- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I look at it. Tr Trump Brown's about I
- 0:04Speaker 1: don't know. Trump Brown's so inconsistent, yea than thirty five
- 0:08Speaker 1: year old, more than Moses.
- 0:09Speaker 2: On when you and Mason, I'd probably give it to Mason.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I think Mason was a better player, but I don't
- 0:13Speaker 2: think it was like World's better.
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's not a massive gap.
- 0:16Speaker 2: We're not talking about like you know, Zach Martin here
- 0:19Speaker 2: like a good player, Jack Mason Center, definitely David Andrews
- 0:23Speaker 2: obviously left guard, Harris versus Strange. I probably give that one.
- 0:28Speaker 1: To Harris, maybe that Max's line is better, and then
- 0:31Speaker 1: I give I say Will Campbell, I say Campbell too,
- 0:34Speaker 1: But like that's so the one guy we're giving it
- 0:36Speaker 1: this year. But also so the weird thing with that
- 0:38Speaker 1: line was it took forever because that wasn't the line
- 0:41Speaker 1: from the start of the season two.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Well, if you're wondering why it's just me to kick
- 0:47Speaker 2: off the show today, it's because they're waiting on a
- 0:50Speaker 2: very popular Alex Barth, who just is needed everywhere producer
- 0:55Speaker 2: Alex these days. He's just he's so popular that we
- 0:59Speaker 2: have to wait on him, you know, to come down
- 1:02Speaker 2: here to do the show. He's got bigger fish to
- 1:05Speaker 2: fry over at the official flagship station of the New
- 1:09Speaker 2: England Patriots ninety five the sports Up. Alex will be
- 1:11Speaker 2: here in a second. He'll be along in a moment.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I believe he's on with Felger and Mass wish him
- 1:17Speaker 2: well on that endeavor. So he's going to come down
- 1:20Speaker 2: here in just a second and he'll join me here.
- 1:22Speaker 2: But that was a good open for what I wanted
- 1:27Speaker 2: to talk about off the top of the show, because
- 1:29Speaker 2: I wanted to go offensive line. You all knew I
- 1:32Speaker 2: was going to go offensive line. Let's face it, everybody
- 1:35Speaker 2: could probably see that coming from a mile away, because
- 1:38Speaker 2: you have to imagine as a guy that likes to
- 1:42Speaker 2: talk a lot about the offensive line and has had
- 1:45Speaker 2: a tough time watching the offensive line the last couple
- 1:48Speaker 2: of years around here. To have not one but two
- 1:52Speaker 2: rookies that are already pushing in the second week of
- 1:55Speaker 2: training camp for starting jobs. That's like me on Christmas More.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I got two rookie linemen that are doing this already.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I mean, this is fantastic news for me, but also
- 2:07Speaker 2: for the Patriots most importantly, and I don't think it
- 2:10Speaker 2: should be undersold how big of a development. It is
- 2:13Speaker 2: that Will Campbell and Jared Wilson in the first week
- 2:17Speaker 2: of pads here have acclimated well, have looked a part,
- 2:20Speaker 2: have looked a part of left tackle of course for
- 2:23Speaker 2: Will Campbell, and we'll get to that here in a second.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But Jared Wilson, a third round pick, not coming out
- 2:30Speaker 2: of nowhere, I wouldn't say I think that a lot
- 2:33Speaker 2: of us could have seen this coming. I didn't know
- 2:35Speaker 2: how quickly it would be for him because he only
- 2:38Speaker 2: had the one year of starting experience at Georgia and
- 2:41Speaker 2: he's only twenty two years old. But Jared Wilson rave
- 2:44Speaker 2: reviews for him, Rave reviews for his just knowledge of
- 2:51Speaker 2: the game and his technique and his athleticism, but how
- 2:55Speaker 2: quickly he's grasping things. So those are all great things
- 2:58Speaker 2: to hear for the Patriots offensive line, which we knew
- 3:02Speaker 2: was the biggest weakness on this team going into last offseason.
- 3:06Speaker 2: And if you drafted two guys that can start on
- 3:09Speaker 2: the line, that can upgrade this unit, you are in
- 3:12Speaker 2: much better shape than you were a year ago. So
- 3:16Speaker 2: that's the great news on the offensive line. We are
- 3:18Speaker 2: going to go position by a position today once Barth
- 3:21Speaker 2: eventually graces us with his presence, we will go position
- 3:24Speaker 2: by a position on the roster, and I'm told that
- 3:28Speaker 2: he's coming down right now from the ramps, so he
- 3:30Speaker 2: should be here within the next few minutes. On the roster,
- 3:35Speaker 2: just top storylines or not, we're gonna try to mention
- 3:37Speaker 2: as many players as we possibly can. I'm not going
- 3:40Speaker 2: to promise that we're gonna mention all ninety one players
- 3:43Speaker 2: on the roster. I don't know if we'll quite get there,
- 3:46Speaker 2: but we're gonna try to mention just the high level
- 3:49Speaker 2: stories but also storylines, but also the little things because
- 3:52Speaker 2: you know that we pay attention to all the details
- 3:55Speaker 2: here on Patriots Catch twenty two. So my opening takes
- 3:58Speaker 2: on the offensive line, positive development there. And you know
- 4:03Speaker 2: what I'm gonna do is, I'm actually going to read
- 4:06Speaker 2: some emails. Maybe I'll take these calls while we wait
- 4:10Speaker 2: for Barth to, you know, wander on in here at
- 4:13Speaker 2: some point. But there's a lot of offensive line questions
- 4:16Speaker 2: right in the in the emails right now, so we'll
- 4:19Speaker 2: just give it a whirl. And the first one here
- 4:22Speaker 2: is from Jeff from LA and he said, given that
- 4:24Speaker 2: we've seen multiple seen multiple cold strange seasons, and he's
- 4:29Speaker 2: yet to demonstrate that he can pass Bock at a
- 4:31Speaker 2: legitimate NFL level. I tend to root for Wallace to
- 4:33Speaker 2: win that job. As Wallace demonstrated that he might have
- 4:35Speaker 2: a higher ceiling at left guard, this assumes Wilson has
- 4:38Speaker 2: the highest ceiling at center and those two rounds to
- 4:41Speaker 2: around out their best five. Okay, I got you, Jeff.
- 4:44Speaker 2: So that's another development here on the offensive line. What
- 4:49Speaker 2: does this all mean for Cold Strange? With Jared Wilson
- 4:51Speaker 2: seeing first team reps at left guard, what does that
- 4:54Speaker 2: mean for Cold Stranger's future? Who is working with the
- 4:56Speaker 2: second unit today at center? First time we've seen cold
- 4:59Speaker 2: Strange center. Now, it should be mentioned that Garrett Bradbury
- 5:03Speaker 2: did not participate in today's practice after he got banged
- 5:07Speaker 2: up yesterday towards the end of practice.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Bradbury not out.
- 5:10Speaker 2: There today, So the Patriots moved Ben Brown to the
- 5:14Speaker 2: starting center position, and then Jared Wilson was out left
- 5:18Speaker 2: guard with Cold Strange.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Oh there he is.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Wow, Look who it is? How did it go? How
- 5:28Speaker 3: did it? How did it? God? Did everything go okay?
- 5:31Speaker 1: Up there?
- 5:31Speaker 3: For you? Zoe didn't pick on you too much? Did he?
- 5:36Speaker 4: No?
- 5:38Speaker 1: Me and are having a ton of fun. Me and
- 5:42Speaker 1: I had to do. I was on felburn, Mez, you
- 5:45Speaker 1: think after today, I'm not gonna go set the record
- 5:47Speaker 1: straight on Will Campbell.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Okay, so we'll talk about that in the second. But
- 5:51Speaker 2: my opening take, and I know to your your point there,
- 5:55Speaker 2: I know Will Campbell had a little bit of an
- 5:56Speaker 2: up and down day today, but my opening is really
- 6:00Speaker 2: down and then up right, my opening take of the show.
- 6:04Speaker 2: As a guy that loves himself some offensive line play.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I'm just so encouraged for this team and for the
- 6:12Speaker 2: offense that they might have drafted two starting caliber offensive lineman,
- 6:17Speaker 2: not just one. And for a group that last year
- 6:20Speaker 2: by every metric across the board pass blocking, run blocking
- 6:24Speaker 2: win rates PFF grades thirty second in the league, and
- 6:27Speaker 2: all of them on the offensive line. The fact that
- 6:30Speaker 2: they might have drafted two starters in the top one
- 6:34Speaker 2: hundred and Jared Wilson and Will Campbell is a huge
- 6:36Speaker 2: development for the team.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Like I don't think I can undersell how big of
- 6:39Speaker 3: a deal that.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Is for where their offensive line was they needed it and.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Not on top of that, you know, if you assume
- 6:44Speaker 2: that Jared Wilson after today now, I know Bradberry wasn't
- 6:47Speaker 2: out there, but based off the movement that they had
- 6:50Speaker 2: without Bradberry, it seems like they're looking at from left
- 6:55Speaker 2: to right, Campbell, Wilson, Bradberry on when new Moses as
- 6:59Speaker 2: their best five right now with Bradberry at center and
- 7:02Speaker 2: Wilson at left guard. So that means that four out
- 7:06Speaker 2: of five starters on the offensive line will be new
- 7:10Speaker 2: and the only incumbent holdover is the best guy from
- 7:13Speaker 2: last year, Mike Gonuenu.
- 7:15Speaker 3: So that makes sense.
- 7:16Speaker 2: If you had the worst offensive line in football, you
- 7:19Speaker 2: should have four new starters the following year. And it
- 7:22Speaker 2: appears that the Patriots are going to potentially have four
- 7:25Speaker 2: new starters the following year, which is a great sign
- 7:28Speaker 2: to me in all avenues. I want to get into
- 7:30Speaker 2: like the minutia of all of that, but that was
- 7:32Speaker 2: my opening take. Do you have an opening take?
- 7:34Speaker 1: How long are you going before I came down here?
- 7:35Speaker 3: At the best, like seven minutes maybe?
- 7:38Speaker 1: So you started you started before two thirty No?
- 7:41Speaker 3: No, no, yes you no, I did it. It's two
- 7:42Speaker 3: thirty nine and I started.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Honestly, I will say people wanted to check it out.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Ninety five Sports on YouTube Patriot Felger was actually asking me,
- 7:50Speaker 1: like some insightful offensive line.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Questions, how many plugs are you going to do for you?
- 7:53Speaker 1: I'm just saying like it was a good you would
- 7:54Speaker 1: have enjoyed it. It was a good offensive line to Okay,
- 7:56Speaker 1: what did he ask about? You know, the outside inside
- 7:59Speaker 1: move that's hard to counter. Just kind of some alignment
- 8:02Speaker 1: stuff moving between center and guard, things like that. Jared
- 8:06Speaker 1: Wilson's a good opening take. I'll say this, on a
- 8:08Speaker 1: day where the offensive line was not at its best,
- 8:12Speaker 1: Drake may might have had his best day. Yeah, which
- 8:14Speaker 1: is encouraging. He handled pressure very well. He talked earlier
- 8:18Speaker 1: in camp. I think it was like the first day
- 8:20Speaker 1: or two. He mentioned that one of his big focuses
- 8:23Speaker 1: this year is he wants to remain a passer longer.
- 8:26Speaker 1: When he scrambles, he doesn't just want touch the ball
- 8:28Speaker 1: and go. He wants to look to create downfield. He
- 8:30Speaker 1: had a few chances today. I thought when the pocket
- 8:34Speaker 1: was breaking down, whether it was one lineman losing or
- 8:36Speaker 1: just the thing kind of collapsing, to scramble, and it
- 8:39Speaker 1: wouldn't have necessarily been the wrong decision, but it wouldn't
- 8:43Speaker 1: have been the best decision, and instead he kept his
- 8:45Speaker 1: eyes downfield. The Kyle Williams touchdown was one of them
- 8:47Speaker 1: where the pocket kind of came in a little bit,
- 8:49Speaker 1: reset his feet, boom downfield, forty yard touchdown. So the
- 8:53Speaker 1: other thing I liked about Drake May today there were
- 8:55Speaker 1: a lot of days at the start of camp where
- 8:58Speaker 1: it was Drake May. And this is an offense take,
- 9:01Speaker 1: not just Drake May. I guess you know, Drake Man,
- 9:03Speaker 1: the offense started rough, but bounce back. You know, started
- 9:06Speaker 1: slow but made up for it. And look, you want
- 9:08Speaker 1: to see him bounce back. That's good, that's obviously good,
- 9:10Speaker 1: but especially for a team that started slow at times
- 9:13Speaker 1: last year, you want to kind of see him start
- 9:15Speaker 1: straw right. Instead of Drake May having a bounce back day,
- 9:18Speaker 1: it was where is the day that we're just like, hey,
- 9:20Speaker 1: Drake May was good wired to wire? He was good.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I think Drake May was good wired to wire today.
- 9:25Speaker 1: That happens to be on the day where the offensive
- 9:27Speaker 1: line gave him probably the least help they've given him
- 9:29Speaker 1: all summer.
- 9:29Speaker 2: So I like that take as well. I what I
- 9:33Speaker 2: am most encouraged about with Drake May right now is
- 9:38Speaker 2: his timing in structure within the offense.
- 9:40Speaker 3: It doesn't look like a guy that is learning a
- 9:43Speaker 3: new offer.
- 9:43Speaker 1: He looks very comfortable.
- 9:44Speaker 2: He looks very comfortable, he looks confident in his reads.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He's making good decisions with the football. I don't want
- 9:50Speaker 2: to jinx some solid knock on some wood. He has
- 9:52Speaker 2: yet to throw an interception in this training camp. He
- 9:55Speaker 2: had one dropped like this second pass. But I's been great.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I didn't see him get lucky a little bit. But
- 10:00Speaker 2: he has yet to throw a true interception to the defense.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Well, I think that in camp. Yet I bring that
- 10:05Speaker 1: play up because again that was his what second third
- 10:07Speaker 1: throw camp? Yes, he really hasn't even put them. Don't
- 10:09Speaker 1: even know how many times he's been lucky since then, hasn't.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Put I want to say that there's one for sure
- 10:15Speaker 2: that Jail Pepper has dropped like the first.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Day cap was like the second or third throw.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and then there's maybe one other one that I
- 10:21Speaker 2: can remember off the top of my head where I
- 10:23Speaker 2: think Robert Splaine might have had two hands on one
- 10:26Speaker 2: that he it's a linebacker though, trying to make a
- 10:28Speaker 2: play on the ball. But I thought it was May
- 10:32Speaker 2: But maybe I'm this remembering it's starting to blend together
- 10:35Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Here, a little bit. I'd ask somebody would say the
- 10:37Speaker 1: week it was today.
- 10:38Speaker 2: At the same time, if I told you was worth
- 10:42Speaker 2: seven practices in now seven practices, that Drake May hasn't
- 10:47Speaker 2: thrown an interception yet in camp, you would ask, you'd
- 10:51Speaker 2: either be over the moon excited or the one like
- 10:54Speaker 2: negative Nancy take that you could have would be like, well,
- 10:56Speaker 2: is he throwing the ball down checking it down? Yeah,
- 10:59Speaker 2: he's checking it down, he's being conservative, YadA, YadA, YadA. Well,
- 11:02Speaker 2: today he threw a absolute dime to Kyle Williams for
- 11:07Speaker 2: about a forty yard touchdown on a go route down
- 11:10Speaker 2: the right sideline, like going away from the hill on
- 11:14Speaker 2: the Patriots practice facility. That would have been pff markstacting
- 11:18Speaker 2: down as a big time throw instantly, right, that's a
- 11:21Speaker 2: real time.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Big time throw. He had one of those today.
- 11:25Speaker 2: He drove another one down the field to Stefan Diggs
- 11:29Speaker 2: today on a cross or that was another muddied pocket
- 11:31Speaker 2: like you were talking about, where I thought he was
- 11:33Speaker 2: stared down the barrel stood in there, made the throw.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Now he's in a red jersey and he knows they're
- 11:38Speaker 2: not actually gonna hit him, but still he still stood
- 11:40Speaker 2: in there. There's a free runner right in his face
- 11:43Speaker 2: and he just drilled it right to Stefan Diggs. So
- 11:45Speaker 2: my point being is that I don't think he's being
- 11:48Speaker 2: ultra conservative. I do think there are moments where he's
- 11:50Speaker 2: pushing the ball down.
- 11:51Speaker 1: It was just that one day. Besides that, it's it's
- 11:54Speaker 1: bitten fully at.
- 11:55Speaker 3: His disposal and he is he has looked on the hole.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I think the only thing you know, we go into
- 12:01Speaker 2: I wanted to get into. I really I just love
- 12:04Speaker 2: the variabel, the good, the bad, and the in the
- 12:06Speaker 2: s that gets you bleep line.
- 12:08Speaker 3: That's what we can't swear on here. That is a
- 12:10Speaker 3: I might be able.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I got adjusted, well, the coach said it, I got
- 12:12Speaker 1: adjust from from swearing.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Was fantastic, fantastic way of looking at a great line
- 12:17Speaker 2: from the head coach. The bad for Drake may has
- 12:21Speaker 2: been those occasional sprays that you'll see time and time,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and you know, every time, every so often, try to
- 12:29Speaker 2: get those words out. Every so often you'll see you know,
- 12:31Speaker 2: he had one yesterday where he had Hunter Henry. It
- 12:34Speaker 2: looked like he had him in the corner of the
- 12:35Speaker 2: end zone for a touchdown and he sailed it.
- 12:37Speaker 3: He had one.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Uh you know, just on occasion, he'll have those. But
- 12:42Speaker 2: that's just to me, that's just the bad Like that's
- 12:44Speaker 2: not that doesn't get you beat. Like the turnovers get
- 12:47Speaker 2: you beat.
- 12:47Speaker 1: As long as you're not doing it on third down, fine,
- 12:49Speaker 1: but the turnovers get your beat. Sure, Uh, you know,
- 12:52Speaker 1: the the strings of incompletions will get your beat. If
- 12:55Speaker 1: you can't move the ball at all, you're obviously going
- 12:57Speaker 1: to get beat. We're not seeing any of that kind
- 12:59Speaker 1: of stuff. We're seeing the occasional spray from Drake May,
- 13:04Speaker 1: which is customary of his skill set and his positives
- 13:08Speaker 1: and negatives as a player. We are also seeing, i
- 13:11Speaker 1: would say, from Drake, which I really like. We're seeing
- 13:14Speaker 1: a lot of things that involve his mobility, whether he's
- 13:19Speaker 1: going to have the option to run, whether they're moving
- 13:21Speaker 1: the pocket, the pob Douglas throw obviously with you know,
- 13:25Speaker 1: out of structure, off platform, those types of things. But
- 13:29Speaker 1: the main thing that I keep coming back to though,
- 13:32Speaker 1: because I've read some other reports, because this time of
- 13:35Speaker 1: year sometimes like all thirty one teams love their team
- 13:38Speaker 1: or all thirty two, I see other thirty one. Teams
- 13:40Speaker 1: love their team, right, everybody's going to win the Super
- 13:42Speaker 1: Bowl on July thirtieth. You know, the rookies look great,
- 13:47Speaker 1: the quarterback looks great, the coaching staff looks great. If
- 13:51Speaker 1: you go read some of the things about some of
- 13:53Speaker 1: the other younger quarterbacks in the league that have changed
- 13:56Speaker 1: coaching staffs and have changed hands in terms of systems
- 13:59Speaker 1: and coordinated, a lot of those guys are going through
- 14:02Speaker 1: some growing paints of learning a new system. Like Ben
- 14:05Speaker 1: Johnson was talking about Caleb Williams openly playing slower than
- 14:09Speaker 1: they would like mentally. It's been like kind of a
- 14:11Speaker 1: mess with that, right, Yeah, playing slower at the helm.
- 14:15Speaker 1: We'll do that another time.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And I don't see that with Drake. I don't see
- 14:20Speaker 2: him playing slower. No, I don't see him having trouble
- 14:23Speaker 2: with processing or decision making or whatever the case may be.
- 14:26Speaker 1: No, what that's great. We saw it in the spring,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and that's okay because he was going to learn it right,
- 14:31Speaker 1: But it's it's a credit to him and the coaching
- 14:33Speaker 1: staff that they've they've gotten on the same page as
- 14:35Speaker 1: quickly as they have.
- 14:36Speaker 3: So that's encouraging.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I like what we're seeing out of the McDaniels, saying
- 14:40Speaker 2: after Vrabel made fun of friend Mike Giarready this morning
- 14:44Speaker 2: about talking about the plays of practice, I'll be a
- 14:46Speaker 2: little bit careful, but I like what we've seen from
- 14:50Speaker 2: McDaniels and what they're gonna do now. It looks similar
- 14:54Speaker 2: like it's the Josh McDaniels offense. Like they don't run
- 14:56Speaker 2: fool yourself. This is not a wholesale change of what
- 15:00Speaker 2: they're doing, you know, in terms of the offense or
- 15:03Speaker 2: in terms of the passing game in particular, I think
- 15:05Speaker 2: the drop back passing game is pretty much carbon copy
- 15:07Speaker 2: of what they used to do. But with that said,
- 15:10Speaker 2: you know, like we've talked about in the past, they
- 15:11Speaker 2: do have a mobile quarterback. Now they have a guy
- 15:14Speaker 2: that's a dual threat. We're seeing some movement pockets, We're
- 15:17Speaker 2: seeing some options with his legs that are involved in
- 15:20Speaker 2: him as a runner being involved, especially in some of
- 15:23Speaker 2: the red zone work that we see. So it's like
- 15:25Speaker 2: the old Josh daniels offense with like a sprinkle of
- 15:29Speaker 2: mobile quarterback right Like right, that's basically what we're going
- 15:32Speaker 2: for here, which I like, I think all this is positive,
- 15:36Speaker 2: it fits, It's all great. Now, that doesn't mean everything's great.
- 15:39Speaker 2: We're gonna get to some of those things that I
- 15:41Speaker 2: don't feel are not so great about what's happening. But
- 15:44Speaker 2: Drake May, Josh McDaniels, the two rookies on the offensive line,
- 15:50Speaker 2: I think these are all you have to come away
- 15:52Speaker 2: feeling positive about it.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And you may have already touched on it just to
- 15:54Speaker 1: get on the same page as you With Jared Wilson, Yes,
- 15:57Speaker 1: he's starting left guard now, right.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Unless he does something to lose the job. I don't
- 16:02Speaker 3: see why do you think.
- 16:03Speaker 1: That's more because they think he's better at left guards
- 16:07Speaker 1: because of the two fumbled snaps early on.
- 16:09Speaker 2: It's a combination, I think, on one hand, so it's
- 16:14Speaker 2: not just that, right, we do this all the time,
- 16:16Speaker 2: like they might like Bradbury more than they're like Strange
- 16:20Speaker 2: it so.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I guess that's what I'm asking. Is this okay, Bradbury's
- 16:24Speaker 1: better than Strange or is it Wilson's better at guard
- 16:27Speaker 1: than center? So what do you think is more driving here?
- 16:30Speaker 2: The way that I look at it from Wilson's perspective
- 16:33Speaker 2: alone is that as a rookie, not only is the
- 16:39Speaker 2: center would be a rookie, a twenty two year old rookie.
- 16:43Speaker 2: By the way, you would also have a twenty two
- 16:45Speaker 2: year old quarterback in his second season standing behind him. Yeah,
- 16:48Speaker 2: and in baseball they call what the battery, right, like
- 16:51Speaker 2: the catcher in the pitcher, like the battery of like
- 16:53Speaker 2: the center in the quarterback.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I think it is also called that in football.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Being both like under twenty three years old and both
- 17:01Speaker 2: first and second year players in the league, it's just
- 17:04Speaker 2: a lot to ask out of the gate for Jared
- 17:07Speaker 2: Wilson to be a starting center in the league with
- 17:10Speaker 2: really only one year of starting experience in college at
- 17:13Speaker 2: center at Georgia at his age, with a young quarterback.
- 17:18Speaker 2: So having Bradbury in there at center to just be
- 17:21Speaker 2: a veteran voice and have that veteran experience, I think
- 17:25Speaker 2: they're probably thinking that's gonna help Drake a lot.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Well, so then here's my well, you do still have
- 17:31Speaker 1: the two rookies on the left side there, here's my
- 17:32Speaker 1: second part of that. Cole Strange would only played guard
- 17:35Speaker 1: in this camp to this point. Garrett Bradbury goes down,
- 17:39Speaker 1: that's the center. Okay, you don't want Jared Wilson at center.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Ben Brown becomes the starting center, Cole Strange goes from
- 17:47Speaker 1: being the top guard to the backup center. Yes, Like,
- 17:51Speaker 1: do they do you think they don't trust Cole strangers center?
- 17:54Speaker 2: Well, haven't seen it, so it'd be hard to trust
- 17:56Speaker 2: him because they haven't seen him saw last year. They
- 17:58Speaker 2: saw it on tape last year, but they haven't. They
- 18:00Speaker 2: haven't seen.
- 18:00Speaker 1: They having hands on yet.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and in their system.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I just I just thought that was notable because I
- 18:04Speaker 1: remember I was talking to Fort Camp like, don't write
- 18:06Speaker 1: off Ben Brown. A lot of people wrote him off.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I am not writing off Ben Brown.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm not right off Ben, He's said yesterday.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I'm pu that I'm not ruling out Jared Wilson and
- 18:16Speaker 2: Brenton Brown as your center depth chart.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I'm not ruling it out.
- 18:22Speaker 1: What do you so I'm not. I'm not saying I
- 18:24Speaker 1: have that's hit No Geart Bradbury, that's it. I'm not
- 18:26Speaker 1: saying I have any Ben. So that would mean Ben
- 18:28Speaker 1: Brown is the starter. Then if they like Jared will
- 18:32Speaker 1: adding to that take with today.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Or Jared Wilson eventually becomes the starting center and then
- 18:38Speaker 2: they throw somebody else in.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Card I get what you're saying.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not ruling it out. That's just me talking.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I said this, I wonder if Garrett Bradbury, because you
- 18:46Speaker 1: see this sometimes the guys first round pick seven years
- 18:48Speaker 1: all as a starter in this league, is he going
- 18:51Speaker 1: to sit here and back up a rookie or will
- 18:53Speaker 1: he say, you know, I want to go somewhere because
- 18:55Speaker 1: you know, players get hurt and stuff. Lisa, I want
- 18:57Speaker 1: to go somewhere. I have a chance to start.
- 18:59Speaker 2: If you had to ask me today, I still the
- 19:02Speaker 2: five isolated out. Yeah, Campbell, Wilson, Bradbury on one who
- 19:05Speaker 2: moses feels like the group today?
- 19:08Speaker 3: Yeah, long way to go.
- 19:09Speaker 1: But if they do even if they do that, I
- 19:11Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if they keep Ben Brown. Oh yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 1: because they don't want to move Wilson. Right now, you're
- 19:17Speaker 1: scares talk about this, Billy's talk about this. You essentially
- 19:20Speaker 1: have two backups in because Jared Wilson is your backup center,
- 19:22Speaker 1: Well you also have a backup guard. That was the
- 19:24Speaker 1: other thing I was going to say to you.
- 19:25Speaker 2: We were on the same page here. Dante Scarnekio would
- 19:29Speaker 2: tell you, if you want the rookie to be at
- 19:32Speaker 2: left guard, you keep Jared Wilson at left guard, and
- 19:35Speaker 2: you put Ben Brown at center, because then when Bradbury
- 19:37Speaker 2: comes back, but.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Ben Brown for today's practice, why not cold Stranger at center?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Why Why does Ben Brown get the bump over Cold Strange?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Unless they don't believe in strangers the center.
- 19:48Speaker 2: They don't either don't believe in strangers the center, or
- 19:50Speaker 2: they simply just felt like Ben Brown was better equipped
- 19:52Speaker 2: to do.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I think their top lineman, like, if we're gonna do
- 19:55Speaker 1: a little mini Ross projection type thing here, right, Moses Wilson,
- 20:00Speaker 1: brad Berry if he's healthy? Own when who in Campbell? Right? Yes,
- 20:05Speaker 1: Demontree Jacobs is clearly the back top backup tackle Cole
- 20:09Speaker 1: Strange in Ben Brown that gets you to eight usually
- 20:13Speaker 1: carry nine right, nine or ten. So the only thing
- 20:16Speaker 1: with that group is you don't have a backup left tackle. Now,
- 20:18Speaker 1: I don't know who that's gonna be. And that's a
- 20:20Speaker 1: whole other conversation.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Until Valarian Low gets out there and we start to
- 20:24Speaker 2: see anything from him, I don't know how you could
- 20:26Speaker 2: know it's gonna.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So well, Venerian law or some sort of backup tackle
- 20:30Speaker 1: like that feels like the group Laydon Robinson's still buried.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Oh no, no, no, no, no, sorry no. Kiten Wallace has been
- 20:37Speaker 1: with the talk group. Kan Wallace is in the mix
- 20:38Speaker 1: there left at left guard. But I'm saying like, if
- 20:42Speaker 1: we were to count that group, so it's Campbell, Wilson, yes,
- 20:47Speaker 1: Brad Burry, Moses, and then your top backups are Strange, Wallace, uh,
- 20:56Speaker 1: Montre Jacobs, Demontree Jacobs, and now Ben Brown. So that's nine.
- 20:59Speaker 1: So if you carry a tenth left tackle, just maybe
- 21:03Speaker 1: Cole Strange right well, if he's not going to be
- 21:04Speaker 1: the starting guard and we have Jared Wilson and Kane
- 21:07Speaker 1: Wallas gonna be the backup guard, is that leave Cole
- 21:08Speaker 1: Strange on the outside looking in. I feel like the
- 21:11Speaker 1: just Demantra Jacobs gets bumped if they find a swing tackle.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Out of that group. I think the question comes down
- 21:16Speaker 3: to two things. What can you do?
- 21:19Speaker 2: You feel feel like you can get Ben Brown to
- 21:21Speaker 2: the practice squad. I'm iffy on that.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I don't a guy that started with ten eleven games,
- 21:26Speaker 1: but most people don't carry Most teams don't carry backup
- 21:29Speaker 1: centers that don't have any any flexibility to play guard.
- 21:32Speaker 3: That's true at one position. Backup at center is pretty rare,
- 21:36Speaker 3: but can you get Ben.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Brown though it's not McDaniels has done it.
- 21:41Speaker 3: The other question is.
- 21:44Speaker 2: What are they doing at tackle outside of the Mantre
- 21:47Speaker 2: Jacobs to back up their starters. So, in my opinion
- 21:51Speaker 2: that the way you just laid out, Yeah, Cole Strange
- 21:55Speaker 2: being on the outside looking in, so that of Adarian
- 21:57Speaker 2: Lowe or a Marcus Bryant or a fourth tackle makes
- 22:01Speaker 2: the team would make the most sense.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Unless it's so to me, it's either then Brown's the
- 22:06Speaker 1: odd man out because he can only play center, but
- 22:09Speaker 1: I don't hate them keeping a center only player in
- 22:13Speaker 1: this offense because it's so complex. Cole Stranger is the
- 22:17Speaker 1: odd man out because he can only play left guard, yes,
- 22:20Speaker 1: or Demantra Jacobs being the odd man out because they
- 22:22Speaker 1: find a swing tackle so they don't need him now
- 22:24Speaker 1: because they have guys who play left and right, and
- 22:26Speaker 1: Caden Walls in a pinch, can play right tackle if
- 22:28Speaker 1: you need him to. I think at this point they
- 22:30Speaker 1: view him primarily as a guard. But he's done it.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I think if it, you know in game, you'd go
- 22:35Speaker 1: down to your fourth tackle. Okay, we can throw Kayden
- 22:37Speaker 1: Wallace out there for the rest of the day and
- 22:39Speaker 1: then you add another you know, tackle in the in
- 22:42Speaker 1: before your next game kind of thing. I'm interested, but
- 22:44Speaker 1: that that kind of feels like, yeah, you know, I
- 22:47Speaker 1: don't think Layton Robinson's in the mix. City s got
- 22:50Speaker 1: hurt today.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Those two guys I don't think are in.
- 22:53Speaker 1: The Yeah, they don't seem like they. He didn't seem
- 22:54Speaker 1: that he was in the mix before he got hurt.
- 22:56Speaker 1: You see her Durant didn't really look Marcus Bryants would
- 22:59Speaker 1: probably be the next guy up. And maybe it's can
- 23:01Speaker 1: Marcus Bryant beat out Demntre Jacobs because he is a
- 23:04Speaker 1: swing tackle. He can play at least in theory. He's
- 23:07Speaker 1: got to prove it in theory he can play both sides.
- 23:09Speaker 1: And now you don't keep Jacobs, you'd keep Marcus Bryant.
- 23:13Speaker 1: He's going to back up both tackle spots. And there
- 23:14Speaker 1: you go.
- 23:15Speaker 3: So a couple of things I want to unpack.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Let's just stick on the offensive line for now, because
- 23:19Speaker 2: that's where we started anyways, and I feel like we
- 23:22Speaker 2: talked enough about where Drake is at. A couple of
- 23:26Speaker 2: things I want to talk about at tackle. Let's just
- 23:29Speaker 2: go to Will Campbell now. Yeah, So here's my take
- 23:33Speaker 2: on Will Campbell. I personally believe that Will Campbell has
- 23:39Speaker 2: come as advertised because coming into this when he was
- 23:44Speaker 2: drafted and if you watched him at LSU and you
- 23:47Speaker 2: listen to US or other programs during the draft, but
- 23:50Speaker 2: hopefully US during the draft, we talked about elite college
- 23:55Speaker 2: run blocker. So so pass protector has some warts as
- 23:59Speaker 2: a past protector that he needs to die now.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Specifically that outside inside.
- 24:04Speaker 3: To me, that's exactly how it's been.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yep.
- 24:06Speaker 2: And I will just say this because I have to
- 24:09Speaker 2: be a little bit positive about my guy.
- 24:12Speaker 3: It has been a like, honestly a pleasure to watch
- 24:15Speaker 3: that man run block.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Like is he's ferocious.
- 24:18Speaker 2: It's incredible, It's un it's awesome. It is awesome to
- 24:22Speaker 2: watch that man run block like we're we're talking about
- 24:26Speaker 2: like forget about like the physicality and the finish, because
- 24:28Speaker 2: oh that's great, right, but everybody can throw their weight around,
- 24:31Speaker 2: Like if you're six six, three hundred and thirty pounds,
- 24:33Speaker 2: you can throw your weight around that that that stands with,
- 24:36Speaker 2: you know, without mentioning his ability to work up to
- 24:39Speaker 2: the second level, he is on the second level in
- 24:42Speaker 2: an instant. His down blocks cave in the line of scrimmage,
- 24:45Speaker 2: like he's literally taken out guys on the line of
- 24:48Speaker 2: scrimmage already down blocking.
- 24:50Speaker 1: He's got Fulda mill Williams over twice in that first
- 24:52Speaker 1: patter pe.
- 24:53Speaker 2: He's got the reach in the and you know, the
- 24:57Speaker 2: athleticism to reach landmarks on the front side of run plays,
- 25:00Speaker 2: whether he's sealing the edge to get the you know
- 25:02Speaker 2: to on a toss play, or he's front side reaching
- 25:06Speaker 2: on outside zone to hook the edge, you know, to
- 25:08Speaker 2: get that corner for the running back.
- 25:11Speaker 3: He finishes, He's nasty, he's physical, he moves people.
- 25:16Speaker 2: He is a day one I would say almost good
- 25:21Speaker 2: to maybe potentially great run blocker, like right out of
- 25:24Speaker 2: the gate. So with that with Jared Wilson, who I
- 25:28Speaker 2: also think is a very athletic and could excel as
- 25:31Speaker 2: a run blocker, and then what you got brewing on
- 25:33Speaker 2: the right side, with Morgan Moses and Mike on Wenhu.
- 25:36Speaker 2: I am really optimistic that they're going to be able
- 25:39Speaker 2: to run block and there might actually be able to
- 25:42Speaker 2: have a productive, effective running game. And we argue all
- 25:47Speaker 2: the time about the importance of that, but I think
- 25:49Speaker 2: the main thing to me, the big takeaway is if
- 25:53Speaker 2: you can run the ball, the things that you can
- 25:55Speaker 2: do off the run game are just as important as
- 25:58Speaker 2: actually running the ball right. So if you can come
- 26:00Speaker 2: into games and teams.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Oh my, did Evan just suggests running sets up the pass.
- 26:04Speaker 2: If teams have to respect the fact that you can,
- 26:08Speaker 2: they can come off the ball and they can get
- 26:12Speaker 2: Mike on Winnu and Morgan Moses on the double team,
- 26:15Speaker 2: and they can move some bodies right and they can
- 26:17Speaker 2: run to the left side with actual range and athleticism
- 26:22Speaker 2: with Jared Wilson and Will Campbell, you know, getting up
- 26:24Speaker 2: to the second level, or like I said, you know
- 26:26Speaker 2: hooking the outside, reaching the front side of a play
- 26:29Speaker 2: to get the corner, you know, Trayvon Henderson, scooting around
- 26:32Speaker 2: the edge like they can do all those things. Now
- 26:34Speaker 2: you can play action. Now you can boot, you can
- 26:36Speaker 2: move the pocket off of that. That's how you can
- 26:39Speaker 2: protect the quarterback. And not only are you protecting the quarterback,
- 26:42Speaker 2: but you're protecting the pass protection as well, because you're
- 26:45Speaker 2: doing these things schematically that give the defense pause and
- 26:49Speaker 2: and force the defense to respect the run and respect
- 26:51Speaker 2: the actions in the backfield. All of these things limit
- 26:56Speaker 2: the true pass sets that you see from from the
- 26:58Speaker 2: tackles right like the actual drop back passing game, which
- 27:02Speaker 2: will allow you to maybe protect those tackles a little
- 27:05Speaker 2: bit if they are a little bit weaker. Because I
- 27:07Speaker 2: think Moses has had his issues too at right tackle
- 27:10Speaker 2: and pass protection as well. So so let me just
- 27:12Speaker 2: get to stra all of these things. I'm like, I'm
- 27:15Speaker 2: like a kid on Christmas, like this is awesome.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Let me just get this straight. Yes, you're talking about
- 27:19Speaker 1: the run setting up the pass.
- 27:20Speaker 3: For now, it's not where I want to be. It's
- 27:23Speaker 3: not like the end goal. It's not the end.
- 27:25Speaker 1: But you're acknowledging the run can set up the pass.
- 27:27Speaker 1: That whole argument we had this week are about me
- 27:29Speaker 1: saying being tough on the line of scrimmage and pushing
- 27:32Speaker 1: the defense around initially can benefit you later in the game.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I am acknowledging that run actions mean more than just
- 27:40Speaker 2: running the football. You can run the ball and then
- 27:44Speaker 2: you can action off of that. Whether it's play action
- 27:48Speaker 2: is whether it's.
- 27:48Speaker 1: That run action going to be as effective as the
- 27:50Speaker 1: defense can respect it as much. If you don't prove
- 27:52Speaker 1: you can run the ball out right, No, it's not.
- 27:56Speaker 2: No, it's not I'll concede that point to today because
- 28:00Speaker 2: I'm excited and I'm going to allow myself to be excited.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Excited about the Patriots ability to run to set up
- 28:06Speaker 1: the pass.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I am excited about their running game mark the Dayton time.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I think their offensive line is built for it. I
- 28:11Speaker 2: think their offensive line is built to be able to
- 28:13Speaker 2: run the ball. I think they have backs. I think
- 28:16Speaker 2: Rimandra Stevenson and Trevion Henderson are going to be bad
- 28:19Speaker 2: in factor backs we talked about we will in a second.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I think they're gonna be able to run the football.
- 28:27Speaker 2: And Josh has always been able to run the football,
- 28:29Speaker 2: So I think they're gonna be.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Able to run it.
- 28:31Speaker 1: You got to get it, got to get a new fullback,
- 28:32Speaker 1: got figure out what's happening there.
- 28:34Speaker 2: But I think they're gonna be able to run the ball. Which, again,
- 28:37Speaker 2: if you're only if you're running the ball and your
- 28:39Speaker 2: play actioning, and that's like your base offense, like that's
- 28:42Speaker 2: your first and second down offense. Now you're whittling down
- 28:45Speaker 2: those like true past protection reps where the guys are
- 28:49Speaker 2: on islands at tackle and things like that. Now it's
- 28:52Speaker 2: only like situational, it's only third down. It's only two minutes, Like,
- 28:56Speaker 2: you're not doing that for the entire game, where guys
- 28:58Speaker 2: are just teeing off on Cam and Moses for four
- 29:01Speaker 2: straight couarders. You can stay ahead of the chains, you
- 29:03Speaker 2: can stay in the game on the scoreboard, and you
- 29:05Speaker 2: don't have to put those guys expose them to like
- 29:09Speaker 2: thirty pass sets per game. That's better that you can
- 29:14Speaker 2: work with that. Now, that's not to excuse the fact
- 29:17Speaker 2: or to like to hide from the fact that Will
- 29:20Speaker 2: Campbell's pass protection in practice so far has been a
- 29:24Speaker 2: mixed bag.
- 29:25Speaker 3: There's no doubt about that.
- 29:26Speaker 1: On the true pass sets, yes, he's been fighting, holding
- 29:29Speaker 1: up on the play actions and stuff like the true
- 29:31Speaker 1: it's really that, I know people don't like it when
- 29:33Speaker 1: we bring this up, but I'm going to bring it up.
- 29:36Speaker 1: The Drake may Fore interception practice in the spring, Yes,
- 29:39Speaker 1: it was four picks and six throws, and then he
- 29:42Speaker 1: was fine after that. This was like he allowed to
- 29:45Speaker 1: sacks today and a pressure is in the span of
- 29:48Speaker 1: like four snaps, right, And then I thought the rest
- 29:50Speaker 1: of the day he was fine. There was nothing glaring.
- 29:54Speaker 1: So it's just it's concerning because it wasn't such a
- 29:56Speaker 1: short window and he's beat on that same move. That's
- 29:58Speaker 1: what I want to ask you to go back to
- 29:59Speaker 1: what we're talking about, amble and kind of coming as advertised.
- 30:02Speaker 1: We knew I mean the arm length thing aside, and
- 30:05Speaker 1: I guess it's loosely related to the arm length. But
- 30:09Speaker 1: how do you how do we knew we need to
- 30:11Speaker 1: get better at that outside in move and just protecting
- 30:14Speaker 1: the inside right? How do you like? What is the
- 30:16Speaker 1: coaching point? What do we look for to see he's
- 30:20Speaker 1: improved other than just okay, he's blocking it? Like, what
- 30:23Speaker 1: do we look for to see how does he adjust
- 30:25Speaker 1: to being better against that move?
- 30:26Speaker 3: So if we.
- 30:29Speaker 2: If we go class glass half empty on this and
- 30:33Speaker 2: we tie it to the arm length, which it could
- 30:36Speaker 2: be tied, it.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Is loosely related. So it's not it's not his arms
- 30:40Speaker 1: are too short he can't reach out there, but.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I think it is so most of the time when
- 30:46Speaker 2: this happens, it's because he'll face like a guy like
- 30:49Speaker 2: Chase on ur s Winston who's got some speed off
- 30:52Speaker 2: the edge, and in order for him to get his
- 30:55Speaker 2: hands on those types of guys, he might need to
- 30:58Speaker 2: take an extra be he leans a little bit right
- 31:01Speaker 2: to get out there because he doesn't have the length
- 31:04Speaker 2: to just reach him. So he's over compensating, right, he's
- 31:09Speaker 2: reaching out further to the outside and he's getting his
- 31:12Speaker 2: weight over here. And then they're just swimming across inside
- 31:16Speaker 2: back inside. So all of these things could be tied.
- 31:19Speaker 2: If you want to be glass half empty about it,
- 31:22Speaker 2: they could be tied to the arm light. Now, how
- 31:24Speaker 2: do you work around that? I think it's there's two ways. Obviously,
- 31:29Speaker 2: every guy inside outside you want to set inside out.
- 31:33Speaker 2: You want to protect the inside first and make the
- 31:35Speaker 2: guy go the long way home.
- 31:37Speaker 1: And he has done a good job. He does this
- 31:38Speaker 1: against Keon White today when he gets beat outside initially
- 31:42Speaker 1: he has good recovery. Yeah, so he can. It's not perfect,
- 31:46Speaker 1: but and I was talking to Felgrin Maz about this.
- 31:49Speaker 1: I don't know. I didn't even mean to plug it again.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Something that great offensive lineman can do. And
- 31:55Speaker 1: you can speak to this better than me. But it's
- 31:57Speaker 1: just kind of how I've always felt. Nobody goes a
- 32:00Speaker 1: whole season without getting beat. You're gonna get beat. The
- 32:02Speaker 1: greats get beat a handful of times. But there's getting beat,
- 32:05Speaker 1: and there's getting beat right, you can kind of lose.
- 32:08Speaker 3: The rep today against Bandon Swinston.
- 32:09Speaker 1: So that was a blowby, right, that was not just
- 32:11Speaker 1: to beat those blowby like being better at getting beat
- 32:15Speaker 1: initially and then recovering and kind of making it so okay.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Drake has to like getting beat, so Drake has to
- 32:22Speaker 1: step up and reset versus getting beat. So Drake gets
- 32:25Speaker 1: out right sacked are obviously two different things, sure, and
- 32:29Speaker 1: so I think there's some of that where like if
- 32:31Speaker 1: you get when he's getting beat to the outside, it's
- 32:34Speaker 1: not it's not like leading the sacks, it's just kind
- 32:37Speaker 1: of moving the pocket, right.
- 32:38Speaker 2: So what I see from him is that in order
- 32:42Speaker 2: for him to reach those out those high side rushers,
- 32:45Speaker 2: those guys that are testing his edge with speed, he's
- 32:48Speaker 2: got to be aggressive. And so he comes with both
- 32:51Speaker 2: hands and he just wants to fire his hands because
- 32:53Speaker 2: he wants to end the rep as quickly as possible.
- 32:55Speaker 2: He's got great grip strength and great base power, so
- 32:58Speaker 2: if he gets his hands on you, the rep is over.
- 33:00Speaker 2: So his goal is to get his hands on people
- 33:03Speaker 2: quickly and be more aggressive. Whereas like if you're a bigger,
- 33:06Speaker 2: longer tackle, you can kind of just sit.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Back and catch guys.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Trent Brown, he is trying to go get him, and
- 33:11Speaker 2: because of that, when he whiffs, he whiffs badly. So
- 33:15Speaker 2: being more patient in his sad and kind of trusting
- 33:18Speaker 2: his feet more than anything, I think is really the
- 33:21Speaker 2: starting point of where I would think that the coaches
- 33:24Speaker 2: are out with him because he's got great athleticism and
- 33:27Speaker 2: he's got great feet. So trust the fact that you
- 33:29Speaker 2: can move your feet. Instead of coming out and getting
- 33:32Speaker 2: over extended and throwing that punch with two hands, try
- 33:36Speaker 2: to sit back a little bit more, try to be
- 33:38Speaker 2: a little bit more patient, wait it out for an
- 33:40Speaker 2: extra beat, and try to use your feet to recover.
- 33:43Speaker 3: That's what I would coach you. But I'm not Doug Muro.
- 33:45Speaker 3: I'm not offensive one. I'm not trying to pretend to be.
- 33:47Speaker 1: So that's what I would some of it too. And
- 33:50Speaker 1: I don't know how much you do this with practice,
- 33:52Speaker 1: but like just on film, this is when guys will
- 33:55Speaker 1: go to that move. This is the looks that will
- 33:57Speaker 1: come with that move, and like if you know it's coming,
- 33:59Speaker 1: you can better, Like can film help with that?
- 34:01Speaker 2: It can, especially if like a guy has a go
- 34:04Speaker 2: to move and then like a go to counter off
- 34:06Speaker 2: that move, because what's gonna end up happening my guess
- 34:09Speaker 2: is is that guys are probably going to speed speed
- 34:13Speaker 2: speed for like three quarters yea, and they'll save the
- 34:16Speaker 2: spin or the inside move until it's like a third
- 34:19Speaker 2: down in the fourth quarter and it's like a big
- 34:21Speaker 2: moment in the game. You know, Max Crosby, if he
- 34:24Speaker 2: does rush over the left side a little bit on
- 34:26Speaker 2: Will Campbell, I don't expect Max Crosby to go to
- 34:28Speaker 2: the inside move the first time he faces Will Campbell.
- 34:31Speaker 2: He'll try to sequence it together and build up to
- 34:33Speaker 2: it and then set it up for a big moment.
- 34:35Speaker 2: So there's a little bit of that like anticipation of
- 34:38Speaker 2: like when it might come as well. But the other
- 34:41Speaker 2: thing is, and I know people don't want to hear
- 34:43Speaker 2: this about a fourth overall pick, but he's a rookie
- 34:45Speaker 2: at the end of the day. There obviously are schematic
- 34:48Speaker 2: things that you can do to help him protect the
- 34:50Speaker 2: outside a little bit better. You know, you can chip,
- 34:53Speaker 2: you can put a tight end over there, give him
- 34:55Speaker 2: a little forearm, a little get a slab going over
- 34:58Speaker 2: there with Hunter Henry or Austin Hooper. You can have
- 35:00Speaker 2: the backs chip out of the backfield, and then he
- 35:02Speaker 2: can compensate for the chip right and kind of set
- 35:05Speaker 2: a little bit more to the inside anticipating the chip,
- 35:08Speaker 2: and then you can feed the player onto him so
- 35:10Speaker 2: that he's a little bit easier for him to block
- 35:12Speaker 2: the guy. I know people don't necessarily want that, like
- 35:15Speaker 2: they want him to be able to pass protect on
- 35:17Speaker 2: an island, like he's Joe Thomas. I get that, but
- 35:21Speaker 2: out of the shoot, if they have to do stuff
- 35:23Speaker 2: like that, if it's third and ten and it's a
- 35:25Speaker 2: long down and distance and the defense is going to
- 35:27Speaker 2: pin his ears back and they have to chip or
- 35:29Speaker 2: they have to help, you might have to do that.
- 35:31Speaker 1: It's not his whole career. It's things you're doing to
- 35:35Speaker 1: help him as a rookie get along while he builds
- 35:37Speaker 1: up the ability to play more on an island.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Again, I would stress to him if it were me,
- 35:41Speaker 2: I would stress to him like, you have great feet. Yeah,
- 35:44Speaker 2: you're quick, You're nimble on your feet. You can slide,
- 35:48Speaker 2: you can set out, you can mirror pass rushers, you
- 35:51Speaker 2: can recover, Like, just sit back just a little bit
- 35:55Speaker 2: longer and just trust your feet and don't be as
- 35:57Speaker 2: aggressive as he tends to get at times, and I
- 35:59Speaker 2: think he'll be all right again. Like I would still
- 36:02Speaker 2: give him a passing grade for the camp. And I
- 36:04Speaker 2: think his run blocking is like an A plus out
- 36:07Speaker 2: of the shoe.
- 36:07Speaker 1: His run blocking's legit. Yeah, it's he's again. I said
- 36:11Speaker 1: the word before, I'll say he's vicious.
- 36:13Speaker 2: So on the other side, with Morgan Moses, I'm a little.
- 36:19Speaker 3: I'm small seat concerned. Is that allowed to be said?
- 36:21Speaker 1: Uh, why are you? And then I'll say yes or no.
- 36:25Speaker 2: It's two reasons. One, I think it was better today,
- 36:29Speaker 2: so I'll give him that. Maybe maybe it was too
- 36:31Speaker 2: premature for me to jump to this conclusion. I've seen
- 36:34Speaker 2: speed give him some problems, protecting the corner against speed rushers,
- 36:39Speaker 2: getting out of really getting out of his stance, and
- 36:41Speaker 2: like getting his hands on some of those guys. I
- 36:45Speaker 2: think it's been a little bit of a problem. The
- 36:47Speaker 2: other thing is, and maybe this is just a twelve
- 36:49Speaker 2: year veteran that they're easing in and they're managing and
- 36:52Speaker 2: all that good stuff. But I can't help but think,
- 36:56Speaker 2: is he really going to play seventeen games and hopefully
- 37:01Speaker 2: for this team this year?
- 37:02Speaker 3: Like more than seventeen?
- 37:03Speaker 1: Right?
- 37:04Speaker 2: Like you're hoping that they're going to play eighteen or
- 37:05Speaker 2: nineteen games twenty Hell, let's go for it.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Is he gonna be able to do that?
- 37:10Speaker 2: And if is not a Moses problem necessarily, I mean,
- 37:13Speaker 2: the durability is a Moses problem, but he's thirty four.
- 37:16Speaker 2: It's it comes with the territory at times. You no offense.
- 37:21Speaker 2: But I don't particularly love what they have backing him up.
- 37:24Speaker 2: So like, if he's missing a month of the season,
- 37:28Speaker 2: then that's a month of Trey Jacobs, Vederian Lowe, Marcus Bryant,
- 37:33Speaker 2: whoever it is at right tackle. That's a problem that's
- 37:37Speaker 2: not good enough.
- 37:38Speaker 1: So that's not being concerned about more like I don't durability, right,
- 37:42Speaker 1: I guess yeah, No, the backup tackles. We talked this
- 37:45Speaker 1: a lot over the you know, over the off season,
- 37:48Speaker 1: like it's a question. They relatively answered their starting tackle questions.
- 37:53Speaker 1: We know who they are. At this time last year,
- 37:56Speaker 1: we had no idea who the starting left tackle is
- 37:57Speaker 1: going to be. It was either gonna be the rookie
- 37:59Speaker 1: right tackle, they were going to move over the borderline
- 38:01Speaker 1: starting right tackle they signed from Pittsburgh who got caught
- 38:03Speaker 1: who they were gonna move over or Vederian Lowe, and
- 38:06Speaker 1: then it ended up being low who I think was
- 38:08Speaker 1: like the third option there and the right tackle. We
- 38:10Speaker 1: didn't know who that was gonna be, and that guy
- 38:11Speaker 1: ended up at this time last year being on the
- 38:13Speaker 1: Denver Broncos. So it's they answered to an extent. The
- 38:19Speaker 1: starting group, it's a house of cards, like if it
- 38:23Speaker 1: is Campbell, Wilson, Bradbury owned went ww Moses. I feel
- 38:28Speaker 1: okay about that. It's not gonna be a top five
- 38:30Speaker 1: unit in the league, but I think that that's representative.
- 38:33Speaker 1: But that can fall apart real fast because you lose
- 38:36Speaker 1: one or two guys and it's the depth is not there.
- 38:40Speaker 1: And look, they had a lot of needs this offseason.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I understand why, you know, back up right tackle maybe
- 38:46Speaker 1: wasn't on the top of the list, but it's something
- 38:48Speaker 1: that probably went under address. Same on the left side.
- 38:50Speaker 1: So unless you really believe in Marcus Bryant, he's the
- 38:53Speaker 1: one guy that's kind of an unknown. So I won't
- 38:56Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say you know what you have in
- 38:57Speaker 1: him because you don't. Uh, you know, Andre Jacobs, we
- 39:00Speaker 1: know who he is. He's a career back up kind
- 39:04Speaker 1: of fringing player Darian Lowe. He runs hot and cold,
- 39:07Speaker 1: but when it's cold, it's really not good. I'm concerned
- 39:10Speaker 1: about their tackle death as the durability. He's thirty four
- 39:12Speaker 1: years old.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I mean, that shouldn't be und in hand, right, Like
- 39:16Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's news to me. I just watching
- 39:19Speaker 2: these practices and like he's in and out of practice,
- 39:22Speaker 2: and then he's in, then he's out again, then he's out, and.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So I be more worried about that if it wasn't
- 39:28Speaker 1: clear that they were making that point of emphasis for
- 39:31Speaker 1: a lot of their veterans. Right, I'm not worried about
- 39:33Speaker 1: the condition. Harold Landry's in. He got a veteran day today.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Carlon Davis will see he's been out. But like they're
- 39:38Speaker 1: kind of doing the veteran day thing for quite a
- 39:40Speaker 1: few guys. It was just and I don't know, maybe
- 39:43Speaker 1: this is a dumb way to look at it by me.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Maybe it's just being too optimistic. If it was Jess
- 39:48Speaker 1: Morgan Moses, I'd be like, oh, there's something wrong. I
- 39:50Speaker 1: kind of look at it in the fact that Vrabel's
- 39:52Speaker 1: openly talking about it. They're just kind of trying to
- 39:55Speaker 1: make sure some of their veterans are in the right
- 39:57Speaker 1: shape for the start of the season.
- 39:58Speaker 3: So he was better.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Toda, he was better, And I think he didn't rotate
- 40:03Speaker 1: with the mantra Jacobs today, right.
- 40:04Speaker 2: No, And so maybe feel a little bit better watching
- 40:07Speaker 2: him in one on ones and team I thought he'd
- 40:10Speaker 2: protected the edge a lot better today. So maybe that
- 40:13Speaker 2: you know, a lot of offensive line Bay two is
- 40:15Speaker 2: just like rhythmic and time and all that. So maybe
- 40:17Speaker 2: getting the snap counts down and getting his feet and
- 40:20Speaker 2: his like you know, reaction time and all that jargon
- 40:24Speaker 2: like down so that he can be a little bit better.
- 40:27Speaker 1: We'll say this. I don't know if it's concerned with
- 40:29Speaker 1: Morgan Moses, just something to watch for. You know how
- 40:32Speaker 1: these tackles now, like they're trying to jump the snap
- 40:35Speaker 1: the same way defensive players are trying to jump the snap.
- 40:37Speaker 3: And he does that.
- 40:38Speaker 1: That Washington game last year, they are called like five
- 40:41Speaker 1: fall starts in a row. Yeah, No, he's he's right
- 40:44Speaker 1: there trying to jump. He's gonna get called for a
- 40:47Speaker 1: few fall starts early on because that's he's that's.
- 40:51Speaker 2: That's part of like, Okay, is he doing that to
- 40:55Speaker 2: overcompensate because he's.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Not a lot. I think a lot of veteran guys
- 40:59Speaker 1: do that. I think, now that's just like the thing
- 41:01Speaker 1: to do.
- 41:01Speaker 3: They try to be smart.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Yeah, but I don't think it's a it's like a
- 41:06Speaker 1: veteran trying to compensate because what's his name, Trent Williams
- 41:10Speaker 1: does it. Yeah, but I guess he's older too. It's
- 41:12Speaker 1: bad exactly, I know.
- 41:14Speaker 2: But like I hear what you're saying. I said, I
- 41:17Speaker 2: think what more like my concern level is less about that.
- 41:21Speaker 2: I think like Morgan mos is going to be like
- 41:23Speaker 2: a bust of a signing.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's more worried about his availability.
- 41:26Speaker 2: I'm worried about his availability and the fact that they
- 41:28Speaker 2: really don't have anything that you feel good about behind him.
- 41:31Speaker 1: That's that's with a thirty four year old player. That's fair.
- 41:34Speaker 1: I think I'm more concerned. It is a dumb take.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I think I'm more concerned about what's behind him than
- 41:40Speaker 1: his durability. And I get there intertwined.
- 41:42Speaker 3: But like, right, because you only knew what's behind him
- 41:44Speaker 3: if he's hurt.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Right, but he's played at least fourteen games, yes, every
- 41:49Speaker 1: year of his career.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Right, so yes, but for a team that we're projecting
- 41:53Speaker 2: to go like eight, nine to nine to eight and
- 41:55Speaker 2: be like, right.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Those two or three games, couldn't I yeah, yeah, I
- 41:58Speaker 1: get what you're saying.
- 41:59Speaker 2: All right, So I think that's enough on the offensive line.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I think we just spent forty five minutes on the
- 42:03Speaker 2: offensive line, which is our show. And that's not surprising.
- 42:06Speaker 2: You mentioned Trayvon Henderson. You wanted to talk about Travon Henderson.
- 42:10Speaker 3: And I did too. He's on my list.
- 42:15Speaker 2: The main thing here I had written down for him
- 42:18Speaker 2: just pass game impact, Like I think he's gonna be
- 42:21Speaker 2: an impact receiver out of the gate, just an impact
- 42:24Speaker 2: playmaker in general. But you see in the passing game
- 42:29Speaker 2: when he runs like a wheel or like a vertical
- 42:31Speaker 2: route out of the backfield, that's going to be a
- 42:33Speaker 2: hard foot race for a lot of linebackers to hang
- 42:36Speaker 2: with him. We've seen him run some routes detached from
- 42:40Speaker 2: the formation as well, like outside the formation too. I
- 42:44Speaker 2: think those short little option routes that we saw James
- 42:46Speaker 2: White live an entire Patriot Hall of Fame career on,
- 42:49Speaker 2: I think those are in his bag as well. Today
- 42:51Speaker 2: I saw him throw a chip block that landed a pancake,
- 42:55Speaker 2: which was cool to see see that pass protection a
- 42:57Speaker 2: little bit. He has come as advertised as well, I
- 43:00Speaker 2: would say, from explosiveness, sub game, pass game contribution. My
- 43:07Speaker 2: only question with Travion Henderson after watching him since the spring,
- 43:11Speaker 2: is not ability. It's workload, like just managing workload. He's
- 43:17Speaker 2: not the biggest guy, he's not the biggest running back.
- 43:19Speaker 2: It doesn't make sense to make him a volume running back.
- 43:22Speaker 2: So how exactly do they strike that balance of this
- 43:25Speaker 2: guy's a dynamic playmaker, but we also don't want to
- 43:28Speaker 2: overuse him at the same time.
- 43:30Speaker 3: That's the only question at this point.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I still think Rimondre's getting a brunt of
- 43:34Speaker 1: the workload in terms of the overall snaps. Now, the
- 43:36Speaker 1: big moments right third down, two minute drill. I think
- 43:38Speaker 1: that's where you see Henderson. The thing that stood out
- 43:41Speaker 1: to me, and we'll need to look at this more
- 43:43Speaker 1: when the games come around, because it's not a perfect
- 43:45Speaker 1: gauge in when they're not tackling, but man, when he
- 43:49Speaker 1: gets to the outside. There was a run today and
- 43:52Speaker 1: he had one yesterday. It was the same thing. Yesterday
- 43:53Speaker 1: was a toss. I think today was a stretch. The
- 43:56Speaker 1: one yesterday, like he has tossed the right side and
- 44:00Speaker 1: the defensive line comes down and caves it in and
- 44:02Speaker 1: it's like he's got nothing, like it should have been
- 44:04Speaker 1: blown up and he had a little sliver angle and
- 44:08Speaker 1: when he hit the top gear ended up being a touchdown.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Like his ability to create something from nothing by getting
- 44:15Speaker 1: the right angle and using his speed the fast and
- 44:18Speaker 1: take right. Okay, he's fast and his ball carrier vision,
- 44:24Speaker 1: but not just identifying the hole but being able to
- 44:27Speaker 1: time up, like when to run full speed. So on
- 44:29Speaker 1: that toss play for instance, right, if he just run
- 44:31Speaker 1: full speed right away, he would have lost the yards
- 44:34Speaker 1: because the blocking wouldn't have developed and the defense would
- 44:36Speaker 1: have gotten to him. He waited up. He was patient,
- 44:38Speaker 1: and then he knew when to hit the speed and
- 44:40Speaker 1: what angle to hit. I go back to the screen
- 44:42Speaker 1: touchdown against Texas in the college football playoffhere.
- 44:45Speaker 3: If you watch that to be there, right, if.
- 44:48Speaker 1: He runs full speed as soon as he catches the ball,
- 44:50Speaker 1: it's like a fifteen yard game, which isn't bad, but
- 44:53Speaker 1: you know it's the play's not developed. He's patient, he waits,
- 44:56Speaker 1: the blocking develops, he identifies the hole, he hits it
- 44:58Speaker 1: and then boom, he hits that top gear and pulls
- 45:00Speaker 1: away his ability to identify when he needs to run
- 45:04Speaker 1: full speed when he kind of needs to slow up
- 45:06Speaker 1: to be patient to visualize the blocks developing. All of that,
- 45:09Speaker 1: he is very impressive and it's a couple times now
- 45:11Speaker 1: he's created something from nothing, which we talked about this
- 45:14Speaker 1: offensive line. There might be a few cases here where's
- 45:16Speaker 1: running the ball it looks like nothing. So if you
- 45:19Speaker 1: can get something out of that, that's going to be
- 45:20Speaker 1: a major boost for this offense.
- 45:22Speaker 3: He's fast, there's no doubt about that. That speed.
- 45:24Speaker 2: He's fast, and that speed translates instantly, like you can
- 45:28Speaker 2: see it.
- 45:28Speaker 3: It's palpable, you can feel it.
- 45:30Speaker 2: He's he's faster than other people on the field and
- 45:33Speaker 2: and he's a I think he's gonna be a pretty
- 45:36Speaker 2: good receiver now. The only thing that like is holding
- 45:40Speaker 2: him back if anything at receiver is just like landmarks
- 45:43Speaker 2: and like kind of figuring out like how exactly Drake
- 45:46Speaker 2: wants him to run certain routes in terms of like
- 45:48Speaker 2: where he ends up.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Ye, look, get there, they'll get their typical rookie staf right.
- 45:52Speaker 2: They'll get there with that with you with Remandre I
- 45:55Speaker 2: have no reason to believe that he won't be a
- 45:57Speaker 2: lead back for this team on early down, lead back,
- 46:00Speaker 2: whatever you want to call that. I until today, Landlerson
- 46:04Speaker 2: got some reps today with the top offense with some
- 46:07Speaker 2: other frontline guys with Drake, But I thought Antonio Gibson
- 46:11Speaker 2: had been pretty much holding everybody off for that third
- 46:14Speaker 2: running backs body. Gibson's actually and maybe it's just a
- 46:16Speaker 2: veteran thing versus a rookie, but He's gotten some reps
- 46:19Speaker 2: over you know, in front of I should say, or
- 46:22Speaker 2: ahead of Trayvon Henderson even at times this summer. So
- 46:26Speaker 2: I still think Gibson is is okay, Like, I still
- 46:29Speaker 2: think he's probably on this team and has a role.
- 46:32Speaker 2: He's been returning kickoffs too in special teams with Henderson
- 46:36Speaker 2: that's been like the top duo returning kickoffs. Let's talk
- 46:39Speaker 2: about the receivers, because I know this is another hot
- 46:42Speaker 2: button topic. My other like take other than the offensive
- 46:46Speaker 2: line and how just jazzed up I am about the
- 46:48Speaker 2: fact that they have two rookies that can play. I'm
- 46:52Speaker 2: also trying to like manage my excitement level for Stefon Diggs,
- 46:55Speaker 2: Like my excitement level for Steffonde is pretty high. And
- 46:59Speaker 2: I'm just trying to keep it in perspective and like,
- 47:01Speaker 2: you know, take the hose and like put put me
- 47:05Speaker 2: out a little bit about this, because I understand that
- 47:09Speaker 2: the bar is not very high with what I'm about
- 47:11Speaker 2: to say, but it's still true. He's the best receiver
- 47:15Speaker 2: I've seen in Patriots camp since prime edilement. And it's
- 47:19Speaker 2: not particularly close. Like you just see like the efficiency
- 47:23Speaker 2: of his movements, the quickness of his movements, how good
- 47:26Speaker 2: he is his hands, like he has magnets for hands,
- 47:28Speaker 2: and like his ability to finish at the catch point,
- 47:31Speaker 2: and even when he's like in a crowded, contested catch
- 47:34Speaker 2: kind of situation, his ability to finish through contact and
- 47:37Speaker 2: keep the play, uh, you know, keep the ball in
- 47:40Speaker 2: his hands.
- 47:41Speaker 3: He just he's a professional receiver.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Like he just looks different than everybody else on this
- 47:46Speaker 2: on the field. Uh, It's it's really impressive to watch him.
- 47:52Speaker 2: I just if he's healthy and he's a go and
- 47:54Speaker 2: everything's fine, which it appears to be. Like I just
- 47:57Speaker 2: don't see a world where he doesn't catch a hundred
- 47:59Speaker 2: passes in this offense. It's like I just can't really
- 48:01Speaker 2: fathom how that doesn't happen.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna be in that role, and he's gotta
- 48:04Speaker 1: stay healthy.
- 48:05Speaker 3: He's gotta stay healthy.
- 48:06Speaker 2: But I and look, it could be like I've said before,
- 48:09Speaker 2: it could be one hundred catches for a thousand yards,
- 48:12Speaker 2: like it might only be like ten or eleven yards
- 48:14Speaker 2: per catch. I don't know if he's gonna be truly
- 48:17Speaker 2: a big play down the field burner anymore, but he is.
- 48:23Speaker 2: He's as advertised. And like I said, I I think
- 48:26Speaker 2: over the last four or five years, you've seen some
- 48:28Speaker 2: other veteran receivers, whether it's Nelson Agalore and Kendrick Bourne
- 48:32Speaker 2: and DeVante Parker and those types of guys, and you're like, like,
- 48:36Speaker 2: you know, Bourne's fine, but like those other two, it
- 48:38Speaker 2: was like, I don't know, you know.
- 48:39Speaker 3: I don't know about this, right. I don't feel that
- 48:42Speaker 3: way about Stefan Diggs. I feel like Stefan Diggs looks
- 48:44Speaker 3: like Stefan Diggs and that's a that's fun. Like, that's
- 48:48Speaker 3: a great development for them, and I think he's gonna
- 48:50Speaker 3: be a real player for them. They the Patriots might
- 48:52Speaker 3: have a Fantasy relevant wide receiver.
- 48:55Speaker 1: And Josh mctangiel's offense you never know, but no, he's been.
- 48:59Speaker 1: He had that one day where made a couple of drops.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Besides that, he's clearly one of my favorite targets. What's
- 49:04Speaker 1: really impressive is how advanced their chemistry seems to be already,
- 49:07Speaker 1: considering he wasn't really on the field with him in
- 49:09Speaker 1: the spring. Yeah him, I mean the clear top four
- 49:13Speaker 1: is him, Pop Booty and Kyle Williams. Yes, and then
- 49:17Speaker 1: after that, you know, where's Kendrick Bourne stand, where's Jalen
- 49:20Speaker 1: Polk stand? All that? But those four there's a different
- 49:25Speaker 1: kind of talk about speed. It's different kind of speed
- 49:26Speaker 1: to that unit. I think they all have good chemistry
- 49:28Speaker 1: with Drake May already you mentioned Kyle Williams. Your boy.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Big catch today go out from Drake May exactly as advertised.
- 49:36Speaker 2: He caught another one yesterday too in high red zone
- 49:39Speaker 2: where he just ran by the guy the defender on
- 49:41Speaker 2: a go rounde to and d Drake dropped that one
- 49:44Speaker 2: in the bucket as well. The one today was not
- 49:47Speaker 2: that it was like a bad play by Kyle Williams.
- 49:49Speaker 2: It was a beautiful throw though, Like that was you know,
- 49:52Speaker 2: Kyle Williams really hadn't run past I think it was
- 49:56Speaker 2: DJ James that was in coverage. He hadn't really run
- 49:59Speaker 2: past him yet, and Drake just kind of layered it
- 50:01Speaker 2: or laid it out there for him, and Kyle Williams
- 50:03Speaker 2: ran underneath it and Drake kind of threw him open,
- 50:06Speaker 2: like he just kind of What I was happy about
- 50:09Speaker 2: with Kyle Williams on that play is that he kept running.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Like at first I thought maybe he was going to
- 50:13Speaker 2: shut it down and like run a back shoulder or
- 50:16Speaker 2: something like that, but he knew what Drake was going
- 50:19Speaker 2: for and he kept running and Drake ended up throwing
- 50:21Speaker 2: him open. So it's a great connection there. The back
- 50:24Speaker 2: shoulder timing still needs a little bit of work like
- 50:26Speaker 2: that seems like it's still a little off. I'm not
- 50:29Speaker 2: one hundred percent sold yet that. Like in press Man,
- 50:31Speaker 2: the first and second level routes, I don't know if
- 50:34Speaker 2: he's going to where his separation level is with that.
- 50:37Speaker 2: But he can run a go route, that's for sure.
- 50:39Speaker 2: And if you start there and maybe expand as we
- 50:43Speaker 2: go here, then that's that's good news for Kyle Williams.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Is he pushing Kisehan Boody? Is there a world where
- 50:51Speaker 2: Kyle Williams is starting for this team. Do you still
- 50:53Speaker 2: feel like Booty's got that job, you know, locked down?
- 50:57Speaker 3: Where do he? Where's that competition for you right now?
- 51:00Speaker 1: Yeah? You know, booties gonna make the team with how
- 51:04Speaker 1: involved he is. I wonder if it's one of those things,
- 51:05Speaker 1: and we've seen them do this in the past where
- 51:08Speaker 1: the veteran starts the year and then it's not one
- 51:11Speaker 1: major switch, just over the course the rookie slowly and
- 51:13Speaker 1: slowly gets more involved. I also think we know McDaniels
- 51:16Speaker 1: isn't afraid to rotate and have four or five key guys,
- 51:19Speaker 1: and you know there isn't necessarily a default eleven personnel.
- 51:22Speaker 1: There might be that one guy it was Edelman, it
- 51:23Speaker 1: would probably be Digs in this scenario that's like always
- 51:27Speaker 1: on the field, but the other guys are moving around,
- 51:29Speaker 1: especially when a guy like Digs has the flexibility he
- 51:31Speaker 1: does to play xy and slot. So yeah, you wonder
- 51:35Speaker 1: with Kyle, I wonder if it's just gonna be an
- 51:37Speaker 1: outright forman rotation.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and you wonder with Kyle Williams too, Like I
- 51:40Speaker 2: just mentioned, maybe it's like a limited route tree for
- 51:44Speaker 2: him to start and so in certain packages, certain calls,
- 51:48Speaker 2: like certain times of the game you might want, you know,
- 51:51Speaker 2: the go route specialist on the field, right, which might
- 51:54Speaker 2: be when he is to kind of start his career
- 51:56Speaker 2: and then he plays in those situations. I don't know
- 51:59Speaker 2: if he's though, from just like an all around game perspective,
- 52:03Speaker 2: like is he ready to be like the starting X
- 52:06Speaker 2: receiver and like playing in all packages and all that
- 52:09Speaker 2: kind of stuff. Probably not, but he can definitely have
- 52:12Speaker 2: a role as like like you said, like kind of
- 52:15Speaker 2: like a wide receiver three slash four where he's rotating
- 52:18Speaker 2: with Booty and sometimes you know, in certain situations it
- 52:20Speaker 2: might be Booty, like maybe in like a twelve personnel
- 52:23Speaker 2: when they want like a more experienced run blocker and
- 52:26Speaker 2: somebody that like knows those elements a little bit better.
- 52:28Speaker 2: But then when they get into those eleven packages and
- 52:30Speaker 2: they just want to get their best playmakers on the
- 52:32Speaker 2: field and their most speed on the field, like then
- 52:35Speaker 2: maybe it's a Kyle Williams. The last thing on the receivers,
- 52:38Speaker 2: I wanted to mention where you had to take about
- 52:41Speaker 2: Javon Baker the other day on on my old program
- 52:45Speaker 2: on Clintis that had our friends talking on the beat
- 52:49Speaker 2: about your take about Javon Baker.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Were people talking about it, really little.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Chatter about Javon Baker, not just from oh just in
- 52:56Speaker 3: the group chat.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, no, one like yeah, but Javon Baker.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Is there any chance for Javon Baker, because so if
- 53:05Speaker 2: you had to stack like his highlight reel catches. Yeah,
- 53:08Speaker 2: in this camp like he has as many highlight reel
- 53:10Speaker 2: catches as anybody. That doesn't mean that it's a consistency issue,
- 53:14Speaker 2: is my point. Like he makes once a day, he makes.
- 53:17Speaker 1: But you know what, the lows aren't as low as
- 53:20Speaker 1: they like. There was one instance where he didn't line
- 53:22Speaker 1: upright and it was right after me.
- 53:25Speaker 3: That Alex has talked about this already.
- 53:26Speaker 1: But well, okay, here's the thing you talked about being
- 53:29Speaker 1: lowercase C concerned right about Morgan moses to borrow that
- 53:32Speaker 1: parlance lowercase G Goods start to camp for Javon Baker,
- 53:37Speaker 1: lower case GE gets sorry, Look, you know this is
- 53:39Speaker 1: how I do camp, right. I'm a credit where credit
- 53:41Speaker 1: is due, guy, I actually have another credit where credits
- 53:43Speaker 1: do take that we can do after this. But Javon
- 53:46Speaker 1: Baker came out he wasn't even working with the ones
- 53:48Speaker 1: he was working with the twos and threes, and he
- 53:51Speaker 1: was getting open regularly against twos and threes. Now he
- 53:53Speaker 1: dropped one and Josh Dobbs overthrew him a few times,
- 53:55Speaker 1: so he didn't have any catches. The overthrows and ours fall.
- 53:57Speaker 1: That drop is well, it's not his faulty. No, you're
- 54:00Speaker 1: the one where Doms missed him by like fifteen yards.
- 54:02Speaker 1: It's actually impressive as far Dobbs through the ball. But
- 54:06Speaker 1: like he's getting open, okay, credit, What more is he
- 54:09Speaker 1: supposed to do when he's with If he's gonna make
- 54:11Speaker 1: the team, he's got to show he can compete against
- 54:14Speaker 1: top unit. In order to get the reps with the
- 54:16Speaker 1: top unit, he has to show that he deserves them
- 54:20Speaker 1: by winning against lower units. And I think he did that.
- 54:22Speaker 1: You know, he's gotten a little bit more with Drake
- 54:24Speaker 1: may here he caught the big bomb from him the
- 54:26Speaker 1: other day. Ye had that toe tap catch? Was that
- 54:29Speaker 1: from mayor Dobbs and near the tow tap on the
- 54:30Speaker 1: sideline today Dobbs, that might have been Dobbs. He's still
- 54:32Speaker 1: working mostly with Dobbs. But like, look, this is again
- 54:36Speaker 1: this is how I do camp. I don't think I
- 54:38Speaker 1: still don't think Jayvon Baker is making the team. I
- 54:40Speaker 1: still think he's far away and there's too many guys
- 54:42Speaker 1: ahead of him, and all that lower case G goods
- 54:45Speaker 1: start to camp credit where credit due. He's done pretty much.
- 54:48Speaker 3: As he's done what he could have possibly.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Right, He's doing as much as he could realistically do.
- 54:52Speaker 1: He's making the most the opportunity he's getting. So lowercase
- 54:55Speaker 1: G goods start to camp for Jaymon Baker realistically, you know,
- 54:59Speaker 1: like realist good situation, And because there are so many
- 55:02Speaker 1: receivers ahead of him, if they let's say, like they
- 55:04Speaker 1: hadn't signed stuff on Diggs, right, this may be a
- 55:07Speaker 1: more serious conversation because there's probably one or two guys
- 55:10Speaker 1: in the way, especially when mac Hollins comes back, or
- 55:13Speaker 1: like let's say just like they had less you know,
- 55:15Speaker 1: Polk was still hurt. Whatever, it might be more serious conversations.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Probably not. So You're just like, realistically, if he's gonna
- 55:23Speaker 1: have this kind of success against twos and threes that
- 55:25Speaker 1: he is, throw him out there in the second half
- 55:27Speaker 1: of preseason games, let him take over and maybe get
- 55:30Speaker 1: like a six round pick for him.
- 55:31Speaker 2: So what I I think he has so along with
- 55:34Speaker 2: just like the highlight Yeah, the flashes. The other day
- 55:37Speaker 2: you mentioned the seven on seven catch where he just
- 55:39Speaker 2: basically blew by the entire defense and caught a deep
- 55:42Speaker 2: off from Drake May. Yesterday he high pointed the one
- 55:45Speaker 2: in the in red zone period where he went above
- 55:48Speaker 2: the corner.
- 55:48Speaker 3: I can't remember who the corner.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Was, but he Moss the guy Mott was I want
- 55:53Speaker 1: to say Marcellus Dial.
- 55:54Speaker 3: Yeah, he went right like he was on.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Javon Baker went to the tenth floor and the corner
- 55:58Speaker 2: could only get to the seventh floor, and he won
- 56:01Speaker 2: right right won the ball. He has a skill set
- 56:05Speaker 2: and I would like he has a skill set plus
- 56:07Speaker 2: a body type that's different from Booty and Kyle Williams. Yeah,
- 56:12Speaker 2: Javon Baker runs like a gazille. Like Javon Baker's got
- 56:15Speaker 2: long strides, he got great build up speed, like he
- 56:18Speaker 2: pulls away from the defense a little bit better than
- 56:20Speaker 2: a Kasehan Boody does. And then he's got better size
- 56:23Speaker 2: than a Kyle Williams. So that's what he does. Going
- 56:27Speaker 2: for him is that he's a specimen. Like he is
- 56:29Speaker 2: a physical specimen. He's six' to two with four to four,
- 56:33Speaker 2: speed four or five speed, maybe BUT i think he's
- 56:36Speaker 2: probably in the four. Fours like he's got good, speed
- 56:39Speaker 2: especially long, speed and he's got good size for the,
- 56:42Speaker 2: position and those other two GUYS i don't think necessarily
- 56:46Speaker 2: check those. Boxes So Javon baker's got that going for.
- 56:49Speaker 1: He ran a four or five.
- 56:49Speaker 2: Four, SEE i feel like he's faster than, That but
- 56:52Speaker 2: maybe that's just LOWERCASE.
- 56:54Speaker 1: G good. Start we'll see what happens if he Get
- 56:57Speaker 1: like here's the. Thing if he's making catches like this
- 56:59Speaker 1: on a regular basis in preseason, games he's probably not
- 57:01Speaker 1: going to get to the practice. Squad so it's just something,
- 57:05Speaker 1: too you, know if you, know it's obviously not ideal
- 57:08Speaker 1: for round a year?
- 57:09Speaker 3: Ago where credits do as? WELL i think he's made
- 57:11Speaker 3: some nice.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Plays CAN i give you one more guy? Credit where credits?
- 57:13Speaker 1: Do maybe this lessens the take On Javon. Baker, okay
- 57:17Speaker 1: you know what else? Said like a sneaky solid couple
- 57:19Speaker 1: of days, here it's just regularly showing. Up caught a
- 57:21Speaker 1: couple of touchdowns last few.
- 57:22Speaker 3: Days, Gee, scott SO i was going to get to
- 57:25Speaker 3: the tight.
- 57:25Speaker 1: End so go, okay go, Ahead well So Hunter Henry
- 57:28Speaker 1: Austin hooper the top two tight. Ends, obviously still nobody's
- 57:31Speaker 1: emerged for that third tight. End Jack westover is getting
- 57:34Speaker 1: most of the third tight end. Reps he was the
- 57:35Speaker 1: second tight end up When hooper was on, pup but
- 57:38Speaker 1: he hasn't really done much with, it at least from
- 57:39Speaker 1: my point of. View you, know blocking, WISE i don't
- 57:42Speaker 1: know That scott stood out at, all But Josh dobbs
- 57:44Speaker 1: likes throwing. Him he's been a volume target and the
- 57:48Speaker 1: one thing that stands out to me is he can
- 57:50Speaker 1: catch the ball with the defender hanging on his back
- 57:52Speaker 1: catching and it's not like he's going up mossing, guys
- 57:55Speaker 1: but on the crosser right when the corner is like
- 57:57Speaker 1: a hand on your shoulder and he's trying to turn,
- 57:59Speaker 1: you or he's got a hand underneath under your. Waist
- 58:01Speaker 1: like he's still catching all those. Passes so he's not getting,
- 58:05Speaker 1: open but he looks. Open how often he's catching. These
- 58:08Speaker 1: he's got strung kill so and, look he was a
- 58:11Speaker 1: highly ranked wide receiver prospect who went To Ohio, state
- 58:15Speaker 1: and obviously he's since become a tight, end so things have.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Changed but AGAIN i don't know that G scott's going
- 58:20Speaker 1: to make the. TEAM i still think they probably want
- 58:22Speaker 1: to blocking third tight, end especially if they're not gonna
- 58:24Speaker 1: have a, fallback which we can get.
- 58:25Speaker 3: To i'm about to get.
- 58:26Speaker 1: To but credit where credits? Do if we're everybody was,
- 58:30Speaker 1: waiting you, KNOW i keep getting, questions who's third tight,
- 58:32Speaker 1: end who's? Emerging who stepped up through seven practices from that? Group, Westover,
- 58:36Speaker 1: Bell dupre And. SCOTT i Think scott's been the best.
- 58:39Speaker 2: Guy he's been the most. Noticeable James bell had to
- 58:42Speaker 2: catch today he. Did it was the first TIME i
- 58:44Speaker 2: feel Like i've Said James bell's name are Written James
- 58:47Speaker 2: bell's name.
- 58:48Speaker 3: Down But. Scott IF i had to say who has
- 58:51Speaker 3: a merger who has flashed the, Most i'm with, YOU
- 58:54Speaker 3: i would Say. Scott AND i think, Again dobbs seems
- 58:56Speaker 3: to really like throwing, him so we get into these preseason.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Games he could be somebody that puts up some.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Numbers so you mentioned the full back and we're gonna
- 59:03Speaker 2: this is gonna get somber here for a. Second, Yeah so,
- 59:06Speaker 2: really it doesn't he get that?
- 59:08Speaker 1: Song it's. Upsetting it is, upsetting but it's not it's
- 59:11Speaker 1: Still it's not.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Forever so The patriots yesterday Plays Brock lampy on injured.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Reserve you, know still call Him Spencer. Larson the other
- 59:21Speaker 1: DAY i said that To Mike riso is very embarrassed
- 59:23Speaker 1: you called Him Spencer. Lars, YEAH i REMEMBER i did,
- 59:25Speaker 1: That LIKE i didn't called Make Greece Spencer, lars AND
- 59:27Speaker 1: i Called lampy, space which he's not even like the
- 59:30Speaker 1: number forty. Six BUT i did that on a show
- 59:31Speaker 1: during the off season. TOO i don't know WHY i
- 59:33Speaker 1: kept doing.
- 59:33Speaker 2: That so The patriots Plays Brock lampy on injured. Reserve
- 59:37Speaker 2: his season is.
- 59:37Speaker 1: Over, yes it's not the kind of ir you can
- 59:41Speaker 1: come back. From he is done for the.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Year so The patriots do not have a traditional fullback
- 59:46Speaker 2: on the roster. Anymore not to like Gloss over for
- 59:49Speaker 2: sucks For, lampy like tough, obviously, yeah because he was
- 59:51Speaker 2: gonna make the. Team he was running with the top.
- 59:53Speaker 2: Unit he was gonna make the. Team, yeah so stinks For.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Lampy but just from a moving forward, PERSPECTIVE i have
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: to imagine The patriots are gonna kick the tires at
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: some point. On some full backs Like Mike reese will
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: have a list of like The patriots had five guys
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: in for a workout and four of them will be
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: full backs like or something like, that right, RIGHT i
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: have to imagine that there's Also Hunter brosio, waivers like
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: in roster cut down, day and if a team decides
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: that they're not gonna go the full back direction with their,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: offense like maybe they wave a full back or they
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: cut a full back and The patriots sign a full.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Back Maybe josh McDaniels Calls Nick casario and begs For Yakub,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Johnson LIKE i don't, Know LIKE i think they're gonna
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: pull a full back out of.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: SOMEWHERE i would have to.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Imagine it's not like we're asking them to pull a
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: starting left tackle out of, somewhere, Right like this is
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: a full, back They'll it's different in, that like if
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: left tackle gets, hurt you have other left tackles on the,
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: roster and you have to have a left. Tackle it's
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: just hard to imagine they would go From, okay we're
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: gonna have a fall back and he's gonna be involves
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: and then one guy gets hurt and suddenly you change
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: the entire offense because of. It like you, said you
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: can find a full back that seems easier than changing
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: the Off SO i think, that, uh that they'll find
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: a full back. Elsewhere but for right, now they don't
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: have the full. Back but like you, said they were
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: using a full back up until this, point like the
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: full back was, Involved, yeah meaning Brock lampy was involved
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: up until this. Point one padded practicing out, though is
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: a tough bee for Brock. LAMPY i feel for him,
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: because like you, said he was going to make the. Team, so,
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: uh we're on the same page with the full. Back
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: they'll find a full back at some point here in
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: the next, MONTH i would, assume AND i still, believe
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: they'll have a full back on the.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Roster.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Uh and they'll use a full back, now could A
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: jack West, Over Jean bell G scott, like could they develop.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Their H they're, not that's not the guy you want
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: me in the lineback with.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: You SO i think that they will probably sign another.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: So back again IF i can make the, pitch And
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: i'm not entirely sure like. It sometimes it's hard to
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: find information on these. Guys he may have gone back to,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: school but they didn't see him sign. Anywhere. Uh Hunter
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: brosio was not Only North Dakota state's full, back and
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: that's that's a school to run the damn ball. Right
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: not only was he there starting, fallback he was also
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: An All american long, Snapper so you have your, backup
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: you'd have your, fallback and you'd have a backup long
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: snapper if you need.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: One so that's no comment on. That, No, OKAY i
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: feel like that's a good wrap on the. Offense we
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: have to end a little bit early, today SO i
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: don't want. TO i think we did a good job
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: there on the. Offense but before we move over to the.

- 1:03:20Speaker 2: furniture store of The New England. Patriots moving over to the.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Defense SO i said earlier THAT i was small sea
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: concerned About Morgan. MOSES i feel a little bit better after.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Today it's it's maybe like it's in like eight point.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: Font now you know we're really.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Small, well the size of the font has nothing to
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: do with whether or not letters are capitalized or.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: Not good, point good, Points BUT i try, to, LIKE
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: i here out a different way to say. It CAN
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: i say that you might be the same WAY a
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: little bit About Milton.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Williams, yeah, well just one aspect of his. Game SO
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: i still Think Milton. WILLIAMS i mean he's clearly, powerful,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: explosive quick as a pass, rusher AND i think him
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: And barmore it's clearly Have Kem that's gonna be a
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: ton of fun and this EXPANDS i get it's not
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: so much a concern About Milton, WILLIAMS i, guess as
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: it is their front as a, whole and it's nothing.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: New we talked about, this. Uh part of getting quicker
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: and faster and more explosive upfront this offseason meant getting.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Smaller and this is a team that already struggled to
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: stop the run last. Year So Milton williams did not
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: have a great first few days in pads against the. Runs,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: specifically it's fine pass. RUSHING i don't think he was
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: great against the. Run and it, was you, know a
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: QUESTION i, had they're going to be smaller. Now Maybe
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Kyris tonga ends up playing a bigger role THAN i
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: was expecting because it kind of looks like that based
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: on what they've, done and he's been really.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Good he's only done the team that he can eat
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: space like truly eat space Like barmore eats space in
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: his own. Way but if you're really talking about like
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: a space eating nose, tackle It's. Tonga he's one of.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: One, Yeah roy's done it a little. BIT i don't
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: know he was in with the first team Because barmore was.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: LIMITED i don't know that he ultimately makes the team
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: when it's all said and. Done BUT i just Look
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: miltwilliams playing a new role. Here he was a situational.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Player he was a passing down player In philly because
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: they had all that. Depth never played more than four
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: eight percent of the snaps in his career before coming.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: Here him and Were able talked about that introductory press
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Conferce he's gonna play a bigger. Role that means stopping to.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Run they need him to be able to stop the.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Run so not you, know it's just a few, days
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: plenty of time to turn, around but not a good
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: first couple of days for. HIM i thought on run.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: Defense so your bigger picture concerned about the run defense
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: as a. Whole In Milton williams's role in that is
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: is totally.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Valid, Yeah i'm not overly shocked that he's not like
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: a glitzy practice player because of the style Of russier
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: that he, is Like Melon williams is a speed to power,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: dent the pocket move the guard type of pass. Rusher,
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: Right SO i WHEN i, see, like for, instance when
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: you watch one on, Ones like the fact That Millon
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: williams isn't dominating one on ones is not a surprise
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: to me and doesn't worry me at all because it's.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Just not the type of pass rusher that he.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Is he is somebody that likes to convert speed to
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: power and he wants to go through, people and, like
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: you're not gonna see that unless he puts somebody on his,
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Butt like you're not gonna see it right in. Drills
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: it's just not going to come to fruition the same.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Way AND i would also just, say LIKE i think
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: that that's a guy that plays the best when in real,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Games LIKE i think he's a game, player not necessarily
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: a practice. Player So i'm not worried About Milon williams
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: because of. That BUT i hear what you're saying in
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: general about the defensive line and his role in the run.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Defense they are going to you, know he said it.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Today this is all about get. Off it's about your
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: first three, Steps like they want to fly up the
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: field off the ball in this. Defense so in a
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: lot of, ways and this is a deuce, Parlance i'll
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: steal it from. Him they are going to stop the
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: run on the way to the, quarterback like they are
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: going to fly off the, Ball and the hope is
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: is that when they shoot their gun that they shoot
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: it right into the running, back Right, like that's the.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Hope but if they don't and they, miss then it's
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: going to be a little bit. Leaky, now the one
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: guy that hopefully will prevent it from being too leaky
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: is fourteen standing behind, Them Robert, Splane, like that's going
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: to be his job.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Is to fix.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: It is gonna make them right and put them back
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: into plays and make sure that, those you, know leaky
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: moments don't turn into like fifty yard runs right, right
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: that's gonna be On. Spline but at the same, TIME
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: i don't think that this is gonna be a very stout.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Front this is gonna be a splash play.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Front so, yeah and you mentioned it Being, Splaine he's
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: gonna be a big part of. That Where i'm just
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: coming from is LIKE i assuming everybody's, healthy and obviously
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: they're a little banged up in the secondary right, Now
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: but assuming everybody's, Healthy, Gonzales, Davis doug Or Pepper's Joe Marcus,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: jones AND i get that's an, If but assuming everybody's, healthy,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: RIGHT i actually think they're gonna be relatively tough to
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: throw the football on between that. Secondary they don't have
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: a great pass, rush but like they've got some dudes
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: up there.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: On, yeah we'll GET i think're gonna be tough.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Throw the ball. On what concerns me is that if
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: that's the, case we remember what The jaguars did to
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: them last year In. London All, right we're just gonna
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: run the ball seventeen times in a row and they
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: at least need to be good enough to deter. That
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: that's the baseline for.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: Me it's fair moving to the, addressers as you just mentioned,
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: him is it fair to say That Kalvon chason has
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: been the best defender In patriots training.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: CAMP i think you could argue he's been the best
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: player on the field since The pats came. On he's
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: been saying.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: That, YEAH i think that there's a good argument for
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: that as.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: Well he's it's beyond flashing at this. Point it's like
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: he's just in the backfield every other. Play now you
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: could look at that, again you could look at the
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: negative side of that and, say, well who's blocking? Him
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: then you, know like what's going on with the offensive.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Line BUT i Think chason's just been, Great LIKE i
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: think he's just been, explosive and he's you, know fits
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: this scheme really well and he looks at home in.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: It you, know this is a guy who's a former
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: first round. Pick AND i went through it this morning
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: BECAUSE i was trying to jog my memory of his.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Career he was drafted by The jaguars in twenty twenty
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: in the first. Round that Was Doug morons last. Year
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: Doug maroons here, now So i'll be gentle with What
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: i'm about to. Say they won one. Game let's just
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: stick to the. Facts they won one. Game it wasn't
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: a good. Season the next year Was Trevor lawrence's rookie.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: Year it was The myer year In, jacksonville train, wreck
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: right for the entire. Organization then he played on Some
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Doug peterson. Teams he goes To carolina for a. Year
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: then he goes last year To vegas where he had
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: like a josh U ja type season right where, like,
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: yeah he's playing Opposite Max, crosby takes advantage of some,
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: matchups he racks up from, sacks things like. That but
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: there's still a first round talent in there, somewhere and
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: it is there a Chance And i'm not saying he's
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: going to turn into like a three down game, wrecker
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Like i'm keeping it within reason, here but is there
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: a chance that he's like a really really good player
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: in his role With BIG, t With Terrell, williams With Mike,
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: rabel with a scheme that fits, him with the coaching
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: staff that knows what it's. Doing, Like i'm just saying
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: that he hasn't had the easiest road in THE nfl
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: to this. Point he hasn't been on the best, teams
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: and he hasn't had the easiest. Road so maybe at
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: this Point Calebon chason can kind of find himself in
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: THE nfl with The patriots because he's just looked, Terrific
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: like there's no other, way.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: And this is the coaching staff that's had success kind
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: of turning these guys. Around he's still, Young he've an
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: he's been in the leagues in twenty. Twenty he's only twenty,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Six SO i don't know that they Found Miles garrett
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: out of, nowhere but, yeah if he can be a
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: more productive pass rusher and kind of play up a
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: little closer to that. Traffic it'd be. GREAT i think
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: there is some Josh uche there where it's gonna come
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: in spurts and you look at the flashes and you,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: say how real is? This like let's say he had
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: like a twelve sax, season, right how quickly are people
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: going to start talking About Mark anderson and THAT i
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: would Take Mark.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Anderson he's absolutely so weird that you just said, that
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: because the first name that came to my mind WHEN
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: i was like doing some research On chase on this
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: morning was, like is he gonna be like A Andre
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Carter Mark anderson, type right that like comes to The
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: patriots for a year and has DOUBLE?
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Digitsudt it Was Mark anderson had twelve sacks as a.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Rookie, yeah Like Mark anderson, Had is the exact comp
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: THAT i was thinking, of like the exact kind of
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: player like?
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Everything, yeah, no if He BUT i would take A
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Mark anderson in year just let The bills be the
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: ones to pay him after, Again BUT i would take
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: A Mark anderson.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: Here but the point being With chase on AND i
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: had the same point With landry in terms of The
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: Mark anderson, stuff like If Keon white In barmore And
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Milon williams are moving the quarterback off the spot because
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: they're just disrupting and they're just wrecking stuff in the
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: interior and bodies are flying. Around we've talked about they
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: need somebody to, finish, Right they needed somebody that's actually
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: going to get the quarterback on the. Ground and there's
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: NO i have no reason to believe that that can't be.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Chasing, YEAH i think he can be a. Finisher it's
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: been encouraging. Storry then the real next test for him
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: is gonna be those joint, Practices like let's, See i'm
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: not exactly putting in the ticket for Calebon chase On
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Defensive player of The year just, yet but it's.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: Been can you clean? Up that's?
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: It you, know of all their free agent, signings that
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: was not a guy that was like particularly high on
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: my radar of, like, oh you, know maybe potential breakout
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: guy could be a. Steal not THAT i thought he's gonna.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: SUCK i just he. Wasn't he kind of flew under
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: the radar there in free. Agency he's been their best
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: free agent edition so far in camp Maybe Robert. Splane
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: he's also been really, good just not by the nature
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: of his, position not the same number of impact plays
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: because the way they play in. Practice but, boy if
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: he's a fine that changes a.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: Lot it's just if he's the fourth guy like you
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: said about you know oocha and those types of, comps
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: like if you have to worry About Milon, williams you
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: have to worry About, barmore you have to worry About Keon.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: White if those guys are worth worrying, about right those.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: ARE i don't know if like all three of them
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: will Be tuesday players, truly but like they're their. Guys
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: teams are scouting and having plans for that leaves. It you,
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: know we've talked About landry in that role as well.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Before but that fourth, rusher you, know whether It's chason
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: or It's, Landry like that guy is gonna just see
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: one on ones on the back side of the formation all,
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: day every, Day Like chaison's is gonna get a one
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: on one against the tackle and if he wins his
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: one on, one then he's gonna get a bunch of.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Sacks like that's just the nature of the beast, there
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: AND i don't have any reason to believe that he
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: can't do. That so he's been incite. Exciting he's been
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: one of the best players on the, field like you,
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: said for The patriots through seven. PRACTICES i initially wrote
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: That swinson's been, quiet but he had the one on one,
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: today so credit to him. THERE i actually Think Elijah
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: ponders had some flashes and one on The, yeah he's
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: been doing well on. That so those two, Rookies, uh
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: coming on a little bit. Here swinston's been quiet up until,
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: today BUT i thought today was one of his better
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: days at.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: LINEBACKER i, mean there's not.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: A ton to say other than you, KNOW i Think
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Robert splaine is obviously locked. IN i Think Christian ellis
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: is pretty locked into the spot next to him at this.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: Point If Gilyant devi is not out, there he's on
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: the pup, list so that that's a. Factor but maybe
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: we hear a little bit From Jack gibbons as well
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: as like, where yeah.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: He's at the, screen Yeah. LARUS i mean he got
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: to the. Ball he got he got To larison before
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: the ball did From dobbs like he read. It, so,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Uh Lane, larrison just to, Backtrack Land larrison caught his
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: first pass From drake main teams. Today there you. GO
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: i don't know if you put any weight in. That
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: but that, Happened that did.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: Happen it was a nice little screen too good blocking
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: Hunter henry.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: AND I i did a LITTLE udfa checking in my notebook.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Today very, nice uh.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Aside from like the occasional one like the one today
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: For laris and just quick, ASIDE i think the least
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: successful plays in practices of screens LIKE i feel like.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: The defense never, bites the defense never.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: Cares there's no reason of biting this.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: Right there's no reason to bite in the setting is exactly.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: Right and The patriots obviously want to have the screen
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: game be a big part of the. Offense i'm not anti.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Screen some people are anti. Screen i'm not anti. SCREEN
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: i think a lot of really good teams. Screen you,
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: know The eagles and The chiefs said The, chiefs Especially
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: Andy reid is like a screen game, wizard, Right he's.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Probably the best at.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: It The chiefs are always near the top of the
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: league in screen usage and there if it's good enough
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: for The, chiefs and it's good enough for everybody in my,
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: mind BUT i feel like they never work.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: In but they're not not working because they're designed. Poorly
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: they're not working its.
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: Work the defense doesn't bite on, him.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Right because there's no reason. To you don't want to
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: get caught out of position to, like there's no upside to.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: Not.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: Yeah so at, corner we know That Christian gonzales And
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Carlton davis are missing in and out of, practice maintenance
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: whatever you want to call. It For Carlton davis And
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: gonzales reportedly has the. Hamstring my concern level For Christian
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: gonzalez is less than. ZERO i am absolutely not worried
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: about his hamstring injury at. All, uh as far As i'm,
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: concerned And i'll continue to SAY i said this yesterday
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: ON PU i will See Christian gonzales week one Against
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: Las Vegas, raiders AND i do not care if he
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: practices one more time in the.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Summer, yeah they can take their.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: Time, Yeah i'll see it against.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: The keep that same energy With Jason.
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: Tatum, uh that's.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: Different, no it's. Not, no it's really. Not it's.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: Different it's basketball against. Football it's totally.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Different it's it's the star, player it's the best player
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: on the, team it's the guy wearing number.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Zero BUT i said that he can't miss any regular
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: season games if he starts to miss regular season games
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: also have to be worried about.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: It For Christian, Gonzalez i'm.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Just, saying keep that, patience keep that patience.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: Out Jason, Tatim but more importantly from a camp, perspective
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: Because gonzales And davis have been, out which is an, Ideal,
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: like no one's saying that that's what they want to,
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: happen but we have seen opportunities from the depth corners
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: and we're starting to figure out this depth chart and
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: cipher through. This So, Alex, Austin, Marcella's dial AND Dj
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: james are obviously the guys that are benefiting the most from.
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: This what have you seen from those? Three, like who
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: have you liked the most out of that?
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: GROUP i Mean AUSTIN'S i think the third, Guy like
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: that's pretty, clear and he's been good to another couple
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: of pass breakups. TODAY Dj james been. IMPRESSIVE Dj james
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: has just shown up and he seems like he makes
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: a player two every. DAY i think he's been the
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: better of the two Than. Dial, Now die was a
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: core special teamer for them last, year so you have
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: to factor that in in terms of Can james replace
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: him in that? Role because somebody else replacement that role
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: and want to keep them for special. Teams maybe they
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: can keep bold excuse, me depending on how the rest
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: of the roster shakes. Out but he's been. GOOD i
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: am a little surprised you haven't seen More Isaiah, bolden
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Like i'd like him to Get it's in what is
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: his three years? Now of can we see some more
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: From Isaiah? Bolden and they haven't done a ton of
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: kick RETURN i don't think he's really done much when
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: they have done kick return, Stuff so he might be
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: on the outside looking. In But i've been impressed WITH Dj,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: James SO D.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: J james have been, active you, know lock pass.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: Breakups MARCELLO'S i don't know If marcelli's dial is the
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: best outside corner in terms of coverage, Ability LIKE i
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: don't know if he's a true cover, corner BUT i
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: do like his, physicality AND i like his play, demeanor
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: AND i like his, speed AND i like his tackling.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: Ability Is marcella's dial maybe more like a nickel safety
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: at this level than like an outside boundary corner like
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: it plays in the slot plays maybe a little bit of.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Safety he made some plays on the first day at
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: pads against the, run that like really stood, out, like,
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: yeah firing, downhill you, know filling, gaps filling you, know
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: whole going through wide receivers who are trying to block
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: him and just going right through him to the. Football
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: SO i wonder If Marcella's, dial BECAUSE i don't think
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: he's the. BEST i don't think he's the best cover,
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Corner LIKE i when he has to turn his back
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: to the quarterback and really run with the receiver down the,
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Field i'm not sure that that's where he's more most.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: Comfortable but if he plays that nickel spot and he
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: can play the, run he can be strong, side you,
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: know edge, setter second force defender against the, run and
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: then you also have him and maybe cover some tight
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: ends which might be easier for, him you, know do
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: some zone drops and things like. That like maybe that's
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: a role For marcello's don because his physicality.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: And his tackling is is. Noticeable he's really good in.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: That you see on special, teams, right you see it
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: in special. Teams SO i would Say, Dial BUT i
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: understand why you picked Out james, There and it's also
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: just Something i've been thinking about. It we don't have
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: enough time for it, today but it's something to unpack
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: in the, future just like how they're going to cover
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: tight ends in, General i'm just not one hundred percent sure,
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: about AND i don't know of dial factors into that
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: we'll see at. SAFETY i just think the biggest thing
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: to take away from safety is the hunt for a
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: third safety is, on like they're trying to find the
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: right combination back. There AND i would even go as
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: far to say at, times like it might mean That
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Kyle dugger And Jabil peppers aren't on the field together
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: all the. Time that could be a case where if
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: they want to get three corners on the field and
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: they want to be like a true three Corner nickel
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: or even like a four corner dime or something like,
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: that like they might play one of these more free
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: safety body types like An EPs Or hawkins Or woodson
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: With dugger Or peppers and take one of those guys
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: off the. Field LIKE i don't think it's a guarantee
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: that the two of them are gonna just be on
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: the field all the, Time so we'll see where that.
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: Goes but the third safety is clearly something they're looking,
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: for like they're trying to figure out their best combination back.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: There, YEAH i, Mean hawkins seems to be squarely in the.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: MIX i feel like we've seen less Of Marcus EPs
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: after the first couple of. Days maybe that's because he's
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: still recovering from THE acl and the pads coming on
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: and all THAT i had. Cited Maybe Craig woodson is
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: that that tight end stop or he's kind of dropped
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: off after he had a strong. Spring, so, yeah the
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: search for that guy. Continues, YEAH i don't know if
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: they have that. Guy, yeah they might not have.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: It they might not have.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: Him BUT i have noticed quite a few times, that
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: especially if they're doing like third, down when they're repping third,
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: down That peppers And dugger haven't always been out there.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: Together like it's sometimes it's Been, epp sometimes it's Been,
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: woodson like it's been another guy that they're trying to
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: get into their safety involved. There All, right to wrap this,
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: up it's your time to. Shine, Yep i'm Gonna i'm
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: gonna hand the ball over to. You the ball is
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: now in your. Court tell me about The, kickers because
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: my one question about The. Kickers, yeah Has Parker romo
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: just take away that they Drafted borgolas and all that.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: Stuff if you take away all the, context Has Parker
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: romo Outperformed Andy burgalas to this, Point.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: YEAH i mean by a slim. Margin, well so are
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: we concluding the spring or? Not if we include the,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: SPRING i still Think borgolis is. Ahead romo has been
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: slightly better in. CAMP i think it's pretty much. Even.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: OKAY i think not including the draft and tie is
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: going to go to the draft pick, right, Correct so
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: not including the draft pick factor and, EVERYTHING i would
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: say going back to the, spring it's a. Tie. OKAY
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: i do think it's interesting that After borgolis struggled with them,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: alternating they went to two. Days, Okay romo's gonna kick
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: six and that's, it and Then borgolis is gonna kick
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: six and that's. It and then they went back to alternating.
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Today so a little bit of a. Reset the end
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: stadium On friday is obviously a, big big one for.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: THIS i Asked Bryce baringer about That Quinn nordin the
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: Quin it's where were you Moment Quinn nordin's nine for
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: nine in the end stadium. Practice we also remember where we.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: Were we're gonna name A Quinn ordine award on the
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: show next. Week that's gonna be whoever won the in
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: stadium practice for the.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Kickers that might just be the annual The Quinn ordine.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: Winner but, yeah, no it's. BEEN i think that the
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: other factor in this that you have to mention IS
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: i think That Julian ashby And Bryce beringer are still
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: building some chemistry as the snapper and. Holder punt snaps
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: have been, fine the field goal snaps are still. There
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: hasn't been any truly bad, snaps but there's still some
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: where you, Know berenger's reaching a little bit to get
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: it down and that can impact. It so the operation
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: as a whole is still coming. Together BUT i think
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: it's relatively neck. Connect but Again ty goes to the draft.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Picks so IF i had a pick, today It's. PORGALIS
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: i Think porgallis is going to have that kind of
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: slight built in. Advantage but we thought it was over
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: at the end of the, spring, right And romo's come
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: back and he's had a great hand of the thing
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: About romo is the way he hits the. BALL i,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: mean even when he's hitting from forty, five he's not
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: just getting over the crossbar it's not lightly tapping that
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: field goal, net, Right he's hammering the crap out of the,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: ball and that conna be good and. Bad. Right it
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: obviously helps you in, weather it helps you in, wind
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: you stick to your. Trajectory but those, guys when you
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: kick that, hard your mechanics really have to be down
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: because any minor issue in the mechanics is going to
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: be you, know, uh it's gonna have more of an
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: effect if you have a mistake because you're swinging so.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: Hard so that's About. Romo borgalis had that rough first.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Day he's been good since you see him bounce.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: Back what do you make of? Him is something that
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: we've talked.
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: About yeah'm.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Puh we've noticed that Sometimes borgalis's kicks are not in
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: like they're not going end over. It, yeah they're kind
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: of they're. Knuckleballs what do you make of?
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: That if they go through ultimately it doesn't. Matter he's
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: had a couple so the ones going back to the,
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: spring like he had a mishit where it was still
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: good but it just didn't hit his foot, right WHICH
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: i think when you can mishit, it it still goes.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: Through that to the opposite that speaks to how strong
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: your mechanics are that even if one thing's a little bit,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: off the rest of it's still tied together and you're
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: in good. SHAPE i think that's just a consistency. Thing
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: they might be working on his form a little, bit
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: so that's why that's. Happening Like, romo if they were
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: going to tweak his, form they probably did it last
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: year when he was here on the practice. Squad it's
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: not something they'd be working, ON i would think heavily right.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Now call us obviously that's another. Story so as long
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: as they're going, through it's not a big. Issue but
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: it does tell you that there's something he's maybe working on.
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: Mechanically so you feel, like as of right now that
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: it's close enough that the tie goes to the draft.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: Picks, yes, Yeah i'm with you on. THAT i feel
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: the same. Way, so but it's not.
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Over it's not over in stadium, practice preseason games that
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: those are all big.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Deals so that, position it'll be interesting seeing who they
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: have kicking the games and how many reps each guy
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: gets in the, games so that's usually pretty.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: Telling, yeah all, right so that's your run through the entire.
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Roster hope you enjoyed. It we have a couple more,
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: minutes So i'm going to tell you. What we have
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: three callers that've been waiting on hold.
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: For a really long.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: Time but you guys got to be fast because we
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: we got to get off your no pleasant another show
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: on this in the, Studio so be as quickly as you.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: Can if you're still hanging on, Here patty and Agu,
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: on what's Up, Patty.
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: I'm still hanging, on, Hey. Evan i'll tell you WHAT
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: i was ahead of the curve WHEN i thought WHEN
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: i asked you, GUYS i au if you guys were
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: excited About Jared wolfson coming back that he was on you,
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: know he didn't practice on the, spring and if you
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: guys thought he would want a starting, job guys kind
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: of tempered those, expectations but now those those are full.
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: Fledged so on that same, token AND i Know i'm
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: looking far, ahead why not Put Christian gondals on Brock
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: powers in week? One that makes the most sense to
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: me because if you look at their skill position, players
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: there's nobody that really as a game breaker other Than.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: Bowers that's ALL i. Got i'll take it out, there, Thanks.
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: Patty SO i agree with you THAT i think it's
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: in play that one of the corners takes Brock, powers
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: especially on third.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: Down i'm with. YOU i Think Carlton, davis long, arms physical.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: GUY i think he's more of a pure matchup for.
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: That BUT i will what one hundred, PERCENT i almost
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: expect him third, down, pass third and. PASS i expect
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: one Of gonzales Or davis to be On. BOWERS i
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: expect him to treat him as a basically as a wide.
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: Receiver riley is In. Phoenix what's? Up?
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: Riley hey, guys how's it going?
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: Good?
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: Hey so two quick. Questions i'm not sure if you.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: Already they're not my work, here so trying and.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: Do my best to keep. Up but what are we
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: seen With Marcus epps And Marty.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: Maphu, yeah thanks for the, Call. Riley so he Mentioned
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: depp's a little. Bit he's been in that third safety
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: free safety. MIX i don't think that's necessarily a role
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: where you're gonna see a lot of splash plays from that.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: Position it's more of Like Toron harmon be in the
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: right spot kind of. Role but That's, epps map who's
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: been playing linebacker a. Lot would for now with the
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: second unit at, times but mainly THAT i would say,
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: that you, Know toby is not out, there so it's
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: hard to, say you, know If tavai was, here would
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: it Be gibbins And, tavai you, know as the next
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: two right on the field instead Of gibbons And. Mapu
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: but that's where they're. Repping at Least mapu made some
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: plays against.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: The run the other.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: DAY i marked him down for a couple of, stuffs
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: so he was in there a few. Times BUT i
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: wouldn't say either one of those guys has like, flashed you,
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: know to a point Where i'm like talking about.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: Him he still feels like he's probably on the on the. Bubble,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: yeah and Then epps's had played enough THAT i think
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: he's gonna make the, team but, yeah he hasn't necessarily
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: had any big standout.
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: Place All, Right randy is In. Providence what's, Up randy going?
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Once?
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Randy All, RIGHT i left those guys on hole for
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: like over an, hour So i'm not. Surprised all, Right
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: so that's gonna do it for today's. SHOW a little
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: bit of an abbreviated episode today Because alex is just

- 1:27:31Speaker 2: compete for his time this time of, year and that's
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: hard to.
