- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hello, Big Blue Nation, Welcome to Just the Cats on
- 0:13Speaker 2: this Tuesday, August fourth. I hope everybody's having a great
- 0:17Speaker 2: day so far as uh uh. You know, I get
- 0:20Speaker 2: here just in time, and I'm so sorry, but five
- 0:23Speaker 2: O two three four fourteen fifty you want to call in?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Five oh two four one four fourteen fifty you want
- 0:28Speaker 2: to text in on the Whiskey Thief text line. I
- 0:30Speaker 2: got to get everything situated here.
- 0:32Speaker 1: You know.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Usually I get here early enough and I'm just literally
- 0:35Speaker 2: walking in the door by the way, good morning, justin.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I hear you say, justin Tome. It's my favorite time.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Oh really yeah, justin. Oh that's right. I didn't even
- 0:44Speaker 1: think about that. Yeah.
- 0:46Speaker 2: A lady asked are you are you? What are you
- 0:49Speaker 2: rushing for? And I'm like, I'm not Russian, I'm American.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Oh my god. Yeah, that is the lamest dad joke
- 0:54Speaker 1: of the bay. I know it is. Well, you don't
- 0:57Speaker 1: think that justin time is lame? No, I mean that's
- 0:59Speaker 1: what I was getting ready to say. I used the
- 1:01Speaker 1: Russian one all the time too. I love dad jokes.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I do sometimes, but then it's like, okay, enough of that.
- 1:09Speaker 2: That one commercial that's on TV I think is really
- 1:11Speaker 2: funny is the guy that's a therapist and he's trying
- 1:15Speaker 2: to help all the people not act like their parents.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, the insurance one. I love that one.
- 1:20Speaker 1: When the door closes, the conversation in.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I love that he's in the grocery store trying to
- 1:28Speaker 2: help him. He's at the coffee house yelling the people's name,
- 1:31Speaker 2: trying to help him find whose coffee this is.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I just I don't know.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I I love good commercials, and I've always thought that
- 1:37Speaker 2: was a really, really good one. But anyway, but I
- 1:42Speaker 2: will say yesterday justin huh I that was probably one
- 1:48Speaker 2: of the funnest shows I've done.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It was it I got.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I'm glad just say that. And I'm not I'm not
- 1:55Speaker 2: looking for any kind of cheap compliment. I promise you
- 1:58Speaker 2: I'm not. But but I will say, I mean, first
- 2:02Speaker 2: of all, we're set up there, you know, you heard me,
- 2:04Speaker 2: right there at the recruiting room, that Pattiotian zone, and
- 2:07Speaker 2: you're overlooking all of Commonwealth Stadium. And here's the funny
- 2:12Speaker 2: part is that Larry I gave Larry Vaught a real
- 2:16Speaker 2: hard time about this off air because he kept saying, Michael,
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know, it's it's it's after nine, it's it's. He
- 2:23Speaker 2: kept counting down the clock for me, saying, Okay, these
- 2:27Speaker 2: people are coming. Will Stein's not coming. The players aren't coming.
- 2:31Speaker 2: The the the conference press media conference starts at nine thirty.
- 2:36Speaker 2: He's down there on the field.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He's not coming. He was being very pessimistic.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Extremely. He was even worse off the air. And I
- 2:45Speaker 2: love Larry Vaught. He's one of my favorite people. And
- 2:50Speaker 2: I just like, oh my gosh, man, his whole his
- 2:53Speaker 2: whole die tribe about the Jersey patches.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I was dying. Oh yeah, I was in here, Roland.
- 2:58Speaker 1: What don't care if they have of R I thought
- 3:01Speaker 1: that was hilarious. Well that part I kind of agree
- 3:05Speaker 1: with them. No, I do too, Yeah, yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I mean, if it's going to keep the price of
- 3:10Speaker 2: tickets down for fans, the price for concession down for fans,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm all for it. Let the corporations buy all that stuff,
- 3:19Speaker 2: because you know, it's it's to a point now the
- 3:22Speaker 2: normal fan can't buy championship tickets, NFL super Bowl, World Series,
- 3:30Speaker 2: NBA Finals, College worlds, well, I don't know how much
- 3:33Speaker 2: College World series is, but I mean, like the championship
- 3:36Speaker 2: for college football or basketball, it's price out of the
- 3:41Speaker 2: normal person. And now we're getting ready to the point,
- 3:44Speaker 2: get to the point where we're gonna price ourselves out
- 3:47Speaker 2: of just the normal fan going to a normal season
- 3:49Speaker 2: game for sure, because of how much colleges are having
- 3:52Speaker 2: to pay.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Now. I mean, haven't we kind of already done that.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I mean, if you're looking, if you're if you've got
- 3:57Speaker 1: a family of four and you're going to just a
- 4:00Speaker 1: regular season college football games, yeah, you're gonna spend probably
- 4:05Speaker 1: upwards of five hundred dollars, if not more. Yeah, when
- 4:07Speaker 1: it's all said and done, when it's gas, parking, concessions, yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 1: ticket prices. I mean, you're it's not cheap anymore. No,
- 4:15Speaker 1: nothing's cheap anymore.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So anyway, because yesterday I thought I got plenty of
- 4:20Speaker 2: time to get there, Lexington's not a big town, so
- 4:23Speaker 2: I won't have any traffic issues, all of a sudden,
- 4:26Speaker 2: it's like you're texting me, how far out are you?
- 4:29Speaker 2: Let me know when you're there. It's like, man, I
- 4:32Speaker 2: it's like it's taken me a lot longer than I thought.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Time I was trying to time it with my brakes
- 4:38Speaker 2: you were I was doing. I got worried that. It's like,
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna now be late because I gotta get there,
- 4:44Speaker 2: gotta park, I gotta walk all the way to where
- 4:47Speaker 2: the gate is to get into the recruiting room set up.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I mean, it's like, oh my gosh.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Man.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And the part that was probably not just Larry Vought
- 4:55Speaker 2: that made me laugh, but the part that probably made
- 4:58Speaker 2: me laugh the most is that my old buddy Shane
- 5:02Speaker 2: and the dude called me after the show and said, dude,
- 5:05Speaker 2: I could hear you on my radio show.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So he's like, you.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Were broadcasting over iHeart, not just your show. And evidently
- 5:18Speaker 2: he said Tom Leach made a comment too that I
- 5:20Speaker 2: was a little on the loud side.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I wait, so they could hear you from where they
- 5:24Speaker 1: hold I'm not surprised by oh yes see.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And I thought, I thought, well, you k told me
- 5:30Speaker 2: what they're gonna do. So they had two radio stations there,
- 5:33Speaker 2: us and them, and I'm like, oh boy, this is
- 5:38Speaker 2: not going to be good because I know, first of all,
- 5:41Speaker 2: I'm loud, I laugh loud, and I just know what
- 5:46Speaker 2: it's going to be terrible for them, not for me,
- 5:51Speaker 2: and yeah, and Shannon was like, yeah, we heard you
- 5:53Speaker 2: the entire time, to the point where Tom Leach even
- 5:56Speaker 2: said something that's you know, It's like, jeez, man, that's
- 5:59Speaker 2: the last thing I want to do is upset Tom Leech.
- 6:02Speaker 2: But I've always been loud. I can't help it. There
- 6:06Speaker 2: are days I don't need a radio to broadcast my voice.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You never need one, no, and anyway, but it was
- 6:14Speaker 2: a lot of fun. But mister pessimistic over there, and
- 6:17Speaker 2: then he just smiled because you know, when will was gone,
- 6:21Speaker 2: when Kenny Minchi and Colton Price were gone during a break,
- 6:26Speaker 2: I just looked, did not look away at Larry Vaught,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and he knew exactly what I was saying, and he
- 6:34Speaker 2: just smiled and says, Yep, you did it. Anyway, it
- 6:37Speaker 2: was fun. I mean, I don't know what I enjoyed more.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I thought will Stein was a lot of fun. I
- 6:43Speaker 2: did try to ask him the question though about you know,
- 6:46Speaker 2: the GM situation kind of ignored it, which is okay, yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 2: I think so, but I want to tell you.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But but that tells me that it was something personal
- 6:59Speaker 1: within his life and that yeah, doesn't want people to know.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Maybe a girlfriend that doesn't want to move to lex
- 7:05Speaker 2: intention she wants to say in Oregon, it's like it's
- 7:07Speaker 2: either me or UK. That's kind of what it feels like.
- 7:12Speaker 2: But anyway, we don't know. And uh, I'm not going
- 7:16Speaker 2: to ask the question again. I hope no one else
- 7:18Speaker 2: asked the question, but to me, it had to be asked.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Don't you agree? Or did it not?
- 7:24Speaker 1: I mean I don't maybe not that version of it,
- 7:29Speaker 1: oh really, but I would. I would have leaned, probably
- 7:31Speaker 1: more so in the way of, well, what was the
- 7:34Speaker 1: guy's name? I already forgot his name, Joe, Joe, beyondy? Phil?
- 7:39Speaker 1: Is it Phil beyondy? It doesn't matter because beyondy whatever.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I would have asked, basically something along the lines of, well,
- 7:45Speaker 1: how how do you expect that transition to be? How
- 7:50Speaker 1: do you expect Pete Knock to take over for him
- 7:54Speaker 1: and do what he was doing? Do you have faith
- 7:56Speaker 1: in that that process? Basically, which he would have said, yeah,
- 8:00Speaker 1: or I wouldn't have put him in that spot, and yeah,
- 8:02Speaker 1: you would have got a boring answer, So maybe you
- 8:04Speaker 1: shouldn't know. I don't know. I just listen.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I asked it right off the cuff as best I could,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and he just kind of went with the whole knock
- 8:12Speaker 2: the thing, and that's probably the way he should have
- 8:15Speaker 2: answered it. But it was fun having him on. I
- 8:18Speaker 2: thought that Kenny Minschi did a really nice job. Yeah,
- 8:23Speaker 2: he's well spoken. That's exactly what I said. As soon
- 8:27Speaker 2: as we went to break, I said, man, he is
- 8:29Speaker 2: a well spoken young man right there, and and and
- 8:34Speaker 2: the other part is, I.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Know it was funny real quick. So I had Ian
- 8:37Speaker 1: in here with me yesterday, all right, and interning in
- 8:40Speaker 1: and he was he had like a headphone in in
- 8:43Speaker 1: one ear. But then Minchi started talking and I turned
- 8:46Speaker 1: him up and I was like, Ian, he sounds just
- 8:49Speaker 1: like you. And he kind of laughed. And I don't
- 8:52Speaker 1: know that he necessarily agreed, but I thought he sounded
- 8:54Speaker 1: like internio.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Interesting. Yeah, Okay, I didn't. I didn't pay attention to
- 9:00Speaker 2: close enough.
- 9:00Speaker 1: But uh.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And then then you had Colton Price, big old hands,
- 9:06Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna tell you for the
- 9:08Speaker 2: fiftieth time. They were gigantic. I could not get over
- 9:13Speaker 2: his hand, and and just the nicest guy. I really listen,
- 9:19Speaker 2: there was there wasn't a point yesterday that I did
- 9:21Speaker 2: not enjoy, other than just being hectic. Okay, probably pretty
- 9:25Speaker 2: fast too, right, Oh, it felt like it was a
- 9:27Speaker 2: ten minute fifteen minute show?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Was it?
- 9:29Speaker 2: And then what the nice part was? Willstein came back,
- 9:32Speaker 2: took a picture with us, and and then and then
- 9:36Speaker 2: that was it, and I walked out.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I'm trying to think.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Oh, I walked out with one of the coach's wives
- 9:47Speaker 2: and I can't Joe Sloan's wife and two little girls.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Joe Sloan's the offensive coordinator for UK came from LSU
- 9:55Speaker 2: and I when I introduced myself and she goes yeah.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I said, now your coach Sloan's wife. She goes yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 2: and and she I asked her how she doing in Lexington.
- 10:08Speaker 2: How's the transition been from Louisiana Acid You're from Louisiana,
- 10:11Speaker 2: aren't you? She goes, I am, and she goes, it's
- 10:13Speaker 2: been very nice. People have really been nice to us here,
- 10:16Speaker 2: and we've adapted and really in a small period of
- 10:20Speaker 2: time made it our home.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And I was glad to hear that. Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah, So I thought, I will tell you here's the
- 10:28Speaker 2: difference last year or any of the years before. And
- 10:32Speaker 2: this is not a knock on Mark Steukes, And that's
- 10:36Speaker 2: not what I'm trying to do. But between last year
- 10:38Speaker 2: and this year, it's completely different. Whereas I can tell you,
- 10:43Speaker 2: probably Mark Steukes wouldn't be up there doing interviews, we
- 10:48Speaker 2: wouldn't have had players up there doing interviews. And it
- 10:51Speaker 2: seemed like this this coaching staff and team is a
- 10:55Speaker 2: lot more welcoming, whereas University Kentucky's doing a really nice job.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Now for me that they're much more that's the word imptive, receptive,
- 11:06Speaker 1: more relaxed there. It feels like they're just really having
- 11:09Speaker 1: fun with all this and maybe maybe that dude changes.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I just feel like maybe that's due to the age
- 11:15Speaker 1: of will Stein. He's just a little bit younger. Like
- 11:17Speaker 1: I saw several interviews yesterday where he was asked a
- 11:21Speaker 1: silly question and and the way he answers it, like
- 11:24Speaker 1: he just kind of laughs it off and gives it
- 11:26Speaker 1: his best effort, and and just that's that stuff so
- 11:30Speaker 1: endearing because it's like players. I feel like players can
- 11:33Speaker 1: relate to a guy like him a lot better than
- 11:35Speaker 1: they could have a Mark Stuo.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, I completely agree with you, But it just
- 11:42Speaker 2: seems like, Okay, we're But on the other hand, he's
- 11:45Speaker 2: ready to play, he's like I because I know he
- 11:47Speaker 2: said it a little bit on the air about I'm
- 11:51Speaker 2: ready for media stuff to be over, and then he
- 11:54Speaker 2: said it even more off the air. He goes, I'm
- 11:55Speaker 2: just so done with this, and I looked at him says,
- 11:58Speaker 2: I completely understand. So uh, anyway, it was it was
- 12:03Speaker 2: a highlight of me hosting a radio show was probably yesterday.
- 12:07Speaker 2: I mean it really was because I I've always interviewed
- 12:11Speaker 2: the coaches, but it's always been either on the computer
- 12:16Speaker 2: when we're doing the whole Google meet thing, or it's
- 12:20Speaker 2: been by phone. I've never done it with the coach
- 12:23Speaker 2: literally three feet away from me, and that's the part
- 12:27Speaker 2: I probably enjoyed the most, having the players and coaches
- 12:30Speaker 2: right there with you. So but anyway, it was fun day.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I I will say, I'm glad it's over. And uh
- 12:37Speaker 2: but and now we've got to get back to our
- 12:40Speaker 2: normal self.
- 12:41Speaker 1: You did you leave right after the show? No? I did.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I stay.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I hung around a little bit, hung out with our
- 12:48Speaker 2: good friend Nick Rausch and I'm yeah, yeah, and well
- 12:52Speaker 2: I was forced to and so uh but but I
- 12:55Speaker 2: watched him interview will Stein as well. But then uh,
- 12:59Speaker 2: I took off had lunch with Oscar Combs and because
- 13:04Speaker 2: he texted me, he says, where are you going after
- 13:06Speaker 2: the show? And I said, wherever you want me to
- 13:07Speaker 2: And so I went and had lunch with him at
- 13:10Speaker 2: his favorite restaurant and then took off from there. So yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 2: long day. Yeah, it's fun day. Yeah yeah yeah. And
- 13:18Speaker 2: it wasn't Sunday yet, but it was a fun day.
- 13:20Speaker 2: But yeah, it was. It was fun Sunday.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Monday. What's that fun day Monday? Yeah, it was probably
- 13:27Speaker 1: was a fun day Monday.
- 13:28Speaker 2: So now some of the questions I wish I had
- 13:35Speaker 2: asked that he didn't get to ask because you know,
- 13:38Speaker 2: this whole situation with the judge in Colorado. We didn't
- 13:42Speaker 2: get a chance to talk about a few things yesterday
- 13:45Speaker 2: because I wanted to concentrate mostly on football.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Oh you all. I was actually told the roommate last night.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I was like, I was very impressed they talked football
- 13:53Speaker 1: for two straight hours.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Why would you be impressed by that? Because I like
- 13:56Speaker 2: to talk about ridiculous stuff. Yeah, I mean, you never
- 13:59Speaker 2: spend too hours talking sports.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Ever. Well, but ever, I don't think is that bad? No, no, no,
- 14:06Speaker 1: I mean that's how you operate your show. I'm good
- 14:09Speaker 1: with it. You're good with it. I'm good with it.
- 14:11Speaker 1: But I was just it stood out yesterday, Yeah, just
- 14:14Speaker 1: how much you all talked sports.
- 14:15Speaker 2: We did, and uh, we did talk about sports, but
- 14:20Speaker 2: but I felt like that was a day you should
- 14:23Speaker 2: talk about nothing but football.
- 14:25Speaker 1: For sure.
- 14:26Speaker 2: It's it's especially since we're right there. I mean, I
- 14:29Speaker 2: can't imagine the head sports information director, Tony Neely's right
- 14:33Speaker 2: there and he's hearing me talk about some lady eating
- 14:37Speaker 2: too many corner the cobs in Iowa. I mean, I
- 14:40Speaker 2: can't do one of those kind of topics. The fact
- 14:43Speaker 2: that you called him the wrong name, Terry. I know,
- 14:46Speaker 2: I called him Terry, and I've known.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Tony for a long time. I was just sitting in
- 14:51Speaker 1: here shaking my head, like what has happened? I know
- 14:54Speaker 1: exactly the sad part about it. I've known him a
- 14:57Speaker 1: long time, I know what his name is, and I,
- 15:00Speaker 1: for some reason Terry came out. I have no again.
- 15:04Speaker 2: You heard me tell the story Patricia, My wife doesn't
- 15:07Speaker 2: even think we're married because I said her name wrong,
- 15:10Speaker 2: and the author I did it is like, oh jeez, man,
- 15:14Speaker 2: I don't know what it is with Michael Bennett names
- 15:17Speaker 2: and I don't know if I'll ever figure that guy.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I really don't. And it's it's it is frustrating to me.
- 15:23Speaker 2: You laugh, but it's embarrassing. And then and then I
- 15:26Speaker 2: try to make a joke out it. He did laugh,
- 15:28Speaker 2: he did, Yeah, no, he did. He handled it very well,
- 15:31Speaker 2: he did. But anyway, so there we go. All right,
- 15:35Speaker 2: I do want to talk about this court case where
- 15:38Speaker 2: we're a judge in Colorado agreed for a fifth year
- 15:45Speaker 2: on players.
- 15:47Speaker 1: What have you seen that? But oh yeah, what are
- 15:50Speaker 1: your thoughts about this? Everybody's seen that. So initially when
- 15:54Speaker 1: that first came out on was that late Friday night, Yes,
- 15:57Speaker 1: I want to say it was. Yes. First of all,
- 16:00Speaker 1: Twitter was one of the craziest places on planet Earth
- 16:03Speaker 1: that night, just seeing all the reactions to all that
- 16:06Speaker 1: and stuff, and then just the confusion that kind of
- 16:09Speaker 1: came after, like, well, what does this mean? You had
- 16:13Speaker 1: all of our local heck, every team across the country
- 16:15Speaker 1: was reaching out to guys that potentially could have that
- 16:19Speaker 1: fifth year, and then you get the the clarification that well,
- 16:23Speaker 1: you can't go elsewhere unless you were already in the portal, right,
- 16:28Speaker 1: but if you do have a fifth year, you can
- 16:29Speaker 1: go back to your other school. Correct. That just oh,
- 16:33Speaker 1: that just creates such a headache, like for example, not
- 16:37Speaker 1: to discuss my Hoosiers here, but there's Red Bailey and
- 16:39Speaker 1: there's Sam Alexis. Both of those guys can come back
- 16:42Speaker 1: for a fifth year. We've only got one spot. Sam
- 16:46Speaker 1: Alexis has already came out and said that he's coming
- 16:49Speaker 1: back to Indiana. So now what happens to Read Bailey?
- 16:51Speaker 1: He's left out in the cold and he doesn't get
- 16:53Speaker 1: to play a fifth year because he can't go back
- 16:55Speaker 1: to his alma mater or where he was at last year,
- 16:58Speaker 1: or does that push somebody else out off the team?
- 17:00Speaker 1: I just I think this whole thing is going to
- 17:03Speaker 1: get really really messy. And this is for me, this
- 17:06Speaker 1: is just the tip of the iceberg. We are just
- 17:09Speaker 1: getting started here.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Well, it does get to a point where you think
- 17:12Speaker 2: that didn't tell where Aberdeen was probably the smartest guy
- 17:16Speaker 2: out there, because he is he one of the few
- 17:19Speaker 2: that put his name in the transfer portal and now
- 17:22Speaker 2: he's there's no doubt he's gonna play at Florida next year. Yeah, correct,
- 17:26Speaker 2: which uh, good for him, But Kentucky, that's the thing
- 17:29Speaker 2: Kentucky doesn't have one of those guys right on the
- 17:33Speaker 2: football side. Yeah they're on the football yes, but basketball
- 17:36Speaker 2: side no, I.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Mean, and and what do you do with I feel, honestly,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I feel really bad for the guys that got drafted
- 17:44Speaker 1: late in the second round or even the second round
- 17:46Speaker 1: when yeah, it's cool that you got drafted because that
- 17:49Speaker 1: was your only option at that point. But if you
- 17:51Speaker 1: were to tell them, hey, you can get drafted twentieth
- 17:54Speaker 1: pick in the second round, or you could go back
- 17:56Speaker 1: to your school that you were at for another year
- 17:59Speaker 1: and make all kinds of nil money, I think a
- 18:02Speaker 1: majority of them would have gone back to school.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah you wonder now, because is that what it's gonna
- 18:06Speaker 2: be about? Who wants to be draft in the second round?
- 18:10Speaker 1: Ye?
- 18:11Speaker 2: Don't you want to be drafted in the first round?
- 18:13Speaker 2: So is that gonna Is this potentially going to mess
- 18:16Speaker 2: up the NBA draft to where players are more decisive
- 18:23Speaker 2: about how they want to go. I mean, I think
- 18:27Speaker 2: it's gonna be tough. You're gonna look at fifty year
- 18:29Speaker 2: players now on a regular basis if this sticks, and
- 18:34Speaker 2: then those fifty year players will probably be the second
- 18:37Speaker 2: round draft picks. But the three, the two, three and
- 18:39Speaker 2: four year draft guys in college, they're not going to
- 18:42Speaker 2: consider NBA for a second round? Is that gonna make
- 18:45Speaker 2: the second round a lot tougher for NBA team?
- 18:48Speaker 1: The way I understand it is, we just basically have
- 18:53Speaker 1: to get through this year and figure out this mess
- 18:56Speaker 1: this year because moving forward, you get five for five
- 19:01Speaker 1: with every class. Correct, Pretty sure?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Yeah, well that was the other thing, because then they
- 19:07Speaker 2: might finally have a bill for college sports that the
- 19:10Speaker 2: Big Ten and the SEC greg SANKI have agreed on.
- 19:15Speaker 1: So we're gonna.
- 19:16Speaker 2: See if this will get approved and passed or not.
- 19:22Speaker 2: But on the other hand, the former Auburn coach Tommy
- 19:26Speaker 2: Tupperville down in Alabama, he's like, I don't like this bill,
- 19:30Speaker 2: and he's doing everything he can to work against that bill.
- 19:33Speaker 1: See that's what I'm saying. This is all just gonna
- 19:35Speaker 1: do exactly.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Nothing is going to I mean, how long before you
- 19:41Speaker 2: think we kind of feel normalty in college sports.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Is it gonna take five years? Is it going to
- 19:47Speaker 1: take ten years? Is it gonna take more than that? Never? Yeah? Never.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I mean I've said that for years now. We are never, ever,
- 19:56Speaker 1: ever going to go back to the college sports that
- 19:59Speaker 1: we knew. Ever, I mean, will this sucks? Will this
- 20:02Speaker 1: ever get taken care of? Then?
- 20:04Speaker 2: Because you're so pessimistic about this, you're sounding like Larry
- 20:06Speaker 2: Vault right now?
- 20:07Speaker 1: Do you think this will? I don't believe in the
- 20:10Speaker 1: n C Double A. Yeah, that's the end, should I?
- 20:13Speaker 2: But but doesn't the NC DOUBLEA not believe in himself either?
- 20:16Speaker 2: Because every time they turn around and try to rule
- 20:19Speaker 2: something against the school or a college, I mean, they
- 20:22Speaker 2: just get shut down by somebody taking it to a
- 20:25Speaker 2: local judge that's gonna overturn it. And that's what's so frustrated.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I mean, they have it seeming seemingly lost a lot
- 20:32Speaker 1: of power. So then why have the NC double A?
- 20:37Speaker 2: And if I'm Tennessee, going back to that whole situation
- 20:40Speaker 2: of the player down there, the football player and getting
- 20:43Speaker 2: ruled out for two games. If I'm if I'm Tennessee,
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm saying, screw it, he's playing. I don't care what
- 20:50Speaker 2: you say. And what are you gonna do? Those two
- 20:52Speaker 2: games don't count? I mean, that's that's a simple ruling. Gee,
- 20:55Speaker 2: he played in an ineligible player. Those are both all
- 20:58Speaker 2: four hundred dollars four hundred dollars rules. Michael, That's that's
- 21:03Speaker 2: a ridiculous sentence right there. Maybe a half a game,
- 21:07Speaker 2: maybe one game at the most, but two games. I
- 21:11Speaker 2: know they're worthless games. But this is just this is
- 21:14Speaker 2: where I've lost all respect for the NCAA. We gotta
- 21:17Speaker 2: take a break. So anyway, if you gone John one long,
- 21:20Speaker 2: I didn't explain it to him yesterday. I said it
- 21:23Speaker 2: right to his face and he just didn't react. Now
- 21:25Speaker 2: he laughed, yeah, but I didn't. I forgot to explain
- 21:29Speaker 2: what that meant. But anyway, we got to take a break.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Five O two three four fourteen fifty. If you want
- 21:34Speaker 2: to call in follow two four one four fourteen fifty,
- 21:37Speaker 2: you want to text in on the Whiskey Ted text line,
- 21:40Speaker 2: or you can tweet me at just the Cat Radio.
- 21:41Speaker 1: A lot more.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I want to hear your tweets today, so our text today,
- 21:45Speaker 2: So text in to me and let me know. Are
- 21:49Speaker 2: you excited about this upcoming football season or are.
- 21:53Speaker 1: You kind of wait and see.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's the part that I think a
- 21:58Speaker 2: lot of people are really debating him right now. So
- 22:00Speaker 2: stay right there. More just the Cats coming right now?
- 22:11Speaker 2: Mm hm, you know the BAM.
- 22:54Speaker 1: She was a Amican.
- 22:57Speaker 2: You know, I had a uh, a guy I knew
- 22:59Speaker 2: down in Gainesville, Florida. You know, Tom Petty is originally
- 23:02Speaker 2: from Gainesville, Florida. And so this guy that I knew,
- 23:06Speaker 2: his last name was Petty and Kyrie. No, it was
- 23:10Speaker 2: not Cale Petty, but it was something else, and he
- 23:15Speaker 2: was he was a very successful orthpeak surgeon down there
- 23:18Speaker 2: at University of Florida. And every time Tom Petty came
- 23:22Speaker 2: to town to do a concert, his phone would blow
- 23:25Speaker 2: up for two days trying to look for Tom Petty
- 23:28Speaker 2: because they thought they were related. He goes, this is
- 23:31Speaker 2: the most frustrating thing in the world. Yeah, they looked
- 23:34Speaker 2: alike though. Yeah, they were not good looking men. Tom
- 23:38Speaker 2: Petty was just not one good looking.
- 23:40Speaker 1: He was cool.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong, Tom Petty's not cool. He was cool,
- 23:46Speaker 2: but he was not good looking. But anyway, are we
- 23:50Speaker 2: a little worried that now with Denzel Aberdeen going to
- 23:54Speaker 2: Florida and being able to play about playing against them now, I.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Mean, if you are scared of playing Florida, it's not
- 24:04Speaker 1: because of Denzel Apps It's not. Yeah, it's everything else.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It's still the all the monsters they have inside Yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 1: they're They're like the same team they were. It's insane. Yeah,
- 24:14Speaker 1: it's crazy. All right, Well we'll talk more.
- 24:16Speaker 2: About that in a couple of minutes. But John here
- 24:20Speaker 2: five two four four fourteen fifty want to text in? Hey, Michael,
- 24:24Speaker 2: I know you're busy, but by gosh, we do miss
- 24:27Speaker 2: cross talk with you and.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Justin for sure. Yeah, I agree.
- 24:31Speaker 2: This morning, Justin and I were talking about Canine, which
- 24:33Speaker 2: is the running back for my Chiefs, Kenneth Walker, Kenneth Walker,
- 24:37Speaker 2: the third Uh that that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Is his nickname.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I know it's his nickname. But tell me what are
- 24:46Speaker 2: some cool other cool nicknames of athletes that you all like.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Well, I can tell you my dad.
- 24:56Speaker 2: He had a nickname in high school and it was

- 25:06Speaker 2: My dad played at a place there called Father Ryan,
- 25:09Speaker 2: which is kind of the Trinity of Nashville. And his
- 25:12Speaker 2: nickname was Flash because he was so fast. So at
- 25:16Speaker 2: one time, my dad, in nineteen fifty was the second
- 25:19Speaker 2: fastest guy in the state of Tennessee. That's crazy, so
- 25:22Speaker 2: he was fast. Uh did Michael Benny get those jeans?
- 25:24Speaker 1: Nope? Not even close. Uh. But what are some other ones?

- 27:19Speaker 1: It's horrible? Why why is that horrible? I just I
- 27:22Speaker 1: hate they're so ugly.
- 27:24Speaker 2: But I don't disagree with you there. It doesn't take
- 27:27Speaker 2: much to uh, all right, Shaquille O'Neal diesel.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I mean we could go on and on. Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Uh, there's gotta be more and I'm missing him.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Oh, there's a hell of a lot more.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Was Jerry West really called the logo? Of course he
- 27:46Speaker 2: was the logo? But did people really nickname him that?
- 27:50Speaker 2: He wasn't the logo in his playing days?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Was he? No? Because then that wouldn't make sense now
- 27:54Speaker 1: he would.
- 27:55Speaker 2: He was probably called that after his Yeah, I know,

- 29:15Speaker 1: was kind of rude. It's like, well, I hate that stuff.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Just keep it back there. It's disgusting. Who likes cinnamon anyway?
- 29:23Speaker 1: I like, sim well, you're an idiot. So wow, that

- 29:41Speaker 1: right there. That's a great one. I loved the bus. Yeah,
- 29:45Speaker 1: there there are. There's not a nickname for Lamar Jackson though,
- 29:50Speaker 1: which there should be a nickname for him. I think
- 29:52Speaker 1: he's gonname.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, uh man, I know there's more, but uh anyway,
- 29:58Speaker 2: if you want to help out, let me know that.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Let's see the big dog Vince Merrill. Yes, I was
- 30:06Speaker 2: gonna say that, and I thought.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Nah, I won't. I will.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I will tell you this though, And I don't think
- 30:12Speaker 2: Vince will mind. So on the way back from Lexington, Yeah,
- 30:15Speaker 2: I'm I'm on a little bit of a high. I
- 30:17Speaker 2: called him up and he I'm like, there's no way
- 30:20Speaker 2: he's gonna answer them all. He picks up the phone
- 30:22Speaker 2: and I said, I didn't say I didn't say an that.
- 30:24Speaker 1: He goes, what up? I said? I said, we're going
- 30:27Speaker 1: to beat you this year. UK is going to beat
- 30:31Speaker 1: U of L and you're gonna have to deal with that.
- 30:34Speaker 2: He just starts dying, laughing, and so I can't tell
- 30:38Speaker 2: you anything else he said, but it was it was
- 30:40Speaker 2: fun just giving him a little bit of a rouse there, because.
- 30:44Speaker 1: You know, he's always given me.
- 30:46Speaker 2: A hard time. But anyway, I had a good time
- 30:50Speaker 2: with that. Oh that's a good one, thank you. Forty
- 30:53Speaker 2: eight handily sugar Bear Hamilton of the Patriots not familiar
- 30:59Speaker 2: with that one either, but it sounds like a good one.
- 31:01Speaker 1: So we're gonna I don't know that i'd want to
- 31:03Speaker 1: be an NFL player called sugar Bear. Really, I mean,
- 31:07Speaker 1: could you imagine the other team using that against you
- 31:09Speaker 1: the whole game? Hey, sugar Bear? Well, you know what, U.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I found it interesting there would be players that really
- 31:18Speaker 2: would get in the mind of other players. They would
- 31:20Speaker 2: do a lot of homework about their family and start
- 31:24Speaker 2: calling their other family names, and it would freak them out.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I read an article about this about a year or
- 31:30Speaker 2: two ago, how they would just get it became a
- 31:33Speaker 2: mind game where they would do all this homework, find
- 31:36Speaker 2: out about certain players family, and start yelling out their
- 31:40Speaker 2: names just randomly. Wow, I don't I think that's hilarious.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I feel like there's a lot of fair game when
- 31:48Speaker 2: it comes to smack talk. But I don't feel like
- 31:50Speaker 2: that's fair game. Don't don't bring my family into it. Really,
- 31:54Speaker 2: don't bring my family.
- 31:55Speaker 1: All right? Did well? They weren't saying anything negative. No,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I know, but don't like. I don't. I don't need
- 32:00Speaker 1: other players researching my family and learn their name and
- 32:03Speaker 1: trying to call me their name. To me, that's just
- 32:06Speaker 1: my personal opinion. I think that.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Crosses if your wife's name out of your mouth exactly.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, that's that's probably what I'd be yelling.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Uh the Louisville lip for Ali when he was still
- 32:16Speaker 2: named Clay. The Louisville What the Louivell lip is?
- 32:20Speaker 1: What it says? Never heard that one? Is it?
- 32:23Speaker 2: Because he had, you know, he always had a little
- 32:25Speaker 2: something to say. I don't I don't know. I did
- 32:29Speaker 2: like the name Cassius Clay. I thought that was Yeah,
- 32:33Speaker 2: it really is. I mean I like to know him.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Is that I met the Fridge a few years ago
- 32:38Speaker 2: when I was selling insurance. Sack said, that's your brother. Yeah,
- 32:43Speaker 2: Zach said that, Zach, Or you didn't know that, Zach?
- 32:46Speaker 1: Are you aware of what the Fridge did? Like, that's
- 32:49Speaker 1: pretty awesome that you got to meet him.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Well, I'm with you right there, and it's like, holy cow.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Uh And you didn't even know that he met the
- 33:02Speaker 2: other party. What I'm surprised about.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I've been finding out all kinds of things from Zach lately.
- 33:06Speaker 1: He texted in I guess it was last week, said
- 33:10Speaker 1: that he got to sit next to oh, what's his name,
- 33:14Speaker 1: Pablo Escobar. He sat next to the daughter of his
- 33:18Speaker 1: pilot on a flight. Okay, so she was like telling
- 33:22Speaker 1: him all these stories that she was a kid and
- 33:25Speaker 1: her dad was a pilot for Bablo Eskebaro. That's awesome,
- 33:28Speaker 1: that's crazy, that's awesome. My oldest sudden Max Uh sat
- 33:34Speaker 1: next to and talked for a long time to Matt Ishbia. Okay, yeah,
- 33:40Speaker 1: you know who he is, don't you? Owner of the
- 33:43Speaker 1: who not Clippers, no Warriors, no Phoenix Suns. Son's right.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So he calls me out and says, do you know
- 33:51Speaker 2: a guy named matt Eshpa. I'm like, yes, he owns
- 33:53Speaker 2: the Sons and he said, yeah, I've been talking to
- 33:56Speaker 2: him for the last fifteen twenty minutes. I'm like, oh
- 33:58Speaker 2: my gosh, you're killing me. I didn't know who he was,
- 34:01Speaker 2: and so I thought that was pretty cool.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Imagine not knowing somebody or who they are when you're
- 34:08Speaker 1: sitting next to him on the plane and you're just
- 34:09Speaker 1: making small dog and it's like, what do you do
- 34:11Speaker 1: for a living? Yeah, I own the Phoenix Sun exactly.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Accuse me, why are you on this flight? No offense.
- 34:17Speaker 2: He's not flying a commercial plane. He's got his own.
- 34:20Speaker 2: But that's the way my dad was. He would know
- 34:23Speaker 2: who people were, and I think that's why these people
- 34:26Speaker 2: ended up liking him. It's because he didn't know who
- 34:29Speaker 2: they were. It was kind of refreshing to walk around
- 34:31Speaker 2: and it's like, Okay, this is a guy that doesn't
- 34:33Speaker 2: know me. On the other hand, there are people that
- 34:36Speaker 2: got upset. They got upset with me because I didn't
- 34:38Speaker 2: know who they were. But well we won't get into that. Yes,
- 34:43Speaker 2: but all right, we gotta take another break five o two.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Keep keep them coming in because I enjoy this kind
- 34:47Speaker 2: of I got two more to get to send some
- 34:49Speaker 2: more in five o two four four fourteen fifty and
- 34:52Speaker 2: you want texting on the whisky t text line as well.
- 34:56Speaker 2: We got to talk a little bit about basketball and
- 34:58Speaker 2: some more football. But uh and the news at Churchill
- 35:01Speaker 2: Downs that came out yesterday, I mean big news in
- 35:05Speaker 2: horse Race.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Is this true?
- 35:07Speaker 2: This is very true. We'll talk about that top of
- 35:10Speaker 2: the hour. But yeah, this is very true, so we'll
- 35:12Speaker 2: talk about that as well. So stay right there. More
- 35:14Speaker 2: Jessicat's coming out and Tom.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Petty, I like you made it, Tom Petty day. I'm
- 35:18Speaker 1: very happy today.
- 35:26Speaker 3: She was. It was beautiful day. That's the radio.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I was dragged jess wee back leandy. I was sad.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Now I will say UK went all out on the
- 36:23Speaker 2: food yesterday. Oh yeah, yeah, Oh my gosh, baked chicken, sausage, ribs, sausage,
- 36:32Speaker 2: oh yeah, with sausage sausage links breakfast no ribs and
- 36:38Speaker 2: baked chicken no no, no, this was all.
- 36:40Speaker 1: But they did have some pastries there for hang on,
- 36:43Speaker 1: we had sausage links lunch. Yeah it was yeah. You know,
- 36:47Speaker 1: you go to barbecue places and they offer smoked sausage,
- 36:51Speaker 1: and that's what this was. It was delicious. Ribs were delicious.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Fruit was delicious. I had a little fruit. I didn't.
- 36:57Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 36:58Speaker 2: They had his Willstein his mom's place there with the dessert.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Oh where have you been? Apparently not in the loop?
- 37:09Speaker 2: Good lord? Yeah, the whole sissy cake. So it's a
- 37:13Speaker 2: it's a famous place here in town. My wife swears by,
- 37:16Speaker 2: and so they had her his mom's cakes there, and
- 37:20Speaker 2: uh so I didn't try one. I kind of feel bad.
- 37:24Speaker 2: I should at least taken a bite, but you know,
- 37:27Speaker 2: the fruit was my dessert. So I'm trying to stick
- 37:30Speaker 2: with what I've been doing. So anyway, are you looking
- 37:33Speaker 2: it up right now?
- 37:34Speaker 1: Incredible? Yeah, exactly. So.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Uh now, will will Stein look into another fifth year player?
- 37:41Speaker 2: Because you know I answered the question yesterday? He wants
- 37:43Speaker 2: depth and is there a chance that he goes after
- 37:46Speaker 2: some fifth year players that have not been picked up
- 37:49Speaker 2: by an NFL team, Well, just so be it. There
- 37:51Speaker 2: are a couple of players. One I think is definitely
- 37:54Speaker 2: worth the opportunity. Uh, And that's because that's is where
- 37:59Speaker 2: uh the room is a little on the young side.
- 38:04Speaker 2: And you got former UK linebacker Alex Afari who hasn't
- 38:09Speaker 2: been picked up by the NFL team. Is there any
- 38:11Speaker 2: chance you think that will will go after Coach Stein
- 38:16Speaker 2: will go after Alex to come back that A lot
- 38:18Speaker 2: of people are saying there is a good chance he
- 38:20Speaker 2: comes back to the UK for a fifth season. I
- 38:23Speaker 2: think that would be great. Yeah, that'd be huge. Now
- 38:26Speaker 2: do we know the scholarship situation.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I do not.
- 38:31Speaker 2: I don't remember what it is. But if he's continued
- 38:34Speaker 2: to pick up these players, I think there is room.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yeah there was another player, but I'm not gonna throw
- 38:40Speaker 2: the guy into them because I don't This is what
- 38:42Speaker 2: I was trying to say earlier with all this stuff.
- 38:45Speaker 2: I don't want to get to a situation where you're
- 38:48Speaker 2: bringing back these guys. Is Alex Afari gonna be a
- 38:51Speaker 2: big time piece to get back in sure, Yeah, but
- 38:54Speaker 2: if that's costing someone else their scholarship, that's what I
- 38:58Speaker 2: want to avoid. I don't want to screw the younger
- 39:02Speaker 2: players out of a scholarship. Just to bring in this
- 39:05Speaker 2: fifth year guy.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and I realized that's probably going to happen across
- 39:10Speaker 1: the board at every level or at every sport, and
- 39:13Speaker 1: that's the one thing I don't want to see. Yeut. Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:17Speaker 2: The UK offensive line talked about how they're doing yoga
- 39:20Speaker 2: every Wednesday. It's good for you, and Wednesday is their
- 39:24Speaker 2: recovery day. And I looked at this and I'm like,
- 39:28Speaker 2: wait a minute, who said this? And then I found
- 39:30Speaker 2: out it was Malachi Wood. Malachai Wood's the offensive tackle
- 39:33Speaker 2: six foot eight, three hundred and thirty pounds. It says
- 39:37Speaker 2: it really helps, and you just said it's good for you.
- 39:40Speaker 1: It is.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Have you done yoga before. I've done yoga before. Ye
- 39:43Speaker 2: If it's good for you, why do you not continue
- 39:45Speaker 2: to do it? Because it's hard?
- 39:47Speaker 1: Yeah? I hate it and I hate to say, well,
- 39:50Speaker 1: you know how I feel about that word. I don't
- 39:53Speaker 1: do it. I don't like it. I won't do it.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I've been forced to do it, but I don't want
- 39:58Speaker 1: to do it anymore. My wife loves it. It's boring.
- 40:01Speaker 2: She does the whole hot yoga stuff, you know, where
- 40:04Speaker 2: the room's really hot. I've gone the first time she
- 40:07Speaker 2: took me.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Uh.
- 40:08Speaker 2: The the instructor was a male and he was a
- 40:11Speaker 2: little too instructing me. Okay, I told you this before.
- 40:15Speaker 1: I told yeah.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And then the old lady next to me farted, and
- 40:19Speaker 2: it's like, I looked at my wife. She knew I
- 40:22Speaker 2: was done. I mean, I couldn't get out of there
- 40:24Speaker 2: fast enough. I mean, there's something about releasing gas from
- 40:28Speaker 2: the body in the hot room that just makes the
- 40:30Speaker 2: smell of it worse. Okay, so I just I can't
- 40:34Speaker 2: do that. But respect to the offensive line for doing this,
- 40:37Speaker 2: and uh, I listen, I get it. I get the
- 40:41Speaker 2: whole sonic coal plunch thing. Now, that's what I want.
- 40:46Speaker 2: You can have the yoga. I'll do Sonic cold plunch
- 40:50Speaker 2: because that, to me, that's the most energy I felt
- 40:53Speaker 2: in a long time doing the cold plunches. That that
- 40:56Speaker 2: is what's addicting to me, whereas to my wife it's
- 41:00Speaker 2: the whole yoga thing.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I can I can understand it because for the last
- 41:05Speaker 1: probably three months, I have not taken a hot shower.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I've taken only cold shower. Really yeah, and wow, it
- 41:12Speaker 1: feels so much better. It does like it cools my
- 41:16Speaker 1: body down and in a way that taking a hot shower.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Never could well try it in a bathtub. No, I
- 41:21Speaker 1: won't do that.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I don't know why, because it's even better and you
- 41:24Speaker 2: sit in it for as long as you can. There
- 41:28Speaker 2: would be times I would sit in that cold plunge
- 41:30Speaker 2: for a man five to ten minutes.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I think I loved it.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I would do this on the first and then I'd
- 41:37Speaker 2: get in there and it just is refreshing, and I'd
- 41:40Speaker 2: go back. I bet you I was doing it three
- 41:42Speaker 2: or four times and then being done, so I'd be
- 41:45Speaker 2: doing it good for freaky every single day.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it just felt that good. Anyway.
- 41:52Speaker 2: One person texted in and said, the honey Badger, Oh yeah, Tree,
- 41:58Speaker 2: how do you say his last thing with Matthew?
- 42:01Speaker 1: Was it Matthew and Matthew? I think, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:03Speaker 1: What's his first name? Tyron? Is it? I think it
- 42:07Speaker 1: was Tyron Perion, Tyron Matthew?
- 42:08Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, the honey Badger. See, I remember the honey Badger,
- 42:12Speaker 2: and I kind of remember his last name. He played
- 42:15Speaker 2: for a Notre Dame. Didn't he was it Elsie. Oh
- 42:18Speaker 2: that's right, it was Alshu. I'm sorry we forgot the captain.
- 42:21Speaker 2: That's a good one who was the captain Derek Cheeter.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Oh yeah, who was the great one? Wayne Gretzky, Wayne Gretzky,
- 42:31Speaker 2: that's right, Rayne Geers. That's another really good one. Uh,
- 42:35Speaker 2: Will from South Central, he said, Dominic Wilkins the Human
- 42:39Speaker 2: Highlight film. That's a phenomenal name right there. And I
- 42:44Speaker 2: can't believe we forgot this one. Will from South Central.
- 42:47Speaker 2: And I appreciate that Darryl Griffith back in the day
- 42:51Speaker 2: was known as doctor Duncanstein. I'm so disappointed in myself.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Charles Barkley, The round Mount of Rebound?
- 43:00Speaker 1: Is that real? I think it is.
- 43:02Speaker 2: I love that Darryl Dawkins Chocolate Thunder. That sounds like
- 43:08Speaker 2: something from I don't remember Darryl Dawkins being called that,
- 43:11Speaker 2: but that sounds like something from the movie Semi Pro
- 43:16Speaker 2: Chocolate Thunder. What do they call the one player Coffee
- 43:19Speaker 2: Black in that movie? I haven't seen Semi proas.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Oh really?
- 43:25Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I think his nickname was Coffee Black and
- 43:29Speaker 2: I loved that. But forty eighth Annalias, How did Rivera
- 43:33Speaker 2: do the other day?
- 43:34Speaker 1: Michael?
- 43:35Speaker 2: It looked tough. She ran second and came out really well.
- 43:39Speaker 2: So was it second or third? I forgot to follow up,
- 43:44Speaker 2: Oh you did.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Yeah, but the one person said the captain was also
- 43:50Speaker 1: pee wee Reese. I didn't know that. I didn't either.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Michael Bennett, it's a tie between oh geez, here
- 43:59Speaker 2: we go, all right, then, thank you, mister Illinois. Michael beIN,
- 44:04Speaker 2: it's a tie between fancy pants or poop food takes.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. I know.
- 44:15Speaker 2: You're just having fun with me. But it is funny
- 44:18Speaker 2: you the text you sit into me. I'm mister Illinois.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I want to tell you I really enjoy no exactly,
- 44:26Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. And then we forgot this one. Jared
- 44:32Speaker 2: was hefty lefty. How could you and he I know,
- 44:35Speaker 2: of all people, how could I forget that hefty lefty man?
- 44:40Speaker 2: That was a boy, What a great guy. But yeah,
- 44:44Speaker 2: by the way, second, okay, she did finish.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Second, thank you. She ran a good race. But uh yeah,
- 44:51Speaker 1: by the way, we sold her.
- 44:53Speaker 2: So they're allowing us to owne new owners are allowing
- 44:55Speaker 2: us to continue to race her, uh for a few
- 44:58Speaker 2: more races and then and she'll be Uh she's owned
- 45:02Speaker 2: by a I believe in Australian group that's going to
- 45:04Speaker 2: breed her. So I'm looking forward to her next life.
- 45:07Speaker 2: So she's a sweet horse, by the way, a very
- 45:11Speaker 2: sweet horse, and I've got some great video of her
- 45:13Speaker 2: just loving all over me. I mean that's that's oh
- 45:16Speaker 2: my gosh man. Anyway, all right, so we got to
- 45:19Speaker 2: take another break. Hour two coming up. When we come back,
- 45:23Speaker 2: I know I'm don't shake your head. No, I'm still
- 45:25Speaker 2: gonna talk a little more. I know we got one minute.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Like I just told you a minute. I know you
- 45:30Speaker 2: you think I'm gonna be done in fifteen seconds. I mean,
- 45:33Speaker 2: now you're wasting my time. When I was gonna say,
- 45:35Speaker 2: because you're all worried, I'm not gonna go a minute.
- 45:37Speaker 1: All you need to say.
- 45:38Speaker 2: My gosh, now you're acting like Patricia. You're interrupting me
- 45:42Speaker 2: and say, just say what you gotta say, and let's go, Michael,
- 45:44Speaker 2: let me finish exactly. Oh my gosh, man, I'm already
- 45:49Speaker 2: frustrated with you. But okay, thirty seconds.
- 45:52Speaker 1: I got it. I hope everybody on YouTube is seeing
- 45:56Speaker 1: all that you're doing to me. Okay, is are we
- 45:58Speaker 1: on YouTube? Well?
- 45:59Speaker 2: Okay, good, I need to advertise it more. I'm not
- 46:01Speaker 2: doing a very good job. But now I got ten
- 46:03Speaker 2: seconds left. I want to talk about Churchill downs and
- 46:07Speaker 2: and is this ruining horse racing or do you think
- 46:12Speaker 2: this is helping I well, I'm not going to say
- 46:15Speaker 2: I've already said, but we'll talk about and then Corey
- 46:18Speaker 2: Price is going to be here too, because it's Tuesday.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Stay right there. One more hour of Just the Cats
- 46:22Speaker 1: coming right up after this. Welcome to Just the Cats
- 46:40Speaker 1: with Michael Bennett.
- 46:46Speaker 2: All right, that one number two on this Tuesday. I
- 46:49Speaker 2: liked it a lot of Tuesday. Are you got a
- 46:51Speaker 2: good looking at there on justin Caitlin, I mean that
- 46:54Speaker 2: is really good looking at Yeah. I had a lot
- 46:56Speaker 2: of people give me a hard time about you know,
- 46:59Speaker 2: I had on one of my sny Kill Stable shirts
- 47:02Speaker 2: yesterday and and Larry Vos like I didn't get one, John,
- 47:06Speaker 2: did you get one? I'd love to have. I'd wear it.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I can tell you that I wish I had one,
- 47:10Speaker 2: and I wish I had oh really? Okay, all right,
- 47:13Speaker 2: but I'll take the hat for you, will Okay. I
- 47:16Speaker 2: haven't made another order for stuff, so yeah, I think
- 47:19Speaker 2: they turned out nice.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I really do.
- 47:22Speaker 2: And but we'll figure it out because you know, we're
- 47:24Speaker 2: gonna talk a little bit about horse racing.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Today, I am in talks with one and the one
- 47:31Speaker 1: and only.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Dale Romans has approached me about doing a podcast and
- 47:39Speaker 2: where we would talk mostly kind of like what we
- 47:41Speaker 2: do here. We talk mostly UK and then and then
- 47:47Speaker 2: we talk about everything else. So Dale kind of likes
- 47:50Speaker 2: that format. He kind of It's like, Michael, I'd like
- 47:52Speaker 2: to do mostly horse racing and then talk about whatever
- 47:56Speaker 2: else you want to talk about. And I'm like, what
- 47:58Speaker 2: platform do you want to use? He is, well, I
- 48:00Speaker 2: was hoping to put it on YouTube, and I'm like, okay,
- 48:03Speaker 2: we can put it on YouTube, and I think we
- 48:04Speaker 2: can put I was talking to Stephen what's his last week? Yeah,
- 48:09Speaker 2: peak yesterday. He's like, I can help you, so I
- 48:13Speaker 2: don't know.
- 48:13Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Big Blue Bowl came to lunch with us yesterday. I
- 48:17Speaker 2: was talking to him about it. He goes, Michael, I'll
- 48:19Speaker 2: definitely help you. So I've got people that want to help.
- 48:22Speaker 2: But let's just see if I want to do it's
- 48:25Speaker 2: one more thing. I mean, good, gosh, as if enough,
- 48:29Speaker 2: That's what I'm worried about. But that's once a week, right,
- 48:32Speaker 2: doing a podcast like that once a week. But anyway,
- 48:35Speaker 2: but you know who else joins us once a week,
- 48:37Speaker 2: don't you absolutely Tuesday?
- 48:41Speaker 1: I mean you keep missing it. You used to do it.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Nobody knows what we're talking about. You always just kind
- 49:01Speaker 2: of raised your fists up in the air, but now
- 49:03Speaker 2: you're just out of sync.
- 49:04Speaker 1: But what.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Yeah, since you've been back, since you've been gone, that's uh,
- 49:09Speaker 2: since you've been back. Yeah, well, since you've been Oh
- 49:12Speaker 2: please not that one. I like, since you've been gone
- 49:14Speaker 2: by the cars, but uh uh. Anyway, Corey Price is
- 49:18Speaker 2: with us today, buttoned all the way to the top
- 49:20Speaker 2: and UK good looking shirt. Reminds me that we're thirty
- 49:24Speaker 2: two days away from football and I know you're you are,
- 49:27Speaker 2: so if anybody's ready out there.
- 49:30Speaker 3: You definitely are. I am getting from my fifth season
- 49:34Speaker 3: working with Tom and Jeff.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Has it been five seasons?
- 49:38Speaker 2: This will be my fifth? Yeah, I would have said
- 49:40Speaker 2: probably this is your third season. I didn't realize it
- 49:43Speaker 2: had been five.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Good for you. I can't wait to see the videos.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Those are my favorite.
- 49:49Speaker 2: I agree along with Jeff Picurow and to me, I
- 49:53Speaker 2: know I'm biased, but Tom Leach and Jeff Picurrow by
- 49:57Speaker 2: far the best play play I play in color. Guys
- 50:01Speaker 2: out there, I love the Jeffer curls phenomenal and scoots.
- 50:05Speaker 1: I agree.
- 50:05Speaker 3: I hope you do see lots of those because they
- 50:08Speaker 3: only show them after wins.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Oh do they really? Oh really, I don't know that
- 50:12Speaker 1: I ever realized.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Yeah, they don't have them out for loss.
- 50:15Speaker 1: They should still put out the highlight tape with you
- 50:17Speaker 1: on the booth for lost. Yeah, they don't. So I
- 50:20Speaker 1: do hope we have lots of them this year. I'll
- 50:22Speaker 1: get ready to see you two times.
- 50:24Speaker 3: Oh your funny scoots suck it?
- 50:28Speaker 1: Did you just say that? Okay? Four go?
- 50:33Speaker 2: I mean I was surprised, yet I thought mister pessimistic
- 50:36Speaker 2: Larry Vought would have said a lot less games than
- 50:38Speaker 2: he ended up saying four or five games?
- 50:41Speaker 1: Or did he say five or six? Yeah? He did?
- 50:43Speaker 2: He I didn't say five or six, And then John
- 50:46Speaker 2: Wong was like six or seven, and I was like six. Yeah,
- 50:50Speaker 2: oh boy, here we go. Okay, how old are we now?
- 50:53Speaker 3: Justin Oh, I'll be actually forty one this this month?
- 50:57Speaker 3: Well you really, uh twenty fifth? Oh you won't be
- 51:02Speaker 3: here three weeks from yeah, you'll be here. I'll be here,
- 51:05Speaker 3: oh on Tuesday on my birthday.
- 51:07Speaker 1: It's nice, Okay, we are.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Going to have a special birthday show for Corey Price,
- 51:12Speaker 2: even though even though he never listened to our show
- 51:14Speaker 2: outside of here.
- 51:15Speaker 1: What yeah, you heard me? Anyway? I know, I know
- 51:19Speaker 1: what you do. I pay attention to your Twitter ACAF.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Thank you, I think question Mark all right, what's going
- 51:29Speaker 1: on this week, Corey Price?
- 51:31Speaker 3: This week is August second through the eighth shot up
- 51:34Speaker 3: with August second, two thousand and two, The science fiction
- 51:38Speaker 3: horror film Signs is releasing.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Figures.
- 51:42Speaker 3: Well, that's not it, that's not it. It's the same director,
- 51:46Speaker 3: but different movie.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Movie.
- 51:47Speaker 3: Bruce Willis see that People is the sixth sense. Gosh, yeah, yeah,
- 51:52Speaker 3: great movie.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Yeah. And Signs by the way, great movie, I agree.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Directed by m Night Shamalan on its stars Abigail Breslin,
- 52:02Speaker 3: Rory Colkien, Mel Gibson, Cherry Jones, and Joaquin Phoenix. Film
- 52:09Speaker 3: grosser appross me two hundred and twenty eight million dollars domestically,
- 52:13Speaker 3: Watch Out Problem Yep, I Think in the fourth highest
- 52:17Speaker 3: pressing film of two thousand and two and two thousand
- 52:20Speaker 3: and four. Bravo ranked the Brazilian birthday party scene number
- 52:24Speaker 3: seventy seven on this list of the one hundred scariest
- 52:26Speaker 3: movie moments. Do you know what number one was?
- 52:31Speaker 1: I don't. I couldn't guess either.
- 52:34Speaker 3: According to Bravo, it is the opening scene from Jaws.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Really that's not scary?
- 52:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I mean it's maybe back in the day.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Now I think they're scared.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Was unrealistic? Yeah, I mean it is a movie excuse
- 52:51Speaker 1: so yeah, but the shark didn't even look close to real.
- 52:54Speaker 3: It was like nineteen seventy five.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Come on now, yeah, well people knew what sharks looked
- 52:58Speaker 1: like in nineteen seventy five. It's hard to make a
- 53:01Speaker 1: fake shark. You know. It took time. I'm just saying
- 53:04Speaker 1: it takes credibility away from it's scary, all right.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Moving on August third, two thousand and one, the coming
- 53:10Speaker 3: of age comedy film The Princess Diaries is really sh theorious.

- 57:13Speaker 1: It was terrible.
- 57:14Speaker 3: Well, I'm sorry, I'll work on it.

- 57:29Speaker 2: Ah.
- 57:32Speaker 3: August six, the action comedy film The Other Guys is
- 57:37Speaker 3: reusing god.
- 57:40Speaker 1: One of the greatest movies ever. And it wasn't Will
- 57:44Speaker 1: oh no, it was. I love that movie. I sorry,
- 57:48Speaker 1: any movie with even Mendez has to be well, but
- 57:51Speaker 1: not just that. Have you seen the bloopers of this?
- 57:53Speaker 1: I mean it is. It is awesome. I think Mark
- 57:57Speaker 1: Wahlberg and Will Ferrell make really good movie.

- 58:45Speaker 3: at the eighteenth highest correction film of twenty ten. The
- 58:48Speaker 3: film was not it for five teen Choice Awards, but
- 58:51Speaker 3: went over over five. They should have won every one
- 58:54Speaker 3: of them. I agree, Yeah, teen Choice Awards. Nobody respects anyway.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Who cares?
- 58:59Speaker 3: I guess teens do.
- 59:00Speaker 1: It should have won an Oscar.
- 59:04Speaker 3: Comedy films tend to not get much respect at the Oscars. Sadly,
- 59:09Speaker 3: it says, FBI. You know what that means, don't you.
- 59:13Speaker 3: August seventh, nineteen ninety two. The Western film Unforgiven ISAs
- 59:19Speaker 3: the man You're you're seeing some great movies today, but
- 59:22Speaker 3: you didn't like westerns? I don't, but anything with Clint
- 59:25Speaker 3: east Word, Gene Hackman. I mean, I'll go through the
- 59:28Speaker 3: entire list.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Right there. That's that Morgan Freeman.
- 59:32Speaker 2: That's a phenomenal movie right there, checking most of that
- 59:35Speaker 2: or someone sorry about that?
- 59:36Speaker 1: That's all right?
- 59:36Speaker 3: Directed about Clint Eastwood, starring of course Clint Eastwood, Franctis Fisher,
- 59:40Speaker 3: Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman, Richard Harris, and Saul Rubinik film
- 59:46Speaker 3: grocer Proxy one hundred and one point two million dollars
- 59:49Speaker 3: domestically make at the eleventh highest grossing film of nineteen
- 59:52Speaker 3: ninety two and two thousand and seven, the American Film
- 59:55Speaker 3: Institute ranked the film number sixty eight ansless that one
- 59:59Speaker 3: or Great Films and American cinema History.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: What was number one greatest film in history.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: American semi history according to the American Film History in
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: two thousand and seven.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Was it that one? I can't think of the actor's name.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: It was another Western one.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: It's not number one. No, never mind, I can have
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: you hint Rosebud and then you'll get your Rosebud.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: No, I don't get it. Citizen Kane. I don't like
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: that number. I never saw it.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: It's it's old, really okay, Yeah, so here it goes
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: with the old movies again. It's I think it's from
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: the thirties.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it's Black one, and that's the best
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: movie we've ever made, according to them.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: And this is two thousand and seven, so maybe something's
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: come out in the last ninete years.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: I think I would have said Kevin Costner made something
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: that would have been number one.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I would have said, Redempson, that's good. That's good.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Last one, not going two far back for this one.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: August eighth, twenty twenty five, the horror film Weapons is
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: released in figures. Did did y'all go see Weapons?
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Not? Never even heard of it? Sorry? That's good.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: Directed by Zach Craiger, it starred Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin,
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: Alden Ehrenreich, Julia Gardner, Toby Huss, Justin Long, Amy Madigan,
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: and Benedict Wong. Film grocer proxyly one hundred fifty one
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: point six million dollars domestically, making it the sixteenth highest
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: ructioning film of twenty twenty five, and the film was
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: not only for one Academy Award, winning for Best Supporting
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: Actress for Amy Madigan.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Is Julia Gardner related to Jennifer?
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: I believe they are distant cousins. Yes, yep, absolutely, who exactly?
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Okay? There you go?
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: So well, you you want to talk about it? You
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: mentioned during the you want to talk about a little bit.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: I don't know too much, but I know it's probably
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: important to you. Listen, it's big news as far as
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: horse racing goes. So yesterday Churchill downs and in conjunction
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: with NIRA, New York Racing Association made the announcement that
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: they are starting a horse racing championship series, and what
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: it's going to entail is that you're gonna have the
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Derby normal time. Then you're gonna have six weeks later,
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: you're gonna have the the Belmont Stakes, and then after
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: that you're gonna have the matt Win a few weeks later. Win, yes, exactly, no, win, yes, exactly,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: matt Win. You're exactly in July?
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Uh?
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: Just then's it goes to Saratoga for the Jim Dandy
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Uh July. It'll be in July, yes, it will be
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: past weekend, yes, and then or it could be our
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: early August one of the two. Then in late August
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: it's going back to Saratoga for the Traverse Stakes, which
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: is coming up and finally finishing in September back here
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: in Louisville with the championship race yet to be named
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: at Churchill Downs.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: So here's what I like.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Before you say anything, Corey, now I do want you
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: to chime in on this. Here's what I like is
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: that not only were you going to have the Kentucky Derby,
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: we are now going to have three races, two additional
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: ones at Churchill Downs. So this is great for the
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: city of Louisville because if they're going to keep points,
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: whoever gets the most points, not only do the owners
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: get to win the money the persons that are in
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: these races, but they'll win an additional five million dollars at.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: The end of this championship series. One kill Stables. So exactly. So, now, Corey,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: you said you wanted to stay and talk about.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: I mean there's one pretty big race that was not
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: on that list that. Yes, that's exactly correct. A huge
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: part of racing for I'm not a history of beth
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: on the Pickness, but over a.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: One hundred years. Yeah, yeah, same amount as Kentucky Derby.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: So the Triple Crown's dead.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: The Triple Crown is dead. And since Churchill Downs was
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: not allowed because the State of Maryland, uh kind of
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: came in there says we have first right to refuse
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: for the Preakness, and they they entered that option right
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: there and bought the rights to the Preakness, and Churchill
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Downs lost out. I think this is Churchill Downs and
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: NIRA getting back at Pimlico the Preakness and the state
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: of Maryland racing and saying, you know what you're out.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: At.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Uh, it's you know, it's sad. I mean, we've had
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: the Triple crowns for over a century. I just I mean,
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: I know, you know, I mean, like all things in life,
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: times change. But I guess I don't know a lie
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: about horse racing. But the only thing I do know
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: is those are races. So the fact that it'll be
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: it won't be that, you know, be castad.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: But so so the tradition is gone, You're right, and
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: so that's the part you don't like. Is that fair
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: to say? Yes? Okay, My question is I've got a
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: couple of questions. All right, I'm ready. What happens to that?
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Is that still going to be a big time race
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: that people want to get in? Or no?
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: I think not, because look at what's happened in the
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: last two years with the Kentucky Derby winners. What has
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: happened a sovereignty and Golden Tempo completely skipped it. Yeah, so,
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: and that's why I believe in that. I'm only speculating.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: I don't know the facts, but I'm speculating. The reason
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: Churchill Downs wanted to buy them has changed the date,
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: and then Nira would have gone in and said, okay, Belmont,
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: we need to change out. Let's spread it out a
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: little more so we can keep these championship races. And
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: since the state of Maryland said we're gonna, uh take
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: our option here and buy the uh the Preakness, they
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: were totally left out of this. Now I don't know
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: what happens to the Preakness other than it most likely
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: is completely dead.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: Does this now become a I guess we would six
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: be a sex tuplet crown? Yes? Is that? And that's
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: why they're calling you the Championship Series? I mean, would there?
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: I just can't imagine a scenario where you've got one
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: horse running through all six of these races and.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Why why why why I'm winning. That's why they have
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: the the big prize of five million dollars.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: If you do no, no, no, I know, but they're
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: gonna keep overall standing. Do you see a scenario where
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: one particular horse wins all these races? See and has
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: that become our new triple crown? Per se? Yes?
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: And there could be a chance that one does. There
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: could be a chance that well, I got this points,
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: I need to rest. But you're getting a lot of
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: rest between these races. That's the part that's nice again,
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: the part I go back to. It now makes the
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Matt win one of the biggest races out there. Win, Yes, exactly,
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: and uh and then it also makes whatever this race
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: is gonna be in September a big deal. So now
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: we're gonna have big racing.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Do we have any in Louisville? Do we have any
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: name suggestions for that final race? Yeah? No, I don't.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: We gotta just straight up, don't overthink it. We just
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: gotta call it the Finale. Right, that's a great name.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I actually like that. I mean that's a don't overthink it.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Just call it the Finale and let's move on.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: We can call it the photo Finish. Oh I like
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: that almost more. Yeah, yeah, uh once. You know a
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: ton of races, but I thought the Arkansas Derby was
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: it was a big race. I'm kind of surprised it's not.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: Want to say it's a pre Derby race. So yeah,
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: so that's why. Yeah at Oakland Park, most of those
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: other Derbys are pre Derby.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: So you got the Florida Derby, Ullstream, Tampa Bay has
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Derby. You got the Bluegrass Steaks, which
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: is a pre Derby. Yeah, so they'll they'll all stay
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: that way. Now there is I believe it's the new
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Jersey Derby. Mamas Park is going to be missing out
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: on a big race that they have the same weekend
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: as some of these other races at Saratoga. So there
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: are some tracks that are going to lose out from
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: the big races that they have. So but I listen.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: I had a strong debate with my wife last night
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: about this.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: She doesn't like it. She's all about tradition.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: And but but my point back to her as well,
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: there's not much tradition when after the last two years
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: you've had your Derby and Belmont Steaks, horse not even
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: consider going to the Freakness.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: So what do you do at that point? If they're
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: not considering, then why have it?
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: Once again, non expert, but are you surprised at Keenland
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: didn't get one of the six races?
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: No, Keenland's not open long enough. Keenland's only opened too
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: much in a year. Yeah, so you got April and
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: you got October, so there's no time frame for them.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: That's true. They get to have the Bluegrass Stakes, and
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: that's it. Now.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: If they were open a lot longer, yeah, they would
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: have the opportunity. I think one of these races would
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: definitely go there, maybe instead of the matt Win, maybe
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: it goes to Lexington. But no, they're not open, so's
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: the that's why they miss out. So I'm glad it's selfishly,
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: I'm glad it's coming to Louisville. This is this is
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: my home track, this is my home city. And I
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: hope the city wakes up and says this is fantastic
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: and embraces it and doesn't criticize the Churchill Downs about
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: a thing.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: I think some people will look at it, like I said,
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: as like backlash from them for the quickness, But.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: I agree, I mean it clearly looks that way. It
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: certainly has that appearance. But that was the choice. But
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: we don't know the inside conversations that were going on.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: Maybe Churchill Downs was trying to talk to Maryland and
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Maryland Racing and say, listen, this is what we're planning
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: on doing. If you don't want to be a part
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: of it, that's not our fault.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: So I listen.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: I like what Bill Carstangan is doing CEO of Churchill downs. Yes,
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: he's a friend, but I like what he's doing. You've
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: got to be progressive and horse racing has to wake up,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: and you know we're losing TVG and fan duel television.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: I think Nira's doing a phenomenal job with Fox. If
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: you haven't watched America's Day at the Races, they do
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: a great production of horse racing that day and it's
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: all Saratoga their Yeah. Yeah, but they need to get
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: some people that know what they're talking about. That's the
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: other issue with this. Sounds like they need to get you, Michael.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: But no, no, no, they don't need me. No, no,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: no no.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: I am not a handicapper, but I do like to
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: Not only do I like talking about horse racing. I
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: love talking about I could I could take an entire
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: show and talk nothing about horse racing.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Could I do it every day? Probably not, but I
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: do love it.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: I mean, what about once a week with Dale Romans?
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: Yeah that might be the case. Yeah, yeah, oh you
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: heard that. Stay tuned people.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Stay tuned. Okay, yeah, that I listen.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Dale Romans has stories outside of racing and they need
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: to be known because he is he is an absolute gem.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: I mean, he that that is a person we want
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: to keep in Louisville because he he just not only
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: speaks highly of of horse racing, but also of his city,
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: his state, and the I mean, he is just an ambassador.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: Are sure it's stories that he's willing to share, are
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: they absolutely?
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Oh, there's many stories that he's willing to share, and
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: that's why he wants to friendly for for podcasts or not.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Well, I just, I just I don't know.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: If we're gonna do it yet. So I can't talk
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: about too much because zero pressure. Oh you're putting the
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: pressure on Michael Binn.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Zero pressure. Just have it ready next week. But next week,
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: zero pressure, next week, let's pay. Yeah, it's not gonna
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: happen by next week. No, but we'll we'll probably know
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: something in the next month.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: So when Dale comes back and he and I sit
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: down and he tells me what he wants to do,
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: and I'm sure he'll make me say yes, But I
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: haven't said yes to anything yet.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: I'm tired. I mean, I got here, people are complaining.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I'm not doing cross.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Talk, so me I'm complaining. Yeah, he is all right, Corey.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Always fun to have you here. Your Birthday's win.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Three weeks from to day, I'll be the big forty
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: one August twenty fifth, twenty fifth old jokes coming your way,
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: big yeah, forty one years old. I am officially a fossil.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: WoT some would say, Jerry, and how what's the age
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: difference between you and your girlfriend?
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: There is any difference because there is no girlfriend.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: We gotta change this.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: Ladies, please please contact me to get a date with Price.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: He's just willing to pay anything to think you go
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: to dinner. Okay, well what let me rephrase that. He's
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: willing to pay any amount of dinner to take you out.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: So White Castle is great this oh, this time, this time.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Make sure to download the app. Court I've gone, I've gone,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: John one long, so we got to go. Corey Price
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: always good to have you. Go ahead and say it
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: to him.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: It's the way I love to end this segment Corey Price. Everybody,
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: we're gonna take a break. Say right there, this is
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: just a cat.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: You think you're gonna take Awayias with your money and
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: your cocaine. Girls, Away is got money and that other stuff. Wow, okay.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Cam Williams was interviewed and and mentioned that he believes
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: this is the year UK will shoot an average and
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: this is Mark Pope's goal, an average of thirty threes
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: per game. Exactly. I knew you would love that. Here
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: we go, get now.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: Cam Williams is saying it, uh now, just to to
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: kind of remind you there, you know, Mom Chilovich last
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: year shot seven and a half.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Per game. Is this a good thing?
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Knowing that you're gonna have players just lighting up threes
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: all the time? Is that what we because because that's
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: the kind of the way of the NBA play, isn't it.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean my thing is is I wouldn't want
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: to go into a game with a set number like yeah,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: if I'm Mark Pope, I definitely want to don't want
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: to set the president. Then we're gonna shoot at least
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: thirty times a game, because what's that What that's doing
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: is that's allowing the fan base something else to gripe about. Well,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: we only took twenty four and we lost by six.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: If we shot six more or we would have won.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: And it's it just opens up situations like that, They're
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: gonna shoot a lot of threes. I think we all
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: know that with the three point ability on this team,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: whether it's Mom Chilovich or Cam Williams or the reports
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: we've seen from Moe Williams this summer, I mean, or
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Mason Williams. Sorry, but this team's gonna shoot a lot
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: and and they should. But you also, you can't be
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: stuck to that game plan, right, I think you have
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: to have the ability to adapt. If the threes aren't falling,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: you gotta find another way to score. Well, what bothers
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: me is they're gonna be taking a lot of bad threes.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: I don't think so, you don't think so, No, That's
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: that's my biggest concern, is like, oh, we got to
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: get those threes up.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Let's shoot shoot. Well, you mean, when it comes to
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: bad threes, Mom Chilovich isn't gonna take one. I feel
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: like every shot that leaves his hand is going to
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: be a good three because he's just He's shown the
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: ability to be that good from deep where I'm gonna
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: trust him at all times. So, I mean, and if
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: the other guys can just limit theirs and take open looks,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: then I think this team will be fine, right, be
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: completely honest, Who are you more optimistic about the football
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: or the best basketball by far, really not even close. Yeah,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: I'm more if I'm Kentucky fan, I'm probably more excited
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: about football just because it is brand new and everything
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: is is a shiny new tool exactly. Yeah, But no,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: for me, it's basketball.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Because I will say with will Stein being right there
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: with me yesterday and these players being right there, and
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: I'll tell you who probably excited me more than anybody
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: else was Colton Price the ciner. I mean I looked
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: at him and hear him talk and to hear him
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: because I thought it was Larry Vauta asked the question,
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: which I thought was a great question. You've only been
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: having been here a year. What makes you say you're
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: going to be a good offensive line when you haven't
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: really worked together? I thought that was And his answer
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: was even better and the fact that, yeah, but we
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: are working together. We've got that confidence and we're doing
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: things together and we've got the same mindset.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: What was it the whole lens?
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: He said something about a lens, which was awesome. We've
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: got ten eyes looking through one lens, and I'm like,
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: oh my gosh, what a comment right there. But I
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: thought he was awesome and to hear him talk about
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: probably open. It's one thing to hear your head coach
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: talk because they're always going to be optimistic and you
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: expect that, but when you hear the players talking that
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: way too. Kenny Minschee was talking about that even off
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: the off the air, he was like, yeah, I'm so
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: excited about being here.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I mean everybody should be optimistic, right, everybody associated with
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: the team. Yes, because you haven't you haven't played a
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: game yet. No, no, but you want.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: But there is just an aura around them, especially Colton Price.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: There was an aura around him, in a quiet confidence
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: that you just felt. It's like there is something different
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: in this stadium today, and I hope that shines through.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: I mean, I really do.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: I think you're you're You're clearly your first test is yeah,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: maybe the first game, but when you face Alabama that
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: next game, if that game is close and this team
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: does look good, I'm telling you it might be different.
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: Then I'm worried about that game. Are you really? Because
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: there's just I've seen way too many addictions picking Kentucky
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: to win. Yeah, I'm with you there, it shouldn't be
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: that way. No, but uh, yeah, I'm not going to
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: pick Kentucky to win that game, but just in the
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: mindset of Indiana beat them thirty eight to three, so
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: we can. Yeah, I have no idea. I don't. I
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: don't know where they got a new quarterback. They got
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: a new lot of stuff they do, But I just
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: for me, I don't know where the confidence is coming from. Well,
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: because I don't think even the Alabama fans don't have
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: much confidence in debor do they. I would probably side
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: towards no exactly. By the way, the news came out
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: that al and Notre Dame are renewing their annual football series.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: Good for them, it's going to start back in twenty thirty.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: But but I guess so. But it's good for Notre Dame.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Is this good for Southern cal No? Yes, And this
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: is bad for college football.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Look, regardless of the schedule, If Notre Dame finishes eleven
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: and one on a year in a year out basis
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: like they've been doing for the last decade or whatnot,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: that's gonna look good for USC regardless of who Notre
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: Dame played. I hear you.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: But until colleges stick to their word that they're not
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: going to schedule Notre Dame Notre Dame is going to
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: continue to be Notre Dame and that's bad for college football.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Notre Dame needs to just bite the bullet. Join the ACC.
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: It's a light conference anyway, So what are you afraid.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Of because then the schedule talk doesn't go away, that
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: doesn't behoove them.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Well, they need to join somebody, because it's just it's
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: it's going to continue and until teams like Southern Cal
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: stop and stop forever until Notre Dame joins the conference.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: I'm just never gonna respect Notre Dame. I'm just not
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: going to. There's about their schedule, how light it is.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: It's like, come on, they're gonna if you k had
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: that schedule, they would probably they wouldn't go undefeated, but
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: they'd be darn well closed.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe they'd be probably in the playoffs. By the way,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna do that on my show tomorrow. What I'm that,
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna mix up all the local team schedules and
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: see the see the records. Oh I like that. Yeah,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go through Indiana, come on early with you.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna go through Indiana and Louisville schedule as if
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Kentucky's playing their schedule instead. Oh, that's a lot of
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: I'm just gonna switch all the schedules around. See what
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: the records would be. Yeah, that's how I got played
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: for MILWACKI wins that. That's a great one. Okay, I
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: can't wait for Cross I'll be on Cross Talk tomorrow. Okay,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: So John, don't worry, please, I'll be on there. We
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: gotta take another break, our last one. Uh and uh
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: so stay right there there there. I want to talk
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: about as a particular baseball to team ruining all of
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Major League baseball. Stay right there, one more segment of
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: justice happens. She let me, She done me.
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: You just can't creep, will it? Study it out? Done
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: a dirty road, study it out.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: Oh all right, we are our last segment on this
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: Uh it's Tuesday, it is I'm already messing my days up.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: Uh and I want to answer this text in just
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: a second. I don't want to answer it quite yet.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: But uh, let's see here. Forty eight Handley said, the
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: over under unwins for Notre Dame is the eleven and
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: a half. They only have twelve games, don't they, Yes, yeah,
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: they they're going undefeated. It's what he says, and they are.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: I mean, if you don't think, you really don't think
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: so I do. I think it's just gonna be uh anyway.
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: But you can't lose a playmaker like Jeremiah Love and
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: then just run undefeated the next year.
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Well, I'm just telling you that's what's going to happen.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: So uh, Marcus smug for that really uh last minute
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: trade deadline deal.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Dodgers. Look, yeah, they just got Superman. They really did.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: And that's one thing I want to talk about right now.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: Are the Dodgers ruining major League Baseball? A lot of
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: fans are really complaining and the diehard baseball fans that
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: the Dodgers and something has to change, and I'm not
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: sure what that is because you know, uh, they just
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: uh who's the player they just got, Yes Scoble. And
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: of course they're they're being aggressive with their financial spending,
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: their massive payrolls, deferred contract structures. I mean, at the
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: rate they're going, they're just going to be acquiring elite
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: superstar superstars and that's all they're.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Going to be doing.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: And to me, it's it's really hurty major League Baseball
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: because it's the haves and the have nots.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: I mean, they have one point one billion in deferred
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: payments on their roster. That's ridiculous, that's insane. I mean,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: they're playing, they're paying several players insane amounts of money
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: into the mid forties, like to twenty forty four. Otani's
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: getting paid like it's just so. I don't think the
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: Dodgers specifically are ruining baseball because they're just playing by
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: the rules that are out there. But the rules are
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: are what's ruining baseball. There's there's got to be something
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: done where this can level out the playing field somehow,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: some way, because it's just it's not fun. So it's
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: salary cap. You're just you're describing salary cap. Yeah, but
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: that's never gonna pass.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: That's the problem because you know, the the Players Union
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: is never gonna let that pass. But to me, that's
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: what's ruining major League Baseball because there's the havelves and
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: they have nuts, the haves being New York Mets, Yankees, Dodgers,
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: Boston Red Sox. Who am I missing? I mean, these
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: are the teams that spend just enormal, enormous gobs of
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: money on their team.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: The only issue I have. With salary cap, it's all
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: good in theory. But with the salary cap, there's also
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: gonna be a salary floor. So take your raise. For example,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: I think their salary this year is one hundred and
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: forty million. It's barely anything with the fourth least with
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: the floor, every team is gonna have to spend at
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: least one hundred and seventy one million I think was
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: the number. Yeah, so you're gonna You're gonna hurt these
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: small market teams even more by doing that because you're
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: forcing them to spend more money. Yes, I don't know
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: the answer. I have no idea, but the salary cap
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: helps NFL. That's why I think the salary cap is
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: what keeps the NFL so popular as the number one
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: sports professional sports in the United States. It's the NFL,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: I mean, bar none, and it's because every team has
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: a shot. In Major League Baseball, not every team has
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: a shot. They're just and they're never going to But
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: I don't think other sports are deferring payments either, what
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: are they Like, NFL's not deferring payments. No, they're not
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: differing payment like they just so b Jon Robinson of
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: the Falcons This is just across the wire. Yes, just
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: got a three year deal seventy five million dollars. Right,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: they're not giving him two point six million dollars a
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: year and the rest of it gonna get paid after
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: his playing days are old like that. That's not a
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: thing with other sports like it is Major League base
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: You're right, I mean, what did we just celebrate last exactly?
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: And now let me just think for the next I
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: don't know, twenty years, there's gonna be show hal tany day,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Freddy Freedan day, yeah, Mac Will Smith day. I mean
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: they're all gonna have Will Smith has to day. Yeah.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Really he's getting deferred for him. Yeah, Okay, they literally,
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: like ten of their guys on their roster are getting
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: deferred payments. Ta Oscar Hernandez has two deals, two separate deals,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: or he's getting deferred payouts.
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: Well, it's just gonna the fans are gonna just say
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: screw it. If you're not a fan of the teams
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: I just mentioned, then they're gonna say, why do I
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: even support this team?
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: We're never gonna win. And that's I'm getting to that
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: point too. It's like will the reds ever wine do
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: they do they make the World Series again, maybe once
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: every forty years, maybe and just have a fluke season.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Maybe My rais are the same way. It's like, come on, man,
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: it's just it makes it unappealing just telling you.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Yeah. By the way, so Will Smith got fifty million deferred. Wow,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: so he's going to be getting payments from two thousand
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: and thirty four to two thousand and forty three. Good
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: for him. That's insane, Okay.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: One person said, Scoots, these so called small market teams
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: have the money to spend if they want. There's no
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: way that these owners would stay in the leagues if
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: it wasn't profitable for them.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Not that some but not much. So.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: I I just it's just it's just shame. But anyway,
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: I want to get back to this question before we
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: end today. One person said, is there a game on
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: Kentucky's schedule this year that if they win you could
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: chalk you would chalk it up as a successful season
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: for Stein's.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: First I say yes, I mean there's several. Right, all right,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: so let's let's go through the list.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: Uh, It's it's not going to be Youngstown State, it's
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: not going to be South Alabama, and it's not going
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: to be the.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: Well, that's it. I mean, that's it, all right?
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: So, uh, is it gonna be Alabama, Texas A and M,
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: South Carolina, LSU, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Florida, Missouri or U
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: of L. I'm not gonna say it's you. There have
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: been times the past few years you could say Stoops
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: beating U of L not only saved the season, it
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: saved his job. All Right, That's not gonna happen anymore.
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: I really believe that if UK there's two games I'm
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: highlighting for this question alone, and I'm gonna say, if
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: it's Texas A and M, you could almost throw three
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: games in there. Texas A and M at College Station,
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: LSU and Lexington and our Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Those
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: are the three games.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: I say.
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: Okay, If UK will Stein goes to these teams and
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: plays them and beats them, then I'm like, yeah, that's
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: a successful season.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: What do you think My first two were at Texas
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: A and M and then at Tennessee. Both of those games.
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: But honestly, my real answer to this question might surprise you.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: It's that game at South Carolina. Because you're at a
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: point now in the SEC with a brand new coach.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: You have got to start proving year after year after
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: year that Kentucky has a better program than South Carolina.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: That's that is, it's down to South Carolina and Kentucky
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: every year, right, and so one of those teams has
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: to prove that they're better than the other. And if
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: Kentucky can do that consistently starting with this year, I
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: think that goes a long way for will Stein and
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: his coaching days that you get.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: See, I can't disagree with that as much as I
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: would like to see it as an upset. But ah man,
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: you're everything you just said is spot on.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: I mean, there's there's three teams in the SEC that
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: I think are the exact same, and you can disagree
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: with me if you'd like, But it's Kentucky, it's South Carolina,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: and it's Missouri. All three of those are carbon copies
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: of one another. So if you can prove that you
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: are head and shoulders above those other two teams and
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: you can become that next tier type team, I think that,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Like I said, I think that goes bodes well for Stein.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: And you know, it's interesting, you didn't even say Vanderbilt
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: right there. I think Vanderbilt's already climbed into that. I
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: think so too, exactly because they're raising the money. They've
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: got a brand new stadium, well, a renovated stadium, and
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: they got Clark Lee is an exciting coach. You keep
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: telling me I'm a Vanderbilt fan. I'm not, but I
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: gotta support him a little bit because my wife went
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: there and my son went there. So but no, I'm
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: not a Vanderbilt fan. But clark Lee has it going
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: on down there. He's exciting. I'm hoping will Stein is
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: the next Clark Lee and beyond. Honestly, I don't want
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: him to just be stuck at Clarklee. I want I
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: think it's important that we do get to the middle
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: tier from there. Clark Lee's not stuck at clark Well.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I think he's still elevating as well. Absolutely, he's elevating.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: And but but I look at you know, we've beaten
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: Florida several times, We've beaten Uh. It'd be nice if
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: we could beat Tennessee on a regular basis. Now, that's
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: when you know you're building a program, when you start
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: beating the likes of Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and South Carolina
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: are given and you get down out of that bottom echelon.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: You get to the middle, and then you've got room
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: to work. So if he's if will Stein next year
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: or the year after is in the middle of the
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: pack in the SEC, I'm like, Okay, we're improving.
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: Now, you're moving up. You've got excitement going on. Recruits
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: are really starting to pay attention to you.
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: Now. You can't get to that upper echelon within the SEC.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Jamie agrees on Texa, and he says Stut's couldn't agree more.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: UK had to be above the tier of South Carolina,
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: Mississippi State, Missouri, and Vandy, So he includes Vandy in that. Yeah,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: but I think Vandy's a stepping it. He also said
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: maybe these players need to call Jay Jay Whitworth. It's
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: my money and I want my That's another one that
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: really sticks out of it as far as a commercial. Yeah,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: I know when the big Viking guy, Oh yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: All right, we gotta go everybody tomorrow. I want to
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: get to a story. You might be jealous about it.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: What happened at a particular place up in Boston. We'll
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: talk about that, but uh, tomorrow because it's one of
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: your favorite performers. I don't know if you saw this,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: all right, I don't know what you're talking about. Good good.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: You cannot look it up. Please, don't look it up.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: I want it to be yeah, and we'll do cross Dog.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: So I'm sorry I missed it. Oh, come on, don't
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: give me that crap. Anyway, everybody have a great day.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: I appreciate it. I appreciate you. Listen and we'll see
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: you tomorrow. I'm just Agains
