- 0:00Genesis chapter 32. Let us pray.
- 0:05Our Father, our God, our king are everything.
- 0:08We thank you, God, for another day.
- 0:10We thank you for giving us life. We thank you, God, for giving us
- 0:13breath. We thank you for family.
- 0:16Yeah. We thank you for food.
- 0:17We thank you for clean drinking water.
- 0:19We thank you, God, that you protected us through the night.
- 0:22We thank you for giving us your eternal word.
- 0:25We thank you, God. Breathe upon us Father.
- 0:28I pray you'll rest upon us God. Send fire, God, I pray that we
- 0:32will be flames of fire God, to go out into the world and light
- 0:37it up. God, I pray that we will be
- 0:39able, Lord, to go into the hardest and darkest places.
- 0:43You'll supernaturally fill us, God, with your presence, with
- 0:46your zeal. God will go in Lord, and flip
- 0:49over the tables, God, and drive out the money changers, Lord,
- 0:53that have been placed upon your house.
- 0:55God, we are the temple, Father. I thank you, Father, in dwelling
- 0:59us and filling us. God, I thank you that you have
- 1:02made us into the ministers of reconciliation, that we are more
- 1:06than conqueror, we are the peacemakers.
- 1:09God, I thank you that you have given us a reason to live, that
- 1:12you have given us more of yourself, that you have given us
- 1:16a greater measure, Father, of your presence.
- 1:19And so, Lord, as we draw near to you, God, I pray that you'll
- 1:22draw near to us. For you are worthy to be
- 1:26praised. You are worthy, God, of all of
- 1:28our attention and adoration. And for the time that we're
- 1:31going to spend together, Lord, I pray that you will come in and
- 1:35you will teach us, Lord, that it'll be your precepts line upon
- 1:39line, God that we learn, Lord, that we'll see that Scripture
- 1:43interprets Scripture today. God, I pray that as we open up
- 1:46the word that is alive and active, God, that you will
- 1:49search our hearts, search our minds, search our motives.
- 1:53God, I pray that you'll pull out anything that doesn't belong.
- 1:56Help us to consecrate this temple, to take out all the
- 1:59worthless idols that cannot see and cannot hear God and
- 2:03pulverize them in the streets. God into dust.
- 2:07Father, I pray that it'll only be you, Elohim, the Most High
- 2:12God, El Elyon. Father, that we lift our eyes
- 2:15and our gaze up to the Maker of heaven and earth, where all of
- 2:19our help comes from. Heal us, God, heal our bodies
- 2:23and heal our minds, Father, heal our families, heal marriage is.
- 2:26God. I pray, Lord, that you'll help
- 2:28us, Lord, help the woman who's struggling right now with making
- 2:33a decision, Lord, to preserve life.
- 2:37God, I pray that you'll help the spouse, Lord, that is thinking
- 2:42about checking out. God help them, Lord, to lock in.
- 2:46Lord, help them to see that what they are doing makes eternal
- 2:50impacts. God, we pray for the strength of
- 2:52the church. We pray for the strength of the
- 2:54family. God, we pray for the sanctity of
- 2:57life. God, we pray for our leaders.
- 2:59Lord, we pray that you'll raise up righteous, just leaders unto
- 3:04yourself. We pray God against the inept
- 3:06leaders. Father, we pray against the
- 3:09spirit God that is behind all of the destructive powers.
- 3:13Lord, we pray against all of the demonic strongholds.
- 3:16God, we tear them down in the name of Jesus Christ.
- 3:20God, I pray for light to flood in.
- 3:22Lord, I pray for fresh wind and fresh fire revival.
- 3:26God to break out across this globe, every continent and every
- 3:30people group. Lord, let us all cry out.
- 3:32Yeshua, come, Lord, come. Maranatha, come.
- 3:36The Spirit and the Bride say come, We love you, we worship
- 3:40you in spirit and truth, for you are worthy, you are holy, and
- 3:44you are awesome and mighty to be praised.
- 3:48We thank you, King Jesus, we love you.
- 3:50King Jesus, I decrease as you increase.
- 3:53Holy Spirit, teach us and give us discernment today.
- 3:56Help us to see these words, Father, as your flesh.
- 3:59Help us to feast upon them and drink from them, God, for you
- 4:03are holy and you are worthy, and we love you, Father, and it's in
- 4:06your holy and precious and powerful, an awesome, a majestic
- 4:11name that we pray Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Amen.
- 4:17Let's start in verse one. And Jacob went on his way and
- 4:22the angels of God met him. So think about it for a second,
- 4:26friends, here Jacob is and he's returning.
- 4:29He just left. Oh, Laban, he's already taken
- 4:32Laban to task. He didn't realize that Rachel
- 4:36had stolen Laban's idols. And here he is.
- 4:39He's coming back into Beth El where he saw the ladder set up
- 4:44King Jesus where the angels are ascending and descending upon
- 4:48the Son of Man. This go between and you need to
- 4:52understand that we have access into the throne room.
- 4:55We have access into the holiest of holies because the veil was
- 4:59torn from top to bottom. You can be sure you can bet your
- 5:03bottom dollar, you can bank upon the fact that you have access
- 5:07into the throne room of God and that he hears your prayers and
- 5:11that he answers your prayers. And sometimes he says yes and
- 5:14sometimes he says no. But there is most of the time
- 5:18that he says wait, because most of the best things that God does
- 5:22in your life is in the waiting, friends.
- 5:24But here is Jacob and he's coming through the land and he's
- 5:28passing back through where he had set up this monument unto
- 5:33God and he had the pillow there and he laid down.
- 5:37And now we're going to see what God had in mind when he told him
- 5:40to return back to his land. Verse 2.
- 5:44And when Jacob saw them, he said, this is God's host.
- 5:48And he called the name of that place Mahanahan.
- 5:52So you need to know that these angels of God, they come there,
- 5:59and here comes Jacob out of the Syrian land of Laban, and here
- 6:05he is returning back to Canaan, and he sees these angels and he
- 6:12knows that they're angels. Friends.
- 6:14And some have entertained angels unaware by showing hospitality.
- 6:20You need to understand that angels can come in the form of a
- 6:23human, that you would not know it.
- 6:26And they are watching friends and they are reporting friends.
- 6:30And here Jacob has enough wherewithal to know that these
- 6:33are not just men, that these are the angels of God.
- 6:38Three. And Jacob sent messengers before
- 6:40him to Esau his brother, unto the land of Seer, the country of
- 6:44Edom. And look how we Passover verse
- 6:47one and verse 2, and right into verse three, friends.
- 6:50And don't miss verse one and two.
- 6:52There is so much spiritual application here of making sure
- 6:56that we are constantly aware with our radar on and our
- 7:00antenna up, that angels are all around us.
- 7:04Friends for And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall you
- 7:08speak unto my Lord Esau, your servant.
- 7:11Jacob says this. I have sojourned with Laban and
- 7:14stayed there until now. So here comes Jacob's own
- 7:18intellect and his own pride. Here comes Jacob's own
- 7:22understanding and reasoning. And he does not know if Esau is
- 7:26going to kill him like he said that he was.
- 7:29And God's already told Jacob to return back to the land, and if
- 7:34he was trusting God, he would know that he knows that he knows
- 7:37that he knows that Esau cannot do anything.
- 7:40Much like Laban was not able to touch him for either good or
- 7:44bad, it's the same with Esau. But here you see Jacob slide
- 7:49back down into his deal making and all of his own scheming.
- 7:55Let's see how it goes. And he calls, he calls Esau my
- 8:00Lord, and what he's doing is he's trying to win him over.
- 8:05Verse 5 I have ox and asses and flocks and men, servants, women
- 8:09servants, and I've sent to tell my Lord that I may find grace in
- 8:14your sight. So he's saying, I have plenty, I
- 8:16don't need any of yours. I'm not coming to raid.
- 8:19I'm not coming to try to steal or take.
- 8:21I'm coming in peace. 6 And the messengers returned to Jacob,
- 8:27saying, We came to your brother Esau, and he also comes to meet
- 8:31you with 400 men with him. It would look as if Esau had a
- 8:36Mastan army and he's coming to do a hostile takeover of Jacob's
- 8:42people. But if Jacob was really trusting
- 8:45in God, and if he had remembered what God had told him, he would
- 8:49not be operating in the spirit of fear.
- 8:51And that is something for us to remember, friends, that when God
- 8:55speaks it and it's in his word, friends, this is the infallible,
- 8:58inerrant word of God. And we memorize his word and we
- 9:02hold God to it, and we wave it in front of him and say, God,
- 9:06this is what you have promised us.
- 9:07And so if Jacob was operating in in that sense where he could go
- 9:11to God and say, God, you told me to go back to the land, now I'm
- 9:16trusting you for security and provision.
- 9:19I know that you would not be leading me into a trap.
- 9:21But here we see Jacob. He's writhing, trying to figure
- 9:25out the moves of Esau. Let's see how it goes. 7 And
- 9:30Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed, and divided the
- 9:34people that was with him, and the flocks and the herds and the
- 9:36camels into two bands. So he separated his company, so
- 9:41that if Esau was to take one, then the other would be
- 9:44preserved. 8 And said, If Esau come to the one company and
- 9:48strike it, then the other company which is left shall
- 9:50escape. 9 And Jacob said, Oh, God of my father Abraham, and
- 9:55God of my father Isaac, the Lord, which said to me, Return
- 9:59to your country and to your kindred, I will deal well with
- 10:03you. So God told him he was going to
- 10:05deal well with them. And look at how Jacob here, he
- 10:08is yet to call God his God. God is still to him the God of
- 10:12Abraham and the God of his father.
- 10:14He's yet to become personal to him.
- 10:16Ten I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all
- 10:21the truth which you have showed unto your servant.
- 10:24For with my staff I passed over this Jordan, and now I'm become
- 10:29two bands. So we go, goes to God, and he
- 10:31says, God, you told me to return, I am sore afraid, and
- 10:35now I have divided my people into two.
- 10:38What shall I do? 11 Deliver me, I pray you, from
- 10:42the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him,
- 10:47lest he will come and strike me and the mother with the
- 10:50children. So here Jacob is operating in
- 10:53the spirit of fear, but he has enough wherewithal to go to God
- 10:57and to beg God to pray protect him.
- 11:00And we see him increasing his faith.
- 11:03And that is what God does with us.
- 11:04He develops us friends. And so much of the things that
- 11:08we go through in this life are for the very purposes of
- 11:11increasing the communication. And God is worthy of your
- 11:15prayers. God is worthy of your time.
- 11:18God is worthy of your talents. Friends, God is worthy to be
- 11:23praised. And so much of the things that
- 11:26we go through could be avoided if we could praise Him in the
- 11:30good times. Praise Him when the chips are
- 11:33high. Praise Him when everything is
- 11:35going good. Do not wait until these low
- 11:38moments fortify your faith in the times that things are going
- 11:43well. Do not wait until the times
- 11:46where you're in the valley because every single Christian
- 11:49that you meet is either going into or coming out of a valley,
- 11:53friends. And that is the reality of this
- 11:55faith that we have. 12 And you said, I will surely do you good,
- 12:03and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be
- 12:06numbered for multitude. This is not because of anything
- 12:10that Jacob has done. He is the deceiver, he is the
- 12:13hill catcher. But we remember his grandfather
- 12:16Abraham, the father of faith, the friend of God, that God made
- 12:20a covenant and told him these very same promises.
- 12:26Three and he lodged there that same night, and he took of the
- 12:29which came to his hand a present for Esau, his brother.
- 12:34So he's gathering together this large amassment of animals.
- 12:3914200 She goats. 200 He goats, 200 ewes and 220 Rams, 1530 milk
- 12:50camels with their Colts, 40 kind and 10 bulls. 20 she asses and
- 12:54tenfold. 16 And he delivered them into the hand of his
- 12:57servants. Every drove by themselves, and
- 13:01said unto his servants, Passover before me, and put a space
- 13:05between drove and drove. So he's going to walk behind and
- 13:09he's going to allow this amassment of animals to come in
- 13:13waves unto Esau. And he's trying to swoon him and
- 13:17win him over and try to get him on his side and to show that he
- 13:21is not coming in hostility, but he's coming passively.
- 13:26He's coming as a brother and not as a warrior, as an enemy.
- 13:31And if he was truly trusting in God, he would have been at the
- 13:34forefront. He would have ran out to meet
- 13:36him, trusting in God. 17 And he commanded the foremost, saying,
- 13:43When he saw my brother meet you, and asked, you saying, Who are
- 13:46you, and where do you go, and whose are these before you?
- 13:5018 Then you shall say, They be your servant, Jacobs.
- 13:54It is a present sent unto my Lord Esau, and behold, he is
- 13:58behind us. So here was a strategy that
- 14:02Jacob had formulated in his schematic mind to say, I will
- 14:08send waves upon waves upon waves of my servants and animals,
- 14:13until finally, when Esau gets to me, he will have an
- 14:17understanding that I am not coming in violence. 19 And so
- 14:24commanded he the 2nd and the 3rd, and all that followed the
- 14:27drove, saying, On this manner shall you speak unto Esau when
- 14:31you find him? 20 And say, You moreover,
- 14:34behold, your servant Jacob is behind us.
- 14:39For he said, I will appease him for the present that goes before
- 14:43me, and afterward I will see his face per adventure he will
- 14:46accept of me. 21 So went the present over before him, and he
- 14:51and himself lodged that night in the company. 22 And he rose up
- 14:56that night, and he took his two wives and his two women
- 14:59servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the Ford Jabba.
- 15:0323 And he took them and sent them over the brook, and sent
- 15:07over that he had. So finally he had to separate
- 15:10himself from the large company, He had to separate himself from
- 15:15his family, and he got a loan. And we know that our Lord Jesus
- 15:18Christ often withdrew to desolate places.
- 15:21And you need to understand that you have to get a loan, friends.
- 15:25A lot of times in the hustle and bustle, in the rat race of life,
- 15:29when everything is just noise and noise and more noise, and we
- 15:33fill the void with more noise, friends, and it's nothing but a
- 15:37distraction. We need to get alone.
- 15:39We need to cut it all off. We need to get silent before the
- 15:42Lord and let the still small voice speak to us.
- 15:46Friends, we cannot just keep drowning out the voice of God
- 15:50with all of the things in this world, with entertainment and
- 15:54amusement. Friends, we need to get alone.
- 15:58We need to practice the presence of God.
- 16:00We need to have the discipline to sit in the silence and listen
- 16:05unto God. And that is what is about to
- 16:06happen with Jacob. 24 Jacob was left alone, and there wrestled a
- 16:17man with him until the breaking of the day.
- 16:21This is the preincarnate Lord Jesus Christ that he's wrestling
- 16:25with. And there is there's no
- 16:27competition, friends. This is all for Jacob's
- 16:33development. This is for Jacob's maturation.
- 16:36This is for the discipleship of Jacob so that he can see that he
- 16:41is there's no strength inside of him, and the best thing that he
- 16:46can do here in this moment is to give up, is to surrender unto
- 16:51Jesus Christ. That is the purpose of this
- 16:54passage. Friends, this is not pointing to
- 16:57the fact that Jacob was some kind of usurper over the Lord
- 17:01Jesus Christ preincarnate. This is not a passage showing
- 17:05that Jacob was victorious over God for the blessing.
- 17:09This is showing that Jacob has no strength and no power, and
- 17:12that Jesus Christ completely over comes him and gets him to
- 17:17understand the futility of his intellect, the futility of his
- 17:23reasoning and schemes, and the futility of all of his own
- 17:29plans, and to completely 100,000% trust in the Lord God
- 17:35Almighty, the God of Abraham and the fear of Isaac, and needs to
- 17:39become personal unto Jacob. And this is where the rubber
- 17:43hits the road. This is where we see the men
- 17:47separated from the boys right here, friends. 25 And when he
- 17:53saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the
- 17:57hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out
- 18:01of joint as he wrestled with him.
- 18:04So he's trying his best to get the best of the Lord Jesus here.
- 18:09And you can see that there is no winning against him.
- 18:13And in the struggle his hip gets put out a joint. 26 And he said,
- 18:18Let me go for the day breaks. And he says, I will not let you
- 18:22go, except you bless me. So here you can see this
- 18:27wonderful passage, that he has enough what wherewithal and
- 18:34mental fortitude to understand that this is not just a man,
- 18:38that he's wrestling, that this is the pre Incarnate Lord.
- 18:42And he says that he will not let him go until he blesses him. 27
- 18:47And he said unto him, What is your name?
- 18:49And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Your name shall be called
- 18:54no more Jacob, but Israel. For as a Prince has you power
- 19:01with God and with men, and has prevailed.
- 19:04So here we see the blessing of God placed upon Jacob, and Jacob
- 19:09is no longer the deceiver. He's no longer having to live up
- 19:13to this false name. He is stepping in to the one who
- 19:18wrestled with God. 29 And Jacob asked him and said, Tell me, I
- 19:25pray you, what is your name? And he said, Why is it that you
- 19:30ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
- 19:33So the Lord Jesus says, You already know that I am who I am,
- 19:38and he blessed him. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place
- 19:44penile. For I have seen God face to
- 19:48face, and my life is preserved. So he had enough understanding
- 19:54to realize that this was not just a man that he's wrestling
- 19:57with, that this is God and that this is the Son of God and this
- 20:03is the preincarnate Christ coming on the scene. 31 And he
- 20:09passed over Pin UL. The sun rose upon him, and he
- 20:14halted upon his thigh. So he was hobbling.
- 20:20He was having a hard time because as he comes out of this
- 20:26wrestling match with God, he is now having to deal with this hip
- 20:34being out of socket. 32 Therefore the children of Israel
- 20:40do not eat the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow
- 20:43of the thigh unto this day, because He touched the hollow of
- 20:47Jacob's thigh and the sinew that shrank.
- 20:50So even the Israelites at the time of the writing, they would
- 20:53not eat this section of the animal because it was in
- 20:57reverence of this story of knowing that the God of Abraham,
- 21:01Isaac, and Jacob is so powerful and that he was so close in
- 21:06proximity unto mankind. And look at how Jacob, he didn't
- 21:11deserve it. And we don't deserve his grace
- 21:14either, friends. We don't deserve these touches
- 21:17from God. We don't get to call the shots.
- 21:19We don't try to tell God how He should show up and how He should
- 21:24show up and when He should show up.
- 21:26God does whatever He pleases. All we can do is break up the
- 21:30fallow ground. All we can do is cultivate the
- 21:33environment and plead for His presence, friends, and God will
- 21:39honor that. And God will show up and show
- 21:41off and blow the pictures off the wall and wreck your theology
- 21:45and wreck your doctrine, friends, with His presence until
- 21:48you cover your mouth and say, I've said too much, Lord.
- 21:53His presence is so incredibly encapsulating.
- 21:58You will be undone, friends. I pray that you have been
- 22:01blessed by this mighty, magnificent, amazing story in
- 22:06God's Word where we actually get to see Jacob become Israel, the
- 22:11very nation that is in our existence today, the very people
- 22:14group that are right here, mainstream politics.
- 22:18Friends, what an amazing fact, What an amazing statement.
- 22:25What an amazing story. I'm praying for you.
- 22:29I love you. We'll see you back here
- 22:31tomorrow. God bless you.
