Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Don't remember. Oh, mister plow that's my name. That name
- 0:04Speaker 1: again is mister Plow.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Well, John Q, drive away. Here's our number. No, we
- 0:11Speaker 2: play the waiting game. The waiting game sucks. Let's play
- 0:15Speaker 2: Hungry Hungry Hippos four finger discounted.
- 0:35Speaker 1: There's a special I should let you say it. We
- 0:40Speaker 1: started recording five minutes is like me saying this is
- 0:43Speaker 1: a special occasion having me. I mean for this vision,
- 0:46Speaker 1: you could say it. Okay, well sorry, do you want
- 0:48Speaker 1: to introduce you? Introduce yourself? Oh hi, I'm comedian Aaron Gox.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Some know me as Goxy, but our.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Very first guest to ever have in the studio in
- 0:57Speaker 3: the in person for figure discount.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's what I was trying to say. Embarrassingly
- 1:03Speaker 1: presented myself, but I just got really excited. But no,
- 1:05Speaker 1: thank you very much. I didn't actually know that. So, yeah,
- 1:09Speaker 1: it's great to be a part of history game history.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Because you did give me the option of if I
- 1:16Speaker 1: wanted it, of remote and I was like, no, I'm
- 1:18Speaker 1: coming in. Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, we've tried all the way down the train. You
- 1:20Speaker 3: rode a bike. I was like, oh man, I'm so bad.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I shouldn't come pick you up.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'm speaking of Simpsons. I did the like he's some
- 1:26Speaker 1: non given up comedy guy. But you do a lot
- 1:30Speaker 1: of this when yeah, you're on Well look it's a
- 1:32Speaker 1: few years off now, but you might have heard of
- 1:35Speaker 1: something called COVID that was going around. Yeah, bug, but
- 1:38Speaker 1: that's conspiracy. Comedians. Yeah, us comedians we did some zoom
- 1:43Speaker 1: gigs are horror, so I'll always jump on the in person.
- 1:47Speaker 3: But you were telling us off the air that you're
- 1:49Speaker 3: watching people get off their couches mid show, which I
- 1:51Speaker 3: just think is rude. Yeah, you paid to watch a comedian.
- 1:54Speaker 3: You wouldn't get up and leave it when you're at
- 1:55Speaker 3: the show, So why do you get off the couch?
- 1:57Speaker 1: But that was the problem is they just think he
- 1:59Speaker 1: can't don't see me.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I'm at home.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, did it three you off? It did a little?
- 2:04Speaker 1: It did and there was no laughter, which isn't that
- 2:08Speaker 1: different to my normal I'm Jane. I don't have a
- 2:12Speaker 1: big egear, but I like to think there's a little
- 2:14Speaker 1: bit of laughter at my gigs. But that was a
- 2:16Speaker 1: very weird time and I won't go too much into
- 2:19Speaker 1: the sort of mental health side, but a lot of
- 2:21Speaker 1: us had that kind of like because when you're used
- 2:24Speaker 1: to touring around, you can go to a town, make people
- 2:27Speaker 1: laugh hopefully, and then all of a sudden it's like,
- 2:29Speaker 1: well what am I now?
- 2:31Speaker 3: Like you know, yeah, what's my purpose here?
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah? Yes, for your purpose here?
- 2:34Speaker 3: Today? Used to talk about mister Plower.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Oh man, that's what I was put on this earth.
- 2:39Speaker 3: And we're glad that you were because you were saying
- 2:41Speaker 3: before before at Coxy arrived that we're a young season
- 2:44Speaker 3: twenty at the moment with the podcast, right, and you
- 2:46Speaker 3: watch a season twenty episode of the Simpsons and then
- 2:49Speaker 3: you watch mister Plow and you just goll just go
- 2:51Speaker 3: back and review the classics again.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Wow, that's no comment from me, But yeah, I'm not
- 2:58Speaker 1: a something. People are a bit gentle on the New Ones.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I'm pretty harsh. When we're doing season twenty.
- 3:06Speaker 4: It's kind of like we're we've got the metal detector
- 3:08Speaker 4: out and we're going along the beach like maybe we'll
- 3:10Speaker 4: find a twenty cent pieces and that, Yeah, maybe there'll
- 3:14Speaker 4: be a joke somewhere with this.
- 3:15Speaker 1: It's just like, holy should have go watch Yeah. Well, well,
- 3:18Speaker 1: every now and then I see comments saying like god,
- 3:21Speaker 1: the latest Ones returning and yeah, I know I'm pretty harsh.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I know I'm pretty harsh, but it is it's a
- 3:28Speaker 1: tough thing when you know how high quality it could
- 3:31Speaker 1: have got to.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And yeah, what's the thing. It's just I don't know.
- 3:35Speaker 3: We're watching it now, going a good episode is a
- 3:38Speaker 3: fine episode's if we go? Is it okay?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 3:41Speaker 3: It was all right, it was okay, yeah, but now
- 3:43Speaker 3: it's we're watching the mister Player. You just go, We're
- 3:45Speaker 3: five minutes in and I reckon, I've taken twenty jokes.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah jokes already.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know the classic years, like, yes, references
- 3:52Speaker 1: were shoved in, but they were like the writer's favorite
- 3:56Speaker 1: directors and you know, like, what's trying to think, Oh,
- 3:59Speaker 1: like Kuber or something like that. Now it's like put
- 4:02Speaker 1: put iPod in. Put Like that's just shoving in pop cult. Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 1: get it on board.
- 4:11Speaker 3: It's all about who we can get on the show.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yeaheah, exactly. And by the way, I'm thirty six. Yeah,
- 4:17Speaker 1: so I'm thirty nine.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Okay, So you grew up in the nineties with The Simpsons. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 3: so one of your earliest memories of the show.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Thanks for saying, Oh well, I'm ancient. It does. It's
- 4:27Speaker 1: gonna sound a bit cheesy, but I definitely feel like
- 4:29Speaker 1: I've grown up. I grew up with it because as
- 4:33Speaker 1: a kid, I remember the like radical Bart era, don't
- 4:36Speaker 1: have a cow.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You would have been about five when The Simpsons started then, yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But then, I mean Australia picked it up pretty quick
- 4:44Speaker 1: compared to a lot of stuff that took time to
- 4:46Speaker 1: come over. I still remember things going fast track from USA,
- 4:51Speaker 1: so I remember that sort of Bart's bad boy that was.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It was center out bar right like the first few
- 4:57Speaker 1: seasons and speaking about being harsh, I can't do season one.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Some people say, I mean, it's nice to see where
- 5:05Speaker 1: it started. But you know, with Homer, like embarrassed by
- 5:08Speaker 1: the family and the first I think.
- 5:10Speaker 3: It's the third episode he wants to kill himself because
- 5:12Speaker 3: he lost his job and was going Holy Molly. But
- 5:14Speaker 3: there is an episode moaning Lisa, which is episode six,
- 5:18Speaker 3: where it's just as relevant now as it was back
- 5:21Speaker 3: then because Lisa is sad and she doesn't know why.
- 5:23Speaker 3: And at the end Marcher says, you want to be sad,
- 5:26Speaker 3: just be sad. Yeah, I'll be here for you, And
- 5:27Speaker 3: I thought that's so.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, a lot of stuff. I have some nice
- 5:31Speaker 1: touching stuff, but it didn't not the hilarious humor that
- 5:35Speaker 1: you know. It's really finding its feet, isn't it. And
- 5:38Speaker 1: so my very earliest memory would probably be the big Foot.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Deep I was gonna say, called the Simpsons things. Most
- 5:47Speaker 3: nineties kids remember that, Ozzie Kids, Hungry Jack's had action
- 5:50Speaker 3: figures right that. I remember my friends having it, and
- 5:54Speaker 3: we didn't have Huncle Jacks. We were McDonald's KFC family.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I don't know about yourself, but when mum came home
- 5:59Speaker 3: with Hungry.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Jacks rooster, yeah, the other place burned down? Or what's
- 6:04Speaker 1: going on?
- 6:05Speaker 3: Takeaways?
- 6:05Speaker 1: Right? Yeah?
- 6:06Speaker 3: So Thursday night takeaway night was our thing as kids,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and it was always Maxis and KFC whichever. We didn't
- 6:11Speaker 3: care if mom came home with red rooster or Hungry Jacks,
- 6:14Speaker 3: we thought we'd done something wrong. What was what was
- 6:17Speaker 3: your go to takeaways?
- 6:18Speaker 1: Kid? Yeah? What do you want?
- 6:23Speaker 3: Doxy?
- 6:23Speaker 1: What do you want for? It's funny because, like my
- 6:25Speaker 1: humor now is heavily based around the fast food chains,
- 6:30Speaker 1: my parents didn't do a lot of the so maybe
- 6:33Speaker 1: that was my rebellion. Like when you know, when you
- 6:36Speaker 1: get to forty and you start working, you like, I
- 6:38Speaker 1: can spend my own money. I will have a rip
- 6:40Speaker 1: a roll. Yeah, that was it. I was like when
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm like fourteen doing part time jobs, it's all about like, no,
- 6:45Speaker 1: now I can get KFSC.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I was liked to watch The Simpsons as a kid,
- 6:48Speaker 3: so I think that's why I became obsessed with it
- 6:50Speaker 3: once I was allowed to. But by the point I
- 6:52Speaker 3: was allowed to, people are almost starting to get over it.
- 6:55Speaker 3: So I was always almost like the only Simpsons kid
- 6:57Speaker 3: in my group. But I told I started watching the
- 6:59Speaker 3: show I was watching all I was six.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, well it is like it is funny when
- 7:03Speaker 1: you hear about that because I could see in parts,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, when with the Bart rebellion thing. But I
- 7:09Speaker 1: mean it seems like things that came afterwards were a
- 7:12Speaker 1: lot more cooked.
- 7:14Speaker 3: From me South Park from me, it's because of one
- 7:17Speaker 3: consists of Maggie getting a knife out of the drawer
- 7:19Speaker 3: and what do you think little Dando did?
- 7:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's it. It is. Kids are very influenced. Yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Was your comedy influence by The Simpsons? Oh? Yeah? But
- 7:29Speaker 1: like I said, I like to think the because sometimes
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'll think of something and I'm like, oh, that's a
- 7:34Speaker 1: Simpsons joke. But then I'll be like, well, at least
- 7:37Speaker 1: i'm it's the greatest comedy ever that I'm copying, Like,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you know.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Well, that's like you're saying, I mean, kids are kids
- 7:42Speaker 4: are sponges. Yeah, they soak up whatever. And I think
- 7:44Speaker 4: if you grow up watching something like The Simpsons, or
- 7:46Speaker 4: if you're a bit older like me, you grow up
- 7:48Speaker 4: sort of watching you know, classic sitcoms on tea, and
- 7:51Speaker 4: if you've got any inclination to be funny, that's where
- 7:54Speaker 4: you learn. You learn the rule of threes, where you
- 7:56Speaker 4: learn that's good timing as opposed to bad time, and
- 7:58Speaker 4: that's how you land a joke. That's until I means yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 4: and that's how you bold in references and all that
- 8:03Speaker 4: kind of stuff.
- 8:04Speaker 1: That's what I think. Another memory, early memory I have
- 8:07Speaker 1: is because that's the thing they didn't really repeat the
- 8:12Speaker 1: very first season much, I don't.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Think, and it was never on TV, was it.
- 8:15Speaker 1: But then I remember because of the bad bart I remember,
- 8:18Speaker 1: like the water bombs by the Genius. I just have
- 8:21Speaker 1: this memory of him or Green. Yeah. Yeah, there's things
- 8:25Speaker 1: like that where it's just like but as a kid,
- 8:28Speaker 1: it is that it's just like it looks so cool
- 8:30Speaker 1: and the voices.
- 8:31Speaker 3: It was different, wasn't it.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:32Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think they did Channel ten. They it
- 8:35Speaker 3: seemed to be sometimes season three, but it was most
- 8:37Speaker 3: of like season four to like season seven seemed to
- 8:39Speaker 3: be the ones that were on rotation. Yeah, six pm L.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It is quite interesting to read the history of it
- 8:46Speaker 1: where you know, like because you know it as this
- 8:48Speaker 1: big behemoth, but like when you read about how early
- 8:51Speaker 1: on it was such a gamble and yeah, I think,
- 8:56Speaker 1: like I think ten wasn't even like a big sort
- 8:59Speaker 1: of channel in one.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I think at the time maybe and I think it
- 9:01Speaker 3: was maybe it was channeled ten by that point.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Was that no, what was it called? What was it
- 9:03Speaker 1: used to be? Channel? Oh?
- 9:05Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Eighties? And I was kind of the poor a cousin
- 9:10Speaker 1: for seven and it was always seven and nine.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah, the two big ogs jeellling it out in the
- 9:15Speaker 4: ABC's that go, you guys feel pretty good, duke it
- 9:19Speaker 4: doubt we'll be over here.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 3: I remember reading or maybe watching once somewhere where Rove
- 9:23Speaker 3: was saying that they didn't Channel ten were interested in
- 9:26Speaker 3: the Simpsons, Channel seven were interested and then someone passed
- 9:28Speaker 3: it up and then someone said Channel ten the kids
- 9:30Speaker 3: show something different, give it a go, and best decision
- 9:33Speaker 3: they ever made.
- 9:33Speaker 4: And it was real canter programming as well when it
- 9:35Speaker 4: first started, because I think it was on Sunday nights
- 9:37Speaker 4: up against sixty minutes or something. Yeah, sounds like, okay,
- 9:40Speaker 4: Well you can need to be you know, supercipisticated catch
- 9:43Speaker 4: up on the current affairs of the world, or you.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Can do what's the Simpsons. There's this thing as as
- 9:47Speaker 1: a comedian kind of there's certain things you're expected to like.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It sounds weird expected, but like, for example, like Seinfeld,
- 9:55Speaker 1: like there's probably like ninety or ninety five percent commanis
- 9:58Speaker 1: would say they love it, and I didn't. But mostly
- 10:00Speaker 1: I watched things that suited my age more, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: because and that I just didn't really connect with it.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Sounds weird to say I connect with the Simpsons, but
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's a cartoon. I didn't connect with these what were
- 10:10Speaker 1: they like, thirty somethings in New York or whatever.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I didn't like Seinfelder kid. Yeah, yeah, do you like
- 10:15Speaker 3: Seinfeld now?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Though? Well that's the thing. I haven't actually retro but
- 10:20Speaker 1: I don't hate it or anything, but I just know
- 10:22Speaker 1: I'm a little bit of a outside comic comedian. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 1: because it is one of those ones where it's like
- 10:28Speaker 1: that's almost like, you know how certain elements of entertainment,
- 10:32Speaker 1: it's like, oh, if you're into metal, you're probably like metallic. Yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 3: You know, if a comedian come up to you and
- 10:36Speaker 3: ask you if you like Seinfeld, you just say you do.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just like these pretzels with that one of
- 10:44Speaker 1: the three catchphrases. I know. But again, like I think
- 10:48Speaker 1: with the that you do meet every now and then,
- 10:51Speaker 1: a commune who wasn't allowed to watch another thing I
- 10:54Speaker 1: was told Tasmania apparently didn't have it at all. Really,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I don't know if it's Channel ten television. Yeah, I
- 11:02Speaker 1: think it's I think it was Channel ten and all
- 11:04Speaker 1: the Simpsons are one of those. But yeah, and I'm like, so,
- 11:07Speaker 1: how did you end up being funny?
- 11:08Speaker 3: Like, yeah, can you remember an episode that influenced you
- 11:13Speaker 3: at all where you maybe write a joke from an.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Episode of this? Oh gosh, that's put me on the spot,
- 11:19Speaker 1: you know, Like I said, like you like to think
- 11:21Speaker 1: your original, but let me are well, a lot of
- 11:25Speaker 1: what I talk about food and stuff is like very
- 11:28Speaker 1: like Homer like, but I try and put like an
- 11:30Speaker 1: Aussie twist on it. So I guess what was the question?
- 11:35Speaker 1: And I was a massive con O'Brien fan as well
- 11:38Speaker 1: as I know he only wrote.
- 11:39Speaker 3: A few but doing the Oscars again next year. He
- 11:41Speaker 3: hosted this year. He's already got the gig for next year.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll often I know this doesn't really answer your question,
- 11:46Speaker 1: but I'll often say like season five is my favorite season,
- 11:49Speaker 1: so I guess season five. Yeah, well that's it. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I do think I was just discussing this of you.
- 11:56Speaker 1: If ever for a little peak behind the curve.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Curtains always open when it's.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Funny when you say, like like you're pinning yourself down
- 12:04Speaker 1: and say this is my favorite season. But my favorite
- 12:05Speaker 1: apps from definitely I'll say like five. But then obviously
- 12:08Speaker 1: you like a lot of other apps. But yeah, I
- 12:10Speaker 1: guess that humor. John Sportsworld as well. I had his books.
- 12:15Speaker 1: He like a lot of love a lot of that humor,
- 12:18Speaker 1: So any any of that, I guess, like the food stuff.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I'm a big geography nerds. I like geography, joke, sports jokes. Yeah,
- 12:25Speaker 1: so those sort of those big three. But one thing
- 12:28Speaker 1: I do. Having said like fives my favorite app I
- 12:31Speaker 1: do reckon there's some brilliant jokes and a couple of
- 12:33Speaker 1: the like four and three, and like, you know, I
- 12:36Speaker 1: consider one of the first brilliant jokes to be in
- 12:40Speaker 1: Flaming Mos or like you just lost yourself a customer?
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, like that, yeah yeah, And I always think
- 12:48Speaker 1: of that whenever someone's you know that, I know people
- 12:51Speaker 1: I'm a sucker for like comments sections like people.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Say, don't doom scroll man.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I know, but but I don't know why. I'm just
- 12:58Speaker 1: in there. And there's always that the negative peal, you know,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and the classic like who you know when it's like
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's like oh, And it's always that makes me think
- 13:06Speaker 1: of that because they're kicking ass and Barry from Bayswater
- 13:10Speaker 1: and say, because I got a bit of the trolls myself,
- 13:14Speaker 1: you know, and I always think of.
- 13:16Speaker 3: It like that, what's the usual troll comment for you?
- 13:19Speaker 1: Well, it's funny because like I said, I'm into sports.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I'm often comment on sports stuff. I reckon a lot
- 13:25Speaker 1: of the trolls. I must have said something about their
- 13:27Speaker 1: team or player and now they're just like, oh, they
- 13:31Speaker 1: just won't like people really love their teams and now
- 13:34Speaker 1: they're just giving me grief.
- 13:36Speaker 3: So when you go to a town, do you not
- 13:37Speaker 3: look up Okay, we're going to this town. Let's look
- 13:39Speaker 3: up their sports team, be pro their team or do
- 13:42Speaker 3: you just not care?
- 13:43Speaker 1: Not really? Yeah, I'll sometimes I like doing a reference
- 13:46Speaker 1: to like, you know, if I go to Adelaide or
- 13:49Speaker 1: remember when they won the premiership and go, let's party
- 13:51Speaker 1: like it's yeah, that's it. I did something about West
- 13:55Speaker 1: Coast when I was in fair like, let's party like
- 13:57Speaker 1: it's O six. You know, which can have a meaning
- 14:00Speaker 1: to it's a different party if you know what I mean,
- 14:04Speaker 1: cousins exactly. That's why I'm like, I'm not like huge
- 14:09Speaker 1: on references, but I like those sort of slip one
- 14:11Speaker 1: of those and yeah yeah, but.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I think otherwise you're like spinal tap saying hello Cleveland.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, you know, like you try not to be
- 14:19Speaker 1: too cheesy with that kind of you know, there's that
- 14:21Speaker 1: classic like Simpsons predicted it, but it's true, there is.
- 14:25Speaker 1: There's almost a joke for every situation.
- 14:27Speaker 3: You know, especially been so many episodes. Yeah yeah, but
- 14:31Speaker 3: still it's the first ten that seemed to be the
- 14:33Speaker 3: one that the most did.
- 14:34Speaker 1: You ever have talking about that. Did you have like
- 14:36Speaker 1: a moment in your life where looking back it's a
- 14:39Speaker 1: little bit cringey, like so, you know, it's like a teenager,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I was a bit political, and I used to be like,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I reckon, I reckon. The Simpsons deal with political topics.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I get my news from this, you know. But I
- 14:51Speaker 1: genuinely thought, like, for example, like when you talk about
- 14:55Speaker 1: like homophobia, like they dealt with that quite quite my.
- 14:59Speaker 3: First one, unbelieve.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because it made Homer the butt of the joke,
- 15:05Speaker 1: that is the joke.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, like, look how parent he's the bad guy? Yeah yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 3: But then we review the teen seasons and virtually every
- 15:12Speaker 3: episode has a homophobic joke in it, you know, everything
- 15:15Speaker 3: he did back and see.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I want to get too, deeven the news
- 15:20Speaker 1: stuff that does meet right at the heart of how
- 15:23Speaker 1: I feel, and that it's a whole new set of
- 15:26Speaker 1: writers and stuff that that to me. I'm not saying
- 15:30Speaker 1: this is the correct point of view, but where they
- 15:33Speaker 1: they've lost the spirit of what it was when it.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Was almost pinpoint the second the show's heart ripped and
- 15:39Speaker 3: half you can watch it and go this is when
- 15:40Speaker 3: the Simpsons wasn't the show it once was, and Homer
- 15:43Speaker 3: became a jerk for no reason, yeah, and no repercussions
- 15:47Speaker 3: for being a jerk.
- 15:47Speaker 4: And well, I think the way we always talk about
- 15:49Speaker 4: it when we've talked about the episodes recently is like
- 15:52Speaker 4: when it first started, maybe for those first ten season,
- 15:55Speaker 4: you've got a bunch of people who want to write comedy, yeah,
- 15:58Speaker 4: and they've learned it from wherever. And then then following
- 16:01Speaker 4: off from that, you've got a bunch of people who
- 16:02Speaker 4: learned on comedy watching The Simpsons.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yeah. So I was like, I think there's how you
- 16:08Speaker 1: do the Simpsons.
- 16:09Speaker 3: The problem is that South Park and Family Guy came around.
- 16:12Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say. It was it
- 16:13Speaker 1: competing to be a bit edgy.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't the cooking on the block anymore. South
- 16:16Speaker 3: Park completely took the reins from that. And then once
- 16:18Speaker 3: South Park the fad, the south Park died down, but
- 16:21Speaker 3: it was peak south Park for about the first two seasons.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Then they sort of mellowed a bit. Then Family Guy
- 16:26Speaker 3: came around, and everyone just wanted to be that random,
- 16:28Speaker 3: obscure jokes like Family Guy, and you just see elements
- 16:32Speaker 3: of that seeping into the Simpsons, how do.
- 16:33Speaker 1: We stay relevant?
- 16:34Speaker 4: Like you could have just stayed in your lane and
- 16:37Speaker 4: cruise along. Very nice because a lot of people like
- 16:39Speaker 4: what you do.
- 16:39Speaker 3: That's because we do a south Park podcast as well.
- 16:41Speaker 3: And that's what I love watching these old episodes of
- 16:43Speaker 3: south Park is they could have very easily tweaked their
- 16:45Speaker 3: style to suit what people seem to want at the time.
- 16:47Speaker 3: They went, not fuck it, We're doing the show that
- 16:49Speaker 3: we want and it's all better for it.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:52Speaker 4: The fact that Trey Parker and Matt stone A still
- 16:54Speaker 4: sort of driving the train, how many seasons into it
- 16:58Speaker 4: or how many years into it, Yeah, it means the
- 16:59Speaker 4: show remains the same.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I'm the kind of person I don't want to be picky,
- 17:03Speaker 1: but I end up being. And it's like I don't
- 17:05Speaker 1: hate Soba, but I'll so this is my kind of
- 17:08Speaker 1: like critique picking. A part of it is that a
- 17:11Speaker 1: lot of the time, and there's nothing wrong with this,
- 17:13Speaker 1: is what I do is going to like find what
- 17:15Speaker 1: your your persona is and stick with it. But I
- 17:18Speaker 1: find it's often like, see, the kids are the only
- 17:21Speaker 1: ones who know what's going on and all the adults
- 17:23Speaker 1: are dumb, and which is a funny concept.
- 17:25Speaker 3: And it evolved that because it wasn't really live then
- 17:27Speaker 3: by the end were season seven now sound parking, you go,
- 17:30Speaker 3: I'm going, so the kids are the only smart ones
- 17:31Speaker 3: in the town. Yeahah, and Carton's still an idiot. But
- 17:34Speaker 3: it's always standing Kyle going, what are you guys doing?
- 17:37Speaker 1: You know?
- 17:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's always funny to look at the very beginning
- 17:41Speaker 4: of a sitcom that you really love and one that's
- 17:42Speaker 4: gone on for a long time. And yeah, the first
- 17:45Speaker 4: seasons or the first episodes are usually kind of unrecognizable. Yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 4: it's like you can see the germ of what it's
- 17:53Speaker 4: going to become, and they realize, oh, we're going to
- 17:55Speaker 4: keep this, We're going to throw this as hard, we're
- 17:57Speaker 4: going to amplify this, we're going to tamp that one.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Us on these characters, there's so much that I've
- 18:03Speaker 1: just learned along the way. I I never even knew that,
- 18:07Speaker 1: like you know, you when you read when it comes
- 18:09Speaker 1: up like credits, and and obviously I knew there was
- 18:12Speaker 1: a lot of different writers and that, but but even
- 18:15Speaker 1: with these series, there's a different director episode episode, which
- 18:18Speaker 1: I find interesting.
- 18:19Speaker 3: And yeah, so this one here, mister Plower, you chose,
- 18:22Speaker 3: I ask you which episode you want to do mister Plower?
- 18:24Speaker 3: This episode here for me, I feel like season four
- 18:26Speaker 3: was the era where it became the Homer Show. We're
- 18:28Speaker 3: just discussing. Shows tend to focus on particular character. The
- 18:31Speaker 3: first couple of years were Bart, Bart the Murderer, but
- 18:34Speaker 3: this is always Bart the general.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I got radical Bar, but I don't know.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yah, yeah, but the episode, the episode, there's a lot
- 18:40Speaker 3: of Bart that or Bart that in the first couple
- 18:42Speaker 3: of seasons. Now it's the Plow you know, Homer Home,
- 18:45Speaker 3: the heretic, that kind of thing in season four. But
- 18:47Speaker 3: what was it about mister Plower in particular that made
- 18:49Speaker 3: you want to choose this one to talk about today?
- 18:51Speaker 1: Yeah? It is interesting when you kind of dissect, like
- 18:54Speaker 1: what do I like about things? And I want to
- 18:56Speaker 1: start with snow because, like if Igo is one of
- 18:59Speaker 1: my favorite movie I think because I'm from BRISBANEES So
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm from the heat. So I guess it's like I
- 19:05Speaker 1: was never into fantasy like Lord of the Rings, Star
- 19:07Speaker 1: Wars sci fi, but that's probably my fantasy. Like I
- 19:10Speaker 1: like human stories told in snow places I don't know,
- 19:14Speaker 1: but yeah, yeah, but that's that's one thing, and then
- 19:17Speaker 1: I mean, this is an obvious easy thing, but this
- 19:19Speaker 1: is just brilliant jokes in it, even if you take out.
- 19:22Speaker 1: But then I guess, I mean, I've always been just
- 19:25Speaker 1: like a laborer for work, so maybe it's that thing
- 19:28Speaker 1: to the labor job.
- 19:29Speaker 3: There's just so many moments in here that I forgot.
- 19:31Speaker 3: We're in this episode. Yeah, put it in, h Adam,
- 19:34Speaker 3: what it's doing the bat to all these moments where
- 19:36Speaker 3: you can put them in any episode and they work.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're all in this one. You know, we're
- 19:40Speaker 1: in the area where in the era of the meme, right, well,
- 19:42Speaker 1: memes have been around for a while, but that they
- 19:45Speaker 1: just get what do you call it, like passed on
- 19:48Speaker 1: and like people forget, like what's putting in age from Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Like, I just think the Simpsons now because the episode's
- 19:54Speaker 3: taken a lead that people say they're not any good anymore.
- 19:55Speaker 3: They're fine, they're okay, but the Simpsons isn't cool anymore.
- 19:58Speaker 3: It's not people talking about. What keeps the Simpsons relevant
- 20:02Speaker 3: is means, yeah, people were using on social media and
- 20:05Speaker 3: that kind of thing. That's how the Simpsons, like the
- 20:06Speaker 3: Facebook groups like our page one, that's how the Simpsons
- 20:09Speaker 3: is remaining relevant twenty twenty five.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well it's absolutely you know, it's funny about
- 20:13Speaker 1: that too. Like I just watched the full up the
- 20:15Speaker 1: other day, and for this, which is such a rare thing,
- 20:18Speaker 1: I don't do that the watch Sims as much just
- 20:20Speaker 1: because I want to watch it anymore either. Yeah, but
- 20:23Speaker 1: I used to love the DVD box sets and then
- 20:26Speaker 1: I would alternate between just like watching it as it
- 20:28Speaker 1: is and the DVD commentary. Sorry.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I went to bed listening to commentaries, which became
- 20:33Speaker 3: a podcaster.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah. They were the first podcasts, And it's such a
- 20:36Speaker 1: funny thing to like have it playing and you can
- 20:39Speaker 1: kind of hear the dialogue, but it's quiet and yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 1: and just the crew just nerding out.
- 20:46Speaker 3: And I just wish they'd put the commentaries on Disney. Plus,
- 20:49Speaker 3: I would watch it far more often, but apparently there's
- 20:52Speaker 3: issues because they've got to then pay the people whose voice.
- 20:56Speaker 3: It's like all this.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I don't remember I should say this, but say it.
- 21:00Speaker 1: When I watched it, I got my daughter to get
- 21:01Speaker 1: a dodgyp from something. Yeah, I was like I was,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I was saying, because you know, I'm a little bit older.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Jen I'm turning forty, but my daughter's more tech savvy,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and I'm saying to her, like, what can we do?
- 21:15Speaker 1: Is there do we do? Like, is there like a
- 21:17Speaker 1: one month Disney. Let's be honest, Disney is doing all right.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I'm not stealing from a corner shop, but I.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Know where they're going out of business.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But I know there's I've heard about the whole like
- 21:31Speaker 1: if you put something on YouTube, it'll be down in an.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Hour or yeah, you're pretty on to that.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I like to have that job, just looking for like
- 21:37Speaker 1: I'm sure it's probably automated, now.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Be right police, Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Of Disney as the hospital in that episode is like
- 21:44Speaker 4: we're missing one subscription. Looks like there's no Disney.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll tell the children.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So you know, it's like obviously anything that's like a
- 21:53Speaker 1: full up gets taken down. But I think there's just
- 21:55Speaker 1: so many like one minute jokes.
- 21:57Speaker 3: They just like it depends what platform using on Facebook
- 22:00Speaker 3: are so pedantic about clips content wise, so anything over
- 22:03Speaker 3: twenty seconds, you're done. Anything under they go crazy for it.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Ex.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Twitter, Elon don't give a shit, mate, He's like, put
- 22:09Speaker 3: full episodes up.
- 22:10Speaker 1: We don't care he's got other things on his mind.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Instagram also seems to not really care, even though they're
- 22:14Speaker 3: owned by Matter.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Yeah.

- 22:45Speaker 1: I think we spoke about this before of her about
- 22:47Speaker 1: like saying something's your favorite, and you have a favorite
- 22:51Speaker 1: at the time, you just say it, and then I
- 22:53Speaker 1: also like that, and I like that, so I'll often
- 22:56Speaker 1: say mis sa far as I favor I love like
- 22:58Speaker 1: obviously love like I said, season five my favorite seasons.
- 23:02Speaker 1: After this, we watched Homer Goes to College, which.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Is another episode that's one of my favorite. The Dean
- 23:09Speaker 3: and that is amazing. I just love all those and
- 23:12Speaker 3: and it's like free nerds are over there, free nerds.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I love all that, just the cliches of the
- 23:20Speaker 1: high school movie, college.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Movie and that like with the Animal House. The Animal House.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, frusty old Dean, but he's like the nicest it.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Oh, don't think you are peak. Yeah, it's so good
- 23:30Speaker 3: with the powerful friends.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And just watching that and it's like, maybe this is
- 23:35Speaker 1: my favorite. It doesn't at the end of the day,
- 23:36Speaker 1: it doesn't matter, but yeah, I wanted to give mister
- 23:38Speaker 1: Plower some love, Like I was saying.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Very sexy episode, yeah.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Really yeah, being in about memes and I'm in a
- 23:48Speaker 1: few different groups and I was often think of like
- 23:51Speaker 1: a topic to start up, and I was going to
- 23:52Speaker 1: say about like our favorite kinks, you know, like when
- 23:56Speaker 1: Homer goes with the flowers in the toilet or or
- 23:59Speaker 1: there's you know, when he puts the sand in it.
- 24:03Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, but that that that is really like
- 24:08Speaker 1: genuinely sweet. When Marge just like appreciates home and yeah,
- 24:12Speaker 1: yeahs good at his job.
- 24:14Speaker 4: What's about costs of beings? Like, you know, you blew
- 24:17Speaker 4: all this money on this play.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Actually I didn't do anything wrong to fuck it up here,
- 24:22Speaker 3: Like Barney was the villain. He actually gave Barney well.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I mentioned before about in sort of season three and
- 24:30Speaker 1: four some some brilliant jokes and a joke which I
- 24:33Speaker 1: think is a bit underpreciate. I don't hear much about
- 24:35Speaker 1: it is Barney saying nothing wrong with a bit of
- 24:38Speaker 1: healthy competition, and that's just.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Say minichail laugh the stuff in this that's not even
- 24:44Speaker 4: like jokes per se. But they're just great line deliveries
- 24:47Speaker 4: or just little bits of texture. I mean, I love
- 24:49Speaker 4: it when home is driving home from Mo's and this
- 24:52Speaker 4: isn't a Bill and Marty at night.
- 24:55Speaker 1: By the Yeah, but you did wade money again. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: know it's a bit cheesy to be like, oh, Simpson's
- 25:03Speaker 1: predicted it, but I do think they were ahead of
- 25:06Speaker 1: their time, right, Like you know the bit so they're
- 25:08Speaker 1: talking about like these big and like, oh yeah, the
- 25:12Speaker 1: American cars. I'm sure they've always been around in some form,
- 25:15Speaker 1: you do see, Yeah, that's right, and but now it's
- 25:19Speaker 1: a huge thing, the Dodge rams. But Homer's got that,
- 25:22Speaker 1: you know where they're selling it. And how psycho is
- 25:25Speaker 1: his the dreams whatever it is about the president. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I'm definitely the pay me not to work protest. I
- 25:32Speaker 1: love that.
- 25:35Speaker 3: But yeah, so many great guests as well, Linda Ronstadt
- 25:39Speaker 3: and Adam West. Linda run'st that.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Adam West, what a fucking lord.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Adam West is so down to putting himself, throwing himself
- 25:48Speaker 3: under the bus, which is what makes him so great.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Well, what's what's hilarious is in Man and West is
- 25:51Speaker 4: already bloody heightened. Yeah, is already sort of dialing up
- 25:56Speaker 4: to eleven. Now he's dialing it up to thirteen, just
- 25:58Speaker 4: sounding absolutely kind of Oh I.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Met him West and you wanted to become the mayor
- 26:03Speaker 1: in the family guy. Yeah, oh, you know. It's another
- 26:06Speaker 1: great line too. So the whole sequence is awesome. But
- 26:09Speaker 1: Homer crashing and he's like, oh got him, got him
- 26:13Speaker 1: just as good as he got, just the shocked faces.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And then the next bit with the it's a pornography.
- 26:20Speaker 3: That's one of your favorites, isn't it.
- 26:23Speaker 1: I think that's a great example too of like it's
- 26:26Speaker 1: it's not to say they never did crass or but
- 26:29Speaker 1: it was crass, but it's like sex cauldron, you know,
- 26:34Speaker 1: you know, it's like it's they just hold off enough
- 26:38Speaker 1: to not.
- 26:38Speaker 4: It's it's not smutty Yeah, it's just funny because the
- 26:41Speaker 4: Homa thinks he's being kind of Yeah. I got myself
- 26:44Speaker 4: out of that one.
- 26:46Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite Home of jokes, the accidental
- 26:49Speaker 1: you know, I'm going to stalk stop.
- 26:55Speaker 4: It's like when he goes to the boser. My name
- 26:57Speaker 4: is mister Burne.
- 26:59Speaker 3: I I just don't think I love The Simpsons in
- 27:06Speaker 3: the sense that those jokes there, like the pornography when
- 27:08Speaker 3: you're a kid watching it, right, you have no idea.
- 27:11Speaker 3: I'd like to think you have no idea when you're
- 27:13Speaker 3: five years of the way pornography means, yeah, but the
- 27:15Speaker 3: way Dan delivers the like no graphy, that's what's funny
- 27:18Speaker 3: about it as a kid, and as you get older.
- 27:20Speaker 3: So Dad's laughing alone, Dad's laughing at the actual joke.
- 27:22Speaker 3: As a kid, you're laughing at delivery.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. And I don't know if Simpsons invented there's
- 27:29Speaker 1: probably not, but the like in a dialogue talking to him,
- 27:32Speaker 1: you know, like you got you got off easy this time,
- 27:34Speaker 1: brain or.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I never would have thought of that.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:37Speaker 4: And there's just variations on that, so many variations all
- 27:40Speaker 4: through the certainly all through these classic years. I mean,
- 27:43Speaker 4: whether it's Homer's brain, like he's sitting in like a
- 27:46Speaker 4: circus or something, little beer on a ball or something like, yeah,
- 27:49Speaker 4: that's his brain in operations ballet, Yeah, that's ballet, and it.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Was like a monkey picking something out of.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Yeah, or the birds grooming him and things like that, Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 4: or even just you know, I know what, you know
- 28:02Speaker 4: what I'm thinking, boy yum y y.
- 28:06Speaker 1: And the other thing I love was the advertisements, you know.
- 28:09Speaker 3: The la I love Grandpas suit. He's wearing so low
- 28:13Speaker 3: budget but so awesome, cubes.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Around his head and it's this when they filmed the ad,
- 28:19Speaker 1: like then there's the agency went yeah, yeah, and I
- 28:22Speaker 1: love how he just like I'm going, you know, like
- 28:24Speaker 1: he doesn't get off set you. And then then Bart
- 28:27Speaker 1: you are a license and shut up. Yeah, It's like
- 28:30Speaker 1: I love that, Like why did that make the little
- 28:32Speaker 1: final cut?
- 28:33Speaker 4: Like yeah, but we were saying before we even before
- 28:35Speaker 4: we were arrived, roxy that something that's really funny and
- 28:38Speaker 4: that just a tiny little bit, it's not even a gag.
- 28:40Speaker 4: But yeah, they're filming this low budget public access commercial world.
- 28:44Speaker 4: But and you can see Lisa sort of occasionally looking
- 28:46Speaker 4: at the camera because he doesn't know what to do.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Yeah, of course.
- 28:49Speaker 4: I mean if you've never been on camera before, occasionally
- 28:51Speaker 4: to go.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I'm watching this thinking it feels like when you go
- 28:54Speaker 3: to the movies and they play the localized as. Yeah,
- 28:56Speaker 3: it's like some mate and like some guy and his wife.
- 29:00Speaker 1: But I'm Ben and always in country towns, I'll be like,
- 29:05Speaker 1: come on down and Mike Thompson Toyota. Yeah, he's stingy.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Didn't want to hire anyone, so he's doing himself.
- 29:11Speaker 3: But he's like really, but some people have done that
- 29:13Speaker 3: really well, like Frank Welcome from Nation Walker from National Files.
- 29:16Speaker 1: He become a thing. Ken Bruce he went mad and
- 29:20Speaker 1: so you just touched on. So that's the what would
- 29:23Speaker 1: you call it? Community channel add But.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Then thirty one for me and there's the Agency, the
- 29:27Speaker 3: Agency one, yeah, and the dog Draper one I love.
- 29:31Speaker 1: There's a there's a couple of times where Simpsons, I
- 29:36Speaker 1: guess you'd call it making fun of maybe like a
- 29:38Speaker 1: tribute to Ardhouse. He it was like the one Barney made,
- 29:41Speaker 1: you know, for the drinking, and it's that like cry
- 29:45Speaker 1: for me, I'm already dead, but it's it's just that's
- 29:48Speaker 1: like it's got nothing to do with being a flower.
- 29:50Speaker 1: But it's a Legiti nineties commercial as well.
- 29:52Speaker 4: I mean apparently they were making like an obsession like
- 29:55Speaker 4: Calvin k It was a director like rip off of those. Yeah,
- 29:58Speaker 4: but there were so many references him, just throw away
- 30:01Speaker 4: stuff that you know, you can tell that the writer's
- 30:03Speaker 4: really dug. It's like, I really want to just you know,
- 30:06Speaker 4: give a shout out to I mean the ad agency
- 30:09Speaker 4: he goes to called McMahon and Tate. I think that's
- 30:11Speaker 4: the one that Darren worked for on Bewitched, okay for instance.
- 30:14Speaker 4: And there's a so I'm gonna put them moving the
- 30:17Speaker 4: hat on him for the second. But when when Home
- 30:20Speaker 4: is going to go and rescue Barney from Widow's Peak,
- 30:23Speaker 4: you see him going across that rickety bridge. Yeah is
- 30:25Speaker 4: that movie that's from a movie called Sorcerer.
- 30:28Speaker 3: That's the one which is actually drove a truck across
- 30:31Speaker 3: the bridge, didn't.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we're really amazed that no one has died
- 30:35Speaker 1: making it. I was even getting sort of probably like
- 30:38Speaker 1: Cliffhanger vibes, you know, nine his action Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 30:42Speaker 4: And then there's make a joke out of both like
- 30:44Speaker 4: he's gone across this ship has bridge with this you know,
- 30:46Speaker 4: really heavy tech synth going on, oh shit, there's a
- 30:49Speaker 4: real bridge.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I love those. And again it's that thing of like
- 30:54Speaker 1: it doesn't matter that things are repeated and used a lot,
- 30:56Speaker 1: that people have probably done this heap since and where
- 30:59Speaker 1: they do it. I called to know, Homer's called to
- 31:01Speaker 1: get Barnie out. He's like, blah blah blah. There's a
- 31:06Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars note.
- 31:07Speaker 3: In it for which president on it?
- 31:11Speaker 1: Jimmy, Yeah. Oh.
- 31:16Speaker 3: My parton that one scene though, before we move on,
- 31:18Speaker 3: is when Linda rons said says I'm gonna do the
- 31:19Speaker 3: Spanish version, sings a fucking great Spanish version of the song.
- 31:22Speaker 1: He's like, you do that?
- 31:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I couldn't translate the Spanish, but I'm pretty sure.
- 31:27Speaker 4: The first part of it is like, mister player is
- 31:30Speaker 4: not Marcho, okay.
- 31:32Speaker 1: And you know when you got the it's it's actually
- 31:35Speaker 1: it's a bit sad. But like when they show Homer's
- 31:38Speaker 1: sort of like encouraging Barnie to drink and you see that, yeah.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a great man. He can
- 31:44Speaker 3: make make his own decisions.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. But it's just like it was. It was
- 31:49Speaker 1: probably seventeen man, now so many times. Yeah, it's that
- 31:53Speaker 1: thing of like, but it's a nice little peeking, like,
- 31:56Speaker 1: oh that's how that started.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I guess they kind of had to put
- 31:59Speaker 3: some sort of negative on Homer because, yeah, you don't
- 32:02Speaker 3: want to hate Barney. Barney's one of those characters you
- 32:04Speaker 3: just love, and he seemed like such a heel as
- 32:07Speaker 3: a wrestling term, but such a bad guy in this one.
- 32:09Speaker 3: We had to sort of throw some of it back
- 32:11Speaker 3: on Homer as well.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I guess.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I guess Homer in this episode though, is kind of
- 32:14Speaker 3: relatable because if you would have his position, you come
- 32:16Speaker 3: up with the idea. It's not an idea, you still
- 32:18Speaker 3: my idea. You bought a play out, right, he was
- 32:20Speaker 3: doing so well on his job. Then your best mate
- 32:23Speaker 3: does the same thing. You like, mate, it's true, but.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I mean, Barni's not wrong.
- 32:27Speaker 4: It's like that little healthy competition. Never heard anyone that's foundation,
- 32:31Speaker 4: you know.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I love the It's almost like, you know, when your
- 32:34Speaker 1: text shot at something doesn't have to be this huge comment.
- 32:37Speaker 1: But I feel like the when they transfer the key
- 32:41Speaker 1: over and it's like, oh, there's bike marks on this,
- 32:42Speaker 1: but that was like not a bad shot, but just
- 32:44Speaker 1: like to show how fickle these like heroes things.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Get me exactly give it back to us?
- 32:49Speaker 1: Yeah, oh there's a new guy, he's the town. What
- 32:52Speaker 1: to do that? Like? Why was it covered in cholan side?
- 32:57Speaker 1: What was it covered in foil? That was never before?
- 33:03Speaker 3: We talked about the line delivery, right, So a joke
- 33:07Speaker 3: is funny, but then the way it's delivered it even funnier.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Do you find when you're writing jokes that you're you
- 33:12Speaker 3: think this joke's great, but if I say a little
- 33:14Speaker 3: bit differently, it's even funnier. Helping. Does that happen to
- 33:16Speaker 3: you when you're writing your comedy?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Yeah, well so first time. I mean I'm not a
- 33:21Speaker 1: huge writer like that's there's some comedians who pump out stuff.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Do you improv? Yeah? Well one thing that will happen
- 33:27Speaker 1: with my My jokes that I have they change a
- 33:29Speaker 1: lot over time, a little bits added, So it's not
- 33:33Speaker 1: I don't write a lot of newer jokes.
- 33:35Speaker 3: But been doing the same set for ten years.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, where it's just like director's cut off. I'm yeah,
- 33:42Speaker 1: but it is like you think, because it is like
- 33:45Speaker 1: how you think of it first and then how you
- 33:48Speaker 1: present it can change a little bit. Do you think
- 33:51Speaker 1: of something on the spot that.
- 33:53Speaker 3: You a Heckler's not your style, wouldn't really.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Get not really, but I know the problem them is
- 34:00Speaker 1: now there are these like videos where they're like comedian
- 34:03Speaker 1: destroyers and like they're all set.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Up, mate, Yeah, I know that's but that's what's Is
- 34:07Speaker 3: it a thing in the comedian circle where you go,
- 34:09Speaker 3: I know that guys just fucking made that up.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Yeah, well there's a little bit of like the purists
- 34:13Speaker 1: of comedy or like resent this newest style coming in.
- 34:17Speaker 1: But I'm more like like they've got their place. Like
- 34:20Speaker 1: the younger styles we're doing our thing. Us older ones,
- 34:23Speaker 1: you know, we're just over here. It's like the comedy
- 34:26Speaker 1: like a like a Beatles and Elvis older style, and
- 34:30Speaker 1: the younger whippers snippers are doing what do I call them,
- 34:37Speaker 1: rather than these comics are gardening now.
- 34:38Speaker 3: No, So you're saying modern comedy is just all content based,
- 34:42Speaker 3: Well you're putting words.
- 34:46Speaker 1: So what you're saying is, well, to go back to
- 34:48Speaker 1: your original questions. So it's like that's a form of
- 34:52Speaker 1: comedy where people love the chaos where it's like something
- 34:54Speaker 1: going wrong. But when you have you have your act
- 34:58Speaker 1: that you want to do you don't really want people
- 35:01Speaker 1: disrupting out, but I know it's a thing that this
- 35:04Speaker 1: is a real thing. Hecklers who think that you want them.
- 35:09Speaker 3: The part of the show.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Don't you want that? Like no, no, I don't like
- 35:12Speaker 1: you don't want to go viral? Yeah, yeah, well that's
- 35:14Speaker 1: the thing. Like it's it's like it's more a perfect
- 35:17Speaker 1: storm where there's a few who, like Jim Jefferson apparently
- 35:20Speaker 1: blew up from someone running on stage or attack on
- 35:23Speaker 1: or something, and now everyone wants one video. Yeah, so
- 35:26Speaker 1: now people want to replicate that, and I feel like
- 35:28Speaker 1: it's a perfect storm. It's not going to just you
- 35:30Speaker 1: can't force it. You need to be bash naturally. Take
- 35:35Speaker 1: that I'm joking about.
- 35:37Speaker 4: There's a bo Burnham comedy special on Netflix, I think
- 35:41Speaker 4: where you can hear someone the gad saying I love
- 35:44Speaker 4: you both like don't care.
- 35:46Speaker 1: There's not a participation sport.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I've actually really crafted this though it works.
- 35:52Speaker 1: You know. My only thing is I'll some of my jokes.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I'll lead into it by does anyone and about the
- 35:59Speaker 1: topic like is anyone into this? The problem is then
- 36:02Speaker 1: when no one does it or no one emits, and
- 36:04Speaker 1: I'll but I'll usually just say, well, I'm doing it anyway.
- 36:07Speaker 1: He has a job. Yeah, does anyone here alive? Like who?
- 36:12Speaker 1: He is into breathing? You know? Yeah, you know it's
- 36:14Speaker 1: like don't you hate pants? It's not really a done
- 36:17Speaker 1: thing anymore, but years ago to get engagement page pages
- 36:20Speaker 1: like tager mate, who's like I always thought to make
- 36:22Speaker 1: fun of that as like tager mate who's alive? Or
- 36:25Speaker 1: like h tager made who has skin? Or so you know,
- 36:28Speaker 1: it's like something obvious like that. It's just yeah, I
- 36:33Speaker 1: mean people they're going to do what they want to do,
- 36:35Speaker 1: but that stuff doesn't interest me. Yeah.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Yeah, well we usually run through the episode here on
- 36:40Speaker 3: the show. Do should we skim through mister Plower?
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 36:42Speaker 3: Yeah, we usually we're at the air D eight what not.
- 36:43Speaker 3: The original edit of the episode was actually November nineteenth,
- 36:47Speaker 3: nineteen ninety two.
- 36:47Speaker 1: What can You're doing?
- 36:48Speaker 3: November nineteenth, nineteen tety two, Wow with a snappogoxy.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so talking about the whole australiing. I do
- 36:55Speaker 1: wonder if we, like, did they.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Take this would have been ninety three for us?
- 36:59Speaker 1: I reckon, do you know how quick they were doing.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Like at least a season, so it would have been
- 37:03Speaker 3: we would have been mid two thousand and not only three.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, because I don't remember, like I said,
- 37:11Speaker 1: I only remember at a young age, the sort of
- 37:14Speaker 1: radical Bart years. I was in grade two ninety two.
- 37:17Speaker 3: So remember a guy on the radio spoiling the who
- 37:20Speaker 3: shot mister Burns because it already aired in America And
- 37:22Speaker 3: then they spoke about in the radio before season seven
- 37:25Speaker 3: had premiered in Australia. Yeah, a lot of trouble, yeah,
- 37:28Speaker 3: revealing it was it was Maggie. But yeah, so it
- 37:30Speaker 3: was written by John Viddy, directed by Jim RIDDANEW kicks
- 37:32Speaker 3: off with our man, Phil Hartman. You like you Phil Hartman?
- 37:36Speaker 1: A huge fan? Yeah? Love what a dude. Yeah. So
- 37:39Speaker 1: he's trying to actually say, speaking of like saying what's
- 37:41Speaker 1: your favorite I often say Lionel Hearts is my favorite
- 37:45Speaker 1: character of anything.
- 37:45Speaker 3: I don't think as a kid you like Lionel Hearts.
- 37:47Speaker 3: But what do you get with characters of the Simpsons?
- 37:50Speaker 1: Right? Which ones do you? Did?
- 37:51Speaker 3: You find your lights more the older you got For me,
- 37:53Speaker 3: it was like Moya Hearts, that kind of thing.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, the creeps you and the bushes. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:00Speaker 1: I love that, Like, like I don't think we were
- 38:04Speaker 1: no one really enjoys the the poo debate. But one
- 38:07Speaker 1: thing people say is like, hey, like everyone in the
- 38:10Speaker 1: town is a creep, like the stereotypes. Yeah, and that's
- 38:12Speaker 1: that thing of when like all the they all go
- 38:14Speaker 1: into the reject thing. But yeah, I did you do
- 38:19Speaker 1: have that thing where it's like it's it's too obvious
- 38:22Speaker 1: to say Homer, right, so if you want to say
- 38:24Speaker 1: someone else is your favorite character, So for a long time,
- 38:26Speaker 1: I would say Wigham.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Yeah, enjoy the baby looked at you, Baby looked at You.
- 38:34Speaker 3: I found I actually liked the Lisa episodes more the
- 38:38Speaker 3: older I got as well as a kid.
- 38:39Speaker 1: I hated the Lisa episode.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but reviewing the moment, you know what, I actually
- 38:43Speaker 3: relate to Lisa a lot more than some of the
- 38:45Speaker 3: other characters.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and once you understand a bit of that comedy,
- 38:48Speaker 1: like the straight person and like she's she's never in
- 38:52Speaker 1: Margine needed for the stupidness of Yeah, the balance there
- 38:57Speaker 1: and it was quite lovely when you know those ones
- 39:00Speaker 1: where she's like questioning her own the Simpsons thing and
- 39:04Speaker 1: then she wants with the chocolate.
- 39:07Speaker 3: And yeah, yeah, one of us, Yeah, join us. But
- 39:10Speaker 3: it's what kicks off with Carnival of the Stars, hosted
- 39:12Speaker 3: by trou McClure. Not for Lepards anymore. But he mentioned
- 39:15Speaker 3: here the Erotic Adventures of Vircules. Is it the first movie?
- 39:18Speaker 3: The second reference? Because what was it?
- 39:20Speaker 4: It's not when she goes to Rancho Relax, I think
- 39:23Speaker 4: there was.
- 39:23Speaker 3: It's Camp Crusty. I think it's when they send the
- 39:25Speaker 3: kids to the camp and they're at home, they're loving life,
- 39:27Speaker 3: home has lost weight gain hand, they're watching the Erotic
- 39:29Speaker 3: Adventure of Vocus having a great time.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Troy McClure. You know, it's like sometimes I think there
- 39:35Speaker 1: are sometimes there are an amalgamation of who they're based on.
- 39:38Speaker 1: It's not one, you know. Sometimes I'll just come out
- 39:41Speaker 1: and say, like MO was meant to be so and so. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 39:44Speaker 1: I feel like it was trying like an amalgamation of
- 39:46Speaker 1: just some I'm not.
- 39:47Speaker 4: Too sure, just just b movie stars. There was there
- 39:49Speaker 4: was a Bee movie started from the seventies called Doug McClure.
- 39:52Speaker 3: I think that's right.
- 39:53Speaker 4: Yeah, but yeah, but even just that saying I'm from
- 39:57Speaker 4: yeah you may remember me, you remember me? Sorry, it's
- 40:01Speaker 4: a later reference, but I reckon he's a lot of revealed.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I'm not really his career was once I Create you
- 40:08Speaker 1: may remember me. It's like he's like.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Rick Dalton from Once upon a Time in Hollywood. Yeah,
- 40:12Speaker 4: he's just got these movies.
- 40:14Speaker 1: That's like, oh yeah, you're in that right.
- 40:16Speaker 3: But Marge tells Homer to come home because it's swing
- 40:19Speaker 3: outside is where we get that you're dead? Wait, Marty
- 40:21Speaker 3: on the radio. I do love the radio banter on
- 40:23Speaker 3: the Simpsons.
- 40:23Speaker 1: I'm doing I'm sorry.
- 40:25Speaker 4: I just want to talk about cal of the Stars
- 40:26Speaker 4: really quickly, because first of all, I just love excitement
- 40:28Speaker 4: g roade when Angela Lansbury's walking on goals. But also
- 40:33Speaker 4: and thick throwing knives at Ricardo, Sorry Riccardo.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Just little throwaways like that days kill me, not before
- 40:41Speaker 1: I give you the check. One more question. This place
- 40:44Speaker 1: mos you left just before the accident. This is a
- 40:47Speaker 1: business of some kind.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Don't tell him you were at a bar. But what
- 40:51Speaker 2: else is open at night? It's a pornography store. I
- 40:55Speaker 2: was buying pornography. I would have never started it.
- 41:00Speaker 3: But Homer's got no car now, so just a hitchhike
- 41:02Speaker 3: to work and the hitchhikes with I know the guy's name,
- 41:04Speaker 3: but Zeke the.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Pig, Yeah, dressed a pig with waterlon.
- 41:13Speaker 3: And I was just eating away on the on the watermelons.
- 41:16Speaker 3: And then so he's gonna go buy a car.
- 41:18Speaker 4: She'll got three hundred heck there so on a single
- 41:21Speaker 4: tank of kerosene?
- 41:22Speaker 2: What country does this come from?
- 41:24Speaker 1: It no longer exists. But take her for a test
- 41:27Speaker 1: drive and you'll agree.
- 41:36Speaker 3: That line on paper it no longer exists. Not funny really,
- 41:39Speaker 3: but it's the way it's said.
- 41:41Speaker 1: It no longer exists. Yeah, it was like a little
- 41:43Speaker 1: bit of history too, and like Eastern Europe. That whole
- 41:47Speaker 1: car stuff was just great because it's like, yeah, then
- 41:50Speaker 1: you got the which.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Yeah, always want to buy at the auto show. It's
- 41:54Speaker 3: got one of my favorite moments in the whole episode
- 41:56Speaker 3: there do you come with the car?
- 41:58Speaker 1: Yeah? I felt seen, well, I feel that that's it's
- 42:04Speaker 1: like it's kind of a look into like dad jokes
- 42:07Speaker 1: or that being a dad.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Now what you're going that's the kind of jet to.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I mean, I wouldn't say it now I'm obviously married, happy.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I wouldn't say it now to a woman because sexist.
- 42:15Speaker 3: But it's just it's the kind of gag. As a dad,
- 42:17Speaker 3: I can appreciate. Everyone thinks they're being original. That's the joke.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Everyone's like, she's saying it to me. It's like everybody and.
- 42:24Speaker 1: That's one of and I feel like it's one of
- 42:25Speaker 1: those ones, like it's not taking a shot at her,
- 42:28Speaker 1: but it's like it's everyone's in on her.
- 42:29Speaker 4: She has a higher ground there. She's the one that's
- 42:32Speaker 4: like in control of the situation. Everyone thinks they've been
- 42:34Speaker 4: this smooth operator, but.
- 42:35Speaker 1: It's also that and each guy thinks she just said
- 42:39Speaker 1: it to him. It's a thing. Yeah you're talking to Oh, yes,
- 42:43Speaker 1: that stripper really liked me when I gave her that hundred.
- 42:49Speaker 3: No one was like that before the expender.
- 42:53Speaker 1: While we're at the car show.
- 42:54Speaker 4: I just have to point out because I'm always a
- 42:56Speaker 4: stuck at the German accents, particularly when The Simpsons does
- 42:59Speaker 4: and you got fourth.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Motives and least say hey, what's up with that question?
- 43:02Speaker 1: This exhibit is Claus. That's an example. It's it's kind
- 43:07Speaker 1: of grim, but it's it's just a throw I like,
- 43:10Speaker 1: but yeah, I don't know.
- 43:12Speaker 4: And anytime you've got an exhibit, they have just shown
- 43:17Speaker 4: their hand or the maskers off. Like my favorite episode
- 43:20Speaker 4: is the Lipsky. It's Last Temptation of Homer.
- 43:24Speaker 1: You know when something's like, oh, that's a bit of
- 43:26Speaker 1: a relic of the past. I feel like you don't
- 43:27Speaker 1: hear about Crash Test Dummies.
- 43:31Speaker 3: TV show mate.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and there was the twelve Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 4: But in that last Tentpation episode when they've got the
- 43:37Speaker 4: old alternative energy, things like so this this solar energy
- 43:40Speaker 4: really works?
- 43:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely, Well that's a luck with I love
- 43:48Speaker 1: petrol users and nobody gets hurt. Yeah.

- 44:30Speaker 3: It's see on man Cave shows. Now, yeah, don't do
- 44:32Speaker 3: comedian shows like I gues Sis. The Melbourne International Comedy
- 44:34Speaker 3: fans are doing that this year.
- 44:35Speaker 1: No, I'm having a year off. Yeah, come back bigger
- 44:38Speaker 1: and stronger next Yeah.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I just want to take a year off.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Keep Some people go year after year, but it's a
- 44:46Speaker 1: big like it goes for almost a month.
- 44:48Speaker 3: You're planning a heck of last right, yeah, last year.
- 44:51Speaker 1: That next year, come in heck on me. Last year
- 44:55Speaker 1: I did because, like I said, I'm a huge con
- 44:57Speaker 1: O'Brian fan, so it was my tribute to that kind
- 45:00Speaker 1: of let him and I had a desk and oh
- 45:03Speaker 1: yeah Goroxy tonight. It was fun, but I really dove
- 45:07Speaker 1: into the deep end because I had two different guests
- 45:10Speaker 1: each night, so I had nineteen shows. So there's a
- 45:13Speaker 1: lot of booking and guests, a lot of you know,
- 45:16Speaker 1: setting up everything. But it was fun. But yeah, this
- 45:20Speaker 1: year's rest and Recooper.
- 45:22Speaker 3: We always stay here on the show that we couldn't
- 45:24Speaker 3: do stand up comedy. I feel like they're some of
- 45:26Speaker 3: the bravest people in the world. I just could not
- 45:28Speaker 3: go up on stage.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Yeah, we're basically hero No no, I feel like it's
- 45:33Speaker 1: not gos dandel and I aren't hilarious. Maybe if I
- 45:37Speaker 1: if you'll ever have me back again, I think we
- 45:38Speaker 1: can do the when Krusty does the stand up because
- 45:42Speaker 1: I think pants Yeah, it's a really good look at
- 45:45Speaker 1: that that world of yeah, yeah, that's like sort of yeah, yeah.
- 45:52Speaker 1: I was gonna say George Carlin, but yeah, changed his style. Yeah,
- 45:55Speaker 1: and we'll leave leave that discussion for that.
- 45:58Speaker 3: That's a spongeba by Jason of us the saving for me.
- 46:00Speaker 3: And that's the last temptation of crust. Your favorite pid
- 46:04Speaker 3: is last temptation of.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Hey kids, Batman Dad is not the real Batman.
- 46:13Speaker 5: Of course I'm Batman. See here's a picture of me
- 46:16Speaker 5: with Robin.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Oh.
- 46:19Speaker 5: I guess you're only familiar with the New Batman movies,
- 46:23Speaker 5: Michelle Fiver. The only true catwoman is Julie Numar, Lee
- 46:28Speaker 5: Merryweather or Eartha kit And I didn't need molded plastic
- 46:33Speaker 5: to improve my physique, pure West. And how come Batman
- 46:38Speaker 5: doesn't dance anymore? Remember the bat To see.
- 46:46Speaker 2: A nice meeting, you just keep moving to make eye contact.
- 46:51Speaker 3: So as a kid watching this right Batman? For me,
- 46:54Speaker 3: I was you would have been saying, Michael Katon with
- 46:56Speaker 3: that Batman.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know, well no I'm not correct, you know,
- 47:00Speaker 1: but I am. But for some reason, I don't know
- 47:04Speaker 1: why we had a VHS of the really old Adam
- 47:07Speaker 1: West So did you really? Okay? I think that would
- 47:10Speaker 1: have gone over a lot of kids. But I knew
- 47:13Speaker 1: what was going on. But so I grew up watching.
- 47:15Speaker 1: It was only one we had, so I didn't have
- 47:18Speaker 1: a lot, but it was like walking up the side
- 47:19Speaker 1: of the building. So that's why I really I knew.
- 47:23Speaker 3: The music with me is the like Pal Snuffy radioactive Man.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, snoop. I love the My.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Memories of the original Batman series is like you wake
- 47:35Speaker 3: up early on a Saturday before Rage or video hits
- 47:37Speaker 3: with Start and Channel nine at like five am would
- 47:40Speaker 3: have Thunderbirds and the original Batman.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I know why. It was always those two shows. There
- 47:43Speaker 1: was always those two shows Thunderbirds, and you always felt
- 47:45Speaker 1: a bit dangerous being up at like five wasn't up yet? Yeah,
- 47:49Speaker 1: I used to sneak down. I was a big like
- 47:51Speaker 1: music fan. It's rage.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Rage was the best because it was uncuts so good.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I put the naughty ones on them.
- 47:57Speaker 3: And the swearing would be allowed.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, wow, I shouldn't be watching. I really shouldn't be.
- 48:02Speaker 3: But like that's me when I used to watch South
- 48:04Speaker 3: Pike at ninet thirty on a Monday, followed by erotic tales.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Oh okay, yeah, oh, I just remember one of the
- 48:11Speaker 1: the Bonnie and Clyde car for Bart. Yeah that was
- 48:16Speaker 1: I was. I was telling my daughter about one of
- 48:19Speaker 1: the great things, you know, passing on classic comedy things
- 48:23Speaker 1: that you love. Yeah, yeah, try and fast on. And
- 48:25Speaker 1: so I was telling her about sometimes when Bart it's like,
- 48:29Speaker 1: you know, like I'm conversing with like Snake, you know,
- 48:33Speaker 1: and he's in the back and he's like, oh, you
- 48:35Speaker 1: get me out of here, I can make it worth
- 48:37Speaker 1: your while. Yeah yeah. So that's like a good recurring joke.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Is like Bart finding money and doing stuff he probably
- 48:44Speaker 1: shouldn't be doing it. Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:46Speaker 3: And you can see from this room here my kids
- 48:48Speaker 3: are now into retro video games.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Well, I feel like talking about your kids. Yeah yeah,
- 48:53Speaker 1: I feel like talking about the progression of the show
- 48:55Speaker 1: of the years. I feel like they've that's what they
- 48:58Speaker 1: still keep that spirit of Miss shivers bar but just
- 49:01Speaker 1: don't dedicate whole apps to him. Yeah, so would have
- 49:04Speaker 1: been like, you know, like working for the mafia.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Well, it was originally pitched as the kids showing kids
- 49:10Speaker 3: loved the show because Bart was naughty in nineteen eight,
- 49:12Speaker 3: ninety ninety. That was like, whoa, this rebel's on TV, right,
- 49:15Speaker 3: But then the kids sort of outgrew that he wasn't
- 49:18Speaker 3: cool anymore. So it's like, okay, audience, let's keep the
- 49:20Speaker 3: adults around them. And that's why they focused on Homer,
- 49:23Speaker 3: and they found out that he could write funny episodes
- 49:26Speaker 3: because they could relate to Homer because he was their age,
- 49:29Speaker 3: the writer's age as well. Trying to white for a
- 49:30Speaker 3: kid would have been hard.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Yeah. It's definitely interesting to see the progression
- 49:35Speaker 1: and the voices as well, you know, like finding getting
- 49:40Speaker 1: to the point that we know them as of.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Course, Marge's annoyed that hom has brought the player because
- 49:47Speaker 3: and then he is putting out flies. This is where
- 49:49Speaker 3: we get the first because they saw of planted the
- 49:50Speaker 3: seed early on that Barney's going to be playing a
- 49:52Speaker 3: role in this episode. So he's doing the selling the
- 49:54Speaker 3: dipe or is he selling diapers. A he's passing the
- 49:57Speaker 3: flies for like a baby baby store. So yeah, just
- 50:00Speaker 3: as a baby baby parts of the store. Is it
- 50:02Speaker 3: The guy says, you discussed me?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Yeah? Is he touch me? Is he the stampard ticket guy?
- 50:08Speaker 1: Just to him? Yeah, very action of him. Just yeah,
- 50:11Speaker 1: you discussed me. Just you know, like some characters and things,
- 50:15Speaker 1: just like sitting single guy. I was like old Jewish
- 50:18Speaker 1: man wise guy. Yeah, yeah, I feel like he's it
- 50:23Speaker 1: might be the guy also punched a hippie or was
- 50:25Speaker 1: singing like the weather or something. Yeah.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Anyway, he's a guy who's if someone's pissed off, he's
- 50:32Speaker 3: the guy that don't don't screw with this guy. He's
- 50:34Speaker 3: got no time for you. He's pretty much everybody in
- 50:35Speaker 3: twenty twenty five.
- 50:36Speaker 1: I've got no time for you.
- 50:38Speaker 3: It's the kind of guy like when you see when
- 50:39Speaker 3: you're walking in the supermarke or a mall and you
- 50:41Speaker 3: see the people in the middle of a little boosted
- 50:43Speaker 3: up and they're gonna want to sell me shit, you
- 50:45Speaker 3: just power straight past them.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:48Speaker 4: I honestly, I was at the supermarket staying. There were
- 50:50Speaker 4: a couple of young dudes trying to voice some charities.
- 50:54Speaker 1: He becomes a sucker. I saw them from this part.
- 50:57Speaker 4: I sort of went all the way around, did the
- 51:00Speaker 4: longest loop just because I could have just said no, sorry.
- 51:04Speaker 1: You can't do it. I always do the busy when
- 51:07Speaker 1: I'm not No, I always.
- 51:09Speaker 3: That's a good thing about having kids is you can say,
- 51:11Speaker 3: kids to ship himself, go for.
- 51:13Speaker 1: It, where when I may myself kids, they say it's
- 51:19Speaker 1: a good thing for getting off something is like diarrhea.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Yeah, got the ships.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll take it all the time you need, Like
- 51:26Speaker 1: we want to go second leve.
- 51:27Speaker 3: It's got the squirts, Like, whoam just keep walking buddy?
- 51:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:32Speaker 3: So he sees Barney here and then Homer is trying
- 51:35Speaker 3: to spook himself at church, taking advantage of a situation.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Just I guess that's one of the things that being
- 51:40Speaker 3: a comedians, you're constantly going to be spooking and promoting
- 51:42Speaker 3: yourself as well, right, and the opportunity can.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Take it does become the sort of like twenty four
- 51:46Speaker 1: seven consuming and you know, like with the kids, like
- 51:50Speaker 1: take a photo of me doing this or that, and
- 51:52Speaker 1: then they get a bit sick of it, but it's it's.
- 51:54Speaker 3: Like, yeah, it's Dad's having a good time.
- 51:57Speaker 1: I did do this. I don't have to do real work,
- 51:59Speaker 1: you know.
- 51:59Speaker 3: You you beg into like social media or you just
- 52:01Speaker 3: like I do it because I have to.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit like that. But there's good and
- 52:07Speaker 1: bad about it, you know, where it's that thing of
- 52:09Speaker 1: like it is a great feeling to put something up
- 52:12Speaker 1: does well get.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Reactions on it.
- 52:13Speaker 1: But then like I said, like there's trolls, there's even
- 52:16Speaker 1: your own doubts that get created about like you know,
- 52:21Speaker 1: like I'm not too bad with it now, but but
- 52:23Speaker 1: the mental side of like, oh, I know, I struggle.
- 52:25Speaker 3: With very bad reviews and stuff. It affects me.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and the whole sort of because you know,
- 52:33Speaker 1: it's only these last couple of generations almost like guinea pigs.
- 52:36Speaker 1: It didn't exist in the past, right, So people are
- 52:40Speaker 1: studying how people react to like, likes and views, and you.
- 52:44Speaker 3: Know, I found it interesting. I was talking to some
- 52:46Speaker 3: guy recently who he is a comedian, and he says
- 52:48Speaker 3: he actually gets people to put fake hate comments in
- 52:51Speaker 3: the comments to get his actual fans to respond to it.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Because then the algorithm of this of the platform on
- 52:57Speaker 3: Instagram and TikTok or whatever thinks that people engaging with
- 53:00Speaker 3: this and they boost it to more people. So it's
- 53:02Speaker 3: like it's a dirty way. Yeah, but it's just like
- 53:05Speaker 3: I don't know, it's it's just tacking.
- 53:07Speaker 1: That I need people who genuinely hate me. But it's
- 53:11Speaker 1: funny you say that because like a lot of the
- 53:14Speaker 1: times I ignore them, but I have had times where
- 53:17Speaker 1: I've clapped back and yeah, people have enjoyed what I said,
- 53:21Speaker 1: which is like part of me is oh cool. But
- 53:23Speaker 1: also I don't want to be this roast roast comedian,
- 53:27Speaker 1: like I always thought it was cringey, even when I
- 53:29Speaker 1: saw there were these veteran comics who've been doing a
- 53:31Speaker 1: lot of time who had these great comebacks in there
- 53:34Speaker 1: am I But it's like, why not just write good jokes? Don't? Yeah?
- 53:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, But so I just loved hearing the church
- 53:41Speaker 3: once the reverend said, like, you know, this is very
- 53:43Speaker 3: low clicks his things and he's got security at the church.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Yes, he's got some muscle. I love that. Yeah, the church. Yeah, lista.
- 53:52Speaker 3: It suggests we can add on what we would call
- 53:54Speaker 3: Channel thirty one, the local TV station. You know it
- 53:56Speaker 3: maybe it LEASTI channel, but the Simpsons are on TV
- 53:58Speaker 3: just their way of jokes like that as a kid.
- 54:01Speaker 3: Not funny, but they just there diget Fox at the time.
- 54:04Speaker 1: I love the the C Captain CD and the exact
- 54:09Speaker 1: way they used to.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Have running through the best of the seventies.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Highlight the song that's on and I remember remember.
- 54:15Speaker 3: We used to have to order like that, like your
- 54:16Speaker 3: favorite TV shows, like if you want to watch Mash
- 54:18Speaker 3: order the collection now just twenty nine ninety five for
- 54:21Speaker 3: three episodes.
- 54:23Speaker 4: Is an Austra I think it's cruel for the strain
- 54:25Speaker 4: production coming that still does that. You can't buy like
- 54:28Speaker 4: because they do sorry really show the age, but they
- 54:31Speaker 4: shows like cop Shop It was really good, but you
- 54:37Speaker 4: can't buy it a JB or on Amazon. You have
- 54:39Speaker 4: to go to their side. Okay, do he hate Saturday
- 54:44Speaker 4: mark up? I think Summer's got like he hate Saturday website.
- 54:47Speaker 4: He's going to own the y wouldn't put it past.
- 54:52Speaker 3: But yeah, so they got the channel on the local
- 54:55Speaker 3: station and yeah, it's just hilarious. It just they absolutely
- 54:57Speaker 3: nailed that local TV channel thirty one Vibe think.
- 55:00Speaker 1: And they've also got the mister Plower jingle, which is
- 55:02Speaker 1: just it actually works just the.
- 55:05Speaker 3: Name mister Plower as well it's so sexy, mister.
- 55:08Speaker 1: Yeah. The other thing I want to say that I
- 55:11Speaker 1: particularly could connect with was the sitting as a family
- 55:15Speaker 1: waiting for the thing wedding, like I don't do it. Yeah,
- 55:18Speaker 1: wedding sucks. We don't do it now. But obviously when
- 55:22Speaker 1: it was years ago, when it was a novelty for
- 55:25Speaker 1: me to be on something, I'd be like, got the
- 55:27Speaker 1: family gather around, and then it was like, get this
- 55:31Speaker 1: crap off, whatever's on before you know, because that's the thing.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I think it only came in in recent years where
- 55:36Speaker 1: it was like the previous thing going way over. Like
- 55:40Speaker 1: TV used to stick to its time slow right, yeah, anyway,
- 55:43Speaker 1: it we'd be like, come and watch my things going
- 55:45Speaker 1: to be. I think the very first thing I ever
- 55:47Speaker 1: did on TV, I was like I had to I
- 55:49Speaker 1: had to run through a room in the nude. Yeah
- 55:54Speaker 1: Ronnie Chang, Yeah yeah, I was on his sitcom. So
- 55:58Speaker 1: it was just like a blurm running through. But the
- 56:01Speaker 1: funny thing that is, so I was ninety nine point
- 56:05Speaker 1: nine percent nude, but they had a pouch thing for
- 56:07Speaker 1: the genitals and anyway, don't worry, there's nothing crook coming
- 56:12Speaker 1: up there. The lady who was like in charge of
- 56:17Speaker 1: I guess like costume design. She said, this thing we're
- 56:21Speaker 1: using I've done once before for Keanu Reeves. She's like
- 56:26Speaker 1: Kiano and Gox. I guess it was matrix or something.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe you've shared sweat now.
- 56:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh no, I don't think it was the same
- 56:34Speaker 1: thing that was on the Don't Kill the Legend.
- 56:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Yeah, in my mind, I'm just worrying the thing Keiano, Yeah,
- 56:40Speaker 1: on his Kiano. Yeah. Yeah, that's why break so I
- 56:46Speaker 1: remember that getting together the family to watch that. Maybe
- 56:49Speaker 1: one other thing, but that was a nice little thing
- 56:51Speaker 1: of like waiting for their take me back. Yeah.
- 56:55Speaker 3: The home is good at his job. He cleared in
- 56:56Speaker 3: front of the quickie marks. The snake's going to rob
- 56:58Speaker 3: the joint. The retirement castle. I've just got here. Uh,
- 57:00Speaker 3: the old folks here feels like the majority of the
- 57:04Speaker 3: population once COVID restrictions were lifted. So we're all stuck
- 57:07Speaker 3: in our houses for so long. Then the restrictions were
- 57:10Speaker 3: removed and we're like, we can be, we can free.
- 57:13Speaker 3: I'd rather stay home much next. Yeah, I'd rather just
- 57:16Speaker 3: not go anywhere. I don't want to talk to anybody anymore.
- 57:18Speaker 3: I'm just so used to doing nothing now but two
- 57:20Speaker 3: years worked.
- 57:22Speaker 1: The other thing I love of the Simpsons world or Springfield,
- 57:25Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it, is the the extremes
- 57:28Speaker 1: of the weather because it's it's I think they spoke
- 57:31Speaker 1: about this on the commentaries right where if we need
- 57:34Speaker 1: a mountain, a mountains there, we need a ocean because
- 57:37Speaker 1: it's like ocean, desert snow, they've had heat waves everything.
- 57:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's Victoria.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:45Speaker 3: But yeah, so he clears the school as well. Off
- 57:47Speaker 3: Martin is so dedicated to get to school. He's the
- 57:49Speaker 3: only one there. But bar gets beaten up with snowballs
- 57:51Speaker 3: from because his dad saved the day. Then he's get
- 57:53Speaker 3: given them the key to the city. And it's just
- 57:55Speaker 3: this this actually happened because you see movies and TV
- 57:57Speaker 3: shows you're given the key to the city.
- 58:00Speaker 1: What does that mean? Can we just sorry, I could
- 58:01Speaker 1: just quickly go back to the beating up thing. I
- 58:03Speaker 1: just thought that was you know, I know I talk
- 58:07Speaker 1: a lot about this, but like a little a little
- 58:10Speaker 1: shot at like how how I guess mean kids can
- 58:13Speaker 1: be whether it's like you're yeah, that was a good
- 58:16Speaker 1: Like I said, not everything has to be this huge comment,
- 58:19Speaker 1: but it was a. It was a quick little guy,
- 58:21Speaker 1: like ten second little bit. But it was just like
- 58:24Speaker 1: your dad made us go to and also like blaming
- 58:27Speaker 1: the kid up there. Dad did get the horrible man. Yeah, no, no,
- 58:31Speaker 1: well you know because like I I've spoken a little
- 58:35Speaker 1: bit about this, I'm not trying to turn this into
- 58:37Speaker 1: like you know talking I've had some guests on talk
- 58:40Speaker 1: about when I've talked with people about the changes of
- 58:46Speaker 1: like society, like being very angry to multicultural and Gox
- 58:51Speaker 1: is like a weird sort of name, right, And but
- 58:53Speaker 1: I was as a kid, I'd get like Jock's chicken
- 58:55Speaker 1: but all the rhymes and yeah, so that's why I
- 58:58Speaker 1: hate kids.
- 59:00Speaker 3: If you wait in Australia, I feel like you would
- 59:01Speaker 3: have been fine because jocks feels like a naussy thing. Right,
- 59:03Speaker 3: do you say jocks anywhere else?
- 59:05Speaker 1: I don't think they do. But it wasn't it. It
- 59:07Speaker 1: was just like they did it all the rhymes where
- 59:09Speaker 1: they're like because.
- 59:10Speaker 3: When they name me, but what can I be?
- 59:12Speaker 1: Car't art dart? Nothing wrong with that? Yeah, the kids
- 59:19Speaker 1: are clearly how wld you?
- 59:22Speaker 3: But yes, so they saved the day at the school
- 59:24Speaker 3: right to laugh at you? Ralph, Yes, and he tells
- 59:27Speaker 3: Barnie too, because Barney says like, oh man, wish I
- 59:29Speaker 3: could do something with myself, and Homer says, just get
- 59:30Speaker 3: out there and be the best version of yourself. So
- 59:31Speaker 3: he races out and he does that. Marge then wants
- 59:34Speaker 3: Homer to in bedroom and she want him to wear
- 59:36Speaker 3: the jack and I was like, that's so good. One
- 59:39Speaker 3: of the good things about this show is they're both
- 59:41Speaker 3: DTF like, oh yeahma must be good in the sack.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's another one of those you know how when
- 59:48Speaker 1: Grimes are dressed like you shouldn't have all these beautiful things.
- 59:52Speaker 1: I think that includes Marge.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Like, yeah, you've never been Yeah. I love that he's
- 59:59Speaker 4: got the key of around his neck as well.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, as well he was putting on the middle
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: of the question people could actually get given the key
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: to the city. I think it's what does this key
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: out lock? I think it's a metaphorical, but why would
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: you want that?
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: I think you should do is display it somewhere. I
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: think it might get you like ten percent of an
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: entree the gilded truffle.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe that's it. Yeah, it's also that thing too.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: It's like, you know, if it's like Melbourne or Syding
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: like it's so big, no one cares, but I feel
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: like you like Brisbane here has been like powder Finger
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: and maybe some rugby players and like.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Dorian getting, yeah getting. The Olympics had the cyclone.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so the Keys are going to the cyclone.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Yeah thanks for not smashing us that. Yeah, I watching
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: was going now we played the wedding game. Yeah. All
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I could think of was like, has anyone done the
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: like you know, I was like the hurricane like.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Someone I actually placed it on the paper. Change to
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: the cyclone. Yeah, nice of course, saying we are thinking
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: of all our pals up in Queensland. We were suffering
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: because of the cyclone. So he wakes up the next day,
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: was he saying something like gold, God's gold.
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's when stone, Yeah yeah and good gold.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: Or realizes that that the plower king has now arrived.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Choose he tires out, have the competition classic Jo, We
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: come back and it's the ad with Linda Ronstadt.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: When the snow starts falling.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: There's a man you should be calling that scale five
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: or seventy nine six, Let it ring.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Mister Plow is a loser and I think he's a boozer,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: So you better make that calture.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: The patter, And I just love how aggressively he beats
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: up the cutout of Homer, like he beats him up,
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: goes off screen, and then comes back harder.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: She's into beating up as well.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: I'm sorry, okay, you're sure when you were singing the
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: praise of Linda Ronsett before, one of the most beautiful
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: voices in popular music at the last, Yet is just
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: a good sport in this as well.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Yeah, for some reason, I don't know what it is.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: I'm a sucker for any time there's like a cardboard
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: cutout or I really love that when Marge made up
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: the Homer with like the gloves.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: And or when Homer does the President's sons.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: That's right. Yeah, it's just something about it. It's like
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: it's like a cartoon within a cartoon.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: I do love a good cardboard cutt. I've got a
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: couple of like cinema displays from I've got the original Yeah,
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: I noticed Kidding might appreciate this. I'm too sure he
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: might have been too old for it. But the original
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: Power Rangers film. Oh yeah, yeah, that kind of stuff.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, it's anytime there's like something within something. I
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: think that's great, Like, yeah.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: It's revealed here that he got Bunny into drinking, as
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: you were saying earlier, and then he's just basically going
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: around and he's lost his customers. Like Flanners isn't using
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: him anymore, Adam West isn't using It's too late.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Still money still three hours minutes ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I'll take your money, but I'm not doing I feel
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: like that's another one that's been used a bit. It's
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: a great show.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: I'll take your money. He's got the moral high ground
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: by doing so. I'll take your money, but I won't
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: do your stinking.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Well, it's the airlines of view at the moment.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: They'll take your money when I actually put your ticket onating.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: You may be going home tonight. You maybe not.
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: Yeah, some some unnamed app that we won't discuss.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, when it's happening to someone else, I
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: can laugh at it. When it's happening to you, it's.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: Not funny, mel Brooks is like tragedy is when I
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: get a hangnail. Comedy is when you fall in a manholen.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: Yeah, because of that, like tragedy over time.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: That's oh yeah, tragedy. Tragedy plus time equals comment.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: Yeah, pull a curtain back. I just have to leave
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: the studio because the damn neighbors kids knocking on the door.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Can Elliott come play?
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Not here, leave play with yourself exactly. Had fun.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: Uh this is where the repay guys call up. They said,
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: we're going to take you player, but we don't pay
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: off your bills, and suggests the ad agency.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Well, I love how the repay you guys tricked him.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: He's like, this is I'm just just you while I
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: think that's at the end that be the first one here,
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: but it's calling from the repurgency. We're going to take
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: your car.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: At the end of yeah yeah, But this is where
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: this suggests the ad agency like a real fancy commercial
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: on hommad does his rap boom boom.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Boom boom.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: I missed the plow and I'm here to day I'm
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: and he's dying.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: You were there.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: I got a big so and I move a lot
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: of things your car with one.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Very nineties this rap. Oh yeah yeah, not going down
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: as well the sideways. Do you remember the Looney Tunes
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: in the nineties had that kind of clothing one where
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: they all wear their hats back towards that kind of thing.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: We all wore it.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: But they make the really shitty commercial, which was you
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: said based on Calvin Klein, is what you said?
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: That's Barney's one, the one that's sort of been black
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: and white with the opera or something.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: But this one was based on something as well. I'm
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: pretty sure the Homers. Homer's Homer's fancy one here. Okay,
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: it's it's all similar, stolen with black and white and
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: just having nothing.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: To do with actually the plow.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: Oh yeah, there's a lot a lot of ads like
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: this in the nineties.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.

- 1:05:28Speaker 3: Springfield is ficked so that they can give back the
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: under key to the city, and we think he thinks
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: it was chocolate inside. Then Homo sees the report on
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: TV of Arnie Pine and the Sky, one of your
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: favorite characters. What do you think about anti Pine and
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: the Sky.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: I like it. It's you know, I know we've got
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: some here with radio, and.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it doesn't feel in as many characters left because
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: I don't really listen to radio anyone. It's in the
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: radio anymore talk podcast too.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I listen to sports talk radio talk.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: So yeah, I knew I was getting old when I
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: prefer I put on talk back radio, and I realize
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: I prefer it, but I think that's just the podcast
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: coming up. I listened to podcast conversations.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: I'll listen to, but it does make me angry. I'm
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: just like, yeah, I had this, and it's that thing
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: where you like, you have like a group chat and
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: I'll tell people this happened this, They're like, why do
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: you put yourself through this? If you seem to hate it?
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: What's your what's your sport of choice? Brisbane? So you
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: be rugby?
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Right? Yeah? Yeah, but I like AFL as well. I'm
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: that one guy who.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: Likes both it's pretty rare or your team won.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: But I'm living back in Brisbane again, so we've got
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: it's pretty much rugby chat. Yeah that's it. Yeah yeah,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: but it is amazing to like listening to sports for
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: how they get all day discussion out of.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: Nothing, nothing, And it's the same. One little thing will
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: happen on a football field and they somehow draw it
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: out for five days. But he homus is a report
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: from only pining this guy forbidding Widow's peaks as a
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: blizzard or whatever. So he calls up, but he's in
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: the spa with Linda having a great time. Oh yeah,
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: getting down and she basically says to him, look, there's
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: a gig up here on top of the peak. Come
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: up me, come up and get me blah blah blah,
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: ten thousand dollars. So he leaves, and then Homer starts
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: taking advantage of the mister plow plower King not being
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: in the city. Kiss my ass, Fhult. He's just being
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: horrible to people.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: You see what, Homo.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: It's not getting gigs anymore?
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Is that no person?
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: Yeah, but then he sees the report that the plower
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: King is now trapped. So he goes to say the
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: day and pretty much that's just it. That's the end
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: of the episode. Yeah, so the plow he saves the day.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: He says that nothing can stop us. Now two friends
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: get together. God is bothered by this, gets rid of
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: all the snow.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: But God just makes a cameo.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just not appreciated at all. It gets rid
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: of all the snow. There's now no snow. They've got
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: no business left.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: So the snowman melt like the Nazis in the Rais
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: of Lost Arc.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true. Yeah's reference.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Try not to make everything like, oh, this is a
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: comment on but even that, do you think that was
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: a little bit of like you know, when he's like
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: kiss my ass, well, like that's kind of a comment
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: on like sometimes a business will be getting business because
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: it's the only one in town and they can be
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: always the best or nicest or Yeah, so it's a
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: lot competition is healthy, that's yeah, yeah, yeah, it makes
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: you accountable. And even the Home of Verse Byding is
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: a little bit of a look at like how rival
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: friends friends can become rivals, I guess, and.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: They get money involved with friendship yeah, never good. Yeah,
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: so the repay guy repossesses the mister Plower.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: That's when he was doing this, I'm just distracting.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, but luckily he's still got the jacket and
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: Marge just says all she is the jacket. He puts
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: it on, sings his little tune at the end, and
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: that's the end of the episode. I just I think
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: a very sexy episode.
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: Well, yeah, he sings his song, but he's also puts
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: on his DJ voice because he's the forecasters for Flor's
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: passion with prolonged periods of getting it all.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And one thing the writers would talk about
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: on the DVD conn is that say they love that
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: screwing with the old sitcom where everything ends beautifully. That's
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: like it doesn't end happy.
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: It's not always yeah what's happy? Well that status quo
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: as well. They always have to get back to the
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: status quo of Yeah. So he was the plower king
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: for this, well, mister Planier for this one, he can't
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: be for the next one.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: It was the early days of home and doing a
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: million different jobs and things. Yeah, what he always is.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: But that is the end of mister playoff. So thank
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: you for choosing this one.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Thanks guys, and thank you for joining. Glad you agreed
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: to Like I was worried to be like this sucks?
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Why anything from season one to nine?
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: You're fine? Yeah, but sorry, go would make connection? Did
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: you say last Temptation at home?
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: So the thing is obviously you're here, you know, be
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: doing ben Interation with Comedy Festival this year, but have
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: you got any gigs on the horizon that we should
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: be checking out?
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Not really, but I do well, Like I tour around.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: I try to keep busy. So like the festivals, they
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: are are big thing, but there is this whole other
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: while they're going on, there's other commands who do their
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: own stuff.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: Is it better to do a solo tour than join
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: these festivals? The festival is good for finding new fans
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: because everyone's there to find coming.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: That's like what I was saying, is like the fest
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: because they're on in these biggest cities, so you can
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: go to like smaller regional towns and stuff, and so.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: They appreciate you coming to them as well.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So part of me feels a little bit
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: sad my friends and peers are doing in this big
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: event like Melbourne's one of the biggest fests in the world.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: But I take it as like, yeah, well when you're there,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna have Yeah, it's coming for time worth.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: Does Australia have like road comics. You hear about them
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: in the States, how they're doing. Yeah, they're more because
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: they're on.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: The cruise ships. But me and my friend who's another
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: communi angers, we've done a lot of road trips together
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: and we talk about this stuff. We're like, man, there's
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: some of these people, like they work really hard and
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: there's a lot of sacrifices. The people who just never
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: stop being on the road. Like I know, some of
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: them don't have an you know, they say no fixed
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: address because they residentially. So in one way, you're doing
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: what you love, but in another way, it's hard to
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: make friendships relationships you're.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: Always moving around. Yeah, especially with like, yeah, your family
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: as well, it's hard to have a family.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Yeah, probably don't have to vote. That's a good but yeah,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: like that's I mean, I mean, it's you know, it's
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: a pretty deep discussion going in. But it's a little
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: bit sad when you that's why some of them I
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: guess maybe after just doing it for ten years or so. Oh,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I want to settle down a bit because it's it's
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: like something like these like mining or being a soldier
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: or something where you get sent away. But but I'm
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: not those pill but I but I do like to
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: keep busy.
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: But do you find he trying to go back to
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: the same place more than once a year?
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, particularly as I'm not a huge writer. So I've
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: been going back to some places where I've been and
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I'll say to them like, who saw me last time? Was?
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: Like a few hands go up, and I'll say that
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: I hope, I hope there's enough new jokes for you.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: But usually they do they say, oh, you know, we
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: so they either forgot all the jokes from last time
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: to drunk to hear it. Yeah. Yeah, but I love
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: getting to new places. I have probably about three times.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Yeah Barwin Club, are you we go? Yeah? But no,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: So I'm juggling a few things. My next I try
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: and do some things like I don't like the word gimmick,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: but they probably are. But yeah, I'm in a boxing fight,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: so that's my no ship.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: You don't mentioned this yet.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's why I was like, you know, i'd
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: like to be back, depending if I live through that
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: officially now. Yeah, so it's what it is. It's all
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: I don't know if I should say there they're probably
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: rivals to here, but they're all podcasts each other. But
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: it's called they're called the people are organize alpha blokes.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: So it's like it's not really a world I'm a
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: part of. It's that blokey Joe Rogan. Ok. Yeah, I'm
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: more of a pop culture but yeah, I love things
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: like that. So I've never been in a fight before,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: so I'm supposed to be training. Now I've done a
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: little bit.
