- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! We've been talking a lot about the zoo lately, right? Animals, feeding times... but one thing we haven't covered is how to find your way around. Lucas: Exactly. Today we're going to learn some basic Danish phrases for asking and giving directions. Super useful, not just at the zoo, but anywhere. Luna: I can already imagine myself lost at the zoo, trying to find the restrooms. So let's start with that. How do I ask 'Where is the toilet?' in Danish? Lucas: Great question. That's 'Hvor er toilettet?' Let's break it down: Hvor means where, er means is, and toilettet means the toilet. So, Hvor er toilettet? Luna: Hvor er toilettet? Hmm, that's a bit of a mouthful. Let me try: Hvor er toilettet? Lucas: Perfect! You've got the 'r' sound right. Toilettet is pronounced almost like 'twah let ed' but with a soft 'd' at the end. Say it once more? Luna: Hvor er toilettet? Lucas: Yes! Now, if someone gives you directions, you might hear 'til højre' meaning 'to the right.' Repeat after me: til højre. Luna: Til højre. That's tricky. Højre has that soft 'j' sound. Til højre. Lucas: You're doing great. And the opposite is 'til venstre' — to the left. Say it with me: til venstre. Luna: Til venstre. That's a bit easier. Til venstre. Lucas: Awesome. And for 'straight ahead,' you say 'Lige ud.' Lige ud. The 'g' is almost silent, like 'lee-uh ooth.' Luna: Lige ud. So if someone says 'Lige ud,' I go straight? Lucas: Exactly. Now let's put it together. Imagine you're at the zoo and you want to find the entrance. You could ask 'Hvor er indgangen?' — Where is the entrance? Indgangen means the entrance. Luna: Hvor er indgangen? Hvor er indgangen. Lucas: And someone might answer: 'Lige ud, så til højre.' Straight ahead, then to the right. Luna: Lige ud, så til højre. I think I can remember that. So what if I need to find the toilet? I ask 'Hvor er toilettet?' and they say 'Til venstre.' Lucas: Right. Let's practice a quick dialogue. I'll be the visitor, and you be the helpful zoo employee. Okay, I'll start: 'Undskyld, hvor er toilettet?' Luna: Hmm, I think I'd say: 'Det er til venstre, lige ud.' That means 'It's to the left, straight ahead.' Lucas: Wait, that's a bit confusing. You'd say 'til venstre' or 'lige ud'? Let's keep it simple: 'Til venstre.' Just to the left. Luna: Oh, right. So 'Til venstre.' Got it. Lucas: Now if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Danish, you can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It helps keep things ad-free, and we really appreciate it. Luna: Absolutely. Every little bit helps us keep making these episodes. So if you find it useful, consider supporting us. Lucas: Now, back to directions. Let's practice one more phrase: 'Hvor er udgangen?' — Where is the exit? Udgangen means the exit. Luna: Hvor er udgangen? That sounds like indgangen but with 'ud.' Easy. Lucas: Yes. And a possible answer: 'Lige ud, så til højre.' Straight ahead, then right. Luna: Okay, let me try a full sentence: 'Undskyld, hvor er udgangen?' 'Lige ud, så til højre.' Lucas: Perfect. You're ready to navigate the zoo. Let's do a quick review of today's phrases. First: Hvor er toilettet? Luna: Hvor er toilettet? Lucas: Til højre. Luna: Til højre. Lucas: Til venstre. Luna: Til venstre. Lucas: Lige ud. Luna: Lige ud. Lucas: And Hvor er indgangen? Luna: Hvor er indgangen? Lucas: Fantastic! Practice these phrases when you're out and about. Next time, maybe we'll learn how to order a snack at the zoo café. Luna: Oh, that sounds good! I'll definitely practice my directions so I can find the café. Thanks for joining us, and we'll see you next time on Learn Danish with Fexingo. Lucas: Farvel og på gensyn!
