- 0:17Speaker 1: right shine another mind Talking dogs day Line, don't talk,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you gotta wurk.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee. Let's Talk is
- 0:26Speaker 2: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real Talk, Real Experience,
- 0:30Speaker 2: Real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let that conversation
- 0:34Speaker 2: begin on Let's Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Carl Lee with Let's Talk.
- 0:40Speaker 3: And I have my co host Hollis Lewis and Lisa
- 0:43Speaker 3: Odie in the building.
- 0:45Speaker 4: And we've got a guest that Hollis is.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Gonna introduce, and we're gonna start the day off with
- 0:51Speaker 3: a little bit of youth football conversation. So my favorite
- 0:54Speaker 3: saying yeah for sure. So we have Courtney Campbell Williams.
- 0:58Speaker 3: She is the president of Umbar Football and Cheer here
- 1:02Speaker 3: in the Kanal Valley in Dunbar, West Virginia. And the
- 1:07Speaker 3: reason I feel like it's important to like have you
- 1:11Speaker 3: I and we're gonna get to your live here in
- 1:13Speaker 3: a second. But you know, one of the things that
- 1:16Speaker 3: I've had a big problem with is that number one,
- 1:20Speaker 3: we've in the Kanal Valley. We've gone from from you know,
- 1:24Speaker 3: we had a plethora of teams. Now we're down to,
- 1:27Speaker 3: you know, not that many teams like it was when
- 1:29Speaker 3: we were growing up. And it seems as though every
- 1:32Speaker 3: time the City Charleston, Dunbar, South Charleston, we get in
- 1:36Speaker 3: the league and somehow these leagues find us a way
- 1:39Speaker 3: to kick us out the league for whatever reason. So
- 1:43Speaker 3: how long have you been the president of Dunbar and
- 1:45Speaker 3: how many leagues have you gone through just being a
- 1:48Speaker 3: part of.
- 1:48Speaker 5: I've been the president of Dunbar for two years and
- 1:51Speaker 5: I was the vice president of Dunbar for two years
- 1:53Speaker 5: as well, So I've been there.
- 1:54Speaker 6: For four years.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Four years.
- 1:55Speaker 3: And how many different leagues have you guys been in
- 1:58Speaker 3: and out of in that time?
- 2:00Speaker 7: This is our third league gee.
- 2:03Speaker 3: And again, and from what I know, it's not necessarily
- 2:05Speaker 3: any fault of your own. It's just like I said,
- 2:07Speaker 3: we get in these leagues and they find a way
- 2:09Speaker 3: to to, you know, kick us out. And I've even
- 2:12Speaker 3: gotten to the point of frustration where I don't even
- 2:14Speaker 3: allow my girls to cheer anymore. Like I have you know,
- 2:17Speaker 3: six or seven year old girls and they're not even
- 2:19Speaker 3: allowed to cheer because of the controversies of what's going on.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So in this last issue, what could you just explain
- 2:28Speaker 3: what was the issue when, like why did you have
- 2:30Speaker 3: to switch leagues this time? And before before you say that,
- 2:34Speaker 3: I can't wait for this answer because I don't I
- 2:37Speaker 3: don't know where they come up with these things, like
- 2:40Speaker 3: like like all of what you find out is all
- 2:42Speaker 3: of a sudden, like you're just out, like they created
- 2:47Speaker 3: they create a situation where they've got a schedule.
- 2:50Speaker 4: And we're talking about the presidents of these other leagues.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Of the other leagues or the leagues that we were in.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Right what happens is we realized that we're not in that.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So I'm curious of what what what her what her voice,
- 3:06Speaker 3: what she's gonna say to this.
- 3:09Speaker 5: So I just want to clarify the Dunbar Bullpups have
- 3:12Speaker 5: never been kicked out of any league or franchise.
- 3:16Speaker 7: In the area.
- 3:18Speaker 5: The reason why we were out of the last league
- 3:21Speaker 5: was based upon a promise that wasn't kept and I
- 3:24Speaker 5: made the decision to remove my team from that league.
- 3:29Speaker 5: So we were in the Tri State League. When the
- 3:33Speaker 5: original league that we were in it was Dunbar Charleston,
- 3:37Speaker 5: South Charleston, Saint Albans.
- 3:39Speaker 7: And South Hills. I believe that was all that was
- 3:42Speaker 7: in our league.
- 3:43Speaker 5: When we disbanded last year, we decided to go to
- 3:47Speaker 5: the Tri State League.
- 3:48Speaker 7: We went to the Tri State League.
- 3:49Speaker 5: We met with them great great people, John and Kenney.
- 3:54Speaker 5: There were great people there, but they promised us that.
- 3:57Speaker 7: We would be able to keep our grandfather players.
- 4:02Speaker 5: If you know anything about youth sports here in the valley,
- 4:04Speaker 5: then you know that Dunbar is the longest running youth
- 4:07Speaker 5: sports program.
- 4:08Speaker 7: Here in the valley.
- 4:09Speaker 5: We're the only ones that have not disbanded. We're not
- 4:12Speaker 5: We're the only ones who have not merged with anybody else.
- 4:15Speaker 5: We've always stood on our own two feet. But we're
- 4:18Speaker 5: able to do that because we are a legacy account holders.
- 4:22Speaker 5: So it's say I cheer for us, my daughter cheers
- 4:26Speaker 5: for us, then she'll bring her daughter to cheer for us.
- 4:29Speaker 5: And that's how we sustain because we keep it a
- 4:31Speaker 5: family like atmosphere, so people keep coming and coming and coming.
- 4:34Speaker 5: But with us also being so stable and being such
- 4:38Speaker 5: a long running organization, other people from other teams have
- 4:42Speaker 5: come to us two over the years.
- 4:44Speaker 7: From other schools that aren't technically ours.
- 4:47Speaker 5: They have come to us school too over the years
- 4:49Speaker 5: to play for us, just because we had that stability.
- 4:52Speaker 5: And when we went to the tri State last year,
- 4:55Speaker 5: we was able to win the silver bracket turffall they
- 4:59Speaker 5: have a silver bracket, a gold bracket. We won the
- 5:01Speaker 5: silver bracket championship, we won the cheer Championship, we won
- 5:05Speaker 5: the Spirit Award, all with these different players from different teams.
- 5:09Speaker 5: So when we went back in there in December, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 5: to regroup about the season and see what we could
- 5:15Speaker 5: make better and what changes we need to make, there
- 5:18Speaker 5: was basically our name on a whiteboard that said Dumbar
- 5:21Speaker 5: with thirteen schools. Every other school had about five or
- 5:25Speaker 5: six schools. They said, we pulled from thirteen, but we
- 5:29Speaker 5: also have kids at private with private schools as well,
- 5:32Speaker 5: and then Dumbar you know intermediate primary.
- 5:35Speaker 7: It's K through two and three through five.
- 5:37Speaker 5: So it looks like we have a lot more than
- 5:38Speaker 5: what we actually had. So because of this, and because
- 5:42Speaker 5: of all the wins and things like that, we felt
- 5:45Speaker 5: like we were being targeted because we had those wins.
- 5:50Speaker 5: So what they did was was they limited our numbers
- 5:52Speaker 5: of schools.
- 5:53Speaker 7: So they said, you can.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Have Dunbar Intermediate and Dunbar Primary, which is a K
- 5:57Speaker 5: through two and at three through five, and you can
- 6:00Speaker 5: have Shawnee School.
- 6:01Speaker 7: And I'm like, Shawnee School hasn't been open for years.
- 6:05Speaker 7: It does not exist.
- 6:06Speaker 5: They're like, well, still on the Kanah County website. I'm like, well,
- 6:08Speaker 5: you can drive over there if you want to. You're
- 6:10Speaker 5: not gonna see nobody in.
- 6:11Speaker 7: The parking lot.
- 6:11Speaker 5: It does not exist. So I can't pull from someplace
- 6:14Speaker 5: that does not exist. So they gave me Bridge Valley,
- 6:18Speaker 5: excuse me, bridge View and two other schools, But that
- 6:23Speaker 5: would have still meant that I would have had to
- 6:25Speaker 5: say goodbye to thirty seven players that have played for
- 6:29Speaker 5: me over the years. I have people who have played
- 6:31Speaker 5: for me since D team and now they're on a team,
- 6:34Speaker 5: and I would have had to tell them goodbye.
- 6:36Speaker 7: And I run a kid's league.
- 6:38Speaker 3: And just to be clear, the schools, the thirteen schools
- 6:41Speaker 3: that were making up where your players are from. It's
- 6:43Speaker 3: not as though you were recruiting those kids. Those kids
- 6:46Speaker 3: were coming in because for example, I played it Kana
- 6:49Speaker 3: City coach, I played at Western Generals. Those teams don't
- 6:51Speaker 3: exist no more. And I know particularly what happened with
- 6:55Speaker 3: Western Generals is that when that organization disbanded, a lot
- 6:59Speaker 3: of those coaches and kids went to Dunbar. Hints what
- 7:02Speaker 3: you said about stability, so in in in switching going
- 7:08Speaker 3: to now get a new league. How does that does
- 7:12Speaker 3: that hurt? How does that affect you moving forward?
- 7:16Speaker 5: Well, it's been a great thing so due to the
- 7:19Speaker 5: conditioning and things like that. So initially I did have
- 7:22Speaker 5: to tell my kids, you know, they're not going to
- 7:24Speaker 5: let me keep my grandfather kids, but in order to
- 7:26Speaker 5: keep my program, I'm just gonna have to let you go.
- 7:29Speaker 5: And I sat on it for about two weeks and
- 7:31Speaker 5: I said, I cannot do that to them. I literally
- 7:34Speaker 5: had kids making those little kids facebooks and they were
- 7:36Speaker 5: messaging me like, hey miss Courtney, when it is cheered
- 7:38Speaker 5: practice er. I'm like, I can't. I can't do this
- 7:40Speaker 5: to them. So I went back, you know, I try
- 7:43Speaker 5: to contact the try State. I called an emergency meeting.
- 7:46Speaker 5: I try to regroup, but try to let them know,
- 7:48Speaker 5: you know, what was going on, and they just they
- 7:52Speaker 5: just didn't want to hear it.
- 7:54Speaker 6: I have a question for you, Courtney, and I'm sorry
- 7:56Speaker 6: you're going through this.
- 7:56Speaker 8: I know it must be tough on the kids, an't
- 7:58Speaker 8: on you as well, but so so changing leagues that
- 8:01Speaker 8: you had to do that in order to keep all
- 8:03Speaker 8: of your kids together, which is understandable. What if, Courtney,
- 8:07Speaker 8: they would have come to you and said, Okay, we'll
- 8:09Speaker 8: let you keep these grandfathered kids in, but once those
- 8:13Speaker 8: kids run through your league, you still have to draw
- 8:16Speaker 8: from these schools that we've assigned. Would that be a
- 8:20Speaker 8: possibility for you, guys.
- 8:21Speaker 5: That's what I was actually hoping that they would have
- 8:23Speaker 5: countered me for. Uh huh, I I wish that would
- 8:26Speaker 5: have been the counter offer. It's easier for me to say, hey,
- 8:30Speaker 5: I've had these kids forever. I can keep them, and
- 8:33Speaker 5: I will keep the boundaries of the new kids coming
- 8:35Speaker 5: in right, and I will you know, I will try
- 8:37Speaker 5: to monitor that limit that just let me keep these kids.
- 8:40Speaker 5: And that's what I honestly thought they was going to
- 8:41Speaker 5: let me do. But they just didn't make me that off.
- 8:44Speaker 6: It just wasn't on the table at all.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Okay, So I want to let me ask this question.
- 8:51Speaker 3: When you the folks that you're talking about, you're talking
- 8:54Speaker 3: about the leadership of the leagues, right, yes, which typically
- 8:58Speaker 3: are the president of each one of those Leaguesidents fourteen.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Yes, So.
- 9:06Speaker 3: For for us, I know that I don't to my
- 9:10Speaker 3: to my knowledge and you can correct me if I'm
- 9:12Speaker 3: wrong here. I don't think that we have like when
- 9:16Speaker 3: you guys were in a separate league, that conversation with
- 9:20Speaker 3: the past, the league that we were in together, the
- 9:22Speaker 3: conversation that you all had, we had no We had
- 9:26Speaker 3: no idea because we got stuck. We weren't aware of
- 9:31Speaker 3: the last two leagues that have taken place. We had
- 9:34Speaker 3: no idea that was that was even happening. We looked
- 9:39Speaker 3: up when somebody posted here's this new league, here's the
- 9:42Speaker 3: new Canal County League.
- 9:45Speaker 4: We were not in it. You all were not in it.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Saint Albans was not in it.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I think GW was, or South Hills was not in it.
- 9:58Speaker 7: Just the Appalachian League.
- 9:59Speaker 5: Yes, So we did apply to the Appalachian League last
- 10:03Speaker 5: year before we applied to the Tri State League. But
- 10:10Speaker 5: just to be honest, they basically told me the only
- 10:13Speaker 5: way that they would accept.
- 10:14Speaker 7: My program into their program.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Was if I let go of our boys coordinator at
- 10:20Speaker 5: a time, which was Seawan Tom Forte coach Cutty. And
- 10:25Speaker 5: if you know anything about dunbar football. There's no Dunbar
- 10:27Speaker 5: football without coach Cutty. And I was not willing to
- 10:30Speaker 5: make that adjustment to them.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Why would that be a demand, do you think?
- 10:36Speaker 5: I think it's a demand because he's such, he's such
- 10:39Speaker 5: a large presence, but it's because he's a good person
- 10:44Speaker 5: and sometimes us he's very vocal about his past and
- 10:51Speaker 5: what he's done to better himself throughout. So they made
- 10:56Speaker 5: it seem as though it may have been a background
- 11:01Speaker 5: fault of his but to our knowledge, dumbar football knowledge,
- 11:06Speaker 5: the incident that they're referring to was thirty two years old,
- 11:09Speaker 5: So that's just an.
- 11:11Speaker 7: Excuse to me.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I agree.
- 11:13Speaker 5: They couldn't give me any other reason as to why
- 11:16Speaker 5: they did not want to let us in. The only
- 11:18Speaker 5: stipulation I was given was to let him go, and
- 11:21Speaker 5: I don't. We don't leave any bullpups behind and let me.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Let me let me say.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Let me say this, and I've said it on Facebook
- 11:29Speaker 3: a number of times.
- 11:31Speaker 4: If there is.
- 11:31Speaker 3: An individual, if there is an individual who is dedicated
- 11:39Speaker 3: sold all the way in is kids, it is cutting
- 11:46Speaker 3: John Forte. You like he he he will fight you
- 11:50Speaker 3: over his kids, you know. And he don't have to
- 11:52Speaker 3: have no relationship with with it. He's adamant about he's
- 11:57Speaker 3: passionate about the game aim Because all of that, you
- 12:03Speaker 3: can't to me, you can't look at that person and
- 12:09Speaker 3: say you need him to go.
- 12:11Speaker 4: What you should be doing.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Is how do I get a guy like that? That's
- 12:15Speaker 3: to me, that's the issue.
- 12:17Speaker 8: Is there some type of in their league? That's that's
- 12:19Speaker 8: the rule, even you have some type of you know,
- 12:24Speaker 8: charge or something that you can't be a coach or
- 12:25Speaker 8: no like over riding regulations.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Of course, with every league, there's one thing that makes
- 12:31Speaker 5: sure of with every league that you're in, it's that
- 12:33Speaker 5: you're not a registered sex dependent and sometimes sometimes some
- 12:39Speaker 5: leagues have a rule where you cannot have a recent
- 12:43Speaker 5: criminal activity like a violent crush. Sure, but to my knowledge,
- 12:49Speaker 5: that's not his background either, and it was a lot.
- 12:55Speaker 4: To me.
- 12:55Speaker 3: The background part of this for him makes no sense,
- 13:00Speaker 3: like there's he's been he's been coaching already for who
- 13:06Speaker 3: knows how long? So how where now does this all
- 13:09Speaker 3: of a sudden show up?
- 13:11Speaker 9: Right?
- 13:11Speaker 4: You know, like why would this? Why would this show up?
- 13:14Speaker 3: If he's been able to he's been around these kids,
- 13:16Speaker 3: he's been a positive impact on these particular kids the
- 13:20Speaker 3: entire time he's been there. Right now, you're going to
- 13:24Speaker 3: hold him accountable for something from from his past to
- 13:28Speaker 3: keep him from touching those kids. But I think it's
- 13:31Speaker 3: a it's a community thing. I think when you go
- 13:33Speaker 3: from community community we have different understanding of certain things.
- 13:36Speaker 3: But the question I want to ask is that you know,
- 13:39Speaker 3: like just moving forward from a like a sort of
- 13:43Speaker 3: a holistic bird's eye of you perspective just on you sports,
- 13:47Speaker 3: particularly here in the valley, what would you just like
- 13:50Speaker 3: to see done like in your perfect world? Like what
- 13:54Speaker 3: would what would your perfect world look like as far
- 13:56Speaker 3: as you know, kids competing in football, chair and whatever else?
- 14:00Speaker 3: How would a league be made up?
- 14:03Speaker 7: Let's see my perfect world. My perfect world, we would
- 14:06Speaker 7: have a sports.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Complex that would be accessible to all kids at no
- 14:12Speaker 5: costs to the franchises. So if we want to go
- 14:16Speaker 5: and have a game someplace, we have to pay to
- 14:18Speaker 5: go there.
- 14:20Speaker 7: It would be nice if we did not have to
- 14:21Speaker 7: pay to go there.
- 14:22Speaker 5: This is for kids, and when we're having to pay
- 14:23Speaker 5: for practices, we have to pay for games, So it
- 14:25Speaker 5: would be nice to have access to facility.
- 14:28Speaker 7: It would be nice to Last year.
- 14:32Speaker 5: My vice president and I we worked year round and
- 14:35Speaker 5: we raised ninety thousand dollars to get all new equipment
- 14:39Speaker 5: for our kids.
- 14:40Speaker 7: It would be nice if, just in my perfect world,
- 14:43Speaker 7: if the.
- 14:43Speaker 5: City of Dunbar would take some ownership and look at
- 14:46Speaker 5: their UTH sports program and.
- 14:48Speaker 7: See what they could do to actually help us out
- 14:49Speaker 7: the way.
- 14:49Speaker 5: We're not out here having a grind like we had
- 14:52Speaker 5: to grind, So that would be great. It would be
- 14:55Speaker 5: nice if I didn't have to charge as much as
- 14:58Speaker 5: I have to charge my kids.
- 14:59Speaker 7: I have to charge one sixty five for cheer on
- 15:01Speaker 7: thirty for football.
- 15:02Speaker 5: And that's also because Dunbar, the City of Dunbar doesn't
- 15:05Speaker 5: take pride and it's U sports program and provide us
- 15:09Speaker 5: with the funds to be able to do more. But
- 15:12Speaker 5: it would be great if I had if I had
- 15:16Speaker 5: more coach Cutties. It would be great if I had
- 15:18Speaker 5: more coach Grandmas. She's the equivalent to Coach Cutty, but
- 15:22Speaker 5: she's for cheerleaders. And it would be great if I
- 15:26Speaker 5: had parents who were willing to step up and do
- 15:28Speaker 5: the work that was needed to make sure that the
- 15:31Speaker 5: programs are taken care of. I can sit here all
- 15:33Speaker 5: day long and bash a city for not taking care
- 15:36Speaker 5: of us or say, you know, I've been out here
- 15:39Speaker 5: doing this and that. But it would be great if
- 15:42Speaker 5: we had parents that said, Okay, I do have this
- 15:45Speaker 5: kid here that comes to practice every day and they
- 15:48Speaker 5: don't have enough money for cleats, but I got an
- 15:51Speaker 5: old pair of cleats at home, or I got an
- 15:53Speaker 5: extra fifty dollars. You know, I can step in and
- 15:55Speaker 5: help those kids out. That would be my perfect world.
- 15:59Speaker 5: And another thing is it would be just so great
- 16:03Speaker 5: if adults would just let the kids do what they.
- 16:06Speaker 3: That's always What about what about like first league wide?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Would you like to see a situation in which, you know,
- 16:13Speaker 3: it kind of almost reverted back where because I know, like,
- 16:16Speaker 3: for example, Charleston Cougar the little and I think maybe
- 16:19Speaker 3: you guys they're like traveling to Parkersburg every other week.
- 16:23Speaker 4: And that's crazy.
- 16:24Speaker 7: We're in the same league.
- 16:25Speaker 4: So are you back in Okay? So yeah, we're all
- 16:27Speaker 4: in the same Okay.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Yes, So when I made the move to go to
- 16:31Speaker 5: the Ohio Valley League, it was just on Saturday, Saturday.
- 16:35Speaker 7: We just moved Saturday, and.
- 16:38Speaker 3: You guys have to pretty much like go back and
- 16:40Speaker 3: forth to Parkersburg every other week.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Is that Basically, we have.
- 16:43Speaker 5: Four home games that are here in Dunbar or South Charleston,
- 16:47Speaker 5: and then I have four away games. We had to
- 16:50Speaker 5: travel a lot last year due to be in the
- 16:52Speaker 5: Profit League, so we're used to it. Okay, we're just
- 16:54Speaker 5: happy to be able to play, but it would be
- 16:57Speaker 5: nice to be able to get the local teams and
- 16:59Speaker 5: things like that to get other again. But once again,
- 17:01Speaker 5: that's not going to be able to happen until certain
- 17:04Speaker 5: adults put their egos aside, if we let until we
- 17:07Speaker 5: let go of stereotypes, because there's a stigma on certain leagues.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Dunbar is blessed enough. I don't know how to say
- 17:16Speaker 5: that the note, you know, a more classy way, but
- 17:20Speaker 5: we're the bougie black people. We're we're the boogie.
- 17:24Speaker 7: Black League in the valley.
- 17:26Speaker 5: And then of course, you know there's another league that
- 17:29Speaker 5: is considered the ghetto black league in the valley, and
- 17:34Speaker 5: you know, people don't want to play against them, or
- 17:37Speaker 5: every time we do play against them, you know, there's
- 17:39Speaker 5: always a stigma that is there going to be a fighter,
- 17:41Speaker 5: They're going to be, you know, doing something they're not
- 17:43Speaker 5: supposed to be doing. I just think we just need
- 17:45Speaker 5: to get rid of the stigmas, get rid of the stereotypes,
- 17:47Speaker 5: and realize that if we do not come together, these
- 17:49Speaker 5: kids ultimately will not have a place to play because
- 17:53Speaker 5: that league's done.
- 17:55Speaker 7: We've left the Try State League.
- 17:57Speaker 5: I'm sure we could go back if we wanted to,
- 17:59Speaker 5: but I don't want to as my kids. The o
- 18:01Speaker 5: Higher River Valley League has accepted us with open arms.
- 18:03Speaker 5: They seem like great people. But if this doesn't work out,
- 18:07Speaker 5: then what's next. We have to realize that all we
- 18:10Speaker 5: have is each other and.
- 18:12Speaker 3: That's ultimately let me let me, let me ask her
- 18:15Speaker 3: this question. Do you think that we need outside help
- 18:20Speaker 3: to to fight this battle? Because as coaches and going
- 18:27Speaker 3: to the meetings, they're never going to really let us in.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I mean they're never you know, they're because they don't
- 18:32Speaker 3: they don't be yes, because they don't. They don't want
- 18:34Speaker 3: to play you all, you know, they don't they don't
- 18:37Speaker 3: want to play Charleston.
- 18:38Speaker 4: You know, they just they you know, it is.
- 18:40Speaker 3: The quote black teams that they do not want to play.
- 18:44Speaker 3: And we're not a black team, even though we're considered
- 18:46Speaker 3: that we're not that. But it's like they won't, they
- 18:50Speaker 3: don't want to play because they don't feel like they
- 18:52Speaker 3: can win. And I think we should be playing in
- 18:57Speaker 3: the valley. If you're in the valley, you should be
- 19:00Speaker 3: playing in the ballet. I think also, man, it's ain't
- 19:02Speaker 3: about black and white. This suit that are kids like
- 19:05Speaker 3: this should be like just for kids. And my problem
- 19:08Speaker 3: with this and all kind of the issues that's going
- 19:11Speaker 3: around with the different leagues and everything is that sports
- 19:14Speaker 3: are foundation. So whether you're talking about football, whether you're
- 19:17Speaker 3: talking about cheer, a lot of these kids black, white, otherwise, poor, rich, whatever,
- 19:22Speaker 3: this is the foundation that they're going to maintain themselves
- 19:25Speaker 3: in school. Some of these kids are going to get scholarships.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Some of these kids are gonna go and do great
- 19:29Speaker 3: things off the backs of sports. So to your point,
- 19:33Speaker 3: coordinat like the focus are to be the kids. Yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 19:36Speaker 5: So I don't think that we need outside help. I
- 19:40Speaker 5: don't think that we need outside help to kind of
- 19:43Speaker 5: get us together. What I think is is we need
- 19:45Speaker 5: to build an alliance within us. All the presidents in
- 19:48Speaker 5: the valley need to come together, call it a truce,
- 19:50Speaker 5: and let's start over. Because if we can't get it
- 19:53Speaker 5: together with just us, somebody coming intent every top of
- 19:56Speaker 5: our shoulder telling us what to do isn't going to
- 19:58Speaker 5: make us any better. I'm a firm belief if you know,
- 20:01Speaker 5: if you want to play for me, you can play
- 20:03Speaker 5: for me. If you want to play somebody else, you
- 20:04Speaker 5: can play for somebody else. I want you to be happy,
- 20:06Speaker 5: and I'm not going to be happy with somebody standard
- 20:08Speaker 5: top of my back telling me how to run my program.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I love that, and I love that, and I'm not
- 20:13Speaker 3: saying that they're going to that they're going to be
- 20:16Speaker 3: overseeing your program, right, I'm not.
- 20:19Speaker 4: That's not my thing. My thing is we are all back.
- 20:23Speaker 4: If you're if your league, if your team is in
- 20:26Speaker 4: the Kanall County, if you're in Kanall County, you should
- 20:29Speaker 4: be playing in Kanall County.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Well, I think that's to a point, Like just to
- 20:34Speaker 3: her point. What she's saying is like Kanall County got
- 20:37Speaker 3: to come together first before you can just for somebody else.
- 20:41Speaker 4: I'm with that, but we don't have that. The teams
- 20:44Speaker 4: that are in Kanall County now that are set up,
- 20:49Speaker 4: they don't want they don't they're not taking us.
- 20:51Speaker 3: But that's her point, That's what I'm saying, So we
- 20:56Speaker 3: have to That's why I'm saying we have to get
- 20:58Speaker 3: somebody on the outside and get I get when you
- 21:02Speaker 3: say you don't want anybody on outside telling us what
- 21:04Speaker 3: to do, I'm saying saying that you can't do these things.
- 21:09Speaker 4: You can't do these things and play on Kannall County.
- 21:12Speaker 8: See.
- 21:13Speaker 5: See.
- 21:13Speaker 7: I think the complete opposite.
- 21:15Speaker 5: I think that when you you know, you start something,
- 21:18Speaker 5: you have bylaws. It's the simplest following the rules. I
- 21:22Speaker 5: don't need you made micro management. I got a set
- 21:23Speaker 5: of bylaws.
- 21:24Speaker 7: We're going to follow them. We can agree on them.
- 21:26Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, we can.
- 21:27Speaker 7: Get it figured out.
- 21:28Speaker 8: I just had a quick question for you guys. You're
- 21:30Speaker 8: all the little league gurus here.
- 21:32Speaker 6: And I'm out here no man's land.
- 21:34Speaker 8: But so I know, Courtney, you expressed concern about your
- 21:39Speaker 8: your perceived lack of support from from the Dunbar community.
- 21:43Speaker 8: It sounds like you don't get the level of support
- 21:45Speaker 8: that you would like. What are other little leagues, you know,
- 21:48Speaker 8: the ones that, for example, South Charleston do the cities
- 21:52Speaker 8: of those little leagues that different little leagues do they.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Support their team our city, our city.
- 21:56Speaker 8: With finances and equipment and things that you.
- 21:59Speaker 7: Are of Charleston his top tier.
- 22:03Speaker 5: That man has made sure that every single little league
- 22:08Speaker 5: in his city, basketball, baseball, football, cheer is free.
- 22:12Speaker 7: It's no extra cost of the pearance.
- 22:14Speaker 5: And that is they have a place to play, they
- 22:17Speaker 5: have equipment that's up to date. The mayor of Charleston,
- 22:21Speaker 5: she built a field over here on North Charleston for
- 22:24Speaker 5: her team. She recognizes them even when they win a game.
- 22:28Speaker 5: She lets them come to city Hall and gets certificates
- 22:30Speaker 5: and stuff like that. For lack of better words, the
- 22:33Speaker 5: mayor of Dunbar is trash. He's never been to a practice.
- 22:37Speaker 5: I told y'all when y'all ask me to come here,
- 22:40Speaker 5: that's gonna keep it real. He's never been to a practice,
- 22:43Speaker 5: he's never called, he's never seen when we needed.
- 22:46Speaker 7: We've reached out several.
- 22:47Speaker 5: Times, you know, asking for just anything, and it's never
- 22:51Speaker 5: been done.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Well, you do have your delegate, so you know, I'm
- 22:54Speaker 3: a supporter and I you know, I do what I can.
- 22:56Speaker 3: And like I said, and moving forward, like I said,
- 23:00Speaker 3: if you wanted to try to facilitate that, I would
- 23:03Speaker 3: be happy to you know, be a part of that
- 23:05Speaker 3: and help that discussion. But like I said, the ultimately
- 23:09Speaker 3: the reason why I would invited you on the show
- 23:12Speaker 3: is to express the things that you've expressed, and I
- 23:14Speaker 3: just wanted the viewers out there, if you're listening, if
- 23:17Speaker 3: we're talking about youth sports, football, basketball, baseball, cheer gymnastics, tennis, whatever,
- 23:23Speaker 3: it's about the kids. It's about kids having fun, it's
- 23:27Speaker 3: about kids developing. It's not necessarily I mean, we all
- 23:30Speaker 3: want to win, no doubt, but it ain't even about winning.
- 23:33Speaker 3: It's about the kids. And we have to bring the
- 23:36Speaker 3: focus back to kids. I mean, if you watch social
- 23:40Speaker 3: media everyday, parents out of their minds at youth sports
- 23:45Speaker 3: and it's making it a toxic environment for everybody. Ultimately,
- 23:49Speaker 3: whether whatever whatever community were talking about, it's about kids.
- 23:54Speaker 3: I can't I can't even There's nothing I can say
- 23:57Speaker 3: that would.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Would go against anything that you're saying.
- 24:03Speaker 3: It's just the fact that I don't understand why we
- 24:06Speaker 3: are not focused on it.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Where are you looking like, well, where I don't know
- 24:12Speaker 4: looking Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I can't even
- 24:15Speaker 4: answer that.
- 24:16Speaker 3: You do need all of those things in every community
- 24:19Speaker 3: to fund or to support middle.
- 24:23Speaker 4: School, high school, you got to you've got to.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Have a system that's going to work up the up
- 24:28Speaker 3: the ladder and.
- 24:30Speaker 8: And honestly, if you guys can't you know, work together
- 24:33Speaker 8: as teams, you know, it's going to be difficult to secure,
- 24:36Speaker 8: you know, that that type of regulation and ruling and
- 24:39Speaker 8: financial support because you know, you guys are having to,
- 24:42Speaker 8: you know, jump from league to league because you're being
- 24:45Speaker 8: told one thing from one side and another from the
- 24:47Speaker 8: other side, and so it's real difficult for you guys
- 24:50Speaker 8: to unite because it's kind of like they've turned you
- 24:53Speaker 8: guys against each other to a degree, you know, because
- 24:56Speaker 8: of the rules and regulations, and so until you guys
- 24:59Speaker 8: can band together as a as a unit, it's it's
- 25:02Speaker 8: going to be hard, I would think, do you agree, Courtney,
- 25:05Speaker 8: I mean, it sounds to me that.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Absolutely is that way. And that's why the last week
- 25:10Speaker 5: that we were all in with Dumbar, South Charleston, Charleston,
- 25:14Speaker 5: GW and Saint Almands disbanded. It was just because we
- 25:16Speaker 5: did not come together internally. There should have been a conversation.
- 25:20Speaker 5: It shouldn't have left the way it was. Unfortunately, the
- 25:23Speaker 5: president of the league at that time didn't feel like
- 25:26Speaker 5: it was something.
- 25:26Speaker 7: That he needed to disclose, but that definitely.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Should have been a conversation. They should have come to
- 25:30Speaker 5: the table and been like, hey, if we don't get
- 25:31Speaker 5: it together, this league is going to be done and
- 25:34Speaker 5: you guys are going to have to travel and do
- 25:35Speaker 5: all this other stuff. And I guarantee you if they
- 25:38Speaker 5: would have known what the alternative was going to be.
- 25:43Speaker 3: So and again, so we want to leave on a
- 25:45Speaker 3: positive note. So when does Dunbar start first games? What
- 25:48Speaker 3: are you looking forward this season?
- 25:50Speaker 5: The grid rama is August the ninth, and it is
- 25:52Speaker 5: at Herbert Hoover High School. And I believe our first
- 25:56Speaker 5: game is the seventeenth, excuse me, not October.
- 26:00Speaker 7: August the ninth.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Is grid It's at Herbert Hoover High School. And then
- 26:04Speaker 5: our first game is August the seventeenth.
- 26:07Speaker 4: And when his first cheer cheer competition let the girls.
- 26:10Speaker 7: Out all it is September the twentieth.
- 26:14Speaker 3: All right, well, thank you Corney. We appreciate you coming
- 26:16Speaker 3: on and like I said, hopefully we can get this together.
- 26:19Speaker 6: Thank you, Courtney.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Switching switching conversation here.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Yeah, going from U Sports citing NFL and so Hollingstad
- 26:28Speaker 3: You've got this.
- 26:30Speaker 4: God.
- 26:31Speaker 3: So there was a story that recently came out about
- 26:35Speaker 3: you know, NFL players hockeying their Super Bowl tickets. So
- 26:40Speaker 3: I guess NFL players up around the league or maybe
- 26:43Speaker 3: with the teams. You get a certain amount of tickets
- 26:45Speaker 3: to the Super Bowl, and the players were selling the
- 26:50Speaker 3: tickets above market value. So it was about one hundred
- 26:55Speaker 3: players and coaches, because they just said they led the
- 26:57Speaker 3: article with players, but once you read the article, it's
- 27:00Speaker 3: players and coaches were selling their tickets above face value,
- 27:04Speaker 3: the NFL find out. So it was I think a
- 27:06Speaker 3: one hundred players from about fifteen twenty teams, something to
- 27:09Speaker 3: that effect. And so the players specifically, they were offered
- 27:13Speaker 3: either you can get a fine, which I think is
- 27:16Speaker 3: like one and a half times the value of the
- 27:18Speaker 3: ticket or some or what you sold it for, or
- 27:21Speaker 3: if you don't get a fine, you will forfeit your
- 27:23Speaker 3: Super Bowl tickets for the next two Super Bowls. So
- 27:28Speaker 3: I'm sure you've been in this situation where you had
- 27:30Speaker 3: I ain't say you sold tickets, but where you were
- 27:32Speaker 3: a lot of tickets.
- 27:34Speaker 4: So he was on the streets. So what happened so.
- 27:38Speaker 9: So so for the folks who who don't know, like
- 27:44Speaker 9: how we do, how we decide on topics or whatever,
- 27:47Speaker 9: we're texting back and forth and all of that, and
- 27:50Speaker 9: then I look up and holler send this text about.
- 27:55Speaker 8: I did about America just kind of was like, whoa,
- 28:00Speaker 8: this is something here, we need to talk about it.
- 28:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:02Speaker 3: So I'm like I laughed when I when when she
- 28:06Speaker 3: was talking about let's let's.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Talk about it.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Because at the end of the day, Okay, this is
- 28:13Speaker 3: how I see it, and let me let me. Let
- 28:15Speaker 3: me first admit the statute of limitation have ran. I
- 28:22Speaker 3: am going to admit super bowls. For all of the
- 28:28Speaker 3: super Bowls that I got tickets for if I didn't
- 28:31Speaker 3: go to the super Bowl, which I might have gone
- 28:34Speaker 3: to maybe two or three, maybe you know, I sold
- 28:37Speaker 3: the rest of them. Now, now, did you sell them
- 28:41Speaker 3: for market value or you were whatever it was going for?
- 28:48Speaker 4: That's a better way.
- 28:49Speaker 3: If I if I sell my if I sell my
- 28:51Speaker 3: s u V today, it's got a bunch of miles
- 28:54Speaker 3: on it, right, so I can't get I can't get
- 28:56Speaker 3: market value and super Bowl you might be able to
- 29:00Speaker 3: buy sell me super Bowl tickets.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Yeah, So my point was that my point, My point was.
- 29:07Speaker 3: That the fact that I realized that my SUV can't
- 29:10Speaker 3: be market value, you get me some up to date
- 29:14Speaker 3: Super Bowl tickets. I do realize that they're going to
- 29:18Speaker 3: be above the cost that's on the ticket. And so
- 29:22Speaker 3: in most cases, players, we guys on the team would
- 29:26Speaker 3: buy your ticket.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Some would be going, some might be I don't know
- 29:30Speaker 4: what they know.
- 29:31Speaker 3: So you're saying, guys that's playing in the game in
- 29:34Speaker 3: the super Bowl, the guys, your teammates, my teammates, you
- 29:38Speaker 3: some teammates may buy them. What they do with them,
- 29:42Speaker 3: I don't know. But there's also a market of people
- 29:46Speaker 3: who will who was there and around you in that
- 29:52Speaker 3: in settings that are saying, hey, are you going to
- 29:55Speaker 3: the Super Bowl?
- 29:56Speaker 4: No?
- 29:56Speaker 3: So they so they looking early like hey, you might
- 29:59Speaker 3: find them in in the parties. Yet it's not like
- 30:01Speaker 3: a dude like this is not like a football player
- 30:04Speaker 3: out on the street trying to like sell his ticket.
- 30:06Speaker 4: So you're getting solicited.
- 30:08Speaker 3: People you already know when you come in, if you
- 30:11Speaker 3: come in as a rookie, you make the team, you're
- 30:13Speaker 3: gonna get how many every Super Bowl tickets that that
- 30:16Speaker 3: that you're going to get from that team? You could
- 30:19Speaker 3: The very first thing you're going to see is veteran
- 30:23Speaker 3: players either buying or selling the tickets it's this is like,
- 30:27Speaker 3: it's crazy because you're trying to because what it sounds
- 30:30Speaker 3: like the way it's coming across is like this is
- 30:33Speaker 3: like this crazy.
- 30:35Speaker 4: They're out there peddling. That's what it's. That's the red life.
- 30:38Speaker 4: No it is.
- 30:39Speaker 6: That's the way I read.
- 30:39Speaker 4: That's the way I read.
- 30:40Speaker 3: I'm not saying guys are not doing that. I can't
- 30:43Speaker 3: say what they're doing now. I'm saying before I would
- 30:47Speaker 3: sell my tickets to you, and and yeah, I'm not
- 30:49Speaker 3: gonna if the ticket was ten dollars, you're probably gonna
- 30:52Speaker 3: pay me twenty got it?
- 30:54Speaker 6: Okay?
- 30:55Speaker 8: But but but that was that rule in place. The
- 30:57Speaker 8: rule that they got these guys with today, is that
- 31:00Speaker 8: in place back then that they had certain regulations for
- 31:03Speaker 8: the for the tickets.
- 31:04Speaker 3: From the article, it looks like this was part of
- 31:06Speaker 3: the CBA. So I don't know if this was like
- 31:09Speaker 3: old CBA or current CBA. So they stated part of
- 31:12Speaker 3: the CBA, you can't sell your tickets. I would say this,
- 31:16Speaker 3: and I'll ask just in in in thought process, if
- 31:20Speaker 3: that was something that was so bad, would management tell
- 31:24Speaker 3: you can't sell your tickets? Don't it's part of the CBA.
- 31:28Speaker 3: So I'm guessing players know you can't sell. But it's
- 31:32Speaker 3: written somewhere fine print.
- 31:34Speaker 4: But I'm just saying we it was. It was, It
- 31:36Speaker 4: was a it was an easy.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Thing for us, like it was automatic, like you already knew,
- 31:42Speaker 3: like I already know the week that, the last year,
- 31:46Speaker 3: last game. Whenever you get your whenever you get your
- 31:48Speaker 3: Super Bowl tickets, the very first thing that you're gonna
- 31:52Speaker 3: hear about is.
- 31:56Speaker 4: Who do you want to buy my tickets?
- 31:58Speaker 8: Well, let me ask you this. I'm gonna open a
- 32:00Speaker 8: Pandora's boxes. This just crossed my mind. So, okay, So
- 32:03Speaker 8: when you get these tickets, yearly tickets for the Super Bowl, right,
- 32:07Speaker 8: are you assigned a certain seat a certain section? Is
- 32:11Speaker 8: this ticket assigned to Carl Lee? This certain seat, this
- 32:14Speaker 8: certain place.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I don't know if it has my name on it,
- 32:16Speaker 4: but it's going to have a s.
- 32:17Speaker 8: But but there's a paper trail that leads the ticket to use.
- 32:20Speaker 8: What I'm saying correct, like, this is your seat.
- 32:22Speaker 6: At the super Bowl.
- 32:23Speaker 4: I don't, I don't think because I don't has to be.
- 32:26Speaker 4: It has to be.
- 32:28Speaker 6: So let's let's let's play Devil's advocate here.
- 32:30Speaker 8: Let's say that you your teammates says, Hey, you know
- 32:33Speaker 8: you got this super Bowl ticket and you go, okay, sure,
- 32:35Speaker 8: I'll give it to you for face value. But then
- 32:36Speaker 8: your your buddy goes out there and he sells it
- 32:40Speaker 8: for a profit. Are you still held responsible for that
- 32:42Speaker 8: because it's your tickets?
- 32:44Speaker 4: You may be, But so I would.
- 32:46Speaker 8: Be careful about who I give that super Bowl ticket to, right, Hollis.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm guessing you're responsible there.
- 32:52Speaker 3: There has to be some paper trail allotment of numbers
- 32:55Speaker 3: or something like these batch of tickets when this is
- 32:58Speaker 3: this team, this one to that team, and it was
- 32:59Speaker 3: distribute this way. I'm going to say, I'm going to
- 33:02Speaker 3: say I'm going to go out on a limb because again,
- 33:06Speaker 3: I think this is funny.
- 33:08Speaker 4: I don't. I don't see this as serious as what
- 33:11Speaker 4: the league might see it. Because what I yes, the
- 33:16Speaker 4: reality of who doesn't.
- 33:18Speaker 3: My question would be if you're not if you're not
- 33:22Speaker 3: going to the playoffs, or you're not in the playoffs,
- 33:24Speaker 3: or you don't want to go.
- 33:25Speaker 4: To the super Bowl, who's who's not selling the tickets?
- 33:30Speaker 2: Right?
- 33:30Speaker 4: Who's not going to sell the ticket?
- 33:32Speaker 3: And I think the point that you made at the
- 33:34Speaker 3: on set regarding you know, like, it's not as though
- 33:38Speaker 3: players like got these on Facebook market.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Sales or Craigslist or something.
- 33:43Speaker 3: They're like, if you're at dinner parties, if you're if
- 33:47Speaker 3: you're at dinner parties, if you're at this event, that
- 33:49Speaker 3: event is probably lawyers, c pas, doctors coming up to
- 33:53Speaker 3: you asking you and to your point as well, this
- 33:56Speaker 3: happens within the context of the locker room. So if somebody,
- 33:59Speaker 3: you know, want to bring their family or their kids
- 34:01Speaker 3: or whatever, they need a couple extray, Hey, let me
- 34:03Speaker 3: get those tickets off. And if you're a rookie on
- 34:06Speaker 3: a rookie deal in the NFL and I can get
- 34:09Speaker 3: ten twenty thousand for this, I might want to take
- 34:12Speaker 3: that because I don't know what's going to happen, you know,
- 34:15Speaker 3: next season. And again to that's exactly how it to me.
- 34:21Speaker 3: And like I said, that's why I laughed when I
- 34:23Speaker 3: was thinking, oh yeah, we can talk about that, because
- 34:26Speaker 3: I know how casual it was.
- 34:29Speaker 6: Here's my other question.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Who trusted these guys?
- 34:31Speaker 8: I mean, who went to the league and said, Hey,
- 34:33Speaker 8: this guy charged me, you know more than face value.
- 34:36Speaker 6: I want to report him.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Who would do that? Now I'm going to ask I'm
- 34:39Speaker 4: going to say this, nobody reported them. How long have
- 34:42Speaker 4: they been knowing? And now the value's gone up.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I think probably selling them with higher the pays higher,
- 34:51Speaker 3: you know, the leagues, the money that the players are
- 34:53Speaker 3: making now they you're saying.
- 34:56Speaker 8: The people that bought the tickets from the.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Play buy at a higher number. Yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 3: But and I think what happens to the Facebook told
- 35:03Speaker 3: on them? Because if you're if you're saying, like me,
- 35:06Speaker 3: you know what I mean? If I got the tickets
- 35:08Speaker 3: from you know, Carle, I say, hey, look super Bowl
- 35:11Speaker 3: tickets a bottom from CARLEI not even not even meaning
- 35:13Speaker 3: to like snitch, but you know, I'm on social media.
- 35:16Speaker 3: So I'm sure some of that happened and it just
- 35:18Speaker 3: got out and this is silly. I don't know.
- 35:21Speaker 4: I don't even think.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I don't even think that anybody would say because whoever,
- 35:26Speaker 3: people are definitely going to say social media they tell everything.
- 35:30Speaker 6: Yeah, but here's the story.
- 35:32Speaker 4: I don't Here's what I don't think.
- 35:34Speaker 3: I don't think that there's that I'm going to sell
- 35:37Speaker 3: my tickets to somebody random that I don't know, And so.
- 35:42Speaker 4: You don't think you would know somebody you don't Some
- 35:45Speaker 4: of you don't.
- 35:46Speaker 8: Casually know somebody money in their contract, guaranteed money.
- 35:52Speaker 3: See for me, what I remember, and again it could
- 35:55Speaker 3: be totally different now. But what I remember was my
- 35:58Speaker 3: my tickets are gone before I even walk out the door.
- 36:01Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 36:02Speaker 3: It's happening in the locker room. You know now what
- 36:06Speaker 3: they got there? And the dude who's gonna take those tickets?
- 36:11Speaker 3: I know for a fact that those tickets have some
- 36:12Speaker 3: kind of marking on it to confirm that it's it
- 36:16Speaker 3: was a player's ticket.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Right, I'm gonna assume that. And at no given time
- 36:23Speaker 4: was this an issue.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Right Again, I think the reason it is now is
- 36:30Speaker 3: because I think the money that they're asking for now
- 36:35Speaker 3: is much much higher. What if I sold my tickets
- 36:39Speaker 3: for I think I think you got four tickets, so
- 36:44Speaker 3: each player in the league gets fortunate. I think it
- 36:46Speaker 3: was four tickets, I think. So let's assume I got four.
- 36:49Speaker 8: Okay, that's the whole stadium, and and and and Hollis
- 36:55Speaker 8: is on the team, and Hollis is like, hey, brother,
- 36:57Speaker 8: you're going to the super Bowl.
- 36:59Speaker 4: No I'm not going. Can I buy your tickets? Yeah?
- 37:02Speaker 4: So let's just say I just use a random number.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Let's just say the tickets were seventy five dollars a shot,
- 37:10Speaker 3: or let's just say a hundred.
- 37:11Speaker 4: So you're gonna probably pay me seven or eight hundred.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, and I'm gonna take the seven or
- 37:17Speaker 3: eight hundred, give you the tickets, and bro, we happy,
- 37:19Speaker 3: everybody happy.
- 37:20Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 37:20Speaker 3: I don't think it's like I said, I don't think
- 37:22Speaker 3: it's a big deal, and I don't think the league
- 37:24Speaker 3: think it's a big deal. And I would really like
- 37:26Speaker 3: just as another point, I think when you talk about
- 37:29Speaker 3: Super Bowl, Sporld Series, and I understand everybody wants to go,
- 37:32Speaker 3: but I would really like to see these leagues make
- 37:35Speaker 3: an effort to make these events more family affordable. I
- 37:40Speaker 3: think to have tickets upwards. They said some tickets in
- 37:43Speaker 3: Super Bowl costs ten to fifteen, twenty thousand dollars.
- 37:46Speaker 4: That's ridiculous, man. So I don't consider this a big deal,
- 37:50Speaker 4: and so.
- 37:50Speaker 3: I'm gonna fall into the gambling situation. Okay, you know
- 37:57Speaker 3: you've got teams that are players that are now getting
- 38:00Speaker 3: caught and proven that they are they.
- 38:04Speaker 6: Are the Major League, Baseball.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Baseball, football, any sport.
- 38:11Speaker 8: Really, the most recent incidents that was Major League Baseball, correct,
- 38:15Speaker 8: just this past week.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Yes, Now, when you start to think about, like the
- 38:24Speaker 3: NFL tells you that you can you cannot gamble, you
- 38:26Speaker 3: cannot bet.
- 38:28Speaker 4: How many how many commercials.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Are about betting gambling, But here here you're making money.
- 38:39Speaker 3: You're making money on the gamblers, gambling selling all of these,
- 38:44Speaker 3: all these are your commercials, and you're gonna tell me
- 38:47Speaker 3: I can't go.
- 38:48Speaker 8: Well, it's the same as the alcohol commercials that they
- 38:51Speaker 8: played during games.
- 38:53Speaker 6: That doesn't mean you can go out and get a.
- 38:54Speaker 3: D u I.
- 38:55Speaker 8: I mean, you know that there's rules in place and
- 38:58Speaker 8: the average My problem with all of it is I
- 39:03Speaker 8: think that they need to make sure the rules. There's
- 39:08Speaker 8: obviously a problem with gambling. I mean, I think now
- 39:11Speaker 8: that it's become more commonplace for you know, the average
- 39:15Speaker 8: person to be able to go out and you pick
- 39:17Speaker 8: your phone up and you can gamble. You don't have
- 39:18Speaker 8: to go to the casino. That's the problem. It's it's
- 39:20Speaker 8: too accessible, it's too easy, and it's it's you know,
- 39:24Speaker 8: these players are just sucked in by these you know,
- 39:27Speaker 8: these easy bets. They can get on you know, DraftKings
- 39:30Speaker 8: or whatever, or have their buddy do it.
- 39:32Speaker 3: And if you, if you, if you, here's the thing.
- 39:34Speaker 3: If you catch a guy who is you know he's
- 39:40Speaker 3: helping himself through the gambling situation, you know he you know,
- 39:44Speaker 3: he knows what the spread is, he knows all this,
- 39:46Speaker 3: and he has a way to try to do that,
- 39:50Speaker 3: which I don't think is possible.
- 39:53Speaker 4: I think it's proven that it's it's not impossible.
- 39:58Speaker 3: If everybody on the whole old team has to know
- 40:01Speaker 3: because somebody's trying to play, So somebody's trying to play
- 40:04Speaker 3: to win. Somebody is not trying to get a spread.
- 40:08Speaker 3: So I don't even see how that's even an issue.
- 40:12Speaker 3: So if i'm if i'm if I'm betting on my team,
- 40:17Speaker 3: I'm not saying it's okay, we win, I make money, Okay.
- 40:25Speaker 3: What here's the problem. The problem is that when you
- 40:28Speaker 3: talk about gambling and Talsa's point, let me say this
- 40:30Speaker 3: before you go on. I don't gamble at all. I've
- 40:33Speaker 3: never I went the biggest different even. But the problem
- 40:36Speaker 3: is is not gambling within the context of your generation
- 40:39Speaker 3: is not what it is in this generation, this generation
- 40:42Speaker 3: of young particularly young men, where the athlete non athlete,
- 40:46Speaker 3: they're picking up their phones and they're getting the same
- 40:49Speaker 3: dopamine hit that they would do as though they're using drugs.
- 40:52Speaker 3: And the problem with the state of gambling, to Lisa's
- 40:55Speaker 3: point where or to your point where it's just everywhere,
- 40:59Speaker 3: is that it's become a cultural thing within the context
- 41:03Speaker 3: of young men, particularly in young women. So I don't know,
- 41:07Speaker 3: and I don't have a good answer in that, how
- 41:11Speaker 3: that you police gambling out of sports where you're already
- 41:15Speaker 3: hyper competitive, where you're already you're used to those dopamine
- 41:19Speaker 3: hits at all levels, and now gambling can be added
- 41:23Speaker 3: to that. So I'm not sure when you have the
- 41:26Speaker 3: accessibility of a phone, how you adequately police it out
- 41:30Speaker 3: of it. So I'm not saying that they should be
- 41:32Speaker 3: allotted to do it, but I'm just not sure how
- 41:36Speaker 3: you eradicate it. Don't promote something that you don't want
- 41:39Speaker 3: your players to do one hundred percent.
- 41:41Speaker 4: And that's I can agree.
- 41:43Speaker 8: With your money in that that they're not gonna they're
- 41:45Speaker 8: not gonna do that. I mean, it is embedded in ESPN,
- 41:48Speaker 8: it's embedded.
- 41:48Speaker 4: In sports, and it's embedded in the culture.
- 41:50Speaker 6: It's embedded in the culture.
- 41:51Speaker 4: You're right, but how much money?
- 41:53Speaker 3: Again, the question becomes is is promoting gambling promoting alcohol?
- 41:59Speaker 4: Is that? Do you need that to have to make
- 42:02Speaker 4: the money that you need? Yeah, and you could drop
- 42:05Speaker 4: those probably you could drop those two things. You could
- 42:07Speaker 4: drop those two things. And I think that you could.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Go but to and I agree with you Coach that
- 42:12Speaker 3: you cannot you you cannot say you cannot promote it.
- 42:15Speaker 3: I mean it's ESPN has their own book. ESPN has
- 42:20Speaker 3: their own Gamblely book. So you can't promote it to
- 42:23Speaker 3: that level and then tell people not to do it.
- 42:25Speaker 8: That's kind of and then to your point about alcohol,
- 42:28Speaker 8: here we are we're just ganging up on Carlton have
- 42:31Speaker 8: to go.
- 42:32Speaker 3: I'm in agreement with that. I'm in agreement with He's right.
- 42:35Speaker 3: You can't promote it and then tell people not that
- 42:37Speaker 3: you can do it.
- 42:37Speaker 8: Okay, yeah, okay, But but you said could they get
- 42:40Speaker 8: away completely from the advertising or did I hear that wrong?
- 42:43Speaker 6: Are you saying they.
- 42:44Speaker 4: Should be saying they should dump it?
- 42:46Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.
- 42:47Speaker 8: So what is the Super Bowl commercials without the Budweiser Clydesdale.
- 42:50Speaker 4: So we have or Taco Bell, right, I mean people people.
- 42:57Speaker 6: Talk about that, and that's related to ocohol.
- 43:00Speaker 4: So I get that. I don't. I'm not. I'm not
- 43:04Speaker 4: saying that that's.
- 43:05Speaker 6: That's not going away.
- 43:06Speaker 4: That's what I want. I don't think it's gonna go
- 43:07Speaker 4: away either. They can.
- 43:08Speaker 2: They can.
- 43:09Speaker 3: They can talk about the players all they want, but
- 43:12Speaker 3: you know that they're not gonna because they're not gonna
- 43:14Speaker 3: give up the money. The organizations, the professional organizations in
- 43:19Speaker 3: sports care about them. The players are secondary and every
- 43:26Speaker 3: time that a player, there's an opportunity for players to
- 43:29Speaker 3: to do something. You know, Let's just again, if I'm
- 43:33Speaker 3: gambling and you're thinking I'm making money, how dare me
- 43:36Speaker 3: do that when I'm gonna shoot every other commercial alcohol?
- 43:42Speaker 3: I agree with you on that, man. And if you
- 43:45Speaker 3: have a gambling problem called one gambling, well, I'm gonna
- 43:53Speaker 3: we're gonna have to bring this back up because because
- 43:56Speaker 3: we're gonna have to come back.
- 43:57Speaker 6: I'm myself and my I like it that way.
- 44:00Speaker 3: It's okay, guys, All right, well, ladies and gentlemen, we
- 44:03Speaker 3: will take a quick break and we'll be right back.

- 45:23Speaker 2: real results. Frank walker law dot com. Let that conversation
- 45:27Speaker 2: begin on let's talk all.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Right, ladies and gentlemen, we're back.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Hollis is gonna try to create another issue. Yeah, so
- 45:35Speaker 3: it's gonna be fun It's a little barbershop.
- 45:37Speaker 4: It's gonna be funny.
- 45:38Speaker 3: So there's been a lot, there's been a lot of
- 45:40Speaker 3: discussion about whether Jalen Hurts, super Bowl winning quarterback for
- 45:45Speaker 3: the Philadelphia Eagles, is a top ten quarterback. And I
- 45:50Speaker 3: find the discussion ridiculous, right because he's certainly in today's
- 45:55Speaker 3: this year, you know, moving into this season, he's certainly
- 45:57Speaker 3: a top ten quarterback to me. So I want you
- 46:01Speaker 3: guys opinion. And these are the quarterbacks that kind of
- 46:04Speaker 3: people are considering. Of course, you got Lamar Jackson, you
- 46:06Speaker 3: got Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Jalen Daniels, you got Joe Burrow,
- 46:11Speaker 3: Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Jordan Love.
- 46:16Speaker 3: So within those do we feel like and I would
- 46:19Speaker 3: say Jayalen Hurts is a top three quarterback within those?
- 46:22Speaker 4: So what do you guys think?
- 46:26Speaker 3: I don't know how you don't you know, you got
- 46:30Speaker 3: to look at super bowls. You gotta get there and
- 46:32Speaker 3: you gotta win them.
- 46:33Speaker 6: He's done that, Patrick, I know, but I'm just.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Saying I get that. I'm just saying to me, I'm
- 46:38Speaker 3: a Patrick Mahomes. Well, he's number one. He's off the list,
- 46:41Speaker 3: so we don't need to discuss him. I mean, if
- 46:43Speaker 3: he ain't number one, so he's off the board, I
- 46:46Speaker 3: think we all agree he's number one. Move on, all right,
- 46:50Speaker 3: I'll go. I'll go with Lamar Jackson, like, okay, number two. Yeah,
- 46:55Speaker 3: I got number two?
- 46:56Speaker 6: What you got I would get, I would go. I
- 46:59Speaker 6: don't understand why Jalen's not on the list.
- 47:01Speaker 4: I'm still I don't understand.
- 47:03Speaker 8: I mean, I'm looking at all these qualifications of a
- 47:05Speaker 8: of a goat quarterback and he's not He's not quite
- 47:08Speaker 8: the threshold, but.
- 47:09Speaker 6: He's getting there.
- 47:10Speaker 8: He's getting there, and I don't understand how he could
- 47:13Speaker 8: not be a part of the top ten. I mean,
- 47:16Speaker 8: I'm a I'm a Packer fan, and I'm kind of
- 47:19Speaker 8: amazed at George love is. I'm going to ignore that
- 47:22Speaker 8: statement for coming from a Viking player. I'm amazed that
- 47:27Speaker 8: Jordan Love considering his accomplishments over the years, and I
- 47:31Speaker 8: think if they've been in the league about the same
- 47:33Speaker 8: moment he rank above Jalen.
- 47:36Speaker 3: I mean in some people's list, he does. I mean,
- 47:38Speaker 3: like I said this, and this originated from Cam Newton.
- 47:42Speaker 3: He's on his podcast and he was having a discussion,
- 47:44Speaker 3: and you know, it's that time of season, everybody's sort
- 47:46Speaker 3: of ranking their quarterbacks there.
- 47:48Speaker 4: And yeah, in the jersey's over the button up switch.
- 47:51Speaker 3: I don't know, but he's basically, but basically he said
- 47:54Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts was not in his top ten. And we're
- 47:57Speaker 3: talking about just current quarterbacks. And I'm astounded because when
- 47:59Speaker 3: you look at what we look at, what's a good quarterback? Right,
- 48:03Speaker 3: A good quarterback is going to number one. You gotta win,
- 48:06Speaker 3: and you gotta win super Bowls. He's been to one
- 48:08Speaker 3: super Bowl and and here's the point. In both super
- 48:12Speaker 3: Bowls that he went to, although he's won and one
- 48:14Speaker 3: he out played Patrick Mahome. Yeah both, Yeah, unfortunately he
- 48:19Speaker 3: paid out. He clearly out played him in both games.
- 48:21Speaker 3: And a lot of times what people are doing, they're saying, well,
- 48:24Speaker 3: he has a superior team defense on line, different things
- 48:27Speaker 3: like that.
- 48:27Speaker 4: But you name me somebody who didn't win with the
- 48:30Speaker 4: superior team.
- 48:31Speaker 3: And last point, and a lot of good A lot
- 48:33Speaker 3: of quarterbacks can mess up that team too, you know,
- 48:36Speaker 3: So it's not it's not a given just because you
- 48:37Speaker 3: got a good players around him.
- 48:39Speaker 8: He doesn't come across to me as a diva at
- 48:40Speaker 8: all either, Like I feel like he's a team player.
- 48:42Speaker 8: I mean, look at the push, you know, the guys
- 48:45Speaker 8: is out there to win. I mean he's he's not
- 48:48Speaker 8: all about himself. So to me, that that was a
- 48:50Speaker 8: that was a faux Paul. He should have been in
- 48:53Speaker 8: there somewhere.
- 48:54Speaker 3: I gotta my my only the only question that I have.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Oh maybe it's two h Prescott.
- 49:04Speaker 4: You hate that Prescott with everything? Yes, you do. Don't
- 49:10Speaker 4: you Hatecott? I just I just don't. I don't. I
- 49:14Speaker 4: don't see him.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Don't you get a subjective So I don't really see him.
- 49:20Speaker 3: I see him being a great player. What I don't
- 49:24Speaker 3: see is I don't see him being a great leader.
- 49:27Speaker 4: That's that that.
- 49:28Speaker 8: That's because he can't be a great leader because he's
- 49:31Speaker 8: got Jerry James quarterback.
- 49:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Part of it, that part of it, I'm gonna. I'm
- 49:41Speaker 3: gonna Baker Mayfield.
- 49:43Speaker 4: That's crazy to know. How do you have Baker Mayfield?
- 49:48Speaker 4: I don't understand that.
- 49:49Speaker 3: I don't know who's behind him, that he he's not.
- 49:56Speaker 4: He's not in this list. He's not. And I love
- 49:59Speaker 4: Baker Mayfield, but he's not. He's not. He's not on
- 50:01Speaker 4: that list.
- 50:02Speaker 6: He's not.
- 50:03Speaker 4: He's not.
- 50:04Speaker 3: And I again, I don't know how you And then
- 50:06Speaker 3: so let me ask you.
- 50:07Speaker 6: He's not even a dual threat type.
- 50:10Speaker 3: He can move a little bit. I like berkha mouth can.
- 50:12Speaker 3: He can move, but he's not gonna wave you. Yeah, okay,
- 50:15Speaker 3: if he's gonna throw you some pits. Okay, So here's
- 50:17Speaker 3: what you gotta learn. Okay, I'm getting to teach you.
- 50:19Speaker 3: So go ahead, you can teach me. Try to anyway
- 50:24Speaker 3: in today's game when you have to say okay, but yeah,
- 50:29Speaker 3: but he can kind of do something else, and that's yeah, okay,
- 50:34Speaker 3: but let me let me let me ask you this.
- 50:36Speaker 4: Let me ask you.
- 50:36Speaker 3: This is Joe Burrow. Should he be considered top five?
- 50:40Speaker 3: We could say he's top ten, but because he's missed
- 50:42Speaker 3: the playoff, I think the last two years he put
- 50:44Speaker 3: up amazing stats. But what somebody pointed out was that, yeah,
- 50:48Speaker 3: those stats were good because a lot of time was
- 50:50Speaker 3: spent coming back. So you have to pass in order
- 50:52Speaker 3: to try to catch up. So is he and he
- 50:55Speaker 3: he made the Super Bowl one year, So is he
- 50:57Speaker 3: on this list?
- 50:58Speaker 4: Again? My question, my question will go in a different.
- 51:03Speaker 3: See that's what he does. He take a question and yeah,
- 51:05Speaker 3: he asked his own question. You should be a politician.
- 51:10Speaker 3: I want to I want to figure out again, I'm
- 51:13Speaker 3: looking at when I'm thinking quarterback, I'm the guy sitting
- 51:16Speaker 3: on the sideline because I'm on defense now, so and
- 51:18Speaker 3: I'm watching my quarterback.
- 51:20Speaker 4: He's got to be the leader, Like, he's got to
- 51:22Speaker 4: be a.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Dude who is like yelling and screaming and telling dudes
- 51:26Speaker 3: what to do and they gonna do it.
- 51:28Speaker 4: I don't like.
- 51:29Speaker 6: You don't see Joe Burrow doing that.
- 51:32Speaker 4: I don't know. I like, I like like, I like him.
- 51:38Speaker 3: I don't have anything against him. I just think he
- 51:40Speaker 3: plays that list. I'm looking at a list of guys
- 51:43Speaker 3: who I think are super talented, great quarterbacks, dual threats.
- 51:50Speaker 3: But I don't know, I don't know if is there
- 51:53Speaker 3: anybody really like on this list. When I'm going back
- 51:55Speaker 3: to Patrick Mahomes, who I think is a true straight
- 51:58Speaker 3: up leader. But I think you got leaders on here.
- 52:01Speaker 3: But I don't think you can mistake leadership for talent.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I think Patrick Mahomes is a once in a generation talent.
- 52:09Speaker 4: He's give that.
- 52:10Speaker 3: Talent wise, he's the best quarterback I've ever seen. Talent wise,
- 52:14Speaker 3: I think the thing that hurts or separates like a
- 52:16Speaker 3: Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts is Unfortunately Joe Burrow plays
- 52:20Speaker 3: for a terrible franchise who makes terrible decisions consistently, where
- 52:25Speaker 3: the Philadelphia Eagles they are a much better rand fanchise.
- 52:28Speaker 3: So that's why talent wise, I was still having more there.
- 52:32Speaker 3: But I don't think I think he's and this is
- 52:34Speaker 3: just my prediction. I think eventually he'll have to get
- 52:36Speaker 3: traded in order to really go to the next level
- 52:39Speaker 3: because Cincinnati Bingles are terrible franchise. To that conversation you
- 52:44Speaker 3: just had, like I'm going to go Somebody's not on
- 52:47Speaker 3: the list and somebody who I played with, Tommy crameer. Okay,
- 52:51Speaker 3: Tommy Kramer had a major drinking issue and all of those.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Kind of things.
- 52:58Speaker 3: His skill set was it necessarily great throws, he was,
- 53:03Speaker 3: he was a he was a good guy to he can.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Move around enough. But Brian a leader.
- 53:13Speaker 3: When you start talking about and see, and I think
- 53:16Speaker 3: when I think about quarterback, I'm thinking about like I
- 53:19Speaker 3: think the first thing.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Comes to my mind is Tommy Kramer, because you ain't.
- 53:24Speaker 3: You ain't getting away with anything like he'll come cuss
- 53:26Speaker 3: you out face to face and you ain't and you
- 53:29Speaker 3: ain't throwing no blows, like you ain't gonna.
- 53:31Speaker 4: Be like you ain't talking to me that way. Yes
- 53:34Speaker 4: he is. I think it's different leaders though. I think
- 53:36Speaker 4: that's just a leadership style.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Well and but but again when I look at that,
- 53:43Speaker 3: and I say, Okay, that leadership style has a has
- 53:46Speaker 3: a has a place can put you over just skill set.
- 53:50Speaker 3: You know, skill set is great.
- 53:53Speaker 6: I think you have both.
- 53:54Speaker 8: I mean you have to have skill set and leadership skills.
- 53:56Speaker 8: I mean otherwise you're not going to be one of
- 53:58Speaker 8: the great ones because I think Eli man.
- 54:00Speaker 3: Right right, Yeah, And you're looking at some of these
- 54:03Speaker 3: guys who didn't have the athletic ability to run the ball,
- 54:07Speaker 3: so they're not really quote a dual threat. But what
- 54:09Speaker 3: they brought in the pocket, how they handled themselves, how
- 54:13Speaker 3: they handled their team, that's the key.
- 54:15Speaker 4: How does that quarterback handle that his teams. That's a
- 54:18Speaker 4: good point.
- 54:18Speaker 6: That's a good point.
- 54:19Speaker 8: Let me ask you this then, if these are all
- 54:20Speaker 8: these are all active quarterbacks in them. Okay, So so
- 54:24Speaker 8: where's Aaron Rodgers?
- 54:27Speaker 4: Stop? All right, that's a good show. Thank you for listening.
- 54:32Speaker 3: And Lord, but before we go, give me give me
- 54:42Speaker 3: your top five, top five, top five my Homes Jackson,
- 54:52Speaker 3: uh Burrol, Okay, Hurts, I think that's five.
- 55:03Speaker 4: Okay, what you got.
- 55:04Speaker 8: Oh, let's see, I'm gonna have to Jalen Hurts. I'm
- 55:08Speaker 8: gonna put it. He's already on here. Okay, Jalen Hurts
- 55:10Speaker 8: is one. Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes of course, Lamar Jackson
- 55:15Speaker 8: for sure, and Josh Allen.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Okay, I would go, of course, Patrick Mahomes, I'm going, uh,
- 55:21Speaker 3: Jayalen Hurts, I'm going to Lamar Jackson, I would go
- 55:25Speaker 3: Josh Allen, and I would go Jayden Daniels.
- 55:29Speaker 4: You see, you can also throw C. J.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Stroud on there. I mean, it's some arguments for that. Yeah.
- 55:35Speaker 3: All right, Well that was a good fight.
- 55:39Speaker 4: The ring.
- 55:41Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we hope you enjoyed the show,
- 55:43Speaker 3: and we will be back next week.
