Two very common ones: dog and cat. Luna: Oh, I love animals! I have a cat at home. Can I say that in Amharic? Lucas: Absolutely! And by the end of this episode, you will. Let's start with the words themselves. Lucas: Dog in Amharic is ውሻ. Say it with me: ውሻ. Luna: ውሻ. Lucas: Good! One more time: ውሻ. Luna: ውሻ. Lucas: Perfect. Now cat: ድመት. Luna: ድመት. Lucas: Great. ድመት. Luna: ድመት. They sound so different. I like them. Lucas: They are nice words. Now, let's make a sentence. Remember from earlier episodes how to say 'I have'? We use አለኝ. Luna: Right! Like 'I have a brother' we learned in family episode. ወንድም አለኝ. Lucas: Exactly! So 'I have a dog' is ውሻ አለኝ. Say it with me: ውሻ አለኝ. Luna: ውሻ አለኝ. Lucas: Good. Now 'I have a cat' is ድመት አለኝ. Luna: ድመት አለኝ. Lucas: Excellent! Let's try both. Repeat after me: ውሻ አለኝ. Luna: ውሻ አለኝ. Lucas: ድመት አለኝ. Luna: ድመት አለኝ. Lucas: You got it! So Luna, do you have a dog or a cat? Luna: I have a cat! So I say ድመት አለኝ. Let me practice: ድመት አለኝ. Lucas: Perfect. And I have a dog. So I say ውሻ አለኝ. Luna: So if I want to ask someone 'Do you have a dog?', how do I say that? Lucas: Great question. For now, let's just focus on saying 'I have'. We'll cover questions in a future episode. But you can say 'I have a dog' confidently. Luna: Okay, so let's practice more. ውሻ አለኝ. ድመት አለኝ. I think I've got it. Lucas: Let's do a quick scene. Imagine you meet a friend and they ask about pets. You say ድመት አለኝ. Try it. Luna: ድመት አለኝ. Lucas: And I say ውሻ አለኝ. Now you tell me: what do you have? Luna: I have a cat: ድመት አለኝ. Lucas: There you go. Let's do a quick review. Say the words for dog and cat. Luna: Dog is ውሻ, cat is ድመት. And 'I have a dog' is ውሻ አለኝ.
