- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to get back
- 0:06to the testimony given by the securities captain to the
- 0:10OIG investigators. Question, and do you remember so you recall
- 0:14specifically talking with them? Do you? And this is I
- 0:18want to know aside from what they should have known,
- 0:21specific conversations with redacted. Answer. I can't remember about redacted.
- 0:27I believe it's internal. I came into the lieutenant's office
- 0:30and we spoke about it, so as a collective, the
- 0:32lieutenants were made aware. I can't say I remember that
- 0:36I would come into the lieutenants and we would talk
- 0:38about Epstein. So again, between the guidance that was put
- 0:42out through emails and the conversations that I would have
- 0:44had just encountering lieutenants. Yeah, but however, I can tell
- 0:47you for sure I had a conversation with redacted. Question
- 0:53and would have redacted made sure that those people working
- 0:55in the shoe knew this information? Answer? He would have
- 0:59as lieutenant in charge, Yes, question should have he made
- 1:04sure somebody likes somebody that's not in there. Although tovin O, well,
- 1:08I think that was her quarterly post or at least
- 1:10she was in there a lot of times leading up
- 1:12to it, so should have he made sure that she
- 1:17he gets cut off by the guard Yeah, because he
- 1:19worked evening watch Michael Thomas. Probably not, but by him
- 1:25working in the unit, he would know. I mean, you
- 1:29would say, okay, if he's working on evening watch or
- 1:32morning watch. There was no need to move inmates. There
- 1:34were no showers that were taking place, There were no hearings,
- 1:38no medical nothing that we had to open up a
- 1:40cell door for those inmates. Question okay answer, So most
- 1:45of those inmates was done on day watch. There was
- 1:47no reason for them to move these guys. Question okay, answer,
- 1:51you understand what I'm saying. Question sure. And then as
- 1:54far as the conversations with redacted, answer was one of
- 1:58the lieutenants. As far as again speaking to as lieutenants
- 2:01as a forum, you know, hey, got to make sure
- 2:04that you guys are doing it, you know like that.
- 2:06But I know for a fact, the only person that
- 2:08I spoke to that I pulled in my office was
- 2:11Shoe OIC was the Shoe lieutenant. Because they're in charge
- 2:15of the unit. So I disseminate the information and the
- 2:19guidance out to him, and he's supposed to take that
- 2:21guidance and push it forward. Question for the unit. So
- 2:25he's in charge of the unit. You went to the
- 2:27guy in charge of the unit and said, hey, you're
- 2:29in charge of the unit. Make sure he's got to
- 2:31sell mate at all times. Answer yes, question and he
- 2:35then is supposed to take that and anybody that works
- 2:38within his unit should know answered yeah. Question okay. What
- 2:43about these lieutenants though, especially the ones that are acting
- 2:46as like ops lieutenants and activities lieutenants, people like redacted durant.
- 2:51I think redacted redacted should have they known during these ships,
- 2:55specifically on the ninth and tenth should have they known
- 2:58that epstein was required? I have a cellmate answer, I
- 3:01believe so. Question okay, But like again, I would have
- 3:06to go back through my emails, you know, because a
- 3:08lot of the communication that me and the lieutenants had
- 3:11were through email, because you can't catch them all in
- 3:13one shift, you know, catch them passing and coming. So
- 3:16I would put out guidance that way. Question. But as
- 3:19far as you said that everyone knew he had an
- 3:21orange card, that he had high visibility inmate and therefore
- 3:25he was required to have a cell mate, So should
- 3:27have they had known through that? Answer? Yeah? Question, and
- 3:31is there any excuse for any of them to say
- 3:33I didn't know? Answer? I'm not going to put that
- 3:36on the lieutenant. You know, I'm not going to do that.
- 3:39I'm not going to be the guy to say whatever, whatever,
- 3:42because I'm going to tell you what, sir, To be
- 3:44real with you, it was so much going on through
- 3:46that timeframe that I don't want to put my statement
- 3:48to something like that that could detrimentally harm one of
- 3:51these lieutenants. I'm not going to say that I talked
- 3:53to redacted on this day. I'm just not going to
- 3:56do that question. I'm not saying about speaking. I'm saying
- 4:01just the fact that there was en And again you're
- 4:03saying that you don't recall specific conversations about the cellmate
- 4:07requirements aside from redacted. But the fact that if there
- 4:11was an Orange card, is that something that just is
- 4:16common knowledge? If someone has an Orange card, a lieutenant
- 4:19should know that he's got an Orange card, he needs
- 4:22a cellmate? Answer? Right? But again, also it was high
- 4:25visibility guys, what do you call that? Ten South? The
- 4:31one inmate answer? That one occupancy. So with the guidance
- 4:35I had put out, I got to give you that email.
- 4:38Question okay. Answer that email was saying that, hey, these
- 4:42guys with the Orange cards, you need to ensure high
- 4:44visibility vigilance. Question. So all right, so he gets cut
- 4:49off by the guard. Ensure that these guys you know,
- 4:52are alive and all of this, you know, report any
- 4:55you know, I went into detail with all of that question. Okay,
- 4:59so maybe not if it's an Orange card. It doesn't
- 5:01necessarily mean then that they require a cell mate. They
- 5:05just require answer hire or hire a supervision question okay,
- 5:10So you just need to know what they're doing at
- 5:14all times and make sure that they're okay, answer yeah,
- 5:17question all right, So in this instance it wouldn't be
- 5:20necessarily cell mate. It would be everybody knows to keep
- 5:23an eye on Epstein, make sure that he's all right.
- 5:26So is the only one that you can specifically recall?
- 5:29And again what you said question, yeah, And then again
- 5:33when I went on evening shift morning watch those shifts
- 5:37when I had those teams together, Yeah, I would talk
- 5:39about vigilance after doing thirty minute rounds, make sure this
- 5:43is done, making sure that is done making sure this guy.
- 5:46You know, that's what I did, because that's what mister
- 5:49redacted wanted, So I did it. Question all right? And
- 5:53then again just to make sure that I'm not misunderstanding you.
- 5:56You said you talked to or redacted specifically about it,
- 5:59But when you did visit the Shoe, not only were
- 6:02you telling them to keep high visibility on Epstein, were
- 6:05you also telling them the people that you did interact with,
- 6:08that he needed to have a cell mate. Answer? Yes,
- 6:11question okay, on Friday August ninth or sorry, when's the
- 6:15last time you can recall that you had a conversation
- 6:19with Shoe staff? Answer? I can't remember, sir, I don't remember, because,
- 6:24like I said, that guidance came out between the time
- 6:27of him being upon his release from Suicide Watch from
- 6:30the last time, so that time during the time that
- 6:33we was doing the vetting for the cell mate. So
- 6:36was you know, it was a short period of time
- 6:38that this guidance and these conversations took place. And then
- 6:42the reinforcement was when we would walk through the unit
- 6:45and just do rounds and then I'm like, hey, this
- 6:48is high visibility guy. Why is this guy got trays
- 6:51in his cell, extra trays in his cell. Why is
- 6:53this guy got this? So then, of course, you know
- 6:56a lot of people at MCC they didn't like me
- 6:59because I was trying to hold people accountable. But I
- 7:02didn't always write people up. That's how I did. I
- 7:06came up like that, I'm trying to help you. People
- 7:09thought me trying to just talk to them about correctional
- 7:11service or trying giving them little you know, helping them out,
- 7:14talking to them. You know that I was trying to
- 7:17be the know all, be all, be that guy. You know,
- 7:20you know you're not sociable, but now you're down here
- 7:22telling us what to do. You're not one of those.
- 7:26That's the way it felt like. So like again, I
- 7:28can give you the playbook to success, but if you
- 7:30don't read it, it's just words. It's just words. And
- 7:34then I had a lot of issues with the lieutenants.
- 7:36You know, lieutenants you know, were self serving. Even though
- 7:39in my previous statement I would never say anything statements
- 7:42to hurt them, I'm not doing that. But what I
- 7:45will tell you was the relationship between me and the
- 7:48lieutenant Corps was not good. So again, as we move
- 7:51forward through today, you know, the statements that I make
- 7:53is not to try to put blame or try to
- 7:55hurt anybody. The only thing I'm doing is telling you
- 7:58that when the war gave me direction, he said he
- 8:02wanted X Y and Z and x y and Z.
- 8:05Not only did I talk to staff, I also reinforced
- 8:08it by putting out emails because I know I can't
- 8:10catch everybody, and I know that staff is going to
- 8:13blow you off. I mean, like, yeah, whatever, I'm glad
- 8:16he's out the unit. Let's go ahead and go back
- 8:18to whatever we was doing. It is what it is.
- 8:22Question sure, and just so you know, just to give
- 8:25you a little bit of peace of mind, we're asking
- 8:27you the questions directly. You're not playing blame on anybody.
- 8:31So if we ask you if they were responsible for
- 8:34something that's not on you answer oh, okay, Well I
- 8:38just wanted to because I didn't understand that question. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:43answer because like I said, I'm not here. I mean,
- 8:46he gets cut off by the investigator. I mean, we
- 8:50might say who's responsible or did they drop the ball,
- 8:52But that's just asking you a direct question, not you
- 8:55coming to us saying it was this guy's fault. You know,
- 8:58we're specifically asking you, so just you know. Answer, that's
- 9:03what I didn't understand, and that's not what I mean.
- 9:06I'm not here for that. I'm just here. He gets
- 9:09cut off by the investigator. I mean, we do have
- 9:11to figure out who did drop the ball here? Answer yeah, question,
- 9:18but that's not You're not coming to us, We're coming
- 9:21to you. Answer right, I understand. Question. So on Friday,
- 9:25August ninth, twenty nineteen, Lieutenant redacted was on leave, and
- 9:29thus there was no dedicated lieutenant assigned to the shoe.
- 9:33Answer that is correct. Question. In this event, the operations Lieutenant,
- 9:37Lieutenant redacted had oversight that day and took over the
- 9:41responsibilities of the shoe lieutenant. So what time did you
- 9:45can you look at that on August ninth? What time
- 9:48that he worked on? Answer the periods that this is Friday? Right?
- 9:52Question correct August ninth answer I got. So basically, I
- 9:57have Redacted was not there. He was error on that Saturday,
- 10:01which was evening. Watch on that Saturday. Question, but he
- 10:04did not work four pm to midnight. Answer? He worked
- 10:07four pm to midnight on that Saturday. The August tenth question, Okay,
- 10:11so you can speak, do you know something different answer. No, No,
- 10:15I was just clarifying question. Oop. Sorry, can I see
- 10:18the August ninth answer? So who was working on August ninth? Well,
- 10:24it appears I think you got redacted question all right?
- 10:30So redacted would have been the ops lieutenant answer right question, well, redacted,
- 10:35and then underneath them, the Activities lieutenant would have been
- 10:38durant and then redacted answer right question correct? All right?
- 10:44All right, So they must have got this wrong somehow,
- 10:46so it said, so this is not accurate when it
- 10:49says that in this report, in this event, the operations
- 10:52lieutenant Lieutenant redacted had oversight that day and took responsibility
- 10:56for the shoe who actually had oversight? Redacted? Was out? Answer?
- 11:02That would have been the day watch operations lieutenant question?
- 11:05And who was that answer? The day Watch operations lieutenant
- 11:08for August ninth would have been, and it appears it
- 11:11was redacted questions, so redacted would have been responsible answer
- 11:16right question? And is it your understanding that redacted knew
- 11:21that he needed to sellmate answer? I believe. So. All right, folks,
- 11:25we're gonna wrap up right here, and in the next
- 11:27episode dealing with the topic, we're gonna pick up where
- 11:29we left off. All the information that goes with this
- 11:32episode can be found in the description box.
