- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:29So today we're talking about the fact that we have to lift other
- 0:33people up it. It's just, I think it's a
- 0:35cardinal rule that a lot of us miss out on because we're so
- 0:39caught up in our everyday stuff and we don't necessarily
- 0:43recognize that we are also, you know, we want to be lifted up.
- 0:48So when somebody, somebody does something nice for us, we're
- 0:50like, Oh my God, it was the sweetest thing.
- 0:52I'm so happy. You know, we, we feel stunned by
- 0:56it because we didn't expect it and it was wonderful.
- 1:00Here's the question, my friends, how often do you do it for
- 1:03somebody? So today I am honoring someone
- 1:07in this podcast that is a regular listener of mine,
- 1:10happens to be a client of mine. And he is someone who
- 1:15consistently does this. He has this big desire and it's
- 1:21not because he's a people pleaser.
- 1:23So you know how I all feel about labels.
- 1:26I do not love labels because it puts you in a box, it keeps you
- 1:30there and it really does shut you off from a lot of other
- 1:33beliefs about your emotions when you put a label on it and you
- 1:36think, oh, that's it, I'm stuck there.
- 1:38I am. Oh, I can't go anywhere where
- 1:41and labels are not resourceful. So let's back up for a second.
- 1:45He's one of the sweetest people and he doesn't do it because he
- 1:49has to. He doesn't because he wants to.
- 1:52He does it because it makes him feel really, really filled up
- 1:57inside to give to other people. And it's the exact reason that I
- 2:02do it. If you think you don't get
- 2:04anything from it, you're wrong. You do.
- 2:06Whenever you give to somebody, while you're giving to them to
- 2:09be helpful to them, you're also getting something from it.
- 2:11And there's nothing wrong with saying that.
- 2:14There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying that.
- 2:18This is one of those times where I feel like so often we get into
- 2:22this headspace of being judgmental of ourselves.
- 2:25And so we're like. Well, I don't want to be just a
- 2:27people pleaser. I don't want to do.
- 2:29Things listen, that's you saying I'm in an emotion of not wanting
- 2:33to do something and I'm doing it anyway because it will make them
- 2:37happy. Now, two things can be true at
- 2:40the same time. You can do it because it will
- 2:42make someone happy and you still don't want to do it.
- 2:44And it's not the wrong thing. It's when it becomes a problem
- 2:48long term and you keep doing it and doing it and you find
- 2:50yourself becoming less and less happy about it.
- 2:54That's when it becomes an issue. But it's not just because you're
- 2:56a people pleaser. Now, this young man is one of
- 3:01these people that you just look at and you're like, how does he
- 3:03remember these things? How does he know this?
- 3:05He keeps really, really great detail on what he notices about
- 3:10people, what, what they're looking for, how they're into
- 3:13things. He pays close attention to so
- 3:16many things. And just the other day, he was,
- 3:20you know, sent me a message and he said, look at this.
- 3:23He remembered that someone he had been working with before
- 3:27loved licorice. And he made the decision to go
- 3:31ahead and buy some licorice and share this licorice with this
- 3:36person randomly, just randomly. And I, I just sat there and I
- 3:41paused when I saw this because I was like, you know what?
- 3:44This is incredible that here is this person who hears something
- 3:47about someone loving licorice. They go, they buy it, they write
- 3:51them a note and they send it off to them just so this will
- 3:54randomly show up. Now I can't begin to tell you
- 3:59how much this. I'm so grateful when I get
- 4:03little things in the mail like this.
- 4:04One of my other clients sent me a card that was embedded with
- 4:08seeds to grow flowers, wildflowers.
- 4:12Do you know the excitement I have when I got that and I I
- 4:16just was like, oh, this is so cool.
- 4:19Cannot wait to put it in the ground.
- 4:21It just showed up. Cannot wait to put it in the
- 4:24ground. These little things are bright
- 4:27spots. And if we're all doing them for
- 4:29each other, then guess what happens?
- 4:31We're all lifting each other up. It's not just about us taking or
- 4:35about us waiting for someone to do it for us.
- 4:38But if you want to receive it in the world, you pour it into the
- 4:41world. If you want to do good things,
- 4:43you pour good things. And this is such an important
- 4:46piece of the puzzle, such an important piece of the puzzle.
- 4:49So I'm going to encourage you to find a way, any way that you can
- 4:54to pour in a little bit, think about people around you.
- 4:56If you're in an office and you work and you see that everybody,
- 5:00you know, you sit next to somebody and you know that like
- 5:03putting a flower on everybody's desk would make everybody happy.
- 5:06Maybe that's a thing to do. I mean, I, I don't know about
- 5:10you, but flowers make me very happy.
- 5:13I think you all know that. So when you, when you think
- 5:16about how you can make yourself happy, it's not just about, Oh,
- 5:20I'm going to take myself to a spa day or oh, I'm going to go
- 5:23get myself, you know, a fancy lunch or whatever.
- 5:26No, think about how much you get when you give, think about what
- 5:31would happen if you just did that one simple thing, just that
- 5:35one simple thing, how it would change not only you, but them.
- 5:38All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:41see you tomorrow. Bye.
