- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to T-Bone Sports One Fan All Game Podcast 15.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Well, week two of the NFL is in the books.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Week three of college football is in the books.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Crazy things happened.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: So let's quickly recap.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: The Colorado Buffaloes lost big to Northwestern.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I think a lot of people kind of figured this was going to happen.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: 41-7.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Just a terrible game all around for uh for the Buffs.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Just went into Northwestern and just got outplayed in every aspect of the game.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: And I was really hoping it'd be a lot closer, but obviously that didn't happen.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: First loss of the season.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Northwestern's a great team, and and they're very well coached.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: They got a lot of good players.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: They're a Big Ten school.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: And, you know, they just were just outplayed and outcoached, unfortunately, in that game.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Alabama, again, had a slow start.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: We're down 14-3 in the first quarter.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: And then after the second quarter, just were able to take away, you know, and and and riby just blow this game out and blow it up.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: But there was a two and a half hour delay before the game because of lightning and weather.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: And then there was another long delay with two minutes left in the second quarter, again, due to lightning and rain.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: You know, fairly typical for this time of year in the south.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: But we're finally able to get put up 23 in the second quarter, 14 in the third quarter, and 10 in the fourth quarter, and wind up winning 50 to 36.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: You know, and and DeBo is, you know, De Boer has got to be able to get this team to really pick up the pace.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: You cannot have slow starts.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: You're now going to be starting division games and conference games, and you just can't have slow starts against a lot more of these teams in your conference.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Georgia will find a way to blow you out if you have a slow start.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: LSU will probably find a way to get you blown out if you slow start.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Tennessee, you know, Vanderbilt, all these schools, if you have a slow start, you know, they're they're gonna find a way to beat you.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Texas, all these schools.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: So, you know, Alabama really needs to pick it up and and and start playing much better football in the first half, especially in the first quarter, because if you get behind, you're, you know, you're you're gonna get beat.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Looking into week four of college football, Buffaloes play Baylor at 10 a.m.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Saturday, and then at five o'clock, Alabama plays South Carolina.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: A game which I think Alabama obviously should win, but again, you can have a slow start.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: This team will find a way to beat you.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Colorado and Baylor, Baylor's ten and a half point favorites.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: You know, if Colorado played the way they did against Northwestern, they are going to get absolutely annihilated.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: You know, this is this is the the teeth of the season for the Buffs.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Can they turn it around from last year with only getting three wins?
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Can they get more than one conference win?
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: We'll find out.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: But many things happened with the Colorado Buffaloes playing Northwestern, especially before the game, due to where they played.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: So many, many things happened.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Play a little bit of a of what happened.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Deion Sanders removed several players because of the comments they made about the small stadium Northwestern played in while they were letting Ryan Field get finished, which is now finished, and in a couple weeks they will have a they will play it for the first time, and these players from Colorado kind of made some comments that that irked off, you know, Coach Prime, and and here's what he had to say about this situation.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: There's never one.
- 4:41SPEAKER_04: Those guys can tell you I'm I'm the most loving and giving and forgiving man you could ever meet.
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: But when you start being conduct detrimental to the team, that was set us back in things that you're doing that you're you you don't care about the team, you care about you.
- 4:55SPEAKER_04: I have a problem with that.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: And a year ago I didn't put my foot down in it enough.
- 5:00SPEAKER_04: You know, it lingered a little bit now, it didn't have imploded.
- 5:03SPEAKER_04: I'm not doing that.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: I'm not doing that anymore.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: No, that's me.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: I ain't gotta consult with nobody to do what I know is right.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: I I I don't have to do that.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: I gotta protect them.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: I gotta protect that whole group.
- 5:14SPEAKER_04: And we got a group of young men that that I love to life, which I love all of them, but they came up to me yesterday and they said, we want to get ahead of anything.
- 5:24SPEAKER_04: Tell us who may be on that list next.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: So let's get ahead of it.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: We want to go and get on them and make sure they're doing the right thing and make sure they're where they're supposed to be and make sure they're not going out of bounds.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: So I I applaud them for that, for coming to me ready to get ahead of it.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yes, very much so.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: So you you look at that and and and the statement that that he said.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: And I applaud Dion for for doing that.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: That that really shows, you know, I'm not gonna let these kids trash talk and and say dumb things, especially if you get blown out, even if we win that game.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: You you were disrespectful to the other team, and that was detrimental not only to us, but to them, more to us and and especially them.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And for other players to come to him and say, okay, who's on the list next?
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: We want to get ahead of this, we want to stop that.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: That shows right there that that proves to me that Dion is getting this program going in the right direction.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're gonna struggle.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're, you know, with NIL money and everything, yeah, they're gonna they're gonna have some problems in and getting good players here to play in Colorado.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: But I I I will tell you, it's going in the right direction.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: There are multiple reports out all over social media.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, well, they're gonna fire Dion after this year.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: They they've they've got four, five, or six coaches in in line.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Let's see how he does.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Give this guy some time.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was a flash in the pan the first two seasons when he had his sons and Travis Hunter and those guys on there.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Just it it it needs to be understood.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Let this guy do what he needs to do.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: He's bringing the program back slowly to be dominant.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Now, beating Northwestern and going into Baylor to have, you know, the big noon kickoff come into town, that would have been great, but we we we know that's probably not gonna happen.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: But you beat Baylor, you make a statement at the beginning of conference play.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: If you go to two and two, okay, understandable.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: But the buffs are three games away from being bull eligible.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Can they get three more wins this season?
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I believe they can, and I think they can, but it's, you know, tough to start off against Baylor.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: They're a very good run program.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: They have big, big name players on their team.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: They have, you know, they're a great program.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: They have been for many, many years, and and they're gonna continue to be, you know, who who they are.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: It's it's what's gonna happen.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: It's you know, it's there.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: And and let's hope that the Buffaloes can can struggle, and they're gonna struggle.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: And let's hope that they can get past that.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Let's hope they can understand what Deanna is trying to teach them.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: You know, you have a new offensive coordinator, you have a new defensive coordinator, and and to have that year in and year out, it's it makes it difficult for these kids to learn the same thing.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: You know, when you you look at Alabama and you look how dominant they were under Nick Saban and always winning, and everybody in the country wanted to go play for Alabama, and you know, De Boer is there now, and the culture changed when he came in as coach.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: You know, they've had some disappointing seasons, and you know, the fans in Alabama don't don't like it and don't understand it, and you get fans who are you know, our season's over and and don't like the way this program is struggling in a way, but they're still very, very dominant football program.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: They're still a very dominant school in in all the college football.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: You know, they're they're always ranked.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: They're they're you know, they they they just play, you know, their style of football.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: And it's a little bit different with De Boer than it was with Nick Sabin.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: And that's gonna happen.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: You go back and you look at the 90s Buffalo's under, you know, coach, you know, under their coaches and and that coaching staff and how that you know and it just it's it's different.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: When when I grew up watching, you know, the Buffaloes with Bill McCartney and you know, in the 90s, and and them winning the national championship in 90, and you know, in the Big Eight, and then eventually the Big Twelve the original Big Twelve, you know, yeah, as a kid, yeah, the buffs were, you know, one of those big name programs.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: But that was when college football was a whole different genre.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: Now, thirty, forty years later, it's a whole different way of playing football.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: And and, you know, Alabama wasn't, you know, that you know, they were dominant, but you know, you you didn't you didn't really, you know, know them until you know they really became when when Nick Saban came in, and you know, after McCartney left, the buffs struggled and struggled and struggled, and then, you know, other coaches came in and and were able to to really kind of get the program where it was, and then it kind of fell down.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: And and you know, it's back and forth.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: You know, here in Colorado, you know, the buffs are used to having tough seasons.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: The fans are used to it, but they stick with them and they understand.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, I've been a CU fan for my entire life.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: That's the only team I've ever, you know, cheered for in college football.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, you know, I liked, you know, my other team was Wyoming, and you know, I do I do respect, you know, CSU and I do respect Air Force and those schools, but you know, I'm always gonna, you know, be a buff fan, and and when it comes to college football, you know, professional football, it's the same way.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: I'm always gonna be a Bronco fan.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: You know, I like the Packers because you know, family mom side is on on, you know, from Green Bay, you know, my dad's side is in Michigan.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: They like the Lions.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: So, you know, that's there, but it's gonna be interesting to see now that conference play is in full swing.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Who's gonna do well?
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: You know, can Alabama really start to play, you know, much more dominant football in the SEC and take that chance and and really be there.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: You know, the first couple games, you know, two of their games, they had a slow start, and they were able to kind of come back and come back from that and and win games.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: You know, Colorado isn't at that point yet.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: You know, they have a slow start, they get behind, they just can't go.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: If they can get a fast start and go, you know, they can kind of hold that momentum.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: So week three in college football is gonna start.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: The Baronka, you know, week two is finally over in NFL.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Oh boy, what a crazy, crazy week two.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: But again, typically this is the new NFL.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Week two is going to be crazy.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: We started off with Thursday night football.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: The Bills won by ten, opening up their new stadium, which is, you know, the way they want it.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: You know, the Broncos had to come back in the fourth quarter again to beat the Jaguars.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: You know, the the Eagles beat the Titans.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: You know, the Patriots beat the Steelers.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: You know, the Bears.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Here's a crazy, crazy thing.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: After scoring fifty-some odd points, the Bears managed three to nine versus the Vikings.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Is that a divisional game?
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what happens.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Caleb William goes down, acts like he blew out his knee and everything, and it's nothing.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Panthers beat the Falcons.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Kinda knew that was gonna happen.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: The Packers beat the Jets in overtime.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: In every sististic, they got a hundred and the Packers had 199 yards in total offense.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Five fumbles, only lost one.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: Many other stats that they should have lost that game.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: And they somehow were able to beat the Jets.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: But again, it's the Jets.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Saints beat the Ravens, you know, a little little interesting there.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Bengals beat the T the Texans.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Browns beat the Buccaneers.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Ooh, wow, Browns gotta win.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: Raiders beat the Chargers.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: Raiders are 2-0.
- 14:50SPEAKER_03: You know, is it is this something to to to see what happens?
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Hey, it's the Raiders, and you know, cool, they're 2-0.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Let's, you know, when they start getting into their tougher schedule, let's see who who they you know who they who they you know who they beat.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Seahawks obviously beat the Cardinals.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: 49ers beat the Dolphins.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Cowboys beat the Commanders.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: You know, the Colts lost in overtime to the Chiefs.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: And then Monday night football.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Giants actually blew out the Giants.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: The Rams blew out the Giants.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, the Giants did lose Jackson Dart for the season with a knee injury, which is just you know unfortunate for the Giants, and and and we'll we'll see what happens there going into week three.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Falcons, Packers are Thursday night football.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: This could be a very interesting interesting game.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Broncos play the Rams on Sunday night football, Chiefs versus the Dolphins, Panthers versus the Browns, Titans versus the Giants, Patriots, Jaguars, Chargers, and Bills.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Second home game for the Bills.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Can the Chargers actually get a win now?
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Probably not.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: So they're gonna go 0-3.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: The Bills are seven and a half point favorites.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Jets, Lions, Lions should probably win that one.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Colts, Texans, that's kind of a toss-up.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Seahawks, Commanders.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Seahawks obviously should win that game, but that could be a toss-up.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Bengals and Steelers.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: You know, probably the the you know, Bengals in that one.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Cardinals, 49ers, obviously the 49ers.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Vegans or Vikings, Bucks, probably the Bucks.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Nah, maybe I I would say maybe maybe Minnesota, but I think the Bucks are gonna be mad and they'll come back out and win it.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Raiders, Saints.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I think the Saints will win will win that one.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: So we'll we'll we'll see where that goes from there.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Ravens, Cowboys, probably the Ravens, Eagles, Bears, I would say the Eagles.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Obviously, no teams yet are on the bye.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: So, you know, this this could be an interesting season here, and and especially week three.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Do I see the Broncos beating the Rams?
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: To be honest, no, I don't.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: I still think, and I still believe, even though the Rams got blown out in week one, were able to blow out the the Jets or the Giants in week two, I I still think the the the Rams could are are still favorites.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: In in my book, I I would love to see the Broncos win.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: I just I don't think it's really gonna happen.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: I think the Buffs, I I think that the the the Broncos have a tough game, a tough week, you know, but if you can if you can beat the Rams and you know make make a statement, I I truly think that's something the Broncos need to do.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: They need to be ready.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: But you know, and there's plenty of people, some in the national media, some professional, you know, some of the sports analysts are like, oh, this is a Super Bowl matchup preview.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: I kind of see it, but I I I really don't.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: But, you know, we'll we'll see where this goes.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: I would love to see the Broncos win, but you know, week to week, it's different.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: And and you know, J.K.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Dobbins is out, you know, RJ Harvey's probably still gonna be out, so it's gonna be Coleman and and you know, some of these other running backs to see where they go.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: You know, we we we saw that Jaden Waddle had a breakout game, you know, and and Corland Sutton is quiet, you know, and and didn't really have much.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: But we'll we're, you know, it it's gonna be a it's gonna be an interesting game between the Broncos and Rams on Sunday night.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: And you know, we'll we'll see if the Broncos can can pull off this this victory.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: You know, we'll we'll see if this can happen.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll play a couple segments here of you know what what Sean Payton said after the the the Broncos, you know, big win, you know, comeback win on Sunday night.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: But you know, you you look at these guys and and you know where where things can really go.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: I I I have you know high high aspirations for you know on that.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Well actually we'll we'll play a quick on one here of the the Broncos Sean Payton on how he thinks they're gonna be playing against the Rams on Sunday night.
- 20:13SPEAKER_07: Kind of on our first I would say on schedule week with with our Wednesday practice.
- 20:19SPEAKER_07: Any questions?
- 20:20SPEAKER_07: Oh my god, what is it?
- 20:23SPEAKER_07: We spoke that was your hey listen and we are good.
- 20:28SPEAKER_07: Lord knows I've I've been in his position where you know you're talking about something and the story is three years ago.
- 20:36SPEAKER_07: Now I I don't know Mike at that time really, but I know Denise really well John.
- 20:42SPEAKER_07: And so I'm sure my initial call to John wasn't pleasant.
- 20:49SPEAKER_07: But I would say this it allowed talking with him, it allowed us to figure out how to handle our training camp relative to, you know, just videos and and I don't think anything was intentional by fans.
- 21:09SPEAKER_07: You know what I mean?
- 21:10SPEAKER_07: But at first you're kind of thinking, man, how how could it be and then we did some research online of what was available, and that's kind of how we changed our policy.
- 21:23SPEAKER_07: So I've known John for 20 years, so it was an easy call to him.
- 21:28SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that's that's really it.
- 21:31SPEAKER_07: At first he thought it was not.
- 21:33SPEAKER_07: I don't know what the heck.
- 21:34SPEAKER_07: I mean, it yeah, I mean, I and then all of a sudden you start realizing like this is all out there.
- 21:39SPEAKER_07: So it helped us to some degree.
- 21:41SPEAKER_07: Look, when I say this, we're pulling for 'em except for one game.
- 21:45SPEAKER_07: They're playing our division.
- 21:46SPEAKER_07: They're in the NFC.
- 21:48SPEAKER_07: Like I said, the conversation last night was good.
- 21:51SPEAKER_07: I have a ton of respect for him and and that's it.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: I mean you said that came up late season when you found out, how did you guys find out important?
- 22:00SPEAKER_07: It's really unimportant.
- 22:01SPEAKER_07: And I don't know what time of the year I know it seems like a you know, years ago.
- 22:07SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_07: It was it was it was a ways to go.
- 22:09SPEAKER_07: One more question, this is it.
- 22:10SPEAKER_07: One more question.
- 22:13SPEAKER_07: Go ahead, Mike.
- 22:13SPEAKER_07: I'm sorry.
- 22:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_07: Did you think they did the taping versus the case?
- 22:17SPEAKER_07: I didn't.
- 22:17SPEAKER_07: I'm I didn't know.
- 22:18SPEAKER_07: I mean so obviously I called Sutan before I before I started looking.
- 22:24SPEAKER_07: And I I could only do that with John because again, you know, he's someone I'll have a beer with at the Combine.
- 22:31SPEAKER_07: I I consider him a good friend.
- 22:32SPEAKER_07: And so but it it it was it was eye-opening relative to just all right, we got to be better in this area.
- 22:40SPEAKER_07: One more, here we go.
- 22:42SPEAKER_06: Just from what he said in the video, was there anything that wasn't accurate or anything you want to clarify?
- 22:47SPEAKER_06: There's nothing to clarify.
- 22:48SPEAKER_06: We just got it.
- 22:48SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 22:49SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 22:49SPEAKER_07: You uh you mentioned the NFC, I think nine in a row that you won against.
- 22:53SPEAKER_07: He just told me that.
- 22:54SPEAKER_07: I wasn't any any common treads or I don't know.
- 22:57SPEAKER_07: I mean, I honestly until walking here, Pat just said.
- 23:01SPEAKER_07: And now if you win 14 games or 15 games, you're probably gonna have some sort of in a row.
- 23:10SPEAKER_07: But I I wasn't aware of the NFC AFC thing.
- 23:14SPEAKER_07: It's taken me a couple years to figure out who I'm rooting against, you know, for being in however many years in the NFC.
- 23:20SPEAKER_07: And so then pretty soon you you figure it out.
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: Any more difficulty when like there's probably not as much of a magical amount of opponents that you see when you're you're scouting an FC team anyway.
- 23:30SPEAKER_07: I I d I think it's I think it's a byproduct of you know, one year one in ten, one year one.
- 23:36SPEAKER_07: I I really do.
- 23:37SPEAKER_07: I I don't we see it's not like baseball used to be, right?
- 23:43SPEAKER_07: That was like groundbreaking when uh you know the American went and played the NA like I in our game, it's not only a rotation, call it four years, but then it's also the additional game.
- 23:56SPEAKER_07: It's so you know, you just you see these teams and I I I think there's probably more about just playing well.
- 24:06SPEAKER_05: Coach you've had a lot of success the last couple of years with offense in the quick quarter as you analyze those types of games.
- 24:11SPEAKER_05: What's working for you guys in the quicker?
- 24:13SPEAKER_05: Is there anything that you can do?
- 24:18SPEAKER_07: That's a great question.
- 24:20SPEAKER_07: The last part of it, you know, in other words, we talk about finishing and and uh one of the things you know, especially at home is you know, and we talked about it at the start of the season, playing playing better early.
- 24:32SPEAKER_07: So I think the foc focus is more uh in the front end than you know, I think look if if you're playing with a lead, obviously you've got that balance.
- 24:46SPEAKER_07: But if you're playing within a touchdown, you still have to have that balance.
- 24:50SPEAKER_07: Last week was a good example, really.
- 24:52SPEAKER_07: You know it's it becomes difficult if it's one dimension, you know, in this league.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: You see yourself at all in Sean McVeigh like that you were once kind of him.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: It spent decades he wanted to engage you.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: Like 30 years ago, you were kind of Sean McVeigh.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Do you see yourself in him and how he goes about it and all?
- 25:11SPEAKER_07: I know you're friends, but yeah, I I listen, I consider him a good friend.
- 25:15SPEAKER_07: He I I would think the one thing we had in common a little bit is both of us cut our teeth under Gruden at some point.
- 25:22SPEAKER_07: And myself in ninety-seven and then Sean later.
- 25:28SPEAKER_07: Look, he's done, you know, a fabulous job coming to an organization that, you know, had recently just moved to LA and and then just the the year-in, year-out success.
- 25:41SPEAKER_07: I mean, that that's really what you begin to look at with coaches and in but no, I I we've got a I've got a ton of respect for him and he's sharp.
- 25:52SPEAKER_07: You watch this film, it's good film always to watch.
- 25:55SPEAKER_07: Of course, we had joint practices three years ago or whatever, and and so yeah, we've always always had a good relationship and you know, be a good challenge.
- 26:06SPEAKER_08: Do you do you have concern over running back?
- 26:08SPEAKER_08: Can you get this practice?
- 26:10SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I think I think we're I think we're we're good in that position.
- 26:14SPEAKER_07: You know, today one was limited and the other one didn't practice, but I think we're gonna be all right.
- 26:19SPEAKER_05: Sean, in terms of Jada, that's some playing much early on since the last thing he did last year.
- 26:24SPEAKER_05: Swazins.
- 26:27SPEAKER_07: Well, some of it's the packages you're in, you know, certainly he's starting in dime.
- 26:32SPEAKER_07: And so a lot of it depends on the defensive game plan, you know, and and the opponent, what they're doing.
- 26:38SPEAKER_07: This is this is a group that, you know, last week or last couple weeks, they're in a lot of heavy personnel.
- 26:43SPEAKER_07: So each week that can that can vary.
- 26:46SPEAKER_05: But the NML should look certainly uh towards the more heavy personnel.
- 26:50SPEAKER_05: Are you trying to find ways to get him on feeling more human teams are in Oilley?
- 26:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I think yeah, I think first is game planning the heavy and understanding what teams do from it, because it, you know, it's different.
- 27:02SPEAKER_07: And and then defending it.
- 27:04SPEAKER_07: And so, you know, whether that involves him or other players, you know, a lot of it's game plan.
- 27:09SPEAKER_08: What's your take on Aaron Donald coming back and how do you think he looked the other day?
- 27:13SPEAKER_07: Good.
- 27:14SPEAKER_07: Really good.
- 27:14SPEAKER_07: I mean, he you know, he's one of those guys that obviously is in great shape.
- 27:22SPEAKER_07: And shoot, to to be able to do that and you know, and play at a position inside where where that's not that's not easy, and and so certainly tracked him his whole career and and he's something else.
- 27:36SPEAKER_05: Sean, you talked about watching the last time these teams played was that Christmas game in 22.
- 27:41SPEAKER_05: Did you say that again?
- 27:42SPEAKER_05: The last time the Broncos Rams played was that Christmas game in 22.
- 27:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 27:46SPEAKER_05: You've talked about watching that game.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: How much did you like?
- 27:48SPEAKER_05: Was Denver on your radar screen on that day watching that game?
- 27:51SPEAKER_05: How much did you have a learning?
- 27:52SPEAKER_07: I I what I was at I was at the Denver Charger game.
- 28:00SPEAKER_07: I don't know why I was invited.
- 28:01SPEAKER_07: I think it was Sunday night football.
- 28:04SPEAKER_07: Yeah, earlier in the season.
- 28:05SPEAKER_07: Overtime?
- 28:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah, Monday night.
- 28:07SPEAKER_07: Monday night.
- 28:08SPEAKER_07: So I was at that game just because I was living near LA.
- 28:12SPEAKER_07: I don't really recall the the game you're referencing.
- 28:14SPEAKER_07: I I kind of do, but when was that?
- 28:18SPEAKER_07: Christmas?
- 28:19SPEAKER_05: Christmas Day, yeah.
- 28:21SPEAKER_05: I'm just curious like when when you thought of Denver as an opportunity, and then how much like research goes into like is USB.
- 28:29SPEAKER_07: It would have been after that, I think.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: You know, it would have been after that.
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: And then it would have been I'm sure probably sometime in January.
- 28:41SPEAKER_07: But it it wasn't at that time.
- 28:44SPEAKER_05: You told Jason D.
- 28:45SPEAKER_07: You you you're almost like interviewing owners as much as they no, when you went through that look, the first time around when I got hired by New Orleans, you know, you're you're a young coach and you're looking for an opportunity, and and then this time around I've said this before, you know, it wasn't like you picked a team that was in the same division as Kansas City with Patrick and Andy, but it just felt like the right ownership commitment in the right group, fan base, all of those things were important.
- 29:19SPEAKER_07: Like you wanna you wanna be somewhere where it's relevant and important, there's a tradition, and I think you guys have all covered this team.
- 29:26SPEAKER_07: So that kind of evolved in that interview process with four or five teams.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: Does Craig pop his head down this week and say this has got some Thanksgiving bragging rights involved here, family issue?
- 29:38SPEAKER_07: He doesn't have to pop his, I mean, he's literally right next door.
- 29:41SPEAKER_07: So it's easy to communicate.
- 29:44SPEAKER_05: Coach, when you're looking at the Rams pass rush, obviously it's really good.
- 29:47SPEAKER_05: Is he easier to scheme an edge guy compared to a guy in the middle like Aaron Donald?
- 29:52SPEAKER_07: Always been asked that question.
- 29:54SPEAKER_07: I think, yeah, I mean, i is it easy to to line someone up a nudge or that is not as difficult as like handling this three technique that can line up either way, and and then when they cover the center, you know, you're one-on-one.
- 30:11SPEAKER_07: So, you know, a player like him can be more challenging, not only because of his skill set, but where where he's aligned.
- 30:20SPEAKER_05: Sean, I'll take just curious to see.
- 30:24SPEAKER_05: But my I guess in part perspective, running backs often come out and just like this guy's uh you know, maybe dude's miss and that type of thing.
- 30:31SPEAKER_05: But how do you coach that?
- 30:40SPEAKER_07: I I think and I'm being honest to your question, I think you're finding those traits and drafting those traits and signing those traits.
- 30:50SPEAKER_07: There's a lot of things that you can coach with that position.
- 30:54SPEAKER_07: And I think I think it starts with, you know, the understanding of each run scheme, you know, where we think it's going, who we're keying.
- 31:03SPEAKER_07: But I don't look I'll I remember this the the first time I went back to San Diego State as a full-time coach, I was the running back coach and I had Marshall Falk.
- 31:17SPEAKER_07: And I think the best advice I got from Dennis Raits at Indiana State was, you know, it's a lot easier to find a running back coach than a running back like him.
- 31:25SPEAKER_07: So, you know, you you you want to take the skill set, and then every once in a while, you know, here are the important things, and then there's a point where it stops, and then you're not overcoaching, if that makes any sense, you know.
- 31:38SPEAKER_07: So you're you're drafting it, you're seeing it, and then in your report, is he a bounce runner, is he speedrunner, is he you know, there are different styles, and I think it's gotta fit what you're looking for.
- 31:53SPEAKER_08: Put together like something for this week.
- 31:55SPEAKER_08: Are you cognizant of how many times you gave somebody one on one on Donald player like Yes?
- 32:02SPEAKER_08: You comment like, well, you mean run this.
- 32:05SPEAKER_07: Yeah, like and and look, tonight's an important meeting because tonight's third down, and those edge guys are playing well.
- 32:11SPEAKER_07: You saw the giant game.
- 32:13SPEAKER_07: I mean, you know, they were meeting at the quarterback.
- 32:15SPEAKER_07: So tonight's meeting will be super important.
- 32:19SPEAKER_07: You know, the when you have to throw it, you know, those third downs, and then the timing of the route and when the ball's coming out.
- 32:28SPEAKER_07: I think all of that goes into it.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: Coach, there's a there's a report that Arthur that uh Jonah Coleman suffered a straight angle in that game and then finished the game.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: How how impressive was it, especially since he was the guy carrying the ball at the end of the game?
- 32:38SPEAKER_07: He was impressive in the game.
- 32:39SPEAKER_07: I mean, uh I'm I'm uninterested in the reports with injuries.
- 32:44SPEAKER_07: Anything else?
- 32:45SPEAKER_06: Are you gonna make us wait until the injury comes out?
- 32:47SPEAKER_06: Uninterested.
- 32:48SPEAKER_06: What do you think?
- 32:49SPEAKER_06: I think so, but what do you think?
- 32:50SPEAKER_06: Be nice to us.
- 32:51SPEAKER_07: I'm not gonna be nice to you as we get ready to play an important game, so holy cow.
- 32:56SPEAKER_07: Any more questions?
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: Coach.
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: I've been the game on Sunday and we'll talk about how when he was in the huddle, he asked his guys who wants to volunteer, and everybody jumps up at the opportunity.
- 33:03SPEAKER_05: But also said there's no selfish guys in that room.
- 33:07SPEAKER_05: Why is that so important that a team may go where you can add a guy like Jay Lennon in?
- 33:11SPEAKER_07: I think it's a strength of his, and I think it's a strength of Cortland's and you know, in their DNA, and you know those are those are guys that appreciate winning, and and so part of that goes into who we're looking for.
- 33:30SPEAKER_07: And look, we want receivers that want the ball, but you know, that that part was very clean with Jalen and it has been since day one with Cortland.
- 33:43SPEAKER_07: I mean, holy cow.
- 33:45SPEAKER_07: Those guys are are tremendous in that regard.
- 33:48SPEAKER_08: Do you do you marchize on that evaluation since you think coach hard way for a second?
- 33:54SPEAKER_07: It matters, yeah.
- 33:55SPEAKER_07: It might well it yeah, it matters.
- 33:57SPEAKER_07: It we don't downgrade the ones that haven't.
- 34:01SPEAKER_07: But it does answer, yeah, it answers, you know, you you know that answers some questions, absolutely.
- 34:07SPEAKER_07: And it doesn't, you know, it's coach hard's one thing, but like you earn that.
- 34:13SPEAKER_07: And so it's not just you know, it's they're they flourish in a good program with structure and and most of these guys want that.
- 34:22SPEAKER_05: Sean, what do you mean just overall of of both or two games the way he's he's bad time now with throwing the ball at the last yeah, two different games really, and so the other one can't get in our rearview mirror quick enough.
- 34:35SPEAKER_07: You know, I mean it's I it's still kind of there, but the horizon's gonna dissipate.
- 34:41SPEAKER_07: Um, I think what you know what matters most is that second half and and he played really good in the second half.
- 34:48SPEAKER_07: So this will be, you know, in yeah, different opponent, and yet obviously a real good opponent.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: So in the beginning of that that news conference he was referring to a report that came out where the Seattle Seahawks had fans record the Broncos plays before they played them three years ago and kind of knew what was happening, and and the coach for Seattle admitted it and came out and and then obviously he immediately called Sean Payton and they talked about it and understanding and and that's you know, okay.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: It happened and and you know they're fine with it and they talked about it, and it's you know, something that that probably the the coach in Seattle shouldn't have said, but you know, it w it was out there.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: So I I think you can you can tell by his reaction, you know, week two's over, week three's there.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: This is a very important game.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: You know, we we need to be ready, we need to be focused, you know.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: You got one of the best pass rushers in the game with Aaron Donald coming into town and you know, we'll we'll see.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: You know, and and the other thing that on on social media here, especially during the game that you saw, just comment after comment after comment and post after post after post.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, you gotta you gotta fire Davis Webb, you gotta f Come on, guys.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's week two.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: You know, let's see how he does you know this weekend.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: And if he still continues to struggle and if I can't by weekend, you know, they're not where you know Sean Payton wants him to be then.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe Sean Payton at that point should should take over the play calling, but you know, we'll see.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: So week three of College Football Starts this week.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Week three of week four of College Football Starts.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: Week three of the NFL starts.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: So let's see.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: And as always, Go Buffs, Roll Tide, Go Broncos.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Thank you for listening to T Buffo and Sports 110, all game podcast 15.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: See you later.
