- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time presented by
- 0:08Speaker 1: Prize Picks. My name is Bomani Jones. Thanks for listening
- 0:11Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:19Speaker 1: a hater. It is Foxworth Thursday. W. Foxworth, what's going on?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Not much, man.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I'm happy we can get it in before this Thursday
- 0:27Speaker 3: night game. We can talk about that.
- 0:29Speaker 2: That's right.
- 0:30Speaker 1: By the way, for the people who are noticing, yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 1: your boy done come back. We're going to have more
- 0:34Speaker 1: Dominique than we had before. The single best thing to
- 0:36Speaker 1: happen to this show in the last year. Just throw
- 0:38Speaker 1: that out there. We are always glad to have you.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And he's right. We got a Thursday night game.
- 0:42Speaker 1: See, we used to record these on Thursday with a
- 0:46Speaker 1: Thursday night game, and then it didn't come out until Friday,
- 0:49Speaker 1: which always made things a little bit weird.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But now that we've changed the schedule, we lose the alliteration. But.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Where it's early in the season. So the Thursday night
- 0:58Speaker 1: games are still intriguing. It isn't really until like week
- 1:01Speaker 1: eight or nine that it's kind of like, I don't
- 1:03Speaker 1: even want to watch that.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I realized that I was excited to have the opportunity
- 1:07Speaker 3: to talk to you about the Thursday night games. But
- 1:09Speaker 3: as you were talking, it also reminded me that.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Those constraints aren't always good for us.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Sometimes when we feel like we have to stay on
- 1:18Speaker 3: some sort of subject, we don't get to the good stuff.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But we'll get used to the new patterns. Don't you worry.
- 1:24Speaker 2: We'll talk about Israel-Palestine before it's all over. We got time.
- 1:27Speaker 2: There's room for it.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Yay!
- 1:32Speaker 2: Bob Craft made it football. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:35Speaker 2: We'll get there. And I tell you this, that's a
- 1:37Speaker 2: motherfucking cliffhanger right there. It's a bunch of people like,
- 1:40Speaker 2: will this be the day? And the answer is no. Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I mean, hopefully it won't be the day that I
- 1:49Speaker 2: do it either. No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It's a team effort, baby. Teamwork makes the dream work.
- 1:53Speaker 1: One thing you know about me, dog, I ain't going
- 1:55Speaker 1: to let you go out like that.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Oh, no. I trust you. You looked out for me
- 1:58Speaker 2: in the past. I know you look out for me
- 2:00Speaker 2: in the future.
- 2:01Speaker 3: And, yeah, the decisions that are being made are not
- 2:04Speaker 3: going to be made as a result of me doing
- 2:06Speaker 3: anything dumb or my man letting me do anything dumb.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Nope, nope. Not for clicks. Not for clicks. Don't need
- 2:11Speaker 2: it that bad.
- 2:11Speaker 1: But we do have America's team, my guys, the Detroit Lions,
- 2:16Speaker 1: tonight against... America's quarterback, shall we say, Josh Allen and
- 2:22Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills. They are opening their new stadium in Buffalo.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I find it a little weird to open the stadium
- 2:26Speaker 1: on a Thursday. I would think that you would want
- 2:28Speaker 1: that to be a Sunday. I don't know if they
- 2:31Speaker 1: think that'll make more people want to watch it on.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Television, but.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Dominique, we were talking about this before the show, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: this will be a theme of this show, which is
- 2:40Speaker 1: teams playing for their seasons, because that's the thing that
- 2:43Speaker 1: makes the NFL dope is it's not crazy to say
- 2:45Speaker 1: in week two that a team is playing for their season.
- 2:47Speaker 2: If you go down 0-2, it's really bad news.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The history has indicated it's almost guaranteed that you're not
- 2:54Speaker 1: going to win the Super Bowl.
- 2:55Speaker 2: If you go down 0-2, you're not going to go.
- 2:58Speaker 1: The playoffs would be harder if they hadn't added that
- 3:01Speaker 1: little extra participation team thing.
- 3:04Speaker 2: On the end of it, you know what I'm saying?
- 3:05Speaker 2: But like, it really matters.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And both teams in this game were this close to
- 3:10Speaker 1: this being a titanic clash of two teams playing for
- 3:13Speaker 1: their seasons. If the Saints get that two-point conversion, and
- 3:17Speaker 1: if the Texans don't drop that interception, this game is
- 3:21Speaker 1: 0-1 versus 0-1. Instead, those other two teams will be
- 3:24Speaker 1: playing for their seasons in games that we will discuss later. However,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I came out of that game like, wow, Josh Allen
- 3:31Speaker 1: looked really good considering they were playing against an awesome
- 3:34Speaker 1: He did the Josh Allen thing of, I'm going to
- 3:36Speaker 1: give you a chance. I'm going to give you a
- 3:38Speaker 1: chance and you just better catch it. And they didn't
- 3:40Speaker 1: catch it. And then the next play he threw the touchdown.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I mean, so the, the stakes we talked about last
- 3:46Speaker 3: week of like how high the stakes are physically for
- 3:49Speaker 3: the players. And this is also why football is so
- 3:53Speaker 3: entertaining is like the drama is always there because right
- 3:55Speaker 3: now the stakes for the teams can be incredibly high,
- 3:59Speaker 3: not for these teams right now, because they're both one
- 4:01Speaker 3: and Oh, barely, but, But you go.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Into two, three-game skid and things looking quite dark.
- 4:05Speaker 3: But, yeah, the Josh Allen situation, going back to watch
- 4:08Speaker 3: that game, I saw they were, like, really successful on
- 4:11Speaker 3: first down, which I think is, like, the secret key
- 4:14Speaker 3: to why the Texans' defense is so good is they
- 4:18Speaker 3: win first down, then they put you in a situation
- 4:20Speaker 3: where the monster's going to come eat you alive on
- 4:23Speaker 3: must-passing situations. And this team, they ran the ball surprisingly well. And,
- 4:29Speaker 3: of course, the Josh Allen– Experience is going to be
- 4:31Speaker 3: the Josh Allen experience. It's going to be more incredible plays,
- 4:35Speaker 3: but there are going to be some opportunities. Anytime you're
- 4:37Speaker 3: that aggressive in the way that he is, he's going
- 4:40Speaker 3: to make some mistakes. But if you don't make him pay,
- 4:42Speaker 3: he came right back the next play. And the safety
- 4:45Speaker 3: came down to, like, double on a tight end, and
- 4:47Speaker 3: he ripped it. Perfect pass to score a touchdown. You
- 4:50Speaker 3: can't mess around with guys like that.
- 4:51Speaker 2: We really would.
- 4:52Speaker 3: When I was with the Ravens, worse than giving up
- 4:56Speaker 3: a big play was dropping an interception or missing a sack.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Like those missed opportunities, people would be so mad at
- 5:04Speaker 3: you for that because you're going to get beat.
- 5:06Speaker 2: They're good.
- 5:07Speaker 3: But when you get a chance, you get a chance
- 5:10Speaker 3: to turn the tide of the game. You got you
- 5:12Speaker 3: got to get it done.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And it is so much to ask somebody to not
- 5:16Speaker 1: drop an interception. Like conceptually, think about what an interception is.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Catching something that wasn't thrown to you.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Right? Like, you are actually doing a completely different job
- 5:27Speaker 1: until this interception opportunity comes, and now you are converting
- 5:30Speaker 1: to a player of a literal different position to do
- 5:33Speaker 1: something that is far more specific. I always say, what
- 5:36Speaker 1: a random way to make a million dollars. How do
- 5:38Speaker 1: you make a million dollars? Know something, man.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Watch. Watch what I do.
- 5:43Speaker 3: And it's in the split second, and I know that
- 5:46Speaker 3: people make fun of DBs for saying that they don't
- 5:48Speaker 3: have hands, and Obviously, receivers can catch better, but DBs
- 5:53Speaker 3: can catch. If you haven't been to a practice, they
- 5:55Speaker 3: can catch. The reason why it's hard is because you.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Look up and you're like, oh. It's like, it's really hard.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And you saw Lassiter turn around in his own, the
- 6:08Speaker 2: thing on his chest.
- 6:08Speaker 3: He's just like, that's the hard part about it is,
- 6:11Speaker 3: to your point, switching your mindset in less than a second.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And we looking at you like, way to go. Come on.
- 6:18Speaker 2: There it was right there.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels that way too because it is an
- 6:23Speaker 3: easy play, but you made the point. That's the biggest
- 6:26Speaker 3: one is that it's just a complete turnover in your
- 6:30Speaker 3: mind frame in less than any amount of time that
- 6:32Speaker 3: anybody can process anything. And I think the expectations, those
- 6:36Speaker 3: are the guys who have the best hands and the
- 6:37Speaker 3: best ball skills.
- 6:38Speaker 2: They can catch.
- 6:39Speaker 3: They got big hands. They can track the ball well,
- 6:42Speaker 3: but also they're expecting to catch it. Every time they're
- 6:44Speaker 3: out there, they're expecting to catch it. And there ain't
- 6:47Speaker 3: much of them like that that are expecting to catch
- 6:50Speaker 3: it or can turn over that quick.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Just like, I know this is going to happen. I'm
- 6:53Speaker 2: going to grab it.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Look, I told you once, the most ridiculous thing about football,
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's not even so hard how hard people be hitting,
- 7:01Speaker 1: is that I'm supposed to withstand that hit without dropping
- 7:05Speaker 1: that thing I got in my hand. It's such an
- 7:08Speaker 1: absurd thing to ask of somebody. And I'm going to
- 7:11Speaker 1: look at you, funny, if you drop it. I'll add
- 7:14Speaker 1: a level to that absurdity. Not only are you supposed.
- 7:18Speaker 3: to catch it and hold on to it while somebody's
- 7:20Speaker 3: hitting you, you supposed to line up and do it again.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Go back out there.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Have you?
- 7:29Speaker 2: And that's the thing that to me, when I stepped
- 7:31Speaker 2: away for a little bit, I got injured.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Then I came back and I was watching from the sideline.
- 7:35Speaker 3: And that's the thing that jumped out.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I was like, holy shit. They out there hitting. Oh,
- 7:41Speaker 2: they did it again.
- 7:42Speaker 3: When you on the field, it feels slightly different. And
- 7:44Speaker 3: I know we've talked about this before. what it feels
- 7:47Speaker 3: like to stand on the NFL sideline. And honestly, what
- 7:50Speaker 3: it feels like to stand on any football sideline. I
- 7:53Speaker 3: was at my son's game. He's, what is he, 13
- 7:57Speaker 3: years old right now. And every play ain't cracking, but
- 8:00Speaker 3: there's a couple boys out there that's going to crack.
- 8:03Speaker 2: And if you're standing close enough to the sideline, you're like, oh, ooh.
- 8:08Speaker 3: And if you play on the NFL sideline or a
- 8:09Speaker 3: college sideline, just one time, everybody should get the privilege
- 8:14Speaker 3: of standing next to it and see what's happening.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I stood on a Division II sideline in 2005 and
- 8:19Speaker 1: could not believe what I was watching.
- 8:21Speaker 2: A legendary Jones family.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Story was my brother, I guess he was going towards
- 8:25Speaker 1: seventh grade or something like that, I forget what year,
- 8:26Speaker 1: but he was thinking about playing football. And my mother
- 8:29Speaker 1: was on the faculty at Clark College, which is part
- 8:32Speaker 1: of what is now Clark Atlanta University. And she got
- 8:35Speaker 1: him to let them come stand on the sideline and
- 8:37Speaker 1: watch the game, right? So they stood on the sideline,
- 8:39Speaker 1: watched the game, and she said the day was walking back.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And nobody was saying anything about brother.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Who is not small. Right. My brother stopped, looked at
- 8:49Speaker 2: her and said, you know, I think I'll just be
- 8:54Speaker 2: in the band. That's what I got. I tell a story.
- 8:59Speaker 2: It was 2008.
- 9:00Speaker 1: It was the first time that I had covered a
- 9:03Speaker 1: division one football game. And so it was Carolina against
- 9:06Speaker 1: Virginia Tech. And this has been TJ Yates was the quarterback.
- 9:09Speaker 1: He got hurt, I want to say, in the second
- 9:11Speaker 1: or third quarter.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Next play, they brought in Mike Paulus, Greg Paulus' brother,
- 9:15Speaker 1: who was a very big-time quarterback recruit. First play, handed
- 9:18Speaker 1: the ball to Greg, literally runs like 40-something yards for
- 9:19Speaker 1: a touchdown, right? Then after that, again, this is Virginia
- 9:22Speaker 1: Tech with their vaulted defenses.
- 9:24Speaker 2: And, you know, they turned it up on that boy.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And then I went down on the sideline for the
- 9:30Speaker 2: last drive of the game. And... i don't know how anybody.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Is expected to complete a forward pass in a football
- 9:40Speaker 1: game in the time that is actually and truly allotted
- 9:43Speaker 1: to you to make that pass that swarm that just
- 9:48Speaker 1: was around him at every turn i was like oh
- 9:51Speaker 1: i misunderstood but this game this is whoa this is nuts.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I'm not somebody who's like you have to be able
- 9:59Speaker 3: to do it to be able to criticize it like
- 10:02Speaker 3: I don't think you have to do that I think
- 10:03Speaker 3: some people like former players get mad uh at analysts
- 10:07Speaker 3: who are like you have to criticize it but I
- 10:09Speaker 3: do think that you have to have some healthy level
- 10:12Speaker 3: of respect and like every now and then When you
- 10:15Speaker 3: get out over your shoes, and this happens to me too,
- 10:17Speaker 3: I'm criticizing quarterbacks and it's easy because you see it
- 10:21Speaker 3: and you see what happens. Somebody open and they don't
- 10:23Speaker 3: get it to them and you know that that's what's
- 10:25Speaker 3: supposed to happen and we all see it. But every
- 10:28Speaker 3: now and then, you need to be reminded, going down there,
- 10:30Speaker 3: just stand in a pocket. Just see what it feel
- 10:33Speaker 3: like for a hot second to have to decide and
- 10:36Speaker 3: deliver a pass in less than two seconds.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It's the only job in football where you're expected to
- 10:41Speaker 1: hold the ball.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And do something else.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's not simply you got the ball, so now you're
- 10:46Speaker 1: running to stay safe. Hold the ball, think about some shit,
- 10:49Speaker 1: consider some possibilities. It's all about standing facing the wrong
- 10:57Speaker 1: way on the highway.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I told Lanae a long time ago, she's a writer,
- 11:02Speaker 3: she was writing something and we were talking about.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Blackness.
- 11:07Speaker 3: And I was saying how blackness is being two things
- 11:10Speaker 3: at once.
- 11:11Speaker 2: All the time. It's like you're always.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Part of whatever it is that you're doing, another part
- 11:17Speaker 3: of it is being Black.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I assume.
- 11:19Speaker 3: that I've never played quarterback at a high level. I
- 11:21Speaker 3: played in high school. I assume it's the same thing.
- 11:24Speaker 3: When they're trying to kill you, and at the same time,
- 11:27Speaker 3: you're not just trying to stay alive. You have to
- 11:29Speaker 3: process what's happening down the field and then deliver an
- 11:32Speaker 3: accurate pass, and you wonder why we can't find 32
- 11:35Speaker 3: of them. Right.
- 11:36Speaker 2: It's fucking hard. This game has a serious construction issue.
- 11:40Speaker 1: You should not have any position that exists, and there
- 11:44Speaker 1: aren't enough people who are capable of doing it to
- 11:47Speaker 1: fill out a league.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Just the top line. There aren't 32 people who can
- 11:52Speaker 2: do it.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Now, I want to stay on this game, though, because
- 11:55Speaker 1: my guys, the Detroit Lions, I felt like Buffalo should
- 12:00Speaker 1: have come out of their game optimistic. I did not
- 12:03Speaker 1: feel that way as a fan of the Detroit Lions.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I did not come out of that game feeling very
- 12:08Speaker 1: good at all. I also didn't feel like while I
- 12:10Speaker 1: was playing it, while I was watching it, that they
- 12:11Speaker 1: played badly, necessarily.
- 12:13Speaker 2: But, because.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I don't know how it's going to end up for
- 12:18Speaker 1: the Saints, and their quarterback is old, but there's something there.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I think that there's great cause for optimism, but Detroit
- 12:27Speaker 1: should not be playing home games against the Saints, and
- 12:29Speaker 1: it comes down to the end like it did there.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Playing in the division that they play in, that they
- 12:35Speaker 1: finished in last place last year, and they were not
- 12:37Speaker 1: a bad team, but somebody's going to have to finish
- 12:40Speaker 1: in last, and it might be y'all again.
- 12:42Speaker 3: It's hard to, some of these results are hard to
- 12:46Speaker 3: draw anything from because we're not quite sure if it's
- 12:50Speaker 3: because one opponent was good or one opponent was really bad.
- 12:53Speaker 3: That's why the Bills result feels like something substantive because
- 12:57Speaker 3: it's like, we know the Texans, Texans defense is good.
- 13:01Speaker 3: If you guys can be in a game with the Texans,
- 13:03Speaker 3: whether you win or lose, like I feel like you
- 13:04Speaker 3: can feel good as a Bills fan at the end
- 13:06Speaker 3: of that game. Like your defense ain't fixed, but you know,
- 13:09Speaker 3: that it felt like the change that wanted to be made,
- 13:11Speaker 3: and I'm reading into this a little bit, but the
- 13:13Speaker 3: change that Josh Allen seemingly wanted to be made was
- 13:17Speaker 3: we got to be more aggressive on offense. And turnovers
- 13:21Speaker 3: be damned, if we get them, we get them. Because
- 13:23Speaker 3: in the past, it felt like with a defensive-minded coach,
- 13:25Speaker 3: they wanted to protect their defense. And it feels like
- 13:28Speaker 3: the reason why Joe Brady got promoted is because Josh
- 13:32Speaker 3: is like, we ain't going to win like that. Them
- 13:34Speaker 3: boys ain't going to be able to stop people. I'm
- 13:36Speaker 3: going to give it back every now and then, but
- 13:38Speaker 3: fuck it, I'm going to throw three more than I
- 13:39Speaker 3: give to them.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And that's the way they're going to approach it. Well, one,
- 13:42Speaker 2: that's late stage Brett Favre. Yeah.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And I think it's important to know the rules are different,
- 13:46Speaker 1: so guys don't throw as many interceptions as they used
- 13:48Speaker 1: to for a number of reasons or whatever. But there
- 13:50Speaker 1: was a point post-prime Brett Favre, and prime Brett Favre
- 13:53Speaker 1: might be the best quarterback I've ever seen. But after that,
- 13:56Speaker 1: where he had just made that, this is the way
- 13:57Speaker 1: we're going to play football, right? Like I see my
- 13:59Speaker 1: buddy Nick make this point about Josh Allen and a
- 14:01Speaker 1: few other people that, Yolo ball is probably going to
- 14:04Speaker 1: be the best way for them to go about this.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Sean McDermott, who you must remember was the defensive coordinator
- 14:11Speaker 1: when Cam Newton played for the Panthers and he saw
- 14:13Speaker 1: Cam Newton as the problem. Like this, this is not
- 14:18Speaker 1: something I'm making up, right? Like that was the mentality
- 14:22Speaker 1: that he had. If it's going to be like this
- 14:23Speaker 1: for Buffalo, it's going to be fun, right? It's going
- 14:26Speaker 1: to be, your mileage may vary from game to game.
- 14:29Speaker 1: That is correct, but it's going to be fun. And
- 14:31Speaker 1: with Detroit, they're going to have to figure something like
- 14:33Speaker 1: that similar because they're going to give up a gang
- 14:36Speaker 1: of points, a gang of points.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And they have a quarterback who's an incredible point guard,
- 14:42Speaker 3: but he has one of the best arms in football,
- 14:46Speaker 3: but he's not the guy that's like in that Brett Favre,
- 14:49Speaker 3: Josh Allen move. And Brett Favre and Josh Allen, I
- 14:51Speaker 3: think are similar in a bunch of ways, but I
- 14:54Speaker 3: have to give credit for Josh Allen, even though some
- 14:56Speaker 3: of the passes he throws don't make sense.
- 14:58Speaker 2: You can see that he understands defense.
- 15:01Speaker 3: That's the difference with Brett Favre is I'm realizing is
- 15:03Speaker 3: that you think that you have to be super smart
- 15:06Speaker 3: to play quarterback. I think the problem is you can't
- 15:08Speaker 3: be in the middle. I think that's the problem. You
- 15:11Speaker 3: can't be in the middle. Cause Brett would go out
- 15:13Speaker 3: there and like, all right, I'm throwing it here. No
- 15:16Speaker 3: matter what, there's going to be no processing. I'm just
- 15:19Speaker 3: going to throw it so hard and so accurately that
- 15:21Speaker 3: it don't matter if you've got it covered or not.
- 15:23Speaker 2: And sometimes you're going to get a hand on, it's
- 15:25Speaker 2: going to be a turnover.
- 15:25Speaker 3: And that, just dumb enough to play the position is
- 15:29Speaker 3: almost better than being in the middle. If you're really
- 15:32Speaker 3: smart and you process fast, it's great. If you're not, you're.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Just like, I'm going to rip that shit.
- 15:37Speaker 1: But I think for real, though, the big thing is
- 15:39Speaker 1: whatever decision you're going to make, you just got.
- 15:41Speaker 2: To do it. The importance of that.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So, for example, I don't think any of us ever
- 15:47Speaker 1: would have cheated on Dan Marino's paper, for example. Dan
- 15:50Speaker 1: Marino had some run, as I recall, of something like
- 15:52Speaker 1: 16 straight games without being sacked once. The only one
- 15:57Speaker 1: of those linemen that's in the Hall of Fame is
- 15:59Speaker 1: Dwight Stevenson, the center, right?
- 16:01Speaker 2: That was about Dan Marino. I see it. I throw it. Boom.
- 16:06Speaker 1: This is just whatever decision it is that you're going
- 16:08Speaker 1: to make.
- 16:08Speaker 3: You just got to make it. It reminds me of Shaq,
- 16:12Speaker 3: where it's like, hey, he's special, man. It's not going
- 16:16Speaker 3: to be the footwork of Hakeem, but it's going to work, right?
- 16:21Speaker 3: And it's the technique of these guys is... Or at
- 16:24Speaker 3: least the execution is different. It's one of those guys
- 16:27Speaker 3: that you just don't have to coach in a way
- 16:29Speaker 3: that you think you have to coach everybody else. It's
- 16:30Speaker 3: not a whole, like, if-then equation that you have for
- 16:34Speaker 3: other quarterbacks. Like, if this guy comes down, then you
- 16:37Speaker 3: do that. Like, the Peyton Manning, I feel like, is
- 16:39Speaker 3: the pinnacle of, like, the intellectual quarterback.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Yeah. These Neanderthals, they can make it work, too. And
- 16:47Speaker 2: by the way, that would get Peyton Manning in trouble
- 16:50Speaker 2: in those playoffs. Absolutely. The truth is this. There is
- 16:53Speaker 2: room for processors. There is room for reactors. Thinkers. Like
- 17:03Speaker 2: I'm a thinker. I'm a thinker.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I'd be back there like, hold on, hold on, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 17:08Speaker 1: It's funny because when I do this job, I am
- 17:10Speaker 1: a reactor, right? In this job, all the moving parts
- 17:13Speaker 1: that are going on, whatever it is, I know it
- 17:15Speaker 1: don't seem like much maybe to people who are listening,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but I got to let people know I'm running point
- 17:19Speaker 1: at all times, especially if I got somebody else on.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I'm figuring out when we're going to bring this in,
- 17:23Speaker 1: when we're going to go to this place, whatever it is.
- 17:25Speaker 2: I'm not thinking. I'm just going. Man, if you would
- 17:27Speaker 2: get me out there, I'd be back there counting. Now,
- 17:29Speaker 2: hold on one second. One, two, three, four, five. Oh, okay.
- 17:32Speaker 2: There we go. There's the mic right there. Wait, wait. Okay,
- 17:34Speaker 2: there he is right there. Then we get back there. Okay,
- 17:36Speaker 2: hold on. Wait, wait, wait. Hold on. Slow up, guys.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Slow up, guys. Give me just one second. Give me
- 17:39Speaker 2: just one second. No, no, no. That's not what this is. It's, oh,
- 17:41Speaker 2: that's what I'm going to do, and I'm going to
- 17:43Speaker 2: do it right now. Go. Yeah, it's a different type
- 17:47Speaker 2: of situation.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I think that was– I've talked about this a couple
- 17:50Speaker 3: times on other shows, but I think that was my
- 17:52Speaker 3: problem at cornerback. Like, I was a good corner, but
- 17:55Speaker 3: I had, like, the athleticism to be up there with
- 17:57Speaker 3: some of the best. But I wasn't there because I
- 18:00Speaker 3: was a thinker, and it was like, all right, I
- 18:04Speaker 3: know in this situation, this is what they want to do.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I need to sit on this. But if I sit
- 18:09Speaker 3: on it and it's not what they did, it's a touchdown.
- 18:13Speaker 3: All right, let's be safe. Let's be safe.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Let's be safe. Let's tackle it. Let's tackle it. Let's
- 18:16Speaker 2: tackle it.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Every now and then I would, I would play the
- 18:19Speaker 3: game in a way that's like, I'm gonna wait for
- 18:20Speaker 3: you to make a mistake rather than I talked to
- 18:23Speaker 3: champ a couple of days ago and he was saying
- 18:25Speaker 3: how I used to keep everything in front of me.
- 18:26Speaker 2: It's like, God damn right.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I live my life that way too. I live my
- 18:31Speaker 3: life that way too. I want to keep it all
- 18:33Speaker 3: in front of me, man. I want to keep it
- 18:35Speaker 3: all in front of me. I ain't gambling.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I ain't doing none of that.
- 18:38Speaker 3: And that was like, don't break. I lived my life
- 18:41Speaker 3: at a bend, but don't break, man. I couldn't play
- 18:44Speaker 3: that way. I played that way and it got me
- 18:46Speaker 3: far enough. But I think the difference in other guys
- 18:48Speaker 3: was not with exception of players like chant was not
- 18:51Speaker 3: that they were more athletic or physically gifted than I was,
- 18:54Speaker 3: but they were comfortable with living with the result.
- 18:58Speaker 2: They had that breath of in them. Like, Fuck it.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Y'all going to win some, but I'm going to win more.
- 19:04Speaker 1: The Houston Texans are playing against the Cincinnati Bengals with
- 19:07Speaker 1: Joe Burrow with his annual ailment.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Texans playing for their season.
- 19:13Speaker 1: And I feel like if they're playing for their season,
- 19:15Speaker 1: by extension, Stroud is playing for his future. Because he
- 19:19Speaker 1: was good in that game, except for those two plays
- 19:21Speaker 1: where he wasn't.
- 19:23Speaker 2: The interception, they gave it up early, gave it up late.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 3: And those last two sacks, they suck because, like, they
- 19:30Speaker 3: say sacks is a quarterback stat. But when you got
- 19:33Speaker 3: to have a situation, you can't quite get rid of
- 19:36Speaker 3: the ball if ain't nobody open. And I think there's
- 19:38Speaker 3: another level of quarterback play that we kind of hinted
- 19:41Speaker 3: on with the Brett Favre thing. But I think I
- 19:43Speaker 3: would point to Trevor Lawrence as doing some of this
- 19:45Speaker 3: last week, too, where it's and I saw Bo Nix
- 19:49Speaker 3: having an inability to.
- 19:50Speaker 2: To do this, is sometimes.
- 19:51Speaker 3: They got the right play called, but you got to
- 19:54Speaker 3: give your guys a chance and put it in a spot.
- 19:56Speaker 3: And Trevor Lawrence had that one touchdown between four guys
- 19:59Speaker 3: where it's like you can't even see the receiver. but
- 20:01Speaker 3: he put it in a spot back there to give
- 20:03Speaker 3: people a chance. And sometimes you have to put it
- 20:06Speaker 3: in a spot that it's not going to get turned
- 20:08Speaker 3: over and you can't wait for the play to develop
- 20:10Speaker 3: and people to be open.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yeah, this Andre Johnson got all of them about the
- 20:15Speaker 1: body language, which is a thing.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I don't think that he's wrong. I do. I don't
- 20:23Speaker 2: know if he had to say it already. Yeah. You
- 20:25Speaker 2: know what I'm saying?
- 20:26Speaker 1: And then Stroud is kind of, Stroud ain't the type
- 20:28Speaker 1: to respond well to those sorts of things.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Right? But it's right.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You're the guy in charge here.
- 20:38Speaker 2: You got to look like you got it under control.
- 20:41Speaker 2: But what if you don't feel like you do? I know.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I don't generally advocate lying, but... Fake it till you
- 20:49Speaker 1: make it. Hey, man, you got to do it sometimes.
- 20:52Speaker 2: And look, this is.
- 20:54Speaker 1: The Bengals sound a lot like what we're saying about
- 20:56Speaker 1: Buffalo and Detroit. They just going to have to try
- 20:58Speaker 1: to beat people by scoring a gazillion points.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see. I mean, their D-line has improved.
- 21:03Speaker 3: They got a bunch of turnovers in this game, which
- 21:05Speaker 3: is not something that you can replicate. I'm not sure
- 21:07Speaker 3: that they really stopped the Bucs a ton, but they
- 21:10Speaker 3: got the ball back a bunch early and then shifted
- 21:15Speaker 3: the game script in a way that was advantageous. Their
- 21:18Speaker 3: D-line did look good, but I don't think that they
- 21:20Speaker 3: solved their defensive problems. The problem with them relying on
- 21:23Speaker 3: Joe Burrow, and we give Joe Burrow a lot of
- 21:26Speaker 3: credit because he won that championship.
- 21:28Speaker 2: He went to the Super Bowl, of course.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Um, he, he seems to be, uh, a socially conscious
- 21:34Speaker 3: guy when he talks, he comes off as a guy
- 21:36Speaker 3: who's aware of things and we don't put that Jackson
- 21:39Speaker 3: dart on him, but yeah, he owes ball too long.
- 21:43Speaker 3: And he tried to run through people like he, we
- 21:45Speaker 3: don't need. And that's the thing is I, I value
- 21:48Speaker 3: a quarterback like Baker will do this sometimes where you
- 21:51Speaker 3: run through somebody, you get up and you get high.
- 21:53Speaker 3: That's a body language thing that I think has value. Joe,
- 21:56Speaker 3: you pass that Joe. And early in that game, he
- 21:59Speaker 3: was running. And I was sitting next to Teddy Bruschi
- 22:02Speaker 3: and across from Randy Moss watching this game. And when
- 22:05Speaker 3: Joe ran, it was early in the game, first court,
- 22:07Speaker 3: he ran and got blown up out of bounds. And
- 22:09Speaker 3: Teddy Bruschi and all three of us looked at each other.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Teddy Bruschi said, that's his throwing shoulder. And we ain't
- 22:14Speaker 3: say nothing about it. The rest of the game, nothing happened.
- 22:17Speaker 3: We just kind of like, yeah, he got to be careful.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Lo and behold, today, we start reading the news. They
- 22:22Speaker 3: start showing that same damn play. Joe, you can't do that.
- 22:26Speaker 3: You ain't built for that.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, what makes him good, he is, like, one of
- 22:31Speaker 1: the things that we try to give Shaduris Sanders credit
- 22:33Speaker 1: for is his willingness to stay in the pocket. Like,
- 22:36Speaker 1: it's a thing, the willingness to do that. Now, with
- 22:39Speaker 1: Sanders in college, it didn't necessarily result in big plays,
- 22:42Speaker 1: but when you want a glass half full, you're like, oh,
- 22:45Speaker 1: he's patient in the pocket.
- 22:46Speaker 2: That's the thing with Joe Burrow.
- 22:47Speaker 1: He'll stay back there and he'll move and he'll move
- 22:50Speaker 1: like he doesn't stay still. Right.
- 22:51Speaker 2: And he makes positive movements in the pocket.
- 22:53Speaker 1: But he will wait and he will wait and he
- 22:55Speaker 1: will wait.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And at some point, man, a big motherfucker is going
- 22:58Speaker 2: to come take you out.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Yeah. And he's going to it's going to pay off
- 23:01Speaker 3: the problem. One of the problems with Joe Burrow is
- 23:03Speaker 3: he doesn't have that arm that you would want. And
- 23:06Speaker 3: I think that he is trapped in a situation where
- 23:08Speaker 3: teams do play the too high kind of shell. And
- 23:12Speaker 3: in order to create explosive plays in that. situation on schedule.
- 23:16Speaker 3: You got to be able to rip it cross field into,
- 23:18Speaker 3: into holes. And I don't think he has the arm
- 23:20Speaker 3: strength to do that. So rather than do that, he'll
- 23:23Speaker 3: buy time and try to make your coverage break down
- 23:27Speaker 3: to create those big plays. And it's, it's similar to
- 23:30Speaker 3: Josh Allen taking shots downfield. He might, he might win
- 23:35Speaker 3: three out of four times, but that fourth time is
- 23:39Speaker 3: going to add up. If it happened three times a game,
- 23:42Speaker 3: for six, seven, eight weeks in a row. And it's
- 23:44Speaker 3: added up time and time again in his career. And
- 23:46Speaker 3: it's already started in week one. He's already a bit
- 23:49Speaker 3: shaken up.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Oh, home alone looking at, I don't know.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I just thought about that. Now we got also Tampa
- 23:57Speaker 1: Bay and Cleveland. It doesn't feel like the Tampa Bay
- 24:00Speaker 1: is playing for their season, right? Like that's a division
- 24:02Speaker 1: that is winnable. Todd Bowles played for his job. Baker
- 24:05Speaker 1: just got his money. So it's just kind of whatever Cleveland.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I mean, Are you playing for your season when your
- 24:10Speaker 1: season's over before it started?
- 24:12Speaker 2: Did you see that clip of Joe Thomas talking about the.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Moment that he realized he spent 10 years fooling himself
- 24:17Speaker 1: thinking that the Browns could win and how it just
- 24:18Speaker 1: shook him to the core of his soul?
- 24:20Speaker 2: For those who haven't seen it, it was really like
- 24:21Speaker 2: a sad, touching moment.
- 24:22Speaker 1: But he's doing this interview and he talks about they
- 24:24Speaker 1: played a game against the Patriots when he was playing
- 24:27Speaker 1: for the Browns and they lost 30 to nothing. And
- 24:30Speaker 1: he played a perfect game. And he said his wife
- 24:33Speaker 1: asked him if he was sad about it. Wife asked
- 24:35Speaker 1: him if he played a bad game. He said, no,
- 24:37Speaker 1: he played a perfect game and that broke him. He
- 24:39Speaker 1: realized that every year for 10 years he had been
- 24:41Speaker 1: walking in convincing himself that those guys could win a
- 24:44Speaker 1: championship only to realize he could play perfectly and he
- 24:47Speaker 1: didn't matter. He's a Hall of Fame player and how
- 24:50Speaker 1: well he played didn't matter. And it just made him cry.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Lucky for the Browns, they don't have any Hall of
- 24:55Speaker 1: Fame players. Miles Garrett has other things to cry about
- 24:58Speaker 1: as of now. What they do have is a Hall
- 25:01Speaker 1: of Fame team. Your boy Nasty D. I just don't know, like,
- 25:07Speaker 1: the level of narcissism that he possesses to just not
- 25:10Speaker 1: understand that you can't be saying the stuff that he
- 25:12Speaker 1: be saying. So this time he talked about how the
- 25:15Speaker 1: media won't be happy unless he throws for, what, 400
- 25:18Speaker 1: yards or five touchdowns or something like that. Did you
- 25:20Speaker 1: know he hasn't thrown for 300 yards once since he
- 25:23Speaker 1: came to the Browns? Not a single time. And he
- 25:27Speaker 1: keep talking about how people don't treat him right.
- 25:31Speaker 2: How does nobody has told him you can't do this.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I don't, I don't think I would have connected the
- 25:37Speaker 3: Joe Thomas thing to the Deshaun Watson thing. If it
- 25:41Speaker 3: wasn't for the fact that you put them right next
- 25:43Speaker 3: to each other, but there is a level of delusion
- 25:48Speaker 3: that is required to play this game.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:52Speaker 3: And there's a level of delusion that Joe Thomas needed
- 25:56Speaker 3: to put up with that for 10 years. And I
- 25:58Speaker 3: think the same is true. In a lot of players,
- 26:02Speaker 3: if not all players, there's some level of delusion. And
- 26:05Speaker 3: then the delusion is reinforced by you having some success.
- 26:09Speaker 3: And you combine that delusion with, I think, the human
- 26:13Speaker 3: nature to blame other people and to feel sorry for
- 26:16Speaker 3: yourself as.
- 26:16Speaker 2: You end up where you are, where we are with
- 26:18Speaker 2: Deshaun Watson right now. And it ain't good. They need
- 26:22Speaker 2: to move him away from the microphone.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Or maybe they're fine with him talking on the microphone
- 26:26Speaker 3: because it gives us something to focus on and not
- 26:28Speaker 3: focus on how They lost by a damn near 30 points,
- 26:32Speaker 3: and it seems like their franchise has given up on
- 26:35Speaker 3: the season already. The players haven't, I'm sure, but we're
- 26:39Speaker 3: at the week one. The first week of Todd Munkin's
- 26:44Speaker 3: head coaching career, and he already dipping into I ain't
- 26:47Speaker 3: going to fire myself.
- 26:48Speaker 2: He said that. I ain't going to fire myself. We
- 26:52Speaker 2: there already? I did not see that. Why is firing
- 26:54Speaker 2: even on the table? Why anybody got to get fired?
- 26:56Speaker 2: You 0-1, man. The Rams are 0-1. Lots of people
- 27:01Speaker 2: are 0-1. I ain't going to fire myself.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Look, Tom Buck is like, this is my chance to
- 27:08Speaker 1: be a coach. He's in that situation. That dude in
- 27:11Speaker 1: Miami is in that situation.
- 27:14Speaker 2: A job.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Everybody wants to be a head coach, but nobody wants
- 27:19Speaker 1: those jobs. Those are just the jobs that you have
- 27:21Speaker 1: to take in order to be a head coach, right?
- 27:24Speaker 1: These are jobs like that. Although I still think when Bunkin, hey,
- 27:30Speaker 1: number one, he sees the other guy play. So, you know,
- 27:33Speaker 1: I have to trust that the people who are there
- 27:35Speaker 1: making the decisions know better than I do.
- 27:37Speaker 2: But the other part is, as.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I forget who showed up, I think I was talking
- 27:40Speaker 1: to Stu.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Gatz about this yesterday.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Hey, man, what's the most money that you have spent
- 27:45Speaker 1: on something that you just said, you know what, I
- 27:47Speaker 1: ain't even going to use.
- 27:47Speaker 2: It no more? Because, I mean... They still paying the
- 27:55Speaker 2: note on it, right?
- 27:56Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson is, we got McDonald's at home.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Like, no, we've already paid for this. We are going
- 28:03Speaker 2: to continue to use it. That's the perfect analogy. You're right.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Where it was like, nah, I paid for it. I'm
- 28:09Speaker 2: going to use it.
- 28:10Speaker 3: I agree that it don't work right, but I'm going
- 28:12Speaker 3: to get my money's worth out of this. I'm quicker
- 28:15Speaker 3: to give up on something than that.
- 28:17Speaker 1: It's a sunk cost fallacy in the ultimate demonstration.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 3: It's not even a sunk cost fallacy because they aren't
- 28:25Speaker 3: chasing it with more investment. It's just like, we know
- 28:28Speaker 3: this suck. We know we don't like it, but I'm
- 28:31Speaker 3: going to wear this lime green suit to every shindig
- 28:35Speaker 3: just because I can't afford to buy another suit until
- 28:39Speaker 3: the draft come around.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Well, here's what the thing is. I understand the argument
- 28:43Speaker 1: that your fans hate it. Why are you going to
- 28:45Speaker 1: anger your fans?
- 28:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And if the Cleveland Browns weren't going to do things
- 28:50Speaker 1: that angered their fans, they would move the team again
- 28:53Speaker 1: because I don't know what they ever do that doesn't
- 28:55Speaker 1: make you guys unhappy. Like this is, I thought that's
- 28:59Speaker 1: just what y'all liked.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I think they, and I think I'm not the first
- 29:04Speaker 3: person obviously to say this, that it feels like they
- 29:06Speaker 3: plan on bringing Shador in for that first home game,
- 29:09Speaker 3: but they have orchestrated this in such a way that,
- 29:15Speaker 3: that the fans are going to be overjoyed and thrilled
- 29:17Speaker 3: and celebrating this team when they come to town for
- 29:21Speaker 3: their first home game the following week from now. Because
- 29:24Speaker 3: it's no way that they march Deshaun Watson out there.
- 29:26Speaker 2: They're going to go.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Nuts for Shador Sanders, which is an insane thing to
- 29:30Speaker 3: even think of if you go back to all the
- 29:33Speaker 3: conversation about Shador Sanders in the last year or so.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It was like all the way back to the draft.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I will make two points. If they bent you for
- 29:40Speaker 1: the black cup, who buddy, they really don't like you. Um,
- 29:44Speaker 1: like that's, that's, that's point number one and point number two,
- 29:47Speaker 1: before we go to break and talk about other people, um,
- 29:50Speaker 1: who are playing for their seasons. Want to know who
- 29:53Speaker 1: had some really impressive statistics last week and a couple
- 29:55Speaker 1: of pretty good throws.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Who that nasty D.
- 30:01Speaker 1: If all you looked at was Nasty D's numbers, you'd
- 30:04Speaker 1: be like, damn, I don't understand why everybody's complaining.
- 30:06Speaker 2: And he had that one touchdown pass. And that's why
- 30:10Speaker 2: he said what he said.
- 30:11Speaker 1: That's the only thing he remembered from Phil.
- 30:15Speaker 3: They're going to get to tailing green before the season
- 30:17Speaker 3: is up. He's on practice call right now. He's 6'6, dude.
- 30:20Speaker 3: They're running a 4-2.
- 30:21Speaker 2: That's going to be fun.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Well, that's what you do when the games really don't matter. Hey, baby,

- 32:00Speaker 1: are back with Dominique Foxworth. I feel like the Packers
- 32:03Speaker 1: are playing for their season, but I also feel like
- 32:05Speaker 1: they're playing against the Jets. And if it don't go
- 32:07Speaker 1: the way that I think it's going to go, then
- 32:09Speaker 1: I'll be wrong, but we ain't really got.
- 32:11Speaker 2: To talk about that. You know?
- 32:13Speaker 1: The Denver Broncos are playing for their season, and they're
- 32:16Speaker 1: playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And they're doing it on a short week. Ugh. Davis Webb. Like,
- 32:25Speaker 2: he went from the last... How long before Sean Payton
- 32:28Speaker 2: get that back? The.
- 32:31Speaker 3: What might end up happening is he don't tell nobody,
- 32:35Speaker 3: but he started to have some input. But actually, I
- 32:38Speaker 3: don't see Sean Payton as the I don't tell nobody
- 32:40Speaker 3: type of guy. Sean Payton is a, hey, Sean Payton
- 32:44Speaker 3: going to make an ass out of you. But yeah,
- 32:47Speaker 3: it's not going to take long before it's turned over.
- 32:49Speaker 3: And from what I understand, Bo Nix was excited about
- 32:52Speaker 3: the Davis Webb switch.
- 32:53Speaker 2: So everybody's going to be mad when he looked a
- 32:55Speaker 2: little too excited. He did.
- 32:57Speaker 1: He looked like the Bo Nix I be telling people about.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:01Speaker 3: In the playoffs last year, he looked great. Like, he
- 33:04Speaker 3: was hitting intermediate routes that Sean Payton wouldn't let him
- 33:07Speaker 3: throw most of the year. And then, for whatever reason,
- 33:10Speaker 3: in this game, they went back to, like, screens and bombs,
- 33:13Speaker 3: and it was not working because the Chiefs was all
- 33:16Speaker 3: over it. And it did feel like Steve Spagnuolo was
- 33:19Speaker 3: taking Davis Webb's ass to school.
- 33:21Speaker 2: It did feel like that. Yes.
- 33:23Speaker 3: When you go back and look at the timing of
- 33:25Speaker 3: the blitz and the way he showed him something in
- 33:27Speaker 3: the first half, it just felt very much like Steve
- 33:30Speaker 3: Olas was like, I've.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Been here, young buck. Watch this.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Look, I remember when I first started doing Highly Questionable
- 33:36Speaker 1: and we would do those interviews. And Dan Levitard was
- 33:41Speaker 1: gracious and kind enough to afford me the opportunity to
- 33:46Speaker 1: try to lead a couple of those interviews. And I
- 33:49Speaker 1: want to be very clear, it wasn't going very well.
- 33:52Speaker 1: It wasn't going terribly, but he's really good at that, right?
- 33:58Speaker 1: And this is very important.
- 33:59Speaker 2: He had a very clear idea of what he wanted
- 34:01Speaker 2: those interviews to be, right? And I would watch him
- 34:05Speaker 2: in the course of.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Them, getting a little anxious over there, And then now
- 34:10Speaker 1: looking back on it, I could tell that somebody jumped
- 34:12Speaker 1: in his ear and was like, go ahead, big fella.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Take care of this.
- 34:16Speaker 1: And then he would come in and he would bring
- 34:18Speaker 1: it home with all his questions that he would, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 1: so what's the worst moment of your life, right? Like
- 34:23Speaker 1: he just jumped in on the script where he needed
- 34:25Speaker 1: to go and he got it done. And then it
- 34:27Speaker 1: was just like, okay, cool.
- 34:28Speaker 2: You go ahead and leave the interviews. It's fine, right?
- 34:30Speaker 2: Like this is what you need to do.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I wish we could get a whole cam of Sean
- 34:35Speaker 1: Payton in that game where I imagine he's just over
- 34:37Speaker 1: there Try to, you know, like, try to keep his hands,
- 34:40Speaker 1: do another stuff, try to think about other things.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Let me go help with the defense right fast. I
- 34:44Speaker 2: ain't even going to look at this because he's going
- 34:46Speaker 2: to keep on calling them plays so bad.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I don't got Sean Payton as trying not to do that.
- 34:52Speaker 3: I got Sean Payton cussing in the headset. Like, who's that?
- 34:57Speaker 2: Why can't we? Yeah, like.
- 34:58Speaker 1: No, that week he's trying not to. Like, that week
- 35:02Speaker 1: he's consciously trying. Trying not to.
- 35:04Speaker 3: When he went into the locker room, they asked him
- 35:06Speaker 3: how he felt about not calling plays.
- 35:08Speaker 2: He said, talk to me in two quarters. Like, he
- 35:11Speaker 2: was already pissed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm telling you, man. Like,
- 35:14Speaker 2: he's not. He can't do that. Andy Reid has tried
- 35:17Speaker 2: to give this up a few times, right?
- 35:20Speaker 3: And Sean Payton been a coach for a long time.
- 35:23Speaker 3: He know how to deal with the media. John Payton
- 35:26Speaker 3: knew what question he was going to be asked, and
- 35:28Speaker 3: he knew how he was going to answer it. Chargers
- 35:30Speaker 3: is not on that sideline trying to bite his tongue.
- 35:33Speaker 3: He's firing everybody's ass up soon. If it ain't happening yet,
- 35:36Speaker 3: it's happening soon.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Chargers are playing against the Raiders. The Raiders are not
- 35:41Speaker 1: playing for their season, but the Chargers are. I'm just
- 35:43Speaker 1: going to say the Chargers should win that game, right?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Let's just feel like you should. Miami, again, are you
- 35:51Speaker 1: playing for your season if you don't have a season?
- 35:53Speaker 2: However... I feel like I have to say it all week.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't bet on the $ 40 this week because they
- 35:59Speaker 1: were coming back from playing a game on the moon.
- 36:03Speaker 2: And then I realized they were playing the Dolphins, and
- 36:05Speaker 2: maybe I spoke a little hastily.
- 36:07Speaker 1: But at the same time, this is your chance, Miami.
- 36:09Speaker 2: This is your chance.
- 36:11Speaker 3: I mean, we've brought up a number of times how
- 36:13Speaker 3: the Raiders beat the Patriots at the beginning of last season.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Like, yeah, you got a chance to get some wins.
- 36:19Speaker 2: You got to get some here and there.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Otherwise, you don't want to get the week eight, week nine,
- 36:24Speaker 3: with no wins, and then we counting how many weeks
- 36:28Speaker 3: left before you join the Browns. Oh, the Browns in?
- 36:33Speaker 3: Who else did that? Didn't the Lions do that? They
- 36:35Speaker 3: only had one win. They went defeated.
- 36:39Speaker 1: The Lions went unwinnin'. Unwon. The Browns went 0-15-1. The
- 36:41Speaker 1: Lions put up a solid 0-4. My sophomore year in high.
- 36:45Speaker 2: School, We went one and nine. It was not good.
- 36:58Speaker 2: It was not a good feeling.
- 37:00Speaker 3: And the most embarrassing part was we won the last
- 37:03Speaker 3: game of the year and we was excited.
- 37:07Speaker 2: We celebrated. How could you not? How could you not?
- 37:11Speaker 2: How could you not?
- 37:13Speaker 1: I mean, all 15 people who were still coming to games,
- 37:15Speaker 1: I'm sure they was excited too.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Yeah, all our mamas was very happy. Was it at
- 37:19Speaker 2: least at home? Yeah, it was at home. We didn't
- 37:21Speaker 2: have a home field though, so.
- 37:23Speaker 3: It was, we used like the community college had a
- 37:26Speaker 3: field that we used.
- 37:27Speaker 2: So it was not easy for people to get there.
- 37:29Speaker 2: It was rough.
- 37:30Speaker 3: And like, I had never been on a bad team before.
- 37:33Speaker 3: And freshman year we on JV and we eight and
- 37:35Speaker 3: two balling. And all the sophomores moved up to varsity
- 37:39Speaker 3: and it was just us getting our ass killed.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Tough, tough break. Tough break.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Washington and Dallas are playing for their seasons. But I
- 37:50Speaker 1: feel like Dan Quinn is playing for his job. I'm
- 37:54Speaker 1: trying to figure out if it was good or bad
- 37:56Speaker 1: for them that the Lions didn't have any players left
- 37:58Speaker 1: in that playoff game and Washington won because it really
- 38:02Speaker 1: wasn't that long ago that it was the pinnacle of
- 38:04Speaker 1: optimism and Jaden Daniels was the one out of those guys.
- 38:07Speaker 2: He looked bad to me on Sunday. You can tell
- 38:10Speaker 2: me if I'm wrong, but I thought he and that
- 38:11Speaker 2: whole offense looked bad. But they were in it at
- 38:15Speaker 2: the end.
- 38:15Speaker 1: I'll give them that part, but I didn't– I feel
- 38:19Speaker 1: like they're going to finish last in that division this year.
- 38:23Speaker 1: And they went all in after they had that good
- 38:25Speaker 1: season in 24.
- 38:26Speaker 3: They might finish last in the division. I think this
- 38:30Speaker 3: is about perspective. I thought they were going to be
- 38:32Speaker 3: worse than they were. So I didn't walk away from
- 38:35Speaker 3: that game saying they look bad. I think you're probably right.
- 38:38Speaker 3: The O-line held up better than I anticipated, given that
- 38:41Speaker 3: reporters called it inoperable at times.
- 38:45Speaker 2: That's an actual literal word.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the word that was literally used, and they
- 38:50Speaker 3: were going up against one of the best defensive fronts
- 38:52Speaker 3: in football.
- 38:53Speaker 2: They operated.
- 38:54Speaker 3: They scored some points. They were in the game at
- 38:56Speaker 3: the end. Their defense was much better than it was
- 38:59Speaker 3: last year. I still think Jaden's great. The question is,
- 39:03Speaker 3: can you keep him healthy? I think he's going to
- 39:05Speaker 3: be fine no matter what going forward, but you're right
- 39:07Speaker 3: about Dan Quinn.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Coaching for his job.
- 39:09Speaker 3: But this is as good an opportunity as you're going
- 39:12Speaker 3: to get because I went from Cowboys got a chance
- 39:15Speaker 3: to I'm all the way out on the Cowboys, man.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Really?
- 39:18Speaker 3: You see, and I could be wrong, but when the
- 39:25Speaker 3: story of last season is your defense sucks, you spit.
- 39:30Speaker 3: the whole off season addressing it. You spend the whole
- 39:34Speaker 3: off season talking about it by your draft, your free agents,
- 39:38Speaker 3: your coach hiring, all your preseason and camp is about.
- 39:42Speaker 3: We got to fix this defense. We got to stop
- 39:45Speaker 3: the run. And then in week one, You at five
- 39:49Speaker 3: minutes to go in the game, you know they running
- 39:51Speaker 3: the ball.
- 39:52Speaker 2: They know they running the ball. You can't stop it.
- 39:56Speaker 3: That's hard for me to be able to just dismiss
- 39:59Speaker 3: as like, it's week one, it's extended preseason.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Oh, they had a bad week. That's all you wanted
- 40:07Speaker 2: to do. That's it. Show these motherfuckers that we ain't
- 40:11Speaker 2: to be pushed around.
- 40:12Speaker 3: We can stop the run. That was the pregame speech,
- 40:15Speaker 3: I guarantee it. And they huddled with the defense before
- 40:18Speaker 3: they went in to do the prayer. They was like, look,
- 40:20Speaker 3: they said that we can't do nothing. We ain't show
- 40:23Speaker 3: up last year, but we got new boys.
- 40:25Speaker 2: We the new boys. Watch what we do. They not
- 40:27Speaker 2: going to push us around. Then they got moved. That
- 40:33Speaker 2: hurt me. That broke my heart, man. It broke me. Yeah.
- 40:36Speaker 1: It's all fair points. All fair points. I don't have
- 40:41Speaker 1: anything to say after that.
- 40:42Speaker 3: I'm going to need him to prove it to me.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I'm going to need him to prove it to me.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I'm out on them until they start stopping people.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Are we wasting any of our time on the Indianapolis Colts? Nope.
- 40:54Speaker 1: How did you feel, though, about that version of the
- 40:56Speaker 1: Chiefs that apparently is going to hit people in the mouth?
- 40:59Speaker 2: I mean, I would expect if Mahomes.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Mahomes did not play especially well, which I think was
- 41:04Speaker 1: a reasonable expectation.
- 41:06Speaker 2: We'll see how he looks in the middle of the year. However...
- 41:08Speaker 2: They were hammering, though. That looked like some Bill Parcells
- 41:13Speaker 2: shit out there.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Yeah, the Mahomes not playing well, I expected him to
- 41:18Speaker 3: not run well, and he did that well, which was
- 41:20Speaker 3: shocking to me. And the offense is still struggling to
- 41:24Speaker 3: throw the ball, which it has been for a while now.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Mahomes is still an incredible quarterback, but for whatever reason,
- 41:31Speaker 3: he and the receivers can't consistently connect on anything. And
- 41:35Speaker 3: that one big play to Kelsey when, like, there's a
- 41:37Speaker 3: missed tackle on zero coverage, that's a big play, but
- 41:41Speaker 3: I don't think you can rely on Travis Kelsey as
- 41:44Speaker 3: the explosive play guy. And also, like, I think this
- 41:47Speaker 3: was a great week one, but this is going to
- 41:51Speaker 3: be a difficult way for them to live their life
- 41:54Speaker 3: going forward is they're going to get all their explosive
- 41:57Speaker 3: plays from Kenneth Walker, and they're going to give Kenneth
- 41:59Speaker 3: Walker 30 touches a game. It's a great win. But
- 42:02Speaker 3: that ain't the recipe, man. That is not the recipe.
- 42:06Speaker 3: You have to do the smash mouth. And I think
- 42:07Speaker 3: that getting in a situation where teams are preparing to
- 42:11Speaker 3: stop a running attack when the quarterback is Patrick Mahomes,
- 42:15Speaker 3: I have to assume that that's going to work out
- 42:17Speaker 3: at some point. But I got to see him do it.
- 42:19Speaker 3: I see him connect down the field with these passes. Otherwise,
- 42:22Speaker 3: I don't see them. They're one of the teams that
- 42:26Speaker 3: it's only one thing that matters, right, is championships, like
- 42:30Speaker 3: winning a division or getting to the playoffs.
- 42:31Speaker 2: We don't care.
- 42:32Speaker 3: I don't see them as a championship contender until they
- 42:35Speaker 3: figure out the passing game, which I have to think
- 42:38Speaker 3: that they will, but they just haven't in the past
- 42:41Speaker 3: three years.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Well, is Andy Reid losing his fastball?
- 42:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that's worth considering. I mean, they've been a defensive-centric
- 42:49Speaker 3: team for the last few seasons. Like, the story of their...
- 42:52Speaker 3: team's success is they win or lose based on how
- 42:55Speaker 3: well their defense plays.
- 42:56Speaker 2: And that was true in this game also.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Their offense was really explosive on the ground and ran
- 43:01Speaker 3: the ball well, but the defense really shut down the Broncos.
- 43:04Speaker 3: And that's been the story of this team since they
- 43:07Speaker 3: traded Tyreek Hill away. This has been a team that's
- 43:10Speaker 3: like defense has been underrated, but like the biggest part.
- 43:15Speaker 3: And then Mahomes also like converting crazy long third and
- 43:18Speaker 3: longs consistently.
- 43:19Speaker 2: I think that was two years ago. That's impressive.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Then last year, it all swallowed them up, and we
- 43:25Speaker 3: just saw a bad version of that team even before
- 43:27Speaker 3: Mahomes got hurt. And this year, I have a hard
- 43:30Speaker 3: time imagining that they're just going to be a smash-mouth
- 43:32Speaker 3: team the whole season and have success. Some teams are
- 43:35Speaker 3: going to be able to stop that run, and they're
- 43:36Speaker 3: going to need to be able to punish people with
- 43:38Speaker 3: explosive plays.
- 43:39Speaker 1: That reminds you just of what a beast Bill Belichick
- 43:41Speaker 1: was for all that time.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Like, they never, in that whole Brady-Belichick run, there was never–
- 43:50Speaker 1: One of those, like the Chiefs had last year.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Not even the year Brady got hurt.
- 43:55Speaker 1: That was never one of those. The Rams are on
- 43:58Speaker 1: Monday night, but the Rams are playing for their season.
- 44:00Speaker 1: The Miles Garrett being hurt thing is, like, I think
- 44:03Speaker 1: that's no small thing. We'll see what Aaron Donald looks
- 44:05Speaker 1: like coming out of mouth balls. And I came away
- 44:08Speaker 1: thinking that the Giants may actually be good. And the
- 44:11Speaker 1: Rams are coming back after playing that game in Australia.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Like, they could very... Look, that Australia game has potential
- 44:18Speaker 2: to mess up the whole season for them.
- 44:21Speaker 3: So yeah, so first about the Rams, I think you're right.
- 44:24Speaker 3: There's a lot of pressure on this team right now.
- 44:27Speaker 3: I think we focus a lot on Myles Garrett in
- 44:30Speaker 3: the defense for obvious reasons, but I think we also
- 44:32Speaker 3: need to pay attention to Matt Stafford. We talk about,
- 44:36Speaker 3: I'm certainly not suggesting that this is true off an
- 44:39Speaker 3: MVP year that he just falls off a cliff, but
- 44:41Speaker 3: we do talk about that for certain types of players
- 44:44Speaker 3: and it's possible.
- 44:45Speaker 2: That's on the board.
- 44:47Speaker 3: At this age, this injury history that it's on the board.
- 44:50Speaker 3: I think we also can explain it away with the
- 44:52Speaker 3: travel and the unique situation. Like, yeah, that could have
- 44:54Speaker 3: been a bad week, but if we see it again,
- 44:56Speaker 3: then we need to be aware that this offense may
- 44:59Speaker 3: not be able to operate the way that we expect
- 45:01Speaker 3: it to with Matt Stafford and Puka still incredible difference maker.
- 45:08Speaker 3: They still can run the ball well. So it just
- 45:10Speaker 3: lowers the ceiling for, for this team and honestly lowers
- 45:14Speaker 3: the floor. this team is constructed defensively around having a
- 45:17Speaker 3: dominant defensive front. They want to play dime. They want
- 45:20Speaker 3: to have little guys behind and they think they can
- 45:23Speaker 3: survive that way because their D line is dominant. And
- 45:26Speaker 3: if their D line is not dominant, they're forced to
- 45:28Speaker 3: put their linebackers back on the field and their linebackers
- 45:31Speaker 3: are the weak part of it. So it's a chain
- 45:33Speaker 3: reaction that feels like this season could unravel for them
- 45:36Speaker 3: if they don't tighten up quick.
- 45:38Speaker 1: I said, I think I was talking about the Eagles,
- 45:41Speaker 1: the Sixers and basketball earlier this year.
- 45:43Speaker 2: I was like, oh man, They could be the Eagles'
- 45:46Speaker 2: dream team.
- 45:47Speaker 1: They're like, oh, man, we adding this old dude.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Oh, snap, we adding this old dude. Yeah. Don't always
- 45:55Speaker 2: work out that way.
- 45:55Speaker 1: You know, it doesn't always work out. But, yeah, we
- 45:58Speaker 1: talked a bit about the Giants. The Giants, like I said,
- 46:00Speaker 1: they look good, man.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I mean, I think that there are some things about
- 46:05Speaker 3: football that are always true. And if you can run
- 46:09Speaker 3: the ball the way that they run the ball– it's
- 46:11Speaker 3: going to raise your floor of.
- 46:14Speaker 2: How competitive you can be.
- 46:15Speaker 3: And this is one of those games where I think
- 46:17Speaker 3: that we need to see it against some other opponents
- 46:21Speaker 3: because it might just be that a Cowboys defense is
- 46:23Speaker 3: just that bad still. But I also think the one
- 46:26Speaker 3: thing that jumped off the screen for me was Jackson
- 46:29Speaker 3: Dart was driving with both hands on the wheel with
- 46:33Speaker 3: a seatbelt on during the speed limit. Like, and it's
- 46:37Speaker 3: possibly because they were successful running the ball and the
- 46:39Speaker 3: defense wasn't terrible that he didn't feel like he had
- 46:42Speaker 3: to do something more, but there's going to come a
- 46:46Speaker 3: time when he going to have to take a hand
- 46:48Speaker 3: off and start doing something a little bit crazy out there.
- 46:51Speaker 3: And that's, I think that'll be a measure of how
- 46:53Speaker 3: high their ceiling is, is what kind of quarterback Jackson
- 46:56Speaker 3: Dart is. If he's able to throw the ball in
- 47:00Speaker 3: those situations, when the game script is turned against them,
- 47:03Speaker 3: but that, That one went according to plan. It was
- 47:06Speaker 3: the exact game plan that I'm sure Harbaugh wanted to implement.
- 47:10Speaker 2: And that's the benefit of having.
- 47:12Speaker 3: This CEO-style coach just not focus on one side of
- 47:16Speaker 3: the ball or the other, is that his idea is
- 47:18Speaker 3: connecting the offense and defense. And we're going to play
- 47:21Speaker 3: defense this way. We're going to play offense this way.
- 47:24Speaker 3: They're going to complement each other. And if something breaks down,
- 47:26Speaker 3: we'll adjust. But nothing broke down in that game. They
- 47:29Speaker 3: complemented each other throughout the whole time. You wait for
- 47:31Speaker 3: Dak to make a mistake and get that turnover. That's
- 47:34Speaker 3: all you need.
- 47:38Speaker 2: I want to throw something out here. Y'all want to
- 47:40Speaker 2: talk about it? It's cool.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I am intrigued by Bob Craft inadvertently shutting down the
- 47:47Speaker 1: Ed Sheeran tour. You've seen this story. For those of
- 47:51Speaker 1: you who have not seen this story, do you remember Macklemore?
- 47:57Speaker 1: I feel like you have to... This is the thing
- 47:59Speaker 1: I need to keep in mind about Macklemore. Apparently there's
- 48:02Speaker 1: a world where Macklemore is still a thing. I remember
- 48:05Speaker 1: it was that one year where Macklemore was out here
- 48:08Speaker 1: doing a thing, and he won the Grammy, and he
- 48:10Speaker 1: acted like he sent Kendrick a text message apologizing.
- 48:13Speaker 2: The.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of the right term to use
- 48:17Speaker 1: for it, but it's the sort of white behavior that
- 48:21Speaker 1: makes the other white.
- 48:22Speaker 2: People really annoyed. Right? Is it pandering? Is that the
- 48:26Speaker 2: word that we're looking for? Yeah, I think that's accurate.
- 48:29Speaker 2: It was pandering. Anyway.
- 48:31Speaker 1: That was like 13, 14 years ago, something like that.
- 48:35Speaker 1: I ain't thought about Macklemore one time. What I have
- 48:38Speaker 1: been made aware of about Macklemore is that he is
- 48:41Speaker 1: a strident advocate of the Palestinian cause. And at a concert,
- 48:46Speaker 1: he got on stage, and I'm paraphrasing here, but he
- 48:49Speaker 1: said that basically the criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitism,
- 48:54Speaker 1: and then went on to say free Palestine. Bob Kraft,
- 48:59Speaker 1: who is heavily invested in The anti-anti-Semitism cause. I know
- 49:05Speaker 1: that's redundant, but I can't think of no other way
- 49:06Speaker 1: to put it, right? Those commercials that you see during
- 49:09Speaker 1: the games about standing behind your Jewish friends and all
- 49:12Speaker 1: that stuff, that's Bob Kraft's money.
- 49:14Speaker 2: This is his thing. Bob Kraft heard about.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Macklemore and then decided that that tour could not come
- 49:22Speaker 1: to his stadium where it had been scheduled to go
- 49:24Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium and then found out that the other
- 49:28Speaker 1: NFL stadiums that were left on the Ed Sheeran-Macklemore tour,
- 49:31Speaker 1: because Ed Sheeran's opening for Macklemore, the rest of those
- 49:34Speaker 1: stadiums will now not have the Ed Sheeran tour come through.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Ed Sheeran, I firmly believe, thought, damn, I got to
- 49:42Speaker 1: save this tour and tell Macklemore that he got to
- 49:45Speaker 1: be off the tour because Bob Kraft basically shook him
- 49:48Speaker 1: down to get Macklemore off the tour. I don't know
- 49:52Speaker 1: if Ed Sheeran expected Macklemore to run until. However, he
- 49:56Speaker 1: jumped right on the Internet and he told everybody what happened.
- 49:59Speaker 1: And now there's only one person left on that tour.
- 50:02Speaker 1: And that person is Ed Sheeran. And when I say
- 50:05Speaker 1: that Ed Sheeran is the only person left on that tour,
- 50:07Speaker 1: I mean his backup band quit the tour.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Ed, so.
- 50:17Speaker 3: In that situation, I think you're Ed Sheeran and you
- 50:20Speaker 3: have some choices. Obviously, Ed Sheeran's a guy who's tried
- 50:25Speaker 3: to run the Republicans by sneakers, too. It's like, and
- 50:30Speaker 3: I'm not, I don't follow a bunch of like, like you,
- 50:33Speaker 3: I haven't thought about Ed Sheeran or Macklemore and forever.
- 50:36Speaker 3: So like, I can't speak to all the things they've done,
- 50:38Speaker 3: but since I've read up on some of this stuff,
- 50:40Speaker 3: Ed Sheeran, we don't know where he stands and he
- 50:43Speaker 3: likes it that way.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 50:44Speaker 3: When you are put in a position like that, I
- 50:48Speaker 3: think it's, it's an obvious, it feels like the obvious
- 50:54Speaker 3: decision to do is save the tour. You're not hurting
- 50:57Speaker 3: nobody by moving somebody away. off the tour, who's hurting
- 51:00Speaker 3: the tour. But I always think that what you can
- 51:03Speaker 3: always fall back on is speaking is freedom of speech. Like,
- 51:09Speaker 3: if this is my guy that's on my tour, like,
- 51:12Speaker 3: I think it's interesting, the question of what Ed Sheeran does.
- 51:15Speaker 2: And I think if you're able to look at.
- 51:17Speaker 3: This abstractly and not take into account what Macklemore was
- 51:22Speaker 3: speaking about, I think then you're weighing, how do I
- 51:25Speaker 3: keep this tour going versus.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Shut the tour down but what happened to Ed is
- 51:33Speaker 3: that people were like no what you're actually choosing is
- 51:37Speaker 3: how do I stand do I choose to stand against
- 51:41Speaker 3: genocide or do I choose to stand up for free
- 51:43Speaker 3: speech or not and that I think he didn't realize
- 51:47Speaker 3: what decision he was actually making or how people would
- 51:50Speaker 3: view his decision because I think he's right if somebody
- 51:53Speaker 3: get up on stage and say something stupid I'm like
- 51:56Speaker 3: you gotta get off the tour right But the problem
- 51:59Speaker 3: is by you kicking him off the tour, you're expressing
- 52:02Speaker 3: to people that you think what he said is stupid.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, he thought that he was playing the middle. Yeah.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Only to find out there is no middle. Right. Like
- 52:15Speaker 2: like that.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I think there's a lesson to be learned from the
- 52:20Speaker 1: Democratic primaries of this election year. I've said two things
- 52:23Speaker 1: I think have become clear.
- 52:25Speaker 2: One of them.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Is that affordability is the political issue period. If you're
- 52:29Speaker 1: not talking about what people can afford, ain't nobody really
- 52:32Speaker 1: trying to hear you.
- 52:32Speaker 2: That's number one. And number two is that the moral
- 52:35Speaker 2: issue of the day is what is happening in Gaza.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Like that is to this era of what the apartheid
- 52:41Speaker 1: discussion was in the 1980s, right? It is, it is,
- 52:44Speaker 1: it is clearly there. It is top of mind for
- 52:47Speaker 1: people and it's become hugely clear in these primaries, right?
- 52:50Speaker 1: And Sheeran's thought was, man, this guy said the thing
- 52:54Speaker 1: that made somebody mad. I will now get the thing
- 52:58Speaker 1: out of here that made somebody mad and we'll keep going.
- 53:01Speaker 1: And he didn't realize, forget about making the customers mad.
- 53:03Speaker 1: We didn't even get to the customer part. You just
- 53:06Speaker 1: suffered a mutiny of your whole tour. Your backup band
- 53:10Speaker 1: for 10 years was like, no, we ride with this
- 53:15Speaker 1: right here.
- 53:16Speaker 2: What struck me about it.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Is Kraft put out a statement That sounded far more
- 53:24Speaker 1: reasonable than I think his actions would have indicated, like
- 53:28Speaker 1: the no, you can't do this in my stadium.
- 53:30Speaker 2: He was like, yeah, I'd love to talk to Michael
- 53:32Speaker 2: more about this. Right. Like all these things. But he
- 53:36Speaker 2: called what the man said, hate speech. And that's where
- 53:39Speaker 2: I'm like.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Regardless of where you fall on this issue, if that
- 53:43Speaker 1: counts as hate speech, baby, we can't talk about nothing.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Like that is the argument that Kraft is making is
- 53:50Speaker 1: that there's literally no room for disagreement on this one.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Because the statement free Palestine, I've talked to Jewish people
- 53:56Speaker 1: who believe that Palestinians need to be free from Hamas.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Right?
- 54:00Speaker 1: Like, you could even spun it that way if you
- 54:03Speaker 1: wanted to. Like, there's a whole lot of room in this.
- 54:05Speaker 1: And he, and McElmore thought he had made it easy.
- 54:07Speaker 1: He was like, hey, man, I still ride for my
- 54:09Speaker 1: Jewish brothers. I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about this.
- 54:12Speaker 1: And they're like, nah. The craft is like, nah, you
- 54:16Speaker 1: talking about me. And so if you can't even say
- 54:18Speaker 1: that much, then ooh, ooh, tricky play. But you know
- 54:23Speaker 1: who's messing it up for him, Dominique? That boy Kanye.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Kanye is the, cause Kanye's back. I don't think we've
- 54:33Speaker 1: talked about this enough. Kanye had a very long stretch
- 54:37Speaker 1: of time where he really could not book like legitimate
- 54:40Speaker 1: venues because nobody would book him because he had talked
- 54:43Speaker 1: so crazy.
- 54:44Speaker 2: I forget how.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Long ago it was, but not too, not too long ago.
- 54:49Speaker 1: You remember he put out that apology that was in
- 54:51Speaker 1: the wall street journal. He quietly said, I wasn't paying
- 54:55Speaker 1: attention because I thought he was beyond redemption at that point.
- 54:58Speaker 1: But he began the apology tour and apparently it worked
- 55:03Speaker 1: and was directed to the right people because he could
- 55:05Speaker 1: go back to booking some of these venues. And so
- 55:09Speaker 1: I know at least one, I know definitely Dallas, I
- 55:12Speaker 1: think it's a couple of these other venues that have
- 55:14Speaker 1: decided they were going to cancel Macklemore are going to
- 55:18Speaker 1: have shows by a dude who did a song called
- 55:21Speaker 1: Hail Hitler. And the argument is that you're not having
- 55:25Speaker 1: the Ed Sheeran McLemore tour because it's anti-Semitism. But Kanye
- 55:30Speaker 1: somehow is forgiven for hail Hitler. I hadn't seen him
- 55:35Speaker 1: apologize that goddamn much.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Like maybe this has happened in places and I just
- 55:39Speaker 1: wasn't paying enough attention. I don't know what channels he
- 55:41Speaker 1: went through, but it becomes difficult to make the argument
- 55:44Speaker 1: that this is about anti-Semitism. There's a difference between saying
- 55:49Speaker 1: this about anti-Semitism than saying, no, this is about that war.
- 55:53Speaker 1: And if your cause is anti-Semitism, I think people are
- 55:55Speaker 1: down to listen to you. If your cause is a war,
- 55:58Speaker 1: you're not going to win that one. Because there are
- 56:01Speaker 1: enough people who are just violently opposed to war as
- 56:04Speaker 1: its own idea.
- 56:06Speaker 3: What jumped out to me about reading Robert Kraft's statement
- 56:13Speaker 3: was that was his first statement. It read to me,
- 56:16Speaker 3: like a second statement correcting an original first statement that
- 56:21Speaker 3: was too harsh right like because it had so much
- 56:25Speaker 3: room and understanding for the broader picture but still asserted
- 56:30Speaker 3: something that it felt like those two things can't exist
- 56:33Speaker 3: in one person's head at the same time right is
- 56:35Speaker 3: it feels like you can't be like this is anti-semitism
- 56:39Speaker 3: but also i understand and appreciate and stand for all this.
- 56:43Speaker 3: Like that's to me was the unusual part is that
- 56:47Speaker 3: he's aware. And when this first happened, I started thinking like,
- 56:51Speaker 3: all right, I know what happened. This is about living
- 56:54Speaker 3: in silos and having people these views reinforced to you
- 56:59Speaker 3: to a point where you believe something that you, that
- 57:02Speaker 3: another side believes something completely opposite. You guys are somehow
- 57:05Speaker 3: living in the same world, but consuming a different diet
- 57:08Speaker 3: and as do with the people you surround yourself with
- 57:10Speaker 3: and the things that are important to you. And I
- 57:12Speaker 3: was like, that's obvious. He just don't understand or they
- 57:15Speaker 3: just don't understand what's happening on the other side.
- 57:17Speaker 2: But when you read the.
- 57:18Speaker 3: Statement, it's like, whoever wrote this, It's clear about what
- 57:24Speaker 3: to say to try to defend against the idea that
- 57:30Speaker 3: you are pro-genocide.
- 57:33Speaker 2: Which is what it comes down to.
- 57:34Speaker 3: And that's the part to me that was unusual to
- 57:37Speaker 3: have a statement that both says this is hate speech and...
- 57:42Speaker 3: recognizes the plight and the understanding for a need of
- 57:46Speaker 3: like that to me that is a good point that
- 57:48Speaker 3: to me was like it was about as i'm reading
- 57:49Speaker 3: it from sentence to sentence it was bouncing me back
- 57:51Speaker 3: and forth like oh no you get.
- 57:53Speaker 1: It oh no you don't yeah like that's what i'm
- 57:55Speaker 1: saying it seemed it didn't seem as the statement makes
- 57:59Speaker 1: craft seem not nearly as strident right as the action.
- 58:04Speaker 2: But you're right.
- 58:05Speaker 1: I think that is a great way to put it.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Give us the Google Doc and we can go track
- 58:09Speaker 1: the edits and see what they had to say. No,
- 58:12Speaker 1: we're not going to put that in there, baby. Let's
- 58:14Speaker 1: take that whole paragraph out. It's also a really long statement.
- 58:17Speaker 2: It is because you got to get all that shit
- 58:19Speaker 2: in there.
- 58:20Speaker 3: That's why. And I can understand the desire to put
- 58:29Speaker 3: on for your city, essentially. I experience that myself all
- 58:33Speaker 3: the time. where if something happening, I got to get
- 58:36Speaker 3: out here and let these people know that I stand
- 58:40Speaker 3: with my people.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Like I get that.
- 58:42Speaker 3: And that came across too, where he's including all these
- 58:45Speaker 3: other like capitulations to another argument, but he's also like,
- 58:52Speaker 3: I stand. Like it felt like he wanted to be
- 58:54Speaker 3: able to go back and see and say, see, I
- 58:57Speaker 3: told him, I told him, right guys? But also still
- 59:00Speaker 3: be like, no, but I understand. Please keep coming to
- 59:02Speaker 3: the stadium and buying these tickets.
- 59:04Speaker 2: Yeah, let me tell you something though. Sports better get ready.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Because like I mentioned, the apartheid angle of this.
- 59:09Speaker 2: I don't know if you saw this.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Al Shayer of the Texans had put the little Palestinian
- 59:15Speaker 1: girl's name in his eye black, and he got fined. See,
- 59:18Speaker 1: this is where people don't get this about the NFL.
- 59:21Speaker 2: The NFL is smart in there.
- 59:22Speaker 1: You can't say nothing, because they don't have to get
- 59:24Speaker 1: out here and speak to the hypocrisy of anything.
- 59:26Speaker 2: They're like, nope.
- 59:27Speaker 1: If you do any little thing that we say you
- 59:30Speaker 1: can't do, you're getting fined.
- 59:32Speaker 2: There's nothing to talk about, right? It's across the board.
- 59:35Speaker 2: But did you see?
- 59:37Speaker 1: He said that he would pay Al Shayer's fine for this.
- 59:43Speaker 2: Go on, tell him. King crossover himself, Kyrie Irving.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Kyrie, look, I've been saying for a long time, boy,
- 59:50Speaker 1: Kyrie been over there being chill. not saying nothing crazy,
- 59:55Speaker 1: not saying anything out of hand. I tell you, every
- 59:57Speaker 1: now and then he'd show up with the keffiyeh. Like,
- 59:59Speaker 1: I think he'd be coming to work and they'd just
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: be trying to hope that shit chilled. He'd be coming
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: to work and they'd be looking at him and be like, hey,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: nice scarf, dog. Hey, look, anyway, let's just keep it moving, right?
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: But it ain't for so much longer he gonna be
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: able to keep watching this stuff on television and God
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: knows what he's seeing on the internet. I would pay
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: to see Kyrie's algorithm. There is no telling. But this
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: is the moral issue of the day. This is going
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: to pop up in ways and fashions. And it is
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: in this election year where, again, a significant portion of
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the electorate.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: Is stating what side they're on.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: And it's not the side that people have been on
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: for the last 60, 70 years in this country. Like
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: the people who are standing on the side of the Palestinians,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: they are more vocal and they are becoming more mainstream and.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: I mean, they need to be.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Lucky that we had an era of rap that the
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: only rapper going for this one is Macklemore.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Think about that for a second.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: They done beat all the revolution out.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Of the rappers.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: And somehow I think Drake might be the only one
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: that put anything in his songs that reference anything about
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: that when he taking shots at Khaled.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: And I think he had like a.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Free free um gaza in one of his recent songs
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: that i read in one of these art articles except
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: people are believing that that it could be it could
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: be in reference to some caribbean area that also calls
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: themselves gaza but yeah i'll forward you the article that
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: says that drake it may or may not be weighing
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: in to to this that would be interesting on a
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: on a number of levels i was stunned yeah i
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: was stunned by it but that's.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: A yeah i don't yeah i don't I don't really
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: know where the Lenny Kravitz delegation stands on these matters.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: But I think, I mean, I, so we probably, this
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: will end up in a longer conversation, but I think
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: that we don't take into account how someone's identity can
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: be shifted by what's happening to and around them. And
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: I think that he looks back on the Kendrick thing
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: as like, y'all acting like he the realist. when he
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: working for the man, and this was all orchestrated by
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: the man. And now he finds himself in a position
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: where there's a lane to be like, nah, I'm the realist.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: I'm down for the people. I'm trying to be independent.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: I'm not operating as an arm of the industry. I
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: think that is a lane that is available to him,
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: how genuine it is or not, or whether he wants
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: to take it or not. It's a lane that's there now,
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: and it's the only way that I think he can
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: save face from the Kendrick thing, because... That was a
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: big old fat L. And now he's suing people and
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: they're like, why are you suing? And his response is,
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: I'm suing the man.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: I'm the people. I'm suing the big man.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: And it's like a compelling place to be.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Yeah, like I could see how you came up with that.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's true. Oh, I know. I'm looking
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: at Drake like, it's not that I don't get what
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: you're going for here. Yeah, right. It's just that, yeah.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: But no, it's coming, man. Yeah, it is coming.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: I mean, look, election year, we're lucky it's not a
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: big election year, assuming.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: We're going to have one of those.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: But we're lucky it's not a big election year, but
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I don't think this is going to be the end
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: on this.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: Can I ask you a question?
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: And this might sound stupid, but I have never felt
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: like my algorithm is more distinct than from people in
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: my circle than before. Like it used to be, and
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: maybe it's about me getting older and spending less time
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: in the social media. But so often, like my buddy,
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: Charlie Kravitz, we're like different demographically. However, there used to
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: be a time, it felt like five years ago that
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: if I saw it, I knew he saw it. And
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: now there's so many different things that it's like, I
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: never see it. or I see something that he never sees.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: It just feels that the algorithm is being, it's just,
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: it's less of the monoculture, which I know is not
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: a new thing, but it feels even more extreme and
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: distinct to me.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. I do feel like all our
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: friends are getting the same, fuck Stephen A. Smith content. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: I think we all getting that. We in that demo,
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: for sure. Yeah, we in that. That's a good question.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: I wish there could be a way that we could
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: just like, I could put my account next to your account.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: And they could tell us, but the only way we
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: could do that is we have to sell our information over.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I'd love to see like how similar and different like
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: our two accounts plus Ryan.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure it'd be very different. I don't, yeah.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: I mean, I noticed in like our group chat that
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: you guys surface things that I hadn't seen before. And
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: I'll surface things that surprise you that I, or I'll
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: get something sent to me two days after I seen it.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: And I was like, hey, that's weird. I know you
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: was on there. Why are you just seeing this now?
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: It's just a weird- That's a good question.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: The thing for people to realize is when we watch
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: the news, we're not watching the same news. Everybody having
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: different news to watch is really bad. On one hand,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: you could say that, but at the same time, you
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: could make an argument that all of us watching different
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: news is bad, but is all of us watching the
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: same news good?
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: The answer, obviously, is somewhere in between.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Yeah, there's so much information that someone has to make
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: editorial decisions. And at one point, we knew who was
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: making editorial decisions. And now it doesn't feel like we
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: know who's making editorial decisions.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Well, what I know is the decision is you probably
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: sent me something that either is a woman you think
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: I'm attractive or a person you think is going to
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: make me mad. Like, that's why I mentioned the Stephen
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: A thing. They're like, nah, man, we know this will
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: get y'all going. Stephen A, right here, saying stuff that
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: you don't like. We gonna get it all.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Like, in his.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Little sit down with Jamel, the thing I found interesting
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: was like hearing how much he was critical of Trump.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: They'll never send me when he do that. I don't
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: ever send that.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: I noticed that I feel like I have less control
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: because there was a time when I felt like I
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: could train my algorithm away from things. But now it's like, nah, nah,
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: you fit in this demo. And they keep trying me.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: They keep trying me. Keep trying me till I watch
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: one of these videos of somebody doing some shit that
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: I don't like.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: And they just like, I know who you are.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: No matter what you try to convince me, I know
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: that you're going to end up back here looking at this.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: It's either big booties or it's somebody talking bad about
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: black people. It's one or the other. It's one or
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: the other. They know who I am. They know what
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: I want to see. That's Dominique Fosberg.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Check him out on the Dominique Fosberg Show, available with
