Transcript
- 0:00We're joined by Luke Murray here court side the assistant coach. Well, now
- 0:04I know what it's like to be a meat grinder. That was that wasn't
- 0:08easy. Yeah, but Husky's prevailed. It took everything you had, and
- 0:13I mean that's what you expect, right when you face Providence, one of
- 0:16the one of your real rivals in this league. Yeah, I mean I
- 0:19think we're pretty disappointed, you know, honestly with how we played. You
- 0:22know, give credit to Providence. They're a really good defensive team. You
- 0:26know, they're a top ten team in Ken Palm defensive efficiency. So we'll
- 0:30give them a lot of credit for the way that they guarded. But I
- 0:33didn't think we had the right approach to start the game. I thought we
- 0:35were really laxa days coal in the first four or five minutes of the game.
- 0:39And then you know, we missed a ton of open shots. You
- 0:41know, Cam and Alex in particular, had some really good looks that I
- 0:44think could have made the game a little different. Yeah. The rebounding,
- 0:47now, in the first half was key. They they out rebounded you by
- 0:50nine I believe if I'm right about this, But you bounce back in the
- 0:54second half twenty eight thirteen. The advantage on the boards, How important was
- 0:57that? How did you get control of the boards in the second half.
- 1:00Yeah, well, I mean, you know, they had five offensive rebounds
- 1:03at the first media timeout, you know, so they were just quicker to
- 1:04the ball to start the game, and I thought, more ready to play.
- 1:07We cleaned that up for the most part. They had seven at the
- 1:10half. You know, we're missing a lot of shots obviously, so that
- 1:12opens up a lot of defensive rebounding opportunities for them. I thought the key
- 1:15for us was our job on the offensive glass. You know, in the
- 1:19first half, we only got nineteen percent of our missus back. In the
- 1:22second half, you know, we got over forty five percent of our missus
- 1:25back, So we were much more active getting second shots, putting ourselves in
- 1:27position to get fouled. So I just think our our intensity and our effort
- 1:32level jumped. Yeah, and Klingon gets in foul. Everyone was follow troubler,
- 1:36buddy, guys in follow trouble. But he has to sit out sixteen
- 1:38minutes in the first half to get to halftime. Will elide? Was that
- 1:44an accomplishment in your mind? Was that a victory in some ways? I
- 1:47mean, you're really without the guy for sixteen minutes there. Yeah, I
- 1:49mean, I guess so, I mean it's better than the alternative. But
- 1:53you know, again, I think we did some things to put ourselves in
- 1:56a position where it was so nip and tuck in that first half, you
- 1:57know, and Donovan and that second foul. You know, I got to
- 2:01get a look on it on film. But you know, we were just
- 2:04late. We were late reacting. I just didn't think we did a great
- 2:07job of really being attentive at the start of the game, and we put
- 2:09ourselves in a position where we fouled. But it was nice to see us
- 2:13be able to work through some of that. We played Alex a little bit
- 2:15at the five, and then he went out. You know, first play,
- 2:16he's he's at center, he's got castro on, enemy drives right around
- 2:20him, gets fouled at the rim, and then he's out for the next
- 2:22you know, eight or nine minutes or whatever it was. So, you
- 2:23know, it was a tough game to kind of work through, but obviously
- 2:27we're happy to get to win. You know, Luke Murray with us the
- 2:30you kind of assistant. Sometimes adversity is a good thing. I know,
- 2:32I know, it's not good for your heart, it's not good for your
- 2:38not good for your nerves. But to win a game where you got to
- 2:40grind it out and you got to make free throws and you gotta find a
- 2:44way and you got to you know, defend or whatever it takes. I
- 2:46mean, doesn't that stuff add up a little bit as the season goes on.
- 2:51Yeah, I mean, you know again, it's it's the nature of
- 2:53the Big East. You know, it's the nature of college basketball. You
- 2:54know, you got these tough, competitive games, and they're not always going
- 2:59to be you know, the way that you draw them up in terms of
- 3:00playing beautiful offense or beautiful defense and you know, making every shot. So
- 3:05you just have to be able to show a little bit of fortitude and work
- 3:07through some of these. And you know, again, I think we're disappointed
- 3:09because you know, it's not really who we are. You know, a
- 3:13seven assist game, having more turnovers and assists, right, you know,
- 3:15just some of the things that we really pride ourselves on. But again,
- 3:19give them credit for the way that they defend, but we know we got
- 3:22to be we got to be better. On Saturday. Yeah, I was
- 3:23gonna say this This is the kind of thing that sets you up for what
- 3:27you got to do on Saturday. Now you're playing in front of nineteen thousand
- 3:30that are not going to be rooting for you. There'll be a lot of
- 3:31YU Conference, don't get me wrong, but you know there's going to be
- 3:35about eighteen thousand not rooting for you. So in a sense, winning a
- 3:38game like this two or three days ahead of going there, can that help?
- 3:44Yeah? I mean I think it's got to be a wake up call
- 3:46for us a little bit, you know. I mean not that we took
- 3:49anything for granted, but it's just we have to be at our absolute best,
- 3:52you know, you just have to every night, and we weren't tonight
- 3:57for large stretches of the game. I thought we showed grit and some toughness,
- 4:00but you know, our execution has to be better. And you know,
- 4:03I don't know if I'm ready to give up the eighteen thousand yet,
- 4:05Mike. I think it's gonna be a little bit better than that, But
- 4:09you know, we'll see. I mean, they're a good team. You
- 4:11know, they had a tough game with Xavier on the road in Cincinnati.
- 4:14It was nip and tuck and Xavier pulled away late, so obviously they present
- 4:17challenges. He's a great coach and they've got some trific players. Yeah.
- 4:19Well we're looking forward to that coach. We appreciate it. A win's a
- 4:24win is a win as far as I know. Yeah, I guess I
- 4:27would have to. I got you to admit it. Yeah, that is,
- 4:29in fact a win. All right, it's nine in a row.
- 4:30Way to go to it, all right, Thanks Luke Murray with us
