Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily, where I don't think Caleb Williams
- 0:10Speaker 1: is gonna make another life changing play again this season,
- 0:13Speaker 1: but you never know, Like at this point, he makes
- 0:16Speaker 1: the impossible possible. I'm Greg Rosenthal in the Chris Westling
- 0:20Speaker 1: podcast studio. I'm with my friend Patrick Clayback.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Nick Shook is joining us from Cleveland. The Divisional round
- 0:29Speaker 2: was a banger. Conference Championship weekend is gonna have a
- 0:33Speaker 2: lot to live up to, Nick Shook. We know what
- 0:37Speaker 2: the championship games are gonna be, and yes, the Bears
- 0:39Speaker 2: are not gonna be.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Involved in it.
- 0:41Speaker 2: And yet even though they lost in this game, I
- 0:43Speaker 2: still can't like move past that one last Caleb movement
- 0:47Speaker 2: that he gave us earlier tonight.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it's only right that it ended that way.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Of course, you don't want, you know, Bears fans to
- 0:53Speaker 4: have their hearts broken, as they too often have, But
- 0:56Speaker 4: it's only right that they had another miraculous play on
- 0:59Speaker 4: a fourth for gotta have it situation that pays off
- 1:03Speaker 4: and gives them one last thrill to basically put a
- 1:06Speaker 4: caper on what was a thrill filled twenty twenty five season,
- 1:10Speaker 4: The great debut for the Ben Johnson Era and plenty
- 1:12Speaker 4: to look forward to for this fan base.
- 1:14Speaker 5: In classic no No, No, No, Yes form where Caleb
- 1:17Speaker 5: instantly starts to retreat and spins back and it's like,
- 1:20Speaker 5: oh no, it's all gonna be for naught, and then
- 1:23Speaker 5: magic that ultimately fizzles out. But living in those moments
- 1:26Speaker 5: is what makes this whole enterprise.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yes so special, I know, And I got Eric Roberts,
- 1:34Speaker 2: he's recovered. We love you, Eric from that that thing
- 1:37Speaker 2: we won't talk about that happened on Saturday, involving your
- 1:40Speaker 2: team yelling at me. It's like, we're gonna get to
- 1:42Speaker 2: that play. We're gonna talk about the play. But sometimes
- 1:44Speaker 2: plays and themes of a season we can't even wait
- 1:47Speaker 2: to get into. And Caleb Williams and these plays that
- 1:50Speaker 2: he's made at the end of these games.
- 1:52Speaker 1: To me are like the number one theme of this season.
- 1:55Speaker 2: And yet it was the Rams, resourceful as ever, who
- 2:00Speaker 2: found a way to get it done in that cold for.
- 2:03Speaker 3: The rookie Harrison Mivas on the hold of Eathan Evans.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Here it comes to send the Rams to Seattle for the.
- 2:10Speaker 6: NFC Championship game.
- 2:13Speaker 7: It's good.
- 2:17Speaker 8: To Rams win.
- 2:18Speaker 3: It's twenty to seventeen in over time.
- 2:25Speaker 1: A great call by our friend JB.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Long, who's making that long flight back from Chicago on
- 2:33Speaker 2: Sunday night with our friend Maurice Jones Drew, and they're
- 2:36Speaker 2: going to be making another flight up the coast to
- 2:39Speaker 2: Seattle for the NFC Championship game next Sunday.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Harrison mevs.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Before getting bleeped on NBC after the game that was controversial,
- 2:51Speaker 2: finishes out a crazy game that had a little bit
- 2:56Speaker 2: of everything, twenty to seventeen the Rams win. I'm going
- 3:00Speaker 2: to do something different here, Patrick and Nick. We're each
- 3:03Speaker 2: going to have one overarching thought, Oh my God, of
- 3:08Speaker 2: this game, like a takeaway before we get into everything.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I'm putting you on the spot, what is your takeaway
- 3:16Speaker 2: from this entire affair?
- 3:18Speaker 5: Okay, so around eighty plays for the starters on both teams,
- 3:22Speaker 5: I think you altered the results on fifteen of those
- 3:24Speaker 5: individual plays get a different end result. It's equal parts
- 3:28Speaker 5: frustrating as well as fantastic because those are the stakes
- 3:31Speaker 5: in a single elimination playoff game, and I hope, in
- 3:33Speaker 5: our everlasting search, Greg are for that one particular.
- 3:37Speaker 9: Thing to take away from the game.
- 3:39Speaker 5: We pull back our focus and we're able to turn
- 3:41Speaker 5: the resolution up and see that the forest is the trees,
- 3:45Speaker 5: the individual aspects that make all of this.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Well, that's why I'm getting three different takeaways to start,
- 3:51Speaker 2: just three umbrella takeaways.
- 3:53Speaker 1: As we get going, what about you shuk.
- 3:56Speaker 4: This was a classic case of a football game that
- 3:58Speaker 4: was included many phases. It included a first half in
- 4:01Speaker 4: which the Bears didn't capitalize on what I thought was
- 4:04Speaker 4: a better half of performance than their opposition, the Rams.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yet you're tied at ten. It's basically a slog of
- 4:10Speaker 4: a third quarter, early fourth quarter. The Rams finally find
- 4:13Speaker 4: their rhythm, get into the end zone, and it takes
- 4:15Speaker 4: a miracle for the Bears.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Naturally.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I think that it was a perfect example of how
- 4:18Speaker 4: football is truly a fourth quarter and sometimes extra period
- 4:21Speaker 4: story and why it is the most popular sport in
- 4:24Speaker 4: this nation.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and the reason I started even with that, like
- 4:28Speaker 2: mentioning that Caleb play was Yet, I mean, Roger Goodell
- 4:31Speaker 2: has to be sad to see this. Caleb Williams, Ben
- 4:35Speaker 2: Johnson team go. Because we've been doing this a while,
- 4:39Speaker 2: there's never been anything quite like the end of this
- 4:42Speaker 2: Bear season.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Not really.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I mean, if you go back to the Week sixteen
- 4:47Speaker 2: game against the Packers and how that ended. I mean,
- 4:50Speaker 2: first of all, he has the most you know, comeback
- 4:52Speaker 2: fourth quarter wins in the history of the league, so
- 4:55Speaker 2: literally that hasn't happened. But the combination of what he
- 4:57Speaker 2: did in Week eighteen and then throughout these playoffs in
- 5:02Speaker 2: Week sixty, like, I can't remember a ride we've ever
- 5:05Speaker 2: been on like this. But my takeaway, so I guess
- 5:08Speaker 2: that was kind of too. I'm jamming it in there.
- 5:10Speaker 1: That's what you do as a host.
- 5:13Speaker 2: My takeaway is that, like the Rams defense kept giving
- 5:16Speaker 2: Matthew Stafford enough chances to eventually do the thing that
- 5:19Speaker 2: Matthew Stafford does. And I think that gets to your
- 5:21Speaker 2: point too, to both of your points that it is
- 5:24Speaker 2: a fourth quarter, overtime game. It had so many swings,
- 5:26Speaker 2: but we're gonna get to the Patriots Texans. I should
- 5:28Speaker 2: have mentioned the AFC championship that happened is set as well,
- 5:33Speaker 2: but I found some similarities here where the two leading
- 5:39Speaker 2: MVP candidates both didn't play their best games on Sunday.
- 5:42Speaker 2: But it is a team sport, and particularly for Stafford,
- 5:45Speaker 2: who I think had his worst game of the entire
- 5:46Speaker 2: season today, he was picked up by his defense like
- 5:53Speaker 2: he's picked up his teammates and his defense so many
- 5:56Speaker 2: times this season. And eventually the play calling in the
- 6:00Speaker 2: fourth quarter from Sean McVay and then the execution, especially
- 6:04Speaker 2: by Stafford in the overtime drive. They kept giving him
- 6:06Speaker 2: chances and eventually he did the thing that Matthew Stafford
- 6:09Speaker 2: does and he steals your soul.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it was great performances, especially the entire Bears secondary.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Deshaun Wright had better coverage on Devonte Adams for almost
- 6:18Speaker 5: the entire game for a crucial great throw and catch
- 6:21Speaker 5: from Stafford to Adams on the game winning mevs.
- 6:24Speaker 9: Excuse me MeVis field goal drive.
- 6:27Speaker 5: I've been thinking about it all night and I loved
- 6:29Speaker 5: it on the first try. But in terms of like
- 6:32Speaker 5: the game by Jakwon Brisker, the game by Kyler Gordon,
- 6:36Speaker 5: it was over and over again the Bears defense putting
- 6:40Speaker 5: Stafford in these disadvantageous positions were you know, maybe throwing
- 6:45Speaker 5: the balls not the right circumstance, but they're gonna dance
- 6:49Speaker 5: with who brung him and he's been great all year.
- 6:52Speaker 9: Just a great defensive performance tonight. They came up a
- 6:54Speaker 9: touch shot.
- 6:55Speaker 2: You made a face shook when I said I thought
- 6:57Speaker 2: it was the worst Stafford performance of the of the season.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah, why do you disagree?
- 7:02Speaker 3: You're wrong?
- 7:03Speaker 4: His worst performance was in Atlanta at the end, near
- 7:05Speaker 4: the end of the season. There was a terrible game
- 7:07Speaker 4: they had that day. This was not close to that.
- 7:08Speaker 4: But what this was a great example of why the
- 7:11Speaker 4: playoffs are so captivating, and especially this year, because this
- 7:13Speaker 4: game mirrored a lot of what we saw in Denver yesterday,
- 7:16Speaker 4: which was coaches making adjustments and basically reacting to what
- 7:21Speaker 4: one team dictating to the other and then then taking
- 7:23Speaker 4: the power back. And in this instance, it was Dennis
- 7:26Speaker 4: Allen blitzing Matthew Stafford off the edge with the defensive
- 7:29Speaker 4: backs giving him looks that he wasn't accustomed to or
- 7:32Speaker 4: wasn't comfortable with. They couldn't throw the football even though
- 7:34Speaker 4: outside of their first early scoring drive, and they stuck
- 7:37Speaker 4: to it. And then it's Sean mcvagh getting the halftime
- 7:39Speaker 4: and almost listening to the NBC halftime show, and they're
- 7:41Speaker 4: all sitting at the desk, Jason Garrett, Tony Dungee, and
- 7:43Speaker 4: they're all just like, run the ball more.
- 7:45Speaker 3: And what did you do?
- 7:46Speaker 4: They come out, they run the ball more and they
- 7:47Speaker 4: get back on track a chess match, a back while
- 7:51Speaker 4: playoff football.
- 7:51Speaker 3: So good, we.
- 7:52Speaker 9: Got laid to the fourth course.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, I think I don't know if he
- 7:55Speaker 2: was watching the halftime live. Maybe they played it to
- 7:58Speaker 2: him like right at the end of the third quarter
- 8:00Speaker 2: or so, because it's it still took him a while. Yeah,
- 8:03Speaker 2: there was like a seven drive sequence where they had
- 8:06Speaker 2: eighty nine total yards on thirty one place six first
- 8:10Speaker 2: downs in a seven drive sequence, and at that point
- 8:13Speaker 2: of the game they had thrown the ball thirty four times,
- 8:18Speaker 2: they had run it eleven times. Maybe he actually was
- 8:22Speaker 2: on Blue Sky, because that's the moment where I sent
- 8:25Speaker 2: out something of like, yeah, they've despite having like a
- 8:29Speaker 2: fifty four percent success rate so far to that point
- 8:32Speaker 2: in the game, it would been thirty four to eleven
- 8:34Speaker 2: in terms of passes to runs after that point when
- 8:37Speaker 2: I sent that out. Not taking credit, but you just
- 8:39Speaker 2: never know, I mean, causation correlation.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Who knows.
- 8:42Speaker 2: They only threw the ball twelve times, they ran it
- 8:45Speaker 2: twenty times, and they had a classic Kyron Williams and
- 8:49Speaker 2: Blake Korum drive that ended up resulting in a touchdown
- 8:53Speaker 2: that also included the classic puka akua fourth down play.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Let's actually listen to a question from the press conference
- 9:00Speaker 2: after the game. How about our Jordan rod Rieg in
- 9:04Speaker 2: the press conference room. He's not throwing away a questions,
- 9:06Speaker 2: He's getting to the meat of the matter.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Is there anything to take from tonight going so pass
- 9:11Speaker 1: heavy in the elements against a really good Dakeasy g Yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you know what I think?
- 9:15Speaker 10: What I I kind of mentioned it, I could have
- 9:17Speaker 10: done a much better job. And then I did think
- 9:19Speaker 10: once we were able to get some success, we settled
- 9:22Speaker 10: into a little bit of a different approach, you know,
- 9:24Speaker 10: being able to lean on the run, and then when
- 9:25Speaker 10: we were throwing it, picking up the tempo a little bit,
- 9:28Speaker 10: and I thought Matthew had a bunch of success keeping
- 9:30Speaker 10: the ball in play and guys made their plays, and
- 9:33Speaker 10: so I think overall, what I would say Jordan is
- 9:36Speaker 10: I did not like the feel for the flow of
- 9:38Speaker 10: the game that I had outside of the first you
- 9:40Speaker 10: know series, where our guys did a great job defensively.
- 9:43Speaker 10: It kept us in it in spite of how you know, poorly,
- 9:45Speaker 10: you know, poor of a job I did for our group.
- 9:48Speaker 10: But like I said, you know, I'm I'm really grateful
- 9:51Speaker 10: for this group being able to find a way stick
- 9:53Speaker 10: with it and be able to overcome some bad coaching
- 9:56Speaker 10: by me tonight.
- 9:57Speaker 5: You know, you'd like to have players who are coach
- 10:00Speaker 5: and you know that you look at the history of
- 10:02Speaker 5: Jordan Rodriy coaching up Sean McVeigh in the past. We
- 10:07Speaker 5: had an opportunity to see that past success of paying
- 10:10Speaker 5: off there and that is It's.
- 10:11Speaker 2: True because I think you had a better question because
- 10:13Speaker 2: it was Jordan asking him that question in that spot
- 10:17Speaker 2: and he understood.
- 10:17Speaker 1: It was a great answer.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And yeah, they get the ball back in the start
- 10:24Speaker 2: of the fourth quarter, like once again, their defense gets
- 10:27Speaker 2: the ball back. As as much as I want to
- 10:30Speaker 2: credit the Bears defense and Dennis Allen for having an
- 10:34Speaker 2: incredible game plan getting pressure throughout, Kevin Byerd actually told
- 10:38Speaker 2: Kimberly Martin of ESPN before the game, their whole plan
- 10:42Speaker 2: was to make Matthew Stafford one dimensional and make him
- 10:46Speaker 2: throw the ball forty or fifty times.
- 10:48Speaker 1: That's what we want to do.
- 10:49Speaker 2: He said that before the game, you know, publicly, and
- 10:51Speaker 2: that is kind of what they made him do.
- 10:54Speaker 1: But the Rams.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Defense kept getting the ball back as well. They force
- 10:59Speaker 2: upon after half time, they intercept Caleb Williams late in
- 11:02Speaker 2: the third quarter two they force another punt. That's when
- 11:05Speaker 2: the Rams get the ball back at their own nine
- 11:08Speaker 2: yard line and go on a fourteen play ninety one
- 11:11Speaker 2: yard drive that included a lot of runs, yes, but
- 11:14Speaker 2: a couple a third down conversion on a third and
- 11:17Speaker 2: six to Pukinakua, and then there was that fourth down.
- 11:20Speaker 2: And we're sitting in the newsroom and if you're watching,
- 11:24Speaker 2: you can see the fourth and one play to Pukinnakua
- 11:28Speaker 2: where it's like it's it's the call that the Rams
- 11:31Speaker 2: go to all the time on fourth and one that
- 11:35Speaker 2: sort of end around that pooka Akua gets the ball.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It's the same one. Jordan and I talk about it
- 11:40Speaker 2: all the time, and Patrick called it even before they
- 11:42Speaker 2: lined up. Oh, they're going to hand it off to
- 11:43Speaker 2: Pukaakua on this play. But you know what, they run
- 11:46Speaker 2: a different little variation of it where he goes in
- 11:48Speaker 2: motion past Stafford, reverses his field, goes back the other
- 11:53Speaker 2: way and then does a good job breaking the tackle
- 11:56Speaker 2: on thirty one.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Who is that?
- 11:59Speaker 2: That's byered in a big spot and it's crazy if
- 12:03Speaker 2: you look Schuck. Over the last few years of Rams football,
- 12:07Speaker 2: how many big moments are those wide receiver runs. And
- 12:11Speaker 2: it was an up and down game for the Puka
- 12:13Speaker 2: and Akua Matthew Stafford connection, like a lot of their
- 12:18Speaker 2: like automatics just were not happening throughout the game. But
- 12:22Speaker 2: then you think about that third down earlier in that drive.
- 12:26Speaker 2: You think about a third down where he replaces where
- 12:30Speaker 2: the blitz is coming from in overtime to Puka Nakua,
- 12:34Speaker 2: and then that fourth down too, like in the end,
- 12:36Speaker 2: the Puka Nakua Stafford connection ends up taking them home
- 12:41Speaker 2: and just getting them over the finish line.
- 12:43Speaker 4: And that's another part that's just so beautiful about football.
- 12:46Speaker 4: It so much could depend on tape study. How much
- 12:48Speaker 4: have you studied your opponent what they like to do
- 12:49Speaker 4: in certain situations, and how do they play off of that,
- 12:52Speaker 4: Because later in this game, they try to run, they
- 12:55Speaker 4: try to show as that they're going to run an
- 12:56Speaker 4: end around to Pooka again on a third and short
- 12:58Speaker 4: and they motion into the right. Then they run a
- 13:00Speaker 4: toss to the left and it gets blown up in
- 13:02Speaker 4: the backfield after Kyraen Williams, but he breaks an initial
- 13:05Speaker 4: tackle and then gets taken down right, And so it's that,
- 13:08Speaker 4: but it's also you know, I see people online immediately
- 13:10Speaker 4: after they convert that third down in overtime to Pooka.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Why are you playing off coverage, you know, eight yards
- 13:15Speaker 4: off when it's third and five? Well, because they're blitzing
- 13:17Speaker 4: and the rams are just replacing where the defender left
- 13:20Speaker 4: with the receiver for the first down. It's the back
- 13:22Speaker 4: and forth. It's the what do I think is going
- 13:24Speaker 4: to work here? What do we like to go to?
- 13:25Speaker 4: What am I anticipating that they're doing? And it's so
- 13:28Speaker 4: great that Sean McVay caught up to himself in time,
- 13:31Speaker 4: because at the end of that touchdown drive to take
- 13:32Speaker 4: a seventeen to ten lead, they show a shot of
- 13:34Speaker 4: him on the sideline and he's visibly fired up, like
- 13:37Speaker 4: let's freaking go that sort of thing, and I'm like,
- 13:39Speaker 4: you know what, he really is reveling in this moment
- 13:41Speaker 4: right now, because he's proud of himself for getting out
- 13:43Speaker 4: of a bad game, flow, calling a really good drive
- 13:46Speaker 4: and finally getting a step ahead of Dennis Allen after
- 13:48Speaker 4: you spent the entire game on your back foot because
- 13:51Speaker 4: Allen was dictating to you It's just a great thing
- 13:53Speaker 4: about football.
- 13:53Speaker 3: That's why these games are so special.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Yeah, the the picture dictates so much of what the
- 13:58Speaker 5: Rams do.
- 13:59Speaker 9: It's base on the look.
- 14:01Speaker 5: And to take that particular flow back from Dennis Allen
- 14:06Speaker 5: and say, well, why don't why don't we take an
- 14:08Speaker 5: opportunity to dictate here, because to me, it freed up
- 14:12Speaker 5: a little bit of Stafford in the passing game because
- 14:15Speaker 5: these like Kyler Gordon had the second most pressures on
- 14:19Speaker 5: the Bears. Like the Bears time to their pressure, Wow,
- 14:22Speaker 5: a lot of them was was less than less than
- 14:25Speaker 5: three seconds, Like it was getting to Stafford so quickly
- 14:29Speaker 5: where you can see it in the statistics that. Yeah,
- 14:33Speaker 5: mcveigh's right, the flow of the game and the play
- 14:34Speaker 5: calling wasn't on inside until it was.
- 14:37Speaker 2: And then and you think about in terms of going
- 14:39Speaker 2: with tempo late in the game. They also had a
- 14:42Speaker 2: good drive at the end of the second quarter to
- 14:44Speaker 2: get a field goal and that was when they had
- 14:46Speaker 2: to go tempo a minute and ten seconds left in
- 14:49Speaker 2: that game. And so that's sort of what I was
- 14:51Speaker 2: getting at when I said the defense kept giving them
- 14:53Speaker 2: chances for Sean McVay to kind of get out of
- 14:57Speaker 2: that rut because the last the last drive of regular
- 15:01Speaker 2: the drive after the Rams scored that touchdown a bit
- 15:05Speaker 2: of a fiasco. The first drive of overtime you just
- 15:09Speaker 2: mentioned one of the final plays on it, the toss
- 15:12Speaker 2: that gets stuff look like it might lose them the
- 15:15Speaker 2: game because they're giving the ball back up and all
- 15:16Speaker 2: the Bears need to do is get a field goal.
- 15:18Speaker 2: They were all in that position though, because of the play.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Let's actually listen. Let's set up once again. It's seventeen
- 15:27Speaker 2: to ten. Rams allow the Bears to drive down to
- 15:31Speaker 2: the goal line, but like for much of the day,
- 15:34Speaker 2: the Bears struggled inside the five yard line. We'll return
- 15:38Speaker 2: to that in a second. They get all the way
- 15:40Speaker 2: to fourth down until Caleb just takes it into his
- 15:43Speaker 2: own hands.
- 15:44Speaker 11: And it's fourth and four at the Ram fourteen and
- 15:48Speaker 11: then begun is the quarterback Tayleb Williams looks into the nickel,
- 15:52Speaker 11: arms out stretched, fourth down and four fourteen of the
- 15:55Speaker 11: Rams shotgun snap goes back four.
- 15:57Speaker 9: Four man rush.
- 15:58Speaker 6: He's chased, he's flushed, he's.
- 16:00Speaker 9: Hold the way back to the forty.
- 16:01Speaker 11: He's back pedaling and fills the pass and the girls
- 16:04Speaker 11: caught touchdown.
- 16:06Speaker 6: Touchdown Chandos kind of touchdown pass.
- 16:11Speaker 11: Clift Cole come out open in the corner.
- 16:14Speaker 6: If you hadn't seen it, you would not believe it.
- 16:21Speaker 6: Eighteen seconds left. He's a tendanodio.
- 16:25Speaker 9: That Soldier Field Stude's mad.
- 16:28Speaker 3: It's a Marlond banger.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Another one the best love Kevin Harlan And yeah, I could.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I could watch that play forever.
- 16:37Speaker 2: And and uh, look the way he kept running back
- 16:43Speaker 2: on that play.
- 16:45Speaker 1: It reminded me of flag football a little bit.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Occasionally you'll see in these flag like middle school leagues
- 16:52Speaker 2: there's the one kid who's just way more athletic and
- 16:55Speaker 2: better than everyone, and that's the type of stuff that
- 16:57Speaker 2: you can do. Also reminds me a little bit of
- 16:59Speaker 2: techmost Super Bowl, if you haven't you know, a good quarterback,
- 17:02Speaker 2: and you just start running backwards forever because you're you're faster.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Than he could do.
- 17:07Speaker 2: But he's doing that against Jared Verse and Braden Fisk
- 17:11Speaker 2: and Kobe Turner and then turning around and Kobe Durant
- 17:15Speaker 2: would have been sick if they lose this game because
- 17:18Speaker 2: he loses comet at the last second. But for Caleb
- 17:21Speaker 2: to throw that ball kind of blind but kind of
- 17:24Speaker 2: knowing he's there and having the confidence to do it
- 17:26Speaker 2: like that looked like it was plan a Patrick. That
- 17:29Speaker 2: was kind of what he wanted to do.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Yeah, just wanted to get enough time to have his
- 17:33Speaker 5: giant tight end match stuff with one of the smallest
- 17:35Speaker 5: people on the field and to have a weight room
- 17:38Speaker 5: moment in the back of the end zone where I
- 17:41Speaker 5: get Techmo super Bowl, I get a little game breaker
- 17:44Speaker 5: ninety eight. Yeah, with the way that all of Fisk
- 17:47Speaker 5: and Verse and Young's animations were the exact same in
- 17:51Speaker 5: Chason Caleb Williams reacting to his movements where it's I
- 17:56Speaker 5: mean he's laying on his back at the logo comet.
- 18:00Speaker 5: That's just this ball where there's it's perfect. It's a
- 18:04Speaker 5: perfect moment.
- 18:05Speaker 2: So this throw, you won't be surprised to know, was
- 18:11Speaker 2: the furthest completion on a throw made like the furthest
- 18:16Speaker 2: behind the line of scrimmage of any completion in the
- 18:18Speaker 2: NFL since the NGS era started like he went back
- 18:22Speaker 2: further and completed the pass more than any.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Throw in the NNGS era.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It also was the longest completion of any red zone throw.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Not a surprise there in terms of air yards in
- 18:35Speaker 2: the NNGS era. So that's just putting like a couple
- 18:38Speaker 2: of numbers on seeing fantastic play and Ben Johnson called
- 18:44Speaker 2: it just ridiculous afterwards. Now, in that moment, there's what
- 18:47Speaker 2: eighteen seconds left and it's seventeen to sixteen, do you
- 18:52Speaker 2: think that Ben Johnson should have gone for two shook?
- 18:56Speaker 1: And did you think you would?
- 18:58Speaker 4: I don't know if I would say I think that
- 19:00Speaker 4: he should have. I thought he was going to. I
- 19:02Speaker 4: definitely thought this is like the most aggressive coach in
- 19:05Speaker 4: the NFL. He comes from the Dan Campbelltree, one of
- 19:07Speaker 4: the most aggressive coaches in the NFL. But it was
- 19:10Speaker 4: also a great example of how within the game how
- 19:13Speaker 4: it can affect your decisions later because every time that
- 19:15Speaker 4: they went for it, whether it was in a goal
- 19:17Speaker 4: to go situation, they turned it over on downs twice
- 19:19Speaker 4: in this game, and the fourth and goal situation they
- 19:21Speaker 4: had earlier which led them to needing that throw. It
- 19:24Speaker 4: was a call that you know, it's a quick fire
- 19:26Speaker 4: pass and it gets broken up by Spates at the
- 19:29Speaker 4: goal line, and you're thinking, if that's your best play
- 19:31Speaker 4: call at that point, you probably have nothing left.
- 19:33Speaker 3: So I understand why.
- 19:34Speaker 4: You kick the pat you take it to overtime, you
- 19:36Speaker 4: think you're gonna ride the wave of momentum at home
- 19:38Speaker 4: into overtime and capitalize there. But I was a little
- 19:40Speaker 4: bit surprised, just knowing who he was, that he didn't
- 19:43Speaker 4: go for it, just because that's the type of coach
- 19:45Speaker 4: he is.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Totally understood why though. Don't disagree with it at all.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd said to Greg before the drive that this
- 19:51Speaker 5: is setting up for a two point conversion that we're
- 19:52Speaker 5: gonna have a chance to talk about for years. But
- 19:55Speaker 5: the explanation from coach Johnson makes perfect sense. It chooks
- 19:59Speaker 5: all over it. The play had already been run if
- 20:03Speaker 5: you go through like game winning two point conversion plays,
- 20:06Speaker 5: considering the stakes of the game, whatever they would have
- 20:09Speaker 5: run in that situation was probably already called.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And it wasn't executed well. As he pointed out, he
- 20:14Speaker 2: was just saying, look, they weren't clean. He wishes he
- 20:17Speaker 2: had a better plan. Our goal to go plan just
- 20:20Speaker 2: wasn't great. And if you're watching again you can see
- 20:24Speaker 2: the video. By the way, I just want people to
- 20:26Speaker 2: see this that Stacy Dale's shot of the Caleb touchdown,
- 20:30Speaker 2: which might be the finest reporter on the sideline, just
- 20:37Speaker 2: taping from their phone, hoping to get a little magic
- 20:41Speaker 2: moment every maybe the number one of the genre. Cole
- 20:44Speaker 2: Comette just swinging for the home run right into Stacy Dale's.
- 20:48Speaker 2: He was like, I'm gonna score a life changing touchdown.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Then I'm going to find Stacy Dale's and go right
- 20:54Speaker 2: into her phone.
- 20:55Speaker 5: If you're watching on Sunday Night Football, you're thinking, wow,
- 20:57Speaker 5: co Comett went right to the Sunday Night Football camera
- 20:59Speaker 5: and hit his home run celebration.
- 21:01Speaker 9: No, that was Stacy. He was doing that celebration. App Yeah,
- 21:04Speaker 9: just just off screen.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Also Stacy great master of the zoom feature on an iPhone, right,
- 21:10Speaker 4: like the little pull your thumb up, pull it down,
- 21:12Speaker 4: zoom and in, zoom out at the perfect time, he'll
- 21:14Speaker 4: cook hit her up.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Whole thing is crazy.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And I certainly don't blame Ben Johnson for not going
- 21:20Speaker 2: for two. And this is why press conference is, you know,
- 21:23Speaker 2: asking for context is perfect. That all made sense, like
- 21:27Speaker 2: his answer for and ultimately he got the ball back
- 21:31Speaker 2: in overtime, his defense got a stop that might have
- 21:34Speaker 2: played into it. He thought, He's like, I felt like,
- 21:36Speaker 2: you know, we could go win it in overtime, and
- 21:39Speaker 2: he was you know, he was right. He got the
- 21:40Speaker 2: ball back, he gets all the way to midfield in overtime.
- 21:45Speaker 2: And you do think about whether the fourth down decisions
- 21:49Speaker 2: too earlier in this game, you know, impacted Ben Johnson.
- 21:53Speaker 2: So the Bears go three for six on fourth down
- 21:57Speaker 2: in this game. Now they get a touchdown in the
- 22:00Speaker 2: first half because they go for it on fourth down
- 22:03Speaker 2: and then they get stopped another time.
- 22:05Speaker 1: You know that that's a net win. You get seven points.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Seven's better than the two, it's greater than then you
- 22:12Speaker 2: have a goal line stop of DeAndre Swift on third down.
- 22:19Speaker 2: That was a really fascinating sequence. When the Bears are
- 22:24Speaker 2: driving late in regulation, it's their second, it's their drive
- 22:27Speaker 2: before that one. They get to the goal line and
- 22:30Speaker 2: there's a back to back play sequence with DeAndre Swift
- 22:34Speaker 2: trying to get in and then a stop on fourth
- 22:38Speaker 2: down that that could have possibly like been a James
- 22:41Speaker 2: Harrison type of play for Omar Spates. What were you
- 22:44Speaker 2: thinking about, like what the Rams defense was going to
- 22:46Speaker 2: do there? Just in general, like why was it, why
- 22:50Speaker 2: was it? Why were they like what did the Rams
- 22:52Speaker 2: do specifically? I guess if you saw anything in this
- 22:54Speaker 2: game because their defense did a great job too, and
- 22:57Speaker 2: deserves a lot of credit for slowing down this Bears
- 22:59Speaker 2: attack on the ground.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Yeah, the goal line, and this is a Bears team
- 23:03Speaker 4: that runs pretty violently inside the five when they do
- 23:05Speaker 4: commit to the run on the goal line, like it's
- 23:07Speaker 4: worked against other teams in the past, and this time around,
- 23:10Speaker 4: they kind of twist Swift down short of the goal
- 23:13Speaker 4: line by I think two yards on second down. Third down,
- 23:15Speaker 4: it looks like he's gonna make it with the toss,
- 23:17Speaker 4: but the Bear successfully string it out. He tries to
- 23:19Speaker 4: go for the hurdle, then he gets blasted. Quinton Lake
- 23:22Speaker 4: flies in out of nowhere, so if you're watching on YouTube,
- 23:24Speaker 4: you can see it right now. He gets strung out
- 23:25Speaker 4: by Verse. He tries to hurdle over in next defender.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Then Quinton Lake flies in out of nowhere and blasts
- 23:30Speaker 4: him out of the air to send him down to
- 23:32Speaker 4: the ground still short of the goal line. He's gained
- 23:34Speaker 4: nothing there, and at that point you're thinking, Okay, if
- 23:36Speaker 4: you're trying to commit to running the ball, you believe
- 23:38Speaker 4: you can run the ball here into the end zone,
- 23:41Speaker 4: You're probably out of options going unto fourth down, I
- 23:43Speaker 4: don't know why kylem anun guy wasn't more involved. He's
- 23:45Speaker 4: the more violent runner of the two. But you can
- 23:47Speaker 4: always you know, Hindsight's twenty twenty. I thought the fourth
- 23:50Speaker 4: down play was curious at best. It was it was
- 23:52Speaker 4: basically like what you would call a spacing concept where
- 23:54Speaker 4: you get you know, guys in kind of a bunch
- 23:56Speaker 4: of formations. Somebody comes inside and runs a little like
- 23:58Speaker 4: hitch on the inside, and you just fired in there
- 24:00Speaker 4: in a tight window, but space was all over it.
- 24:01Speaker 4: It's a great play by the Rams defense, and at
- 24:03Speaker 4: that point you've exhausted all of the Bears goal line plays,
- 24:06Speaker 4: including probably the two point conversion, which is why I
- 24:08Speaker 4: had such a major effect on the outcome of the game,
- 24:10Speaker 4: because then they get down there with the miraculous catch
- 24:13Speaker 4: and they can't do anything to go win the game.
- 24:15Speaker 3: They just have to settle for the pat which is
- 24:16Speaker 3: perfectly fine.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Yeah, it's one of those Particularly like the granular aspects
- 24:21Speaker 5: of that play, because they pulled Jordan McFadden, the left
- 24:24Speaker 5: guard on the other side on that shotgun hand off
- 24:27Speaker 5: to Swift where maybe you think he can go inside
- 24:30Speaker 5: of McFadden's block. He trusts himself to be able to
- 24:32Speaker 5: get to the end zone. Then he's got Darius Williams.
- 24:34Speaker 5: He can't see Quinton Lake coming on the backside. You know,
- 24:38Speaker 5: in hindsight and looking at the broadcast forew you're thinking, well,
- 24:41Speaker 5: if he takes Darius Williams corner to the pylon, I
- 24:44Speaker 5: think DeAndre Swift gets there, but he sees the shortest
- 24:47Speaker 5: route being there, not knowing that Lake was on the
- 24:50Speaker 5: outside of his block in the first place, which is
- 24:52Speaker 5: probably why he could have gone inside in the first way.
- 24:54Speaker 2: It did feel like Detroit Lions DeAndre Swift showed up
- 24:56Speaker 2: for one play because if he just didn't jump, he
- 25:00Speaker 2: just lower lowered his shoulder like he's falling inside the
- 25:03Speaker 2: one I think at the at the worst. But but
- 25:06Speaker 2: the way they defended that, And yeah, there were so
- 25:09Speaker 2: many defensive plays by the Rams during this game which
- 25:14Speaker 2: kept him in it. But more than anything, it was
- 25:16Speaker 2: the secondary like Cam curl gets an absolutely massive interception
- 25:23Speaker 2: in overtime. Here is Cam Curle talking after the game. Uh,
- 25:28Speaker 2: with NBC picks for.
- 25:30Speaker 11: Your boy, Kobe Durant, how were you all able to
- 25:32Speaker 11: read Caleb Williams so well tonight, man?
- 25:35Speaker 1: You know, just just playing together.
- 25:36Speaker 12: Man.
- 25:36Speaker 1: We trust each other.
- 25:37Speaker 13: Man.
- 25:38Speaker 14: And you know we heard we had a little noise,
- 25:40Speaker 14: you know in the win about our secondary.
- 25:41Speaker 1: You know they were hating on us.
- 25:42Speaker 15: But you know, we can't to show them what we
- 25:43Speaker 15: can do.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Man.
- 25:44Speaker 9: We make plays back there.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Man, we win games for the team. What'd you hear?
- 25:48Speaker 12: Man?
- 25:48Speaker 3: I ain't will and you don't give him no no airtime.
- 25:50Speaker 3: But we heard it though, and that's why we played
- 25:52Speaker 3: like that. We wanna continue to play like that.
- 25:55Speaker 5: That's that's me. I'm sorry, Chicago. I motivated the Rams
- 25:58Speaker 5: secondary to play extra hard. I thought maybe the Bears
- 26:01Speaker 5: could exploit some size advantages, and considering the the Kobe
- 26:05Speaker 5: Durant play with cool commit it appears that happened.
- 26:08Speaker 2: But we've been talking about the Rams dbs being especially
- 26:13Speaker 2: the cornerbacks, being potentially their achilles heel all season. I
- 26:17Speaker 2: do want to show that Cam Curle interception in overtime
- 26:21Speaker 2: because I think it's going to be a controversial, you know,
- 26:24Speaker 2: play for a long time in Chicago. After the game,
- 26:27Speaker 2: Caleb Williams said that it was a miscommunication that he
- 26:32Speaker 2: thought DJ Moore was going to flatten out the route
- 26:34Speaker 2: a little more, but more went vertical. Some other people
- 26:39Speaker 2: shooky saying Dj Moore kind of quiet quit on a
- 26:43Speaker 2: route at the biggest spot in overtime. What was your
- 26:48Speaker 2: your read on that? Just a fantastic play by the
- 26:51Speaker 2: way by Curl like that often is the difference in
- 26:54Speaker 2: these games is like a defensive back or defensive player
- 26:56Speaker 2: just like making the damn play. But it was not
- 27:00Speaker 2: a great Dj Moore moment and probably the last moment
- 27:03Speaker 2: of him in a Bear's uniform.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but I think this is that both things can
- 27:06Speaker 4: be true situation because let's think about it from DJ
- 27:09Speaker 4: Moore's perspective, You're running that route, it's a deep over
- 27:11Speaker 4: and you're thinking, all right, this safety is here. I'm covered,
- 27:13Speaker 4: Like I'm not gonna get the ball because I'm covered,
- 27:16Speaker 4: Whereas Caleb's thinking flatten out, adjust to where the dB is.
- 27:18Speaker 4: He doesn't, so he does kind of quit on the play.
- 27:21Speaker 4: But also it's a great play made by the defensive back,
- 27:23Speaker 4: and it's just a bit of a misunderstanding between quarterback
- 27:25Speaker 4: and receiver.
- 27:26Speaker 3: And sometimes that just happens. It's just that it happened
- 27:29Speaker 3: to be the.
- 27:30Speaker 1: It happens with.
- 27:31Speaker 2: It happens with DJ Moore a lot it really is
- 27:33Speaker 2: probably why he's gonna be gone. Yeah, it's it's unfortunate
- 27:38Speaker 2: because look, that's I am more amazed by quarterbacks and
- 27:43Speaker 2: wide receivers being able to cite a just just as
- 27:46Speaker 2: a regular part of that's just how the NFL is played,
- 27:49Speaker 2: like on an every down basis. I'm more amazed by
- 27:52Speaker 2: that than almost anything, Like even more than all the athletics.
- 27:54Speaker 2: It seems insane that that works. It's always worked, so,
- 27:58Speaker 2: like I I get it that it's it's a high
- 28:01Speaker 2: degree of difficulty situation.
- 28:04Speaker 1: But unfortunately, I think Caleb had it read, you know right.
- 28:07Speaker 2: And it's interesting because they get the ball back there
- 28:10Speaker 2: in overtime after a pretty regrettable drive by the Rams,
- 28:13Speaker 2: and they get it all the way to midfield.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Caleb Williams is scrambling.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Later in the game, Caleb Williams is making a lot
- 28:19Speaker 2: of really great, high level throws. They're at midfield at
- 28:24Speaker 2: this point. I think Rams fans are thinking, like, this
- 28:27Speaker 2: game's probably over. They need one first down to get
- 28:30Speaker 2: in Cairo Santos's field goal rent and instead they're kind
- 28:33Speaker 2: of big game hunting, and that's how the Rams end
- 28:36Speaker 2: up moving on.
- 28:37Speaker 9: Yeah, and Caleb's aggressive.
- 28:38Speaker 5: That's that's why, that's why they were in this part
- 28:41Speaker 5: in this game in the first place. You know, it
- 28:45Speaker 5: has happened a lot with DJ Moore. I feel like
- 28:47Speaker 5: the fact that it was you know, route number fifty
- 28:50Speaker 5: eight for DJ Moore and the accumulation of you know,
- 28:53Speaker 5: DJ is not a smallish wide receiver to be you know,
- 28:58Speaker 5: playing that that volume of play, not to make excuse
- 29:01Speaker 5: for it, but just to highlight, you know, some of
- 29:03Speaker 5: the factors that go into that where he's, like you said,
- 29:06Speaker 5: he's not necessarily looking. If he's looking, I think it's
- 29:09Speaker 5: a little bit different. But didn't didn't see the ball,
- 29:13Speaker 5: saw something different than Caleb did. And this is a
- 29:15Speaker 5: couple of plays after Caleb runs directly into Landman on
- 29:19Speaker 5: a first down run where you know, he's like t
- 29:22Speaker 5: bow powering it down the field for the Chicago Bears.
- 29:25Speaker 5: And I know, you know, hindsight being absolutely flawless as
- 29:27Speaker 5: it always is going to be. Folks wanted some more
- 29:30Speaker 5: runs there, but people wanted runs when they were passes.
- 29:32Speaker 5: It's we could find me everything. We had a tom machine.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Caleb was even though he threw three picks.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I just have so much more confidence in him than
- 29:42Speaker 2: I even did six weeks ago. I think he was
- 29:45Speaker 2: just improving on a week to week basis. Some of
- 29:47Speaker 2: the hole shots in this game, there was the one
- 29:49Speaker 2: to a Donze late in the fourth quarter that that
- 29:53Speaker 2: he hit, but there were there were a couple like that.
- 29:54Speaker 1: On that one actually, Colston Lovelin.
- 29:56Speaker 2: By the way, Ali Connelly texted me to point, make
- 29:59Speaker 2: sure you give Colston Loveland his credit for block and
- 30:02Speaker 2: Jared Verse.
- 30:02Speaker 1: One on one.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Sometimes tight ends can block the defensive end. It's not
- 30:05Speaker 2: always a problem, and it's true on that play, and
- 30:08Speaker 2: Caleb had a few plays like that to Adunze, to Moore,
- 30:11Speaker 2: who did have five catches in this game, including a
- 30:13Speaker 2: touchdown to Loveland. But I did think like a problem
- 30:17Speaker 2: from them in this game was like the Bears receivers
- 30:20Speaker 2: weren't always making the plays for him. I think there
- 30:24Speaker 2: were two to three clear drops. Loveland definitely had one
- 30:28Speaker 2: or two, and then there was probably like four or
- 30:30Speaker 2: five more that would have been tough, but you could
- 30:34Speaker 2: have made the play for him. We'll talk about the
- 30:36Speaker 2: Patriots in a second. Their receivers were making plays. The
- 30:39Speaker 2: defensive backs for the Rams were making plays. Kobe Durant
- 30:43Speaker 2: with two of them. They weren't easy ones. And yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 2: like I'm not going to like attribute it to anything
- 30:49Speaker 2: magical other than they just made it happen in the
- 30:52Speaker 2: end in a game that could not have been any closer.
- 30:54Speaker 2: And I think to your point in the I think
- 30:56Speaker 2: for a lot of the game it almost looked like
- 30:58Speaker 2: the Bears were the better team in the snuck it out.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that is kind of what it felt like. But
- 31:02Speaker 4: I also think that you're right in that they could
- 31:04Speaker 4: have made some plays. I think about a deep shot
- 31:06Speaker 4: to Luther Burden that gets broken up by a great
- 31:07Speaker 4: play by a Rams defensive back, and you think, oh,
- 31:09Speaker 4: maybe a bigger receiver or more experienced receiver, a stronger
- 31:12Speaker 4: receiver makes that play and that changes, you know, the
- 31:14Speaker 4: course of the game.
- 31:15Speaker 3: But it's also this game.
- 31:16Speaker 4: You know, on Caleb's three interceptions, we just talked about
- 31:19Speaker 4: the last one, but there was also one earlier where
- 31:21Speaker 4: it felt like maybe there was another misunderstanding. And it's
- 31:24Speaker 4: a feather in the Kapa Krushula, the defensive coordinator for
- 31:27Speaker 4: the Rams, for the way that he disguises coverage. They
- 31:28Speaker 4: come out showing man coverage across the board and it
- 31:31Speaker 4: looks like the receiving corps and Caleb both believe that
- 31:34Speaker 4: it's man coverage, and instead he goes to the corner
- 31:36Speaker 4: route to Luther Burton and Kobe Durant's right there drifting
- 31:38Speaker 4: back in zone coverage to pick it off and take
- 31:41Speaker 4: away the idea of a possible whole shot because you think,
- 31:43Speaker 4: all right, Burden's running the corner rout, he's got the
- 31:45Speaker 4: advantage on outside leverage over the safety, but he never
- 31:48Speaker 4: sees Durant back there because he thinks Durant's running with
- 31:51Speaker 4: the receiver who cuts inside from the outside, and he's.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Never going to be there.
- 31:54Speaker 4: And that's why it's beautiful that the Rams can get
- 31:57Speaker 4: away with things like this, or at least accomplished things
- 31:59Speaker 4: like this defensively. It's just to Feather and the Kappa
- 32:00Speaker 4: Chris Shula and an example of why football is so
- 32:03Speaker 4: much of a chess match in such an in game
- 32:05Speaker 4: reaction thing. And for Caleb, being a second year quarterback,
- 32:07Speaker 4: done so many great things you talk about over the
- 32:09Speaker 4: last six weeks. I go all the way back to
- 32:11Speaker 4: the Raider game, way back in Week four, when he
- 32:12Speaker 4: led them back. That was the first step in him
- 32:14Speaker 4: becoming this clutch player. He did it so many times
- 32:17Speaker 4: this season, but it is another example of why we
- 32:19Speaker 4: have to remind ourselves he is only in his second
- 32:21Speaker 4: year and he will learn from things like this.
- 32:23Speaker 5: There was a moment in the game where Collinsworth was
- 32:25Speaker 5: maybe speculating that Loveland runs the wrong route on the
- 32:29Speaker 5: adjustment there and could have taken up more space vertically
- 32:32Speaker 5: to occupied Durant so that there's more freedom to get
- 32:36Speaker 5: that ball to.
- 32:38Speaker 9: Luther Burden.
- 32:39Speaker 5: But a great play, a great call by defense of
- 32:42Speaker 5: as you said, Greg, one team made plays when the
- 32:46Speaker 5: ball was in the air and the other did.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 2: And look, I think Colston Loveland ended up suffering a
- 32:51Speaker 2: concussion in this game. He did not finish the game.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Ben Johnson did confirm that afterwards. You hate to see that.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Just shout out to Kevin Dotson and this running game
- 33:02Speaker 2: in this offensive line that you know, we'll have all
- 33:04Speaker 2: week to talk about what they need to do in Seattle.
- 33:08Speaker 2: But the running game, Look, it's it's not as easy
- 33:12Speaker 2: as just saying you got to run the ball more
- 33:15Speaker 2: and then and then it works like you got to
- 33:17Speaker 2: have the players to actually execute that. On a day
- 33:20Speaker 2: where they almost use no heavy personnel. They were basically
- 33:24Speaker 2: in three wide receivers the whole game, almost treating Jordan
- 33:28Speaker 2: Whittington as a tight end and or you know, sometimes
- 33:31Speaker 2: it was Mumpfield.
- 33:32Speaker 1: But they did not go heavy.
- 33:33Speaker 2: And for what it's worth, the few plays that they did,
- 33:36Speaker 2: it did not go very well for them. And when
- 33:39Speaker 2: they needed to run that, their offensive line really road graded.
- 33:43Speaker 2: And just we're getting four five yard chunks. Let's let's wrap. Actually,
- 33:49Speaker 2: just given the Rams some credit and by listening to
- 33:52Speaker 2: Sean McVay talk about what they were going up against today, and.
- 33:56Speaker 10: That's what it's about. You know, there's no style points.
- 33:58Speaker 10: It's about being able to survive in advance. And we
- 34:00Speaker 10: were able to do that in a tough, hostile environment.
- 34:02Speaker 1: And it was coldish today, and uh, yeah, they got
- 34:08Speaker 1: they got through.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Uh the West Coast team, they can they can win
- 34:11Speaker 2: in the cold. Uh probably won't be as cold in
- 34:14Speaker 2: Seattle next week.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Whew, let's uh, let's take a break.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I mean, the most surprising thing all Sunday for me
- 34:22Speaker 2: was not the moment that Caleb Williams uh through that pass.
- 34:26Speaker 2: It was the moment that Eric got in my ear
- 34:28Speaker 2: and told me we've already gone twenty five minutes.
- 34:30Speaker 1: I was like, what, I feel like we've all been
- 34:32Speaker 1: talking for like five it started minutes.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Let's take a quick break and we're gonna come back
- 34:37Speaker 2: and we're gonna talk about the AFC matchup between Drake
- 34:42Speaker 2: May and that Texans.
- 34:44Speaker 15: Defense steps us over the right guard.
- 34:55Speaker 14: Here comes a four man washed By stands and throws
- 34:58Speaker 14: a long bull if he's on the right supper King Shawn.
- 35:00Speaker 12: We unders Patriots. I'm coming after we has regained a
- 35:10Speaker 12: two score league?
- 35:13Speaker 8: What's up? How's the hell of the problem sorted for?
- 35:18Speaker 8: They walk Henderson up, they're telling the Touxis we're flowing it.
- 35:22Speaker 8: Trek Masons, I don't care.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Poor Zolac. I mean, Eric's just sick of hearing him.
- 35:30Speaker 2: He's like, that's enough, Solac, that's Bob Socie. That's the
- 35:35Speaker 2: final score in a twenty eight to sixteen Patriots victory.
- 35:41Speaker 2: New England is moving on to the AFC Championship game
- 35:48Speaker 2: in Denver. It was all building up to the Jarrett
- 35:52Speaker 2: Stidham revenge game all along.
- 35:55Speaker 1: What a sentence. We can talk about that later in
- 35:58Speaker 1: the week. First we got to talk about this game.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Similar to how Matthew Stafford's defense kept getting the ball
- 36:07Speaker 2: back to Stafford.
- 36:09Speaker 1: The Patriots defense kept getting it back with turnovers. CJ.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Stroud and the Texans turn it over five times. And
- 36:18Speaker 2: you can only keep this Patriots big play offense down
- 36:22Speaker 2: for so long. They did throw three touchdown passes, first
- 36:25Speaker 2: quarterback all season to do that against the Houston Texans.
- 36:30Speaker 2: It wasn't pretty shook on a play by play basis,
- 36:36Speaker 2: but I was impressed by May and the receiver's ability
- 36:43Speaker 2: to make something big happen in Spurts, you know what
- 36:47Speaker 2: I mean, Like they just needed someone to make big
- 36:50Speaker 2: plays in Kashan Boody and Stefan Diggs and May in
- 36:54Speaker 2: Spurts made enough of them to get out of there
- 36:58Speaker 2: in just an ugly game there in the cold rain
- 37:01Speaker 2: and the snow.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we're establishing a bit of a theme
- 37:04Speaker 4: with the Patriots postseason journey because that was kind of
- 37:06Speaker 4: the story of the Charger game as well, is the
- 37:08Speaker 4: throw to Hunter Henry to get the touchdown to essentially
- 37:11Speaker 4: seal that victory. And we got that three or four
- 37:13Speaker 4: times today, which was the throw to Booty that you
- 37:15Speaker 4: just heard that we just played there. But it was
- 37:17Speaker 4: also an earlier throw to Booty on third down where
- 37:19Speaker 4: he forces it in a tight window for a game
- 37:21Speaker 4: of seventeen or eighteen, that sets up the tight window
- 37:23Speaker 4: throw to Stefan Diggs in the end zone for a touchdown.
- 37:26Speaker 3: And yes, May is not lighting up the stat sheet.
- 37:28Speaker 4: He finishes with one hundred and seventy nine yards passing
- 37:30Speaker 4: sixteen to twenty seven. But with those three touchdowns, you
- 37:32Speaker 4: don't have to when you get short fields because your
- 37:34Speaker 4: defense is playing better than it has all year. It's
- 37:36Speaker 4: very opportunistic and outside of your own stripsack issues against
- 37:40Speaker 4: a couple of good pass rushes who are totally taking
- 37:43Speaker 4: the advantage of a rookie at left tackle and Will Campbell,
- 37:46Speaker 4: you're not committing, you know, egregious turnovers that are costing
- 37:49Speaker 4: you the game, and you're capitalizing on the most of
- 37:51Speaker 4: the opportunities that you're getting, and that's what's gotten them
- 37:54Speaker 4: now to the AFC Championship game. The question is, well
- 37:56Speaker 4: that formula stand the test of another week. We'll find out,
- 37:58Speaker 4: But through two games hasn't been stellar, but he's been
- 38:01Speaker 4: good when he's needed to be good, and that's what's
- 38:03Speaker 4: mattered most.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's hard to evaluate because look, he fumbled the
- 38:06Speaker 2: ball four times.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Drake made today and lost it twice.
- 38:10Speaker 2: I think two were really on him and two you know,
- 38:14Speaker 2: the pressure's pretty quick there from the blind side. The
- 38:19Speaker 2: reason I kind of started with that play was Ultimately,
- 38:22Speaker 2: this game was insane. First of all, I mean, there
- 38:25Speaker 2: are eight turnovers in the game, and they all happened.
- 38:27Speaker 2: You know, I think in the first three quarters, in
- 38:30Speaker 2: those five turnovers, how many points do you think the
- 38:32Speaker 2: Patriots scored off those off the how much the offense
- 38:36Speaker 2: scored off the turnovers.
- 38:38Speaker 9: I believe it was zero points zero.
- 38:42Speaker 2: They got to pick six, but an offense, they didn't
- 38:44Speaker 2: do anything with any of them. The three touchdowns that
- 38:46Speaker 2: they got were actually like full field normal drives where
- 38:50Speaker 2: they just suddenly popped up for like a sixty five
- 38:53Speaker 2: seventy year old drive, which against his Texans defense, you'll take. Ultimately,
- 38:57Speaker 2: I think what people are going to remember more from
- 38:59Speaker 2: this game is what happened on the other side of
- 39:02Speaker 2: the ball with CJ.
- 39:03Speaker 9: Stroud.
- 39:03Speaker 5: Yeah, just just say a cataclysm of errors where you
- 39:07Speaker 5: wonder about the early you know, we've had every single
- 39:11Speaker 5: quarterback I feel like in the playoffs injure their hand
- 39:13Speaker 5: on a follow through at some point. It happens early
- 39:16Speaker 5: for CJ Stroud. There was the wintry mix, there was
- 39:18Speaker 5: the notable absence of Nico Collins coming into the game
- 39:22Speaker 5: out with the brain injury, and then they lose Dalton Schultz,
- 39:25Speaker 5: who was apparently the entire plane was constructed game plan
- 39:29Speaker 5: wise out of Dalton Schultz, and combined with the worst
- 39:33Speaker 5: CJ Stroud game since last week's worst c J Stroud game,
- 39:37Speaker 5: it all led to this just kind of a waste
- 39:40Speaker 5: of a great defensive performance by the Houston Texans because
- 39:44Speaker 5: you talk about all three of those touchdown passes, if
- 39:47Speaker 5: I'm not mistaken, other than the Kaishawn Booty one hander,
- 39:50Speaker 5: because that was the only place anybody was going to
- 39:52Speaker 5: get a hand on the ball. The Texans got hands
- 39:54Speaker 5: on both of those touchdown passes. Bullet got a full
- 39:58Speaker 5: palm on the ball that was caught by Pop Douglas,
- 40:01Speaker 5: where he makes a great adjustment late to catch that
- 40:05Speaker 5: ball that was deflected, not like a full deflection, but
- 40:07Speaker 5: enough that we bothered some people. So he goes into
- 40:10Speaker 5: the end zone there and you could see Stefan Diggs's
- 40:14Speaker 5: fingers impressing on the football because he's able to hold
- 40:17Speaker 5: on to that touchdown pass where that was the level
- 40:21Speaker 5: of difficulty that was required for the Patriots to score
- 40:23Speaker 5: points today. And then you know Hunter and Anderson. I
- 40:26Speaker 5: get like the frustrations with Will Campbell and the Patriots front.
- 40:28Speaker 5: They're getting everybody, but they're doing up everybody at this point.
- 40:32Speaker 5: And that's gonna happen with Drake May. He's gonna have
- 40:35Speaker 5: deep drops and look down the field and try to
- 40:37Speaker 5: make plays. Maybe not the team that you want to
- 40:39Speaker 5: do that against, but they kind of checked that.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Down late in the second right, they started just getting
- 40:44Speaker 2: the ball out of his hands on some of the
- 40:45Speaker 2: third and longs. I hear what you're saying. But here's
- 40:48Speaker 2: just a little stat from next Gen stats. Will Anderson
- 40:50Speaker 2: and a Dafeoe are the only two players in the
- 40:54Speaker 2: history of the postseason to get three sacks and two
- 40:56Speaker 2: forced fumbles in the same game. And they do have,
- 41:00Speaker 2: uh a commonality, which is a you know this, Campbell
- 41:03Speaker 2: and May are the two kind of problem And look, mate,
- 41:07Speaker 2: there might be a little bit of like a we
- 41:08Speaker 2: might be on hand size in the cold weather watch
- 41:11Speaker 2: a little bit with Drake May.
- 41:12Speaker 1: You're rolling your eyes.
- 41:13Speaker 5: Yeah, if you get Bobbin out there or maybe Wimby, Yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 5: and have them hold the ball with giant hands and
- 41:19Speaker 5: have de Neil Hunters sweat like it's not necessarily gonna go.
- 41:23Speaker 2: No, it's if you were gonna get on the hand
- 41:26Speaker 2: side stuff. Maybe maybe it's when he fumbles it rushing
- 41:30Speaker 2: earlier in the game that that was.
- 41:32Speaker 9: You know, there was a they were playing in a
- 41:33Speaker 9: slushy mo.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Either way it was it was tough to make plays
- 41:37Speaker 2: there on offense. Certainly, you mentioned that Douglas fourth down play.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Let's actually listen to that because I think that was
- 41:46Speaker 2: a big early moment where Josh McDaniels and Mike Freebele
- 41:50Speaker 2: decide to go for it on fourth down. Instead instead
- 41:53Speaker 2: of just you know, quote unquote taking the points against
- 41:55Speaker 2: a great defense, they decided to go for it on
- 41:57Speaker 2: fourth down.
- 41:58Speaker 14: To what to receivers Jovin White, including Douglas. He's looking
- 42:02Speaker 14: that way. He's throwing Douglas next catch the touchdown.
- 42:08Speaker 8: I just say, no, buddy, on punf Douglas, I get
- 42:12Speaker 8: it great, So you get it in bad coverage he
- 42:15Speaker 8: comes to blitz. Think of cover with fourth and one.
- 42:18Speaker 9: Patiently your quarterback.
- 42:20Speaker 8: They pick here waits, Douglas clears the underneath coverage, and
- 42:25Speaker 8: then it's off to the racist. He's been nowhere this
- 42:28Speaker 8: last month. The buck doesn't just get you on the
- 42:31Speaker 8: court early.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Uh again.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Uh So, why do you gotta say he's been nowhere
- 42:36Speaker 2: this last month? I mean he's he's been in Foxborough
- 42:41Speaker 2: practicing with the Patriots, but.
- 42:43Speaker 9: You know he's he's like like taking a shot at
- 42:45Speaker 9: Foxboro the.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Fourth wide receiver.
- 42:47Speaker 2: I thought the game management like it wasn't perfect by
- 42:51Speaker 2: the Patriots, but I do think like the kind of
- 42:56Speaker 2: routine that that Josh McDaniels got in on a couple
- 43:00Speaker 2: different drives going for it there on fourth how they
- 43:03Speaker 2: handled kind of the end of half situation, different situations
- 43:07Speaker 2: compared to how Damiko Ryans and the Texans handled a
- 43:10Speaker 2: lot of their decision making and their ability to kind
- 43:13Speaker 2: of stay composed and timeouts and pre snap penalties things
- 43:16Speaker 2: like that that I think that was a difference. And
- 43:18Speaker 2: I was kind of thinking about how Mike Grabel said
- 43:20Speaker 2: going into the year, like the first thing we got
- 43:22Speaker 2: to do is find out how to not beat ourselves,
- 43:24Speaker 2: like let the other teams beat themselves. And I did
- 43:26Speaker 2: feel like at times on Sundays Shook that the Texans
- 43:29Speaker 2: were beating themselves.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's an identify your strengths going into
- 43:33Speaker 4: the game and try to lean on that sort of
- 43:35Speaker 4: situation for both of these teams. And if you're the Patriots,
- 43:37Speaker 4: you're looking at that opportunity early and you're thinking, how
- 43:39Speaker 4: many times are we going to get down here and
- 43:41Speaker 4: really have a real shot at scoring a touchdown against
- 43:44Speaker 4: this defense? Probably not very often, even you know, we
- 43:46Speaker 4: talked about how they didn't cash in those turnovers for points.
- 43:49Speaker 4: That's kind of an example of what they expected. But
- 43:51Speaker 4: in that moment, early enough in the game, you feel
- 43:53Speaker 4: yourself having a little bit of strength forth and one,
- 43:55Speaker 4: We've got to get the right call, and you just
- 43:57Speaker 4: narrowly get it past Kaalen Bullock and ends up producing
- 43:59Speaker 4: a touch down. That's the risk that you take in
- 44:01Speaker 4: a playoff game and you hope that it pays off.
- 44:03Speaker 4: And it did for them there. But you're right, and
- 44:05Speaker 4: I thought it was most telling in the fourth quarter
- 44:07Speaker 4: not to speed ahead to that point. But there's like
- 44:08Speaker 4: four and a half minutes left in the game and
- 44:10Speaker 4: the Texans are down twelve points, and Demiko Ryans is
- 44:13Speaker 4: like I'm gonna punt because much like the Steeler game
- 44:16Speaker 4: proved itself to be, the Texans defense probably had a
- 44:19Speaker 4: better chance of scoring than the Texans offense did at
- 44:22Speaker 4: that point because he knew that was their strength, their defense,
- 44:24Speaker 4: and it's it is unfortunate because this is a defense that,
- 44:27Speaker 4: had they gotten all the way to the Super Bowl,
- 44:29Speaker 4: had an opportunity to go to go down among some
- 44:32Speaker 4: of the best of this century. Like I'm thinking two thousands,
- 44:34Speaker 4: the two thousand Ravens, the two Buccaneers, the thirteen Seahawks,
- 44:37Speaker 4: the fifteen Broncos. That could have been this Texans defense.
- 44:40Speaker 4: But because the offense was so bad, none of it
- 44:43Speaker 4: ends up really being really mattering, ends up being a
- 44:44Speaker 4: footnote in the greater picture.
- 44:47Speaker 2: This is unfair, but I think if they were those defenses,
- 44:51Speaker 2: they would have been one of those defenses, you know
- 44:53Speaker 2: what I mean, Like, that's okay, you're talking about the
- 44:55Speaker 2: greatest defenses of all time. Yeah, that's an unfair The
- 44:59Speaker 2: bar was so fa had to be one of those defenses,
- 45:03Speaker 2: I think to go on this run. But I think
- 45:05Speaker 2: if they were one of those defenses, they would have
- 45:07Speaker 2: been one of those defense kind of you know, it's like, yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 2: the line from the if if you were the one
- 45:12Speaker 2: that invented face, just remembering those defenses, if you were
- 45:15Speaker 2: the one that wo had invented Facebook, you would have
- 45:17Speaker 2: invented Facebook. Like they still gave up, They still gave
- 45:20Speaker 2: up the three like touchdowns.
- 45:22Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 45:22Speaker 4: Yes, but also consider the flow of the game and
- 45:24Speaker 4: the fact that their offense was getting them nothing and
- 45:26Speaker 4: they were constantly on the field, Like time possession was
- 45:28Speaker 4: only five minute different about four and a half minute difference.
- 45:30Speaker 4: But if you when we watched this game in real time,
- 45:32Speaker 4: it felt like the Texans were constantly finding themselves trotting
- 45:34Speaker 4: back on the field tasked with doing the same thing
- 45:37Speaker 4: you just got off the field doing, which was stopping
- 45:39Speaker 4: a Patriots offense that had the potential to put points
- 45:41Speaker 4: on the board.
- 45:42Speaker 2: I totally agree with you. The bar was like insanely
- 45:46Speaker 2: unfairly high. And one of the big reasons the Patriots
- 45:48Speaker 2: won this game was fumble luck that when Daniel Hunter
- 45:51Speaker 2: stripsack Drake May near the goal line early in the game,
- 45:54Speaker 2: he didn't fall on it, like he was so close.
- 45:56Speaker 2: That could have been seven points. When Will Anderson had
- 45:58Speaker 2: a strip sack in the third quarter. He didn't fall
- 46:03Speaker 2: on it, and that's just that's more luck than anything.
- 46:07Speaker 2: And so maybe that's a fair point that it's complimentary,
- 46:11Speaker 2: but it's not like they were on the field playwise
- 46:13Speaker 2: that much. Actually, the Texans had more plays. The Texans
- 46:16Speaker 2: made it to the red zone four times. The Patriots
- 46:18Speaker 2: only did it once. The problem was, as you mentioned, Shook,
- 46:21Speaker 2: that when they hit plays like they kind of hit
- 46:23Speaker 2: him in a row and they hit big plays. We
- 46:26Speaker 2: actually have like a shot of you know, Kayshun Booty
- 46:30Speaker 2: dusted Derek Stingley Junior. You know, I wouldn't say he
- 46:33Speaker 2: dusted him for this touchdown, but his very first touchdown
- 46:37Speaker 2: for Drake May in his entire career was from basically
- 46:41Speaker 2: the same spot on the field, little in front of
- 46:42Speaker 2: the forty and he beats Derek Stingley clean and he
- 46:45Speaker 2: scores a touchdown there. Kamari Lassiter got beat off the
- 46:48Speaker 2: line of scrimmage. They didn't hit that shot to Kyle Williams,
- 46:51Speaker 2: I mean Kyle Williams in this game, but Stingly had
- 46:53Speaker 2: another pass interference penalty. It's the bar was like so
- 46:57Speaker 2: unfairly high that they just had to like shut them
- 47:00Speaker 2: down but they didn't force field goals is kind of
- 47:02Speaker 2: what I'm getting at, like that they needed to force
- 47:05Speaker 2: field goals and not give up touchdowns.
- 47:06Speaker 9: Yeah, and they got got.
- 47:08Speaker 5: You know, good defenses can get got, especially when they're
- 47:11Speaker 5: put in disadvantageous situations where there's the accumulation of dealing
- 47:17Speaker 5: with what they were having to watch, the amount of
- 47:19Speaker 5: times they were having to run immediately back on the field.
- 47:22Speaker 5: Great plays by Drake May and this Patriots team. I
- 47:25Speaker 5: think it's a little more difficult now to have because
- 47:30Speaker 5: we talk about those defenses of old. I think that
- 47:33Speaker 5: the game has changed to a capacity we're probably never
- 47:37Speaker 5: going to see that level of defense and as well
- 47:39Speaker 5: as keeping teams. We talk two thousand Ravens going through
- 47:43Speaker 5: that playoff runhe I don't think anybody got twenty points.
- 47:45Speaker 9: I don't know that we're getting there.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Again, that's fair, and the Patriots defense did score in
- 47:51Speaker 2: this game. As we mentioned earlier. Let's actually listen to
- 47:54Speaker 2: the pick six by Marcus. I think this was the
- 47:57Speaker 2: biggest play in the game because, you know, to bring
- 47:59Speaker 2: it back to this point that the Texans are winning
- 48:01Speaker 2: at this point, you know, CJ. Stroud did put together
- 48:04Speaker 2: a pretty good touchdown drive to go up ten to seven.
- 48:06Speaker 2: So they had scored ten points unanswered. They had, they
- 48:10Speaker 2: really had. Drake May looking rattled early in this game.
- 48:13Speaker 2: But they get the ball back the Texans too, and
- 48:17Speaker 2: that is time for the tech the Patriots to score.
- 48:20Speaker 15: CJ scrubb in.
- 48:21Speaker 14: A tight formation two by two, so he well baptist
- 48:24Speaker 14: chuck playfake whould like is an nearside receiver.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Held out and scrub throws it up in the air finascepted.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Marcus Jones ride twenty fifteen to ten.
- 48:31Speaker 6: Jones just tackled by Hundredson takes him to the pummel
- 48:34Speaker 6: one chuck shot up, takes a head tracks, look at it.
- 48:37Speaker 1: It's nuts again, look on it nuts, I do come
- 48:41Speaker 1: love it.
- 48:42Speaker 8: Prush her off the edge contact and the ball goes
- 48:46Speaker 8: pumped up right in here and finally we get it
- 48:49Speaker 8: off the deflection. There's been three times in the first
- 48:51Speaker 8: quarter balls have gone up deflected and all the crowd.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Joe picks it up and rept his history.
- 48:59Speaker 2: Does the burn old decision by Stroud one of four
- 49:02Speaker 2: for first half interceptions, you know one of them.
- 49:05Speaker 1: The throw is a little high. Who was that off
- 49:08Speaker 1: of Higgins?
- 49:09Speaker 9: Yeah? No, it was Hutchinson.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Hutchinson like that one was kind of you know a
- 49:13Speaker 2: little on both of them. The others were more about
- 49:17Speaker 2: the decisions rather than the execution. But it didn't seem
- 49:21Speaker 2: like he had a lot of open receivers in this game.
- 49:24Speaker 2: I play like that though, and you got to you
- 49:26Speaker 2: gotta find a way to dirt it or just take
- 49:28Speaker 2: the sack.
- 49:28Speaker 5: Yeah, But it's also a microcosm of the Texans twenty
- 49:32Speaker 5: twenty five season on offense where the operation was weird.
- 49:36Speaker 5: You have you had Bryant in because Schultz had already
- 49:38Speaker 5: gotten hurt at this point, He's coming across in motion.
- 49:42Speaker 9: The tackle steps back, trips him, so he goes down.
- 49:45Speaker 2: That there was Stiln Williams kind of pushed it. He
- 49:47Speaker 2: gets a little bit of an assist.
- 49:48Speaker 1: On that play.
- 49:48Speaker 5: Yet, but there were just so many plays in this
- 49:50Speaker 5: Texan season where the balls being snapped and bounce passes
- 49:54Speaker 5: to CJ. Stroud, where their spin move handoffs to the
- 49:57Speaker 5: wrong person, the defensive toe guys getting weird touchdown opportunities
- 50:01Speaker 5: were This was something that is happening all season for
- 50:05Speaker 5: the Texans, and the Patriots were able to take it.
- 50:07Speaker 2: What he marks ran for seventeen yards on fourteen carries.
- 50:11Speaker 2: They also had the Texans classic, an illegal formation inside
- 50:15Speaker 2: the five yard line that took a touchdown off the
- 50:17Speaker 2: board on I think the first drive of the game,
- 50:20Speaker 2: like there were you.
- 50:21Speaker 9: Have a defensive tackle at fullback.
- 50:23Speaker 2: So so it was And you mentioned the injuries to
- 50:26Speaker 2: Schultz and Nico. Don't forget Trent Brown, who's been so
- 50:29Speaker 2: important for them, was inactive for this game. He got
- 50:32Speaker 2: hurt last week. I was a little bit surprised he
- 50:34Speaker 2: was inactive. And then Titus Howard, who was helping to
- 50:38Speaker 2: replace him. I mean, he's a starter, but they moved
- 50:40Speaker 2: the whole line around. He gets hurt in this game too,
- 50:42Speaker 2: so they're down a couple offensive lines, so there was
- 50:45Speaker 2: a lot going against him. Let's actually listen to Demico
- 50:50Speaker 2: Ryans asking or asked after the game about, you know,
- 50:55Speaker 2: backing his quarterback that the man that he entered Houston
- 50:59Speaker 2: with no c J is our guy.
- 51:01Speaker 9: I believe that.
- 51:04Speaker 7: He could come back out in the second half and
- 51:07Speaker 7: flip it. I believe that he could play better, and
- 51:10Speaker 7: he did that in the second half. He did play better.
- 51:12Speaker 7: We had some positive drives there in the second half.
- 51:16Speaker 7: Is I believe that he would do that, and he
- 51:18Speaker 7: did that.
- 51:20Speaker 1: H Let's also listen to CJ. Stroud after the game
- 51:24Speaker 1: after one of his if not most most difficult nights
- 51:28Speaker 1: as a pro.
- 51:30Speaker 13: I'm a pretty self confident person. I think, you know,
- 51:33Speaker 13: when they started to pile up, I try my best
- 51:35Speaker 13: to you know, stay you know, locked in in the
- 51:37Speaker 13: spirit and you know, realizing I you know, I just
- 51:40Speaker 13: got to be there for my teammates and they encouraged
- 51:42Speaker 13: me a lot through it. So I'm really appreciative of
- 51:44Speaker 13: this team and you know, them doing that because they
- 51:46Speaker 13: don't have to. But yeah, it was it was, you know,
- 51:48Speaker 13: not not easy and something that I'm learned from and
- 51:51Speaker 13: you know, you know, just grateful what my teammates are
- 51:53Speaker 13: picking me up.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I'm always a CJ. Stroud believer. He's gonna have to
- 51:57Speaker 1: wear this.
- 51:58Speaker 2: This offseason shook kind of where are you at with
- 52:01Speaker 2: with Stroud after this third season and especially like how
- 52:05Speaker 2: it ended these last two weeks.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you have to look at his career
- 52:08Speaker 4: in totality from this point because of how good he
- 52:10Speaker 4: was as a rookie, and you have to think what
- 52:12Speaker 4: changed last year. They had a terrible offensive line, he
- 52:14Speaker 4: had over fifty sacks taken, and that was obviously a
- 52:17Speaker 4: need for them. Going to the offseason, they felt like
- 52:19Speaker 4: they had improved it and it showed in the sack numbers.
- 52:22Speaker 4: They cut that in half. But Stroud was still a
- 52:24Speaker 4: little inconsistent when it came to just delivering. And we
- 52:28Speaker 4: saw in some games like the late season game against
- 52:30Speaker 4: the Chargers, where they were good for the big play,
- 52:32Speaker 4: like if he had time to throw, he'd find a
- 52:34Speaker 4: guy downfield and you know, produce explosives, and they did
- 52:37Speaker 4: that a lot down the second half of the season
- 52:40Speaker 4: once Stroud came back to replace Davis Mills. But ultimately,
- 52:43Speaker 4: once you lose a couple of guys in a playoff game,
- 52:46Speaker 4: you see the same offensive line regress back to where
- 52:49Speaker 4: it was last year. And he has been under pressure
- 52:52Speaker 4: for so long now that I feel like they've kind
- 52:54Speaker 4: of broken him a little bit mentally, and he needs
- 52:56Speaker 4: an offseason to kind of reset. He needs to be
- 52:58Speaker 4: told that I can trust this often of line and
- 53:00Speaker 4: I don't have to go be the hero and make
- 53:02Speaker 4: the superhero play that results in saw all the turnovers
- 53:05Speaker 4: we saw against Pittsburgh, when we saw against New England today,
- 53:07Speaker 4: So I think that's a big part of it too.
- 53:09Speaker 4: But also I'm a little concerned about his accuracy over
- 53:13Speaker 4: the long term, like to the point where Akman's like
- 53:14Speaker 4: his hands got to be hurt or something. Because even
- 53:17Speaker 4: on the touchdown pass he throws to Christian Kirk in
- 53:19Speaker 4: this game, it's on the wrong shoulder, like he was
- 53:21Speaker 4: missing placement all game, and he'd been doing that for
- 53:24Speaker 4: a little bit, you know, against Pittsburgh as well. He
- 53:26Speaker 4: had some bigger throws in that game. But it makes
- 53:27Speaker 4: me think that is your greatest attribute is your accuracy.
- 53:30Speaker 4: That's what made you special coming out of Ohio State.
- 53:31Speaker 4: That's what made you special as a rookie. If that's gone,
- 53:34Speaker 4: you got bigger problems at hand. And unfortunately the season
- 53:37Speaker 4: ends in this fashion and now all he's going to
- 53:39Speaker 4: have to try to tune out for the entire offseason
- 53:41Speaker 4: is is he the future the Texans need to look
- 53:43Speaker 4: somewhere else when maybe he just needs an offseason to reset.
- 53:46Speaker 4: But yeah, it's not nearly as encouraging as it was
- 53:48Speaker 4: two years ago, and I understand why people would question
- 53:51Speaker 4: his outlook now.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Look I don't I'm shocked that Texans fans are jumping off.
- 53:56Speaker 2: I mean, I guess I shouldn't be shocked every fan
- 53:58Speaker 2: jumps off the quarter back when they struggle big time.
- 54:02Speaker 9: There were't a lot of people calling for Mitch Rubisky.
- 54:04Speaker 2: Yesterday, right, CJ go is twenty for forty seven in
- 54:09Speaker 2: this game. The context of what happened, especially last year,
- 54:16Speaker 2: is important, and certainly this year it hasn't been perfect either,
- 54:21Speaker 2: but he's also just become an erratic quarterback in a
- 54:24Speaker 2: way that like I believed he was like real deal truth,
- 54:29Speaker 2: and I still think he can because I one thing
- 54:31Speaker 2: I'll always believe if you show that level at the
- 54:34Speaker 2: NFL level, you can do it, like.
- 54:36Speaker 1: You can you can get back to that.
- 54:38Speaker 2: But there have been a lot of times this season
- 54:42Speaker 2: when the situation actually I think has been fine, like
- 54:45Speaker 2: within a game, certainly within plays, and that he has
- 54:50Speaker 2: done things that have been confounding. That he's just been
- 54:52Speaker 2: more erratic on a play to play, drive to drive,
- 54:56Speaker 2: quarter to quarter, game to game basis where I'm I'm
- 55:00Speaker 2: never quite sure like where it's coming, and sometimes he'll
- 55:03Speaker 2: get in a rhythm and you'll be like, damn, that's
- 55:05Speaker 2: one of the best thing is that's one of the
- 55:07Speaker 2: best quarterbacks in the league because he does the hard
- 55:10Speaker 2: stuff really well, but sometimes and I know the weather
- 55:14Speaker 2: I think was a huge factor in this game. I
- 55:16Speaker 2: think the Patriots defense has gotten way better as the
- 55:19Speaker 2: season's gone on, and they were a huge factor in
- 55:22Speaker 2: this game. But they need to go back to the
- 55:26Speaker 2: drawing board because I don't think it's I don't think
- 55:28Speaker 2: you can just put it all on everything around him.
- 55:32Speaker 2: There's some there's something that was going on this year.
- 55:34Speaker 2: I think, even in good situations, that almost concerned me
- 55:37Speaker 2: more than than what happened last year.
- 55:39Speaker 14: I think.
- 55:39Speaker 1: I think on balance it was a little more unsettling.
- 55:42Speaker 1: But for the Texans, they're not They're not gonna question anything,
- 55:46Speaker 1: like they're gonna pick up his fifth year option. He's
- 55:48Speaker 1: he's contract extension eligible.
- 55:50Speaker 2: What what it might do is it just might prevent
- 55:53Speaker 2: them from giving him his monster contract now, which frankly
- 55:57Speaker 2: I think is like that that's the breaks. It's a
- 55:59Speaker 2: five you're a rookie contract. You don't have to get
- 56:01Speaker 2: the contract after three years. But they might they might
- 56:04Speaker 2: try to save some money on giving it to him now,
- 56:06Speaker 2: Like that's not to decide right now, and.
- 56:07Speaker 5: I think that'd be preposterous at this point, and I
- 56:10Speaker 5: just like, I think the folks calling for Davis Mills
- 56:14Speaker 5: in this game, we're a touch preposterous considering what CJ
- 56:19Speaker 5: has been able to do.
- 56:20Speaker 9: I think, like, looking at the evidence, what.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Do you think it's preposterous? Though, I mean, he it's
- 56:23Speaker 2: a five year rookie contract. As long as you pick
- 56:25Speaker 2: up that fifth year option. I don't think it's preposterous
- 56:28Speaker 2: to just be like, okay, go players, I think you're.
- 56:30Speaker 9: To get cute with it.
- 56:31Speaker 5: You can save the money and go ahead and sign
- 56:32Speaker 5: him to a deal after after a bad playoff performance,
- 56:36Speaker 5: right versus saying, oh, all right, well we're gonna we're
- 56:40Speaker 5: gonna play hardball here. Take this all the way at
- 56:41Speaker 5: the end. And you you look at a quarterback circumstance
- 56:44Speaker 5: league wide and you're like, oh, well, this CJ. Stroud
- 56:46Speaker 5: guy is pretty effective. And now you're you're a year
- 56:49Speaker 5: behind the sticks and and everything. Where like we we saw,
- 56:53Speaker 5: you know, Jerry do that with Dak. We've seen that
- 56:55Speaker 5: with with a couple of quarterback contract situations where I
- 56:59Speaker 5: want to just go ahead and get it done, especially
- 57:01Speaker 5: in a situation where late in this game, you have
- 57:04Speaker 5: Hutchinson on spa lane, and he's opened by four yards,
- 57:07Speaker 5: there's nobody around CJ. Stroud, and he leaves the ball
- 57:10Speaker 5: six yards short. Like I think you could take like
- 57:14Speaker 5: this was especially bad. Yeah, And I think we can
- 57:17Speaker 5: just jump this and trash it and not say that
- 57:19Speaker 5: this is evidence to the long term viability of CJ.
- 57:23Speaker 9: Stroud as a football player.
- 57:24Speaker 4: I think if you're going to get that deal done, though,
- 57:26Speaker 4: you have to do so with the intent to try
- 57:29Speaker 4: to improve the situation around him, because we also need
- 57:31Speaker 4: to consider the fact that they made Bobby Slow their
- 57:33Speaker 4: scapegoat last year and changed offensive coordinators and didn't I mean,
- 57:37Speaker 4: I guess they acknowledge that their offensive line was bad
- 57:39Speaker 4: and they tried to improve it, but I don't think
- 57:40Speaker 4: they got any better play call Jim mark Kley in
- 57:42Speaker 4: his first year. Like that's not enough, right, So if
- 57:45Speaker 4: you're going to do that, you got to marry it,
- 57:46Speaker 4: and you got to also understand that I think he's
- 57:48Speaker 4: dealing with some residual effects from what he went through
- 57:49Speaker 4: last year, and you got to bring him back to
- 57:51Speaker 4: like reset and get back to who he is if
- 57:54Speaker 4: you're going to give him that contract. But you could
- 57:56Speaker 4: buy low coming off of this game, which could help
- 57:57Speaker 4: your franchise in the salary.
- 57:58Speaker 1: Cap for the long term, but that's fair.
- 58:01Speaker 2: But he does have two years left to be clear,
- 58:03Speaker 2: so it's not like they're taking They would be taking
- 58:05Speaker 2: it down to the wire. We'll probably be hitting on
- 58:08Speaker 2: this during the offseason. The crazy thing is looking at
- 58:11Speaker 2: the next gen stats right now, it's like they actually
- 58:13Speaker 2: had a slightly higher success rate than the Patriots in
- 58:15Speaker 2: this game.
- 58:15Speaker 9: Now.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Obviously Drake Mango's for way more yards for attempt because
- 58:18Speaker 2: he hits. He hits some big ones, but they were
- 58:21Speaker 2: both were going up against good defenses. I think kind
- 58:24Speaker 2: of the takeaway is like, look, the Patriots also forced
- 58:27Speaker 2: these these turnovers, they forced the field goals. And I
- 58:30Speaker 2: do think Demiko is such a good coach in so
- 58:34Speaker 2: many ways, such a great defensive coach. You got to
- 58:36Speaker 2: have answers on how to help your offense, and you've
- 58:39Speaker 2: got to have better answers in game management. Like they
- 58:42Speaker 2: blew and this is on the entire operation, not necessarily
- 58:45Speaker 2: just him. They blew two timeouts in the second half.
- 58:48Speaker 2: They did that punt that you mentioned, which was the
- 58:51Speaker 2: worst surrender punt I've ever seen.
- 58:52Speaker 1: So someone went and checked you're making a face.
- 58:56Speaker 5: No, I think show's right. I think the opportunities for
- 58:59Speaker 5: will Anderson the top.
- 59:01Speaker 3: No, No, it's true. It's true. It's just depressing, but
- 59:03Speaker 3: it's true.
- 59:05Speaker 2: It's fourth and eighteen, so the game's over like either way,
- 59:08Speaker 2: but you're down twelve points with under four minutes to go.
- 59:11Speaker 2: Someone looks for similar punts in a under five minutes
- 59:14Speaker 2: to go in a playoff game down score two scores.
- 59:17Speaker 2: They found one example actually, which I found hilarious. Ron
- 59:20Speaker 2: Rivera punted with two minutes and six seconds left down
- 59:26Speaker 2: twelve in the Super Bowl on fourth and twenty eight.
- 59:29Speaker 2: He was just like, asker it, I'm getting out of here,
- 59:31Speaker 2: like on his own six yard line or something like that.
- 59:32Speaker 2: He was just like, fourth and twenty eight, I'm not bothering,
- 59:35Speaker 2: which is basically what he did. And you know, of
- 59:38Speaker 2: all the moments though, like Marx's fumble, I thought was
- 59:42Speaker 2: maybe the biggest play in the game, yep, because Marx
- 59:45Speaker 2: fumbles as they're potentially going in, you know, they're at
- 59:51Speaker 2: that point they had cut it already to what five points,
- 59:54Speaker 2: it's twenty one to to No, it's twenty one to
- 59:57Speaker 2: thirteen at that point, and their kind of roll no
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: offense and Marx fumbles in the you know, in the
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: red zone. So uh, let's let's give some just quick
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: shoutouts because I want to say goodbye to this Texans defense,
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: and I just want to give some love to like
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: Will Anderson and daneil Hunter and Henry Totoe who is
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: awesome down the stretch this season, and Kamari Lassiter today
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: with three pass breakups. He gave a one catch on
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: seven targets.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: He was that dude.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Jalen Petrie was really active in this game. Togy. I, Uh,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: you're right. I was being a little harsh on the
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Texans earlier. This This was a special defense.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: They deserved better.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Listen to one more Texans highlight. Why not Eric cut it?
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Let's get our money's worth.
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: Texans flaffing at the mouth on defense.
- 1:00:46Speaker 9: I'm this stirddam situation.
- 1:00:48Speaker 12: May calls for the ball, here's the rush, Here it
- 1:00:50Speaker 12: comes Will, the.
- 1:00:51Speaker 8: Ball is out, The Texans have it hus these falls
- 1:00:54Speaker 8: on it take away for the Texans.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: The terminator strikes again.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: I know it doesn't matter now, but in that moment,
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: I was like, oh wait they might actually come back.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I thought they were. I thought they were
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: coming back because that defense is just scary. That was
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Mark Vandermuir for the final time on Kilt. But yeah,
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: on the other side, to give some that out there too,
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: calebon Chase on four quarterback hits in this game, forced
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: forced a turnover. You mentioned that Milton Williams and Christian Barmore,
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: they were living in the backfield. There were a lot
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: of tackles for lost in this game. Christian Gonzales fifteen targets.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: He was targeted fifteen times in this game, which is outrageous.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Only gave up sixty seven yards on those fifteen targets
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: eight catches, but they were for short. Carlton Davis who
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: left with a brain injury, two interceptions, four passes defense,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: and then how about Zach Kerr not allow of Zach
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Kerr love the defensive play caller a good couple of
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: weeks here, you know wherever Zach Kerr goes like everyone
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: is just questioning the quarterbacks after the fact, you know, controversy.
- 1:01:58Speaker 9: Oh wow, it's like the grim Reaper. I don't know.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: The Carlton Davis Dick game, by the way, those two
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: dicks were low probability and he got both of them.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: It's sort of what I was getting at too, like
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: like sometimes it is about making those plays if you
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: think about the plays on the ball, like Stefan Diggs, Booty,
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Carlton Davis. They just they made the plays on the
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: ball in a difficult situation. Stephan Diggs with a great quote.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: He was asked how did he catch that missile from
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Drake May and he said, with my hands.
- 1:02:28Speaker 9: He also credited May for the past, but he's worked,
- 1:02:32Speaker 9: He's worked on the hands a lot. It was.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: It was an incredible catch up first thoughts, just very quickly.
- 1:02:38Speaker 10: UH.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Patriots playing at Denver in the AFC Championship game next week.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: That's going to be the earlier game.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: It's the same schedule as this Sunday in terms of timing,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: so it's a three pm Eastern noon Best Coast Patriots
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: at Broncos. Bringing back some bad memories of the Broncos
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: taken down New England and the AFC Championship a couple
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: times in the Tom Brady Peyton Manning era. I think
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: they're zero and three in Denver all time, UH. In
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: the playoffs and then the trilogy will be completed. I
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: feel like no offense to the AFC. But it feels
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: right that the Rams and the Seahawks are finishing the
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: day because I think these have been the best two
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: teams in the NFL all season. It almost didn't happen,
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: but I think we've been leading here all season and
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: they will face off for probably the right to be
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: the favorites for whatever that's worth, in the Super Bowl
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: in Santa Clara in a couple of weeks. I'll give
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: you the floor shook of, just like just some quick thoughts.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: We'll obviously be talking about it during the week.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: Well, my takeaway was going to be shout out to
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: the schedule makers, Mike North, everybody else in the NFL
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: office the three four five part, because you got it right.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: You put the better game of the two in the
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: later windows.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: They don't have a choice. They go back and forth
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: every year, so it's like it'll be a.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: We're going to throw all that aside. Take.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: Yeah, the take is I can't wait to see Ram
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: Seahawks part three, just because if you look at the
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: way they played this season, I feel like the Rams
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: stile the first one, the Seahawks stole the second one.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: We're going back to Seattle Place is going to be
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: raucus in Matthew Stafford find a way to continue to
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: sling in against this great defense that seems to be peaking.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: The Seahawks look like the best team in football. Are
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: they going to complete their run of the Super Bowl
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: or Stafford gonna play the foil?
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: We'll find out.
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: Yeah, a lot of attention being paid understandably to Sam's
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: oblique where I think that will be a factory.
- 1:04:31Speaker 9: I think he will need to play better.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: I don't think he'll actually need to play it didn't
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: even really need to play against the forty nine ers.
- 1:04:37Speaker 9: And you know, we'll see what Stitty has.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: What Stitty has in store for us, because it feels
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: like the universe kind of robbed of an opportunity to
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: see the high variance version of bo Nicks, who could
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: absolutely beat this Patriots team. He could absolutely lose this
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: Patriots team, but man, it will be fun to watch.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Nick Foles, you know, still enjoying that Super Bowl
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: victory as should did send out a note for the
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: Broncos and their fans that it's been an emotional twenty
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: four hours. He feels for bow and the team, and
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: he's sending prayers for a strong recovery. But a positive
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: note going into the game versus the Patriots is that
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: they struggle against backup quarterbacks in championship type games.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Good job there, Nick Foles.
- 1:05:20Speaker 9: He brings it all back to the old old Nick.
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: I mean, why not just twist it in? Why not
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: know it's a good job. And I look, I'm higher
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: than Jared Stidham than consensus. I have always been for
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: what it's worth. It was that one game against the
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Raiders like four years three years ago.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Now that's good.
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: Doesn't even care about Jaredson.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Well, everyone thinks he's just a total joke.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: It feels like you're positioning yourself for I told you
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: I was right. Situation now now, No, I.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Think the Patriots should be favored by a little or
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: whatever you know because of that. But I as backup
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: quarterbacks go, I'm trusting Sean Payton. He gave this man
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: two con tracks. He's a Day one signing. And uh,
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: I'm going back to that preseason tape because I remember it, Schucky,
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember. We were we were
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: hitting some preseason reached.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: The preseason quarterback of the year.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: We call them preseason MVP this year. Yeah, that's why
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: you tune in in August. Patrick, I love it.
- 1:06:19Speaker 9: I'm dialed up.
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: Are something that Jared Stillham sitting on the throne wearing
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: his Patriots jersey. Uh, picture that we'll be looking at
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: all week. I'm gonna love it. I can't wait.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: You go watch that tape against the Niners. By the way,
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: that's where the super Bowl is gonna be played. Maybe
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: he'll be back there.
- 1:06:31Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: And if you think bo Nix is a high variance quarterback,
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: wait till you see Jared stead Of. That's a big
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: arm athlete who's uh. I think he's gonna go down swinging.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: It's either gonna go great or go tear.
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: Quarterbacks available Auburn transfer quarterback?
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: Why not just stack them all up?
- 1:06:50Speaker 9: What's doing?
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Man? Uh?
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Not the game that we expected, But I feel somehow
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: like the game that this version of the AFC in
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: this just totally weird wide open season kind of deserve
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: So the Patriots, the Broncos, the top two seeds.
- 1:07:06Speaker 9: Yeah, the committee got it right.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Get to the end this year. We will be back,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: not on Monday night, back in the feed.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Actually, I think the next thing you'll Hear from Us
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: is a forties and free Agents episode where we go
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: through all the AFC teams and what they need to
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: do this offseason. I'm enjoying this exercise and kind of
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: just just a quick look at the free agents, all
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: that sort of stuff, and then back in this studio
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: with the CEEU next Tuesday crew Colleen Wolf and Jordan
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: rod Ray. On Tuesday, Big Week Ahead Championship Week, coaches
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: are getting hired. Shuck's gotta go right, Patrick's taking his
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: tie off. We're getting out of here.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: We're down to four teams, three games. See you Monday,
