- 2:37Well, ladies and gentlemen, it was a crazy, crazy weekend for
- 2:42baseball. The New York Yankees head into
- 2:44the playoffs and the Mets packing it up and going to golf,
- 2:48and they're not going to be hanging out at the Ryder Cup
- 2:51after all the New Yorkers and the way they acted, that's a
- 2:53whole nother story. I'll get into that a little bit
- 2:56later in the show because I think they're absolutely
- 2:57horrific. They're horrible people.
- 2:59I'm, I'm just saying it. Long Islanders at the Ryder Cup
- 3:03were disgraceful, disrespectful. I don't care if they're
- 3:06European. I don't.
- 3:07If they're from the US or Canadian, you show little
- 3:10respect. I don't care who you are and how
- 3:13much you hate that person. These guys go out there, they're
- 3:16making sure that they're entertaining you for what is it,
- 3:2018 holes every single day, four days this past week and
- 3:25embarrassed themselves. 36 those Friday and Saturday, 18 on
- 3:29Sunday and there's only three days.
- 3:31Oh, OK, Three days. Whatever.
- 3:32I didn't watch most of it. I got.
- 3:33I went there Saturday. I stopped there Saturday for
- 3:36about, I don't know, 2530 minutes.
- 3:39It was packed. I didn't want to deal with the
- 3:41people. The media was crazy.
- 3:43Everybody was trying to get most of the interviews with some of
- 3:46the golfers at the tail end of probably the 16th or 17th hole,
- 3:53and a lot of people were just trying to get their time and get
- 3:55their recordings and they were walking all over the greens.
- 3:59And I just didn't enjoy it. The little bit of time that I
- 4:02was there, I didn't enjoy it. But again, Bethpage Black is an
- 4:06interesting place to be. The restaurants are cool.
- 4:10I like the food, so I'm not going to complain about the
- 4:13food, but I I didn't get a chance to eat much of it because
- 4:16I wanted to stay the hell away from it.
- 4:17So, but it was, it was a nasty, nasty weekend when it comes to
- 4:21the the New Yorkers that were there.
- 4:23I I thought it was disrespectful.
- 4:25I didn't like it was so bad. But the Mets fans are not very
- 4:29excited. They're not happy right now
- 4:31because the Mets are packing it up and going to have to figure
- 4:34out what they're going to be doing in the offseason.
- 4:37Do they make some trades? Do they have pitching?
- 4:39There's a couple of big names that are going to be available
- 4:42in the offseason, Allen being one of them.
- 4:43Maybe the Mets make a run at one of these guys, but they can't
- 4:47depend on the young guys. We will get into that.
- 4:48I know a lot of Mets fans are not very happy about that, but
- 4:51we'll get into that in just a few moments.
- 4:53Wild card weekend, and I say wild Card weekend because there
- 4:58were so many teams fighting for where they're going to be.
- 5:01The Yankees could have won the division on Sunday.
- 5:04Unfortunately, the Blue Jays went on a winning streak just
- 5:07like the Yankees. They completely outplayed Tampa
- 5:11over the weekend and the Yankees obviously tried their best and
- 5:15worked their asses off to to win the division at the tail end of
- 5:18the season. But after losing series after
- 5:21series, you know, middle in the middle of the season against the
- 5:24Blue Jays, it affected their opportunity to win the division.
- 5:28So unfortunately, the Yankees are going to be matched up
- 5:31against the Red Sox this coming week.
- 5:34And if you're a Yankee fan, are you excited about that?
- 5:36Well, it's the Yankee and Red Sox rivalry.
- 5:39So you're going to sit there and you're going to enjoy it.
- 5:41But to me, I'm not excited about that Jabba.
- 5:44And then we'll get into the whole Judge and rally thing
- 5:47because it seems like that's the talk of the town.
- 5:50Who gets the MVP. Is it Judge who's had a superb
- 5:53year? And if you want to ask and you
- 5:55kind of look at what Aaron Judge has done over the last three
- 5:58season, it's utter world worldly.
- 6:01And I'm going to tell you this right now.
- 6:02If you compare some of the great Yankee seasons, great Yankee
- 6:05seasons, even the Mickey Mantle era, the Babe Ruth era, the Joe
- 6:09DiMaggio era, those eras, these three years, four years that
- 6:13Aaron Judge has put up and really shut people up as the
- 6:16best player in the league could be some of the best years we've
- 6:19ever seen a Yankees, a Yankee player have.
- 6:21But Jabba, how are you? How was your weekend?
- 6:26It was good. It was.
- 6:28It's hot here now. It is literally like perfect
- 6:31weather right when it needs to be, like in the morning, get up,
- 6:35headed to the gym. It's awesome.
- 6:36And then get stuff done. Then you go back out around
- 6:40lunchtime and you have to change three times a day.
- 6:43Living in Nebraska right now, living in Lincoln, because it's
- 6:47it's the way it goes. And it's like, well, then you're
- 6:49too hot. So you change clothes and it's
- 6:51like at night, Oh, you want to just hang out outside on the
- 6:53deck, put your feet up. You got to put a jacket on a
- 6:56sweatshirt, but no, other than that it was great.
- 6:59Is a great weekend for sports. Obviously not the way we wanted
- 7:01to end it in golf, you know, a for effort and everything that
- 7:05happened there. Was it great sports?
- 7:07I don't know. For effort I mean.
- 7:09I mean, the players, they work, they play.
- 7:11Yeah, you could have gave it. I mean, yeah, fans are going to
- 7:14be fans, though. I I don't know if you guys will
- 7:16get into it. I don't we're not.
- 7:17Obviously you guys don't like golf, so we're it's not even on
- 7:20the conversation today, but I'm going to get into it because
- 7:23there's a lot of golf fans around.
- 7:24But what do you expect to happen in New York?
- 7:26Literally, if you guys saw Chipper Jones said the same
- 7:29thing. He played here 12 to 15 times
- 7:31for 20 years. His wife and kids were never
- 7:33allowed. Don't get it.
- 7:35Understand you're going to get it.
- 7:37And I, I have, I've been called worse.
- 7:40I've been, I've had batteries thrown at me.
- 7:42I've had everything understand what you're going to get when
- 7:44you come in, unless it's attacking family, whatever.
- 7:48And the. Thing was, it was.
- 7:51Yeah, but nobody threw anything at Rory's wife.
- 7:55They hit it. There's a there's a video of it.
- 7:57They hit it out and they just so happened to hit her.
- 8:00And so, yeah, the the part of is it right?
- 8:02No, but what do you expect? I mean, that's that's fans,
- 8:05that's what they're going to do. It happens everywhere and that's
- 8:10just that's the nature of the beast.
- 8:11You know what's going to happen. And when you chirp back, don't
- 8:14expect them not to chirp back. There's videos of you chirping
- 8:17as well, like so that's the name of the game.
- 8:20Like it is what it is. It's not going to change, but it
- 8:24was fun to see. Obviously not the ending that we
- 8:27wanted, but yeah, it expected exactly what it was a little bit
- 8:33closer on Friday, Saturday, Sunday was obviously impressive
- 8:36for for a lot of guys. And you know, it was, it was a
- 8:40fun weekend for, I don't know. I don't know about that.
- 8:43It wasn't fun for Met fans. It wasn't fun.
- 8:45Well, it was fun for the giant fans.
- 8:47I know they're they're excited. Well, fun for you, but you're
- 8:50not everyone jobber. You're one person.
- 8:52There's billions. I know, but I'm just speaking
- 8:54for myself. I don't speak for everybody
- 8:56else. I'm saying I speak for me.
- 8:58I got it. I got it.
- 8:59The Met Mets collapse Ladies and gentlemen, the New York Mets
- 9:02completed one of the largest collapses in baseball history,
- 9:05getting eliminated from the playoffs on the last day of the
- 9:09season. The Mets, in a must win
- 9:12situation all week, lost two out of three games versus the lonely
- 9:17Marlins while the Reds won two out of three games versus the
- 9:21Brewers to sneak into the last spot of the National League Wild
- 9:25Card. On Sunday, the Mets were shut
- 9:28out four to nothing and only had five hits.
- 9:32Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto both grounded into double plays
- 9:37with runners in scoring position and Pete Alonso lined out with
- 9:41the bases loaded. The Mets used eight different
- 9:45pitchers in yesterday's game and many fans were questioning
- 9:48Carlos Mendoza's methods of pulling pitchers too early.
- 9:54The Mets had the best record in baseball at 45 and 24 on June
- 9:5912th and had the best ERA in baseball since then.
- 10:04They went 38 and 55 and had the fifth worst ERA.
- 10:09And we're tied. And we're tied for the fifth
- 10:13worst record in baseball with the Angels and only better than
- 10:17the Rockies, Twins, Nationals and White Sox.
- 10:19The Mets announced on Monday that yes, I know Met fans are
- 10:23not very happy about this. They will keep manager Carlos
- 10:27Mendoza for the 2026 season, while owner Steve Cohen
- 10:32apologized to fans for their failure on social media.
- 10:38Well, Steve Cohen has a lot to say, but little words to say.
- 10:43And Met fans out there should not be very happy for what we
- 10:47saw in the second-half of the season.
- 10:50The second-half of the season was absolutely horrible and
- 10:55mephedites are going to sit there.
- 10:56They're going to make every single excuse, every excuse in a
- 10:59book. And I'm going to get into Juan
- 11:01Soda because the excuse that he made after the game speaking to
- 11:05the media was just non apologetic because he should
- 11:09apologize. You're the leader of this team.
- 11:11You and Francisco Lindor are the leaders of this team and you
- 11:17laid up a lousy goose egg the final two games of the series.
- 11:22It was a must win weekend. The Yankees needed to win all
- 11:25three games to try to win the division.
- 11:27They did, but so did the Blue Jays.
- 11:30The Yankees did what they needed to do to fight for the division.
- 11:35The Mets had no chance of winning the division but had a
- 11:38chance to go into the playoffs. What McClain and Tong and some
- 11:43of the young players that they have on this roster and they
- 11:47just didn't show up when they needed it.
- 11:49They didn't show up. Pete Alonzo opted out right
- 11:52after the game, as expected, and Pete Alonzo is going to go to
- 11:56free agency and he's going to have a pick and he's going to
- 11:59make the pick on where he decides to go because they're
- 12:02going to be teams lining up for him the season that he had he.
- 12:05Had the best batting out. Do you like, do you like how he
- 12:07announced it right away, like right after the?
- 12:09Loss or I do I do because he. Wants.
- 12:12Because he wants the Mets to understand I am out there.
- 12:15I'm putting myself out there. It's time to make a move and
- 12:18make a move before the playoffs are over.
- 12:20Because if you let me go out there and about to sit down with
- 12:24team after team after team, I'm going to make my decision.
- 12:26I don't want to be here. The Mets gave Lindor the
- 12:29extension as soon as they traded for him.
- 12:31They gave Juan Soto an extension after they they made the move to
- 12:35bring them in. They they made sure that Juan
- 12:37Soto got paid. They gave him $768 million.
- 12:42Pete Alonso got a three-year deal.
- 12:45To me that wasn't even worth the the value that he is as a
- 12:50player. He is the face.
- 12:52He's been the face of the New York Mets organization in their
- 12:55farm system. Remember, this is a guy that was
- 12:58called up as an older player. He was 25 years old when he came
- 13:03up as a New York Mets player. Remember the Mets drafted him
- 13:07and he and he just didn't develop.
- 13:09He didn't develop in AAA or AA for a little while.
- 13:12But once he figured things out, Peter Lonzo became the face, the
- 13:15heart and soul of this organization.
- 13:18I remember 3 years ago when he came out, he said I'm getting
- 13:21rid of all my social medias. I don't want to interact with
- 13:23anybody that is interactive with me and the team.
- 13:27I want to go out there. I want to be a leader.
- 13:29I want to show my leadership. By doing that, he's done
- 13:32everything right. As a New York Mets player, he's
- 13:35done everything right. He's put up the numbers.
- 13:37He's when he's healthy, he's putting up those power numbers.
- 13:40He's hitting over 100 RBI's over almost 40 home runs every single
- 13:43season. The nickname the polar bear, to
- 13:46me, that will be the biggest loss from this this season and
- 13:51the offseason if Beat Alonzo decides he wants to part ways
- 13:54with the New York Mets. It also showed you he believes
- 13:56in himself. Yes, because instead of going
- 13:59out and do it, he took a one year 30 million basically
- 14:01saying, Hey, this is on me like and if I fail, obviously in a
- 14:05walk year, it is definitely going to change what my number
- 14:09could be and to go out and have the year that he did on the
- 14:12level that he did. And you know, I just hats off to
- 14:16him because it it takes it takes some big cojones to you know
- 14:19what, especially in this market, he gets it.
- 14:21He has he has the quirky, weird personality that fits really,
- 14:26really well. I wouldn't say, and obviously
- 14:28I'm not in the clubhouse, so I I don't know from a leadership
- 14:31side, but the way he handles the media and interviews and how
- 14:34he's just, I feel like he's authentically himself.
- 14:36And I think the polar bear fits very, very well.
- 14:38But hats off to him for for literally like, you know what,
- 14:41I'm going to bet on myself. And not to say 30 million was
- 14:44chump change for a year, but to know to not give in to what the
- 14:49numbers were that he didn't feel like he was valued at right and
- 14:52go out and do what he did. So I mean, it, it's it's going
- 14:55to be fun for him. I mean, obviously he hopefully
- 14:58he's playing this game for, you know, a championship, but you
- 15:02know, he's he can look himself in the mirror and be like, I did
- 15:04everything I could. And and he's going to reap.
- 15:06He's going to reap the benefits of it.
- 15:07That's he. Came out and said he wants to be
- 15:09a Met for life. He he pretty much said that he
- 15:12wants to be here. So it's not like he's going out
- 15:14there looking for the most money.
- 15:15The Mets can pay him the most money.
- 15:17They have the richest owner in baseball.
- 15:19So it's not like Steve Cohen, Uncle Stevie can't open up his
- 15:22pockets. He opened in his pockets for
- 15:23Soto. He's given Lindor the green
- 15:26light to possibly be the captain of his team.
- 15:28They have young pitchers that they can build around, but they
- 15:31need veteran pitching. And that's something that the
- 15:34Mets are going to have to go after.
- 15:35So the Mets, again, are going to go into an offseason where
- 15:38they're going to have to spend a significant portion of money
- 15:42that you're talking about. Pete Alonzo is going to be
- 15:44asking for about $180 million. That's what he's going to be
- 15:48asking for between 160 and 180. And then you look at the
- 15:51pitching that are going to be available.
- 15:53There are going to be good pictures that are going to be
- 15:54available this year, Maybe not as good as Max Freed was last
- 15:58year, but there's there are good pictures that are going to be
- 16:01available. So the Mets are going to have to
- 16:02spend the money. But here's the problem.
- 16:05And I know everybody is going to go through the what ifs and
- 16:08after this weekend, what if the Mets won those two games?
- 16:10Do the Mets make a run? Do they win a World Series?
- 16:12Does this team have enough to win a World Series?
- 16:15Last year? This is practically the same
- 16:17team, just with Juan Soto and some of the youth pitchers that
- 16:21they have. But that was just a miraculous
- 16:24season they had, especially in the playoff run that they had.
- 16:27I don't know if they're going to be able to mimic a season like
- 16:29that. I said that to Met fans when
- 16:31they went into the NLCS. I said this might never happen
- 16:34again with this roster. We might never see this again.
- 16:37So cherish this and hope the Mets can get over the hump and
- 16:40beat the Dodgers and maybe play the Yankees in the World Series
- 16:42and we see another Subway Series.
- 16:44But it didn't happen that way. And the fact is, I blame Carlos
- 16:48Mendoza because Mendoza got a lot of credits over the last two
- 16:52seasons. He's been there.
- 16:53Last year, what the Mets were doing in the season that they
- 16:56had, he was up for manager of the year.
- 16:58He was great. He did everything right.
- 17:01And this year, I'll say this about David Stearns because
- 17:04everybody is going to sit here and say, oh, David Stearns is
- 17:07the grass. He's still a great GM.
- 17:09Look what he's done. Look what he's put together.
- 17:11Well, what does he put together? A complete debacle.
- 17:13That is what he put together. This team fell apart, this
- 17:16roster that he built in the offseason over the last two
- 17:19season seasons have not done what they were supposed to do.
- 17:24You added Juan Soda, you absolutely a playoff team.
- 17:27You spent $768 million and you fall short with Juan Soda in a
- 17:32lot of the career year Juan Soda had.
- 17:34And then Juan Soda going out there and blaming the pitching.
- 17:38That's what he said yesterday after the game.
- 17:40While our pitching was sensational in the beginning of
- 17:42the season, our ERERA was one of the best in the league and then
- 17:45all of a sudden injuries and this and that.
- 17:48How about take responsibility Juan and you're the captain or
- 17:51one, one of the leaders of this team.
- 17:53You're not captain. You're you're not you're going
- 17:55to be a Co captain of this team. You Lindor, you're, you guys are
- 17:58going to be the faces of this organization for the next 5 to 6
- 18:02years because Lindor signed a long, dear long, long contract
- 18:05as well. So you look at the picture here,
- 18:08these two guys went out there. Lindor took responsibility.
- 18:11I listened to his media press. I listened to what he said.
- 18:14He said, listen, I got to play better.
- 18:17It's on me to play better. I'm a leader.
- 18:19I'm supposed to be out there. I'm supposed to hit.
- 18:21I'm supposed to put myself out there and make sure that I could
- 18:24put the ball in play. I couldn't do that.
- 18:26Juan Soto didn't say that. Juan Soto said, well, we have a
- 18:30chance next year to be good. We're going to work hard over
- 18:33the offseason. How about this?
- 18:35Going into the season, remember when you signed with the Mets?
- 18:38Remember what you said at that press conference when the media
- 18:40asked you what was your Why did you decide to go to the Mets and
- 18:45not stay with the Yankees? Does anybody remember what he
- 18:47said, Speedy? Do you remember what he said?
- 18:49He said that the Mets were the best team in New York.
- 18:51He said that he has a better chance of winning with the New
- 18:55York Mets than he does with the New York Yankees.
- 18:58Now let's let's Fast forward it from the whole season, 162
- 19:03games. Was Juan Soto right, everybody?
- 19:07What he said. Before this is a song.
- 19:10He was never right. I didn't think for like a month.
- 19:13The Mets are an organization. They're they're a trendy
- 19:16organization. And everybody's going to ask,
- 19:18what do you mean? Your trend on the Internet,
- 19:21social media? Here's what the Mets do.
- 19:23When the Mets are winning, fans are all over social media.
- 19:26They're blasting. Look, we have a chance to win a
- 19:28World Series. Look at what Soto's doing, the
- 19:30unbelievable season. We've got some youth.
- 19:32We've got this pitching. Look up McClain.
- 19:35This guy's going to be a Cy Young winner for the next three
- 19:37or four years, Tom, Look at these guys.
- 19:40Lubricate the balls with this. And what happened, what
- 19:43happened? You can't depend on youth and
- 19:46youngsters to sneak into the playoffs.
- 19:48And by the way, Holmes, Clay Holmes did exactly what he did
- 19:52with the Yankees, with the Mets. He started the season off strong
- 19:56as a starting pitcher and he was in the he was a relief pitcher
- 19:59for the Yankees and he completely died off.
- 20:03Then they moved him to the bullpen.
- 20:04He was even worse in the bullpen.
- 20:06And Edward Diaz came out and he said he's opting out, which
- 20:09tells me. Edwin Diaz might be looking for
- 20:12a new job in the offseason, playing for a new team because I
- 20:15don't see the Mets extending him because they added the pictures
- 20:18that they added during the trade deadline.
- 20:20They gave up prospects. I don't see the Mets doing it.
- 20:23Maybe they look at maybe two or three guys instead of 1 and
- 20:27Edwin Diaz pay two or three guys instead of 1.
- 20:30Because Edwin Diaz is going to be asking between 20 and 22
- 20:33million a year to get to be one of the best relief pitchers in
- 20:36baseball. And I don't see the Mets giving
- 20:38him that kind of money. And the Mets right now say
- 20:41whatever you want, guys, you're going into an offseason where
- 20:45there's a lot of questions, a lot of questions of this team.
- 20:48They're and they had the best, one of the top 10 farm systems
- 20:52in baseball in the beginning of the season.
- 20:55All those guys are called up now they're but now you're going to
- 20:58look at they're going into the offseason.
- 21:00When we look at the franchises and where they're their
- 21:03franchises are when it comes to talent in their farm system.
- 21:07I bet you the Mets are in the 20s, late 20s, mid 20s.
- 21:11They're nowhere close to what they were when the beginning of
- 21:13the season happened. And what does that tell me?
- 21:15You're putting a lot of pressure on these youngsters and the Mets
- 21:18fans are not going to sit here and make up all these crying
- 21:21antics. Well, if we don't bring Pete
- 21:23Alonzo back, we can't win. Oh, really?
- 21:26Oh, really? Because Mets fans, including
- 21:29Josh Silverberg and you know, Josh, if you're listening to the
- 21:32show, you could call. You can argue with me all you
- 21:35want. You're the one that told me that
- 21:38the Mets were not going to make the playoffs.
- 21:40I give you credit for that. You came out and you told me two
- 21:43months ago, this team is going to fall short and they're going
- 21:45to fall short. Short really, really hard.
- 21:47And what did I tell you, Josh? If the Mets fall short, it's
- 21:50going to be that final weekend in those last three games when
- 21:54the Mets, all they have to do is win one game and they're in,
- 21:58they're going to choke. Why?
- 21:59Because Juan Soto is one of those guys that chokes, chokes
- 22:05when pressure is on him. Yes, everybody's going to say,
- 22:07wait a second, Juan Soto won a World Series.
- 22:10He won an MVP in the World Series.
- 22:11Yeah, that was when he was 19 years old.
- 22:13What has Juan Soto done so far since that national
- 22:17championship? What has he done?
- 22:20He's done nothing. He's played for three other
- 22:22franchises since then. I'm not saying Juancho isn't
- 22:25great. He's a sensational player.
- 22:27But is he a winning player? Is he going to bring a
- 22:31championship home to the New York Mets?
- 22:34I'll tell you this and we're going to get into the whole Dak
- 22:37Prescott media service. Last night after the game, 40 to
- 22:4140, I, I want to say Michael Parsons absolutely laid out the
- 22:44lousy goose egg and I told fans why the Cowboys did not sign
- 22:49Micah Parsons and he proved why he is not good under pressure.
- 22:53I'll get into that a little bit later.
- 22:55But when you're a superstar player, you're making a
- 22:57significant portion of your team's money.
- 23:00You got to go out there and be the face.
- 23:02You got to go out there and make the plays.
- 23:04You got to go out there and get the hits.
- 23:06You didn't do it, Juan. The reason why the Mets didn't
- 23:09make the playoffs is the blame. And there's only one player to
- 23:13blame here. It's Juan Soto.
- 23:16It's Juan Soto. I'm blaming Juan Soto because
- 23:18Juan Soto came out there and said $768 million.
- 23:23I am the best player, one of the top three players in the league.
- 23:26He said that. Well, Aaron Judge came back from
- 23:30a UCL injury. He still played when he needed
- 23:34to make and he needed to hit and he needs to make plays.
- 23:37Aaron Judge did that. Is Aaron Judge starting in the
- 23:39outfield this playoff run? Absolutely.
- 23:42He absolutely is. That tells me that this man is a
- 23:46leader. This man will put up his body,
- 23:48will put his body on the line for this team because he wants
- 23:52to win. Are you willing, Soda?
- 23:55Are you willing to put your body on the line for this
- 23:57organization and this team and not worry about $60 million that
- 24:01you're going to make every single year?
- 24:02Because I remember at the All Star game during the All Star
- 24:05break, you were complaining that you didn't get voted in by your
- 24:08peers. You were complaining that you
- 24:09didn't get that $100,000. You're complaining every single
- 24:13part of this season that you need help.
- 24:17Well, guess what? The help is coming.
- 24:22What is What is going to be his excuse next year when this team
- 24:25falls short? What is going to be Speedy?
- 24:28You're a fan. What are you talking about?
- 24:29He needed help. He had Alonzo and.
- 24:32No, he, he, he says what that pretty much said he needs
- 24:35pitching help. That's what he said.
- 24:36He says we need help. So when you get help in the
- 24:39offseason, when you get the pitching, because you know,
- 24:42Steve Cohen is going to open up his pockets and David Stearns is
- 24:46going to get every bit of that money to spend it around and
- 24:49sprinkle it around like, you know, if you like, how can I say
- 24:53this? You like pasta without.
- 24:55You can't eat pasta without cheese.
- 24:57Grady cheese. You need Grady cheese.
- 24:59If you don't have Grady cheese. If I don't have Grady cheese,
- 25:01I'm not eating the pasta. OK.
- 25:04If, and that's what the Mets are going to have a chance to do,
- 25:06they're going to have the grated cheese.
- 25:08They're going to sprinkle it on this team.
- 25:10Is it going to be enough? Is this team able, with the
- 25:15players and the personalities on this roster right now, to get
- 25:18over the hump and win a championship?
- 25:19My answer Right now, as far as I'm concerned, the answer is no.
- 25:23It's hard when you look at a team culture that's never going
- 25:27to change, and that's a problem we've seen over the years with
- 25:30the Mets having these high expectation seasons and some
- 25:33things. 1993 was considered like the worst team money could buy.
- 25:36The whole book was written at that point. 2007 was the massive
- 25:40expectations of Sports Illustrated on the cover.
- 25:43They spent a lot of money with, obviously Beltran, Delgado and
- 25:45all those guys. They went to the NLCS and choked
- 25:47the year before, and now a new ownership comes in, a new regime
- 25:53comes in, still spending money, and the same problem happens
- 25:57again. 2007 it. Was 2006, wasn't it?
- 26:012006 was the year they went to the NLCS, they lost it against
- 26:03the Cardinals. 2007 was the year after where they had their
- 26:06historic collapse at the time and then they did it again in
- 26:092008. Not to the statistical drop off
- 26:11we saw, but they were still up by 5 games in the last month of
- 26:13the season. This year they were up in the NL
- 26:17ES just sweeping the Phillies in August and all of a sudden they
- 26:20forgot how to play baseball. They lost two out of three to
- 26:23the Marlins and the Nationals twice.
- 26:26That cannot happen. You don't have this kind of
- 26:30thing. There's teams that spend money
- 26:33and have a good system to work on it, and they do not have
- 26:36that. They have a arsenal of talent.
- 26:38They have a player development organization.
- 26:40That's gotten better, apparently, because the kids
- 26:42were the saving grace really in the end of the last two.
- 26:45Months. Didn't he spend $50 million on
- 26:48the the these mathematicians, these, these guys, these
- 26:52analytic guys he created, he built a whole system.
- 26:56Steve Cohen went out. There, what's Fish call him?
- 26:59Fish calls him the Lenny's or. Something Lenny's the Yankees
- 27:01guy. He has to think of one for the
- 27:02Bats guy. Whatever it is, the fact is, is
- 27:06he spent $50 million in the offseason to bring in all these
- 27:10these new, you know, analytic guys, these personal, personal
- 27:14guys that are scientists and guys that are figuring out the,
- 27:19you know, the the water, the new water system.
- 27:22I don't know, whatever he's he's looked for these guys, he has
- 27:26them. And everybody says this system,
- 27:28the way the Mets are spending their money, they're spending
- 27:31it, right? We'll put the Wilpons didn't do
- 27:32that. They didn't go and dig into
- 27:34their pockets the way they should have to help out the
- 27:36analytic program. The Yankees have been using it.
- 27:38The Braves have been using it. The Saint Louis Cardinals have
- 27:41been using it. All there's elite teams in the
- 27:43league have been using it. And Mets didn't want to go out
- 27:45there because the Wilpons were too busy giving off giving
- 27:49Madoff all their money and Madoff was robbing everybody
- 27:52and, and pretty much sitting behind bars.
- 27:54And now may he rest in peace. I guess he's he's gone now.
- 27:57But I don't want to, I don't want to put him down or any of
- 27:59that stuff. I don't like death.
- 28:01So. But to me, the Mets organization
- 28:04have been an absolute joke. And there's nothing to scream
- 28:06about besides this team and this organization needs to find the
- 28:11right, the right mathematical equation.
- 28:14And the right mathematical equation is not spending $768
- 28:18million. It's taking a significant
- 28:21portion of that money and splitting it off into sectors of
- 28:26this team that they have been missing.
- 28:29And I have, I've said this over and over and over again, the
- 28:32Mets bullpen is been really, really, really, really, really,
- 28:37really bad for the last 10 years.
- 28:40They have never, they have one good guy and the rest of the
- 28:43guys. And then I have two good guys
- 28:46and one guy goes down. And then the rest of the, the,
- 28:48the bullpen is they never healthy.
- 28:51And when they are healthy, they're all not playing well or
- 28:54one guy's playing well. It's, it's horrible.
- 28:57And I know everybody says it's bad luck, but when you go out
- 28:59there and you make trades, at the trade down line, you had
- 29:02guys that were All Stars, you added guys that were All Stars.
- 29:05Housley was an All Star this year, was he not?
- 29:09He was an All Star. And what did he do when he came
- 29:11to the New York Mets? He did nothing.
- 29:14Struggle Bus. He was bad, he was bad.
- 29:17And again, Mets fans, there is no excuse to this.
- 29:21And then you have Juan Soto throwing the pitching staff
- 29:25under the bus. He didn't say it in a in a
- 29:28derogatory way, but what was the first thing the media asked him
- 29:30was why do you think this collapse happened?
- 29:32He said, well, you know, our pitching was one of the best in
- 29:34the league in the beginning of the year, the year RA was up.
- 29:36And then all of a sudden injuries happened and everything
- 29:39started to collapse in the bullpen.
- 29:41That was the first thing he said.
- 29:43Instead of coming out there like a leader would and say, listen,
- 29:46I got to play better. I got to play better in the
- 29:48bigger games. I didn't show up in this week,
- 29:50these weekend, this weekend's games.
- 29:53I failed against a bad Marlins team.
- 29:55Everybody knows the Marlins are bad.
- 29:57You couldn't hit against the pigeon from the Marlins.
- 30:01Everybody was hitting against. Them, they got some good arms.
- 30:03They got some. Good.
- 30:04It wasn't those guys that were the missing.
- 30:06Though do you know what their ERA was?
- 30:08The Marlins ERA was in the month of September.
- 30:12Their ERA was over 8 the Marlins.
- 30:16But that's why I said when you're in this position now, you
- 30:21have nothing to play for being the Marlins and the National.
- 30:24Like let's go ruin somebody's season.
- 30:27Mind you, they're in the cellar anyway, so let's pour salt in
- 30:30the moon like those are. I would rather play teams in it
- 30:33and fighting. Sometimes you press and you do
- 30:37the you got nothing to lose. Like I already planned my
- 30:40vacation. I'm leaving October 2nd like I'm
- 30:42out. So let's, let's ruin somebody
- 30:45else's. Let's let's make sure they plan
- 30:47a vacation early. Like I don't I don't like them.
- 30:50We've seen it plenty of times where it's like these dudes have
- 30:52nothing to play for but themselves.
- 30:54It's it's the very few times and fortunate enough only in 2008 of
- 30:58my career to to not have that feeling of, Hey, we're going to
- 31:02the postseason where it's like, you know what, I'm going to play
- 31:04for myself right now. Because anybody that says
- 31:07they're not doing at that point, especially free agent guys like
- 31:10you want to go out on a high note.
- 31:11You want to go like, so you're playing for yourself and you're
- 31:14like, all right, well, here I go.
- 31:15Let me ruin somebody's season. Let me go rake.
- 31:18And that's what that's what you were saying.
- 31:19Like there's nothing to lose like with those types of
- 31:21pitchers too. Like Yuri Perez is good, but
- 31:23like the other guys they were facing are not like anywhere
- 31:25close to like you would think, tough pitchers.
- 31:27Perez is really good. Like he was great before he got
- 31:30hurt. But that's the problem with the
- 31:31Mets is they're just pressing as a result of this.
- 31:33And Arrow's right about Soto and and these other guys that just
- 31:36didn't in the clutch. Like obviously the pitching was
- 31:39the bigger like longer term problem with the two-month span
- 31:42that they had. But the the hitters didn't help
- 31:44their own 'cause either by not scoring off those guys.
- 31:46And remember Aaron Judge last year, remember when Aaron Judge
- 31:49hit a significant portion of home runs and everybody said,
- 31:52oh, what an excellent season, you're going to be the MVP.
- 31:55And he says at the end of the season when everybody knew he
- 31:58was going to win the MVP, what did he say?
- 32:00He said this season means nothing if I don't win a
- 32:03championship, right? That's what he said.
- 32:05Did you want so to say that after the fact?
- 32:07They didn't even make the playoffs?
- 32:08No. The first thing he said was I'm
- 32:10going to blame somebody. I have to blame somebody.
- 32:13I'm going to blame the pitching staff.
- 32:14That's what I'm going to do. I had a remarkable season.
- 32:17I I'm making 60 million a year. Why am I complaining?
- 32:21I did everything I was supposed to do.
- 32:23That's my team. It's me, me, me.
- 32:25When it comes to Soto, it's not we, we, we, as we all say in
- 32:28France. So to me, it's it's been a big
- 32:31problem for the New York Mets and the Yankees had that
- 32:33problem. We want Soto last year as well.
- 32:36It's a big problem. When Donaldson came to the
- 32:39Yankees. Remember that?
- 32:41Remember when Donaldson came to the New York Yankees, everybody
- 32:44was like, is this going to work? Is it not going to work?
- 32:48And then Donaldson, there were stuff going on.
- 32:51People were saying there was stuff going in in the bullpen.
- 32:53I mean, in the locker room, stuff was going on.
- 32:56You know, during the games, he was yelling at the fans.
- 32:59He was yelling at other teams in the dugouts.
- 33:01Remember that everybody thought, oh, this guy could be great.
- 33:05This guy was an MVP. This guy's a leader.
- 33:07Now, I'm not saying I'm not saying he is Juan Soto because
- 33:12he's not Juan Soto. But this guy won an MVP at one
- 33:17point of his career. He was a great player.
- 33:19And this guy was also a guy that the Yankees thought was going to
- 33:22be the missing piece to get him over the hump because they
- 33:25needed a third baseman that could play defense and give him
- 33:27that power, which they haven't had over there on that side it
- 33:31since Alex Rodriguez. Nick, tell me, Yankee fans, when
- 33:35was the last time they had a power bat at third base?
- 33:38Could anybody know? Does anybody know it was Alex
- 33:41Rodriguez? A rod.
- 33:42A rod. It was Alex Rodriguez.
- 33:44Think about that. Think about how long ago was a
- 33:48rod playing for the New York anchors?
- 33:49When was the last time Alex Rodriguez played for the New
- 33:52York Yankees? 2016 I believe.
- 33:54So 2016, so that is, ladies and gentlemen, that's almost nine
- 33:58years ago. Nine years ago.
- 34:02That's how long the Yankees have been looking for 1/3 baseman.
- 34:05The Mets have been looking for a superstar player, a top five
- 34:08player in the league for years. And don't give me Lindor,
- 34:12because he was just a top five player one year with the Mets
- 34:15and that was last year in his career with the Indians.
- 34:18He was not a top five player. He was a top 15 player, top ten
- 34:21player maybe at one point. He was never a top five player.
- 34:24Juan Soto every single year is a top five player.
- 34:28He's been a top five player when he was with the Padres.
- 34:30He was a top five player at the tail end of his career with the
- 34:33Nationals. He's been that with the Yankees
- 34:35the year that he was with the Yankees.
- 34:36Now this year he's top five play with the Mets.
- 34:38This guy is one of the best players in the league and should
- 34:41be one of the leaders of your team.
- 34:42And what did he do? He went there after the game
- 34:46trying to figure out you didn't hear Edwin Diaz do that.
- 34:49Did anybody see Edwin Diaz throw the pitching staff for the
- 34:51hitting or the roster? All he said is I hope Peter
- 34:55Lonzo, I hope the Mets bring me back.
- 34:56I want to be a Met for life. I hope if I opt out of my
- 34:59contract, I hope Pete Alonzo comes back.
- 35:01Me and Peter are very good friends.
- 35:02We're we, we're like a family here really.
- 35:06If you're a family wise wants soda throwing your family, his
- 35:08family under the bus. Does any family member usually
- 35:11throw their family under the bus?
- 35:14Usually you would say no. I mean, not good ones.
- 35:17So it doesn't look good for the New York Mets.
- 35:19It really doesn't. And now you're bringing it, you
- 35:22keep it. Carlos Mendoza, the same coach
- 35:26that couldn't keep this team together.
- 35:28There was a lot of fighting in the dugout throughout the
- 35:31season. There was a lot of craziness
- 35:33that was going on. Nobody was seeing it because
- 35:36they kept it. They kept it quiet.
- 35:39But David Stearns, who everybody says, oh, he was the mastermind
- 35:42of the Brewers, really the David Stearns is not there anymore.
- 35:46Are they winning? Are they?
- 35:48Have they continued to win? Well, everybody's going to say,
- 35:50well, it's David Stearns team. He built that team.
- 35:53I don't give a crap. That team is playing well and
- 35:56it's not what David Stearns. So stop it, Met fans.
- 35:59Stop telling me that David Stearns is one of the best
- 36:01baseball minds in a league because this baseball mind had a
- 36:04chance to make more moves when it comes to the pitching staff,
- 36:07and he failed to do so. And that's why, ladies and
- 36:10gentlemen, the Mets are going to be sitting home watching all
- 36:14these National League and American League teams play while
- 36:17they're sitting home eating Twinkies with Juan Soto,
- 36:20millions of Twinkies, because he's a very rich man.
- 36:23Last comment before we move on. Java, you've mentioned all the
- 36:26time like how you didn't like being used, like switching off
- 36:28roles and like not knowing what your role was going to be too.
- 36:31They did that literally in one game yesterday with eight
- 36:33different guys like Brooks, Rayleigh, they pulled really
- 36:36early, which I was surprised that even Brazobomb before that,
- 36:38he's a guy that can provide length and you're just going to
- 36:40pull him out of nowhere. Like you make none of these
- 36:42pitchers comfortable doing it that way.
- 36:44Again, it's one thing if you're doing it like throughout the
- 36:46season, you can get them used to different things, but it's
- 36:49another thing where you're randomly throwing them into
- 36:51these types of things with Minai in the beginning and then all
- 36:54these different relievers later on, then Diaz in the 5th inning
- 36:56and you're actually desperate at that point.
- 36:58So it really is just a bad formula and I'm surprised
- 37:01Mendoza wasn't a fireable offense for him.
- 37:03To The 2025 MLB Wild Card Round is set and will begin on
- 37:08Tuesday. In this format, the higher
- 37:11seeded team gets all the home games for the best out of three
- 37:15series, the National League. The number six seed Reds will
- 37:19travel to Los Angeles to play the number three seed Dodgers,
- 37:24while the number 5 seed Padres will travel to Chicago to play
- 37:29the number four seed Cubs. In the American League it is
- 37:33rivalry week as we all say as we will see the number six seed
- 37:38Tigers playing the number three seed Guardians and the number 5
- 37:44seed Red Sox facing the number four seed New York Yankees at
- 37:49the Bronx. The Cle Cleveland was able to
- 37:52win the Central and get home field in the playoff round,
- 37:55while the Yankees lost the tiebreaker to the Blue Jays for
- 37:58the American League East, but will host the Red Sox as the
- 38:02higher seed. The number 1C Brewers and #2
- 38:08seed Phillies await the winners in the National League, while
- 38:11the number 1C Blue Jays. Crazy to say that and #2 seed
- 38:15Mariners do the same for the American League.
- 38:18You know it's crazy. I would have never thought the
- 38:20Blue Jays and the Mariners were going to be the top seeds 2
- 38:24seeds in the American League. It just tells you how equal and
- 38:28how UN I'm savvy. I don't even, I don't even know
- 38:32what kind of word I can use about, well, how bad the
- 38:35American League is. It's bad, OK, The American
- 38:37League is bad. There's nothing good about the
- 38:40American League. Everybody knew that the Yankees
- 38:42have the best roster. The Tigers all season long
- 38:46showed why they're one of the best young teams in the league.
- 38:48Then all the stuff happened over there with the executives and
- 38:51the sexual stuff. And I, I don't know, I, I don't
- 38:54know what Detroit team we're going to see throughout the
- 38:57playoff because there's a lot of clouds over them, a lot of rain
- 39:01and thunderstorms over them. But the Yankees are the best
- 39:05team in the American League. I don't think you can argue that
- 39:07right now. Cleveland, they have the same
- 39:10roster they had last year. As a matter of fact, they lost
- 39:12pieces. They don't have Class A Class A
- 39:15is out for the year because of the betting scandal.
- 39:18They lost a load of pitch and Bieber's not no longer there.
- 39:21He was traded. There were a couple of players
- 39:23traded after trade deadline. Nobody would have thought
- 39:25Cleveland was going to sneak into the playoffs.
- 39:28And then they won the division and the Tigers and the Red Sox.
- 39:33Red Sox are a young team. There's two players right now
- 39:35that are not even going to make this roster, at least in the
- 39:39wild card game, the three series, the three-game wild card
- 39:42series against the New York Yankees because of injuries.
- 39:47You're you're looking at the American League right now.
- 39:49If the Yankees don't win the American League, it's
- 39:52catastrophical. It's catastrophic.
- 39:54Just think about it, the the National League is so much
- 39:58better than the American League. The Chicago Cubs are great, the
- 40:02Dodgers are great. They're getting healthy.
- 40:03The Reds looked really, really good the last month and 1/2 with
- 40:07Terry Francona and, and expect Terry Francona and the Reds to
- 40:10make a run this year because Terry Francona knows how to win.
- 40:14I took shots at Goody and Jabba. I'm going to take it back.
- 40:19I'm going to go back. You want to play this rewind
- 40:21game? This is the remix.
- 40:23I'll give you the remix. Jabba and Goody said that the
- 40:29Reds were going to make the playoffs.
- 40:32They believe somehow they were going to sneak in the playoffs.
- 40:34I did not think so. And after what I saw early in
- 40:38the second-half of the season, I said this team cannot find a way
- 40:40to win. They find every way to lose.
- 40:44And I was wrong. The Reds did make the playoffs
- 40:47and now anybody could win. Any bowl, team bowl or any
- 40:52baseball team at any organization could win in the
- 40:55playoffs. All they got to do is get in.
- 40:57We've seen it. Do we remember a couple of years
- 40:59ago the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Arizona Diamondbacks
- 41:03remember that? Nobody would have thought that
- 41:06the Texas Rangers in the Arizona Diamondbacks except me, because
- 41:09I picked it before the playoffs starting speedy would come and
- 41:12vouch for me. I was the guy.
- 41:13You picked Texas. You picked Texas to wear it all.
- 41:15Yes, you did. Over the Phillies.
- 41:16I. Believe.
- 41:16Was it Phillies? It was the Phillies, but the
- 41:18Phillies were close, too. They were right there.
- 41:19Yeah, whatever I I had, I had Texas winning.
- 41:22But I, I will, I will go back in and look at going into this up
- 41:28and coming three-game series with the Dodgers.
- 41:32The Dodgers are going to be a hard out.
- 41:33If somehow the Reds win this series and knock off the the
- 41:38deferred Dodgers, I call them DD double DS as a speedy, you know
- 41:42what double DS mean. The double DS, if they get
- 41:44knocked off the Reds, absolutely can surprise and shock the world
- 41:50because they match up very good against the Padres.
- 41:53They match up very good against the Cubs.
- 41:55I absolutely believe that. And, and by the way, the two
- 41:58teams right now, the Brewers and the Phillies, the Phillies are
- 42:00the best team. The Brewers have been up and
- 42:02down really the last two months. The Brewers are nowhere close to
- 42:06the team they were all in the first half of the season.
- 42:09They're not. It is wide open if the
- 42:12Cincinnati Reds knock off the Dodgers because the Dodgers are
- 42:15scary, because they got Otani, they got Mookie Betts, they got
- 42:19this pitching staff, this roster, this bullpen is stacked.
- 42:23I mean, they can hit from 1:00 to 9:00.
- 42:25I mean, there's nobody when it comes to the roster that can
- 42:29match up against his team, not even the Phillies.
- 42:31The Phillies were even with health, they're not anywhere
- 42:34close to the Dodgers. They're not, but I'll tell you
- 42:37why the Phillies are, are the favorite because Kyle Schwarber
- 42:40to me is the besides Otani. You can argue it's him or Otani.
- 42:44Schwarber and Otani have been the two best players in the
- 42:47National League and in the American League.
- 42:49We're going to get into a judge and rally and we can argue back
- 42:52and forth with that. I, I, I could really see
- 42:55Schwarber winning the National League.
- 42:57MVPI could see it. He's had a sensational
- 43:00second-half. Sensational.
- 43:03Wasn't he the MVP of the All Star game?
- 43:06I mean, I mean everything, everything.
- 43:08He's touched his turn to gold this year in Kyle Schwarber and
- 43:11he stayed fairly healthy. I think he played 100 and 43144
- 43:15games. This is a good Phillies team and
- 43:18they're healthy. The only thing they're missing
- 43:20is Wheeler. That will hurt them.
- 43:22But they have two sensational pitchers that made the All Star
- 43:25team or should have made the All Star team this year.
- 43:28So it's wide open. I, I think this is going to be
- 43:30one of the best playoffs we have seen in a very long time.
- 43:34You know why? Because I can honestly tell you
- 43:37I can't pick the winner that's coming out of the National
- 43:39League. And I definitely can't pick the
- 43:40winner. That's coming out of the
- 43:41American League, right? Now, now and you you mentioned
- 43:44it with the Blue Jays, like them being the one seed, it seems
- 43:46kind of surprising considering all the drama that they went
- 43:48through in the offseason. A-Team like a team that was
- 43:49aging and it seemed like a last ditch effort type of team that
- 43:53happened even two years ago with the young core that they had.
- 43:56It reminds me in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, nowhere
- 43:58the best team in the Eastern Conference, but were they really
- 44:00as good as they showed? And they end up losing in the
- 44:02second round. I feel like the Blue Jays could
- 44:04be vulnerable of that. Plus with the Pies too, which is
- 44:06something that's affected teams since this new playoff format
- 44:08started. So Toronto was going in on an 8
- 44:10game-winning streak or something like that, and now they're going
- 44:12to lose a lot of that momentum. So I do worry about them.
- 44:14Seattle is interesting because they have the pitching depth and
- 44:17they probably have the best bullpen of the American League
- 44:20teams. The Padres are the best bullpen
- 44:21I think of all the playoff teams, but the Mariners
- 44:23definitely have it in the American League.
- 44:24The Yankees have the best roster overall.
- 44:26I agree for sure now that they're healthy.
- 44:28In the American League. Oh, and yes, I think the
- 44:30Phillies and Dodgers are a little better than them on
- 44:31paper, than the Yankees, but the Yankees I definitely think.
- 44:34Are if, if Aaron Judge hits, if he hits in the playoffs, the
- 44:38Yankees are going to the World Series.
- 44:40If he hits, there's no way the Yankees are going to be stopped
- 44:43because you know you're going to get hits from Giancarlo Stanton.
- 44:46He's a great playoff player and, and, and I, I still believe that
- 44:51Bellinger is. We've seen what Bellinger has
- 44:53done with the Dodgers. We've seen what he's done as an
- 44:55MVP player. He is a great player.
- 44:57He's and by the way, he's the best left-handed hitter in
- 45:01baseball. He's batting 370 against left
- 45:04hand left-handed pitching. So the Yankees have been a has
- 45:07had a problem year in and year out against left-handed
- 45:10pitching. I you're going to have
- 45:11Bellinger, who's the best in the league now.
- 45:13So the Yankees are put in a position where they have the
- 45:16ability, something they didn't have last year with Juan Soto.
- 45:20As good as Juan Soto was, and he was great in the playoffs, Juan
- 45:23Soto had problems hitting against left-handed pitching.
- 45:27Bellinger is not. He's the best in baseball.
- 45:30So the Yankees are better than they were last year.
- 45:33We want so the crazy to say that, but they are.
- 45:35And Max Freed is a better pitcher than Garrett Cole was
- 45:39last year. Max Freed is 19 and five with a
- 45:422.81 or 86 ERA. His WHIP is almost at one.
- 45:47This guy, besides the pitcher that he's going to be facing in
- 45:51game #1 is probably the MVP. Well, I'm sorry, Tarek is also
- 45:56up there. These three guys, these three
- 45:59guys from Detroit to the Yankees and the Red Sox.
- 46:02These three guys are up for the Cy Young either or could win.
- 46:06But I think it's Tara Tarik is the best pitcher in baseball.
- 46:09So I I think he's going to be the guy that's going to win the
- 46:12Cy Young. But it's it's crazy that the
- 46:14Yankees with the what the Yankees have done this year.
- 46:16And by the way, nobody could say that the Yankees weakness is
- 46:19their ERA because the Yankees throughout the season, they were
- 46:23up and down with the bullpen at one point, but as far as they're
- 46:26starting pitching, they've been amongst the top ten in baseball
- 46:30all season long, all season. Even with Clark Schmidt going
- 46:34down and getting getting healed back later in the season.
- 46:38This is a team that's had injuries.
- 46:41They didn't have Nestor Cortez this year.
- 46:43There was a lot of questions to this roster and rotation that
- 46:47questions were answered. Max Freed was worth every penny.
- 46:50The Yankees gave him every penny.
- 46:52Bellinger and Freed Goldschmidt was up and down this year.
- 46:57Wasn't really what I expected him to be.
- 46:59Fell off in the second-half. But what these two guys gave the
- 47:02Yankees was more than Soto gave, and cheaper than what Soto was
- 47:07going to cost the New York Yankees.
- 47:09Yeah. And when you look at this series
- 47:10too, you mentioned Crochet like how much he's gotten strikeouts
- 47:12this year. So that'll be a big test for the
- 47:14Yankees playoff identity because the Yankees have had post
- 47:16seasons where they have historic amounts of strikeouts
- 47:18collectively. And then the pitching depth
- 47:20after, that's going to be very interesting, those matchups to
- 47:22see which Rd. Don you't get in the post
- 47:23season. Like you said, Luis, he will be
- 47:25able to recover the way he did. Red Sox have Lucas Giolito
- 47:28probably be the second guy who's been very good in the
- 47:29second-half of the season. And they probably have AI
- 47:32wouldn't say a deeper bullpen, but a bullpen that's been a
- 47:34little more consistent. The Yankees just got to the
- 47:35extremes, but the Red Sox, they have nothing to lose.
- 47:38The Yankees have a lot of pressure.
- 47:39So it's going to be very interesting just to finish up
- 47:41with the National League before you go job.
- 47:42I agree with that. All the Phillies are the best
- 47:43team, I think. Yeah, the bullpen's a question
- 47:45mark, but there's not a lot of great bullpens in this
- 47:47postseason right now, so. You know, Giolito's out for the
- 47:50wild card. Oh, is that OK?
- 47:51I didn't realize that. So yeah, that should help the
- 47:54Yankees in that case, too, because now you're going to
- 47:56trust a lot of those younger guys, Bellow or Whitlock, any of
- 47:59those guys, to bounce back and like be that type of guy again.
- 48:01Whitlock's had a Goodyear for him.
- 48:03He's always been good for them like pretty steadily.
- 48:05He was better like probably in his earlier years, but he's had
- 48:07a nice year. But just to finish up with the
- 48:08National League, the Phillies most complete team and they have
- 48:11a good like collective of like brotherhood type team, good team
- 48:14culture and they're combined with the power combined with the
- 48:16on base. I think it's the best
- 48:17combination everything Milwaukee and they probably have an easier
- 48:20cluster playing the Brewer or the Cubs or the Padres down the
- 48:22road. But I think I still don't trust
- 48:24him over the Phillies of the Dodgers.
- 48:26Yeah, it's it's going to be interesting all around.
- 48:30Ariel brings up a good point. Like I think it's it's always
- 48:32been the AL like being, you know, in the NLS been and I I
- 48:36think it was more so with the DH and and stuff like that.
- 48:38And I, I think it's, it's definitely changed since that,
- 48:41that dynamic has been removed from the game.
- 48:44But it's, it's going to be exciting because they're, there
- 48:48are there, there's the expected teams, right?
- 48:50And then there's the other ones where you're like, Oh, I didn't
- 48:52expect them to have this good a year or this person.
- 48:55And that's the greatest thing about we're, we played 162
- 48:59games. Everybody's like the season's
- 49:00too long. This game, 162 mattered for a
- 49:04lot of things. And, and it made a lot of people
- 49:07money. It's going to have an
- 49:08opportunity to make a lot of guys more money because they
- 49:10made the playoffs. They get they get that
- 49:12opportunity to shine and to crazy that 161 doesn't really
- 49:17matter when it comes to 162 where you can change the
- 49:19division and wild card and like so I'm excited for it as it
- 49:24breaks down. I it's going to be tough for the
- 49:27Yankees to to get on crochet. I love watching him pitch.
- 49:32I think it's he bet on himself and and told the White Sox to
- 49:35fly a kite. I want to start and good for
- 49:38him. So yeah.
- 49:40And then the the NL two, I was reading some things today too.
- 49:43It's like it's weird. I have this eerie feeling that
- 49:46it could be an O9 rematch just, you know, with the Phillies and
- 49:50you know, and and Thomas, he understands how to win.
- 49:53They've been there before, guys that that know how to win, you
- 49:56know, bringing in David Robertson off the couch, which
- 49:59is a bold move And and D Rob's that that perfect dude to do
- 50:02something like that. He's he's that guy.
- 50:05So it's going to be interesting. I think Seattle has some stuff
- 50:08to prove. I don't know if their pitching
- 50:09is going to hold up. And then I mean, Cubs, you just
- 50:13never know. It was really cool.
- 50:15I don't know if you guys saw Matthew Boyd, just an emotional
- 50:17start in game one. It was really, really cool.
- 50:19And I got an opportunity when he was younger when he was really,
- 50:22really struggling and just a great, great dude.
- 50:24And it'd be interesting to see what Cade's going to do.
- 50:27Obviously up for Ricky, you Retrick Baldwin, the Braves, but
- 50:30he's got like a broken rib or whatever it is, so that that'll
- 50:33be interesting. I'm just excited.
- 50:35This is a great time. I I I love the wild card series,
- 50:38how it went from the winner take all to to this three-game
- 50:42series. And you know, obviously there
- 50:44there is pride in having the best record of being able to
- 50:46stay at home too. So I, I kind of love that
- 50:49dynamic of, of what they've created.
- 50:52In one of the most talked about MVP races and some time there is
- 50:57much disagreement over who should take home the American
- 51:01League honors. The National League race is all
- 51:04but overdue to the late push by DH and outfielder Kyle Schwarber
- 51:10of the Phillies, but pitcher DH Shahuatani is anywhere from
- 51:15-10,000 to -20,000 favorite for the award, which would be his
- 51:21fourth MVP of his MLB career. In the AL the odds are much
- 51:27closer with Judge and Rally being dead with some sports
- 51:32books favorite favorite Judge and others favorite the big
- 51:36dumper. Raleigh has had an incredible
- 51:39season breaking all the power records for catchers and tying
- 51:43Babe Ruth with 60 home runs and third most ever in the American
- 51:47League behind Roger Maris and who Aaron Judge.
- 51:50Raleigh finished the season with 60 home runs and 125 RBIs, had
- 51:56110 runs and fourteen stolen bases with a .247 batting
- 52:03average and a .94 O, 48 OPS and a 9.1 WAR.
- 52:09Judge hit over 400 until the last week of May and put up
- 52:16ungodly numbers in in his own right, winning the first batting
- 52:21title with a .331 batting average with 53 home runs, 114
- 52:27RB is Judge has a whopping 100 and 3737 runs scored with a
- 52:351.145 OPS, 12 stolen bases and a 10.1 WAR.
- 52:41This is Judge's 3rd 10 plus WAR season in the past four.
- 52:48I I Some say the stats that are Judge's favorite shouldn't
- 52:53matter. Raleigh plays catcher, which is
- 52:56far more demanding than the outfield.
- 52:59Also, Judge missed 10 games this year while Raleigh played in all
- 53:04but three games. I will say this, Raleigh
- 53:08deserves a lot of credit. This guy is a switch hitting
- 53:11power hitter. I know a lot of people want to
- 53:13compare him to Mickey Mantle, He's not Mickey Mantle.
- 53:15Anybody that wants to compare him to Mickey Mantle is an idiot
- 53:18because Mickey Mantle, you can argue if he didn't have all
- 53:21those injuries, is probably the greatest player to ever play
- 53:24professional baseball. A lot of people would say that.
- 53:27I don't think anybody would argue that except Joe DiMaggio
- 53:30and he's got. The fact here is these two guys
- 53:35deserve a lot of credit. Aaron Judge hitting over 400 in
- 53:39the month of May is a sensational feat.
- 53:42I we haven't seen that in in about what?
- 53:45We haven't seen that in about 50.
- 53:46That was 15 years. Who is the kid that plays for
- 53:49the Padres that did it? I think he's the only one that's
- 53:51done it in the last 20 years. Who's the kid that that's a free
- 53:54agent this year? Luis.
- 53:56Oraz Oraz did it. He was closed.
- 53:59He didn't. He didn't get there.
- 54:00No, but he hit 400 for for about a month and 1/2.
- 54:03He was hitting 400 for a month and 1/2 so.
- 54:06This is the only the second time in his career he didn't hit 300
- 54:09right. So he only he only walked 27
- 54:12times in 650 plus at bat. So, yeah, and I agree with you,
- 54:16Raz is the only guy that hit over 400 that I could remember
- 54:20in the last 15 to 20 years. And that's crazy because we talk
- 54:24about Ted Williams and we, I don't think Joe Dimaggio's
- 54:27hitting streak will ever be broken.
- 54:28Ted Williams and it's 400 batting average.
- 54:32I don't think he'll ever be broken either.
- 54:34I I think it's, it's one of those things that I just, I
- 54:36can't see happening. I can't see it because 162
- 54:40games, the way pitching is now, the way the analytics are out
- 54:44there now where you can figure out ways to pitch against these
- 54:46guys. I I just don't see it.
- 54:48I don't think it's ever going to happen.
- 54:50But again, what Judge did this year is remarkable because
- 54:54everybody's trying to compare the last two seasons and what he
- 54:58was putting up the last two seasons, which was remarkable.
- 55:01And we talked about what Raleigh did with 60 home runs.
- 55:04Aaron Judge hit more two years ago.
- 55:06So you, we could go back and forth and everybody says, well,
- 55:09they had these balls as they, what do they call them?
- 55:12The Goldilocks, The Goldilocks balls absolutely ridiculousness.
- 55:17And and that's, that's perfect for ridiculousness.
- 55:20The TV show to me right now, Aaron Judge should win the MVP
- 55:25because if you look at the statistics and I don't have my
- 55:27phone and if I have my phone, I, I was looking at stats that he
- 55:32leads the league in. There's like 5 or 6 different
- 55:36percentage stats that are not even close.
- 55:39Not even close. And I'm talking about National
- 55:42League and American League. It's not even close.
- 55:45Not Shea Otani, not anyone. Kyle Schwarber even comes close
- 55:50to that. And this guy's a power hitter.
- 55:52This is a guy that a lot of people thought was never going
- 55:54to hit 300. This guy's a borderline career
- 55:58300 hitter. I think he's career 294 right
- 56:00now. By the time he's done with his
- 56:03career, he could be a career 306 foot eight, 280 lbs of muscle.
- 56:09It's ridiculous. Everybody's trying to figure out
- 56:12who's the next Derek Jeter, who's the next face of baseball.
- 56:16I don't think it's an argument. I know Sheratoni
- 56:18internationally. Is he internationally?
- 56:21He is. But Aaron Judge in America, here
- 56:24in the United States, Aaron Judge is the face of baseball.
- 56:30He is. If you go all over the country,
- 56:32there are more Yankee fans than any fan in the world.
- 56:36I'm talking about even football. When you go around and you look
- 56:40at the Cowboys, everybody says Cowboys, America's team.
- 56:43There are more Yankee fans and you can look this up.
- 56:46Anybody want to look at a statistic?
- 56:47There are more Yankee fans in the world that any professional
- 56:51team, except soccer. There are soccer teams, but
- 56:54that's European. I'm talking about here in
- 56:55America, there is nobody that comes close to what the Yankees
- 57:00bring in when it comes to money and endorsing and sponsorships,
- 57:04hat sales, jersey sales and who is the biggest sell, Who is the
- 57:08biggest sell for the New York Yankees?
- 57:11It's Aaron Judd. No, Raleigh has had a great
- 57:13year. He's a catcher.
- 57:14The position is so hard to play. It's probably the hardest
- 57:16position to play in baseball because he's the one that's
- 57:20calling defensive plays. He's the one that's shifting the
- 57:23infield, he's shifting the outfield.
- 57:25He's the voice of the manager in the dugout.
- 57:28So what he does is so very important and he's the best
- 57:31catcher in baseball. I don't think you could argue
- 57:33that, but when you look at statistics, statistics in
- 57:38baseball mean everything when you're trying to decide such a
- 57:42close race. You're batting 247 to a guy
- 57:47that's batting 331 and he's playing with a tear in his UCL.
- 57:53Think about that, guys. He is playing with a tear in his
- 57:58elbow. Elbow and he's putting up these
- 58:02numbers, he's extending and he's at the plate probably in a lot
- 58:06of pain, probably getting shots in his elbow every single game.
- 58:09I don't know if he is. He's not feeling no pain, by the
- 58:12way. Probably not because he's
- 58:13getting the shots, but you know what I'm talking about.
- 58:16You got to put your body on the line for your team.
- 58:19Is Juan Soto one of those guys that are going to do that?
- 58:22I don't know because Juan Soto threw his team under the bus.
- 58:25This man came back when a lot of people said maybe he should hang
- 58:28up the cleats this year. Maybe he should sit out.
- 58:31The Yankees have a lot of money invested in this guy.
- 58:34He's not going to be able to. He's going to be a bona fide DH.
- 58:36It doesn't matter. Aaron Judge is going to start in
- 58:39right field in game one on Tuesday.
- 58:43He is. Why?
- 58:45Because he's a leader. He stands for something.
- 58:47I'm not saying Raleigh is not a leader.
- 58:49I'm not saying he's not sensational.
- 58:51He's not Aaron Judge as far as I'm concerned with the National
- 58:54League, Kyle Schwarber, what he has done this year.
- 58:59And I'm not saying, oh, Tony doesn't deserve it.
- 59:02He wins it every year. He wins it every year.
- 59:05I'm not saying I don't know what job is going to say.
- 59:07So what? He earned it.
- 59:09He should win. I know what he's going to say.
- 59:11But here's why I'm going to say differently.
- 59:13Kyle Schwarber, if you remember, this guy was a catcher.
- 59:16He was brought up. He grew up in the Cubs
- 59:18organization. This guy had bad knees.
- 59:23A lot of people were wondering if he was a bonafide DH.
- 59:25Then he moved to the outfield. He was really bad.
- 59:27His first two years in the outfield, he was really bad.
- 59:31OK. And then the people were saying
- 59:33maybe he goes to the American League.
- 59:34I know the Yankees were interested in him.
- 59:36When he became a free agent, the Yankees, the Phillies decided to
- 59:39make a move for him and and really help him.
- 59:42And I got to give a a lot of credit to Thompson.
- 59:45I think Thompson is one of the most underrated managers in
- 59:48baseball. Because if you see what Thompson
- 59:51has done with this team since he's taken over for Joe Girardi
- 59:54is absolutely remarkable. They have the best National
- 1:00:00League winning percentage, yes, in the National League since
- 1:00:04Thompson has taken over this team.
- 1:00:06Think about that. You have the deferred Dodgers.
- 1:00:09You have all these teams in the National League, good teams.
- 1:00:13And since Thompson has taken over for the Phillies, they have
- 1:00:16the best winning percentage in the National League.
- 1:00:20Think about that. Snap that, snap that into
- 1:00:24however way you want to snap it. You want to take a picture of.
- 1:00:26It they have the best the best hitting coach too.
- 1:00:28Oh yeah, I know Long is is your your friend Kevin Long and I
- 1:00:32love. I literally he just, I just he
- 1:00:34just text me really. Kevin Log and I'd love to get
- 1:00:37Kevin Log on the show. Love to get him on.
- 1:00:40The show? Yeah, we'll get him on.
- 1:00:42I, I think it's remarkable what Thompson, Kevin Long, what this
- 1:00:45organization has done. And by the way, they haven't won
- 1:00:48in a very long time. Remember Rollins?
- 1:00:51I, I see him on TBS all the time.
- 1:00:53I, I, I, I, I was never a big Jimmy Rollins fan because he
- 1:00:58hated the Yankees. He hated the Yankees, but I
- 1:01:02respect what he has to say. And he said pretty
- 1:01:04straightforward about this organization.
- 1:01:06And I'm I'm speaking about the the Philadelphia organization.
- 1:01:10He says this was an organization of it.
- 1:01:12It protects their players and stands behind their players and
- 1:01:15stands behind management. Something must have happened
- 1:01:18with Joe Girardi when he was there for him not to keep his
- 1:01:22job and then to shift to Thompson.
- 1:01:25And they must have knew that Thompson was the best fit for
- 1:01:28this organization because this guy hasn't budged.
- 1:01:31He hasn't budged since he's taken over this team.
- 1:01:34He has been better and better every single year.
- 1:01:36To me, the Phillies are the best team in baseball.
- 1:01:39They're the best team in baseball right now, and I don't
- 1:01:41think you can argue that right now.
- 1:01:43They have been the best team in baseball all season long, going
- 1:01:48162 games. Comparison to the Brewers or
- 1:01:51what they did in the first half. This has been the best team in
- 1:01:54baseball. And the reason why is everybody
- 1:01:56buys in. This team buys in to Thompson.
- 1:02:00And what does that tell you about who he is as a manager, as
- 1:02:03a father figure to these youngsters?
- 1:02:05It tells you that this guy is the guy.
- 1:02:09This guy is a guy that these players are going to follow all
- 1:02:12the way through flames, fires and war.
- 1:02:15And I think that's why the Phillies have the best chance of
- 1:02:17winning a championship then they've had since the time they
- 1:02:20won a championship. Yep, it's a great mixture of
- 1:02:22like a brotherhood type team and analytics type team where you
- 1:02:25have the on base and power. And somebody like Kyle Shorber
- 1:02:28is like the epitome of that. Like when you look at like
- 1:02:30modeling your type of game based on the power and the metrics of
- 1:02:33today's game. And he's a tremendous playoff
- 1:02:35player too, one of the best playoff hitters we've seen when
- 1:02:37he was with the Cubs, even when he was with Boston that one year
- 1:02:39too, when they went to the ALCS. And he's definitely going to
- 1:02:42make it very interesting with him and Otani.
- 1:02:44As far as the American League, I definitely a great job.
- 1:02:45Just MVP. Like Kyle Rally's had an
- 1:02:47unbelievable year. I'm not.
- 1:02:48And I'm, I'm, I'm sorry to cut you off.
- 1:02:50I, I want, I know a lot of people like Raleigh and I like
- 1:02:53him too. And he, he deserves it.
- 1:02:54I don't know if we'll ever see Raleigh have a season like this.
- 1:02:56And that's why a lot of people would like to see Raleigh.
- 1:02:58You can't take it away from this guy.
- 1:03:00I, it's, it's impossible. When you look at these numbers,
- 1:03:03they're ridiculous. They're uncomparable.
- 1:03:06I'm going to tell you this right now.
- 1:03:08Everybody was talking about Alan Judge's season last year, which
- 1:03:10was remarkable. This could be one of the best
- 1:03:13two seasons a Yankees ever had. And I'm not talking about RB is
- 1:03:18I'm talking about all around statistics from from top to
- 1:03:22bottom. It's ridiculous how good of a
- 1:03:25season this man had. It's, it's incredible,
- 1:03:27incredible. Yeah, to to put it in
- 1:03:29perspective, Aaron Judges career OPS is one point O28 color,
- 1:03:33Ali's OPS this year was 928. Like that shows the difference
- 1:03:36in that in that career career trajectory.
- 1:03:38And then Aaron Judges this year, like you're saying 1.144 OPS
- 1:03:41this year again and rally do being a catcher, doing a lot of
- 1:03:45things, working with a pitching staff, that's very good.
- 1:03:46It might be the deepest rotation when you look at Gilbert, Wu,
- 1:03:49etcetera, and he has to call the games, he has to be able to
- 1:03:52switch it like you're saying. But Judges numbers are just too
- 1:03:54much off the chart. He plays the field like you were
- 1:03:55saying. It's not like Otani where he's
- 1:03:57just DH ING or Schwarber that he plays the field.
- 1:04:00But does he really play the field type thing?
- 1:04:01He does everything amidst all that.
- 1:04:03Yeah, he missed some time, but he only missed like a couple
- 1:04:05weeks. Like that's not going to hinder
- 1:04:06anything sample size wise either.
- 1:04:07Judges easily the MVP. Yeah, this.
- 1:04:09This is a fun one. Or not fun for some people
- 1:04:14because some people think it's life or death when you Give your
- 1:04:17opinion. But it's for me judge is just
- 1:04:24because if there wasn't such a discrepancy in some of the
- 1:04:28numbers, then I would 100%. And I've gone back and forth
- 1:04:32with with people all the time and love like their point of
- 1:04:35views and and what have you. But when when you done it.
- 1:04:39And that's not saying that cat what he's done is is crazy like
- 1:04:43as a switch hitter in the year that he had, But based upon
- 1:04:46numbers wise, he's not even in the top ten of switch hitting
- 1:04:49like categorically as as a whole.
- 1:04:53Obviously he caught 159 games like there there's something to
- 1:04:57be said, but I don't know what categorically or what ABC plus
- 1:05:03minus negative to the second square root how that plays a
- 1:05:09part in in what he does because square.
- 1:05:12Hearts, did you just say? I don't know.
- 1:05:15Yeah, there's there's a, there's a thing for every freaking
- 1:05:18statistic anymore. There is F plus in the minus of
- 1:05:22the negative. Scientific notation of of the
- 1:05:26the the a power. Jabba, don't plus anyone's minus
- 1:05:30anytime soon here with this stuff.
- 1:05:32Yeah, I'll tell. I'll tell you.
- 1:05:35It's got to be. I wasn't done yet.
- 1:05:37Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were done.
- 1:05:40No, keep going, big fella. Lay it on us.
- 1:05:46I'm getting there, I'm getting there.
- 1:05:48No, I just think there are different award like people are
- 1:05:52downplaying like batting average and there's a batting title
- 1:05:56still, correct? Yes, Best hitter is the Hank
- 1:05:59Aaron Award. OK, we have all of these set out
- 1:06:02to play Most Valuable Player And I've this has been a topic of
- 1:06:05conversation as well with with numerous people is if you take
- 1:06:10him out of the lineup, are they still as good as they are?
- 1:06:12Are they the Most Valuable Player or they the best hitter?
- 1:06:18And where does where do those two change?
- 1:06:22And now it's some people like they're backtracking like a few
- 1:06:24years ago. It's like, hey, his batting
- 1:06:26average hit less homers. Well, now you have the same dude
- 1:06:30doing the same thing and that's not taking anything because his
- 1:06:33his season is going to go down as one of the greatest ever for
- 1:06:35a catcher. Let's let's just be honest.
- 1:06:37Like that's not taking anything away from.
- 1:06:40I mean, he's a catcher and he has more stolen bases than Aaron
- 1:06:42Judge. Let's let's, I mean, that's kind
- 1:06:44of interesting. That's just a fun fact to throw
- 1:06:45out there. And there was somebody on MLB
- 1:06:47Network. They were like talking about
- 1:06:48they didn't want him to clog up the bases.
- 1:06:50He's we don't want him to hit two 90s clog.
- 1:06:52Well, he actually has more stolen bases than Aaron Judge
- 1:06:55and he does it all. He doesn't switch hitting and he
- 1:06:59doesn't take time off. He's a platinum catcher, Patton
- 1:07:02gold Gov catcher. Like we're not talking about
- 1:07:05just some slappy behind the the dish.
- 1:07:07Like just let me call some pitches I rake.
- 1:07:09No, you've got to be able to be special to be Cal and he's been
- 1:07:13special and that's not taking anything.
- 1:07:16Does he lead that team 100%? Is Julio having a OK year?
- 1:07:21Did he start off terrible? Yes.
- 1:07:22Did Cal hold it down? And if you go back and look, the
- 1:07:26trajectory of projected home runs for Cal Rally, every month
- 1:07:30was the same. It statistically stayed the same
- 1:07:32throughout the entire season. And that was how efficient and
- 1:07:36how consistent he was. We know he's not going to hit 3
- 1:07:40something. That's just not who he is.
- 1:07:42But he became comfortable with himself because he signed a long
- 1:07:45term deal. And that does something for your
- 1:07:48psyche that become that puts you in a place where now, now this
- 1:07:51is home. I can be me, not to say he's
- 1:07:54going to put up 60 every year, but we're going to get a better
- 1:07:57version of him. But a better version of him is
- 1:08:00still not as good as Aaron Judge.
- 1:08:03And that's that's just what now if he's hitting 300 and
- 1:08:07everybody's like, if he hit 62, does that change your No, it's
- 1:08:12two more homers. That's not changing anything.
- 1:08:16If he would have hit 62 other than he got to.
- 1:08:18But what's it matter? 62 is 62.
- 1:08:21That's not the home run record. People are going to say it is,
- 1:08:23but it's not. So you can talk about steroids,
- 1:08:28you can talk about whatever, but 62 is 62.
- 1:08:32That's what it is. But what Judge has done in every
- 1:08:35category and continued to play and obviously you you talk about
- 1:08:40his elbow, everybody plays hurt. You want to talk about and you
- 1:08:43want to say, Oh yeah, he's playing through a blown elbow,
- 1:08:46Try sitting behind the dish and do that for 159 games.
- 1:08:51There's a blown elbow is easy. I pitched with a blown elbow for
- 1:08:55six weeks. I know what it's like.
- 1:08:57This man is behind the dish catching, catching, catching
- 1:09:00foul balls, foul going up, raking.
- 1:09:03So when you talk about injury, put that aside because Cal Judge
- 1:09:07doesn't understand what that is. And and Cal will never
- 1:09:09understand what Judge situation is either.
- 1:09:12But to take away what he's done behind the plate as far as
- 1:09:14calling the game, being a great catcher, not a serviceable
- 1:09:18catcher and going out and hitting what he did and and
- 1:09:22basically running that team. You can't you can't blink at it.
- 1:09:26But it's just so hard with the discrepancy in how vast those
- 1:09:30and we're not talking just Cal. We're talking about all of
- 1:09:33baseball, not just him. We're talking next closest and
- 1:09:39and that's that's just hard because now it's what this game
- 1:09:43has become is stats, stats, stats and MLB posted on X like
- 1:09:48literally his OPS, homers, RBI's didn't even talk about batting
- 1:09:53average and he just won the damn batting title.
- 1:09:55What are we doing here? Jabba, he did it and I would say
- 1:09:59he has the largest strike zone in all of baseball and he.
- 1:10:02Hit 331 smaller. Right.
- 1:10:05He's got to have the biggest strike zone and he should
- 1:10:07absolutely win this title. But in 1961, there was a
- 1:10:12situation with two Yankees with almost the exact same scenario.
- 1:10:16If you take a look at Rodger Maris when he had 61 versus
- 1:10:20Mickey Mantle, who got hurt a little bit late in the season
- 1:10:23and missed like 10 games. Like Judge, he won the batting
- 1:10:26title with 317 bat or three, 14317 batting average and had
- 1:10:31all the advanced stats the OPS Just like Judge.
- 1:10:33It's almost mirror image where Maris had more homers and RBIs
- 1:10:38but Mantle had better everything else.
- 1:10:41But who won the MVP that year? It was Roger Maris.
- 1:10:44Now if baseball is truly as analytical and stat savvy as you
- 1:10:49guys think, then Judge should win because those numbers say
- 1:10:53Judge was a better player by a decent amount.
- 1:10:56However, precedent is they're going to give it to the guy who
- 1:11:00hit 60 or more. I wonder if the 62 would have
- 1:11:04given it to Raleigh. I don't think he gets it at 60,
- 1:11:08but I think it's that exact same scenario as we saw in 1961 with
- 1:11:12Mantle and Maris, just different teams.
- 1:11:15Very interesting looking at those stats.
- 1:11:16Very interesting. Thank you to all the fans on X
- 1:11:19Instagram, YouTube, Java in the mouth, Worldwide Sports Radio
- 1:11:24network. We thank everybody following us
- 1:11:26on Spotify and Apple on the video and the audio section.
- 1:11:29We love you guys. Keep up, keep downloading us.
- 1:11:33Keep up all the good work. And thank you to the one and
- 1:11:36only Gremlin for sucking again this week.
- 1:11:39I've got my New Jersey. Screw the Gremlin, as he will be
- 1:11:44out of the NFL. That could be another
- 1:11:45prediction. I that's just my prediction.
- 1:11:47Yeah. You're just waiting for that one
- 1:11:48together. That's going to be a slam dunk.
- 1:11:51By the way, I I would love to hear Quentin what he has.
- 1:11:54We're bringing him up when he gets his first interception.
- 1:11:56He's not getting an interception this year.
- 1:11:57You could book that. He will not have an interception
- 1:12:00this year. He has what?
- 1:12:01How many games left? It's 1213 now. 13 games, not a
- 1:12:05chance in hell, that's all I'm. In or if he goes off against The
- 1:12:07Jets. By a chance or something, still
- 1:12:10not going to get an interception.
- 1:12:11Anyways, that's it for our show, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:12:13Thank you again. We'll be back on Wednesday.
- 1:12:16Who do we ask all? Right.
- 1:12:16So returning to the show at 8:45 is our friend Mr. Obi Muhali,
- 1:12:20former Falcons and Ravens fullback, All Pro fullback.
- 1:12:23I did mention because we didn't mention at the end of the
- 1:12:25interview. Last time Yum Yum we.
- 1:12:26Were potentially talking about doing a collaboration with our
- 1:12:29with Michael Turner, who's on his show as well.
- 1:12:30I asked him about that, so I'll see if he'll have have him as
- 1:12:32well. But we'll definitely.
- 1:12:34Have a Yeah, I love Ovie. Ovie knows his stuff.
- 1:12:37And Michael Turner, at one point, I remember him on who?
- 1:12:41Who? What college team did he play
- 1:12:43for? Speedy, Let's see if you.
- 1:12:44Know was it Indiana I believe. Think about it.
- 1:12:46Think again. Oh, was he FSU?
- 1:12:47What was he FSU? Your Seminoles?
- 1:12:49No. Yeah, I don't remember him in
- 1:12:51college, actually. Fish, you know.
- 1:12:54I just remember him being the best backup running back in the
- 1:12:57NFL for the Falcons and then eventually getting the starting.
- 1:13:00Job Jabba, you know, really good.
- 1:13:01Does anybody know? Northern Illinois.
- 1:13:04I just. Looked it up.
- 1:13:05So that's not fair. If I, if you ask me.
- 1:13:07Who do you got? Wake Forest.
- 1:13:10Yeah. I want to remember that, you
- 1:13:11know, You know, I I know this because I'm a big Tim Duncan
- 1:13:14fan. I'm Tim Duncan.
- 1:13:16Went to Wake Forest. So that's how I know.
- 1:13:19By the way, Michael Turner was a great player.
- 1:13:20He was. He was a great player.
- 1:13:22Four years he was. I wouldn't say he's elite, but
- 1:13:24he was really good player. Yeah.
- 1:13:27He was a good running back in the NFL.
- 1:13:29Anyways, that's it for our show. We'll see you on Wednesday.
- 1:13:32Goodnight. It is the Worldwide Sports Radio
- 1:13:35Network. I like anal.
