- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one hundred and ten
- 0:20Speaker 1: of Cards and Categories. I'm my Cool Art of Rasball,
- 0:23Speaker 1: joined as always by my very good friend at Jeremy Burr,
- 0:26Speaker 1: also from Rasball.
- 0:27Speaker 2: It is playoff time, buddy. We did it. We've made it.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We've finished all of our fantasy seasons, some of us
- 0:33Speaker 1: more successfully than others based on some of the Fenmo
- 0:35Speaker 1: payments I had to make.
- 0:36Speaker 2: To you this week. So we are officially in the
- 0:40Speaker 2: off season, in the postseason.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So this is one of my favorite days. All these
- 0:45Speaker 1: like back to back to back wild card days. It
- 0:47Speaker 1: is just like mainstreaming, mainlining tons of great baseball, and
- 0:52Speaker 1: we've had some fantastic series to kick us off.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Humh yeah. And you're absolutely right to be able to
- 0:57Speaker 3: watch all day baseball NonStop. It's it's it's like the
- 1:01Speaker 3: second my second favorite time to trade deadline, where you
- 1:04Speaker 3: can watch baseball NonStop throughout the day when there's no
- 1:07Speaker 3: actual baseball, just talking about all the potential trades. But
- 1:11Speaker 3: this wild card baseball is just fun. Uh. I love
- 1:17Speaker 3: the way tactics change. I love the way that people
- 1:21Speaker 3: have quick hooks or ride your ace like and there's
- 1:24Speaker 3: just there's there's no right decision until you make the
- 1:28Speaker 3: wrong one type of thing because you're like, no, I
- 1:31Speaker 3: got you know, am I gonna ride uh Max Fraid
- 1:35Speaker 3: to the to the to the ninth or do I
- 1:38Speaker 3: hate it to Luke Weaver and see what happens? And uh,
- 1:41Speaker 3: you were right until you were wrong on that one.
- 1:44Speaker 3: But I'm I'm excited to see And at this point,
- 1:48Speaker 3: it looks like we've got a wide open, wide open
- 1:50Speaker 3: playoff race, that's for sure.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I mean, there really weren't any super teams all season.
- 1:55Speaker 1: The Dodgers didn't quite live up to expectations. The Astros
- 1:58Speaker 1: aren't in the playoffs this year, which is great that
- 2:00Speaker 1: it feels so refreshing not having that Astros team around
- 2:04Speaker 1: as well as like, I think the story of this
- 2:07Speaker 1: year's playoffs will be a little bit of You've got
- 2:09Speaker 1: three teams who I think have really good chances of
- 2:13Speaker 1: winning their first World Series all time. Between Seattle, Milwaukee
- 2:16Speaker 1: and San Diego. They're pretty well positioned. Seattle in Milwaukee
- 2:21Speaker 1: obviously have those buys, and San Diego just tied up
- 2:25Speaker 1: their game today with the Cubs. I guess I should
- 2:27Speaker 1: probably tell everybody we are recording this, it's roughly nine
- 2:31Speaker 1: pm Central time as we're starting here on ten to
- 2:35Speaker 1: one October first, so we have seen the first three
- 2:40Speaker 1: of Game two wild Cards happened today where all the
- 2:44Speaker 1: teams that lost yesterday on Tuesday have tied it up.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And so right now the Reds are up to nothing
- 2:50Speaker 1: on the Dodgers, so they might pull off the full sweep.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We might get a full set of game threes tomorrow
- 2:56Speaker 1: on Thursday, which would be absolutely incredible to have eight
- 3:00Speaker 1: days of all just back to back to back to back.
- 3:04Speaker 2: That's for them, right. I think I said enough through wild.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Card games across the board to really push us into
- 3:11Speaker 1: the highest mo like highest potential leverage options that we
- 3:16Speaker 1: can get. And so the other benefit to us is
- 3:19Speaker 1: because we're recording this on the Wednesday, we didn't have
- 3:22Speaker 1: to record on Monday to be able to get in
- 3:23Speaker 1: like our picks. We can still kind of make them.
- 3:26Speaker 1: We've got even series across the board, and I mean,
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Reds are giving the Dodgers a good run for
- 3:32Speaker 1: their money compared to what I think we would have expected.
- 3:35Speaker 2: So we can do full brackets of picks for the postseason.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So I figured we would start off there that I'll
- 3:42Speaker 2: hand it over to you. What are you feeling for
- 3:45Speaker 2: your brackets and if you want to fall along go
- 3:47Speaker 2: into the show notes on this podcast. I've got a
- 3:49Speaker 2: link right to the postseason brackets so that you can
- 3:52Speaker 2: kind of see where we're talking about. We'll probably start
- 3:56Speaker 2: upper left of the traditional bracket, which goes on the
- 3:58Speaker 2: al side because for some reason, I don't know are
- 4:02Speaker 2: you a left side or right side al guy, because
- 4:05Speaker 2: it almost depends on me. I feel like on the
- 4:07Speaker 2: paper that you've read reading out or.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Grow growing up, the American League was always on the
- 4:12Speaker 3: right side for you, okay, American guy.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Weird?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so I don't know what it is, but yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 3: I'm throwing off looking at the bracket on it'll be
- 4:20Speaker 3: dot Com because the NL should be on the left side.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So I didn't realize this was a thing. I didn't
- 4:26Speaker 3: realize this is a debate. I didn't realize anybody saw
- 4:29Speaker 3: the world differently than I did. I've questioned a lot
- 4:33Speaker 3: of things.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Right now, my standing sport behind me on my wall. Yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 2: it's Ale on the left side, so it is I'm
- 4:40Speaker 2: ale left side guy. You read left to right A
- 4:42Speaker 2: becomes before n I think that's part of it. But
- 4:45Speaker 2: I'll let you pick your bracket. You run through what
- 4:47Speaker 2: you've got, what you're feeling, right, is this moment, even
- 4:51Speaker 2: if maybe some of these moments in the first two
- 4:54Speaker 2: games that have happened across the board and the wild
- 4:56Speaker 2: card series have swayed you at all.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Yeah, So, well we'll go American League first, then we'll
- 5:03Speaker 3: go nationally. You want to run the whole bracket, you
- 5:06Speaker 3: want the whole thing.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You want to do the wild card or let's do
- 5:10Speaker 1: league by let's do let's do league by league.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you do AL, I'll do AL. Then we'll do
- 5:15Speaker 2: n L n L and then pick our work series.
- 5:18Speaker 3: All right, So for me, and I fully admitting taking
- 5:22Speaker 3: a little bit of what's already happened in the play here.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Uh In, So we got the Guardians Tiger series. For me,
- 5:29Speaker 3: it as much as it actually feels wrong how the
- 5:31Speaker 3: end of the season ended, I've got the Tigers. I'm
- 5:34Speaker 3: picking the Tigers. I think Flarity going uh in that
- 5:37Speaker 3: last game, big game, Flarity. I don't think it's really
- 5:40Speaker 3: his nickname, but I think he's going to be the
- 5:42Speaker 3: guy that really can can carry that team. He's got
- 5:45Speaker 3: a mean streak. I think that he brings it home.
- 5:46Speaker 3: So I've got the Tigers winning that series. On the
- 5:50Speaker 3: bottom portion of the bracket, the Red Sox Yankees. For me,
- 5:53Speaker 3: I don't know if why, but it feels like a
- 5:55Speaker 3: pretty easy pick here. I've got the Red Sox uh
- 5:57Speaker 3: taking it to the Yankees uh in that game. I
- 6:01Speaker 3: just think that the Red Sox are a much more
- 6:02Speaker 3: complete team. The Yankees might have more firepower at the
- 6:05Speaker 3: end of the day, but I think the bullpen scares
- 6:07Speaker 3: of the Jesus out of me, and they also can
- 6:11Speaker 3: be a little bit hit or miss overall, even though
- 6:15Speaker 3: they you know, we're probably one of the most domined teams.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I think they have the second best run differential this year.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I still am going to go with the Red Sox,
- 6:22Speaker 3: so I'm taking the two higher seeds leading into this.
- 6:28Speaker 3: From there, that leaves me to Seattle against Detroit. I
- 6:34Speaker 3: am going to go with Seattle. I think Seattle. I'm
- 6:38Speaker 3: actually a little bit worried about Seattle in a shorter series.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I like Seattle little longer series. I think they have
- 6:43Speaker 3: a really good depth. They're pitching staff's good. I do
- 6:47Speaker 3: think bullpen's playing a huge role, and I think you
- 6:50Speaker 3: could argue Seattle has one of the best bullpens, at
- 6:53Speaker 3: least in the American League. There's there's another good bullpen
- 6:55Speaker 3: on the or too, actually on the NL side of things.
- 6:59Speaker 3: But so I've got Seattle going to the Alcs. Coming
- 7:03Speaker 3: across the other side of things, we have an all
- 7:05Speaker 3: Ale East bottom half of the re of the bracket here,
- 7:09Speaker 3: So I would have Boston against Toronto. I would be
- 7:14Speaker 3: taking Boston. Again, I think Toronto, I don't think they
- 7:18Speaker 3: have the firepower. They're a steady team. I think they're
- 7:22Speaker 3: a relative balanced team, but I don't think they have
- 7:25Speaker 3: the firepower. They don't have the frontline starters. You got
- 7:27Speaker 3: Garrett Crochet pitching, you got guys like kind only early
- 7:31Speaker 3: that just kind of come on for the Red Sox. Like,
- 7:33Speaker 3: I think you have a better rotation, more firepower from
- 7:37Speaker 3: the Red Sox, and it I don't know why, it
- 7:40Speaker 3: just feels like they are coming on at the right time.
- 7:42Speaker 3: So I got the Red Sox there, So that gives
- 7:46Speaker 3: me a Red Sox against Seattle Alcs, and I think
- 7:51Speaker 3: those two teams are actually pretty pretty well matched. That said,
- 7:57Speaker 3: I'm gonna go out on a limb and I'm going
- 7:58Speaker 3: to take the Seattle Mariners. I'm gonna put the Mariners
- 8:02Speaker 3: in the World Series here. I just I like their
- 8:05Speaker 3: overall pitching staff a little bit better. I also think
- 8:08Speaker 3: they got a little chip on their shoulder, and I
- 8:11Speaker 3: think ultimately it's gonna come down to give us the bullpen,
- 8:15Speaker 3: and that Seattle bullpen, between Muno's brash gave Spire a
- 8:23Speaker 3: few other guys, is just gonna be untouchable in the postseason.
- 8:27Speaker 3: So I'm gonna end up with Seattle in the World
- 8:30Speaker 3: Series from the American League as a number two scene.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Oh right, I like it. That is pretty solid. I
- 8:37Speaker 2: think we're gonna be pretty close.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So I will say that I don't think that any
- 8:43Speaker 1: of the games that we've seen so far have swayed
- 8:47Speaker 1: what my original picks would have been from Monday, so
- 8:50Speaker 1: that is helpful. Between Detroit and Cleveland, I also have
- 8:54Speaker 1: to go Detroit. I think, you know, the Guardians there
- 8:58Speaker 1: do get a lot of credit oftentimes for that bullpen
- 9:01Speaker 1: that they have, but they've already used it pretty well
- 9:04Speaker 1: over the first two games, so I think Detroit's going
- 9:07Speaker 1: to be able to really shorten that game up and
- 9:10Speaker 1: be able to find a way to pull through there
- 9:12Speaker 1: as well as that Cleveland offense is just luck and
- 9:17Speaker 1: total luck base. You know, if it wasn't for the
- 9:20Speaker 1: eighth inning today where they kind of cracked open Troy Melton,
- 9:24Speaker 1: I think they would still be struggling to score runs.
- 9:26Speaker 2: So I'm going Detroit there. Then you're looking at Boston,
- 9:30Speaker 2: New York. I'm going Boston as well.
- 9:32Speaker 1: And I think the reason I'm doing that is we've
- 9:36Speaker 1: seen this already a little bit in the first two
- 9:38Speaker 1: games for the Yankees, is that the fundamentals are really
- 9:43Speaker 1: going to make this game tight between Like one, Aaron
- 9:46Speaker 1: Boone just has no feel for when to take a
- 9:49Speaker 1: picture out of a game. It happened in Game one
- 9:50Speaker 1: when he pulled Max free to early. Game two, he
- 9:53Speaker 1: did it the opposite where he left Rodon in for
- 9:56Speaker 1: too long and then he worked himself into a jam.
- 10:00Speaker 1: You could also see, like you know, just the infield
- 10:03Speaker 1: defense and stuff. It's not sharp, and I think it's
- 10:06Speaker 1: gonna fall apart for the Yankees. So I like Boston there.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Between Detroit and Seattle.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I'm also going to Seattle.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Seattle is a hot team, and I mean, we'll get
- 10:17Speaker 1: into it, but I don't They're gonna be tough to stop,
- 10:20Speaker 1: so I think that's a pretty easy pick. I am
- 10:22Speaker 1: gonna pick Toronto over Boston though, because this has shown
- 10:27Speaker 1: it's had a little bit in the Yankees series already.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Is the bottom two thirds of that Boston lineup is rough,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and so it's gonna be easy, I think to mix
- 10:38Speaker 1: and match pitchers, and Toronto just has the better lineup
- 10:42Speaker 1: top to bottom and the better bench that I think
- 10:44Speaker 1: to be able to put things together. And you know,
- 10:47Speaker 1: it's kind of the time for that Toronto Blue Jays
- 10:50Speaker 1: team to step forward. So that gives me Mariners, Blue
- 10:52Speaker 1: Jays and the Alcs, And I'm right with you. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: love this Mariner's team. I think it's a really solid team.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You've got so much great pitching. The offense has really
- 11:02Speaker 1: started clicking at the right time, and it's really gotten
- 11:06Speaker 1: a lot deeper with you Hano Suarez there too. Don't
- 11:10Speaker 1: underrate JP Crawford hitting on the nine hole too. And
- 11:13Speaker 1: so I'm sending the Seattle Nanners for the World Series
- 11:16Speaker 1: for their first time along with you.
- 11:17Speaker 2: So uh, let's go over to that and outside.
- 11:20Speaker 1: So uh, you're gonna start top right with Cincinnati LA
- 11:24Speaker 1: and work your way down.
- 11:25Speaker 3: All right, Well, I'm gonna start, you know, Cincinnati la here,
- 11:29Speaker 3: I got it. It's I think it's too easy. I'm
- 11:31Speaker 3: gonna I gotta stick with the Dodgers here. I don't
- 11:33Speaker 3: think you can bet against Otani, just Otani himself, ignore
- 11:37Speaker 3: everybody else on that team. I just don't think you
- 11:38Speaker 3: bet against Otani against Cincinnati. I think it's a Snazi
- 11:42Speaker 3: great story. I think they actually have a lot of
- 11:43Speaker 3: firepower and a lot of potential. I just don't think
- 11:46Speaker 3: they can match up against against the Dodgers team, even
- 11:48Speaker 3: as the warts that they do have, they're not the
- 11:50Speaker 3: same Dodgers team we've had the last few years. Going
- 11:54Speaker 3: down to the Padres Cubs series, this might just be
- 11:58Speaker 3: because I'm not a Cubs fan. It might just be
- 12:01Speaker 3: because I like the Padres bullpen, But I'm gonna go
- 12:03Speaker 3: with the Padres over the Cubs here. I just don't
- 12:05Speaker 3: think the Cubs have enough stain power, enough firepower, enough
- 12:10Speaker 3: star power to really and especially in the in that
- 12:12Speaker 3: short series, They're not gonna be able to hold hold
- 12:16Speaker 3: things through there. So it gives me l A against
- 12:19Speaker 3: the Phillies. This, this one's a tough one for me.
- 12:23Speaker 3: L A against the Phillies because I think the Phillies
- 12:25Speaker 3: are a pretty deep team. They have a really really
- 12:28Speaker 3: good bullpen, they have a pretty strong lineup top to bottom.
- 12:35Speaker 3: But there their rotation, it's it's a little cardiac that
- 12:39Speaker 3: and that's where where I struggle with them. So I'm
- 12:43Speaker 3: gonna give the nod to the Dodgers over the Phillies,
- 12:46Speaker 3: but just barely. Like I that's a that's a seven
- 12:49Speaker 3: game series, and there's a pitch Well five game series.
- 12:55Speaker 3: It's a it's a full series. It's a full series,
- 12:58Speaker 3: but I think that one's going going the distance. Then
- 13:03Speaker 3: on the flip side here Padres against Brewers, I just
- 13:07Speaker 3: I can't go against the Brewers magic right now. Like
- 13:10Speaker 3: if I compare the teams, like the Padres, I like
- 13:13Speaker 3: their pitching staff, I like the top half of the lineup.
- 13:16Speaker 3: The bottom half leaves a little bit bit to be desired.
- 13:20Speaker 3: You look at the Brewers and you can kind of
- 13:21Speaker 3: say the same thing about a lot of portions of
- 13:23Speaker 3: the Brewers, but overall, they just continue to seem to
- 13:26Speaker 3: get it done and somebody's always stepping up. I think
- 13:29Speaker 3: they're probably the most complete team in the playoffs tier.
- 13:33Speaker 3: So I'm gonna give it to the Brewers. Gives us
- 13:36Speaker 3: the Dodgers against the Brewers in the NLCS, and I'm
- 13:43Speaker 3: going on a limb here. I think the Brewers are
- 13:45Speaker 3: going to knock off the Dodgers. I think the Brewers
- 13:49Speaker 3: are such a well rounded team. They just there's something
- 13:53Speaker 3: about this Brewers team that just seems that they are
- 13:56Speaker 3: just cannot slow down and any on their backs in
- 14:00Speaker 3: the corner. They just seem to figure it out. Like
- 14:03Speaker 3: I said, it's it's you look at the team and
- 14:05Speaker 3: it's not like they're unbelievable. Their their rotation is not crazy.
- 14:09Speaker 3: It's Freddy Peralta and a handful of guys and somehow
- 14:13Speaker 3: all started Jacob Mizerowski right there. There's not a ton there.
- 14:16Speaker 3: The the lineup is really solid, but you're still relying
- 14:20Speaker 3: on some guys like Andrew Vaughn and and Caleb Durman
- 14:23Speaker 3: and stuff like can they can they make it happen?
- 14:25Speaker 3: But they just continue to get it done. And they
- 14:28Speaker 3: have a decent, decent bullpen there with mcguil, your Rebey,
- 14:34Speaker 3: a handful of other guys. So I'm gonna take the
- 14:37Speaker 3: Brewers over the Dodgers. That'll give me a Seattle Mariners
- 14:41Speaker 3: Milwaukee Brewers World Series. That feels odd, but that's that's
- 14:46Speaker 3: where where where it takes me.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a fun World series just in terms of
- 14:51Speaker 1: lots of narrative arcs between the Brewers originally.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Being the Seattle pilots and then moving.
- 14:56Speaker 1: To Milwaukee, lots of Navy blue if you do that matchup,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and then you're guaranteed a first time World Series winner
- 15:03Speaker 1: as a franchise walking away with that matchup. So I like,
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's a it's a cool World Series matchup, all right
- 15:11Speaker 1: for my NL. I'm also going Doctor silver Rad's. I
- 15:14Speaker 1: don't think I'd really need to explain myself.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Too much there.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It's a pretty straightforward series. I'm also going Padres over Cubs,
- 15:22Speaker 1: and I think today's game actually, in the first game two,
- 15:25Speaker 1: the Cubs can't hit fastballs. I don't it's a weird
- 15:30Speaker 1: flaw for a team to have, but when you look
- 15:33Speaker 1: at the competition they had in their division all season,
- 15:36Speaker 1: they never really had to face any fastballs, like outside
- 15:39Speaker 1: of Hunter Green, who has hurt a lot. So it's
- 15:42Speaker 1: really I think catching up to the Cubs now. And
- 15:45Speaker 1: that's that pitching staff is a lot more made out
- 15:49Speaker 1: of like Balsa would than you would think it made
- 15:52Speaker 1: its way through the season, but it's not like a
- 15:54Speaker 1: big game, playoff type of rotation, which I mean has
- 15:58Speaker 1: kind of been the Cubs most they won the World
- 16:01Speaker 1: Series in twenty sixteen. So you wonder if Jed Hoyer
- 16:04Speaker 1: addresses that in the offseason. So that gives me Dodgers
- 16:08Speaker 1: Phillies for my first NLDES matchup, and I'm gonna go
- 16:12Speaker 1: Dodgers here. I think a lot of the reasons that
- 16:15Speaker 1: you stated, but also just know Zach Wheeler really takes
- 16:18Speaker 1: the wind out of the Philly sales there.
- 16:20Speaker 2: And I do. Even though the Dodgers' bullpen has been
- 16:24Speaker 2: so bad all year, I think they find a way
- 16:28Speaker 2: to actually be a solid bullpen down the stretch and
- 16:33Speaker 2: are able to beat the Phillies because of that. Between
- 16:38Speaker 2: the Padres and the Brewers, I'm gonna go Padres over
- 16:41Speaker 2: the Brewers. Just I like that bullpen a lot for
- 16:44Speaker 2: the Padres. I like the star power MANI ma Chado
- 16:46Speaker 2: hitting that homer today and Wrigley and they had to
- 16:50Speaker 2: you couldn't hear anything after the first like fifteen seconds
- 16:52Speaker 2: after he jacked that tater because he's just dropping f
- 16:55Speaker 2: bombs everywhere. I think that the Padres are just look better.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And it's the same thing with the Brewers pitching there
- 17:05Speaker 2: as I think with the Phillies pitching, where it held
- 17:08Speaker 2: up all season, but when you put into kind of
- 17:09Speaker 2: high pressure cooker situations, I'm just not sure if it'll
- 17:13Speaker 2: work in the same sort of facet. So that gives
- 17:16Speaker 2: me Padres Dodgers in my NLCS, and I'm gonna go
- 17:20Speaker 2: Dodgers again.
- 17:21Speaker 1: It's this team is built for this. You can already
- 17:25Speaker 1: see it, I think even Game one and as we're talking, now,
- 17:28Speaker 1: what's the score, It is three to two Dodgers. So
- 17:32Speaker 1: that flipped pretty fast in the twenty minutes that we
- 17:34Speaker 1: were talking. Fifteen minutes we were talking. This team is
- 17:38Speaker 1: made for the playoff run, and so I think they're
- 17:42Speaker 1: just gonna kick it into a higher gear. It's kind
- 17:44Speaker 1: of like a little bit like a you know, an
- 17:46Speaker 1: NBA style team where they knew they just had to
- 17:49Speaker 1: make the playoffs and make the dance. And now they
- 17:51Speaker 1: can totally round into the form that they want. And
- 17:54Speaker 1: so that gives me a Mariners Dodgers World Series on
- 17:58Speaker 1: the West Coast.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Well, I can't really disagree with you. I just couldn't
- 18:02Speaker 3: pick the Dodgers. Again, maybe not a principle here, but like, yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 3: you're very very fair, so that that would be a
- 18:09Speaker 3: fun series as well, be a few late nights being
- 18:12Speaker 3: a full West West Coast series, but it still will
- 18:15Speaker 3: be very fun to watch. So all right, we got
- 18:19Speaker 3: our world series.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Should I count should count? Count us down?
- 18:23Speaker 3: And we we stayed who we want? Yeah, and we
- 18:26Speaker 3: had city name or team name? What are we doing here?
- 18:29Speaker 3: I'm going to go team name, let's team name? Yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 3: all right, count us down? All right?
- 18:33Speaker 1: In three two one Mary Dodgers. Yeah, okay, Yeah, I
- 18:40Speaker 1: think that's great. It's a I think it's going to
- 18:42Speaker 1: be a slug fest. So I think, yeah, I think
- 18:46Speaker 1: Seattle's a very worthy team, and I think it just
- 18:51Speaker 1: goes to what I'm saying, like this Dodgers team is
- 18:53Speaker 1: built to win championships.
- 18:55Speaker 2: But I waffled back.
- 18:57Speaker 1: And forth a lot before, Like I was thinking of
- 19:00Speaker 1: this on Monday, and it's just tough to take Seattle
- 19:03Speaker 1: over the Dodgers.
- 19:04Speaker 2: But what do you like about the Mariners?
- 19:06Speaker 3: It really it comes down to their pitching staff. I think,
- 19:10Speaker 3: you know, don't get me wrong, there's a pretty good
- 19:12Speaker 3: lineup here. They've got Kyle Rally, got heoswarazitt in six,
- 19:16Speaker 3: Like this is dynamic, and we haven't even I feel
- 19:19Speaker 3: like we haven't talked about whoever is the entire season. Uh.
- 19:22Speaker 3: And he's had a good pretty much good season. Uh.
- 19:25Speaker 3: But when you're especially those longer series, in the seven
- 19:28Speaker 3: game series, and you're looking at this rotation that has
- 19:32Speaker 3: Brian Wu, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, like any
- 19:37Speaker 3: of those guys can be shut down and really just
- 19:41Speaker 3: take take those bats from the Dodgers or the Brewers
- 19:45Speaker 3: in my situation out and then that bullpen, like you
- 19:51Speaker 3: just have to get through like the sixth inning, maybe
- 19:53Speaker 3: the fifth inning, and you can hand it over to
- 19:56Speaker 3: that bullpen. And Minos is mainly a one guy. Brash
- 20:00Speaker 3: can go a few innings. Like I said, I'm a
- 20:02Speaker 3: huge fan of game spire. He can go a few
- 20:05Speaker 3: innings and there's just a lot of a lot of
- 20:09Speaker 3: neutralization of an offense that they can do. So I
- 20:13Speaker 3: think between that and the and the the kind of
- 20:16Speaker 3: just crazy run they've been on with the cow Rally train,
- 20:19Speaker 3: I don't think there's a way that the season should
- 20:21Speaker 3: end without the Marriers really taking this home. So yeah,
- 20:25Speaker 3: I I I kind of get the Dodgers pick. It's
- 20:27Speaker 3: that's the I don't want to call it the easy pick,
- 20:29Speaker 3: but it's it's it's like if you had, like if
- 20:31Speaker 3: you had to put a bet on this one, You're like,
- 20:34Speaker 3: do I want to take the Mariners of the field
- 20:36Speaker 3: and like probably take the field and take the Dodge
- 20:38Speaker 3: of the field. Like, you know, I get the argument
- 20:42Speaker 3: for for the Dodgers, because you're right, they are kind
- 20:44Speaker 3: of built built for this, and they're gonna put their
- 20:48Speaker 3: best guys out there, and those guys love the spotlight.
- 20:52Speaker 3: And at the end of the day, it's still gonna
- 20:53Speaker 3: be a role player. It's gonna be a task or
- 20:55Speaker 3: Hernandez or something like that. That's gonna you know, watch
- 20:57Speaker 3: a few homers in the first game and and and
- 20:59Speaker 3: make some make some noise.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it's gonna be well. I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and Enrique Hernandez actually he's the one that tied up
- 21:07Speaker 1: the game as we're speaking, so like playoff, Enrique is
- 21:10Speaker 1: not something to be messed with. And I mean I
- 21:14Speaker 1: think he's just gonna steamroll his way through this as well.
- 21:17Speaker 2: As like they aren't.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Even using will Smith to overcome the Reds here, like
- 21:22Speaker 1: they might not even fully need him in the DS
- 21:25Speaker 1: either that they can rest him a little bit. And
- 21:27Speaker 1: like I said, I mean, I do think that they're
- 21:29Speaker 1: gonna find some sort of groove with that bullpen, and
- 21:33Speaker 1: you know, I think that you're gonna see Otani deployed
- 21:36Speaker 1: in very creative ways as the Dodgers move further and
- 21:39Speaker 1: further into the playoffs, because especially that last start that
- 21:44Speaker 1: Otani had before they the regular season ended, like it
- 21:47Speaker 1: is like elite, elite, you know, Garrett Crochet level stuff
- 21:53Speaker 1: that we're getting out of Otani. And I think that
- 21:55Speaker 1: they're going to find a way to make sure he's
- 22:00Speaker 1: relief when they need him, like he pitched in the
- 22:02Speaker 1: WBC for Japan. And just like when you hit that
- 22:06Speaker 1: homer in his first at bat yesterday too, You're just like,
- 22:09Speaker 1: this just feels inevitable. It feels a lot like yeah,
- 22:13Speaker 1: Thanos in the Avengers just kind of coming through. So
- 22:16Speaker 1: you know, eventually you'll they'll run out of steam. But
- 22:18Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a couple more years that
- 22:20Speaker 1: the Dodgers have this magic.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Yeah, there's nothing like a guy, you know, going fifty
- 22:24Speaker 3: to twenty in the regular season, also pitching coming off
- 22:27Speaker 3: of like arm surgery that feels like a down year somehow,
- 22:30Speaker 3: Like which instill is gonna win an MVP? Right, That's
- 22:34Speaker 3: that's that's the the ore that is Otani at this point.
- 22:39Speaker 3: It's just you can't you can't hold a candle to
- 22:41Speaker 3: it exactly.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So Okay, I think it'll be fascinating because uh yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 1: it it'd be great if the Mariners won their first
- 22:48Speaker 1: World Series.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Two.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I'm written for that as well, So at least I
- 22:51Speaker 1: want them to get that pennant because I think they're
- 22:54Speaker 1: the only team in Major League right now that it's
- 22:57Speaker 1: never even been to a World Series. Yeah, I think so,
- 23:00Speaker 1: So it'd be great to see them cross that threshold
- 23:04Speaker 1: at least. Okay, Well, we've got a couple of other
- 23:07Speaker 1: bits and bobs to talk about while we are catching up,
- 23:11Speaker 1: so especially kind of playoff focused. We've got a few
- 23:15Speaker 1: things going on, and then a few card shufflings as well,
- 23:19Speaker 1: and then even some off season kind of move stuff.
- 23:22Speaker 1: So I figured we touch on that a little bit
- 23:24Speaker 1: before we kind of wrap up this relatively quick episode.
- 23:28Speaker 1: But we wanted to make sure that everybody knew what
- 23:30Speaker 1: our playoff picks were. Put them out there on the
- 23:33Speaker 1: record as we set ourselves up for another fantastic offseason
- 23:37Speaker 1: here on cards and categories. We're gonna be running all
- 23:40Speaker 1: winter long. We're gonna have all sorts of discussion on
- 23:43Speaker 1: new card releases. We'll have the September Player of the
- 23:46Speaker 1: Month PC to do, We'll still have Awards PC to do.
- 23:50Speaker 1: So we're gonna have lots of great content as we
- 23:52Speaker 1: go all throughout the winter.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Let's get into those news and notes.
- 23:56Speaker 1: The first one, it actually probably should have brought it
- 24:00Speaker 1: up when we were talking Guards Tigers, is the Cleveland
- 24:03Speaker 1: Guardians put Chase the Latter on their playoff roster, their
- 24:08Speaker 1: postseason roster, so he debuted in the playoffs and it
- 24:14Speaker 1: did not go well for him. Today out the gate
- 24:16Speaker 1: when he got his first start and appearance, was out
- 24:21Speaker 1: in center field in the first inning, dropped the first
- 24:23Speaker 1: fly ball that came at him, and it was just
- 24:25Speaker 1: really funny on the broadcast because they were talking about
- 24:28Speaker 1: how difficult it is to play center field, especially in
- 24:31Speaker 1: a major league stadium for the first time. You know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: think about that.
- 24:34Speaker 2: The latter's probably never played in too many places that
- 24:37Speaker 2: have a third deck. It was windy in Cleveland, and
- 24:40Speaker 2: on top of it, Chase the Latter is not as
- 24:42Speaker 2: center fielder normally. He played a lot of corner in
- 24:44Speaker 2: thh down in Triple A. Was also just hurt all
- 24:49Speaker 2: the time because you know, it's Chased the lotter. What
- 24:51Speaker 2: else is he going to do?
- 24:52Speaker 1: So the Guardians, we alluded to it when we were
- 24:56Speaker 1: both picking the Tigers. The offense blows like it an
- 25:00Speaker 1: off offense. It was the second worst in the league
- 25:03Speaker 1: to the Rockies, so they needed to try to infuse something.
- 25:07Speaker 1: That's where de Latter came in. After hitting two seventy eight,
- 25:10Speaker 1: three eighty three, four seventy six at Triple A this
- 25:13Speaker 1: year that was a one thirty one WRC plus but
- 25:16Speaker 1: hadn't played since July eleventh because he was out for
- 25:21Speaker 1: all the various ailments.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I don't remember which one it was, it's yes.
- 25:26Speaker 1: So what do you think about this move for the Guardians?
- 25:31Speaker 1: Do you think it could pay off for them? That
- 25:33Speaker 1: they will upset the Tigers go against the grain of
- 25:36Speaker 1: our picks. And then what do you think this means
- 25:38Speaker 1: for de Latter going forward? Are you actually moving him
- 25:41Speaker 1: up maybe in your rankings and draft boards for the
- 25:44Speaker 1: off season, because you see that the Guardians believe in
- 25:48Speaker 1: him and might just be giving a job out the
- 25:51Speaker 1: gate next year.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I think first round playoff perspective. Actually, I love
- 25:55Speaker 3: the move. I think it's a great move, Like it's
- 25:58Speaker 3: it's self reflection from the Guardians here that like they
- 26:01Speaker 3: need a big bat, and Chase the Latder is a
- 26:03Speaker 3: big bat. Is he terribly proven? No, has he been
- 26:06Speaker 3: played a ton of games the miners now, but he
- 26:10Speaker 3: is a really really good bat, and I'm a little
- 26:13Speaker 3: surprised that they're like throwing him in the starting lineup.
- 26:15Speaker 3: I've I felt like this was a bench bat being
- 26:18Speaker 3: put in a big spot and he's gonna like get
- 26:20Speaker 3: his first major league debut with like the bases loaded
- 26:22Speaker 3: and the bottom of the ninth type thing. But I
- 26:24Speaker 3: can just I can always dream on the on the
- 26:26Speaker 3: movie scenarios, but I don't think it's enough like to
- 26:31Speaker 3: overcome our picks, and I think the Tigers still gonna
- 26:34Speaker 3: take take that series. But from a long term perspective,
- 26:38Speaker 3: what it does give me hope was I just was
- 26:40Speaker 3: never sure when the latter was gonna actually hit the
- 26:44Speaker 3: majors because of all the injury history he's had, and
- 26:47Speaker 3: it seems like it's always a different ailment, always something
- 26:49Speaker 3: going on. He's never really been able to hit his groove,
- 26:52Speaker 3: but he's like he's a very, very polished hitter. He's
- 26:57Speaker 3: probably one of the cleanest hitters in the minor leagues,
- 27:00Speaker 3: but the results just haven't shown up because he's not
- 27:02Speaker 3: been on the field. And the fact that the Guardians
- 27:06Speaker 3: are willing to promote him into the playoffs mean he's
- 27:09Speaker 3: got the inside track to a starting job next year.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And I did not think that's where he was. I
- 27:14Speaker 3: thought he I thought we were thinking of a guy
- 27:16Speaker 3: that mid season they wanted to get, you know, another
- 27:19Speaker 3: go at triple A and see that he's actually healthy.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Maybe outside the shot in the spring training if he
- 27:24Speaker 3: got hot, But I thought we were ways off here.
- 27:27Speaker 3: But I think this firmly plans him in the opening
- 27:31Speaker 3: day conversation next year. And I never want to write
- 27:36Speaker 3: off a guy, maybe a pitcher in the miners with
- 27:38Speaker 3: armor injuries, sorry Danielspino, but who did just come back.
- 27:42Speaker 3: But I don't think I want to write off a
- 27:46Speaker 3: hitter from an injury perspective this early in their career.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Unless it's you know, major risk issues over and over again,
- 27:54Speaker 3: or maybe knee issues or something like that. But he
- 27:58Speaker 3: very well could be healthy for the next five year.
- 28:00Speaker 3: And this is the guy that's going to walk as
- 28:03Speaker 3: much as he strikes out. He's gonna this is probably
- 28:06Speaker 3: a thirty thirty five homer bat, no speed to speak
- 28:09Speaker 3: of whatsoever, but hitting two eighty and thirty five homers
- 28:13Speaker 3: is like fully within reason for Chase the lotter. So
- 28:17Speaker 3: I really still like him long term, and I think
- 28:19Speaker 3: this only points up his arrow up even if he
- 28:21Speaker 3: doesn't really do anything this post season.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Okay, I think that's all fair.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Let's move on to our next bit of news, and
- 28:29Speaker 1: that is well, we didn't even kind of we gloss
- 28:32Speaker 1: over the Mets of it, all the low Mets collapse
- 28:35Speaker 1: that happened over the weekend, and they just got absolutely
- 28:39Speaker 1: trounced by the Miami Marlins, who looked fantastic. I mean,
- 28:43Speaker 1: I do think Miami is gonna be a little bit
- 28:46Speaker 1: of like a sleeper.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Under next year.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they're gonna be a very sexy wild
- 28:53Speaker 1: card pick based on all those arms that are coming
- 28:56Speaker 1: through that system are nasty. And then you get a
- 28:59Speaker 1: full year of Jacob Marci Xavier Edwards kind of took
- 29:03Speaker 1: a step forward, it felt like along with Otto Lopez.
- 29:06Speaker 3: So it is Connor Norby like there's some fun stuff there.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, and maybe it's actually a decent
- 29:13Speaker 1: landing spot for Pete Alonso.
- 29:14Speaker 2: They want to compete a little bit.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I don't know if they'll actually open up the banks
- 29:18Speaker 1: that much, because that is the bit of the news,
- 29:20Speaker 1: because Pete Alonzo said very dejectedly after that game against
- 29:26Speaker 1: the Marlins, in that final loss of the season, missing
- 29:29Speaker 1: the playoffs, that he is definitely opting out going to
- 29:32Speaker 1: hit the free agent market. Now, this is a bat
- 29:34Speaker 1: who I mean, he had a great year when it
- 29:37Speaker 1: was all said and done, to seventy two, which was
- 29:39Speaker 1: his career high batting average two seventy two, three forty
- 29:43Speaker 1: seven five twenty four, which I mean, that is the
- 29:46Speaker 1: best line he's had since his rookie year when he
- 29:49Speaker 1: hit fifty three bombs. It was a one forty one
- 29:51Speaker 1: WRC plus with thirty eight bombs one hundred and twenty
- 29:54Speaker 1: six RBI played all one hundred and sixty two games,
- 29:57Speaker 1: so he posted and he will be turning thirty one
- 30:00Speaker 1: in December. But certainly Pee Alonso showed this year that
- 30:04Speaker 1: the power is still their career high barrel rate, career
- 30:07Speaker 1: high hard hit rate, gonna be stuck at as a first
- 30:11Speaker 1: base DH and honestly, I think the defense even backed
- 30:14Speaker 1: up on him a little bit this year. Yeah, I did,
- 30:15Speaker 1: even by defensive runs scored on fangrafts.
- 30:18Speaker 2: So the bad is legit.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I'm guessing he's probably gonna be out in the market
- 30:23Speaker 1: for like a five to seven year deal. Gonna be
- 30:26Speaker 1: depending on who needs it the most. But what do
- 30:29Speaker 1: you think for Peter Alonso going forward? Is this somebody
- 30:31Speaker 1: you trust or is this more of a mirage where
- 30:35Speaker 1: he was putting it up to try to work.
- 30:37Speaker 3: His way out of Queen's I mean, I think, at
- 30:40Speaker 3: the end of the day, like Peter Alonso has grown
- 30:42Speaker 3: on me a little bit, maybe a little bit like
- 30:43Speaker 3: a fungus at times, but he definitely has. I mean,
- 30:47Speaker 3: this is a guy that in seven seasons has missed
- 30:50Speaker 3: twenty four games. It's just unbelievable. And yeah, you know,
- 30:56Speaker 3: he had i'll call it one down year twenty twenty
- 30:59Speaker 3: three when he hit seventeen with forty six homers, but
- 31:02Speaker 3: they had a two of five baby, like the average
- 31:05Speaker 3: was down, but that was it, and he's he's continually
- 31:09Speaker 3: improved at the plate from a just overall approach perspective,
- 31:13Speaker 3: and he just he he looks like a you know,
- 31:18Speaker 3: top three round bat from a fantasy perspective, like he
- 31:21Speaker 3: uh you know again, we've talked about the guys without
- 31:24Speaker 3: speed being a challenge, but I have zero reason to
- 31:29Speaker 3: believe that Alonzo's got a downword trend coming. Do I
- 31:34Speaker 3: want Alonzo on my team with like a seven year deal.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Probably not. I think, you know, the first next three
- 31:41Speaker 3: four years are gonna be pretty pretty great. But then
- 31:44Speaker 3: I think this is a bat that does you know, once,
- 31:46Speaker 3: once the swing slows down a little bit, it starts
- 31:48Speaker 3: to get pretty pretty empty pretty fast. But to me,
- 31:54Speaker 3: I have a hard time seeing puvit Alonzo anywhere, but
- 31:57Speaker 3: queens like, I don't know why. I I feel like,
- 32:00Speaker 3: for all parties all around, it makes the most sense.
- 32:03Speaker 3: He's been successful there, He's done great things. They kind
- 32:07Speaker 3: of need him. He kind of needs uh them as well,
- 32:11Speaker 3: Like I think that's where he ultimately belonged. But I
- 32:14Speaker 3: do think he's gonna get paid, and I do think
- 32:15Speaker 3: he deserves it. I think he's gonna be a great
- 32:17Speaker 3: bat and probably the premiere player on the market this
- 32:21Speaker 3: this winter. And kudos to him for just basically coming
- 32:24Speaker 3: out and saying I'm opted out, put myself out there.
- 32:27Speaker 3: He's gonna he's gonna be a hot commodity.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so too.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I do think that the quick decision to say he
- 32:36Speaker 1: is opting out like I think he the relationship has
- 32:40Speaker 1: really fractured between him and the Mets that I don't
- 32:43Speaker 1: think he's going to go back. But there's lots of
- 32:45Speaker 1: great space landing spaces out there for him between Boston
- 32:49Speaker 1: could use a first baseman. Arizona could use a first baseman.
- 32:55Speaker 1: We just talked about Miami. We could be seeing him possibly,
- 33:00Speaker 1: you know, maybe San Francisco would consider him. So there
- 33:04Speaker 1: are lots of different spots, even Seattle. Honestly, if they
- 33:08Speaker 1: go on a World Series run and have some cash
- 33:10Speaker 1: in the bank, they've got the open spot at first
- 33:12Speaker 1: base when Josh Naila leaves. So I think there's gonna
- 33:15Speaker 1: be a bidding war for Pete Alonzo because there just
- 33:18Speaker 1: really aren't great first baseman out there on the market,
- 33:21Speaker 1: and especially guys that you can pencil in for forty
- 33:23Speaker 1: homers every year, So I also love him for fantasy
- 33:26Speaker 1: just because, like I think he's got a couple more
- 33:28Speaker 1: years before that that falloff happens, and he certainly goes
- 33:32Speaker 1: hot and cold a lot, But when you're in a
- 33:34Speaker 1: roto league, it is a set it and forget it.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Forty homers, one hundred and fifteen RBI at the end
- 33:40Speaker 1: of season, so it's it's a great power back hevane.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Where do you have him going next year? From all
- 33:46Speaker 3: like overall first basement ranks? Where do you have Pie
- 33:50Speaker 3: Alonzo's city?
- 33:52Speaker 2: Uh, that is a good question.
- 33:54Speaker 3: It'll I'll help you out here. You've got the like
- 33:57Speaker 3: if we're just going by fangrafts war here your top.
- 34:02Speaker 3: I'm gonna give your top six Matt Olsen, Vlad Guerrero,
- 34:05Speaker 3: Freddy Freeman, Pete Alonzo, Michael Bush, Bryce Harper like that.
- 34:10Speaker 3: That's that's your top. The only probably real big names
- 34:13Speaker 3: I'm leaving out of this, real big names. But otherwise
- 34:18Speaker 3: that might be like arguing trying to get the conversations
- 34:21Speaker 3: you're ben Rice Vining, Past Quentino's, Christian Walker's, those those
- 34:26Speaker 3: types of guys Tyler shoulders from maybe, but first base
- 34:30Speaker 3: is really thinned out. So is he the Is he
- 34:33Speaker 3: first base number one next year?
- 34:36Speaker 1: I don't think he's quite there. He was on our
- 34:39Speaker 1: Player Raider this year. Clockton is the most valuable first
- 34:42Speaker 1: baseman at twenty seven point six dollars. Second was Josh
- 34:47Speaker 1: Naylor because of all the stone bases.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Sorry, I just I just kip Naylors. I just couldn't
- 34:51Speaker 3: believe that the sole basis, I don't think that that's
- 34:53Speaker 3: gonna stick.
- 34:54Speaker 1: But yeah, he put up seven point three dollars of
- 34:56Speaker 1: stone based value alone. Josh Nayler did was third, Devers
- 35:01Speaker 1: with four, Kurtz was fifth, So I think Alonso's actually
- 35:06Speaker 1: first base number three for me. I think it goes Kurtz,
- 35:10Speaker 1: Flad Junior, Pete Alonso, even though it was a down
- 35:13Speaker 1: year for Flad, like I still like the bad at
- 35:17Speaker 1: ball quality and I still it just like it feels
- 35:21Speaker 1: like there's it's the it's the floor argument for Flad Junior,
- 35:25Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like, yeah, as opposed to
- 35:27Speaker 1: the floor can get really low for some of those
- 35:30Speaker 1: other guys that we've talked about.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and I will I will apologize. I had qualified
- 35:36Speaker 3: first baseman up on my list. I apologize to Nick
- 35:39Speaker 3: Kurts for for that that statement. But yeah, I I
- 35:45Speaker 3: I might just I might tick down just a little
- 35:47Speaker 3: bit because I just don't know the true game power
- 35:49Speaker 3: is ever going to be there. Uh he is, what
- 35:52Speaker 3: would we say, you know, he's probably got you know,
- 35:54Speaker 3: grade sixty game power. Uh, he's got home run derby
- 35:58Speaker 3: eighty power. And so I think for me, I do
- 36:04Speaker 3: have a Lonzo above Vlad Guerrero. But I'm I'm actually
- 36:08Speaker 3: might have Kurts as number one first baseman going to
- 36:11Speaker 3: your year too. Yeah, I think that that's who it is.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I think it is, especially when you put him in
- 36:18Speaker 1: that ballpark in Sacramento. It's it's the bat of ball
- 36:23Speaker 1: is so great out of Kurtz, I think. And there's
- 36:26Speaker 1: a possibility I think he could add a little bit
- 36:29Speaker 1: of speed, you know, just like a handful to where
- 36:32Speaker 1: like it doesn't kill you, where like it'll be non
- 36:35Speaker 1: zero compared to what Pete Alonzo will do. So yeah,
- 36:39Speaker 1: I think Kurts. Kurts is going to be going in
- 36:42Speaker 1: first rounds a lot by the end of draft season.
- 36:44Speaker 3: I think I think you're right because I think what
- 36:46Speaker 3: I've seen so far have people have been already projecting him,
- 36:49Speaker 3: like taking his his season stats and putting over you
- 36:51Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty five hundred and sixty games. And
- 36:54Speaker 3: then what they're missing though, is that first you know,
- 36:57Speaker 3: swath of games was pretty dreadful. And so if you
- 37:00Speaker 3: actually look at him for when he got you know,
- 37:02Speaker 3: returned from injury earlier in the year, and just projected
- 37:05Speaker 3: that out across the full season, you're talking a fifty homer,
- 37:09Speaker 3: three hundred bat you know, one hundred and twenty RBIs
- 37:12Speaker 3: type thing like it's it's impressive.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's just like a great approach to the
- 37:17Speaker 1: spray chart is incredible, Like it is all fields, all
- 37:21Speaker 1: over the place, and this is a guy it was
- 37:23Speaker 1: his first taste in the majors. I think it's also
- 37:25Speaker 1: the type of player where I know, growth isn't linear
- 37:29Speaker 1: is the popular thing, but a guy like Nick Kurtz,
- 37:33Speaker 1: the growth is gonna be linear. I think it like
- 37:35Speaker 1: goes one direction. Okay, next bit of news, it's gonna
- 37:39Speaker 1: hit right home for the Saint Louis Cardinals because we've
- 37:41Speaker 1: actually got the trio of veterans right there. It was
- 37:45Speaker 1: all announced this week that Nolan Arnatto, Sony Sonny Gray
- 37:51Speaker 1: and Wilson Contreras have all said that they are willing
- 37:54Speaker 1: to exercise their or decline their no trade clauses in
- 37:59Speaker 1: their contract so the Cardinals can move them on, because
- 38:02Speaker 1: it sounds like Heim Bloom is setting the franchise up
- 38:06Speaker 1: for a rebuild, or honestly, I think it's mostly driven
- 38:09Speaker 1: by the dewitz and cheaping out is what it actually
- 38:13Speaker 1: is at the end of the day, and trying to
- 38:15Speaker 1: find a way to sweep that under the rug under
- 38:18Speaker 1: the guise of a rebuild with him Bloom. But I
- 38:22Speaker 1: feel like I feel like Will Ferrell being got to
- 38:25Speaker 1: in Zuelander, like screaming, like am I taking crazy pills?
- 38:28Speaker 1: Because like this Cardinals team would have made the playoffs
- 38:32Speaker 1: if they didn't have if they wouldn't have employed Eric
- 38:35Speaker 1: Fetty and Miles Michaelis, if they had just I know,
- 38:37Speaker 1: Quinn Matthews wasn't great this year, but you can't tell
- 38:40Speaker 1: me he would have been worse than Eric Fetty. And
- 38:43Speaker 1: we both know how big of a fan of Michael
- 38:45Speaker 1: McGreevy I am, and he would have been better than
- 38:48Speaker 1: either of them all season. It's not like they have
- 38:53Speaker 1: to spend money on this team. You just got to
- 38:55Speaker 1: bring up the dudes that you have. They have JJ
- 38:57Speaker 1: Weatherholt ready to go. Joshua Bias has been looking great.
- 39:01Speaker 1: They've got a catcher for the next decade. Just like
- 39:07Speaker 1: at every level in the minor leagues.
- 39:09Speaker 2: It's absurd to me that this team is thinking that
- 39:12Speaker 2: they're going to be rebuilding when they're right there on
- 39:16Speaker 2: the precipice, they were just a few games out of
- 39:18Speaker 2: the playoffs. With this setback year, what they've put no
- 39:22Speaker 2: investment in. Are you in the same boat as me?
- 39:25Speaker 2: Or am I missing something here with the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 39:28Speaker 3: I mean, I think I think you're You're right there,
- 39:30Speaker 3: Like this was the best worst team that was out
- 39:32Speaker 3: there this year. Like they looked dreadful like half the time,
- 39:36Speaker 3: and then you look up and they're like they were
- 39:38Speaker 3: almost a five year club. Like they were stiffing in
- 39:41Speaker 3: the playoffs until at the very end where they kind
- 39:43Speaker 3: of let off the gas. But you're right, like they
- 39:46Speaker 3: were trotting out guys that should have never been pitching,
- 39:49Speaker 3: and they just when they want a better draft pick
- 39:53Speaker 3: or something like that, they couldn't gone to the first
- 39:55Speaker 3: round or a top ten again because they've done on
- 39:57Speaker 3: a two years in a row. YEA. But but I
- 40:01Speaker 3: think you're right, like you know him Bloom did say that,
- 40:04Speaker 3: like they're not, you know, full real rebuild. This is
- 40:07Speaker 3: the we're trying to win. We're just you know, we're
- 40:10Speaker 3: doing some reset here. And I think it to your point,
- 40:13Speaker 3: like I'm not even gonna say that duit's cheaping out now.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I'm not saying it's not that either. But I think
- 40:21Speaker 3: if you look at Arnando, I think he's he's a
- 40:26Speaker 3: great player. At the end of the day, he's definitely
- 40:29Speaker 3: on the downward trend of his career and he's not
- 40:32Speaker 3: bringing a ton to that team. And I do even
- 40:35Speaker 3: question from a clubhouse perspective if he's soured a little
- 40:38Speaker 3: bit and his value there. Sonny Gray had a really
- 40:43Speaker 3: really good season and really really bad luck, and I
- 40:47Speaker 3: think he's gonna be really hard to move with that contract,
- 40:51Speaker 3: Like that thing was so backloaded. I can as a
- 40:52Speaker 3: thirty five or forty million that he's gonna gonna be
- 40:55Speaker 3: carrying into next year. That's gonna be really hard to move.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Thirty five. I've maybe he has a five five dollars
- 41:04Speaker 3: five million dollar buy out on an option or something.
- 41:10Speaker 3: But I do think that, you know, he's likely to
- 41:13Speaker 3: stick around, and contreras Is said he'd love to be
- 41:16Speaker 3: part of the rebuilding process, and I think Contraras is
- 41:18Speaker 3: a really solid bat, and so I think, you know,
- 41:22Speaker 3: maybe moving Aeronondo and then just letting the weather holds
- 41:25Speaker 3: the Quinn Matthews, those kind of guys filter up and
- 41:28Speaker 3: just like say we're gonna go with the youth movement
- 41:30Speaker 3: and lean into it, maybe clear the path a little bit,
- 41:34Speaker 3: like is Jordan Walker the future is he not? Is
- 41:36Speaker 3: Gorman the future? Is he not? His new bar is?
- 41:39Speaker 3: Like you got to decide. I think that's the big
- 41:41Speaker 3: thing here. But there is definitely a change in tone
- 41:45Speaker 3: from all three of those guys saying, yeah, I think
- 41:48Speaker 3: I think Ernada regrets not going to the Asteris last year.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I really think he regrets that and it would have
- 41:55Speaker 3: been a whole different discussion with the Cardinals this year.
- 41:57Speaker 3: So I can go on and on with this one,
- 42:00Speaker 3: as any home home homer can do. But it'll be
- 42:03Speaker 3: very interesting to see because they are definite rebuild and
- 42:05Speaker 3: there's not gonna be any free agent signed in Saint Louis,
- 42:08Speaker 3: just like last year, except for philm a tune.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they're probably gonna add like, yeah, a bullpen
- 42:14Speaker 1: Buster two, maybe like a number five starter, But then again,
- 42:18Speaker 1: don't really need it because you've got Liam Doyle coming
- 42:22Speaker 1: right through the system now, and you're gonna have uh
- 42:25Speaker 1: well to co Robi underwent TJ. I believe so won't
- 42:28Speaker 1: have him, but you can find other arms in this
- 42:32Speaker 1: system that are ready to go. I do wonder if
- 42:35Speaker 1: this is maybe also like a reverse psychology where they're
- 42:40Speaker 1: trying to do with Heim Bloom between with Nolan Arnatto,
- 42:43Speaker 1: because Nolan arna looked pretty cooked this year, and honestly,
- 42:47Speaker 1: the team played better when he was out with the
- 42:50Speaker 1: injury and they had shifted over to JC to third base.
- 42:54Speaker 1: And I think maybe Bloom is trying to get Arnaudo
- 42:58Speaker 1: to wag the no trade cause so he can move
- 43:01Speaker 1: them out just eat the money, because I think this
- 43:03Speaker 1: team is probably better at JJ weather Hole at third
- 43:06Speaker 1: base anyway.
- 43:06Speaker 2: So uh, I think I think you're right.
- 43:10Speaker 1: So they might not even need any free agents to
- 43:13Speaker 1: be able to compete. And I think it's going to
- 43:15Speaker 1: be just like what the Boston Red Sox did under
- 43:18Speaker 1: kind of Bloom, where they you know, obviously he didn't
- 43:22Speaker 1: get to see the completion of the team that he
- 43:24Speaker 1: put together. But they really showed up a couple of
- 43:28Speaker 1: years earlier than people expected. And I could see the
- 43:31Speaker 1: Cardinals doing it because the system is just in a
- 43:35Speaker 1: really good shape right now.
- 43:37Speaker 3: It isn't it's just sorry, I'm just laughing all the catchers.
- 43:40Speaker 3: So it's just it's just the number of catchers in
- 43:43Speaker 3: the system that are like looking good, like yess. I'm
- 43:47Speaker 3: just excited to see that the Cardinals are actually going
- 43:49Speaker 3: to make some some moves because you know, they're actually
- 43:51Speaker 3: going to make the trades here. Whereas Mozilla was a
- 43:54Speaker 3: lot of talk. I love the guy, but man, every
- 43:56Speaker 3: year was we're gonna make We're gonna be aggressive this
- 43:58Speaker 3: this offseason, and it never happened exactly.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Yeah, now that Bloom's got the ability to just be
- 44:04Speaker 1: able to kind of clean house and get rid of
- 44:06Speaker 1: some of the dudes that Mozilak was attached to. So
- 44:09Speaker 1: I think it's going to be a fascinating off season
- 44:11Speaker 1: for the Cardinals. All right, let's move on to one injury,
- 44:14Speaker 1: just because I wanted to get your take on this guy.
- 44:16Speaker 2: He is a favorite of the Pod.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Luke Keishel is set to undergo thumb surgery for a
- 44:23Speaker 1: busted thumb, a sprain thumb that he was battling. This
- 44:26Speaker 1: comes on the heels of the forearm injury that he had.
- 44:30Speaker 1: He also battled Tommy John surgery last year. That's why
- 44:34Speaker 1: he didn't like Break Camp with the Twins because he's
- 44:36Speaker 1: still on the back end of rehabbing his elbow injury.
- 44:40Speaker 2: And I want to.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Get your take on this because this is the type
- 44:43Speaker 1: of player where you do warn us about in terms
- 44:46Speaker 1: of Ronald Lacunya, Junior, Bryce Harper, these guys that play
- 44:50Speaker 1: with their hair on fire, and Luke Kishall is definitely this.
- 44:53Speaker 1: When you watch Luke key Shold, this dude plays at
- 44:56Speaker 1: one hundred percent all the time, just full tilt, and
- 44:59Speaker 1: I think it's causing some of these injuries. I love
- 45:02Speaker 1: the dude, I love the contact, I love the power,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I love the overall approach and just ability to hit
- 45:10Speaker 1: and contribute. But I'm starting to give me pause because
- 45:15Speaker 1: I love Lukekishel. It's just going to be tough if
- 45:17Speaker 1: this dude's going to be running full tilt all the time,
- 45:20Speaker 1: breaking bones everywhere, spraining thumbs, spraining wrists, spraining ankles, makes
- 45:26Speaker 1: it really tough to roster and kind of pushes you
- 45:28Speaker 1: into that kind of like Brandon Lao phase, especially at
- 45:31Speaker 1: a second base where the production is otherworldly when you
- 45:34Speaker 1: have him active. But good luck trying to time that.
- 45:37Speaker 1: And if you're in like a weekly league, you know
- 45:39Speaker 1: he's going.
- 45:40Speaker 2: To go down on a Monday for you.
- 45:42Speaker 1: So what are you doing with this information on Luke
- 45:45Speaker 1: Kishall going forward? Considering he is also kind of one
- 45:48Speaker 1: of your favorite players as well.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Yeah, exact mean, it's a loaded question. I think if anything,
- 45:55Speaker 3: like you make a very good comparison to the guys
- 45:58Speaker 3: that play with their hair on fire. He is that
- 46:00Speaker 3: kind of guy. But I don't think the market has
- 46:04Speaker 3: moved on Keishel yet. And I think actually this injury,
- 46:07Speaker 3: if anything's gonna give him a chance to like actually
- 46:10Speaker 3: cool it a little this offseason and before he tries
- 46:13Speaker 3: to get back and healthy, and I think it will
- 46:15Speaker 3: keep his price depressed because at the end of the day,
- 46:17Speaker 3: the season looks just kind of okay from an overall
- 46:20Speaker 3: stat line. I mean, he was a one point thirty
- 46:22Speaker 3: four WRC plus four homers, fourteen steals, hit three to
- 46:28Speaker 3: zero two. And I think he's a guy that ultimately
- 46:31Speaker 3: could hit too eighty how are I think it's gonna
- 46:34Speaker 3: take some time to get there. He's not, you know,
- 46:38Speaker 3: the strongest guy, so we're probably talking you know, low
- 46:42Speaker 3: teens homers. But a guy that could absolutely you know,
- 46:45Speaker 3: steal twenty five bags if not more, we'll hitting two
- 46:48Speaker 3: eighty and scoring a heck of a lot of runs.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Like he is a fantastic plate approach, He hits the
- 46:55Speaker 3: ball pretty pretty well and gets the most out of
- 46:59Speaker 3: his tools. And so I think for next year, I'm
- 47:01Speaker 3: all in on lu Kashol because I think he's gonna
- 47:04Speaker 3: be healthy, and I think the price is gonna be very,
- 47:06Speaker 3: very reasonable. I do think he's also one of those
- 47:08Speaker 3: guys like I think a comp for me is like
- 47:11Speaker 3: an Ian Kinsler way back in the day. Maybe a
- 47:13Speaker 3: little less power, but still the hair on fire, kind
- 47:17Speaker 3: of dirty, dirty pants at the end of the ball game,
- 47:21Speaker 3: moms not wanting to watch those ballpants ballpants kind of guy.
- 47:24Speaker 3: And I think he's going to slowly make a name
- 47:27Speaker 3: for himself as really a reliable, multi category guy that
- 47:32Speaker 3: continues to fly unto the radar in Minnesota. So I
- 47:35Speaker 3: really like him. I'm not too concerned about the injury.
- 47:38Speaker 3: If anything, it's going to keep the price down going
- 47:40Speaker 3: into the next spring, and he should be the starting
- 47:42Speaker 3: second basement for that Twins team for the next five
- 47:45Speaker 3: to five years.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Great name poll, I think in terms of Ian Kinsler,
- 47:49Speaker 1: because I'm also looking at the beginning for Ian Kinsler's career,
- 47:53Speaker 1: banged up a lot, averaged maybe like one hundred and
- 47:55Speaker 1: thirty ish games the season, So I think that's maybe
- 47:58Speaker 1: something to put into the calculate for Kishall going forward.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Is like, you got to consider the league that you're
- 48:04Speaker 1: in and draft accordingly, because I think you can pretty
- 48:07Speaker 1: much almost set and forget that Luke Kisha's probably going.
- 48:10Speaker 2: To miss a month of yep, every season. You can
- 48:12Speaker 2: see it right in the beginning of Ian Kinsler's career
- 48:15Speaker 2: from two thousand and six through twenty ten. It's exactly
- 48:20Speaker 2: the same player that is.
- 48:22Speaker 1: That's a great comp but something to consider because the
- 48:26Speaker 1: ceiling was otherworldly for Kinsler. But you always had to
- 48:29Speaker 1: have a backup plan because you knew at some point
- 48:32Speaker 1: he was going to go down on you. So just
- 48:34Speaker 1: kind of put that in your calculus. As I mean,
- 48:37Speaker 1: people are going to be starting to draft prey soon.
- 48:39Speaker 1: I mean I'm going to be drafting in like a
- 48:40Speaker 1: month here at First Pitch Arizona doing some live drafts,
- 48:44Speaker 1: so it is going to be sick oh draft season
- 48:47Speaker 1: here pretty soon, and I'm looking forward to grabbing some
- 48:51Speaker 1: Luke Kishel pieces where I can not on any Gladiator drafts.
- 48:54Speaker 2: I can tell you that's one place you will.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Not want to take him right now, but other ones
- 48:59Speaker 1: you can probably take him and just prepare cordingly.
- 49:02Speaker 2: All right, last piece of news.
- 49:04Speaker 1: We have a guy who was announced that he is
- 49:07Speaker 1: likely coming over being posted from NPB this offseason, and
- 49:12Speaker 1: he was not covered when we went over some Japanese
- 49:15Speaker 1: stars that you were starting to tuck away cards for. Uh,
- 49:18Speaker 1: we're talking about Hanschen Tigers starter heroto Sai Kai.
- 49:23Speaker 2: I think is the way you believe you say or
- 49:25Speaker 2: say key, say key.
- 49:27Speaker 1: So it's Sai Ki. And this is a twenty six
- 49:32Speaker 1: year old right hander who the strikeouts haven't cointed there,
- 49:36Speaker 1: but also over the past four years and MPB, I
- 49:40Speaker 1: mean one of the years was less than fifty innings,
- 49:43Speaker 1: but the rest of them were full seasons. Has had
- 49:45Speaker 1: a less than two ERA, so he's just been a
- 49:48Speaker 1: fantastic pitcher. There for the Hansen Tigers, and so wanted
- 49:52Speaker 1: to get your thoughts on heroto say kee here because
- 49:56Speaker 1: we didn't cover him when we were going through those
- 49:58Speaker 1: other Japanese stars. But if he gets posted, he's probably
- 50:02Speaker 1: going to be another hot commodity and you can start
- 50:05Speaker 1: tucking away some of those cards right now.
- 50:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, And I I was kind of surprised, like
- 50:11Speaker 3: I thought he was a guy because he's still got
- 50:13Speaker 3: three or four years until he's actually a ternational free agent,
- 50:17Speaker 3: so I'm surprised to see him popping up. But he's
- 50:20Speaker 3: been a very, very good pitcher for a number of years,
- 50:25Speaker 3: basically since he turned like twenty three. He's been unbelievable
- 50:30Speaker 3: four straight years of the era A one eight three
- 50:33Speaker 3: or better. That's that'll play, you know when I when
- 50:38Speaker 3: I look at him, it's actually not that far of
- 50:40Speaker 3: a difference from a profile of chotau Imnaga when you
- 50:45Speaker 3: actually look back at their kind of careers before coming over. Uh.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Not the highest strikeout guy, really good control, kind of
- 50:53Speaker 3: middling ground ball rate, just really does a great job
- 50:57Speaker 3: of weak contact. And that's just really really smart pitcher,
- 51:02Speaker 3: and it's gonna really make you think at the end
- 51:05Speaker 3: of the day. So I think that we can if
- 51:12Speaker 3: he gets posted, uh, we can count on him bringing
- 51:16Speaker 3: up pretty pretty good contract over in the major leagues,
- 51:20Speaker 3: and he'll be in high demand just with the results
- 51:22Speaker 3: that he's done for the last the last four years.
- 51:24Speaker 3: And at the same time, like he's the last three years,
- 51:28Speaker 3: you know, he's he's pitched good innings, I mean the
- 51:31Speaker 3: last two years, one sixty seven, one fifty seven. Like
- 51:33Speaker 3: he's been healthy, hasn't hasn't caused problems. So I think
- 51:37Speaker 3: a lot of teams will be very, very interested here.
- 51:39Speaker 3: I actually got to go check some cards. I think
- 51:41Speaker 3: I might even have one of those cards sitting over
- 51:43Speaker 3: sitting over there. But I think this is a good
- 51:46Speaker 3: a good chase for teams that hopefully he just does
- 51:51Speaker 3: get posted.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I do too, because I think we're also going
- 51:55Speaker 1: to start seeing more waves of players get posted, just
- 51:58Speaker 1: after what Sasaki forced upon his team be able to
- 52:03Speaker 1: make his way over to MLB earlier. Along with like,
- 52:07Speaker 1: I think some of these lower level teams in Japan
- 52:10Speaker 1: are realizing, hey, there's bonuses to be had in terms
- 52:14Speaker 1: of the money that you get coming back from MLB
- 52:17Speaker 1: and kind of selling quote unquote these players over to
- 52:22Speaker 1: the teams the way that it kind of works in soccer,
- 52:24Speaker 1: and that they're taking advantage of that, and then also
- 52:27Speaker 1: like realizing some of maybe the back end interests that
- 52:30Speaker 1: can happen if you put one of your players directly
- 52:33Speaker 1: into MLB, that you know, especially some of the card
- 52:36Speaker 1: collecting and just other connections that followers of baseball now
- 52:43Speaker 1: have with MPB and you know, are excited and know
- 52:46Speaker 1: stuff about these guys before they came over. So yeah,
- 52:48Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to say Key coming over hopefully and
- 52:52Speaker 1: just seeing what his market will be because it's a
- 52:55Speaker 1: little bit of like a Tomooki Sagato profile, a little
- 52:59Speaker 1: less ground ball maybe, but much younger too, So it'll
- 53:04Speaker 1: be fascinating to see what teams see within him and
- 53:06Speaker 1: can build forsake.
- 53:09Speaker 3: It'll be fun to see. But I do hope that
- 53:12Speaker 3: he does get the chance to come over because I
- 53:14Speaker 3: think I think these are profiles I like to see
- 53:17Speaker 3: can they make it and can they make a difference.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Okay, we do have a couple of baseball card releases
- 53:23Speaker 1: that we added to the schedule, so go into the
- 53:25Speaker 1: show notes and check that out on the calendar. We
- 53:28Speaker 1: had twenty twenty five Tops Diamond Icons, which is one
- 53:32Speaker 1: of the higher end products yep got added to the
- 53:35Speaker 1: list for ten twenty two, coming out in the same
- 53:37Speaker 1: day as TOPS Holiday. We definitely will cover TOPS Holiday
- 53:41Speaker 1: in depth when it comes out in a few weeks
- 53:43Speaker 1: on October twenty second. Then we've got the big one,
- 53:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty five TOPS Update Series coming out on ten
- 53:50Speaker 1: twenty nine. We will absolutely certainly cover this because it
- 53:54Speaker 1: is going to be a very hot product. After all,
- 53:57Speaker 1: the flagship was cold all year because Rokie Susaki fell
- 54:00Speaker 1: flat on his face. Nick Kurtz is in Update Series,
- 54:03Speaker 1: and it's gonna be a bananas product. It's actually I
- 54:07Speaker 1: think all the it went up for pre order this
- 54:10Speaker 1: week on Tops dot com, but I think all the
- 54:12Speaker 1: pre orders have already sold out on Update Series, partly
- 54:16Speaker 1: because people are just like frothing at the mouth that
- 54:19Speaker 1: open some flagship that actually has some great rookies, and
- 54:23Speaker 1: then after the rookie class has been kind of subpar
- 54:27Speaker 1: in series one and two. So any initial thoughts for
- 54:30Speaker 1: Diamond Icons or Update Series before, obviously we will cover
- 54:34Speaker 1: them later this month for everybody, because it's going to
- 54:37Speaker 1: be big time card collecting time, but didn't know if
- 54:40Speaker 1: you had any takes.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think probably two commons here. First of all,
- 54:44Speaker 3: Diamond Icons, I actually really like that product. It's a
- 54:47Speaker 3: very clean product. It's never a product i'd ever rip
- 54:50Speaker 3: from a price point, but those cards are very very
- 54:53Speaker 3: well done, very classy designs. So I do think those
- 54:59Speaker 3: are great to add collections, tough to update this year.
- 55:02Speaker 3: The thing for me, it feels like it's a pretty
- 55:05Speaker 3: deep rookie class like that. That's what what's intriguing to
- 55:08Speaker 3: me is there's a lot of names here. We got
- 55:11Speaker 3: the Marcelo Myers, you you've got clearly, you got Kurtz,
- 55:17Speaker 3: you just got a key show that we were talking about. Uh,
- 55:20Speaker 3: You're gonna have a number of other guys that have
- 55:24Speaker 3: made plus all the you know, the rookie debuts from
- 55:26Speaker 3: like a Baldwin, guys like that. But I I think
- 55:30Speaker 3: it's Robert Hassel. I think, you know, still kind of
- 55:33Speaker 3: a big name. Mc abele's in there. I think you're
- 55:36Speaker 3: gonna find a lot of really good, intriguing rookies in there,
- 55:41Speaker 3: and it's gonna be a stronger rookie class that we've
- 55:43Speaker 3: seen for update, uh, for for a number a number
- 55:46Speaker 3: of years, so I'm excited about that. I think it
- 55:49Speaker 3: will be fun to dig into it, and I think
- 55:54Speaker 3: this might be one of the first ones I ripped
- 55:56Speaker 3: for a while. I think they might. It might have
- 55:58Speaker 3: to happen. I didn't get in the pre orders. I
- 55:59Speaker 3: think only at a retail boxes blaster boxes at this point,
- 56:04Speaker 3: but might have to make a stop by local hobby store.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and generally Update series is the cheapest of all
- 56:13Speaker 2: the Flagship ops, and when it comes to the hobby boxes,
- 56:15Speaker 2: I guess we'll see where that settles given the Nick
- 56:18Speaker 2: Kurtz of it all, but I do think that it
- 56:21Speaker 2: probably will likely be that way.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Because at the end of the day, the flip side
- 56:26Speaker 1: is you're also looking at a bunch of like middle
- 56:28Speaker 1: relievers that switch teams at the deadline that are in
- 56:31Speaker 1: the product. So it is a hot rookie class, but
- 56:34Speaker 1: the outside of the rookies, it's it's pretty muted. And
- 56:39Speaker 1: the one thing that I think will also draw people
- 56:41Speaker 1: in is it's the first time they're doing Real One
- 56:44Speaker 1: Autos Golden Mirror edition.
- 56:47Speaker 2: So this came up in Flagship this year.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Where they were doing the Real One Autos of the
- 56:51Speaker 1: actual kind of base design, which is kind of cool
- 56:54Speaker 1: because it's an on card auto of the actual card.
- 56:58Speaker 1: That doesn't happen very often, and it's been something that
- 57:01Speaker 1: you know, people have always really enjoyed bringing across from heritage,
- 57:05Speaker 1: and so now they're doing it with the golden mirror
- 57:07Speaker 1: with a golden pen I think for all of them
- 57:10Speaker 1: for Update series two. So that's going to kind of
- 57:12Speaker 1: keep everything pretty spicy, I think as we get into
- 57:16Speaker 1: the off season collecting.
- 57:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think that's that's gonna be a hot,
- 57:20Speaker 3: hot commodity right there for sure.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Okay, Well, with that, let's wrap it up for this
- 57:25Speaker 1: week because we are going to watch the rest of
- 57:28Speaker 1: this Dodgers Reds game. It is now three two Dodgers
- 57:32Speaker 1: first and third with one out in the sixth, so
- 57:35Speaker 1: you kind of know where we're at. I'm guessing by
- 57:38Speaker 1: the time we post this pod that Dodgers will be
- 57:41Speaker 1: victorious and will help us on our way. Hopefully that
- 57:43Speaker 1: doesn't backfire because I just picked them as.
- 57:45Speaker 2: My world series.
- 57:48Speaker 3: That is the Curse of the SPoD exactly.
- 57:50Speaker 2: So Brew, let everybody know where they can find you
