- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one Piece
- 0:11episodes four ninety and four ninety Wait is it yes? Four four ninety one,
- 0:18Sorry everybody. Mighty leaders face each other down, heralding the new era
- 0:23and landing at the Maiden Island, the harsh reality falls upon Loofy. In
- 0:30these two fucking bummer episodes, we get to see what happens when the violence
- 0:38is over and now there is a power vacuum. Welcome to spoil Me,
- 1:00Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 1:04Florian for commissioning this episode. Yeah, these were such a bummer, guys,
- 1:11they just were like, there is some funny, cheery stuff mixed in
- 1:18there, don't get me wrong, But for the most part what we've going
- 1:22on got going on is like people being harassed and terrorized, folks who think
- 1:30that everything is going to be great now and just getting got like without any
- 1:36warning. A lot of the time, we find out that there's like a
- 1:41bunch of islands that white Beard was protecting and he you know, it's not
- 1:47like this place has social media. So even though there's a good number of
- 1:51people who are aware of the conflict and stuff. The news that he has
- 1:56actually died doesn't necessarily try right away. So there's whole villages and stuff where
- 2:02they have been relying low key on his flag flying above them, and then
- 2:12to find out that he's dead from the people who are now attacking them.
- 2:15I mean, that is a real bummer wake up call, and I just
- 2:21can't help but wonder, like, if white Beard had considered all of this,
- 2:27would it have mattered to him, Would he have made any different choices?
- 2:32I would guess probably not. You know, it's not his first rodeo.
- 2:37I'm sure that in a way he's always considered these sorts of consequences.
- 2:42But it makes me. It gets me to thinking, like, when you
- 2:46are a captain that has amassed the kind of power that he has, maybe
- 2:53you need to like really get some things in place for if something were to
- 2:57happen to you and just you know, potentially in the future, not saying
- 3:04it's gonna happen now, but an insurance policy of some sort. And probably
- 3:13originally, this is my guess, anyway, Ace was going to be Whitebeard's
- 3:16insurance policy. I don't know that, but you know, after everything with
- 3:23him running off and trying to track down black Beard and how all of that
- 3:27happened, probably want to update things there. So then I think it might
- 3:31be Marco, who seemed to be his sort of right hand on the battlefield.
- 3:37And I don't know exactly what's going on at the moment with the pirates
- 3:42that were in the fight. Mostly what we see is that the people who
- 3:46are directly involved with Loofy going to made N Island next time. But Marco,
- 3:52I don't know where he is off to, Like what are the white
- 3:57Beard pirates just licking their wound? I'm assuming I would really like it if
- 4:03they would get out here and get into things a little bit, not like
- 4:09I'm not. I I know that they have just been in the midst of
- 4:13this terrible battle and so that that is unfair. But also it just feels
- 4:21like you have an obligation and I'm always going to side with the little people.
- 4:28I you know, that's just always that's who I am. I am
- 4:30the little people. I have no power in the world. Things that come
- 4:35on high happen to me, and I am not able to like stop them.
- 4:40I can deal with I can I can determine how I cope with them
- 4:45to a point, but it's the same thing like with the small Folk and
- 4:50Song of ason Fire. They're the ones who really tend to suffer, and
- 4:56they're only seen as pieces on a they are not seen as people. Their
- 5:01pain and their suffering is completely hypothetical. And I will admit that even in
- 5:09the grand scheme, as much as I am a little person because I am
- 5:15a privileged, white, straight American, I am still slightly more important than
- 5:23a lot of other people that exist too. There's a hierarchy. But I
- 5:28always really feel for folks who just get swept up in a conflict and they
- 5:34don't have the I think there's just a sort of thing that a lot of
- 5:39us have believed from being children and understanding, like the way that wars happened
- 5:46in the US, that you have two armies who do it out and then
- 5:50whoever wins of those armies, and like there are so many civilian casualties in
- 5:58most wars, it's astronomical. I feel like I remember reading during a test
- 6:03that I took when I was in college that somewhere around ninety eight percent or
- 6:11ninety it was definitely in the ninety percentile of casualties in wars are civilians.
- 6:18They are not people who are part of either side government or army or anything
- 6:25like that. And it's so it's so consistent. You know, this is
- 6:32just the sort of thing that has remained true throughout such a period of time
- 6:38that it's taken for granted in a way that I wish we wouldn't and I
- 6:41wish you'd stop and really think about what that means, because it's just devastating.
- 6:46And that's really kind of what the main focus is here. So the
- 6:51out of the two episodes, when we start, we see all of the
- 6:56people around, like I think that some of the folks are in Sabo,
- 7:00but we go to a bunch of different areas and really get to see like
- 7:03different buildings in the background, and there tends to be a sort of theme
- 7:09to the way they're dressed that gives us a clue that a lot of them
- 7:12are in specific areas. We also see some other marines headquarters and whatnot,
- 7:19and they are hearing that the UH Marines have been victorious. And this is
- 7:28a really well done like unrolling of the actual conflict that comes later, because
- 7:35at first it's just pure celebration, right, all of these Marines who hear
- 7:44that they are on the side of the winners really feel like fucking badasses.
- 7:48We've got confetti flying in the streets. We've got people dancing and feasting and
- 7:55praying, thanking the gods, like there is just unf fettered joy because people
- 8:03think this is this is it. It's a rap. We are not worried
- 8:09anymore. And there's like a kind of striking image of saba Ode a little
- 8:16bit later after the news is delivered, where the square that everybody had been
- 8:20sort of gathered in with the huge TV screens and speakers and everything they had
- 8:26been watching and you know, breathless waiting for any news, and then as
- 8:31things like turn a corner, all of this confetti is falling and you go
- 8:37back to that spot and there isn't a soul standing there, Like everybody they
- 8:41are done with needing information. They have heard the navy one and that is
- 8:46it. And what I think is so interesting about this is like one could
- 8:50argue that this is sort of symbolic of the fact that they hear that okay,
- 8:54we won game over, like that's it, and that they should have
- 8:58stayed and found out more so that they could be better prepared. But I
- 9:05really have to point out that the Navy is not disseminating any other information.
- 9:11So even had they tried to inform themselves, they are at the mercy of
- 9:16whatever transmission they're getting, which is going to be heavily edited and biased.
- 9:24Stares at camera. This is just this is the thing, guys. And
- 9:28I know I know that this is by no means news to anybody, but
- 9:37it is really grim for me. The way that we get our information.
- 9:45It's I think a lot of people are tempted to blame it on social media
- 9:48and forget that this is how it's always been. Any major news outlet has
- 9:54always had to be owned by somebody, and whoever owned it had a lot
- 10:00of fucking money and a lot of power and were able to squash things they
- 10:05didn't want, or have articles rewritten to a certain bent to convince people reading
- 10:11of a certain perspective. It's just been the way things are. Even before
- 10:18there were news outlets, anybody who had the power over a large number of
- 10:24people could tell all of them at once, here's the story we're going with
- 10:28and send them out into the world to disseminate this misinformation. Go into bars
- 10:33and just talk at the bar and have this person seem like they're just a
- 10:35random citizen, or say I was there when blank blank blank happened. And
- 10:41it is a really frightening thing for me anytime that I let myself think about
- 10:48it for too long. How easy it is to distribute misinformation. It's not
- 10:56just the fact that some people want to think in a certain way and so
- 11:00feeding them what they already want to hear is going to be like magic.
- 11:05It's also the fact that so many people lack basic critical thinking skills. And
- 11:15you guys know what I mean. There's just a sense of like, this
- 11:20is what's sort of funny about it, is that when you circle around and
- 11:24look at some of the folks who are saying a lot of the things that
- 11:28for me, I disagree with, the difficulties that they have match up with
- 11:37mine, like we both are concerned about the same things, but they are
- 11:41operating from such a complete place of misinformation that they are coming to a totally
- 11:48opposite conclusion. And what I mean by this is just something like, for
- 11:52example, medical care, let's talk about that. Okay, so in the
- 11:58United States, we don't have any It's very bad. You get it through
- 12:01your employer or you pay a fortune for it, like privately, there's the
- 12:05public marketplace, but that's also incredibly expensive. For me and Owen it's about
- 12:09four hundred dollars a month and it's not good coverage. We have like a
- 12:13seven thousand dollars deductible, which is insane. And that is how it works.
- 12:20Now. Right wingers have a massive issue with big Pharma, which is
- 12:26part of the whole like not getting a vaccination, that whole thing, right,
- 12:31They don't trust big Pharma that they're out to get us, which,
- 12:35don't get me wrong, Big Parma is corrupt af I'm not trying to defend
- 12:39them, but there is a point where it's like, to what end do
- 12:43they want to give us poison in our vaccines? Like come on, And
- 12:48these people are on the right track in a way, but instead of seeing
- 12:54the fact that we could all have basic health care like they do in other
- 12:58parts of the world very successfully, if we were to just reallocate the funds
- 13:03to go there instead of to our military, if we were to tax the
- 13:07rich in a way that is effective and fair, if we were to actually
- 13:16see the charges that are real from a hospital instead of the incredibly inflated charges
- 13:20that we see that lead us to believe that caring for everybody would be impossible.
- 13:26All of this adds up to the fact that somebody doesn't want us to
- 13:31have it because they need to make money off of us dying, right,
- 13:39That's what it adds up to. But if you take it to that place
- 13:43of we could afford to do this for everybody, if we just that's where
- 13:48you hit the block, because immediately then they start to think that you're like
- 13:52a communist, socialist at best, communist at worst. Frankly, I am
- 13:56a communist, so fucking whatever. But they bunk at the idea of money
- 14:03being taken from the rich because they have been programmed to think that they have
- 14:09something in common with the rich. They have no understanding that this is a
- 14:16completely unfair system that deeply penalizes anybody living in poverty and disproportionately rewards those who
- 14:24already have more money than they could ever use in several lifetimes. And they
- 14:30parrot back these same talking points about how nobody should get to steal the money
- 14:35that they earned. Fair and square one. We're not talking about your money.
- 14:39We're talking about the money of people who aren't paying their fair share and
- 14:41who secondly, did not earn it fair and square at all. But those
- 14:48two facts, one the tax that the taxes are inequal right now and need
- 14:54to be fixed, they don't believe that. And two, they genuinely think
- 15:01that they are several steps from being a millionaire themselves and that eventually those taxes
- 15:07will hurt them somehow, And they don't want to look at the fact that
- 15:13when Trump went into office and changed tax brackets, he made it so that
- 15:16the wealthy got another break and the poorest tax payments got higher. These people
- 15:24have this like basic idea about how everything works, and yet as much as
- 15:33they are like correct in the things that they are upset about and zeroing in
- 15:37on, they are accepting information from a source that is plainly biased and they
- 15:43don't see it. And I know I'm preaching to a choir. If you're
- 15:48listening to this, you know this, and you're probably bored, and I'm
- 15:50sorry, but that's what really struck me here is just the fact that the
- 15:56Marines seem to have a complete lock on any information that they just doesn't look
- 16:02like anybody else has any control. And that, for me, is something
- 16:07that we should really start to address. Like if I were a pirate at
- 16:11this point unsurprising since I'm a podcaster, I would probably try and find ways
- 16:21to break into the system and find ways to disseminate information that is correct,
- 16:26actual footage of things. I would be working on that a lot. And
- 16:33I say this with the full acknowledgment that I say that. But is that
- 16:37what I'm doing right now in the world with actual misinformation? No? I
- 16:41mean, I guess you could say with the podcast I did have the honor
- 16:45of at one point a major post that went viral asked what made you change
- 16:51into a socialist? And two people tagged on Spoiled Podcasts? So, you
- 16:55know what, maybe a little bit, maybe I'm doing it a little bit.
- 16:57I kind of like it. I'm just gonna I'm gonna tell myself that.
- 17:00But the way that they have got a complete like just private TV station
- 17:12in a style of like the Capitol in the Hunger Games, that shit is
- 17:18so dangerous, man, that is just a really frightening prospect. And as
- 17:26frightening as it is, it's like maybe two three steps from where we currently
- 17:33exist as a people, because there are like four companies that own all media.
- 17:41When you boil it down to the like, you know, the biggest
- 17:44part, the biggest owners. It's it's like we're so we're so Oh my
- 17:49god, I wish I wish that I knew how to fight something like this,
- 17:55I really do, but it just seems so hopeless, sometimes so over
- 18:00whelming, and so cleverly built to keep us from being able to make any
- 18:06significant changes that there are times where I feel like, what's the point,
- 18:11you know, oh Florians? In the chat, Florian says, because of
- 18:15daylight savings, time between US and the EU are one hour closer, and
- 18:21I'm not used to it. Oh right, you guys do have daylight savings
- 18:26as well, right, but it just happens at a different point. I
- 18:27feel like I remember that reading that it's like for a month and a half
- 18:32we're out of sink, and then it goes back to being in sync because
- 18:36you guys do it later. Which just can we all just fucking shelve daylight
- 18:41savings for God's sake? I really, just what are we doing? It?
- 18:47Fucks us all up every year? Can we just not? Everybody that
- 18:49I have talked to agree but no, no, we cannot. So anyway,
- 18:56this it's really tough because like, at first, I'm watching it,
- 19:00and I'm seeing everybody cheering, and I'm already like, yeah, fools,
- 19:03because they're cheering for the government. Three cheers for the world government. And
- 19:11I'm over here like, hmm, that isn't exactly a Really they're not on
- 19:17your side, even though they can tell themselves that, but these people don't
- 19:22know yet, you know. And I gotta say, like the pirates,
- 19:29it's not really like easy to send a message about what side they're on because
- 19:36they aren't all on the same side either. There are bad guy pirates out
- 19:41there that are out here fucking people up, and there are some decent ones
- 19:45that want to keep that sort of thing from happening. And it's you know,
- 19:51we saw the way that like Teach just decided to fucking turn into a
- 19:56super villain, and that's not a great look. So why wouldn't people side
- 20:02with the Marines over that display. I can't really like blame them for making
- 20:07the assumptions that they do, but it's just really hard to watch them get
- 20:12this excited. And this is when we go to the seven ships out at
- 20:21sea near Marine Ford, and it's all like the the big players who are
- 20:30kind of like figuring out what comes next they it says, staring at the
- 20:36dust of the battle rising above Marine Ford, evidence of the workings of justice
- 20:41in the Great Pirate era. They sense the restlessness of the changing times,
- 20:49and they're talking like some of them are saying it's over, but there are
- 20:55others who are just like, it's not over. Are you kidding me?
- 20:57And it depends on who we're seeing the reaction that they have. Drake is
- 21:03being told like it's and that this is all over, and he says,
- 21:07well, the navy has to change. Also, then there's a guy who's
- 21:12like a mobster who says Whitebeard's territory will sink in a sea of blood in
- 21:19this whirlpool, which he is fucking correct. And let's see, black Beard
- 21:26is the key. He's gained new followers and Whitebeard's power if I'm sure they're
- 21:32going to reign for a while. And it was hard for me to tell
- 21:36how he felt about it, because this character never stops smiling, so I
- 21:41always feel like he's saying things that sound pretty terrible, but he looks pretty
- 21:45happy about it. And I don't know what side he falls on, and
- 21:52I don't know if that's on purpose or if things were going a slightly different
- 21:56way in the original, and it's just like the dub that kind of changes
- 22:03the tone. But whatever the case, So let's see who have we got
- 22:07here. I'm looking at the list that Florian made for me like a total
- 22:11sweetheart. Oh my god, there are so many people though. Seriously,
- 22:18Katerina Devin, she is just the one that keeps arresting me every time I
- 22:23see her face. I am really excited because she's just so different looking than
- 22:30so many other woman characters. But she hasn't gotten enough to do. Florian
- 22:34says. The revolutionaries seem to be the only ones that are onto the marine
- 22:37shit and want to do something about it. So we have heard like Eva
- 22:41or Dragon are with them? Oh, Florian says, Oh no, I
- 22:45have not added them. Don't Florian, Please don't worry about it. But
- 22:51he says he thinks I'm talking about Apoh okay. Then we go to the
- 22:56girl who's got the pink hair, and she's the one that's yelling it's all
- 23:03his fault. I'll track him down soon enough. Let's go to the New
- 23:08World, and I'm really excited to see everybody gathered up against Blackbeard. Just
- 23:18for the record, Oh a poo is the one with the uh piano teeth.
- 23:27According to this anyway, it looks like the guy I was talking about
- 23:32was the one who's got the black voice actor and he has the super wide
- 23:36neck and he's just always like grinning from ear to ear and looks like a
- 23:41fucking wrestler. But Appo is he or a Pooh? I think it's a
- 23:47pooh? He says, let's see, because he's like kind of got a
- 23:53different take on a lot of this, he seems. He says, what
- 23:57the hell is going on? And his people are like, what are you
- 24:02talking about? And he says that guy will become his enemy? Is he
- 24:04really gonna save him? I'm talking about Trafalgar Law. He's known for his
- 24:11brutality. He wouldn't save straw hat Loofy if there wasn't some catch, and
- 24:18I'm really curious what that could be. Then we go to Hawkins, who's
- 24:25trying to do a card reading here. I just want to mention too.
- 24:29With Hawkins, I find it really fascinating the way that he has a spot
- 24:36to place his cards in front of him. I know that this is something
- 24:38that probably nobody cares about me, but look, I am somebody who likes
- 24:44to do taro pulling, and it's difficult sometimes if you've got a big spread
- 24:52and you don't have a huge empty table to manage like all of your cards.
- 25:00The fact that he just has these like tagging little stands in front of
- 25:03him in midair that just hover that he can just place a card on and
- 25:07keep track of jealous, deeply deeply jealous. And he says that he's trying
- 25:14to see whether or not Lufy is still alive and the cards are not.
- 25:22This is interesting, guys. I'm doing a thing that I haven't done in
- 25:26a minute, just to give you guys an understanding of why I might be
- 25:30sort of stammering over certain sentences as I'm reading them. I watched this episode,
- 25:36these two episodes on Hulu, but as I am covering it and talking
- 25:41to y'all, I am watching on Funimation, and I forgot that Fundimation,
- 25:45even with the dub, has the original subtitles, while Hulu has subtitles that
- 25:51match the English dub. So I'm looking at this and the way that it
- 25:56says in the dub is I am trying to find out from the cards whether
- 26:03Lufy is alive or dead. But the cards refuse to say, and in
- 26:08the original it looks like the subs says, I'm trying to determine the odds
- 26:17of whether Loofy is dead or alive. Let's see, I'm gonna read it
- 26:21exactly so you guys can get a sense of this. I've been trying to
- 26:23see the odds that Lufy's still alive. But it never reaches zero. That's
- 26:32a very different vibe to me. Like the cards refused to say means things
- 26:37are uncertain. But if it never reaches zero, that means pretty much that
- 26:44he's still alive, which I guess uncertain. You know that that isn't really
- 26:51saying that he's still alive. That's just a different thing. I think it's
- 26:52interesting every time that I see some change that kind of alters the meaning a
- 26:59little bit. So, yeah, see, there's a couple other dudes.
- 27:06I can't remember this guy's name. He's got like a well, a wild
- 27:11sort of I don't know if he's like his second in command, but the
- 27:14dude has long white hair all the way down to his butt, and he
- 27:18has like tattoos around his mouth that look like the threading of a needle.
- 27:21When you sow somebody's mouth shut for you know, like a corpse or something,
- 27:26and they're talking about how it's really over, isn't it, And here
- 27:32comes fucking Eustace. I think it's his name. I feel like I remember
- 27:36his name because I was like, really, that doesn't feel like it fits.
- 27:38But he says, uh, what's over? Like Blackbeard is the one
- 27:45in control now, it's never over because any time and again I'm going to
- 27:51compare these lines the new force who emerge during the war. That Blackbeard is
- 27:56quite a guy. And in the dub he says, anytime a big like
- 28:07a a mean man is taken down or something like that, a bigger,
- 28:11meaner man comes to take his place. So, yeah, he said before
- 28:17it was white Beard, red Hair, Kayito and big Mom. Have we
- 28:22met them? Kaydo? What was it? Redhead and Big Mom? We
- 28:29haven't met them, right, he says. But since one of them is
- 28:32dead, the world is out of balance and no one can predict the consequences.
- 28:37This is the beginning of a new era, the likes of which no
- 28:40one has ever seen. Y'all. I cannot tell you. Uh oh wow,
- 28:48Florian says, red Hair is Shanks. I didn't even realize, how
- 28:53am I that stupid? I cannot believe myself. But I didn't realize that
- 28:56Shanks was like that high up on the list. That's much more powerful than
- 29:02I really thought. But damn, okay, I you guys, this is
- 29:07just so the more that I watch one piece, the more I realize how
- 29:12much Cradle pulled from one piece, Like it was just such a clear direct
- 29:18like inspiration. And I'm not mad at that. I just want to be
- 29:22clear, like I'm not trying to be like, oh, now Cradle is
- 29:23invalid, but it really is kind of funny once you begin to step back
- 29:29and look at like the monarchs and the way that that's structured, and how
- 29:32similar that is here. So we go back to Marine Ford and there is
- 29:41this scene where, first of all, there's a bunch of these fucking Pelicans
- 29:48who are disseminating information an everywhere, and the announcer is saying, and I'm
- 29:56going to compare what it is that he says in the sub with mine,
- 30:00But the way that he said it onmine was that the in the way that
- 30:07history usually works, some facts get glossed over and people only remember the major
- 30:15points, and so a lot of people were not considering what was going to
- 30:22come next, and yeah, this is close. Like most of history,
- 30:26some facts are trimmed off as the news goes around and just the two words
- 30:30Navy victory stand out. The people, in their excitement at the news,
- 30:36failed to notice something. And this is when we have the first arrival of
- 30:41a pirate who's got three ponytails going down his back and he is wearing a
- 30:51cowboy hat and using an old rifle and there's like a I think he's got
- 30:55kind of a poncho thing on, so we're definitely going Old West, it
- 30:59feels like with this. But it was interesting because he is like shooting guns
- 31:07and just sort of yelling at the populace from this balcony. And at first
- 31:14I thought this guy was arriving to just start to like reak havoc, but
- 31:21seeing what he's actually saying, which is, did you guys not hear that
- 31:26the one piece is real? That gold Roger wasn't lying. I mean,
- 31:33we got to get on the water right now. Let's get the fuck out
- 31:34of here. And it was sort of funny to me because everybody is like
- 31:37down in the in the square, cowering and sad at the fact that these
- 31:41guys are like, you know, shooting guns, and I thought they were
- 31:47about to do some damage, but actually they're announcing that they're taking off.
- 31:53One would think might be good news for these people, but I don't know
- 31:56how much these people have gotten used to a you know, a violent presence
- 32:04that they know at least, versus being left defenseless and then a whole other
- 32:09ship of pirates showing up and plundering them. You know, maybe that's maybe
- 32:14that's the thing. It's just the devil, you know, But yeah,
- 32:17I just I really took that as like a different way. But then we
- 32:22get the other way pretty shortly. We have a whole bunch of dudes who
- 32:25descend on food Vaulton, which is just such a funny name, you guys,
- 32:32And they immediately are just like, yay, you guys are dependent on
- 32:38white Beard, and if you haven't heard, he's fucking dead. So we
- 32:42can just basically do whatever we want now. Okay, So this is the
- 32:49moment where we go back to Sengoku, who is standing there with his goat.
- 32:52Guys, I know that this goat has likely come up before. I
- 33:00feel it in my gut that we've seen this goat before, but I don't
- 33:06remember it, and it's very distracting to me, Like I keep just thinking,
- 33:14what a weird little tether this is, this goat. But anyway,
- 33:20so he's there just sort of looking up at the damage that was done in
- 33:22this war, and he gets approached by one of his men, who he
- 33:30is like completely wrapped in bandages, by the way, But this dude who
- 33:36comes up has got bright green hair and he's wearing pink pants and a shoes
- 33:43and shirt made out of like the same striped blue and white material. And
- 33:51this guy is apparently sharing some information from impelled down, which I hadn't like.
- 33:59The the consideration that they are not up on the news from impel down
- 34:05had not occurred to me. And he's like, you know, Magellan is
- 34:12under intensive care because he got beaten really really badly and was almost killed.
- 34:19But he is blaming himself for the whole thing. They said that if he
- 34:23could move now, he'd kill himself, and Sengoku says, don't let him
- 34:29do such a stupid thing. And then what has been going on at the
- 34:34prison? Allow me to tell you the condition as it stands. It is
- 34:38especially bad at level six, literally a disaster and we find out that the
- 34:45way things went back when was that Blackbeard went into the prisons and he told
- 34:54everybody who was like in each cell, because they're grouped together, and it
- 35:00looks like there's like, you know, ten or fifteen people per sell.
- 35:05It looks like what he told them was all of you have, you know,
- 35:12just like until the last man standing go at each other, and whoever
- 35:15is left alive is going to get to join my crew. And I was
- 35:22sort of wondering if these people were going to push back against that a little
- 35:27bit more. But the prisoners that are left at impelled down are not being
- 35:34treated in the same way as the prisoners that came out with Loofy. There's
- 35:37a real sort of suggestion here. And I don't know if this is like
- 35:43something that is actually meaningful and explained, or if it's simply the way it's
- 35:47working because of how the story has to go. But what it feels like
- 35:53is that the prisoners who were particularly decent and not necessarily worthy of being imprisoned
- 36:05the way that they are here, they're the ones that all left with Loofy,
- 36:09and that the people that are actual dangerous criminals are all left. And
- 36:16so when they are presented with this like kill each other and one of you
- 36:20gets to come with me. They all respond with a lot of excitement,
- 36:24and the animation is very specific. The way that they're depicted is not like
- 36:30at first, it's not even quite human. We have a lot of sort
- 36:32of impressions of eyes and faces and hands, but they're all done in a
- 36:37way that's almost like animalistic and tongues hanging out and lolling. There's just not
- 36:43a lot of like the feeling of them being people until after he makes the
- 36:47announcement. And then when we see them, like one of these guys has
- 36:52literally got pointed teeth when he's screaming like all right, let's do this.
- 36:57Who have I got to kill first? Like there's more than one do with
- 37:00pointed teeth, And it's just like the whole way that these prisoners are being
- 37:07depicted, it's just really really different. And we see like the camera go
- 37:17from one to the other of the people that he wound up actually teaming up
- 37:23with, and the shadows of the folks in the cell falling on them and
- 37:30them looking really excited about it. And it seems to me like the suggestion
- 37:37here is that absolutely nobody there stands a chance because it's just a given that
- 37:42the folks we've seen him with are going to win, because there is no
- 37:45contest at all. So yeah, he says four prisoners were taken San Juan
- 37:51Wolf, Avolo Pizarro, Vasco Shot, and Katerina Devin, but they're obviously
- 37:58more prisoners missing from level six, which means and he looks down and uh,
- 38:07the goat is like chewing at him, and he's sort of like distracted,
- 38:14but some Goku finishes, I understand. Then there are more escapees from
- 38:20level six, and we see the uh, like all of the gates on
- 38:27these prisons being opened and then just sort of wandering out. So apparently,
- 38:34like I'm confused about whether or not he actually did do the like fight each
- 38:37other to the death, if all of the people who are actually getting out
- 38:42did kill their cellmates and just weren't chosen, or if like Blackbeard did that
- 38:47to just cause chaos and then didn't follow through with it. But there's like
- 38:52a lot of people left. Florian says they are in level six where Krock
- 39:00and Ace was, so the worst of the worst or at least strongest,
- 39:05gotcha, okay, And he says. Sengoku says, if even one of
- 39:09the prisoners from Level six sneaks into a country somewhere, the people will be
- 39:15in grave danger. Check to see how many there were their names, get
- 39:20a most wanted list out now. And this guy bulks a little bit and
- 39:25says, I'm really sorry, but I was given orders from the world government
- 39:31directly to keep everything that happened at Level six totally secret. And Sengoku kind
- 39:40of like loses his patience here and he just says, I don't give a
- 39:46damn, and I'm gonna be honest, guys. This is an interesting change
- 39:52from the subtitles that I don't know what how to interpret it, because in
- 39:58the dum that's what he says, like, I don't give a damn,
- 40:01which in my opinion, sounds like I'm gonna do what the fuck I said.
- 40:07I don't. I have no interest in what you just told me.
- 40:09It's not relevant. In this sub it says damn them, which does not
- 40:19imply rebellion of any kind. It more seems just like the frustrated outburst of
- 40:25somebody who is like going to do what he was told, but he's gonna
- 40:32let you know that he's really pissed about it, And so I'm not totally
- 40:37sure what way sing Oku's gonna go with this, because if it's just damned
- 40:43them and he's actually listening to them, I mean, it makes sense that
- 40:47he would be like that. He would just be loyal and take orders and
- 40:52obedient to the world government because of his position. But I also kind of
- 40:58hope that he just like sides screw the reputation of the government. We're going
- 41:02to do what we need to to save these people. Because honestly, what
- 41:07I would like is to respect Sengoku a little bit more. I don't feel
- 41:10like I know him well enough, and I don't need him to be like
- 41:15a likable person. That's not it at all. But I would like to
- 41:20feel that there is some sort of moral code that he operates by and that
- 41:24the lives of these people matter to him in a way that supersedes the reputation
- 41:32of the government. You know. So just gotta sort of wait and see
- 41:37on that and see find out where that goes. Then we have a sort
- 41:43of interesting thing with fucking Moria, who he has been it seems gripped up
- 41:52by the Pacifistas. There's like a lot of explosions happening, and Dol Flamingo
- 42:00is standing over him and is telling him, like, let's be real,
- 42:07you know that you are too weak to be a war lord. And I
- 42:15don't know. I was a little bit surprised about this, you guys,
- 42:16because Maria's power to me seems pretty impressive. And Do Flamingo being so dismissive
- 42:25of it. I was like, but why, I mean, I don't
- 42:28know he's doing something with it. And he says, died in the War
- 42:37of the Best sounds better than done in by the government. And Maria says,
- 42:44whose idea was this, Sengoku? And do Flamingo says no, someone
- 42:49much higher up the ladder, and Maria just looks upset. But we don't
- 42:54actually see what happens here, and I'm super curious what that's all about.
- 43:00So then we go back to the submarine where they're taking care of Loofy,
- 43:08the one with law, and we've got this this fucking BEPO, the bear.
- 43:15He's down here, crying about how hot it is and sounding like Michael
- 43:19Sarah. He says, I don't like it. When we submerge, we
- 43:22have to say stay in such a cramped place with messy people. And he
- 43:29says this with a real sort of side eye, but they take it,
- 43:34take exception to this, and he says, well, I have no choice
- 43:37but to bear it, but I'm gonna make you guys feel it too.
- 43:42Oh my god, I said I have no choice but to bear it.
- 43:44Oh my god, I just heard that. Sorry, guys, I didn't
- 43:46do it on purpose. Yeah, So he just starts rubbing his face on
- 43:52them. He is very funny. I don't know what it is like we're
- 43:55doing with him ultimately, but he's getting his sweat all over them, and
- 44:00it is very funny to me. So when they surface, that is when
- 44:08Hancock lands on the deck of the ship, and of course Beppo is immediately
- 44:14like, who the fuck are you all got? Because he isn't exactly a
- 44:16uh He's not like I don't want to call him a coward, but he's
- 44:22definitely somebody who tries to avoid conflict. I get the sense, you know.
- 44:28So, yeah, he jumps outside and is looking around and really excited
- 44:31that he's, you know, finally getting fresh air and stuff again. And
- 44:37he looks side to side and nothing is there. It's one of those funny
- 44:40things where, like, you know, there's no possible way you run onto
- 44:45that deck the way that he did and don't see this giant coiled snake,
- 44:50but he has to check left and right, and then in front of him
- 44:53is the huge coiled snake with a skull like draped over its head, adding
- 45:00a whole other level of creepiness to it. And they look up and they
- 45:04see one of the Navy ships next to them, which absolutely dwarfs them by
- 45:08the way, teeny teeny tiny. They just look so insignificant next to it.
- 45:15And they look up and they see Boa Hancock and knowing that she's on
- 45:20the side of the Marines, so they think they are very upset, feeling
- 45:24like, well, shit, we went through all of this and we fucking
- 45:27got caught anyway, and they're worried, but she says, don't worry.
- 45:36I turned all the Navy soldiers to stone and we get to see them all
- 45:40with their little heart eyes falling all over her, and it is just really
- 45:45funny. Still, that's never really gonna get old for me, I don't
- 45:46think. And she wants to know like Louvi's status and whether he's going to
- 45:53recover, and Pepa was just like, wait, how did you know we
- 45:58were going to surface here. I thought the navy was after us and that
- 46:00you were with them, and she says, I made Salome follow you underwater.
- 46:08So yeah, what they wind up doing is heading over to Maiden Island
- 46:17so that there is some place for them to hold up for a little while
- 46:22and for Loofy to recover. When law comes out, he says like,
- 46:25I've done everything I could to stabilize him, but whether he actually recovers depends
- 46:30entirely on his own will to live, basically, And you can see like,
- 46:42how's devastated Boe is. And then you hear Eva yelling it's no wonder
- 46:47Strawboy couldn't even stand up at Impelled Down once, And all of the people
- 46:54on board with Eva are like cheering and saying how much they owe to Loofy
- 47:00because of him. We owe getting out of Impelled Down to him, and
- 47:07now we are going to be able to make the Kama Baka Kingdom come to
- 47:15life and be real. So they are like, all right to the new
- 47:20Kama's home from New Kama Land and they're waving. I love this moment when
- 47:25the guys on deck are like, who are they? What the fuck is
- 47:30going on and Boa just has to explain. She says, they've you know,
- 47:37snuck on the ship. They were his allies. So even it comes
- 47:40down and does a little summersault because he can't help it. I'm surprised he
- 47:46doesn't summersault everywhere, honestly, And he does a little recap about how much
- 47:52Lufy sacrificed in order to save Ace and the fact that Ace died anyway,
- 47:59if there's no justice in the world, and it's really should not be a
- 48:01surprise that he completely lost his marbles basically, like after everything he had been
- 48:08through. So I'm trying not to skip anything here, you guys, because
- 48:15this is sort of setting up what happens next episode. And boah, what
- 48:20a tragedy. I wish I could take his place, poor Loofy. And
- 48:23then she just starts sobbing, and the guys are over here like, oh,
- 48:29I'm jealous. It would be really nice to have her care about you
- 48:31that much, and Law admits he's not like a friend of Lufy's. He
- 48:42said, I didn't have to save him at all. If you're wondering about
- 48:45my motivation, I can come up with a reason. And Eva doesn't want
- 48:52it. Eva says, no, that's okay. Sometimes your instinct tells you
- 48:57what to do, and I was like, no, no, no,
- 49:00no, no, Eva, he was about to offer. He did not
- 49:04say anything about instinct. He has spoken the word reason, which is a
- 49:13that is just a whole different energy. Let the man speak. But of
- 49:16course no, we can't find out this is soon how that went. So
- 49:22I'm spending a lot of time on this episode because really, when you get
- 49:25down to it, guys, this is the episode where like anything happens.
- 49:30The next episode is, in my opinion, the same conversation like four times
- 49:36and then Lufy having a meltdown is really what happens. So first let's go
- 49:44over there and deal with his complete like implosion. Here. The main thing
- 49:52is the fact that we have to get permission from the lady on Maiden Island
- 50:00to get to get into the harbor with all of these men. At first,
- 50:10Boa wants for Hancock wants law to come ashore, and that's when what
- 50:20is her name, Neill? I think now she says essentially like what the
- 50:27fuck has he got that our own doctors haven't got? If you can give
- 50:31me any reason why he should be allowed on our island, I would be
- 50:36willing to listen. But as far as we know, he doesn't have access
- 50:40to like any technology or medicine that we haven't also got access to. So
- 50:46what exactly are we putting ourselves out like that for him for when he hasn't
- 50:53Like, we aren't supposed to let men on the island. That's like a
- 50:59firm law, and we can't just be throwing that to the side because you
- 51:02want to. And so like, eventually the fact that they're even in the
- 51:10harbor or the bay, I don't I can't remember exactly what they call it.
- 51:14Even that starts to become a problem, and there's a lot of conversation.
- 51:21And when I say it's like the same argument over and over, it's
- 51:23really between her and Hancock because they are just at odds right now over what
- 51:31to do. Hancock is in love with Lufy, and so it's like no
- 51:37question to her that she's going to go and help nurse him, that she's
- 51:43going to get food and bring it to him and serve him. All of
- 51:46this is just a given. And she keeps having to be reminded as her
- 51:52position of her position as princess of this island that excludes men and the fact
- 52:00that they shouldn't even be speaking to all of the men. Like there's a
- 52:06few different instances where maidens are bringing supplies to the men on the ships and
- 52:13talking to them for just an extra second it's nothing, and they're getting yelled
- 52:19at and just one of them gets told like have some self respect, when
- 52:25all she said was like make sure to wait your turn, like she was
- 52:30just giving instructions, and she's being treated like she's such a whore for this,
- 52:36you know. And that's really when I say that there's the same argument
- 52:39over. That's what I'm talking about. It's just, well, we need
- 52:43to help them, but there are men, so we can't. Well we
- 52:45need to let them on the island, but they are men, so we
- 52:47can't when we need to do something for them, well they are men,
- 52:51so you aren't allowed to. She's not allowed to. Just back and forth
- 52:55and back and forth and the like. It's sort of frustrating because I just
- 53:07sort of want to be like, why is this really I guess this is
- 53:13the safest place for them because the Marines are still thinking that she is on
- 53:17their side. I'm not really sure how long that can possibly continue. That's
- 53:22the thing is like she really got in the way to keep Loofy safe a
- 53:30lot during that fight, and it's hard to tell how much of that was
- 53:35actually witnessed by anybody, Like is it going to be reported back that she
- 53:40just completely threw in for him or I don't know how long it will take
- 53:47and whether they'll think to come here for Loofy you know. Oh yeah,
- 53:54this is when the ladies come up with all of the food, and it's
- 53:58the giant tech who is saying, please don't push and wait for your turn,
- 54:04and uh yeah, afha, Landre gets yelled at don't talk to men.
- 54:10Lufy is the exception because of the Princess's decree? And I'm kind of
- 54:16concerned, guys that what we're getting here is going to be the eventual reversal
- 54:24of the law against men. Look, I know that probably it's supposed to
- 54:34be like a good thing, but I can't help but think it isn't.
- 54:42Like you know what I'm saying. I just really feel that maybe we should
- 54:47just have some islands that are all women and have that be how it is
- 54:52sometimes and let that continue to be a refuge away. I That's all I'm
- 55:01gonna say about that. So That's just my concern is that, like,
- 55:07as everything sort of progresses, I don't know if Lufy is going to be
- 55:13able to leave this place by the time. Like I'm still imagining his friends
- 55:17trying to meet up with him. I don't even know if that's true,
- 55:21because the way that we saw things going in a lot of their povs,
- 55:25they were just trying to like get by and they weren't attempt like actually traveling,
- 55:31So that may not be even a factor. There may be something else
- 55:36that like winds up bringing them back together. But I'm starting to really believe.
- 55:42I thought, Okay, we're gonna have the arc without everybody in you
- 55:47know, impeled down, and then we got to the marine headquarters and it
- 55:52continued, and I was like, Okay, well then we'll have to wait
- 55:54for this to resolve. And now that's basically resolved, and I'm starting to
- 56:01be like, are we getting another arc without his friends? Like? How
- 56:06long are we going to be separated? This has been a really really long
- 56:09time now. But Okay, Loofy, for his part, who's being kept
- 56:20on the equivalent of like life support, is really struggling. We see him
- 56:28sort of having these like nightmares remembering like Ace telling him that you always do
- 56:34such crazy shit and you never listen to me. We have him witnessing Ace's
- 56:39death and just like kind of there's a real sense of like PTSD basically happening
- 56:52here. And eventually he comes out of the room and the whole ship is
- 56:59sort of rocking because of the emotions that he's having, I think. But
- 57:05he stumbles out complete head to toe bandages, covered in sweat, and he
- 57:13just says Ace, and all of a sudden comes like there's an explosion from
- 57:20the submarine. He comes flying out of it and he hits the ground like
- 57:25a wrecking ball, which you know, really should kill him, but he's
- 57:30loofy, so it doesn't. And it just leads to Law saying like,
- 57:37if he keeps moving around like he is, he's going to break his stitches
- 57:40and then he probably will bleed out. But it's suggested I think that the
- 57:47implication is supposed to be that his emotions from his grief cause him to be
- 57:55able to like just break out of the top of the submarine, which I
- 58:00am I have a lot of questions about, and I'm wondering whether that's something
- 58:05that's going to occur again or what because that's a pretty that's a wild ability
- 58:13to suddenly have. And he screams, wears ace, and everything like shakes
- 58:22in that moment and the like whole he is coming to terms with what happened,
- 58:32but it's sort of happening alongside him, arguing with himself that it wasn't
- 58:38real, that it couldn't have gone that way, and uh yeah, the
- 58:43amount of damage that he's doing. He basically like punches a tree in half
- 58:49and is standing there with like blood pouring off his fist. This dude is
- 58:53not in a good place. And when he punches that, you see his
- 59:00like eyes and they're doing that thing where the pupils are like multiple lines,
- 59:06and then all of a sudden, he sort of comes back to himself and
- 59:08his eye becomes solid again, and he looks up and says, wait,
- 59:14where am I? Maybe that was all a dream after all, And then
- 59:20all of a sudden everything turns like black and white as he remembers again,
- 59:24and he just dissolves into sobbing tears. And when his friends gather around him,
- 59:34like he gets very defensive and it's like, you know, you guys
- 59:43think that I don't know what's going on. Do you think that I am
- 59:47in denial about it, that I don't believe it? You know, I
- 59:52know that this isn't a dream. I know that this is all really happening.
- 59:58If it were a dream, I would have woken up by now.
- 1:00:02And I just really, guys, I'm gonna be honest. I'm not trying
- 1:00:08to say that this display from Lufy is unjustified, but I am saying that
- 1:00:15the casualness with which Lufy dismissed Ace's viver card being so small and on fire
- 1:00:28way back when things were really starting to go left, in the light of
- 1:00:31his reaction here is surprising. I feel like maybe he should have given more
- 1:00:39of a shit when all of that was initially going on. You know,
- 1:00:45That's all I'm saying is just you put things off, man in a weird
- 1:00:50way that fell out of character to me. And I don't know if we're
- 1:00:53gonna find out like or maybe there was a mention even already of Ace having
- 1:01:00told him like not to try and jump in and help. But I just
- 1:01:04kind of keep thinking about the moment and how it felt false to me at
- 1:01:10the time, and seeing the way that Lufy is losing his mind over losing
- 1:01:15ace. Now, I am sort of like, well, if he meant
- 1:01:20this much to you, then why weren't you more worried? Dude? You
- 1:01:24know, like I don't. I'm not trying to say necessarily that things would
- 1:01:30have gone a totally different way if he had cared. Saying cared is harsh
- 1:01:35if he had taken action, but maybe they would have. I don't know
- 1:01:40so anyway, all right, I've got to wrap up, But thank you
- 1:01:44guys so much again for commissioning these, for hanging out with me, for
- 1:01:46listening. I really hope y'all are enjoying the coverage, And until next time
- 1:01:52to the lou motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network
