- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hello friend, I'm Mike McCurray and you're listening to the Bible track echoes radio broadcast greatly appreciate your attention today.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking forward to jumping back into a message from 1979 brought to you by
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: This program and the preacher of the hour, Dr. Paul Levine.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, Dr. Paul was the founder of this storied ministry.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: We have a goodly heritage here at Bible Tracks and Corporated Realize.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: This radio broadcast is only all in the air because Dr. Paul was led of God to begin it.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: In 1958, I'm looking forward to what God has for us.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: today.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to jump back in just as Dr. Paul was wrapping up the introduction to this thought.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's talking about Jesus' disciple, a man named Peter, and the fact that he, Peter, was often full of something called chaff.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: full of hot air, full of self, full of pride.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm so glad that you and I that we serve a God that allows us, you and me, allows us to be used in a powerful way in spite of the fact.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: that Chath makes a large percentage of who we are sometimes.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you're trying to figure out what I'm talking about, stick around.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Dr. Paul is going to explain it better than I could.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now in just a moment, we're going to rejoin Dr. Paul Levine with this excellent message from all the way back in 1979.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: The title is this, Peter, in
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: this sifter.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: And here's the thought, here's the theme that I'd like you to grab on to.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: It makes up the first point of this message.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: But what is the devil's purpose?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever wondered that what is the devil's purpose?
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Dr. Paul is going to begin to peel back the curtain and give us a sneak peek of what the devil's purpose is and how you and I,
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: can take note, can take notice of that for the purpose of living for God in a more and a more powerful way.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for listening today.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Listen now to Dr. Paul Levine.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: The Lord says to himself, I know that Peter has got some chaff in his life, but I also know something else.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: I know there's some wheat there too.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: I know that he loves me.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: a big bag of wind, and I know he blusher is a lot, and I know he pops off a lot, and I know he's hotheaded.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: I know all that, but also know that there's some genuine vendors about Peter.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: I know he loves me, and I know he means it when he says he wanted he wants to stay in true to me, and all of that.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: But I just, I believe I'll just let the devil put Peter to the sector for two weeks.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: No, I forget this is a, I should stay here.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, the Lord says, I'm going to, I'm going to let the devil put Peter to the sifter for two reasons, number one, I need to teach Peter a lesson.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: Now, one kind of lesson, same lesson you and I need to learn.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: The Lord said to himself, I'm going to have to teach Peter.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: He got to pray more.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: And he better read the Bible more.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: And he better realize that by himself, he's weak.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: And he can't withstand the temptations without my strength and my help.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I've got to teach him that he's got to have his devotions.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's got to be faithful with his family order.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's called a pride.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: He thinks he's stronger than everybody else.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_02]: Because when I came to Peter and I said no Peter, the devil wants to sit for you that he wants to sit for you that he wants to sit for you as weakening.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: Peter says, oh, he said, and then the Lord says, I'll pray for you.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: And Peter says, that's nice of you.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad to know that you're praying for me.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: But you don't need to pray for me.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's Andrew, my kid, brother, you better pray for.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: Now he's the shissy and he's the weakling and every time he got in the fire I had to bail him out and I had to knock the block off of the other kid that was beaten him and there was kind of like a little mama's boy and then there's John and a few of the other disciples but now you better pray for them.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: Now I don't need too much plan for thing.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: Now there's the chaff.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I've got to teach Peter that he's weak and that he's proud and that he's arrogant.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: And that he needs my help, and needs my strength, and then while I'm at it, I'll just teach the devil, so.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now, for you see, ologians, I can imagine the Lord saying, I'm going to teach, I'm going to give the devil a lesson in one point Calvinism.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's five points in Calvinism.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to give him a lesson in one point, and that's that one point to persevering the perseverance of the saints.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so the devil needs to learn a lesson.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: And Peter needs to learn a lesson, so okay.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Mr. Devil, I'll just let you put Peter through the city.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: And then when the Lord comes and tells Peter, either, oh boy, he said, Lord, that's fine, but I don't really, you don't have to worry about me, I'll not fall.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right, now then, three seconds quick.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, Satan's purpose.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: What is the devil's purpose and all that?
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: Why do he want to sit Peter?
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: Why did he want to put Peter through a process whereby everybody else would see the chaff in his life?
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: He said the way, you know why?
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: He's out to wreck Peter's testimony, just like yours, yours and mine.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: Now, he wants to wreck your testimony in front of our family.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: It would be wonderful to never correct your testimony, so that your wife would say, well, I suppose there's no mercy.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: Wouldn't it be awful if your wife didn't take you
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: And if the devil could destroy your testimony before your wife, he'd do it.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's the devil's business.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's the devil's purpose is to ruin your testimony and ruin mine.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: He'd like to ruin your testimony and turn to your boy.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: You ever hear about the little boy?
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: He said, by and up on his daddy's lap, little fella, and he said, Daddy, what's a Christian?
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: And so Daddy started explaining to this little boy exactly what a Christian is.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: Went to the hall saying, and then the little boy said,
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: that's what the devil wants.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: The devil wants our wives to say, if you are a Christian, you wouldn't have said that.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: If you are a Christian, you wouldn't have like that.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's what the devil wants our wives to see the chair, not the week.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: He wants our kids to see the chair, not the week.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: So what's Satan's purpose in this?
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: Satan's purpose is to destroy Peter's
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: David, you know, the devil's not omniscient.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't know everything, but maybe he had some insight in information, maybe he knew that the Lord is going to use Peter on the day of Pentecost.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how he knows, and maybe he did.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he could see that in Peter there were great possibilities, and they're great future.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: Just like he sees the same thing in some human here today.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: You have great possibilities of being used for God.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: If the devil can wreck those possibilities and wreck your life and destroy your testimony, or he'll do anything to do it.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: And he may have seen in Peter, boy, here's the problem.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: God can use.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: Who knows, he might be a great preacher someday.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: Who knows, he might write part of the New Testament.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: I better destroy his testimony.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: The devil couldn't destroy his salvation, but he could destroy his testimony.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: He could separate the wheat from the chaplain, such a way that everybody sees the chaplain.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: Blessed God, he couldn't get rid of that wheat.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: Amen.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: Or he could do his get people to see the chaplain.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: And so, it's the devil's business to wreck his testimony and your and mine.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: He just like our families and our neighbors to see chaplain.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to see what's genuine.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know, something you and I are only good at Christians as we are home.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's all better Christians we are.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: If you and I are better Christians in church than we are, at home, then we're just putting on a show in church.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: We're only as good as we are home.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: We're only as good at Christians as the people who know those the best.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: Think we are.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: You don't know what I'm a good Christian or not.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: You don't even see me around me.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: But if you want to find out what I'm a good Christian or not, the person to ask is not somebody around here, go home and ask no wife, not to know.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: Don't go right away, no, go away, no, go away, no, but listen, don't get too big a hurry about that, but not your wife knows how good a Christian you are.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: Your wife knows whether you read the Bible, whether we know your wife knows whether you read the Bible, play with your family, we know, but your wife does.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: And if there's chaff in your life, she's the one that sees it most of.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe somebody down at the shop sees it, if you're a carpenter and you're all off the street, you're thinking, you know, instead of the 10, 20 nails, and you let off an old and stomp around in the fit of tapper and act like a heeding well in the men's orcsie that too.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: That's chaff, that's what they see.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: They know whether you tell dirty stories or not, we don't.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: If you tell dirty stories, that's chaff.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: If you listen to a dirty story, that's chaff also.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: See they know that.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: The people are close to us.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: They all want to see the chaff.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: And they know whether we're good Christians or not.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: But in that said, that the devil has destroyed so many men's testimony, or even plot, you know, there's a seminary in this country, or in the biggest.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: And I heard a red, not too humble, if they have a black list of 50 of their graduates, 50 of them.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: They have 50 graduates who are on a black list and they can not be recommended to preach anyone.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: None of them.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: None of them.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: 50 of them.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: This is a few years ago.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: Now, what's the matter?
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: Here's these young fellows that go all way through a high school and they're going all way through college or Bible school somewhere and then they're going through four years of seminar.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: And after all of the high school and all of the Bible colleagues, and now four years and seven years, you think if they invest that much money, and invest in invest that much time, and that much work, and that much study, the dead's you're going to guard, let's something happen so that they can't use all that knowledge in the Lord's work.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: If you know what, 50 are more in the black list because of immorality in their lives.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Never put into the sifter and down they went.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody saw the chaff and everybody says, yeah, look at him.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: They're calling graduates.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: They're high school graduates.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: They're seminary graduates.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: We don't want them preaching in our churches.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: What a sad illustration.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell you that this here, what you just heard is one of the reasons why we, including me, here at Bible Tracks Incorporated, why we need your prayers?
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to become unusable.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to become unfit for the masters used.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, do we take special precautions?
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll talk more about that tomorrow, but
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell your friend that in spite of precautions the devil?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he's an insidious one, he's an evil one, he's a wicked one, he can do many bad things to good people.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: except for the fact that God is the one who, at the end of the day, if he allows him or says, no, then that's that.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Think of Job and the test that he went through.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: It only came about because God allowed it.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, can I ask you to pray for us?
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Would you pray ahead your protection around us here, myself, my family?
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: Our whole team here at Bible Tracks Incorporated, we don't want to be
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let me encourage you to also be careful.
