- 1:43linebacker, Mr. Jamie Winborn. Jamie, what's up, buddy?
- 1:48What's up fellas? What's saddening man?
- 1:50I'm I'm sorry about if you can't see me as good because I had to
- 1:53get in the car. I made it though.
- 1:54I owe you guys 1 so I'm sorry about that man.
- 1:57What's going on with y'all? I want to tell you something,
- 1:59Jamie, because it seems like it's like the number one place
- 2:03for NFL footballs to do interviews.
- 2:06We had Leroy Butler on our show Hall of Famer.
- 2:09Where was he hanging out? He was hanging out in his car.
- 2:12Pete Bursick, former NFL player. Where did he hang out?
- 2:16He hang out in his car. He was heading to I, if I'm not
- 2:18mistaken, Green Bay when he was going from Minnesota to Green
- 2:21Bay driving. So it seems like it's like a
- 2:23trend for NFL players. So we're not hating you.
- 2:26We love you. And I want to get in.
- 2:29I want to get into this collusion story.
- 2:31I don't know if you've heard anything about it.
- 2:33This this story has just been an absolute debacle as far as the
- 2:38NFL is concerned. It's not one of the biggest or
- 2:40the dumbest ones we've heard over the years.
- 2:43As we all know, Deflategate was just as dumb or even stupider
- 2:46we've ever heard when the NFL was trying to find some way to
- 2:50suspend tom-tom Brady when they should have suspended him years
- 2:53ago, including the the New England Patriots.
- 2:55Your thoughts to this collusion story, my friend?
- 2:58Man, you know, it's, it's kind of, it's kind of crazy, man.
- 3:03You know, I'm, I ain't gonna lie, I ain't gonna put it past
- 3:05the NFL, man. I, I, you know, I mean, I love
- 3:07what, you know, the fraternity I'm part of and stuff.
- 3:10But you know, those guys, they got some powerful people behind
- 3:13them, man. And, you know, wherever you find
- 3:15powerful people, you find some type of corruption.
- 3:17And that's just historically, you know, within a lot of things
- 3:20in this world. And, you know, I just hate to
- 3:23have to be like this, man. You know, I thought we were
- 3:25taking a lot of steps forward and but, you know, hey, it's
- 3:30brought itself to the forefront and you know, we're going to
- 3:32have to see what happens with. You you say what's going to
- 3:35happen to it. And I don't know if you know
- 3:36Lloyd Howell. I'm sure you've met him one once
- 3:39or twice. I'm sure a lot of guys have met
- 3:41him once or twice at the strip bar.
- 3:43And then there's Mr. Treader, who has been a part of the
- 3:46organization for such a long time and a guy that doesn't like
- 3:49or maybe probably doesn't keep his little snake in his pants.
- 3:53Have you met any of these guys? Or what type of people are these
- 3:56guys if you ever met them? I mean, you know, the main guy
- 4:00I've, I've, I've dealt with is, is good deal, man.
- 4:03That's, that's, that's all I've dealt with really, man.
- 4:07And he's a straightforward guy, you know what I mean?
- 4:10But you know, all you have to do is look at the title of people,
- 4:13man, you know what I mean? Look at the job title and tells
- 4:16you who their bosses are and who who's what you know, and you
- 4:20could just follow the trend. I mean, basically how it's come
- 4:22out this time anyway, but you know, that's, that's, that's my
- 4:26main guy. You know, I, I if for me, in my
- 4:29eyes, he's a good dude. You know, he does the best he
- 4:31can do. You know, sometimes guys hands
- 4:33are tied, you know what I mean? And, you know, you got to
- 4:36understand people have a family to feed and you know, me
- 4:40standing up for something, you know, it takes a hell of a guy
- 4:44to lose their position and what they have and put their families
- 4:48at jeopardy for something that they think is is right, Jamie.
- 4:52But I mean, I don't think that we have enough people doing
- 4:54that. Jamie, I love.
- 4:56I love you. And I had to cut you off because
- 4:58you just said Roger Goodell is a good guy.
- 5:00All right, I don't know personally, I haven't sat down
- 5:02and had a conversation with him in his basement as we've heard
- 5:05that he likes to hang out in his basement and and watch whatever
- 5:09he likes to watch. Probably porno.
- 5:10I don't know. Maybe he's hanging out the strip
- 5:12bars with Treader. I don't know what Rodger Goodell
- 5:14is doing. Rodger Goodell is making $55
- 5:17million a year. He has life insurance.
- 5:21I mean, he has health insurance for him and his kids for life.
- 5:24He has his own jets from the NFL owners.
- 5:27And you're going to tell me he's a stand up guy?
- 5:29Come on, how stand up could you be?
- 5:32You're making all. That No, no, no, I mean, you got
- 5:34to look at it like this. No, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 5:36that's that's what I was saying. If the last part that I said as
- 5:39stand up as you can, as he can be, but look at the time he
- 5:43works for, he works for the Masters, he works for he works
- 5:48for the owners, I mean, for the National Football League.
- 5:51And I mean, and what is that made-up of?
- 5:53That's made-up of owners, right. So essentially, you know what
- 5:56his title is. Keep them in line, do as we say
- 6:00or lose your job. I want to move on because you're
- 6:02a defensive player and a lot of the rule changes that Roger
- 6:04Goodell and the the players you just have made really affecting
- 6:08a lot of defensive players, a lot of the ways you can tackle
- 6:10and stuff like that. You as a former linebacker, what
- 6:12are your thoughts on that? Listen, one of the one what's
- 6:14his name? Ryan John Ryan Paul Ryan.
- 6:16I forgot what his name was offensive lineman.
- 6:18He's over all of those illegal hits and fines and stuff and
- 6:22hell, he used to not he not I got a play where he just come
- 6:25cleans me up after the after the play was fell over with.
- 6:28But top bro, it's it's the same thing now.
- 6:31They're paying guys ridiculous amount of money and they just
- 6:34don't want people getting hurt. Man.
- 6:35It it's offensive game. It is what it is.
- 6:38You know, back when I played, you know, pro bowlers were
- 6:40making five $6 million, you know, in that range, you know
- 6:44what I mean? Now you got a guy, you got one
- 6:46player, one player making sixty, $60 million in a year, right?
- 6:53So as me, look, if I was the owner and the league, it's like,
- 6:57shit, yeah, we got to, we got to make sure that nobody can touch
- 7:00these guys, man. I mean, in this substance, being
- 7:02a defensive guy, because I'd like to knock the shit out of
- 7:04them. And I know the rest of those
- 7:05guys would love to, but you know, it's a big business these
- 7:09days. And it and it also protects them
- 7:10too. I mean, hell, they don't
- 7:12practice as hard as they used to practice when I played, right?
- 7:15So they're just trying to protect their investment.
- 7:17When when like as the agreement and everything else you've been
- 7:22in it, how much say does the player actually have or does
- 7:26their opinion matter when it's a new rule or something comes into
- 7:30place, like how much are you guys heard?
- 7:32Or do they just do it because they they have?
- 7:35To listen, we're just employees, bro.
- 7:38You know the owners that Boston up, they don't have to tell her
- 7:40shit. Really.
- 7:41The paper down there with that seal on it that says this is the
- 7:43new rule change. They don't have any say so at
- 7:45all. That's way above our pay grade.
- 7:47That's, that's the owners, the, the, the and, and the
- 7:51commissioner, Roger Goodell, those guys getting together
- 7:53about how to protect the money that they've spent.
- 7:56I mean, I'm, I'm paying $40 million for a receiver.
- 7:58I, I don't really want people to be touching them too much.
- 8:01You know, it's just business. That's all.
- 8:02That's all it is, man. We're just commodities out on
- 8:04the field, just just pieces. And those pieces can be
- 8:08replaced, as we have seen. You know, it's by the way, if
- 8:12anybody doesn't know or you're listening, we are talking to
- 8:14former 10 year NFL linebacker Jamie Winborn.
- 8:17He played from 2001 to 2010 for the 49ers, the Jaguars, the
- 8:23Bucks, the Broncos, the Texans and the Titans.
- 8:25Had a nice long career. 10 years is a long time.
- 8:29Speaking of defensive players, TJ Watt becomes the highest paid
- 8:33defensive lineman in NFL history.
- 8:35Very well deserved. You're watching all this money
- 8:38go to these guys. Miles Garrett got a big contract
- 8:41a little while ago. Now you're seeing TJ Watt your
- 8:44corner. You have Sauce Gardner making
- 8:45the most money out of in NFL history for corners.
- 8:49What are your thoughts to the money that is being delivered
- 8:51now to these great defensive players?
- 8:53Man, I'm happy for him, man, I'm I'm happy for the league itself.
- 8:56You know what I mean? I mean, I'm not one of those
- 8:59jealous guys. You know, we, you know, I, I
- 9:01know I had a big part and, and just helping any player that
- 9:04played in the past has a big part in helping this game get to
- 9:07where it's at today. And I'm so happy for those guys
- 9:10getting paid that amount of money.
- 9:12And I honest see, I understand the dynamics on how it got to
- 9:14that very, very well. I mean, you know, you got games
- 9:17on damn Amazon, you got all kinds of stuff, Hulu game, you
- 9:20know, you got a lot of more exposure and a lot more out a
- 9:24lot more outlets other than just NFL films, like it used to be in
- 9:27a couple of stations. So these guys, you know, the
- 9:30money's flowing bigger contracts for the owners, you know, in the
- 9:33league is slowly coming up too. So I love it.
- 9:36I mean, those guys, TJ, all those guys, man, those are some
- 9:38balling ass people, man. Those are some top notch guys.
- 9:41You know, they deserve the money they're getting, man.
- 9:43I'm happy for him. You mentioned TJ.
- 9:45Have we ever seen a brother duo dominant like JJ and now TJ?
- 9:50I mean, JJ was a great player. He was sensational.
- 9:54I wasn't a big fan of his. I thought if you look at what he
- 9:57did on a football field, he did it against really bad teams, but
- 10:00he put up some really big numbers.
- 10:02TJ is doing it against anybody. Have you?
- 10:04Have we ever two brothers dominate the defensive side of
- 10:08the ball like these two? No.
- 10:09Not at all. I mean, you know, when I think
- 10:12about it, I mean, you know, you got those guys from Green Bay, I
- 10:15believe that were brothers. I forgot their names.
- 10:17One played like the end and one linebacker.
- 10:20Matthews neither. Was dominant as as as yeah,
- 10:25yeah, yeah, and and and and, you know, obviously back when I
- 10:28played, but it was different sizes, the ball you had run that
- 10:31and then you had damn. Tiki, but that's.
- 10:34Different sides of the ball, but it's but, but, but I can't.
- 10:38I don't know if I'd put Tiki on that particular level, but he's
- 10:41a great player. Should you know, I probably have
- 10:44a chance to Hall of Fame or something.
- 10:45But yeah, these two guys, man, I mean, I'd, I'd love to see the
- 10:49damn backyard football they came up playing because good Lord, I,
- 10:53I, something's in the water with that fan.
- 10:56Somebody over there? Bro, I ain't gonna lie that like
- 10:58his brother, you know, the the fact they just they just have
- 11:02this this meanness and toughness about them that you know, you
- 11:05just can't train anybody for that shit that you either come
- 11:08out of the womb like that or you don't, you know, but both of
- 11:10them are a super, super elite another.
- 11:13Guy they got a big contract this offseason from of your team with
- 11:15the with the 49ers and Brock Purdy five years six
- 11:17$265,000,000. They just treat Debo Samuel
- 11:19doing I know Brandon I you kind of frustrated too, but what are
- 11:21your thoughts to Purdy's deal? I love.
- 11:23It it's all about the guy for the right fit, you know what I
- 11:25mean? I mean, we're hearing all this
- 11:26stuff about hurts and not being in top 10.
- 11:28All that shit don't matter, man. It's about who can run that
- 11:31offense, who's a good fit for that particular offense.
- 11:33And he is a amazing fit for he he, he, he knows what to do.
- 11:39He knows where the ball's going. He's just like, you know, he
- 11:42knows what the offense of coordinator and Kyle wants to
- 11:44do. I mean, he just, he just makes
- 11:46the right decisions and he makes and he's consistent.
- 11:49He's been that way since he started on the football field
- 11:52and that's what you're looking for, man.
- 11:53And he deserves it, man. Based on the market and
- 11:56everything, man. He got just what he deserved.
- 11:58You. Think they need What do you what
- 12:00do you think they need in San Francisco to to get it done?
- 12:04Is it something more on the defense 5 on the front five
- 12:08another weapon like what do you think you know better you you
- 12:11saw it for no they. Just they just got to fucking
- 12:14play better, bro. It's got to play.
- 12:16No, I mean it's we, we got there.
- 12:18We just you know, we just we, you know, we just got to play
- 12:21better bro. Like when we get into big games,
- 12:23we got to close it out man, you know, came to fucking going to
- 12:25overtime with guys and all that other shit.
- 12:27We can't do that. We got to get out of there.
- 12:29You get up on guys, step on her neck, don't fucking let up and
- 12:33just keep playing, you know what I mean?
- 12:34So and and health, healthiness, you know, we got to be healthy.
- 12:38Of course, you know, you the team that stays healthy the
- 12:41longest in the stretch down the you know, in the playoffs,
- 12:44that's the team that's going to have the best chance.
- 12:46You got all your weapons and people, you know, people
- 12:48available, right. I think that I don't know what's
- 12:52going on with that Iuke shit and and and parcel right now, but I
- 12:55mean that that hurt my heart, but hopefully they'll come back
- 12:57the time the season starts. But we just got to play, man.
- 13:00And and don't think about the last year's and all that other
- 13:03shit. That shit does not count right
- 13:04now. The Eagles are the reigning
- 13:06champions right now with the best ring I've ever seen in my
- 13:09life, by the way. And we just got to get to the to
- 13:13the dance, get to the playoffs, and we got to fucking perform,
- 13:16you know? You, you, you speak about the
- 13:1849ers because you played for them and, and you were mentioned
- 13:20IUK and, and, and all the stories.
- 13:22But the story that really sticks out to me as far as I'm
- 13:25concerned is how many defensive coordinators they've gone
- 13:28through over the last five years.
- 13:30I mean, ever since Sala has been gone, they've gone through so
- 13:33many of them. Wilkes was there for what, one
- 13:37year? They got rid of him and now he's
- 13:39the New York Jets defensive coordinator.
- 13:40It's like a flip flop. Wilkes goes to The Jets and
- 13:44Robert, AKA Bambi Sala, as we call him, a deer in the
- 13:46headlights, he heads back to San Francisco.
- 13:49That was the last time, I believe the San Francisco 49ers
- 13:52defense was so great. And I've spoken about this on
- 13:54the show. Is this the year if they fall
- 13:57short this year with everything that we've seen in the last
- 14:00three seasons, do the 49ers decide to part ways with Kyle
- 14:05Shanahan if they don't make the playoffs?
- 14:07That's back-to-back seasons, not making the playoffs.
- 14:10Does that, does that, you know, smell like a firing for the
- 14:1449ers if Kyle doesn't get over the hump and get them in the
- 14:17playoffs? Based.
- 14:18On Yeah, based on the way way the turnarounds going and how
- 14:23team owners want to win right now, man.
- 14:25And, you know, you're right. You know, this is a big year for
- 14:27him. You know what I mean?
- 14:29We love you, but this is a big year for you.
- 14:31But we we, you know, we're close getting I mean, he's gotten us
- 14:35into, you know, into the playoffs and all that, man.
- 14:37But I think that right now this is the year for him because if
- 14:40he doesn't get there, you know, I do think that there's a
- 14:44potential change right there. I just, I just really do.
- 14:47I just now who they will get that's going to be better than
- 14:50him is a big question that's not already with somebody is the
- 14:54question. Jamie.
- 14:55Hold on, Hold on. Better than him.
- 14:57What has Kyle Shanahan done for the organization?
- 15:00He went to two Super Bowls and choked, choked.
- 15:03He stopped running the ball in a second-half.
- 15:05He. Choked.
- 15:06Now, I hate that. I did hate that, but let me
- 15:09explain. It is it is not an easy job to
- 15:12just consistently get in the playoffs and consistently be a
- 15:15contender. That's what he's giving us.
- 15:17He's been a consistent contender as as a head coach, right?
- 15:21That's that's his thing. Just to have just that alone is
- 15:25a big deal, right, Because if you train him, you get him out
- 15:27of there, you bring some, some, some Okie doke in here that
- 15:30doesn't know what he's doing. He's only going to get one or
- 15:33two. We're going to get at the 49ers
- 15:35is an organization where you we don't give you all day to get
- 15:38your wins in those days are gone.
- 15:40Now. They want shit now they don't
- 15:42want to wait and build and all that.
- 15:44We don't do it all that. Jamie, Jamie, when was the last
- 15:46time the 49ers won a Super Bowl? Oh shit.
- 15:50Long time ago, so long time ago. So that's.
- 15:53What I'm saying, what is it? What is he brought to the 49ers?
- 15:56He hasn't brought a championship.
- 15:58He had. He choked in two Super Bowls
- 16:01because he stopped running the ball.
- 16:02Just look at what they were rated as far as off the offense
- 16:06is concerned. When he was the offensive
- 16:08coordinator over there with Atlanta, they had the best run
- 16:12the run offense in all of football.
- 16:14They are two of the best running backs in football back-to-back.
- 16:17Then you go over there to say you choke against the New
- 16:19England Patriots. They come all the way back
- 16:21because he stopped running the ball.
- 16:22Then he goes over there to the 49ers.
- 16:25The first time he met Kansas City in the Super Bowl, they had
- 16:28a chance to win that game. What did they do in the fourth
- 16:30quarter? They stopped running the ball.
- 16:32And what? And all they had to do was run
- 16:34the ball. They run the ball.
- 16:36They keep the ball out of Patrick Mahomes, his hands.
- 16:38They win the game. Then what you saw against they,
- 16:41what they did against them, who, who's the other team?
- 16:44That, that what the Kansas City, what they did against the Chiefs
- 16:46recently, what they, what did they do?
- 16:49They had the best running back in football.
- 16:51The best running back in football was up for an MVP.
- 16:54What did they do in the second-half?
- 16:56They stopped running the ball. He barely touched the ball.
- 16:59I think he touched the ball 4 * 5 times for the rest of the
- 17:02game. How do you win when your offense
- 17:04is predicated Run, run, run, Kyle, you're an idiot.
- 17:09I think Kyle Shanahan should have been fired this offseason.
- 17:13The guys have complete Jackass. Everybody has a love fest for
- 17:16him. You got fish, you got everybody,
- 17:18you had Owen. Every single person on this damn
- 17:21panel of show loves this guy and he hasn't won.
- 17:25Deadly squat I love. Listen, I'm going to be biased
- 17:28towards him regardless, right? Because I played for his dad and
- 17:32I remember him back then. So I'm always going to love him
- 17:35and and whoever's with the Niners, I'm going to love him.
- 17:37You got to understand that. I do think that he's done a hell
- 17:40of a job getting us in position. Now.
- 17:43The thing is, when we get to those playoffs, it's not just
- 17:46about a coach calling. Just run, run the ball, run the
- 17:49ball. No, we're the players, bro.
- 17:51You got to play better, y'all. There was plenty missed tackles,
- 17:54missed opportunities, all kinds of shit that went on as well.
- 17:57It's not just the coach, actually the coaches, they don't
- 18:00really do that fucking much to be honest with you, man.
- 18:03They got, they make a call. It's about those guys on the
- 18:06field, bro. They got to play better.
- 18:08When I talked to my buddy that used to that was on the sideline
- 18:11that when the Falcons, when he was with the Falcons and you
- 18:14know what he told me about the DBS and the defense over there,
- 18:18they freaking let up and he kept telling them you can't do that.
- 18:21That's Tom Brady over there. And they just thought they had
- 18:23it made right. And then they fucking lose the
- 18:25game. Hold.
- 18:26On you know, so now, now I'm not player, now I'm coming now I'm
- 18:30coming back at you on this. You want to bring up that
- 18:32Atlanta game? All they had to do in the fourth
- 18:35quarter they were up by I think 17.
- 18:38All they had to do was run the ball on 3rd down.
- 18:42Fucking. Matt Ryan.
- 18:44Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan, you're the fucking
- 18:46quarterback. You're going to get fired.
- 18:48He's not. He's calling both somebody, man.
- 18:50You're calling some bullshit. Change that shit, dog.
- 18:53I've seen quarterbacks do it. I've seen him do it.
- 18:56You think, Patrick, you caught a pass?
- 18:58Matt Ryan's a. Hall of Famer Maddie Ice is a
- 19:02Hall of Famer. You're going to blame that on it
- 19:04is. I'm not blaming it on him, but
- 19:06I'm saying listen, bro, you can make you.
- 19:09You got to take over sometimes, dog.
- 19:11That coach might not be calling them you.
- 19:13We need to run the fucking ball. Let's just one more call to run,
- 19:16man. We got.
- 19:16I know, I know what the hell going on.
- 19:18I'm in the game. We keep trying to throw it.
- 19:20We need done it. No quarterback all the time,
- 19:23man. I've seen this shit all right?
- 19:24So you need to run it. Why did you stop running the
- 19:27ball? I that doesn't make sense.
- 19:29It's so stupidity. Listen, just because the
- 19:33coaches, the coach doesn't mean he knows what the best thing to
- 19:35do. That's the fucking problem.
- 19:37Everybody think these coaches are just fucking geniuses.
- 19:40No, that fucking guy over there is just elite.
- 19:42He knows what he's doing as well.
- 19:44If he fucked up, then the coach looks stupid, right?
- 19:49If he made, I can make the coach look really good if I intercept
- 19:52the ball. Come on dog, you know how it is
- 19:56you I make an intersection for six and win the game.
- 19:59Coach didn't make that fucking call.
- 20:00He was on the sideline. So hey, sometimes the players,
- 20:03you got to play better and you can't just pick one plate now.
- 20:06You got to go back in the game, dog.
- 20:07Everybody could have did something better, man.
- 20:09It took you win as a team, you fucking lose as a team.
- 20:12That's the. Way I look at it and the coach,
- 20:14I'm not, I'm not. I can't, I can't blind put too
- 20:16much on those guys. You know, I, I, I'm not with
- 20:19that. I I players play better now.
- 20:22Let's take a dump with the team. How about that?
- 20:24How about we all line up right by the next?
- 20:26You know, Pearl, what do they call them?
- 20:27Bowls? Poor souls, whatever the hell.
- 20:30Let's sit, sit together and we'll have, we'll have Kyle sit
- 20:34between them and take a nice big rocket dump because that's what
- 20:37he smells like. Anyways, Jamie, we love you,
- 20:41man. I know you're going to have it.
- 20:43Rock game. Fucking go to a game this year,
- 20:45you know that you. Know what they're going to kick.
- 20:47Me out they're not even going to let me come to a game let's.
- 20:50Go to a game together. How about that?
- 20:51Let's let's hang out together. I'll scare the hell out of you.
- 20:55Hey, let's do it. Let's do it.
- 20:57Let's let's play it. I'll have Speedy.
- 20:59Let's go to a game together. Let's all go to a game together.
- 21:02I think it'll be freaking fun. You know, by the way, there was
- 21:04an ex NFL player, there's an ex NFL player that owes me a
- 21:08football game and Speedy, you know who I'm talking about?
- 21:10You're talking. About no.
- 21:12He's a running. Oh, you're.
- 21:13Talking Brandon Jacob from a while ago.
- 21:14Brandon. Jacobs had lost the bet with me
- 21:16about two years ago and still owes me a Jets job.
- 21:20Brandon. Yeah, Oh my God, yes fucking.
- 21:23We might have dodged a ball in that game.
- 21:24That that dude, you made a good cover.
- 21:26We might have. Dodged a ball though.
- 21:27That game was in the snow and The Jets won like 10-7 in
- 21:29overtime. Doesn't.
- 21:30Matter. They won.
- 21:30I know they won. What is Speedy?
- 21:33You always make excuses. I'm tired of your excuses.
- 21:36The Jets beat the Giants. No excuse as, as our, as Jamie
- 21:40comes out and tells us it's not about the couch.
- 21:44So we love you, Jamie. You see, I, I like to have fun
- 21:47with you. I know your, your internet's
- 21:49been on and off, but we really appreciate you joining us.
- 21:52It's not very easy. You're obviously coming on this
- 21:55crazy show and, and, and working with us.
- 21:58Really enjoy Jamie. Thank you for joining us, buddy.
- 22:00All right. Thank you man.
- 22:01Y'all. Y'all peace man?
- 22:03Jamie Winborn Anyways, we call this segment Dial it Up We.
- 22:08Interrupt this regularly scheduled hot mix to bring you
- 22:10important news. We got a big.
- 22:12Broadcast to do here. We're about to dial.
- 22:16It. Up I got the bubble gums all.
- 22:20Right, guys, welcome back to Dial It Up.
- 22:23This is everyone's favorite Lightning rounds.
- 22:26For the segment. Where we have a bunch of stories
- 22:29that Errol has not seen is going to have to dial up a tape and
- 22:32one of us will comment on what Errol has to say.
- 22:34Are you ready? Well, we start.
- 22:36Tonight's episode with Scotty Scheffler winning the Don't call
- 22:41it the British Open. It's in Ireland.
- 22:43The Open Championship, yes, I'll still call the 252025 British
- 22:49Open here in Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland.
- 22:53He led for most of the tournament after finishing one
- 22:55stroke back after day one. Here's the quote from Rory
- 22:59McIlroy, who had a real charge on the third day of the
- 23:03tournament, was not able to hold it up for day four.
- 23:06None of us could hang with Scotty this week.
- 23:09He's an incredible player. He's been dominant this week,
- 23:11honestly, he's been dominant for the last couple of years.
- 23:15He is the bar that we are all trying to get to.
- 23:18In a historical context. You could argue that there's
- 23:21only maybe two or three players in the history of the game that
- 23:26have been on a run like the one Scotty's been on here for the
- 23:30last 24 to 36 months. Incredibly impressive.
- 23:35That's a pretty, pretty high praise, Errol.
- 23:38Time to dial it up. First of all, Scotty Scheffler
- 23:42has been an an unbelievable, phenomenal player.
- 23:45If you look at what he's done in in the last couple of PGA
- 23:48tournaments, Masters he won in 2022 and 2024, PGA Championship
- 23:532025, U.S. Open 2022, and in obviously The
- 23:58Open Championship now in 2025. He has been the most dominant
- 24:02golfer over the last three seasons, Four Seasons.
- 24:06He can argue this guy's been consistent and guess what?
- 24:09New Jersey born, East Coast born, he's been one of the best
- 24:14and you're looking for the next American born player to be a
- 24:17superstar. I think Scheffler is the guy.
- 24:19I think he's been a proud guy that's gone out there and played
- 24:23the best games, the best game he could possibly go out there and
- 24:26be. And and by the way, I'm going
- 24:28back to all the greats that we've seen over the years, the
- 24:30Phil Mickelson's and the Tiger Woods.
- 24:33We're always looking for that next guy that kind of bringing
- 24:35United States golf back to the fair, you know, to the high
- 24:39points. I think Scheffler is the guy.
- 24:41He's one of those guys that are going to stand out for the the
- 24:43near future. And the future is is now for
- 24:46Scotty Scheffler. Congratulations to Scotty.
- 24:49If I recall, we can go back, we had a segment where we're
- 24:53talking about best athletes in the last, I don't know what it
- 24:55was and you, you I think that Scotty wasn't that great, blah,
- 25:01blah, blah. No, I.
- 25:01Said that he's not in my top five.
- 25:04Well, OK, but no other since Tiger, Nobody's done it.
- 25:09Phil never had a run like this. He never stayed #1 as long as
- 25:13Scotty has. And it's just, I don't know if
- 25:16you guys ever get a chance. Listen to Scotty Shepherd talk
- 25:21about golf. And he doesn't care about golf.
- 25:25No, he literally is like, why would why do I care about this?
- 25:30He asked himself, why do I care? He goes, am I grateful for this
- 25:34game because my wife thank you for working so hard because I
- 25:38love going up every day and doing, but I don't really care.
- 25:42And like just the way he approaches it is what makes him
- 25:45so good. And he can live.
- 25:48I mean, it's just it's remarkable to see somebody like
- 25:51him be this great. And then you see other guys,
- 25:55like with emotion and you know how Tiger Woods was.
- 25:58And it just, it's good for golf and it's good for the average
- 26:05dude that's not, you know, crazy in the limelight doing
- 26:09everything. Just a normal dude that chilled,
- 26:12hangs out with his family and plays golf.
- 26:13That's really what he does. But yeah, it's been super fun to
- 26:16watch it. It's kind of getting boring
- 26:18seeing him win everything. It's like you come into a
- 26:21tournament, it's not quite to Tiger level, but like, who's
- 26:25who's going to be in the top three?
- 26:26With Scotty, it was when Tiger was at his peak.
- 26:29They're like who's playing per second?
- 26:32He's in within striking distance.
- 26:33Y'all got no change. So it's been fun to see and he's
- 26:37he's done a great job for golf and people getting to know who
- 26:40he really is and he's honest about who I think people really
- 26:43love that I. Just love that he's from the New
- 26:46Jersey area, the East Coast area, and that's good for as far
- 26:50as I'm concerned, that's the matter.
- 26:51Real quick though, that's it. He's on Nathan's blue blazer and
- 26:55had to play. Ridgewood, NJ.
- 26:57That's where he's from. So he's, he's from the East
- 26:59Coast, 10. Minutes away from me yeah, it's
- 27:01a really nice town and he. Also got arrested in one, didn't
- 27:04he? Yes, he.
- 27:04Did that was that was a year that was fascinating.
- 27:06We talked about that when that happened.
- 27:09All right, let's move on. We're going into from golf to a
- 27:13record extension for TJ Watt. You mentioned it when we had
- 27:18Jamie Winborn on earlier tonight.
- 27:21Well, the Steelers and edge rusher TJ Watt agreed to a
- 27:24three-year, $123 million extension with 108 million
- 27:30guaranteed, which is the same amount of sacks Watt has in his
- 27:34career. ESP NS Adam Schefter went on
- 27:36McAfee on Monday saying they were really far apart,
- 27:39disagreeing on the length of the contract.
- 27:41I think he would have wanted four years.
- 27:43I think they like 2. They compromised him at a three.
- 27:46Steelers report to camp on Wednesday.
- 27:50Errol, biggest player on defense, now gets the biggest
- 27:54contract. Dial it all I was.
- 27:57Waiting for this contract. I, I, I couldn't believe that
- 28:00the Pittsburgh Steelers waited this long.
- 28:02This guy is the best player on that team.
- 28:04He's been the best player on that, on that or in that
- 28:07organization for such a long time.
- 28:08If you look at where he was drafted, if I'm not mistaken, he
- 28:11was drafted 30 in the first round.
- 28:13This guy fell as far as he did. He's better than his his brother
- 28:17JJ. This guy's going to go down as
- 28:19one of the top, I would say 3 or 4 defensive players ever play
- 28:23the game. He's been so dominant, not just
- 28:25for Steelers football throughout the league.
- 28:27When you talk about Miles Garrett and all these top end
- 28:30pass rushers, Michael Parsons, who wants that big time
- 28:33contract? Who's probably going to break TJ
- 28:35Watts contract because he waited so long.
- 28:37I, I, TJ has been the best 1. I don't think it is a comparable
- 28:41even thought for any of these guys.
- 28:44He has been the best player in the league for the last three
- 28:47years from from quarterback. Take away the quarterback, this
- 28:51guy has been the best player in the league, right behind Lamar
- 28:54Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes.
- 28:57If you would ask me right now, if I'm building a team right
- 29:00now, if away from the quarterbacks that I can, I could
- 29:04go after a player that's going to change my organization, it
- 29:06would be TJ Watt. He is a game changing, terror
- 29:11changing defensive lineman in this league and he changes the
- 29:14game automatically. Ask, look at what Pittsburgh's
- 29:17done. They haven't had a quarterback
- 29:19in such a long time and they make the playoffs every single
- 29:22year. Go ask everybody why they make
- 29:25the playoffs every year. Dominant defense, dominant
- 29:28playing and dominant TJ Watt. That's why.
- 29:31And by the way, always stays healthy.
- 29:33If you look at his career, besides maybe one or two
- 29:35seasons, this guy's mostly. Early in his career, he has.
- 29:38Been the most healthiest defensive lineman in all.
- 29:40Didn't. Him and Jay, they have the same
- 29:42injury. Yeah, they're packed or
- 29:44whatever. Yeah, he had a.
- 29:45Bad Pack injury. I think at the end of the 2019
- 29:48season that was the reason they collapsed and missed the
- 29:49playoffs. But I think since then, most of
- 29:52his injuries are just smaller injuries where he plays through
- 29:54them. And like you were saying, he
- 29:55plays through the injuries because he's one of the toughest
- 29:57guys in the league defense. Wins championships, yeah, and.
- 29:59This is the guy that is turning into the last 15 years the
- 30:02greatest outside rusher this generation.
- 30:04Like more of a stand up linebacker than like directly on
- 30:07the line, but could play on the line too.
- 30:08And already a Hall of Famer if you were talking tires today and
- 30:11he definitely going to get up there if he does stay healthy
- 30:13the rest of his career to levels the sack totals of what you're
- 30:16looking at probably Charles Haley and Terrell sucks,
- 30:18DeMarcus Ware, these other outside rushers that you're
- 30:21looking at is probably those best like outside linebackers
- 30:23pass rushing wise of all time. He's been that good.
- 30:25Very well deserved. I didn't know if they could get
- 30:27it done with the way that Omar Khan has been kind of up and
- 30:30down operating this offseason. Obviously he was one of the guys
- 30:33TJ Watt, they didn't want Aaron Rodgers there.
- 30:34So I wasn't sure how that relationship, but they made the
- 30:36relationship work. He always liked the ownership
- 30:38and congratulations, he's a great.
- 30:40Face that organization. By the way, he is such a good
- 30:43guy. Everything that I've heard about
- 30:44him and what he does off the field is special.
- 30:48And, and, and even he's so nasty on the football field, off the
- 30:51field, everybody says this guy is the kindest, most gentle
- 30:55person you'll ever meet. He's he's built like a friggin
- 30:58trunk too, by by the way, So at 1:00.
- 31:01Time all three brothers were in the NFL.
- 31:02Yep, I mean. They had they had JJ and TJ and
- 31:06then their third brother Derek was a full back Derek.
- 31:09Was play with a lot playing. With Pittsburgh, yeah, for a
- 31:11little bit. And then I think he was also
- 31:13with the Patriots. I believe he.
- 31:14Sucked. No offense to him, I mean.
- 31:15Yeah, it's just not a lot of place for full backs, isn't it?
- 31:18Where are you going to go with those two?
- 31:19No, it's not only. That there's like 60.
- 31:22Like your brothers were the 2 best defensive guys and you just
- 31:25played full back, you know what I mean?
- 31:27Like, but whatever, let's move on to baseball.
- 31:29This one was this story. I couldn't believe God didn't
- 31:33get more play. D Strange Gordon accused Rob
- 31:37Manfred of a revenge suspension. Yes, Dee Gordon went on the Raw
- 31:44Room podcast and made a startling accusation against
- 31:47Commissioner Rob Manfred. He said he was suspended in 2016
- 31:51for steroids after not complying with Manfred's request to allow
- 31:55an unnamed player who was up for the batting title in 2015 so he
- 32:01could win the Triple Crown. Of course, that player was easy
- 32:03to find out. It was Bryce Harper who was the
- 32:06MVP that season. Gordon went on to win the
- 32:08batting title on the last day, going 3 for four and says he was
- 32:12suspended for steroids even though he's 165 lbs soaking wet
- 32:18and has never done, would never do something like that.
- 32:21I think this is fascinating. This would have been the first
- 32:25year of Manfred as Commissioner Errol.
- 32:30I haven't heard anything about this story.
- 32:32That's why it's great. I I'm not going to I'm not going
- 32:35to think that Dee Gordon's lying about this.
- 32:37Rob Manfred's a complete ass. He's the type of person that
- 32:40would do something like this to a player and and again, Bryce
- 32:43Harper's a star. He's all about the stars.
- 32:45These commissioners are all about the stars.
- 32:47The LJA, Adam Silver and LeBron James.
- 32:50He's all about the stars. If you look at the NHL, Connor
- 32:52McDavid, what Connor says goes Connor's getting the most money
- 32:56in the NHL because he's the best player in the NHL.
- 32:58This is the the problem right now in professional sports.
- 33:01It's not Dee Gordon. It wasn't a big name.
- 33:03He's a small stature guy. Nobody gives a crappy play for
- 33:07the Marlins. Who gave a crap about the
- 33:09Marlins? The Marlins, all the
- 33:10organization for years have had so much good talent.
- 33:14Go look Josh Beckett, Pavano, you go and and then they go Josh
- 33:18Beckett was a pretty good giant, pretty good Boston Red Sox.
- 33:21I mean, Carl Pavano was horrible with the Yankees.
- 33:23But if you look at the players that the Marlins have had,
- 33:26Miguel Cabrera, remember him, He goes to Detroit and wins the
- 33:30Triple Crown. There are so many good players
- 33:32that came from the Marlins over the years.
- 33:35Dee Gordon is not one of those names that really pop out to
- 33:38you. But when you hear a story like
- 33:40this, it only tells you one thing about a guy like Rob
- 33:43Manfred or whatever the hell you want to call him.
- 33:45As Joppa says, he's a Jackass. He's a guy that doesn't protect
- 33:49or even share superstar players to the league.
- 33:52He always wants to put the the superstar in front of the no
- 33:56name players. Remember the Jose Reyes thing?
- 33:58I, I, I love that. That was a bud sealing time.
- 34:00Perfect to stand out for what the major leagues all about.
- 34:04They let players like that do something like that so they can
- 34:07win a batting title and make some more money.
- 34:09It's just pathetic. It's about marketing, though,
- 34:12isn't it? Isn't baseball struggling?
- 34:14And Manfred takes the job over. He goes, I know what I'm going
- 34:17to do. I'm going to get us Bryce
- 34:19Harper, a Triple Crown, and then we can create some buzz and we
- 34:23can make him into our superstar even though he already is.
- 34:27You know, it's, I believe it. It's because it's so stupid,
- 34:33because it's so stupid. Who cares if he he's the MVP?
- 34:37He was a he was a great player. He's one of the best players in
- 34:39the last dozen plus years. We all know who Bryce Harper is.
- 34:43Dee Gordon was also a really good player.
- 34:45He wasn't Bryce Harper. He was a unique type of player.
- 34:48He was a speedster who hit for a high average.
- 34:51Give him his due. I like, I like Bryce Harper.
- 34:54He for, for a guy that everybody expected him to be like, just
- 34:58like the next big thing. He was very overrated and and
- 35:02high praise when he got a when he came out of the draft as high
- 35:05as he did. I I think he's overrated for
- 35:08what he should have been. That's just my opinion.
- 35:10I think he's a great player, but this guy was like the next
- 35:13coming. I mean, I remember when they was
- 35:15a singing Sports Illustrated at 14 years old, his first.
- 35:17Couple years were kind of freaky, You're right.
- 35:19I just, I think since he's joined the Phillies, he's like
- 35:22surefired, yes. He's definitely better than he
- 35:24was when he was with the National.
- 35:26He had to deal with those relief pitches, too.
- 35:30He played an. Aggressive defense, though, he
- 35:32was really aggressive and now he plays first base.
- 35:34He's a little easier for him to keep it together.
- 35:37Dan, what do you look like? You want to share something
- 35:39about this once you pop on in Errol?
- 35:41The Bruce Harper won an MVP, Yeah.
- 35:45He. Did that year the world?
- 35:46Series. No, no, he won a world.
- 35:49Series No He. Never won a World Series, he.
- 35:51Would yeah, his career. No.
- 35:52No, he never won a World Series. He was the Soto Soto, the
- 35:55Nationals. Won the year after Brian the
- 35:56Phillies. Yeah, he never won with the
- 35:58Phillies, I bet. I thought he won the Phillies.
- 36:00Well, he. Did he won?
- 36:01He won with the Phillies in 2022.
- 36:03He went. There in 22, they lost to the
- 36:05Astros. They didn't win the World
- 36:07Series. They.
- 36:07Didn't win the world so. He's he.
- 36:09Didn't win the world. He played, he played in the
- 36:11world, but he. Never won in the World Series.
- 36:13He never won, Sorry, the World Series.
- 36:15All right, I start to regress of my position.
- 36:20Now. Listen, I'm not going to yell
- 36:21when I make a mistake. You will yell forever when you
- 36:24make. Listen, I, I sit here and I, I
- 36:28love messing around and I love messing around with you.
- 36:31But I when you said that when Fish said he won a World Series,
- 36:34I was like, when? I don't remember when he won a
- 36:36World Series, I don't remember he did.
- 36:38But I guess he was. You know what?
- 36:40He left, he left the nationals and then they won Soto.
- 36:43Soto was. Yeah, I know.
- 36:44But didn't he? I thought the Phillies won one
- 36:47after no they. Lost to Houston in 2022.
- 36:49There you. Go all right, Well, I mean, and
- 36:52they're fully honest, but regardless, he was.
- 36:54NLCS MVP that year? Harper, but he did not win the
- 36:57World Series. Makes the sense.
- 37:01I'll still say he's kind of a great player, like has
- 37:04limitations and be like like for pitches, right?
- 37:07I can't be a starter. I'll just be an awesome reliever
- 37:09because I can throw tunings at 1,000,000 miles an hour or like,
- 37:13hey, listen, I used to be able to run like a deer in the
- 37:14outfield, but now I'm kind of slowing up so I'll play first
- 37:17base. Like that's normally like look
- 37:19at Robin Yao, like that guy was a center field that became a
- 37:23shortstop, right? Or like Paul Molitor, who was
- 37:25like outfit became ADH sometimes and they're both Hall of
- 37:28Farmers. Like you need to sometimes go
- 37:30listen and I'm slowing down so let's make the let's take the
- 37:35best way to do and maximize it. Like that's smart.
- 37:39And so, yeah, I mean, I'm. Not saying he's not a great
- 37:43player, Dan, a career player, a 281 hitter, but if you look at
- 37:48his career as a player, he was expected to be like Aaron Judge,
- 37:52that type of good. Aaron Judge was not drafted as
- 37:55the number one pick. That's what he was expected.
- 37:58To be I respect your opinion, but I'd like to talk to the guy.
- 38:00You guys are actually pro major leaguers for a second like like
- 38:05so like you guys younger than me because I'm old as shit, but
- 38:08like you guys like I heard you guys play video games when
- 38:11you're growing up being like, oh, I played like, you know,
- 38:13techno bowl or whatever, like I played RBI baseball like what
- 38:19happened to because this is AI was looking at.
- 38:21I went to the Mets game yesterday and I watched them
- 38:24barely win against a bad team, but I'm like there's 1300 hitter
- 38:30National League currently today. What the fuck is that about?
- 38:35Because like I don't know, see like years ago there were like
- 38:3815 guys hitting 320 plus and now there's like one dude.
- 38:43It's almost like he's in an island of like what's wrong with
- 38:46this guy? Like, like, why is it that
- 38:49hitting used to be you had to 3/20/50 home runs, 120 RBIs or
- 38:54even back in like the 80s before stairways hit 320, 103 RBIs like
- 39:00that era vanished. And I don't know why this when
- 39:05I'm watching the match yesterday, they put up on the
- 39:07players, the OPS and they're like this guy's OPS is 517.
- 39:10I'm like, that guy shouldn't be in baseball.
- 39:13So like like your your PS is like everything you do is barely
- 39:18half get the fuck out. Like if that was my company and
- 39:22I had a guy was like, listen, I punch holes in paper.
- 39:25I hit about right half the time. Get the fuck out.
- 39:27You don't belong here. Like So what happened where like
- 39:30madly, like Errol said before, 35343 home runs, 145 RBIs in 85
- 39:38and now you're like a first base.
- 39:39He's like, well, he had 260 MVP cabinet.
- 39:43What happened? Pitching's gotten way better,
- 39:47man. That's how that's how it is.
- 39:49And they've changed and the hitters have changed their
- 39:50approach from basically slicing the ball in half to trying to
- 39:55create launch angle to hit more home runs because homers pay.
- 39:59So if a guy goes out and hits 35 homers and bats 220 is
- 40:03incredible. But if a guy goes out and hits
- 40:05whatever 260-5270 with like 12, it's like.
- 40:10That's like. Carl Schwarber, you know, and
- 40:11then they show up in the postseason.
- 40:13Same thing with Stanton. They show up in the postseason
- 40:15and and you know that he can go deep at any point.
- 40:18But the pitching is what is like what I talked about Mesorowski,
- 40:21they got throws 102 miles an hour.
- 40:23Like do you think in 1990 and 2000 guys were just blowing 100
- 40:27on average, the average fastball?
- 40:29And I'm sure he can. Like like, like, like no one
- 40:32threw 100 and 1978. But that's a whole different
- 40:35thing. But but then the second party is
- 40:37like, so pitchers as have always thrown hard.
- 40:40I mean, like some guys are, you know, off the charts.
- 40:43Like Chapman throws 105 sometimes, which I don't know, I
- 40:46don't know what to bat against that.
- 40:48But the other part is that then if that's the case, then why are
- 40:53there no pictures or areas like point O 4 or point like 9-2 like
- 40:58every pictures got you know it's like 3 1/2.
- 41:01Last year we had Emmanuel, Class A who had like a .71 as a
- 41:05reliever out of the out of the bullpen and he throws 100 on our
- 41:08cutters, doesn't strike a lot of guys out, but he still produces.
- 41:12So I mean, it's there. Eras I think are are lower, but
- 41:17with a higher velocity, you have more chance to admit you, you
- 41:19have more chance for air, you have a higher chance for air not
- 41:22getting thinged up versus the guys who throw 90 to 90.
- 41:25Probably 9094 now is probably considered pretty average, if
- 41:30not slow. And guys, if you miss at 909090
- 41:34to 94, you're getting touched. It's a it's a different game.
- 41:38The game is just evolved. That's that's all it is.
- 41:40It's the game is evolved and the hitters are the hitters
- 41:44approaches are much different than they were in the 90s.
- 41:46Like there's a guy, what's his name, Freddy Freddido or what?
- 41:50Something on Twitter, I think. What's his name?
- 41:53Freddy Frieda. The guy who talks about hitting,
- 41:57he's he's. FRIETA, it's like he's got a
- 42:02he's got a dash in his name, yeah.
- 42:04But he's he, that's not his real name.
- 42:06Like his real. He's actually.
- 42:07Yeah. So he talks about the swing or
- 42:11the the teacher man and then go to hit hitting coach, how he
- 42:14wants to whip the bat back and all this and.
- 42:18Yeah, yeah. They blast each other on social
- 42:20media because that's the new approach and it's leading to
- 42:24more homers, but a a much less adding average where back in the
- 42:29day it was let's focus online drives and if you mis hit it and
- 42:33it goes out of the park, well, then you mis hit it and it goes
- 42:35out of the park for a Homer. And now guys are actively trying
- 42:38to hit homers. Well, the.
- 42:39Average is taken away, like Schwarber had 200 blocks, 200
- 42:43strikeouts and hit them below them and dozing like 198.
- 42:46Thing goes out and balls out. You're going to take that
- 42:49because it's OPS is so different.
- 42:51They're going to take the more analytical approach.
- 42:54Yes, it is. Is it nice to hit 350?
- 42:57But if you're hitting 350 and 50, it's a you're just
- 43:00different. And that that just doesn't
- 43:02happen anymore. Just pitching has gotten better.
- 43:05The analytics have changed. And then from the pitching side,
- 43:07it's like, what's your spin rate?
- 43:08What's your horizontal vertical? But yeah, there's it's just the
- 43:12the game changing and it's it's part of it.
- 43:15So it's like strikeouts are going to be up, homers are going
- 43:18to be up. That's just the way it is.
- 43:19All right. Let's Dan, we got to cut you off
- 43:21on this. I got this.
- 43:22I. Got to follow up.
- 43:23I got this follow up then you can go on.
- 43:25But I follow up, right? So if that's the case, why don't
- 43:27the pictures have lower eras? Because they're still making
- 43:31mistakes and they're still in the major leagues, and those are
- 43:33more. And not everybody throws those
- 43:34100. And eventually hitters will time
- 43:36that up. If you see a hundred a couple
- 43:39times in a row, like if Nathan Eval, he's a good friend of
- 43:42mine, but his 100 doesn't play like 100.
- 43:44You know, like some guys fastballs play different.
- 43:47Some guys fastballs play up a 92 that with like 20 inches of
- 43:51vertical break is going to play up to 95.
- 43:53And actually hold played longer to where it looks like the balls
- 43:55actually rising versus a guy who throws 100 with let's say 12
- 44:00vert and 12 horizontal. It's considered a dead red
- 44:03fastball. Even though it's 100 miles an
- 44:05hour, it's a dead red fastball and hitters are trained to see
- 44:08that that over time. There was a guy back back in the
- 44:11day like when the Yankees were really elite, like around the
- 44:14time you were playing their job. Billy Koch was a reliever like
- 44:18that for the Blue Jays. Bounced around a little bit of
- 44:20closer for a little bit. He threw 100, but it was
- 44:23straight As as an arrow every single time.
- 44:25And people killed that guy. And that was before everyone was
- 44:28throwing 100. But let's move on.
- 44:30We got to get to the next one. Let's go to basketball and yes,
- 44:33that is you, the Golden Boy from Duke on Canoople, the Summer
- 44:37league MVP. The Charlotte Hornets defeated
- 44:41the Sacramento Kings 83 to 78 Sunday to win the NBA Summer
- 44:45League championship. Number four overall pick on
- 44:48Canoople was named Summer League MVP with a 21.5 rebound effort
- 44:52in the championship game in Vegas.
- 44:54Canoople joins the such luminaries such as Jalen Wilson,
- 44:58Cam Whitmore, Keegan Murray, Davion Mitchell and Cam Thomas
- 45:02as VPS of the Summer League since the pandemic.
- 45:06Canopal joins a Hornets roster headlined by Lamello Ball and
- 45:10Brandon Miller that is likely destined for another season in
- 45:13the draft lottery despite a down Eastern Conference.
- 45:17So your boy Errol. He's not my boy, OK?
- 45:23I know he's a Duke Blue Devil and I like Canoople.
- 45:25I think he could be a good player and I think he could be a
- 45:27good addition for the Hornets. But look, the Hornets win the
- 45:32championship for the summer league.
- 45:34Who cares? Remember, the Lakers won the
- 45:37tournament last year. Remember that stupid in in
- 45:40season tournament, they win, they win that and they barely at
- 45:44one point make the playoff, though they made the playoffs.
- 45:46They she has a fourth seed. That's only because of LeBron
- 45:49James, Luka Dodge in the second-half of the season.
- 45:52I honest to God, I think Canoopa and the Mellow Ball are going to
- 45:55be good players, but they're going to be an all shooting
- 45:57team. I don't know how long that's
- 45:59going to work. And I, I'm interested to see
- 46:01what his brothers are going to be.
- 46:02I think all four brothers could be NBA players.
- 46:04They have a swarm of talent from that family.
- 46:07But I, I, I think Canoopa should have waited another year before
- 46:12he get went into the NBA. Obviously he was one of the best
- 46:15shooters. He was the best shooter coming
- 46:17out of the draft. So everybody expects him to be a
- 46:19good player. We'll see how he develops.
- 46:20The NBA is very different. If you're a good shooter in the
- 46:23NBA and you can work, you can you have a pretty good release
- 46:27and a fast release. Like this kid reminds me, if he
- 46:29turns out to be this guy, he's going to be a great player.
- 46:32He's just not a good defender like this guy, that's Klay
- 46:34Thompson. His release and the way he
- 46:37releases the ball is just like Klay Thompson.
- 46:39Watch his shooting technique and watch Klay Thompson almost
- 46:42identical the way they shoot the ball.
- 46:45But Klay Thompson's a good two way player.
- 46:48This guy doesn't play a lick of defense.
- 46:50That's the difference. And by the way, if Cooper Flagg
- 46:53was actually playing throughout the summer league, he wins the
- 46:56MVP. The Dallas Mavericks are a
- 46:59stupid organization trying to take away the one American
- 47:03superstar that's going to hold the American flag up and be the
- 47:07face of Team USA Basketball for the future.
- 47:11What a crock. The wrong Duke.
- 47:12No devil, I don't. Know if it's Klay Thompson that
- 47:15I see when I watch him, I'm just shocked.
- 47:17Before I get into that, I have a different dookie that I'm going
- 47:20to compare him to. But before I do that, Reddick.
- 47:24It's. Your 4th pick?
- 47:25No, it's not Reddick. It's your 4th pick.
- 47:28You came out at the right time because let's face it, Canopy is
- 47:31not getting higher than that in next year's draft.
- 47:33It's. Going to be a loaded.
- 47:34Draft. It's going to be a loaded draft.
- 47:36You would. Have no way.
- 47:37His athletic profile rates in the top five next year.
- 47:41I disagree. No way.
- 47:42I disagree. I I think that another year
- 47:44under that offense, with the talent that they have over there
- 47:47and his shot shooting ability, he's going to score 2530 points
- 47:50for the Duke Blue Devils, maybe wins the national player of the
- 47:53year. That's how good player.
- 47:54I like his size, a great shot. His size reminds me of a
- 47:57different Duke guy, and that's Kyle Singler.
- 48:00Singler had a great shot coming into the league.
- 48:03No, no, listen, he was a really good player.
- 48:05He had mental problems and we saw what happened to him.
- 48:07We did a thing on him a year ago.
- 48:09He was like homeless or something like that.
- 48:11He's got a lot of issues, but he was fringe, you know, going to
- 48:16be like on the verge of possibly being on the way to an All Star
- 48:20game one year. He really was.
- 48:22He was really good, ladies. And gentlemen, I'm sorry to cut
- 48:25you off. Ladies and gentlemen, when you
- 48:26have a chance to watch Canoople shoot and go and look, Klay
- 48:29Thompson, almost identical releases.
- 48:32The way they shoot the ball, go look at it very fast, very quick
- 48:36release. The way they jump and they shoot
- 48:38the ball. Unbelievable jump shot.
- 48:40It's one of the best jump shots I've seen come out of the draft
- 48:43since Klay Thompson. It's it's the release, the
- 48:46release point if he. Could play defense half as good
- 48:48as Klay. He's not.
- 48:50I mean, he's not that, but that's the.
- 48:52Thing with with Charlotte though, they draft guys that
- 48:54don't play defense, they're not going to be good.
- 48:56So they're going to get another really high lottery pick next
- 49:00year. I don't know if he's worth #4
- 49:02like you're saying, Errol, I agree with you that but he got
- 49:04paid the four number four money. So I think it's the right move.
- 49:07You can always develop while you're sitting on the bench in
- 49:09the NBA. If you have to come off the
- 49:10bench your first year, he's going to.
- 49:12That skill set plays in the NBA. We all know that he can play
- 49:15halfway decent defense. He'll be playing a long time.
- 49:17We got one story left. It was mentioned earlier by
- 49:23different guests I believe. Here's the Eagles Super Bowl
- 49:26rings. Yes, it makes me sick just to
- 49:29look at them, but it might be the coolest ring I've ever seen.
- 49:33All right, they revealed to the public 41 millimeter ring, 12
- 49:35carats in diamonds in total, covered in white gold and green
- 49:40sapphires. Our Super Bowl.
- 49:43Geez, what was it? Super 59 Championship ring
- 49:46represents the commitment, determination and sacrifice of
- 49:50every member of our organization who helped deliver another world
- 49:53championship for Eagles fans everywhere.
- 49:55This is Jeffrey Lurie, Eagles owner and CEO.
- 49:59From the start of training camp, our celebration on Broad to our
- 50:03celebration on Broad Street, this team was deeply connected
- 50:06on every level. Our players, coaches and front
- 50:08office staff all work so tirelessly throughout the season
- 50:12to raise another Lombardi Trophy.
- 50:13On behalf of the Philadelphia Eagles, I'd like to thank Jason
- 50:16of Beverly Hills for the expertise and craftsmanship
- 50:18around the design of this truly magnificent ring.
- 50:21It will forever serve as a reminder of just how magical the
- 50:262024 season was for our organization and fans.
- 50:33Errol, dial it up. First of all, congratulations to
- 50:37the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, it deserved.
- 50:39I love that your man, yes, Saquan Barkley is going to earn
- 50:43himself a nice beautiful ring to shine bright and it's not going
- 50:47to have a giant emblem on it. All I could say about this is I
- 50:52can't wait to hear Nick Siriani brag about this one when he
- 50:55flosses and he dances and prances around the football
- 50:58field when the season starts and he gets handed that wonderful
- 51:01ring on Thursday Night Football. Well deserved.
- 51:04I'm so excited to see the Philadelphia, you know,
- 51:07Philadelphia Eagles earn their rings and shine it bright on
- 51:12Thursday night, the first game of this season.
- 51:15Congratulations to the one and only Philadelphia Eagles.
- 51:19Yeah, I just got to say it's it's great the fact that they
- 51:21got those rings that Saquon came to where he truly always
- 51:24belongs. The Penn State boy, Pennsylvania
- 51:26boy, He came. Back to Pennsylvania he wanted.
- 51:28To Philadelphia like he always should have not with those lame
- 51:32ass giants that no one cares about.
- 51:34He was developing since really 20, you know, 15 or whatever.
- 51:38But you know came here he won the championship and you know, I
- 51:41love the quote there on the exterior of the ring right
- 51:43there. You can't be great without the
- 51:45greatest mothers referenced a lot by Jalen Hurts too.
- 51:47This really was a team win. You know, underdog mentality
- 51:51from the first ring was great, but this one felt like, you
- 51:54know, we were really a team that came together.
- 51:56They worked hard all year. And I believe a very cool,
- 51:58interesting fact about the ring is I think they said there was
- 52:00about 155 diamonds in the ring, which is about how many points
- 52:05the team's 12 carats. 12 carats, Yeah.
- 52:07What was that? Yeah, so again, there's another
- 52:11great look at it. And then, you know, I'll say,
- 52:13Fish, you are lucky that the Giants don't open the Eagles
- 52:15home opener. So I am kind of happy that it is
- 52:17Dallas. They get to watch the banner
- 52:19drop as the Eagles just received their rings this summer.
- 52:22And they have to just suffer and watch because, you know, of
- 52:25course, the last time they won the championship, they had to
- 52:27watch them on VHSS because they're irrelevant.
- 52:29Poverty franchise, just like the Giants.
- 52:32Yeah, congratulations to the Philippines.
- 52:34Now you, you would be nice. Now you're going after my jets.
- 52:38No, he's going. After the Cowboys.
- 52:40Jets. I thought you said The Jets.
- 52:42No, no. No, the Giants.
- 52:45Alright, I love you again. I love you again.
- 52:48We're talking. About.
- 52:49We're talking about the. Eagles and the rest of the NFC
- 52:51lease, that's what we're talking about.
- 52:53I will sleep. Don't sleep on the Giants this
- 52:56year, man. Don't sleep on us, please.
- 52:58First of all, I can't wait, you know, 1020 years from now how
- 53:02many players are going to sell that ring because how much that
- 53:06ring is going to cost on the market when somebody is well
- 53:09ready to try to make They lost so much money in betting and
- 53:12gambling and they need something to deliver, deliver whatever
- 53:16there they lost of these by the way, who's.
- 53:18The first eagle to sell their ring.
- 53:20Big Dom. Oh God.
- 53:22No, no, we assume. Big Dom's going to need the
- 53:24money first, No? After he's in Siriani have a
- 53:27following. He's got those.
- 53:28He's got those mafia ties, I. Wouldn't be surprised.
- 53:31I wouldn't be surprised if the Philadelphia Eagles give Jason
- 53:34Kelsey a ring, even though he wasn't a part of the team.
- 53:37I wouldn't be surprised if he gets one because he's been such
- 53:40an important piece to that organization all those years.
- 53:43I wouldn't be surprised if he gets one.
- 53:44I'm just saying so he. Might have been, I think that
- 53:47that's fair to say. But personally to me, I think
- 53:49it's like if you're a player, you deserve it the most.
- 53:51And like, even though he is a great fixture, you're in a
- 53:53great, you know, representation of the team and he's a great,
- 53:56you know, spokesman. I think it's just you keep it to
- 53:58the players. It's kind of more legendarily,
- 54:00look, he and Fletcher Cox, I'm a do you know?
- 54:03Do you know the Water boys, junior?
- 54:05Too short, do you know? The water boys, they get a ring,
- 54:08you know that. But there's different levels.
- 54:10There's an AB and C ring. Would you get a buy a ring from
- 54:15your guy Cam Jerkins? Oh.
- 54:17Yeah, I mean, small town Nebraska boy, what a what a
- 54:20great dude. Like you got to learn behind the
- 54:22best, right? So yeah, no, it's it's I've
- 54:26never, I mean, I've seen where the the top comes off, but like
- 54:29the wings coming out. I mean, it's I'm not
- 54:31spectacular, but it's pretty sweet.
- 54:33Like it, it really is. Like I I think about my rings
- 54:37and I'm just like, man, ours suck.
- 54:41Like these, these, these are way better and obviously we know
- 54:46designed them so that's why they're boring.
- 54:48So I feel like. They always got like like
- 54:52obnoxiously huge over the years. Like they probably back more in
- 54:56the day. The champion rings were a little
- 54:57bit more this simple in design, but they've got like crazier and
- 55:01crazier as they've gone along. And I even thought when I first
- 55:03saw I was like, wow, that's a really big ring.
- 55:04But then it makes sense when you see the wings pop out.
- 55:07They probably had to design it around that too.
- 55:09So like I'm like, OK, that makes sense for the size for it, but
- 55:12I'm like even wearing it then I'm like, I don't know how much
- 55:14you would want to wear because it's a big ring.
- 55:16It's. A nice Yeah, they.
- 55:18They have them go like all the cross and you see how they just
- 55:21steadily get bigger and keep. And then there's some I'm like,
- 55:24dude, that's a paperweight. That's not like, that's not
- 55:27real, is it? It's like, it's like the the
- 55:29modern day iPhone, they're just gonna get bigger and bigger
- 55:31until you're carrying around an iPad well.
- 55:33Please, you enjoy it. So Jake, you know, by the way,
- 55:36your team so great, there's no chance that they're not gonna
- 55:38that anyone's gonna get hurt this year.
- 55:40And just you know that they may not repeat like it's a
- 55:43guaranteed repeat. Probably undefeated season,
- 55:46ladies. And gentlemen, I want to thank
- 55:47Danny for joining us. I'd like to thank our guests
- 55:50because they were sensational, every single one of them,

- 56:34Wednesday. Spudo, we have on.
- 56:35All right. Joining the show again for the
- 56:37first time in a couple of years, 8:45 will be our friend Bashar
- 56:39Breeland, former Commanders, Chiefs, Vikings cornerback at
- 56:428:45. And then to be determined on
- 56:44time is our friend, Mr. Jim Lehrer, I.
- 56:46Want to say something? Bashar Breeland.
- 56:49The last time he was on his show, I had to get a lot out of
- 56:52him, and it took a while to get him open.
- 56:54And then two weeks after we interviewed him, he was
- 56:57arrested. For what?
- 56:59What did he? Jeff told us at the time you had
- 57:01some kind of, some kind of drug arrest.
- 57:03He. Got a drug arrest he had like a
- 57:05machine gun. He was caught with a machine gun
- 57:08and and, and we read the story. It was absolutely crazy and and
- 57:11Breeland was fantastic on the show.
- 57:13I remember. I remember that was at the time
- 57:15the Giants eat a lot of corners. I was trying to recruit him to
- 57:17come to the Giants. Yeah.
- 57:18So it was. And then and then Pete, Pete
- 57:20Burstick, we had on like. Perfect for the Giants 'cause
- 57:22you had time, yes. No, you know why it would have
- 57:24been perfect? Because you had another guy
- 57:26that, you know, had a dead body in his basement because of his
- 57:30good old bro Jackrabbit. Yeah, the Jackrabbit.
- 57:32Remember that story? Yeah, that was crazy.
- 57:37He had a. Couple of good years.
- 57:37He was pretty good in coverage, yeah.
- 57:39So was, so was basically. I'd cover ups apparently too.
- 57:44I said he was good. They, his brother wrapped the
- 57:46dead body in his basement and put it in the corner.
- 57:48Nobody saw it. Nobody saw a dead body in the
- 57:51corner. These things happen.
- 57:52Yeah, I'm sure it does. He was definitely jumping over
- 57:55it, if you know what I mean. Well, they.
- 57:56Happen. Yeah, they have, definitely.
- 57:58Hiding a dead body for a week or two in his basement.
- 58:01How do you not? Yeah, I figure.
- 58:05Anyways, thank you to all the fans.
- 58:07And again, we'll be back on Wednesday.
- 58:08It was a great show. All right, goodnight.
- 58:10Farewell. We're gone.
