- 0:51what is going on everybody
- 0:53I noticed that um dave in
- 0:55his week in reviews now is
- 0:57turning and throwing a dart
- 0:58at a dartboard and
- 0:59have a dartboard like right
- 1:01there so I figured what the
- 1:03heck right totally missed
- 1:07everything and just put the
- 1:08dart right in the wall so
- 1:10there we go um that did not
- 1:14go well um but anyway I
- 1:16tried it maybe I'll try
- 1:18again tomorrow and
- 1:19hopefully I will hit the
- 1:20the dartboard itself or
- 1:23even the cork board around
- 1:24the dartboard because I
- 1:25missed all of that wow
- 1:29anyway uh cat is in the chat
- 1:34what's up lex what's going
- 1:36on jody jay birch um cat
- 1:41next catching feelings
- 1:43episode is going to be
- 1:43crazy friday night antics
- 1:46to report when is catching
- 1:49feelings not crazy that's
- 1:53that's what I gotta say
- 1:55Um, so yeah,
- 1:57so cool to be with you guys today.
- 1:59Um,
- 1:59I kind of like I had nothing and now
- 2:02all of a sudden I have a lot.
- 2:04Uh, the first thing I'm going to say is,
- 2:06man, this weekend, it was really, really,
- 2:09um, a nice weekend here in Ohio.
- 2:13And I got a lot of yard work done.
- 2:15We actually had to mow our
- 2:16grass for the first time, uh, this year.
- 2:20And I had a lot of leaves from the winter.
- 2:22And so I was trying to get
- 2:24them up off the lawn and I
- 2:26was dumping them into our
- 2:28waste barrel and all that stuff came up.
- 2:32My allergies were crazy.
- 2:34So Saturday night I took a
- 2:35break and I ended up
- 2:37watching A Complete Unknown,
- 2:39the Timothee Chalamet movie
- 2:41about Bob Dylan.
- 2:43And I just wanted to give
- 2:44you my thoughts on the movie.
- 2:47was nominated for an academy
- 2:48award timothy chalamet was
- 2:50nominated um as well as uh
- 2:53some of the cast ed norton
- 2:56stuff like that so um
- 2:58anyway uh julie and I
- 3:01watched the movie I I would
- 3:03give it an a I thought it
- 3:04was really well done um it
- 3:06was really artistically
- 3:07done uh the actors were
- 3:09amazing throughout the the movie um
- 3:14The person who played Joan
- 3:15Baez did a great job.
- 3:18She's actually in Top Gun
- 3:19Maverick as the female pilot in Top Gun.
- 3:24Her and Timothee Chalamet
- 3:25reportedly did all the
- 3:26singing in the movie,
- 3:28which was really cool.
- 3:31And I thought that...
- 3:34I thought it was really, really good.
- 3:37What I will tell you is,
- 3:39and I actually saw another
- 3:40critic say this,
- 3:41that it's really a tribute
- 3:43to Bob Dylan music because
- 3:44they let the songs play
- 3:46pretty long throughout the movie,
- 3:48unlike other movies where
- 3:49you just get like a snippet of it.
- 3:54And so if you like the Bob
- 3:55Dylan music and you like what he's done,
- 3:57I think it's,
- 3:58you'll really enjoy the movie.
- 3:59And it kind of really just
- 4:01highlights a small section of his career,
- 4:04uh,
- 4:04from the time he gets to New York to
- 4:07the time he goes electric, uh,
- 4:09which is probably about a
- 4:10three and a half, four year timeframe.
- 4:13Uh,
- 4:14At the end of the movie,
- 4:15I don't think I know any
- 4:16more about Bob Dylan, the man.
- 4:18But I know a lot about his
- 4:20music and his inspirations
- 4:23and what he was trying to accomplish.
- 4:26And I thought that was...
- 4:29thought that was good if
- 4:30you're looking for
- 4:31something where you you
- 4:32think you're gonna get a
- 4:33backstory of bob dylan
- 4:35that's probably not for you
- 4:37um but it is if you like
- 4:39his music and you want to
- 4:40see what his inspirations
- 4:41were and what he was trying
- 4:42to accomplish um it was
- 4:45really good and I would say
- 4:47the acting across the board
- 4:48was phenomenal um so I
- 4:51really enjoyed that
- 4:55um lex asked if anybody's
- 4:57seen the black mirror is
- 4:59that the demi moore movie
- 5:01lex I I've heard that it's
- 5:04it's very interesting um
- 5:06and I've I've wanted to
- 5:07check it out but I have not seen it yet
- 5:12jody says a complete unknown
- 5:13was great uh there's shea
- 5:16coming in with a happy
- 5:17monday um and jay birch
- 5:19would know if it was more
- 5:20oscar worthy than anora in
- 5:22my opinion it was way
- 5:24better than anora um
- 5:28But again,
- 5:29I think it depends on what
- 5:30you're looking for.
- 5:32If you're looking for a
- 5:33biopic about the man,
- 5:34you're probably not going
- 5:35to come out satisfied
- 5:37because they don't really talk about him,
- 5:40the person.
- 5:43But they do talk about his
- 5:45influences and meeting
- 5:47Woody Guthrie and Pete
- 5:49Seeger and how he kind of
- 5:51got pigeonholed in the folk
- 5:52scene and then how he tried
- 5:54to kind of bust out of that.
- 5:56Yeah.
- 6:00Lex says, no, it's a Netflix series,
- 6:02British Twilight Zone.
- 6:03I'm like, hmm.
- 6:05I may check that out.
- 6:06I'm kind of caught up on some things,
- 6:08so maybe I'll have to check that out.
- 6:13Train to Live says the movie
- 6:14G-T-G-T-O on Prime was pretty good.
- 6:17Not award-worthy.
- 6:18Okay.
- 6:19We also watched, speaking of...
- 6:22good, not award worthy,
- 6:23I would say The Life List.
- 6:27My wife and I watched that
- 6:28yesterday afternoon.
- 6:30Again, after doing some yard work,
- 6:31we came in and cooled off with that.
- 6:34Very cute movie.
- 6:36I think it was a little long
- 6:38for what it was.
- 6:41And
- 6:44It could have been cut down,
- 6:46but I loved the premise behind it.
- 6:49I loved the storyline.
- 6:50I thought Connie Britton was
- 6:52really good in it.
- 6:54And it's on Netflix.
- 6:55It's a Netflix original
- 6:57called The Life List.
- 6:58And it's really... The
- 7:00premise behind it is that...
- 7:05girl has given up on her
- 7:06dreams and her mother finds
- 7:08a way to force her to go
- 7:11back and look at a list she
- 7:12made when she was thirteen
- 7:13and go back after her
- 7:15dreams and I think it's
- 7:17it's a really good
- 7:20entertaining movie again
- 7:22not award-worthy in my
- 7:23opinion but it was a good
- 7:26watch a good watch for sure
- 7:34lex's I did not like that
- 7:35movie it was a bit much
- 7:37yeah I think they went on
- 7:38too long in a lot of this
- 7:40the situations um I think
- 7:42yeah I think they could
- 7:46have made it more concise
- 7:48uh and a little bit tighter
- 7:49but um but I was I was
- 7:52really tired after two days
- 7:53of yard work and lack of
- 7:55sleep on sunday night so I
- 7:57was just looking for
- 7:57something to entertain me
- 7:59and it did enough there for that
- 8:04was cute not great is what I
- 8:06would put that in as my
- 8:10assessment of the movie so
- 8:14um before I get into a
- 8:17little bit of crossfit
- 8:17stuff did you guys realize
- 8:19that taxes are due tomorrow
- 8:21because I totally brain
- 8:24farted on that um I for
- 8:28some reason thought they
- 8:29were due next month
- 8:31Um,
- 8:32I think with everything going on with
- 8:33my mom and her stroke and
- 8:34all that kind of stuff,
- 8:36I totally brain farted and
- 8:39have forgotten that I need to do taxes.
- 8:43Uh,
- 8:43so I got up early this morning before
- 8:45work and I knocked out
- 8:46about a fourth of my taxes.
- 8:49I'm going to have to do
- 8:50another chunk tonight.
- 8:51Hopefully I can get through it all.
- 8:54Um,
- 8:55I'm to the business expenses
- 8:57of the podcast.
- 8:58And once I get that done,
- 9:02then it should be smooth
- 9:04sailing the rest of the way.
- 9:05But yeah,
- 9:08it's getting all the receipts and
- 9:10everything from the year
- 9:11into TurboTax so I can get
- 9:13those off and not be late on my filing.
- 9:16But dang, completely,
- 9:19completely forgot about it.
- 9:21I cannot believe I did that.
- 9:25Lex,
- 9:26I really was not trying to wait till
- 9:27the last day this year.
- 9:29I was trying.
- 9:30I thought I had a month.
- 9:31I was actually going to do
- 9:32them next weekend over
- 9:35Easter when I had some time downtime.
- 9:39And I don't know why I
- 9:40thought May fifteenth with
- 9:43Corey moving to Montana and my mom.
- 9:45I just like it just totally
- 9:47escaped my brain.
- 9:49And now I'm in now I'm in full panic mode.
- 9:55So last thing I was going to say is,
- 9:58you know,
- 9:58last week I talked about my game
- 10:00show addiction.
- 10:01I saw a little article about
- 10:03a woman who won a car on Price is Right,
- 10:06and she walked people
- 10:07through the process of what
- 10:08happens when you win a car
- 10:09on the Price is Right.
- 10:11And something that I kind of
- 10:13guessed happened,
- 10:14but I didn't know what happened,
- 10:16is that when you win a car
- 10:20on the Price is Right, you get a choice.
- 10:21You get to either take the car you won,
- 10:23right, that car,
- 10:25or they will give you a
- 10:27voucher to go to the
- 10:29dealership that donated the car.
- 10:32And then you can pick any
- 10:33car of equal value or use
- 10:36that voucher to pay for a
- 10:38majority of the car or whatever.
- 10:41And, um, and you get to go do that.
- 10:44And this woman did that.
- 10:45She had won like a Nissan on
- 10:47the show and went and
- 10:49actually bought a Toyota
- 10:50RAV four with the voucher
- 10:52that the prices right gave you.
- 10:54And I just thought that was
- 10:54interesting that you
- 10:55actually do get to pick
- 10:57kind of what you want after the fact,
- 10:59if you choose to just take, um, uh,
- 11:06if you get to take the
- 11:07voucher instead of the actual car.
- 11:10But it's your choice at that
- 11:11moment in time.
- 11:17Speaking of taxes,
- 11:20I've known about Tax Day for months,
- 11:22still refuse to deal with it.
- 11:25So apparently Jody is filing an extension.
- 11:31My tax lady said winning
- 11:32money at the games was
- 11:33still an overall loss.
- 11:36I am sure that it was, Denise.
- 11:39I'm sure that it was.
- 11:42You age group athletes do a
- 11:44lot of things out of love of the game.
- 11:46That is for sure.
- 11:50So speaking of love of the game,
- 11:56I was listening to Wilson
- 11:58Park this morning.
- 11:59on the savant podcast.
- 12:01And I was amazed at all the
- 12:03things that they're going
- 12:04to offer at the syndicate
- 12:05crown this year to try to
- 12:08make it more entertaining.
- 12:11and I'm just gonna pull up
- 12:12their instagram right now
- 12:15um because I love what they
- 12:17are doing they're trying to
- 12:18find um fun things for
- 12:21people to do in and around
- 12:23uh the in-person qualifying
- 12:25event so they're having uh
- 12:27teams uh the teams will go on
- 12:31Saturday and Sunday, two events each day.
- 12:35Wilson says that they are
- 12:36trying to schedule them as
- 12:37much as possible,
- 12:38that they do not conflict
- 12:40with any of the elite individual events.
- 12:43And if you sign up with your
- 12:46team and there's a couple spots left,
- 12:48you will actually get a
- 12:49free ticket to the Syndicate Crown.
- 12:54So they actually have the
- 12:55events already posted.
- 12:58There's the four events that
- 13:00will happen in the pairs event.
- 13:03So if you're so inclined,
- 13:05you can come compete and
- 13:06then you get a free ticket
- 13:08to the Syndicate Crown.
- 13:10I think that they've done
- 13:11something similar to that in the past.
- 13:13I'm sure people have heard
- 13:14that they're doing a kill
- 13:16taylor live um at the event
- 13:19what I didn't know is uh
- 13:21taylor and nine other
- 13:22athletes who through the
- 13:26kill taylor program got
- 13:27selected will compete live
- 13:30on the floor uh with one of
- 13:32the workouts from the syndicate crown
- 13:35when they are done then the
- 13:36elite athletes will take
- 13:37the floor any athlete that
- 13:39beats taylor either in that
- 13:42initial heat or the elite
- 13:43athletes in the next three
- 13:45heats will win I think
- 13:47wilson said five hundred
- 13:49dollars a piece um that's
- 13:52pretty amazing so even the
- 13:54elite athletes if they beat
- 13:56taylor while they are
- 13:57competing will win money uh
- 14:00in that kill taylor
- 14:03So then in addition to that,
- 14:05they announced this,
- 14:07which is the J Y barbell challenge.
- 14:10And they're doing the same
- 14:11thing with John Young on heavy Isabel.
- 14:16John Young will take the
- 14:17competition floor with nine
- 14:18other athletes.
- 14:20They will do heavy Isabel.
- 14:22And then the elite athletes
- 14:23will follow immediately after, um,
- 14:26doing the exact same workout.
- 14:31And so, one,
- 14:34you get to see how regular Joes do it,
- 14:37and then the elite athletes.
- 14:39They did not say anything
- 14:40about this having prize
- 14:42money associated with it.
- 14:46But we'll see what happens
- 14:47when it gets time for event time.
- 14:49But if you do sign up to be
- 14:51one of the other athletes...
- 14:54that take on heavy Isabel with John,
- 14:56you actually will get like
- 14:57a free t-shirt and he is
- 14:59going to do weightlifting
- 15:01clinics as well with the participants.
- 15:06So pretty cool there.
- 15:20And Wilson is one of the
- 15:21nicest guys in sport.
- 15:24So I always like to support
- 15:25him and the syndicate crown.
- 15:27They do a great job.
- 15:31They really tried to put in
- 15:33the extra effort to make it
- 15:34like an overall event.
- 15:38And I've said to people a long time,
- 15:39my favorite time of the
- 15:41season is the semifinal
- 15:43season before we got to
- 15:45this year and whatever this
- 15:46is going to be called now.
- 15:49semifinals are so so um
- 15:53pressure filled because
- 15:54people are trying to get
- 15:55their ticket to the games
- 15:57that I think it's more
- 15:58exciting than the actual
- 16:00games themselves to go watch
- 16:03And I said that a lot last year.
- 16:05And last year at the Syndicate crowd,
- 16:06I was stopped by people who
- 16:07had listened to the show and said,
- 16:09you know what,
- 16:10we decided to come and we
- 16:11realized you are right.
- 16:13It is so much more fun to
- 16:14hang out at a semifinal
- 16:16event than it is to go to the games.
- 16:19They had done both and they
- 16:21completely agreed.
- 16:24I just think it's more intimate.
- 16:26You're closer to the floor.
- 16:29The athletes are just walking around.
- 16:31You have kind of more access
- 16:33to everything.
- 16:35Vendor Village is mostly smaller,
- 16:38but easy to get around.
- 16:40Usually there's food trucks.
- 16:44So it should be a fun time
- 16:46if you decide to go to the
- 16:47Syndicate Crown or TFX or
- 16:49any of the semifinals that
- 16:51are out there and available.
- 16:58What I love about Wilson is
- 17:00I've met him a few times.
- 17:01He's a great dude.
- 17:03Anytime I text him, he responds within ten,
- 17:08fifteen minutes.
- 17:10I get stuff back from him
- 17:11almost immediately.
- 17:14Shay asked if I'm going.
- 17:16That is the plan.
- 17:19My wife will be about four weeks post-op.
- 17:22So if she is up and able to
- 17:23move around on her own,
- 17:26I will be going to the Syndicate Crown.
- 17:31So...
- 17:32That is the only thing that
- 17:35is dependent on my
- 17:36attendance at Syndicate.
- 17:37I always like to throw my
- 17:38support behind them.
- 17:39They're just a good bunch of
- 17:41guys and girls,
- 17:43and I always have a good time there.
- 17:45And I think it's a really
- 17:46cool venue for CrossFit
- 17:48because the seats are
- 17:49elevated probably twelve
- 17:51feet off the floor.
- 17:53So everybody gets a good
- 17:55seat kind of looking down on the floor.
- 17:59So yeah, it's a great little event.
- 18:04And Knoxville is a six-hour drive for me.
- 18:08So I can do that in a weekend, no problem.
- 18:16So it should be a good time.
- 18:21So there is that.
- 18:24I also like the fact that Syndicate is...
- 18:28has the rule that if you
- 18:29qualify for the games you
- 18:30are out of their event and
- 18:33it'll make it a much more
- 18:34seamless um event that you can cheer for
- 18:39the athletes know that if
- 18:40they make the podium or
- 18:41they make the top two,
- 18:43they are going to the games.
- 18:44It's not going to be one of
- 18:45these if-then-else statements.
- 18:47It is going to be just, hey,
- 18:49they finished top two,
- 18:50they're going to the games.
- 18:52And I really like that,
- 18:53that they're giving those
- 18:55opportunities to the people
- 18:57who really need it at that
- 18:59point in time in the season.
- 19:06I also wanted to...
- 19:10finish up a little bit about
- 19:12what we talked about last
- 19:13night on the show.
- 19:14And then we got a really
- 19:15in-depth conversation.
- 19:17Denise would called in and
- 19:18was a part of it.
- 19:20And that was what happened
- 19:21at Mayhem with the judging
- 19:24and the expired judging certificates.
- 19:29What I've kind of learned in
- 19:30the process in the last
- 19:33twelve hours or so is that
- 19:36one of the main reasons
- 19:37that is so many is it was a
- 19:40head judge that did not
- 19:42have the proper credentials.
- 19:44And because that head judge didn't,
- 19:46then everybody in that heat
- 19:48uh didn't have a credential
- 19:50judge as a head judge so
- 19:54that's why the numbers are
- 19:55so big because it wasn't
- 19:57just um direct judges um
- 20:03right there with the athlete
- 20:04counting the reps and
- 20:06judging the reps themselves,
- 20:08that it was a head judge,
- 20:11especially in the one person's case,
- 20:15he was saying that their
- 20:16whole heat got zeroed out
- 20:18because the head judge was
- 20:20not credentialed.
- 20:24Again,
- 20:25I think that the AFJ is trying to do
- 20:27a good thing.
- 20:29I think that they can take a
- 20:31lot off of a competition
- 20:33director's plate by
- 20:39supplying them with judges
- 20:40because getting judges is so hard.
- 20:44I know that when I have been
- 20:47at events and Kat was the
- 20:49competition director,
- 20:50getting judges is not easy.
- 20:52So when you have an
- 20:53organization that's willing
- 20:54to come in for a fee and
- 20:56supply those judges,
- 20:58that makes life so much easier.
- 21:00But you can't keep making
- 21:02these missteps and costing
- 21:05people trips to the games
- 21:07and expect to be that for
- 21:08people moving forward.
- 21:13So, again...
- 21:18I am friends with a lot of
- 21:19these people that are
- 21:21members of the AFJ because
- 21:23I've judged with them in different events,
- 21:25dating all the way back to
- 21:27twenty eighteen.
- 21:29And I like them as people.
- 21:31And I think what they are
- 21:33doing is a good thing.
- 21:35They just can't make these
- 21:36mistakes anymore.
- 21:39They just can't.
- 21:45Denise says,
- 21:46I bet that head judge feels like crap.
- 21:47No way would anyone want to
- 21:49have that happen?
- 21:52My thing is, you know, you know,
- 21:54when your credentials are expired,
- 21:57I know mine go the end of this year.
- 22:01My certification expires in
- 22:03December of twenty twenty five.
- 22:06I've had my L one for it'll
- 22:08be ten years and.
- 22:12at the end of this year,
- 22:13and I know that it expires.
- 22:16CrossFit does not let you forget.
- 22:18You get reminders that, hey,
- 22:20do you want to renew?
- 22:21Hey, do you want to renew?
- 22:23And if you are part of an
- 22:24organization trying to
- 22:25build themselves up to be
- 22:28the elite judges of the space,
- 22:31and you are a head judge,
- 22:34that's just so negligent.
- 22:36You knew.
- 22:38You knew.
- 22:38You had to know.
- 22:39You had to know.
- 22:43You had to know.
- 22:43That's all I got to say.
- 22:46You had to know.
- 22:49There's no excuse there.
- 22:55And the fact that you were a
- 22:56head judge and if you're
- 23:00running a heat of ten
- 23:02people and you've just
- 23:05basically disqualified ten
- 23:06people because you didn't
- 23:10go renew your thing.
- 23:15I mean, come on.
- 23:19I'm sorry.
- 23:23Denise says, I'm new to the L-I process.
- 23:26You get your L-I,
- 23:28you have it for five years,
- 23:31and when you're in that
- 23:34final year of your L-I,
- 23:36you get reminders from CrossFit saying,
- 23:39hey, your L-I is about to expire.
- 23:41Would you like to renew it?
- 23:42Would you like to go for your L-II?
- 23:45And they really do like a
- 23:46big marketing push at
- 23:47trying to push you up to
- 23:49the L-two or give you the
- 23:52option to do the L-one again.
- 23:56But especially if you're a judge,
- 23:58like to be able to judge at the games,
- 24:00you have to have your L-one.
- 24:02To be able to judge at a CrossFit event,
- 24:05I think you have to have your L-one.
- 24:08At semifinals,
- 24:08definitely in the past you
- 24:10had to have it.
- 24:12Now these off season things
- 24:14that varies from
- 24:16competition to competition,
- 24:17but the L one is in an essential piece.
- 24:20If you want to be a high
- 24:21level judge in the space,
- 24:26Denise asks if the CEUs help you renew.
- 24:29They do not help at the lower levels.
- 24:30The CEUs are for a CrossFit
- 24:32level three CrossFit level four.
- 24:36Now they're the CEUs help
- 24:38you maintain your your
- 24:41credential but at level
- 24:43ones and level twos the
- 24:44CEUs do not extend your your time.
- 24:54So.
- 24:55um.
- 24:58And I actually thought that
- 24:59Denise made a great point
- 25:00last night that we only had
- 25:02about two-thirds of the
- 25:04people actually pay to play
- 25:06at the semifinal level in the age groups.
- 25:09And many of those people may
- 25:11have done that because they
- 25:13couldn't get the judges
- 25:14they needed to get.
- 25:16And then when CrossFit goes
- 25:17ahead and makes an
- 25:18exception for these people
- 25:20who used a judge that was
- 25:22not credentialed,
- 25:27it really stinks for those
- 25:28people who may have given
- 25:30up their dream this year
- 25:31because they couldn't get
- 25:33the judges in place or they
- 25:34couldn't get to an affiliate or, um,
- 25:37all of that.
- 25:37And it just seems weird that
- 25:39CrossFit would make an
- 25:39exception on one side and
- 25:41maybe not on the other.
- 25:42And I thought that she made
- 25:43an excellent point on that last night.
- 25:46Um,
- 25:47that meant that I know Carolyn
- 25:49completely agreed with, um,
- 25:52when she said it.
- 25:53So it was a great show last night.
- 25:56Really fun.
- 25:58We had two call-ins.
- 26:03We had nice discussions
- 26:05about a lot of things.
- 26:07I thought it was really a
- 26:08fun show last night.
- 26:09And thank you, Denise, for calling in.
- 26:11Thank you to Lynn for calling in.
- 26:14And everybody just
- 26:15participating in the chat.
- 26:16It made it really a good time.
- 26:21So
- 26:23So, yeah,
- 26:25I think it just stinks that it
- 26:26happened at this really
- 26:28cool event where Mayhem
- 26:29tried to do something cool
- 26:30for their athletes by
- 26:32having judges there for
- 26:33them and do this thing.
- 26:36And then it turns into a
- 26:38fiasco because a couple of
- 26:40the judges didn't have
- 26:43credentials that were valid.
- 26:46It just really stinks.
- 26:48It's.
- 26:52And I know it's the onus of the athlete,
- 26:55and I'm telling you,
- 26:56I talked to one of the athletes today.
- 26:59I'm sure they are never
- 27:00going to let this happen
- 27:01again now that they've
- 27:03learned their lesson by
- 27:05having their score zeroed out.
- 27:09Crazy, just crazy.
- 27:13So that is that.
- 27:17Um,
- 27:18the last thing I want to talk about is
- 27:19I just love sports.
- 27:20Um,
- 27:21the masters yesterday was awesome to
- 27:23watch.
- 27:23I I've said on here before,
- 27:25I watch a couple hours of golf a year.
- 27:28Um,
- 27:28and it's usually the masters in one
- 27:30other tournament.
- 27:31Um,
- 27:33The way that golf ends these tournaments,
- 27:37these majors,
- 27:39where guys choke and then
- 27:40hit incredible shot and
- 27:41then choke and then hit incredible shot,
- 27:44it is the most frustrating
- 27:46but exhilarating thing to watch.
- 27:49Um,
- 27:50but what I love is that unlike movies
- 27:52or TV shows,
- 27:53you never know how it's going to end.
- 27:56Um,
- 27:57and so you are just waiting for the
- 28:00next shoe to drop.
- 28:02And the masters did that yesterday.
- 28:04And it just reminded me why
- 28:07I love watching sports.
- 28:10Why?
- 28:11And that's why I love watching CrossFit,
- 28:12right?
- 28:13I love watching, uh,
- 28:18Because especially in these
- 28:20last... Other than Tia,
- 28:23you don't know who's going
- 28:24to win at major events.
- 28:26And when that's... The men's
- 28:29division right now is so wide open.
- 28:32Anybody could win it.
- 28:35And that's what makes it awesome.
- 28:36You don't know the ending to the story.
- 28:39Now, if Tia's there,
- 28:41it makes things a little
- 28:41bit different on the women's side.
- 28:44But...
- 28:48But man, I just love it.
- 28:50I love it.
- 28:52Um, so yeah.
- 28:56So anyway,
- 28:56don't forget taxes are due tomorrow.
- 29:00Um,
- 29:02Denise said, what a finish.
- 29:03My husband was crying
- 29:04watching Rory walk to get his jacket.
- 29:07I got goosebumps.
- 29:08When Rory fell and started
- 29:10shaking on the ground,
- 29:12I had goosebumps all over.
- 29:14I've told you guys I've been
- 29:15watching Full Swing,
- 29:17and the last episode of
- 29:18season one is all about Rory.
- 29:22And leading up to that episode, he's...
- 29:26He's dabbled in there a
- 29:27little bit because of what
- 29:28was going on with live and
- 29:29how Rory stepped up kind of against live.
- 29:34And if you don't know much
- 29:35about that story,
- 29:36like I didn't know some of
- 29:38the intricacies,
- 29:39but it talks a lot about
- 29:41live being Saudi money and
- 29:43how the Saudi money, this,
- 29:45how they Saudis are using
- 29:47sports to try to wash away
- 29:51some of the atrocities that
- 29:52happen in their country.
- 29:55And that's why it was so controversial,
- 29:56because in some ways they
- 29:59looked at the Saudi money as blood money.
- 30:02And when the golfers were
- 30:04leaving to go to live to do that,
- 30:06it wasn't simply because it
- 30:08was a place that paid them more.
- 30:10There was a lot of political
- 30:12ramifications behind it all.
- 30:15the way they treat women um
- 30:18so some of the people that
- 30:19were at the head of live
- 30:21had murdered people in the
- 30:22past and it was and rory
- 30:26really stepped up against
- 30:27that and in some ways at
- 30:30the expense of his own game
- 30:34Um,
- 30:35and so that's the first season of full
- 30:37swing.
- 30:38It's a lot about golfers
- 30:40being poached to live Rory
- 30:42kind of stepping up and
- 30:43being the leader of the
- 30:44guys that were staying with the PGA.
- 30:47Um, and, and so it's more than just golf.
- 30:52It's really a lot about what
- 30:55was happening in Saudi
- 30:57Arabia and the Saudi money.
- 31:00And what's fascinating to me
- 31:01now is there are rumors
- 31:03that there is a Saudi
- 31:05organization wanting to buy CrossFit.
- 31:08And I don't know what the
- 31:09political structure is in
- 31:11Saudi Arabia right now,
- 31:12but I'm assuming it hasn't
- 31:13changed a lot in the last four years.
- 31:16Um,
- 31:17and so it makes me wonder if the same
- 31:21stuff is happening,
- 31:22like buying CrossFit is another way to,
- 31:26um, they call it sports washing.
- 31:28Are they trying to sports
- 31:30wash what's happening?
- 31:33by buying a legit fitness company,
- 31:36a fitness methodology.
- 31:40I really want to kind of
- 31:42dive into that and see as
- 31:44we move forward in the sale of CrossFit.
- 31:47But it was really crazy,
- 31:49the parallels between what
- 31:51was happening in the golf
- 31:52circuit with Full Swing and
- 31:54what may be coming with
- 31:57CrossFit and its sale and
- 32:00who may be buying it.
- 32:02um and that's about the most
- 32:06political I've been on this
- 32:07show um because like I said
- 32:10last week I work for state
- 32:12government both parties
- 32:15have been good and bad I
- 32:17don't really have a leaning
- 32:20one way or another anymore
- 32:21because of that um
- 32:24But yeah,
- 32:25it was really fascinating to
- 32:26watch in this full swing.
- 32:29But it really made me
- 32:30respect and admire Rory for
- 32:33what he had done.
- 32:35And so yesterday it made
- 32:36watching that Masters
- 32:38moment really special for
- 32:39me and gave me a lot of
- 32:41goosebumps when he ended up winning.
- 32:45So full swing is really well done.
- 32:50even just if you want to
- 32:51look at it from the
- 32:53documentary standpoint of
- 32:54how they highlight these athletes, um,
- 32:57and you get to know them
- 32:58and what it does for them on the tour.
- 33:01Now that people know them
- 33:03and you have a rooting interest,
- 33:04just watching that first season,
- 33:06like I rooted for Rory way
- 33:07harder than I have ever
- 33:08done in my life because, um, because
- 33:16I got to know him.
- 33:16I got to know the man
- 33:18through this documentary series.
- 33:20And that means I wanted him to do better.
- 33:23I think that's what happened
- 33:24back in the day with Road to the Games.
- 33:26We learned about these
- 33:28athletes on their way up.
- 33:31And then when you learn about them,
- 33:33then you root for them and
- 33:34they become like your favorite.
- 33:36And that's what's been
- 33:37missing from this space for a long time.
- 33:42And I hope we get it back.
- 33:44Hiller's trying.
- 33:45Hiller's doing some stuff
- 33:46that I think is really, really good.
- 33:51And so hopefully it keeps
- 33:53going in that direction.
- 33:58Denise, I got to go watch full swing now.
- 34:00Just need to renew my Netflix.
- 34:02There's four seasons out there.
- 34:03I'm only through season one, Denise.
- 34:06Um, so yeah, it's really good.
- 34:08I really enjoyable.
- 34:10Um, I think you'll,
- 34:11especially you're a golfer.
- 34:14Um, I think you will really,
- 34:15really enjoy it.
- 34:18Uh, trained to live.
- 34:19What do you think the
- 34:20repercussions for those judges will be?
- 34:23I don't know if there will be any, um,
- 34:28The judges are volunteers
- 34:30for the most part.
- 34:32And this organization,
- 34:44I don't know who is in charge of the AFJ.
- 34:48I think I know.
- 34:50I think I know who's in
- 34:51charge of some of it and
- 34:53who's put it together.
- 34:55But it's a lot of
- 34:56speculation and I don't
- 34:57have verification.
- 35:00But I wouldn't be surprised.
- 35:06I think that one of the
- 35:07judges who was not
- 35:08credentialed is one of the
- 35:10people running the AFJ.
- 35:13I don't know that for a fact.
- 35:16But I strongly believe that.
- 35:20So if you're one of the ones
- 35:21running the AFJ and you're
- 35:23one of the people who did it wrong,
- 35:25who's there to punish you?
- 35:30Because you're volunteers.
- 35:31You're just a contractor
- 35:33hired in by Mayhem.
- 35:35In most events, you're just a volunteer.
- 35:38You're not being paid for anything.
- 35:40So I don't know if there are
- 35:42any repercussions for that.
- 35:47Now,
- 35:47I think the organization as a whole
- 35:50will suffer repercussions
- 35:51because people may not
- 35:53trust them to come do events anymore.
- 36:10Spin just posted an article
- 36:11naming names from the AFJ.
- 36:17Corey, Corey, Corey.
- 36:19My lunch is almost over.
- 36:24Well,
- 36:25I can figure out that I knew some of
- 36:27the names because of a
- 36:29conversation I had with one
- 36:30of the athletes.
- 36:31And I can look at his
- 36:32whiteboard to see who his head judge was.
- 36:35So I knew some of the
- 36:36athletes or some of the judges.
- 36:48um yep and that is the
- 37:06person I knew so I will
- 37:08share this because it goes
- 37:10with what I just said so yeah
- 37:20so brian clapp director of
- 37:21competition um for the afj
- 37:25was one of the judges was
- 37:27the judge I figured out had
- 37:29not had his credentials um
- 37:35and so again he's the
- 37:38competition director for
- 37:39the afj what are the what are
- 37:44what are the repercussions?
- 37:45How,
- 37:46who's going to give him repercussions
- 37:48when he's the director of
- 37:49competition of the actual organization?
- 37:52And he went out there and judged when,
- 37:58when he knew that he had an
- 38:00expired credential.
- 38:06So I think that is,
- 38:10think that is that answers
- 38:12everything there's not
- 38:13going to be any
- 38:14repercussions there will be
- 38:15for the organization but
- 38:17not for him directly unless
- 38:19the rest of the judges like
- 38:21team up to um relieve him
- 38:24of his duties or whatever
- 38:27that may be but I've
- 38:30actually judged with brian
- 38:32as far back as uh he was at
- 38:34the first regionals I judged at um
- 38:39And he did have his L-two at one point.
- 38:41It just has lapsed.
- 38:47So, yeah.
- 38:50So that is the head judge in
- 38:51question that lost his credentials.
- 38:55And because he was the head judge,
- 38:57everybody in that heat then
- 39:00did not meet the
- 39:00requirements by the rule
- 39:03book for the semifinals.
- 39:08That really sucks.
- 39:16And if you want to add some
- 39:18tea to the drink, um,
- 39:22he is married to a masters
- 39:25CrossFit games athlete who
- 39:27has been suspended for
- 39:29performance enhancing drugs as well.
- 39:34So you have that on top of this,
- 39:45but anyway,
- 39:46I digress.
- 39:47Uh, yeah, it's,
- 39:53it's a tangled web we weave there, Corey.
- 39:59I, I just don't know how someone,
- 40:01when I found out this
- 40:02morning that it was a head judge, um,
- 40:07knowing that if they take the floor,
- 40:10they invalidate everybody
- 40:12in that heat as head judge, it just.
- 40:17it just really kind of upset
- 40:20me even more because he had to know.
- 40:23He had to know that his
- 40:24L-tuit had expired.
- 40:25And to take the floor and be
- 40:29the director of competition
- 40:30for that organization and
- 40:31to put their reputation at
- 40:33risk and all these
- 40:35athletes' scores at risk
- 40:38was just irresponsible.
- 40:42And now that it's all public
- 40:44because the spin has just put it all out,
- 40:46that it really kind of
- 40:48pisses me off that all of
- 40:49this has happened because he knew better.
- 40:52There's no way he did not
- 40:54know that his L two had
- 40:56expired and to then take
- 40:58the floor and put the AFJ at risk.
- 41:01And then to put all of the
- 41:02athlete scores at risk was wrong.
- 41:06And the problem is there's
- 41:07no governing body over the
- 41:08judges other than the
- 41:10organization he is an
- 41:13executive in for him to
- 41:15even feel the repercussions
- 41:17of what may have happened.
- 41:27Scott has all the dirt this morning.
- 41:29Yeah.
- 41:32only reason I have some of
- 41:33the dirt though denise is
- 41:34because one of my friends
- 41:35was affected right and I
- 41:37and I talked to him and and
- 41:39then it it just upsets me
- 41:41because here's someone who
- 41:43put in a year's worth of
- 41:44work and because someone
- 41:46was irresponsible and took
- 41:47the floor when they knew better
- 41:51there's a chance that he
- 41:52can't go on to the games,
- 41:54something he's been working for all year.
- 41:56You know what that's like.
- 41:57You put in so much time,
- 42:00and then to have that
- 42:00ripped away because someone
- 42:02was irresponsible, not fair.
- 42:14Yeah, that's not right.
- 42:18Corey,
- 42:18I am so encapsulated in my own bubble.
- 42:21There's no way on God's earth.
- 42:22I could in good faith,
- 42:23except that responsibility,
- 42:24knowing damn good and well,
- 42:26my credentials were expired.
- 42:31Cat actually asked me this morning,
- 42:35what does it mean if he
- 42:36judged the mayhem classic?
- 42:38And what's ironic about this
- 42:39is because CrossFit is
- 42:42farming that out and it's
- 42:43not even a part of the CrossFit games.
- 42:48Um,
- 42:50team that that is mayhem and
- 42:52rich putting that on that's
- 42:54not in the rule book you
- 42:56don't have to have
- 42:56credential judges for that
- 42:59part of the competition so
- 43:02they could hire the afj
- 43:03they could have all the
- 43:04expired people out there
- 43:05doing all the judging and
- 43:08it wouldn't have mattered
- 43:09at the mayhem classic
- 43:11But on the online competition,
- 43:14it matters because it's a
- 43:15part of the rule book and
- 43:16those were the rules required.
- 43:19And people like Corey and
- 43:20people like Denise and
- 43:22people like Jamie and
- 43:23Carolyn followed those rules.
- 43:26As hard as it may have been
- 43:27for them to do that,
- 43:29they followed all those rules.
- 43:36And these people at Mayhem
- 43:37thought they were following them too.
- 43:45But someone took the floor
- 43:47knowing that they weren't
- 43:48credentialed and put
- 43:50everybody at risk and didn't care.
- 44:01So with that,
- 44:03I think I have said my piece.
- 44:07It's time for us to get back to work.
- 44:10Time for you knuckleheads to
- 44:11get back to work.
- 44:13And I'll see everybody tomorrow.
- 44:14And hopefully we have some
- 44:16better things to talk about.
- 44:18Can chill out, relax.
- 44:20We'll see you guys then.
- 44:22Bye.
