Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: The other day I saw a video about a guy who had a huge dream for his life, and he shared it on Instagram.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: And a large company that everybody would recognize, I promise you would recognize this company name.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: You probably have products by this company.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: This large company came across this video a few years ago, and he loved this guy's ideas, and so they ended up hiring him.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And his dreams came true because he publicly shared what it is that he really wanted most.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And the risk of doing that paid off handsomely in his case.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Now, people only see success after the fact, and they often miss the blood, the sweat, the tears, and the anxiety that comes from putting a big dream out there to begin with.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: And I've got to be honest with you, that's why I'm fairly private about my most important dreams and goals.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And if you're the kind of person who is publicly bold and brash and you'd like to put things out there, I think that the strategy of putting everything out there and being very public about what you want can definitely work wonders in the right circumstances.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: But if you're more of an introvert and you live more of a quieter life, then probably you'll be better off sharing your dreams only with a small group of people who can help you and support you.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I am much more inclined to be private about what I want, as you can probably imagine.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And then I want to work hard behind the scenes over time and enlist key people to help those dreams come true, but your mileage may vary and you may take a totally different approach.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And if that's the case, if you're the kind of person who loves to put your dreams out there publicly, be aware that when you share those dreams in a big way, people are going to instantly criticize you.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And the reason why is because most people don't take any meaningful action toward their dreams.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I know that's a harsh statement, it sounds very negative, but in my experience, it's pretty much true.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And when you share your dreams publicly and you demonstrate that you're actively moving toward those dreams, people oftentimes get triggered.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And why do they do that?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: It's because complacent people want to be surrounded by other complacent people.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And when you're no longer complacent, when you're sharing your dreams and you're taking action toward them, it really bothers those people who don't want to take action toward their dreams.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: However, the cool thing is that when you do work toward your dreams, some of those people will privately come to you and ask for your advice on how you did it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And those can be really fun conversations.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So back to the question: should you keep your dreams to yourself?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: For me personally, the answer is mostly yes.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: But that's also my personality.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Again, I'm much more of a quiet and private person, which probably explains why I'm a ghostwriter.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: But if you choose to be more public about your dreams, beware that it will probably invite negative attention, sometimes, very surprisingly, from the exact people who you thought would support you the most.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: So, whatever path you choose, whether you keep your dreams to yourself mostly or whether you share them publicly, the important thing here is you've got to go for your dreams.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
