- 2:32And the first time on Jabba in the mouth.
- 2:35The one, the only. Benjamin Lyons, Ben What's?
- 2:40Up I'm in trouble already Out the gate I get Benjamin when I'm
- 2:43in trouble with my mother or my lady.
- 2:45Good to once you connect with you guys.
- 2:48I put the word out to my friend group that I was coming on the
- 2:51show and my buddy wrote back. He said, oh Jabba, he's a poor
- 2:55house legend. Talk who shouts my guy Kevin
- 2:59who? Shang Gangi and he says an Excel
- 3:00guy. I remember him being a real good
- 3:03dude. So you got the stamp of approval
- 3:05from the friend network here on my phone?
- 3:07Believe it, I I there's If those walls could talk at the poor
- 3:10house, my man. Whoa, boy.
- 3:13Yeah, I mean, that's a legendary spot that's pre Coke.
- 3:15In New York, it's a little different, no doubt.
- 3:18There were a lot of people that pretended they were Jabba
- 3:20Chamberlain as we've we've had frauds over the years.
- 3:23Bro that's so funny, dude just messaged me literally 3 days ago
- 3:29and that dude is still acting like he's me.
- 3:33Swear he sent a picture of it and everything.
- 3:36That's pretty funny. He was like, you probably won't
- 3:38see this. And I was just just going
- 3:41through answering DMS and whatever and no BS.
- 3:44He was like, dude, I was out. He lives in Virginia now.
- 3:47Wow, look. At.
- 3:48You and he was out and he was like, yeah, this dude said he
- 3:50was you and he's like, no, you're not.
- 3:53And then I guess they became like friends or whatever and he
- 3:56was like, yeah, it's the dumbest thing I've ever done and it
- 3:58ruined my life. Wow, it figured I was like damn,
- 4:02all right, wow, I know. I was like so random you brought
- 4:06that up 'cause that literally just happened.
- 4:07That's crazy. It just shows everybody New York
- 4:09City and legends and baseball. Back in the 80's, the Mets had
- 4:12it going. That beat reporter Bob Clapper,
- 4:14she used to tell people who's Bobby Ojeda?
- 4:16And they're like, free drink. Yeah.
- 4:18Bobby Ojeda well, we love Bobby anyways.
- 4:22I, I, we, we got to get it to the New York Knicks and the
- 4:24Knicks saw the story right now and a lot of people were
- 4:27questioning the New York Knicks on why they didn't hire a coach
- 4:30before the draft and the Knicks went right into the draft.
- 4:33But obviously the Knicks really didn't do anything in the draft.
- 4:36They did add somebody, add somebody at 50th, if I'm not
- 4:40mistaken. The what, what was he?
- 4:42African, African, French, French player.
- 4:45We'll see how he is. It's he's probably going to
- 4:47start in the G League. He's not going to start in the
- 4:49NBA, but they say he could be a good rebound.
- 4:52He could be defender. Why do you think Leon Rose
- 4:55waited so long to hire Mike Brown?
- 4:58You know, I'm still trying to figure out why they said goodbye
- 5:01to Tibbs in the 1st place. I'm trying to, you know, settle
- 5:04into that. But you know, I think you got to
- 5:07do your due diligence. You got to take meetings and
- 5:09this is the team that is looking for grown-ups and players that
- 5:12can contribute. Now.
- 5:14The draft is not a super high priority focus.
- 5:16Let's be honest, it hasn't been for this Origin organization.
- 5:19Historically. RJ Barrett was the first first
- 5:21round draft pick. They resigned in 30 plus years
- 5:25since Charlie War. They don't, they don't pay much
- 5:27attention to the draft. Clearly they signed Jordan
- 5:29Clarkson. He's 33,000 cell, he's 29.
- 5:33So it's like the draft is what it is.
- 5:34They got 3 French guys now. You mentioned that MO, I think
- 5:37his name is Mohamed Ziara. Yes, he's, he's got 3 French
- 5:41guys now. It's interesting considering
- 5:42we've seen this sort of French invasion in the NBA with Wimpy
- 5:45Yama and Alex R and then winning the silver medal.
- 5:48So I'm with him and Mike Brown's a proven guy in the NBA.
- 5:51He's coached in the finals. Jordan Clarkson's played in the
- 5:53finals. Mike Brown's won fifty playoff
- 5:55games. You know, Tibbs, I love a coach
- 5:58and Tibbs and and obviously you can nitpick them and the certain
- 6:01things that probably rug rub people in the organization the
- 6:04wrong way or just ran its course 24 and 23 in the playoffs.
- 6:07But I don't know. Here we are man.
- 6:09And we're talking Knicks basketball and all in like July
- 6:11and it's positive. There is one matrix.
- 6:15First of all, Mr. Mr. Lyons, the Knicks have been positive since
- 6:19really Leon Rose has gone to the organization.
- 6:22They've been a slam dunk. I mean, they made it.
- 6:24They made the move for Jaylen Bronson.
- 6:26They brought him to the organization.
- 6:28I mean, obviously they had to bring his father with him, but
- 6:30that that's a whole nother story.
- 6:31I mean, they brought in Tom Thibodeau.
- 6:33They they added additional guys like Josh Hart.
- 6:36They brought in Dante Diva Gentle now Mikhail Bridges.
- 6:39They traded away their future for Mikhail Bridges.
- 6:41We'll see how that works. Karl Anthony Towns, I mean,
- 6:44everything that Leon Rose has touched so far has been
- 6:47successful. So him anybody that's taking
- 6:50shots at the Mike Brown, Mike Brownhire, I don't think you
- 6:53could take shots at it. The guy is a winning coach.
- 6:57There's only two other coaches that have better record, a
- 6:59better record than he has over the last 10 years as a head
- 7:02coach. So there's there's no question
- 7:04the guy knows how to win. The question is, is he going to
- 7:07win a championship? He's been to a finals.
- 7:10He's failed to win a championship with a good team.
- 7:13So that is the question with Mike Brown.
- 7:15Can he do it in New York? Can he do it under pressure?
- 7:18Can he do it with these rowdy fans that obviously when you
- 7:22start to lose, they start stabbing you in the back with a
- 7:24knife, a gun or whatever the hell they have and maybe a pole
- 7:28or, you know, something else I don't want to say?
- 7:30I mean, it is a magical few weeks.
- 7:32I don't know where you guys live or where you're you're based or
- 7:34how much of A you know, the spring you got to chase to be in
- 7:37the city, to be in New York, but the vibes were amazing.
- 7:40Like it was the best six weeks of my life.
- 7:42I feel like, and I don't want to experience it again because I
- 7:45was just an emotional mess. And now we're at this place
- 7:48where expectation and entitlement are starting to seep
- 7:51in and it's already starting to feel like that's the I'm like,
- 7:55I'm around your guys's age, like I've been through this, right.
- 7:57So it's amazing. You've got this Lord of the
- 8:00Flies generation that goes out on the 7th Ave.
- 8:03There he is, There's Captain Bush.
- 8:05God bless that Great American man.
- 8:07I love telling, asking my Pistons friends.
- 8:09I like saying what's the 4th best performance in the history
- 8:12of Little Caesars Arena? Because the best is game.
- 8:16The second best is game three, and I'll give you the third best
- 8:19is game four. And they'll give me a variety of
- 8:21answers all the night. Kate had 32 against the Magic in
- 8:24January or the night Giannis gave us 50 in March.
- 8:27But Brunson's really special man.
- 8:29So the time is now. It's a really special time in
- 8:31the city. So I want to enjoy it.
- 8:32I want to be present for it. I don't want to nitpick it and
- 8:35be like, why aren't they playing Kyler Kohler?
- 8:38If we go through the roster from last year, there's a lot of
- 8:40this. My dad would say Schmen Drakes
- 8:42like God bless PJ Tucker turning 40 and wearing Charles Oakley
- 8:45Player Edition shoes. They don't just take shots at
- 8:48Charles Oakley. That's my favorite, I think.
- 8:50PJ Tucker, The. Little subtle jam.
- 8:52All right. I love you.
- 8:53Yeah, I I was about to play edition.
- 8:55Listen well, come on, Delon Wright.
- 8:57Delon Wright pressures at you campaign.
- 8:59These are borderline guys in the league.
- 9:02And so the conversation of Tibbs didn't play the bench, like I
- 9:06didn't need more campaign pull ups.
- 9:08Like that's not the recipe. They just didn't have the talent
- 9:11last year. Now you add Clarkson, a six man
- 9:13of the year in a bucket. I'm with it, man I'm ready.
- 9:15I'm six. I'm very excited.
- 9:17So you seem pretty passionate about wanting to keep Thibodeau,
- 9:20like, one of the biggest, like, disclaimers that people have had
- 9:23against him that you're like, this is not as big of a problem
- 9:25as it was originally out to be. I think people really don't
- 9:30understand just how hard it is to win every single night in the
- 9:34NBA. And some of his detractors will
- 9:36say, how come on a Tuesday versus Charlotte in March, he's
- 9:40not playing with the lineup and trying different combinations
- 9:43and they go down 12 early. Don't call a timeout.
- 9:46Let him play through it. Like using the games to kind of
- 9:50like, tinker and stuff. Because in the playoffs come
- 9:53around, you're like, oh, my God, what do we do?
- 9:54Because Brunson and Cat can't defend together.
- 9:57But that's like, I don't know, that's rarefied air.
- 10:00That's Zen Master stuff like what he would do back with the
- 10:03Lakers and stuff like, I don't know, I think it's just hard to
- 10:06win 50 games. And you got to think about the
- 10:07fact that Mitchell Robinson was hurt for most of the year.
- 10:10So Cats playing out of position, Hart's really a bench guy who
- 10:14brings energy. They maxed him out.
- 10:18They maxed out Deuce McBride. They've maxed out like every guy
- 10:22on this team. So I don't know what tips get.
- 10:26I think we're at detractors. I agree with them is like
- 10:29they're up 24 with two minutes to go wise bridges on the floor.
- 10:32Like I like that kind of stuff. I was driving people nuts.
- 10:36I know. But you know, it's
- 10:38collaboration. It's a collaborative kind of
- 10:41generation of basketball minds and and and people want to feel
- 10:44a part of it. And he might have gotten a
- 10:46little too isolating and kind of me and my guys against the world
- 10:49and like not really bringing in the, the entire scope of the
- 10:52organization, but I don't know. We'll see.
- 10:54It's, it's a great run for him in that it's a dream job.
- 10:58And he he did something that I never thought I'd see in my
- 11:00lifetime. Like they're, they're really
- 11:02good. Like, they're really fun to
- 11:04watch and they're good. Ben, did you think too like
- 11:07we've we've talked about this and, and kind of across all
- 11:11sports, obviously we we see that you are passionate about tips.
- 11:15Do you think they're sometimes like there needs to be a change
- 11:18or do they just end up using the coach as the fall guy because
- 11:22they have to blame something? No, a little bit of both Java, I
- 11:26mean, I think you look at big business and that's what's
- 11:28professional sports are now. CE OS change, CE OS change, top
- 11:33executives are always changing jobs.
- 11:35People work at CAA, then they work at William Morris and they
- 11:37work at right. You kind of jump around.
- 11:39So but yes, there needs to be a scapegoat, but there was no
- 11:43problem. There was nothing to blame.
- 11:45Like what can we at least enjoyed it for like 2 weeks
- 11:48after that historic run that like took me back to my
- 11:51childhood, My English teachers texting me, I'm calling my dad
- 11:55in the middle of the day crying because I'm just like so elated.
- 11:58And we only get 48 hours to like sit in it and enjoy it.
- 12:02Like that was the kind of tough part about.
- 12:03It it's always Indiana, it's always Indiana that screws us.
- 12:07It was Indiana. That's a real I mean, you're
- 12:10solid, man. It's A and it's kind of cool how
- 12:12the two cities, let's be honest, like kind of take a different
- 12:15approach where the Knicks have big stars always and you know,
- 12:19Indiana's like this team kind of collaborative thing.
- 12:22It kind of fits the region. I don't know, I like the kind of
- 12:25small town market thing versus the the big evil city kids or
- 12:28whatever. That's Pat McAfee curses out
- 12:31Shallowmet, but let's see Shay. Let's see shallowmet, by the
- 12:34way, on a Tuesday in November against Charlotte at the Garden.
- 12:38Like can we get? Some of that I don't want to
- 12:40hear. I don't want to hear Pat McAfee
- 12:42talk about basketball. Please stay with the football.
- 12:45I don't want to hear much. I don't.
- 12:47Want to like Lee? Like, come on, you know?
- 12:49Listen, I I got a personality. You have to listen to the show.
- 12:51There's a lot of craziness. Job I got a question for you,
- 12:54man. When you, when the Yankees had
- 12:55it humming in the city, like how did you as a player feel the
- 12:58energy in the city shift? Was it like talking to the guys
- 13:02in, you know, the street construction guys, guys in the
- 13:05bar? Like, how do you the poor house
- 13:07crew, Like, how do you feel that the city's on fire as a player?
- 13:11It's there's like a for people that don't like get it or like
- 13:16everybody's like, ah, New York's too much this, that another
- 13:19thing. It's different when you actually
- 13:20live there. Visiting is, is completely
- 13:22different. And so I think you just have a,
- 13:24you have a feel for the heartbeat, right?
- 13:26And what happens is you, you feel the buzz, like there's just
- 13:31something in the air that it just it, it doesn't, it makes me
- 13:36smile thinking about it. Along with it comes a lot of
- 13:39free stuff, which is even an added bonus.
- 13:43Figures. But it I think it's just it's
- 13:47the buzz and the energy that is combated with with winning and
- 13:54and doing that. But just, yeah, you're walking
- 13:56down, you're getting honked at. Everybody's saying good luck, go
- 13:59get them. I think just the energy and the
- 14:02heartbeat of this city as it goes and when you feel it, it's
- 14:07truly is special. And you know, but as we all
- 14:10know, as much as they love you, they hate you just the same.
- 14:12You got to take the good with the bad.
- 14:13No, Oscar. Hey, I was just in Madrid and I
- 14:15saw Evan Fournier playing for Olympiacos, so I gave him the
- 14:18business. Still you.
- 14:21Know now he's going. Now he's moving to the soccer
- 14:23tone over here. European football, as the
- 14:27English would say. But, and I've attacked us on
- 14:30social media saying don't call it soccer, it's the European
- 14:34football, you Americans. But if we accumulate all these
- 14:37French players more often, Evan Fournier will get a one day
- 14:39contract. You dumb Americans.
- 14:42Are we going to see them all out at the MetLife on Wednesday when
- 14:45Mbappe and PSG and and Real Madrid come to town?
- 14:48I thought we should see the Knicks out there.
- 14:50We saw Deuce McBride lighting fireworks on July 4th.
- 14:52How wonderful the. MBA on it so he so he blows his
- 14:56hands up like JPP did and then we have a guy that's playing
- 15:00with three fingers wonderful great job deuce so I I have no
- 15:05stay away from the. Fireworks enjoy the sweater
- 15:07vest. July 4th and wasn't sweating
- 15:09I'm. Going to see Deuce McBride
- 15:12blinding up fireworks and blowing his hands OK I it's very
- 15:15New York NY like as we've known over the past years of stupidity
- 15:20of some of former players that I'm not going to mention on this
- 15:24show that have been on this show before.
- 15:26So let's get into it. We have a lot more Nick
- 15:29conversation. We are talking to Nick's NBATV
- 15:32contributor Ben Lyons hit. This is the first time he's been
- 15:35on the show and we're very happy to have him.
- 15:36He's a great personality, does a lot right now with NBATV.
- 15:40You know, Nick, Ben, I, there's a lot of a lot of things with
- 15:43this Tom Thibodeau thing. You brought it up and there's a
- 15:46there's a lot of questions to the Knicks on how they handled
- 15:48this at the end of the season. But the one thing that was
- 15:52interesting when the season was over, there were stories coming
- 15:55out that the only two players that stuck up for Tom Thibodeau
- 16:00and wanted him still there is Josh Hart and Jaylen Brunson.
- 16:04Is there any truth to that? And who was the guy that really
- 16:08stemmed this to get him fired? Come on man, how do I know that
- 16:13I mean? There's more leaks in the side
- 16:14guy. You're inside guy.
- 16:15I'd like to get an inside answer.
- 16:17Who knows, You know, Brunson obviously has a history in a
- 16:19relationship and his dad and yes, of course it's part of the
- 16:2390s Knicks and all that. And, you know, Heart and and
- 16:26Brunson are forever connected as the roommates.
- 16:30But I mean, Mikhail Bridges was outspoken during the season
- 16:33about being frustrated with some of the playing minutes.
- 16:35And he had kind of, you know, said some stuff during a road
- 16:38trip that kind of alluded to some frustrations.
- 16:41But when the results are there, 24 playoff wins for the team in
- 16:45four years, you know, can you judge Thibodeau on what the team
- 16:52has done historically? Like what happened with Samuel
- 16:55Dalambear and Michael Doliak and Clarence Witherspoon somehow
- 16:58matters like an O4O5O6, like the fact that they stunk back then
- 17:03but are good now. Does that give him a pass to
- 17:06stick around longer? How big was Doliak's head
- 17:09though? That dude had a cranium.
- 17:11Him and Chris Dudley, probably the biggest domes in in Nick in
- 17:14Nick's history. Yeah, man.
- 17:16Like, I feel like I feel like those teams were so bad that
- 17:20people couldn't even savor the fact that this team is finally
- 17:23good. And he deserves some, like,
- 17:26somewhat of a leash for for, you know, the way they were able to
- 17:30overachieve in the playoffs and the fact they beat the defending
- 17:33champions and took the Pacers to six.
- 17:35I mean, Eastern Conference finals is kind of crazy.
- 17:39Ben, first of all, let's get honest here.
- 17:42Let's be honest. Let's get honest on this whole
- 17:45argument of Tom Thibodeau. I was a guy and I don't know, I
- 17:49wrote a story a year before they hired Tom Thibodeau.
- 17:52And Speedy will tell you I was the guy that said the Knicks
- 17:56should hire Tom Thibodeau. As soon as they brought Leon
- 17:58Rose in, I knew they were hiring Tom Thibodeau.
- 18:00But I also believe they kept Tom Thibodeau 2 years long than they
- 18:04should have. All right, I just don't think
- 18:07Tom Thibodeau is a winning coach.
- 18:09He's never won. He's never played it as a coach
- 18:12in the finals. That Chicago Bulls team fell
- 18:15short with the Heat. They can never get over the
- 18:17hump. He's a great coach.
- 18:19He's a great regular season coach, but he wears out his
- 18:21players. He plays them too long and
- 18:23they're not the same players. Josh Hart.
- 18:25I don't care what Josh Hart says and I love you Josh.
- 18:28If you listen to the show, we love you.
- 18:30The the problem with Josh Hart is he doesn't want to tell the
- 18:32truth about the real story behind the season.
- 18:35And the real story is he was worn out too much.
- 18:38This guy is a great two way player.
- 18:40He's a great for the size. Maybe because they have no bench
- 18:44and he should be coming off the bench.
- 18:46And he's. Playing.
- 18:47I mean, why don't you push your bench, right?
- 18:49Well, come on. Tyler Kollek, you should have
- 18:51played him. I know you don't want to say
- 18:53that, but they should have played him.
- 18:54I don't understand. You got to see what you have.
- 18:57There Tyler Kollek. Why is he on the bench then?
- 19:00Why is he on the roster? If you have these guys on the
- 19:03roster, you got to use them. That's that's what I'm saying.
- 19:07Ben, he doesn't use these guys. He doesn't, he doesn't use young
- 19:10players. There have been attacks with him
- 19:12when he was with the Timberwolves that he doesn't
- 19:14like to start younger players. He likes to keep those younger
- 19:16players on the bench to learn. And then by the time.
- 19:19He's a head coach in the NBA who likes playing star players.
- 19:22That's. Fine and it doesn't work like
- 19:24that. It wins in.
- 19:25The NBA? Well, guess what?
- 19:27Guess what? Over the years, how many of
- 19:30those coaches actually win when they just play their star
- 19:32players? What do you mean?
- 19:34Look at all the current coaches in the league who have won NBA
- 19:37titles and it's been on the back.
- 19:38Spring won. Steve Kerr, does he not play
- 19:40younger players? He played.
- 19:42Wiggins, he's a young player. He played.
- 19:44When Steph Curry was out, they missed the playoffs.
- 19:46When Klay Thompson's out, they missed the.
- 19:48Playoffs, of course he's their star, but but there's.
- 19:52Wiggins a number. One draft pick.
- 19:54There are great coaches over the years, and I know you're not
- 19:58going to think that Nurse was a good coach, but he played in
- 20:00Toronto, he played young guys. You got to play younger, you got
- 20:03to play. They kept.
- 20:04Knocking on the door and it took the addition of Kawhi, Leonard
- 20:07and Marcus, but you need. Stars to win, we know that.
- 20:10But you need a you need a young roster to play.
- 20:13You can't just start these old guys and wear them out all
- 20:16season when they're playing 4546 minutes.
- 20:19Old on this. Team.
- 20:20I'm just saying NBA in right now.
- 20:23If you look at the NBA, Carl Anthony Towns is what, 30 years
- 20:26old? Is he 30?
- 20:28Might turn 30 in September. He is 30.
- 20:31He's 30. Considerably 30 years old is
- 20:34kind of old in the NBA now. It is.
- 20:37It's. That's no, that's grown up NBA
- 20:40this. Go time this when stop.
- 20:42You know it. Come on.
- 20:44Come on. Benny.
- 20:46Benny. Does anybody call you Benny?
- 20:48Does your mom call you Benny? No, I've got Benji and Benny.
- 20:52I'm in trouble with his Benji right here with.
- 20:54You I'm. That's it with you, Ben.
- 20:56Well. Carl, like he tells me, let's
- 20:58give the big fellas some credit, right?
- 21:00He scored 20 points in the fourth quarter.
- 21:02When the season's on the line, they needed him most.
- 21:03He hit threes from, you know, Japan it.
- 21:06Felt, yeah, he chucks up 80 foot jumpers.
- 21:08That's great, Great. Fan He got one in Detroit and
- 21:11then like gave him a ball pass the rest of the playoffs to do
- 21:14that. But he's all he's all NBA played
- 21:1765 plus right. I mean he's available.
- 21:20He played every bite in the playoffs and so availability is
- 21:23the best ability. They're the best training staff
- 21:25in the league this year. They they are all we're all
- 21:28available in when the playoffs counted and Mitchell Robinson,
- 21:31who missed 665 Plus Cat gets a lot of a lot of heat for the
- 21:36zesty stuff. But put that aside man, and the
- 21:39guy is one of the most skilled offensive players of our
- 21:41generation for. A bitches and moans.
- 21:43I don't want to see a guy go out there and cry to the referees.
- 21:47He failed me. Well, that's everybody nowadays,
- 21:50though. Come on, that's that's what
- 21:51this. AAU generation is like, I want
- 21:53to see Carl Anthony of Towns go out there and actually play some
- 21:56kind of like a defense, maybe just show up and actually stand
- 22:00there and play somewhat of a defensive game.
- 22:03Hey, hit the glass. He had like 14 rebounds a night.
- 22:05I mean a guy bored. Yeah, but what happened in the
- 22:07playoffs when he, when he played against Detroit and with
- 22:10Detroit, was punching a middle? Trouble.
- 22:11You're right, Detroit was punching a ball.
- 22:14They were doing that. Foul trouble was the storyline,
- 22:16and for Brunson too. I didn't expect Brunson to keep
- 22:19getting in foul trouble these playoff series.
- 22:21But but no, the Pistons are bigger, stronger, faster team.
- 22:25And the fact they were able to beat them and the way they beat
- 22:27them and then to come back the way they did against the
- 22:29Celtics, those games, it's all about the journey.
- 22:32Guys like Java, you know this like it's those, those big wins
- 22:36that you remember and you remember your family celebrating
- 22:38and you remember that. It's like if you win the World
- 22:40Series, you win the NBA title. Yes, obviously that is the goal,
- 22:44but it's not a failure. It's Nick.
- 22:46There are a lot of Knick fans who feel like this is a failure.
- 22:49What? Happened.
- 22:49It was a failure of a season. You should have made it to the
- 22:53Finals. I don't care what you say,
- 22:55Benny. I am getting mad now.
- 22:57Ben, I love you. You're on this show, Tyler.
- 23:01I am angry. Yes, I am tired.
- 23:04I'm tired of watching this garbage of a basketball team.
- 23:07I've watched it since the 90s when the the Knicks, those mean
- 23:10St. Knicks with Oakley and Mason and
- 23:13Xavier McDaniel, Yes, even the Chicago Bulls brother in high
- 23:19school, Kiki Vanderwey. Remember those teams.
- 23:23I'm tired. I'm tired of watching this
- 23:25garbage. You had a chance.
- 23:27You played a better you're a better team than Indiana and you
- 23:30laid up lousy goose eggs against a team that you have more talent
- 23:35than it's. But it's to me that was the
- 23:38reason why he got fired. He didn't show up.
- 23:40The Knicks did not show up for. The final They went to the
- 23:42Eastern Conference final for the first time since you started
- 23:44shaving. Yeah, it's shaving.
- 23:47Please. I mean, it was 99 and I was, I
- 23:51was graduating from high school, so I was shaving baby, in many
- 23:54different areas. I'm not going to tell you, but
- 23:56please don't. Speedy hasn't shaved since he
- 23:59was born, so. I'm glad I should have.
- 24:02You got come on me. I had some like like the summer
- 24:05scruffed on, but Jabba's got this here.
- 24:08That's like, that was a full protest vote of Brian Cashman
- 24:11says he left. He's got chickens.
- 24:12Living in his beard right now. No, this is this is Trim.
- 24:16No, when I went to Detroit, yeah, I didn't.
- 24:20I didn't give a damn. I just let it go.
- 24:23Detroit's awesome, man. For people who don't know, like
- 24:25I went to the University of Michigan.
- 24:26I do a lot. Yeah, I was.
- 24:27I was going to have to live a little talk on that on on your
- 24:29screen. I saw a Michigan hat of it you
- 24:31might have. To I know, I know you're from
- 24:33it's been it's been 2047 days, by the way, since that school in
- 24:38Ohio beat Michigan in a football game, but just right.
- 24:43I I love Detroit, man. You played there for a hot
- 24:46second. Like it's a cool town that's on
- 24:47the on the rise. And I don't know.
- 24:49What was your experience like there?
- 24:50Like, Oh, I I. My first year I lived in
- 24:54Bloomfield Township right off Telegraph and then second year I
- 24:59lived in Birmingham which which was cool.
- 25:03They were cool areas. Very lived right down the street
- 25:05from me. The dude, the dudes house that I
- 25:09got was literally like his family.
- 25:11Remember back in the day from the airports, The Sharper Image?
- 25:15Of course, yeah. That family.
- 25:17Stuff you like, almost wanted to buy.
- 25:19Yeah, that so they, they're from there.
- 25:22And it was, it was the son's house.
- 25:24He was actually moving to New York to start some like
- 25:27headphone company or whatever. You have like 100 recliners and
- 25:30stuff dude. If the basement was like a
- 25:32lounge, it literally it had five TV's on the wall, a big
- 25:35sectional, a ping pong table. It had lounge seating, it had
- 25:39like a dance floor like material.
- 25:41Bathroom box. Oh, it was fantastic.
- 25:45Yeah, it was. It was great.
- 25:46And sneaky good food. Sneaky good food, yeah.
- 25:49Yeah, and there's a cool little spot across from like where the
- 25:52original Tiger Stadium was that every year celebrates Babe
- 25:55Ruth's birthday. That's a good thing.
- 25:57Ton of history there. Detroit's a great sports town.
- 26:00Yeah, it's cool you got a chance to play there.
- 26:03Transitioning back to the Knicks.
- 26:04I just wanted to ask if there's any moves either trades wise,
- 26:06Obviously free agency, there's not much left, but maybe a
- 26:08trades wise that you would consider doing if you were the
- 26:11Knicks, either to improve the bench or another potential
- 26:14dangled starter for that possibly.
- 26:16I'm going to get, I'm going to get Arrow fired up.
- 26:18He got traded today and said he was a math equation.
- 26:20I put it out there on Soho show because I know he followed.
- 26:23He definitely saw it. Can we get Kevin Love to New
- 26:25York? I would love to see that.
- 26:27I don't want Kevin Love. I don't want old man love
- 26:30jumping around over here in New York.
- 26:32Stay wherever you are, Kevin. And.
- 26:34Then and then we got Seth Curry. It would be so nixed to get the
- 26:37other Curry. We got the other ants to Kumpo.
- 26:40We hired Chris Smith once J Rs brother.
- 26:42We had the wrong Hardaway. We had, you know, let's get, I
- 26:46don't know. It's your Michigan boy, Tim
- 26:48Hardaway, Tim. Twice a Nick, always a Nick.
- 26:51Tim Hardaway Junior Tim. Hardaway senior's been on a
- 26:56show. Quite a few times.
- 26:57He loves Kyle. Kyle Lowry just signed with
- 26:59Philly, so he's off the books. I didn't realize he was that
- 27:02old. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:04He's I was like starting to shoot his.
- 27:05Age on the front, you know. What I mean?
- 27:08But what do we got for point guards Arrow.
- 27:10Like who? We need another point guard I.
- 27:12Think, really, who, who, who do the Knicks have to bring in to
- 27:15make me want to throw? Damn, I've heard.
- 27:19Development now, so there you. Go.
- 27:20I would love to see that, but there are stories coming out
- 27:23that Miami is in the Dame sweepstakes.
- 27:26Also a team that some people believe could be in the
- 27:28sweepstakes is the Knicks. He actually, he trains out here
- 27:32in New York during the offseason.
- 27:34He also, he goes to a lot of production studios out here in
- 27:39New York, a lot in the offseason.
- 27:41Why not Dame come over here and rap for the New York Knicks?
- 27:44For a couple of years, it's kind of weird with guys like Dame,
- 27:47guys like Russell Westbrook. We're talking about a LeBron
- 27:50buyout. Obviously money is money, and I
- 27:52think there's something about when you are performing at the
- 27:55highest level, you deserve to get every cent.
- 27:58But if Dame wanted to crack the code, come here on the veteran
- 28:01minimum and you still get the 100 M's from the Bucks.
- 28:04Like it's right there for you, dude.
- 28:06But then I it's it's to me, I don't think the the Knicks need
- 28:10the guard play. I think they got to continue
- 28:12doing what they're doing and add to the bench, add to the wing
- 28:15play. I think the more wings you have,
- 28:17the more wings you add and the defense you need off the bench.
- 28:21I think that's where the Knicks need to go.
- 28:22Because you saw in the playoffs, especially against Indiana, when
- 28:25they when they had to go to their bench, the defense was
- 28:28just so lackluster. They just couldn't defend when
- 28:31they were bringing that second team out and of.
- 28:33Course that's the 6. He's Bill like you.
- 28:37He's like 68260. I'm not 6-8.
- 28:40Job was like 6 three. I'm like 5-10.
- 28:42I'm just, I'm broad. I'm a big.
- 28:44Guy, but I'm I'm slowly billed, you know?
- 28:46What I mean, I'm one of those guys.
- 28:47Listen, Ben, I'm one of those guys that if you ask me to play
- 28:50defense, I'll play defense. I'll get right between the
- 28:53thighs. If Job was going to come at me,
- 28:55I'm I'm. Playing in my we're so the dude
- 28:58in the gym and pick up now I'm like man, I'm just going to
- 29:01knock knees with this dude and ruin my summer, huh?
- 29:04OK, I'm one of those guys that you, if you turn your for one
- 29:07second, I'm giving you an elbow, I'm giving you a nice little
- 29:10knee right into the grind I'm making.
- 29:12Sure, playing every game like it's my last because it might be
- 29:15because the guys like you. I wish you I wish you said he
- 29:17was 6 foot 8. There's been guests that have
- 29:19called him like 5 foot 6 and he he goes look at the problem.
- 29:22Silly frame. Dude, Ben, I go out and and
- 29:24people like they watch me on the show and then we go out to an
- 29:27event and they're like, oh, you look like you're 56I stand
- 29:29there. I'm like I'm 510 1/2.
- 29:31I am not small. And they look at me, he's like,
- 29:33wow, you're a lot bigger than you do on a camera.
- 29:35I was like, dude, you know you're short when you have to
- 29:37add the half. Yeah, but I am 510 1/2.
- 29:39I'm not. Screw you, Jabba, screw you.
- 29:42I mean, I'm 220 lbs I I'm, I'm a thick.
- 29:46I'm thinking the right places, right, Speedy?
- 29:48I don't know if you know. No, I got a woman.
- 29:50I got a woman. She'll tell you.
- 29:53All I know is, yeah, I think it was, yeah, it was Leroy Butler.
- 29:56What we had about the show that was like 3 times during the
- 29:58interview called Errol, He was 5 foot 6.
- 30:00And that said, Errol was like much younger than or much older
- 30:03than he actually. Is crazy and everybody when I go
- 30:07out, everybody thinks that I'm like 2829 this mother.
- 30:10I love you. First of all, Leroy, we love you
- 30:12and we love them. But Leroy actually told me I
- 30:15look older than I am. I'm like Leroy, what do you say
- 30:17I'm 50 years old. Screw you, Leroy.
- 30:20But Leroy Brown. Remember that movie Speedy?
- 30:22Remember that? What movie?
- 30:23I know the new. Jack City Baby.
- 30:25One of the greatest movies of all time, by the way.
- 30:27I love it by the way. And he also said, here's also
- 30:30because Arrow's a Jets fan, too. He's also taking shots at The
- 30:33Jets like the last time they made the playoffs with Leroy
- 30:35was. Everybody, everybody takes shots
- 30:37at the New York Jets, OK, The Jets are a laughing stock in New
- 30:40York, as they always have been. And and and.
- 30:42The Knicks are ripe, tailing behind them with the New York
- 30:44Mets and the Islanders, obviously, but the island just.
- 30:48Won four times. It's tough, man.
- 30:49It's you guys. I mean, you guys are die hard
- 30:51Yankees. I'm listening to the show and
- 30:52they're arguing over who's the GM in the 90s.
- 30:55He's a Mets fan. You know that man?
- 30:56He's a Mets fan, Yeah, but all right, the Mets we know are the
- 30:59Mets, and they're a mess and Sodo stinks and all that, and
- 31:02they're just terrible. So.
- 31:03But then you got the Yankees, who haven't won since 09, and
- 31:08you got. Yeah.
- 31:09And then The Jets of The Jets, the Giants of the Giants.
- 31:12The Giants, it's really the Liberty.
- 31:15Sound Man and the Liberty are struggling now this summer.
- 31:17They got waxed yesterday. Are you really going to go to
- 31:20the Liberty? Are you serious?
- 31:22I mean, I love what Caitlin. Talking to the wrong guy.
- 31:24I'm a die hard, you know my. Question My question for you and
- 31:28that's going to the Liberty Caitlin Clark.
- 31:32I, I, we speak high praise of who she is and what she's done
- 31:35for the WNBA. The money that she's bringing
- 31:37in, the endorsements, the the sponsorships and the shoe deals
- 31:42that she's bringing in and the for the future for like, like
- 31:44girls like Angel Reese and some of the young girls that are
- 31:47coming up through the college ranks.
- 31:49Why is it that every single one of these women playing in the
- 31:54WNBA have so much hate for this girl who's done nothing but good
- 31:58things for the WNBA? I want to know your opinion.
- 32:00Let's see. Blank and same with every single
- 32:03one. I think a lot of them, a lot of.
- 32:05Them I think I think when you you have to really understand
- 32:08how marginalized and how challenging the journey has been
- 32:11for a lot of women playing hoops and when they feel like someones
- 32:15been anointed it they want to see it and they're competitors.
- 32:18So you're like, man, when I guard her, it's going to be
- 32:21different. When I square up against her,
- 32:23I'll show her what's up. That's the competitor in these
- 32:26women, right? And she comes on the court and
- 32:28busts her ass and shoots it from Ohio from 30 feet like that.
- 32:32And that, like she's a star. Because when you watch Hoop like
- 32:35we all do, whether it's the men's game, the women's game,
- 32:37she does stuff that no Hooper does.
- 32:40She does stuff that makes you go OK, like this woman's just
- 32:43different. So there's some jealousy, maybe
- 32:46there's some resentment. I think there was some confusion
- 32:49at first is, wait, why is she getting all this praise?
- 32:51They didn't win it all in the champion.
- 32:53Stewie said if you don't win it all in college, like, does it,
- 32:57you know, Diana was saying, oh, I'll take Paige over her.
- 32:59So they want to see it now. They've seen it.
- 33:02And it's, I think that's kind of dying down a little bit.
- 33:04I mean, she's tough. They're they're they they
- 33:07embrace the villain role the the Tres Lechas like, I love the
- 33:11whole thing in Indiana. It should be a little better.
- 33:13She's been injured. She missed her fifth game
- 33:15tonight. I think I saw Speedy said on the
- 33:18up there, Fish said on the update.
- 33:20But it's growing pains, man. That league is crazy that this
- 33:23like the stuff that they have to go through and have endured over
- 33:26the last, you know, I don't know, 27 years.
- 33:29I mean, Jabba, if you had to go to Russia or Bulgaria for six
- 33:34months out of the year to pitch and have no offseason to make a
- 33:37living and make more money over there than here, like you have
- 33:41resentment to help the leagues run and stuff.
- 33:43So it's just kind of a mess. But at the same time, it's
- 33:45growing and it's dope hoop and if you go to the Barclays and
- 33:49just like go on a Tuesday night in July, it's a vibe, right I'm.
- 33:53All but because she's doing what she's doing for the WNBA, these
- 33:57girls are not going to have to go to Belarus or Spain or
- 34:00Portugal to play basketball after the WNBA.
- 34:03So I don't know why. What?
- 34:04What's the bitch in the moaning? And Diana Taurasi, please.
- 34:07Old man, old woman Taurasi going out there and speaking like
- 34:12she's something. Special, I say.
- 34:13You can't thing I say. I get it.
- 34:16My Yukon. I'll tell you what I think of
- 34:18Yukon and Yukon basketball. I'm not going to say it on this
- 34:21radio show because we got a lot of Yukonites listening to the
- 34:24show and they're probably going to hate me after.
- 34:26Well, what else is new? Everybody hates me.
- 34:28Kiss my ass. Jabba hates.
- 34:30Me. It's a great name for your
- 34:31autobiography. Arrow everybody hates.
- 34:33Everybody hates me. That's perfect.
- 34:36Jabba hates me. Like, that's like the show.
- 34:38Everybody hates Chris. Everybody.
- 34:39Hates. But I want to know, Errol, you
- 34:45brought that up and like, obviously, Ben, you see, like
- 34:48you see it on a different, I guess a different spectrum as
- 34:52far as like covering it and what you do.
- 34:54Like why, why do they just let these people go out there all
- 34:58Willy nilly? I'll use Cheryl Swoops as an
- 34:59example. She's like, well, she had five
- 35:02and six years. She's 25 years old.
- 35:04She did it in 3 1/2 because she had a COVID short in the year in
- 35:072020 and she's only 22. Like how come there's no like?
- 35:13And I think it's great for the WNBA just because it's creating
- 35:17some type of feeling because it hasn't had any for a while.
- 35:22And how they said that the Fever wouldn't have made the playoffs
- 35:25without her. They won like 8 games the year
- 35:27before like and then they go to they they go to the playoffs so.
- 35:31Now, a tough moment there for Cheryl Swoops.
- 35:33And she was sitting. She was.
- 35:34Taking more than one elbow on on some of the dumb shit she said.
- 35:38I know that's been unfortunate to see her and you got to think
- 35:41too, but I mean, that's that's you're talking Errol's talking
- 35:43about the women from today who are playing beefing with her on
- 35:46the court. You're talking about previous
- 35:48generations, you know, multiple times removed from the league.
- 35:52And so there's obviously some some resentment there, but
- 35:55unfortunately that was it like a tough moment where it wasn't
- 35:58about your opinion. Like, oh, I don't think she's
- 36:00going to be an All Star of the first year or whatever.
- 36:04That's different than saying like she took five years and it
- 36:08took X amount of games when that's just wrong, right?
- 36:11And she is sitting opposite that modern day Walter Cronkite
- 36:15Gilbert Arena. So I give her a little bit of
- 36:17that. I I I will say this.
- 36:20Look, we've all, all of us in this hot take space.
- 36:23We're trying to predict the future of sports.
- 36:25We've all had some some cold ones.
- 36:28Like you can look up my takes on Jokic.
- 36:30They're not my finest hour. But I don't Get the facts wrong
- 36:33in terms of how many games a guy plays and whatnot.
- 36:36So I think that, yeah, I think little job of like, you've seen
- 36:40it at different times in basketball, like when Allen
- 36:42Iverson came in the league, it was a big conversation about him
- 36:45having to respect the elders of the game and having to, you
- 36:49know, show love to the previous generation.
- 36:51There was like a lot of that. Well, that was like, that was
- 36:53too with like his, you know, wearing jerseys and chains and
- 36:57all that stuff. All types of stuff, right?
- 37:00But now it's like Lebron's generation has made it cool,
- 37:02kind of to like, embrace the young.
- 37:04Guys he like so you're bringing up LeBron now.
- 37:07There we go so so you wanted to bring up LeBron James and I'm
- 37:11going to tell you what I think about LeBron James and first of
- 37:13all, it's not the NBA, it's the LJA, the LeBron James
- 37:19association. It's what, a little?
- 37:21Popcorn because he's going to go for.
- 37:23A LeBron James is the biggest bitch of them all.
- 37:26He's the greatest, second greatest.
- 37:27Basketball player ever to play. I am going to tell you this
- 37:30right now. He is the second greatest.
- 37:32From Ohio, that's your man. I don't know what we're doing.
- 37:35LeBron James. Listen, LeBron James is the
- 37:37second greatest basketball player of all time, right behind
- 37:39Michael Jordan. I won't argue that that is true.
- 37:42But him politically and opening his mouth and throwing people
- 37:45onto the bus and saying the things that he has said and
- 37:47sticking up for assholes like, yes, Kyrie Irving, who's the
- 37:52most disrespectful piece of garbage in the NBA.
- 37:57Great, great ball handler, probably right behind AI.
- 38:00You can argue that he's probably the second greatest ball handler
- 38:02we've ever seen, but the fact is LeBron James has ruined the
- 38:06game. Here he is right there.
- 38:08Hey, he's a LeBron James enthusiast, right over there
- 38:11with his little Kobe, whatever the hell it is.
- 38:13Popcorn eating. You know, mongrel pretzel
- 38:16eating. Bull sucker, can you?
- 38:19All right, all right, so clearly you're not a LeBron fan.
- 38:21I get. It no, I, I, I think he's the
- 38:23second greatest basketball player of all time.
- 38:25I say, no, you're not. You're not a fan and he's an
- 38:27idiot. That's pretty offensive and
- 38:29derived sort of things about it. I see where you stand, but I'll
- 38:32ask you this much like I'm trying to think in culture, pop
- 38:36culture, media, entertainment, sports and sports are a part of
- 38:40that. Who has been introduced to us as
- 38:45the chosen 1 like this is the guy from like 16 and then held
- 38:50that to 41 without jumping on the couch like Tom Cruise and
- 38:56having Scientology debates and things without having real
- 39:01awesome grace you. Brought now you brought it up.
- 39:03OK, This is the same LeBron James that was going to the PD P
- 39:07Diddy parties, hanging out with P Diddy, going to those freak
- 39:10offs. OK, Please, LJA baby, if it's
- 39:15not P Diddy, it's Spike friggin Lee.
- 39:18I am done. LJA.
- 39:20Ladies and gentlemen, Adam Silver is LeBron James's bitch.
- 39:24That's what he is. You can eat.
- 39:26It. You can size.
- 39:28As someone who, as someone who takes great, as someone who
- 39:31takes great pride, I know you're covering the NBA advise.
- 39:35It's a little much, what you're saying.
- 39:38Considering. What this guy has the guy built
- 39:41a school dog like he built a school like.
- 39:44If I had his money, I'd be building churches, schools.
- 39:47And he had and he stood up for a lot of marginalized people.
- 39:50And I think he's actually created the point I was
- 39:52originally trying to make, which I think is kind of interesting.
- 39:55You'll indulge me for a moment. Let's go.
- 39:57The idea that like this next generation of players, there's
- 40:00not this resentment right now when LeBron and KD and Steph are
- 40:04all going to be passing the torch.
- 40:06There's kind of a brotherhood that's formed, there's economic
- 40:08empowerment, There's like taking your career into your own hands.
- 40:12There's these guys are passing the torch and they're given the
- 40:15blueprint. They're not sitting in their
- 40:17ivory towers saying you guys are the next Gen.
- 40:20You're not having it like us. We're not seeing that from these
- 40:23guys. Really, Katie has how many
- 40:24Twitter accounts 8910? Talking to talking to you, he's
- 40:29talking to you what I'm talking about when he's sitting down
- 40:32with Victor Wimbunyama and giving him jewels on how to be a
- 40:36pro at the highest level and be a global superstar when you're,
- 40:39you know, come on, man, like these guys.
- 40:41That's the thing too. And Jabba, you know, like you
- 40:44guys get all this money and you're so young and all this
- 40:46fame and we know how many guys can we talk about who messed it
- 40:50up or blue in? Then what do you?
- 40:53Think that it is. It is more prevalent, as you
- 40:56said, like from the men's side of thing.
- 40:59Wouldn't like now that they're getting this opportunity from
- 41:02the women's side of it, Wouldn't you want to embrace that more to
- 41:05like as, as we always get excited about the guy that signs
- 41:09a great contract before us because he sets the mark now and
- 41:13now boom, that mark. Now I'm going to have the
- 41:15opportunity to get a shoe deal or to, to make more in
- 41:18arbitration or free agency or have that marketing stuff.
- 41:21I just, we're all to be the best that we can be.
- 41:25And they get to that level, right?
- 41:28And so wouldn't you want to praise that and be like, look at
- 41:30all this stuff. Look at how much more our
- 41:32attendance is up. And like, I would, I would
- 41:34shower her with all the praise in the world.
- 41:36And is she the only one? No, there's been great players
- 41:39before. You know, Lobo, you've had Lisa
- 41:41Leslie, you've had a ton of great women's basketball
- 41:45players. And then when somebody comes
- 41:47like this, I just, it just blows my mind.
- 41:49You're absolutely right. You know, it's a watershed
- 41:51moment for the league and it's the only year 2 for her.
- 41:54So I still think there's some growing pains with it.
- 41:56And I think eventually when this new collective bargaining
- 41:59agreement gets done, which is like has everybody on edge right
- 42:02now and all of its influx TV and new media partners and stuff,
- 42:05once that dust settles, they'll be like, oh, this is the golden
- 42:09goose. We all can eat off this.
- 42:11The game is going to grow. You have 3 new franchises in the
- 42:14next three years I think in Toronto, and you already saw
- 42:18Golden State, you're going to Troy.
- 42:19They just announced Cleveland. So it's like when they when
- 42:23Caitlin Clark starts coming to town in those cities and they
- 42:25realize, oh, wow, the hotels sold out.
- 42:28Oh, wow, ESPN here. Oh, look at countdown here.
- 42:31Look at okay, the restaurant sold out.
- 42:33Like I think let's give us some time.
- 42:35It's just happening right now. Not.
- 42:41Arrows watching The Jets because they just signed a new lineman
- 42:45and they're going. To take it on the of course,
- 42:47leave it up to all these so-called radio or television
- 42:52stars to attack me about the New York Jets.
- 42:55I haven't even mentioned The Jets except you idiots bringing
- 42:59up The Jets and now all of a sudden, oh, he's a jet fan.
- 43:01Let's go attack him. All right.
- 43:04Anyways, we love you, man, and this was a great interview.
- 43:07You're. Fit.
- 43:07I appreciate you guys having me on.
- 43:09You guys are building something. I've been a fan Java for a long
- 43:11time. I want to get some Nick Swisher
- 43:13stories off air. You can't bro me unless you know
- 43:16me. I love that.
- 43:16Dude. But there's an Ohio guy.
- 43:20But, but you guys are great. Thank you for having me, man.
- 43:22Let's chop it up when the season starts for these Knicks.
- 43:25I will tell you Ben, we had a clicker one time and he kept
- 43:27saying bro, we just threw the damn clicker away because we
- 43:29couldn't keep. Every time he says, bro, you're
- 43:31like, it's like a doorman at a club and you're like.
- 43:34I was like, all right, I'm done. I think me and Cece were like,
- 43:37how many you got? I was like 73.
- 43:38He's like, yeah, I'm like 70. I was like I'm.
- 43:40I'm done. Can we just, can we have it on
- 43:42like an 11 today, not like a four?
- 43:44We're only in like the 5th inning too.
- 43:46It's like barely half over. A lot of those play by play
- 43:49guys, I mean, they're just absolutely putrid.
- 43:51I'm not going to mention any names, no.
- 43:53You guys are awesome. Thank you for having me on man,
- 43:55I love chopping it up. Absolutely, Ben.
- 43:57We really appreciate first time on our show so you could tell
- 44:00the fans what we really are. I'm probably saying, man, that
- 44:03guy's out of his mind, but. I like it.
- 44:05I like it. It's spicy.
- 44:07Let's mix it up. Yeah.
- 44:08Well, and we'll talk about Diddy another time.
- 44:11I've been to a few. Yeah, well, we'll step away.
- 44:13Hopefully you don't go to them anyways.
- 44:15Ben Lyons, ladies and gentlemen, he's great.
- 44:20That was fun. That was fun.
- 44:22I like that. That was fun.
- 44:24I I can't lie that that was a fun interview.
- 44:27He had a lot of fun. You could tell he had a lot of
- 44:29fun and we went all over the place after the Knicks, so it
- 44:32was great. Thank you to Ben Lyons.
- 44:34He was fantastic. NBA Knicks NBATV contributor.
- 44:37I've seen him on NBATV. He's he's sensational and he
- 44:41knows his Knicks. There's no question that he
- 44:43does. Let's go to Speedy's 6 pack of
- 44:46the day. Let's have a sixer.
- 44:49Hey, who wants to play Drink the Beer?
- 44:51It's time for the Speedy 6 pack of the way.
- 44:55I didn't see my Wiener. No, there's no wieners involved,
- 44:59though I would hope. But different theme this week
- 45:03for for us. Fish had this idea with some NHL
- 45:07and NBA offseason rumors. We'll start in the NHL, the
- 45:11biggest. Speedy, hold on one second,
- 45:12Speedy. Before we get started, I just
- 45:14want everyone to know that we're doing a countdown and it starts
- 45:18with #6. So we'll do 3 hockey to start,
- 45:21then three NBA. The biggest signing this
- 45:23weekend, eight and a half, $1,000,000 per year.
- 45:25The the Hurricanes bringing in Nikolai Ehlers, the fast winger
- 45:28from the Winnipeg Jets. Good goal scorer, 6 years, $51
- 45:31million deal. An organization that's been
- 45:33rumored for many different teams for players for a while.
- 45:36Obviously the big Mika Rotnen story, they could not keep him.
- 45:38They struck out on Gentzel. Is this their guy?
- 45:41Is it enough? We'll say.
- 45:42Why are you bringing in another player when you just need a
- 45:45goalie? You have a chance to go and
- 45:47spend some money on a goalie, you spend it on another forward.
- 45:50Makes no sense. Makes no sense. #5 All right,
- 45:54we'll go to the New York Islanders.
- 45:56They win a bidding war for a highly touted prospect and a
- 45:58Maxim Chabanov. The Rangers ran on him too, as
- 46:01well as the Philadelphia Flyers, 57.57 points and I believe 67
- 46:06games in Russia last year, the most I think since that Karil
- 46:09Caprazov year. So Islanders win a bidding war,
- 46:12More young talent, more young forward talent going to the New
- 46:15York. Island an absolute slam dunk.
- 46:18This guy could be a forty goal scorer just so just say.
- 46:21Just want to let everybody know that for the Islanders.
- 46:24Best Russian player they've had since Yashin.
- 46:27You go back that far. He's he's good.
- 46:29He's going to be really, really good.
- 46:30And by the way, the story is him and Sarokin are very close and
- 46:35that's why he went there so. All right #4 and we'll round out
- 46:39hockey with the other end of the aisle of New York, with the New
- 46:43York Rangers. Chris Drury, when he was asked
- 46:45about an Art Tammy Panarin contract extension, he had no
- 46:48words. He dropped dead silent on that
- 46:51one year left on his deal. Obviously, there's the scandal
- 46:53with the, with the, with the Russian, with the whole, the sex
- 46:56prostitution thing or whatever it was in 2023 that the Rangers
- 46:59brushed under the rug. But Chris Drury reluctant to
- 47:02sign him. Is it good, Is it bad?
- 47:04What do we got? Terrible.
- 47:05Absolutely terrible. He'll leave.
- 47:08The Rangers will win another Stanley Cup.
- 47:10Typical. Typical.
- 47:11Rangers, they better get something for him if they're
- 47:13going to. They can't just get nothing.
- 47:15Chris Drury is the worst. GM I'm going to say he like if
- 47:18there's any like 5 players not to blame for the Rangers Wolves
- 47:21last year Panera still did well enough where they have to try.
- 47:23To get look look, does he drive you a little mad with like his
- 47:27defensive not giving a crap on the back check at times?
- 47:30Sure, but what he can do offensively is something that
- 47:33only about 10 guys in the world can do.
- 47:35So you got to pay that guy and you got to keep him around.
- 47:39He's that good. He's been here.
- 47:40That 2023 thing was the the leader of Russia trying to
- 47:45blackmail his family to get him in trouble.
- 47:47He did nothing wrong in that whole situation.
- 47:50It was trumped up bullshit. So I'm glad he's OK.
- 47:54I hope that the jury doesn't look at that as a reason not to
- 47:57keep them, because that would be probably the worst of all the
- 48:00reasons not to keep them. I don't think there are any good
- 48:02ones to be honest with you. #3 All right.
- 48:06Let's shift to the NBA. We'll have a lot more insight on
- 48:08this on Thursday with our guest Bradley Beal and the Suns
- 48:11already discussing a buyer. And apparently the Miami Heat
- 48:13are pretty interested on jumping on him if he does get bought
- 48:17out. And then and the Lakers,
- 48:18naturally, Bradley Beal already said he wanted to play for the
- 48:20Lakers with the Suns trying to get it done quickly here.
- 48:23Bradley Beal on his way out, looking very likely.
- 48:27Bradley Beal. Yeah, I was just gonna say it's,
- 48:31I felt like it was only a matter of time, but it's just going to
- 48:34where he ended up. Who gives a crap where Bradley
- 48:36Beal goes? Honestly, who cares?
- 48:39Everywhere he go it goes. He just absolutely ruins those
- 48:42teams so who cares? You know what it's going to be,
- 48:44though, It's going to be he's not going to be called Bradley
- 48:47Beal anymore. It's going to be the Bradley
- 48:48Beal trade exception because that's how he's going to be
- 48:51referred to as the only way that he's relevant for the next
- 48:54couple of years because he's just going to be a big contract.
- 48:56The teams are constantly moving so they can make deals work for
- 49:00guys that make their team better.
- 49:01Not even in the near term because if you're taking on
- 49:04Bill's contract, you're not getting much for it right now.
- 49:08Number. 2 All right, the one that broke kind of before the
- 49:10show, the Orlando Magic giving Paolo Banqueiro A5 year 287.
- 49:15It's the rookie Max contract and put into perspective when the
- 49:19Grizzlies gave John Moran to rookie Max contract, it was five
- 49:21years, two O 7 and it's gone up even more since then.
- 49:24So is it too much money? No, he's a Duke guy.
- 49:28He's a great player. He's the franchise of the
- 49:31organization that is trying to bring in another superstar to
- 49:34play with him. It's a perfect fit.
- 49:36You got to pay him because if they don't pay him, somebody
- 49:38else will. So I I think it's a good move
- 49:41for the Orlando Magic. I don't know why anybody would
- 49:43argue that he doesn't deserve. Oh, he's just, yeah, he's
- 49:44tremendous when player, player, when he's healthy, top 20
- 49:46player. That's just hoping you can stay
- 49:48healthy at that point. But if you want to get a
- 49:49superstar, you got to have your a good.
- 49:51Player so they're they're trying they're trying to spike it up.
- 49:53They're trying to get the obviously the salary cap is
- 49:56going to continue to increase in the NBA and they're banking on
- 49:58that being a bargain let down the road.
- 50:01Well, yeah. And did you see two, if he gets
- 50:02like player of the year or MVP or something goes up another
- 50:0630%, Yeah. He can go up to 287.
- 50:09He. Will definitely be a a first NBA
- 50:13player, maybe not first or second NBA team player.
- 50:17That's the type of player he is. From what I understood, he only
- 50:19has to do it one time. As soon as he gets that one time
- 50:22then it goes up. But it doesn't.
- 50:24It doesn't accrue like OK, now you get a 60%, it's just a one
- 50:28time if you hit it 30%. They're going for it next year
- 50:31that that E is wide open. There's no reason why they
- 50:33shouldn't go for it. They're surrounding it with
- 50:34shooters now. I think they're doing a smart
- 50:37job and you got to pay the man who is a centerpiece.
- 50:39Makes a lot of sense. Number one, All right, last one,
- 50:43there are rumors from Luca Doncic's camp that he might be
- 50:46seeking a shorter contract with the Lakers and maybe banking for
- 50:49one more contract in free agency.
- 50:50He's eligible for four years and 2:48 this offseason if the
- 50:54Lakers want to give it to him. But Luca might be thinking
- 50:56otherwise. And the rumors were talking
- 50:58about last week, though the new ownership might want to build
- 50:59around Luca. Maybe they got to do it a little
- 51:02differently. Listen to the name, guys.
- 51:04Listen to the team, the Boston Celtics.
- 51:07I don't think it's hidden or even a thought in his mind that
- 51:11that's a place that he would be looking at right now.
- 51:13Brad Stevens is a smart man. He knows he's trying to save
- 51:17money. He's trying to push money
- 51:19outside of Boston right now. He knows Jason Tandem is out for
- 51:22the season. They're going to have a season
- 51:24where they're going to be a borderline back and forth
- 51:27playoff team. This is not going to be their
- 51:29year. Bet on Luka Doncic being a
- 51:32player that the Boston Celtics could be gunning for.
- 51:35So. The Lakers are going to trade
- 51:38with the Celtics. No, I, I, he's going to be a
- 51:40free agent. He's going to go to free agency.
- 51:42They're not going to trade him. He's going to go to free agency.
- 51:45I mean, they can't let him go for nothing if if he's going to
- 51:48leave, they got to do something. You would.
- 51:49You know who runs the Lakers right now, right?
- 51:51You know who's running the Lakers, right?
- 51:53It's not Genie Boss. It's not anything.
- 51:55You know who's running the Lakers?
- 51:57The Dodgers owner. No, the GM of the Lakers right
- 52:00now. It's not Genie Bus, no Pelinka
- 52:04Pelinka. And he is a horrible GM.
- 52:06He does not know what he's doing.
- 52:08So he is that stupid to let him go to free agency.
- 52:11So yeah, he'll probably do a John Tavar.
- 52:14So he'll say, yeah, I'll sign with the Lakers and then in the
- 52:16offseason say, yeah, I'm not signing with you guys, goodbye.
- 52:19You know what's up? That's what he's going to do.
- 52:21That has been yet another great 6 pack with speedy Petey.
- 52:26Right. I will say this, and for all you
- 52:29Laker fans out there that are crying about this Luca Doncic
- 52:33thing, at least you got him for another year or two and then.
- 52:36Isn't it two years? Yeah, a year or two.
- 52:40Next year, they're gonna be there Are people going to say
- 52:43that he should sign the extension?
- 52:45He's not signing any extension. He's going to go to free agency
- 52:47and he's going to spin the wheel, make the deal and the
- 52:50Lakers are going to have nothing to say.
- 52:51And then they can move him all he wants.
- 52:53He's still going to go to free agency.
- 52:55He's not signing any contract. I don't think he wants to be a
- 52:57Laker. And I I think obviously the Bus
- 52:59family doesn't own the team anymore.
- 53:00They don't give a crap anyways. We call this What's that smell?
- 53:04Hopefully. Hold up, what is that smell?
- 53:07Wow. Wow, you don't see that every
- 53:15day. I got the bubble guts.
- 53:20I've missed that. The bubble guts.
- 53:21I wasn't there that day. I needed a back story.
- 53:23Made. Money.
- 53:24No. No.
- 53:25Yeah. Java and Josh Towers were
- 53:27exchanging some interesting stories.
- 53:29Somehow that came up because it was Java's debut.
- 53:31The same with what was it when Josh plunked a rod twice?
- 53:34Was is that a Java? Yeah.
- 53:36Yeah. Well, he plunked, he plunked a
- 53:38rod and then we clear basis. Right.
- 53:40Right. I never use my drops because I'm
- 53:43sitting right here. If I want to say it, I'll just
- 53:45say it. I just use everybody.
- 53:47Else why, why, why would you do that when you have an arsenal of
- 53:50defense and then you have bubble gums?
- 53:51It's. Good for both of them.
- 53:53Slap that ass. All right, All right.
- 54:00We had to get everybody in. It's pretty.
- 54:01Simple. It's just.
- 54:02It's just the four. Of us right now so it's pretty
- 54:05simple ladies and gentlemen all you got to do is we're going to
- 54:08give you a story and we're going to tell you what it smells like
- 54:10it's it's pretty simple if you do this all the time we're going
- 54:12to go fish speedy Jabba me let's go for it.
- 54:17Bing, Bing, Bing. All right, speedy.
- 54:19If there's music, throw it on real quick for what's that
- 54:22smell? And guys, we know that the
- 54:25baseball, we started the show tonight with the MLB All Star
- 54:29game being naming its pitchers and reserves, but it had to be
- 54:34delayed for over 10 minutes because the cornhole
- 54:39championships were on ESPN. Yes, they we had to wait.
- 54:44Until cornhole, women's cornhole or I guess intergender or
- 54:50whatever men and women's cornhole team mixed double S
- 54:53mixed double S cornhole had to finish before we were able to
- 54:57get the All Star game. I I've seen things be preempted
- 55:01before. I've never seen cornhole preempt
- 55:06Major League Baseball. What does that smell like?
- 55:09It smells like the great cornhole.
- 55:10Leo didn't get enough teepee for his bunghole.
- 55:14All right, so I'm gonna, we had the Bill Belichick story and
- 55:17dial up. I'll go with a different Bill
- 55:19Belichick story and him and Deion Sanders not wanting to be
- 55:22featured in the new EA college football 26 video game.
- 55:26Deion Sanders wants all money in all other ways, including
- 55:29illegal Arabian stuff, but doesn't want that.
- 55:31And then who knows what his girlfriend said about what Bill
- 55:34Belichick's girlfriend said about not wanting his features.
- 55:36So if you remember some of the Maddens in the in the 2000s, you
- 55:40end up going by these very stereo, these very like generic
- 55:43coach names. All of a suddenly this is super
- 55:45random or New England coach or something like that for
- 55:47Belichick, Sean Payton was ended up being it for one year.
- 55:50So what does that smell like? It smells like a bunch of
- 55:53gremlins, or Travis Hunters, as Errol calls them, jumping into a
- 55:57barrel full of tar all. Right, that's an inside.
- 56:05Ground yeah, we're really going. I am going to go with.
- 56:10I don't know if you guys saw this, we didn't touch on it.
- 56:13We kind of touched on everything else that the Yankees, but I
- 56:16don't know if you guys saw it, but Anthony Volpe threw a ball
- 56:20and hit Aaron Judge in the face. Yeah, in between innings.
- 56:24In between innings, like there was a line drive to him.
- 56:26He turns and judges just running in.
- 56:29He throws the one up and it literally like it put a cut on
- 56:33his face. He came up to bat with a a
- 56:35Band-Aid or whatever. It was his next at bat.
- 56:38And I'm like, what? What the hell is going on right
- 56:40now? Like when when it rains, it
- 56:41pours. I go.
- 56:43That's just giving you giving Volpe a reason to take a hike.
- 56:46Could you imagine if something worse would have happened and
- 56:49the luck that judges had with injuries?
- 56:51I'm like, what, what, what are we doing here?
- 56:54Like, let's, let's not pour salt in the moon, Volpe that you know
- 56:57that it, it smells like you just crapped your pants because you
- 57:02saw your career just flash in front of your eyes.
- 57:05And you definitely diarrhea without dude wipes.
- 57:09Wow. As long as she's using dude
- 57:12wipes and taking care of my tum hole I'm good.
- 57:15He needed a whole package after that happened now.
- 57:17The question if if you had bubble guts, Jabba, what did
- 57:20Anthony Volt pay have? What does Anthony Volt Pay have
- 57:23right? Now, oh, could you imagine?
- 57:27Lick my butt you you would just. Think like your life is over.
- 57:30Oh, it's done. Like I would have walked.
- 57:32Literally to the clubhouse and just started packing my back at
- 57:35that point. This makes my pecker hard.
- 57:38Like, sorry, all right, sweet. I can't hit with anybody in
- 57:40scoring position. I'm making errors.
- 57:42I'm hitting 220. Let me just go ahead and pack it
- 57:44up. I'm going to go.
- 57:45What about you can hit Judge right in the face and it's
- 57:47right, Yeah, you can throw in. Just close.
- 57:51Maybe Volpe will follow it up with swinging at Alvin Kamara's
- 57:53first pitch. I hope not.
- 57:55Wouldn't. Surprise.
- 57:58Me All right, ladies and gentlemen, our final What's that
- 58:01smell? Goes to a very interesting lady.
- 58:04She has her own show, one of the biggest podcast in the country,
- 58:08Alex Cooper. She's the podcaster of Call Her
- 58:13Daddy. Alex Cooper appearance
- 58:15thoroughly enjoyed herself during the 7th inning stretch of
- 58:19Take Me Out to the Ball game. Not everyone on the hand of the
- 58:22Chicago Cubs game against the Saint Louis Cardinals seem to
- 58:26feel the same way about Call Her Daddy's podcast host.
- 58:30As she was singing Take Me Out to the Ball game as she forgot
- 58:35some words to Take Me Out to the ball game as she got booed at
- 58:42Wrigley Stadium. It was absolutely embarrassing.
- 58:44How do you not know the words to Take Me Out to the ball game?
- 58:47I think every single person, even non sports fans know the
- 58:52song Take Me Out to the Ball game and she was messing up on
- 58:56the word. She didn't even know the tune of
- 58:58the song. It was embarrassing.
- 59:00So what does that smell like? Well, it smells like Jabba's ass
- 59:04as he wipes his ass with Dude wipes, so there you go.
- 59:09Joey bag of Donuts over there. There you go, I hopefully we
- 59:12don't stick any Donuts in his ass, that's for sure.
- 59:15Especially if it's hungry anyways.
- 59:17No, we just, we just do Oreos. On this show, no.
- 59:19That's Mikey C. That's Mikey C That's Mikey C He
- 59:22does a lot of stupid things, but hopefully nobody gets to
- 59:26experience that. I I didn't, but I've heard
- 59:28stories, let me tell you from women that actually told me.
- 59:31These are true stories. Anyways, a thank you to Ben
- 59:34Lyons for joining us at Knicks NBATV insider contributor.
- 59:39He does a lot of stuff for the NBATV.
- 59:41So if you haven't checked them out, he's fantastic.
- 59:43So thank you for joining us and laughing with us and enjoying in
- 59:46hours, whatever it is right over there.
- 59:48The dozen of you know, Orioles in Mikey CS ass.
- 59:53As we all know, Carl doesn't like the old myth.
- 59:57Carl plays with himself. As we all know, he does.
- 1:00:00Anyways, thank you to Ben Lyons, thank you to all the fans on
- 1:00:03social media, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, all of them

- 1:00:19Who do we have on the show? Return to the show at 9:45 will
- 1:00:22be Phoenix Suns play by by broadcaster and Dallas Cowboys
- 1:00:25play by play broadcaster Kevin Ray.
- 1:00:27Oh, Kevin, he'll join us. And by the way, Kevin, I'm sure
- 1:00:29he has his own thoughts about George Pickens, as we heard CD
- 1:00:32Lamb and George Pickens on a broadcast recently and CD came
- 1:00:36out and I wouldn't have ever thought this to to be true.
- 1:00:39CD Lamb said there's no one or two, it's all once.
- 1:00:43And he says now you got to contend with two number ones on
- 1:00:47one roster. Well, we'll see how that works
- 1:00:49for the whole season when George Pickens doesn't see enough
- 1:00:51balls, especially up his ass. And if he does, maybe somebody's
- 1:00:54going to bend over and give him a nice little poutang pie, as
- 1:00:58Speedy would. Say that's why Kevante Turpin
- 1:01:00had to do what he did, because he knew he wasn't a #1.
- 1:01:03Oh, absolutely. By the way, Speedy, I haven't
- 1:01:05used this drop in a long time. Don't share a poutang pie with
- 1:01:08the rock. Anyways, that's it for our show,
- 1:01:10ladies and gentlemen. We'll be back with Nick Goody on
- 1:01:13Thursday. Hopefully Tommy feels better.
- 1:01:15He's pooping, he's scooping and let it dish out speedy as we
- 1:01:19dish got by to all the fans. By the way, thank you to our
- 1:01:22our, our, our social media people.

- 1:01:33Zach, Aaron, all the guys on our social media, all the writers on

- 1:01:40night. As I always say, Santa's not
