- 0:14Speaker 1: Keiser, Texas legend, a Hall of Fame broadcaster, the voice
- 0:19Speaker 1: of the Texas Longhorns, and your host of the Craigway Show.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Here he is now, Craig Way.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I wish I was all those things. I am not
- 0:39Speaker 2: all those things.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I am not the estimable, legendary Craig Way, the voice
- 0:44Speaker 3: of the Lonehorns. The voice is they'd like to call
- 0:47Speaker 3: him on the east side of things. But my man
- 0:49Speaker 3: craig Way is out. So is Cameron. I appreciate those
- 0:52Speaker 3: guys forgiving me the time and the opportunity to guest
- 0:56Speaker 3: host the craig Way Show for you. So I appreciate them,
- 1:00Speaker 3: and I appreciate you guys for joining us as well.
- 1:02Speaker 2: We got a lot to get into on the show.
- 1:04Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:04Speaker 3: We'll talk plenty of Texas for guys know how to
- 1:07Speaker 3: do it. I'm always talking Texas football in the opportunity
- 1:09Speaker 3: I get. So we'll stay behind the burnt orange curtain,
- 1:12Speaker 3: talk about the latest declarations Longhorns who have made their
- 1:16Speaker 3: declaration to go to the NFL Draft for go the
- 1:19Speaker 3: rest of their eligibility on the forty acres Cameron Williams.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Cam Williams being one of the latest to enter the
- 1:26Speaker 3: NFL Draft from the forty acres. We got a lot
- 1:28Speaker 3: of other guys that we'll talk about too, but it
- 1:30Speaker 3: is a long list. So the twenty twenty five roster
- 1:33Speaker 3: for the long Horns will look very, very different than
- 1:36Speaker 3: it looked in twenty twenty four.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So we'll talk about it. We'll get into it.
- 1:39Speaker 3: We'll dive deep into some Texas football conversation, but also
- 1:42Speaker 3: we got lots of NFL discussion to get into. We'll
- 1:44Speaker 3: talk about what we learned from the first round of
- 1:47Speaker 3: the NFL playoffs.
- 1:48Speaker 2: We'll get into it.
- 1:50Speaker 3: We'll all talk about the Texans, We'll talk about the
- 1:51Speaker 3: Cowboys and they're head coaching vacancy. As a matter of fact,
- 1:55Speaker 3: we'll start there. That's the biggest story probably right now
- 1:58Speaker 3: in sports. Jerry Jones knows how still a headline and
- 2:01Speaker 3: even stole headlines, I think from the NFL playoffs. The
- 2:05Speaker 3: first round was not all that entertaining, But Jerry Jones
- 2:09Speaker 3: and the latest coaching search for Jerry Jones and the
- 2:13Speaker 3: Cowboys is a very entertaining one, all right. All the
- 2:17Speaker 3: names that have come up are it hits coach to
- 2:19Speaker 3: home too. For the Longehorns, all right, because Steve Sarkis's
- 2:22Speaker 3: name has come up a couple of times. I don't
- 2:24Speaker 3: know how much validity there is to it, but Sark's
- 2:28Speaker 3: name has come up. That's a good thing for long
- 2:30Speaker 3: Wun fans. I'll tell you there's some goodness and bad
- 2:32Speaker 3: news to that that Sark's name. And Schefter said that
- 2:37Speaker 3: it's not just for the Cowboys vacancy, that his name
- 2:41Speaker 3: has come up for several vacancies, potentially just because of
- 2:45Speaker 3: his NFL background.
- 2:47Speaker 2: We'll talk about it.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I'll tell you why that's a good and a bad
- 2:49Speaker 3: thing for long Horn fans. We'll get into that too. Also,
- 2:52Speaker 3: we'll dive into some Texans conversation. I want to talk
- 2:55Speaker 3: about that. But all of the other NFL playoff games
- 2:59Speaker 3: from this past weekend, we'll get into it and talk
- 3:01Speaker 3: about a little bit. And even though one of course
- 3:03Speaker 3: from Monday night, we'll get into that too. The Rams
- 3:06Speaker 3: look fantastic, the Vikings not so much. But I'm sure
- 3:09Speaker 3: man Craig Wait is excited because he's a Rams fan
- 3:12Speaker 3: and his Rams are advancing in the NFL playoffs.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So we'll get into it. You can hit me up
- 3:17Speaker 2: via Twitter.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I'm at Rod Babers in the Twitter verse, Ronald behind
- 3:21Speaker 3: the scenes, twisting and tweaking the dolls, so I appreciate
- 3:23Speaker 3: him as well.
- 3:24Speaker 2: All right, so let's get into it. Let's get right
- 3:27Speaker 2: to it.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Let's start with the Dallas Cowboys, because I think that
- 3:30Speaker 3: is the big topic of conversation. We'll get to Longhorn football.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I tell you, I promise you that, you know, we'll
- 3:37Speaker 3: get into it here in just a second. Matter of fact,
- 3:39Speaker 3: this Cowboys, they can see, relates to long horned football,
- 3:42Speaker 3: and we'll be able to just.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Bridge the gap really easily.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So Jerry Jones decided to Well, they said it was
- 3:48Speaker 3: a mutual pointing of voice, no boy, which I don't
- 3:52Speaker 3: agree with. That's not I don't believe that. I don't
- 3:55Speaker 3: believe in the mutual breakups. I'm sure they exist, I'm
- 3:59Speaker 3: sure they're accepted sense of the rule. But for the
- 4:01Speaker 3: most part, there are no mutual breakups. Somebody instigated the breakup.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Somebody started, right if breaking up is like indeed, knocking
- 4:10Speaker 3: over a coke machine, somebody had to start, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 3: pushing it over.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Somebody had just started get the momentum going.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And I think ultimately Jerry Jones wanted to move on.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I mean he allowed his coach to be a lame
- 4:23Speaker 3: duck coach right for the entire season. I mean that
- 4:27Speaker 3: right there tells you, well, I'm not very interested if
- 4:29Speaker 3: you allow your coach to be a lame duck coach.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I get it.
- 4:31Speaker 3: You want to see what his team did this season.
- 4:33Speaker 3: But everything went off the rails with the injury to
- 4:35Speaker 3: Dak and we've obviously went over that at Nassium. So
- 4:39Speaker 3: I don't think Jerry Jones loved Mike McCarthy. I think
- 4:42Speaker 3: he liked Mike McCarthy. They didn't love him, he didn't
- 4:45Speaker 3: love he didn't want to commit to him, and so
- 4:48Speaker 3: I think Jerry Jones was the one who really started
- 4:50Speaker 3: this thing. And the truth is, Mike McCarthy. I think
- 4:54Speaker 3: he's gonna end up getting a head coaching job. A
- 4:56Speaker 3: lot of people say that the Bears. He's got leave
- 5:00Speaker 3: an interview with the Bears tomorrow. He's also been a
- 5:05Speaker 3: hot name for that Saints opening. I think Mike McArthur
- 5:07Speaker 3: will end up getting a head coaching job because Mike
- 5:09Speaker 3: McCarthy's a I mean he's a he's a good coach
- 5:12Speaker 3: and he was a great coach, but he is a
- 5:16Speaker 3: good coach.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Proved that with the Dallas Cowboys.
- 5:18Speaker 3: But the Dallas Cowboys, you gotta be a certain kind
- 5:21Speaker 3: of coach too, right, you gotta there's a there's a
- 5:25Speaker 3: they're trying to thread the needle here because Jerry Jones,
- 5:28Speaker 3: you know, he wants a great coach. He wants a great,
- 5:32Speaker 3: elite football coach, but he also wants one that doesn't
- 5:35Speaker 3: want too much control, and one that is willing to
- 5:39Speaker 3: allow Jerry Jones to put out mixed messages to the
- 5:44Speaker 3: media about the team, what's going on with the team,
- 5:46Speaker 3: because it's his team. But he may not necessarily be
- 5:49Speaker 3: on the same page with the head coach because and
- 5:51Speaker 3: a dish jointed, unorthodox chain of command and the and
- 5:57Speaker 3: most ball coaches like really good ball coach. They want,
- 6:01Speaker 3: as Bill Parcells once said, all right, if I'm gonna
- 6:06Speaker 3: cook the meal, you gotta allow me to buy the groceries.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They want some control behind the scenes.
- 6:10Speaker 3: And Jerry Jones controls it all right, controls the message
- 6:15Speaker 3: and behind the scenes, he's ultimately making the final decisions.
- 6:18Speaker 3: And you gotta find a coach that's fine with that situation.
- 6:24Speaker 3: And most of the coaches who are fine with that situation,
- 6:26Speaker 3: aren't necessarily great football coaches. The few that Jerry has
- 6:30Speaker 3: hired that have been considered elite football coaches. You're Jimmy Johnson's,
- 6:35Speaker 3: you're Bill part Sells. You're talking about all time great
- 6:37Speaker 3: Hall of Fame coluber guys, and even Mike McCarthy, who
- 6:40Speaker 3: won a Super Bowl. They've decided at one point, no good,
- 6:45Speaker 3: I'm okay, this is this is which is way more
- 6:48Speaker 3: than I bargained for. Even though Jimmy Johnson won Super Bowls,
- 6:52Speaker 3: even though Bill Parcells had success and got them really
- 6:56Speaker 3: really close, and Mike McCarthy had, you know, a minimal.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Amount of successful with the Cowboys.
- 7:03Speaker 3: They decided because I think those are the most reputable,
- 7:07Speaker 3: respectable coaches that Jerry Jones has had since he's been there.
- 7:13Speaker 3: And they've all decided this one a mutual parting of ways.
- 7:16Speaker 3: But we know how the Bill par Sales team work out,
- 7:19Speaker 3: all right. We know how Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones.
- 7:24Speaker 3: We know those two egos clashed, couldn't work it out.
- 7:28Speaker 3: So the question is when you hire somebody here who
- 7:30Speaker 3: we're gonna get. We're gonna get somebody who and the
- 7:32Speaker 3: rest of the coaches. I'm not knocking them, not saying
- 7:35Speaker 3: that they're bad football coaches, but they're not super Bowl
- 7:39Speaker 3: caliber coaches, right, They're not coaches are gonna win you
- 7:41Speaker 3: a super Bowl? And the other coaches had already they
- 7:47Speaker 3: either proved it with the Cowboys or they had proven
- 7:49Speaker 3: it before they got to the Cowboys, and then ultimately
- 7:53Speaker 3: all ended up being so at odds with Jerry Jones
- 7:57Speaker 3: that either a mutual party of ways, are you know deuces,
- 8:01Speaker 3: I gotta get out of here, I gotta go. I
- 8:03Speaker 3: can't handle it. So that that's the question with this
- 8:06Speaker 3: next tire. Are you gonna get a real ball coach,
- 8:09Speaker 3: somebody who's got.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Super Bowl potential?
- 8:14Speaker 3: Are you gonna get somebody who just works well with
- 8:17Speaker 3: Jerry Jones? And Jerry Jones he listen, he knows, he
- 8:22Speaker 3: knows how to win a super Bowl. He knows the
- 8:23Speaker 3: guy that got to hire he does. It just doesn't
- 8:25Speaker 3: always mean it gonna work out.
- 8:26Speaker 5: Now.
- 8:26Speaker 3: I the Mike McCarthy think is interesting. I've said before,
- 8:29Speaker 3: and we'll get into this later on the show. You
- 8:32Speaker 3: had reached her five years with Mike McCarthy. I'm a
- 8:35Speaker 3: big five year rule in the league. You guys know
- 8:37Speaker 3: this big five year rule in the NFL. Think the
- 8:40Speaker 3: NFL is built around it, the five year rule that basically,
- 8:44Speaker 3: if you got a coach and you got a quarterback
- 8:47Speaker 3: and they've been together for five years or in ell
- 8:53Speaker 3: More and they haven't shown you that they are capable
- 8:56Speaker 3: of winning the Super Bowl, it's time to move on.
- 8:59Speaker 3: It's probably trying, not either from the quarterback or from
- 9:02Speaker 3: the head coach. It's time to make a signal. And
- 9:04Speaker 3: I know that sounds crazy, but the stat does not lie.
- 9:08Speaker 3: You guys know him big on the NOBS. History don't lie.
- 9:11Speaker 3: The five year rule. No team has ever won his
- 9:16Speaker 3: first Super Bowl by starting the same quarterback for the
- 9:18Speaker 3: same coach for more than five seasons.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Never, not in the super Bowl era. Never happened. The
- 9:25Speaker 2: NFL has built there.
- 9:28Speaker 3: They've built the entire structure, infrastructure of the league, the
- 9:31Speaker 3: salary cap, the way the draft is structured, everything is around.
- 9:35Speaker 3: You got a window, and your window is about five years.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I do think Jerry Jones had a sense suburbency about that,
- 9:43Speaker 3: and I think that may have been one of the
- 9:45Speaker 3: big reasons why Yeah, I got because I predicted actually
- 9:49Speaker 3: that Mike McCarthy would stay, and I think that I
- 9:52Speaker 3: thought that he would. There's like, nah, he's not gonna
- 9:54Speaker 3: find anything better. He knows he and Mike McCarthy at
- 9:56Speaker 3: least they work well enough together. Because he knows that
- 10:00Speaker 3: he's ultimately butted heads with great coaches, he decided to
- 10:04Speaker 3: move on. I think the five year rule. He was thinking,
- 10:06Speaker 3: I'm not gonna win a super Bowl with them, now
- 10:08Speaker 3: gonna win the Super Bowl with him? Hey, let's try
- 10:11Speaker 3: to find somebody who will. But the Cowboys, who are
- 10:14Speaker 3: the number one TV star, the number one TV show
- 10:17Speaker 3: in America. They do operate by a different set of rules,
- 10:22Speaker 3: so they're actually a better TV show than they are
- 10:25Speaker 3: a football team, which is why they're the most valuable
- 10:27Speaker 3: sports franchise on the planet, because they know how to
- 10:29Speaker 3: market themselves.
- 10:30Speaker 2: We'll come back.
- 10:31Speaker 3: We'll talk about the Cowboys, the coaching potential candidates to
- 10:35Speaker 3: feel that vacancy, Sark being one of them. We'll also
- 10:38Speaker 3: talk about the Texas football team, a high's gonna look
- 10:40Speaker 3: in twenty twenty five with all the departures, all that
- 10:42Speaker 3: and more, coming back on The Craigway Show right here
- 10:45Speaker 3: on AM thirteen hundred. All right, welcome back to the
- 10:49Speaker 3: Craigway Show. I'm lifetime longoe. Rod Babers sitting in for Craigway.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Appreciate Craig Way. Let me sit in for them while
- 10:55Speaker 3: he's on the road. He and my man Cam Parker.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Let's we'll get to the get back to the Cowboys
- 11:01Speaker 3: story in just a second, but let's just kind of
- 11:04Speaker 3: go through some of the departures with the long Horns
- 11:09Speaker 3: that have announced their even going to the NFL. And
- 11:12Speaker 3: you know, obviously some guys are just done with their eligibility,
- 11:16Speaker 3: but some of the guys who are underclassmen, who had
- 11:18Speaker 3: more eligibility more will decide they're going. So those guys included,
- 11:23Speaker 3: but the list continues to grow, and man, it's getting
- 11:27Speaker 3: longer and longer. So now, and I just saw this
- 11:31Speaker 3: Cam Williams, which who I thought may have been one
- 11:35Speaker 3: of the ones the long Horns could have potentially, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 3: tried to keep or maybe he would have decided to
- 11:41Speaker 3: stay to increase his draft stock and improve his draft stock.
- 11:45Speaker 3: He was already being projected as a first round pick
- 11:48Speaker 3: potentially early on the season. I think since a lot
- 11:53Speaker 3: of that talk has cooled, if you will, I think
- 11:56Speaker 3: now his draft stock is probably around him being a
- 11:58Speaker 3: second round pick. But either way, the second round pick,
- 12:03Speaker 3: he doesn't care. Second round pick is good enough. Uh So,
- 12:06Speaker 3: Cam Williams is the latest Longhorn news decided that he's
- 12:10Speaker 3: declaring for the NFL Draft underclassmen but more guys, I mean,
- 12:16Speaker 3: I mean the list is crazier of course, And Jake
- 12:19Speaker 3: Majors and Gunnerhelm, guys who had Vernon Broughton, guys who
- 12:22Speaker 3: had exhausted their eligibility too.
- 12:25Speaker 2: They were deciding to go.
- 12:26Speaker 3: But David Bendo, who says that is his time, I
- 12:30Speaker 3: think these guys actually were done with their eligibility.
- 12:34Speaker 2: But Matthew Golden has decided that he's.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Going more more blackwell as another player that's leaving Isaiah Bond,
- 12:42Speaker 3: another player that decided that he's headed to the NFL
- 12:46Speaker 3: C your receiving corps, I mean, you're not retaining much
- 12:49Speaker 3: considering you're gonna be losing Isaiah Bond, losing Matthew Golden,
- 12:54Speaker 3: uh from their receiving corps to uh So, uh it's
- 12:58Speaker 3: a man right now. It's a good thing. It's a
- 13:00Speaker 3: brief thing because the Longhorns have a ton of talent
- 13:03Speaker 3: and you know, right now, a lot of that talent
- 13:06Speaker 3: is you know being being.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Is draft eligible and is draftable talent.
- 13:12Speaker 3: But it's gonna completely kind of change the entire landscape
- 13:16Speaker 3: of the twenty twenty five roster. I think the positions
- 13:21Speaker 3: that are gonna be hit the hardest, you know, by
- 13:23Speaker 3: the departures. Like I said, it will go over them
- 13:25Speaker 3: kind of, you know, player by player because some of
- 13:28Speaker 3: these happened a couple of days ago. But I think
- 13:32Speaker 3: it's wide receiver and old line now, no doubt. Considering
- 13:36Speaker 3: Jake Major's I mean, Jake Major started more games to
- 13:38Speaker 3: either player in Texas football history.
- 13:41Speaker 2: He's gone. You're gonna lose Kelvin Banks.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Are you gonna be the greatest offensive lineman in Texas
- 13:47Speaker 3: football history?
- 13:48Speaker 2: You can make that case.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Won multiple national awards and started since he was a
- 13:53Speaker 3: true freshman.
- 13:54Speaker 2: He's gone. And now Cam Williams very high end talent.
- 13:58Speaker 2: He's gonna be going.
- 13:59Speaker 3: To You said, you're losing almost your entire offensive line,
- 14:05Speaker 3: Like you're losing basically the entire offensive line. That's a concern,
- 14:10Speaker 3: and you're losing a lot of your receiving corps. Brian
- 14:13Speaker 3: Wingo is gonna be fantastic coming back like that Deandrew
- 14:16Speaker 3: Moore is coming back to you, but you don't return
- 14:19Speaker 3: a ton of proven talent in your.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Wide receiving corps.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Starks always done a good job of bringing in wide
- 14:25Speaker 3: receiver talent via the transfer portal, so you'll have that
- 14:28Speaker 3: opportunity to But those two positions definitely hit the hardest,
- 14:32Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it from the latest departures. And
- 14:36Speaker 3: like I said, we'll go over them like in more
- 14:38Speaker 3: detail a little bit later on the show and talk
- 14:41Speaker 3: about each position and each player's projections in the NFL Draft.
- 14:47Speaker 3: But those are just some of the latest I'm sure
- 14:49Speaker 3: there will be more we talked about, you know, Jayden
- 14:52Speaker 3: Blues and other one of those guys that you're gonna miss.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Considering fourteen total touchdowns from Jadan Blue, over a thousand
- 14:59Speaker 3: all purpose yards for Jaden Blue, you know, that's just
- 15:02Speaker 3: a weapon that you're gonna miss on offense and proved
- 15:06Speaker 3: to be your most effective weapon versus Ohio State. And
- 15:10Speaker 3: uh so we'll talk about that too coming up. But
- 15:12Speaker 3: let's get back to the Cowboys and their vacancy and
- 15:18Speaker 3: the names that have been associated with the Cowboys job opening.
- 15:25Speaker 3: It's interesting because the names that you hear, are the
- 15:28Speaker 3: most salacious and the most you know. They're they're interesting,
- 15:36Speaker 3: they're entertaining. I don't know how substantive they are. Dion
- 15:42Speaker 3: Sanders is the top name that you keep hearing, which
- 15:45Speaker 3: makes perfect sense. If the Cowboys are indeed a TV show,
- 15:50Speaker 3: that is the move you make. That's it, like it
- 15:54Speaker 3: really if if that, If the Cowboys are indeed what
- 15:57Speaker 3: we all thought they have always been, which is more
- 16:00Speaker 3: of a TV show than a football team, this Deon
- 16:04Speaker 3: Sander's movie is gonna prove it. I'm not saying it
- 16:06Speaker 3: ain't gonna work. I love de On Sanders. I wore
- 16:08Speaker 3: number twenty one at Texas because.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Of d On Sands. That's how much I loved him.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I want number two.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Coach Tim Brewster, who recruited me, he said, oh man,
- 16:15Speaker 3: you won't number twenty one because that's what he is
- 16:16Speaker 3: in the league. I won number two. That's how much
- 16:18Speaker 3: I loved Don. Wanted to be like Don my entire career.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Of course, I mean what Corey didn't, but it be
- 16:25Speaker 3: like prime Time. But that wasn't gonna happen. But Primetime
- 16:29Speaker 3: nobody sold the brand that they personified better than prime Time.
- 16:36Speaker 3: That's what Jerry Jones respected about him, and that's what
- 16:38Speaker 3: he respected about Jerry Jones. The greatest sports marketing mind
- 16:42Speaker 3: and arguably one of the greatest sports promoters in the
- 16:45Speaker 3: history of sports is Jerry Jones.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Whether y'all like it or not, he's part.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Of the formula that makes them the number one TV
- 16:53Speaker 3: star on the number one TV show because he's always
- 16:56Speaker 3: a villain. Villains create conflict, Conflict create storylines. The Cowboys
- 17:01Speaker 3: always got a storyline. So here's Adam Schefter when he
- 17:05Speaker 3: was as he was on Undisputed I Believe, and he
- 17:09Speaker 3: was asked about the prospect of Dion Sanders being the
- 17:15Speaker 3: Cowboys next head coach. Here's what Adam Schefter, the Insider.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Had to say.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Quoted Dion last night in the second half of the game,
- 17:23Speaker 6: and he said to me that he was not intending
- 17:29Speaker 6: to go to the NFL.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Not that he will go to the NFL, that's not.
- 17:33Speaker 6: What he was thinking, but that the love and respect
- 17:37Speaker 6: he has for Jerry Jones is so great that if
- 17:40Speaker 6: Jerry Jones calls him, he's always going to listen.
- 17:45Speaker 4: And that's what happened.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Now.
- 17:48Speaker 6: Dian also has been talking to Colorado and.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Said that he had it very clear.
- 17:56Speaker 6: He loves it there, loves it there, and he loves
- 17:58Speaker 6: Jerry Jones, And honestly, that's a great spot to be.
- 18:02Speaker 6: And if you're Deon Sanders, because you're going to have
- 18:05Speaker 6: two winning hands here, that's a question of which one
- 18:08Speaker 6: you want to play, if you can even play both
- 18:10Speaker 6: of them.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Now. I don't know that we'll get to that bull
- 18:14Speaker 4: with Dallas, it certainly can.
- 18:16Speaker 6: I think back to a conversation that I had about
- 18:20Speaker 6: I don't know, sixteen seventeen, eighteen months ago, where I
- 18:23Speaker 6: was talking to an NFL general manager.
- 18:25Speaker 4: He said, I got a prediction, before you mark.
- 18:26Speaker 6: It down right now, the next head coach in the
- 18:29Speaker 6: Dallas Cowboys is going to be Dion Sanders. And I
- 18:32Speaker 6: was like, really, okay, And I always remember that, and
- 18:36Speaker 6: lo and behold, Jerry checked there with Dion yesterday and.
- 18:42Speaker 4: They'll continue talking. But I said that Dion last night,
- 18:46Speaker 4: So what's next?
- 18:47Speaker 6: And he said, I don't know, And I said, you
- 18:52Speaker 6: don't know, I don't know, So I think everything's really
- 18:55Speaker 6: up in the air. Maybe that means talk's intensified. Maybe
- 19:00Speaker 6: he means they don't I don't think he knows right now.
- 19:03Speaker 6: I think it's all in.
- 19:04Speaker 4: The beginning stages. And by the way, I think that's
- 19:08Speaker 4: probably also true for the Dallas Cowboys.
- 19:10Speaker 6: Like they think, Okay, well, we like Dion, but we.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Also like whoever else is, and there may be other people.
- 19:19Speaker 6: And as you go on in the process, you become
- 19:23Speaker 6: more and more impressed with certain people and less impressed
- 19:25Speaker 6: with others, and you're interested in hiring certain people. Shifts,
- 19:30Speaker 6: and so I don't know where it's gonna go. Eon
- 19:33Speaker 6: Sanders doesn't know where it's gonna go. Jerry doesn't know
- 19:36Speaker 6: where it's gonna go. But it's certainly interesting that he's
- 19:40Speaker 6: interested in beyond that they've spoken, and that there's definitely some.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Level of interest with Beyond Sanders in return.
- 19:48Speaker 2: All right, yeah, it's kind of been over the job.
- 19:52Speaker 3: We don't know this for sure, but it sounds like
- 19:56Speaker 3: Dion has kind of been off the job that Adam
- 19:58Speaker 3: Schefter tweeted out, this is from Dion to hear from
- 20:01Speaker 3: Jerry Jones. It's truly delightful and it's intriguing. I love
- 20:05Speaker 3: Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and
- 20:07Speaker 3: process it and think about it, it's intriguing, But I
- 20:10Speaker 3: love Boulder and everything there is about our team. The
- 20:14Speaker 3: coach is our student body and the community.
- 20:17Speaker 2: So we shall see. Jerry loves the drama and it did.
- 20:21Speaker 3: It is great drama now and it like I said,
- 20:23Speaker 3: it's very compelling that hor would be the most entertaining
- 20:27Speaker 3: hire in sports in some time. Dion in college is
- 20:31Speaker 3: a phenomenon. He's he's a kind of generational phenomenon. You've
- 20:36Speaker 3: never had a Hall of Fame player coach go back
- 20:40Speaker 3: to college and coach Hall of Fame players coach in
- 20:42Speaker 3: the NFL all the time.
- 20:43Speaker 2: That's where they go.
- 20:44Speaker 3: They're Hall of Fame players, they got that credibility. They
- 20:46Speaker 3: usually don't go to the go back to the college
- 20:49Speaker 3: leveling coach. So Deane is a superstar in college, get
- 20:53Speaker 3: the best players. Different animal in the NFL. He doesn't
- 20:57Speaker 3: have the same cachet. And I wonder if you know
- 21:01Speaker 3: that matters to Dion, that it's a different dcy. He
- 21:06Speaker 3: knows that, by the way, But that's a tricky The
- 21:09Speaker 3: names Deion Sanders, Jason Witten is another one. Bill Belichick,
- 21:12Speaker 3: Ben Johnson, Sark, John Gruden, Kellen Moore, Lincoln Roley, Doug Peterson,
- 21:16Speaker 3: Pete Carroll, if you've heard any more, throw him out
- 21:19Speaker 3: there to me. All Right, we come back. We'll talk
- 21:21Speaker 3: to Texas football. When we come back, we'll talk about
- 21:23Speaker 3: how that twenty twenty five roster is gonna look be
- 21:25Speaker 3: and all the departures that we've heard about so far.
- 21:28Speaker 3: All that more, right, He'll come back on the Craig
- 21:29Speaker 3: Waite Show right here on the zone. All right, welcome
- 21:31Speaker 3: back to the Craigway Show. Craig Way is on the road.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Because Craig Way is a you know, a busy man.
- 21:38Speaker 3: So Craig Way gave me the opportunity to guest hold
- 21:40Speaker 3: the show. So I really appreciate him giving me the opportunity.
- 21:43Speaker 3: So Craig and Cameron will be back next week. Actually,
- 21:46Speaker 3: I'm getting a chance to host for the rest of
- 21:47Speaker 3: the week, so I appreciate you guys joining us.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Let's talk some Texas football.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Let's go get into the go behind the Burnolds curtain
- 21:54Speaker 3: and get into some Texas football discussion.
- 21:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 21:56Speaker 3: So it's tough these days because of the OVID years
- 22:01Speaker 3: and all the other years of eligibility to track all
- 22:03Speaker 3: the guys like we used to be, like, oh man,
- 22:05Speaker 3: this guy is a senior and junior and and know
- 22:08Speaker 3: how many years of eligibility guys have left.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Sometimes it's tough. So I'm just gonna go through all
- 22:12Speaker 2: the guys.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Who are departing periods ones with eligibility and guys who
- 22:16Speaker 3: have exhausted eligibility, and honestly, now everybody puts out a statement.
- 22:20Speaker 3: It used to be guys put a statement if they
- 22:23Speaker 3: were just declaring early for.
- 22:25Speaker 2: The NFL Draft and they were underclassmen.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Now everybody puts out a statement saying I'm going to
- 22:29Speaker 3: the NFL draft.
- 22:30Speaker 2: It's like, well, how you know you getting drafted? I
- 22:32Speaker 2: don't mean what you mean you go into the NFL draft?
- 22:35Speaker 2: That what I mean?
- 22:37Speaker 3: Some guys I get it, like oh yeah, you you
- 22:39Speaker 3: gonna get drafted. But now everybody puts out like a
- 22:42Speaker 3: draft logo on the on their announcement, like.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Oh you get oh you get drafted. So you know,
- 22:47Speaker 2: I'm glad they're confident.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I'm glad everybody's confident that they getting drafted, and they're
- 22:51Speaker 3: just making their announcement and they always put like a
- 22:52Speaker 3: little twenty twenty five draft a little symbol on the announcement.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, good for y'all, you know, what
- 22:59Speaker 3: I mean, you gotta you gotta think positive, all right,
- 23:02Speaker 3: But here you go. So Quinn, he was obviously one
- 23:05Speaker 3: of the first, uh that came before the game versus
- 23:08Speaker 3: Ohio State. And we'll talk about Quinn Quinn's legacy all
- 23:11Speaker 3: that kind of stuff. Uh, But Quinn Jayden Blues on
- 23:15Speaker 3: that list. Jaden Blue is really interesting too. And some
- 23:17Speaker 3: people are thinking, oh, man, why did James Blue decide
- 23:19Speaker 3: to leave? You know, he had you know, you know more,
- 23:23Speaker 3: he had another year and maybe he could have come
- 23:25Speaker 3: back and you know, been I don't know, built on
- 23:28Speaker 3: what he had already done, which is over a thousand
- 23:30Speaker 3: all purpose shots at fourteen touchdowns.
- 23:32Speaker 2: He wasn't gonna do that. And running back is a
- 23:34Speaker 2: weird position.
- 23:35Speaker 3: It's not a premium position in the NFL, and it
- 23:38Speaker 3: has been devalued and undervalued. For the most part, I
- 23:41Speaker 3: think it is making a comeback with us like say
- 23:43Speaker 3: Courin Barkley playing well at a later age and and
- 23:46Speaker 3: Derrick Henry.
- 23:47Speaker 2: For the most part, that is the case.
- 23:48Speaker 3: You don't get a lot of running backs drafted early
- 23:51Speaker 3: INDI NFL draft, and that affects the rest of the
- 23:55Speaker 3: the draft as it relates to that position. So you know,
- 23:58Speaker 3: I get it. This is probably fourteen touchdowns. He ain't
- 24:02Speaker 3: gonna top that at Texas. He's and he's a good player,
- 24:06Speaker 3: but he's not gonna top that at Texas. And once
- 24:08Speaker 3: you believe you hit your ceiling, you know, in college,
- 24:11Speaker 3: it's probably time for you to go, especially at a
- 24:14Speaker 3: position like running back that's not a premium position. Will
- 24:17Speaker 3: he get drafted, There'll be They'll be maybe a quarter
- 24:21Speaker 3: of the league that would salivate over having a guy
- 24:26Speaker 3: like James Blue on their roster, Kansas City Chiefs being
- 24:30Speaker 3: one of the Miami Dolphins being one of them scheme
- 24:32Speaker 3: specific teams, And I think that's what they're banking on.
- 24:37Speaker 3: There we go, we've been We've showcased him on big stages,
- 24:40Speaker 3: scored two touchdowns versus of all House state on the
- 24:42Speaker 3: same you know, wheel route rail concept. You know they believe, hey,
- 24:47Speaker 3: in the right system, this guy can be weaponized. It
- 24:51Speaker 3: Even Stark weaponized him in that way, And I think
- 24:53Speaker 3: that's what they're banking on, with the value of the
- 24:56Speaker 3: running back position being what it is. Vernon Broughton he's
- 25:00Speaker 3: out too, but I believe he's one of those guys
- 25:02Speaker 3: that had exhausted eligibility, Andrew mccooba going to miss mccooba.
- 25:06Speaker 3: The five one and two crew we have not heard
- 25:08Speaker 3: totally because Jday Baron he's gone because he's got no
- 25:11Speaker 3: more eligibility. But in the Thorpe Award winner as the
- 25:13Speaker 3: best dB in college football, we'll talk about that too.
- 25:16Speaker 3: I'm gonna give you my at one point. I don't
- 25:19Speaker 3: know if I'll do it on this show this week,
- 25:20Speaker 3: but at one point I'm gonna have my DBU rankings.
- 25:23Speaker 3: I used to rank all the greatest dbs in DBU history,
- 25:27Speaker 3: all right, including myself at at at Texas. And I
- 25:30Speaker 3: didn't rank myself very high because, trust me, that's how
- 25:32Speaker 3: many great dbs there have been. I think I only
- 25:35Speaker 3: think I cracked the top twenty, and that's how many
- 25:37Speaker 3: great dbs. And I'm gonna get bumped again because now
- 25:39Speaker 3: Jday Baron is all there is a damn good player.
- 25:42Speaker 3: But Andrew mccooba, I didn't think he was gonna be
- 25:45Speaker 3: as physical as he turned out to be. I remember
- 25:48Speaker 3: questioning when I saw him up close to person. I
- 25:50Speaker 3: was like, he's small, He's he's small, He's a little dude.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I was like I see why he played nickel. Dad
- 25:56Speaker 3: Will said he played in every position. The second there, I
- 25:58Speaker 3: was like, yeah, probably more nickel in but his size
- 26:02Speaker 3: and stature does not reflect his style of play.
- 26:05Speaker 2: That dude is physical. He is a physical player.
- 26:08Speaker 3: So I expect mccooba kind of leaving on a high note.
- 26:12Speaker 3: That had a really good year. Matthew Golden, matt We'll
- 26:16Speaker 3: get into Matthew Golden because Dale Jeremiah had a tweet
- 26:19Speaker 3: that got Lohun fans really excited and kind of blew
- 26:22Speaker 3: me away too when I heard Dan Jeremiah. When I
- 26:25Speaker 3: saw Dane Jeremia's tweet, we'll get into that. Gavin Holmes
- 26:29Speaker 3: is another guy that that was surprising to me.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I think Gavin Holmes could have come back.
- 26:33Speaker 3: And competed for the other starting cornerback spot opposite Maliku Muhammad.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I know, Kobe Black's probably got the you know right now,
- 26:45Speaker 3: he probably has the inside track on that spot because
- 26:47Speaker 3: he's the only other corner we saw you know, a
- 26:50Speaker 3: good amount of during the season in some critical moments
- 26:55Speaker 3: and other than you know, kind of trash time. But
- 26:57Speaker 3: I man, I thought Gavin Holmes played really well. I
- 27:00Speaker 3: thought he was one of your better coverage defends. I
- 27:03Speaker 3: know this because when they went up against Ohio State,
- 27:05Speaker 3: the best wide receiving court they had faced all year.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Remember they when they would match and they would play
- 27:12Speaker 3: basically man on man, and they would want to match
- 27:16Speaker 3: up their best corner, Jday Baron with their best receiver,
- 27:20Speaker 3: Jeremiah Smith, and they did that a couple of times.
- 27:22Speaker 3: In the NASCAR package, they put Gavin Holmes out there
- 27:25Speaker 3: and he was matched up on the number three receiver,
- 27:28Speaker 3: not Jaalen Gilbo. So they believed that he was their
- 27:32Speaker 3: their third best coverage option. And I'm surprised that he's leaving.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Maybe on NFL scouts have told him or he's got
- 27:40Speaker 3: some responsive feedback that hey man, they've seen you on film.
- 27:44Speaker 2: They like the film. I like the film. God can
- 27:47Speaker 2: cover like he really did.
- 27:49Speaker 3: He improved a lot as a a coverage specialist.
- 27:53Speaker 2: If you were this year.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Kevin Banks, of course, I mean we've talked about him,
- 27:58Speaker 3: greatest offensive lineman in Texas football. Here you can make
- 28:01Speaker 3: the case me, uh enough said guy's gonna be a
- 28:04Speaker 3: top ten pick.
- 28:05Speaker 6: Uh.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Hayden Connor.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I was surprised. I didn't know if he had more
- 28:10Speaker 3: or not. So the Hayden Connor is a guy who
- 28:12Speaker 3: declared as well. We talked about Jave Blueton, Matthew Golden,
- 28:17Speaker 3: another guy, Isaiah Bond, we talked about him earlier. Isaiah
- 28:20Speaker 3: Bond has also declared, and that's surprising because his draft
- 28:24Speaker 3: stock dropped. He was projected as a first rounder before
- 28:27Speaker 3: the season started. He has world class be A lot
- 28:30Speaker 3: of people believe he's gonna run low four threes, maybe
- 28:33Speaker 3: even high four two's and that text. Man it Initially
- 28:39Speaker 3: he looked like he was gonna be your leading receiver.
- 28:41Speaker 3: He was gonna be your top dog in that receiving room.
- 28:44Speaker 3: He gets hurt and then the landscape changes.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Everything changes.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Matthew Golden steps up in that room, and Isaiah Bond's
- 28:52Speaker 3: never the same, Like we don't even see him really. Uh.
- 28:57Speaker 3: There are stretches throughout the season where they said he
- 28:59Speaker 3: was healthy and still there was no impact to me
- 29:02Speaker 3: on the game, including in the Ohio State game.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Moe Blackwell is also done. I believe he exhausted.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Elgibilly gunner Helm, who's guy's Gunnerhelm's got a case to
- 29:12Speaker 3: have one of the greatest, if not the greatest, kind
- 29:15Speaker 3: of tight end season. In Texas football history. It's in
- 29:18Speaker 3: the conversation. We can talk about that later on this week,
- 29:21Speaker 3: but just get your mind right. Cam Williams, another guy
- 29:24Speaker 3: declared for the NFL draft, did not have a great
- 29:27Speaker 3: game versus House State. A lot of people thought he
- 29:29Speaker 3: was hurt. Gave up two sacks. I believe five pressures
- 29:31Speaker 3: in that game as well. And and then Delton Gardner
- 29:34Speaker 3: is also deciding that he's going. He's declared for the draft.
- 29:38Speaker 3: I believe he was exhausted his eligibility. But still, like
- 29:41Speaker 3: I said, everybody throws out the draft on their announcement,
- 29:44Speaker 3: whether they're getting drafted or that it doesn't matter. All right,
- 29:47Speaker 3: we go back. We'll get into more more long horned
- 29:50Speaker 3: football discussion. We'll talk about what the twenty twenty five
- 29:53Speaker 3: roster is gonna look like, and talk about some of
- 29:56Speaker 3: the departures. And that tweet from Darren Dale Jeremiah Bout
- 29:59Speaker 3: Matthew Golden says a lot about what his draft stock
- 30:03Speaker 3: and what he achieved in the last couple of games
- 30:05Speaker 3: for the Longhorns. All that more right here on the
- 30:06Speaker 3: Craigway Show, right here on the zone. All right, welcome
- 30:09Speaker 3: back to.
- 30:09Speaker 2: The to the Craigway Show.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I am a lifetime Longhorn Rod Babers sitting in for
- 30:15Speaker 3: Craig Way who is on the road, so I appreciate
- 30:18Speaker 3: craig Way led me a guest host the show for
- 30:21Speaker 3: a couple of shows this week. Let's get back to
- 30:24Speaker 3: the Longhorn football conversation. I just kind of went through
- 30:27Speaker 3: the list of guys who are you know, either declaring
- 30:30Speaker 3: for the NFL Draft or guys whose eligibility has been
- 30:33Speaker 3: exhausted so they're heading to the NFL. How many of
- 30:36Speaker 3: these guys are actually gonna get drafted, like in my opinion,
- 30:40Speaker 3: and I do think you're in double digits. Again, remember
- 30:42Speaker 3: last year you had eleven players drafted. Kevin Banks no brainer,
- 30:48Speaker 3: gonna be top ten, Cam Williams leaving, He's gonna be
- 30:51Speaker 3: drafted in the first forty kicks, maybe a first round
- 30:58Speaker 3: or maybe not today Bear and I think should be
- 31:00Speaker 3: a first rounder. But I think he's got to be
- 31:05Speaker 3: in your top three cornerbacks. Usually there are at least
- 31:07Speaker 3: three cornerbacks drafted in the first round. Just because you
- 31:10Speaker 3: win a thorpe does not mean you're gonna be drafted
- 31:12Speaker 3: in the first round. They're plenty of Award winners drafted outside
- 31:14Speaker 3: the first round. But man depends on how he tests
- 31:18Speaker 3: and how he runs if he's a first round or not.
- 31:21Speaker 3: But those guys are gonna be drafted in your top
- 31:24Speaker 3: you know, forty five picks or so in the NFL draft.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Matthew Golden. Now, this is the thing on Matthew Golden.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Listening to this, Daniel Jeremiah tweet told you, guys, I
- 31:34Speaker 3: was good. This is I love Matthew Golden.
- 31:37Speaker 2: I think he's great.
- 31:38Speaker 3: I did not expect to hear this from Darryl Jeremiah.
- 31:40Speaker 3: He said this is He tweeted this three hours ago,
- 31:43Speaker 3: and he's a draft analyst for NFL network. He said,
- 31:48Speaker 3: just finished studying Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden. He could
- 31:51Speaker 3: easily be the top wide receiver in this draft class. YEP,
- 31:58Speaker 3: that's what I said too. That is if that is
- 32:01Speaker 3: the case, that is mind blowing. It really is. There's
- 32:07Speaker 3: nobody then in college football that increase their draft stock
- 32:10Speaker 3: more than Matthew Golden. There are no draft projections, mock drafts.
- 32:16Speaker 3: I'm a mock slut. I look at anybody's mock draft.
- 32:19Speaker 3: There's no mid draft anywhere, and no projection prior to
- 32:22Speaker 3: the season. During the season, even within the last six
- 32:27Speaker 3: weeks that had Matthew gold And as the top receiver
- 32:32Speaker 3: in the draft lacks. Most people had him as a
- 32:34Speaker 3: mid round pick, maybe at wide receiver and wide receiver
- 32:37Speaker 3: by the way, I've always said, it's a deepest position
- 32:38Speaker 3: in football, guys, deepest position in football at any level.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Go look at a high school football game in Texas.
- 32:45Speaker 3: They all got good wide receivers.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Like Man's.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Actually, receivers look pretty good. Everybody's got good wide receivers.
- 32:51Speaker 3: It's a proliferation of the spread offense. Everybody's got good
- 32:53Speaker 3: wide receivers. Why the sexst get a good wide receiver
- 32:55Speaker 3: and transfer pool every year because there are tons of them.
- 32:58Speaker 2: They're everywhere, all right.
- 33:00Speaker 3: They always has the deepest position in the draft every
- 33:02Speaker 3: year in the draft, Lise. They gonna say it again,
- 33:04Speaker 3: It's just that's that's the nature of the beast right now,
- 33:07Speaker 3: wide receiver and Man, I haven't looked at this crop
- 33:12Speaker 3: of ode receivers this year, but I can tell you
- 33:15Speaker 3: right now that if Matthew Golden is anywhere close to
- 33:18Speaker 3: being the top receiver in his draft last nobody's increased
- 33:21Speaker 3: their draft stock more nobody. That is phenomenal. He does
- 33:25Speaker 3: have great body control. He's a better deep threat than
- 33:28Speaker 3: I thought. He runs precision routes. He's better in contested
- 33:31Speaker 3: catches than I thought. Trustworthy hands, he's got a little
- 33:38Speaker 3: bit more speed in terms of his separation, able to
- 33:41Speaker 3: stack defenders. Uh it really, he just keeps surprising me.
- 33:44Speaker 3: He kept surprising me. I kept thinking, ah, he may
- 33:47Speaker 3: he maybe have hit his ceiling. And every time I
- 33:49Speaker 3: thought he hit his ceiling as a player, he would
- 33:52Speaker 3: smash right through it. I'd be like, yeah, but I
- 33:54Speaker 3: don't know if he's a deep threat boom, he'd be
- 33:56Speaker 3: deep threat it.
- 33:56Speaker 2: So, yeah, I don't know if he can make contested
- 33:58Speaker 2: catches his size. He may contest thet.
- 33:59Speaker 3: It's like, oh, I don't know if he can go
- 34:00Speaker 3: up and uh, you know, make catches where he's gotta
- 34:05Speaker 3: you know, show off his vertical leap and he's gotta
- 34:09Speaker 3: go up over top of the fenders. And late in
- 34:10Speaker 3: the season started doing that too. There there there wasn't
- 34:14Speaker 3: anything as a scout that you would cover it from
- 34:17Speaker 3: a robbery receiver that he's not display in throughout the season.
- 34:22Speaker 3: It so it was a master class I know why
- 34:24Speaker 3: he's leaving. He's not gonna do better than that. They
- 34:27Speaker 3: used him inside, they used him outside. He's in the
- 34:29Speaker 3: red zone, deep threat on third down, you know, precision routes,
- 34:35Speaker 3: contested catches, yack. Whatever you need to see, he showed you.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Uh So, if you go this, go get drafted pre
- 34:43Speaker 3: damn high, not just mid rounds. You're talking about second round.
- 34:47Speaker 3: He may be a top fifty guy. When you when
- 34:49Speaker 3: it's all sitting done, just kind of looking at it. Okay,
- 34:53Speaker 3: uh so that's another guy that's gonna be drafted.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Then you got Quinn.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Yours, of course, will be drafted. We'll talk about Quinn.
- 34:57Speaker 3: I know that's much l your conversation. Alfred Collins. Who's
- 35:02Speaker 3: gonna be a second round pick? I remember seeing several
- 35:06Speaker 3: draft scouts, at least draft analysts I should say, saying
- 35:11Speaker 3: that he's got a second round grade on a lot
- 35:13Speaker 3: of people's boards. Gunn or Hell is gonna be one
- 35:16Speaker 3: of the top tight ends. I say mid round pick
- 35:18Speaker 3: just because Titan is not a it's not a premium position.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Andrew mccooba.
- 35:23Speaker 3: I think mccoob was a guy that gets drafted fourth
- 35:25Speaker 3: anywhere from a fourth to sixth round somewhere around there.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Baron Serell. I like Baron Surrell's game.
- 35:33Speaker 3: He's not in the an elite pass rusher necessarily, but
- 35:36Speaker 3: that's that's a guy that's gonna be in on an
- 35:37Speaker 3: NFL roster for five, six, seven years.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I mean that he's the NFL.
- 35:44Speaker 3: To me, he's got an NFL body, and I think
- 35:47Speaker 3: he's got an NFL skill set.
- 35:48Speaker 2: So not sure exactly won't be drafted.
- 35:50Speaker 3: It don't open on how he tests and then how
- 35:52Speaker 3: deep The edge position is. Ed is a coveted premium
- 35:55Speaker 3: position but mostly for past rushing edges, and that's not
- 36:00Speaker 3: Philly Barns real. But he is very, very consistent. You
- 36:03Speaker 3: got Jake Majors. I don't know why center is not
- 36:06Speaker 3: our premium position. It's not, but Jake Majors. I think
- 36:09Speaker 3: he's gonna make an NFL roster. Not sure it could
- 36:11Speaker 3: be a late round pick. Vern Broughton to another guy.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I'm not sure about Hayden Connor. I'm not sure about
- 36:17Speaker 3: Kyden Connor being drafted, so been looking at it. So
- 36:19Speaker 3: that's Kevin Banks, Cam Williams today, Baron, Isaiah Bond, Matthew
- 36:23Speaker 3: Golden Quinn yours, Alfred Collins, Gunnehelm Macooba Surrell, Jake Majors
- 36:29Speaker 3: makes eleven, Vernon brodon As twelve. If those and I'm like,
- 36:33Speaker 3: I almost feel certain that those twelve will get drafted.
- 36:37Speaker 2: That's that's all I mean to say that.
- 36:40Speaker 3: It's pretty bold because having double digit players drafted is
- 36:43Speaker 3: a really big accomplishment. But I feel like Texas could
- 36:47Speaker 3: do that. Hey, eleven last year, I think you would
- 36:48Speaker 3: have twelve this year. That'll give you twenty three players
- 36:52Speaker 3: drafted in a two year span. Mac Brown never came
- 36:56Speaker 3: closer that Texas had twenty two players drafted.
- 36:58Speaker 2: I believe from twenty sixteen to twenty twenty five, three.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Man the record for most players drafted, and the two
- 37:03Speaker 3: year Spanish Georgia with twenty five. You know, if Texas
- 37:06Speaker 3: gets a couple of guys else, a couple other guys
- 37:09Speaker 3: on that list Salas Bolden, Bill Norton, the Gavin Holmes
- 37:12Speaker 3: or Hayden Connor, they could end up, you know, tray More,
- 37:16Speaker 3: if you declarers, they could end up in that conversation.
- 37:18Speaker 3: That's quite an accomplishment for Zark. I think you're gonna
- 37:22Speaker 3: get twelve players drafted. Well, I would say between ten
- 37:26Speaker 3: to twelve. I should say that not to get too
- 37:29Speaker 3: cocky for Texas, but talk about first world problems. Now,
- 37:31Speaker 3: your issue is you have so many players leaving, you
- 37:34Speaker 3: have no idea how your roster's really gonna look in
- 37:37Speaker 3: twenty twenty five, and you went from not being able
- 37:39Speaker 3: to develop players to draftable to have draftable grades. Now
- 37:44Speaker 3: you're developing a double digit draftable players potentially in the
- 37:48Speaker 3: upcoming draft. So it's good news and bad news. First
- 37:51Speaker 3: world problems for Texas. The Cowboys got, they got third
- 37:55Speaker 3: world problems. We'll come back and talk about the Cowboys
- 37:58Speaker 3: and even Sark being one of the candidates and options
- 38:01Speaker 3: for the Cowboys coaching vacancy, all that more and what
- 38:03Speaker 3: we learned from the playoff games this past weekend. Right here,
- 38:06Speaker 3: coming back on the Craig Waite Show, right here on
- 38:07Speaker 3: AM thirteen hundred. Welcome back to the Craig Way Show.
- 38:11Speaker 3: No Craig Way today. I'm like talking O horn Rod Bavers.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Sometimes I wish I was Craigway, but trust me, I
- 38:18Speaker 3: don't have the intellect, the intellect or the talent that
- 38:23Speaker 3: Craig wait does. But Craig Way will be back next week.
- 38:26Speaker 3: So will Cam Parker. Just sitting in for those guys,
- 38:29Speaker 3: and I appreciate them giving me the opportunity to sit
- 38:31Speaker 3: in here and guest tolls the Craig Wait Show.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Today, we'll talk about.
- 38:34Speaker 3: The NFL Playoffs and what we saw in the first
- 38:38Speaker 3: week of the NFL Playoffs, even when we saw last
- 38:40Speaker 3: night the Old Testament, old Biblical style, but whipping that
- 38:44Speaker 3: the rams Craig Waite rams, by the way, I'm sure
- 38:46Speaker 3: man Craig Wait was excited about that that they put
- 38:48Speaker 3: on the Minnesota Vikings.
- 38:50Speaker 2: And yes, the Sam Donald the Yeah, it seems.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Like that fairy tale story maybe coming to an endy.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I know a lot of people were excited about it.
- 38:59Speaker 3: And what I liked about the Sam Donald story and
- 39:02Speaker 3: the same thing I like about you know, still like
- 39:05Speaker 3: I like about Jered gob story, even Matthew Stafford's story.
- 39:07Speaker 3: You're seeing more and more quarterbacks in the NFL that
- 39:12Speaker 3: have shown that you can take the road less traveled
- 39:17Speaker 3: to still get to being a franchise quarterback or to
- 39:21Speaker 3: you know, reinventing yourself or you know, resuscitating your skill
- 39:25Speaker 3: set as a player. Now you know, Kevin O'Connor might
- 39:28Speaker 3: be considered kind of a made man because you know,
- 39:31Speaker 3: Kirk Cousins played one of his best seasons under Kevin O'Connell,
- 39:35Speaker 3: the Vikings head coach, and then you get Sam Donald
- 39:37Speaker 3: and you're able to win fourteen games with basically Sam
- 39:41Speaker 3: Donald as your story and the quarterback, and you know,
- 39:43Speaker 3: then you're gonna see what he does with JJ McCarthy.
- 39:46Speaker 3: But I mean, once you once you prove to the
- 39:48Speaker 3: NFL that you can basically you can resuscitate the skill
- 39:53Speaker 3: set of a quarterback, that you can reinvent a quarterback,
- 39:58Speaker 3: you're man and basically you become a maid man. And
- 40:02Speaker 3: that's he's getting kind of some made man status among
- 40:04Speaker 3: NFL coaches.
- 40:05Speaker 2: We'll get into it.
- 40:06Speaker 3: We'll talk about that kind of what we learned in
- 40:08Speaker 3: the Playofkay what we know about Sean Advance and Shawnavazion
- 40:10Speaker 3: hell of a coach. Shamavas a great coach. He does man,
- 40:14Speaker 3: he took advantage of and was kind of one of
- 40:17Speaker 3: the kind of the main facilitators of, you know, switching
- 40:23Speaker 3: franchise quarterbacks, right, and it got to a Super Bowl
- 40:26Speaker 3: with Jared Goff. Most franchises they get to a Super
- 40:28Speaker 3: Bowl with a quarterback, they decide, no, this is gonna
- 40:31Speaker 3: be my guy.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Not shown me.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Gunn got to the Super Bowl with a franchise quarterback, decided.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not good enough.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Ironically decided he wasn't good enough for the Rams, traded
- 40:44Speaker 3: him to the Lions. Lions thought, oh man, we'll bring
- 40:48Speaker 3: in Jared Goff. Jared GoF will be our stop gap
- 40:51Speaker 3: bridge quarterback that we figure out what we're gonna do.
- 40:53Speaker 3: And turns out, you know that one night stand that
- 40:56Speaker 3: ended up becoming the love of your life.
- 41:00Speaker 2: That's that's Jared govin nything.
- 41:02Speaker 3: He was gonna be that a happy accident, and you
- 41:05Speaker 3: know what that's You know that happens at quarterback, right
- 41:07Speaker 3: because quarterback is the toughest position to project, project and
- 41:10Speaker 3: to develop. So you get happy accidents at times because
- 41:14Speaker 3: you gotta keep rolling the dice on quarterback.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Got to and Jared Goff.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Some people thought, oh man, he's limited, but not in
- 41:21Speaker 3: the detrent Lions offense. That's why to me, it's all
- 41:23Speaker 3: about compatibility. I've always said choosing a quarterback is like
- 41:26Speaker 3: choosing a significant other. The woman or man you marry
- 41:30Speaker 3: is not always the hottest woman or man you ever dated.
- 41:33Speaker 3: They were the one that was most compatible with you,
- 41:35Speaker 3: the one that was.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Right for you.
- 41:38Speaker 3: And when you find a one that's right for you,
- 41:41Speaker 3: then all the pieces fit. Same thing about quarterback, it's
- 41:43Speaker 3: all about finding the right one. Jared Goff didn't fit.
- 41:47Speaker 3: We're finding more of those stories, right, And I've said
- 41:49Speaker 3: that for years. You guys have heard me saying it
- 41:51Speaker 3: for like a decade now, but then you're starting to
- 41:54Speaker 3: see it. Baker Mayfield it's one of those stories. Jared
- 41:57Speaker 3: GoF is one of those stories. Matt Stafford's one of
- 41:59Speaker 3: those stories. Fit right into Sean e Vay's system. Oh
- 42:02Speaker 3: clicked super Bowl right, and you know some people were
- 42:06Speaker 3: just you got the goat. That's the goat, and that's
- 42:08Speaker 3: Tom Brady. So Tom Brady he was able to, you know,
- 42:11Speaker 3: go to another team and win it and win another
- 42:14Speaker 3: franchise his first year because he's the goat. But even
- 42:16Speaker 3: with you know, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, I mean
- 42:18Speaker 3: that was just say the compatibility of that QB skill
- 42:22Speaker 3: set with the acumen and the you know, the football
- 42:28Speaker 3: intellect of Andy Reid, it's like putting together. Uh, It's
- 42:32Speaker 3: like when you know Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones got
- 42:35Speaker 3: together like it's you know what I mean, Like it's like.
- 42:38Speaker 2: One of those it's like.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Doctor Dre and Eminem you know when they got together.
- 42:43Speaker 2: It's like, Oh, that's it.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Oh that's Once you mix those two elements, you're gonna
- 42:49Speaker 3: get greatness.
- 42:51Speaker 2: And that's what you're trying to find.
- 42:52Speaker 3: That's your job as a gem You're you're you're a matchmaker,
- 42:57Speaker 3: and you're trying to find that perfect coach with the
- 42:59Speaker 3: perfect to back coach. Back back to my five year rule.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Right the five year old started the show talking about
- 43:04Speaker 3: the five year rule. And this is you know, this
- 43:07Speaker 3: is what the Cowboys, this is why I think Jerry
- 43:09Speaker 3: Jones made the move that he made. You know, you
- 43:12Speaker 3: haven't seen a head coach and a quarterback combination, all right,
- 43:17Speaker 3: just took at the head coach in the QB because
- 43:19Speaker 3: those are your two most important elements.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Argument.
- 43:21Speaker 3: But you're talking about winning a Super Bowl head coach
- 43:23Speaker 3: and quarterback. In the history of the Super Bowl Super bowler,
- 43:27Speaker 3: are we talking about? No team has ever won his
- 43:29Speaker 3: first Super Bowl by starting the same quarterback for the
- 43:32Speaker 3: same head coach for more than five seasons.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Outside of that, it's actually two five year rules.
- 43:38Speaker 3: The other five year rule is I think once you
- 43:40Speaker 3: get a head coach, period, if he can't win, if
- 43:43Speaker 3: he can't show you in his first five years that
- 43:46Speaker 3: he's a super Bowl caliber coach, does a good history
- 43:50Speaker 3: does suggest you need to move on.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Because the NFL is.
- 43:55Speaker 3: The windows that they that the NFL actually the infrastructure
- 44:00Speaker 3: with the salary cap and the Ricky Way scale and
- 44:03Speaker 3: the way the draft is set up, it's all kind
- 44:05Speaker 3: of set up for five windows.
- 44:05Speaker 2: The NFL doesn't want.
- 44:07Speaker 3: A lot of dynasties and it's not meant for dynasty,
- 44:09Speaker 3: which is why we've never seen anybody win three in
- 44:11Speaker 3: a row. We're about to see that potentially for the
- 44:13Speaker 3: first time with Kansas City.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Because the NFL is not built for that right.
- 44:17Speaker 3: It's actually built to sell hope and change if you will,
- 44:23Speaker 3: because it wants his fan bases to even the one
- 44:26Speaker 3: who are at the lower end of the NFL hierarchy,
- 44:30Speaker 3: it wants them to always have hope. That's why you'll
- 44:32Speaker 3: get your first you'll get your top draft pick, all right.
- 44:35Speaker 2: It will help you out.
- 44:37Speaker 3: And that's why the NFL essentially their their CBA, which
- 44:42Speaker 3: is essentially their tax code. They incentivize you to draft
- 44:46Speaker 3: quarterbacks bring in a new quarterback. That's why the young
- 44:50Speaker 3: quarterbacks are cheaper now. They're cheaper bringing a new one.
- 44:53Speaker 3: If you don't like your quarterback, move on, ship them
- 44:56Speaker 3: off somewhere else and go find another one. Go draft
- 44:58Speaker 3: another one, which is why we're seeing now the road
- 45:01Speaker 3: less traveled from some quarterbacks who can go elsewhere and
- 45:03Speaker 3: reinvent themselves.
- 45:04Speaker 2: And I love those stories.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Those are cool stories that you're seeing now in the
- 45:08Speaker 3: NFL playoffs at the highest levels.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Those are really cool stories. But anyway, get back to
- 45:12Speaker 2: my five year ruld.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Of the third was the thirty five coaches who have
- 45:17Speaker 3: won a Super Bowl. I believe thirty five FEN coaches.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Thirty of them did it within the first five years.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Five years, Mike lacrd they got five years, five years.
- 45:26Speaker 3: I know it sounds like you can't do it in
- 45:28Speaker 3: five years, you weren't gonna do it. That's the way
- 45:31Speaker 3: the NFL. You won't if you ain't doing in five years.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Now if you if you can do it outside of
- 45:36Speaker 3: five years, the guys that have done it outside of
- 45:38Speaker 3: five years, they're like elite all time.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Great exceptions Chuck no.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Andy Reid, Tom Landry, John Madden, and Bill Kawer. Those
- 45:53Speaker 3: are the ones. The rest of it. Five years those
- 45:57Speaker 3: their exceptions every rule. Those are your exceptions. Do you
- 46:00Speaker 3: have that? You got that?
- 46:02Speaker 2: Okay, roll with it. Now. You know who's banking that
- 46:05Speaker 2: they have that. The Bills with Sean McDermott.
- 46:11Speaker 3: And the Ravens with John Harba and Lamari Jackson, they
- 46:15Speaker 3: might be able to shatter the five year rule.
- 46:21Speaker 2: They might be able to do it. It's Josh Allen.
- 46:24Speaker 3: You got an elite quarterback, got Lamar Jackson, elite quarterback.
- 46:27Speaker 3: You got John Harball, I think is one of the
- 46:30Speaker 3: best head coaches in football already's got a Super Bowl
- 46:34Speaker 3: under his.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Resume, but he and Lamara Jackson don't have one.
- 46:40Speaker 3: And like I said, the history was just for the
- 46:42Speaker 3: five year rule that if Lamar Jackson was gonna do it,
- 46:44Speaker 3: he's already won two MVPs, he'd have done it already.
- 46:47Speaker 3: And you can make your argument, Ah, that's because Patrick Mahomes. Yeah,
- 46:51Speaker 3: every generation's got one, Tom Brady before that, Joe Mantowna
- 46:54Speaker 3: before that. You got to vanquish. You're gonna have to
- 46:58Speaker 3: vanquish that, you know what I mean? You know that
- 47:02Speaker 3: big dog on the mountain, right, if you want to
- 47:03Speaker 3: beat the man, you gotta beat the man.
- 47:05Speaker 2: That's what CJ.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Stroud's open to do, Josh Allen's hoping to do, and
- 47:08Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson take down Patrick Mahomes and it ain't gonna
- 47:13Speaker 3: be easy. I think we all know how this story ends.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Truth be told. I'm a Texans fan, I am rooting
- 47:20Speaker 2: for that.
- 47:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna break down how the Texans can upset the
- 47:23Speaker 3: Kansas City Chiefs.
- 47:24Speaker 2: I'm gonna do it, all right. I predicted.
- 47:26Speaker 3: Actually, remember when, oh Man, remember when the Texans were
- 47:31Speaker 3: up like the three touchdowns on the Kansas City Chiefs
- 47:34Speaker 3: on the road.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Bill O'Brien's gonna last stand.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Remember that I predicted that game that they would beat
- 47:40Speaker 3: the Chiefs, And I was dancing on the tabletops when
- 47:44Speaker 3: they were up by like three touchdowns.
- 47:46Speaker 2: They gonna beat them.
- 47:47Speaker 3: But that's before I learned that Patrick Mahomes is the
- 47:50Speaker 3: most clutch quarterback arguably in the history of the NFL,
- 47:53Speaker 3: and that no quarterback in the history of the NFL,
- 47:56Speaker 3: no quarterback is better, especially in the playoffs, which they
- 48:00Speaker 3: were when they're down double digits. He's got the best
- 48:04Speaker 3: winning percentage of the league down double digits, and that's
- 48:07Speaker 3: exactly it. They came back and went they actually were
- 48:10Speaker 3: leading before halftime. I'm not mistaken heartbreak they gave the
- 48:13Speaker 3: face they get to face them again. I'm gonna break
- 48:15Speaker 3: down how the Texans can beat the Chiefs.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Do I believe it?
- 48:19Speaker 6: No?
- 48:20Speaker 3: I don't believe it no, And I feel like we
- 48:23Speaker 3: know how the story is gonna end. Even though Laura
- 48:25Speaker 3: Jackson's probably having an MVP year, he might win his
- 48:28Speaker 3: third MVP.
- 48:31Speaker 2: That's crazy, that's insane, and.
- 48:36Speaker 3: His legacy is gonna be that he petitionerly just couldn't
- 48:39Speaker 3: beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Everybody in the Michael
- 48:44Speaker 3: Jordan era in the NBA had to deal with. So
- 48:48Speaker 3: I'm not it's hard to pick again Patrick.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Mahomes and the Chiefs. Hard to do that period.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Uh you're talking about We'll get into that, we'll talk about.
- 48:55Speaker 3: I think the lesson learned though, is that both the
- 48:57Speaker 3: Ravens and the Bills are gonna be trying to shatter
- 49:01Speaker 3: that five year old.
- 49:04Speaker 2: And history would suggest.
- 49:05Speaker 3: That neither one of them will do it and can't
- 49:08Speaker 3: see Chiefs are probably gonna make me right in that regard. Okay,
- 49:14Speaker 3: we'll talk about what we learned from the playoff games,
- 49:17Speaker 3: and we'll get into the win last night. Obviously, we'll
- 49:20Speaker 3: talk about the ones from over the weekend. I will
- 49:22Speaker 3: also get into the departures on the four they cored.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Talk from Texas football. Yeah, I'll give you my thoughts
- 49:27Speaker 3: about Texas losing to a house state. I'll talking about
- 49:29Speaker 3: Sark a little bit too. We'll Stark be the next
- 49:31Speaker 3: head coach of Dallas Cowboys. That is actually a conversation
- 49:34Speaker 3: that is being had and we will have it as well.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Coming back right here on the Craigway Show, right here
- 49:39Speaker 3: on AM thirteen hundred the Zone. All right, welcome back
- 49:43Speaker 3: to the Craigway Show. Craigway is out for today's actually
- 49:49Speaker 3: on the road. You know, Craigway's a man of many
- 49:52Speaker 3: talents and many obligations as well. So he's doing all right,
- 49:55Speaker 3: him and Camp Parker on the road calling some games.
- 49:58Speaker 3: But he just gade me the opportunity to step in,
- 50:01Speaker 3: and I was more than willing. So I appreciate craig
- 50:04Speaker 3: Way and Cam Barker for giving me the chance. Let's
- 50:07Speaker 3: talk about what we learned in the game last night,
- 50:09Speaker 3: and then we'll get to talking about the Cowboys coaching
- 50:12Speaker 3: vacancy and Steve Serkeshan potentially being one of the candidates,
- 50:17Speaker 3: not for that job, but not just for that job,
- 50:19Speaker 3: I should say, but for other jobs as well. Okay,
- 50:22Speaker 3: last night, Vikings lose to the Rams twenty seven to nine.
- 50:26Speaker 3: All of the most of the except for that Commanders
- 50:30Speaker 3: and Bucks game, most of the first round of the
- 50:32Speaker 3: playoffs have been pretty lopsided wins, and another one with
- 50:37Speaker 3: the Rams putting an old Testaments out butt whipping on
- 50:40Speaker 3: the Vikings. They sacked Sam Darnold nine times. It was
- 50:46Speaker 3: a record, actually tied a record. Basically, it was tied
- 50:51Speaker 3: with the Titans. Did it to the Bengals in twenty
- 50:55Speaker 3: twenty two in a divisional round. They got nine sacks.
- 50:59Speaker 2: The cheat.
- 51:01Speaker 3: I think I kind of remember this actually as trauma
- 51:03Speaker 3: as a child. The chief did it to the Oilers
- 51:05Speaker 3: at the Oilers Lovely Blue. I'm a lovely blue guy
- 51:07Speaker 3: from Hetown ninety four in division round.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Oh man, that Joe Montana. That Joe Montana and Marcus Allen.
- 51:17Speaker 2: I believe that may be it if I'm off.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Let me know, guys, I was a youngster there, But
- 51:22Speaker 3: I believe that is the occasion that's said the eighty
- 51:26Speaker 3: five Bears did it. Sorry, these forty nine ers did
- 51:29Speaker 3: it actually versus the Bears, I should say that happened
- 51:32Speaker 3: in eighty five, eighty seven Browns did versus the Jets
- 51:36Speaker 3: and division round point being doesn't happen a lot. And
- 51:39Speaker 3: Sam Donald's I believe that, you know Sam Donald's contract.
- 51:44Speaker 3: I believe his value probably dropped in that game. Taking
- 51:48Speaker 3: that mini sacks. It was the third worse if you're
- 51:51Speaker 3: gonna look at it, had the third worst total sack
- 51:53Speaker 3: EPA by any quarterback in any game played since two thousand.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Just a lack of a Way awareness overall quarterbacks.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Stat quarterback sacks are now, at least by analytical terms,
- 52:07Speaker 3: now they are uh, sometimes attributed to the quarterback long run.
- 52:11Speaker 3: Fans know this, love Quinn, but Quinn at times can
- 52:14Speaker 3: know them to be a self sacker, all right, just
- 52:17Speaker 3: kind of running instead of you know, finding space in
- 52:20Speaker 3: the pockets. Uh, they kind of run into defenders in
- 52:23Speaker 3: the pockets. Just having that lack of awareness. That was
- 52:26Speaker 3: definitely the case for Sam Darnold. So the Rams are
- 52:29Speaker 3: moving on. I'm sure correct Way is happy about that
- 52:31Speaker 3: one thing I would say about the Rams because first
- 52:32Speaker 3: of all, Matt Stafford, they got themselves a you know,
- 52:35Speaker 3: franchise quarterback, an elite quarterback.
- 52:37Speaker 2: That helps.
- 52:38Speaker 3: But they got any league coach too. That's why the
- 52:40Speaker 3: Rams are indeed dangerous. Uh, Kaseem McVay can coach man.
- 52:45Speaker 3: And one thing that makes Sean McVay unique. Nobody in
- 52:50Speaker 3: the NFL's had more coaching turnover than shun They nobody,
- 52:53Speaker 3: and I wouldn't look at historically and would have looked at,
- 52:56Speaker 3: you know, how many you know, great first of all,
- 52:59Speaker 3: not a lot of coach to stick around that long anyway,
- 53:01Speaker 3: because he's been around since twenty seventeen, and how many
- 53:05Speaker 3: coaches who won Super Bowls having as much turnover as
- 53:08Speaker 3: he had remembering those first you know a few years
- 53:11Speaker 3: when he was considered the golden child, the only one,
- 53:15Speaker 3: the only staff I found like literally historically in the
- 53:18Speaker 3: Super Bowl era that compares is to Bill Walsh staff
- 53:22Speaker 3: from seventy nine to eighty four, and how much attrition
- 53:25Speaker 3: he had on there from all those great coaches that
- 53:28Speaker 3: he was hiring. But that's what made Sean McVay unique,
- 53:31Speaker 3: that they can reinvent that reinvent that organization or at
- 53:36Speaker 3: least reinvent the football product, which he has done multiple times.
- 53:40Speaker 3: And man, as long as they got him, and you know,
- 53:45Speaker 3: and it seems like the GM, unless they have done
- 53:47Speaker 3: a great job too, they have been able to at
- 53:51Speaker 3: least compete and put out a playoff caliber product, you know,
- 53:57Speaker 3: year after year, not every year he's been there. I
- 54:00Speaker 3: think he had one year where he's falling off, but
- 54:02Speaker 3: under that Matchelle McVey always coaching his tail off. Speaking
- 54:07Speaker 3: of the Cowboys are looking to find themselves to Selman
- 54:09Speaker 3: guy all right, and Cheane Vay was considered one of
- 54:12Speaker 3: those prodigies coming up held. The Texans had a couple
- 54:16Speaker 3: of prodigies on their staff at one point, hopefully I
- 54:19Speaker 3: like Demiko Ryans.
- 54:20Speaker 2: By the way, we'll get to some Texans talk too.
- 54:22Speaker 3: But if you are the Cowboys right now, I mean
- 54:24Speaker 3: that that's ultimately Ultimately the goal to hire a a
- 54:29Speaker 3: what you would like is to be hire a young,
- 54:32Speaker 3: up and coming, fast rising star who's got super Bowl
- 54:39Speaker 3: caliber coach written all over them. You know, it doesn't
- 54:41Speaker 3: always look that way, so it's hard to determine, Hey,
- 54:44Speaker 3: is this guy gonna be it? Or is you know,
- 54:46Speaker 3: it's just a flash in.
- 54:48Speaker 2: The pan and it may look different. Dan Campbell looked
- 54:51Speaker 2: very different.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Way I thought Dan Campbell would put the Detroit Lions
- 54:54Speaker 3: in a position to be a super Bowl contender. Right,
- 54:56Speaker 3: people laughed and mocked. Dan Campbell were talking about eating
- 54:59Speaker 3: you know, knee right. He was talking, He really was.
- 55:03Speaker 3: He was talking about doing some crazy stuff. He was
- 55:06Speaker 3: very He's more of a motivator than anything. But it's
- 55:09Speaker 3: the it's the right kind of crazy for Detroit. So
- 55:13Speaker 3: you got to find about compatibility. So we'll see if
- 55:16Speaker 3: that's what the Cowboys are talking about. But one of
- 55:18Speaker 3: the things that called Longhorn's eyes long Horn fansis was
- 55:22Speaker 3: that Adam Schefter, who's the ultimate insider for the NFL,
- 55:25Speaker 3: when he was talking about potential candidates that the Cowboys
- 55:30Speaker 3: could be interested in. And I've heard him even mention,
- 55:34Speaker 3: you know, Sark's name when he's talking about other openings
- 55:36Speaker 3: as well. But for the Cowboys, it is a name
- 55:39Speaker 3: that has come up here, is Adam Schefter on the
- 55:43Speaker 3: Pat McAfee show, when they asked him about you know,
- 55:48Speaker 3: whether this is about jobs period, about Sark and Stark
- 55:52Speaker 3: being a name that has been mentioned for multiple job
- 55:56Speaker 3: openings because of his NFL connections and the NFL background.
- 56:00Speaker 5: But I have heard that Mark Streaman is happy nor Dame.
- 56:03Speaker 5: He did sign that deal recently. I don't know whether
- 56:06Speaker 5: that's leverage or not.
- 56:06Speaker 7: I have no idea. I don't have direct information beyond that.
- 56:11Speaker 5: Steve Sarkisian is a name that has scrolled the round
- 56:13Speaker 5: out there in NFL circles for weeks now. His season's over,
- 56:19Speaker 5: there were a team, if there were a team that
- 56:21Speaker 5: wanted to talk to him, they obviously to go do that,
- 56:23Speaker 5: and we'll see whether or not he has interest in
- 56:26Speaker 5: going back to the NFL. But that's a name that's
- 56:30Speaker 5: been out there for a little while that there will
- 56:33Speaker 5: be NFL teams that would have some interest. So we'll
- 56:36Speaker 5: see if that actually now happens.
- 56:39Speaker 3: He has been out there for a while, and he's
- 56:41Speaker 3: been talking about it for a while. He's been talking
- 56:43Speaker 3: about it for a few weeks now. He's been talking,
- 56:47Speaker 3: he's been mentioning Sark's name, and even before the Cowboys
- 56:50Speaker 3: job came open, and some people have brought U about
- 56:52Speaker 3: the Cowboys job.
- 56:52Speaker 2: I will say, when I looked at.
- 56:55Speaker 3: At the odds, the latest odds, so who's going to
- 56:58Speaker 3: be the Cowboys next head coach. Sark wasn't even like, yeah,
- 57:02Speaker 3: he's these far down the list. He's not even really,
- 57:05Speaker 3: he's really far down the list. Kellen Moore, Deon san Er,
- 57:08Speaker 3: Cliff Kingsbury, Joe Brady, Ben Johnson, Belichick, Lane Kiffin. But
- 57:15Speaker 3: for long advance, I don't think you have anything to
- 57:17Speaker 3: worry about right now. I think Sark wants to win
- 57:20Speaker 3: a national tale led Texas. I think he wants to
- 57:23Speaker 3: coach a Manning. I don't think he wants that relationship,
- 57:27Speaker 3: all right, the first family of football that's.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Important it is.
- 57:32Speaker 3: I think he believes that Arch Manning can be a
- 57:36Speaker 3: championship caliber quarterback that can help him accomplish that goal.
- 57:40Speaker 3: So I think you got at least until he's done
- 57:44Speaker 3: with Arch, and I think Arch is going to be
- 57:45Speaker 3: here two years, which is what has been reported. I
- 57:49Speaker 3: don't think he's going anywhere for two years. I don't
- 57:51Speaker 3: think he's going anywhere. I understand until he wins a
- 57:53Speaker 3: national title. I think he believes, and I do too,
- 57:56Speaker 3: considering you've been, you know, in the final fourth last
- 58:00Speaker 3: two years, and you know a couple of red zone
- 58:03Speaker 3: positions away from competing, you know, in a National championship game,
- 58:09Speaker 3: you're pretty close. And I think the belief is that
- 58:12Speaker 3: arch Manning will elevate the quarterback position, which will elevate
- 58:15Speaker 3: the team. And I think wants to check that offices.
- 58:18Speaker 3: I think he wants to be Pete Carroll. I think
- 58:20Speaker 3: he wants to win. I think he wants to be
- 58:21Speaker 3: known as a ball coach. There's a whole nother category
- 58:25Speaker 3: as a ball coach. There are all time great college coaches,
- 58:29Speaker 3: all time great NFL coaches, but the ball coaches, the
- 58:33Speaker 3: Pete Carroll's and the Jim Harper, you know, kind of
- 58:36Speaker 3: Jim Hardwalls kind of got that reputation even though he
- 58:38Speaker 3: hasn't won a Super Bowl, but been to a Super
- 58:40Speaker 3: Bowl as a coach in the NFL. Guys who just
- 58:43Speaker 3: can coach ball, doesn't matter what the level is.
- 58:45Speaker 2: I coach ball. Some of y'all need to recruit, because
- 58:48Speaker 2: that's y'all's thing.
- 58:50Speaker 3: Some of y'all need the NFL because you can't recruit
- 58:52Speaker 3: at the college level because you don't have the communication skills.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Are the people's skills to be able to do it,
- 58:59Speaker 3: you know, I mean, they put me anywhere I can
- 59:01Speaker 3: go coach ball. That that's a whole nuh like you
- 59:05Speaker 3: not not even Nick Saban couldn't say he did that.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Nick Saban can't say he did that. You know what
- 59:09Speaker 3: I mean, you're able to have an extreme a lot.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Of success at both.
- 59:13Speaker 3: I think Sark wants to be one of his coaches
- 59:15Speaker 3: who's won a national title and also couldn't one, you know,
- 59:19Speaker 3: win the Super Bowl too. That would be his goal
- 59:20Speaker 3: if he goes to the league. I do believe he
- 59:22Speaker 3: has NFL aspirations.
- 59:24Speaker 2: I do.
- 59:25Speaker 3: It's the guy that you know, at one point was
- 59:28Speaker 3: on the track as a prodigy before things got derailed,
- 59:31Speaker 3: and that was a path that was taking him to
- 59:33Speaker 3: the NFL.
- 59:34Speaker 2: I think he has had those dreams for a while.
- 59:39Speaker 3: So I'm not saying that he's gonna lead him away
- 59:43Speaker 3: from Texas. But you know, I just think he when
- 59:47Speaker 3: it presents himself at the right time, I think Sark
- 59:49Speaker 3: would be interested, but not until he wins the national
- 59:52Speaker 3: title in Texas.
- 59:53Speaker 2: So that's your good news.
- 59:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he's gonna win it here first and
- 59:56Speaker 3: then he'll then you'll have to worry about that. But
- 59:59Speaker 3: those our first world problems, as Sark says, laughing from
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: a crying from a yacht. This is a phrase, crying
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: from a yacht, which is what long Win fans are
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: doing these days. A beautiful thing. All right, well, we'll
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: talk some more Texas football. We'll talk about what we
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: learned from some of the other playoff games over the weekend.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: All of that and more coming back right here on
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: The craig Way Show on A thirteen hundred.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: All right, welcome back to The Craigway's Show.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Craig Way is out lifetime on horn Rod babysitting in
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: for Craig Waite, So I appreciate you.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: Guys joining us today. I want to get back to.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Some of the playoff games and what we learned, and
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: we're going to be addressing that throughout the rest of
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: the show, and then we'll bounce back and forth texts
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: football and get back to the Cowboys and they're head
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: head coaching vacancy. In fact, we'll talk about that here
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: just a couple of seconds. But let's talk about what
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: we learned from the Bucks and the Commander's playoff game,
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: which you know was the only one that actually came
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: down to the wire, and once again Jade and Daniels
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: was the difference the Commanders won twenty three to twenty.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: This is what some are calling and we just witnessed.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: I think what a lot of people said was the
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: greatest rookie season ever for a quarterback, which CJ.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Stroud deal with the Texans last season. Jayde and Daniels
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: has to pass that.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: First rookie and NF for history to lead his team
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: in passing and rushing yards in a playoff game. By
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: the way, he led his team in passing and rushing
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: yards during the season.
- 1:01:28Speaker 7: Two way.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: It's not easy like that is.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: How often do you think that happens where a player
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: leads in the NFL?
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: All right, lead their.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Team in passing and rushing and not only do that,
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: but then do it successfully, not just do it do
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: it for like a bad team. I can see it
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: a quarterback doing it for a bad team. You're a
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: unique elite athlete doing it for a bad team. They
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: don't have running backs, they don't have options. O line
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: is terrible. So of course you know you're leading to
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: in passing, but you end up leading to and rushing
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: through because scrambling yards and you're running for life and
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: oftentimes you don't have you know, weapons around you. But
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: he's doing it four a team that's you know, won
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: a playoff game. Now he's a rookie. That doesn't happen.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: I went back and looked at it. You've got fourteen
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: players in NFL history who led their team in rushing,
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: in passing fourteen total twenty seven times.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: So these fourteen players, some of them have done it
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: multiple times. The list of it and in the.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: Modern era, you know, it's actually now, I think increasing
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: now and more and more in the modern era with
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: the quarterback renaissance, more and more quarterbacks that are some
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: of the best athletes on the team. And now you're
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: starting to see more and more this. This is more
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: of an occurrence that you didn't see back in the day,
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: but it was you know, you go get. I think
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: Justin Fields was one of the latest.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: He did it in.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: One twenty three. This past season, jayde Daniels did it.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: So he's added the list that would make fifteen players.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: So I said, fourteen fifteen, add Jene Daniels a list
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: that makes fifteen.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: Justin Fields on the list.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Toby wrote, Charlie Trippy, al Darrow, these are names in
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: the fifties in the sixties, so you don't even obviously
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: justin Fields, you know, in Jane Daniels, but the guys
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: here I'm starting within the fifteen sixties, Robin Tote, Charlie Trippy,
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: I'm sure they have some really cool nicknames, l Ol Darrow.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: Then in nineteen sixty Lenny Moore did it, and that
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: kind of starts more of the modern era. Bobby Douglas
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: in nineteen seventy two did it. Randall Cunningham. Then you
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: know guys like Donovan McNabb, Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Josh
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: Allen did it, Laura Jackson did it, Janlin Hurts did
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: it as well, and Ryan Fitzpatrick did it, which was
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: kind of weird.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: I'm talking about like for bad teams, coding freaking.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: But yeah, so it's it doesn't happen a lot, but
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: to do it, and he's probably gonna do it multiple
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: times because he's just that talented, he's just that much
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: of a weapon.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: He's like Lamara Jackson.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson didn't do it this year because they got
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Derreck Henry. He did in twenty nineteen, twenty twenty, twenty
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: twenty one, twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three. He led
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: them in passing industry.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Freaky. Randall Conningham was also like that too.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: Young people probably don't know what you should google it
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: eighty seven, eighty nine to ninety.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Basically, he.
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Kind of had a Patrick Mahomes like skill set. Honestly,
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Man Jeff how used to always make the comparison. It
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: is very much so like he, but he was he
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: was more had a more of a long legged stride.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: He can run, but he was a freak. He used
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: to punt too. I think Man Randall Coenan was one
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: of the best athletes in the history of the league.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: So that's the list.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: But my point is Jayden Daniels is on that list
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: as a rookie. I don't even I haven't even looked
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: at the list and see how many of them did
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: it as a rookie. But to do it as a
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: rookie and win a playoff game, and this season he's
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: he's clutched too when the game is tied or they're
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: down by one score in the fourth quarter overtime, he's
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: clutched six touchdowns, two interceptions, one to seventeen pass already
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: got five comeback wins. I mean he that's I will admit,
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: and I'm looked like I said, I'm a I'm a
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: Texans fan, tolm a CJ.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: Stroud fan.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: What he's done the second rookie qubit in for his
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: street to have a three hundred total plus two hundred
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: plus total yards and two plus passing touchdowns zero interceptions
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: in his playoff debut. That's some freaky stuff. The freaking
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: is that associated with him is these zero punt, zero
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: turnover games. Jane Daniels has more games in his career
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: where his team had zero punts and zero turnovers, three
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: including that last play game. Then the combined careers of
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, and Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Are getting that crazy.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: I mean that is that's a wild stat the does
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: zero punt, zero punt, zero turnover game and he's done
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: it multiple times this year. And he's got five fourth
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: quarter comeback wins as a rookie. That is, that is
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: tied for the most comeback wins by a rookie in
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: NFL history. Oh, by the way, lit t V got
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: V I had four and the VY had four, so
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: did Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson just had that he did.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: He had the clutch gene. It wasn't necessarily the efficient
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: NFL quarterback. But one thing we know about Vy dode
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: at the clutch gene that short and something about j
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: Dan He's got the clutch gen, got the clutch gene.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: He's also really efficiently.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: Think it was top ten and if you're looking at
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: overall on the QBR UH and passer rating, I mean
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: he was as he performed like a top ten quarterback
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: as a rookie.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: That's what you learned about, uh that game is that
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: Jane Daniels.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: And then I would say he may have solidified his
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: claim for having the best rookie season in the history
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: of the NFL. And all season long, man, he's been
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: making plays like that, just spectacular, uh freaky plays like
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: that all season long. All right, Let's let's discuss really
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: quickly the Cowboys head coaching. We've been talking about it
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: all day, but the head coaching vacancy for the Cowboys,
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: because right now there are reports that Dion seems to
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: be the front runner for the job.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: If Dian I will say.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: This about it, because Dion would understand Jerry's culture and
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: the way Jerry works.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: That's possible Jerry right now.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: Jerry, I'm sure you know, would be willing to listen
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: to a few select people in his circle.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: I think Dion could be one of those people that
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Jerry would listen to.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: What you meaning, if you know you can influence Jerry's decisions,
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: I think Dion could do it. If indeed we're talking
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: about Dion as the guy, it's it's it's to me.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: I haven't seen Dion as a coach without Shudure, so
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: that would be something. But I will say this about
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: Dion and Jerry, if they if it's gonna be must.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: Watch television, there's no doubt about it.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: It'd be probably the greatest show in the NFL that's
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: had in a really long time.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: And they have a lot of.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: These when the quarterbacks change, our head coaching changes, but
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: having Dion Sanders as your coach, it would definitely make
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: you prime time. I was already the number one TV
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: start on a number one TV show. Talk about up
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: in the Ante. All right, we'll come back.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: We'll discuss that. We'll also get back to some of
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: the other playoff games, what we learned.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: We'll talk about some of the Texas or football departures,
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: guys who are leaving the Gold, the NFL, all that
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: more right here on the Craigweight Show on A thirteen
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: hundred the Zone. All right, welcome back to the Craigway
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: Show on Lifetime. A long one ride, baby, sitting in
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: for the one and only Craig Way. So I appreciate
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: Craig giving me the time. Just talking about some of
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: the playoff games, and we're talking about some Texas football
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: as well. As a matter of fact, I want to
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: talk a little bit about that the goal line stand
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: for House State. Jim Knowles was asked to describe the
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: goal line stand. I think we want to play that
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: audio for you coming up, So we'll get into that
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: talk to Texas football, talk about all the departures, the
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: guys who have exhausted Eljibili and those who have declared
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: early for the upcoming NFL draft. Will dive into it.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: But getting back to the NFL playoffs just a little bit.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: One of the things I just noticed because I was
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: just talking about Jane Daniels and how great Jane Daniels
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: has been in the three games he's had with zero
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: punts and zero turnovers, and how freaky that is, and
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: he's he led his team in rushing and also in passing,
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: which I explained to you how rare that is. Fifteen
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: players have done the imbibition those fifteen players, so you
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: got your they see your final eight teams, and four
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: of them will have quarterbacks that are on this list
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: of fifteen players in NFL history who have led their
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: team in passing and rushing in the same season, Josh Allen,
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Jade Daniels, which tells you
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: a little bit about the trend and right and where
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: things are going in terms of the quarterback position. Right,
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: only fifteen players in the history of the league have
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: led their team in passing and rushing. Four of those
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: fifteen players will be playing or still playing in the playoffs.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: Right, That's right.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: And the crazy part about it is tell you this
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: all the time. And when we started breaking down the
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: Texans and the Chiefs, we'll.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Get into it more.
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes is a dual threat quarterback masquerading as a
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: pocket passer. We watched him in Big twelve play here
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: at Texas. I've watched him and I remember him as
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: a dual thread quarterback and running a lot at Texas
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: Tech as a player, and when he got to the NFL,
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: he became such a you know, dynamic passer that you know,
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: people kind of forgot about his legs, his ability to run.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: But the truth is he can run, but only does
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: it in games that matter. Like he he is, like,
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: he only chooses to use his legs when the games
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: matter most, and it's.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: Usually in the playoffs.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: So I would say in the playoffs, Patrick Mahomes becomes
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: more of a dual threat quarterback, even then down from
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: stretches late in the season because they had so many
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: walkoff wins. We had like six or seven walk off
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: wins this year, so he needed to use his legs.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: But it's only when he's gotta have it and gotta
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: have his situations. Yeah, at past moons, he's right up there,
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: like he's he's right up there with If you look
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: at Moe's playoff rush years by a quarterback, Patrick Mahomes
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: is like up there.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: At least recently, I think he's up there with La Layd.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: Jackson's got six hundred and two, Josh Allen six hundred
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: and nine, Russell Wilson five thirty three, Steve Young, five
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: ninety four. Patrick ma Holmes five twenty four. I'm telling
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: you that's when his legs come to life.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Got to watch it.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: But anyway, he's not on that. This one point is
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: he's still among that group. In my opinion, the game
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: is changing. These playoffs are a prime example of it.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: All right, let's talk about the Dallas. Let's talk about Oh,
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: you know what. First of all, it's gettingto one more
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: matchup at least, you know, one of the victors and
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: the one of the losers of the playoff matchups. This
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: from this past weekend. Mike Tomlin and the Steelers, and
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: we know that. I think Mike, I know, Mike Thomlins
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: a damn good coach. I think Mike Thomains gonna end
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: up being a Hall of Fame coach when it's all
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: said and done. But there are some people that that
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: the Steelers need to move on from Mike Tomblin. And
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: you know, maybe they do need to move on from
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: Mike Tomblin. I think the big issue with Mike Tomlin,
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: and I've said it before, because the Ravens that the
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: Ravens right now, the way they're built and constructed, that
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Steelers team, they just can't score enough points to even
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: contend with the Ravens. They usually match up pretty well
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: with them within the division, but they can't contend with
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: him when it comes to scoring anywhere in the high
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: twenties or in the thirties, right, Mike Tomlin, the teams
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: are built to score around twenty four points. That's really
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: where the kind of the line is drawn. Anytime after that,
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: it's a shootout. And unless they have the quarterback in
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: the firepower, then Mike thomlins teams lately, they're usually you know,
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: gonna be outmatched. And that's what's been happening in the
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: playoffs for Mike Tomlin's teams. So he hadn't been able
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: to win the playoff game. He hasn't been able to
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: win a playoff game in my opinion, mostly because he
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: hasn't had, you know, a quarterback playing any lee level
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: or in league quarterback.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: The people forget when.
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: You start looking at these all time great coaches been
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: I've been tracking you know, all time great coaches and
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: their you know, kind of path to greatness if you will,
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: how many of them were able to win without a
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: Hall of Fame quarterback or a quarterback that became a
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: Hall of Fame quarterback at one point, it's just really tough. Now,
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: maybe you can win a playoff game or two, but
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: it's you ain't gonna win it all. It's just their
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: exception to the rule. But most of the time, if
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: you're looking at a coach that's a great coach, they're
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: associated with a quarterback that's also become a Hall of Famer.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: I tracked like eight coaches they were able to win
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: a Super Bowl without a quarterback that is now considered
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: a Hall of Famer or will be considered one.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: Bill Parcells.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: That's why Bill Parcels is considered a made like made
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: men among mad men, right because winning with Phil Seals
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: and Jeff Hosteler, there may no there may no Hall
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: of Fame quarterbacks. Joe Gibbs always you know, champion Joe
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Gibbs as one of the all time greats. Wanted with
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: Joe Thaisman, Doug Williams and Mark Ripping Warriors quarterbacks. Those guys, Uh,
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: Tom Floris should get more more recognition. Dan Pasterini and
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: Jim Plunkett Warriors quarterbacks. And he wanted good quarterbacks, not
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: Hall of famers. You know, hell, John Gruden, that's why
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: John Gruden still get a lot of gets a lot
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: of love Brad Johnson. Now, he had an all time
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: great defense, and that's that's usually the formula. And you
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: got an all time great quarterback or you got an
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: all time great defense. You know, Russell Wilson is Russell
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: Wilson's gonna be a Hall of Famer.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: I think he was on his pathway to being one,
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: and then things got derailed for him. You know, it's
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: it's usually one nor the other, but it's hard to
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: do it without one. Now people are saying Matthew Saffords
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: a Hall of Famer, you know, after winning a Super Bowl.
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: So for for Mike Thomas, I think Mike Thumb is
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: a damn good coach. I think make tumbam will get
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: you to the playoffs. But if you want to look
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: at the Cowboys, if you want to get further into playoffs,
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: if you want to get further in like the divisional round,
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: you're gonna need your quarterback to put the cape on.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: At one point, yes, you're coaching can give you a
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: schematic advantage, but ultimately, at the highest level, you need
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: a quarterback that can put the Cape on and go
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: out there and make extraordinary plays in critical moments. And
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: that's what Dak hasn't really been able to do, which
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: we'll talk about on the other side. So Cowboys fans
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: a little bit frustrated with that.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: That's what CJ.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: Stroud's gonna have to do if he's gonna beat Patrick
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Mahomes and take down the Juggernaut on a dynastic run
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: trying to win three in a row. That is the
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: Kansas City Chiefs. That's what he comes down to. We
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: saw Tom Brady do it. I went to the Super
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: Bowl last year and watched Patrick Mahomes do it in
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: person against the forty nine ers, and yeah, I didn't
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: the cape wasn't literal, but.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Man, you can see it. All right, we come back.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: We'll talk about the goal line standard for the Ohio
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: State Buck guys, Jim knows, he gives his description on it.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: Will lost or get back to the Cowboys vacancy. Dion
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: Sanders the front runner for that Cowboys job. That is
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: a blockbuster of a headline. We'll get to that and
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: more right here on the Greig Way Show. Rod Baber's
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: coming back right here on the zone, all right, Welcome
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: back to the Craigway Show here on AM thirteen hundred
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: The Zone. We'll get to some audio from Adam Schefter
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: talking about the Dallas Cowboys head coaching vacancy.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: We'll also get some audio that we have.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Of Jim Knowles, the defensive coordator from a house state,
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: describing what he for, at least from his vantage point,
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: what he called versus Texas on that first and goal,
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: second and goal, third and goal in need the obviously
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: pivotal fourth and goal where they end up getting these
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: strips sacked for a touchdown. So we'll get his thoughts
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: on it, and we'll discuss a little bit. We'll also
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: discuss the players who are departing Texas Football heading to
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: the NFL. We'll get into that list and talk about
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: how the twenty twenty five RUSS was gonna look at
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: a bit for the long Horns. And also we'll discuss
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: some of the other playoff games from this past weekend
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: and then look ahead to the playoff matchups. And then
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: we got coming up, including the Houston Texans. So let's
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: not waste any time, let's stop writing to it. Jim
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: Knowles recently spoke to the media and one of the
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: questions they asked them. I've been looking for this because
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: I was like, Man, I wonder when you're gonna hear
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: Ohio State side of that of what happened and on
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: the goal line and what they called. And sorry Longland
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: fans to bring it up again. I know some of
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: y'all in y'all stages of grief, y'all are passed this already.
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: Yall right, think exceptance fades and I apologize, but I
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: wanted to hit this because I just saw it and
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: I think it just came out today. Jim knows the
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: defensive coordinator Overhall State. Here's him describing what he called
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: on the first in goal sequence for Texas. Sorry for
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: Ohio State versus Texas in that matchup.
- 1:18:51Speaker 7: Big topic from the last game was the goal line stand.
- 1:18:55Speaker 7: Can you go through each of the four plays just
- 1:18:57Speaker 7: really quickly, I know, for his historical sake, just.
- 1:19:04Speaker 8: First play we got into big people, boom stopped them.
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: Fair.
- 1:19:10Speaker 8: Second play, we were still in big people, and which
- 1:19:14Speaker 8: leaves your vulnerable to some cracked tosses and things. And
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: our guys practiced it and they read it and Caleb
- 1:19:21Speaker 8: Downs pulled his trigger exceptionally and everybody rallied. Third play,
- 1:19:28Speaker 8: we were in a red zone coverage that we haven't
- 1:19:35Speaker 8: used before, so I think we had a good thing
- 1:19:39Speaker 8: there and Jack actually got pressure on that play and
- 1:19:44Speaker 8: we had we had all the routes covered.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: And then uh.
- 1:19:53Speaker 8: I decided to stay in the same call in the
- 1:19:54Speaker 8: next play and it worked. Just wow, you know, yeah, yeah,
- 1:20:07Speaker 8: that's what you that's how you coached. Yeah, just playing
- 1:20:09Speaker 8: on a bad ankle and just dominated the block and
- 1:20:13Speaker 8: got off the block and made the play white.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: We talked a lot all right there you go.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: That actually was very insightful because he's basically telling you
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: that he was in heavy personnel. They were on the
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: goal line, so he's in goal line defense, got big
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: guys out there, and that would support Sarks at least,
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: you know, the play call and probably sucks sarks thought
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: process that I'm gonna go wide, I'm gonna pitch it,
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: and he just he said it in the clip we
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: just played that. You know, obviously that leaves them vulnerable
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: to pitches and tosses because they were going big personnel
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: and that's probably why Sar decides a pitch.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: And toss it.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: It didn't work, It was it wouldn't have been considered
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: such a bad call if anybody had executed it any
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: of the players, asked you, but all the basically all
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: the players from Texas offensively, they got beat because Ohio
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: State was so well prepared and they they triggered quickly,
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: and on top of the play call being a play call,
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: you're trying to surprise them. It didn't surprise them. And
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: then you know, players just lost their one on one
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: battles that that that does happen usually don't happen all
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: at one time. But then he I love that He
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: pointed out also that he called a red zone call,
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: a red zone coverage on third down and fourth down,
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: and they hadn't called all year, so we hadn't run it.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: Quinn hadn't seen it. Quinn hadn't seen it at all,
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: and then he decided.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: To run it again on fourth down after after being
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: successful on third down, Sawyer got pressure on that third down,
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: and Dan Sawyer actually got the strip fumble strip sack
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: on on fourth down.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: So and I believe on on that pressure on third
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: that he was actually mashed up on.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: I think he gets mashed up on the interior and
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: then he ended up like on either Hayden Connor getting
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: that pressure uh somehow. But either way, there's your insight
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: that that's probably why I started called the toss. They
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: were vulnerable there because they were going big, uh, but
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: they were well prepared for Sark. And the reason that
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: Quinn looked so slow to process on third and fourth
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: down is because he had not seen that coverage on film.
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: Got a break tendency to win the big games. Always said, Uh,
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: you gotta break tendency if you wanna win big games.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: And I don't think Texas broke tendency enough. You guys know,
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: I don't think I think Texas could have broke tendency
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: a little bit more in that game and might have
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: made a bigger difference. It's I'm not a lot of
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: folks that are really critical love you know of Sark,
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: and I think you know Sark's done a done a
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: good job. I think there are some things that Sharks
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: he's still evolving and growing.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: There are some things that he's still growing with as
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: a coach.
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: I still think that's a part of his development overall
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: as a coach that we're seeing. I think his red
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: zone play calling, that's still something he's starting to figure
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: he's figuring out post Bjon and Rojo.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: We haven't seen Texas red zone offense look very good.
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: Let's be honest.
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: It was really it was really good been Bjon and
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: Rojo's time here in Texas, and once you lost Bjon
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: and Rojo, you'll really had a precipitous decline in red
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: zone productivity and efficiency.
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: So got to work on that. You've been you've lost
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: five games the last two.
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: Years, and three of those you've been denied on a
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: goal line stand. And in three of the five you've
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: had either a goal line you've been denied on the
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: goal line stand, or you had you were failed to
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: score in the red zone and it cost you failed
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: to score points in the red zone. That was Washington, Oklahoma,
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: and now obviously Ohio State. So that's a that's a
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: that's a theme all your losses this year? Where was
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: your running game? Didn't have one? Did never running game
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: versus Ohiose State, did never running game versus Georgia both times,
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: did never running versus Arizona State, but wanted on fourth
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: and thirteen thanks to the testicular fortitude and hell of
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: a throw by courtin yours hell of a call by
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: Sark being clutch, and that's great, but that's the only
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: reason you wanted.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: So there's another theme there.
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: Right, you gotta be able to boost, you gotta be
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: able to pivot in your running game, and be able
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: to have different, you know, contingency plans. When someone stops
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: your why out your wide zone and you're outside zone,
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: which is what Georgia did and what Arizona say did
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: and with the house they did, and once they do that,
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: Texas really has no answer.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: Got to figure that out.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: So that's still for I think that those are things
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: for Sark that have existed just beyond this season. Right,
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: You've had red zone issues for multiple years. Your goal
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: line issues have existed, also, goal line issues with more pierces.
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: There's a reason Sark decides to go with a D
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: and around and a reverse versus Georgia and Arizona State
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: on a third and short and the fourth and fourth
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: and one as the fourth and two. I believe it
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: was in a third and two versus Arizona State, and
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: we all applaud his brilliant play design and go Sark,
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: that's amazing, But truly it's distracting us from the issue,
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: which is Why can't you just line up with these
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: big humans and running down somebody's damn throat when you
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: need two yards or need a yard? Why can't you
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: run the ball with everybody knows you got to get
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: a yard? White can't we just line up and get
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: a yard, whether it be by putting a quarterback under
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: center for a quarterback snake, or to be running it
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: downhill down their throat with an old school fullback, whatever
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: it may be, or just using the big humans that
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: Texas champions and brags about. That's the real issue, which
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: was ultimately exposed, right, And I remember saying it when
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: they did it versus Georgia. I was like man an
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: end and a round on the fourth and too, it's
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: a it's definitely surprising, and you want to catch, you
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: want to use deception and catch your opponent off guard.
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: But it's risky versus a really good defense like Georgia.
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: And is it just because he doesn't believe they can
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: line up and run it and get two yards versus
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: a good defense and a stout defensive front. Probably so
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: now looking back, probably so that's probably a reason for
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: the toss too. And you know what, maybe he's right.
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: He knows the team better than we do. But I
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: think there's growth from Sark. I think more of my
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: big complaints about Sark is I want to see him
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: become an extremist when when when they when a concept works,
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: you know, I always I always say, doesn't like leftovers,
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: and he doesn't play the hits enough in his offense.
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: When something works, let's see it, let's see it again
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: later that game, Let's see it again the next week.
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: But you don't start like saves them. And he uh,
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: he wants moderation in his game plan. He wants to
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: be balancing his game plans. But what I liked about
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: the game versus Oyle State, Hey, the will rock worked
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: in the red zone.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Run it again.
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: If they don't know how to cover it, run it again.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: I'd run it again today, learn how to stop it
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: and keep throwing it to learn how to stop it.
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: And he actually did that right, And he was stubborn
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: about a concept. We don't see that enough from I
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: remember in that Washington game last year, n the pony
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: package on the second drive, you went right down the
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: field scorch your first touch down on the pony package,
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: and you only saw a two plays for the rest
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: of the game.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: You have a ten year olds per play on it.
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: I'm like, why don't we run it more? Right there?
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: And that happens with Sark there the tight end leak play.
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: You ran it to beat Arizona State. That was the
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: last player to tight touchdown to Gunnerham You again versus House.
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: They need work the very next game.
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and yet we only see it like four times
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: a season, Like we should see that, honest. I break
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: it out like once again. And I know it'd be
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: easier to Ben because you'd see it more. But my
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: point is, become an extremist about certain concepts, and I
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: think it will give you an advantage because they work.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: But that's kind of one of my complaints about the
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: Texas office a little bit. So they're still growth for
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: Sark in that regard. All Right, we come back, we'll
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: get into the Cowboys and their head coaching vacancy. We'll
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: discuss really the front runner right now, Deon Sanders, how
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: substantive is that report? We'll hear from Adam Schefter and
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: talk about Rother Sark is a realistic possibility. All that
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: more right here on the Craig Way Show, right here
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: on AM thirteen hundred zone.
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: All right, welcome back to the Craigway Show.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: I am not Craigway. Sometimes I wish I was Craigway,
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: but I don't have the recall. I don't have the memory,
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: the knowledge, the talent. Just it's not not not the way.
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: But Craig Wade did allow me to uh guest holst
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: the show, So I appreciate Craig Waite for letting me
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: sit in today. He and Cam Parker will be back
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: next week, but they'll let me sit in and guest
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: holst the show. So I appreciate that. And time is
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: flun to having a lot of fun on the show.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: Let's get to the Cowboys and they're head coaching vacancy
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: because you know, you know one of the things that
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: I think has kind of now become the most salacious.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: Then I think I grabbing and I catching. I should say.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: Headline seems to be Deion Sanders that he's gonna be
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: at least a front runner right now for that Dallas
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: Cowboys job opening. It has been reported that he and
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: Jerry Jones have spoken I'm a big d On Sanders fan.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: I love me some Deon.
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: I did predict that Dion I was like when Dean
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: at the college double He's gonna have success.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: And it's even before Colorado hired them.
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: Most man, whoever hires him, it's a win win because
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: he is such a you know, generational right as, such
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: a generational personality to be coaching in college that no
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: matter even he failed miserably as a coach, which he
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: has not shown that he can coach coach football, but
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: he failed miserably, you would fail forward, you would fail
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: up because he would stockpile your roster with great talent
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: because he can recruit.
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: If I was a seventeen year old hell, I had
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: Colorado in Texas among my final five schools when I
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: was being recruited back in nineteen ninety nine. So if
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: Dian was at Colorado now and Sark was doing what
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: he's at Texas, I can tell you right now, they
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: would be still among my top five schools. Might be
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: my final three to be Texas in Colorado, and I
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: might end up at one and transferring to the other one.
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: Who knows if everything doesn't work out. But Den is
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: coolest currency in recruiting, and there's no cooler coach in
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: DN nobody's ever been a Hall of Fame or Profittball
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: Hall of Famer and come back to coach college.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: They don't do that. Now it's starting to become more
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: and more compleiss.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: But Dean was the first and definitely has done it
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: on a bigger stage than anybody.
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: That's very different than going to the NFL.
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: Will you lose all of that cachet because you don't
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: you're not recruiting. Everybody knows you're a profitball Hall of Famer.
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: But that happens all the time in the NFL. Profitaball
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: Hall of Famous coach all the time in the league.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: Coach they succeed, they fail. Doesn't make you special. You're
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: special in college with being you know, having that, you know,
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: having that banner, being able being in that very exclusive club.
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: So here is Adam Schefter, because Adam Schefter the ultimate insider.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: He was asked about Dion Sanders.
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: He was recently asked about, you know, whether Deion Sanders
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: would consider uh the job as the Cowboys head coach.
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: Here is Adam Schefter, recently on ESPN and discussing the
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: Cowboys that can't coaching vacancy.
- 1:32:03Speaker 6: As related, I spoke to Dion last night in the
- 1:32:08Speaker 6: second half of the game, and he said to me
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: that he was not intending to go to the NFL,
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: not that he will go to the NFL, that's not
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: what he was thinking, but that the love and respect
- 1:32:23Speaker 6: he has for Jerry Jones is so great that if
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: Jerry Jones calls him, he's always going to listen.
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: And that's what happened.
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: Dion also has.
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: Been talking to Colorado and.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: Said that made it very clear.
- 1:32:42Speaker 6: He loves it there, loves it there, and he loves
- 1:32:44Speaker 6: Jerry Jones. And honestly, that's a great spot to be.
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: And if you're Deon Sanders, because you're going to have
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: two winning hands here, that's a question of which one
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: you want to play if you can even play both
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: of them.
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: Now, I don't know that it will get that blow
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: with Dallas, it certainly can.
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: I think back to a conversation that I had about
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: I don't know sixteen seventeen, eighteen months ago, where I
- 1:33:09Speaker 6: was talking to an NFL general manager. He said, I
- 1:33:11Speaker 6: got a prediction for you market down right now. The
- 1:33:14Speaker 6: next head coach in the Dallas Cowboys is going to
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: be Dion Sanders. And I was like, really okay, and
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: I always remember that, and lo and behold, Jerry checked
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: in with Dion yesterday and.
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: They'll continue talking. But I said to Dion last night,
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: so what's next?
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: And he said, I don't know, And I said, you
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: don't know, I don't know.
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: So I think everything's really up in the air.
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: The reason that you know, I think Dion, if indeed
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: he is interested in coaching the NFL, we don't know.
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: Maybe he just wants to be a college coach.
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: But if he does want to coach the NFL, and
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: you ain't gonna get a better opportunity to market yourself
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: as a coach. And Dion Sanders is the ultimate marketing
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: mind right in terms of marketing his brand and with
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: the Dallas Cowboys, the number one TV star and the
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: number one TV show in America.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: But you can always go back to college.
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: That's been proven in college boy, except to with open arms,
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: your failure at the NFL level doesn't matter in college,
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: ass matter, rule ass Nick Saban doesn't matter. You can
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: always go to the NFL fail miserably, come back to college.
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: College moll gladly except you, because they know it's kind
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: of two different sports, especially in terms of the talent acquisition.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: So that's another thing for Dion if he's worried about
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: it overall hurting his value as a college coach.
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: I don't necessarily think it would.
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: I think teams would still in college if he doesn't
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: succeed at the NFL level, give him a chance at
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: the college level.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Something that isn't coming up at all, though.
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: It's interesting, is Dak Prescott like he is going to
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: be such an important piece to whatever formula, whoever whatever,
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: to whatever coach is formula all right, that you're gonna
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: bring in, and yet there's been no real talk about,
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: you know, Dak's development and a coach that can take
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: Dak to the next level. And one of the things
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: that intrigued I think, or at least that should have
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: intrigued Cowboys fans, was the fact that Dak had one
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: of his best years under Mike McCarthy and that Texas
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: Coast offense, whatever it was. You need a coach that
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: can bring out the most and Dak. You need big
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: Dak energy, and you did get that with Mike McCarthy.
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: Kellen Moore is also another name that's been mentioned. Kellen
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: Moore and Dak worked together for a long time. I
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: don't know if you got the best of Dak, though
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: you got a better You got Dak to hit closer
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: to his ceiling with Mike McCarthy a couple of years ago.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: Obviously now he's older, you know, overpaid if you want
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: to say that, but also dealing with injuries. So I
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: get that, but that should be one of your number
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: one objectives. Like I need somebody who's gonna come in
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: and like I said, bring make sure I can get
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: the big Dak energy because otherwise the cod Boys got
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: no shots of ancy passed the division round and Cowboys fans,
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: I know Collwege fans feel about that. The big issue
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: with Dak and Cole West fans is Cowboys fans never
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: they never warmed up to Dak.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: There's a great Chris Rock line.
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: He's talking about marriage relationships and he's talking about how
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: why your woman's always mad?
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: Like, why is your woman always mad and angry?
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: If you're a woman's mad neggry, I'm not say she is, uh,
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: but if she is mad and angry at the time,
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: why is she in a bad mood? And his answer
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: is because you you are not her first choice and
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: that encapsulates how Cole West fans feel about that. That
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: wasn't their first choice.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: Either, It was Romo.
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: Why all those guys will always be very, very polarizing
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: is because they always wanted a prince that was promised
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: a really high draft pick at quarterback, and the Collboyds
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: don't haven't done that.
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: They don't really do that.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: They've drafted the fewest fewest quarterbacks in the NFL since
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: two thousand. They don't really operate that way. And that's
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: a lot of what the Dak blowback is about. But
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: different discussion for a different day. But the Cowboys do
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: need to be concerned about the next coach maximizing Dak
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: and bringing that big Dak energy that discussed. All right,
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: we come back. We'll get into more playoff discussion. We'll
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: talk about the Textans a little bit. We talked a
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: lot about the Cowboys. Let's talk about the Texans a
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: little bit, and we'll get into more Cowboys discussion as
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: the show goes on. All of that more right here
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: on the Zone, the Craigway Show. I'm lifetime long hun
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: Rode Raps coming back right here on the thirteen hundred.
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: I'll welcome back to the Craigway Show. I'm lifetime long
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: hun Rod Babers. Let's talk some Texans a little bit.
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: Even though we talked a lot of Cowboys. Of course,
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: I'd like to give the Texans who actually are instill
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: in the playoffs, give them a little air of time,
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: even though the Cowboys do dominate. The Cowboys always believe
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: in be good or be interesting. It helps to be both,
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: but if you can't be good, just be interesting. Cowboys
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: definitely are more interesting than the Texas. But the Texans
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: are pretty damn good. They have to show how good
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: they are. They'll be facing the Kansas City Chiefs and
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: hoping to oh Man topple a dynasty right now, hoping
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: to win three in a row and would do something
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: that no other NFL team has ever done. But let's
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: talk about the Texans a little bit. It's something that
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: you know, I'm not saying the Texans are gonna bull
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: the upset. I'm not predicting that I'm taking Kansas City
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: under staying that right now, but in looking at the
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: ways that the Texans can beat Kansas City, because I
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: do believe it's gonna be close. But the Texas, the
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: Kansasity Chiefs have played close games all year. I believe
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: they had like seven walk off WINNSDA this year. They've
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: been playing close games all year.
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: That's what they do. They're not good, but they are
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: a clutch.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: But the Texans defense has made some of the best
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: quarterbacks in the NFL look pedestrian. I'll give him that.
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: Demiico Rantas does a good job of coming up with
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: game plans. He's really modernized that that defense. That defense
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: is as modern as it gets. You got elite versatile
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: edge rushers. You're the only team with two players ranked
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: in the top ten in sacks, Anderson and Daniel Hunter,
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: and so you can get after you can just straight
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: up get after the path the opposing passer, and you
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: can create organic pressure with just those two, or you
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: can decide to blitz Sexans don't blitz a ton, but
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: they will to break tendency.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: But the Texans secondary is was really surprised.
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: We knew they were going to be able to apply
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: pressure just because of what they did in the offseason,
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: but the secondary was to look at a question, you know, concern.
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: Actually even earlier on in the season. The secondary is
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: really rounded into form and Remember what they did to
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: Jared Goff. He threw five interceptions. Remember Josh Allen. Remember
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: Josh Allen when he played the Texans, he had a
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: I believe it was a thirty. He had thirty percent
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: completion percentage. It was his career low, and it was
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: the lowest completion rate in a game for any quarterback
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: with at least thirty passes in the last thirty years.
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: I mean, I had never seen, at least in the
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: last four or five years since we have put Josh
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: Allen on this pedestal, I've not seen him play that
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: bad like he played against the Texans. Jared Goff of
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: decher Lion's the end up winning that game. I don't
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: know how you held you win the game when your
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: quarterback throws that in exceptions, but they did Jordan Love
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: through a couple of picks versus the Texans to Tua
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: quarterback through three picks in the game. But the point
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: is they've made some good quarterbacks, and of course Justin
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: Herbert recently made you know Justin Herbert through multiple interceptions
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: pick sixes in that game. So the Texans secondary actually
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: is easily the biggest surprise of the season. That group
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: is playing really really well. Uh Kayln Bullock. Nobody saw
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: that coming. You know in the secondary, you had you
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: had starters that were down in the secondary. And yet
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: you know, Derek Stanley had one.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: Of his best games.
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: I predicted before the season started he would be in
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: All pro. I don't know if he's wells to be
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: an All probe, he's definitely having held of a year.
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: Kamari Lassiter, Eric Murray.
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: I mean, your backups and even some of the younger
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: guys are playing really well for the Texans. If you
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: look at the what's his name that I saw the
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: young man Miles Bryant is his name? He had the
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: team Miles Bryant, Who's you know, nobody thought he'd be
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: a guy that's playing a lot for him, but because
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: of the injuries, he played a lot.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: He ended up on Lad McConkie.
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: He had the team and covering Lad McConkie, yet he
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: was on forty four percent of the time. Lad mcconky
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: ended up having a good game versus the Texans. But
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: you know, the Technics are not afraid to play some
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: of those young guys, and so we'll see if the
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: secondary will be tested going up against the Kansas City Chiefs,
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: of course, but that's a good.
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: Sign there also are gonna need that running game.
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: And I would say that they with the injuries at
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: wide receiver, you know, losing obviously Stefan Diggs and Tank Dale,
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: getting back Nico Collins, they've been running a lot of
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: two tight end sets and they did against the Chargers,
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: and I'm saying they played bully ball, but they were
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: able to move the football pretty easily versus the Chargers
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: with those two tight end sets and not force some
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: man coverage on the outside.
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: Once they got the run game going average almost seven yards.
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: Per play out of twelve personnel, sixty percent success rate
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: out of twelve personnel.
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: That's something to watch too.
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: And that would you know, for the Texans, who you know,
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: now you don't have your full complement of weapons at
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: wide receiver. That would force some teams to play you
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: either out of forty personnel at times or would allow
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: you to kind of isolate Nico Collins on some matchups
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: if you like them. If they don't, then you know,
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: you can win the numbers advantage inside and they do
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: have some good tight end So that's for the Texans.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: I mean, that's two of the things they showed versus
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: the Chargers that I really like, love the way the
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: secondary is playing. I think Will Anderson had two sacks
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: in that game. Daniel Hunter had five pressures in that game.
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: I think they accounted for eleven pressure just the two
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: of those guys. That was to me something that gives
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: them hope that maybe they can make things interesting versus
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: the Chiefs. And the way the secondary is playing. Derek Steeley,
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: I mean he was targeted ten times in that game
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: versus Chargers. He only allowed five receptions for thirty yards.
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: He had two picks, he had a PBu and I
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: think at thirty passion rating when he was targeted. He's
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: playing like a shut down corner. You're gonna need that
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: because you're gonna need multiple players to help you neutralize
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: Kelsey and then you need to be able to trust
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: your guys to hold up one on one on the outside,
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: and that's a tall task when Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: Starting the quarterback.
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: So we'll talk more about it and break it down,
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: but that's something that Texans when they played good quarterbacks
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: and Patrick Mahomes, they played him too, and they did
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: not fare so well versus Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: We'll see if they got a better game plan this
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: time around.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: Dimiko Ryans has done a good job previously coming up
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: with good game plans for the Texans and their secondary
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: versus elite quarterback personnel. But I'll say this about the Texans.
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: They they still in my opinion, are a head of schedule.
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: I mean you, CJ. Stroud, Last year, you won a
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: playoff game, one of the playoff games. This year, CD
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: is trying to make around. So this year isn't the
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: year that I would, if I'm a Texans fan, feel
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: disappointed that they can't topple the Chiefs.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: Next year would be the year that.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: If they if they can't get it done next year,
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: then yeah, then you start feeling some if you're a
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: Texans fan, maybe started feeling some disappointment there.
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: But they're way ahead of schedule.
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: C J. Stroud, second year quarterback, and the offensive line
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: should be better. That's something you also you got to
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: work out over the offseason. But the defense is ahead
- 1:44:48Speaker 3: of schedule in my opinion too. You got the top
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: me the top six pass defense last this past season.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: Your rush defenses above average. But I believe next year
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: you can you can end up with a top five
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: pass defense, borderline top you know, five rush defense two potentially,
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: and then your defense will probably lead the way, and
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: then CJ. Stroud won't have to have so many save
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: us CJ moments and you can play a complimentary style
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: of football with your defense leading away in a balance
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: running attack.
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: And then you now you know Nico Collins is your guy.
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: You should have more weapons on the outside to the
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: product the draft them and Tank Dale. Now multiple seasons
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: with injuries, you brought the draft some more wide receivers
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: for CJ.
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: Stroud.
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: But like I said, you'll have first world problems to
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: deal with this offseason. But it ain't starting yet. You
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: still gotta play the Chiefs, to say, Hurtley and tasks
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: to take down that monster. We'll talk about that, and
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: we'll talk about some Texas football coming up on the
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: other side, and we'll dive into what the Texas roster's
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: gonna look like for twenty twenty five and all the
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: departures on the forty acres, for the long points, all
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: that more right here on the broadcast, sorry, right here
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: on the Greigway Show on a thirteen hundreds. Welcome back
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: to the Craigway Show here on AM thirteen hundred Zonne.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: I'm not talking about when Rod davers. I appreciate Craig
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: letting me sit in for him while he is on
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: the road. Let's talk to Texas football. Lately, we have
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: seen a ton of guys who have either announced that
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: they are declaring early for the NFL Draft. For guys
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: who are basically putting out messages even though their eligibility
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: is exhausted, but now messages farewell messages if you will,
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: saying goodbye and announcing their quarantine NFL Draft even though yeah,
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: they don't really have a choice, so they're gonna be
- 1:46:41Speaker 3: eligible for the NFL Draft anyway because they've exhausted their eligibility.
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: But now it's the thing where everybody makes a statement.
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: So just talking about departures period. That includes guys who
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: are declaring early and those who are out of eligibility.
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: Just kind of going through the list here of some
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: of the ones lately. Cam Williams being the latest. He's
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: declared for the NFL Draft, so he's leaving. You also
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: have more more blackwell, he's gone because of eligibility. Gunner
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: Helm too, Isaiah Bond declared early, so Isaiah Bond he
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: has decided that he is foregoing any eligibility. Quinn Yours
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: of course, that was announced even before the Bowl game.
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: Kelvin Banks, He's probably gonna be a top ten pick,
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: and Hayden Connor that was also the case. He might
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: be out of eligibility. Jayden Blue, he declared early. Jayden
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: Blue after a fourteen touchdown season. Matthew Golden another player
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: declaring early for the NFL draft. Gavin Holmes, Andrew mccooba,
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: Vernon Broughton also among the players that's also declaring for
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: the NFL Draft. So it is a long list of
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: players that Texas will be losing, and it's growing every day.
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: There are still some of the guys who haven't necessarily
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: made the announcement.
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: Michael Taps still out there.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: Trey Moore's another guy that hasn't really been announced what
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: he's gonna do. So there's still some other guys. I
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: think that we are waiting on their declarations or announcements.
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: But for the most part, I mean Texas is expected
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: was expected to lose a lot of guys, and they're
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: expected to have double digit guys drafted. Last year was
- 1:48:19Speaker 3: eleven some say at least eleven will be drafted this year.
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: And among those guys that we just mentioned, you know,
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: Kelvin Banks, Cam Williams. So you're losing what some people
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: are saying, it's the best tackle or among the best
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: tackle duos in college football in Kelvin Bason Camp Williams.
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: Guy's respect to be Kelvin Banks's the top ten pick.
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: Cam Williams expected to be a top forty pick in
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: the NFL draft. Who knows how he tests, it could
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: end up being higher than that. Didn't have a great
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: end to the season, but he was also dealing with
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: an injury there. But yeah, now relating to the Texas
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: roster for twenty twenty five, your offensive line is probably
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: gonna be hit harder, hit hardest out of all of
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: the departures of any position because you're gonna lose your
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: two tackles. You lose your starting center Jake Majors, who
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: started more games either player in Texas football history. You
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: lose Hayden Connor on that offensive line too. I mean,
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: you're just losing a lot of talent, a lot of
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: depth on that offensive line overall. So that's the group
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: I think, even though you've been stock pilling a ton
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: of talent. You got Trevor goose Be coming back. He's
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: gonna be great. Brandon Baker is gonna be another really
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: good player for you. Still a lot of inexperienced, unimproving
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: commodities on the all line. So I think O line
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: and then wide receiver, because you're losing Matthew Golden. You're
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: losing Isaiah Bond. Isaiah Bone was no mension, but Matthew
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: Golden right now. Dariel Jeremiah. I read this tweet earlier
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: and I was a little surprised by it, But maybe
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: I shouldn't be because Matthew Golden has been spectacular in
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: the last couple of games.
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: Jerry Jeremiah' tweet five hours ago.
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: Just finished studying Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden. He could
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: easily be the top receiver in this draft class. He said,
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: easily be the top receiver in the draft class. And
- 1:50:03Speaker 3: I will say that there's nothing that there's no question
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: I needed answered that he didn't answer. Late in the season,
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: I was worried about man. I don't know if he
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: could be a true deep threat. Became a deep threat
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: for the LOUCH. I was worried about whether a guy
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: of his stature could make contested catches. Made contested catches.
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: I was worried about whether a guy his size can
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: go up and make catches and high point the football
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: and go up over a defender and do it.
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: Did that too.
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: He was a great red zone target, ran precision routes,
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: was able to take on the roll as the number
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: one wide receiver when you needed him or two, great
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: body control. I played inside, played in the slide, played outside. Yeah,
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: now the number one wide receiver in his class, that's
- 1:50:45Speaker 3: a different discussion, but that's what I trust Darren Jeremiah
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: of He's saying that he's got that type of potential
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: and that's why he's leaving. But also that's what kind
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: of a hole you're going to have in your wide
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: receiving corps. Losing Matthew Golden, losing Isaiah Bond, You've lost
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: a lot there. And we'll see they got a lot
- 1:51:01Speaker 3: of talent at wide receiver with the class that are
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: bringing in, and they've got some guys already on campus.
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: Uh you know, uh living Uh living Stone is another guy.
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: I think people really like. You'll have more dealfreymore you'll
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: have Ryan Wingo, but I think O line and O line,
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: D tackle and wide receiver. If you're looking at the
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: departures overall, I think those are the ones. Ain't know
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: what I mean tight end. I guess it's in that
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: conversation too. You don't really know your tight end is
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: gonna be gotta Mary. I don't know Murray ny Black's
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: status that kind of thing. I know you got Joined Washington,
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: who they really like as a youngster, but they're unproven.
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: So those may be the fourth positions that remember sarccess
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: behind quarterback, tight end, it's the second most position, second
- 1:51:47Speaker 3: most important position in his offense.
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: And Connor helm had won.
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: A statistically one of the greatest seasons we've ever seen
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: for a tight end at Texas. So just looking at it,
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: I guess those are the positions that concern me the
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: most looking at the departures. But you've been stockpiled in
- 1:52:03Speaker 3: Texas stockpot and talent for a long time, so there
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: the talent is there. It's just unproven and we know
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: this group can develop talent. But I thought some of
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: these guys would would would return, like the Gavin Holmes
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: was a little surprising because I thought Gavin Holmes returned,
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: had a great year, but thought he could contend to
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: be a starting corner potentially for Texas this year.
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: On the other side of Malik Muhammad thought that was
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: the case. He's leaving.
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: You know, I thought Cam Williams another guy. I thought
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: Cam Williams, and I know he's a top forty pick.
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: They leave, He's got good money out there for him.
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: But ultimately he had what fifteen penalties I believe this year.
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: If I'm not gonna say, I think he led college
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: football in penalties and he'll get developed at the NFL level.
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: I mean, they know how to do that.
- 1:52:53Speaker 3: But yeah, he definitely could have matured and developed into
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: being a top fifteen pick. But yeah, limited experience. They
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: have a lot of penalties. You know, give up those
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: two sacks in the Ohio State game. Not saying the
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: guy doesn't have first round ability, of course he does,
