of built up or it's just
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: like you can't go in every week feeling like you
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: need to be perfect. You need enough playmakers on both
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: sides of the ball that we're gonna have some wiggle room.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: We're gonna go after it. We're gonna be aggressive, we're
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: gonna make some mistakes, but we have enough to over Bills,
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: you know, like his his old thing. They'd be in
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: meetings and Bill be like, don't be the guy that
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: makes them. They're like, well it for all the guy,
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: then is it okay? I am Spartacus. I made the mistakes.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: All right. That's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots.
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: I promise we'll see brighter things tomorrow on Wednesday, when
