Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The next segment we're going to do is called Second
- 0:02Speaker 1: Date Update.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Because that's what we're going to try and get, and
- 0:05Speaker 2: that's what the bit is called.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Second Date Update starts right now.
- 0:09Speaker 4: On John Jay and Rich.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Marina, good morning.
- 0:12Speaker 4: You're on the air.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hey, John Jay and Rich. I have a question for you.
- 0:16Speaker 1: It's a little debate that I've been having with my friends,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and I'm curious about your opinion.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:22Speaker 3: What happened?
- 0:23Speaker 1: So I'm sorry, but if a guy asks me out
- 0:26Speaker 1: on a date, And he's asking me to go somewhere
- 0:28Speaker 1: where we're obviously going to have drinks. I 100% think
- 0:33Speaker 1: that this guy should be paying for my Uber there
- 0:36Speaker 1: and back.
- 0:37Speaker 5: Right?
- 0:38Speaker 1: I mean, to me, that's part of asking someone on
- 0:41Speaker 1: a date is caring about how I'm going to get
- 0:43Speaker 1: there in the first place. When you're inviting me out,
- 0:46Speaker 1: you're choosing to pursue me. I mean, so yeah, I
- 0:51Speaker 1: think making sure that I get there home safely, that
- 0:55Speaker 1: is a huge part.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Of the deal.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And I told my friends about this.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Did he offer to come pick you up?
- 1:02Speaker 1: No, nothing.
- 1:04Speaker 2: No.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's all like my friends. I told them
- 1:08Speaker 1: about it and I told them I'm not going to
- 1:09Speaker 1: see this guy again because he didn't even offer to
- 1:12Speaker 1: get my Uber. And they're the ones asking, acting like
- 1:15Speaker 1: I'm being high maintenance. I don't think I'm being high maintenance.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I think that the dating has gotten so casual and
- 1:23Speaker 1: the bar has gotten so low that we've removed the
- 1:26Speaker 1: bar and we've convinced ourselves that basic effort is asking
- 1:30Speaker 1: for too much. Well, for me, it's a non-negotiable. If
- 1:33Speaker 1: you ask me out, the Uber is on you.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Interesting.
- 1:36Speaker 3: This has been a debate I've seen like on Reddit
- 1:39Speaker 3: or something like that. This is the thing now. And
- 1:41Speaker 3: it used to not be like back in the day,
- 1:43Speaker 3: back in the day before Uber, when you ask somebody
- 1:45Speaker 3: on a date, Wouldn't you just go in your own
- 1:47Speaker 3: car and meet somebody on a date?
- 1:49Speaker 6: Well, if you're talking about way back in the day,
- 1:51Speaker 6: your date would pick you up, but that's not always
- 1:53Speaker 6: safe these days.
- 1:55Speaker 5: If you're uncomfortable with giving him your address, well, you
- 1:58Speaker 5: gave him your address for the Uber. So that takes
- 2:01Speaker 5: that out of it. You're saying it's your first date, right?
- 2:04Speaker 5: This guy and you have never gone out before. And
- 2:06Speaker 5: you know you're going to go to a place where
- 2:08Speaker 5: you probably are going to drink a lot. You're saying
- 2:10Speaker 5: if you care enough about me to ask me out
- 2:12Speaker 5: to go to a bar, you should cover the drinks
- 2:15Speaker 5: and the Uber there and back.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Okay, so I have a question.
- 2:18Speaker 6: So you told your friends you're not going to go
- 2:20Speaker 6: out with this guy again. Was the rest of the
- 2:22Speaker 6: date spectacular and it's literally just that, that he didn't
- 2:26Speaker 6: pay for your Uber? Or were you already kind of
- 2:28Speaker 6: not liking him and then he didn't pay for the
- 2:30Speaker 6: Uber and you're like, that's it?
- 2:31Speaker 1: No, I mean, the date was actually, like, pretty nice.
- 2:33Speaker 1: He's funny. He was nice. You know, but to me, like,
- 2:37Speaker 1: that's not enough. Because when you get down to it,
- 2:41Speaker 1: those things kind of fade once you start having problems.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You know, and I think that that's just kind of, like,
- 2:47Speaker 1: the beginning. If somebody doesn't have the, like, the, like,
- 2:51Speaker 1: awareness for my safety from the get-go, I think there's
- 2:54Speaker 1: going to be other things down the line that I'm going.
- 2:56Speaker 3: To have to coach.
- 2:58Speaker 7: You want, like, a... You want a guy that's going to, like,
- 3:00Speaker 7: think before, you know, and be ahead of the game
- 3:03Speaker 7: a little bit and be a little courteous before, you know,
- 3:05Speaker 7: you even think about it.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I get it.
- 3:07Speaker 4: I understand.
- 3:07Speaker 7: I probably wouldn't be like, I'm never going to see
- 3:10Speaker 7: him again. But it would be a nice gesture if
- 3:13Speaker 7: you did it.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Just so I.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Understand, are you mad that he didn't offer or did
- 3:17Speaker 5: you ask and he said no?
- 3:19Speaker 1: No, I'm mad that he didn't even offer. If I
- 3:22Speaker 1: asked and he said no, I absolutely would not have
- 3:24Speaker 1: met up with him.
- 3:25Speaker 3: That's fair. Okay, so now this is a guy you
- 3:27Speaker 3: go out with. He doesn't offer. And now you're ghosting him? Like,
- 3:31Speaker 3: have you, has he reached out to you? Did he
- 3:32Speaker 3: have a good time? Does he know you're upset?
- 3:34Speaker 1: No, I don't know what he thinks or what he feels,
- 3:37Speaker 1: but I feel like at our age, he should already
- 3:41Speaker 1: have been like, oh, that's something I probably should have done.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Would you be, I would love to hear his point
- 3:46Speaker 3: of view on this. When was the last time you
- 3:48Speaker 3: went out with this guy or saw this guy? When
- 3:50Speaker 3: was his date?
- 3:51Speaker 1: Probably a couple weeks ago.
- 3:54Speaker 3: So, has he reached out to you?
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 3: And you just ghost him?
- 3:58Speaker 2: He has.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I just stopped responding.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Would you be opposed to us calling him? I'd like
- 4:02Speaker 3: to get his... I wonder if he knows.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what? I am curious.
- 4:06Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Because I mean, just my opinion, I don't think that's...
- 4:10Speaker 3: You ask someone to go on a date, you meet
- 4:13Speaker 3: at the movie or you meet at the restaurant, you
- 4:15Speaker 3: kind of get there on your own.
- 4:16Speaker 4: It's weird.
- 4:16Speaker 5: It's like, I think I would probably offer to pay
- 4:19Speaker 5: and then I don't know how I'd feel if she
- 4:21Speaker 5: demanded I pay for the Uber.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I don't know how I'd feel. I guess it depends
- 4:25Speaker 3: on how into the person you are. So can you
- 4:26Speaker 3: hold on for a second and we'll get his number
- 4:28Speaker 3: from you and call him Yeah, that's fine. What is
- 4:30Speaker 3: his name?
- 4:31Speaker 1: Julian.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Okay, hold on for one second. Got to call this
- 4:35Speaker 3: guy and find out. I mean, this is interesting to
- 4:37Speaker 3: give you a different point of view of, like, we're
- 4:40Speaker 3: kind of forcing a second date. It's like a backwards
- 4:42Speaker 3: second date update.
- 4:43Speaker 4: He has no idea why he's being ghosted.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I wonder if he's even thought about it. No, he
- 4:46Speaker 3: hasn't thought about it. So hold on. We're going to
- 4:48Speaker 3: call Julian to find out what he's going through right now.
- 4:52Speaker 3: It's an impromptu second date update. This is next with
- 4:55Speaker 3: John Jane Rich.
- 4:55Speaker 2: John!
- 4:57Speaker 3: Kind of in the middle of an interesting second date update,
- 4:59Speaker 3: we got Marina on the line. She just called to
- 5:00Speaker 3: tell us, right, Marina, you were saying, if you go
- 5:02Speaker 3: on a date with a guy, he should pay for
- 5:04Speaker 3: the Uber, right?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:06Speaker 3: First date. You went on a first date with Julian.
- 5:09Speaker 3: He didn't pay for the Uber. You had a good
- 5:11Speaker 3: time on the date, but they pissed you off that
- 5:13Speaker 3: he didn't pay for your Uber or offer to pay.
- 5:16Speaker 3: That is correct. And you've ghosted him since, and it
- 5:18Speaker 3: was a couple weeks ago.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't love the term ghosting, but I guess
- 5:22Speaker 1: that's what happened.
- 5:22Speaker 3: All right, so we're going to get him on the phone. Actually,
- 5:25Speaker 3: he's ready to go on the phone. Okay, good. Hold
- 5:26Speaker 3: on for one second. Let's patch him through. Patch him through. Hey, Julian.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Hello?
- 5:32Speaker 3: Hey, this is John Jane Rich. Okay, yeah. So we
- 5:36Speaker 3: took a call from a woman, and she was kind
- 5:39Speaker 3: of talking about dating. And she said that she will
- 5:42Speaker 3: never date a guy again if he doesn't pay for
- 5:44Speaker 3: the Uber. And the story is, you're the guy she
- 5:48Speaker 3: went out with. and you didn't offer to pay for
- 5:50Speaker 3: the Uber, and she's ghosting you. So have you been
- 5:53Speaker 3: ghosted by anybody recently?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that to me is ridiculous. You know, honestly, I
- 5:57Speaker 2: had no idea why she ghosted me. You know, it
- 6:00Speaker 2: came out of nowhere, but now that you're saying that, honestly,
- 6:04Speaker 2: I think that's absolutely insane.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Okay, so who ghosted you? Let's make sure we're talking
- 6:07Speaker 3: about the right person, or maybe you get ghosted by everybody.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Marina.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Yes, that's it.
- 6:12Speaker 7: Yes.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 3: So she's ghosting you because you didn't offer to pay
- 6:15Speaker 3: for her Uber, by the way.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's... that's honestly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Sorry.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I mean, that's just, I mean, I didn't know why
- 6:24Speaker 2: she goes to me. I thought things went pretty good.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You know, I mean, I checked in with her a
- 6:28Speaker 2: couple of days later, just trying to see if she
- 6:30Speaker 2: was good. I got nothing back. And, you know, I
- 6:32Speaker 2: wasn't going to just keep blowing up her phone or
- 6:34Speaker 2: hounding her or anything. So, you know, I thought we
- 6:37Speaker 2: were on the same page, but clearly we are not
- 6:39Speaker 2: on the same page because that is, First of all,
- 6:43Speaker 2: she didn't even mention that at all. So I would
- 6:46Speaker 2: have had to imagine that out of air. This woman
- 6:49Speaker 2: wants me to pay for her Uber, obviously. Had no idea.
- 6:53Speaker 2: And secondly, even if she had asked me, I would
- 6:57Speaker 2: have told her she was out of her damn mind.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Wait, didn't you drink together?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 7: So you don't feel like that's maybe a nice thing
- 7:06Speaker 7: to do for your date? Like if you're going to
- 7:08Speaker 7: go and get her all liquored up?
- 7:10Speaker 3: I think on the way, at the end of the date,
- 7:12Speaker 3: you're drinking, you're like, oh man, you're too drunk. You know, hey,
- 7:14Speaker 3: let me get your Uber. But to set up a date,
- 7:16Speaker 3: you call somebody, you meet somebody on an app or
- 7:18Speaker 3: whatever it is, and you're like, hey, would you like
- 7:19Speaker 3: to go to dinner next week? Yeah, absolutely. Okay, let's
- 7:21Speaker 3: go to this restaurant and meet you there at seven.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I can't say it. we'll go to this restaurant, meet
- 7:25Speaker 3: you there at seven. What's your address? I'll send an
- 7:26Speaker 3: Uber to pick you up. I think that seems a
- 7:28Speaker 3: little too, I'd wait.
- 7:29Speaker 6: I understand the getting there.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Oh, heck yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 6: I understand that you got to get there on your own,
- 7:34Speaker 6: but yes, I think it would be like kind of
- 7:37Speaker 6: nice if you were drinking and you went to New York.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Then you should have offered.
- 7:41Speaker 6: But the fact like, I kind of wish Julian was like,
- 7:43Speaker 6: oh yeah, that would have been a really great idea.
- 7:45Speaker 6: Like I've, but like his reaction makes me feel like
- 7:48Speaker 6: I think Marina was onto something.
- 7:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 3: By the way, Marina.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Is this the standard out there?
- 7:54Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know. We're figuring it out.
- 7:57Speaker 3: We're trying to figure it out, but Marina's on the phone.
- 7:59Speaker 3: And Marina, here's the guy you ghosted.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Hi, Julian. Marina is on the phone. Marina heard everything.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And I'm sorry, but Julian just proved my point exactly.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Because as nice as someone can be, and Julian, you
- 8:15Speaker 1: are very nice. I had a great time. I'm not
- 8:18Speaker 1: going to lie. I am sorry for the ghosting. However,
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm not sorry that I have enough discernment to see
- 8:27Speaker 1: what this would be down the line, because I'm not
- 8:29Speaker 1: in this to build a boyfriend. You know, I've done
- 8:32Speaker 1: this way too long. And if something as basic as
- 8:37Speaker 1: not even offering to get my Uber is just the
- 8:40Speaker 1: beginning of That would be a whole other slew of
- 8:44Speaker 1: problems where I would have to teach you along the
- 8:46Speaker 1: way just basic chivalry. The fact that basic chivalry to
- 8:50Speaker 1: you is the dumbest thing that you've ever heard, huge
- 8:54Speaker 1: red flag. That's a red flag factory.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You said you've been doing this a lot. You've been
- 8:59Speaker 2: dating a long time?
- 9:00Speaker 3: You've been dating?
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Been dating since I was a teenager.
- 9:03Speaker 2: So you're still single? Ooh.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Are you? Ooh.
- 9:08Speaker 2: No, I'm already seeing someone else.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Oh.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Oh, I don't love you.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I got it.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I got it in a row.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 6: I just said, I just, I don't love Julian.
- 9:20Speaker 5: The thing that bugged you, the thing that bugged you gave,
- 9:23Speaker 5: gave way to a lot of other stuff about Julian.
- 9:25Speaker 4: So you picked up on something right away. Cause I
- 9:28Speaker 4: can't imagine.
- 9:28Speaker 1: We're just adding fuel to the fire because he's already
- 9:31Speaker 1: dating someone else, but I have text messages from him
- 9:34Speaker 1: three days in a row. So that's weird.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Yeah, Julie, I can't imagine somebody, hey, I'm a little buzzed.
- 9:41Speaker 5: I need to get a ride home and you not
- 9:43Speaker 5: offer to pay. That is kind of– I think that's
- 9:45Speaker 5: not the story. The story is it wasn't she got buzzed.
- 9:49Speaker 5: It was, hey, we're going to go on a date
- 9:51Speaker 5: before you even know you're going.
- 9:52Speaker 3: To get drunk.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I get that. It's like– I'm trying to give him
- 9:55Speaker 4: an out and he's not even taking the out.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I think we all agree that she gets drunk on
- 9:59Speaker 3: the way. way home, you pay for the Uber, but
- 10:01Speaker 3: going on a first date with someone, I think saying,
- 10:03Speaker 3: I'm going to pay for your Uber.
- 10:04Speaker 6: Yeah, but Julian didn't agree with that.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:07Speaker 2: We all agree. To go get blasted or anything, this
- 10:12Speaker 2: is a first date. We're going to meet for drinks,
- 10:16Speaker 2: a couple of drinks. I drove You know, and she
- 10:21Speaker 2: didn't even say, oh, you know, she was just like,
- 10:23Speaker 2: all right, well, I'm going to order my Uber, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 2: and head home. And I'm like, OK, it was really
- 10:30Speaker 2: nice to see you. You know, have a good night,
- 10:32Speaker 2: you know, and nothing in my mind was like, oh,
- 10:36Speaker 2: I need to make sure to cover this girl's Uber.
- 10:39Speaker 2: I even paid for some of the drinks. I didn't
- 10:41Speaker 2: pay for all the drinks.
- 10:41Speaker 3: You did?
- 10:43Speaker 4: Oh, man, I'm liking you less and less.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 4: You didn't pay. You didn't cover the date.
- 10:47Speaker 5: It's hard.
- 10:47Speaker 3: It's hard to be on his side. If you keep this.
- 10:51Speaker 3: like there's so much more on this date now that's
- 10:54Speaker 3: caused it to go sideways. But if, is it like,
- 10:56Speaker 3: if you're going on a first date, does the guy
- 10:59Speaker 3: pay for the Uber?
- 11:00Speaker 4: He asked her out.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:01Speaker 3: He pays for the Uber. That's an automatic.
- 11:03Speaker 4: She doesn't have a way to get there.
- 11:04Speaker 3: But now you're adding something else to the story. If
- 11:06Speaker 3: she doesn't have a way to get there. If you
- 11:07Speaker 3: meet somebody, if you go on a dating app and
- 11:09Speaker 3: you ask to go on a date and we're going
- 11:10Speaker 3: to go meet at this restaurant at seven o'clock.
- 11:12Speaker 6: Does it change if you're meeting at a bar and
- 11:15Speaker 6: you know, there's going to.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Be alcohol involved. Well, then that's changing it still. I'm
- 11:19Speaker 3: going to be, it's a date. It's a date at
- 11:20Speaker 3: a restaurant. Most likely it's a date at a restaurant. Whatever,
- 11:23Speaker 3: she's saying date no matter what. She's not like, it's
- 11:26Speaker 3: a date at a restaurant. First date, I'm on a
- 11:28Speaker 3: dating app. We're going to go meet at this restaurant,
- 11:30Speaker 3: at Chili's at seven o'clock. Is the guy supposed to say,
- 11:33Speaker 3: let me send you an Uber? That's nice if he does.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Let me tell you something.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I know a couple of guys that have tried to
- 11:39Speaker 2: pay for a girl that they met on Tinder. The
- 11:42Speaker 2: girl was like, well, I can't really get there, but
- 11:45Speaker 2: if you could send me money for my Uber. And
- 11:47Speaker 2: so they sent 20, 30 bucks and never heard from
- 11:50Speaker 2: that girl again.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Well, again, that's part of that's adding to the story.
- 11:54Speaker 3: But I think on the basic, if you're going on
- 11:56Speaker 3: a first date with somebody, is it the guy's job
- 11:58Speaker 3: to say, is it obligation? I think it's probably nice
- 12:00Speaker 3: of him to do that. But it's also, you know,
- 12:03Speaker 3: he doesn't have to show up at the date. That's
- 12:04Speaker 3: like a girl saying, hey, I went on a date
- 12:06Speaker 3: with a guy and he didn't bring me flowers. He
- 12:08Speaker 3: should have brought me flowers.
- 12:09Speaker 4: That's true. You make a point.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Like, you know, I just feel it. So it's a big,
- 12:12Speaker 3: and by the way, every phone line is lit up
- 12:14Speaker 3: right now, you guys. Apparently it's a big controversy.
- 12:17Speaker 5: 877-937-1047.
- 12:22Speaker 2: For her, have been offering her Ubers, or maybe that's
- 12:24Speaker 2: the reason why she's still single. She's got a very
- 12:26Speaker 2: impossibly high standard, and most guys are not going to
- 12:29Speaker 2: meet her. But, you know, good luck to you. Maybe
- 12:31Speaker 2: there's one out there.
- 12:32Speaker 1: And maybe you're still single because the bar is so
- 12:34Speaker 1: low that the world has just removed the bar.
- 12:39Speaker 2: I told you I'm not single.
- 12:40Speaker 4: I'm single.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And then I'm trying to.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 12:43Speaker 3: He's moved on.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'm sure I would be... No, I would be holding
- 12:46Speaker 1: the door open for you, I am sure. And a
- 12:48Speaker 1: few months in, I would be paying for your drinks.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You're making yourself look real icky.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Okay, so listen. So I asked you if we could
- 12:58Speaker 3: call Julian. This isn't part of what is going to happen,
- 13:01Speaker 3: because this is now a second date update, unintentionally. Would
- 13:04Speaker 3: you like to go out on a second date? We'll
- 13:06Speaker 3: pay for it, and we'll even pay for the Uber.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I'm going to let this genius guess if I'm going
- 13:10Speaker 1: to be there for a second date or not.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Well, he's got things.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Do you think I'm going to be there for a
- 13:14Speaker 1: second date?
- 13:16Speaker 2: I can't go on a second date. I'm seeing somebody else.
- 13:18Speaker 3: All right.
- 13:20Speaker 2: All right.
- 13:20Speaker 4: So no second date. He's a one-woman man.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Disaster. All right, you guys. Thanks for jumping on the
- 13:26Speaker 3: air with us, both of you. Thank you for calling in, Marina.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Thanks for bringing this debate to us. It's a huge
- 13:32Speaker 3: debate right now. We'll get to it next. It's John
- 13:33Speaker 3: Jay and Richard.
