- 0:03Creeping night, A right lookout night and ceper got mad and angry eyes,
- 0:08won't look for horrow eze resist any enviable place, slap right across the race.
- 0:17All right, Well, you know this song is from the movie Megan,
- 0:21and it's kind of been popularized by that whole dance category down in the
- 0:26Universal Orlando you know, thriller Fest, horror Fest whatever they would call it
- 0:31down there with the Megans. But I figured, hey, it it's a
- 0:35great song for Halloween twenty twenty three. Also could go with the Nightmare before
- 0:41Christmas because it is the thirtieth anniversary of a movie we all grew up with,
- 0:46right, and so a little bit of Halloween to kick off this episode
- 0:50of the One Like Up with Alex Scatt podcast. I don't usually talk about
- 0:58my own personal story. Sometimes I like to hear from others. But Halloween,
- 1:03this has been a topsy turvy day for thirty two years now, And
- 1:10because as much as I think everybody's in the Halloween spirit, for many years,
- 1:17I was nervous to be because I hated the masks. And today reminds
- 1:23me of a tradition that ended fifteen years ago. When sorry in October nineteen
- 1:30ninety six and my senior year of October two thousand and eight. My dad
- 1:37would always come out on Halloween and pick me up and we go trick or
- 1:41treating, whether it be on my walker, on my crutches, on my
- 1:45skate, door to door in Albertson, New York. Right outside my window,
- 1:49the kid and twenty three is the bus we'd actually take after our trick
- 1:55or treating. But yeah, it was one of those traditions we go door
- 1:59to door, and you know, my dad had wanted Halloween to be fun,
- 2:05as did my mom, and we would carve out envic and we'd carve
- 2:09out these pumpkins year after year and light them up and put them on the
- 2:14windowsill of the apartment of the house in Queens. And to still see those
- 2:19lanterns around Port Washington today and elsewhere reminded me, you know, the traditions
- 2:27are still alive. Even if we don't personally do them. It's fun to
- 2:30see others do them in their own driveways and parking lots and apartment buildings,
- 2:36and that is a way we all kind of stay connected through those traditions.
- 2:43And of course Halloween two thousand and one, you can't not think of their
- 2:49Jeter's home run putting them in November as mister November. But that game started
- 2:54on October thirty first in two thousand and one. If you believe that,
- 3:00remember that. Of course, his whole Diamondback series has been an nostalgia trip.
- 3:05But yeah, Halloween, my dad and Mom and Vic always made it
- 3:07special and the different phases I would go through, whether it would be mister
- 3:14Mestophelis from Cats, or mister Kluzah from the Pink Panther or Eddie Munster of
- 3:21the Monsters, or even when the old stadiums were gone fifteen years ago today,
- 3:29my dad sent me to school, I kid you not, with an
- 3:31rip tombstone that had both the Yankees final season logo and Shay Stadiums final season
- 3:38logo as an homage to their ending in a kind of a Halloween twist to
- 3:45it. Spent a couple of years out of the Ducks Baseball Stadium and actually
- 3:50ran the bases in that costume fifteen years ago. And then as I got
- 3:57older, you know, obviously trick or treating got out the window, but
- 4:00my dad would always buy candy anyway and giving out to the local kids,
- 4:04whether it be in Queens Long Island, even the city, whereever, where
- 4:09wherever we were at. For years we would do that, and of course
- 4:15we did have our fund at the Halloween Parade a few years there actually got
- 4:20on New York won one year that was kind of crazy and fun. And
- 4:26then twenty sixteen, I remember because we were literally on the pathway of the
- 4:30parade getting to see all the ghouls and goblins as they say. And so
- 4:35my dad was on my mind a lot today because of all this stuff we
- 4:39did on Halloween, all the normal things a kid would do, like trick
- 4:44or treating, even though our apartment building East forty fourth Street we trick or
- 4:46treated a lot as well. One year it was on a Sunday. We
- 4:50did that outside my grandmother's house. I remember staying very local for that.
- 4:58And then just the giving back that my dad and mom and want me to
- 5:02do, like we're giving out the treats back to the kids, kind of
- 5:06stuck with me. And there weren't many This year. Port Washington hit out
- 5:12Katie too, so that was a little different. And today it was just
- 5:15a different day overall, and not as an active Halloween as I'm used to,
- 5:23but maybe next year we will. And of course isn't that adulting.
- 5:28I think we find that adulting and adults love Halloween weekend because that's the time
- 5:34when people can get in the Halloween spirit, not the spirit of Halloween Store,
- 5:40but literally the Halloween spirit and b whoever they want to be. And
- 5:46in all the chaos and the turmoil and the craziness of the world, I've
- 5:50got to say, Stone Street on Saturday afternoon at their Spookfest. Spooky Fest
- 5:58really showed me that people are not afraid to still show up to these Halloween
- 6:02things, so not afraid to dress up. Still, it hasn't the Halloween
- 6:05spirit hasn't gotten by us as adults. And that matters because in a crazy
- 6:12world where we don't know what's gonna happen next, in the war in Israel,
- 6:15in a crazy world where we don't know where unfortunately the next mass shooting
- 6:20is, here's a group of people on Stonetree this past Saturday who still showed
- 6:26up, who want to participate in Halloween things and who want to get dressed
- 6:30up and be a part of the action, be part of holiday Halloween weekend
- 6:34and stay in that spirit. And that meant a lot to me too.
- 6:39But no matter how insane it is outside, just look around you, maybe
- 6:46get off the phone for a minute and enjoy the environment around you, which
- 6:51has people literally still having fun and in the spirit of Halloween and in the
- 6:57spirit of mischief and excitement and doing different things. Be more than normal.
- 7:11Now. The other thing about all of this is being of the Halloween spirit.
- 7:15We now turn thanks to Macy's who already lit up their Christmas lights,
- 7:18I feel like we're already in the holiday spirit, and we should be.
- 7:23But as I mentioned to one of my TikTok friends today, Ashley and Okay
- 7:29ashl E and Okay, I said today, this month, this upcoming holiday
- 7:35season is going to be the weirdest because we're all on edge on where that
- 7:42news cycle goes while trying to be in that Thanksgiving mode, in that holiday
- 7:48spirit mode, in that Christmas mode, and that Honiga mode, I mean
- 7:53Hanigah. This year, since the terrorist attacks in Israel, will be very
- 7:56different. We will need those eight days of prayer and the extended light to
- 8:05shine on for those who are kidnapped. And you know how we do that
- 8:09in New York. We don't rip down posters of the kidnapped saying they're missing.
- 8:18We keep them up. We defend those posters as much as we want
- 8:20to defend the people that are currently hostage. See, when you talk about
- 8:28all this, it rolls you up. That's why it's gonna be tough to
- 8:30be in the holiday spirit, in the Christmas spirit. But I think we
- 8:33can. I think we can. I think if anything that's done Tree show
- 8:37me is that people still want to forget the world and escape the world and
- 8:43the news cycle around them and have fun and be in the spirit of fun.
- 8:48And isn't that what the holiday spirit? Of fun and togetherness and peace
- 8:54and really peace and love and harmony. That's what the message of holidays,
- 9:00see the Christmas season is. I'm looking forward to a very busy Thanksgiving Day,
- 9:05I'm looking forward to a very busy Christmas. And I'm looking forward to
- 9:09continuing some traditions that my dad and I had, and may be starting new
- 9:13ones. I love you, Papa, maybe starting new ones as well.
- 9:24May this be the season that we say we will not be afraid. May
- 9:33this be the holiday season that we now say we will stand as what.
- 9:37We will enjoy each other's company, we will love on each other. We
- 9:41will have harmony, we will have faith and peace that God's got this under
- 9:48his control. What do I mean that maybe we can say this is the
- 9:58holiday season, we don't let the evil forces break us. They haven't broken
- 10:05us before, but this feels like an on edge moment where we are about
- 10:09to be broken. And let's utilize this Thanksgiving, this holiday season, this
- 10:16Christmas season, this season of lights to say we will keep the light up
- 10:24in this world if it's if we're the last people to do it. We
- 10:28will not let evil overtake this holiday Christmas season. We will not let evil
- 10:39dictate our always exciting holiday season. We won't even let the hatred that we're
- 10:45seeing on college campuses right now dictate how we are to spend our holiday season.
- 10:52We won't let those who decide to disgustingly shoot up a bowling alley say
- 11:03you are now in control of our lives. We won't let that happen.
- 11:07You know why, because that's the intent of evil, is to take us
- 11:11over. And you know what Halloween is. Halloween is actually meant to ward
- 11:18off the evil spirits. So we could take this holiday to not only have
- 11:22fun and mischief and everything like that, but to ward off the evil spirits
- 11:26of the world that we can make it a brighter holiday season and pray for
- 11:31those that are currently held hostage, and pray for peace in the world,
- 11:37and pray we don't go into World War three, and pray that this horrible
- 11:41conflict in Gaza doesn't seep into these veins of our fellow New York City residence,
- 11:50of the point where there's civil clashes here night All hallows Eve is the
- 12:03is the time to ward off evil. And when I think about it in
- 12:09the adult terms that means and the podcast terms that means. By warding off
- 12:18evil, by having the Halloweens fair, we're literally warding off the evil of
- 12:24the world. And doesn't that give us a cleansing heading into this beautiful November
- 12:33and December months where it's Christmas, where it's Thanksgiving, where it's everything wrapped
- 12:39up in one where it's more than the k jeweler ads, or even more
- 12:45than the Lexus to Remember ads December to Remember ads, where it's really just
- 12:50a time to be at one with each other. This will be my first
- 12:56holiday season with my fiance, first time in our five year religion we can
- 13:03say we are engaged. It took us a while to get here, but
- 13:09I'm excited to spend my holiday season with my fiance, with my mom,
- 13:13with Vic, with Gabby's family, and of course we will honor my dad
- 13:20the best we can every holiday. Right now, I'm okay, Like I
- 13:24thought about my dad a lot today because of his traditions that he brought to
- 13:28Halloween and the trick of treating that he had me do, and the knocking
- 13:31on doors that we did to get all that candy that was so special.
- 13:35I really love that. And it happened twenty seven years ago today, nineteen
- 13:43ninety six, my first fall. That's when it all started in Albertson,
- 13:48New York. And so we need to utilize this Halloween spirit we're in tonight,
- 13:58or if you're in tonight, and say, let's carry there's warding off
- 14:03of evil into our bigger holiday season, our Christmas season, our holier holiday
- 14:13season, because I think, God bless it, we need a holier holiday
- 14:20season than we've ever had before. I can feel that in my bones.
- 14:26And so if you feel confused and uneasy heading the holiday season, I don't
- 14:33blame you. I think everybody is. But that's where we can take that
- 14:37uneasiness and turn into unity in that Christmas holiday, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, even
- 14:46New Year spirit of joy, love, peace and harmony. And that's the
- 14:54best way we can ward off evil. Here on the Alex Spirit podcast Network.
- 15:00Linked to my conversation with lud Terminello and La Clippers broadcast legend. He's
- 15:07got a star on the Hall of Hollywood Walk of Fame. He's a Hall
- 15:11of Fame broadcaster. Ralph Lawler join us to talk about his new book Bingo
- 15:18forty Years in the NBA. You can find that on the link below,
- 15:22and most stay tune. What offers we got from fanatics. And I know
- 15:31there's not out coming, the episodes to come out. I gotta think of
- 15:33some ideas as we hit the holiday season. But I know it's only November
- 15:37first, but I think the lights at Macy's bringing us out of the Halloween
- 15:41world into the Christmas world already is what the nation is, what this city
- 15:48needs right now. And if you see the Macy's lights already, share it
- 15:56on your feed, bring that light into people's feeds that are injected with the
- 16:00horrible videos in Gaza, with the horror that we're seeing from Maine. Interject
- 16:07your feeds with light. We've warded off evil in Halloween. Now let's bring
- 16:12light into the world once again. And that is how we can win.
- 16:21This is a spiritual, cultural even I guess you would say ideological battle we're
- 16:27dealing with. But I think if we can collectively bring light into the world,
- 16:37that can make a difference, and God will notice. Here on,
- 16:42God will notice. Have a great night, and we'll talk to you soon.
