- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. We are on episode 50! Can you believe it? Luna: Wow, 50 episodes! That is so cool. Lucas: Yeah. You know what I love about this journey? We've taught so many useful words. Luna: We have. From family to food to body parts. Lucas: And today, I thought we'd do something a little different. Let's talk about feelings. Luna: Oh, emotions. That sounds fun. Lucas: Exactly. So today's target words are two basic emotions: happy and sad. Luna: Okay. Let's hear the Malay words. Lucas: First, happy in Malay is gembira. Luna: Gembira. Lucas: Yes. Gembira. Luna: Gembira. I like how it sounds. Lucas: It is a happy word. Now, sad is sedih. Luna: Sedih. Lucas: Yes. Sedih. Luna: Sedih. That one sounds a bit sad. Lucas: It does, doesn't it? So let's practice saying I am happy. Saya gembira. Luna: Saya gembira. Lucas: Perfect. Saya gembira. Luna: Saya gembira. Lucas: Now, I am sad. Saya sedih. Luna: Saya sedih. Lucas: Good. Saya sedih. Luna: So if I say Saya gembira, I am happy. Lucas: Exactly. And if you say Saya sedih, you are sad. Luna: Got it. What about he or she? Like he is happy. Lucas: Great question. He is happy is Dia gembira. Luna: Dia gembira. Lucas: Yes. And she is sad is Dia sedih. Luna: Dia sedih. Lucas: Perfect. So dia can mean he or she. Luna: That's convenient. Lucas: It is. So let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: gembira. Luna: Gembira. Lucas: Sedih. Luna: Sedih. Lucas: Saya gembira. Luna: Saya gembira. Lucas: Saya sedih. Luna: Saya sedih. Lucas: Dia gembira. Luna: Dia gembira. Lucas: Dia sedih. Luna: Dia sedih. Lucas: Excellent. Now, let's use them in a little scene. Pretend you just got a gift. Luna: Okay. I love gifts. Lucas: So you open it and you are happy. What do you say? Luna: Saya gembira. Lucas: Yes! And if your friend didn't get a gift, she might be sad. Luna: Dia sedih. Lucas: Right. Or you could say, 'I am happy because I got a gift.' We haven't learned 'because' yet, but you can just say Saya gembira. Luna: Saya gembira. That's enough. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do another one. Imagine you are watching a movie that makes you sad. Luna: Saya sedih. Lucas: Good. And if your friend is laughing, she is happy. Luna: Dia gembira. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's add a question. How do you ask 'Are you happy?' in Malay? You say 'Awak gembira?' Luna: Awak gembira? Lucas: Yes. And 'Are you sad?' is 'Awak sedih?' Luna: Awak sedih? Lucas: Great. So if I ask you 'Awak gembira?' you can say 'Ya, saya gembira.' Luna: Ya, saya gembira. Lucas: Or 'Tidak, saya sedih.' Luna: Tidak, saya sedih. Lucas: Excellent. Let's practice that exchange. I'll ask, you answer. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Awak gembira? Luna: Ya, saya gembira. Lucas: Awak sedih? Luna: Tidak, saya gembira. Lucas: Nice. You turned it around. Luna: I am happy, not sad. Lucas: That's the spirit. So today we learned gembira and sedih. Luna: And how to use them with saya and dia. Lucas: And a question with awak. Really useful for checking on friends. Luna: Definitely. I can now ask my Malay friends how they feel. Lucas: That's the goal. Let's do one more round of repetition. Repeat after me: gembira. Luna: Gembira. Lucas: Sedih. Luna: Sedih. Lucas: Saya gembira. Luna: Saya gembira. Lucas: Dia sedih. Luna: Dia sedih. Lucas: Awak gembira? Luna: Awak gembira? Lucas: Perfect. That wraps up episode 50 of Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: I love these words. They are so easy to remember. Lucas: I'm glad you liked it. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Bye bye! Saya gembira! Lucas: Saya gembira too. Bye!
