Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beacham.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: And I've got good news.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Those words from Acts 2 opened one of the greatest moments in the history of God's people.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: But before the rushing wind, before the tongues of fire, before Peter stood to preach to the crowd, there was a room filled with people who were waiting.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Jesus had risen from the dead for forty days.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: He had shown himself alive to his disciples.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Then before ascending into heaven, he gave them a command Tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until you be endued with power from on high.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: He did not tell them how many days they would wait.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: He did not tell them exactly what the moment would look like.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: He simply gave them a promise and asked them to trust him.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So they returned to Jerusalem.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Peter was there, John was there, James and Andrew were there.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Acts tells us that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was there also.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: The women, the brothers of Jesus and other disciples gathered with them.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: About one hundred and twenty believers were united in prayer and supplication.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Think about that room.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: They had seen Jesus crucified.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: They had seen the tomb that was sealed.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: They had known fear, confusion, and grief, but they had also seen the risen Christ.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Now they waited, not because they had no hope, but because they had his word.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: One day passed, then another.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Still they prayed.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: They did not scatter when nothing happened immediately.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: They did not decide that the promise was only symbolic.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: They remained together with one purpose and one expectation.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Jesus had said the promise of the Father would come, and that was enough.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Then came the morning of Pentecost.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Jerusalem was crowded with worshipers who had come from many nations for the feast.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Streets were busy, voices from distant lands could be heard throughout the city.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: But somewhere in Jerusalem those followers of Jesus were still gathered in one accord, and suddenly heaven interrupted the waiting.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: There came a sound from heaven as a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: The sound did not begin in the street.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: It came from heaven, it filled the entire house.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Then cloven tongues like fire appeared and rested upon each of them.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And Acts 2 and 4 declares, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Notice the words.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: It began with ordinary believers who believed the promise of Jesus, continued in prayer, and received power from on high.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Perhaps you have been waiting on God.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: You have prayed, but the answer has not yet come.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: You have held to a promise, but the room still seems quiet.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Pentecost reminds us that silence does not mean God has forgotten.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: The disciples could not see what was approaching, but heaven had already appointed the day.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: They remained faithful until the day was fully come, and when it came, God did more than visit the room.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: He filled every waiting believer with the Holy Ghost.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: But the sound from heaven would not remain inside that house.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Outside a crowd was beginning to gather.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Men from many nations heard something they could not explain.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Some were amazed, some were confused, and some began to mock.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow we will hear the question that spread through the crowd What meaneth this?
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: And we will hear Peter's answer.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: I hope the message today touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
