- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Kate Dresden, and welcome to Kate's Devotional Podcast.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I drop my podcast every Wednesday.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: It's always a five-minute or less devotional to bring you encouragement as we try
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: to live our lives according to the Bible.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: So glad you're here.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Do you guys ever wish that you could do the things you used to do?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Just the other day, I saw a picture of myself when I was 14.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I was a cheerleader in high school.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I had so much energy.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I could do cartwheels and cheer for hours on end without even getting tired.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So it got me to thinking how much my body has changed over the years as I've gotten older.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: when I was in college,
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I could stay up all night and I didn't have to spend the next three days recovering.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Or even in my 30s.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I could carry heavy boxes when we were moving.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: But I gotta say, those days are long gone.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I can't do any of that anymore.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: That's normal.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It's the natural order of things.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: There's a verse that talks about it in 2 Corinthians 4.16,
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: and I'm going to read out of the New King James Version.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: It says, Just like the Bible says, our bodies are decaying.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: There's no doubt about it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Aging takes a toll on us.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: In fact, there are new people every day who are starting to face new medical issues.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: It's just the way that it is.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But the part to focus on is that phrase, our inner man is being renewed day by day.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So while our outer bodies are weakening,
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: it's our inner hearts that are growing stronger and maturing in the Lord.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: So let me read the next couple of verses in 1 Corinthians 4, because it's encouraging to hear this.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: It says,
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: for momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: beyond all comparison.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: You know, going through physical afflictions is normal because we live in a fallen world.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And while taking care of our bodies is important, what's going on in our hearts is even more important.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: having dealt with chronic illness for over 30 years,
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I can testify to how God teaches us valuable lessons through our health issues.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And whether you're facing problems,
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: health or otherwise,
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: the Bible says our afflictions are minor when we see them through the lens of eternity.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: It's easy to focus on our trials because they're right in front of us 24-7.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And don't forget our bodies may fail us here on earth, but they're going to be perfect in heaven.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And I love the verse Psalm 73 26.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: It says my flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: So if you're discouraged over your health today, I want to lift your spirits.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Our physical strength isn't nearly as important as the type of strength God provides.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: He gives us things we can't see like love, salvation, forgiveness.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: He's always there.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So if you're discouraged about some health problem you have or the fact that you
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: can't do as much as you'd like,
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: there's hope because our bodies aren't always going to be like this.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: We're going to get perfect ones in heaven and they're going to last forever.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Okay, guys, keep trusting in Jesus because I'm going to be doing the same.
