- 0:00Speaker 1: Third and final hour of the program here on sports
- 0:02Speaker 1: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Greg Way, alongside the
- 0:06Speaker 1: producer Cameron Parker, were glad to be with you up
- 0:09Speaker 1: until five o'clock this afternoon and.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Checking a couple other.
- 0:15Speaker 1: The submissions on the text line, that's somebody you're talking
- 0:22Speaker 1: about me. When I was mentioned being at the Texas Jam,
- 0:26Speaker 1: they had it for several years here in the Connon Bowls.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Somebody said the Texas Jam was awesome, but always hot
- 0:30Speaker 1: as heck. I remember them spraying us down with fire hoses. Yeah,
- 0:35Speaker 1: they didn't do that here. I wish they had didn't
- 0:38Speaker 1: do that.
- 0:38Speaker 2: That was very hot.
- 0:40Speaker 1: CB says, I remember the days of the Bowl Coalition
- 0:42Speaker 1: and the Bowl Alliance.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you had that.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Then somebody else said they need to do the Bulls
- 0:50Speaker 1: before the season starts to help to seeding across the
- 0:53Speaker 1: conferences and then have the playoffs after the season.
- 0:56Speaker 2: That would be interesting.
- 0:57Speaker 1: You had a Bowls before the season, but you know
- 1:00Speaker 1: a lot of teams aren't at their best and have
- 1:02Speaker 1: it totally you know, formed and so like a EVOL preseason.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Interesting, Yeah, I mean we kind of already do
- 1:12Speaker 2: that because some of.
- 1:12Speaker 1: These games are sponsored, right, Yeah, yeah, you do have
- 1:16Speaker 1: some of that. Like you know, when Alabama played USC
- 1:19Speaker 1: at Jerry Old, wasn't that sponsored by Yeah, it was
- 1:22Speaker 1: something probably, Yeah, had had those there. Yeah, that's that's
- 1:26Speaker 1: one possibility there. Somebody else said that when we when
- 1:31Speaker 1: you came hit back with four playing Long Time by
- 1:34Speaker 1: Boston said, no doubt one of the best cut, the
- 1:39Speaker 1: best cut from one of the top five albums of
- 1:42Speaker 1: all time serious rock and roll. I certainly think it's
- 1:45Speaker 1: one of the top five debut albums of all time
- 1:49Speaker 1: that Boston, nineteen seventy six.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, best debut rock albums.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Okay, I think I think I think that would probably
- 1:59Speaker 1: that's good to be up there. Usually the ones that
- 2:03Speaker 1: had the self titled I think are great, like led Zeppelin.
- 2:06Speaker 1: By led Zeppelin, I.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Think, Meet the Beatles.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But well see, here's the thing about that's the trick
- 2:12Speaker 1: about that one the Beatles. That was their debut album
- 2:15Speaker 1: in the US, but they'd already been going in England
- 2:16Speaker 1: for a while. So depends on if you're just talking
- 2:19Speaker 1: about the debut in the US or not. Are you
- 2:22Speaker 1: experienced by the Jimi Hendrix experience. Okay, here's one that
- 2:27Speaker 1: I know Chad Hastings would like appetite for destruction, guns
- 2:30Speaker 1: and roses.
- 2:31Speaker 2: So now this list does list Please Please Meet by
- 2:34Speaker 2: the Beatles. Yeah, that will see And that was in England,
- 2:37Speaker 2: The Police Please be LP.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Van Halen by Van Halen, Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath,
- 2:42Speaker 1: The Doors by the Doors, Yeah, Clash by the Clash, Yeah,
- 2:47Speaker 1: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers by Yep, Tom Petty and
- 2:49Speaker 1: the Heartbreakers, Talking Head seventy seven by Talking Heads.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good. Ramones by the Ramones, Ye is
- 2:54Speaker 2: up there?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff. Those are good ones, good debut albums.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So yeah, it's is that a rule, Craig, It's like, hey,
- 3:03Speaker 1: it's your first album, we want to know. It has
- 3:05Speaker 1: to be the name of your band, no exceptions in.
- 3:09Speaker 2: The title somewhere.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You know the Beatles when they did the White Album later,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I mean they've been around together for years.
- 3:13Speaker 2: This is nineteen sixty eight.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Everybody knows it's the White Album because it's just all
- 3:17Speaker 1: white and then just kind of embossed there on it
- 3:20Speaker 1: is simply entitled The Beatles.
- 3:23Speaker 2: That was it.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Everybody knows it's the White Album though. Interesting, so they
- 3:26Speaker 1: went back in refirst YEP because there was Trendsetters, because
- 3:30Speaker 1: that was the last album they recorded, right, No, last
- 3:32Speaker 1: one they recorded with abbey Road, which came after that. Okay,
- 3:34Speaker 1: that's right, because it was the one they last it
- 3:38Speaker 1: was recorded, it was the last one released. But the
- 3:41Speaker 1: last one they recorded was abbey Road. Yeah, nineteen sixty
- 3:43Speaker 1: nine and the white album was in sixty eight, so
- 3:47Speaker 1: it wasn't long after that. Aren't they working on a
- 3:50Speaker 1: movie on each Beatles spender? Is that by It's gonna
- 3:54Speaker 1: be a bio pick on Who's who's producing?
- 3:56Speaker 2: Isn't that what's his name? Yeah, it's what's his name? Yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 2: that's the guy from the thing is doing that, right?
- 4:04Speaker 1: Uh, it's not Peter Jackson who did the Sam Mendes. Yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 1: we did that one movie with James Bonded. It's killing me,
- 4:15Speaker 1: killing me, it's my favorite one.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Really, Your skyfall goodness? Okay, all right? Love sky Into
- 4:25Speaker 2: the season.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Of rye for Texas volleyball this afternoon as they fell
- 4:29Speaker 1: in four sets to Creighton in the regional semifinal in
- 4:34Speaker 1: the Sweet sixteen there in State College, Pennsylvania. This was
- 4:37Speaker 1: the comments of long wrn's head coach Jared Elliott after
- 4:40Speaker 1: the match.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Well, congratulations of Creighton. Uh, they played extremely well. I
- 4:46Speaker 3: thought they put a lot of pressure on us from
- 4:49Speaker 3: the serving past game and uh, you know, they were
- 4:53Speaker 3: doing a great job defensively scrambling and putting up a
- 4:55Speaker 3: good block in front of us, and we were battling
- 4:58Speaker 3: all night long. I'm super proud of my team in
- 5:00Speaker 3: terms of the way they competed. Obviously it's not the
- 5:02Speaker 3: result that we want, but I'm okay sometimes losing the
- 5:07Speaker 3: when our kids give me everything they have, and they
- 5:08Speaker 3: did that throughout the entire season.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Questions place, I don't know. Just taking care of our
- 5:28Speaker 4: first contact, having confidence and everything that we did and
- 5:31Speaker 4: just battling back and trusting one another I think was
- 5:34Speaker 4: the game changer. But yeah, I mean in crunch time
- 5:36Speaker 4: it's just do or die, and so we felt that
- 5:38Speaker 4: pressure but took u to our advantage.
- 5:41Speaker 1: That was Madison's skinner there as a follow up to
- 5:43Speaker 1: Jared Elliott's opening statement, and of course Madison talking about
- 5:49Speaker 1: the first set that Creaton took it and kind of
- 5:52Speaker 1: set the tone for the match, and Texas not able
- 5:56Speaker 1: to completely rally back and win that one. So the
- 6:00Speaker 1: Long Orange Fall. The season ends at twenty wins, and
- 6:02Speaker 1: seven losses. Yes, nineteen consecutive trips to the Sweet sixteen,
- 6:06Speaker 1: but disappointment today and losing to the number two seed.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Texas was the three seed and they lost to the
- 6:11Speaker 1: number two seed there and creating and all probability will
- 6:16Speaker 1: play the one seed Penn State and the host there
- 6:21Speaker 1: in State College. Penn State has taken the first two
- 6:24Speaker 1: sets and they're up thirteen to twelve in the third set,
- 6:28Speaker 1: so probably.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Going to win that match to move on from there.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And like we said, disappointing there for Texas, but another
- 6:38Speaker 1: standout season for coach Elliott's group. The Texas women's basketball
- 6:47Speaker 1: team is on the road. They leave tomorrow for Richmond
- 6:50Speaker 1: and they'll play Richmond on Sunday. Did you see well,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I guess it would have been highlights because you and
- 6:54Speaker 1: I were together last night with the men's game.
- 6:56Speaker 2: You see the highlights of that Notre Dame Yukon game.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I didn't. I didn't. You did not, pretty I did not,
- 7:02Speaker 2: But you know that's a good matchup.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Well, Notre Dame in Yukon, they were very tight, and
- 7:08Speaker 1: then Notre Dame. I think Hannah Hidalgo hit a three
- 7:13Speaker 1: right before the end of the third quarter and then
- 7:15Speaker 1: Notre Dame just pulled away down the strategy one by eleven,
- 7:18Speaker 1: So I mean it was more, if you want to say,
- 7:22Speaker 1: whatever dominated or controlled by noted. Then the Notre Dame
- 7:26Speaker 1: Texas game that went overtime and went down to the
- 7:28Speaker 1: final seconds of regulation and then ended up going overtime.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But as it stood, it turned out that.
- 7:42Speaker 2: That Notre Dame pulled away and they won. So Notre
- 7:44Speaker 2: Dames had an interesting season.
- 7:46Speaker 1: They started off really red hot, beat number one South Carolina,
- 7:54Speaker 1: went down to the Cayman Islands, lost two games, lost
- 7:57Speaker 1: to TCU, and then lost another games, went unranked.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Team fell from third to tenth Utah. It was Utah.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Then after falling to ten, coming back home where they
- 8:10Speaker 1: beat Texas, and then they turn around and beat the
- 8:14Speaker 1: number two team and that was Yukon. And I think
- 8:19Speaker 1: they said they became the first team since the advent
- 8:26Speaker 1: of Poles ranking women's college basketball. They became the first
- 8:33Speaker 1: team to defeat three top five ranked schools in one
- 8:41Speaker 1: month in the month of December, since the first time
- 8:43Speaker 1: it's happened, So they've kind of they've beaten number one,
- 8:48Speaker 1: number what was Texas at the time, four, and number two.
- 8:52Speaker 1: They've beaten the number one, the number four, and the
- 8:54Speaker 1: number two team in the country. They're a good team. Yeah,
- 8:57Speaker 1: they're going to rise up the rankings, Craig. You know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: they went up from ten to eight after beating tex
- 9:05Speaker 1: right a lot. I think they moved up two spots
- 9:08Speaker 1: from ten to eight after beating Texas. Texas fell from
- 9:11Speaker 1: four to six after losing the Notre Dame, but stayed
- 9:15Speaker 1: ahead of them in the rankings. And then they turn
- 9:19Speaker 1: around and beat an unbeaten and number two ranked Ukon team.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So go figure rankings right anyway? All right, So that's
- 9:27Speaker 1: that's what's going on. Women's collegs basketball Longhorns will be
- 9:29Speaker 1: in action on Sunday afternoon in Richmond to take on
- 9:34Speaker 1: the Richmond Spiders.
- 9:35Speaker 2: It's two o'clock. You can hear that on No.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's two o'clock times a game Sunday. You can hear
- 9:40Speaker 1: it on It's one Yeah, two Easterns one o'clock. You
- 9:46Speaker 1: can hear that on one oh three point one FM,
- 9:49Speaker 1: Austin's eighties station. Roger Wallace and Kathy Harston will have
- 9:55Speaker 1: the college at one o'clock on the game on Sunday.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I was thinking that it was uh no, eleven forty.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It's noon, okay, it's o'clock eastern. I got you, okay,
- 10:07Speaker 1: one o'clock, yeah, eastern. Okay, So it's at noon. And
- 10:10Speaker 1: then of course the long warm man in action at
- 10:12Speaker 1: two o'clock against Arkansas Pine Bluff. It's a one thirty
- 10:15Speaker 1: year time here on AM thirteen under the Zone. All Right,
- 10:20Speaker 1: we've got some other pro football notes to get to
- 10:22Speaker 1: coming up next when we continue here on this Friday
- 10:25Speaker 1: afternoon on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and
- 10:27Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app.
