- 0:00Speaker 1: Second Nephi, Chapter four. And now I Nephi speak concerning
- 0:06Speaker 1: the prophecies of which my father hath spoken concerning Joseph,
- 0:10Speaker 1: who was carried into Egypt. For behold, he truly prophesied
- 0:14Speaker 1: concerning all his seed, and the prophecies which he wrote,
- 0:18Speaker 1: there are not many greater. And he prophesied concerning us
- 0:22Speaker 1: and our future generations. And they are written upon the
- 0:25Speaker 1: plates of brass. Wherefore, after my father had made an
- 0:29Speaker 1: end of speaking concerning the prophecies of Joseph, he called
- 0:33Speaker 1: the children of laymen, his sons and his daughters, and
- 0:37Speaker 1: said unto them, behold my sons and my daughters, who
- 0:41Speaker 1: are the sons and the daughters of my first born.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I would that ye should give ear unto my words.
- 0:48Speaker 1: For the Lord God Hath said that inasmuch as ye
- 0:51Speaker 1: shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land.
- 0:55Speaker 1: And inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments, ye
- 0:58Speaker 1: shall be cut off my presence. But behold, my sons
- 1:03Speaker 1: and my daughters. I cannot go down to my grave,
- 1:06Speaker 1: save I should leave a blessing upon you. For behold,
- 1:10Speaker 1: I know that if ye are brought up in the way,
- 1:13Speaker 1: ye should go ye will not depart from it. Wherefore,
- 1:17Speaker 1: if ye are cursed, behold, I leave my blessing upon you,
- 1:21Speaker 1: that the cursing may be taken from you and be
- 1:24Speaker 1: answered upon the heads of your parents. Wherefore, because of
- 1:29Speaker 1: my blessing, the Lord God will not suffer that ye
- 1:31Speaker 1: shall perish. Wherefore he will be merciful unto you and
- 1:36Speaker 1: unto your seed forever. And it came to pass that
- 1:40Speaker 1: after my father had made an end of speaking to
- 1:42Speaker 1: the sons and daughters of Layman, he caused the sons
- 1:46Speaker 1: and daughters of Lemuel to be brought before him, and
- 1:49Speaker 1: he spake unto them, saying, behold, my sons and my daughters,
- 1:54Speaker 1: who are the sons and the daughters of my second son. Behold,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I leave unto you the same blessing which I left
- 2:01Speaker 1: unto the sons and daughters of Layman. Wherefore thou shalt
- 2:04Speaker 1: not utterly be destroyed, but in the end thy seed
- 2:08Speaker 1: shall be blessed. And it came to pass that when
- 2:11Speaker 1: my father had made an end of speaking unto them,
- 2:14Speaker 1: Behold he spake unto the sons of Ishmael Yea, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: even all his household. And after he had made an
- 2:22Speaker 1: end of speaking unto them, he spake unto Sam, saying,
- 2:26Speaker 1: blessed art thou and thy seed, for thou shalt inherit
- 2:30Speaker 1: the land like unto thy brother, Nephi, and thy seed
- 2:34Speaker 1: shall be numbered with his seed, and thou shalt be
- 2:38Speaker 1: even like unto thy brother, and thy seed like unto
- 2:42Speaker 1: his seed, and thou shalt be blest in all thy days.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And it came to pass after my father Lehi had
- 2:49Speaker 1: spoken unto all his household, according to the feelings of
- 2:53Speaker 1: his heart and the spirit of the Lord which was
- 2:56Speaker 1: in him, he waxed old, and it came to pass
- 3:00Speaker 1: that he died and was buried. And it came to
- 3:03Speaker 1: pass that not many days after his death, Layman and Lemuel,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and the sons of Ishmael were angry with me because
- 3:10Speaker 1: of the admonitions of the Lord. For I Nephi was
- 3:14Speaker 1: constrained to speak unto them according to his word, for
- 3:18Speaker 1: I had spoken many things unto them, and also my
- 3:21Speaker 1: father before his death, many of which sayings are written
- 3:25Speaker 1: upon mine other plates. For a more history part are
- 3:28Speaker 1: written upon mine other plates, and upon these I write
- 3:32Speaker 1: the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures
- 3:35Speaker 1: which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my
- 3:39Speaker 1: soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them
- 3:43Speaker 1: and writeth them for the learning and the prophet of
- 3:46Speaker 1: my children. Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of
- 3:50Speaker 1: the Lord, and my heart pondereth continually upon the things
- 3:53Speaker 1: which I have seen and heard. Nevertheless, notwithstanding the great
- 3:58Speaker 1: goodness of the Lord in showing me his great and
- 4:01Speaker 1: marvelous works, my heart exclaimeth, o wretched man, that I
- 4:06Speaker 1: am yea. My heart sorroweth because of my flesh. My
- 4:11Speaker 1: soul grieveth because of mine iniquities. I am encompassed about,
- 4:16Speaker 1: because of the temptations and the sins which do so
- 4:20Speaker 1: easily beset me. And when I desire to rejoice, my
- 4:24Speaker 1: heart growneth because of my sins. Nevertheless, I know in
- 4:29Speaker 1: whom I have trusted. My God hath been my support.
- 4:34Speaker 1: He hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the
- 4:40Speaker 1: great deep. He hath filled me with his love even
- 4:43Speaker 1: unto the consuming of my flesh. He hath confounded mine enemies,
- 4:48Speaker 1: unto the causing of them to quake before me. Behold,
- 4:52Speaker 1: he hath heard my cry by day, and he hath
- 4:55Speaker 1: given me knowledge by visions in the night time. And
- 4:59Speaker 1: by day have I waxed bold and mighty prayer before him? Yea,
- 5:03Speaker 1: my voice have I sent up on high, and angels
- 5:07Speaker 1: came down and ministered unto me. And upon the wings
- 5:10Speaker 1: of his spirit hath my body been carried away upon
- 5:13Speaker 1: exceedingly high mountains, And mine eyes have beheld great things, yea,
- 5:19Speaker 1: even too great for man. Therefore I was bidden that
- 5:22Speaker 1: I should not write them. Oh, then, if I have
- 5:27Speaker 1: seen so great things, if the Lord and his condescension
- 5:30Speaker 1: unto the children of men hath visited men in so
- 5:33Speaker 1: much mercy, Why should my heart weep and my soul
- 5:37Speaker 1: linger in the valley of sorrow, and my flesh waste away,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and my strength slackened because of mine afflictions? And why
- 5:46Speaker 1: should I yield to sin because of my flesh? Yea?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Why should I give way to temptations that the evil
- 5:54Speaker 1: One have place in my heart to destroy my peace
- 5:57Speaker 1: and afflict my soul? Why am I angry because of
- 6:01Speaker 1: mine enemy? Awake my soul no longer droop in sin.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Rejoice o my heart, and give place no more for
- 6:10Speaker 1: the enemy of my soul. Do not anger again because
- 6:14Speaker 1: of mine enemies. Do not slacken my strength because of
- 6:17Speaker 1: mine afflictions. Rejoice, O my heart, and cry unto the Lord,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and say, O Lord, I will praise THEE forever. Yea,
- 6:28Speaker 1: my soul will rejoice in THEE, my God and the
- 6:31Speaker 1: rock of my salvation. O Lord, wilt thou redeem my soul.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Wilt thou deliver me out of the hands of mine enemies.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the
- 6:44Speaker 1: appearance of sin? May the gates of hell be shut
- 6:48Speaker 1: continually before me, because that my heart is broken and
- 6:52Speaker 1: my spirit is contride. O Lord, wilt thou not shut
- 6:55Speaker 1: the gates of thy righteousness before me? That I may
- 6:59Speaker 1: walk in the path the low valley, that I may
- 7:01Speaker 1: be strict in the plain road. O Lord, wilt thou
- 7:06Speaker 1: encircle me around in the robe of thy righteousness? O? Lord,
- 7:11Speaker 1: wilt thou make a way for mine escape before mine enemies.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Wilt thou make my path straight before me? Wilt thou
- 7:19Speaker 1: not place a stumbling block in my way? But that
- 7:22Speaker 1: thou wouldst clear my way before me, and hedge not
- 7:26Speaker 1: up my way, but the ways of mine enemy, O, Lord,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I have trusted in THEE, and I will trust in
- 7:33Speaker 1: THEE forever. I will not put my trust in the
- 7:36Speaker 1: arm of flesh, for I know that cursed is he
- 7:40Speaker 1: that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea,
- 7:43Speaker 1: cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or
- 7:47Speaker 1: maketh flesh his arm. Yea, I know that God will
- 7:50Speaker 1: give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, My God will
- 7:54Speaker 1: give me if I ask not amiss. Therefore I will
- 7:58Speaker 1: lift up my voice to THEE. Yea, I will cry
- 8:02Speaker 1: unto THEE, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold,
- 8:06Speaker 1: my voice shall forever ascend up unto THEE, my Rock
- 8:11Speaker 1: and mine everlasting God, Amen. Chapter five. Behold it came
- 8:18Speaker 1: to pass that I Nephi, did cry much unto the
- 8:21Speaker 1: Lord my God, because of the anger of my brethren.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But behold, their anger did increase against me, insomuch that
- 8:27Speaker 1: they did seek to take away my life. Yea, they
- 8:30Speaker 1: did murmur against me, saying, our younger brother thinks to
- 8:34Speaker 1: rule over us, and we have had much trial because
- 8:37Speaker 1: of him. Wherefore, now let us slay him, that we
- 8:41Speaker 1: may not be afflicted more. Because of his words. For behold,
- 8:45Speaker 1: we will not have him to be our ruler, for
- 8:48Speaker 1: it belongs unto us, who are the elder brethren, to
- 8:51Speaker 1: rule over this people. Now, I do not write upon
- 8:55Speaker 1: these plates all the words which they murmured against me,
- 8:58Speaker 1: but it sufficeth me to say that they did seek
- 9:01Speaker 1: to take away my life. And it came to pass
- 9:04Speaker 1: that the Lord did warn me that I Nephi should
- 9:07Speaker 1: depart from them and flee into the wilderness, and all
- 9:10Speaker 1: those who would go with me. Wherefore it came to
- 9:13Speaker 1: pass that I Nephi did take my family, and also
- 9:16Speaker 1: Zorim and his family, and sam Mine elder brother and
- 9:20Speaker 1: his family, and Jacob and Joseph, my younger brethren, and
- 9:24Speaker 1: also my sisters, and also those who would go with me.
- 9:28Speaker 1: And all those who would go with me were those
- 9:31Speaker 1: who believed in the warnings and the revelations of God.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Wherefore they did hearken unto my words. And we did
- 9:38Speaker 1: take our tents and whatsoever things were possible for us,
- 9:41Speaker 1: and did journey in the wilderness for the space of
- 9:44Speaker 1: many days. And after we had journeyed for the space
- 9:47Speaker 1: of many days, we did pitch our tents, and my
- 9:51Speaker 1: people would that we should call the name of the
- 9:53Speaker 1: place Nephi. Wherefore we did call it Nephi. And all
- 9:58Speaker 1: those who were with me did take upon them to
- 10:01Speaker 1: call themselves the people of Nephi. And we did observe
- 10:05Speaker 1: to keep the judgments and the statutes and the commandments
- 10:09Speaker 1: of the Lord in all things, according to the law
- 10:11Speaker 1: of Moses. And the Lord was with us. And we
- 10:15Speaker 1: did prosper exceedingly, for we did so sede, and we
- 10:18Speaker 1: did reap again in abundance, and we began to raise
- 10:22Speaker 1: flocks and herds and animals of every kind. And I
- 10:26Speaker 1: Nephi had also brought the records which were engraven upon
- 10:29Speaker 1: the plates of brass, and also the ball or compass,
- 10:33Speaker 1: which was prepared for my father by the hand of
- 10:35Speaker 1: the Lord, according to that which is written. And it
- 10:39Speaker 1: came to pass that we began to prosper exceedingly and
- 10:42Speaker 1: to multiply in the land. And I Nephi did take
- 10:45Speaker 1: the sword of Laban, and after the manner of it,
- 10:48Speaker 1: did make many swords, lest by any means the people
- 10:51Speaker 1: who were now called Lamanites should come upon us and
- 10:55Speaker 1: destroy us. For I knew their hatred towards me and
- 10:59Speaker 1: my chi children and those who were called my people.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And I did teach my people to build buildings and
- 11:06Speaker 1: to work in all manner of wood and of iron,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and
- 11:12Speaker 1: of gold, and of silver, and of precious oars, which
- 11:15Speaker 1: were in great abundance. And I Nephi did build a temple,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and I did construct it after the manner of the
- 11:22Speaker 1: Temple of Solomon, save it were not built of so
- 11:25Speaker 1: many precious things, for they were not to be found
- 11:28Speaker 1: upon the land, wherefore it could not be built like
- 11:31Speaker 1: unto Solomon's temple. But the manner of the construction was
- 11:35Speaker 1: like under the temple of Solomon, and the workmanship thereof
- 11:39Speaker 1: was exceedingly fine. And it came to pass that I
- 11:43Speaker 1: Nephi did cause my people to be industrious and to
- 11:46Speaker 1: labor with their hands. And it came to pass that
- 11:50Speaker 1: they would that I should be their king. But I
- 11:53Speaker 1: Nephi was desirous that they should have no king. Nevertheless,
- 11:57Speaker 1: I did for them according to that which was in
- 12:00Speaker 1: my power. And behold, the words of the Lord had
- 12:04Speaker 1: been fulfilled unto my brethren, which he spake concerning them,
- 12:08Speaker 1: that I should be their ruler, and their teacher. Wherefore
- 12:12Speaker 1: I had been their ruler and their teacher according to
- 12:16Speaker 1: the commandments of the Lord, until the time they sought
- 12:19Speaker 1: to take away my life. Wherefore the word of the
- 12:22Speaker 1: Lord was fulfilled, which he spake unto me, saying that
- 12:26Speaker 1: inasmuch as they will not hearken unto thy words, they
- 12:30Speaker 1: shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And behold, they were cut off from his presence. And
- 12:37Speaker 1: he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea
- 12:40Speaker 1: even a sore cursing because of their iniquity. For behold,
- 12:44Speaker 1: they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had
- 12:47Speaker 1: become like unto a flint. Wherefore, as they were white
- 12:51Speaker 1: and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be
- 12:55Speaker 1: enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a
- 12:58Speaker 1: skin of blackness to come upon them. And thus saith
- 13:02Speaker 1: the Lord God, I will cause that they shall be
- 13:05Speaker 1: loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities,
- 13:10Speaker 1: and cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth
- 13:13Speaker 1: with their seed, For they shall be cursed even with
- 13:17Speaker 1: the same cursing. And the Lord spake it. And it
- 13:20Speaker 1: was done. And because of their cursing which was upon them.
- 13:24Speaker 1: They did become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety,
- 13:28Speaker 1: and did seek in the wilderness for beasts of prey.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And the Lord God said unto me, they shall be
- 13:35Speaker 1: a scourge unto thy seed. To stir them up in
- 13:39Speaker 1: remembrance of me. And inasmuch as they will not remember
- 13:43Speaker 1: me and hearken unto my words, they shall scourge them
- 13:47Speaker 1: even unto destruction. And it came to pass that I
- 13:51Speaker 1: Nephi did consecrate Jacob and Joseph, that they should be
- 13:55Speaker 1: priests and teachers over the land of my people. And
- 13:59Speaker 1: it came to pass that we lived after the manner
- 14:01Speaker 1: of happiness, and thirty years had passed away from the
- 14:05Speaker 1: time we left Jerusalem, and I Nephi had kept the
- 14:09Speaker 1: records upon my plates which I had made of my
- 14:12Speaker 1: people thus far. And it came to pass that the
- 14:15Speaker 1: Lord God said, unto me, make other plates, and thou
- 14:19Speaker 1: shalt engrave in many things upon them, which are good
- 14:22Speaker 1: in my sight for the prophet of thy people. Wherefore, I, Nephi,
- 14:27Speaker 1: to be obedient to the commandments of the Lord, went
- 14:30Speaker 1: and made these plates upon which I have engraven these things,
- 14:34Speaker 1: and I engraved that which is pleasing unto God. And
- 14:38Speaker 1: if my people are pleased with the things of God,
- 14:41Speaker 1: they will be pleased with mine engravings which are upon
- 14:44Speaker 1: these plates. And if my people desire to know the
- 14:48Speaker 1: more particular part of the history of my people, they
- 14:51Speaker 1: must search mine other plates. And it sufficeth me to
- 14:55Speaker 1: say that forty years had passed away, and we had
- 14:58Speaker 1: already had war and contentions with our brethren. Chapter six,
- 15:05Speaker 1: The words of Jacob, the brother of Nephi, which ye
- 15:08Speaker 1: spake unto the people of Nephi. Behold, my beloved brethren,
- 15:13Speaker 1: I Jacob, having been called of God and ordained after
- 15:16Speaker 1: the manner of his Holy Order, and having been consecrated
- 15:20Speaker 1: by my brother Nephi, unto whom ye look as a
- 15:23Speaker 1: king or a protector, and on whom ye depend for safety. Behold,
- 15:28Speaker 1: ye know that I have spoken unto you exceedingly many things. Nevertheless,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I speak unto you again, for I am desirous for
- 15:36Speaker 1: the welfare of your souls. Yea, mine anxiety is great
- 15:40Speaker 1: for you, and ye yourselves know that it ever has been.
- 15:45Speaker 1: For I have exhorted you with all diligence, and I
- 15:48Speaker 1: have taught you the words of my father. And I
- 15:51Speaker 1: have spoken unto you concerning all things which are written
- 15:54Speaker 1: from the creation of the world. And now behold, I
- 15:58Speaker 1: would speak unto you concerned things which are and which
- 16:02Speaker 1: are to come. Wherefore I will read you the words
- 16:05Speaker 1: of Isaiah. And they are the words which my brother
- 16:08Speaker 1: has desired that I should speak unto you. And I
- 16:12Speaker 1: speak unto you for your sakes, that ye may learn
- 16:15Speaker 1: and glorify the name of your God. And now the
- 16:19Speaker 1: words which I shall read are they which Isaiah spake
- 16:22Speaker 1: concerning all the house of Israel. Wherefore they may be
- 16:26Speaker 1: likened unto you, for ye are of the house of Israel.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And there are many things which have been spoken by
- 16:34Speaker 1: Isaiah which may be likened unto you, because ye are
- 16:37Speaker 1: of the house of Israel. And now these are the words.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Thus saith the Lord God. Behold, I will lift up
- 16:46Speaker 1: mine hand to the gentiles and set up my standard
- 16:49Speaker 1: to the people. And they shall bring thy sons in
- 16:53Speaker 1: their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and kings shall be thy nursing fathers and their queens
- 17:01Speaker 1: thy nursing mothers. They shall bow down to thee with
- 17:05Speaker 1: their faces towards the earth, and lick up the dust
- 17:08Speaker 1: of thy feet. And thou shalt know that I am
- 17:11Speaker 1: the Lord, for they shall not be ashamed that wait
- 17:15Speaker 1: for me. And now I Jacob would speak somewhat concerning
- 17:19Speaker 1: these words. For behold, the Lord has shown me that
- 17:22Speaker 1: those who were at Jerusalem from whence we came have
- 17:26Speaker 1: been slain and carried away captive. Nevertheless, the Lord has
- 17:30Speaker 1: shown unto me that they should return again. And he
- 17:33Speaker 1: has also shown unto me that the Lord God, the
- 17:36Speaker 1: Holy One of Israel, should manifest himself unto them in
- 17:40Speaker 1: the flesh. And after he should manifest himself, they should
- 17:44Speaker 1: scourge him and crucify him, according to the words of
- 17:48Speaker 1: the Angel who spake it unto me. And after they
- 17:51Speaker 1: have hardened their hearts and stiffened their necks against the
- 17:54Speaker 1: Holy One of Israel, behold, the judgments of the Holy
- 17:57Speaker 1: One of Israel shall come upon them, and the day
- 18:01Speaker 1: cometh that they shall be smitten and afflicted. Wherefore, after
- 18:06Speaker 1: they are driven to and fro For thus saith the Angel,
- 18:10Speaker 1: many shall be afflicted in the flesh, and shall not
- 18:13Speaker 1: be suffered to perish. Because of the prayers of the faithful.
- 18:17Speaker 1: They shall be scattered and smitten and hated. Nevertheless, the
- 18:22Speaker 1: Lord will be merciful unto them, that when they shall
- 18:25Speaker 1: come to the knowledge of their redeemer, they shall be
- 18:28Speaker 1: gathered together again to the lands of their inheritance. And
- 18:32Speaker 1: blessed are the gentiles, they of whom the prophet has
- 18:35Speaker 1: written for Behold, if it so be that they shall
- 18:39Speaker 1: repent and fight not against Zion, and do not unite
- 18:43Speaker 1: themselves to that great and abominable Church, they shall be saved.
- 18:48Speaker 1: For the Lord God will fulfill his covenance which he
- 18:51Speaker 1: has made unto his children. And for this cause the
- 18:54Speaker 1: prophet has written these things. Wherefore, they that fight against
- 18:58Speaker 1: Zion and the covenant people of the Lord shall lick
- 19:01Speaker 1: up the dust of their feet. And the people of
- 19:04Speaker 1: the Lord shall not be ashamed. For the people of
- 19:07Speaker 1: the Lord are they who wait for him. For they
- 19:10Speaker 1: still wait for the coming of the Messiah. And behold,
- 19:13Speaker 1: according to the words of the prophets, the Messiah will
- 19:16Speaker 1: set himself again the second time to recover them. Wherefore
- 19:20Speaker 1: he will manifest himself unto them in power and great glory,
- 19:25Speaker 1: under the destruction of their enemies. When that day cometh,
- 19:28Speaker 1: when they shall believe in him, and none will he
- 19:31Speaker 1: destroy that believe in him. And they that believe not
- 19:35Speaker 1: in him shall be destroyed, both by fire and by tempest,
- 19:40Speaker 1: and by earthquakes, and by bloodsheds, and by pestilence and
- 19:44Speaker 1: by famine. And they shall know that the Lord is God,
- 19:48Speaker 1: the Holy One of Israel. For shall the prey be
- 19:51Speaker 1: taken from the Mighty or the lawful captive delivered? But
- 19:55Speaker 1: thus saith the Lord. Even the captives of the Mighty
- 19:59Speaker 1: shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible
- 20:02Speaker 1: shall be delivered. For the Mighty God shall deliver his
- 20:05Speaker 1: covenant people. For thus saith the Lord. I will contend
- 20:10Speaker 1: with them that contendeth with THEE. And I will feed
- 20:14Speaker 1: them that oppress THEE with their own flesh. And they
- 20:17Speaker 1: shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine,
- 20:21Speaker 1: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord, am
- 20:25Speaker 1: thy Savior and thy redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob
- 20:31Speaker 1: chapter seven. YEA. For thus saith the Lord. Have I
- 20:35Speaker 1: put thee away? Or have I cast thee off forever?
- 20:38Speaker 1: For thus saith the Lord, where is the bill of
- 20:41Speaker 1: your mother's divorcement? To whom have I put thee away,
- 20:45Speaker 1: Or to which of my creditors have I sold you? Yea,
- 20:49Speaker 1: to whom have I sold you? Behold? For your iniquities
- 20:53Speaker 1: have ye sold yourselves? And for your transgressions? Is your
- 20:57Speaker 1: mother put away? Wherefore when I came there was no man?
- 21:01Speaker 1: When I called yea, there was none to answer, O,
- 21:05Speaker 1: House of Israel. Is my hand shortened at all that
- 21:09Speaker 1: it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver?
- 21:14Speaker 1: Behold at my rebuke. I dry up the sea. I
- 21:17Speaker 1: make their rivers a wilderness, and their fish to stink
- 21:20Speaker 1: because the waters are dried up, and they die because
- 21:24Speaker 1: of thirst. I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I
- 21:28Speaker 1: make sackcloth their covering. The Lord God hath given me
- 21:31Speaker 1: the tongue of the learned, that I should know how
- 21:34Speaker 1: to speak a word in season unto thee O, House
- 21:37Speaker 1: of Israel, When ye are weary, he waketh morning by morning,
- 21:41Speaker 1: he waketh mine ear to hear as the learned. The
- 21:45Speaker 1: Lord God hath opened mine ear. And I was not rebellious,
- 21:49Speaker 1: neither turned away back. I gave my back to the smiter,
- 21:53Speaker 1: and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I hid not my face from shame and spitting, for
- 22:00Speaker 1: the Lord God will help me. Therefore shall I not
- 22:04Speaker 1: be confounded. Therefore have I set my face like a flint,
- 22:08Speaker 1: And I know that I shall not be ashamed. And
- 22:11Speaker 1: the Lord is near, and he justifieth me. Who will
- 22:15Speaker 1: contend with me? Let us stand together. Who is mine adversary?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Let him come near me, and I will smite him
- 22:22Speaker 1: with the strength of my mouth. For the Lord God
- 22:26Speaker 1: will help me. And all they who shall condemn me, behold,
- 22:31Speaker 1: all they shall wax old as a garment, and the
- 22:34Speaker 1: moth shall eat them up. Who is among you that
- 22:37Speaker 1: feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant,
- 22:41Speaker 1: that walketh in darkness and hath no light, Behold, all
- 22:45Speaker 1: ye that kindle fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks,
- 22:50Speaker 1: Walk in the light of your fire, And in the
- 22:52Speaker 1: sparks which ye have kindled, this shall ye have of
- 22:56Speaker 1: mine hand. Ye shall lie down in sorrow. End of
- 23:01Speaker 1: Second Nephi, chapters four to seven.
