- 0:003 so much just umm, you know, time tests, time attack matters
- 0:04in these tests and situation. And what are your thoughts on
- 0:07all you guys on Baja coming in and with Katie?
- 0:10Is it is it certain brands you, you start to umm, you know, put
- 0:14stickers on their car because you don't like them anymore for
- 0:16next year. Should Suzuki be doing more for
- 0:18for the motorcycle culture? What would you be doing right
- 0:21now for your offseason prep for next season?
- 0:25Talk about some of the prep stuff that you guys do.
- 0:27What are your thoughts when you hear people say, you know, so
- 0:30it's too expensive to go to track.
- 0:32That's why I don't go. Welcome back to another edition
- 0:49of the Be Forever Cool podcast. My name is Rex 45.
- 0:52And it is a holiday week for us and for most people in the
- 0:56country. So we're going to make it light
- 0:58and have a little bit of fun. We're going to talk a little bit
- 1:01of Moto America, some testing in Moto GP.
- 1:05It's the offseason for some of us, not everyone.
- 1:08So, you know, we're going to find out who still has to work.
- 1:11But the rest of us are trying to put our bikes back together or
- 1:15get something fixed and all that fun stuff.
- 1:17So should be a good entertaining show.
- 1:20So definitely keep it locked. Let's bring the first person in
- 1:24and see what he's been up to. TJ, man, welcome to the show.
- 1:27How you doing this tonight? Are we doing good over here?
- 1:31You know, you know, we always bring up my Patriots go.
- 1:35Ahead and say it. Go ahead and say it 'cause if.
- 1:37We don't we still win. We're we're still winning.
- 1:41I think it's time for you guys to start being worried who guys
- 1:48you know, just the rest of the league, just the.
- 1:49Rest of OK, most of you guys, man, you like you're lumping me
- 1:53in that you have to say the rest of the the people out there that
- 1:57I you know, it's, it's hard to say because it is a fluke.
- 2:00I mean, they're telling too. They got the best record in in
- 2:04the league, which is very surprising for everyone.
- 2:06So I don't think I, you know, I'm not going to say where
- 2:09they're going to end up. I mean, anything is possible,
- 2:11but I don't know if I see that that that ult, that trophy at
- 2:15the end, but anything is possible.
- 2:17So you're excited that the Patriots are winning and it's
- 2:21nice and warm in Boston. Yeah, it's warm up here, you
- 2:24know, sunshine, it's a nice 45° so, but you know, it's just
- 2:33getting ready for, you know, the next season and, you know,
- 2:37motorcycle racing to come up in February.
- 2:40So that's all I'm looking forward to now that test
- 2:43testing's over and Moto GP and all the series is over.
- 2:47So all. Right, man, it's a tough time.
- 2:49You got to you got to look in the mirror and find that you
- 2:52know you don't have a life outside of motorcycles.
- 2:56What do we do? No.
- 2:59Doubt. No doubt.
- 3:00Reese, man, welcome to the show. What's good, man?
- 3:02I mean, you know, I we don't let the cat out the bag.
- 3:05Apparently you're still at the racetrack, so, you know, you're
- 3:08living the dream still while the rest of us are looking at
- 3:11reruns. What's good, man?
- 3:13Yeah, it was good, man. You know, you can call it living
- 3:15a dream, but you still got to work, man.
- 3:17You still got to get ready for the upcoming season, man.
- 3:19So And the answer Tji don't know about them Patriots.
- 3:23I mean, you still got to. You still got to, as they say,
- 3:26you still got to come to Philly. OK, OK, OK.
- 3:30You got to get that cheese steak.
- 3:34Still got to come to Philly, Still got to come all.
- 3:36Right, that's what's up, man. We'll bring you Lewis in and
- 3:39we'll find out where you've been, where you're at testing
- 3:42and all that fun stuff. Lewis, man, welcome to the show.
- 3:45What's good, man? What's going on man?
- 3:47How was your weekend? You know, I went out on my bike
- 3:51yesterday, man, and I, I probably did close to 300 miles
- 3:56on on the V4. I found some roads that are not
- 4:00straight in Florida. So I will say they are roads
- 4:03that are not straight. But they were flat.
- 4:06Not a little bit of elevation, but you know, I mean, there's
- 4:09just a lot of farm, a lot of farmland.
- 4:14I'm I was wondering if somebody was going to come and and start
- 4:16yelling, you know, keep the noise down by, you know, cloud
- 4:20exhaust is passing your crib, you know, so, but what's good
- 4:24with you, man? I got out on the lawn mower.
- 4:28I was doing at least 7 miles an hour.
- 4:31It was. It was riveting, super exciting.
- 4:35Gotcha, gotcha. I don't know how much lawn you
- 4:37have, but occasionally, you know, I'm like, I could probably
- 4:41cut like more jello in my, my yard cutting the grass.
- 4:45I don't know. I don't know if I have enough
- 4:46time and patience to do it, but it crossed my mind to make a
- 4:49little grass racetrack. I I have enough lawn where the
- 4:52first time I went to mow this lawn I I rented a push mower and
- 4:57about an hour into push mowing I went and took that mower back
- 5:01and bought a riding ward because I still had 80% of the grass
- 5:05left to cut even with the push mower.
- 5:08Listen, man, that that I I give people credit that go out there
- 5:11and cut and use those push mowers because you need
- 5:13something that's ridable for sure.
- 5:16But let's talk about racing and motorcycling and and all the fun
- 5:19stuff we do like single cylinder engines as well as those in
- 5:23lines and all that fun stuff. Guys, I don't even know where to
- 5:27start, but let's start. You know, testing happen over
- 5:29after the last round. Toparak was able to come out and
- 5:33and ride that V4 Bulla goes out there.
- 5:36How much of testing, how much, how much does it depend dictate
- 5:43what happens through the season? Is it more just kind of a
- 5:46shakedown more for us, the fans? You know, Reece, you can attest
- 5:50more than the rest of us because you're going through testing
- 5:52right now. You know, there's something that
- 5:54you're saying here saying, man, I could have stayed home and
- 5:56take a nap, but are you locked in 100%?
- 5:59What are your thoughts TJ on on testing over over in Europe Moto
- 6:04GP? I mean, the fact that they just
- 6:07came off of AGP race and testing at the same track, you know, I
- 6:13don't know how much data they can actually get out of what
- 6:17they were performing, you know, all season.
- 6:20So I think it's more of like a shakedown just to see what the
- 6:25new bike can bring you. And, you know, everybody has a
- 6:29different goal at this point. You know, that's per SE like
- 6:34Diego Moreira is his first time 1 of GP bikes.
- 6:37So his take on is just to get get the feeling right, you know,
- 6:41get used to everything and see how the controls work.
- 6:44So that time is precious for him.
- 6:46And you know, like for Fabio, like he's trying to figure this
- 6:51V4 out and he's probably the best example to make this bike
- 6:55go the fastest. So he's probably trying his
- 6:57hardest to figure the bike out and, you know, get get a fast
- 7:02time. So I think it's just a shakedown
- 7:05just to feel things out and, you know, before the actual, the,
- 7:12the real test comes in very before the season.
- 7:15Right, right, Reese, how much just, you know, time tests, time
- 7:20attack matters in these tests and situation and in a case like
- 7:23Yamaha as far as the V4, I know you guys are not testing a brand
- 7:27brand new engine, but I'm sure you you guys are trying
- 7:29something new. How much is the, the 1st testing
- 7:33session? How much does that matter for
- 7:35you guys? And, and, and what are your
- 7:36thoughts on GP with what they're doing or what they did over
- 7:39there for testing and stuff like that?
- 7:40Yamaha. But you know you can you can
- 7:42talk about all other brands except for Ducati.
- 7:48I mean, this test, I mean, it's pretty much just a winter test.
- 7:51I mean, it's pretty much like a shakedown test.
- 7:54This is trying some new things, see what new things is going to
- 7:56work, you know, so they can work, we can work on over the
- 7:58winter. You know why we have plenty of
- 8:00time and then like for the new guys coming in like over there
- 8:04in GP, it's like kind of get a feel for the bike.
- 8:06You kind of see what works best, what doesn't work or you just
- 8:10kind of just feel where you're at this kind of get your feet
- 8:13wet in the in the in the water. So that's pretty much it.
- 8:17It's the time attacks in here is not really that big.
- 8:20It's just like I said, it's just more of a shakedown.
- 8:23The time attacks will start coming when it starts getting
- 8:26into closer to the season and you know, getting more prepared
- 8:29into it just now to like TJ said, it's just more of a
- 8:33shakedown test. That's all it really is.
- 8:36Now, what do you thought, do you think that, you know, testing
- 8:39that like the first Test should happen a little bit later rather
- 8:42than the day after, a couple of days after you got you got the
- 8:45the award ceremony and then the day after, it's really like some
- 8:48of these guys may still be kind of hungover showing up.
- 8:53It could be, but no, I think it's kind of good.
- 8:55I think it's kind of good that it is a day afterwards after the
- 8:58wars. I mean, because you got the, I
- 9:00mean, first of all, you're renting a facility out, you
- 9:02know, God knows how much the facility costs to rent and the
- 9:04EMTs, everything else. But then you also have to
- 9:07realize that, you know, they they're flying all of their
- 9:10equipment over or bringing their equipment over or driving
- 9:13however far it is. They got to bring it, but
- 9:16they're bringing all their new equipment, all the new bikes
- 9:18that they're actually adding on. So it's time like while you're
- 9:21still kind of fresh, you just got off the track.
- 9:24It's kind of, you know, hey, let's try it before we take our
- 9:27long winter break and figure it out to see what's going on.
- 9:31Because when they come back from their winter break, everyone's
- 9:33kind of now it's time to get back into it and to get back on
- 9:37the field of things this way. It's still kind of everything,
- 9:40still kind of fresh in their mind.
- 9:42OK, OK, no doubt Louis for your thoughts on testing and and
- 9:46time. I've seen a lot of people post
- 9:48time of you know who these new guys are faster than and all
- 9:51that fun stuff. Is it just, you know, food for
- 9:54thought or just a click bait? You know is it is it where you
- 9:59know, you know you like, you know your brand and other brands
- 10:02are trying to work out deals and stuff in the background.
- 10:06What are your thoughts man? I mean, there's a lot of things
- 10:08that happened during testing, especially this particular test,
- 10:11the test right after the last event of the year.
- 10:15Obviously there's some new pieces that come out.
- 10:17But this isn't really like, like Reese said, this isn't really
- 10:20the test where all the new goodies show up.
- 10:24There might be some new goodies and everybody's got a different
- 10:27idea of what this test is for. You know, on the Yamaha side,
- 10:31you know, Top Rack wants to go out there and prove that he can
- 10:34ride this bike at a higher level.
- 10:36So he's going to be pushing a little bit more than somebody
- 10:38else. And since he has no point of
- 10:40reference, his point of reference is just how fast can I
- 10:43go on this motorcycle? Whereas somebody like Jack
- 10:46Miller, who on the time sheet showed up a little bit slower
- 10:49than Top Rack, He might already know what he needs to do in this
- 10:54time with this time with his new motor because he's already been
- 10:58on the bike with the motor and needs to see what the evolution
- 11:01of the motor is. So he's going out there and
- 11:02looking at something differently than someone else.
- 11:05So everybody has their own agenda for these, for this
- 11:09particular test, the next couple of tests are are going to be
- 11:15incrementally more important because they're going to be
- 11:17leading to the beginning of the season.
- 11:19And again, this is, I don't want to say practice, practice is
- 11:22super important, but this is practice.
- 11:24You know, the guy, the fastest guy that puts a time down in
- 11:27practice doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be able to
- 11:30apply that to a full length race or something else.
- 11:33He might put on a set of qualifying tires and go out
- 11:36there and see what's the fastest he can go.
- 11:38Or somebody else might just go out there and just want to see,
- 11:41you know, hey, how does this track with this weather
- 11:45condition, how many laps can get can I get out of a soft tire?
- 11:49How many taps can I get out of a medium tire?
- 11:51How can we change the power delivery to get more power with
- 11:54without eating up the tire? How can we do you know?
- 11:57So everybody's got a different plan and the people that are at
- 12:00the front at the end of this year should start next year more
- 12:04or less in the same position and aren't going to be as desperate
- 12:08to look for those big increases. They're going to look for
- 12:11incremental increases. So your Ducatis and your
- 12:13Aprilias are going to try to continue build off the success
- 12:16they had at the end of this year and carried on to next year.
- 12:19Ducati might have a little bit more work to do because now, you
- 12:22know, they've had a year of 1 rider having a lot of success
- 12:26and other riders not having as much success.
- 12:29And now Marquez, Alex Marquez is going to be on a factory
- 12:33supported bike. So that's going to change the
- 12:35dynamics there. And there's, you know, there's
- 12:37even some politics that we'll talk about later going on with
- 12:40the Grassini team and the factory Ducati team and how the
- 12:43VR46 team is maybe feeling a little left out because now
- 12:46they're not going to have possibly a full factory bike
- 12:50next year. It's like that reggae song
- 12:52rumors them spreading for real, Yeah.
- 12:54So, so, but it's still a good, it's still a good event for, you
- 12:59know, there was a couple of Moto 2 guys and even a Moto three guy
- 13:02that was allowed to go out there and ride the bike just as a
- 13:05reward for doing so good. And for those and for those guys
- 13:09that get that opportunity to go out there, one, they get to see
- 13:12this is possibly in my future. This is what I have to look
- 13:15forward to. And maybe it also is an idea of
- 13:18where the factory teams or other teams to see, hey, let's see how
- 13:21this 17 year old or 18 year old reacts in this situation.
- 13:25And is this someone we think maybe in the future we want to
- 13:28see here? It's a lot of things going on.
- 13:30You think you think Rossi was like via take, go out there and
- 13:34get the bike because mobility doesn't want this.
- 13:37I mean, they're, they're looking for riders, man.
- 13:39You know next year is going to be the craziest silly season
- 13:43because I think almost every single seat in the paddock is up
- 13:47for bids. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 13:51I think everyone is up next year.
- 13:52There's no one that has the next extension beyond next year, but
- 13:56maybe Bender because he signed that ridiculous deal way back
- 14:00when. That six year deal or whatever.
- 14:02I think that was a win for Bender, not not KTM.
- 14:05Well, it. Might be a win for Bender, but
- 14:07now with KTM finally being completely under this new Baja
- 14:11management group. Yeah, well that.
- 14:14Contract is as good as toilet paper.
- 14:16Yeah, let's talk about that and we'll talk about the rumors
- 14:18before we move into Motor America and what's happening
- 14:21there and all that fun stuff. But what are your thoughts on
- 14:25all you guys on I mean, I, I think all you, you, Reese and
- 14:28and TJ know about Baja coming in with KTM, right?
- 14:34Yeah, I heard about it. Yeah.
- 14:36All right. All right, let's talk about it,
- 14:37right. Yeah.
- 14:38You know, well, Lewis, Lewis in on, on on the details.
- 14:43Because I, I, I, you know, I know you delivered the pens for
- 14:45people to sign these contracts with.
- 14:47So you're in the room. A lot, a lot of big numbers
- 14:50here, man, a lot of big numbers. So Baja has officially taken
- 14:55control of KTM as an entity. They've changed the name of the
- 14:59company or that managing company to a different name.
- 15:02So even though the brand is still going to be KTM, it's now
- 15:04owned and managed under a different brand equity name.
- 15:08So it's not KTMKTM Motors, it's something completely different.
- 15:14One of the big thing that's going to happen in the next 6 to
- 15:188 months or year is any time a company absorbs another company,
- 15:23the first thing you do is you fire all the coaches and you get
- 15:25your own coaches, especially if you don't trust them.
- 15:28And if a lot of these coaches or a lot of these CEOSCMOSCOOS LED
- 15:33this company into this battle, financial ruin, you ain't going
- 15:37to keep them. So you're going to see a lot of
- 15:39heads rolling. You're going to see a lot of new
- 15:41people be putting into place, like over the next few months.
- 15:44I expect them to announce a new CMOA, new CEOA, new CEOCOO, and
- 15:51then how's that going to? How's that?
- 15:54Yeah, the entire C-Suite is getting cleaned out, new rugs
- 15:57coming in. But how's that going to affect
- 16:00every tier? One of the things that we're
- 16:02already hearing is that some of the manufacturing is going to be
- 16:06moving to India and other places where Baja already makes their
- 16:09cars to try to reduce the costs and so forth and so on, make it
- 16:14a little bit easier for them. Obviously, this is an Austrian
- 16:17company. A lot of people that have bought
- 16:19KTMS over the year bought it because it was built in Europe
- 16:24or European brand. You know, how is that going to
- 16:27impact quality? How's this going to impact
- 16:29supply chain? How are parts going to become
- 16:31available? You know, these are all
- 16:33questions that unfortunately it's going to take time for
- 16:37answer these to answer these. The realm we're interested in is
- 16:41racing what's going to happen to their team?
- 16:43And right now the rumors are that they might actually sell
- 16:47the licenses to two of the seats.
- 16:50So instead of having 4 KTMS out there, there might only be two
- 16:53KTMS out there in the next year to two years.
- 16:57Or they might be completely getting out of Moto GP unless
- 17:00they can find some really deep pockets that want to fund the
- 17:02program and keep it up and running.
- 17:04Because Baja, if you look at all the big manufacturers that deal
- 17:09in volume, they're not in Moto GP.
- 17:12There's no, you know, Kymco or Kim Kymco in Moto GPCF.
- 17:17Moto's trying to get there. You know they're trying to.
- 17:19CF Moto. They're in Moto 2 and Moto 3.
- 17:22Is a Chinese company that has a lot of Chinese backing and they
- 17:26have very big plans for that company.
- 17:28Of all the Chinese brands right now, CF Moto is considered their
- 17:33Honda, or they're Harley, let's put it that way.
- 17:37And even though, like, if you look at their bikes, it looks
- 17:39like they stole a little bit from a Ducati and a little bit
- 17:41from the Honda and a little bit from an Avia Gusta, they're
- 17:44still building really good bikes.
- 17:47And the quality is definitely good from what I hear from other
- 17:50parts of the world where they sell in huge volume.
- 17:53And now they're trying to penetrate the bigger markets,
- 17:55which is Europe and the US. Right.
- 17:58So do you think Baja may kind of see what CF Moto's doing or you
- 18:01just think they're going to kind of just, you know, look at their
- 18:04bottom line? And because you know, when most
- 18:08times when companies are bought and, and, and as publicized as
- 18:11KTM has been, you know, it's usually doesn't turn around
- 18:16until the company's all sold again, right?
- 18:18That the the the first buyers don't usually fix the problem.
- 18:22No, no, I would say that for the most part, except this is not an
- 18:27equity firm. This is actually a car
- 18:30manufacturer and a car manufacturer like when you know,
- 18:33when the VW Group bought Ducati, they didn't buy it to flip it.
- 18:37They bought it to build it up to a stronger company.
- 18:40And now you look where Ducati is at.
- 18:42So they were, they did it the right way.
- 18:44If this was a private equity firm, I would say, hey man, in
- 18:47about four years all these people are going to be gone
- 18:49again. But since this is an actual car
- 18:52company, I don't see that happening.
- 18:53I think they really are planning a long term strategy with KTM,
- 18:58but I don't think that that will be in Moto Gpi.
- 19:03Think they'll keep KTM in Moto 2 and Moto 3 and even Moto 2?
- 19:06Doesn't really make sense because the motor is not your
- 19:10motor. You build the frame and you
- 19:12build everything else, but you're stuck with whatever
- 19:14motor, the Triumph motor, or whatever motor is the
- 19:16homologated motor. Right.
- 19:18And, you know, and I know Reese is probably thinking this and so
- 19:20is TJ, but like, what about the Junior Cups and all these other
- 19:23places that KTM is so immersed in this, you know, feed a
- 19:26program or programs that they have for riders.
- 19:29Now, it's not just the main seats that are, you know, on the
- 19:33table. And, and I would agree with
- 19:36that, but if you think about their feeder program, their
- 19:38feeder program again it's small displacement bikes that they
- 19:42typically sell RC390's and so forth and so on, same as Moto 3
- 19:47bikes. So I would say for their feeder
- 19:49program and for all their series, they would make sense.
- 19:53But in Moto 2 it makes no sense because you don't get to use
- 19:56your own motor. And in Moto GP, the expense is
- 19:58so high that unless they can get somebody to come in and really
- 20:01cover so much of this cause. And this is, again, this is
- 20:05happening at the time when Tech 3 just got sold to the gentleman
- 20:09from Formula One, right? So he's going to come in with
- 20:13big, big deep pockets, a lot of sponsorship money behind him.
- 20:17So maybe he's him and his crew are the ones that kind of saved
- 20:20the KTM program. OK.
- 20:22Well, like a lot of questions asked, but not a lot of answers
- 20:25yet. We've got to have to wait and
- 20:26see. Well, let's see, Reese, you got
- 20:28any questions, TJ? And then we can kind of roll
- 20:31into the rumor mill because, you know, he doesn't have to stay
- 20:35with KTM, right? I'm pretty sure there's a closet
- 20:37in there somewhere for him to get out, to get out if they
- 20:40screw up. And right.
- 20:44Yeah, I don't really have anything on that one.
- 20:46I mean, he's he's answered it all.
- 20:49He answered that all for quick. Yeah.
- 20:52So. You sign as a writer, there's
- 20:56always out clause both for the manufacturer and for the rider.
- 21:00So if at any point there's a, let's say there's some clauses
- 21:03in Acosta's contract where KTM can't meet certain thresholds,
- 21:08he can get out of the contract and he can't be penalized.
- 21:11I mean, unless he has a complete idiot for a manager, which at
- 21:14that level there's not that many idiots that are managers.
- 21:17Most of the people know what they're doing, they'll have an
- 21:20out clause. So unless he can clearly show
- 21:23that KTM is not meeting the requirements of the contract,
- 21:27he'll be stuck in that contract. But if he can prove that they're
- 21:30not meeting certain thresholds, he could possibly get out of
- 21:34that contract. And either way, like next year
- 21:37is kind of his last year with them and he's going to be
- 21:40looking for your ride and it's going to be another factory.
- 21:43And, and you know, it's, it's, you know, it's not just the
- 21:46riders, it's not just the new owner of Tech 3.
- 21:49What about Red Bull? Red Red Bull is like Monster,
- 21:54which is like a lot of companies.
- 21:56I don't know, they, they just print money in the backroom
- 21:59because they sell a product for $3 that cost them $0.18 to make.
- 22:04So that's it. Their profit, their profited,
- 22:07their profited cost margin is through the roof.
- 22:09That's why they advertise and they're in everything because
- 22:12they are a promotional company that sells a drink that makes
- 22:15them a ton of money. They did get a little bit lucky
- 22:18buying that Formula One team, too.
- 22:20Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the price they got it at?
- 22:24But I don't think that they'll buy outright, buy a team because
- 22:27they still need to rely on a manufacturer to develop, to
- 22:30deliver bikes. You know, when they buy a
- 22:32Formula One team, they can go to Ferrari or they can go to
- 22:34McLaren or these companies and they can get the products they
- 22:38need and then they can build a team around these products.
- 22:41But in Moto GP, you're kind of stuck to the four or five
- 22:44manufacturers that are in GP. Right.
- 22:47Well, you know Honda might be looking for a new big sponsor
- 22:49besides Castro. Oil well, Honda's got a Repsol
- 22:52coming back next year. OK, breaking news.
- 22:55Breaking news. I.
- 22:58Got AI got a question about the the KTM aspect.
- 23:01So like you mentioned, like they probably will just
- 23:06hypothetically withdraw from Moto GP or at least take away 2
- 23:10bikes. So I know when Suzuki left, like
- 23:14they, they told Dorner that they like we'll withdraw and we'll
- 23:18pay the penalty and fine whatever.
- 23:20Like like is that going to be the case or it's like they like,
- 23:24do they sign a contract like that, that I do not know from
- 23:27how like these mobile GP manufacturers.
- 23:31So you you only pay a fine if you can't find another company
- 23:35to take your spots because they don't want 2 empty spots in the
- 23:39grid. So in Suzuki's case, they were
- 23:42going to have to pay a pretty big fine until they found
- 23:45somebody willing to buy their spots.
- 23:48And then they, you know, the the penalty went down significantly
- 23:52from what they would have gotten if they couldn't find somebody
- 23:54to absorb those two spots. And it's very easy to get 2
- 23:57spots sold in Moto GP because everybody that has some money
- 24:02does want to build a team. The biggest problem is finding a
- 24:05manufacturer that's willing to make you bikes, make you good
- 24:10bikes too. Not make you some some third
- 24:13tier shitty version of their best bike, but make you like a
- 24:16competent or sell you last year's bikes, sell you the
- 24:20technology, help you get up and running, things like that.
- 24:23It's not an easy endeavor to go from one manufacturer to another
- 24:27unless that manufacturer you're going to already has a
- 24:29structure. So if KTM leaves, those two
- 24:32spots would have to go to one of the manufacturers that are there
- 24:35now. And I don't think Yamaha wants
- 24:37to add more bikes. Honda, I don't know if they want
- 24:42to add more bikes. They should.
- 24:44They should. No, absolutely they should.
- 24:48Although I think the one manufacturer that would benefit
- 24:51from adding more bikes would be brilliant.
- 24:54If it really went from 4 bikes to six bikes, I think that would
- 24:58now put them on par one with Ducati because now they also
- 25:02have 6 bikes going against six bikes.
- 25:05Between those two companies they take up almost 50% of the grid,
- 25:0940 something percent of the grid.
- 25:10It will be all Italian and both of those bikes right now are the
- 25:15two top bikes. So you're going to get a lot of
- 25:18more interesting racing until the KTMS and the Hondas and
- 25:22Yamahas in the world catch up. And and so the rumor is that,
- 25:26you know, Rossi, may, you know, leave Ducati and jump to
- 25:30Aprilia. That is one of the rumors.
- 25:34I mean 2020. Yeah, is a a, a do you really
- 25:39buy that you think? I mean, obviously money talks,
- 25:41right. So when it comes down to it, but
- 25:43you know, is it is it such a big deal if well, it he he VR46 is
- 25:50getting a 26 bike. 1. Yeah, and so they both won and
- 25:54Grassini's getting one, right? So, so it's it's so there's no
- 25:58reason to be disgruntled from Rossi's perspective, is there?
- 26:04I'll let you guys answer this one.
- 26:07I mean, I mean it. Yeah, Go ahead, T.
- 26:10Oh, I know I'm being, I'm just speaking like who?
- 26:15Who? Like yeah, who's going to ride
- 26:17that bike, you know, is it? I mean, he needs another.
- 26:20He needs another ride. I feel like to represent him
- 26:23like someone else younger to come up to.
- 26:27Celestine Vietay or when these other young riders coming
- 26:30through the the the the VR46 Academy.
- 26:33I feel like Rossi gets what he wants anyway.
- 26:35I mean for him to get 2 new bikes that's like, I don't know.
- 26:40That'll be unheard of. I think I.
- 26:42Think Rossi wants his 2015 championship?
- 26:44He don't get what he wants. So I mean, but you know, I mean,
- 26:49I I think it's, I think it's good enough for him to just have
- 26:53126 bike and 25. But you know, Rossi is always in
- 26:59the something. Right.
- 27:01You know, Reese, you know, there's a lot of rumors in the
- 27:04Motor America which we'll jump into.
- 27:06So how much is this stuff is valid what we hear on on the on
- 27:11the social media streets? You see, the mouth is shut.
- 27:21I mean something you can't believe, something you can't
- 27:23believe. We'll say that, but sometimes
- 27:29the riders will will just slip out and and say some stuff and
- 27:33you'll be like shut up and just wait till it's on paper, you
- 27:36know, But it's it's, it normally comes from somewhere in that
- 27:40rider. Got you got you normally no
- 27:44doubt. I think it'll be cool.
- 27:46I mean, I mean, I think if Rossi was to go with Aprilia, the bike
- 27:50is doing fairly well. It's the it's the closest bike
- 27:53that can fight Ducati. It's an Italian brand.
- 27:56I, I don't know if Aprilia has enough money where Ducati has
- 28:00that money to develop a little bit faster, a little bit quicker
- 28:04and, and stuff like that, where Aprilia is still a niche brand
- 28:08and, and you know, who knows what 27 looks like, right?
- 28:12So because if they get, if they whoever comes out the gate on
- 28:15the wrong foot, you, you already know it's going to take them
- 28:17maybe a few seasons to catch up. I mean, do you have the money
- 28:21like Lambeau has? Well, one of the things that
- 28:25you're missing about the Ducati conversation is, you know, how
- 28:30how keen and how happy is Rossi knowing that Marquez is winning
- 28:34on a Ducati? How keen and how happier is he
- 28:37that the two Spaniards, that Grassini are doing better than
- 28:41his two Italians on Ducati's? And there's only one Italian
- 28:46left on the factory team, which is Pekko, and he might not be
- 28:49there going into 27. So this is another aspect that
- 28:52you're not kind of thinking about is, you know, you're
- 28:55talking about now not just Rossi, but Italians versus the
- 28:59Spaniards, both on Italian bikes and one Italian feeling like the
- 29:03Spaniards are getting better shit than he's getting.
- 29:07And you know, it's, it's petty like that, man.
- 29:10And. We don't know what Pekka is
- 29:13going back and telling Rossi. We don't know what Pekka is
- 29:15telling Rossi neither. That's one of your vRS 46 boys.
- 29:18Yeah. Listen, it's, it's it's like
- 29:19that scene in Snatch. You know, Boris, you're my
- 29:22brother. What do you want me to come
- 29:24shoot them for you? Some things they have to do on
- 29:26their own. You're you're absolutely right.
- 29:28And it must be tough for Rossi. And I, and I suspect, I mean,
- 29:31Rossi does a better job at it than Jordan because as we know,
- 29:34Jordan can't coach because he he'll just lace up and go out
- 29:38there. So, you know, and I think, you
- 29:41know, for Rossi, he must, you know, that there's a side room
- 29:44that wants to say, hey, it can't be done.
- 29:45It can't be done. You guys are not getting there.
- 29:47So I guess that has to be difficult for him.
- 29:50But I still Aprilia makes the most sense if if Ducati can't,
- 29:55can't, it seems to be meddling with the with the, you know, the
- 30:00Italian nationality. Unless unless Yamaha pulls
- 30:04something amazing out of their ass in 2026.
- 30:08Aprilia would make the most sense going into 27.
- 30:12Because Yamaha would make the most sense for Rossi only
- 30:15because of his history with the brand.
- 30:17And it kind of. But he's still an ambassador,
- 30:19too. Yeah, so it'd be kind of like a
- 30:21a come a homecoming to have VR46 back on Yamaha.
- 30:25It'll be a win for Yamaha. And for Rossi, if he went back
- 30:29and used Yamaha bikes with his team, that would be a.
- 30:33Lower case W though. Yeah, dude, But if as a
- 30:36marketing person, I'd be in the back just creaming the entire
- 30:39wall, if I could get my ambassador pain in the wall,
- 30:46man, because I got Rossi. You're absolutely right.
- 30:53They they would sell a lot of bikes.
- 30:55I mean, you know, no, no doubt that, you know, no one is
- 30:59selling more bikes than Rossi at the moment.
- 31:01I think, Mark, they kind of used Marquez to get there.
- 31:03But we shall see. Let's anything else about Moto
- 31:08GP before we move over to the side of the the country at the
- 31:10side of the world. That's good, that's good.
- 31:13That's good for. Them all right, let's let's
- 31:14let's talk about it so. They got enough money.
- 31:17Yeah, yeah, too much free, free publicity.
- 31:21Exactly, exactly. You have to stop putting them on
- 31:23notice. So let's talk more to America.
- 31:26Some seats moving around what I know about and hopefully we'll
- 31:29see what we can get out of Reese and and Lewis on who's who's
- 31:34coming. But looks like Cam Beaubier's on
- 31:36the red bike for next season. New testing.
- 31:41Well, new testing. Testing has to be done.
- 31:43But it's a new platform. So, you know, we'll start with
- 31:48Reese on this one. You know, last year you guys
- 31:50kind of had a idea who your challenger was going to be
- 31:54coming into 2025. Do you guys look at any of that
- 31:59stuff? Is it like, you know, you know,
- 32:00you hear football players and and basketball players got
- 32:03certain dates on the calendar circled and stuff because
- 32:06they're going to see certain people.
- 32:08Is it, is it certain brands, you, you, you start to, you
- 32:12know, put stickers on their car because you don't like them
- 32:14anymore for next year? I mean, not like that, but I
- 32:20mean, you always got to know who the challenger that's going to
- 32:22come into play. I mean, from what I hear, I
- 32:24think there's like 4 Ducati that's going to be on a grid
- 32:27down this year. So that's that's something big.
- 32:30I mean, you got Cam, you know he's always going to be a
- 32:35contender, especially if he wraps his head around that bike.
- 32:38So that's always going to be a contender there.
- 32:41You also have Matthew coming in, you know, to the Super bike.
- 32:45You know he's going to be a contender.
- 32:47I mean you got PJ, you know, you have Bobby still out there and
- 32:53Bobby's coming strong and you know, so I I think it's going to
- 32:58be a good year. I mean, we know who's coming so
- 33:02far. You still got the BMWs with Sean
- 33:06Dillon Kelly. So I mean it's going to be a
- 33:09good year. I think this I would say this
- 33:11year the Super bike, this is going to be the year the Super
- 33:13bikes versus like the smaller ones.
- 33:17Right. And you know, how much does you
- 33:20know, these riders moving around on different bikes make a
- 33:24difference? I mean, you know, Cam won last
- 33:26year on the BMW. He I don't want to say it's the
- 33:29same situation anyway. I guess it was the same
- 33:30situation as, oh, hey, Martine, you went on one bike, but you
- 33:34got to put that number plate on a different manufacturer all
- 33:36together. You know, there's still a
- 33:39learning curve. So how much how much do do you
- 33:42guys pay attention to that part of it?
- 33:43Like, OK, they're on a different bike.
- 33:44So you know, they got to play catch up where Bobby's been on
- 33:47the same bike now for a little bit as far as being on a Yamaha
- 33:51obviously is just one year on the factory.
- 33:55I mean, we, we pay attention to a little bit, but we're trying
- 33:57to pay attention to our own thing, you know, and get, get
- 33:59ourselves situated. I mean, that's where it's at.
- 34:02And you know me personally coming from, you know, the
- 34:05athletic background and the, the competition that I am, like I'm
- 34:08very competitive. I've always said, you know, that
- 34:12me, my beliefs is that Bobby's going to be the most dangerous
- 34:14one out there on the track. He's going to be the most
- 34:16dangerous 1. He was there to taste almost the
- 34:19champagne but didn't taste it. And he's going to be the most
- 34:24hungriest 1. You know, Cam's still going to
- 34:26be hungry. He's on a new bike to prove
- 34:28himself. You got the new guys that want
- 34:31to prove themselves, but still got that, as you want to call
- 34:34it, the learning curve. But you know, Bobby's on a bike
- 34:37that he knows. He's been on the bike.
- 34:38He knows what you know, the pressure's not on him.
- 34:42And if you read the the article that he did put out, he did say
- 34:44there was some pressure on him. But, you know, I think that's
- 34:47kind of kick the, you know, kick.
- 34:49He's coming back for a little bit of a little bit of glory,
- 34:53but. No, we needed to at least step
- 35:02our game up to to be ready and to to take the win.
- 35:07OK, listen, I'm looking forward to it.
- 35:09TJ, man, your, your, your guy there at the moment doesn't have
- 35:12a ride. You know how you feeling about
- 35:17that. And you know, what are your
- 35:18thoughts on what the grid is going to look like next year?
- 35:20Because you know it, it looked like it was last year.
- 35:25Last year it was stacked, but this year is even is even going
- 35:29to be more stacked because you know, you do have, I would say,
- 35:33you know, 9 to 10 riders. The Reese can correct me if I'm
- 35:36wrong, that could fight for it or even Lewis that could fight
- 35:39for a championship next year. So is it odd that Herron doesn't
- 35:44have a ride for next year and you know, this guy was fighting
- 35:47for the championship? I mean, is it like Olivier's
- 35:49kind of situation? What are your thoughts man?
- 35:55Yeah, You know, it's kind of funny that getting into
- 35:57motorcycles, a guy that I liked and sounds like the most hated
- 36:01out there, It's kind of, it's kind of strange not seeing him
- 36:06have a ride yet. I'm sure it's like a
- 36:09interference to his, you know, trying to get ready for the next
- 36:13season if he can get that ride going.
- 36:17But yeah, it's a little strange. I feel like he kind of went
- 36:19through this the year before such when he had to get all
- 36:23these sponsors and stuff like that.
- 36:24But yeah, it's a little strange and just sitting back and and
- 36:29and patiently waiting just to see some some news or some
- 36:32rumors. But I feel like it will all work
- 36:35out in the end. But we'll see.
- 36:39I mean, it'll be kind of interesting to, you know, not
- 36:41have been series after, you know, how competitive he is.
- 36:45But I know the insiders is like, you know, burning bridges
- 36:51different places, just like some Moto GP riders is you might just
- 36:55push your way out. So we'll see.
- 36:58It's kind of interesting. No, man, listen, the, the, the
- 37:01motorcycle politics is, is for real.
- 37:04You know, I, I, I think it's OK to, I'm not even going to say
- 37:08it, but but. You might go ahead and say it.
- 37:12You might just say it. You, you can get away with
- 37:15kissing someone's woman, but you can't be messing with the the
- 37:17bike or, or messing with the ride at all.
- 37:20People remember that. And and you know, it's like if
- 37:23you, if you screw one team over, it seems like the the whole
- 37:26paddock is, is against you. You know, as we look at some of
- 37:30these Moto GP riders like that can get rides or Moto 2 riders
- 37:34that can get rides in Moto GP for for politics.
- 37:38Louis, what are your thoughts? Man on well, Oh, TJ, you didn't
- 37:41answer. What do you how do you think you
- 37:44know the the season's going to look next year with with these
- 37:46guys coming in and coming back up?
- 37:50Yeah, just how I reset. I think, you know, Bobby Foley's
- 37:55just couldn't be in the front runner.
- 37:57He's just going to. I feel like he has something to
- 38:00prove. And I mean, it was just right
- 38:02there. It was, you know, the the
- 38:05championship is right there. So he he has something to prove.
- 38:07I feel like he's going to be a front runner and you know, it's
- 38:11going to be interesting seeing Bobier or Ducati.
- 38:16I feel like you'll adapt very fast.
- 38:19I mean, you know, just seeing what he did on the BMW.
- 38:23So it's going to be an interesting season.
- 38:26I'm looking forward to it. It's a couple of riders on
- 38:29different seats, so you know, but I think Bobby Fong is going
- 38:32to be looking forward to watching.
- 38:36Thank you. Hopefully you can finally take
- 38:38it home this year. No doubt Bobby Fong is Kobe
- 38:41Bryant in a 2008 season. You know, SO 2000.
- 38:48He had the fro, he had the fro. So you know, say you know 2009,
- 38:54you know, it might it was was Kobe J after losing to the
- 38:57Celtics in O 8. So next year might be his for
- 39:00sure. What are your thoughts, Lewis?
- 39:02I know you have a lot to say based on what I said, but what
- 39:05what what rumors can you say or or say they're not rumors?
- 39:10And also, what are your thoughts for next year?
- 39:16Can't say anything, man. I can say that for Super Bike,
- 39:21it's going to be an interesting year because like Reese said,
- 39:24there's a lot of talent in Super Bike and there's a lot of talent
- 39:27on good bikes. I think if you go through the
- 39:30paddock and you ask anybody, anybody, anybody in the paddock
- 39:34who's the odds on favorite every single year, it's always going
- 39:38to be Cambo BA. He's always going to be at the
- 39:40top of the pile. He, no matter what he's riding,
- 39:43whether it's BMW or Suzuki, a Yamaha, Ducati, he's always
- 39:49going to be that guy that everybody looks at as like the
- 39:51benchmark for the best racer out there.
- 39:55But then after him, I mean you've got a lot of guys that
- 39:58are hungry. You know, Bobby's obviously
- 40:01hungry. He learned a lot from last
- 40:02season. He showed that he has the pace
- 40:05to race at almost every circle, can be competitive.
- 40:08Whoever his team mates going to be is at least going to be on a
- 40:11competent bike. And if he's a halfway decent
- 40:14rider, he'll be in the top 10. After that, you know, you got
- 40:19Scholz and this is a guy that was already has already been on
- 40:23a Yamaha 1 and he's going back to a Yamaha 1 after his exile to
- 40:28Super Sport. And so he's going to come back
- 40:30with a giant chip on his shoulder and something to prove.
- 40:33And if everybody knows anything about him, the dude race is
- 40:36super hard. Some people would say it's on a
- 40:39borderline of dirty, but is there really anything dirty
- 40:42about, you know, taking a spot from somebody?
- 40:45Right. If if you could fit a credit
- 40:47card, you could fit a bike. Yeah, I, I, I need a court
- 40:53typist to read back the transcript.
- 40:56I mean, you, you throw dirt smooth, Lewis.
- 40:59It's real big. Slide it.
- 41:02Sprinkle right in there, but you know.
- 41:08Like cinnamon? Just a little bit, not too much.
- 41:12You can make butt on a bread taste real good with a little
- 41:15bit of cinnamon. And then you got the Honda guys,
- 41:20you know, Honda's going to have a full super bike team.
- 41:22You got the Orange Cat guys are going to have a full super bike
- 41:25team. You know, the BMW factory team.
- 41:28I mean, there's a lot of really, really good stuff.
- 41:31I mean, I hate to see stock 1000 going away, but at the same
- 41:34time, I kind of like to see stock 1000 going away because it
- 41:37felt like a poor man super bike. And the Super bike grid, you
- 41:41know, on some races was looking really anemic this past year.
- 41:46So let's combine these. Let's figure out a way to give
- 41:48the stock 1000 bikes a little bit of concessions to make them
- 41:52a little more competitive against the Super bikes, but
- 41:54keep the cost down for them. And and let's see what the show
- 41:58looks like. This.
- 41:58Yeah, my biggest thing is I don't want to see the same three
- 42:01dudes every single weekend racing for the top three spots.
- 42:05Right. Come on, man, that's fun.
- 42:08Sean Dillon Kelly, though, I got to say he's probably the next
- 42:11closest guy to Bobby, wouldn't you think?
- 42:13Is coming back from Moto GP paddock in Moto 2.
- 42:18He's not necessarily had the best luck coming back in the in
- 42:22the in the Moto America. You know he got he has to be
- 42:26brewing too, right? No, I think I think he's one of
- 42:30those top talents that we have in Moto America this year.
- 42:34Unfortunately, you know, this past year he was on Suzuki and
- 42:37you know, we just know that Suzuki is just not as
- 42:40competitive as we would like it to be as Suzuki fans.
- 42:45Me rest. I don't know who else is a
- 42:47Suzuki fan here. I think it's just me and the DJ,
- 42:51that's it. 50. Percent.
- 42:55Hey, 50% of the viewing audience wants Suzuki to do better,
- 42:58that's the thing. I'm a fan of Suzuki as well.
- 43:02I've always wanted one. I just haven't had the luck to
- 43:04be able to get the title in my hand.
- 43:06Something always go awry. But.
- 43:10He just wanted to be part of the Squid Game.
- 43:12That's, you know, the Squid rider, you know.
- 43:14They're good for beginners, that's all.
- 43:16They're great. The SV650 is the best clapped
- 43:19out piece of shit you can put on the track.
- 43:22Sure is. But you know, if you kind of get
- 43:27their stuff together, I mean, we've got Ducati that's
- 43:29competitive. We've got Yamaha that's
- 43:31competitive. We've got BMW out there that's
- 43:33competitive. You know, we can get Honda looks
- 43:36like it's going to be more competitive this year.
- 43:38I mean, we've got a great mix of manufacturers.
- 43:41Suzuki needs to, you know, make that next step that hopefully
- 43:44they make in the next 18 months. But as far as riders, all the
- 43:49riders and all the teams are strong.
- 43:50And Cameron Beauvier and then right behind him would be like
- 43:55on par would be Bobby, Sean Dillon and Matthew.
- 44:00And then below that would be your PJS and I don't know who
- 44:09else is down there, Gilliam only because like the Honda might not
- 44:14be that great, your JD's and and then from there kind of trickles
- 44:19and trickles down, but the top, top guy is Cambogbier and then
- 44:22after that is going to be your Bobby, your Sean and your
- 44:25Schultz. You gonna say heroin?
- 44:28I mean, I know you got a ride, man.
- 44:32He's going to be the top ride. You're watching from the stands.
- 44:34You don't have a ride. I, I had this conversation with
- 44:39somebody a few weeks ago because they were talking about how
- 44:43riders are changing. A lot of riders are changing
- 44:45from gear this year. A lot of guys from Revit are
- 44:48going here. A lot of guys from iPod start
- 44:50going there. A lot of guys from Dines are
- 44:51going there. And I explained to him, I said,
- 44:54look, sometimes you don't have an option but to change because
- 44:57the team you're going to tells you you have to wear this
- 45:00product. And as much as you might like
- 45:03the product you're in, I've watched a lot of races.
- 45:05I've never seen somebody run across the straight away and
- 45:09finishing first without a bike on good looking gear, but I've
- 45:12seen a lot of guys on really good bikes wearing shitty gear
- 45:16win races. So sometimes you got to take the
- 45:18shitty gear and get the good bike to go win.
- 45:21Hey listen I can quote snatch reference all all show.
- 45:25Now do another one, man. The turtle and the and the dog.
- 45:32The rabbit and the dog, you know, but before before we move
- 45:37on to what most of us do, which is club race and and can prepare
- 45:41for next season and our offseason as we try to get
- 45:44ready. You know, we talked about Suzuki
- 45:47just, you know, joking a little bit.
- 45:50But like, how come Suzuki hasn't figured out that even if you
- 45:55know, you, you heard Aries talk about, you know, squid riders
- 45:58and stuff like that, people still buy Suzuki's.
- 46:01Why wouldn't Suzuki invest in the culture a little bit?
- 46:05Because I think if they did a lot more Suzuki's would would, I
- 46:09mean more than what's on the streets already would be on the
- 46:11street. What are your thoughts?
- 46:12We'll start with TJ. Should Suzuki be doing more for
- 46:15for the motorcycle culture where we see Yamaha, even Honda,
- 46:20Ducati, even BMW doing these things?
- 46:23I mean, yeah, I mean Suzuki slowly, slowly is doing little
- 46:29things. I mean, a lot of people want to
- 46:31change up the engine and stuff like that.
- 46:33They're doing that for the new 2026.
- 46:35I think they. Want to use the whole bike up
- 46:37man? Yeah, I know, but I mean they're
- 46:40one of the only ones that has the 607 fifty and 1000.
- 46:44A lot of bikes can't, can't have all three.
- 46:48We in Suzuki got all, you know, those 3 CCS.
- 46:52So I mean they come out with the naked versions to kind of
- 46:57compete where, you know, they got the GS G SX7 or six and then
- 47:04the GS 10 yeah, the 7:50 and then the 1000 and then now they
- 47:10have the GSS 8. So I mean, it's not what people
- 47:14really want. I mean, it's just affordable and
- 47:18it's, I think it's a great bike, very comfortable and easy to
- 47:21learn on. I mean, like you said, a lot of
- 47:25people want to get the, the higher brands, higher class like
- 47:28Ducati, which, you know, requires a lot more attention.
- 47:33But I feel like Suzuki definitely needs to step it up.
- 47:37But I feel like they've been doing OK.
- 47:39I just hate how like when, when the new year comes out, it's
- 47:43kind of like the same look. I mean, as far as like the
- 47:47engine, stuff like that. Like I'm talking like I'm
- 47:51talking, I'm talking not just like the graphics, but like, you
- 47:54know, just certain certain things like the dash.
- 47:58Like, you know, like if you want to give me the same graphics,
- 48:00give me a little different setup on the dash or like different
- 48:03mirrors or something. Doesn't have to be like a total
- 48:06flip. Now we gonna give you all bold
- 48:09new graphics and bold new paint job.
- 48:11That's exactly we gonna give. You, what are your thoughts,
- 48:16Reese? Should they be doing more?
- 48:19I mean on one hand, you know their old their 10 year old bike
- 48:23still you know are close to some to to OK. 10 year old, I want to
- 48:30say like 20 year old, like a 20 year old boy.
- 48:32God damn is still running with a 2025 newer version so I want
- 48:37him. They're saying we still fast.
- 48:41But where? Should they, should they be in
- 48:43the culture a little bit more than they're doing?
- 48:46Yeah, you still fast to go in the shop because it still breaks
- 48:48down fast or fast to be stolen on the street.
- 48:54That's OK, you can steal another one.
- 48:56There's so many out there. Someone steal your Jackson.
- 49:05Go steal another Jackson. He'll steal.
- 49:06That's it. There's plenty of them out
- 49:09there. There's plenty left.
- 49:10But I mean, I think they got to do something.
- 49:13I mean, a lot of guys don't even know.
- 49:15It's like ever since like Cali in Suzuki, like split because
- 49:21Cali was helping them out and sharing parts and doing certain
- 49:23things way back when, but as soon as they, it seemed like
- 49:29Zuki just lost their way. They just can't figure it out
- 49:32and can't get back into anything.
- 49:33They just disappeared off the face of the earth and it's kind
- 49:36of just sad. But yeah, it's sad.
- 49:40So let's look at the numbers, All right?
- 49:44Suzuki has been able to increase their revenue year over year
- 49:48since 2002. They're selling more bikes, but
- 49:52they're not selling the bikes that you and I see.
- 49:55They're selling the bikes that are needed in the emerging
- 49:57markets like Latin America and India.
- 50:00So profitability wise, in 2024, they had a significant increase
- 50:04in their overall net profitability because they're
- 50:07selling so many bikes targeted to emerging markets like India,
- 50:12Latin America, South America and even Africa.
- 50:16Now we look at it and it's like, well, what about us?
- 50:20What about us? We don't buy that many sport
- 50:23bikes anyway. Come.
- 50:25On we don't. If you look at the overall
- 50:27amount, we don't bikes in the Usus is a big market in dollars
- 50:32because we buy in high dollar items, but we don't buy in
- 50:35volume. But you know, if if you look at
- 50:39the Suzuki among younger people or all age people, everybody
- 50:45talks about Suzuki. I mean, it is like, you know,
- 50:48talk about temple and shoes, right?
- 50:51Because it's a plague. Let's say.
- 50:53It's really like that young person.
- 50:55Let's say you're getting into motorcycling today and you go
- 50:59into want ads or you go on Facebook Marketplace looking for
- 51:02a used bike. You're going to scroll through
- 51:051500 Suzuki's within like 20 miles of you that are all for
- 51:11sale. So This is why it's in the
- 51:14culture, because there's so many.
- 51:15By I mean, remember from 2000 to 2010, Suzuki sold something like
- 51:2127,000,000 motorcycles. Oh wow.
- 51:26And, you know, this was their heyday of selling mainly in the
- 51:28US. the US was selling, you know, tons of Suzukis.
- 51:33And to this day, those bikes are out there.
- 51:34They might be leaking oil all over the place, but they're
- 51:37still out there. And people are still buying them
- 51:40and trading them. And they're great bikes for,
- 51:42again, a beginner rider, somebody new.
- 51:44They're analog in a digital age. They stood.
- 51:47They do need to catch up. And I think it's something that
- 51:51every couple of years the rumor starts going around, Suzuki's
- 51:54going to do something, Suzuki's going to do something.
- 51:57But what they did is they kind of said, look, we're a smaller
- 52:00manufacturer. We're not a Honda.
- 52:01We don't have the outlets to make cars.
- 52:04You know, you don't see Suzuki cars being sold in the US
- 52:07anymore because they just, they're not that big a company.
- 52:10Samurai. Samurai baby, that was the 90s.
- 52:14Go to the Samurai. You know he probably still has
- 52:19one in his garage. I do, I seen one recently and
- 52:23I'm like, I don't even know how that that's like the GSXR of
- 52:26Jeeps. It just won't be you like it.
- 52:43As a company, they've done the right thing.
- 52:45As a company, when did their emerging markets?
- 52:49At some point they have to look back at at least the US.
- 52:53European market is difficult to to penetrate for any brand
- 52:57because of the emission standards and all the
- 52:59regulations and everything else. But the US is definitely a place
- 53:03where they can see a lot of success if they brought the
- 53:06right products to the market. If they came up with a brand new
- 53:10updated GSXR 750, I don't think the 600 is even worth making
- 53:14anymore. Like get rid of it because the
- 53:167:50 is a 600 with a different boring stroke.
- 53:20So don't make 2 bikes, make one bike.
- 53:22Make that bike really confident. Give it the updated electronics
- 53:25that everybody expects from a sport bike.
- 53:28And then do the same exact thing to the GSXR 1000.
- 53:31Just adding in bold new graphics.
- 53:33After 17 years, it's starting to get a little longer.
- 53:36The tooth Man. Come on man.
- 53:38The only upside? No, I can't.
- 53:40I can't say this they. Changed the stock exhaust pipe
- 53:43though it's not that big anymore.
- 53:45Yeah but who keeps the stock exhaust anyway?
- 53:50Only plus side is I can I can sell my 2017 and still make as
- 53:55much money as when I bought it in 2017.
- 53:59That's right. The exhaust goes from a long
- 54:01dingling to a short one. But I can't say this.
- 54:05We do as an American, we do sell and the numbers were shown that
- 54:10we do sell the most one thousands out of any market.
- 54:13Yep, we're we do we? Can't ride for shit.
- 54:17We got no carpet. We love horsepower.
- 54:21Yeah, the ER CS it all day every day.
- 54:30So we can't say that we go ahead.
- 54:34Yep. No, you're good.
- 54:36OK that now yeah, we do love the horsepower bike.
- 54:39So I, I was talking to one of the guys I met at the, at the
- 54:42write up yesterday and meet up yesterday and he was telling me
- 54:46about some young kid who bought A at 6:36.
- 54:51And he was telling the kid like, you know, chill out, you know,
- 54:53just take it easy, slow. The kids like, no, I want to go
- 54:55fast and blah, blah, blah. And he's like, the the next day,
- 54:58the kid sends him a photo of his bike and he, he, you know, he
- 55:01crashed the bike it, it within the next, within 24 hours, you
- 55:06know, that kind of thing. So there are young people who
- 55:09definitely want to go fast and, and don't have and think they
- 55:13have the skill set, but don't have the skill set to, to
- 55:16manage, you know, a middle weight bike, much less 1000 CC
- 55:20bike. So you know I mean.
- 55:24The thing it was two things Was that on the recall?
- 55:28Was that on the recall that he crashed?
- 55:31Did he crashed at the recall test out there?
- 55:33Oh. No, no, no, no not 'cause the
- 55:34recall. Because Cali Cali's got a well.
- 55:37Cali does have a big recall on the air. 636 don't do not ride.
- 55:41Got you, huh? Yeah, they.
- 55:44Just got a mother. 1 They got a second recall.
- 55:47Yeah, it's a do not ride on there.
- 55:50Yeah, it's a do not ride. Wow.
- 55:53I had one guy blow a rod right through his motor.
- 55:55Yeah, there's a second one. Yeah.
- 55:58Two recalls on ZX6. Right now.
- 56:03I, I the first, the first one was on all of them, right?
- 56:05All of them. *** *** 25 models. I thought, yeah.
- 56:10Yeah, that's not, that's not, that's not good for Kawasaki to
- 56:12I mean, I, I probably, well, Aprilia had that a few years ago
- 56:17with the RS660 and stuff like that with their engines and they
- 56:19replaced a lot of engines. So I, I mean, I don't know if,
- 56:23you know, Aprilia may have a little bit more money than than
- 56:26Kawi to maybe go through and and deal with all that.
- 56:28But they survived. The RS660 survived.
- 56:31It's not that it's they have less sales so they only got to
- 56:34fix like 8 bikes. I know the guys that are
- 56:40previous, I can buzz their balls.
- 56:43That's that's that's what's up. So let's talk about offseason
- 56:46shenanigans, things that we like to do in the offseason.
- 56:51Reese doesn't have an offseason. But if you are a Trump rider,
- 56:54Reese, you know, club rider, eraser, you know, what would you
- 56:59be doing right now for your offseason prep for next season?
- 57:03I know it's not going to be buying a Suzuki.
- 57:08No, because it might blow up, leak oil, But probably I was
- 57:12trying to train and trying to just get my body right, get in
- 57:16shape, do a lot of track day riding, try to hit the South and
- 57:19where it's warm and then go ride.
- 57:22You know, that's probably about it at the Jennings.
- 57:24At least it's warm day. So really no, no time off you
- 57:28just you just gone, gone, gone to the track because.
- 57:35Like, why take time off? If I want to win, I want to.
- 57:38I want to be better than the next guy.
- 57:40That's it. I want to be better than him
- 57:42while while I'm sleeping. Somebody's out there practicing
- 57:45all. Right, All right, what are your
- 57:47thoughts, TJ on what Reese is saying?
- 57:49We're going to put Reese on the spot a little bit.
- 57:51And Lewis, because I mean, you know, you got to you got to
- 57:53service suspension. I mean, you know, you, you could
- 57:56probably do it already. So you know, you can you can
- 57:58probably get your bike prepped in a weekend.
- 58:01There are a lot of people waiting to get their bike in and
- 58:04to see somebody. What are your thoughts, TJ on on
- 58:07offseason prepping? What are you doing to get ready
- 58:09for next season? You coming down this way to go
- 58:11to Jennings? You know, I'm thinking about it,
- 58:15I'm thinking about it. I like, you know, warm places,
- 58:18but I like I like where Reese's head is that you know, but we
- 58:23got different jobs and he does that for, you know, like, you
- 58:28know, gets real contingency and all that good stuff.
- 58:31So like he can, you know, really focus, but no, that mentalities
- 58:34you want to if you do something you love, you definitely got to
- 58:36go hard and you can't just do it when when the action is you got
- 58:41to put the work in an offseason. So this is the perfect time to
- 58:46get everything together for me starting in 2020.
- 58:50Now. I know like you got to start now
- 58:52because time passes so fast and and once it's really time to get
- 58:57the bike going, like you'll be scrambling around.
- 59:00So it's good to get everything in order that you typically use
- 59:05and all the parts that you need, you need to get ordered them
- 59:08now. Get the oil changes and all the
- 59:11flush is done now. So when it when you can after
- 59:15the new year, just get ready to get smooth sand, but definitely
- 59:19getting in shape and all that good stuff, so.
- 59:23Right, if you see like Reese doesn't have to go get snow
- 59:25removal jobs like us TJ to be able to pay off this previous
- 59:30season. We just completed he.
- 59:32He just, he's high in that situation.
- 59:37Yeah, I wish. Six weeks and then I can get
- 59:41tires. Exactly.
- 59:43I got to work. I still got to work.
- 59:44I got to pay off bills. I got it.
- 59:46A wife at home that eats up every bill I can do.
- 59:49I'm like, Jesus Christ, I got that funding.
- 59:53I still got to take care of man. That's a capital of W right
- 59:58there. Exactly.
- 1:00:02What are your thoughts, Louis, on prepping in the offseason and
- 1:00:05and you know, are you somewhere in the middle for advice?
- 1:00:09Because I, I know you got your Suzuki and you're just looking
- 1:00:11to sell it. And I don't think you're coming
- 1:00:13to the track, although you did say you're going to bring the R6
- 1:00:16down to Homestead in in. January No, I'm not selling the
- 1:00:19Suzuki ever. Man, that that thing is, I'm
- 1:00:22going to get a double wide casket and make sure they bury
- 1:00:24you with me. Well, the first thing you got to
- 1:00:28do. It don't work now as it is.
- 1:00:30You got to go out there, you got to find a 0 interest credit card
- 1:00:33for 18 months so you can take all the credit card bills that
- 1:00:36you accrued during the racing season and move them over to a
- 1:00:39zero interest long term so you can pay it off and not paying
- 1:00:44interest over the 18 months. Clear up your first credit card
- 1:00:46because now you're going to fill that credit card with all the
- 1:00:48stuff for this coming season and then you accrue yourself into
- 1:00:52debt for life as a motor. That's the first thing you got
- 1:00:57to do is get your finances right so you can fuck them up because
- 1:01:01that's what we're doing. That's what this is all about.
- 1:01:03How deep in debt can I get in this sport?
- 1:01:07Then after that you got to look at your bike, and you got to
- 1:01:10think about everything on your bike that can go wrong and kill
- 1:01:12you. And don't be cheap when you're
- 1:01:15fixing it. Don't buy shit off TMU.
- 1:01:18Don't buy things on Amazon just because they look cheap, because
- 1:01:21cheap now means expensive later. Check your chain.
- 1:01:28One thing that nobody does which blows my mind is change your
- 1:01:31brake fluid out. Brake fluid absorbs moisture.
- 1:01:34The more moisture it absorbs the less it works and over time you
- 1:01:38get a lot of brake fade and a lot of brake issues.
- 1:01:40You should really be changing your brake fluid out like twice
- 1:01:42a year. I mean most racers will change
- 1:01:45the brake fluid out almost every single event because you don't
- 1:01:50want it to absorb moisture and cause brake fade or or or lever
- 1:01:56lever feel. So change your brake fluid out
- 1:01:59if you can. Most people don't know it just
- 1:02:03shocks have oil in them just like all oil that shit goes bad.
- 1:02:08Like there's dudes right now right now on a 2002 GSXR 1000
- 1:02:12stuff the same oil from 2002 in that front end and don't
- 1:02:17understand why that thing is a Pogo stick in the front.
- 1:02:21Get your fork taken. From experience y'all.
- 1:02:24No, I'm speaking from. I change this stuff.
- 1:02:26I don't wait until my fork oil. With like.
- 1:02:29Mozzola inconsistency as Crisco. Like I change it when I need to
- 1:02:35change it with the right weight and make sure it's done
- 1:02:37correctly and put it back together.
- 1:02:39So take your forks out, take it to a good shop that can change
- 1:02:42the oil for you. You don't have to take the whole
- 1:02:44bike. If you got the ability, do it
- 1:02:46yourself. Take the rear shock out, have
- 1:02:48the oil, change the rear shock. Some of the shocks have oil and
- 1:02:51they have gas cartridges. Get those serviced.
- 1:02:54These are little things that nobody ever does.
- 1:02:57And I'm telling you, it will change the ride of your bike.
- 1:03:00It'll make it feel better. Check your sprockets.
- 1:03:04If you don't see pointy teeth, change your sprocket.
- 1:03:11It's round. That's not a good thing.
- 1:03:15And when you change your sprocket, change a chain, get a
- 1:03:18good quality chain, get something with like an X ring, a
- 1:03:21seal so you don't have to spray it as much or you don't have to
- 1:03:23maintain it as much. All these little things.
- 1:03:26Check the bearings. If you got the ability to take
- 1:03:29off the front of your bike, grease your, your, your head to
- 1:03:31bearings, check the bearings on your wheels like this.
- 1:03:35I got a list of when I used to do this as a regular thing of
- 1:03:40all the things that I would go through and I would keep a
- 1:03:43schedule and I make sure that I stay on the schedule because the
- 1:03:45last thing you want to do is go into turn 1:00, grab the front
- 1:03:48brake, your shitty ass fork or compresses completely.
- 1:03:52Your brakes fade like crap because you don't have good
- 1:03:54brake oil and then you're going into turn one in 180 miles an
- 1:03:58hour thinking about, man, if I just spent $30 on oil I wouldn't
- 1:04:02be about to hit this God damn air fence.
- 1:04:06I got to say, Lewis, man, it is pretty in depth.
- 1:04:10But first, I'm not going to have no half the things that you just
- 1:04:15said. Let's go back to brakes.
- 1:04:19Brakes. The liquid in your brake.
- 1:04:24If you look at that clear plastic and it's black, that
- 1:04:28shit is. Wrong, Yeah.
- 1:04:30Right to It doesn't come in black.
- 1:04:32That's oil. You will not be teaching first
- 1:04:38rider classes, everybody. Be like, Nah, Nah, this is too
- 1:04:42difficult for me. I quit.
- 1:04:44I have to go back. Listen, when he taught, he tried
- 1:04:47to teach Nesbo and we was all in there.
- 1:04:49Everybody was looking at him with the kind of the crooked
- 1:04:51eye, like what the fuck are you talking about?
- 1:04:54Hit the brake while I'm turning. I got a trail brake.
- 1:04:59What's trail brake? Visual things.
- 1:05:04Look at the little plastic container on your handlebar
- 1:05:07that's connected to your brake. If it's black, take that to a
- 1:05:12shop and get that shit changed. No, I listen, I, I agree with
- 1:05:16you on everything you just said and you guys just said, I think,
- 1:05:19you know, the biggest thing for new riders is education because
- 1:05:24you don't like, there's so much that you don't know that you
- 1:05:27should be doing. You don't know that you should
- 1:05:29be changing oils and anything much like, you know, the oil in
- 1:05:32the engine, which should be obvious, but some people don't
- 1:05:35even don't even do that. I mean, so it is really, you
- 1:05:38know, again, the credit card parts and stuff like that.
- 1:05:41Yet definitely racing is expensive.
- 1:05:43So whatever you got to do to get get prepared financially for the
- 1:05:47next season is important. But you know, education is the
- 1:05:50biggest thing If you're, you know, if, if you're like, I
- 1:05:55mean, I, I can wrench and I do wrench, but you know, I don't
- 1:05:57know what I'm doing and I hate to.
- 1:06:00Can I do something and Jack it up?
- 1:06:02I tell people don't be. Don't be scared of working on
- 1:06:05your bike within your comfort zone.
- 1:06:09If there's something you're not comfortable working on, don't
- 1:06:11work on it. Because again, a motorcycle, you
- 1:06:15only got 2 wheels, you got limited amount of parts that
- 1:06:18keep you up and keep you safe. If you don't feel comfortable
- 1:06:22doing something, don't do it. Take to a shot, pay the money to
- 1:06:25get it done right. If you're someone that's even
- 1:06:28slightly mechanically inclined and you feel comfortable in
- 1:06:31trying something, try it. And the best case scenario is
- 1:06:35you got a great resource that we didn't have back then.
- 1:06:38Back then, it was all bro science.
- 1:06:41Nah, man. This is how you do it.
- 1:06:43And then you do it that way you find out that's not the way
- 1:06:45you're supposed to do it. Everybody was doing it wrong.
- 1:06:48But now we've got YouTube, you can go on YouTube and they would
- 1:06:52teach you how to do almost every single thing.
- 1:06:54If you go in there and hey, how do I bleed the front brake
- 1:06:57master on my bike? Somebody will have a really
- 1:07:00detailed YouTube and a high quality, well made produced
- 1:07:04YouTube video on how to change the the brake fluid on your
- 1:07:08master cylinder, how to bleed it, how to make sure that you
- 1:07:12don't spill any of that brake fluid on your precious paint
- 1:07:15because brake fluid is like acid that will.
- 1:07:18Eat right through that shit. So you know how to do these
- 1:07:22things, how to change your front wheel.
- 1:07:24Don't start with your back wheel because there's a lot of moving
- 1:07:27parts back there. Start with your front wheel, get
- 1:07:29comfortable, take your front wheel off and understand how the
- 1:07:34bearings and the spacers work and things like that and they'll
- 1:07:37have one for your specific bike. I got a 1991 CBR 600F3 front
- 1:07:43wheel change. YouTube 18 videos will show up.
- 1:07:47Yeah, you know, you mentioned spaces and bearings.
- 1:07:52I've ridden on a track with no spaces in my KTM because I
- 1:07:54didn't know it was missing. And you know, I'm like.
- 1:07:57That must have. That must have made a real
- 1:07:59interesting sound. You hit the brake and you'll see
- 1:08:05your front wheel move from left to right.
- 1:08:06I'm like that doesn't look normal.
- 1:08:11I'll be honest with you, I was in the pit at Daytona during the
- 1:08:16Daytona, I think it was two years ago and they had the wheel
- 1:08:20set up on a wheel tree and they had the spacers already on the
- 1:08:23wheel on the wheel tree. They grabbed the wheel off, they
- 1:08:27put it on this rider's bike and they were like oh that was a
- 1:08:30super fast and they turned back at the wheel tree and there's a
- 1:08:32spacer on the wheel tree and this dude went and did 3 laps
- 1:08:38with no spacer. When he came in, that wheel was
- 1:08:41fucked up and it actually cost him the race because he had to
- 1:08:48pit a second time that wasn't scheduled just to put a spacer
- 1:08:52in. In the meantime, they had to
- 1:08:54change the tire from the tire they took off to a new tire, put
- 1:08:58it on a tire warmer, and you only had three laps to do this.
- 1:09:02So when he got back out there and his new tire was barely even
- 1:09:05warm because he didn't have time to heat up and it's caused to do
- 1:09:08the race so. Yeah, you got to keep your eye
- 1:09:12on everything. I think like I said, education
- 1:09:15is the best part of it all because you have to know the
- 1:09:18language, you have to know what you need to service, you have to
- 1:09:21know when you need to service. You know, we've always mentioned
- 1:09:24like, you know, reading the real rule books of different race
- 1:09:28clubs and stuff like that. So you know, you know what, what
- 1:09:31races you can get your bike in. You know what, what are the
- 1:09:34rules as far as specs? You know what can you put on a
- 1:09:37bike? Because some places you can't
- 1:09:38change your master cylinder. That's some bullshit ass.
- 1:09:41That's because they don't want Suzuki's racing there.
- 1:09:44And I mean, I could back up Lewis and what he said on one
- 1:09:47thing when he was saying by changing that chain, you know,
- 1:09:52sometimes you don't even have to change it.
- 1:09:54Clean it. A clean chain will save you some
- 1:09:57money, but it'll actually keep your rings moist.
- 1:10:01And then when they actually go to clean your damn chain, don't
- 1:10:04just clean the chain by yourself.
- 1:10:07Clean your front sprocket the hell out.
- 1:10:10Like you get so much gunk and crap up in there and it will
- 1:10:14actually affect your performance.
- 1:10:17Clean it out. Just take some brake cleaner and
- 1:10:19spray it and just cleaning the hell out.
- 1:10:21Let's brake cleaner, man. Come on.
- 1:10:23What are you? What's that?
- 1:10:25Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that. We're that we're a rule where
- 1:10:28you can't change the front master cylinder because anybody
- 1:10:31who's ever owned a Suzuki knows that the Nissan master cylinder
- 1:10:35that come with Suzuki's ain't worth the metal that they
- 1:10:38printed on. Well, that's what Suzuki is.
- 1:10:41You know Suzuki's not worth the metal was printed.
- 1:10:43On yeah, but everybody else using Nissan master cylinders,
- 1:10:46nobody else has the recalls and problems that Suzuki has.
- 1:10:49Like Suzuki went to Nissan and was like, yo, give us you what's
- 1:10:52your cheapest master cylinder? What's 4 levels below that one?
- 1:10:57That's the one we want. Bet that saves US $0.18.
- 1:11:02That's the one we want man, because we selling, we selling a
- 1:11:05million of these. So 18 cents adds up when it's a
- 1:11:07million. Red Bull.
- 1:11:14Oh my. God.
- 1:11:16OK, so we, we got, we got education, we got working out,
- 1:11:20we got servicing bikes, we got getting the finances in order,
- 1:11:26you know trailer prep, right? If you how you going to get your
- 1:11:29bike to and from, you know, the racetrack, If you were in
- 1:11:34Europe, you can just ride your bike and go do your track there
- 1:11:37and ride back. I don't know where you put your
- 1:11:38seat. I don't know where you put your
- 1:11:39water, your food and all this other stuff that you need at the
- 1:11:41racetrack. But I guess it rains all the
- 1:11:43time over in England, so you just got to hold your head up.
- 1:11:47You know what I give? I give so many props to guys
- 1:11:50that ride to the track and then go on the track with the bike
- 1:11:53they just rode to because that's a level of confidence that I
- 1:11:57don't have. What happens when I Chuck my
- 1:12:02shit in turn 5? Do I call Uber XL and be like yo
- 1:12:10just make sure you got a lot? Of energy too.
- 1:12:18You know you can give the guy your home address on the crash
- 1:12:27truck when they say why should you drop it off?
- 1:12:30Just leave it in that corner. Just say that stolen.
- 1:12:33I don't know what happened to my bike.
- 1:12:36Forget about. It, you know, it's it's.
- 1:12:40I'm done. Yeah, I think if you're close to
- 1:12:43the track, I think it's practical.
- 1:12:45But again, you're absolutely right.
- 1:12:46If you Chuck it down the road or I mean, granted, if you get
- 1:12:49anything happened to the track, I mean you, you know, you stop
- 1:12:51to get back from the track. So there's there's, I mean,
- 1:12:53regardless of transport, whether it's a car or a bike, but yeah,
- 1:12:58how comfortable can that be? I mean, you're, you're going on
- 1:13:00with street tires, St. Leathers.
- 1:13:03I mean, you know, you might be able to get away bring the
- 1:13:05backpack of of stuff. Yeah, I mean that's that's a guy
- 1:13:10in like the beginner group or something like that.
- 1:13:12It's not somebody that is going to have like a more serious
- 1:13:16track day or is really going to try to push their skill level
- 1:13:21and try to learn something unique.
- 1:13:23It's somebody that just wants to go out and ride, not worry about
- 1:13:26cars, not worry about traffic lights.
- 1:13:28Right, do do do half a sessions, 3 laps per session kind of
- 1:13:31thing. Yeah, you know to.
- 1:13:33That guy gets T boned in the back and then ass pass.
- 1:13:37Go to the go to the fuel pump at the track and pay $10 a gallon
- 1:13:41to to put because you don't even have a gas can.
- 1:13:45Like how are you coming to the track?
- 1:13:47Man, all right, so maybe not, maybe not riding your bike to
- 1:13:54the track for your first track day event, but how you know,
- 1:13:57like you know, talk about some of the prep stuff that you guys
- 1:14:00do, you know, you know, trailers and and whatnot.
- 1:14:03What do we need when we go to the trap besides the bike, a
- 1:14:06smile and some money. I mean I can I can start the
- 1:14:09simple way so me you know I don't have a enclosed trailer.
- 1:14:15So when I first got into it I really needed to find a way
- 1:14:20instead of just loading on the back of my pickup truck like how
- 1:14:22the hell I get this bike to the track.
- 1:14:24So end up investing in an open trailer 5 by 8 nice small one
- 1:14:29put some pressurized wood on it all the bolts that did all that
- 1:14:33stuff and two wheel trucks and eventually tried to change it to
- 1:14:37some pit bulls. But just throw them on there and
- 1:14:41comfortably strap them down and that's pretty much how I can get
- 1:14:44there. And it makes it so much easier
- 1:14:47now that I don't even typically need any help where I can just
- 1:14:52roll them up by myself and just strap it and go before the
- 1:14:55pickup truck. You know you always got to ask
- 1:14:57that helping hand or try to think you can manage it.
- 1:15:01Try to be boss and hope you don't drop your bike but.
- 1:15:04You know how many times I almost dropped my my my race bikes
- 1:15:08trying to load in the back of a pickup when I first started
- 1:15:10pushing bikes around? Yeah, man, so that gets old
- 1:15:14really quickly. I.
- 1:15:15Just want to embarrass myself. I'm like you got to save this.
- 1:15:18You got to pick this bike up. I don't know how you going to
- 1:15:19get it back up now, but you got to get it up.
- 1:15:23And it don't even matter like you show up to the racetrack and
- 1:15:25everyone got their RV's and campers and showing up all
- 1:15:29different ways, but just got to get there, you know, So, you
- 1:15:33know, I got the the open chair list still works.
- 1:15:35You know when it rains, the vice might get wet, but hey, still
- 1:15:40can get there and bring all your tools where you can clean it up,
- 1:15:43gas cans and all, you know where you can refuel all that good
- 1:15:47stuff. So.
- 1:15:48Right, Yeah, my my first track day, I didn't even bring tools.
- 1:15:52It's just like, oh, I guess I need a toolbox.
- 1:15:56They know my first track day did that.
- 1:15:59Yeah, based on on on you know, getting to the track and and
- 1:16:03prepping. I mean, you know, I I have a
- 1:16:05similar story. I was I was using U-Haul first
- 1:16:09to to trailer my my bike up after I realized I'm not going
- 1:16:13to load in the back of a pickup anymore because it's not for me.
- 1:16:16I mean my. My first track day, you know, I
- 1:16:18didn't have all that. I loaded in the back of a pickup
- 1:16:20truck and kind of just got there.
- 1:16:22You know, I didn't know nothing about, you know, having tire
- 1:16:26warmers and generators and, you know, actual food.
- 1:16:29I was the one that didn't have food.
- 1:16:31I had to go leave out the track to go get food, then come back
- 1:16:34and everything else. So, but you know, I mean,
- 1:16:37there's, there's things that you need, you need to, you know, you
- 1:16:40want tunnel off here, you know. Yeah, we're we're we're we're
- 1:16:52we're losing you a little bit your.
- 1:16:53Gas can I said at least have a rear stand, you know, a gas can,
- 1:17:00a tent over your head and a chair to sit in because your ass
- 1:17:04is going to be tired. You're going to be right at a
- 1:17:06couple of laps. You know a lot of people don't
- 1:17:09understand like it's it's tiring keeping your eyes open and focus
- 1:17:13that long. You know, it's, it's, it's a
- 1:17:16wear and tear, but you know, just your basic stuff, your
- 1:17:20basic stuff will get you a long way more than what you need.
- 1:17:24And bring some food and some water.
- 1:17:26Yeah, I will say, yeah, I will say that's the biggest thing,
- 1:17:30Yeah. In the bike, not knowing how
- 1:17:32tired I was going to be. I didn't realize how tired I was
- 1:17:35a little going to be. You know, it's like, you know,
- 1:17:40you're going, you're not in off at like 7:45.
- 1:17:43You know, it's kind of, it's just like it really does take a
- 1:17:46lot out of you, especially if you haven't been to a track and
- 1:17:49know that you have to work out, not like you're training for a
- 1:17:53marathon, but at least a half 1/2 marathon to get through a
- 1:17:57weekend and still walk upright when you're done.
- 1:18:01What do you want to add to that? Louis getting to the track and
- 1:18:03and being prepared and all that fun stuff.
- 1:18:06Same thing again. I mean it's it's depends on the
- 1:18:09person and where they're at in the track curve.
- 1:18:12If they're just starting, look at a very simple solution.
- 1:18:16The good thing is with most track organizations when you
- 1:18:19sign up for them, they usually have forums.
- 1:18:22You can go on the forums, you can ask people there.
- 1:18:24Sometimes you can even find somebody that's going there that
- 1:18:27can bring the bike with you. You can go the simple route and
- 1:18:31just rent a trailer from U-Haul if you have a way to tow it.
- 1:18:34If you don't have a way to tow it, you can always rent a pickup
- 1:18:37truck and get some ramps at at a Harbor Freight.
- 1:18:42It's not going to put you back a lot of money.
- 1:18:44Use that to get on and off. Like keep it simple, don't over
- 1:18:47expend. Initially when I first started
- 1:18:50going to the track, you know, everybody had open landscaping
- 1:18:53trailers. If you showed up with an
- 1:18:54enclosed trailer, like yo, you was a bowler, you got an
- 1:18:57enclosed trailer. Everybody else's bike is wet and
- 1:19:00full of shit that we caught along the way, but yours is dry.
- 1:19:04Like now you got people showing up in, you know, $500,000 mobile
- 1:19:10homes that are pulling, you know, full mobile, you know, toy
- 1:19:14haulers. It's like damn, you know, so
- 1:19:17just, you know, stay in your budget.
- 1:19:19Don't go too crazy initially, even with your gear.
- 1:19:22You can go on a lot of these forums, you can buy a suit used
- 1:19:25for like 5-6 hundred bucks. Don't go buy a brand new top of
- 1:19:29the line suit day one. Because again, you have to see
- 1:19:31if this is something you're going to enjoy.
- 1:19:33If it's something you're going to enjoy, then you have to
- 1:19:36again, look at your own personal finances, see what you can do,
- 1:19:39see what you couldn't afford. Make sure that it's within your
- 1:19:42budget because if you blow your budget too fast, then it's going
- 1:19:46to discourage you from being in the sport because you're going
- 1:19:48to be like, oh, look how much money I spent.
- 1:19:50Like it's got to be incremental. You can't just dump it all at
- 1:19:53once. And then, you know, again, as
- 1:19:57you grow within the track mindset and the track lifestyle,
- 1:20:02then you'll see that you'll start to about, well, you know
- 1:20:04what, I want to, I want a better trailer.
- 1:20:06I'm going to get an enclosed trailer.
- 1:20:07Oh, well, now that I have an enclosed trailer, you know,
- 1:20:09maybe I want a toy hauler because I want to bring my
- 1:20:11family with me. I want a place to stay or maybe
- 1:20:14I want this. And as you grow, then your needs
- 1:20:16will change along the way. Like right now, you know, I'm
- 1:20:19going to do a project where I just bought a trailer today.
- 1:20:22It's a blank canvas. I haven't had my own trailer in
- 1:20:26years, so I'm going to start from scratch again and kind of
- 1:20:29do everything that I know I kind of need.
- 1:20:31So I'm going to have some outlets put in it.
- 1:20:33I'm going to have a offshore connection, so if I go to a
- 1:20:36track, I can plug into the circuit at the track and power
- 1:20:40the outlets inside my trailer. Power a fan, power this, power
- 1:20:44that. Coat the floor because most
- 1:20:47trailers come with unfinished floors, so you have to coat them
- 1:20:50because you're a bike leak gas or you leak oil.
- 1:20:52You can damage the floor and you don't want to damage the floor.
- 1:20:55So these are all things that I'm going to do because I've gone
- 1:20:59through the process. I know what I need.
- 1:21:01But again, as you grow in the sport, slowly, incrementally
- 1:21:05grow what you want to do. And you'll see as you go to the
- 1:21:08track, you'll see people with trailers and you'll peek inside
- 1:21:11their trailer and see their setup.
- 1:21:12You'll see their Pitbull restraints.
- 1:21:14And you were like, oh, what are those?
- 1:21:16Oh, well, this is a way to hold your bike without blowing out
- 1:21:18your force because you over torque the front end with
- 1:21:20straps. And you'd be like, oh, that's
- 1:21:24why my forks always leaking. Yeah, because that ratchet is
- 1:21:27not to keep ratcheting it to hear that pop of your seals.
- 1:21:30It's just to hold it in place. Yeah, you're absolutely right
- 1:21:36there. I mean, you know, stay in your
- 1:21:37budget for sure and and build up as you get as you get into the
- 1:21:42sports more. Before we get out of here, one
- 1:21:45last thing I got to just a thoughts on.
- 1:21:48You know, I went to a meet up like I mentioned yesterday and
- 1:21:51we were, we were talking and all the guys were talking.
- 1:21:55I kind of always like fall back and just, you know, I'm not
- 1:21:58quick to run my mouth sort of thing.
- 1:22:00And I heard one of the guys was talking about I don't go to
- 1:22:02track days. There's just too much money.
- 1:22:04You know, it's like $1000 to go. And, you know, it was one of
- 1:22:09those things like, well, it can be $1000, but it could also be,
- 1:22:14you know, $300 or $150.00. It all depends.
- 1:22:18So what are your thoughts when you hear people say, you know,
- 1:22:21it's too expensive to go to track?
- 1:22:23That's why I don't go. You have me.
- 1:22:26It's true. That'll be, it is expensive, but
- 1:22:29like, like Lewis said, you got to do the increments.
- 1:22:31So you got to find your ways. Like, like this is the right
- 1:22:34time right now. Black Friday, go put your money
- 1:22:37down on some gloves, a suit where you can get it discounted
- 1:22:40and then a couple months from now buy something else.
- 1:22:42But once you get out there and you have everything, that's when
- 1:22:46it, I want to say it becomes cheap because then you, you
- 1:22:50know, you can still mess up your Pike, but it becomes more
- 1:22:54sustainable where you can just manage like, hey, I want to go
- 1:22:58to a track there. I just paid just the track fees.
- 1:23:00I don't have to buy a whole suit and gloves and all that because
- 1:23:03I already have it. But yeah, what I also want to
- 1:23:07mention is you got to ask somebody who rides the track and
- 1:23:10get some help to get there. I know when I first got to the
- 1:23:14track, Rexy, you sold me your bike.
- 1:23:18And at that point I didn't even have a truck.
- 1:23:21I had a car. So you was actually bringing my
- 1:23:23bike up for the first few rounds until I found a way to, you
- 1:23:27know, take it, take it off your hands, but just paying it for
- 1:23:30it. And, you know, just there's
- 1:23:32people, people are so friendly at the track.
- 1:23:34I mean, somebody will help bring you there, bring you back, you
- 1:23:37know, just to get you into that experience and you don't have to
- 1:23:43throw all your money away just to get to the track.
- 1:23:45So if I had to wait for it not to be expensively first a couple
- 1:23:49of times. Right, right.
- 1:23:51Theresa, anything you want to add to that about, you know,
- 1:23:54when you hear the, the, you know, some people complain about
- 1:23:56the, the, the cost and so they don't go.
- 1:23:59I mean, I've heard people, you know, working in a dealership
- 1:24:02for so many years before I've heard people complain about the
- 1:24:05cost, about getting to the track.
- 1:24:07But a lot of times I've I've seen those guys as like, I'm,
- 1:24:11I'm saying something to, you know, justify me not going where
- 1:24:18some people are actually scared to go to the track.
- 1:24:21And I'm like, there's nothing to be scared about.
- 1:24:22You actually can ride your bike to its full potential and
- 1:24:25actually learn your bike to be a better, TJ said.
- 1:24:34There's better ways of getting to the track, not blowing all
- 1:24:36your wine. I mean, there's all the, like
- 1:24:38you said, the forums, there's people going that will help you
- 1:24:41get there. You know, you don't have to blow
- 1:24:44all your money that you can find track days that are actually not
- 1:24:47that expensive to be able to get to the track and just go, you
- 1:24:51know, and have some fun and actually learn the sport and
- 1:24:56learn how to actually ride and not be a nut ball out here in
- 1:24:59the street and make yourself a lot safer.
- 1:25:02You know you'll be you'll be a surprise.
- 1:25:04So yeah, you know, start off on a small bike.
- 1:25:07You know you can one, one set of ties can last the whole weekend
- 1:25:10on a KTM or a Ninja 400, right? Season at the whole weekend.
- 1:25:15All right, you can actually. And then you can flip those.
- 1:25:17You can flip the tires. You can always flip them.
- 1:25:20You know, because if you're beginning to ride or you're not,
- 1:25:22you're not going through ties like that.
- 1:25:24No, but I think some people like to buy tires and and they don't
- 1:25:29really need to change them yet. Yeah.
- 1:25:32You're not going to tires. You're not going to tires like
- 1:25:35that. Man, I'm like, word.
- 1:25:37How many races? Three.
- 1:25:38He's like, yeah, yeah. Funny story, I used to always
- 1:25:43ask racey. I'm like man, I just turn 6.
- 1:25:45I keep slipping. It's like I don't have a year
- 1:25:47grip. You look at tech man, you got a
- 1:25:49boy life left. So tell me that every weekend
- 1:25:53you still got you still got a couple more races left on the
- 1:25:55side. It's like off it.
- 1:25:58But once you once you get like faster, faster and then you you
- 1:26:02realize like it starts to be getting a little more dangerous.
- 1:26:05You got to start keeping up with all the all the tires and, and
- 1:26:11the fluids and all that stuff and that's when it can become
- 1:26:14expensive. So, but right, just just to get
- 1:26:17out there and and. You know, it's good, as I was
- 1:26:20mentioning to TJ when I said that it's good to learn how to
- 1:26:22ride on on worn tires. You know, it's it's it's, it's
- 1:26:26good to learn how to do that because if you don't know when
- 1:26:29the tires falling degrading, then how do you know when to
- 1:26:32change it? And as a beginner rider, you
- 1:26:34kind of just have to go and you're not again, if you're Mesa
- 1:26:37on these fast guys or whatever the case may be, you already
- 1:26:40know when you should be changing tires and you're a beginner.
- 1:26:42You know, you can't just be changing tires because the
- 1:26:45person next to you is changing tires and y'all are doing
- 1:26:47similar times. Yep.
- 1:26:51Thanks. Thanks.
- 1:26:54Yep. Yeah.
- 1:26:55And then for me, the only thing I'll add to that is there's
- 1:26:58always going to be people that I don't want to go.
- 1:27:00It's too expensive. And some people you'll never
- 1:27:04convince. And other people, it's like
- 1:27:06reset. There's a fear to them of going
- 1:27:09to the track. Oh, I'm going to crash my bike.
- 1:27:10I'm going to. I said, look, crashing your bike
- 1:27:12on the track is like leaving your house and saying I'm a
- 1:27:15crash on the street. You do you ever leave your house
- 1:27:19and say you're going to crash on the street?
- 1:27:20No, because you're going to go out and ride, same thing we're
- 1:27:23going to track. You go out and ride your ride
- 1:27:26and you ride it the way you know how to ride it.
- 1:27:28And you're actually going to be able to learn a little bit more.
- 1:27:30Some track organizations even give the first or second session
- 1:27:34of the day for free to a new rider just to get you to the
- 1:27:37track so you can see what it's like.
- 1:27:39And if you want to stay the rest of the day, you could stay the
- 1:27:41rest of the day. Like there's, there's plenty of
- 1:27:44excuses, but none of them are actually really good because at
- 1:27:48the, at the bare minimum, you're going to be a, a more confident
- 1:27:52rider and you're going to have the ability to do so in a safe
- 1:27:55environment. Whereas if you do go down at the
- 1:27:57track, there's medical personnel right there, There's people
- 1:28:00looking out for you if you crash on the street.
- 1:28:02I mean, they, there's a guy that crashed on the tail of the
- 1:28:04dragon. They found him three days later.
- 1:28:07Dude, I just heard about that. I heard something not I don't
- 1:28:10think it's the same story but some dude crashed some roads and
- 1:28:12they found him like 24 or 27 hours later or whatever.
- 1:28:15Yeah, they found this guy a couple of days later
- 1:28:18disemboweled because of bear ate him because he died and a bear
- 1:28:22ate him. So this dude left his house and
- 1:28:24I'm sure that wasn't on his list of I'm worried about crashing.
- 1:28:28You should be worried about getting about a bear, Yoka.
- 1:28:34I'm going to the track because I've never heard of it again.
- 1:28:37Eaten by a bear after they crash at the track.
- 1:28:40I'm just saying. Yeah.
- 1:28:42No, no, no, not at all. Well, guys, I think we could
- 1:28:49probably keep talking about this, but I think we're going to
- 1:28:51call it here next week. We're going to be talking about
- 1:28:56Moto GP first era in the Motorsports, which is 2002 after
- 1:29:01they left the 500CC. I don't know what Moto GP was
- 1:29:06called before Moto GP so I I went to look it up.
- 1:29:10World Championship. OK, there you go.
- 1:29:12Yeah. The 500, the 500CC Grand Prix or
- 1:29:16the 500CC World Championship? Or something like that.
- 1:29:19Yeah. So we'll be talking about that.
- 1:29:21So you're going to be hearing names that you have not heard in
- 1:29:24a long time or maybe ever. It's going to be very
- 1:29:27interesting. So definitely stick around for
- 1:29:29that. I want to thank everyone that's
- 1:29:31been commenting, liking, subscribing.
- 1:29:34We appreciate you because without you guys we wouldn't be
- 1:29:37here doing what we're doing, so keep up.
- 1:29:41With just four random dudes talking to cameras.
- 1:29:43Yeah, just before, just before random dudes.
- 1:29:45Actually it would be just us, like on a WhatsApp chat doing
- 1:29:49the same thing but not recording it.
- 1:29:51Exactly, exactly. You know, at least we look sane
- 1:29:56and and and and senile. So sane and and calm.
- 1:30:00So yeah, it's it's a good thing. So definitely we're going to try
- 1:30:04to do our part. So until next week, my name is
- 1:30:07Rex 45. It's the Be Forever Cool
- 1:30:09podcast. You have TJ from two years and
- 1:30:11coffee Reese from Attack Yamaha, the numbers guy, the real Louis
- 1:30:15Ortega. Until next week, peace.
- 1:30:20Peace, peace, peace.
