- 1:53for us to go ahead and get into today's episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar
- 1:57The Wayward from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dellar. Ted Darloff here
- 2:12Arlo, Los Angeles. That's right, Try Western Indemnity Company. Well,
- 2:15hi, Ted, look, are you free to come out here in a
- 2:17hurry? What's up? A wayward? Truck awayward? That's right? Truck
- 2:22lost straight or stolen? That's what I hope you can find out. It's
- 2:24a big one. Insured for nearly twenty thousand. That is a big one
- 2:29and aborted when it disappeared. Was the driver insured for ten thousand? And
- 2:32the cargo of copper tubing worth ninety five hundred also insured? Holy Ted,
- 2:38I'll grab the next plane. Bob Bailey and the Exciting Adventures of a Man
- 2:51with the action packed Expense Account America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator. It's truly Johnny
- 2:58Dellar, No Act one of Yours truly Johnny dollars expense account submitted I special
- 3:22Investigator Johnny Dollar to the Trian Western Intemnity Company, Los Angeles office. Following
- 3:28is an account of expenses encourage during my investigation of the Wayward truck matter.
- 3:38Expense account Item one one hundred and ninety four dollars sixty five cents airfare and
- 3:40Incidental's heart for the Los Angeles, California. When my plane sat down at
- 3:45the International Airport shortly after nine am, Tedor Loff was waiting for me.
- 3:50He led me on out to the parking lot. Here we are, Johnny,
- 3:53this car right here, all right, go on, I'm in okay,
- 3:58you reserve a hotel room for me in sounds Why? Well, after
- 4:02all, I've been sitting up on a plane all night and wouldn't mind a
- 4:04chance to shower and slick the whiskers off my post strange clothes. Don't want
- 4:09to take the time. That's why I'm glad you could make it out here
- 4:12right away. See, this thing only happened Wednesday night. Well, just
- 4:15what did happen? And who suffered the loss? And how about stopping somewhere
- 4:18so I could grab some breakfast? Then sure find a place along the way.
- 4:23Like I told you, Johnny, a truckloaded with ninety five hundred dollars
- 4:26worth of copper tubing has disappeared. What kind of tubing, the kind they
- 4:30use a lot of in building airplanes, that sort of thing on. It
- 4:33was shipped from Marlow Copper Products over in East Los Angeles. That's where we're
- 4:38heading. Marlow is a big jobber distributor. Okay, So what happened late
- 4:42Wednesday night? A driver but the name of Jackie McCallan was scheduled to haul
- 4:46this order of tubing over to the Belt and Aircraft Corporation OPRAH, Victorville.
- 4:49That's about one hundred miles east of here, out in the desert. Yeah,
- 4:53I know so well, the truckers usually dry that root of night,
- 4:56not only because of lighter traffic, but to avoid the heat during the daytime.
- 5:00He can say that again. Yeah well, anyhow, right after midnight
- 5:03Wednesday, twelve o five, to be exact, Jackie signed out of those
- 5:08Marlol warehouse with his load of copper tubing. Yesterday morning, Pardy Belden Aircraft
- 5:13was screaming for wanting to know why it hadn't been delivered as promise just disappeared,
- 5:17just disappeared, Hi Jack obviously, and the driver any rid of him?
- 5:23Nothing? Well, what kind of a market is there for stuff like
- 5:26that out here? Plenty of market for it, not only because it's expensive,
- 5:29but it's hard to get too, especially for some of the new little
- 5:31companies that have sprung up around Palmdale and Lancaster are not that way. I
- 5:35didn't Lockheed just build a plant out there, Lockeed, Belden, a lot
- 5:39of the big ones, and they subcontract worked to the little boys. That's
- 5:43why nearly ten thousand dollars worth of copper tubing would be worth its weight in
- 5:46goal of those little plans. Well, and it's a wonder there is more
- 5:49of this kind of hijacking. I guess that's what it is. What do
- 5:53you know about the driver of that struck? Jackie McCallan is as honest as
- 5:56a day is long? Yeah, who says his employer? No, Jackie's
- 6:00been driving for Marlow Copper Products for years. They dressed that boy with a
- 6:04load of pure gold. Yeah yeah, what does that mean? No?
- 6:10Man might have some trouble selling off a load of pure gold. Huh.
- 6:13But if what you say is true about the demand for copper tubing in this
- 6:15area. Oh now, wait a minute, and every man's supposed to have
- 6:19his price, you know. To look, Johnny, I see what you're
- 6:21driving at all, right, But not Jackie mccaff you sure ten thousand is
- 6:27a lot of money. Wouldn't be worth ten thousand sold undercovered? Jackieould certainly
- 6:30nowhere to sell it ol withdn't he Johnny? And why hasn't he showed up?
- 6:33I'll tell you why, because he's probably been killed. I had him
- 6:42two a dollars seventy five breakfast for me and a cup of coffee for tedorl
- 6:45Off on the way into Marlow Copper Products in East Los Angeles. I was
- 6:47amazed at the way this industrial area has grown in the past. For years,
- 6:51the mono operation turned out to consist of a small office and a couple
- 6:55of warehouses. Marlow himself is a tall, lean man of about fifty on
- 7:00the ball, Yes, sermons a dollar. It's as simple as that.
- 7:02Now. Willie here is the night watchman. I do sure, hi willing?
- 7:06According to Willie's clock and the shipping order in the manifest, Jackie mckellian
- 7:11sign has load out at exactly twelve oh five, and that's the last we've
- 7:14seen of either of them. He took off a loan with a load worth
- 7:17ten thousand dollars ninety five hundred. Yes, well, isn't that taking quite
- 7:21a chance? We've done it many times, mister Mornaut promises this Jackie ern
- 7:27a week. Well, I would depend anywhere from one hundred and I'll wait
- 7:30a minute. If you're thinking what I think you are, you're wrong,
- 7:33dollar dead wrong. Just as I said, Johnny, I trust Jackie with
- 7:39my own life, and believe me, whoever's done him in, well,
- 7:43he's going to have to deal with me. I'll see him. Hang.
- 7:45What makes you so sure he's been done in? Honest? The only thing
- 7:47that could have happened to make him give up a shipment of goods a hijacker
- 7:50to have to kill him. And whoever did this to Jackie? Tell me?
- 7:56Do you think there's any possibility of his having been approached beforehand by high
- 8:00Jackie is perhaps threatened into turning the shipment over to them. No, not
- 8:03a chance. He would have told me of anything like that immediately if he
- 8:07had time. Maybe who's working on the case, Thomas Tomorrow? The LA
- 8:09Police department in the sheriff's department of every county in southern California? Are wrong?
- 8:16Your trucks like those two? I see out the window there, Jackies
- 8:18was we got four of those big singles? Did as Now it's three three
- 8:22big tractor trailer rigs. M A truck like one of those is a pretty
- 8:28big hunk of stuff to just disappear, Willie. Yes? Sure? Were
- 8:31you on duty Wednesday? Yes? Sure I was. Did you notice anything
- 8:35unusual about Jackie that night? Why? No? Sure not? Did I
- 8:39knows? He came to pick up his truck alone. I didn't see nobody
- 8:43else with it? Well, did he look worried anything like that? Not?
- 8:46Did I did see? And he didn't say anything that might have indicated
- 8:50things weren't as they should be. Not that I heard. Just exactly what
- 8:54did he do? What the driver always does? Come in, sign in,
- 8:58sign up, the man offit, put down the time, then drove
- 9:01off with his truck. I go, nothing unusual at all, mister Marlow.
- 9:05Where did Jackie live? Somewhere over on West third Street? He lived
- 9:09alone? Naturally, the police looked for him. Their first thing, I
- 9:13have that address, police, I'll have my secretary get it for you.
- 9:16You all too with me, Bosh, Yes, Willie, if you're going
- 9:18to work tonight, you better get some sleep. Yes, sure, thank
- 9:20you. I don't believe me. Nothing's going to happen anything this time.
- 9:26If I were you, mister Marlow, I think i'd have more than that
- 9:28for a night watchman in a place like this. Just what were you thinking
- 9:33of, mister dollar Jackie's address? I mean, look, if the police
- 9:37and sheriff's offices haven't been able to turn up anything, well, in spite
- 9:41of what you said, there's always the possibility of collusion in a case like
- 9:45this between Jackie and whoever stole that truck. There's always the possibility, voluntary
- 9:50or otherwise, if Jackie was in with the hijackers. Even against this,
- 9:54I wouldn't believe what. It's a possibility, whether you want to believe it
- 9:56or not. For one thing, how about the high check is no when
- 10:00and how the shipping was to be made from any one of a number of
- 10:03sources, the man who supervised the loading here, for instance, Red Kingsley,
- 10:07or almost anybody in the place, or just as easily anyone over at
- 10:09Belton Aviation in Victorville. Bell then with no exact time of a departure from
- 10:13this warehouse. Well, no close timing, and a hijack operation is usually
- 10:16pretty important. But they knew the stuff was due with their planned early Friday
- 10:20morning. They've been hollering for it ever since. I'll lay my money on
- 10:22the tip off coming from this end. Now. Has the route between here
- 10:28and Victorville been fairly gone over by the police and they found no sign of
- 10:33either the truck or this fellow jack That's right. The truck, of course,
- 10:35could be disguised. You could have paint, that sort of thing often
- 10:39done, but no body alive or otherwise. No, So how do you
- 10:43plan to proceed? Well, Jackie was forced to participate, I'm sure he
- 10:48wasn't. Then, I don't know. Let me have that address, huh.
- 11:00I didn't have the least idea what I was looking for, but I
- 11:03couldn't just stand around, So I borrowed a company car with a name and
- 11:05a number plastered all over the side and drove to the West third Street address,
- 11:09hoping I'd have no trouble for s waiting the manager to let me in.
- 11:13Manager not in that old ramshackle frame house. The front door was wide
- 11:18open. And the mailbox had the number four up with the Jackie's name that
- 11:22went upstairs. As I reached the second floor, I could see that the
- 11:26door of number four was slightly a jar, and I could hear somebody moving
- 11:30about inside, opening closets and drawers. Quietly, I slipped close to the
- 11:33door. Inside his back towards me was a big, broad shouldered group hastily
- 11:39emptying one of the bureau drawers. He was dressed in dirty work pants and
- 11:41wore heavy tattered blue sweater. Maybe you better than let me ask the questions.
- 11:48Oh yeah, Now, look buddy, doing here? What are you
- 11:52putting into those handbags? None of your visions out here, not until I
- 11:56find out what you're up, I said, get out, and you hear
- 11:58me take it? Oh yeah, do you want to play that way?
- 12:01That's right, brother, that was a big mistake. Oh you asked for
- 12:07you all right? Start talking? What are you doing here? And Jackie's
- 12:16one, what was I doing here? Hey? Look, who do you
- 12:22think you are? Lower something margin in here like this? That's right,
- 12:26Hawaiian, I said Hawaiian mckayon. What that's right? Jackie mccayon Act two
- 12:50of Yours truly Johnny Dollar in a moment. Our flag now numbers fifty stars,
- 12:56and behind each star there stands yet another flag representing one of the fifty
- 13:00states. New Jersey's flag was created at the direction of George Washington in seventeen
- 13:07seventy nine. General Washington directed that the New Jersey Continental Regiments where coats of
- 13:11dark blue with buff colored facing. This was done as a tribute to the
- 13:15former ruler of these colonies, the Dutch, whose national colors were buff and
- 13:20blue. Later, he instructed that the field on the flag of New Jersey
- 13:22should be the same buff color, and the state coat of arms in blue
- 13:26be placed upon it. The state's motto, reflecting the aspirations of all who
- 13:31came to these shores, is also inscribed on the flag, Liberty and Prosperity.
- 13:37This flag was displayed proudly before the combined American and French armies at the
- 13:43surrender of Cornwallis's army at Yorktown. New Jersey state flag, the flag of
- 13:48the third state to enter the Union, was adopted on March twenty sixth,
- 13:52eighteen ninety six. Now Act two of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar and the
- 13:58Wayward Truck matter missing a twenty thousand dollars truck from the Marlow Copper Products Company
- 14:13of East Los Angeles, also missing it's cargo of copper tubing, insured for
- 14:18ninety five hundred dollars, also missing, also insured the driver one Jackie mcatty.
- 14:24And when I found a big, ugly looking character going through Jackie's furnished
- 14:28room, I jumped him. And who does it turn out to be?
- 14:31That's right, Jackie McCatty. Boy, say this buddy, you sure handie?
- 14:35What your dukes for? A skinny guy? Hey? Who are you
- 14:37anyway? Johnny Dollar insurance investigator? And look, I'm sorry I must jump
- 14:43insures. Why, well, I came here to find out what happened to
- 14:45you and the truckload of copper tubing that never got to built an aviation over
- 14:48in Victorville. We are talking about it. Courses did and of course not
- 14:50well why because the shipment was called off That's why. Why. For sure
- 14:56it was supposed to go out Wednesday night, right after midnight, and it
- 14:58did at least they left the warehouse. That's where you're wrong. Because me
- 15:03and Betsy, we was gonna take it. Betsy, Yeah, Betsy,
- 15:05you know my truck only the order got canceled out the office. The office.
- 15:11Well, how should I know? Well, I know as I was
- 15:13here in my room getting ready to go over and pick up Betsy in the
- 15:16tubing and phoning wrong with the girl from the offices, the shipman is canceled
- 15:20out. What girl do you know? I don't know? Some girls says
- 15:24she was in the office as all. You know, one of the girls
- 15:28like they've always giving out the orders, you know, And she told me,
- 15:31the boss says, and a count of there ain't no more trips for
- 15:33me this week. I can stop my vacation right away instead of next week.
- 15:37But you don't know which girl in the office told you that. I
- 15:39told you, I don't know. I told it. Tell mister Mordow,
- 15:43thanks, that's all. Why didn't she tell him? Where have you been
- 15:48since Wednesday night? Well? Donald san Diego is staying at my sisters and
- 15:50doing some yellow tail fishing while I was there. You know, I don't
- 15:54have sent Clement the island boy ain't pulling a big Yeah, there was one
- 16:00on our party body. Hey, wait a minute, what do you mean
- 16:03the shipman went out just that on schedule. A little after midnight. I
- 16:07told me. It hasn't been heard of since you mean it went out in
- 16:14my truck in Betsy, who took it? According to everything we know you?
- 16:18Oh no, sir. By midnight Wednesday, I was halfway to San
- 16:22Diego my car. Look, you asked my sister down there. I got
- 16:25there before one am. Call up and asked, go ahead, calla you're
- 16:27sure of that? Who? Sure? I'm sure? And if some dirty
- 16:33guy took my bets yet, I'll kill him. Nobody write Betsy but me.
- 16:37All were you doing when I came in here packing those bags in such
- 16:40a hurry? What hor my vacation? What's the matter? Don't you hear?
- 16:44Good? Hey, well, look mister, if somebody took my truck,
- 16:48okay, Jackie, okay, calm down and come along with me.
- 16:52We're going back to my little Copper Products to talk with a couple of people.
- 16:56Maybe do a showdown. Jackie. With a name like that, I'd
- 17:03pictured a slim, wiry little fellow, not this big gorilla. And but
- 17:07what he'd said and what he told me on the way back to the Marlo
- 17:08warehouse, I was convinced he was telling the truth about his whereabouts the night
- 17:11of the robbery. But then who could possibly have been a close enough double
- 17:17for Jackie to fool a watchman, or had the watchman been trying to fool
- 17:21me and the police, and why? Or could Milo himself have somehow contrived
- 17:26to But again why? And if Malo was up to something, well,
- 17:32he'd have been smart enough to put or at least keep Jackie out of the
- 17:33way. I was a dollar. Did you find it? Jackie? Hi?
- 17:41Boss? Hey? Hey, what's going on in Jackie? Thank heaven?
- 17:44Boy? You're all right? He thought you'd been killed or something.
- 17:48For me? Where'd you find him? Dollar? Where's the truck? Hey?
- 17:51Boss? That's what I've been trying to find out. Only all this
- 17:53guy here does is ask me questions. The important thing is, you're all
- 17:56right. I didn't tell you this before, Dollar, But he's as much
- 18:00a part of this business as I am. Come on, you started out
- 18:03with me in the beginning, when I didn't have a penny to my name,
- 18:06worked seven days a week, night and day, helping me build up
- 18:10this business. And you've kept him just a truck driver. What I means,
- 18:12just cut me a truck driver. That's why I like it. Oh
- 18:15yeah, even a big retirement. He made for me. I don't want
- 18:18that. I just want to keep on driving the truck just like I am,
- 18:22and maybe go fishing now and end. That's what I like. And
- 18:25I'm know happy and thank god you're still all right. People. What about
- 18:29Bessie, Yes, Dollar, what about the truck? Any ideas? And
- 18:30he leaves. Mister Molow, I want to talk to that night. Watch
- 18:33when he goes again. Willie, that's right. Let's just hope he hasn't
- 18:37skipped town skip town, you see, if you can to locate him and
- 18:40get him down here. Of course, do you think he was involved in
- 18:44the hijack on, Well, let's get him in here if we can,
- 18:45and we'll see something had just come back to me, something pretty damning.
- 18:53In so far as will he was concerned. It was the way he had
- 18:56answered my questions when I talked to him before. Was there anything unusual about
- 19:00Jackie when he came to pick up the truck, Well, not that he
- 19:03noticed, he said. Had Jackie pick up the truck alone? Well,
- 19:07he hadn't seen anybody with him? What had Jackie said? He hadn't heard
- 19:11anything, not one really positive answering a lot or to the other questions,
- 19:17i'd ask him. Much to my surprise, Marlow's phone call brought assurances from
- 19:21Willie. Did he come over to the plant right away? And I told
- 19:26him I'd get somebody else to fill in for him tonight because of the sleepers
- 19:29having to miss. Yeah, well tell me this, do you don't want
- 19:32you to carry a time cluck? That's right? There are punch key boxes
- 19:36located in a dozen or so of spots all over the warehouse, and one
- 19:38in this office. H They register on a paper dial on the time clock.
- 19:41That's right. That way, there's a record at what time he reaches
- 19:45every station on his nightly round. Would you get me that record for Wednesday
- 19:48night? Please? Of course. And while you're at it, I'd like
- 19:49a copy of the shipping order in the manifest for that truckload of copper tube.
- 19:52I'll have my secretary get them for you. By the time the secretary
- 20:00he dug the punch clock record out of the files, Old Willy arrived,
- 20:02looking somewhat the worse for lack of sleep, but apparently willing to cooperate in
- 20:06any way he could. I took him out to the watchman's booth, which
- 20:10was just inside the warehouse. Gate. Ye shame, mister Dollar. This
- 20:15year's my own private office every night. And this is where you were when
- 20:18Jackie mccannon came to pick up his truck Wednesday night. Well, nowhere else
- 20:22would I be. Well, now, that answer is just as different as
- 20:25the ones you gave me before Willie, and I won't do. I asked
- 20:27you if Jackie said anything that night that might have made you suspicious, and
- 20:32I told you not that I heard Nordre. Well did you talk with him
- 20:34at all? Well, no, no reason to. There were just a
- 20:38two of you here in the middle of the night, sure, and he
- 20:41didn't even say hi to each other. No, no reason. Driver comes
- 20:45around to pick up a ship and he well, all he has to do
- 20:48is shine up the maniverse the time he leaves. You knew what time he
- 20:52was to be here, didn't you sure? I mean be sure? We
- 20:56were right under ship and order, But you didn't see it. You didn't
- 21:00see him pick up the shipping order, or sign the manifest or drive out
- 21:03of here with his truck knowing he was coming. You left the gate open
- 21:07for him, or knowing somebody was coming. That's against the rules. Mister
- 21:11Leavin Knight. You weren't here when that truck went out. I didn't say
- 21:15that. I don't know. So far, you haven't said anything. You've
- 21:17just given a lot of evasive answers to all my questions. All right,
- 21:21all right, now, if you were here you were partner to the hijacking
- 21:25operation. No, you'd have had to be, because Jackie mccattyan didn't pick
- 21:29up his truck that night, as you'd have us believe if you were here
- 21:32at the gate that is. And that's something we'll find out right now,
- 21:37Jay, stretch out of my time class, right, and it's dated the
- 21:41night of May twenty second and twenty third. That's the night. Yes,
- 21:45Now, where's station one? Boy, that's that's right there on the gate
- 21:49there, and that's the key. I used to punch my time clock every
- 21:55single night, right on schedule. And I don't know what you're getting that
- 21:59joke. All right, just listen to me and answer my questions. Station
- 22:03number one was punched it eleven forty one. If that's what it says,
- 22:07that's what it was. I wears number two. Well, look, I
- 22:11don't wire is number two. It's your big double doors back in the warehouse.
- 22:18When you're right but now you look eleven forty seven, you must walk
- 22:22pretty slowly. Well, of course I do. I look around to make
- 22:25sure that everything's all right. Okay, now wears number five. Come on
- 22:30number five when the back gate way around the other side of the warehouse.
- 22:34Yeah, a good quarter of a mile from here, And according to this
- 22:38time clock record, that's where you were at exactly twelve o four that night.
- 22:42And brother, I'd like to see you do a quarter of a mile
- 22:45around these buildings in less than a minute to get back here at exactly twelve
- 22:48oh five when you claim Jackie signed out that truck. Well, all right,
- 22:56mister dollar, Yeah, which way am I right? I wasn't here.
- 23:03I left the gate open for him, like often done when I wouldn't
- 23:08be right there for a night shipment like you oftened it. Don't you see?
- 23:12Nothing Knights ever happened before. And when I seen his name on the
- 23:17manifest I know you weren't here when the truck went out, So you don't
- 23:19know a thing. I mean, I thought Jackie too good because I left
- 23:23the catch on the main gates orders looked like it was locked. You haven't
- 23:27done that before, not for Jackie. He was always too close to the
- 23:32boss. Were he and the boy all about that? But I have for
- 23:36the other boys. Yeah, day, You've left this whole place wide open
- 23:40for anybody who wanted to come in and take anything he could lay his hands
- 23:42on. And this time it was a twenty thousand dollar truck with a ten
- 23:45thousand dollars cargo. Willie, you're in trouble plenty. I questioned him further
- 23:55and got nothing more than a few tears and a plea for mercy, and
- 23:57then I turned him over to Marlin. Willie was his problem now, but
- 24:02my own was still far from solved. I wasn't any closer to the missing
- 24:06truck and its cargo than I'd been when I arrived Expencer Count Adam three two
- 24:10twenty lunch for Jackie McKenny and myself. At the lunch from around the corner,
- 24:14we were on our second cup of coffee. You boy, you know
- 24:15that was a good doughnut. That was so mister dollar. And the more
- 24:22I think about it, the more I say that outside of them pretty good
- 24:26in that boss's office, the only ones to be sure what time that shipman
- 24:30was to go out was Willie and Rid Kingsley. Kingsley. That's his car
- 24:37I used. Yeah, he asked the guy he's in charge of all the
- 24:40shipping. Well, how much you know about him? Well? I don't
- 24:45know. After all, you know, he's kind of over me. I
- 24:48thought your only real boss was mister Marlowe. Well he is, you just
- 24:52bet he is. And he's the best friend I ever had too. But
- 24:56if I don't keep my place around a plant, you know, keep support
- 25:00Nathan to the guys that are forming and stuff. And what do you think
- 25:03could happened to the morale a on a plant? Well? Tell me about
- 25:06right anyway? Hello, Well, I just got a call from the Sheriff's
- 25:11substation in Victorville. Yes, they picked up some of that shipment of copper
- 25:15tubing. You see, we put a staff on every piece. Then.
- 25:17Whoever, Hi, Jackson is already getting rid of me. Yes, but
- 25:19so far nobody's admitting where they got it. It's that Air Metals Company and
- 25:23Stress Products Incorporated, both near Victorville. You want to check on it.
- 25:27Use Kingsley's car again, right, Hey, Hey, do you want me
- 25:30to show you're out Jackie? Go to it, and believe me, we
- 25:41went. I don't know whether the police along the route had been alerted to
- 25:45let us buy or not, but we earned more than one speeding ticket before
- 25:48we hit the cutoff around Victorville, the cutoff that would take us on past
- 25:51Edward's Air Force Pays, where the plants we were looking for were located.
- 25:53All along the way, Jackie had carefully scrutinized every truck we passed going and
- 25:57either direction. No, no shame maker model. But she and Betsy.
- 26:04Oh, Jackie, don't you realize that truck of yours is, no doubt
- 26:07thoroughly disguised by now You think her father couldn't tell his own little baby,
- 26:11no matter how disguised there was. Maybe but a truck, Yeah, look
- 26:17at that one up ahead, you know, the one we're pulling up on.
- 26:19Also shame maker model, only this one's painted green. I wight to
- 26:23slough as we pass it. She ain't Betsy, even from here I could
- 26:26tell. What did he say? Well? I didn't quite. Hey wait
- 26:37a minute, that's Betsy. You're sure that paint Chobo's pretty cool? That's
- 26:41you? I know by a sound you're stopping block her off? Hey,
- 26:44Red, that's what he shot it. And this is Rip Kingsley's car.
- 26:48With a company name all over it. Yeah, that's why he thought we
- 26:51was read when we passed her shore. And look, look he's catching up
- 26:52on us. He sure knows we ain't read by now. Hey, look
- 26:56out peaking a piloto us peaking a rabbit? I know? Come on,
- 27:22has come? Look, I hate to keep slapping. You want to push
- 27:26this way? Come on? Oh it's okay, it's okay, all right,
- 27:30I'm over here. Yeah, your files up the road to that out
- 27:33of the truck. They had the sheriff's car up up There were a couple
- 27:37of thousand miles of copper pive spread all over the country sea. Oh yeah,
- 27:41I edged him off the highway and flicked over. Well, why did
- 27:45you do that? Why? I wait to hear those cops dot? Do
- 27:48you think I was a hero or something? Guys in the green truck rammed
- 27:52you off the road, didn't he That's right. Well, when the cops
- 27:56seen that happened, they tried to force the truck off. Mister. That's
- 28:00something like Clara Belle, Clara Belle. Yeah, that's what I call is
- 28:04tractor trailer rigamine. It's not the first time I've given the police a hand.
- 28:15Yeah, They've given a lot of people a hand. Those boys who
- 28:19drive the big interstate trucks and trailers, they're pretty fine bunch to have on
- 28:23the road. Well, I guess it's pretty obvious that Red Kingsley and Marlowe
- 28:27Shipping Department was back at the hijacking operation. The two who were aboard the
- 28:32stolen truck turned State's evidence and sang plenty and the courts will take care of
- 28:36them. Expense acount total in putting air transportation and incidentals back to Hartford five
- 28:41oh one oh five, yours truly, Johnny Dollar. Now here is our
- 28:59star to tell you about next week's story. Next week. But if you
- 29:03think a certain case of complete amnesia is any fun, you're wrong, because
- 29:07it happened to me, john Us. Won't you yours truly, Johnny Dollar,
- 29:30Yours truly, Johnny Dollars, starring Bob Bailey. Originates in Hollywood,
- 29:34which is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone, who also wrote tonight's story.
- 29:38Heard in our cast were Boris Lewis, John Diner, Junius Matthews, Stacy
- 29:44Harris, and Jack Crusian. Musical supervision is by Amrigo Marino. Be sure
- 29:48to join us next week, same time and station for another exciting story of
- 29:53Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar. This is the and coverly speaking, welcome back.
- 31:15Well. I like the twist about the truck driver showing up at the
- 31:22end of the episode. This is an episode where, or in the middle
- 31:25of the episode. This was an episode where I think that probably the journey
- 31:29was better than the destination, just because there were so many red herrings thrown
- 31:34in there to get to the solution, but less of substance to the mystery
- 31:41because people like the night Watchmen, or ultimately just a distraction. Well,
- 31:47now we turn to listener comments and feedback, and we start with an interesting
- 31:56note from a listener regarding episode of Yours Truly Johnny Doller. Aaron says,
- 32:04well, listening to the Mad Hatter Man, I was reminded of Sherlock Holmes.
- 32:08The story sounded a lot like the Adventure of the Retired Colored Men.
- 32:13An older man marries a younger woman. The younger woman isn't tossed away by
- 32:16a man of career. The husband murders his wife. It sounded so much
- 32:20like the last adventurer of Sherlock Holmes. Proofs that there's nothing new in this
- 32:23world, loving the podcast. Keep up the good work, thanks so much,
- 32:28Aeron, and I have to admit I think I had kind of a
- 32:31sneaky reminder of that myself, and that is a good imperence. And it's
- 32:37also an example of how mystery writers get inspired by other mystery writers. That's
- 32:45true for writers of all stripes. Some comments coming in on our Lost Episode
- 32:52podcasts, particularly the M and O'Brien episode. Pastor Lisa comments, I really
- 32:59enjoyed this episode. It was my first time hearing EM and O'Brien and he
- 33:02was pretty good. I love Johnny Dollary, He's my favorite. I'm glad
- 33:06to get another day of him. Keep up the good work at him.
- 33:08And Jeff comments listen to day then TCM ran it on EM and O'Brien day
- 33:15last week. What a treat, great work at him. Glad to know
- 33:17that Turner Classic Movies is remembering the great work of EM and O'Brien. And
- 33:22one thing that is on my very long to do list is to go ahead
- 33:29and try and get a separate feed set up for episodes of Yours Truly Johnny
- 33:38Dollar before Bob Bailey, as well as a separate one for the serials so
- 33:44that people can enjoy those altogether. Some other comments, lend Us says,
- 33:51I appreciate your consistency and research. Those are key differences or differentiators from most
- 33:57of the other podcasters. Thank you, keep up the great war. And
- 34:00then we have Gary, who emails in to say I really enjoy your podcast.
- 34:07Your insight and commentary are great. I'm seventy four and could not get
- 34:14through boring workouts at the gym without them. I just found these and found
- 34:16a backlog of all the podcasts, so I'm catching up. I did not
- 34:21have TV until I was fourteen, so these are very familiar and enjoyable.
- 34:25Well, thanks so much, Gary. I definitely appreciate your comment, and
- 34:30I appreciate anyone who's still hitting the gym at seventy four. Thanks so much
- 34:35for your comments, and definitely appreciate everyone's feedback and support that will actually do
- 34:40it for today. Remember to support the listener support campaign, support dot great
