- 1:02The Voice of Irving Geek, the podcast where we discussed geek and pop culture
- 1:06from the perspective of people of calore. And it's always sitting in the Captain's
- 1:12chair quite reluctantly. Tonight, it's your boy, Chris Ratting the Rock A
- 1:18ka DJ B. I mean I shouldn't start with DJ, but I mean,
- 1:21I guess we're getting right into Chris Ratting Rock, Quantum Leach, a
- 1:23Baby Matts, John Wicky with the Blicky Black Black Goliath Yolo Baggins here Tonight's
- 1:32Yolo Baggins is right boy, because yeah, you only love once. And
- 1:36I had to sit through three hours await last night. But joining me in
- 1:42the Coke Captain's chair is Tatiana King aka Tatiana King the Conqueror to Chola Bredick
- 1:49a doc Acky aka Lambo colarizi a ka Flex Bluthor aka Mulatto High Tower.
- 1:55And I don't have any John Wick related aka the Best. Probably this is
- 2:01nobody. I mean, I don't know, you know, this is nobody.
- 2:04I don't know. I was also thinking of Whiston, not Duke.
- 2:07I don't know. I don't know. Maybe that might work a little bit,
- 2:10but I don't. I can't think of this this series. There's so
- 2:15much going on with this series. Man, here's the thing, Ben.
- 2:19We did see John Wick, and this is what this movie will be about.
- 2:22Yeah, you have some words I do? Yeah, let me let
- 2:25me start off. Um, we did get to see John Wick four.
- 2:30For those who follow me on Twitter at dj Ben, I mean you might
- 2:34have seen I want to see ye. This was last week. Now,
- 2:38I had a tweet where I said that John Wick might be the main I
- 2:42said, did anyone ever think to themselves that John Wick might be the main
- 2:45feeling of the series and a complete psychopath. And I got, as they
- 2:51say on Twitter, uh, I don't want to say canceled, but um
- 2:55no ratio ratio. I definitely got ratio ratio. I think I don't know
- 3:00if it got it up to six hundred, but six hundred Okay, well
- 3:04there was over six hundred tweets to your tweets. Yeah, and so you
- 3:10were definitely railed. I'll definitely ratiled. And people had various opinions on it.
- 3:15You know, most people disagreed heavily. People. I learned that people
- 3:20definitely have an attachment to this series that I did not know. I mean,
- 3:23I guess I should understood that we're on the fourth one. Now.
- 3:27I've seen them all, you know, I've enjoyed them all to various degrees.
- 3:31I've had this idea about John Wick since I saw the first one.
- 3:35About halfway through the first one, I was like, Okay, this man's
- 3:38a psychopath, you know. And I still hold firm to that, you
- 3:42know, statement, Like I guess, as Ti Towner said, the main
- 3:46villain part of it might have thrown people off, and also even calling Wick
- 3:50a psychopath might throw people off because there's this attachment to John Wick, because
- 3:53there's an attachment to Keanu Reeves, let's all be honest about it. And
- 3:58because of that attachment to Kana, which throws back very long for a lot
- 4:01of people, including myself. You know, yeah, I go back to
- 4:04Bill and Ted Z. That's an eventure I love to do, you know
- 4:06what I mean. He's one of my favorite actors, am not because he's
- 4:11the greatest actor, just because Keiana is awesome, you know, I mean,
- 4:14he's an awesome dude in real life. You know, he's played iconic
- 4:15characters as well as Bill and Ted you know, Neo now John Wick?
- 4:20Um, oh shit, point break, come on, left me forget like
- 4:24this, dude's done it. You know. I love Kiana, I mean
- 4:27and even in the more recent generations, like just even in the two thousands,
- 4:30like his most prolific has been The Matrix and John Nick. Yeah,
- 4:34and he's just a lovable person in real life. So when you combine that
- 4:41that prolificness as well as the general agreeability to who he is as a person,
- 4:46you're going to get some fierce representation. Um, you know, to
- 4:50defend their Night the Night of Keanu Reeves and you know, um, I
- 4:55can't say I felt bad when I saw that the tweets against because man,
- 4:59I mean, first of all, better mean wasn't taking out seriously whatsoever?
- 5:02He said. He shared that statement with me privately, and I was like,
- 5:05oh, this is interesting taking. I laughed about it and kept the
- 5:09pushing. He said, I'm gonna post this, and I just did not
- 5:12expect that type of response. Now, as he said, I think it
- 5:16was your your message was could have been delivered differently for people to get your
- 5:21point and maybe talk to you with more sense as opposed. You've never seen
- 5:30these rooms, don't you understand? The Lord? What? Lord along?
- 5:38And I am a fan of the John Wick series, and I'm a fan
- 5:41to a point, and they're also completely making it up as they go along.
- 5:45Anyone can go to the Wikipedia and right there they say they did not
- 5:47know there would be a sequel when they did the first one. They had
- 5:50no clue. Even in this one, there's a lot of lore made up.
- 5:55They really contradicted some shit that was done in the first three that really
- 5:58would have solved the first three a lot earlier and would not have had this
- 6:02man be the psychopathic rampage that he's drawn on. But back to that point,
- 6:05I'm gonna go back to that and say that I still stand by that
- 6:09because John Wick made a serious choice, right fam I get it. The
- 6:16dog is given to him by his dying wife. His dying wife obviously knew
- 6:19what a monster this man, what life he'd led up until that point.
- 6:24She gave him the dog so when she died, you know, the man
- 6:27would have something to remember her by and to remember you don't have to go
- 6:30back to that monstrous life that you led before. The dog gets killed,
- 6:34and instead of doing all multitude of things, the man goes right back to
- 6:39the monsters, saying he lived before. So it's like, not only does
- 6:42he deny his wife's final wishes by doing this, he confirms what I said
- 6:47of being kind of a sociopath who goes on a psychopathic rampage because his dog
- 6:51was killed, You're not You're not wrong. I also have to ask,
- 6:58though, like, as someone who has been yes he's been in that life,
- 7:01and yes he he's been. I mean he was raised by the Russians,
- 7:04someone who like explicitly was like, leave me the fuck alone. And
- 7:09people would not leave him the fuck alone. Do he He don't and maybe
- 7:13not that way, but he don't have a right to retaliate, Like he
- 7:15said explicitly, leave me the fuck alone. But once the dog was killed,
- 7:20he did not say leave me the funk alone. He went on a
- 7:23ramping. Well, well, yeah, because they can't they And I think
- 7:26that was the That was the other argument people were saying to you, like
- 7:28which I understood, Like they were like, you're saying, oh, well,
- 7:30because they came in. He okay, they kills dogs were supposed to
- 7:33just lay down and say, all right, well shit, I wish you
- 7:35guys would go away. I wish this would end now, like like it's
- 7:39was he supposed to say that? Or like what was he supposed to do?
- 7:41Like if that's how he knows, that's how he does conflict resolution.
- 7:45You guys brought a conflict to my door. I'm gonna resolve it in the
- 7:48way that I know. And I got that in the world of this universe
- 7:55not so much, right, I do say. I My thing with it
- 7:59is that, Okay, It's like I grew up on movies like Commando,
- 8:01Arnold Schwartzenigger. It's a classic right, his daughter gets taken by a dude
- 8:07he used to fuck with, another Secret Service special agent, and all the
- 8:09Schwartzenegger goes on a goddamn rampage to get his daughter back and kills I don't
- 8:13know how many feeling people in this movie through various ways. It's amazing.
- 8:18It's one of my favorite movies. You know, man survives everything and murders
- 8:22everyone, gets the daughter back, flies off at the end. Right,
- 8:26great, Now, if you did that four times in a row, I'd
- 8:31be like, yo, dog, this man got issues family's doing beyond just
- 8:35you know, getting your daughter back. Other argument was, okay, you
- 8:37can't say that. What you say, Well, how he's reacted about the
- 8:39dog, Maybe he didn't have to react so aggro. But then all right,
- 8:43then it's done. But then the next time he legitimately was trying to
- 8:46get out and they wouldn't let the ending out. And then again like,
- 8:48how is he He's not supposed to go aggro? He said, leave me
- 8:52the fuck alone, and people continue to not leave him alone. He also
- 8:56had the choice to not kill the dude in the hotel, thus setting the
- 8:58whole table against him. He could have Yeah, that was a choice and
- 9:03that you know, and doing after them from the first jump, Yes was
- 9:09a choice. Yes, he could have just been like, I gotta get
- 9:13another dog. My dead wife did not want me to do this. Been
- 9:18You're not wrong. Yeah, you know, that's that's the part. You
- 9:22know that, that's the part. Instead, I'm going to murder a bunch
- 9:24of people. And in this universe, like and that was the other thing.
- 9:26It's like in the first one, John Wick, the universe seems to
- 9:30be there's a lot of assassins, but there's still normal people in it.
- 9:33As this seems to go on, As this seems to go on, it's
- 9:37like they've forgotten that and there is nothing but assassins. There's nothing but assassins.
- 9:43And and that's and that's too on purpose. And you said, you're
- 9:45about to probably say it, there's a reason why there's nothing but assassins.
- 9:48I want to omanize it, to make it easy for you to watch thousands
- 9:54of people be killed back to back to back, right because they all signed
- 9:58up for this. And that's where I start having an issue, because it
- 10:01becomes one. It just like in the first one, it was cool,
- 10:05It's like, Okay, there's some assassins and the rest of the world just
- 10:07doesn't know about the secret society. Now it feels like everyone's an assassin or
- 10:13everyone is just completely ignoring all the murder and mayhem that is going on around
- 10:18them constantly. Sounds like the whole world is made of assassins. No one
- 10:24has any fighting right now then, I mean they're outside the goddamn stupe like
- 10:28fight. It's an assassin like everyone, there's no other job in this world.
- 10:33Kill each other. And like you said, that's that's the that's literally
- 10:39the patronage of assassin. Kill each other. There ain't no cooks, there
- 10:41ain't no trash men, there ain't nothing like they don't play the bells.
- 10:48Assassinations pays the mortgage, and it obviously doesn't because these cats did body by.
- 10:58But listen there, this is listen. Okay, all right, nay,
- 11:01let's let's talk. Let's let's start going into the film like we're giving
- 11:05the high levels of st We gotta get into that later, but come on,
- 11:11go ahead. What's your one thing else than you want to say before
- 11:13we get into the film. Um No, I didn't, But I just
- 11:18want to say one last thing about that dehumanization, because that is one of
- 11:22the big problems of this thing is that the fact that we are watching people
- 11:26get double tapped by the thousands at this point, it becomes with it.
- 11:33I don't know. Desensitized is one thing. And I, like I said,
- 11:39I'm a person who grew up on every violent thing in the world,
- 11:41right. But at the same and I do believe that in some instances violence
- 11:46is you know, how it gotta go down. I believe in I believe
- 11:50in the arm resistance, you know, when it comes to it. But
- 11:52I do not who man, just believe in the dehumanization of people. You
- 11:58know, of humans. I do not believe in dogs. So what fucking
- 12:01humans? Man, I don't believe get some real stuff. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:07I hear you. And it gets a little wild watching this film in
- 12:11a theater when people are cheering for the deaths of people and then cheering you
- 12:15know, like when a dog is saved but a person gets shot in the
- 12:18face over it is it more so the volume of death that you see.
- 12:24And that's why this is such a thing, And because it's so there's no
- 12:28all right, That's the other thing. Like people will talk about John win
- 12:30successes. Like one of my favorite series right now is a Barry on HBO.
- 12:33It's about an assassin who's trying to get out of life, and it
- 12:35shows you what killing does to a person, you know, what doing Yeah,
- 12:41the psychological impacts. I'm doing violence upon other people. My other favorite
- 12:46film, one of my favorite films from last year. It's a film Baby
- 12:48Assassins. It's a foreign film and it's about a world like John Wick,
- 12:52where there's a bunch of assassins, you know, but it's still normal world
- 12:56as well, but there's like, you know, an assassins. The cooks
- 12:58there, yeah, yeah, it's cooks and everything. And it's about these
- 13:01two young women who have just graduated from assassin school and are told they have
- 13:05to get a normal job as well as the assassins. And it shows that
- 13:09sociopaths who are murderers really can't function in a normal society, you know.
- 13:16And so that's what I feel like John Wick does. It's a very nihilistic
- 13:20view of life, where it's like people die, you know whatever, you
- 13:22know, niggas die every day, be but it doesn't show you the impact
- 13:26of something like that, and that is really problematic to me because when you
- 13:31have people growing up watching such a nihilistic view of life. Who Man,
- 13:35I don't know, Man, I worry you know, is that your thought
- 13:41process on this is interesting because is this more a lamentation of where the series
- 13:43could have went, or more of a life or no longer accepting like this
- 13:50has kind of been where they were steering this series in the first place.
- 13:54Like it was never meant to be an interrogation of like on a baby of
- 14:01psyche or interrogation like it was never mentally how many niggas can get shot?
- 14:07And creatively can I get these kills? But I don't even think it was
- 14:11that. That's my other issue with John Wick. I've never thought it was
- 14:13creative how he did I would agree with you, Yeah, how he gets
- 14:18these chills are unsuperuncreative. It's yeah, tumble over you, shoot you in
- 14:22the face, double tap, tumble over you, double tap, pull you
- 14:26down, double tap, use you as your shield, double tap your man,
- 14:28double tap you. You know, it is like the same thing over
- 14:31and over again. Commando on the surs and Nigga goes into a shed of
- 14:35tools and starts phoning buzz saw blades and people like with his hands, you
- 14:39know what I mean, lops off of people inside of dude's head. You
- 14:43know, that's what I'm talking about. That's creative kills, like, that's
- 14:46what I go for. And he makes jokes throughout the whole thing. John
- 14:50Wick ain't even got no jokes, you know what I mean. It's just
- 14:52double tap, double tap, double tap. That's serious business man, But
- 14:56answering phones in the middle of battle, like I know, I know,
- 15:07And that's and that's and that's how we're gonna get into this film because I
- 15:11don't believe the John Wick series is meant to be that series. It's I
- 15:15don't even think. I think people do. But that's not the point though,
- 15:20the point of this film as much as again that you're not wrong and
- 15:24the things you're saying, I still think they John Wick knows what it is.
- 15:30They deliver what the people want. And you made a comment to me
- 15:33and also online that you were disturbed by the way people were reacting, behaving,
- 15:39cheering on that stuff. However, this film and this series has consistently
- 15:43delivered what people wanted to see, mindless death from beloved Bobby IgA. That's
- 15:52all the people you want to see. That's what I came that's what I
- 15:54signed up for. And I got that, and I was very I was
- 15:58pleased in that way. Was this this this movie made me think? Did
- 16:03this give me the existential crisis of thought? Absolutely not. I was just
- 16:08like, what is the fucking killcount's gonna be? Like? How many fucking
- 16:12bodies in the first thirty seconds? What the fuck is up right? And
- 16:17then it was like, oh, okay, how brutal can you be?
- 16:18And that's the only reason people go to see these John Wick films. For
- 16:22people running there talking about mythos, you're fucking lying. For people running they're
- 16:26talking about the style points, you're fucking lying. You're fucking see coming there
- 16:30to see brutal, fucking kills from Keyama fucking reads because you love that nigga,
- 16:34And that is okay, let's tell the truth. That's what this film
- 16:38is. You get more of that, You get that fourth quadruple times because
- 16:44it's the fourth goddamn chapter, and that's what you're here for, Okay.
- 16:48You get to see that globe hopping they in where they they in like three
- 16:52four different countries in this film. They in New York, they in Germany,
- 16:56They in France, right, they someplace else? Maybe one other place?
- 17:03Ye like yeah, they were in France. I really can I could
- 17:07not fathom anyone like seriously telling me something on a serious tip of why they're
- 17:14coming to watch this film. Oh, I'm going to CD the way its
- 17:18structured in the thought of mind and peace and balance. No, my nigga,
- 17:22you kind of see some fucking ca Thomas and guns, Like, let's
- 17:25be for real, be fucking for real, that's what this is. Yeah,
- 17:30But and that was that's all. I mean, that was It was
- 17:33very interesting to me, how seriously some of these six hundred plus people took
- 17:37it because they were definitely talking about the lore and I didn't understand the world
- 17:41it's in and nine man man and and I'm like, god, the man
- 17:45at the end of three gets shot by his man's the owner of the hotel
- 17:49falls off the roof hilariously, Winston hit hits like several harps on the way
- 17:56down and it lands on the concrete. I mean, this is like a
- 18:00good six seven eight story drop and somehow survives. So you know, at
- 18:06that point, I'm like, Okay, we're watching a ridiculous superhero. It's
- 18:07fast and the Furious type action, which I don't mind as well, but
- 18:11like you said, I'm not sure which way this series takes it, because
- 18:15Fast and Furious is not going to have people getting double tapped and blood splattering
- 18:18out of them over and over again. Like this is a very serious grip
- 18:25who it is violence and I feel like we man like and I'm not saying,
- 18:32and then because I'm not saying because that's what I seek out in my
- 18:33life, I don't think out gratuit is violence. Just in this specific series.
- 18:37I was like, I think John Wick is a badass, and I
- 18:41like seeing him do gratuitous shit to other people. I want to see that
- 18:45shit. I just wish it would. I don't know a lot not wish.
- 18:48I guess I've expected one variety. I'm just because of the action that
- 18:55I've that I've seen in my life, you know, in action films.
- 18:57I think that this one, like since we're talking about this one in particular,
- 19:03was lacking in terms of action. It did not like I've just seen
- 19:08so much better, you know, especially when you're talking about this genre like
- 19:12the gun food whatever you want to call it, Like people talk about food.
- 19:17Yeah, how John Wick introduced a new style and I'll give it like
- 19:21it brought the arm that was with that was Christian Bell and somebody what was
- 19:26it, well, gun food. That's an equilibrium or whatever. Yeah,
- 19:29equilibrium. But even before that, I go back to like the early John
- 19:33Wu films like The Killer and Hard Boiled, Hard Boiled especially, which is
- 19:37straight up you know, people fighting in close quarters, jumping over each other,
- 19:41shooting guns, and I mean Hard Boiled is iconic levels of action,
- 19:45you know. And then you go back to the Jackie Chan joins, the
- 19:47Michelle Yo joined Super Cop, you know with Jackie Chan, Like that's early
- 19:52ship and even more recent stuff like The Raid and The Raid too. It's
- 19:56like these Yeah, and I'm glad you said I'm gonna I'm gonna piggyback off
- 20:00that because the things about those classic films that you're mentioning, there is an
- 20:03elegance there. This is very brute force and and and it's prituitous. They
- 20:12can get repetitive. And even though I still enjoyed myself, I will agree
- 20:17with you that it wasn't as creative as things I've seen about, like a
- 20:21lot of foreign films you mentioned, like I've seen it. I'm like,
- 20:23oh my god, look at shit. Like again, completely different genre and
- 20:26approach. The Triple R like the ship. I've seen the takedowns, I've
- 20:30seen it on that I was blown away. And I'm just saying like a
- 20:34lot of the things that we watched and John wickfor we've seen before. We've
- 20:37seen and you said you've seen it done better than elsewhere. But my point
- 20:41is you've seen it before. There was nothing particularly creative in terms of the
- 20:45ways people were killed. Now were there things that particularly brutal. Sure,
- 20:51where there's something brand new, not necessarily, but it was particularly brutal.
- 20:56And I think that's also one of the reasons people go because they want to
- 20:59see how brute who can you go? How loud can the pop be?
- 21:03How loud can it slam against the marble floor be of somebody's fucking nagging,
- 21:07you know what I'm saying. So I think it's like sometimes people are watching
- 21:11them like how far are they gonna really go? Not so much is how
- 21:15elegant and and well thought out and contemplative this is. That's not why they're
- 21:21here. But again, just going back to what I had just said about
- 21:23the elegantness of like you said, stuff like Supercop and stuff like that,
- 21:27Like John Wickford was directed by the guy who directed the first one, chad'st
- 21:32Healski, and I found out that Chad had his whole history is being a
- 21:36stuntman. And that's when the light bulbs went off for me. I was
- 21:40like, now it makes sense just and and and particularly in the way John
- 21:47Wickford has been choreographed because it's long number one, it's a long movie.
- 21:52Flowers forty right something around there. And for me personally, I saw the
- 22:00choreography. That's and I want to make that point, which is why I
- 22:03remember I said a few moments ago, like the classic from Ben mentioned had
- 22:06a lot of elegance to them. There is in this overt in elegance in
- 22:11John Wickford. And perhaps that's just a that's just because John wick himself is
- 22:17not an elegant guy. Like he's just very literally throwing his gun at you
- 22:21fifty times. But to see it over and over again and very just heavy
- 22:29footed, heavy handed, this looks like a choreographed scene. It's you I
- 22:38And from that perspective, that's when I hear you've been when I'm like,
- 22:42Okay, this can be done better. Yes, And just as far as
- 22:48like even in terms of like you were you were talking about Triple R and
- 22:52you know, we talk about the old trends had the super coop and everything.
- 22:55It's just there's a variety to the action there is, like with stunts
- 23:00or something even more recent like the Mission Impossible series, where it's like they're
- 23:04already you know. This one definitely felt like the first one. It's funny
- 23:08you say that it was directed by the same dude because it felt like the
- 23:11first one where that was the vibe I got from the first one. It
- 23:14was like, Okay, this is a very video game esque movie. John
- 23:17Wick is just moving through levels like it's different color levels and they have different
- 23:21colored enemies on every level for him to shoot. And that's how this one
- 23:25felt. It was like, Okay, here's the black suited dudes in this
- 23:26level, in this room, here's the black suited dudes on the roof.
- 23:30He got past them. Dudes. Now it's these dudes, but those way
- 23:33it felt very like super hot, like you were just hot levels. Yeah,
- 23:37And it was that wave after wave, wave after wave, and that
- 23:41was just how the first one was. And that's why I didn't even in
- 23:45the first one. I got kind of bored because it was just like,
- 23:47Okay, this is repetitive. He's trying to walk through another room. He's
- 23:51trying to wrestle some dudes. He's trying to double tap some more dudes.
- 23:53Owned now the dude's drop body armors, so he got a double tap him
- 23:56four times instead. You know they're gonna keep coming and going. That was
- 24:00inconsistent, but we'll get into that. And he did that, and I
- 24:03mean that was in the first one. It was the same thing. And
- 24:04it's like, this is like the first one and this one of the ones
- 24:07I remember the most, the third one with Hallie. It's like, I
- 24:10remember Hallie and the dogs. I thought that was seeing out that was creative
- 24:14as fun to me because I had never really seen shit that where they really
- 24:17incorporated dog shot when like Wick goes over the table and the dog goes under
- 24:22the table thing and nig got lose my shit every time. That ship was
- 24:26so fire and it was and it was that, and it was that fire
- 24:30flame that I still held with me all these years waiting on the sequel.
- 24:34So when I was just like, oh yeah, and that's remember I had
- 24:37said that maybe online a few times, I was like, I came to
- 24:41see John before because I want to see how they gonna topp themselves? Because
- 24:44three really was that girl? And then you know this, I was like,
- 24:48okay, like I I still got the from the as as the for
- 24:52me the John Wick series that was that girl. Yeah it had they had
- 24:56to like the dog ship was so fire. But then it all set him
- 24:59falling off the roof of day around like whatever, I mean, this is
- 25:02what and this is what the fos moment here too, But every every episode,
- 25:06every chapter has had that what the fuck? So I just like the
- 25:11most new ship in this fire ship and yes, Hallie was it three?
- 25:15And I was like, all right, they don't really top this shit.
- 25:17They're gonna they're gonna go off on the phone. No the degrees was it
- 25:23like anything imaginative? Not necessarily? No? All right, um, you
- 25:30know how we do. Let's talk about some things that we did, like
- 25:32because I feel like we have already thought about something reading like and it's more
- 25:34the bat. I thought it was pretty, you know, beautiful gowns,
- 25:37you know, nice dress like everything. You know, every location beautiful.
- 25:44Um, you know from the opening in the uh they're when they're in the
- 25:48Japanese hotel, you know, when Wick goes off on the roof beautiful.
- 25:52I loved when he moved downstairs into that Samurai room or whatever with all the
- 25:57armor and the same glass windows they busting through the way he bust my man
- 26:03up against the drum. That sure was pure comedy, hilarious. Costume design,
- 26:07set design, character models, the storyboarding, game really the storyboarding,
- 26:17because the storyboarding was very apparent because of the video games part of it.
- 26:21But well done, excellent, I still very fairly and especially costuming again,
- 26:27like that's really to me, like we get the action. The imagination was
- 26:33in the costuming. The imagination is in how people look and present. The
- 26:36imagination is the feeling you get when they enter into each locale and how each
- 26:41different group looks or whether they're there that the ethnic group looks, the cultural
- 26:45group, or just the familiar group that they're part of. They each have
- 26:48their own specific signature and their own specific feeling, and this film did really
- 26:53well at that. So I'm not sure who the who the costume designer is.
- 26:56I want to look that up, but I give kudos to them.
- 27:00They did excellent job. As I said in the set design, excellent job,
- 27:03excellent, excellent job. I always love that about the wid series because
- 27:06they're always in these weird locations where it's like they shouldn't be, but because
- 27:10they're the ultra rich, ultra powerful people. Like they was in the fucking
- 27:14Hutson Yards in New York, like in in some random fucking building with with
- 27:18the with the edge, you know, the edge platform shit like in there
- 27:22in this room that like you said, you're not supposed to be here right
- 27:23now, and they had they had like a cemetery on the piers. You
- 27:26know who has that? You know? But this is that universe, So
- 27:30that's how it goes down. It's always love that type of stuff to a
- 27:34point because it's also we'll get into that about you know, the money is
- 27:38funny in these in this film especially, just felt like avatar giving avatar economics,
- 27:47an avatar economics for real. But um, I did love the villain.
- 27:51I can't remember the actor's name. Oh that's a star star brother brother,
- 27:56yes, brothers, the rest of the guard I thought they had two
- 28:00aids in their name. Oh no, there's only one. There's only one.
- 28:03Yeah, there's only one. Stars Gyard family just like Eric Northman's little
- 28:07brother. Yep, they are that is all you know. They run But
- 28:12yeah, they run the damn damn so yeah yeah stars guard Um, I
- 28:18loved his outfits. That I'm saying the cousin design his fits was on point.
- 28:25This nigga is of john Wick. Yes, shiny soup man times eleven
- 28:33million. That man ship was blinging brilliance. Ra No he I yeah.
- 28:40That that continues into what I said about the way it looked. It's still
- 28:44a slick look in terms of the film. People still look cool and that's
- 28:48part and that's that's again that that's the DNA for me comes keano of like
- 28:52the Matrix. Niggas look cool when they plugged in, right, that's your
- 28:56that's your hersna her acting onto your character model. And the people who who
- 29:03write and direct this clearly feel that same when it always when it's come to
- 29:07john Wick. Nigga's got a look cool. My suit is has made the
- 29:11fucking kevlar fibers that I can lift it up and sill myself from a point
- 29:18blank range blast of dragonfire. That's the stuff you get in john Wick for
- 29:25and also with that it Um, I'm sorry, I was just like it's
- 29:34absurd, but I mean, you love it. The absurdity you have to
- 29:38fucking love that that was the point, some people have surmised, or you
- 29:41know, there's an internet idea that John Wick takes place in the matrix,
- 29:47which would make everything make complete sense, like the lack of physics and yeah,
- 29:53the lack of reality. Let's be real. Yeah, yeah, I
- 29:56can see that. In this movie. At one point, a large man
- 30:00get shot him the ass and then turns around and starts delivering high kicks like
- 30:04nothing happened to him. Minutes before that, john Wick himself falls at least
- 30:10fifty feet, slams his body into several things on the way down, and
- 30:15like nothing happened. Often Keano's falling off of shit and falling like force trauma
- 30:22on his body time and time again, he would be dead instantly, you
- 30:26know, like he would have been dead from the first hotel fall. But
- 30:30in this movie, there are two separate falls that would have killed this man
- 30:33instant instantly, And he gets up and walks away and continues battling. Actually
- 30:38three, because the stairs does. I'm saying, if countless times, countless
- 30:41times, yeah, he would be dead, and there aren't. And again,
- 30:47maybe it's meant to be funny. I think there's some scenes that I
- 30:49don't know they were supposed to be funny. Man, That whole audience,
- 30:52the whole fucking audience was rolling, rolling, and I don't know it was
- 30:56meant to be funny. Again, I mean, I don't know what.
- 31:00They don't laughing, But but these are the same ones that was cheering very
- 31:03loudly at things that you were like mentality like, right, So I don't
- 31:07I don't know. Then, I just think because this these films tap into
- 31:11the the the id part, the reptilian part of the brain where it's just
- 31:15like violence in Mayhem, you know what I'm saying, Like it's it's it's
- 31:19and and and it's still and it triggers that that that point that that cortisome
- 31:23point and cortisol whatever the the whatever the the kinmicool is that that gets you
- 31:30hype. Some of them said that because a lot of people in their daily
- 31:36lives cannot, you know, go through a lot of bullshit, that they
- 31:38cannot lash out against John Wicks that idea, well, this is what I
- 31:42if I could do it, that's how I do it, you know,
- 31:47which also worried, Well, you shouldn't worry, because you know why,
- 31:52because that sounds like America. Yes, and that's like how America is and
- 31:56how America operates and everything we see on a literal weekly basis. I wish
- 32:00I could do something about it. Well, I'm gonna do something about it.
- 32:02And I have a gun. And that is why I, you know,
- 32:06have somewhat of an issue with these films, especially this one. And
- 32:09um, I don't know what else to be Okay, well, no,
- 32:12I know something else that I really did like that I want to mention is
- 32:15Donnie In playing King. I mean, Donnie In is the fucking legend,
- 32:20you know, like has done everything from it Man to Rogue One. He
- 32:22is just a god of cinema, I mean, and a god of martial
- 32:27arts, a god of atching films and and and when you see him and
- 32:30even hero Yuki Sonata because he's pay like when you see them both in these
- 32:37fighting scenes. You remember how I said about elegance, right, And granted
- 32:43this is purposeful because these are different people, different characters, so they have
- 32:45different fighting styles. You're just gonna see different but it's just even delivery of
- 32:50it. It's just a market difference where you're just like that's a stunt man
- 32:53and that's the nigga that knows what the fuck he's doing, right, And
- 32:55that's what you see with Donnieanne. That's what you see with Yuki and some
- 32:59other people who like show out in the film, Like you can very much
- 33:02tell who knows the shit. Yeah, and Donnie and is one of those
- 33:07dudes who has been doing his own stunts all his life, you know,
- 33:09and that's what he does all his fighting scenes. You know, it's always
- 33:13like the clean, so cool. It was like he was like half drunken
- 33:16master, half lunch one like half like he was. He was doing like
- 33:22mad style, four or five different styles at once. Like I was like,
- 33:24this shit is insane. Yeah, his blind style using tech. There's
- 33:29a lot of dopeness to his character. I love Kane. I love his
- 33:32whole arc in the film. I thought he had, you know, probably
- 33:36the dopest story, probably the most purposeful story out of John With to me,
- 33:40like I could actually identify with his need to do what he had to
- 33:44do. I you know, I never could. I'm sorry, but what
- 33:46came right away, I was like, I feel, you bro, murder
- 33:50anybody in your path, you know, do what you gotta do. Fam
- 33:52you know what I mean. I feel you fam like look, yeah,
- 33:55so that was dope um, dopest fuck um. I like, like I
- 34:01said, I still at the end of the day, I still like the
- 34:04cast, like everyone fit the Bill, Like remember Bill Skarsgar did a great
- 34:08villain with a purpose. Yeah, it all comes down to ego. But
- 34:12at the end of the day, he still had a purpose and he looked
- 34:14cool. Lawrence Frisch Uncle, you know, Uncle Morpheus should have been there
- 34:19longer. Yeah, maybe more of that and he kind of Yeah, especially
- 34:24after the end of three, because at the end of three, I figured
- 34:27it was Morpheus, Morphs and Morphus and Neo again alongside American gods. No,
- 34:34Winston is the guy. Winston is the number two, so that's why
- 34:37you see. But they were all teaming up at the end of three to
- 34:40take down the hot table. That was the thing. Yeah, well yeah,
- 34:44but also because of the the Bowery King, like his character is a
- 34:50shadow type character, where like he comes, he pops out when you need
- 34:52him, and then he's you know, under the a train somewhere I don't
- 34:57know, like and the event. Again, in the context of the character,
- 35:05it makes sense that he's in and out of the shadows. You see
- 35:07him sometimes you see him not okay with that concert the movie. In the
- 35:09context of the movie, he was there to get paid off by the n
- 35:13r A. I think, but um, your boy Lance Reddick, you
- 35:17know video game vocal voice after the wire, I mean, come on man,
- 35:22yeah, yes, the wire, Yes, the obvious stuff. I'm
- 35:25just saying, you know, like I mean voice after yeah, swo on
- 35:30the low, okay, out of control? Cut up boy. That man
- 35:35he liked that what's his name the Good Place? You know, like when
- 35:38um Chitty from the Good Place took his shirt off, Oh yeah, and
- 35:43he was like, oh he's actually like yeah yeah, same same on the
- 35:46wire. I was like, god, damn man. All right, how
- 35:50did you feel about Shamir Anderson who is the tracker or also known as mister
- 35:55Nobody. All right? Um, this dab into like this gets into this
- 36:04movie racist? You know, like that that got into it. It was
- 36:07like I was, I was like, wow, um um bit in miss
- 36:12direction. There um not a good showing. Not a not a good showing.
- 36:15And once again this is movie racist. Um. Mister Nobody, at
- 36:20least from the trailers right, is a black dude with a German shepherd dog
- 36:23who was very reminiscent of Hollyberry's character from John with Three. So when I
- 36:30think me and pretty much every other black person, I okay, I don't
- 36:34want to speak for all black people are not a monolith, but when we
- 36:36saw the trailer, we were like, Okay, there must be some connection
- 36:38to house character. Why else would there be that? That's and not forget
- 36:43being black. That's the first time they maybe not the only time, of
- 36:45this, the first time they really introduced dogs to that degree, to this
- 36:50type of fighting style. So you're going to make the medic connection whether he
- 36:53was black or any other black ads to it like black ads, Yes,
- 36:58But I'm just saying if someone shows up with a godamn Jeremy Shepard, well,
- 37:00Hallie Berry had Jumper Sheer, so they're gonna do some Moe to Hallieberry.
- 37:02Shit, that's the first thing you're gonna think. You're gonna think connection.
- 37:05And yes, because in being black even more so. And this is
- 37:09a bit of a spoiler right here. Sorry, folks. I think we've
- 37:13kind of avoided most of them, but this one I feel needs to be
- 37:15distressed because I felt disrespected. There is no goddamn connection to halle Berry at
- 37:21all. And this movie is two hours and forty six minutes. And mister
- 37:25Nobody, not only for not having a connection to Holleyberry, has no connection
- 37:30to anything, and has no story, has no arc, actually does a
- 37:36lot of improbable dumb shit, you know, and really is part of the
- 37:42whole. One of my big issues with the thing is the fact that basically
- 37:47mister Nobody is yet another person trying to kill John rid for the money,
- 37:51and the price he wants to get is about twenty three million, which gets
- 37:54up on the board. You know. They have the same callers from the
- 37:58early series who are put out the calls to all the assassins out there,
- 38:02and basically niggas trying to kill this man for like twenty five mills. And
- 38:06I'm like, dog, this man has rolled through three movies of people like,
- 38:10ain't no way I'm getting out of bed for less than one hundred billies,
- 38:13you know what I mean. And this is where it gets to be,
- 38:15as we say, Avatar economics, because on Avatar, like when they
- 38:19were talking about the fucking spice or whatever it was they was taking off that
- 38:21planet, they what did they say? They said they was gonna make like
- 38:23three hundred millions something like that, something low key I said. Niggas went
- 38:28into not just space like like saper spasis were no sleep whatever seven years you
- 38:37and you're talking me, I'm only getting triple millions, Nigga, Where are
- 38:39the billies? Where are the bees? Where are the teams? Where are
- 38:43the trillions? Because you're talking about mining a whole another planet and another fucking
- 38:47system. I need trillions, not like like Lebron makes three hundred millions,
- 38:52snoring on his side, like not doing shit. So what are you talking
- 38:58about? Like talking about That's why I don't That's what like it was just
- 39:00weird economics and again like using avatar as as as if reference point for them
- 39:06to say the Baba fucking Yaga who has taken out god knows how many people
- 39:13in his lifetime, forget the three movies in his lifetime of Assassin Nationhood,
- 39:17who knows, and he is unstopable. He's falling off of everything in the
- 39:22fucking world. He doesn't shot stamb, he doesn't waiver, he doesn't bend
- 39:29twenty to twenty three million, twenty that's it, Okay, what let's say
- 39:36that that that's the price is fine, right, Nigga desperate, but fine,
- 39:40you can't find a bazooka for like, you know, one hundred k
- 39:45you know, like Hena's gonna bounce off his fucking jacket, jacket up,
- 39:51try with it. You know that that that's my problem. But I mean
- 39:52the jacket goes up. He sees in purviews like sniper rifles bombs. Homeboy,
- 39:59the tracker had a s rifle that chain work, true, but that
- 40:01nigga was an ass. So you know, you can't expect that shop to
- 40:05work, um something like Nigga's Like that was my problem with niggas. Just
- 40:09keep rolling up on this man. You know, I think, I think,
- 40:14and I gotta say, like granted, maybe that maybe, like when
- 40:17we talk about the economics, maybe that means a lot in that world,
- 40:21but you can't use that very very low number in twenty twenty three and then
- 40:24make me care about that bounty. That's not a bounty, that's that's a
- 40:30fucking you know, that's all sponsorship with Ford Ford Cars, board motors,
- 40:35Like that's nothing. That's a sponsorship focus, right, Like Nike, hell
- 40:42fucking Craft singles is paying more than that, Like come on, bro,
- 40:45like the cheese is giving me the cheese, Like don't play it with me
- 40:50in twenty millions, and like the amount of people who are like, yeah,
- 40:54fuck it, you know what I mean, Assume that car goes out.
- 40:58They're like, Oh, that's that's the number. But that's the one
- 41:00I've been waiting on. That's the one I'm like, y'all, it's the
- 41:05once again, it's the Bobby yagga. Like niggas got myths and stories about
- 41:12this nigga. He's called ya like a sloping floor. He's not on the
- 41:16calling my name my guy. When people start saying jail and nigga starts shaking
- 41:23right as soon as the nigga's dad in the first from found out who he
- 41:28fucked with, the nigga wanted to start crying, and these niggas is like
- 41:31ready to die. Nigga like Biggie out here, dog like remedy million is
- 41:36the number to make you dash all fear you've ever had of this guy.
- 41:38You know who this person is. Everyone knows, like are you dead?
- 41:43As it'd be like it'd be like, you know, okay, you can
- 41:45play Lebron James and basketball right now. If you lose, you owe me
- 41:49twenty meals. You know, Nigga's like, fucking dog, I got this.
- 41:52You know, this is a fucking dinner date with Jayson, Like why
- 41:57are we why are you making that decision? But jav said take the money,
- 42:01Like are you serious? Right now? I just saw the remake of
- 42:05House Party, which is you know, don't do you know? Being went
- 42:08through that so you don't have to. But I will say the one good
- 42:12part about it was when at the end of Dude tries to play Lebron James,
- 42:15you know, because he's in Lebron's house and he's like, yo,
- 42:17just let me play you and don't call the cops, and Lebron drops twenty
- 42:21one on the Nigga's gonna happen. And that's the one time while watching this
- 42:32film, the fourth the fourth Chapter four. But I'm just like, fam
- 42:36you and I understand without that happening will be no film. But I'm like,
- 42:38they are better ways like that, say just say fucking like, like,
- 42:44just say something. If we're gonna do outrageous things like fight the Bobby
- 42:46Yaga, give me an outrageous number that you know you're not gonna fucking paint
- 42:51me. You're literally the Marquise is a fucking snake. You can say any
- 42:54goddamn thing and take it back. Take just why nigga say a million the
- 43:00bobby, y'all go okay? Then it makes sense that everybody in a moms
- 43:02gives up to go after this nigga twenty. That's the other wild part about
- 43:07it, especially with Missing Nobody, because Missing Nobody to drop the film is
- 43:10arguing over his price and the markets like that whatever is just like, you
- 43:16know, stressing over paying this nigga, like the Marquise is obviously one of
- 43:22the kings of the game. Almost like the Marquise not have like is he
- 43:24broke? Like for him, he is stressing over he was. It was
- 43:30giving broke And I was just concerned about how much money is really in the
- 43:34Kingdom of the Assassins because it must not be a lot for people to flip
- 43:38out over there. It's obviously not a lot, right, I guess that's
- 43:42what it is. Niggas is that stressed because everybody is a is a murderer.
- 43:45So it's like, you know, if everybody's a murderer, that means
- 43:47any job can go for the low, you know what I mean. It's
- 43:50like now how I feel about DJs, Like everybody got damn DJs. Everybody'll
- 43:52do it for whatever, you know what I mean. So nigga's like,
- 43:55y'all key for five bucks, Nigga, I got written, that's you know
- 44:02what that and that would be okay with that. Had it not been the
- 44:07Bobby Yaga would have essential dollar down. No, no, no, see
- 44:10it ain't no. That's what I'm saying. Niggas is killing other niggas for
- 44:13five dollars. Yeah, when niggas put up twenty three mills, Nigga,
- 44:16I gotta go for this nigga. Niggas is killing each other for five dollars,
- 44:29you know. And and listen and granted, we're using scales of lebron
- 44:34and you know, mighty meteors. We understand it. We're giving these outrageous
- 44:38scales of stuff. But you would ya, that's outrageous. I'm saying,
- 44:44be consistent. You're giving me the most outrageous as Benami says, psychopath.
- 44:50It's like the world and twenty million. You're telling me my life is worth
- 44:53twenty million when this nigga, his kills is worth five hundred. Niggas.
- 44:59Niggas is lebronch some body and niggas like you know what I mean, you
- 45:04to die this dog like this nigga think about body and niggas in his sleep.
- 45:10Man made it like it was like a prize fight like boxing, where
- 45:14its it's like, well you lost, what you get some money? No,
- 45:16you lost, you die and you don't get no money. It's not
- 45:23the fucking powerable. That's what I like. Forget the scales of economics.
- 45:29It's just like this is not consistent with who what what you're facing? Fairwell
- 45:34with bodies, Nigga Like this nigga was like leaving so many bodies in his
- 45:37weight. Dog and it's almost like again and that is a motivator. What
- 45:42is going on? Why y'all? So goddamn you know, why is this
- 45:47so important? Because niggas is broke. That's what I'm telling you. Everybody
- 45:52is a murderer in this universe. So niggas is starved. You know what
- 45:54I mean. Everybody is desperate for money. That'sperate, that's the word.
- 45:59That spirit for money. Bro that's I mean. They are murdering people for
- 46:01five dollars, that's all. With that, life means nothing in this like
- 46:07y'all, y'all, y'all really got it. He y'all got it, and
- 46:10and and and it's probably also like this is um, but what's the afro
- 46:15Samurai? The one type of thing you know where it's like everybody's coming for
- 46:19this man constantly. He retired from the game, and they're like, who
- 46:22finding you know, and now it's like, no, he bat Now I
- 46:24gotta make my name, you know, because you know I'm out here murdering
- 46:28people for five dollars, like I gotta make my name. Dog bro,
- 46:35Listen, they're worst in terms of life, you know, Like that dude's
- 46:40not crap fiends, you know what I mean? For that body man,
- 46:45ain't no way you could get me out there for no twenty ms for John
- 46:47with no bro. Like I said, it's like playing Lebron. If somebody
- 46:51who's like right now, Ben, you play Lebron, you get twenty meal,
- 46:53you lose you old twenty meals. Nigga, I'm sitting down. I
- 46:58ain't playing that nigga. Like the nigga busting my ass the other stuff.
- 47:00I like some of the scenes. Um, there is a really cool but
- 47:06we've seen it before, but really cool overshot overhead cream. I don't know
- 47:09if that's going, but overhead scene that goes John Wick fighting through a chateau
- 47:15or a building or somewhat, and it's literally ripped out of a lot of
- 47:19first person shooters that you see where like you know, if you have the
- 47:22third person, yeah, well when you change the view, if you change
- 47:25the view to the top down, the ones that still have that, yeah,
- 47:29the top down view where they're going like room, the room, and
- 47:30like you see stuff happening all around, but they haven't reached the main character
- 47:35yet, so you'd like to see, like what's going to happen, but
- 47:37then what actually happens, like to see the impulses of people, to see
- 47:43the mistakes people making, like you see it all happening at once on screen.
- 47:45That was cool to see, Benemy said, wasn't the first time I
- 47:49seen something like that, but it was cool. And it did it twice.
- 47:52I think they did that, Detective, and it was so much Well,
- 47:57they did it twice, and then then it starts going back to what
- 48:00you were seeing earlier about Yo, they keep doing the same thing over and
- 48:02over and over again. And after a while I was like, all right,
- 48:06you've got no others of your sleeve, any other tricks, right,
- 48:08It was all right cool, Like I thought, like, for example,
- 48:10I thought that shot was gonna last longer, but you know, it just
- 48:13stopped. I was all right, cool, and then it started up again.
- 48:15I was all right, we're back here, and I was like,
- 48:16all right, like again, it's it's and and and perhaps like you know
- 48:22that that's going to the stuff that I've wavered on where it's just like this
- 48:25is cool, but then you're going on too long, and then like he's
- 48:30not really elegant and what he's doing, and it's like getting kind of tired,
- 48:36like yeah, super tired. And beyond that, the movie is super
- 48:40long for no good reason. And I realized that like ten minutes and I'm
- 48:45like, oh my god, there's so many pauses. There's so many scenes
- 48:47to just drag on. It's not that much action for two hours and forty
- 48:52six minutes, Like it is a lot of god damn talking, you know,
- 48:58and a lot of meetings and shit, like there's like, yeah,
- 49:01there's like four or five six big action sequences, but man, there's a
- 49:06lot of talking. And I mean that sounds like a lot. Ben It's
- 49:08just that I don't it's just that it's four or five those five maybe long
- 49:15sequences with lots of repetition. And maybe that's why I felt like it wasn't
- 49:19that much action because ten there's a lot of action, but it's the same
- 49:22action, same match. There. It is like we don't even have a
- 49:27really good car chase, you know, we don't like, well, it's
- 49:30not a car chase as much as it involves cars. I mean, my
- 49:32man does don'tut talking people and blast them. But like, I mean,
- 49:37there was lots of cars. There were lots of cars, and the whole
- 49:39scene was about cars are dangerous things. Yes, that was true, and
- 49:45also how much people would nor people getting bodied around them, like yeah,
- 49:49and that goes back to the stuff about like we waivered on our things that
- 49:51were just outright ridiculous, Like there were too many like NPCs that did not
- 49:57react to what was going on around them and I don't care what drug they're
- 50:00on. Yeah, it was strange. And then when they would we add
- 50:05it was like, okay, but why didn't you we act? You know,
- 50:07it was it was a very muted reaction. Versions yeah, run for
- 50:10your fucking life, and Bob Iaga and some randoms are fucking shooting up the
- 50:15place, and so it's like once again, it's everybody in Assassin, but
- 50:20that's just kind of goofy, you know, That's what I mean. It's
- 50:22like before, like even when they had that scene when common in Him are
- 50:24going through the thing and shooting each other to patch. Yeah, they're like
- 50:29using silencers and ship which is goofy, but at least it's like making the
- 50:32attempt to be like, Okay, they're not, you know, being seen
- 50:36by everyone. But in this it's like these dudes are just blasting away right
- 50:40next to people and no one pays attention, and huge crowds of used crowds
- 50:47in traffic and traffic traffic on a well that stair case that seems to be
- 50:54you know, there's some apartment buildings that's do it Like nobody noticed shit,
- 51:00and it's just like what universe? What are we watching? Is? I
- 51:05get it? But I didn't have that feeling before. This one's just like
- 51:07fuck it. No, Like they really truly treat them like old school NPCs
- 51:12that are literally just back as wallpaper, right, and no matter what you
- 51:16do they want, they won't move, they won't really run or act.
- 51:20They're going to do their animations. Because that's what I mean, literally dog
- 51:28Like once again, this movie is I feel that a lot about a lot
- 51:32of Hollywood productions. Sometimes it's like done by people who've never been in the
- 51:36places that they're showing, Like people who've never been to a club, you
- 51:39know, are showing you a club because people are dancing the way people are
- 51:45acting, it's like, oh, yeah, this is with heavens and clubs.
- 51:47No, it's not fair if you run through a club with a gun.
- 51:51I don't give a fuck what drugs people are on. I've been in
- 51:52all of them. People are going to react. As soon as you start
- 51:57running through with a gun. You know, people are going back man has
- 51:59a gun, screaming and yelling, and then everyone is trying to react.
- 52:02It's just going to happen because one person is trying to see the gun and
- 52:06it's all takes there was you know, it's just like people have not Beenity
- 52:09scenes once again are like with people who are in a different realm of money
- 52:14as well, where it's like twenty three million sounds like something people would,
- 52:16you know, kill themselves more and it's like I don't know, but the
- 52:20people don't matter in john Wick and that's why they don't react the way they
- 52:23need you think they would because meaningless it is what you know, I feel
- 52:28like this universe is about and if they really explored that, it'd be cool.
- 52:32But they don't. You know, it's like because it's not, and
- 52:35then it is, and then it's not. Like I said in the you
- 52:37know comment in them to trying to hide all the contract, it's it's a
- 52:39lot of contradictory Oh my god, dialogue and approaches, it's all contradictory.
- 52:49And then again, like I said, I didn't care. I didn't come
- 52:52there for stuff to make sense. I was just like, well, is
- 52:54he gonna use the katana to to to slice open this nigga and then pop
- 52:59them with his gun or not? Like, which, what are we doing?
- 53:01I mean he barely uses it. I mean it is straight up shoot
- 53:04shoot, yeah, he's he's a gun guy. He's here. He's very
- 53:07much a guy. And I just, like I said, my whole thing
- 53:09that that annoyed me was like, and I know that's his thing. He
- 53:13just kept throwing his goddamn gun at people, like, throw the gun at
- 53:17somebody, like it's funny, Like have we seen it in other films?
- 53:24It's funny the first time it's funny when it's like, yo, it's clear
- 53:28that he's run out of options. What else did he have in his hand?
- 53:30A gun? Fucking us that the gun itself as a weapon. Great,
- 53:34But then after literally the twelfth time you throw in your gun at somebody,
- 53:37it's like, we couldn't do this differently, you know. Um,
- 53:42so that's that. That's the only thing, like because I can't say I
- 53:45disliked it a lot of this stuff, it's just stuff that I took notice
- 53:49of, like really guy, Like, like I said, I wasn't where
- 53:52I was like this was whacked. It was more just like, you know,
- 53:57that's just how I felt about it. And then the something that I
- 54:00did feel was extremely whacked was the fact that I felt like it was a
- 54:04two hour and forty six um long in R A M. And they can't
- 54:09fault you there in a very bad way. It's like there are so many
- 54:15shots of the names of guns. People call out guns. It's gun glorification.
- 54:20It's super and if you if you like, I think it's cool,
- 54:23like you know, within reason, within reason, America has a gun problem.
- 54:28That is no, not yeah, but no, this is very much
- 54:30like like when they were even describing one of the guns for John and like
- 54:35the way your glorification the movie's literalist, but I mean it says the movie
- 54:39stops to express the love and gratitude for this particular type of gun as if
- 54:45it was a person. And I was just like, wow, that's strange
- 54:49and and this is numb for someone who like I like that shit, right,
- 54:51I like, like, I think, I think it's cool when you
- 54:53respect the weapon, when you learn about how it works, and you use
- 54:58it in control of manner. You know, I'm about gun control and shit
- 55:00like that. Okay, i might be out there in the range, but
- 55:02I'm also about gun control, So I'm not the one who'll be sitting there
- 55:06thinking that's cute. Like to me, it was just like, oh,
- 55:08that's a lot. Yeah, And I'm like I say, once again,
- 55:12someone who grew up on the eighties atch in flicks, you know where Arnold
- 55:14Soiz nigger. Every time there's a moment where he gonna go into some room
- 55:17and pull off the curtain and there's to be a million guns, and he's
- 55:21gonna go through them all, and you're gonna see them, and all they're
- 55:23gonna look all pretty and shy, this is what this one does. This
- 55:25is when this one is okay, bah blah blah, and this and there
- 55:29is that and they still have that. They have that where you see all
- 55:31the different guns and different animal and this is what this does, and then
- 55:34you get to see what is the damage that it inflicts on that person or
- 55:37thing. Great, but it's just when it come and comes, like like
- 55:42the glorification, you're really sitting there and if you are really into weaponry like
- 55:46that, then you're gonna love this, right And honestly, most of the
- 55:51stuff that we said, if this is what shit you wanted to see anyway,
- 55:52we're just you probably salivate them right now, like, oh, it's
- 55:55my ship right here. That's great. We're just saying there's going to some
- 55:59people who might have some questions, that's all. And I had some questions.
- 56:02And you know, we talked about this before on the show, like
- 56:05when we were Distrusting Black Panther, which I felt was a funny way to
- 56:07bring it up, but we talked about how Hollywood is influenced by the military
- 56:12industrial complex, you know, and how that is like all of these things
- 56:15come together and there's a lot of propaganda in these films, and that is
- 56:20one of my problems as someone who has you know, growing up on violent
- 56:22movies, etc. I've also accepted, like seen RoboCop, one of my
- 56:27favorite films back in the day. It's really kind of horrified to me now
- 56:30because RoboCop is about a fucking robot police officer. You know. It's like
- 56:35and knowing what police are about and how that movie was like, Yo,
- 56:37police are good. You know, look, the cop is doing the right
- 56:40thing. Robocops shooting people is the right way. That's a generation of kids
- 56:45who grew up who then became police officers, you know, the influences there
- 56:52and something like John Wick where it's like, you know, like people are
- 56:55like, wouldn't you do this? I'm like, no, bro, I
- 56:58wouldn't actually, But that's like, this is what it's saying. It's okay,
- 57:01somebody comes in and fucking shoot your dog. Fare fucking blow them away,
- 57:06and you know, you better have a gun just in case somebody comes
- 57:07in and shoot your dog, and you better get this done because they're gonna
- 57:10come in and shoot your dog. You're gonna be bared, you know,
- 57:13And and it's clear like that may not be the intent and that's not like
- 57:17we're not saying oh yeah, like, but there are people who really take
- 57:23this shit and the and the and the fear culture we live in where it
- 57:29encourages people to body type of guns, most people who would never need them,
- 57:32you know, because it's always like, oh, your homes, your
- 57:35home's gonna get invaded. Dogs better a fucking bullet. Yeah, does dragon's
- 57:40breath when you sh don't need that. No, you don't need any of
- 57:45this, ship really do. But the most part people, you know,
- 57:49like when you have a gun in your home, what's the like nineties and
- 57:52seventy five ninety percent time you end up shooting when of your own family members,
- 57:57well before someone ever comes to rob you. You know. That's that's
- 58:00the only thing, like the level of power that people like obsess over.
- 58:05I'm just like, I am one hundred percent sure that deer does not have
- 58:08John Wicks suit on. It cannot block those bullets. So you do not
- 58:13need that many rounds going out a second, what are you trying to bring
- 58:16down? Exactly? People? Let's be for real. You know, most
- 58:22you know, and that's what it is. And once again that goes back
- 58:24to why I have sometimes I have an issue with some of this stuff.
- 58:28And like I said, I'm not one who doesn't love action films. I
- 58:30also just think that if you're gonna do action films, do it. You
- 58:35know, you gotta do it because there is a genre. You know,
- 58:37It's like what we talked about, the zombie genre. You know, there
- 58:40is history here. Like I was trusting with somebody online the other day on
- 58:44Twitter and then like John Wick does thisten that. I'm like, bro,
- 58:46you need to see more films. He's like, I've seen all these joints
- 58:49and all names he had seen him and he's like, that's a different error.
- 58:52And I'm like, one that doesn't matter, you know, Like it
- 58:53doesn't matter what error your film came in. You gotta stand up to the
- 58:57giants. It's something came before, you see. Even more so, you
- 59:00had all the time. You know what that shit did do better Nigga's you
- 59:05know that's in the past. You got to raise the bar. Shout out
- 59:07to my brother combat Jack. You know what I mean. You always try
- 59:10to raise the bar. And I do not feel like John W four even
- 59:13raises the bar in its own series, And yeah, I don't think it
- 59:17raises the bar in its own series. I do think it's you get what
- 59:22you expect. Yeah, and you're gonna be satisfying. That's fine. But
- 59:25like if you thought you're gonna see some shit you ain't never seen before.
- 59:28No, no, no, not at all, not at all. Um
- 59:31overall, though, I again it's entertaining for what it's worth. If you
- 59:36are not into violence of that degree, do not see this because this ain't
- 59:43for you. Okay, if you are a fan of the film, or
- 59:45you're really into the concept of Jess as I say, it's like super Plane,
- 59:50super Hot, with wave after wave after wave and then also some unintentionally
- 59:54funny shit happening. You're gonna have a fucking blast, a blast that fucking
- 1:00:00I mean, I'm not gonna tell you what happened with that stairs unintentionally hilarious
- 1:00:06everything leading up to it to do. Everything is funny, like literally a
- 1:00:09comedy at that point, at that point, right, yes, everything is
- 1:00:14funny, even the club scene, the club scene, complete comedy for me.
- 1:00:16I love that villain in the club scene, the mini boss. I
- 1:00:20love the Juggernaut mixed with the Kingpin. Yeah, even though he was utterly
- 1:00:23ridiculous and made no sense at all. I thought it was great, Like
- 1:00:28I was entertained. I just I want more. And that's the thing.
- 1:00:30Like, and this is something this is not just related to John Wick,
- 1:00:35as I says, but this became like, especially last year, I watched
- 1:00:37a lot of foreign films and a lot of foreign TV, and it's something
- 1:00:42I've known, but it was like a rekindling of it where I was like,
- 1:00:45God, damn, we're getting jerked, especially when it comes to action
- 1:00:49films. Yeah, because I've known this, you know, it's very rare.
- 1:00:52Like I think the Mission Impossible series of one of the ones that stretches
- 1:00:54the limits of what you're doing with action and shit. But even them,
- 1:00:58they're doing like even though the stunts are very dangerous and very crazy, they're
- 1:01:01doing shit where it's it's just not on the level of what I've seen.
- 1:01:06Like I said, go back to Hard Boil, go back to John Woo's
- 1:01:08early shit, go to the Raid, Go to Athena, which is you
- 1:01:13know Athena is about some it's some completely different shit. There's nowhere near as
- 1:01:17much dumb play, but just the camera work, the cinematography and the way
- 1:01:22the action is captured. People are just doing shit that I don't feel where
- 1:01:25it's seen all our trip r Like you said, the first time I saw
- 1:01:30it, their action and camera shots, I'm telling you, I hain't never
- 1:01:31seen no ship like that. I've never seen people use a camera like this.
- 1:01:37I've never seen these movements. I've never seen this stylized action the way
- 1:01:40it's done. And I did not feel that here. And because of that,
- 1:01:45I've been like, Yo, we gotta do better or we gotta see
- 1:01:47better, and we can't just accept, you know whatever. And I feel
- 1:01:52like this is definitely except. I mean, I get it's the fourth in
- 1:01:53the series, Like, so you're gonna get what you came for, but
- 1:01:57well, are we going to see better going forward? Because we you know
- 1:02:00this series. I think they're slated to do a couple of spinoffs, ye,
- 1:02:04including a TV show, a TV show around the hotel and one with
- 1:02:07the Armists, and perhaps some characters from this that we won't spoil. But
- 1:02:13it seems like there might be some characters from this that will carry on.
- 1:02:15But on a the Armist who is really dope and yeah she's oh yeah,
- 1:02:22well what was that not? Mission impossible? M Bond was wasted because she
- 1:02:28was only in it for a second and I thought, yeah, she did
- 1:02:30really really well. Yeah, I'm looking forward to that actually. So so
- 1:02:34there might be still like a brighter future for the Wig series, considering it's
- 1:02:37going to continue but from a spinoff perspective, and they're going to see more
- 1:02:40fastest and perhaps more to the ideas and and things we said that probably should
- 1:02:46be explored more. You might get me that might get more of that.
- 1:02:50Um. I never expected to see somebody double tap with a sword that was
- 1:02:54like unintentionally hilarious as well. Just I'm like, what are we doing here?
- 1:03:00What what am I watching here? It's so that's what I mean.
- 1:03:05It's so comedic. I think if it's John Wick just a little bit less
- 1:03:09serious and like made all the dumb jokes, you know, I would be
- 1:03:13like all for it because it's so himself. Yeah, he seems very serious,
- 1:03:17but then you know, like he I ain't gonna hold you. Like
- 1:03:22Kalla, who was looking kind of like a little elderly at times, you
- 1:03:25know, woman was fighting like I could tell the years. We're starting to
- 1:03:29catch up a little bit. I felt that from the beginning, like the
- 1:03:31fund of his counter was only fifty eight, you know, and I'm pretty
- 1:03:36sure Donny In might be older than Counter. I'm not sure, but you
- 1:03:38see the difference. I mean, downing In is that dog. You know,
- 1:03:42he's done this his whole life. Volcano is not really you know he
- 1:03:45had but John Wicks specifically, you see, well, I mean the man's
- 1:03:50been through a lot moving he's moving kind of kind of real slow and haggard.
- 1:03:54I mean not keano but quick. But yeah, he's looking kind of
- 1:03:58haggard. Well, I mean you should see it. But I also don't
- 1:04:01think that the movie is really doing that on purpose. I just think that's
- 1:04:04just how you know. And that's what I'm saying. If he's not,
- 1:04:06if they're not doing that a purpose, I think you're messed up there,
- 1:04:09because I could he looks, he looks kind of it's time to take it
- 1:04:12out the pasture, my guy, Like, yeah, I mean I thought
- 1:04:15that, you know a little bit. Sometimes Yeah, I've been thought they've
- 1:04:20stretched this way too far. But that being said, I think you would
- 1:04:27you recommend it? Would you recommend John Wook for if you are a fan,
- 1:04:30if you've gone through all three you know, yes, of course,
- 1:04:32Like if you're not and this is your first, hell no, because this
- 1:04:36ain't the one like I would start You shouldn't start here. I wouldn't start
- 1:04:40here. I would start with the first one, and I think it'll be
- 1:04:42you know, much more entertained. And then three and then Paul to day.
- 1:04:45Also just skip two. I don't remember that. Should or read the
- 1:04:49wiki? Uh agree? If this is your first time outside, go see
- 1:04:56the first one. Please go catch up first, and then come see this.
- 1:04:59Um yeah, just see three. Say okay, fine, I'm a
- 1:05:03completionist. I might look. Just go see, go find out who is
- 1:05:06who and why it matters. Button for punishment might be more like it,
- 1:05:10baby, and then come see that. You're if you're a fan, you're
- 1:05:14gonna be happy you got what you wanted. Yeah, and uh, this
- 1:05:17is gonna make chiloads of money. I don't know now it's gonna make as
- 1:05:21much money as it should. And when I say should, I'm talking about
- 1:05:25in terms of meeting back of budgets and should like that. Well, three
- 1:05:29was like the biggest one, you know, it made the most money.
- 1:05:30So I think people are here for this one now like people are hyped marketing
- 1:05:34this out of control. I do believe right, this is not this is
- 1:05:38the difference. I see this ship all over the goddamn place offine underground,
- 1:05:45a gun you know, Like yeah, so it's like, if you're not
- 1:05:49watching John Wick, what are you watching? Right? Yeah, I don't
- 1:05:53know people are going to see this one. Yeah, and and judge by
- 1:05:56the audience tracing, people enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Yeah, you know, like
- 1:06:00we said, I think there was moments where people were like, this ridiculous,
- 1:06:02and I don't think. I'm not sure if that was intentional, But
- 1:06:06once again, I don't know, because this isn't stupid either, even though
- 1:06:10they may enjoy stupid things. When my man fell off the building in the
- 1:06:14third one, I was like, Yo, what and are we're watching?
- 1:06:16It's just fast and and furious, Like I get it if it is,
- 1:06:19but yes, John Wick, I've said this, John Wick is his own
- 1:06:23fast and furious. I think at one point they said they wanted to cross
- 1:06:26over. Hey, hell at this point that it would fucking work, you
- 1:06:30know why, because fast and furious it's fucking ridiculous. It's ridiculous on a
- 1:06:33level of family, but it's still fucking ridiculous. I felt like from a
- 1:06:40gun Connor, whatever the name of the shit is slash matrix shit, this
- 1:06:45is what is this what John Wick is? It's supposed to just be outrageous
- 1:06:48and outlandish but also look cool. Um, I could have done without Tracker,
- 1:06:57mister nobody. Like I said, man, that ship was just in
- 1:06:59so just I'm sorry, I'm just going back to him now. No,
- 1:07:00it's wild insulting. I'm like, I feel like that that was like a
- 1:07:04problem like to me, like where I was like, you can't have this
- 1:07:06black dude in there with the dog and have no connection to Halley. And
- 1:07:11if you give him no connectionality, you got to give him a storyline and
- 1:07:14you give him nothing. I just didn't understand why. And that's how even
- 1:07:21the worst joke, you know, oh my name's missing Nobody, so the
- 1:07:24script gives me nothing, you know. It's like that's that's so like insulting.
- 1:07:28Man. That's where I'll say, Yo, this movie is insulting.
- 1:07:30You know, Missing Nobody's shared the particular with insulting. I mean where I
- 1:07:32was like, nah, Manna, that's nah, man, you're gone too
- 1:07:35far, you know, like you've gone too far, like at that point,
- 1:07:39dog, you can't do that, like nah, that's like you know,
- 1:07:43that's going back to um Last of Us. You know, you can't
- 1:07:45have two dumbass major villains in the same season. You can't do it twice
- 1:07:51dog, you know what I mean? That's dead insulting now, Like I
- 1:07:55get it once was too much twice now And this dude in this movie,
- 1:07:59it's cregeous bad. Like they give your boy Cane a whole ass storyline,
- 1:08:04you know, they give them mister Nobody nothing and then he made stupid choices.
- 1:08:09It ends with him Janey nothing learning, nothing, no point to his
- 1:08:14character none, none, and and cute dog, but like why who cares?
- 1:08:24And it's like it feels like there was something to cut out with the
- 1:08:26connection to Holley, But this movie is almost three hours. They cut They
- 1:08:30definitely cut something out. It has to be because he makes it makes no
- 1:08:33sense why he's there besides inserting a character in the universe that you may spin
- 1:08:36off and making people want to see, you know, this movie because they're
- 1:08:41like, oh, it has to be a connection. Like this feels like
- 1:08:45the old Marvel fake outs when they would show some shit in the trailer and
- 1:08:47it looked like Wolverine and he's like, oh my god, Wolverine's gonna be
- 1:08:49in you know, Avengers, and then it wouldn't happen. That's how this
- 1:08:54feels like, this feels like disrespectful. No, I mean this was even
- 1:08:58more because at least I didn't give a shit, least I gotta injur still,
- 1:09:00you know, like this is like nah, I Sam, like you
- 1:09:02know, I really was hoping for something. And then to me, at
- 1:09:05least the dog was nowhere near as dope as Holly's dog, Like no,
- 1:09:10nowhere near her dogs because she had more than one. But and there were
- 1:09:14yet and there was just the illest shots with them dogs and the illest sequences.
- 1:09:17And with this he was like, oh he's gonna buy somebody in the
- 1:09:20nuts again, all right, you know, oh wow, yeah it's had
- 1:09:26come on man, like yeah it was. He was. He was the
- 1:09:29mid version of mid ain't even the word bro, Yeah that man, that
- 1:09:31man, Like you know, I've smoked better mids than that, all right,
- 1:09:39ben uh anything else that that's new or nobody is gonna be when you
- 1:09:44get bunk weed, that's what I'm gonna be, Like, that's that mister
- 1:09:47nobody over there and there, I ain't smoking that shit. Shit asked nigga
- 1:09:51that shit got nothing to it. Ain't smoking on that, mister. No
- 1:09:58road niggas out here smoking on mister no body. I guess now they don't
- 1:10:01have a word with you, brother, all right, Um, yeah,
- 1:10:06I think that's about it. Oh we're done. That was it with the
- 1:10:11smoking on this and nobody? No, no, no, I'm just saying
- 1:10:14like, I just you know, because like at this point it's like ranting,
- 1:10:16So I just yeah, I think I think we're done. Yeah,
