- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the Best of Stugatz & Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Taylor, put it on the poll, please. That's Stugatz790 on X.
- 0:23Speaker 1: When Kevin Stefanski says on the Falcons quarterback situation... not
- 0:29Speaker 1: ruling anyone out, is he including Matty Ice, Matt Ryan.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I mean, no one wants to play quarterback for that
- 0:35Speaker 1: football team. It is ridiculous. It's absurd. If I were
- 0:39Speaker 1: a quarterback, that would be one of the five or
- 0:41Speaker 1: ten teams I would want to play quarterback for. Is
- 0:43Speaker 1: that fair?
- 0:44Speaker 3: So I wish Brady wasn't in the Raiders ownership group
- 0:47Speaker 3: because this is a perfect opportunity for Brady to make
- 0:50Speaker 3: another comeback.
- 0:51Speaker 1: He might do it. But Matty Jones is going to
- 0:53Speaker 1: join us in about 15 minutes. We'll have T-Bob on.
- 0:56Speaker 1: In our number two, what do you have, Mikey? Why
- 0:58Speaker 1: are you wincing over there? I saw a wince.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Because the last time I think of Brady and the Falcons,
- 1:04Speaker 4: I think 28-3.
- 1:04Speaker 5: And I'm just wondering what that's going to look like
- 1:07Speaker 5: if Tom Brady were to come out of retirement to
- 1:10Speaker 5: then take the Falcons to the Super Bowl.
- 1:13Speaker 1: It'd be great. It would further ruin Bill Belichick's resume.
- 1:18Speaker 3: He doesn't need any help doing that.
- 1:19Speaker 1: He's doing it.
- 1:20Speaker 4: And Kyle Shanahan's.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Put it on the poll. Does Belichick need anyone's help
- 1:26Speaker 1: in ruining his resume uh listen it's wednesday wednesdays are
- 1:31Speaker 1: for baseball okay let's get reunited with baseball yes we
- 1:35Speaker 1: have missed baseball around here taylor mikey love the yankees
- 1:38Speaker 1: yankees are playing well now right yeah taylor yeah they're.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Playing decent i mean they're they're beating up on the
- 1:42Speaker 3: twins like the yankees beat up on the twins no
- 1:45Speaker 3: matter what like bad seasons great seasons world series seasons
- 1:49Speaker 3: the yankees have the twins number they.
- 1:51Speaker 5: Do yes I'm just curious, now that we're fully into
- 1:55Speaker 5: football season, college football season, NFL season, Taylor's softball league started.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Taylor, are you still a 160 tour?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Without question, a 160 tour.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I question it now. I do, because there's too much
- 2:09Speaker 1: football on.
- 2:10Speaker 6: I mean.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I got three TVs in the living room. Three TVs,
- 2:14Speaker 3: a laptop, and a phone.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Is one of those televisions just for the Yankees?
- 2:18Speaker 6: Yes.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I call it the command center when I get to
- 2:20Speaker 3: my apartment.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You don't put it on unless the Yankees are on.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Is that fair?
- 2:23Speaker 5: Yep.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Michael K is the only one I want to hear
- 2:27Speaker 3: from that TV.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Put it on the poll. Does Taylor's TV have pinstripes?
- 2:32Speaker 1: You have them on the screen. Is that what you're saying?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 2:37Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Let's talk about the Mets. And why would we discuss
- 2:41Speaker 1: the New York Mets? I was shocked this morning to
- 2:44Speaker 1: wake up to a text from my friend, from my brother,
- 2:49Speaker 1: both of which are Mets fans, sending me the video.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Peter Alonzo's 300th home run. He did it at city field.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He is now a member of the Orioles, but he's
- 2:58Speaker 1: a legendary New York Met. Met fans love him. Met
- 3:01Speaker 1: fans did not want him to leave New York. They
- 3:04Speaker 1: wanted him to stay there. And so I was surprised
- 3:07Speaker 1: and alarmed that both my brother and my friend, both
- 3:10Speaker 1: big time Met fans like I am, they were upset
- 3:13Speaker 1: at Met fans for having the audacity to give Peter
- 3:17Speaker 1: Alonzo a a standing ovation and cheer for him and
- 3:21Speaker 1: boo their own players, by the way. But Peter Alonzo
- 3:24Speaker 1: hit his 300th home run at city field. It was
- 3:27Speaker 1: a great moment. And I don't mind if Mets fans
- 3:30Speaker 1: wanted to cheer. They've had nothing to cheer about for years.
- 3:34Speaker 3: So this has been a series that Mets fans have
- 3:36Speaker 3: had circled this entire, this entire season with Pete Alonzo
- 3:40Speaker 3: coming back to Queens. I don't think any Mets fans
- 3:43Speaker 3: saw how bad this season could have possibly gone for them.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I do think this is one of the most bizarre
- 3:48Speaker 3: situations where you're going to see in baseball between a
- 3:51Speaker 3: fan base and a former player where Monday, Stu, I
- 3:54Speaker 3: was kind of on your side saying, okay, let Pete
- 3:56Speaker 3: Alonzo get his flowers. He was a great Met. David
- 3:59Speaker 3: Stearns messed up the entire free agency process, not even
- 4:02Speaker 3: offering him a contract. Pete Alonzo goes to Baltimore.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:07Speaker 3: He gets the ovation there. I started to have a
- 4:10Speaker 3: problem when he got walked, and they're booing Jonah Tong,
- 4:14Speaker 3: one of their young upcoming pitchers.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Despite the fact that Jonah Tong pitched six scoreless innings.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yeah, who cares? The game is meaningless. I mean, it
- 4:24Speaker 1: doesn't matter. They'd rather see Peter Alonzo hit a 300th
- 4:28Speaker 1: home run at Citi Field than see the Mets win
- 4:30Speaker 1: a meaningless game.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's going a little bit too far when
- 4:35Speaker 3: you start booing your own players. So that was Monday.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Tuesday.
- 4:40Speaker 6: Yes.
- 4:41Speaker 3: I think Tuesday the Mets fans lost me because you're
- 4:44Speaker 3: leading 3-2 in the ninth inning. And I get it.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I get the Mets are relevant this season. They're 69-82. Yes.
- 4:53Speaker 3: When you're winning by one in the ninth inning and
- 4:56Speaker 3: Pete Alonzo comes up and Cody Senga is going for
- 4:59Speaker 3: the save.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Uh-huh.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And then you have this reaction when Pete Alonzo absolutely
- 5:05Speaker 3: crushes the ball.
- 5:06Speaker 1: 60 feet, six inches away now. It's a high fly ball.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That ball is long gone.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Home run history in Pete Alonzo's city field.
- 5:23Speaker 1: That's what the fans.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Came to see right there. They came to see the.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Polar bear leave the yard. 264 career home runs here
- 5:32Speaker 1: with the Mets, and that is number 300.
- 5:38Speaker 3: So that sound came courtesy of the Orioles broadcast on Masson.
- 5:42Speaker 1: On Masson, yes.
- 5:44Speaker 3: In city field, that sounds like a postseason game. Like
- 5:46Speaker 3: if you just told me, hey, guess when this game was,
- 5:49Speaker 3: I'd probably guess the World Series with that reaction.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I was at 86 game six. It was louder for
- 5:53Speaker 1: that home run than it was 86 game six. How
- 5:56Speaker 1: about that? Against the Red Sox. And Peter Alonso deserved it.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And the announcer is exactly right. He gave the fans
- 6:04Speaker 1: what the fans came there to see. They didn't come
- 6:06Speaker 1: to see their team that's 15 games below 500. They
- 6:10Speaker 1: came to see a Met great, a Met legend hit
- 6:14Speaker 1: his 300th home run in his field, in his stadium,
- 6:18Speaker 1: city field, the house that Pete Alonso built.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Taylor i think this is a product of you being
- 6:25Speaker 5: a yankee fan and not a fan of a team
- 6:27Speaker 5: like say the jets yeah because this is all they
- 6:31Speaker 5: have who cares about winning a game and being 28
- 6:35Speaker 5: games under 500 instead of 29 this is all about
- 6:39Speaker 5: and he wanted to stay he was beloved.
- 6:42Speaker 6: This is this i would have cheered I would have
- 6:45Speaker 6: cheered if I was a Met fan.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yes, and boo the pitchers all you want. I mean,
- 6:48Speaker 1: give the fans what they came there to see, okay?
- 6:50Speaker 1: They didn't come to see Senga. They didn't come to
- 6:53Speaker 1: see him get their 70th win of the season. They
- 6:55Speaker 1: were all there. The reason they have the attendance that
- 6:57Speaker 1: they have for this series is because they wanted to
- 7:00Speaker 1: see that moment, and they got it. You have to
- 7:02Speaker 1: toss up softballs if you're the pitchers. I mean, geez.
- 7:05Speaker 6: Boo these pitchers. If they were better, we wouldn't be
- 7:08Speaker 6: in this situation.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Giving an opposing player a standing ovation after he just
- 7:14Speaker 3: tied the game against your team in the ninth inning
- 7:19Speaker 3: is crazy.
- 7:20Speaker 1: He's not an opposing player.
- 7:22Speaker 6: That's where I disagree.
- 7:23Speaker 1: No, he's a Met. He's a Met lifer. He might
- 7:26Speaker 1: be in an Oriole uniform, but to the Met fans,
- 7:28Speaker 1: he's still a Met. And he should still be a
- 7:30Speaker 1: Met because he didn't want to leave. The fans didn't
- 7:33Speaker 1: want him to leave. The only people who wanted him
- 7:35Speaker 1: to leave was ownership. That's it. I mean, and so
- 7:38Speaker 1: Peter Alonso came back and gave the fans, he gave
- 7:42Speaker 1: them a moment. They haven't had a moment for two seasons,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and Peter Alonso gave them something that meant a lot
- 7:50Speaker 1: to those fans. I am happy for them. I'm proud
- 7:53Speaker 1: of Met fans for booing their own players.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Taylor, I don't know what your problem is, man. This
- 8:02Speaker 4: was everything.
- 8:03Speaker 5: This was everything about being a fan of a guy
- 8:06Speaker 5: who gave his entire, and the ownership wanted him gone
- 8:10Speaker 5: so that they could build some winner, and all they
- 8:12Speaker 5: did is finish 20-something games under.
- 8:15Speaker 6: 500 so far.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So I'm driving around this morning. I'm getting agitated because
- 8:18Speaker 1: Evan Cohen's talking about it, and he's making a big
- 8:20Speaker 1: deal about it, and people are asking him, hey, did
- 8:22Speaker 1: you root for Brady because he's a big Patriot fan?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Were you rooting for Brady, cheering for Brady when he
- 8:28Speaker 1: went to Tampa and won a Super Bowl? That is
- 8:30Speaker 1: not an apples-to-apples discussion. You're not doing that. If Brady
- 8:35Speaker 1: came home to Foxborough and broke the all-time passing yardage record, okay?
- 8:40Speaker 1: in a benign game against, I don't know, the New
- 8:43Speaker 1: York Jets. I mean, against the Patriots. He's playing for
- 8:46Speaker 1: Tampa Bay. Then you cheer for him. Of course you
- 8:48Speaker 1: give him a standing ovation. He's a Patriot great. The
- 8:51Speaker 1: fans love him. I don't care what Belichick thinks about him.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You give that guy his flowers. Why not?
- 8:56Speaker 3: It's one thing to give him his flowers. It's another
- 8:59Speaker 3: thing to be rooting for Tom Brady to go on
- 9:03Speaker 3: a drive against your team and put the final nail
- 9:06Speaker 3: in the coffin. I don't care if the Patriots were
- 9:09Speaker 3: 5-12 in this situation. I don't care if the Patriots
- 9:12Speaker 3: were 12-5 in this situation. If you want to do
- 9:16Speaker 3: the fire Stearns chance, okay, I'm for that because I
- 9:20Speaker 3: do think Stearns has been a pretty big disaster for
- 9:22Speaker 3: the Mets.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But don't say.
- 9:25Speaker 3: What you're doing is protesting the Mets because you know
- 9:28Speaker 3: how you actually protest the Mets? You stay at home.
- 9:31Speaker 3: The moment you walk through that turnstile, news flashed.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Guess what?
- 9:35Speaker 3: You're not protesting the Mets. You gave the Mets your money.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:37Speaker 1: You're a Mets fan rooting for a guy that you
- 9:39Speaker 1: wanted to still be playing in Citi Field. A guy
- 9:43Speaker 1: that never should have left New York. That's who they're
- 9:46Speaker 1: rooting for. Why would they root for this team when
- 9:48Speaker 1: they can root for a guy that makes them feel
- 9:50Speaker 1: good at a moment that makes them feel great?
- 9:53Speaker 3: The one part that I do disagree with was Francisco
- 9:56Speaker 3: Lindor after Monday.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Where he said Alonzo deserved the love, but... added that
- 10:00Speaker 3: Mets need to give their their pitcher a little more
- 10:03Speaker 3: love Jonah tongue because the Mets were still trying to
- 10:05Speaker 3: win a game yeah Francisco Lindor, this is a case
- 10:08Speaker 3: where Francisco Lindor is on my side, but I'm looking
- 10:11Speaker 3: at Francisco Lindor and saying, hey, I don't want you
- 10:12Speaker 3: on my side.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Right, shut up.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Because you're part of the problem. You're part of the
- 10:16Speaker 3: reason why this Mets team is so bad.
- 10:17Speaker 1: The reason they're so lousy and the reason they're yearning
- 10:20Speaker 1: for that moment is because you're so bad.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 10:30Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific
- 10:34Speaker 2: on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 10:40Speaker 1: T-Bob going to join us in about 10 minutes. He's
- 10:42Speaker 1: in Chicago. We'll ask him about Kayla Williams. He has
- 10:44Speaker 1: to be lathered up for this weekend's game. My God,
- 10:48Speaker 1: he's going to be extra spicy today. Is he not, Mikey?
- 10:50Speaker 1: I mean, he's got LSU and he's got Mississippi coming up.
- 10:53Speaker 1: And that man went to LSU.
- 10:55Speaker 4: I'm going to try and get him mad.
- 10:58Speaker 1: You can't. But Monty Jones, he's on my Mount Rushmore
- 11:03Speaker 1: of guests of this radio show. He's fantastic. He's unbelievable.
- 11:07Speaker 1: He asked a question. Mikey wants to discuss it here
- 11:10Speaker 1: in just a second. We did not want to waste
- 11:12Speaker 1: his time with the Peter Alonzo conversation because that's exactly
- 11:18Speaker 1: what it is. A waste of Bomani's time. He has
- 11:21Speaker 1: no time to discuss whether fans should give a standing
- 11:24Speaker 1: ovation to a former Met when he comes back to
- 11:27Speaker 1: Citi Field and hits a home run in a meaningless
- 11:30Speaker 1: regular season game. Because he's brilliant and smart. We are not.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So we will continue... to discuss that, all right? Taylor, Mikey,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I am shocked by Taylor's take on this, where he
- 11:41Speaker 1: is upset with Met fans for having the audacity to
- 11:45Speaker 1: cheer for Peter Alonso and boo their own pitchers because
- 11:48Speaker 1: they're intentionally walking Alonso and not giving them their feel-good,
- 11:53Speaker 1: or at least an opportunity at them to have some feel-good.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Not only am I mad at Mets fans, I'm mad
- 11:58Speaker 3: at Peter Alonso for going out and accepting the curtain call. Like,
- 12:01Speaker 3: nobody made Peter Alonso go out and accept the curtain call.
- 12:04Speaker 1: He has to. What do you mean?
- 12:07Speaker 3: What, somebody shoved him out of the dugout?
- 12:09Speaker 6: Yes.
- 12:13Speaker 1: So let me try this out, Mikey, okay? Aaron Judge,
- 12:17Speaker 1: is he as beloved by Yankee fans as Peter Alonso
- 12:20Speaker 1: is by Mets fans?
- 12:23Speaker 2: More.
- 12:23Speaker 6: Yes.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I would say more.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:24Speaker 6: No, I wouldn't say more.
- 12:26Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:27Speaker 5: All right.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Equal.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Push. All right.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I hate the fact that I also call him Peter
- 12:30Speaker 3: Alonzo because you call him Peter Alonzo.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yes, it's Pete.
- 12:33Speaker 1: It's Pete. It's the polar bear is what it is.
- 12:35Speaker 1: His friends call him Peter. I am his friend. I
- 12:38Speaker 1: love that man. He provided me with one moment of
- 12:42Speaker 1: feel good. Let me try this out, though. Aaron Judge, okay,
- 12:46Speaker 1: late in his career, somehow winds up in Texas, okay,
- 12:51Speaker 1: and he needs one home run To break the all-time
- 12:54Speaker 1: home run record. And he does it at Yankee Stadium
- 12:57Speaker 1: as a Texas Ranger in a meaningless game. Yankees are
- 13:00Speaker 1: having a bad season. If they win the game, it
- 13:03Speaker 1: gets them to 70-82. Okay? Are you not giving Aaron Judge?
- 13:08Speaker 1: Go ahead, Mikey, before I finish.
- 13:10Speaker 5: It's not even the Texas Rangers. It's more like the
- 13:12Speaker 5: Cincinnati Reds. It's an irrelevant team from the other conference.
- 13:18Speaker 1: It's interleague.
- 13:19Speaker 6: For the other league.
- 13:19Speaker 1: It's interleague.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:22Speaker 3: If it means my team is losing, I am not
- 13:26Speaker 3: rooting for Aaron Judge. There's no way in that moment.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I am rooting for whoever is pitching for the Yankees
- 13:32Speaker 3: at that point to strike Aaron Judge looking three pitches
- 13:36Speaker 3: down the middle.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I understand that. You're not rooting for the Yankees to lose,
- 13:40Speaker 1: but if he indeed hits the home run, you're going
- 13:42Speaker 1: to give him a standing ovation.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I'll give him a golf clap.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Really? Really. You look around first to see how everyone
- 13:48Speaker 1: else is acting.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I wouldn't even consider standing up.
- 13:50Speaker 1: You look to your left. You look to your right.
- 13:52Speaker 1: You let someone else make that decision for you is
- 13:54Speaker 1: what you do, right? I mean, you do.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Jalen Brunson back at the garden playing for Memphis hits
- 14:00Speaker 5: a three.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Yes. To, to, to win the game. Yes. For Memphis.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:05Speaker 6: Against the Knicks. Right.
- 14:06Speaker 4: In a season that the Knicks are, have been out
- 14:08Speaker 4: of the playoffs.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Forever, which is why they got rid of Brunson.
- 14:11Speaker 6: You're not cheering for Jalen Brunson.
- 14:13Speaker 1: He changed your life. Yes.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Say you're not cheering for him.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Close your eyes.
- 14:17Speaker 6: All those songs away.
- 14:18Speaker 3: If Jalen Brunson walks into Madison Square Garden with a
- 14:22Speaker 3: Memphis Grizzlies jersey, I am not rooting for anything him
- 14:28Speaker 3: to do.
- 14:29Speaker 1: To beat the Knicks.
- 14:31Speaker 3: He changed my life, but the second he's not on
- 14:34Speaker 3: the Knicks, I'm not rooting for him to beat the Knicks.
- 14:37Speaker 3: There's one example that I could think of in the
- 14:39Speaker 3: history of New York sports where Yankee fans gave a
- 14:43Speaker 3: standing ovation for somebody not on their team.
- 14:44Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Tino Martinez in 2003 returned to the Bronx. He was
- 14:51Speaker 3: on the St. Louis Cardinals, June 14th, basically a meaningless
- 14:54Speaker 3: game in June.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Tino Martinez hits a home run in the game. Yankee
- 14:59Speaker 3: fans applaud the home run. Mm-hmm. It was a home
- 15:02Speaker 3: run when the Yankees were up 4-0. So the home
- 15:06Speaker 3: run makes it 4-2 in the second inning. In the
- 15:08Speaker 3: ninth inning, with the game clearly out of reach, it's 13-2.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Tino comes up, hits another home run. His second home
- 15:15Speaker 3: run of the game makes the score 13-4. That's convenient.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I mean— Then the Yankee fans gave him a standing ovation.
- 15:22Speaker 3: And at that point, it's 13-4. The game's very clearly
- 15:26Speaker 3: out of reach. Tino Martinez, thank you for your service.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Thank you for being an integral part of these Yankee dynasties. Okay,
- 15:33Speaker 3: then we give him the standing ovation. If the situation
- 15:35Speaker 3: was it's 4-3, Tino Martinez comes up. He hits a
- 15:39Speaker 3: home run to tie the game. We're going into extra innings.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:42Speaker 3: To give that guy a standing ovation, my brain can't
- 15:46Speaker 3: even compute how you give that guy a standing ovation.
- 15:48Speaker 1: What if Tino does that, though, and your team is
- 15:50Speaker 1: 14 games below. 500? Who cares? I mean, who cares?
- 15:55Speaker 1: I care. Yeah. I don't. Cheer for Peter Alonso. You've
- 16:01Speaker 1: had nothing else to cheer for the entire two seasons. Two. Anyway,
- 16:06Speaker 1: what was the question that Balmani asked during that interview, Mikey,
- 16:09Speaker 1: that piqued your curiosity?
- 16:12Speaker 5: Bomani asked us what is the most we've ever paid
- 16:16Speaker 5: for something and then didn't use it and then was
- 16:19Speaker 5: okay with not using it. And it just made me
- 16:22Speaker 5: look at the whole Browns quarterback situation completely different because
- 16:27Speaker 5: I'm like, you know what?
- 16:28Speaker 6: If I paid that much money, I don't care.
- 16:31Speaker 5: I'm running him out there because like I bought Yankee
- 16:34Speaker 5: tickets months ago and it is a day that I
- 16:37Speaker 5: have zero ability to go to this game and I'd
- 16:40Speaker 5: be too mad not to go.
- 16:42Speaker 1: It's a great question. It was a great question by
- 16:44Speaker 1: Bomani Jones. The answer is Tua, whatever they're paying Tua.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Whatever the Dolphins are paying Tua to not use him.
- 16:52Speaker 1: That is the answer, I think.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:54Speaker 1: It's like one hundred million dollars.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, Mikey, I think my answer for this question was
- 16:58Speaker 3: I one time bought a video game for like eighty
- 17:00Speaker 3: dollars and then I played it one time and I
- 17:02Speaker 3: was like, man, this game is kind of a dud.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I don't really mind losing the $ 80 here.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Yeah, but his larger point is you go ahead and
- 17:08Speaker 1: pay Deshaun Watson that much money and not use him.
- 17:12Speaker 5: It just, I mean, it must irk him so much
- 17:16Speaker 5: because I am so mad about.
- 17:17Speaker 4: This $ 100 I spent.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Right. And I'm like, I didn't spend $ 240 million on something.
- 17:25Speaker 1: But Tua is the answer, right? I mean... I guess
- 17:28Speaker 1: that's the Dolphins' answer.
- 17:29Speaker 6: You didn't pay anything for Tua. What is that? It's you.
- 17:34Speaker 6: You're right.
- 17:34Speaker 1: The Dolphins are not the answer. That was a dumb
- 17:36Speaker 1: response by me.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 17:39Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Pacific. Yep. T-Bob was pretty fired up.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I mean, smell the gumbo from here.
- 17:50Speaker 1: He is so excited for LSU and Mississippi. I'm surprised
- 17:55Speaker 1: he's not going to the game. He's got the in-laws
- 17:57Speaker 1: coming over. They'll watch the kids. He'll watch the game
- 18:00Speaker 1: on his TV. We'll get to something Ryan Fitzpatrick said
- 18:03Speaker 1: in just a second here. But Taylor keeps telling me
- 18:06Speaker 1: there's some sort of elimination game. It's week two in
- 18:08Speaker 1: the NFL and we have an elimination game. What is
- 18:12Speaker 1: happening here, Taylor?
- 18:14Speaker 3: I think this is the first elimination. I'm ready to
- 18:16Speaker 3: call it. One of these two teams is being eliminated
- 18:19Speaker 3: this this week.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Yes. By the way, a funny part of the Mets
- 18:23Speaker 1: conversation is you eliminated them from playoff contention the second
- 18:27Speaker 1: week of the season.
- 18:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:29Speaker 3: The only problem with that is I think I also
- 18:31Speaker 3: said the White Sox got eliminated, too, just because I
- 18:34Speaker 3: was like. I was just trying to go for the
- 18:36Speaker 3: joke there, and I was like, who's a baseball team
- 18:37Speaker 3: that stinks? Oh, the White Sox always stink, and then
- 18:39Speaker 3: the White Sox are the surprise team.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Yes, but you now realize why Mets fans were cheering
- 18:43Speaker 1: for Peter Alonso. You eliminated them from playoff contention 14
- 18:47Speaker 1: days into the season.
- 18:48Speaker 3: I was dead on. I smelled those bad vibes from
- 18:52Speaker 3: a mile away. Every time Francisco Lindor pouts, every time...
- 18:55Speaker 3: Juan Soto does something good. There's something there with Francisco
- 18:58Speaker 3: Lindor running people off in New York.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yes, you were dead on and the fans were dead
- 19:02Speaker 1: on for giving Peter Alonso a standing ovation. Anyway, where
- 19:06Speaker 1: were you with this elimination game? Sorry, I can't speak.
- 19:09Speaker 3: There's an elimination game this week in the NFL, week two,
- 19:12Speaker 3: where I'm going to cross off with Penn, one of
- 19:15Speaker 3: these two teams, whoever loses.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Wow. Wow.
- 19:18Speaker 3: It's the 0-1 Commanders versus the 0-1 Dallas Cowboys.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Loser leaves town.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Wow.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Loser leaves town. Well, they're going to leave town.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Yes.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I mean, one of the teams, well, if the road
- 19:27Speaker 1: team loses, they have to. Win or lose, the road
- 19:29Speaker 1: team has.
- 19:30Speaker 6: To leave town.
- 19:30Speaker 3: The commanders are leaving town no matter what. Yes. Because
- 19:33Speaker 3: the game is in Dallas.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So if the Cowboys lose, they also have to leave
- 19:36Speaker 1: their hometown of Dallas?
- 19:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Because I don't think either of these two teams, when
- 19:42Speaker 3: you're looking at the NFC East, I don't think either,
- 19:45Speaker 3: because both their week one losses were also to divisional opponents.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I don't think either of these two teams could afford
- 19:51Speaker 3: to go 0-2 in division when you would consider that
- 19:54Speaker 3: the Giants should be a lot better this year after
- 19:57Speaker 3: their week one showing.
- 19:58Speaker 2: And we.
- 19:59Speaker 3: We feel pretty confident that the Eagles are going to
- 20:01Speaker 3: be there at the end of the season.
- 20:02Speaker 1: So you're saying whoever loses this game, you are officially
- 20:05Speaker 1: eliminating from playoff contention.
- 20:07Speaker 6: Done. Yes.
- 20:09Speaker 3: After before week one, I had the Cowboys as my
- 20:12Speaker 3: pick to win the NFC East and my pick to
- 20:14Speaker 3: be in the NFC Championship.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I feel like there have been many teams who have
- 20:17Speaker 1: started the season 0-2 and probably made it to the
- 20:19Speaker 1: Super Bowl or won a Super Bowl. I'm not saying
- 20:21Speaker 1: that's the case here. Go ahead, Mike.
- 20:24Speaker 5: The 2007 New York Giants who started 0-2 in that division.
- 20:28Speaker 1: By the way. Oh, what, 19 years ago?
- 20:29Speaker 3: Your gotcha, Mikey, was 19 years ago?
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but an 0-2 is due.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Fine.
- 20:42Speaker 1: We'll take it. It will make the game more exciting
- 20:43Speaker 1: for me if I have in my mind that the
- 20:46Speaker 1: loser has to leave town, even though the road team
- 20:49Speaker 1: has to leave town, win or lose. All right. It's
- 20:52Speaker 1: a little too early, I think, for a Thursday night
- 20:53Speaker 1: game of this magnitude. Do you guys agree?
- 20:56Speaker 3: It does feel like that because you have Lions at Bills.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:00Speaker 6: And it's a great game.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It's a great such a good game.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Yes.
- 21:03Speaker 3: I get that you need the big opponent in Detroit
- 21:06Speaker 3: when you're opening the stadium for the first time, having
- 21:09Speaker 3: this primetime debut at the Bills' new stadium. But this
- 21:12Speaker 3: almost feels like a week 12 like Super Bowl preview
- 21:16Speaker 3: instead of like a week two. We're still working out
- 21:18Speaker 3: the kinks of both these teams.
- 21:19Speaker 6: Yes.
- 21:20Speaker 1: On a Thursday night. I need it, though. I miss
- 21:22Speaker 1: football already. I know I said I was tired after
- 21:25Speaker 1: all the games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. But now
- 21:28Speaker 1: I'm craving it again. I need it now. Took a nap.
- 21:32Speaker 6: I'm good now.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Put it back on. We talk some baseball. I'm ready
- 21:36Speaker 1: to transition back to the NFL and college football. What
- 21:40Speaker 1: did Ryan Fitzpatrick have to say about the Dolphins here, Taylor?
- 21:45Speaker 3: Ex-Dolphins quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick.
- 21:47Speaker 1: He's an ex-everyone quarterback.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yes.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 3: What team do you associate him with the most?
- 21:52Speaker 1: The Bills.
- 21:53Speaker 3: The Bills for me.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah, the Bills. Yeah, the Bills.
- 21:55Speaker 6: I think that was the only place where they signed
- 21:57Speaker 6: him to start.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Right. Yes, they wanted him. Yes. He was not a
- 22:01Speaker 1: backup plan, an emergency quarterback. He was the guy.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:04Speaker 3: So Fitz said, 0-17 season is within reach for Miami.
- 22:10Speaker 3: It's a real possibility.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:12Speaker 3: So that got me thinking, do you guys think it's
- 22:14Speaker 3: more likely a team goes 17-0 this season?
- 22:17Speaker 1: More likely.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Or a team goes, well, if Mikey was asking, it
- 22:20Speaker 3: would be more likely. Is it more likely a team
- 22:23Speaker 3: goes 17-0 this season or a team goes 0-17?
- 22:26Speaker 1: So the team that everyone thought was going to go
- 22:28Speaker 1: 17-0 is already 0-1.
- 22:33Speaker 3: And one of the teams you probably thought could go
- 22:34Speaker 3: 0-17 is 1-0, the New York Jets.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and there are two, right, that's a good one.
- 22:39Speaker 1: And there are two especially bad teams this year in
- 22:42Speaker 1: the NFL. The Dolphins are one of them and the
- 22:45Speaker 1: Browns are the other. Is there another team that you
- 22:48Speaker 1: could see going 17-0? Because I think the answer is 0-17. Plus,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you have the entire NFC South. I'm trying to think.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Is there a team besides the Rams... that you guys
- 23:05Speaker 1: feel confident enough to say, hey, that team could go
- 23:08Speaker 1: 17-0 because I don't see one.
- 23:10Speaker 2: No.
- 23:10Speaker 3: If I went to sleep in a coma and you
- 23:13Speaker 3: woke me up at the end of the season and
- 23:14Speaker 3: you said, who went 17-0, I would guess the Ravens
- 23:17Speaker 3: and the Bills. And I wouldn't be surprised if either
- 23:21Speaker 3: one of those two teams went undefeated.
- 23:23Speaker 5: I mean.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Just because of the level of quarterback play that you're
- 23:25Speaker 3: getting from those two.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I mean, it's special, yes. But, you know, there have
- 23:29Speaker 1: been other teams with special quarterbacks who have not gone 17-0.
- 23:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 1: The amazing thing about the Dolphins.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Those teams have had those quarterbacks and not gone 17-0.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yes, Ricardo will tell you this. The amazing thing about
- 23:38Speaker 1: the undefeated Dolphins is they did it with Earl Morrill.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I mean, he was the backup to Bob Greasy. A
- 23:46Speaker 1: winless team. God, the Dolphins were so close one year.
- 23:49Speaker 1: So the Dolphins would be the first undefeated team, the
- 23:53Speaker 1: only undefeated team in NFL history.
- 23:55Speaker 3: The first defeated team.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Oh, yes, yes, yes. They would get it at both ends. Yes,
- 24:01Speaker 1: the only undefeated team and the only winless team in
- 24:04Speaker 1: NFL history.
