- 0:00So autism and gluten. Can a gluten free diet actually
- 0:03help you? Hey guys, welcome back to the
- 0:12apps we world. My name is Dan, I have autism,
- 0:14ADHD, OCD, and dyslexia, and I make weekly videos all about
- 0:18this kind of stuff. So if you're near around here

- 0:32content. Guys, what's going on?
- 0:35It is chilly. I put this video on because I'm
- 0:36so cold. It's like freezing here in the
- 0:39uki know what's going on? Like snowmageddon or something.
- 0:42It's going to be crazy. Anyway, about that, I wanted to
- 0:45just talk about autism and gluten because there's a lot of
- 0:48controversy and there's a lot of conversation about it and I
- 0:50wanted to kind of really just try and talk about it, hash it
- 0:54out and see what's what. So the question is really, can
- 0:57gluten free really help with autism on how people, you know,
- 1:01with an autism spectrum disorder.
- 1:03Now there as a common knowledge base idea, lots of people
- 1:06recommend going gluten free when you're on the autism spectrum.
- 1:10Right. And people like, why?
- 1:11Why would they do that? So in terms of reasons for this,
- 1:14there's a kind of mixed response.
- 1:15OK, So the first you might hear is kind of like a fantasy or a
- 1:20misconception that gluten free can cure autism, which is the
- 1:23biggest load of rubbish I've ever heard in my life.
- 1:25There is no such thing as a cure for autism and especially not
- 1:28from cutting out gluten from your diet.
- 1:29It's just not going to happen. It's not a thing that happens.
- 1:32So yeah, that's not real. But the other thing is that, you
- 1:36know, the other reason that people do it is because people
- 1:39in the office spectrum have GI disorders, which is
- 1:42gastrointestinal disorders like IBS, which is irritable bowel
- 1:45syndrome. Now keeping this in mind it is
- 1:49found that gluten may irritate gasoline national intestinal
- 1:54conditions more so than if you didn't include in your diet.
- 1:56So basically you know if you think about how gluten gluten is
- 2:01kind of like this this spiky kind of stuff that appears in
- 2:04things like bread and and because it's it's the way of
- 2:07forming structure in bread and it's in everything and it
- 2:09happens as a it's a byproduct of the production of bread in
- 2:12certain formats. Well, the traditional format
- 2:14production of bread and and that's basically it.
- 2:17But there's gluten in all kinds of stuff now because we make so
- 2:19many things in the same process. But saying that, I'm to come
- 2:23across an autistic person who doesn't have a GI disorder like
- 2:26IBS or some other kind of, you know, issue, national issue
- 2:29guys. You know, I'm talking about if
- 2:30you have a GI disorder and IBS disorder and you're on the
- 2:34autism spectrum, pop me, come down below and say me, I get it
- 2:37done. I totally understand what you're
- 2:38saying because this is the key to kind of like where we're
- 2:42going with this. So I have tried eating gluten
- 2:46free gluten free food versus non gluten free food.
- 2:49The only difference that I found with gluten free food versus non
- 2:52gluten free food is that it made me feel thinner.
- 2:55I don't know if that's a real word say, but like normally when
- 2:58I'm eating I get quite bloated when I eat after I eat because
- 3:00of IBS and things like that. But when I'm eating gluten free
- 3:04stuff I don't get as bloated. Now is this a mind of a matter
- 3:07thing or is it just that that's how it goes right.
- 3:10I am going to be doing a video where I just I go gluten free
- 3:13for like a week or five days to kind of give it a full test.
- 3:17But in in general I wanted to clear up the kind of myths
- 3:20around this. So a lot of people think that
- 3:22cutting gluten out your diet if you're autistic is going to make
- 3:25you magically like, yeah, I don't know, be cured from
- 3:29autism, whatever the heck that means.
- 3:31But as well, a lot of people think that going gluten free can
- 3:34help calm you down if you have ADHD.
- 3:35Now I'll tell you this, I have ADHD and I have had gluten free
- 3:39food and I'm a vegan. So a lot of the food is gluten
- 3:42free and a lot of the time you're just eating fruit and
- 3:44veg, so you know, they don't have gluten in anyway.
- 3:46And you know, my nothing counts me down like nothing.
- 3:51You know, if you eat gluten free, it's still carbohydrate,
- 3:53it's still sugar that enters your body and you're still going
- 3:55to be hyperactive. So you know, can can gluten
- 3:58actually do anything miraclely wise?
- 4:00No, not at all. There's no actual real benefit
- 4:02from it. The only real thing I can think
- 4:03about is if you are a celiac, which means that you have
- 4:06Celiac's disease or you're allergic to gluten, basically,
- 4:09then obviously getting out gluten from your diet is going
- 4:11to make you so much more healthier because you know,
- 4:15you're not going to be affected by this thing that's causing you
- 4:17pain or distress. But in terms of can this help
- 4:20cure autism? No, not so ridiculous.
- 4:22It's ridiculous. But can it help you with your GI
- 4:24issues? Well, maybe I'm going to do
- 4:26that. I'm going to do that for a week.
- 4:27I think, to try it out just to see if autism, GI disorders are
- 4:32kind of, like, linked to gluten at all.
- 4:34Because I know that. I don't know why, I don't know
- 4:36what it is, but like, issues with people on the Austin
- 4:38spectrum is really common. So I want to test out like just
- 4:42cannot gluten for at least five days and seeing if I get any
- 4:44like positive results from doing that.
- 4:46And you guys, you know, have to hit that subscribe button.
- 4:49So you're along for the journey with me and we'll see how it
- 4:52goes. But in terms of that, have you
- 4:54tried gluten free diets? What is your story on it?
- 4:57Pop it in a comment down below. I'd love to hear your stories on
- 4:59this because I'm just one guy and you guys and everybody, so
