- 0:00Any questions? We're back.
- 0:03This is the Jabba and the Mouth show.
- 0:08Jabba and the mouth Speedy. You love the dance music, don't
- 0:15you? Every generation.
- 0:18I might have to prepare for it if I have to go out with Frank.
- 0:22Hey, listen, we we cannot wait for you to go out.
- 0:26With Jabba, was very excited for that, I could tell.
- 0:30If you if you missed the interview, Frank is giving
- 0:33Speedy a full night nice bar tab an extra ticket to go to the
- 0:38Stone Pony for their concert series this summer in the Jersey
- 0:42Shore. Frank Barton's over there.
- 0:45He's for Jersey Shore Guy and Speedy.
- 0:48We could get you a date very easily or you.
- 0:51Could that is the dream for? Nathan.
- 0:53Hey, look, it's not about Nathan right here, Nathan.
- 0:56Nathan just wants to be this ultimate wig man.
- 0:59Look, the two of you guys as wingman, like Nathan as your
- 1:03wingman, I mean, arguably would be the greatest thing I I've
- 1:08ever seen in my entire life. And I would love to be a family
- 1:10on the wall for that. I really would.
- 1:12All the Lisa's gin and tonic, chicken Curry blow pops.
- 1:15I mean, it's all the Nathan specialties.
- 1:19Well, either way, you're not getting out of this Speedy I, I
- 1:23mean, Errol's going to be ecstatic about this.
- 1:26I don't know different seems like.
- 1:27But nice lady, a nice significant other for you,
- 1:30Speedy. I think it's something that you
- 1:32know that you're ready for. I think the world, all your fans
- 1:36out there, all the job and the mouth fans we're we need Speedy
- 1:40to find and misses Speedy. That's that's what we need.
- 1:44And I think it's time, Speedy. I think everyone's there to give
- 1:49you this support right now and I think you should use it,
- 1:51especially coming from such an illustrious guest giving you
- 1:55such a nice deal. And then Jabba said he would pay
- 1:58for your hotel room. So all you have to do, you don't
- 2:02have to pay for any drinks, You don't have to pay for the room.
- 2:05You just got to get there and spit your game.
- 2:07Speedy, what? What would that sound like?
- 2:11I'm just a little serious. I have no idea.
- 2:15Tommy. Tommy, turn your camera on for a
- 2:17second. Come on in here.
- 2:18Thank you, Jamie Lee. All right, there I am.
- 2:21Tommy, what do you think Speedy's game would so pretend
- 2:26like we're we're going out. We're at the Stone Pony.
- 2:32We see, you know, we're at the bar.
- 2:34We get, you know, the nice bar Tab.
- 2:35Frank's there. He gave it.
- 2:37He gave us the connection. And now there's a Bachelorette
- 2:40party there. They're there, Speedy, and
- 2:43everybody knows what it means when there's a Bachelorette
- 2:45party. They're ready to party in more
- 2:48ways than one. It's almost like it's kind of
- 2:51easy there, if anything, you know, especially with a couple
- 2:54of drinks in your system. Come on.
- 2:56Speedy. Well, we know.
- 2:57Look speedy as we saw in the Tic Tac.
- 2:59No graphic. Excellent dancer.
- 3:01I was about to say it has to have some a little bit of
- 3:03alcohol in the system and he has to get the moves going.
- 3:06I think once he gets the moves. Going it's his kind of music at
- 3:08the Stone Pony. It's your kind of music that
- 3:10they play over there in the Jersey Shore.
- 3:11That's that's Asbury Park. That's Bruce Springsteen's
- 3:14stomping grounds right there. That's the place we're talking
- 3:16about, right? So it's going to be it's going
- 3:19to be rock music's probably speedy is my guess.
- 3:22I think this is like, you know, we're just checking off boxes
- 3:25here is what I see. And I and I think, you know, at
- 3:29some point we're just going to have to do this as a as a
- 3:32segment that we film live And, and I think our fans are just
- 3:38going to root for you because I know we all root for you and
- 3:41we're there to help you as teammates as well.
- 3:44So I, I don't know Tommy, it, can you give me like what you
- 3:48think Speedy's game would sound like in that scenario?
- 3:51Well, if we're talking Speedy, like we said that he has a
- 3:55couple of drinks in his system. Whatever you whatever fancies
- 3:57your pickle at the moment. You have a couple of drinks in
- 4:00your system. Speedy, let me ask you
- 4:01something. Are you good at gyrating your
- 4:03hips? Like can you?
- 4:04Can you do a? Little.
- 4:06Can you like do a little swerve? No, because if you like, I'm
- 4:08just saying you were doing some pretty good dance moves there.
- 4:11You know, even when fish you remember Jake.
- 4:13Bring the Tic Tac no back so we can watch Speedy dance again.
- 4:16Fish, we remember the Hit Me with Your Best Shot, Speedy
- 4:21dancing over there in New Orleans with that, we remember
- 4:23exactly how that's true. How the fish do have more video
- 4:27of speedy dancing I forgot I have.
- 4:29Video of Speedy. Dancing.
- 4:31That'll be up for next Tic tac? No actually.
- 4:33Or next episode or whatnot. But speedy, if you gyrate your
- 4:37hips and you do it and you kind of got a little bit going right
- 4:39there. I've seen it like there, but if
- 4:41you. Just just peek out the the the
- 4:43blonde cougar behind him. That's just like, hey, yeah,
- 4:47clapping it up for him. Speedy, you didn't even see this
- 4:51woman. She was all about it.
- 4:52She was all I'm sure she was. I don't even think Errol saw her
- 4:56because I think Errol would have definitely like try to make
- 4:59something. He would have had her gravitate
- 5:00toward her. You know exactly what Errol did.
- 5:03The guy came down with a microphone and said who wants to
- 5:06sing? And Errol took the microphone
- 5:08out of his hand and proceeded to be a better DJ than he was.
- 5:12That's exactly what happened. And I'm sure that surprises 0
- 5:15people that listen to this show that that's what happened.
- 5:18And Errol was fantastic when he took the microphone.
- 5:20I think they tried to do him and his buddy.
- 5:23Was it Ray that was with us? Tried to do What's the rap song?
- 5:28The white boy rap song from the early 90s Jump around.
- 5:32I tried this thing, jump around and Ray forgot the words pretty
- 5:36quickly. Errol.
- 5:38Errol looked like he had done this at a party about 13,000
- 5:43times in his his life because let's face it, the man's DJs
- 5:48work. He you know, he worked like 3
- 5:50different functions before going on the cruise.
- 5:53That guy just works man. They had to peel him off away
- 5:56from jobs to get him on a cruise ship to relax.
- 5:59We hope you're having a good time if you're listening to us
- 6:01live. Hey man, enjoy your cruise
- 6:02that's delayed. Look out for those sharks.
- 6:06Yeah, there's a lot of sharks in that water.
- 6:08We know you don't like that water.
- 6:10It's called fasilophobia, right? Right, Zach?
- 6:15Something like that. I forgot Jurassic Park of a
- 6:17phobia. That's a little phobia.
- 6:20I was right. Phalasophobia.
- 6:22Phalasophobia. Jamie Lee, I was killing it that
- 6:24night. Kind of like so, so if you have
- 6:27phalasophobia, like Titanic's got to be like the scariest
- 6:30movie ever for you. I would imagine just sinking
- 6:33into that deep cold water. That wouldn't be great.
- 6:36I don't know. Arrow's going to be fine,
- 6:37though. That's that's that's a great,
- 6:39you know, safe cruise liner. I'm sure, I'm sure it's fine
- 6:42with the all you can drink inclusive.
- 6:44Oh wait, no, all you drink. Maybe if they had like some
- 6:47smoothies. Some strawberries in a while.
- 6:49Banana smoothies or whatnot. We used to go to Applebee's.
- 6:51Errol used to love some some strawberry banana smoothies.
- 6:54Just saying. Strawberry banana smoothie at
- 6:57Applebee's. Yep, I didn't even know they
- 6:58sold that until Errol asked, so there we go.
- 7:01I think one time he downed like about two of them, you know?
- 7:03Like, you know, not going to lie.
- 7:04He has a, He also has a really, like, my mom has this too.
- 7:09Like he doesn't get brain freeze.
- 7:10Like it's crazy how fast he could, like, drink really,
- 7:13really cold things. Yeah.
- 7:14I mean, there's an easy joke about not having a brain that we
- 7:17can do in there at some point. But brain freeze, brain freeze
- 7:20is something that I fight with every time with those types of
- 7:23things. So I stay away.
- 7:23But I'll never forget, I was on the Israeli Birthright trip and
- 7:28they I got to stay like an extra dozen days because you could,
- 7:31you could do that back then. I don't know if you could do
- 7:33that anymore. But we just me and my one
- 7:35friend, we just stayed in Tel Aviv and we were eating.
- 7:41You'd wake up in the morning, go to the beach and you would get
- 7:43these like smoothies, but they would be spiked with alcohol.
- 7:46So just imagine what you're describing, but spiked with
- 7:48alcohol. And like, you get these French
- 7:51fries, like these steak fries with hummus and like mushrooms
- 7:53and onions on top of them. It's just just so delicious.
- 7:57Like, I've never had that experience anywhere else in my
- 7:59life. But we did that like every
- 8:00morning. We were in Tel Aviv at like
- 8:0210:30 in the morning in January was like 80 degrees. 75° is a
- 8:05beautiful way to start the day. And I just want to give, you
- 8:08know, some prayers out there. It got all the conflict going on
- 8:11in the Middle East, especially real.
- 8:13So right now, stay safe out there.
- 8:15Everybody involved, literally everybody.
- 8:17Yeah, Especially Yeah, no. I'm just going to say
- 8:20especially, I know a couple of reporters that are actually out
- 8:22there covering certain things, so safety out for them as well.
- 8:26Yeah, it's been reporters targeted and things like that.
- 8:29So you know they're in the line of fire out there.
- 8:32Just a little update before we get into our next segment.
- 8:35It's 8779 OKC of eight going into the 4th does.
- 8:39Caliburn still have 0 points. I don't know.
- 8:42I know he really struggled in the first half.
- 8:45I'll pop open the stats. He's got two points on O of 6
- 8:49shooting. He's got 2 foul shots that he's
- 8:51made and four rebounds, 4 assists.
- 8:54Zero from the field, but two points from free throws.
- 8:57Not, I don't know how they win without him doing this, without
- 9:01him scoring. You never know in the fourth
- 9:03quarter the guy comes alive, but they're definitely up against
- 9:06it. But it's still only it's still a
- 9:08single digit game. So they've come back for more.
- 9:11We've seen it. It's still anyway going.
- 9:14Jake says that TJ McConnell's got 18 points.
- 9:16That's like the most annoying player in the NBA, TJ McConnell.
- 9:20But he's got to be. He picks you up full court and
- 9:22he's just finds a way to steal the inbounds pass.
- 9:25Like just do these like take two possessions for one pesky player
- 9:29in the corner. One of the most pesky guys I've
- 9:31ever seen. Yeah.
- 9:32Zach says you hate to play against him.
- 9:34You'd love to have him on your team.
- 9:35You absolutely would love to have that guy on your team.
- 9:37And it's not surprising like Rick Carlisle as that guy on his
- 9:40team, Rick Carlisle was that kind of player as well when he
- 9:43was way back in the day. And he's always had guys that
- 9:46were pesky, so and they play that way.
- 9:49So good for them. We'll see how that goes.
- 9:51We'll keep you guys updated on it.
- 9:52But before we do that, we got to talk about some basketball trade
- 9:56news. Oh, yeah.
- 9:58Desmond Bain on the move to Orlando The the Grizzlies trade
- 10:05Bane to the Magic for a massive haul.
- 10:07ESPN Shamshirani reports of the Grizzlies have traded Desmond
- 10:11Bane to the Magic for Kentavious Caldwell Pope Cole Anthony, four
- 10:16first round picks and one first round pick swap.
- 10:20The draft picks will be this year's number 16th overall pick.
- 10:23The big prize is the Suns first round pick next year. 2
- 10:27unprotected picks in 28 and 30 and the pick swap is in 2029.
- 10:33ESP NS Tim Bontemps reports that the Magic we're not interested
- 10:36in Kevin Durant at which we keep hearing not interested in Kevin
- 10:40Durant from literally every team in the league.
- 10:43We heard that from the Knicks earlier today.
- 10:45We heard it from another team that we were talking about an
- 10:47earlier segment. For some reason, nobody wants KD
- 10:50right now. Maybe it's all his burner
- 10:52accounts, but they didn't expect to be in the sweepstake for
- 10:54Giannis. This was the next available move
- 10:57to get Desmond Bain, according to the Magic source.
- 11:01He added that the Grizzlies are still expected to build around
- 11:03John Moranton, Jaron Jackson junior and will likely extend
- 11:07Jackson this offseason. Desmond Bain this year Average
- 11:11career highs 19.2 points per game 6.1 rebounds 5.3 assists a
- 11:18game shot 48.4 field goal percentage.
- 11:22I believe in the playoffs or actually I don't have the exact
- 11:26numbers for three-point percent for this year speedy, but his
- 11:30career is a 41% shooter from three and he was 47% from the
- 11:35field. I think this year was even
- 11:36better from three if I'm not mistaken.
- 11:38I think he was 39 from three this year.
- 11:40His peak year was 20/22. He was 42.8 I believe from. 3 So
- 11:45when we're talking guys that shoot around 40%, we're talking
- 11:48about the best shooters in the league.
- 11:51And Desmond Bain is one of the best shooting guards or shooters
- 11:54of that is a guard. I don't know if he's a point I I
- 11:57wouldn't. I would probably say he's a 2
- 11:58guard. He plays.
- 11:59Two guard mostly. But you know, he handles the
- 12:02ball really well for A2 guard. So you know, you can, he's not
- 12:05super tall. But listen, everything is a
- 12:08bucket for this guy. Catch and shoot.
- 12:11They say as a catch and shoot three.
- 12:12I think he had the highest percentage in the league,
- 12:15something like that, where he's the best catch and shoot three
- 12:17guy in the NBA right now with volume.
- 12:20So he's taking shots and he's making them.
- 12:23This is a guy that you want. And then on the other side of
- 12:25the court, huge two way player. He's one of the better.
- 12:30You know, it kind of reminds me of more like Mikhail Bridges
- 12:33defensively as a little bit more stocky, a lot more muscular of a
- 12:37player, but similar type of he's going to stay in front of you.
- 12:40You might not be the best defender in the league, but he's
- 12:43certainly going to stay in front of your guy and he's going to
- 12:46make your work. He's a two way player.
- 12:48He's a guy that anyone would want on their team.
- 12:51However, what price are teams going to pay for this?
- 12:56That 2026 pick, Speedy could be a top three pick.
- 13:00That Sun's pick, because we know the Suns are getting rid of KD.
- 13:03We know Bradley Beal is washed up beyond recognition and all
- 13:07they're going to have is Booker. So that is a lottery team.
- 13:09We've seen it already. That's nothing.
- 13:12They should rebuild around Booker.
- 13:15They should get rid of everybody else.
- 13:16They should try to bottom out, but they don't have that pick
- 13:20next year. So I don't think they're going
- 13:22to try to bottom out because why would you if you don't have the
- 13:25pick now? At the same time, is Desmond
- 13:30Bayne worth enough to give up what could be a franchise player
- 13:34in that draft, not to mention a whole bunch of other rotational
- 13:37pieces. Most people think Cole Anthony's
- 13:39decent rotational guard, you know this guy off the bench that
- 13:42you wouldn't mind being your backup point guard.
- 13:44Pope was signed to a nice contract before the season and
- 13:48then had one of the worst seasons of anybody that played
- 13:50in basketball this year coming away from Denver.
- 13:53So they tried to get off of that contract.
- 13:55And I heard that one of these picks, Speedy, was actually
- 13:58thrown in to sweeten the pot to take Caldwell Pope off of their
- 14:02hands. So that's why it's 5 total picks
- 14:05with the swap instead of just 4. But again, that's a lot to give
- 14:11up for a catch and shoot 3 and D guy.
- 14:14Now we saw the Knicks do it with Mikhail Bridges, right?
- 14:17Mikhail Bridges, I would say is a little bit more diverse
- 14:19offensively, but he wasn't this year, right?
- 14:23You would say that Bain, Bain had a 49 point game.
- 14:25In fact, you're going to see clips from it right now earlier
- 14:28this season. The guy's for real.
- 14:30He could he can really put it in the basket and he does all the
- 14:34little things right as well. Six rebounds, 5 assists.
- 14:38That's that's two guard numbers. That's what Halliburton's
- 14:40numbers look like. As far as outside of the
- 14:43assists, he does everything just as good as that guy.
- 14:46He's better defensively than Halliburton.
- 14:48Obviously it's not the passer Halliburton is, but if you
- 14:51needed a guy like this and what did the Magic need?
- 14:55They needed shooters. He's perfect for that team.
- 14:59Think about what they have. They got Paulo Bonschero, who's
- 15:01this young superstar in the making and when you and he
- 15:06drives to the lane, people give him attention.
- 15:08What do guys like that need people to kick out to What?
- 15:12Do they not have a guy like Desmond Bain?
- 15:14Now they have him, Is it enough? The East is wide open, Speedy.
- 15:19Do you think it's enough to get out of the East getting Bane?
- 15:24You have to get him to that Max potential that you're going to
- 15:27believe that he was the first round pick and he fell on the
- 15:29draft that year. He was supposed to be more like
- 15:31a mid first round pick as that three and D type guy.
- 15:34But again, is it enough when you have those other picks that you
- 15:37could have used to accumulate more depth?
- 15:39I was saying they just need a more of a backcourt.
- 15:41They have not developed him well with Cole Anthony, who I liked
- 15:45at the time. I thought he would be a better
- 15:46player than he's trying to be. Like he said, he's a serviceable
- 15:48backup but not much of a starter.
- 15:51Anthony Black was another one that was a first round pick that
- 15:53came from Arkansas. Very fast point guard, but not
- 15:57overly, not overly skilled overall as a shooter.
- 16:00So you're really looking at a lot of stretch fours on this
- 16:02team. Guys that can shoot with good
- 16:05size. Great defensive team like we
- 16:06discussed last year, but was not the offensive team that they
- 16:09needed. Bane is a great fit for them.
- 16:11I love the fit, but it's not the only player they need now.
- 16:14Maybe they're hoping that maybe other teams either overreact to
- 16:17trades or obviously the Celtics maybe not being as good without
- 16:19Tatum, but the Celtics are still a very good roster overall that
- 16:23probably we would still take over Orlando, Milwaukee, maybe
- 16:28they trade things, but the Knicks are still going to be
- 16:30there, the Cavs and the Pacers. So again, they needed a lot more
- 16:34than just the one player. We'll see.
- 16:35Maybe they do get a free agent. Maybe there's something up their
- 16:37sleeve. If that's the case, maybe it
- 16:39doesn't look as bad. But I think they needed those
- 16:40extra picks to make it work. Like you said, that Sun's pick I
- 16:43definitely could see being that high.
- 16:45I mean, that's a, that's a price, right?
- 16:48That Sun's pick surprise. I, I mean, we've keep hearing
- 16:52about the draft next year. We know the Boozer brothers will
- 16:56be involved in that draft. I was just going to mention
- 16:58them. We know AJ Dybansa is going to
- 17:02be, I don't know if I'm 100% sure he's pronouncing his name
- 17:05right, but that's the guy that I keep hearing is going to be the
- 17:08other guy in BYU. It's a loaded draft you gave up
- 17:14that for and a whole bunch else for a three and D guy.
- 17:18You better be right. You better be right or you're
- 17:21really mortgaging really your job as the general manager of
- 17:26this team. If you're wrong about this,
- 17:27you're fired. Yeah, and when the you brought
- 17:30up Bridges, when the Knicks traded for Bridges last year,
- 17:32you kind of thought of it. All right, They're a player or
- 17:36two away type thing. But Orlando is not thought of
- 17:39that way. They're two to three and a lot
- 17:42more things have to happen, right?
- 17:43Obviously, they have to stay healthy to start because again,
- 17:46Franz Wagner, for a big man like that, you hate to see that kind
- 17:49of thing for an injury for that type of versatile big man.
- 17:52Obviously, Ponchero was hurt for a while.
- 17:54A lot of their other draft picks have not developed as well as
- 17:56they should because of injuries either in their front court.
- 17:59But we knew that they needed the back court as a result.
- 18:01The problem is they weren't just that one piece where like the
- 18:04Knicks had it with Bridges. Then they end up getting talent
- 18:06later in the offseason, which I guess I was unexpected out of
- 18:10nowhere. Not completely, but enough.
- 18:12They're say, all right, the Knicks are an obvious
- 18:15championship contender now. Obviously they didn't, but they
- 18:18made the Eastern Conference finals.
- 18:19I don't think you're thinking that with Orlando right now,
- 18:21just on this move alone. If they do something else,
- 18:24maybe, but they're still not there yet.
- 18:26And maybe they're banking on the fact that they're not going to
- 18:28get a free agent. But why would you even sell your
- 18:30hand like that and be impulsive? Is France hurt?
- 18:33How? How hurt is France?
- 18:35Well, no, he's not hurt now. He, he, he was hurt during the
- 18:37season, though. He.
- 18:38Right, so they just had they just fought injuries this past
- 18:41year. But the thing that I was
- 18:43fascinated by, and maybe Jake, you can touch on this with the
- 18:46Magic, they decided to make Jalen Suggs their point guard
- 18:51for real and not just mess around with this, You know,
- 18:54maybe he'll play off ball and call Anthony.
- 18:56He'll play play point guard. They went with Suggs when he was
- 18:59on the court. They were really good team.
- 19:00When he got hurt and he wasn't out there, they were not a very
- 19:03good team. Do you think that with this
- 19:06edition that they are a top four team in the East next year?
- 19:09Because that's what they're asking, that's what they're
- 19:11saying they're doing, I would imagine by trading all these
- 19:15picks. Like, that's the last move,
- 19:16isn't it? Yeah, I think it's it's really
- 19:19interesting. I think it's really close.
- 19:20I mean, obviously now with, you know, Jason Tatum going down
- 19:23with Achilles injury, you figure they're out for this year.
- 19:25I mean, they'll probably still compete with Jaylen Brown, but
- 19:27you figure they're definitely not going to be the strongest
- 19:29team. So right now that probably
- 19:31leaves, you know, probably solidify top three being the
- 19:33Knicks, the Cavs and the Pacers. And then you kind of see who's
- 19:37that fourth team. And I think the Magic could
- 19:39probably fit in there right away because I don't really see too
- 19:42many other teams, you know, big up there and contending and the
- 19:46magic. And like you said, you know, I
- 19:47think they they put Jalen Suggs in there as their point guard.
- 19:50It worked out really well for them.
- 19:51And I guess they weren't really getting what they wanted of Cole
- 19:53Anthony. Similar with Markelle Fultz.
- 19:55They I think they were maybe more just looking for a backup
- 19:57roll up point guard. So if they add in someone like
- 20:00Desmond Bayne, who we kind of just because he's like a hybrid
- 20:022 guard who can give you great on the defense on the other side
- 20:06of the ball. And then, you know, maybe take
- 20:07the pressure a little bit off of Paolo and Franz as well.
- 20:12So I think it's a great move. For Orlando, although you are
- 20:16right about that fish, you know that that draft pick from
- 20:18Phoenix could be really valuable at this and it could bite them
- 20:21in the ass if it doesn't go the right way.
- 20:23So it it is a higher risk gamble.
- 20:26But I think in the East, especially when you're not going
- 20:28to have to deal with Boston for this year, it's absolutely the
- 20:30right move to go for it. And then the other side of it
- 20:32from Memphis, you still have John Moran and he is still a
- 20:35young star who, you know, obviously got to figure out the
- 20:38off the court issues. And then again, he has been
- 20:40dealing with injuries here and there.
- 20:41But you just think about how many teams in the West, I mean,
- 20:44you look how close the Western Conference was down the stretch.
- 20:47They only were like separated most teams by like a game or two
- 20:50at the end of the season. So I think it makes perfect
- 20:53sense for them to try to retool and figure they're probably not
- 20:55going to be able to go for it. And how dense the West, I mean,
- 20:58the West has always been battle tested conference and you have
- 21:02teams all over the place who are, you know, willing to
- 21:05compete and, you know, maybe they can try to build around JA
- 21:09and Jaron Jackson. You know, obviously they got to
- 21:11pay him. Of course, you know, I got to
- 21:12give him his contract, you know, and I think he has earned it.
- 21:15Obviously. I think he was, what was he
- 21:16second or third and defensive player of the, I believe Evan
- 21:19Mobley didn't come out with the with the.
- 21:21Yeah, I think Jackson should have won it last year, too.
- 21:23I think they gave it to Draymond Green.
- 21:24Right. He did play, He played very
- 21:26dominantly. And, you know, he's kind of been
- 21:27the anchor for their defense, similar to a sense like a Rudy
- 21:31Gobert, but it may be a little bit better of a score.
- 21:33Yes. But yeah, I honestly, I think
- 21:36it's a great move for both teams because, you know, the Grizzlies
- 21:38can kind of, I guess, you know, re evaluate a little bit, see
- 21:41what they have with John JJ and who they can put around them.
- 21:44And then for Orlando, it's you know what, you might as well go
- 21:46for it now with if you see that the Indiana Pacers were their
- 21:49miracle run that they've had this year all the way to the
- 21:50Finals. And then, you know, you only
- 21:52really have to deal with the Knicks and the Cavs.
- 21:54So if you have a Magic, you know, you might as well go for
- 21:56it. So I think it's a great move for
- 21:57them. Does make sense if you're the
- 21:59Grizzlies, right? They got rid of their coach.
- 22:02They it was clear that Bain was making the money that had to be
- 22:06given to extensions to to Jackson and or Morantz,
- 22:09depending on if they want to do that at all.
- 22:11That's a whole nother story. Well, I'm sure it's something we
- 22:14will talk about a lot this offseason is JA Morantz staying
- 22:17in Memphis. They could say whatever they
- 22:19want. They really can.
- 22:21They could say we're going to build around JA.
- 22:23OK, but if they get the number one pick, they look into it next
- 22:28year by getting that, or maybe they get the number three pick.
- 22:33There's four or five guys coming out next year's draft that can
- 22:36easily be a franchise cornerstone.
- 22:38John Moran wasn't number one pick.
- 22:40He was #2 right, Doesn't have to be the number one guy.
- 22:44And there's a bunch of guys that go later in the draft that
- 22:46people do well. I mean, Bain was what?
- 22:4925 No, he. Was in the top 10.
- 22:51No, he was like 25. He was supposed to be like a
- 22:53mid. First looking it up, Desmond
- 22:54Bain went 30th. TCU I believe. 30th.
- 23:00I think you could you could argue the fish looking back,
- 23:02though, that even though JA was the second overall pick, looking
- 23:06at how Zion has panned out with all his injury concerns and the
- 23:08fact that he has clearly not, you know, been motivated to stay
- 23:12in shape, the job probably is the the right choice for the
- 23:14number one pick in hindsight, of course.
- 23:16But you know, obviously he's got his off court issues and the
- 23:19fact that he has dealt with injuries himself too.
- 23:21But he's definitely, when he's healthy, he's been a fantastic
- 23:24player, you know? I guess you would still take JA
- 23:27today. Yeah, he kind of seems like a
- 23:29little bit more of like a like a bouncier maybe even if you want
- 23:33to say that like Derrick Rose from back in the day, like just,
- 23:37I mean, maybe you wanted to work on his shot a little bit more.
- 23:39We're not willing to say that RJ Barrett would be better than
- 23:42either one of them, though. Yeah, no, I.
- 23:43Don't think, I don't think that's happening.
- 23:45Apparently he might be traded again.
- 23:48Oh, is he now RJ? Good for RJ collecting those
- 23:51checks. We loved him when he was in New
- 23:53York. Sometimes he.
- 23:55Had a couple good shots. Most people loved him.
- 23:57That wasn't Julius Randall. Yeah, we didn't hear enough
- 24:01about bad beef. I think RJ is just kind of a
- 24:04weird dude. I think that might have just
- 24:06been what it was. Zion.
- 24:08I mean the stories with Zion, with the women and the the
- 24:12videos and the. I didn't even mention that, but
- 24:15you're right, it's he's getting way out there.
- 24:17Bro he's he's, I mean he's only what is even 27 yet like.
- 24:22He's, I don't think. So he's got to be.
- 24:24I mean, he's should. Be 19 when he ran his.
- 24:26Career and like, you know, he was, he definitely played
- 24:30lighter last year. He's 24.
- 24:32That's crazy. He's only. 22,000.
- 24:36Wow, wow. So he's still young, right?
- 24:39He's he's only three years older than me.
- 24:41He's only. Two years old than me.
- 24:43It's crazy. Can you imagine?
- 24:45So I mean, look, you know, if you're in your early 20s and you
- 24:49have millions of dollars, I guess you just find all the
- 24:51people on Only Fans and have yourself a grand old time 'cause
- 24:54that's certainly what Zion's been doing.
- 24:57Maybe it's time for him to get on a team that wins, you know,
- 25:00and start playing like he deserves this money.
- 25:03It is kind of a shame New Orleans just can't put together
- 25:05a product. It looked like for a couple
- 25:08years ago, it looked like they were about to turn a corner and
- 25:10it just went completely South so fast over there.
- 25:14It's a shame. I thought when they when they
- 25:16added CJ McConnell a couple years ago after Portland decided
- 25:20to unload them, I thought he could have gave them like great
- 25:22leadership and it looked like they were going to turn things
- 25:24around. And of course, you know, with
- 25:25Brandon Ingram as well as being cast off from the Lakers, even
- 25:28when they had Lonzo before his tragic injuries went down, it
- 25:31seemed like they were building a little bit of a core around
- 25:33there. But it all it all put down the
- 25:35Zion, and you know His. I have to ask you a question,
- 25:39Jake. I got into an argument with
- 25:40Errol months ago and Speedy knows exactly where.
- 25:42I'm going. I'm going to say Brandon Ingram,
- 25:44always favorite player. I know where you're going with
- 25:46this. So Errol thinks Brandon Ingram
- 25:49because again, number two overall pick, he thought he was,
- 25:53you know, one of the great, the best players in the NBA.
- 25:55And I was like, most analytical guys think he's terrible and
- 25:59he's got a, you know, very low efficiency rating.
- 26:02And I said I'd much rather have Mikhail Bridges than Brandon
- 26:07Ingram. Now, you can say that Brandon
- 26:09Ingram is a better scorer than Mikhail Bridges, but I don't
- 26:12think he does anything else better.
- 26:15And Errol disagreed with me. What do you think?
- 26:17Now that the season's over for both of those guys?
- 26:19Who you taking? You know, if it was early in
- 26:22their careers, I think I probably still would have said
- 26:24Brandon Ingram because I felt like the ceiling was probably
- 26:26higher. But at this point in their
- 26:28careers, obviously, I think it would take Mikhail Bridges just
- 26:30because Mikhail does like he's, I think, like you said, Brandon
- 26:34Ingram probably, you know, shot for shot score.
- 26:37You probably would take Brandon Ingram.
- 26:39But other than that, like Mikhail Bridges, I probably
- 26:41would think he's a better defender.
- 26:42I think he's probably a better facilitator at times.
- 26:45You know, and Brandon Ingram, again, he he does that get
- 26:47behind the ball a lot. But personally, I think I would
- 26:50still stick with Mikhail Bridges because he's kind of like a glue
- 26:52guy, honestly. Like, again, not not an All Star
- 26:55player, but I think he's got that potential and he's been
- 26:57like right on the cusp of it many times.
- 26:59But you know, he's just had a lot of great teammates, you
- 27:01know, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Jalen Brunson, guys
- 27:04who've been, you know, better than him.
- 27:05So he has, I don't think he's had that chance to shine.
- 27:07But you know, when he was in Brooklyn for that one or two
- 27:10years, we saw how great he was and that potential he had with
- 27:13Cam Johnson and it's or Cam Thomas.
- 27:16Excuse me. And you could clearly see that
- 27:18the guy had the ability to be, I think an All Star level player.
- 27:22But, you know, I think teams probably prefer him more as like
- 27:24a six man or or, you know, a really good role player or even,
- 27:27you know, the like the solid, you know, 3rd or 4th scorer on
- 27:32the starting lineup. But yeah, personally, at this
- 27:34point, I think you are right. I probably would go with Mikhail
- 27:36Bridges. But, you know, I, I think also
- 27:38Brandon Ingram kind of did get screwed over a little early in
- 27:40his career, especially when, you know, LeBron came over to the
- 27:43Lakers in. The middle LeBron moved to the
- 27:45Lakers. LeBron.
- 27:47The The infamous Lebron's gonna trade you.
- 27:53You're you're seven of the GM LeBron soccer.
- 27:55To chime in though, real quick on the whole Mikkel Bridges
- 27:58versus Brandon Ingram debate, of course, the best, we always say
- 28:01it all the time, the best ability is availability.
- 28:04And of course Mikkel Bridges has not missed a single NBA game.
- 28:07And if we're looking at the amount of games they've just
- 28:10played, Brandon Ingram has played 495 games while after
- 28:15while coming being in the league 20/16/2017 and McHale Bridges
- 28:19being in the league 2018-2019 has played 556 games.
- 28:22So that is quite the, quite the, quite the amount of games and
- 28:26just not short amount of time that he's been because it's only
- 28:29two years, two seasons ahead of him.
- 28:30But I, I, I that can't go unnoticed though, like the
- 28:33amount of time, the amount of availability that McHale Bridges
- 28:36has is absolutely unmatched by anybody in the league.
- 28:38So. Yeah, Tommy, even the one year I
- 28:41think when he got traded from Phoenix to Brooklyn or it was.
- 28:44He played every game. He.
- 28:45Played. I think he actually got an extra
- 28:47game somehow. Like he, I think he played 83
- 28:49games, like he might have really played.
- 28:50One more game. More than he was allowed, which
- 28:53like, I didn't even know you could do because I thought
- 28:55there's like, like minimum, but also the maximum where you're
- 28:58not allowed to, you know, because of the, the signings and
- 29:00you have to get, you know, medical clear.
- 29:02But somehow he played an extra game.
- 29:03And so like you said, he he's just healthy all the time.
- 29:06He's always there and he's ready.
- 29:07Yeah. He even played, yeah, he played
- 29:0883 games in a season. You can do that.
- 29:11We never think of that except with football because they're
- 29:13traded and they don't get a buy weekend.
- 29:16All right, the NBA Finals are back tonight in about 10
- 29:22minutes. We'll have tip off in game five
- 29:25in Oklahoma City. It is a Tide series at 2.
- 29:29The Thunder one game four of the NBA Finals versus the Pacers 111
- 29:33to 104, tying the series at 2. The Thunder came back from a 10
- 29:36point deficit in the third quarter, down 86 to 76, and came
- 29:42back all the way to win. The Thunder outscored the Pacers
- 29:4435 to 18 since late in the third.
- 29:48They didn't hit. The Pacers hit 03 pointers in
- 29:51the fourth quarter. Thunder just made 33 pointers in
- 29:54the entire game, the lowest total for any team in a playoff
- 29:57win in the last 10 years since the Nuggets in 2019.
- 30:00Shay Gildjus, Alexander, 35 points. 15 of those points came
- 30:04in the last four minutes and 38 seconds of the game, the most in
- 30:09NBA history. In NBA Finals game, Shay hit six
- 30:13free throws down the stretch in the final 44 seconds.
- 30:16Benedict Matheran missed three out of four free throws that
- 30:18could have made it A1 possession game.
- 30:20The Thunder are now 22 and 12 in games where they trailed by
- 30:23double digits, the best record since the 9798 Bulls.
- 30:29Wow, this this series is I just didn't want to give the Pacers
- 30:34credit. I really couldn't.
- 30:36I thought most of the games would go the way this game went.
- 30:39The Pacers run out to Leeds because they have streaky teams
- 30:43and then they get cold because they run this 7 seconds or less
- 30:47offense that Mike D'Antoni wished he could have run as fast
- 30:50as they run. But they're going up against a
- 30:53team that has the MVP, Shay Gil, just Alexander is deadly from
- 30:58inside. If you foul this guy, who's
- 31:00going to hit foul shots at the end of the game.
- 31:02He had six of them. And we have some highlights and
- 31:05we'll show them to you in a little bit.
- 31:06But they're not going to show you the last minute of the game
- 31:09because it was just foul shot back and forth, foul shot back
- 31:12and forth after Shay made sure that he took over and scored a
- 31:15bunch of buckets in a row to get them the lead and then he
- 31:18wouldn't allow them to to come back Here we have some of it and
- 31:21guess what? It's all mid range.
- 31:23It defies the analytics, Speedy. It defies the analytics.
- 31:27Well, there's a couple of threes, but he's a great player.
- 31:32He just dices guys up. Why aren't they sending two guys
- 31:34at them? I'll tell you why.
- 31:36Because he'll find the open man They can't.
- 31:38He does it very differently than Brunson.
- 31:40Brunson kind of comes off the angles a little bit more than
- 31:43Shay. Shay's willing to do this with
- 31:44his his handle and that's what's scary.
- 31:47He can go either direction straight up on you at any point
- 31:50in time. He's longer than Brunson, so he
- 31:53can get his shot over more guys, even though Brunson always seems
- 31:56to get it off with his turnarounds.
- 31:58I, I just love watching this guy play.
- 32:01I don't get to see a lot of them, you know, kind of out
- 32:03West. I don't stay up late enough to
- 32:05see all of it. I'm a teacher.
- 32:07Look, guys, let's face it, you know, I wake up early.
- 32:09It's, it's tough. I'll watch the highlights.
- 32:12I watch most of the games that start at 7.
- 32:14It's just 8:00. You know, for this time of the
- 32:17year, it's real important that you that you give them proper
- 32:21respect and shade. Jill, just Alexander, my God.
- 32:23And I, I still think Yokich probably should have deserved
- 32:26MVP. I just think Yokich is a one of
- 32:28one and you just get sometimes just get tired of giving the
- 32:31same guy the MVP. But he's doing stuff as a 2
- 32:34guard that we haven't seen since guys like Kobe, since guys like
- 32:38Jordan. I'm not calling him Kobe or
- 32:39Jordan, but the way he's playing, very reminiscent
- 32:42speedy. Yeah, again, it's something that
- 32:45it's a well-rounded game that he has, like you said, he defies
- 32:48the logic with not having to force threes, not having to rely
- 32:52on threes like you see other point guards do.
- 32:54And again, the mid range game, I always said it's fine if if it's
- 32:57open, like obviously you don't want to like force shots.
- 32:59You're not going to play ISO ball all the time.
- 33:01But if the shots open, the shot is open, you you take it and the
- 33:05Thunder have enough size to be able to compensate that with
- 33:07either offensive rebounding or you try to make them guard it.
- 33:11And then you can get more inside looks.
- 33:12You might get more one-on-one match up where he is able to
- 33:14drive to the hoop or he is able to drive to get free throws and
- 33:18that's the type of guy that he is.
- 33:20And the Thunder have a lot of players like that.
- 33:22They don't have one way type of players that are just specialty
- 33:26shooters or just specialty inside guys.
- 33:29You got to balance a big man with Jalen Williams, who again
- 33:31can be a three-point as a three-point shooter, kind of
- 33:34streaky. But again, OKC didn't have to
- 33:36rely on that because they only shot 16 threes.
- 33:38They only made three of them. That wasn't the game plan,
- 33:40obviously, but they have enough guys where they can play
- 33:43different styles with everybody all at once.
- 33:46And it was just a matter of time where their offensive depth
- 33:49wasn't the same kind of liability like you saw in Game
- 33:51three. Because the Pacers in Game 3
- 33:54outscored the Thunder wings and guards off the bench
- 33:57drastically. And that was the big difference
- 33:59in Game 3 when the Pacers were able to run away with it in the
- 34:01fourth quarter, the Pacers looked like they were doing that
- 34:04again. And then the Thunder got some of
- 34:07those guys to finally elevate their games off the bench and
- 34:10didn't let them drastically have that type of rotation advantage
- 34:14that they claim to have in game #3 and they have enough type of
- 34:19defenders to play versatile type defense as well.
- 34:22There's like we were talking about it in the preview, there's
- 34:25no defensive liability on the on the OK C Thunder whatsoever.
- 34:29And they finally played some matchups that worked against
- 34:32being able to shut down Siakam at certain points in that game.
- 34:35Halliburton was good but not amazing.
- 34:38And that's the type of number one type hyper efficient defense
- 34:42we've seen OKC play. They were talking about, I don't
- 34:46know which writers it was, but OKC, if they win this title,
- 34:49like one of the best defenses ever for a championship team.
- 34:52And there's parts of this postseason where they haven't
- 34:55played like it. Now, granted, I think most of
- 34:56their duds have been more on offense, but it's still
- 34:59sometimes where the Pacers who are not this like overly
- 35:02talented team, yes, Keith, not this overly talented team.
- 35:06I've exposed at certain instances because of coaching.
- 35:09And now you're finally seeing that OKC Thunder defense that
- 35:12you're expecting to see late in that game, late in the fourth
- 35:14quarter when they only allowed eighteen points.
- 35:18Yeah, I just, I think it's a little bit, it's a combination
- 35:21of like a lot of things. But the one thing that I've seen
- 35:26from Shay is, is his ability to get off the perimeter and get
- 35:34mid range shots and be able to finish those.
- 35:38And that's the one thing like when you see a championship team
- 35:42and you see a young guy, and we've obviously seen a lot of
- 35:47young kids going to try and win a championship the first time,
- 35:52right? And we've talked about that.
- 35:53Well, they're the 4th youngest team ever to make it this far,
- 35:57and the Pacers are one of them too.
- 35:59I think they're eighth all time, something like that.
- 36:01But you see how he's able to get into the lane and, and not not
- 36:06only create a shot, but also be able to do other things with the
- 36:11basketball. And it's, and it's fun to see.
- 36:14And I, I love the fact that we're at 22 right now with both
- 36:19teams because there are defensive aspects on both sides,
- 36:23as you said, from the wing play and, and how they can extend the
- 36:26court speedy. But seeing, seeing these two
- 36:29guys and do these things, it, it's been really, really fun to
- 36:33see. And I'm excited for the rest of
- 36:37this series to kind of see which of these stars step up and see
- 36:43what they do. And it'll be fun.
- 36:46It'll be fun. You know, what's fun is
- 36:50realizing that my my beloved Knicks, they weren't so bad
- 36:55stopping Pascal Siakam, because he isn't.
- 36:57No one's stopping him. And I think we need to give him
- 37:00a little bit of credit. He's got 20 points in this game,
- 37:03if I'm not mistaken. I think he had five steals.
- 37:06Yeah. So listen to this line from
- 37:08Siakam. He had plus seven in a game that
- 37:11they lost by 7. So keep that in mind.
- 37:13Eight boards, 5 assists, 5 steals in a block.
- 37:17He's doing that from the power forward position against being
- 37:20guarded by either Chet or maybe they switch Hardenstein on to
- 37:24him every once in a while. That's two pretty good defensive
- 37:27players and he's still doing that.
- 37:30I mean, that guy, he gave the Knicks everything they could
- 37:33have. He won two games by himself in
- 37:36that series, in my opinion, and they did give him the Eastern
- 37:39Conference Finals MVP. Is it going to be enough?
- 37:43Well, not if Oklahoma City has a game like they did in game four.
- 37:47Listen to these free throw numbers.
- 37:49Speedy Chet, 6 of 6 from the line.
- 37:52Jaylen Williams, 11 of 11 from the line.
- 37:55Shay Giljus Alexander, 9:50 from the line.
- 37:58This is all in the same game. Hey, Jaylen Williams is is the
- 38:02key to that too. 27 points, seven boards, 3 assists.
- 38:07Don't forget your boy Alex Caruso.
- 38:09And that's who I wanted to get to as well.
- 38:11Caruso not not as a lead of a shooter.
- 38:13He also put up 20 points, seven of nine from the field, hit one
- 38:16of two threes, five of seven from the line.
- 38:19I mean, the amount of they had, they were 34 of 38 from the free
- 38:23throw line, shooting 89 1/2%. It's hard to beat a team that
- 38:29does that, especially if you're behind at the end of the game.
- 38:32This team has just been able to pull away from other teams all
- 38:35year, all year. You look back all year why they
- 38:38won so much. A lot of it has to do with just
- 38:41simple things like free throw shooting and just doing what
- 38:44you're supposed to do take make all your layups.
- 38:48We don't see a ton of missed easy bunnies by this team.
- 38:52This is what you want. Not like when you watch.
- 38:54I mean, I don't want to give too much shade to Angel Reese, but
- 38:57we know she likes to miss layups, even though she did just
- 39:00have a triple double. Java's new shirt.
- 39:01Good for her. Java's new shirt.
- 39:05Do you have an Angel reshirt Java.
- 39:07I will never have an. Angel No, no.
- 39:10What did you say? You bought the shirt that mocked
- 39:12her or whatever it was. Oh no, I got the me bounds.
- 39:16I got that one. The me bounds yeah, do you see
- 39:18that video speedy of her on TikTok saying like I don't know
- 39:21who just said that, but I'll take all the me bounds we bounds
- 39:24she bounds whatever give me all the bounds.
- 39:26Like OK, that's an interesting way to I don't like how thin her
- 39:30skin is with some of this stuff. She probably shouldn't be doing
- 39:33it. But again, kids these days, 22
- 39:36years old, 23, it's all about being an influencer.
- 39:39We saw that with Chador Sanders. Maybe she's kind of like that
- 39:42too, a little bit getting away from her.
- 39:44Talk about her rival for a second.
- 39:46Caitlin Clark and Tyrese Halliburton seem to be best
- 39:50buddies during all this. And there's been some pretty
- 39:53hilarious memes as well, calling, you know, they they
- 39:56nicknamed him the Haliban. And there's a bunch of like, the
- 40:00Caitlin Clark and Tyrese Halliburton dressed up like
- 40:02Osama bin Laden or something like that.
- 40:05Yeah. It was just ridiculous stuff
- 40:07that people are doing. Probably Knicks fans that
- 40:08dislike them. I don't know if I dislike
- 40:11Caitlin Clark. I do not like that.
- 40:13She is friends with Tyrese Halliburton, who in my opinion,
- 40:15is now the enemy of all Knicks fans for until further notice, I
- 40:19guess Trey Young's still up there.
- 40:21I speed. I go, I go on back and forth.
- 40:22I feel like Trey. Young, I think.
- 40:23I think Halliburton is a 2 year versus A1 year sample though.
- 40:27I know, but the Trey Young stuff was so extreme at I don't know,
- 40:32they both went on WWE to to taunt the Knicks.
- 40:35Both of them did. So they got that in common.
- 40:38But the Haliban is Jake's right. That's that's an excellent
- 40:41nickname, the Haliban. But you know what I find it.
- 40:44I wanted to talk about this. I put it in our read at the
- 40:47beginning. Halliburton was named by the
- 40:50vote by the players, the most overrated player in all of
- 40:55basketball. Yeah, I would argue Trey Young
- 40:57is the most overrated player in all.
- 40:58Of basketball. I had that title in baseball.
- 41:02They like in like AMLBPA anonymous vote.
- 41:05Yep. But so, So what do you think?
- 41:09So this obviously I don't think anyone's going to be saying that
- 41:12about Halliburton anymore. But how did how did Like,
- 41:16obviously this is a motivator, right Jabba?
- 41:20I mean not, I mean, yes and no, like this was done like and you
- 41:28you understand how or why it is. It's because you get some guys
- 41:32and they don't they don't do everybody.
- 41:33Honestly, don't get me wrong, But it's like, OK, go ahead and
- 41:38tell me. But you know what?
- 41:39We're in the same damn league. So obviously I'm not that
- 41:43overrated. So I've earned my stripes to get
- 41:46here, right? And so I, I just, I, I can't say
- 41:54that it's, you guys see it a lot closer than I do being there
- 42:00with them as Knicks fans in that.
- 42:03And obviously me being tied to New York and understanding it.
- 42:08But it's, it's one of those things where I don't want
- 42:12billboard material for people. I don't because they just want
- 42:16to go shove it up your ass and be like, you know what?
- 42:18Oh, OK, I'm overrated. Boom, I just beat you.
- 42:22Sorry. Yeah.
- 42:24And then? So why are you?
- 42:25They gave enough. Of that to not only the Knicks
- 42:27fans there's a lot of Cavs fans that are thinking the same way
- 42:31with already with Halliburton. I'm sure there's plenty of other
- 42:33like more I guess Midwest rivalry type thing throughout
- 42:36the regular season that would have had that kind of thing with
- 42:38Halliburton too. It's just the way his demeanor
- 42:40is too. And I, I don't know if that
- 42:42contributed to when, when you got there, voting at the time
- 42:45job when the MLBPA was. Called you.
- 42:48I thought I found out in Oakland is where I found out.
- 42:52Java I'm pretty sure. You know, do you know the
- 42:53reasons like why they would think that way though?
- 42:56Like it? Was well, yeah, because nobody,
- 42:58nobody had ever done what I'd done in New York.
- 43:01And yeah, I had great year, decent year, not a great year.
- 43:07And so that's like kind of when it came out and I was like,
- 43:09that's fine. I was like, as Pedro said, they
- 43:13don't talk about nobodies. So let's let let's be real about
- 43:18it. And so if we're, if we're doing
- 43:21it in that context, like tell me I'm overrated, I don't care.
- 43:26My paycheck goes through and you're still watching me and
- 43:29you're talking about me. So what do you want me to do?
- 43:32And I think it's again, the NBA and MLB probably a little
- 43:34different with especially you're saying the traditions,
- 43:36especially being a Yankee too, compared to like the NBA teams
- 43:39or you kind of want those extra flash and you want the extra
- 43:42headlines on you as, as our friend Errol says all the time,
- 43:46the LJA, LeBron James Association that wants to create
- 43:49offseason drama for no reason. And obviously there is that in
- 43:52baseball too. I'm not saying there isn't that,
- 43:54but I think it's especially like a kind of a mainstay now in the
- 43:57NBA. And when you have younger guys
- 43:59that are trying to be those types of instigators too,
- 44:02because I mentioned it too when we were talking about Anthony
- 44:04Edwards, like there's not a lot of those younger players that
- 44:06are as much of the LeBron types as there are in with with his
- 44:10generation. And maybe Halliburton is
- 44:13starting to get to that kind of extent.
- 44:14I don't think he actually brings it on himself like as much where
- 44:17he's saying all these like super egregious things like you're
- 44:21seeing Anthony Edwards do sometimes.
- 44:22But besides, besides, like I would say Joel Embiid, like
- 44:27there's not really as much like the last 10 years worth of these
- 44:30NBA superstars of guys that are doing that at as much as what
- 44:33Halliburton is doing. But again, there's a difference
- 44:35where Halliburton's actually putting it up and it's fuel in
- 44:38the fire. And what you've seen OKC do is
- 44:40not have any guys like talking back at him, trying to fire him
- 44:43up. And obviously he earned it with
- 44:44the buzzer beater in game one playing as well as he did.
- 44:46But it's still going to be something that OKC is taking
- 44:50into account of. We're not going to.
- 44:51We're going to make him stay humble type thing and not give
- 44:54him the extra firing up. Especially now with Game 5
- 44:57tonight at home where OKC doesn't lose very often.
- 45:00So the the thing that I always said is, you know, bench doesn't
- 45:05travel all that well. You know, you usually have your
- 45:07great performances from your bench players like Mathurin,
- 45:11like we saw in Game 3 when he put up 27 points and 22 minutes,
- 45:16one of the all time heat checks of anyone.
- 45:19And you know that he turned the tide in that game and that's why
- 45:22it's 22. But take a look at what he did
- 45:24in game four. He had eight points, right?
- 45:27He had a crucial like handful of missed foul shots because they
- 45:31knew he wasn't ready for the moment, so they fouled him.
- 45:34Doesn't matter what his percentage is during the season
- 45:36when it comes to this time of the year.
- 45:38And Jabba, you know, and out in the ninth inning during May is
- 45:42not the same as an out 9th inning during October.
- 45:44It's a big difference, right? It's a big, big difference.
- 45:48And a foul shot at this point of the year, I mean, we know it
- 45:51ruined. I remember Nick Anderson ruined
- 45:53his whole career. Like, that's a true story.
- 45:56I mean, who knows the Nick Anderson story?
- 45:58We're going to talk about the magic later tonight.
- 46:00Wasn't it a front end of a one-on-one right?
- 46:02He missed all his shots. I think it was 3 foul shots.
- 46:06Wasn't it speedy? I think so.
- 46:08He was a three pointer and he missed all three and then he
- 46:11missed another one I think as. Well, yeah, I think it was the
- 46:13front end of the one-on-one after he got fouled.
- 46:15Well. It wouldn't have been one-on-one
- 46:16because it's pro, so there wouldn't have been a one-on-one.
- 46:19So it was like. Oh no, it was in a.
- 46:20Bucket. It was an and one that he
- 46:22missed. And an and one, yeah.
- 46:23And then it was three straight foul shots and the guy like he
- 46:28got the yips and never was able to play again at that level.
- 46:31Like he went from being a star guard.
- 46:33I don't like that word. We don't ever.
- 46:36We don't ever want to hear that word.
- 46:38Ever. It hurts.
- 46:40It hurts because it happened. It happened to Chuck Knoblock,
- 46:45famously. Yankee Stadium.
- 46:47It happened it it's happened to more people than you think.
- 46:49Think about Rick Ankiel. Oh, I know.
- 46:52He could. He could throw a ball from 380
- 46:54feet, but he couldn't throw 60 feet, 6 inches.
- 46:56Another one that a lot of people don't know is Jared
- 46:59Salzamacchia. And he couldn't throw it back to
- 47:03the pitcher. If we all, we're all baseball
- 47:06fans in Major League Rube Baker, maybe you should get off the
- 47:10Victoria's Secret catalog and and learn that.
- 47:13And another one is Gerald Laird. If you ever watched Gerald
- 47:18Laird, he had to throw off of his opposite foot really.
- 47:23And he always double pumped. If you go watch Gerald Laird and
- 47:27I played with his brother and if you ever go watch him, he always
- 47:31threw off of his left foot. Didn't throw off of his right
- 47:34foot because he's right-handed. So you would throw off your
- 47:36right foot, right? Fascinating.
- 47:38That's wild. So he would always and if it if
- 47:42it was a foul ball or anything, he was fine.
- 47:45But if he if he was just receiving the ball and then went
- 47:50to throw, it would be his left knee up and then it would be
- 47:54like pump and then he would throw.
- 47:58It was great. It happens to a lot of people.
- 48:00That's why we don't like to hear the word.
- 48:02It's, it's a bad one. I mean, usually it's a golf
- 48:05term, right? Like a general term is it
- 48:07originates in golf where someone just they can't hit a straight
- 48:10for some reason, you know, like they're just completely out of
- 48:12it. And probably happens to a lot of
- 48:14golfers. We've seen it happen to guys
- 48:17throwing the first base. We've seen it happen to guys
- 48:20throwing, I guess to home as well as throwing back to the
- 48:22pitcher. Foul shot.
- 48:25Nick Anderson. We have an equivalent in in
- 48:28hockey or football, speedy that you could think of.
- 48:31I. I imagine a lot of kickers I
- 48:34guess. Kickers.
- 48:35Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:36Well, Vanderjack comes to mind, right?
- 48:39Yeah. And who was it?
- 48:40Gary Anderson. He was, like, perfect all year.
- 48:42Perfect all year in the playoffs and he misses it in the playoffs
- 48:45to lose, right? Which would have given him a 10
- 48:47point lead, which would have sealed the deal in that game.
- 48:48Cody Parkey, Yeah, Yep, a whole bunch of people.
- 48:53Yeah, but Cody Parkey wasn't a great kicker though.
- 48:55Like Anderson was a great kicker.
- 48:57Like Cody Parkey was probably an average kicker.
- 48:58Blair Walsh is probably the bigger modern equivalent.
- 49:00Like I've got one fell off sadly.
- 49:02What speedy this was. This was one of the worst games
- 49:07I ever watched in football history.
- 49:09It was the playoff game between the Giants and the 49ers.
- 49:12The Trey Junkin game when he couldn't snap the ball back to
- 49:15the kicker. Remember that you might.
- 49:17You were probably really young. I don't, yeah, I don't think I
- 49:19direct. Yeah, I think that was a little
- 49:20before my time. So I think it was the year after
- 49:23we went to the Super Bowl, we're playing the 49ers and it was a
- 49:26field goal is either the tire to win and all game the snaps
- 49:31weren't getting back to the the placeholder and and again, he
- 49:35just he just rolled another one. Should have been a pass
- 49:39interference on that play. I think they tackled Shockey or
- 49:41something like that in the end zone, something ridiculous like
- 49:44that. But it was absolutely terrible.
- 49:48Yeah. So you know it was.
- 49:49Don't worry, we had a Zach Diazzi to stabilize it after
- 49:52that. Well, look, game game five
- 49:55started right now, so let's just give everyone our picks and then
- 49:59we're gonna get before we get into our guests.
- 50:01He's not here yet. I don't.
- 50:03Yeah, he's in. He's.
- 50:03In right? Yeah, he's in.
- 50:04Perfect. So we're gonna get into golf.
- 50:07Clap of the day in a second, but let's just give everyone our
- 50:11picks. I think the Thunder are going to
- 50:12win this in six. But then again, I've said the
- 50:14Thunder were going to win it in five.
- 50:16I thought that they were going to be able to do this, you know,
- 50:18a little bit more handily. I think at this point in the
- 50:21series, I like what I see out of the Thunder.
- 50:24I think they may have solved this puzzle if they shoot as
- 50:26well as they did last game. I don't see any reason why they
- 50:30don't win in six. What do you got, Speedy?
- 50:32Yeah, I had Thunder in six initially.
- 50:34Again, I was surprised they lost game one.
- 50:36I was thinking it was going to be kind of more of a pattern.
- 50:38But again, we've seen it still be that way to an extent, kind
- 50:40of those closer middle scoring games.
- 50:42I think this one's probably a little lower scoring.
- 50:44We've seen a slower pace to start, but I think OKC still
- 50:46takes it to the next two. And Jabba, I'm going to go
- 50:51Thunder in seven. Thunder in seven, so we're all
- 50:55kind of doubting the Pacers and the Haliban over there,
- 50:59hopefully. The.
- 51:00Haliban. The Haliban.
- 51:02I love it. I love.
- 51:03It bad nickname. That is tonight's show.
- 51:06We made it. We got through the second ever
- 51:09fish cast. The fish cast strikes back.
- 51:12It is over on Thursday. We're going to have another
- 51:16episode of the Fish cast because Arrow is still there.
- 51:18So that one will be the return of the Fish cast.
- 51:20Yes, that'll be if you guys follow along with the Return of
- 51:23the Jedi type of motto I'm going on with here.
- 51:26If not, that's quite all right. We have Speedy.

- 52:08have, you know, more recaps of maybe the Stanley Cup Final.
- 52:11We'll wrap up before our next show.
- 52:13Maybe same thing with the NBA Finals.
- 52:14We're going to have plenty to talk about on Thursday.
