Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to another edition of the 9 out of always podcasts.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: As far as the fancited podcast network, my name is Robin Morrison, a contributor at 9 out of always.com.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: And here with me, fellow contributor, Mr. Aksha's Dividuola, who as of yet has not been traded.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: So congratulations, Aksha's on surviving another trade deadline.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: How are you doing, man?
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Robert.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to think it's because I'm like a key contributor here and therefore they couldn't afford to lose my production.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: It may just be that nine or no is much like the niners are not really looking to trade this year.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, happy to stick around for another year, but I'm going to I always get a little nervous about trade then, because you know, that's right, uh, there'll be a traded for for a player to be named later, cash considerations or something like this is the MLB, um, thankfully, we don't have the worry about that.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, uh, it is, uh, we're recording on Tuesday night after the 49ers.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: We're on Sunday, 34 or 24 over the New York Giants.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about that a lot in just a little bit, but because it is Tuesday, that is the trade deadline passed at 4 o'clock this afternoon, Eastern Time, which means that no more trades will happen for the NFL season.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: This is always a weird one, right?
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Because like, there's always the talk about like how the NFL trade deadline is generally,
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: not terribly exciting like very different from like major league baseball where there's very clear delineations of like teams that are good and teams that are not good and there's just like if a baseball went without trades at the trade deadline like people lose their minds and if they'll just sort of like that's kind of how it goes normally.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: today was not like that.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: This is definitely the busiest trade deadline that I can remember.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: The New York Jets pretty much is willing to give up anybody that that anyone was willing to get to take on.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: The Dallas Cowboys for some reason, like adding in spite being like the third best team in their division.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: Very strange stuff on the whole.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: just in general, like, very, very odd trade deadline, I'd say.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the name is that moved or stunning.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's really rare in the NFL, right?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: And we should know that's in large print because of the way contracts are set up into NFL, right?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like you're just not incentivized to trade players very much in the NFL because the way when you sign into the contract it's like all the guaranteed money kind of sticks with you and you have these huge cap hits and it's not like other sports where you move the player in that contract just goes with them and you're totally fine.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: which makes it even more surprising that like players that moved, I mean, Saskarner monster extension this year, right?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just the soft season, right?
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, right?
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: So much guaranteed money on that deal.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: That is, that's hit the jets like cap.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: Quentin Williams, monster deal.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think a couple years ago, same sort of like, those are,
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: Those are really, really rare period.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Just in general, those traits don't happen in the NFL and to happen on deadline day is like absurd.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Genuinely, truly, genuinely absurd.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: But it's fun, I think it's cool.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you're a cult fan, that must be pretty exciting to see your team going for it.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a Cowboys fan, sorry, but not really.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Trades are cool and just in general, like teams got better.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of teams got better.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, some teams may have been manners and want to see get better, got better.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's just freaking just fun.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: I like I think like trades are good for the NFL.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're interesting.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a shame that the way the contracts are set up.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: They don't really happen.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think rentals into NFL are particularly like underutilized.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: That that seems to be a really, really like this seems to be the sport where like
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, past rushers on an expiring deer, cough, cough, um.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's maddie.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: She seems like the perfect way to sort of cash in because I don't know.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think trade handwritten is going to be wearing orange and white next year's.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: No, no.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, I think as soon as as soon as that, when as soon as they like that, that has to it like if you look at everything and it's just like,
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: the the major miss of this whole thing is is the bagels not offloading tray in Nixon like they they already had to basically like beg him to come back this year right so it's pretty clear he doesn't want to be here anymore like that's I mean there are that he's at least frustrated with his team like I think he's an Ohio kid right so he's he probably doesn't want to leave home but at the same time he's to clearly
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what did the dolphins get for as Jalen Phillips send them to the Eagles for a third round pick it's like
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: like they were and they wanted a first for a for a guy who's on an expiring contract and it's 31 years old it's just like you probably should have just taken the second and run away smiling right right like I don't know like it just seems crazy to me like the things some of some of the deals that didn't get done were just as just as crazy as some of the ones that did but yeah the jets just kind of like offloading players so Quinn and Williams contract was
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: signed.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's two years into a four-year deal that he signed in 2023.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: So the jets will have, this is according to over the caps, a story that they posted this afternoon.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: The jets are going to pay $13.2 million in dead money this year in 9.8 and 2026.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's not really horrible.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's the sauce gardener one that's really weird because he just signed the contract in July.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: So that's really complicated.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of wonder why, I mean, I guess they couldn't have known that the season wasn't going to go this badly and they were going to unload him.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's really not looking terrible like the dead money situation is not terrible.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: I guess because it's a new contract, the cults are going to inherit a lot more of that than the jets.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have to worry about OathCaps as it's 8.75 million this year and 11 million next year.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Because he hadn't even gotten to the new contract yet, so that's the reason they were able to move him.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Because if he had, they would have been like 100 dead money with all of it.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's like his third year in the league, right?
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: So they, like they, or those might be your four, they extended him really early.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: So it'll be really, really interesting to see how that goes.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: With, with the, with the cults obviously being all in, they lost yesterday, but, or on Sunday, but.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: They're still seven and two and looking pretty good.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: So, I don't know, very strange in and overall perspective.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: But then we get into the 49ers and, um, well, they didn't do anything.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, which in light of some news that we'll talk about just a second, I guess the question is, are we surprised that that's the way that they went?
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: I, so I'm not in furthermore, I think it was the right call, we'll talk about that news.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a lot of different perspectives on where the Niners sit this year.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: I like, I fully reach the, this season is like a waste, it's kind of a wash, right?
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: Do I think they'll make the playoffs, maybe?
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: I am not so sure that they won't make the playoffs, I think they're like, they're in
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: So, that'll sort of have to pop up as when it happens, Seattle and LA both look really good, so we'll see how the division games go as they progress further down the stretch.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: But like the injuries have just not even getting to the ones we'll talk about upcoming.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's just not enough elite talent on this team right now.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: for them to really seriously make a push.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: And if that's true, right, then I think the team is justified in sort of like not pushing its chips in.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think the white trade is the type of trade they should have done, you know?
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: move like 20 spots or 30 spots down and like the final round of the draft to like get like a body who you think can be like productive, you know, sign a personnel like land and feral who had a sack against the giants right and was like pretty pretty good coming back to San Francisco like there.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: We mentioned this one Fred Warner got her.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: You can't replace some of the guys that like they're losing.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: You just can't.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they've lost enough people to wear the amount it would cost for them to even get reasonably close.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: And like, there's no replacing Fred Warner with anyone they could trade for.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's no replacing Nick Bosa with anyone they could trade for.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: That is a foolish endeavor because even with all that, I don't know if you feel confident like this is the best team of NFL, we don't feel like we have a shot, but I don't think you're in the upper echelon, if you're not in the upper echelon, but you could be next year right if people would come back, hopefully I think it's smart to buy your time.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly, um, the only, I think the only, the only
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: deal that you could have seen them swinging would have been someone who was going to be another version of like the Keon White thing, maybe a slightly higher level there.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's why they were conversations reportedly around Germaine Johnson from the Jets who is still still a year and a half left on his rookie deal.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: He was a guy that Robert Salad drafted and it seemed to like a lot.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think in the end it seemed like the price was too high.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that it was like a second round pick that they wanted for him, which for a guy who's been good, but hasn't really been spectacular in his three and a half years.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, or two and a half years are in the NFL is probably a little rich, and I think in the end you're just like, okay.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, then you look at the situation like you're saying like, is this is playoff team maybe on the fringes, right?
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is a team that could probably, I mean, they already have as many wins as they had last season.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a pretty good likelihood with.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: The schedule that they have left and all that kind of stuff, they're going to get to 10 or 11 wins just on the basis of the fact that they're probably going to be better than most of the teams they play for the rest for the rest of the season, right?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a pretty good chance they're going to like sneak into the wild card rounds now.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Are they going to win a playoff game?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows?
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: Defend depends on the matchup.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: Are they going to go very far in the playoffs?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, probably not.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: Um, are they a true real Super Bowl contender?
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the front office knows that.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: And like you were saying, I think they realize that the best case scenario
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: is next year.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like Fred Warner will be healthy, Nick Vosa will eventually be healthy in some time into the season.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the only unfortunate, the main unfortunate piece is that of course, and we're bearing this a little bit, is that Michael Williams, who tore his ACL and that darn stupid turf at Matt Life Stadium, um,
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: with like four minutes left to play in the game in a game there or winning by 17 points at that point Very frustrating.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it's he's down.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: He tours ACL.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: He basically this is Right the same week or maybe a week later than Brandon I have did his last year is that does that's on right?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was around this point.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: The question of course being, but yeah, the how much it's clean tear.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because I looked at like everything inside of his knee was just destroyed.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's part of the reason that it's taking so long.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: If it's a clean tear, then obviously that will help because the surgery can.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: happened soon and that means he can get started on the rehab sooner and all that kind of stuff because that was the the upside with those are right is that it was a clean tear They were able to get in there.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's already had the operation.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's already on his way to to rehabbing and that might help them get out there Maybe not probably not in time for training camp, but maybe in time for early season.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Williams is I don't know if he's a if he's on a 10 month timeline
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: That would basically put him, you know, like a month into the season or something like that.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: But that would be an aggressive time line, I think.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a real bummer for him, because he's he's he's been playing well as rookie It's been him in spectacular, but I think it's exactly what the forehand is expected with a drafted him.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that you're going to miss out on him for the rest of the this year, but also the fact that
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: he's missing out on the rest of this development.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna miss about, like they always talked about the importance so that the summer between year one and year two because your one is so like draft focus and they finally get to be like a full pro like in the off season and he's gonna miss out on that cause he's gonna be rehabbing so sucks.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Mostly cause it was like a meaningless part of the game.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: And gosh, you know what the funny thing was?
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oxtices that like moments before it happened.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if you had the same thought, but I had the thought like, are they going to get out of this without any major situation, any major injuries?
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then like minutes later, there he is, and I'm like, well, guess not.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: The worst part, I agree with everything you said.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's really, really unfortunate.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: From my call, hopefully he recovers.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, gets back to it as soon as he can and everything goes smoothly is his torn ACL came on a really good play by him too.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like I did not have your same life here because I was hopeful, which was a failure on my part and I deeply regret it.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I was hopeful.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, hooray, they're going to make it and then they didn't it.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Just almost so close.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: And it's brutal.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: That looked the injuries suck for this year, but my call is real for all the reasons you mentioned, right?
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: It really hurts because of what it means for his growth.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: That like, that is I think the real loss here from the 49ers.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was like,
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: they're like most played defensive line.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: And basically at this point, which is crazy, not at all what they wanted out of him when they drafted him, but the whole system fell apart, whatever, like neither you're in or there.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: But like, he like, you could sort of see the improvement a little bit over time, you could see that like, he needed the perhaps he needed the practice, but like he had the skills and it's just,
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, hopefully, everything coming back clean, he's able to get back as soon as he can, but it's a real tragedy, I think, in many, like, that every injury so far has been a huge damper, but this one I think is the like icing on the cake of the season just sucks.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely, it almost, I mean, I know we've said this a couple of times, but this feels like the straw or the nail, the final nail and the coffin right for this season as far as like, I mean, I already said it.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know the fifth team was.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: really a top contender even fully healthy.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's not fair.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I think if you brought the whole team back.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you said Brock Cody's healthy, Brandon, I like selfie, Ricky Pierce, all's healthy.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: Fred Warner's back, like if that whole team is here, I think I think it's potentially
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: on the edges of Super Bowl contention team, but I think they for sure be in contention to win the NFC.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I don't think there any like they wouldn't be any so much worse than whatever names you could learn than the Rams of the the Rams of the Eels are or the C-Hawks is right.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would I would I would take I could take the Niners of any of those teams.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: But that they haven't been that team all season.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: And we kept talking about like, here they come here.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: They come, but the problem was that every time somebody came in, it was like a blood sacrifice type of situation like, well, you can have that guy back, but we're going to take this guy.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, stop it.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like worse because it's like, well, George Gales out for five weeks and Brock parties out for for five weeks and Ricky Pierce is out for five weeks.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'll you want George Gales back?
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Nick Boses got for the season.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: Wait a minute, hold on.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: This is not stop it like that's what it's felt like and it's just like the worst.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you've seen the sort of the names that have been percolating on the internet about how
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: These are all the sacrifices being made for the Christian McAfee to stay healthy.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: And like.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's rough and you know.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: It really becomes a question of, are they targeting injury prone players or are they just unlucky?
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Or do they have structural flaw in the way they approach it?
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know anymore.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this, it's too many too often to just say, this is like circumstance.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: But they're all kind of freak injuries.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's all different random stuff.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like, if it were all soft tissue issues, like the, like 2020, when it was like high ankle sprain heaven,
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: You're kind of like, all right, well, let's go on here.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we're, we're not stretching out the ankles before the game, like that kind of thing, but this is just like, it's an ACL.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's a dislocated, I mean, these are just, they're, they're not, they don't feel the same to me enough to be like, it's a structural problem, but I don't know.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a doctor.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, it's hard, it's just hard to tell.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: for sure.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of Christian McAfrey, he had an all-specious event happen during the game last on Sunday.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: So he scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving touchdown.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: That was his 16th such game in the NFL.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: He is now the player who has done that most in NFL history.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: He surpasses Hall of Fame running back Marshall Falk for the most to do that all time.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's pretty incredible.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like Marshall Faulk was like a pioneer in his own way of in the NFL and so the fact that McAfries in that conversation is pretty spectacular.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: So really cool.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: And hey, we keep scoring Russian touchdowns, I don't know if you've noticed.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: This court two on Sunday, which is crazy, right?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: Running games back, Ish, kind of, little bit.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, more than that in a moment.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we could talk about to Hall of Fame credentials for a lot of players on this team, but, you know, I think there's certainly a case to me that Christian McAfrey is doing a lot of the things that are going to have him in a conversation for that, you know, when the time comes, still in pace for a thousand thousand yards for a thousand thousand season.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Is it as it at the expense of everybody else?
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure, probably not.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that that's how it works, but it is sort of comical the way it seems to be working out for him so nicely, and yet everybody else is kind of like dropping like flies around him.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: So really cool, it was a good performance from the 49ers, I think, on the whole.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: I would venture to say them both.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: They're most complete game of the season.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: Is that too far?
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: with disagree.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the defense was mediocre.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the only.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: It was a better game.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, offensively, if I was their best game of the season, probably.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: The bar is low.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: But that offensively did everything they needed to defensively.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like,
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Are we are we grading them on a curve like how many points I almost have to promise I at this point right well we'll talk about some players I think are like stepping up really well others are yeah are playing as you'd expect them to but I think you know we we both you really mentioned this right like when we were previewing this game against the giants the question really was
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Are they still the type of team that can take care of business against a type of team like the giants and if the answer is yes that you know they're like
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: still in contention to get into the playoffs and be the kind of team that can bank those wins.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: If it's no, then it's like, all right, it's time to start like recontextualizing this team because the injuries have just got too far.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like they definitively proved they are the type of team that can beat a team like the giants, which is great, right?
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: their schedule consists of playing teams like the giants.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's the last place schedule.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: True.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I think because of that, they have this sort of like, you keep this sort of hope that they'll be able to survive their upcoming, like the schedule is still somewhat favorable to them.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: But if they last escaped, then it'd be like, yeah, this dude knows because who knows how good they are and if they can play up to that level.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, I think that's that's a look at you.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: You're just, you're just segueing for for me today.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I like it.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have to do all the work.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I'm scanning.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, so let's go ahead and move into our one up one down section, which is brought to you by our friends at underdog fantasy once again.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: Football season is in full swing, and underdog is the best place to get in on all the action.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: Playing on underdog is easy, just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like rushing yards, receptions, touchdowns, and more.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: Get your picks right, and you could win up to 5,000 times your cash.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll go and send it over to Oksha's to tell us about his experience using the underdog fantasy app.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wish I had one up to 5,000 times my cash.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: That would be...
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: Don't be a great day.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, I have not had such an amazing experience, but I'm the dog makes it really easy to sort of get yourself in that position.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I, like I mentioned a time and again, I really enjoy using underdog.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: You open up the app and games you want to right there.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: The stats you're interested in are right there.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's really easy to make your picks put them together, put your money in and win big.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I think one thing that I really
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: Underdog is their flex insurance essentially so you can have like a set of eight players with higher and lower on their stat lines But let's say you're not sure all eight are gonna like pan now you can do you can flex so you can have seven seven pan out You'll still make some money.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: That is actually the only way I've made money on underdog.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not very good at this unfortunately if I was I don't know if I'd be doing the podcast, but let's So I
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a lot of fun.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: I like using underdog because it helps me kind of get into the games when I'm a little bored or I'm not really sure what's going on or I don't really care as little extra incentive and I like for me that's like that's far and away worth it.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: So you can download the app today and sign up for promo code noise to score $100 in bonus entries when you play your first $5.

- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take a breath and go ahead and when you're ready, tell us about who you're up was for the winner of the Giants.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: There's a really big one.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to mention him.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give that to you, Robert.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: You can sort of discuss what I think is like far in a way, like clear like bright spot from this game.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to mention a player who I, so I'm going to like that myself on the back.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: I've written these articles that about unsung heroes from the draft for a few years, a couple of years now.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: One of them was Elijah Mitchell, it was right that year, and one of them was Tate and Bethoon.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm not gonna go so far and just say that I thought Theta and Bethoon was gonna be as good as he's played.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't think that's partially my place.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a psychic, I'm not a fortune teller.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought like he had the capacity to provide a lot of benefits for this team, but his play at Middle Line Backer has been exceptional.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's not Fred Warner level, because no one can be Fred Warner level.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that position is one that I was really concerned about and he's patched up nicely.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the coverage is really key.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: He had like a silly kind of, but absolutely should not have like the worst thing.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like I don't even know if he hit like Jackson dart in the header neck area, but I digress, I digress, like,
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: I will stop complaining about it, but just like like
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I I'm actually like shocked by this.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even expect know that this was the number 16 tackles run.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's nuts 16 tackles and these aren't like cheapo like oh like allow a seven-year-old slant or whatever because you were batting coverage tackle These are like getting after the ball tackles like he like
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's played really, really well.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's difficult because he's playing really, really well at middle linebacker, but he's obviously like not going to be the middle linebacker next year, so sort of begs the question, can he like, can what he's doing translate over to the weekside linebacker position?
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: Because if it can, then you got to, you got a little bit of a
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we didn't even mention Nick Martin who's still who's riding pie and because these linebackers are just playing so well, I think that The tune has been such a bright spot and it was a really really good game from him even though like the penalty useless terrible call.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see him get like a splash play.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like he has it in him.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: that this defense needs in.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: And we mentioned, there are players who've been playing really well, there are players who have not been like, who've been playing at the level we would have expected from them before the season, which is not good enough because they're starting now.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the two and has stepped up in a way that no one could have predicted.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: If anyone tells you they could have seen this coming, I don't believe them.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't believe them.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're lying to you.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: or they're genius and they should not be like doing what they're doing.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever they're doing, they should be an NFL scout.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: If someone can tell me that they predicted, take them to the tune, having this type of impact.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: Why are you not working in an airport for an office?
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, that's incredible.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: I have a question.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a sucker for middle line backers as we all know as I've told everyone on this podcast many, many, many times.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that like he's keeping up the excellence.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, he was really good.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the best part is that it was a
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: But like last week was real rough for him and really the whole defense, not just him, like a, you know, and it was, it was important, I think, for the defense as a, as a whole, but also for the theme to bounce back from that and show that.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: this performance and the Falcons performance was more the norm.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's still a small sample size, obviously, that we're dealing with, but it seems to be indicating that this is the type, I mean, maybe not 16 tackles, but like the useful player, like a good player that could be the guy who's lining up next to Fred Warner next year when he comes back, kind of guy is, and maybe it's a different skill set and maybe we'll see, I mean, it'll be really interesting to see all of that plays out.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know, it's, it, but, you know, good as damn for this, for the game for sure.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: I would also, before I move on, I just wanted to, because I'm gonna talk about the offensive side of the ball, but I do want to mention a defensive player, just Clue and Farrell for, like, absolutely, like, removing the soul of Jack's dark.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: How dark how long?
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's, like, absolutely no way you could have known it was coming, right?
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: Unless somebody like screamed at him in the last minute.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: because there was no indication that he knew.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, wow, he was being crunct.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely destroyed.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I've ever seen in the amount that he had to run to make that sack.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the back of the window.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: I love Clown.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, nine or two defensive and two teeth.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like, how's the guy?
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: You get to the big money goes to these other teams, but like if he's ever signing on minimums, I don't know why the 49ers would not just he should be the next dot to Johnson.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he just comes to skip to stay in here for sure.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so my my up to two to two pieces here.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, Mac Jones.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of a weird game from him, right?
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: So the first half was like bizarrely good.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: So Oxos did you know that he did not throw an incomplete pass in the first half?
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know it was the first half.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the whole first half, 14 of 14.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: I am trying to, I wrote about this earlier today.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: This is why I have it in my brain.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: He was 14 of 14 for 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, and 43 yards and two touchdowns at half time.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: The nineners were up, 17 to seven.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: Now, unfortunately, you kind of have to, you look at that and you're like, okay, you completed 14 passes on 14 attempts.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: great.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: Part of it was Game State, right?
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: They only threw the ball 10 times in the second half as opposed to 14.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: So he was five out of ten in the second half for a hold on quick math, and my head, this is not great.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: He was at 143, you know, like 90 yards in the second half, that's not too bad.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, 5 to 10 for 90 yards in the second half.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, no touchdowns,
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: significantly less impressive on that front.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: So we finish this 19 to 24, 235 yards, which is a, by the way, 9.8 yards per attempt, or per completion, two touchdowns, no interceptions, he was sack twice, a quarterback rating of 135.2, that's not too shabby.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think he said, you know, more like more statistically interesting games, but I thought in some ways this was as impressive as he's been for the 49ers, especially given how poorly last week went.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that we, you know, we talked about this Giants pass Russian.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: There were certainly some times when it created problems, but you know, we're talking about this while the game was going on like the quick passing game was on and that was you know, that's part of that's part of the reason you can be 14 to 14 because you're throwing a lot of short passes and then putting the ball in the hands of guys and letting them do work, which is
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: good and that worked out and it was a good game plan and I'm glad that we thought of it and I'm glad that Kyle Shenan listened to us.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: So thanks Kyle.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was good and then on top of that the running game is we alluded to seem to be back.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's not.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like a, like a, a greatly effective performance or efficient performance.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: They did bulk run the ball 39 times for 159 yards.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: Um, now, I should say, Adrian Martinez got a negative one on his kneel down at the end on one attempt.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then George Kittles.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: like they need to throw that play out every time they run it.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: They've run it since George Kittlesman, the NFL, I don't think it's worked.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: So outside of that, what they ran the ball 30, seven times for 163 yards, which is a little bit better, two touchdowns.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: It was better.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was as
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: like as efficient as the Atlanta game for example, but the one thing I want to do on a highlight is we talked about like they haven't really be able to break off longer runs and they had they did have longer runs so McAfrey's long in the day was 16, Brian Robinson was 18,
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: That was McAfrey's longest run in the season.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: I believe it's close.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: It ties Bryan Robinson's but they also had a run of 12, 16, 9, and then two of 10, two for 10 in the in the game as well.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like as explosive as you want it to be, but it certainly was showing signs of better things.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like the running game in general, just looking better and yeah.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, part of it is, as we talked about, the giant's rushing defense is not good, but that means you have to take advantage of those opportunities when they come and they did.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: I thought I don't know about you.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: Robert, Brian Robinson's run the watch for I mean.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that like, that truck.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: I love, I love those plays in football.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: All right, why I love Demos and so much is just there's something so like satisfying about shrugging off a defender like that.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, I agree totally with you at that Mac played.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well enough given the circumstances.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: And what maybe his last snap, because I'm putting that under this year, hopefully we'll see who knows.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, fingers crossed probably, but who knows?
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought if he didn't look the offense required, he kept him in a comfortable position, didn't really think there are any misses his way, per se, more so.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: Just like, he was efficient, and then the running game is interesting, right?
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: I thought I looked a lot better than I think the stats barrel.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: But like,
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think, and you might, please disagree with me on this, uh, I think I would much rather have a stat line like this, where the arts precarity average might look a little ugly, but there's explosive runs in there.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think chunk plays are really light.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: How you get it.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, in the ideal world, you want it to be built, right?
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: You want to be average in five
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: 30 yard runs or whatever.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I would much rather have it have the have push and a character sort of have a stat line like this with like explosives mixed in with sort of like not so good runs that him just averaging 3.8 yards per carry because I think explosive runs stress the defense in ways that like four yards of carry don't they're both
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: I would much, I would much rather have these like chunk plays occur because I think off that, you know, your play action works a little better, your like passing plays work a little better.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it opens up the offense more.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: I also think it was a good first step.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's more to be done, more will be done, but it was encouraging to save a least.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I mean, I'd much rather that the whole team has Brown Robinson's stat line.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: All 100%.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: 5% for 53, just 10.6 yards per carry.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: That feels unrealistic.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, absolutely.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like I said it was inefficient.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's still four yards per carry, which if my math is correct, means that you're going to gain a first down,
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: every three, three downs, which is good, like it's not great, like you, again, you, I think your, your point is correct, like you need those, those chunk plays, those 10 plus yard rushes, which they had, what did I say, six or six or seven of them on this day, because that balance, because you're inevitably going to have some negative plays and some short sort short gains, and I mean around the ball 28 times in the N106 yard, so that would
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: with a long of 16, so, yeah, there's gonna be those, I think you're right, I think if he ran for 3.8 yards per carry, and I mean, because he certainly had games that fewer yards and he's run for 3.8 yards per carry,
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: that's not great.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: So this is this is good.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'd still like to see more like the explosion is still not there.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, their longest play of the game was 39 yards, which was that Christian McAfrey reception that he had where.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if the giants defense a plan was to leave Christian McCaffrey standing by himself, that's bold, it's a bold move cotton.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see if it works out for him, did not.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not ideal.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, other than that, it was 21 yards and that was Skymore's reception and Kendrick Born-An-1 for 21.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Watkins, one catch was 19 yards, and then the 18 yard run by Robinson and the 16 yards from McCaffrey.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: you'd like to see more of that, yes, is what I'm trying to say and hopefully, because I mean, that's what this has been predicated on, right?
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: Is this calcium and offense is predicated on?
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: running the ball and then, you know, being able to get explosives on seemingly, on plays that seem rather and Oculus most of the time and just wearing defenses out and hopefully we'll see more of that as the season goes on.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think that's how this team is going to continue to win games as the defense continues to take hits, like the offense is going to have to score like this more repeatedly in order for them to win games, I think.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: that segues nicely into my- Look at this sound.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: We've been doing this.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: So far, oh yeah, like clockwork.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so I'm not gonna talk about the offense, per se.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna talk about this for the defense, but it's a general point, that like, they play fine.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the, like, so we mentioned like all the things about the giants and the defense is talented.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: Offence would Jackson Dark can like get, get big plays, but like frankly,
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're a better team, even with the interest, they're a better team and like this is a disappointing sort of like overarching performance in light of that.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: It might seem like I'm trying to find something in a little bit.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_01]: I am right, like.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: They did everything fine, they weren't terrible at anything, they were fine and everything, but.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think you'd want to see more.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: You'd want to see the running game being a little more consistent the passing game being a little more explosive the defensive blank getting a little more pressure the secondary getting maybe making some big plays.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: That like what the exception of the standouts we mentioned everyone was like okay to like good ish and that works against the giants is the giants are not okay to good ish they're a pretty like not great team.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think there are more concerns when you go and you play the Rams or you play Seattle, right?
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: When you play Gosh, like the Colts, I guess, or like, I know, right?
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like you play teams that are playing better.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: You have to step up.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think they stepped up very much.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was fine.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: They were fine.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: It was a fine game that got them a win, but I think we need to see more than fine from then going forward.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I'm so convinced from this game that like, okay, they can like handle the rest of their schedule.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was sort of what we were looking at this game for, and it's not clear.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: But obviously, saying all this, it's good that they won, you only play the team in front of you.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really going to complain about that.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that like they could have we could have it could have been cool to see it.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: See a little more of the roof from this team.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if we saw that in for percent.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's fair.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of my line of thinking too.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: It was just like that first drive obviously was very, very concerning, um, because you're, I don't know, but you've it sort of that like, oh no, like, are they doing this again?
- 43:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, I think the Texans often says,
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: more talented as currently constructed than the Giants offense, but still you're like, oh gosh, this is a pretty mediocre team that's going to, are they going to run, run us over again, and that turned out not to be the case really, because outside of that, one that touched down drive to open the game, they had the one, they've punted them all, I think four times in a row, they had the misfielgo at the end of the half.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, it's not great that they gave up those two touchdowns late.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_00]: They're technically garbage time.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, it really just kind of made the score look a little more respectable from a Giants perspective.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, instead of losing by 10 by 17, they lost by 10, like, okay, um, you'd like to see the defense tighten up a little bit better, but also, uh, we saw the repercussions of what happens when you push things a little too hard at the end of the game when the game's all done and dusted.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not great either.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so I don't know what the answer is to that.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: There's obviously not enough players on an NFL roster to be like, okay, well, all the starters are out, and we're just going to run the backups, like you can't do that.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: There's not enough players on the active on the on the game, they're roster to to make that work.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, it certainly is.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it is what is at this point, right?
- 45:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is the defense as it as it exists, like the trade deadline has passed.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: The players that are heard are not coming back this year.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably going to be bumpy.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like when they go play the Rams next week and we'll talk about this later, there's probably going to have some trouble with that Rams team, because just frankly, that offense is better than the defenses right now, as currently constructed.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the cults are probably going to give them trouble as well because they've got some weapons on that team.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, now they got soft gardener and that defense is going to be more difficult and that's going to be a tough game.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you look at, you look at the rest of the schedule and you're like, well, there's some benefits to being to playing the last play schedule they get to play.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: But also, you know, I'm not sure that looking ahead that the last place schedule is working out as well as they might have liked, like the cults where the cults are not a benefit of the last place schedule, they're playing the entire NFC South or AFC South.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: But like the bears are a better team than I think we anticipated, they were last place in their division.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: Giants were another one trying to think who else they're playing that would be specifically from the because of the
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think the schedule is still favorable for them to, like I said earlier, probably win 10 or 11 games more than likely, or at least get close to that number.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think the defense is going to be the thing that's going to get them there.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I think this was a sign.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if they struggle against this version of the giant defense, whoo, it's going to be a lot harder when the, when the offense is get better.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: We'll just have to see, I think, you mentioned this earlier in that episode, right?
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: The offense is going to have to sort of scale up to patch over the defense.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll see, I mean, that's the part of the team that's going to get healthier, right?
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe that'll happen.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: But that's really, I think that's where the the real sort of shift of what this team is going to look like is, which is what?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: We sort of, in a way, after like the first couple of weeks, we're like, okay, that's probably what's going to happen, right?
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: The offense is going to come back and they're going to like be this juggernaut and the defense is going to grow into it.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: The defense is not growing.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: So the offense has to be that juggernaut because the defense is not growing.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: But in many ways, not all too dissimilar from what like me expected the team had to have to start this year.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think generally it's what we thought, like we didn't think this defense was going to be up to snuff even if Bosa and Warner played the whole season.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, we saw signs of that early in the year where it's like, hey, you know, like, this has, there's a potential here, but it's not.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: a top five or top 10 defense and so, but the offense should be good enough, and the offense is generally been kind of me, at best, it's at its moments, but this is certainly the best moment that we've seen from them, and I think that's it, I think if this team is going to get anywhere this season, it's going to be because the offense is going to get really healthy at the end, and just like will this team into the playoffs and
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what happens from there.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, we'd like to be like to make that statement of Ellie.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: If you get into the dance, you just never know what will happen.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if this is that, this is going to be the kind of team that can make that kind of noise because given the defensive efficiency, deficiencies, I feel like this offense would have a score like 40 points of game in order to make up for that, but I think getting in would be a pretty major win based on how the season has gone, that's my opinion.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: crazier things have happened.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't want to like sort of, there's a chance.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think they do have to get it, right?
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: They're by the sheer fact they're now 6 and 3.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: They've won too many games to get us efficiently high pit, right?
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're kind of like, they're already probably out at the top 10, right?
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's yeah, I mean, unless they lose less, well, even if they lose the rest of the games, I feel like yeah.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: And so if that's the case, then really like you, there's no like tanking incentive here, not that there ever is, but like there's definitely no tanking incentive here.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: So if there's no tanking incentive, you might as well make the playoffs right, see what happens.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, there's talent on this offense.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: And you get the right teams in the right situations.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: You can make a run on me 2021, right?
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like that team.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: a large part of why it was able to do what it did was because it played the right teams and the right places, right?
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like it got the packers who like for the life of them cannot could not be the 49ers back then.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: And moreover, in like a very cold sort of like adverse condition game, I'm totally blanking on who they'd be before.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: Was it Seattle?
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: No, I didn't think so.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: But they got some team that was not really a whoever it was.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right, like, they didn't really play a world beater in the playoffs.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: They got to the Rams.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: They outplayed the Rams, whatever, not litigating that.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: Or they played well enough to win a deck game.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: But I think they got somewhat, like, like, there was the...
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was the Cowboys, it was the, it was the Cowboys game where I think that was the one where deck
- 50:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're deck forgot to hand them where they forgot to hand them all to the Yeah, the official So, you know, two like Fine teams that can't beat the 49ers Really pretty like pretty pretty good setup.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'd say for that team.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: So in that way, right, like You do there's opportunity When you get in, but
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's no expectation.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you compare like 2023, the expectation was they win the Super Bowl.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right, like that, that was a Super Bowl winning team.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think getting in, like if they have a Washington type of running,
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think like you said, if they get in, that's an unabashed success given the way the season is gone, Kyle Shanahan should win the coach of the year, if anyone says otherwise, they're crazy, and this entire award is completely broken, because I don't understand what people give it to me.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: I get the colds, I get it, I get it, I don't just pick a way to side it and decide it, right?
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: Because anyway, sorry, a little tangent, but like,
- 52:07[SPEAKER_01]: That should be their goal.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: That is attainable, right?
- 52:11[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about the ramps game.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_01]: The ramps are better than the Niners right now.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: The C-Hox are better than the Niners right now.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: There's no change in saying that.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's just the reality of the injuries.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think we feel like he doesn't mean that the ramps and C-Hox will be the 40 Niners because the 49ers are pretty good at beating teams from LA and Seattle.
- 52:34[UNKNOWN]: So
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: They have some, like, we've been talking about this team as if they've, like, fallen off this precipitous cliff, right?
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then some ways, they have, right?
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: They have the amount of talent that is not playing for them.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's astronomical.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: Be ready to team.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: He said, the exact, they are still in my, like, honest estimation, not even thinking about, like, their record.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: They're probably in the top half of teams in the league, with the players on the field right now, right?
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: This is still a very competitive town to team that's better than a lot of teams, even accounting for all the injuries.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_01]: And that, like, you know, maybe they're not gonna reach those lofty standards that we were hoping for this year.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: But their standards that they have they can reach none of the less and I think that's going to be really important and I think they're going to reach them so it'll be it'll be fun to see if that plays out.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the importance that you mentioned is good because like, this is a pretty young team.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's really heavily dependent on, I mean, there are some older guys, Trent Williams and the like, but there's also like a lot of first, a lot of rookies and the last second of your guys really making big, important, working, serving as important players on this team, next year that will be even more of the case because the third year guys like Granado Green
- 54:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, they're going to be still important.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_00]: And the guys that drafted this past year are still important.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_00]: And they're going to, in where I'm sure we'll spend the offseason talking about how important the draft is once again for them to continue to maintain their success.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that, that to me is the time for these, these rookies, especially, but the sort of first and second of your guys, because like,
- 54:31[SPEAKER_00]: Let's be frank.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: Last year's rookie class, well, they played well for the most part, I think, and we saw a lot of good things from them, like that season was terrible.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so this is getting their first taste of success.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: And even if they just kind of just miss it, if they can get into the mix where they're like, they're in a playoff hunt, I think that's going to be really important for that group, for the rookie group, for the whole team.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then they go into next off season going, okay, look what we did as injured as we were,
- 55:01[SPEAKER_00]: Look what we're able to accomplish, like, let's go out and do it again with a full full squad in 2026.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, and that's not us, like saying, oh, this year is over, like, let's just move on.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's talking about the rest of this year matters because of the way that sets up next year.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what it comes down to to make it for me.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: Any final thoughts on this one, actually, I was going to close it up.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean nice win.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm to watch minus my Kelsey injury, but I didn't hate it, you know, like can't can't complain much worse teams to be a fan of I'll just say that true could be a jet fan everybody just remember that that's true that makes everyone can go to bed or like I don't know like go to work.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: or whatever interval of your day, you are listening to this.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: You can go to that happy that you're not a jet swim right now because that is that is brutal right to have your build up and then tear down and your build up doesn't even reach like an actual like status of like success.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_01]: That I think to me that's the part that hurts, right?
- 56:23[SPEAKER_00]: So this car's gonna be tearing down.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_01]: Right, like, you got these players, you got this set up.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, they peaked under their first year with solid basically.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's terrifying.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's, that wasn't even a player.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's fans.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: We're sorry, everybody.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you're listening, if you're listening, you're welcome.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, please.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: We'll let you in.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: You can be like Homer Simpson in that the Bush is going out coming out of the Niners fan.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, there we go.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
