- 0:00Welcome to Rick and Matt Michelle Chick.
- 0:02I'm Matt Michelle Chick. And I'm Rick, how you doing this
- 0:05afternoon? I'm well, how are you?
- 0:09Well, I know that I, I don't know what you had on the agenda
- 0:12this time around, but boy, we've had some celebrity passings that
- 0:15we definitely want to touch on at least a little bit.
- 0:17So I don't know how you want to start this podcast.
- 0:20Usually you have a few ideas. So I'm here to listen and then I
- 0:23will chat back at you. Oh, you're not here to listen?
- 0:27Yes, I did want to touch on that because let's see, Ozzy Osbourne
- 0:33passed away at the age of 76, which is weird to me because
- 0:36wasn't he just at that farewell concert on July 5th?
- 0:40And he looked pretty good. I mean, all things considered,
- 0:44don't get me wrong, he has like some he.
- 0:47Had Parkin, Yeah, I had Parkinson's.
- 0:49Amazing that. Right, but he looked pretty darn
- 0:51good. Well, he didn't, I mean, he was
- 0:54on his throne, so he wasn't moving.
- 0:55He wasn't, you know, he's like, no, I mean, I think if you, if
- 0:59you could not that we wanted Ozzy to pass away.
- 1:01But if, you know, if you couldn't, you couldn't have
- 1:04scripted a better farewell. Like you couldn't have scripted
- 1:07it like literally. And I saw videos.
- 1:10I wasn't there, but I saw videos of Mama I'm coming home and all
- 1:14these great songs at Ozzy does and so and so literally you get
- 1:19to go out on your own terms. Not a not a bad life if you
- 1:23think about. It I was think I was kind of
- 1:25thinking the same thing You get to go out doing the thing that
- 1:28you love kind of, you know, not just homesick wasting away in a
- 1:32bed the last. I mean, I, I was thinking about
- 1:35wow. I mean, I don't think you could
- 1:37have scripted it any better than that.
- 1:40I've often talked about if I was going to go in my sleep, there's
- 1:42three things I think I want. I want to go peacefully, you
- 1:47know, like in my sleep number 2, if I'm going to pass away, I
- 1:50want to pass away on the air. Like literally I'm talking and
- 1:52then there's a big thud. Big thud.
- 1:55I'm going no, that would be traumatic for the rest.
- 1:58Or, or having SEX. So that's it.
- 2:00Those are my three. I, I looked at those are my
- 2:02three options of, of my last, my final days on this planet.
- 2:08So for Ozzy, doing what he's loved, loved to do, you got to
- 2:12give you got to give the guy credit.
- 2:14And, and man, the Facebook today has just been nothing, nothing
- 2:18but Ozzy tributes. And are you a are you a big Ozzy
- 2:23fan? Not really.
- 2:26I do like Crazy Train, who doesn't love that song, but I'm
- 2:30not a huge but I'm not a huge metal music lover fan unless
- 2:36it's a rock ballad. I'm a sucker.
- 2:38I'm a woman, so you know I love a good rock ballad which.
- 2:41Mama coming home is a Mama I'm coming home.
- 2:43That was a massive. I mean, that one's good, but.
- 2:46I mean, he's. Just never been one of the
- 2:50musicians that I've listened to. I think that might be because
- 2:54growing up my aunt was always, it's satanic music, it's the
- 2:59devil's music. And so I think I just kind of
- 3:02steered clear of it a little bit.
- 3:04Maybe subconsciously, I don't know because I don't necessarily
- 3:08believe that, but I think maybe that kind of got in my head.
- 3:12Yeah, same with the kids, got the same got the same rap and
- 3:15Led Zeppelin and all of them. I look at Oh, close Your Eyes
- 3:18Forever with Lita Ford. That's an Aussie song.
- 3:21They do it. I do like, I do like that song,
- 3:23yeah. Yeah, that's a great song.
- 3:24For me, Shot in the Dark is my #1 Aussie song.
- 3:27If you're asking, you know what my Aussie song is, I know
- 3:29everybody's going to go crazy train and all the other three
- 3:32kids. Well, and of course, you've got
- 3:33Iron Man from Black Sabbath. My, my recollection, I did not
- 3:37know it at the time, but I was probably 10 years old and my
- 3:40stepbrother, when we moved back to with my father, there was a
- 3:44bunch of step kids as well as us.
- 3:46And I remember smoke rolling. I remember smoke weed, the smell
- 3:50of smoke weed from my stepbrother Ramon.
- 3:54And of course it was Iron Man Black Sabbath while they're
- 3:56smoking dope downstairs. So for a 10 year old, that was
- 3:59one of my vivid memories of growing up with some Ozzy
- 4:03Osbour. I did not know it was Ozzy at
- 4:04the time. I just knew it was Black Sabbath
- 4:06and then and yeah, I was like, it's like an amazing career.
- 4:13And I was thinking and I thought part of the podcast we talked
- 4:16about is, are you affected by celebrity passings?
- 4:19Because we just had we, we just had what, Theo?
- 4:23From Malcolm Jamal Warner at the age of 54 while on vacation.
- 4:28In Costa Rica and he's, again, he's the, I'm a year older than
- 4:31he is. And, and we grew up on the Cosby
- 4:35show. So it's like these are, these
- 4:37are right in our, I guess these are right in our generation.
- 4:39These are right in our wheelhouses.
- 4:41So, but have you ever, I look back and I'm like, I there have
- 4:46been a ton of passings where I felt, oh, that's sad or oh, I
- 4:49can't believe that person passed away.
- 4:51Now there are people that cry, like literally cry.
- 4:57So have you ever for a celebrity that has passed?
- 5:00Have you actually cried? Probably George Michael.
- 5:06That was a big one, yeah. That one hit me.
- 5:08I loved his music growing up. And that one was really, you
- 5:12know, it was Christmas Day, and it was just kind of shocking in
- 5:16that sense. I remember when Michael Jackson
- 5:20passed, we were on an airplane coming back from Disneyland, our
- 5:23family vacation. And we were in the airport.
- 5:25And, you know, they had the TV monitors on, no volume,
- 5:28obviously, but it was on CNN. And the little ticker along the
- 5:32bottom of the screen said Michael Jackson dies.
- 5:34And at first, I thought it was some kind of weird joke, but
- 5:37it's like it's on CNN. What kind of joke is this going
- 5:40to be? So it's just weird things like
- 5:42that. You don't expect Michael Jackson
- 5:45to pass away or George Michael because they're all younger and
- 5:49in our minds, they're going to live forever.
- 5:52They are our idols or part of our youth.
- 5:55And so then that makes the reality of our dying, well,
- 6:01real. And it could.
- 6:02Happen to any one of us? Yeah.
- 6:04Right. But in our minds, we're not
- 6:06going to die tomorrow. I mean, we're just not let's.
- 6:09Hope let's, let's hope not. But I was, it was.
- 6:14I was just trying to yeah, for. Because we were just too young
- 6:17for Elvis. I know when Elvis passed away.
- 6:20So. But that was. 77 I remember her
- 6:23crying, yeah. Yeah, but but I was 7, so I
- 6:26mean, yeah, I knew who Elvis was, but you don't it.
- 6:28Doesn't emotionally touch. You.
- 6:30Yeah, same with John Lennon. I was 10 when John Lennon passed
- 6:35away. So.
- 6:35And I always tell people like, you know, well, The Beatles are
- 6:38the greatest rock band of all time are The Beach Boys.
- 6:40Brian Wilson recently passed away.
- 6:41These are all amazing. But I wasn't emotionally, I
- 6:45guess, affected. I mean, I know the music.
- 6:46I like the music, but it wasn't like I was just like my whole
- 6:49being wasn't wrapped up in so these celebrities if it makes
- 6:55sense for me, a big one. I I don't know if I would cry,
- 7:00but I'm a big Michael J Fox fan, so and I know he's got
- 7:04Parkinson's. Christopher Reeve.
- 7:05I mean ton of these for I was going to.
- 7:07Say, did the original Superman just no, I mean.
- 7:11That's that's why I always I I'm always curious.
- 7:13Like it's like I feel, oh, you know, you see it and you go, oh,
- 7:17that's, you know, that's sad. But I can't recall any time
- 7:20where I ever broke down in tears.
- 7:23I guess I mean over my own dog or a family member.
- 7:26Sure. I've I've cried and then that
- 7:30always think it's weird when you don't cry when you want to cry
- 7:33and you don't cry, everybody else around you is crying and
- 7:35you're not crying. Like Oh my God am IA sociopath.
- 7:37Well, no, I mean just people cry differently.
- 7:42And sometimes in that moment I think people are.
- 7:48It's either a defense mechanism or it, it hasn't really hit you
- 7:53with that reality, even though people around you are crying or
- 7:57upset. But in your mind it just isn't
- 8:00real. It it still isn't real for you
- 8:03at that moment. And I, and the good news, you
- 8:06know, to know that you're healthy is that I'm not a
- 8:08sociopath. When my foster dad passed away,
- 8:11absolutely. I cried when my foster mom
- 8:13passed away. People that I had really deep
- 8:15emotional ties to, definitely. I do recall one of my favorite
- 8:19stories to tell people is when I was 8 years old watching Archie
- 8:24Bunker, All in the Family. My foster mom loved to watch
- 8:28Archie Bunker and All in the Family and Edith passed away on
- 8:33the TV show. The character passed away and I
- 8:36was 8 years old at the time and I thought she literally passed
- 8:40away. Her name, Jean Stapleton is the
- 8:41actress. But I thought she passed away.
- 8:44And then 20 years later, I'm watching TV and I'm like, what
- 8:47the hell? Yeah, there's Edith.
- 8:48She just quit the show. But yeah, but when you're 8
- 8:51years old, you don't correlate death.
- 8:54I did not correlate. I thought, oh, this person
- 8:56really passed away in real life at 8 years old.
- 8:58So that was my, I think my first recollection of some somebody
- 9:01passing away. I know it's kind of funny that
- 9:04it's ATV character, but. And then and then I saw a
- 9:07reunion where her and Archie, Carol Connor and they were on
- 9:10like Rosie or something like that.
- 9:12I'm like, son of a bitch. She's alive.
- 9:14And then and then she didn't even have the accent.
- 9:17You know how she sounded all Ding baddie.
- 9:19Yes, right, She doesn't even. She doesn't even sound that.
- 9:22She don't even sound like that and she's this amazing.
- 9:25Even more mad about that I was like and.
- 9:27You discover that she's this amazing Broadway actress and
- 9:31vocalist and all this like what? What?
- 9:33Anyway, childhood destroyed. So yeah, the the the sad passing
- 9:37of I feel like of, of Theo, you know, Malcolm, I loved him on
- 9:41the resident. I mean, I he had a resurgent in
- 9:43his. The cool thing about him, he had
- 9:44a resurgence in his career. Right.
- 9:46He was just on 911. My daughter Shaylee makes me
- 9:49watch this show, and he was just on this last season of it.
- 9:52And when I said, oh, look, it's Malcolm Jamal Warner from The
- 9:56Cosby Show, she had no idea what I was talking about.
- 9:59No clue. And I think of all the kids, I
- 10:02mean, they're all still doing stuff.
- 10:03But he's really, I mean really acting still.
- 10:07Right. He's kind of maintained his
- 10:08career since the Total show ended with various projects.
- 10:13Yeah, he did a 90s sitcom on the the UPN network.
- 10:16I can't figure it off the top of my head, but it was kind of a
- 10:18guy dude show kind of thing. So.
- 10:20Oh, oh, it's called Malcolm and Eddie.
- 10:23Yes, I was going to say Malcolm in the Middle, but that's the
- 10:25other Malcolm and. Eddie right.
- 10:27So I mean so yeah, these are these are two big you know,
- 10:30childhood for us growing up, you really you really feel it.
- 10:34But I again, it goes back to are you going to you know, are you
- 10:38going to cry? And normally in radio, we do big
- 10:40tributes. So, you know, so the minute that
- 10:44I was on the air today and the minute that I heard that Ozzy
- 10:47had passed away, I ran over to the other building and let Paul
- 10:49know, Hey, Ozzy sadly passed away and it's time to get out
- 10:52the Ozzy Osbourne song montage. So well, that's kind of what
- 10:57it's kind of what kind of what we do at at radio.
- 10:59But I remember big ones, you know, Johnny Cash passed in a
- 11:02way that was a big deal being on the air.
- 11:05Different things, different things like that, Whitney, like
- 11:08you said, George Michael, Prince, Michael Jackson, these
- 11:11are all big from our big from our childhood.
- 11:14So again, just to see these, these artists pass away.
- 11:17And it does, like you said, it makes your, your own mortality
- 11:21in, in your, in your. And I also have said this
- 11:23interesting enough too, is it doesn't matter how much money
- 11:26you have, like you could be a billionaire, you could be Elon
- 11:29Musk, you can be, you can be Jeff Bezos.
- 11:32And you, I don't care what you got, you're not going to out
- 11:36race time or you're not going to out race.
- 11:38Steve Jobs is a great example. That's what I was just going to
- 11:41say. Look at Steve Jobs.
- 11:42He had cancer and no amount of money could help him in the end.
- 11:46Yeah, No, Madam. And, and it truly is how you
- 11:49live. Like you have to, I feel like
- 11:52you have to be, you know, you have to acknowledge that, you
- 11:55know, you know that this is finite.
- 11:58This life is finite. So what can, what can you do on
- 12:01the planet to do at least a little bit good before you leave
- 12:04the planet? So that's why I've never
- 12:06understood. I've never understood hate and
- 12:08anger. And like when you see people
- 12:10online that are that are totally going at each other, I'm like,
- 12:13Oh my gosh, you're 85 years old. I mean, what?
- 12:16Like your days are numbered. Why are you sitting here on the
- 12:18Internet fighting with some unknown person about politics,
- 12:21right? But maybe that's all that they
- 12:23have at the end of the day. Maybe that's that's all they
- 12:25have. I don't.
- 12:25I just don't find those things worth it.
- 12:28Getting into an argument about what what side you're on or what
- 12:32what you believe. Yeah, which is kind of like why
- 12:35I decided to try to start a nonprofit because in my mind,
- 12:41I'm like, OK, how do I want the last half of my life to look?
- 12:45You know, yeah, I'm done raising all these kids and they're great
- 12:48people, but what do I want? My, like, true legacy besides my
- 12:53kids, because they are your true legacy that you leave behind who
- 12:57they are as people. I'm.
- 12:59Trouble. What do you want?
- 13:02What do I want? Logan is a good kid.
- 13:06He listens to our podcast. I need a second.
- 13:09I needed a second kid. Shouldn't have got the
- 13:12vasectomy. I need a second.
- 13:14No, I've got I've got my stepson.
- 13:16I got Logan. They're doing good.
- 13:17I'm joking, but. Yeah.
- 13:19So that in my mind that, you know, was my thought, like, what
- 13:22do I want to contribute to this Earth or this planet in some
- 13:27way? Like, sure, it might not matter
- 13:29to other other people, but it's going to matter to me or it
- 13:32might matter to one person or two people.
- 13:35And hopefully they'll live on. And that's how I'm going to live
- 13:39on. Does that make sense?
- 13:40I mean, I don't want to get morbid, but to me it's like
- 13:44it's, it's I feel like all the, the great stories that you carry
- 13:49everybody. I there was a great a great
- 13:52newspaper feature when I was a kid growing up in the Lewiston
- 13:56Morning Tribune. And it was called Everybody has
- 13:58a story. And this guy would go out his
- 14:00name with, yeah, I'm not crying. You were right.
- 14:06You want to drink all my coffee? Oh, my coffee, my water's
- 14:09upstairs. Oh.
- 14:10No. That's all right.
- 14:13Anyway, it was called Everybody Has a Story.
- 14:17And I thought it was fascinating, even as a as a kid
- 14:19growing up reading that it was once a week article.
- 14:22And the guy, the reporter would pick somebody random out of the
- 14:25phone book and then he would interview.
- 14:28Yeah. And then he would interview.
- 14:29Yeah. He'd just call him out of the
- 14:30phone book. Like you'd go through the phone
- 14:32book and just say Joe, Joe Smith and he'd call Joe Smith and then
- 14:35he'd get Joe Smith's story. And the, the, the feature was
- 14:38everybody, Everybody has a story.
- 14:40And. So.
- 14:42You ever think about like I for me, I think one of the reasons
- 14:45why I wrote my book that I did about being a foster kid, about
- 14:49my foster parents. That was so important to me that
- 14:52what, like you said, what happens to what happens to those
- 14:54stories? Right.
- 14:57Yeah. I mean, our kids aren't going to
- 15:00tell them. So, yeah, you have to get them
- 15:04out. You have to tell them.
- 15:05You have to hope that somebody that you made a difference in
- 15:08their life goes on and talks about you.
- 15:11Which? Is funny that you say like
- 15:13everybody has a story because when the kids were little
- 15:15growing up, we'd see homeless people and they would say, oh,
- 15:18look at that homeless guy and I would say there's a reason that
- 15:21he's homeless. Everybody has a story.
- 15:24You know, they're not just homeless just because.
- 15:26So that was something I tried to teach them early on in life.
- 15:30And we had that hang. On are you getting?
- 15:34Are you getting an Amazon delivery?
- 15:36Yes, UPS. It's UPS.
- 15:40Yeah. Yeah, it's it's it was funny.
- 15:44I was talking to to Patty about that this morning, about now.
- 15:49I lost my train of thought. Thanks, dog.
- 15:50We were what we were talking about.
- 15:53Yeah. I mean, it's like in 100 years,
- 15:57are you going to even be, you know, you want to, don't you
- 15:59want something remembered of you, I guess.
- 16:01Yeah, great. It'd be nice like, and, and I
- 16:05don't know, I mean your own, I mean, I mean, I don't know about
- 16:08your, your kids, but but my kids are so are still young enough
- 16:12that I don't know. I don't, I don't know if there's
- 16:14any sentimentality towards me. Does that mean, you know, if I,
- 16:17if I die tomorrow, do you, do you feel like if you died
- 16:20tomorrow, would your, would your kids miss you or do you think I
- 16:26don't know? Have you ever wanted to see your
- 16:27funeral or, or do you want to see how people react if you're
- 16:29gone? Yes, I have.
- 16:33And Shaylee, our youngest, I have asked her.
- 16:36I mean she's 19 now. This was a few years ago and I I
- 16:40don't even remember how we got on the subject of death, but I
- 16:43asked her would you miss me if I was dead?
- 16:47And she just said, well, you're just be dead, like, and she just
- 16:51had no, like, emotional attachment to the thought that I
- 16:56could be forever gone, right? And she doesn't.
- 16:59Like, you'd just be dead, you know, like, it wasn't that big
- 17:02of a deal, so. I think, I think the impact
- 17:06comes later. Even though, even though our,
- 17:08even though our kids talk tough, I, I, you know, even though our
- 17:13kids talk tough, like, oh, you know, if you were gone, I'd, you
- 17:15know, but I, I don't know, you would like to think that you've
- 17:18made, even with your own kids, you've made some, some impact.
- 17:22Right. I think the three older boys
- 17:25would miss me and. And that would have an effect on
- 17:29them and their lives, especially now that Benjamin is about to
- 17:32become a parent. Yeah.
- 17:34You know, then he's he's really realizing which this is a funny
- 17:39story. So they came over this last
- 17:41weekend when Matthew was home. Not to get off the subject, but
- 17:46and he he and Haley, his wife were talking about how I cried
- 17:50at his middle school graduation and we had watched videos of him
- 17:54growing up. And it's funny because he just
- 17:57has like this blank stare when somebody is asking him a
- 18:00question and he doesn't answer. And they got the biggest kick
- 18:04out of that because he just wasn't the brightest bulb in the
- 18:09pack, basically. And so it kind of clicked.
- 18:13He and his wife were talking, and he's like, oh, now I know
- 18:17why my mom was crying at my middle school graduation.
- 18:19It's like, yeah, because I mean, there's a happy you, you.
- 18:22We made it. Now we just got to get through
- 18:24high school, you know, like, so those things don't become clear
- 18:30to you, I think, until you have your own children or you go
- 18:33through something similar to make it really real or resonate
- 18:37with you because otherwise you're just like, and my mom was
- 18:40just crying at my middle school graduation.
- 18:42No big deal. Well, I think that what's
- 18:45interesting is I've always said anytime I've discovered
- 18:47somebody, especially having their first child, and you've
- 18:50heard me even talk about this. If a child change period,
- 18:55period, your, your life, your life, even even with our buddy
- 18:59who's a narcissist. No, we have a buddy who's a
- 19:02narcissist. It's OK, he's a narcissist.
- 19:04We love him, we love him dearly. But when his daughter was born
- 19:08and I told him, I warned him, I said when that daughter comes
- 19:11along, when that baby comes along, you're not the center of
- 19:14the universe. And you know, I'll be shocked if
- 19:16you, you know, if you are when, when you and same with you have
- 19:19you have 4 kids. But when that first child comes
- 19:22along, your universe resets and now you age yourself by your
- 19:27kids. You're not aging by you aging.
- 19:30You're looking at your kid like you're going, Oh, my kids 30 now
- 19:32my kids 35. My kids are my my kid, my kid.
- 19:35I'm a grand. No, I'm going to be a
- 19:37grandparent. I mean, you start seeing the
- 19:39your life through the lens of other of those people.
- 19:43It's absolutely fascinating to me.
- 19:44It's absolutely fascinating. And, and I always find it and I
- 19:48always find it interesting that even the most narcissistic me,
- 19:52me, me, me, me, me person, once they have that first kid, if
- 19:56they're if, if they're, if in their hearts of heart, if
- 19:59they're good, they'll flip on a dime and that kid becomes their
- 20:02life. Right, but a lot of times it
- 20:04doesn't. It just depends.
- 20:07I'm always, I'm always amazed. I'm always amazed on Facebook
- 20:10and I'm still on the content creator universe that we live
- 20:13in. And, and I love when people say
- 20:16I'm never going to have kids, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 20:19And you see their, you see their Facebook to where it's all
- 20:21party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party.
- 20:24Then the baby comes and suddenly it's this incredible shift of
- 20:28life to where not now, all eyes. I have a friend she's in, she
- 20:33lives in Indiana. And up until her son was born,
- 20:36it was her two dogs, like all the time.
- 20:38And I'd see, I would see George and I would see Finley all the
- 20:42time. Suddenly, when Riley was born,
- 20:45guess what I'm like, Are the dogs still with us?
- 20:48Did we get rid of the dogs? What happened?
- 20:50Yeah. Where's the?
- 20:50Dogs, you know where are the dogs?
- 20:52Because that from that moment on and he's like, oh, hey, Riley
- 20:56and I never, I never saw the dogs again.
- 20:58And now, and now they have a daughter too.
- 21:00So I Finley passed away. I do know if Finley passed away,
- 21:03but George is still with him. But it still made me laugh that
- 21:07up until that moment it was all dog.
- 21:10And then suddenly, oh, now it's suddenly nothing but kid.
- 21:14And it really changes you. So, Benjamin, this is going.
- 21:17This is going to change, Benjamin.
- 21:20Yeah. It changed my life.
- 21:22You know, not that I was ever that way, but it did change it
- 21:25to where you're not. So me, me, me.
- 21:28Everything you do is for your kid.
- 21:31Right. I've always talked, I've always
- 21:33talked about going to major market radio.
- 21:35Logan is the reason why he didn't go to Major Market radio
- 21:37because it was like I wanted to be near him and so I've made
- 21:42choices based on his location. Right.
- 21:45It's the same reason why I didn't want to move up the
- 21:47radial ladder and drag my kids all over the country and instead
- 21:52just be part time in Yakima because this is where all our
- 21:55family are. They grew up right next door to
- 21:59grandma and grandpa. So, you know, it's a choice that
- 22:02you make. And I gave up that goal to get
- 22:07to a major market like you did for them so that they could have
- 22:10a better life. It's just things you do.
- 22:12And you look back and you, you, you, it's like you just can't
- 22:17have any regrets. I know it's hard.
- 22:19A lot of people do that. Like, oh, I could have, I could
- 22:21have, would have, should have. And I have always felt things
- 22:24fall into place for a reason. I don't, you know, I definitely
- 22:28don't, I don't believe some higher powers moving things
- 22:30around. I just believe that in the end,
- 22:32things, things work out the way they're supposed to work out.
- 22:35And then it, it's up to you yourself, your own personal
- 22:38attitude about how you, yeah, how you handle all these, all
- 22:42these different things. For me, for me growing up poor,
- 22:47I'm just happy to be where I'm at today.
- 22:48I could not have. And I'm not even, I'm not, I'm,
- 22:51I'm middle class. I'm, you know, but, but I also
- 22:55look at all that I've got and, and realize how thankful I am
- 23:00because, I mean, all I ever want to do was able to buy some comic
- 23:04books and have a ripple over my head.
- 23:06Well, I, I achieved that. So and so coming from poverty,
- 23:11coming from way behind, because remember, we're spread like we
- 23:13joke about, we're spreading. We sprinted from behind.
- 23:16It wasn't given it to us like people that we knew that were
- 23:18just born into it. Right.
- 23:20We're a -1000% compared to people, other people.
- 23:25So it's like, so when I look at, you know, when I look at my life
- 23:28and I'm and I'm squarely in the middle class and it's like, oh,
- 23:33but wouldn't you wanted to be rich and all that?
- 23:35Well, that was, those weren't the cards that were dealt, but I
- 23:38made do with what I was dealt with to the best of my ability.
- 23:42And I think that's all you can at the end of the day, that's
- 23:44all you can really do. I'm super excited for for
- 23:46Benjamin and Haley. I think it's, I mean, it just
- 23:48changes their it just changes your perspective.
- 23:51Oh, yeah. I would like to think if you
- 23:53have kids, you become a better human.
- 23:55Great. Which he's already like an
- 23:57exceptional little human. I mean, he's an adult now.
- 24:00I shouldn't say little, but he's going to make an exceptional
- 24:03dad. My friend, when she found out
- 24:06that they were having a kid, she said, like I couldn't think of
- 24:10any perfect two people to have a kid.
- 24:13They're going to be the best parents.
- 24:16And I think as his parent myself, that is probably the
- 24:20utmost compliment ever is knowing that somebody thinks
- 24:25your child is going to be the best parent because of who he is
- 24:29as a person. So I feel like I did my job.
- 24:32I did something right so well and and and.
- 24:35When you hear and that's, and that is part of that, that
- 24:38legacy that lives on. I remember years ago, I'd gotten
- 24:41an inbox message from my Facebook from a friend that I
- 24:44went to high school with and Logan was working at the Dollar
- 24:47Tree in Clarkston. And and you know, my son is so
- 24:50cynical and you know, he, he, he's never seen, you know, you
- 24:54can't have, I mean, you just can't have A and at least with
- 24:56me, he doesn't give me, he doesn't give me a he's always,
- 24:59you know, very sarcastic, very sarcastic.
- 25:02And so I got this nice letter from this gal who was in line at
- 25:07Dollar Tree and goes, hey, by the way, I ran into Logan at
- 25:09Dollar Tree. What he was the kindest, nicest.
- 25:14And he goes, I saw him over there helping a little old lady
- 25:16pick out a birthday card or something while he was on.
- 25:19Now, if I talk to Logan about that.
- 25:21He's like, I didn't do that. I didn't.
- 25:22Do that, yes. I hate old people.
- 25:25So if Shaylee would like, yeah, Shaylee.
- 25:26Would totally. Deny something like.
- 25:28That right, he denies it. He's like, you know, but but for
- 25:31me, when I got that letter, that was the greatest feeling,
- 25:33knowing that, oh, I raised AI, raised a good human being.
- 25:36Even though he won't show it to me, won't show it to me, he does
- 25:41show it to other people. And so that you, you, you like,
- 25:45OK, I, I did the job, at least I, I did the best job that I
- 25:48possibly could. So he still gets on my case
- 25:51because he wasn't born rich. So we go around, we go around
- 25:54around about that all the time. What couldn't have been born
- 25:57rich? Well, I said, but but rich does
- 25:59not always get you no. It's just different problems or
- 26:03the. Same problems.
- 26:05I'd take that any day of the week.
- 26:07I wish I was, I wish I was born into wealth as well.
- 26:09But that again, it comes down to cards you're dealt and then how
- 26:12you play them out, how you, how you handle all of that.
- 26:15And yeah, it's a, it's a crazy, crazy worlds, I guess.
- 26:20All right. Well, well, we totally like
- 26:22jumped up the tracks on that one.
- 26:24We're all celebrities. I mean, again, it's sad.
- 26:27Celebrity Celebrity death. Sad to see the celebrities.
- 26:31Those are big celebrities. And again, I was just curious if
- 26:33you'd ever cried. I have not officially ever
- 26:36cried. I'll be curious if I ever do in
- 26:39the future if there's going to be some celebrity that truly
- 26:41impacts me. I'm, I'm bummed, I guess when I
- 26:44say, oh, that's a that's a bummer.
- 26:46Yeah, both of them. I think Malcolm Jamal Warner,
- 26:50like I said, was shocking. Ozzy, not so much as health
- 26:53wasn't great. My thought after Ozzy is, oh,
- 26:58gosh, celebrity deaths usually come in threes.
- 27:00Yep. That's it.
- 27:01Yep. So who's going to be next?
- 27:03That that's my fear. Oh no, who's going to?
- 27:06Be next and we know and before we get off celebrity deaths,
- 27:09what has really become crap is the fake ones all on the lawn
- 27:13the. AI hate that.
- 27:16Because Patty was a couple things.
- 27:17Did Sally Field pass away? Like, no, Sally Field didn't
- 27:20pass away. Well, it popped up in my feed
- 27:23and and and people are doing that to get clicks.
- 27:26Which I had to I had to verify that Ozzy was really dead
- 27:29because I at first I, I thought the same thing.
- 27:32Oh, this is just a hoax. This isn't real.
- 27:34This is one of those so and so died and they didn't really die
- 27:37kind of things that happens all the time so.
- 27:40Yeah, so it's and. And if it's on TMZ, guess what?
- 27:44They're gone. It's real.
- 27:47Got to give it to got to give it to TMZ, man.
- 27:49They they yell at all. That's hilarious that we gauge
- 27:53celebrity deaths being real about TMZ.
- 27:56You have they're, it, they, they, I people get paid.
- 27:59Well, you already know they get paid like, like paparazzi sit
- 28:05around at the at what is it, the Cedar Sinai?
- 28:08Cedar Sinai is the big Los Angeles where all the celebs are
- 28:11at. So they got paparazzi swarm in
- 28:13there. When they see you come in on the
- 28:14stretcher, you know, they're like, oh, shit, here's Tony
- 28:17Bennett on the stretcher. TMZ.
- 28:20Yeah, I think Tony Bennett's going to die.
- 28:22I don't want to make fun of it light of any of that, but.
- 28:25But yeah, it's like, God, piranha, right?
- 28:28Piranha. Can you imagine if he's the next
- 28:31celebrity to go and you just predicted it?
- 28:34That's what's been crazy. He's dead.
- 28:36Is he No. Doesn't he have Alzheimer's?
- 28:39When did he die? 20 minutes gone.
- 28:43Is he dead? He is.
- 28:45Of course he is. He's the one that sang with Lady
- 28:47Gaga, right? Yeah.
- 28:50When did he die? He he's been gone 2023 today,
- 28:56yesterday, actually two years. I'm like.
- 28:59When did he die? I knew he had Alzheimer's.
- 29:02He had a great life. Though, Oh yeah, he did.
- 29:05So he had an yeah, he had amazing.
- 29:07He had amazing life. How old?
- 29:09Was this old Tenny bent? I thought he was 90s.
- 29:13Oh, he was in his 90s. Yeah, Yeah, he was in his 90s.
- 29:17But for me, I guess Betty White would have been if you're
- 29:19talking, he was 96. But if you're talking Betty
- 29:23White, she. Was 99 right?
- 29:27Yeah, I think yeah, she just barely.
- 29:29Oh, oh, I guess Dick fan Dick Van Dyke.
- 29:34I love Dick Van Dyke. He's still alive though, right?
- 29:39Yep, Yep, he and he's pushing getting close to he's getting
- 29:43close to 100 real close. So, but there are still some
- 29:47great, great celebs out there that are good people.
- 29:51It's going to, it's going to bother people.
- 29:54Leon Well damn, I don't know how I missed Tony Bennett dying You.
- 29:57Missed. Yeah, you missed Tony Bennett,
- 30:01so I don't feel so bad. You're like, what?
- 30:02He blasphemy? I was like, wait, what He.
- 30:05Wasn't he? Was He's a nut diet.
- 30:07What? Do you?
- 30:08Well, he was another one who had just did a Gaga.
- 30:12Yeah, which is probably in my mind, I'm still picturing him
- 30:15alive with her, right. And because they did that whole.
- 30:19Yeah, they did that whole. Shortly after, yeah.
- 30:22They did that, Yeah. They were talking, they were
- 30:24doing like a 60 minutes thing about how music helps people
- 30:27with Alzheimer's and you know, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 30:30So in my mind, he has never died.
- 30:32I think a couple singing with Lady Gaga.
- 30:35I think a couple big ones. Willie Nelson still with us.
- 30:38Willie will be a big one. William Shatner, Captain Kirk is
- 30:41still with us 9394. So there are some some pretty
- 30:45big, big, big celebrities still still with us.
- 30:49And again, it we just judge our own mortality by that because
- 30:53like, Malcolm is our age. Like oh Dang Dang.
- 30:57That we all grew up together, basically.
- 31:00That puts us, puts it into reality for us.
- 31:02Like, OK, this, this, you know, we're, we're not getting any
- 31:05younger, Michelle. No, but I don't want to be
- 31:09reminded of that. I mean, I guess we should
- 31:13because. We make go out my three ways and
- 31:16you don't have to worry about it.
- 31:18Yeah, which is funny because Jay like the sex one.
- 31:22I mean, I'm going to have to mark as explicit again.
- 31:24Anyway, it's fine. The sex 1 And that's what he
- 31:28always joked how he wants to die is having sex and it's like well
- 31:32I don't want you to die on top of me like what this.
- 31:36Is. Not going to be great for me.
- 31:40Like like what? I think you can say the sex word
- 31:44on a podcast, I think. You're good.
- 31:45You can yes, but I'll probably so when I upload us to all these
- 31:51different, you know, podcast choices for everybody, whether
- 31:54it's Spotify, Apple, blah, blah, blah, you have to check whether
- 31:57you're explicit and depending on what we say, what cuss words we
- 32:02talk about sex, you know, all kinds of stuff.
- 32:04Then I have to click that because of it.
- 32:08But I it's fine. I don't care.
- 32:10I, I was interested when we uploaded Logan's albums many,
- 32:14many years ago, he had a couple songs where he had cuss words in
- 32:16it, like just one or two. And I thought, well, is this
- 32:20explicit or not? And so we decided not to put it
- 32:22up because it's a, it's a cuss word.
- 32:25So does a song. OK, great example.
- 32:28Does a, does a, a word a cuss word in a song make it explicit?
- 32:35Like if you say damn or hell, damn or hell in a song.
- 32:39I would think yes, it's. Interesting that you think the
- 32:42for me, I'm good with damn or hell or any of that.
- 32:45Now the new Sabrina Carpenter, which I love manchild, she goes,
- 32:49that's my life. Okay, well, that would be that
- 32:52would be explicit to me. But if she said damn woo damn, I
- 32:57don't know why consider that explicit.
- 33:00Well, and. The needle has moved as far as
- 33:03that kind of stuff goes compared to just a few years ago.
- 33:07I mean, yeah, I remember hearing Jay-Z.
- 33:09Can I get a what? What?
- 33:10OK, Cuz that was a clean version that we would play on the radio.
- 33:13And then I heard it on satellite radio.
- 33:15The real song, basically what we were playing on pop radio wasn't
- 33:21even the real song. And I couldn't believe it.
- 33:25I thought it wasn't the same song.
- 33:27I'm going in the world. This is crazy.
- 33:31Well, even from, because even the even the Sabrina Carpenter
- 33:35Espresso song, she changed the lyrics for the radio edit
- 33:38because that's not the real lyrics.
- 33:39So you're like, wow. And so Can you imagine being
- 33:42parents? I remember when Fetty Wap was
- 33:45big and I remember that there was a song that was on the radio
- 33:48and then Fetty Wap and Chiron. Chiron was into Fetty Wap and he
- 33:52popped it in. Oh, I want to hear Fetty Wap and
- 33:54his mom's listening. And she goes, what the is this?
- 33:58And he wasn't allowed. Yeah.
- 33:59He was like, no, you're not going to listen.
- 34:01You know, I remember the first time Logan and I were driving
- 34:03around a Akon. Akon.
- 34:07And so he pops it in and he's in high school, and it has the N
- 34:10word, you know, because it was Akon.
- 34:13It's Akon. I said, oh, no, you don't.
- 34:15And he started singing. I'm like, no, you don't.
- 34:18No, you don't. Those are the lyrics.
- 34:21I'm like, no you don't. That doesn't matter.
- 34:23They could sing that. They could say that word and
- 34:25sing that word. But you, you.
- 34:27I know. But it's the same thing as
- 34:28Nelly. If you listen to Nelly or any of
- 34:30that stuff, you're like, whoa, what?
- 34:32Yeah, there's yeah. So, So yeah, I, I think what we
- 34:36just said is not explicit, just throwing it out there.
- 34:39Yeah, I mean, Shaylee was five and Britney Spears, I want to Go
- 34:43All the way was on Playing on the radio, and she's on the back
- 34:45seat. I, I, I, they want to go and I'm
- 34:51like, Oh my God, please don't sing that in kindergarten.
- 34:53Please do not go and sing this in kindergarten.
- 34:57Well, I remember many years ago I got a call from tri-cities
- 35:00when I was working in Yakima, where Katy Perry's Menage A
- 35:03Trois was in the middle of the song.
- 35:06We can't air this. I'm like, no, no one's going to
- 35:08ask. They're like, what do you do?
- 35:09I said, well, I said worst case scenario, just reverse it so
- 35:12it's gargled. But I said no one, no one.
- 35:15What if so much it's on the school bus, someone's going to
- 35:18go what? Anyway, Yeah.
- 35:20I mean, Speaking of, you know, we talked about George Michael,
- 35:22remember, I want your sex. We could only play it after
- 35:2510:00 PM at night. It couldn't be played any
- 35:29earlier during. The song is so tame.
- 35:32Now. Oh.
- 35:34It's so tame. I remember the skating rink when
- 35:36I worked at When I worked at the skating rink, you couldn't play
- 35:39it. Radio did not play it until
- 35:42after like 10:00 at night like that.
- 35:45After 10. I will get, I will give you
- 35:47credit. That Faith album for me is
- 35:51quintessential. It's an exception.
- 35:53That yeah, I Want Your Sex For the Longest time, one of my
- 35:57favorite, favorite songs off that album.
- 35:59I love, I love that song. I love that album.
- 36:01But yeah, I think about all those great albums, Def Leppard,
- 36:04Hysteria, George Michael, Faith. There's so many great albums
- 36:07right in that that Guns N' Roses, Appetite for Destruction.
- 36:11Different. We had the I'm sorry, kids.
- 36:14We had the best albums. We still do.
- 36:18I mean, they're recycling our music with they are, you know,
- 36:22the little hooks of all the songs that were popular when we
- 36:25were growing up now, but. I'm still, but again, I'm still
- 36:28jamming. I still love my Sabrina
- 36:29Carpenter. I love the Joe Burgers.
- 36:31I mean, there's a lot of great artists.
- 36:34Alton Boone. Yeah, there's a ton of great I
- 36:37well, I'm a Top 40 kids, so to me, I like to hear the new Top
- 36:4040 music and then the new songs. Oh, there's a great song.
- 36:43Is it Lola Lola Young or Lola Lola Lola Young?
- 36:49And the song is called Messy I. Was just going to say, is that
- 36:52the messy song? That's a great.
- 36:53Song. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:55It's like I'm a little bit messy and all that.
- 36:56Lola. Yeah, it's Lola Young.
- 36:58I love that. What is it?
- 37:00Chapel. Rowan Chapel.
- 37:02Love that. Yeah, yeah, that's a good jam.
- 37:08That's my jam, yeah. So yeah, yeah, I like songs like
- 37:12that. So I like Top 40 me.
- 37:14Too, I still listen to it even though some of the words I I
- 37:17can't understand what. They're saying now you don't
- 37:19want to hear the album version, I guess.
- 37:22No, I don't. I'd be shocked.
- 37:25I'd be Jay-Z shocked. Basically, yeah.
- 37:30All right, now that we've talked about deaths like crazy and all
- 37:34kinds of stuff, how you going to pick this up?
- 37:35How you? Going to how you going to Pep?
- 37:37This baby. Well, I did want to touch on the
- 37:40Stephen Colbert thing because I think it really, we've talked
- 37:45about how we've gotten in trouble for reading a story
- 37:48about Pepsi or Coke or whatever. And then locally we've gotten in
- 37:53trouble with the regional Pepsi, Coke distributors and, you know,
- 37:58gotten called in and talked to and blah, blah, blah.
- 38:01So it's kind of the same, just in a whole bigger light.
- 38:05Basically, Stephen Colbert is one of the top rated late night
- 38:10shows. So why are you giving him the
- 38:13boot other than this deal that you want to push through?
- 38:17And that was part of the deal was he's got to go because he's
- 38:19making fun of people. Get a book about it.
- 38:23I'll be you. You say your piece, and then I
- 38:25think I'm going to be devil. I'm actually going to be devil's
- 38:27advocate on this one. Yeah, well, I at least my
- 38:31viewpoint of it. I yes, I totally think that was
- 38:34part of the deal or the arrangement or the back, this
- 38:37shaking the hands, back door deal, whatever you want to call
- 38:39it, like, well, this guy has to go because he makes fun of me.
- 38:42I don't like it. So in order for this to go
- 38:45through with the FCC, you got to, you got to get rid of him
- 38:49kind of thing. That's what I think happened.
- 38:53OK, so again, I love Stephen Colbert absolutely 100%.
- 38:58I like Jimmy Fallon, I like Jimmy Kimmel.
- 39:01I like them all, Conan, all that.
- 39:03I look at it, I really think humbly, I submit to the court,
- 39:09you can deny this. I really think streaming has
- 39:13changed everything. If if there was ever a radio
- 39:15killed the video star, I think the cost of running that show
- 39:19late night, even though it it still does well, I mean, they
- 39:23cancel shows now that are are 6 or 7 million people.
- 39:28If it's six or 7 million, they'll cancel your especially
- 39:31CBS. Well, CBS especially, you know,
- 39:34they're your your SWAT TV show or whatever they are.
- 39:37They're still doing well in the ratings, but the cost to produce
- 39:41it, they're just like this isn't worth it to do it anymore.
- 39:44So for Stephen Colbert, I know, I mean, I'm a big Stephen
- 39:48Colbert fan. If you're talking my favorite
- 39:49late night guy right now, it's absolutely Stephen Colbert.
- 39:52And I loved him on The Daily Show.
- 39:54I like Jon Stewart, I like all of that.
- 39:57I for once am actually going to say I think this is I think
- 39:59streaming. Same with movies right now.
- 40:02I think movies outside of your big, you know, blockbusters and
- 40:06they're not and they're not blockbusters anymore.
- 40:09Like they all not in the. Old days.
- 40:12Right, they wish they had a billion dollar movie now it
- 40:15takes now it takes everything that's got to even make 600
- 40:19million and that again, that's still so much money.
- 40:22It's insane. And I think that that bean
- 40:25counters get in there. I think bean counters get in
- 40:27there. I think corporate people get in
- 40:28there and they got a the IT it for me, I really believe it's
- 40:33all about how can I get, how can I get my raise and I and I.
- 40:38The shareholders and the board. Now I got the money.
- 40:42I do absolutely. I believe, I believe number one,
- 40:45more than anything else before they sell it, the goal is to
- 40:49drive stock price and and to get, you know, make the bottom
- 40:54line attractive. So Stephen Colbert, besides all
- 40:58the stuff that he says is a casualty of that, they're like,
- 41:02well, they're like, well, we're already, you know, we might as
- 41:04well just make this change. And I think, I think late night,
- 41:08I say five years from now, I think late night'll go away.
- 41:10I don't think, I don't think those shows, even from the the
- 41:13other stations, I don't think it'll exist.
- 41:14Because once you and I both know, because we've been in
- 41:17radio a long time, once somebody does something, everybody else
- 41:21follows, right. And because what they'll do with
- 41:25Nielsen is they'll go, OK, what are the ratings now that Stephen
- 41:27Colbert's gone? They're exactly the same as they
- 41:30were. Well, then, then in C goes,
- 41:33well, you know what, Jimmy Fallon, I don't need you.
- 41:36And then ABC goes Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Kimmel, I don't need you.
- 41:39Because if the ratings don't deviate, they'll they'll,
- 41:45they'll dance the jig. Right, because they should both
- 41:47go up for both of them because we're are those viewers going to
- 41:50go now? So.
- 41:52Well, they right, But if yeah, so it'll be curious now if it
- 41:55plummets. Now, if it plummets, then it'll
- 41:58be then it'll be late night with so and so somebody else will be
- 42:01there because they realize it's too much of A revenue hit.
- 42:03But if they lose no revenue from getting rid of Stephen Colbert,
- 42:06the other late night shows, oh, wow, we don't need because they
- 42:10still, yeah, they make what, 12,000,020?
- 42:13I mean, they still get paid a lot of money.
- 42:17Right, which I think Stephen Colbert show brought in like 160
- 42:21million in AD revenue, don't quote me on that, but I think
- 42:24that's what I heard so. Well, and again, it's a number.
- 42:27It's a lot of money. It's a numbers game.
- 42:31And it also takes like 200 people to, you know, to do the
- 42:34show, One of those shows that's. The.
- 42:36Same. I couldn't imagine that kind of
- 42:39man, I couldn't imagine that. So and and again, we're working
- 42:44in radio where we're we just had a couple layoffs in our
- 42:47building. We're still seeing layoffs.
- 42:48So and it's all about getting that again, it's all about
- 42:52getting that stock price up for the stockholders.
- 42:54So you're, you know, sad the listeners best interest is not.
- 42:58In the stock? Oh no.
- 43:00And to and to think and to think that it is, that is the most
- 43:03ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my entire life, even from a
- 43:06radio standpoint. You know, we used to be very
- 43:08proud of being live and local and and we make a lot of excuses
- 43:13for not being local these days. You have one.
- 43:16Yeah. Well, but.
- 43:17But. But we have one DJ on the
- 43:19station. OK.
- 43:22Wow, that's how they justify being local.
- 43:27Yeah, yeah. I mean, or or and and not even
- 43:29live, they're voice tracks. So because remember, we're
- 43:33peeling the veil behind this away.
- 43:35Yes, which we talked about. That, that, that DJs are not
- 43:3824/7 and they're not live in the studios.
- 43:41They're, I mean, I do do a live morning show.
- 43:43I'm very grateful to do that, but it's not it's not the norm.
- 43:46Great. So, yeah, I think the Steven so
- 43:49devil's advocate, not I think it was their excuse to get rid of
- 43:54Stephen Colbert. That was, that was their their
- 43:57out. It probably speed up the
- 43:59process. I think I do agree with you
- 44:02legacy like radio, TV, how we consume media, all that I say in
- 44:09a few years right that it will be completely different.
- 44:13And so yeah, I think it just speed up that because they want
- 44:17this merger to. Happen AI standpoint we were
- 44:19just talking about there's a radio company, one of the major
- 44:21radio companies is going to use AI.
- 44:23So the big voice guy you hear between the songs we talked
- 44:26about at previous podcast, the, the person that's in between the
- 44:29music, not the DJ, they're going to have AI.
- 44:32And and so just think about that.
- 44:33Each of those stations that are on in America, let's just say
- 44:36hypothetically, some VO guy voice over guy gets paid 400
- 44:40bucks a month to do that times that by 500 stations.
- 44:44That's how much the company saves by just doing AI, and that
- 44:47is around the corner and AI is getting better and better.
- 44:52Yes, and all those voice over guys are going to lose their
- 44:56jobs. Well, yeah, absolutely.
- 44:58And the newest thing that the newest toy we're getting that I
- 45:02guess in a couple weeks is there's an AI program that we
- 45:06can talk to ourselves basically. So so I can record myself going,
- 45:10hey, I want to a great example is hey, I want to win some
- 45:12Maroon 5 tickets. I put that me saying that into
- 45:16this AI thing and I could be female, I could be male, I could
- 45:20be whoever. And so when I'm on there, I'm
- 45:22like 98.3 the key. Rick Michaels with you.
- 45:24Hey, how can I win Maroon 5 tickets?
- 45:26I'm talk. It's me talking to myself.
- 45:28But the voice has changed. That's the new that's going to
- 45:32be the new toy. So basically we don't need
- 45:35those. I don't even need phone callers.
- 45:37Great. I was just going to say you
- 45:38don't need these actors and actresses for, you know, when we
- 45:41talked about like the second day update, all that stuff that's on
- 45:43the radio that is all actors and now you have AI that could do
- 45:48that. That is crazy.
- 45:49Yeah, so, so fight, so, so you know, 'cause remember back when
- 45:52we were on the air, Oh, you got to be a, you have to have a lot
- 45:54of phones, remember? I'm sure you got that grass.
- 45:56Oh God. You need phones.
- 46:00Every break needs to be a phoner.
- 46:01OK, well sometimes. Trust me, there wasn't.
- 46:03There was not good phoners or it was a slow day, especially
- 46:06during summer. That's what I was going to say.
- 46:07Not all of them are good, and even trying to chop them up to
- 46:11make them sound good sometimes was impossible.
- 46:14Well, now you could. Now you can ask the topic and
- 46:17give yourself the answer. That is so weird.
- 46:22That is so weird. OK, well, when you can make
- 46:25yourself a female, when this, when you get this new little toy
- 46:28like I want to, I want to hear this.
- 46:31So Woody, Woody a while back, he has a production tool that does
- 46:35it and for the heck of it, Patty and I both sent some VO to him
- 46:39and he turned into a female and for some commercial radio
- 46:42commercial. How did how did you sound?
- 46:44Sound well it sound like a girl. I mean some people would accuse
- 46:48me of sound like a girl but no it.
- 46:51Don't sound like a girl. Definitely sounded yeah, you
- 46:54can't tell the difference. I mean it and and they're it's
- 46:58going to get better. AI is going to get better.
- 47:01Right, which I was going to ask because you know, with some of
- 47:04the AI art and pictures you can tell has that.
- 47:07Oh. My gosh.
- 47:08Touch to it. And so that was that was going
- 47:11to be my question like, OK, that's why I was asking how well
- 47:15you sounded as a female. You know, can you can you tell
- 47:18is it like the pictures that we're seeing which are going to
- 47:21get better? They are as AI grows.
- 47:24Right now, one of the number one bands on Spotify is Velvet Sun.
- 47:27The band is called Velvet Sundown.
- 47:30It loaded up two albums a few weeks ago.
- 47:32It's number one on Spotify and they discovered, guess what?
- 47:36It was all AI generated. Yeah, I read about that and I
- 47:39had to go. I had to go.
- 47:40Listen, I went. And heard the song and I went,
- 47:42wow, I went that song is actually not bad.
- 47:47So did. I like that kind of music.
- 47:50That's a whole album of that. So are we, are we going to that
- 47:54future to where you don't even need real musicians or
- 47:57performers anymore too on top of.
- 48:01Probably. And that's you know why during
- 48:03the the writers strike that they wanted it in there that they
- 48:07weren't going to use AI to write these show scripts and stories
- 48:10and movie scripts and they saw the writing on the wall.
- 48:15So. It just, if you're, if you're in
- 48:18a creative field, it, it changes everything.
- 48:21And so I'll be curious to see what that does now.
- 48:24Right now, I mean, it's, it's not perfected, but give it five
- 48:28years. Oh yeah.
- 48:30People and and then and then it comes down to how are people can
- 48:33consume it? You know, are they if, if they,
- 48:35if, if people are all in on AI, then then you're shit out of
- 48:39luck that that will be the new accepted.
- 48:40It's the same thing as when again, go back to Walmart, go
- 48:44back to Walmart when Walmart moved into town.
- 48:46You know, it's like, well, I'll still go to Jim's hardware to
- 48:48buy my $8 hammer and Walmart's got it at 4 bucks and, and
- 48:53people go, I'm never going to Walmart.
- 48:54Well, now they all go to Walmart, They all go to Costco,
- 48:57they all go to the big box stores because Jim's Hardware
- 49:01could not have everything. Bane that those?
- 49:06And so it, yeah. And so they and and people
- 49:09change. But definitely so which I my
- 49:13thought is kind of the same, especially because you know,
- 49:17everybody wants real, real content, real this real,
- 49:21whatever. Well, AI is not real.
- 49:23So how is that going to mesh with that happening?
- 49:28Which I feel like because so many influencers, everything is
- 49:31filtered and fake. And, you know, you can rent out
- 49:35houses for all these influencers and make it look like that's
- 49:39really their house when that's not really where they live.
- 49:42And so we live in this world where everything that you
- 49:44consume could be fake, and now everybody is hungry for real
- 49:48things. But how is AI going to play into
- 49:51that? Because it's not real at all.
- 49:54One single bit so. Well, I think YouTube is doing a
- 49:57good thing, which I actually salute YouTube on this.
- 49:59They're demonetizing anything that's AI.
- 50:03If you're not real, it's they they've they've caught up, thank
- 50:06goodness, or they're going to start policing it to where the
- 50:10content has to be like like you and I right now.
- 50:12This is I mean, this is real. As bad as it is, it's it's at
- 50:16least real. It's not I am not an I, I am not
- 50:19AII am a real card then so. That's how you know this is
- 50:24real, because how bad we are. I was thinking about it was
- 50:27like, so I was thinking about you and me or anybody else.
- 50:33I have such a unique delivery, but how would how could you
- 50:37replicate? There are some people that you
- 50:41that are just unique sounding. Yes.
- 50:45So it's like how's and but I but I'm like, you never know, AI
- 50:48could replicate me in five years.
- 50:50I was going to say I'm sure AI can learn.
- 50:53Can learn like yeah, exactly. Yeah, so, so they got it right
- 50:56with Terminator, like, uh oh, AIS, the ice covered.
- 51:01But but for our, but for our colleagues in the business,
- 51:04it'll be interesting to see how much more.
- 51:07And and this whole illusion, I'm going to throw it out there
- 51:10right now. This illusion, to think that
- 51:13you're going to go back the way you came is an illusion.
- 51:18It's like, yeah, so there might be like down the road, a
- 51:22backlash from AI, but they're not going to restaff radio
- 51:25stations with full talent and all that.
- 51:27That's. Just never.
- 51:29Because that's been that's been the big dream.
- 51:30You go on these radio groups and they're all like, oh, you know
- 51:34that all Mon Mon pause are going to come back and buy all the
- 51:36radio stations and it's going to be live.
- 51:39Sorry. Oh, I didn't know that was.
- 51:42I'm not, I'm not in these forums.
- 51:44Oh. That's the big dream that I
- 51:45heart goes bankrupt or all go bankrupt in Mon pause.
- 51:50You know, somebody, somebody in Yakima is going to want to buy
- 51:53the stations and and then they're going to suddenly staff
- 51:56up with live disc jockeys. It doesn't work that way.
- 52:00You never go back the way you came.
- 52:02No, I mean it might just be a placeholder for where it
- 52:07currently is, but it isn't going to go back to the way it was
- 52:10completely, you know, with 24 hour live deejays won't ever go
- 52:16back to that ever actually. Crazy at the end, sadly, it'll
- 52:19be less and less. Always will be.
- 52:21Less. And if you're lucky to do it,
- 52:23then you're lucky to do it. So I, you know, again, knock on
- 52:25wood, happy to do it. But again, I also know what's I
- 52:28also know what's around the bend and, and if, and I've always
- 52:31told people that, hey, if it ended today, so be it.
- 52:34I mean, my son and I had this conversation and he was like.
- 52:36Dad, I'm really, he goes. I'm really worried.
- 52:38About you Dad, I'm like and I said why?
- 52:39And he goes. He goes, radio is irrelevant and
- 52:41you're, you know, and you're going to be gone.
- 52:43You're going to lose your job someday.
- 52:45What are you going to do when you're 60 years old?
- 52:47Well, I said, son, I will work. He's like, what do you mean?
- 52:50I go, I go, I go to work and he goes, but not radio.
- 52:55I'm like, I'm capable of doing other things.
- 52:59I said I hadn't. I I did things before I did
- 53:02radio, so not that I want to go do those things, but yeah, it's,
- 53:07it made me laugh though. He was worried about my
- 53:09longevity. That.
- 53:11I yeah, she's like, he's like, you know, and I and I do.
- 53:14I get it. I've got, I've, I've got if I'm
- 53:16lucky, I've got 10 more years left if I'm lucky.
- 53:21I mean I was going to say 10 is 10 might be pushing it.
- 53:24Might be pushing it. I might, yeah.
- 53:26But but you. But if anybody could do it.
- 53:30It's going to be you. You're going to be the one in
- 53:32that radio station. Put your money.
- 53:34You better put your money down on Rick, right?
- 53:37You know that. Yes.
- 53:39Are we betting on this now that you're going to be 50 bucks in
- 53:4310 years? You're going to be the last one
- 53:45at the radio station? Yep.
- 53:46You better. You better bet it you better.
- 53:48Or is it going to happen sooner? Yeah, so, well, celebrity, we
- 53:55would all we, we bounced like a ball today.
- 53:58We did, yeah. We didn't even get to Jeffrey.
- 54:00I've seen it either. Like, Oh yeah, do you want OK.
- 54:03That was on my list. I mean, we're sitting at like
- 54:05almost an hour, so. Do you want to?
- 54:09OK, so I mean. So I don't know if we want to
- 54:11dive into this now. I mean, if we do, we can't go on
- 54:15these tyrants and down all these little rabbit holes that we go
- 54:18down if we do so. I say on both sides, if there is
- 54:22a list, release the list. That's just so stupid.
- 54:26Right. It makes no sense to me why the
- 54:30Republicans in the House voted not to release the list if there
- 54:33is a list and now they went home for recess early so that they
- 54:38couldn't keep bringing these up to vote.
- 54:41And now David Blanche is going to go visit jizzling whatever
- 54:47her name is in in prison. Which Bill Barr went to go visit
- 54:52Jeffrey Epstein before he killed himself.
- 54:56So that's a little iffy right there.
- 54:58And also, and my question is why is there 3 minutes missing from
- 55:02the original Jeffrey Epstein prison video and their excuses?
- 55:07Well, that's how the system resets itself or whatever they
- 55:10said. I'm sorry, what prison or jail
- 55:13system has that where you're missing 3 minutes of video every
- 55:18day so that the system can reset or whatever it's doing?
- 55:22None of this makes any sense whatsoever and I feel like they
- 55:28don't if there is a list that they don't want to release it
- 55:33the House Republicans anyway because people live like they
- 55:37live off this conspiracy that this list is out there.
- 55:41And if they do release something that there isn't names or there
- 55:45is names, then that all just goes away.
- 55:48And what is the next conspiracy going to be like?
- 55:51This feeds those people. Does that make sense?
- 55:54It's the red meat. So that's that's what they live
- 55:57by. And and we were talking about
- 55:59how do you want to live your life?
- 56:00Do you want to live your life with red meat in your, in your
- 56:04day, daily diet, just period all the time?
- 56:08I think the goal in life is to be a better human being.
- 56:11And so would I be shocked by anybody on the, the nothing?
- 56:14I, I guess the older I get, nothing shocks me so.
- 56:18And, and I've always been in the camp that I don't care if you're
- 56:22Democrat or Republican, if you're a criminal, you're asked
- 56:24to be in jail. Exactly.
- 56:27Period. That's it, plain and simple.
- 56:28I don't give a crap about your political leanings.
- 56:31And and so and this the ridiculousness of this Trump
- 56:35just put up the Obama getting arrested for the Epstein list or
- 56:38whatever. This means this you, you are a
- 56:41sitting president. You should be A and and again,
- 56:44but they I mean I could go on for hours now I won't do that.
- 56:49They're, they're saying that right, that it was the Obama did
- 56:53the OK for the, the Russian investigation.
- 56:56Well, he was president and so based on the Supreme Court that
- 57:01he's in, he's immune based off of their decision, it was a
- 57:04presidential decision in his job.
- 57:08So that makes him immune to whatever you want to say,
- 57:11regardless of if if it's true or not.
- 57:13So I mean, it doesn't really matter.
- 57:16They live off of that. They live off of that.
- 57:20I think truthfully, at the end of the day, and I liked him.
- 57:23I think he's great. Probably one of our most boring
- 57:27presidents was Obama. Like they're like 0 scandals 0.
- 57:32No, no, the tan suit, remember? Oh yeah, wearing wearing a tan
- 57:38suit. That was Oh yeah, how dare he
- 57:40wear a tan suit. I remember that's.
- 57:42All they had on his man. But they've been trying to pin
- 57:45anything and everything on him and and again, they zilch 0 So
- 57:52to me, it's like I'm I'm in the camp of put up or shut up.
- 57:55If this list is out there, you know, I mean, but they're
- 57:59obsessed with it. They're obsessed with it.
- 58:01And and if the and if the list didn't exist, why did you vote
- 58:03for it not to be released? Yeah, again, it makes no sense
- 58:09to me. Like I said, they're either
- 58:10doing that because they know, you know, if there is not a
- 58:14list, then they're based that lives off of these conspiracy
- 58:18theories. What are what are the what are
- 58:20they going to live off of now? Again, going back to when Bush,
- 58:25I mean when Trump was on the bus with Billy Bush and grab him by
- 58:29the. Yeah.
- 58:31By the Hoo ha, that should have been it.
- 58:34Oh yeah, or making fun of that disabled reporter.
- 58:37Any of that. So even like, oh, I, you know, I
- 58:40try to make, I try to make a move on her, but she was
- 58:42married. All of that should have
- 58:44disqualified you. But it won't, you know, even
- 58:47John McCain that I like, I like people who don't get captured.
- 58:52You never served. John McCain is a hero.
- 58:55I don't care if I'm looking or not.
- 58:57John McCain's a hero. Right.
- 58:59I had so much respect for John McCain when he put that Lady in
- 59:03her place when they he was campaigning against Obama.
- 59:09And he goes. He's a good man and.
- 59:13They would have lunch together. I loved hearing that they would
- 59:17have lunch together after Obama was president and McCain was a
- 59:20sitting senator, and they would meet for lunch.
- 59:23And, and to me, that's how our the democracy is supposed to
- 59:28work. We're supposed to have those
- 59:30disagreements. But at the end of the day, we
- 59:33should all be able to come together and talk and not hate
- 59:37each other. Like now.
- 59:38It's like I hate you kind of mentality.
- 59:42You know, it's a ridiculous it's the same even going back to the
- 59:44the Bush and Clinton relationship.
- 59:47They're best buddies and Jenna Bush was talking about Oh my
- 59:51goes, you know, and you see the and you see them when they come
- 59:53together for a funeral. You know, they're joking around
- 59:57now. Guess who they don't go near?
- 59:59They don't Republicans and the Democrats.
- 1:00:02I mean so, so it's like. It's it's just, it's just weird,
- 1:00:08you know, I mean it and and it's a cult and they're crazy.
- 1:00:11I remember when James Mattis, who was the big general who's
- 1:00:15from Richland, WA, he's from here, he's from tri-cities and
- 1:00:18he disavowed Trump. And I'm hearing down the hallway
- 1:00:22from the conservative radio station.
- 1:00:24He's a traitor. Hang James Mattis.
- 1:00:27I mean, the guy is from our town.
- 1:00:28He's from Richland and and people down the hallway were
- 1:00:33screaming. He's a traitor.
- 1:00:35He's betrayed us. What are you that much of A cult
- 1:00:38leader? Are you that much of A cultist
- 1:00:40that that you that somebody who's from your own hometown who
- 1:00:44goes this guy's not good? Right.
- 1:00:47Or even saying, you know, hang him, which again, right.
- 1:00:53I yeah, I've heard people, you know, my friends that have
- 1:00:57friends and I've heard the other person on the phone and they are
- 1:01:01talking about the liberal snowflakes and how I can't wait
- 1:01:04for them to die and, you know, stuff like that.
- 1:01:07And in my mind, I'm thinking there's no way that you can
- 1:01:13rationalize with this person that, oh, you know, we're,
- 1:01:17we're, we're the same. We're not the same because that
- 1:01:19person wants to see me dead based off of my beliefs or what
- 1:01:24I think. And I don't think the same about
- 1:01:26that person. My thought is like, we we live
- 1:01:31in a country where we can have differing views on politics but
- 1:01:35not want to kill each other based off of it.
- 1:01:38Like, to me, that was shocking to hear that this was a couple
- 1:01:42years ago. And it really brought to light
- 1:01:45that, OK, we are not the same people at all when it comes to
- 1:01:51this kind of stuff. And.
- 1:01:53It it my mind is blown because for me, songs like God bless the
- 1:01:58USA, love that Daryl Worley's have you forgotten?
- 1:02:02I mean, these are all powerful songs to me.
- 1:02:05I love these songs. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:02:08And and in my hearts of heart, I'm I'm incredibly patriotic and
- 1:02:11I stand behind our service people and the work that they do
- 1:02:15and and the sacrifices they make.
- 1:02:17Some gave all Billy Ray Cyrus. I'm thinking of all these great
- 1:02:19songs not and and not but but because I didn't vote for your
- 1:02:25dude, I should be hung like that's.
- 1:02:29The. That's the dumbest crap I've
- 1:02:31ever heard in my entire life. Or that or because because you
- 1:02:34and I don't see eye to eye, I'm not patriotic or I don't stand
- 1:02:37behind our troops. That's the dumbest crap I've
- 1:02:39ever you know, I've never heard. I've just I just I've never
- 1:02:42understood that mentality. I don't I don't live by that
- 1:02:45mentality. It's like, it's so stupid.
- 1:02:49So yes, I, I released the Epstein list.
- 1:02:52I'm not going to be, I'm not going to be shocked.
- 1:02:53You know, if Clinton's on there, great.
- 1:02:55If Trump's on there, great. I'm just saying they say like
- 1:02:58Bill Gates is on there. Well, if he is, then it would.
- 1:03:02Not shock me no one you know I don't care who's on there it but
- 1:03:05but if if that list exists, get it out in the world because
- 1:03:10they're criminals and people need to know about it.
- 1:03:13But then again, president's a criminal, so. 3434 felonies. 34
- 1:03:20felonies. So I mean and again, and, but I
- 1:03:23don't, but I don't, but I don't sit with the cultists and try to
- 1:03:27convince them. You're never going to convince
- 1:03:29them any different and. I.
- 1:03:31I always tell I love this line. Someone told me a few years back
- 1:03:34was the only opinion you care about is that your opinions
- 1:03:38coming out of my mouth? So it's like, if you and I
- 1:03:41disagree, you know, then you have then you don't you, you
- 1:03:45don't care about my opinion. Now if you and I are saying the
- 1:03:48same thing, Oh, you love that. So, so yes, release I'm I'm yes.
- 1:03:54I don't know what they're hiding.
- 1:03:55Release it. It's so stupid.
- 1:03:57All of that to me just drives me nuts.
- 1:03:59Do you think it actually exists? Do you think it's a real list?
- 1:04:05I didn't at first, but I I do there has there has to be some
- 1:04:10kind of not maybe not necessarily a list, but.
- 1:04:14There's a client list. There's a black book.
- 1:04:16Yes, which like which Jeffrey Epstein's black book had like 10
- 1:04:21different phone numbers for Donald Trump in it that he could
- 1:04:25be raged at. It's just stuff like that that
- 1:04:28it's like OK, well, and these all why aren't they talking to
- 1:04:33all these victims? Like all these victims know who
- 1:04:38who the clients were, they can give them all the details.
- 1:04:41They should be talking to them, not just laying or whatever her
- 1:04:45name is in jail. The the victims know all the
- 1:04:50people that they had to deal with and what happened to them,
- 1:04:54and those should be. You're dealing with powerful
- 1:04:57rich people. Go back to go back to Bill
- 1:05:00Cosby, go back to any of those situations.
- 1:05:02Money. The most crazy thing about money
- 1:05:05is money buys you a lot. I remember seeing a great
- 1:05:08interview with Lisa Marie Presley with Michael Jackson.
- 1:05:10And, and she was talking about she did love, she really loved
- 1:05:14Michael. And she says, but you don't
- 1:05:16understand what it's like to be married to somebody where no one
- 1:05:20says no to, period. When you're that wealthy,
- 1:05:25everybody says yes. And you live in a bubble and you
- 1:05:28live in a bubble. You live in a bubble.
- 1:05:32So you're so wealthy and you live in a bubble and no one
- 1:05:35tells you no. That's the fantasy.
- 1:05:37That's not the reality of the world.
- 1:05:39That's the fantasy. So I think when it comes to
- 1:05:42these poor victims and this situation, this does the
- 1:05:46talking. Right, which if you look at
- 1:05:49Jeffrey Epstein's original sentence, it was only 13 months
- 1:05:52because he cut that deal. And like you or I like, if that
- 1:05:56would have happened and we would have had a public defender, we
- 1:05:59would have been put away for, you know, life.
- 1:06:01I mean, that's just the facts of it.
- 1:06:03But because he was well connected and had all this
- 1:06:05money, that's how he was cut this deal so.
- 1:06:09Yes, wealth has wealth has privileges.
- 1:06:12And. The ultra wealthy, which you
- 1:06:15cannot comprehend. I couldn't even imagine what you
- 1:06:19know. $50 million wedding. Any of that stuff.
- 1:06:23So yeah, but but I'm also like, if, you know, if they're
- 1:06:25criminals, they're criminals and I don't care.
- 1:06:27Again, I'll go back to marital statement.
- 1:06:29I don't care if you're Democrat or Republican, independent,
- 1:06:31whatever. You're a piece of shit.
- 1:06:33You go to jail. Right.
- 1:06:35Yeah, which Why haven't any of these men gone to jail?
- 1:06:37That's been my question all along before.
- 1:06:40You know, men get off all the time.
- 1:06:42You know hubbub, you know. Men are.
- 1:06:45Treated. Men are treated different than
- 1:06:48women. Plainly.
- 1:06:49Definitely. Plain and simple, yeah.
- 1:06:51Well, hopefully that ends at some point in our lifetime.
- 1:06:56Probably won't. Sad.
- 1:06:58Sad. True probably will not end in
- 1:06:59our lifetime. Yeah.
- 1:07:01Well, on that happy note, we can probably end our podcast was
- 1:07:04that. A happy note, all right.
- 1:07:07That's sarcastic. That's Logan.
- 1:07:08Sarcasm. Sarcasm.
- 1:07:09There you. Go.
- 1:07:11I don't. I don't know if that is Logan
- 1:07:13sarcasm. Anyway.
- 1:07:16All right, well, thank you all so much for listening to Rick
- 1:07:18and that Michelle chick.
