- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites the podcast from the Volume Podcast Network.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I am Chad Millman of the Action Network, joined as
- 0:21Speaker 1: always by my bff, my companion, professional Better New Jersey's finest,
- 0:28Speaker 1: Mr Simon Hunter. What's going on, brother, Chad? Chad, Chad?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Look at us? Just a couple of menches cutting it up,
- 0:37Speaker 1: a couple of multimillionaires having a laugh together. What a
- 0:40Speaker 1: life we live, buddy? What a life we live? Simon
- 0:43Speaker 1: is referring to the fact that yesterday, the Action Network,
- 0:47Speaker 1: which we launched in January of two thousand eighteen to
- 0:52Speaker 1: be the premier sports betting media and product company in
- 1:00Speaker 1: the world, serving sports bettors wherever they are. However, we
- 1:05Speaker 1: can through our award winning app, through our award winning podcasts,
- 1:09Speaker 1: through our award winning content from people like Chris Raban
- 1:14Speaker 1: and Sehawan Corner, but not people like Matthew Friedman. Yesterday
- 1:19Speaker 1: we were sold to a company called Better Collective, which
- 1:23Speaker 1: is a publicly traded European company that focuses on the
- 1:28Speaker 1: betting and affiliate space in Europe. They're looking to continue
- 1:32Speaker 1: to grow in the US. They bought The Action Network
- 1:35Speaker 1: for two hundred and forty million dollars. It's been exciting
- 1:38Speaker 1: news at Action. We uh told the team yesterday at
- 1:43Speaker 1: three o'clock. The news broke shortly thereafter in the Wall
- 1:46Speaker 1: Street Journal. Um not sharing anything that that people can't
- 1:49Speaker 1: look up themselves, obviously super exciting for everybody at Action.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Super exciting too. You know, so many of the people
- 1:58Speaker 1: at Action have been here for an extended period of
- 2:01Speaker 1: time and been uh so integrillingto dedicating themselves to building
- 2:07Speaker 1: this three years later, to sell for for that kind
- 2:10Speaker 1: of money is just astonishing and surreal and exciting and
- 2:16Speaker 1: you know, really good news. You know, we're overwhelmed by
- 2:18Speaker 1: it a little bit. But the good news is that
- 2:22Speaker 1: we get to keep operating our content the way we've
- 2:25Speaker 1: been doing it. Podcast doesn't change, the content we're putting out,
- 2:28Speaker 1: doesn't change how we will do our jobs day to day.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Creating doesn't change. So for listeners, it's you know, the
- 2:34Speaker 1: same as always, and that's you know, fundamentally awesome. I
- 2:38Speaker 1: think just instead of instead of you been a couple
- 2:41Speaker 1: of thousands, because back a couple hundred thousand now, so
- 2:43Speaker 1: it's just a little different, but the content, of course
- 2:46Speaker 1: will be the same. Mean, Chad still want to win money.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We still got in that free men here. He wants
- 2:50Speaker 1: to win his props. Nothing's changed and we all just
- 2:52Speaker 1: want to win money. So just a crazy day, man,
- 2:55Speaker 1: I can't get overright. I just would love to know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: how do you even sleep? Like when I on Thursday
- 2:59Speaker 1: night after that as I couldn't sleep. I was just
- 3:01Speaker 1: so amped up. I didn't go to bed to like
- 3:03Speaker 1: five six in the morning. Like what do you do
- 3:05Speaker 1: like last night? Do you just drink until you can
- 3:07Speaker 1: pass out? Like I don't even get how you could
- 3:08Speaker 1: sleep after a day like that. We keep mentioning Matthew Freeman.
- 3:11Speaker 1: He is on the podcast as well. He's patiently waiting
- 3:14Speaker 1: to be invited into the conversation. Of course, he is
- 3:18Speaker 1: our draft expert who made nearly three draft bets and
- 3:21Speaker 1: put him in the app and had a successful, amazingly
- 3:25Speaker 1: successful run during the draft. Freeman, You're welcome to interject
- 3:28Speaker 1: at any time. Uma, as we know, the less I talk,
- 3:33Speaker 1: the better things tend to go. In fact, I'm amazed
- 3:35Speaker 1: at my presence and the company didn't kill the deal.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I was a little bit worried about that. You know
- 3:40Speaker 1: that maybe we would never be able to sell the
- 3:42Speaker 1: company because Freedman was employed here, So I'm glad to
- 3:46Speaker 1: know that I was not the impediment. It was close, though,
- 3:49Speaker 1: believe me, it was very It was very close. They
- 3:51Speaker 1: reviewed every contract there and they were like, it feels like,
- 3:55Speaker 1: compared to the output, compared to the quality, this guy
- 3:58Speaker 1: not really pulling his weight. I'm like, listen, I don't
- 4:01Speaker 1: tell you likely he came with the with one of
- 4:06Speaker 1: the companies we bought when we formed when we formed Action.
- 4:09Speaker 1: For two years, I didn't even really know what he
- 4:11Speaker 1: was doing or that he was working here. It was
- 4:12Speaker 1: pretty inconsequential. And then all of a sudden, everybody kept saying, freemuch,
- 4:16Speaker 1: trying this, free much, trying this. I'm like, who what
- 4:19Speaker 1: is he doing? And then now we're here, and you know,
- 4:23Speaker 1: you're stuck with us for a little while longer. Last
- 4:25Speaker 1: night I worked until like six, returning phone calls, catching
- 4:30Speaker 1: up with people I tried to. You know, I slacked
- 4:34Speaker 1: a lot of folks on the team. I had phone
- 4:35Speaker 1: calls with a lot of folks on the team. We
- 4:37Speaker 1: had questions. I was returning, like you know, buddies texting
- 4:42Speaker 1: me like, dude, what the funk just happened? This is insane.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Then I went downstairs. My wife had picked up dinner,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and she goes, she goes, she goes, she went to
- 4:53Speaker 1: one of my favorite restaurants in West Herford. Where do
- 4:55Speaker 1: we live? She goes, I just want you to know
- 4:57Speaker 1: I used gift cards for dinner, uh, which I laughed.
- 5:01Speaker 1: We had a couple of drinks. I continued to return
- 5:03Speaker 1: texts and calls, and then I just I was spent,
- 5:07Speaker 1: man like got in bed ready to just watch like
- 5:11Speaker 1: one show and the only show I wanted to watch.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It turns out we were caught up. It was the
- 5:14Speaker 1: it was mayor of Eastown, and so I just sat
- 5:17Speaker 1: in better, returning emails and texts on that it wasn't
- 5:19Speaker 1: even that exciting of a night, and I had one
- 5:21Speaker 1: too many drinks and it made me pass out. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 1: it sounds a great night chat. I have a question.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Do you find that you are the type of person
- 5:28Speaker 1: who doesn't know how to celebrate well, like like like once,
- 5:32Speaker 1: like once there's something big that happens, you don't feel
- 5:35Speaker 1: the euphoria that you think you would feel. It's just
- 5:39Speaker 1: sort of like, all right, Uh, that happened, and now
- 5:42Speaker 1: I move on. Well, that's a great question. And as
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know, I'm incredibly accomplished, and you know, I've written
- 5:50Speaker 1: seven books, four of them were best sellers. I Uh,
- 5:55Speaker 1: I saw the Cubs win the World Series. I as
- 5:58Speaker 1: a human being. I ran an award winning magazine that
- 6:03Speaker 1: we essentially had to start over from scratch because when
- 6:06Speaker 1: we moved it from New York to Connecticut of the
- 6:09Speaker 1: staff left, and you know, we hired great people and
- 6:13Speaker 1: they turned it into something outstanding. And then I got
- 6:17Speaker 1: to run ESPN Digital, which was a blast, but not
- 6:21Speaker 1: a big celebrator. This one felt definitely worth celebrating, Like
- 6:27Speaker 1: even you know, you can always look at it. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: always look at it like how do my kids respond?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Or how did my wife respond? Because there's nobody less
- 6:36Speaker 1: impressed with me or my life than them. And at
- 6:40Speaker 1: one point a buddy was texting me and he was
- 6:44Speaker 1: texting me and it was me, my wife and his
- 6:45Speaker 1: wife on the chain and they were excited, and you know,
- 6:49Speaker 1: my closest friend in the world, and they were they
- 6:52Speaker 1: were enthusiastic about seeing the news. And uh, my wife said,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I'm reading a story about when Chad left ESPN for
- 6:59Speaker 1: Action because the news broke in the Wall Street Journal.
- 7:01Speaker 1: When I left espn uh and we launched Action. It
- 7:05Speaker 1: was also an exclusive in the Wall Street Journal and
- 7:09Speaker 1: she was reading the story and she's like she she
- 7:13Speaker 1: she was just genuinely proud and so uh that was
- 7:18Speaker 1: exciting that uh. And also, look, it's a big fucking
- 7:24Speaker 1: deal the two to sell a company for her significant
- 7:28Speaker 1: amount of money. And obviously I'm like the least important
- 7:31Speaker 1: person in the process of selling the company. It was
- 7:33Speaker 1: our CEO and Patrick Keene and Melissa Bests who runs
- 7:36Speaker 1: our finance team, and Aery Broad who runs who's our CEO.
- 7:39Speaker 1: They did all the lifting on it um. But to
- 7:43Speaker 1: be a part of it is cool and so yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 1: totally totally celebrated that. My favorite part of this whole
- 7:50Speaker 1: thing was Chad said he wasn't gonna rank for ten
- 7:52Speaker 1: minutes before he came on, and I think we just
- 7:54Speaker 1: hit the fifteen minute mark. So props to you, Chad.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You're the best man ever. Listen, I'm like a windup toy.
- 8:03Speaker 1: You asked me one question and then you can go
- 8:06Speaker 1: take a nap. I love it. I love it. That's it.
- 8:10Speaker 1: That's it. But obviously super exciting and uh, nothing else
- 8:14Speaker 1: is going to change as far as you know as
- 8:16Speaker 1: far as like people who listen to this or or
- 8:19Speaker 1: engage with the Action Network, this means this will mean
- 8:22Speaker 1: zero to them. Yeah, eventually, I'm just have an AI
- 8:26Speaker 1: version of Chad. Once he does just leave me and
- 8:28Speaker 1: go to some like a beach in Hawaii or whatever,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I'll just be talking with some AI vers chat which
- 8:33Speaker 1: who knows, it might be the same show. Maybe this
- 8:34Speaker 1: guy the A. I won't pick her cousins instead of
- 8:37Speaker 1: taking just a Herbert first show Flaca. Who knows. Let
- 8:40Speaker 1: me say this my unit size, as far as my bets,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I'm not going to change. I'm still the same person
- 8:47Speaker 1: I've always been and I will still make the same
- 8:51Speaker 1: bad decisions that I've always made. Count on it. Like
- 8:57Speaker 1: inviting Matthew Freedman on this podcast. Absolutely, I mean I
- 9:02Speaker 1: hope to be a guest on many more horrible episodes
- 9:05Speaker 1: for years to come. Well, I think we're gonna I
- 9:10Speaker 1: am looking forward to making that happen. Uh And the
- 9:14Speaker 1: reason we do on the podcast we did we gotta
- 9:17Speaker 1: do a lot of draft recap. Look, last week was
- 9:21Speaker 1: fucking insane and so um. Freedman tweeted out, how many
- 9:25Speaker 1: picks did you make in the draft? Two two bets
- 9:31Speaker 1: on the draft, which is like awesome, just just insane.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You went up, you went big, then you were up
- 9:41Speaker 1: like I forgot much it was wasn't above twenty units
- 9:44Speaker 1: like you killed it. I think it was. That's a
- 9:48Speaker 1: that's a great that's a great weekend. There was. There's
- 9:51Speaker 1: a guy who tailed a lot of my bets, not
- 9:53Speaker 1: all of them. He was much more judicious and he
- 9:56Speaker 1: won ninety units. I mean, I feel like there were
- 10:01Speaker 1: times when I got in my own way, and you
- 10:03Speaker 1: know sometimes when I was young, yeah, buying you know,
- 10:07Speaker 1: buying high and selling low, you know, on certain players.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But you know, for me, I entered the process wanting
- 10:13Speaker 1: to have a lot of volume in it, uh, and
- 10:16Speaker 1: so firing whenever I thought I had an edge, That's
- 10:18Speaker 1: what I did. It could have been a massively great week. Uh.
- 10:22Speaker 1: If a couple of things had happened for me, one
- 10:24Speaker 1: of which Trayvon Morrig, if he had been the number
- 10:26Speaker 1: one safety selected fantastic week that didn't happen, Or if
- 10:30Speaker 1: mac Jones had gone number three, that would have helped.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But as it was, it really didn't hurt that much
- 10:35Speaker 1: because I still had hedged appropriately with Trey Lance you know,
- 10:38Speaker 1: so it all, it all worked out, and it was
- 10:40Speaker 1: a really fun process. So the mac Jones pick was fascinating. Simon.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Let's reset the scene for people. Thursday morning, we are
- 10:52Speaker 1: recording the Thunderdome, Matt Mitchell's brilliant brainchild. And before we
- 10:57Speaker 1: start recording you, it's the day of the draft. You
- 11:00Speaker 1: hold up one of your phones and you say, this
- 11:02Speaker 1: bad phone. If it goes off, I'm gonna have to
- 11:03Speaker 1: bounce off. Uh, explain every everything about what you were
- 11:09Speaker 1: doing on Thursday, what you were hearing, and how Thursday
- 11:15Speaker 1: worked out for you. Uh, because mac Jones did not
- 11:18Speaker 1: go number three. It's tough because I try to try
- 11:20Speaker 1: to be as humble as I can on this show
- 11:22Speaker 1: because people don't want to hear all this bullshit. They
- 11:24Speaker 1: don't want to hear me like bragging about sources and
- 11:25Speaker 1: show like that. But yeah, man, I wake up Thursday morning,
- 11:29Speaker 1: three am and it's just never ending, just BS, but
- 11:33Speaker 1: just people hitting you up, telling you what they're hearing.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And like I told you, my job is to try
- 11:38Speaker 1: to figure out what's legit and what's just total smoke
- 11:41Speaker 1: screen BS. I would say, just even three weeks before
- 11:44Speaker 1: when the whole thing came out about Mac. Again. I
- 11:46Speaker 1: don't think I'm better than these people are grading quarterbacks,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but when I saw that, it just didn't make any
- 11:51Speaker 1: sense to anyone where. It's like even the lamest person
- 11:54Speaker 1: who is terrible at grading quarterbacks has Mac is a
- 11:57Speaker 1: fifth quarterback. He was just unanimous. He was the fifth guy.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I I pretty much have told you even weeks prior,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I've been betting the Mac over three and a half.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I've just been kept. I kept betting it because I
- 12:05Speaker 1: kept trusting that I knew something was off here and
- 12:07Speaker 1: that it was kind of all bullshit. Luckily, I have
- 12:10Speaker 1: a source who I do really trust the bells and
- 12:12Speaker 1: will start going off that maybe tray Lance was a
- 12:14Speaker 1: guy going So by Wednesday this is called fire. Tons
- 12:17Speaker 1: of people have heard about this. I heard about this
- 12:19Speaker 1: started so ball, and by Thursday morning, I've been getting
- 12:21Speaker 1: kind of hearing stuff about it. I gave that a
- 12:23Speaker 1: plus three hundred. I gave you tray Lance or whatever
- 12:25Speaker 1: was a plus two fifty plus three hundred. It was
- 12:27Speaker 1: a stressful day, especially you made me do that article
- 12:29Speaker 1: and that video, and I was just like I went
- 12:32Speaker 1: from you know, a hundred people hitting me up to
- 12:33Speaker 1: thousands of people. I mean, my d m s. Dude,
- 12:35Speaker 1: that's what's like insane. It's just the negativity. People just
- 12:38Speaker 1: want us to fail so bad. Where it's like I'm
- 12:40Speaker 1: giving good information, I trusted information. I wouldn't put it
- 12:43Speaker 1: out there unless I believed in it, because, like I
- 12:44Speaker 1: told you all the time, I don't want to look
- 12:46Speaker 1: like an idiot. That's the worst thing ever, Like, it's
- 12:48Speaker 1: the worst this put your name out there on something
- 12:50Speaker 1: like that. It looks like a jackass. So do when
- 12:52Speaker 1: that The longest one minute of my life was him
- 12:55Speaker 1: walking out there announced that pick. Like when you said
- 12:57Speaker 1: Trai Lance. In my head I heard mac Jones. Like,
- 12:59Speaker 1: I literally fell on my knees in the room I
- 13:01Speaker 1: was with all these people because I heard in my
- 13:03Speaker 1: own head it was mac Jones. And Someone's like, dude, dude,
- 13:05Speaker 1: it was Tray. I was like, oh my god, oh
- 13:08Speaker 1: my god. So yeah, man, it's the high highs. At
- 13:11Speaker 1: the same time, the stress, Dude, that whole day was
- 13:14Speaker 1: just stressed. You literally in your head heard him say
- 13:18Speaker 1: mac Jones when they announced the pick I got. I
- 13:21Speaker 1: literally fell on my knees. It was like someone just
- 13:24Speaker 1: sucked all the air at it like shrieked, like the
- 13:26Speaker 1: whole party just like went silent. I just shrieked the time.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I was like, I just fell on my knees. I
- 13:31Speaker 1: saw his mouth saying mac Jones. So I think it's
- 13:35Speaker 1: just the stressful. But I hadn't. I've been up since
- 13:36Speaker 1: three am, and I was drinking all day just because
- 13:39Speaker 1: you know, I done my job and I just all
- 13:41Speaker 1: that left is the results. So it was just one
- 13:43Speaker 1: of those where I was in a room full of
- 13:44Speaker 1: people would also bet on Trey Lance to be the
- 13:47Speaker 1: third pick with me, and it was just like, oh
- 13:48Speaker 1: my god, I'm surrounded by a pack of wolves right
- 13:50Speaker 1: now once I heard that announce But thank god, man,
- 13:53Speaker 1: thank God for Trey Lance. When you're drinking like that
- 13:56Speaker 1: during the day, what are you drinking? I mean, if
- 13:58Speaker 1: we're being totally honest, I stayed a bunch of edibles.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I probably had a couple of beers. I just try
- 14:03Speaker 1: to help the anxiety, dude, because the stress level it's
- 14:05Speaker 1: the worst. Like I don't eat, I don't go to back,
- 14:08Speaker 1: like I'm just zong like out of my mind because
- 14:10Speaker 1: it's just the amount of money I know I personally have,
- 14:13Speaker 1: but the amount of people that have trusted me and
- 14:15Speaker 1: put their own money. It's just like the kind of
- 14:17Speaker 1: stress where it's like I just want to come through
- 14:18Speaker 1: for these people. Like I put in the work. I
- 14:21Speaker 1: am praying to God that my work is correct, because
- 14:23Speaker 1: no one wants to lose, especially when when it's this
- 14:25Speaker 1: amount of money. So if I was drinking, my my
- 14:28Speaker 1: go to for like a relaxing thing like that is.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I know people are gonna hate on it, but it
- 14:32Speaker 1: gets me drunk is Long Island iced tea. I love
- 14:35Speaker 1: Long Island iced teas. How are you fucking kidding me?
- 14:37Speaker 1: I know, dude, it's the childest thing ever, But I've
- 14:40Speaker 1: always just that's my go to. I love on a Palmers,
- 14:43Speaker 1: so it's a go to for me. I just sip
- 14:45Speaker 1: on it. I'm making on a farmer, I throw a
- 14:47Speaker 1: bucket and pretty much it's not really a Long island
- 14:49Speaker 1: icce tea, but it gets me drunk. I can't I
- 14:51Speaker 1: can't really talk much about Simon's alcoholic preferences. I will
- 14:55Speaker 1: say that Draft Day for me is the most stressful
- 14:59Speaker 1: day of the year, because especially this year. I'm not
- 15:02Speaker 1: gonna say I have like the entire bankroll on this
- 15:04Speaker 1: but like a significant portion of the bank roll was
- 15:07Speaker 1: invested in this one event. And granted it's like one
- 15:10Speaker 1: event comprised of all of these smaller correlated events, but
- 15:15Speaker 1: you know, like I was significantly invested in this. Plus
- 15:18Speaker 1: we have a lot of content that's coming out that day,
- 15:21Speaker 1: Plus I have mocked drafts that are due that day,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and you know, like I want to do these mock drafts. Well, uh,
- 15:27Speaker 1: and I finished number nineteen and the Fantasy Pros contest,
- 15:30Speaker 1: Shawn Corner, by the way, I think finished number six.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Just randomly submitted a mock draft and finished, you know
- 15:37Speaker 1: with a very good Maybe he was actually number five,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but he was up there, so you know, we did well.
- 15:42Speaker 1: But this was a stressful day. I love the draft
- 15:45Speaker 1: more than anything else in the world, but I like
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm right there with Simon, Like my stomach was just
- 15:51Speaker 1: a not the day of the draft. How much time
- 15:54Speaker 1: do you think you ended up putting into researching the draft.
- 15:58Speaker 1: It's months. It's from the minute the super Bowl ends,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and really even before that, but the minute the super
- 16:03Speaker 1: Bowl ends to uh even today, you know, like the
- 16:08Speaker 1: draft is over. But all of yesterday I was finishing
- 16:11Speaker 1: up the top fifty rookie Dynasty rankings. Uh, And so
- 16:16Speaker 1: it's months of focus on these players, you know, going
- 16:21Speaker 1: through the process, thinking about the draft and thinking once
- 16:24Speaker 1: they've been drafted, about what their future looks like from there.
- 16:27Speaker 1: It's it's months. Do you love it because it's a
- 16:32Speaker 1: betting opportunity that you think can be tapped and it's
- 16:36Speaker 1: markets that have have sort of opportunities there, or did
- 16:40Speaker 1: you fall in love with the idea of analyzing the draft?
- 16:43Speaker 1: I joked, I do remember when you sent a memo
- 16:49Speaker 1: to me and Scott Miller, who is now one of
- 16:52Speaker 1: our product geniuses but at the time was running our
- 16:55Speaker 1: content day to day. I remember you sending the memo
- 16:58Speaker 1: and saying, I want to cover the draft, and I
- 17:01Speaker 1: very distinctly remember it. I joked that I didn't read
- 17:04Speaker 1: it and didn't even know you worked for us, both
- 17:06Speaker 1: of which might have been true, but I did respond
- 17:09Speaker 1: that I felt like, okay, sounds good, Like I don't
- 17:15Speaker 1: have the guy doing anything better, so he might as
- 17:17Speaker 1: well do this. But did you do it because you
- 17:19Speaker 1: wanted to be male Keiper and you love football, or
- 17:21Speaker 1: because there's betting market to win it? Well, I feel
- 17:25Speaker 1: like at that time and I think that was the
- 17:27Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield draft. Uh. And I should say, like the
- 17:30Speaker 1: line movement that we saw with Mac Jones and Trey
- 17:33Speaker 1: Lance was very reminiscent of the line movement we saw
- 17:36Speaker 1: three years ago with Baker Mayfield. When I saw that
- 17:38Speaker 1: line movement, that's when I knew that it was Lance.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But it was that draft, and for the first time
- 17:45Speaker 1: in multiple books at least that I had seen, you
- 17:48Speaker 1: could bet on the draft. And so I think some
- 17:51Speaker 1: of the in with you of being able to say, like, hey,
- 17:54Speaker 1: there's actual something actionable with this content that I can create,
- 17:59Speaker 1: I think that made it a little more palatable to you.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But I've been obsessed with the draft forever. And it's
- 18:05Speaker 1: not really even like wanting to be mel keeper because
- 18:08Speaker 1: like that's not really my angle on it. It's just
- 18:11Speaker 1: it's more from the fantasy perspective. I'm obsessed with these
- 18:14Speaker 1: guys as prospects, uh, you know, obsessed with projecting them
- 18:19Speaker 1: to the NFL and thinking about from the fantasy perspective
- 18:23Speaker 1: what that is going to look like. You know, if
- 18:25Speaker 1: a guy enters the league, is he going to be
- 18:28Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer? Like, is he going to have
- 18:30Speaker 1: ten thousand yards seasons, like what is it gonna mean
- 18:32Speaker 1: in terms of the overall production, and that correlates to
- 18:35Speaker 1: thinking about like what's he going to be as a professional.
- 18:38Speaker 1: But it's slightly different. You know, mel Keeper is great
- 18:41Speaker 1: at his job. He looks at hundreds thousands of prospects.
- 18:46Speaker 1: He does it with film. I hardly ever look at film, like,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I'm not a film expert. For me, it's it's in
- 18:52Speaker 1: the numbers, and it's really in the data of looking
- 18:55Speaker 1: specifically at mock drafts, uh and coming through those and
- 19:00Speaker 1: seeing who's an expert there and having that provide an edge.
- 19:03Speaker 1: But it's uh, I mean, it's a fun process. But
- 19:06Speaker 1: never did I think I'm going to be multiper. It
- 19:08Speaker 1: was just I love the draft, and uh, I have
- 19:11Speaker 1: this time from February to you know, May, when I'm
- 19:16Speaker 1: not really doing anything, I could be doing this. Simon,
- 19:20Speaker 1: did you get into the draft because you saw the
- 19:24Speaker 1: betting opportunity? It was a good way to get ahead
- 19:26Speaker 1: on what you might need to do for football? Where like,
- 19:29Speaker 1: what are you doing to understand it? Yeah, I would
- 19:32Speaker 1: definitely say that people need to understand how much the
- 19:34Speaker 1: draft has changed. Like he was just saying like twenty
- 19:37Speaker 1: that sounds about right when it started being like more
- 19:39Speaker 1: legalized across America, so there was more books. But pretty
- 19:43Speaker 1: much Vegas really wasn't into the draft. Like they would
- 19:45Speaker 1: give props, but it wasn't great value a lot of
- 19:47Speaker 1: the time. And like because Vegas knew they were the
- 19:50Speaker 1: only show in town, like there was nowhere else to go,
- 19:52Speaker 1: so they really knew they didn't have to really expose
- 19:54Speaker 1: themselves because they get it, like the advantage we have
- 19:57Speaker 1: compared to the regular season, where yeah, we have some
- 20:00Speaker 1: advantage from weeks because they they hang a bad number
- 20:02Speaker 1: in different that, but the draft, I would say for years,
- 20:05Speaker 1: the cap was about a grant man, like you would
- 20:07Speaker 1: try to get down more than the grand That just
- 20:09Speaker 1: was not happening. And it's advanced now where you can
- 20:12Speaker 1: get down a lot of money on the draft and
- 20:14Speaker 1: folks are always trying to upset all they actual they
- 20:17Speaker 1: have on the draft. So I love it. Um. I've
- 20:20Speaker 1: taken a step back a little bit this year where
- 20:22Speaker 1: I still do a lot of film study doing like that,
- 20:23Speaker 1: but I really focused me only at quarterbacks the last
- 20:25Speaker 1: couple of years. Um, I mean we can get into
- 20:28Speaker 1: all that because I know I'm sure dying to talk
- 20:30Speaker 1: about quarterbacks, but uh, it's it's definitely one of these
- 20:34Speaker 1: things where I try to keep putting it out there
- 20:37Speaker 1: and people really were interesting it where again, these guys
- 20:39Speaker 1: are great at doing mocks, but to fade the noise,
- 20:41Speaker 1: that's how you make the profit a lot of the
- 20:43Speaker 1: time here in these drafts. And again I kept putting
- 20:47Speaker 1: out there for weeks to fade the mac over three
- 20:49Speaker 1: and a half and it just never ending. Yes from people,
- 20:51Speaker 1: just like never ending because people just don't want to
- 20:53Speaker 1: hear because they're already staunching their bets. But I just
- 20:55Speaker 1: try to have people look at it that these my
- 20:57Speaker 1: guys are really good at the same time they're they're
- 20:59Speaker 1: doing their has to try to guess something that's gonna happen.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It's it's impossible to predict how these gms are gonna
- 21:04Speaker 1: do things. So like he just said, Matt, Matt had
- 21:06Speaker 1: a great year and he was talking about Sean like
- 21:08Speaker 1: having a great year. That's like really impressive to get
- 21:10Speaker 1: that many right out of the picks because you never
- 21:13Speaker 1: know what team is gonna trade up or do things
- 21:14Speaker 1: weird like the Oakland Raiders. No one's probably I mean,
- 21:17Speaker 1: I know, like the other year they drafted a running
- 21:18Speaker 1: back that was an easy bet. You never know who
- 21:20Speaker 1: open's gonna take. And every time they do something weird
- 21:23Speaker 1: like what they did this year, taking the no alignment
- 21:25Speaker 1: like way before you're supposed to go, that kind of
- 21:27Speaker 1: has a ripple effect and a lot of people's mocks
- 21:29Speaker 1: and drafts. So again, when you're trying to bet these things,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I would definitely try to go with big plus numbers
- 21:34Speaker 1: because like, not all this could be like Freeman here,
- 21:37Speaker 1: where we're doing tons of bets like that. It's it's
- 21:39Speaker 1: easier tractor, but doing a smaller amount, especially at a
- 21:41Speaker 1: plus number, it's a little easier. But if you're like
- 21:44Speaker 1: Matt and there is a ton of advantage, I mean,
- 21:46Speaker 1: you can make every year, you're gonna make a profit.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I've never had a negative year betting on the draft
- 21:50Speaker 1: and I've been doing it now for eight nine years.
- 21:52Speaker 1: So it's one of those where I love the advantage
- 21:54Speaker 1: and the fact that books are taking more money and
- 21:56Speaker 1: out the future of it. I just love the way
- 21:58Speaker 1: it's going with gambling. Yeah, Sigmon, to your point, I've
- 22:01Speaker 1: never had a negative year. This is the one event
- 22:03Speaker 1: where everyone can say they're positive. And it makes sense,
- 22:06Speaker 1: like people are obsessed with the draft. They know more
- 22:09Speaker 1: about the draft, about the prospects than the bookmakers do.
- 22:12Speaker 1: You know, Like it's the one area because it's information,
- 22:15Speaker 1: the one area where I think a lot of people
- 22:17Speaker 1: actually do have an edge over the bookmakers because the
- 22:20Speaker 1: bookmakers just don't care as much as obsessed sports fans do. Yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 1: and like the stuff that leaks, Like we all knew
- 22:27Speaker 1: Gettleman had leaked early. He liked DeVante Smith, he leaked
- 22:30Speaker 1: like two weeks prior so that under eleven and a half.
- 22:33Speaker 1: That was easy. Bet, sure, I got lucky. The egos
- 22:35Speaker 1: trade up, snatch and reperform. But it's one of those
- 22:37Speaker 1: like the Pittsburgh or the running back now as over
- 22:40Speaker 1: unders in that twenty four and a half for a
- 22:42Speaker 1: long time, maybe the whole week leading up to the draft,
- 22:44Speaker 1: and you kept hearing Pittsburgh was gonna take a running
- 22:46Speaker 1: back with the first picks in that number twenty four. So,
- 22:48Speaker 1: like you just said, there's always these advantages where the
- 22:50Speaker 1: bookmakers have to they pretty much have to play on
- 22:53Speaker 1: their on you know, they're trying to play both sides.
- 22:55Speaker 1: They can't have too much liability on one side. So,
- 22:57Speaker 1: like you just said, that Trey Lance line movement, that
- 23:00Speaker 1: was simply because they were just getting pounded on a
- 23:02Speaker 1: plus number and they needed it like even it out
- 23:05Speaker 1: with the offset what was happening with Max. So it
- 23:07Speaker 1: was really fun to watch all those numbers moving because
- 23:10Speaker 1: you just saw things were just steaming from you know,
- 23:12Speaker 1: as soon as I told you eleven am, so one o'clock,
- 23:15Speaker 1: the line had moved by two hundreds. So that's that's
- 23:17Speaker 1: the most fun for me on the draft day, where's
- 23:19Speaker 1: you get this inside affirmation. You see the line move
- 23:21Speaker 1: and you're just like, wow, nailed that one. So that's
- 23:24Speaker 1: that's like, you know the best because you know football,
- 23:26Speaker 1: we don't get that kind of crazy movement the day
- 23:28Speaker 1: of the games unless there's something crazy. And so I
- 23:30Speaker 1: love the draft. I know, we we we've gone too
- 23:33Speaker 1: far now about how much we love it, but yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 1: we love the draft. Well I think a lot of
- 23:38Speaker 1: people love the draft. You can see it in the ratings,
- 23:41Speaker 1: you could see it in the response, you could see
- 23:44Speaker 1: it in our audience uh in action, in the app
- 23:47Speaker 1: and on the web. It continues to be one of
- 23:54Speaker 1: those things. It's it's almost like social media for linear,
- 23:59Speaker 1: something is always coming up next. You're always like, let
- 24:02Speaker 1: me see this one more thing, let me see this
- 24:04Speaker 1: one more thing, let me see this one more thing,
- 24:06Speaker 1: and it's hard to walk away from it. As a
- 24:09Speaker 1: Bears fan. We have not talked about Justin Fields. We
- 24:12Speaker 1: have not talked about the quarterbacking. We have not talked
- 24:15Speaker 1: about Zack Wilson. UM. The fact the Bears didn't get
- 24:21Speaker 1: out of the didn't get in their own way. They
- 24:24Speaker 1: made the right moves. They not only drafted Justin Fields,
- 24:27Speaker 1: who I love as a quarterback. And I have a bias,
- 24:30Speaker 1: not like I'm studying quarterbacks the wa you guys are,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but I just have a bias against quarterbacks who have
- 24:37Speaker 1: consistently performed at the highest levels, at the highest level,
- 24:40Speaker 1: and Justin Fields has done that. UM, Trevor Lawrence has
- 24:44Speaker 1: done that. Zack Wilson has not done that. Trey Lance
- 24:47Speaker 1: has not done that, Mac Jones has not done that.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence are the only two quarterbacks
- 24:54Speaker 1: in this draft who, for consistent periods of time over
- 24:58Speaker 1: multiple seasons, exactly what they were supposed to do and
- 25:02Speaker 1: lived up to every expectation. For me, that was a
- 25:06Speaker 1: no brainer to get Justin Fields and go all in
- 25:08Speaker 1: on Justin Fields and to get alignment in the second round.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I don't know why it took the Bears, you know,
- 25:14Speaker 1: Matt Nagge and Ryan Pace five fucking years and the
- 25:18Speaker 1: threat of firing to get it right. But they finally
- 25:21Speaker 1: had a right justin fields Chad. This This was amazing.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I think they had the best draft. And it wasn't
- 25:29Speaker 1: just getting Justin Fields, it was the way they did it.
- 25:32Speaker 1: They were incredibly intelligent with how they did this because
- 25:35Speaker 1: look at the forty Niners who moved from twelve to three.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Of course they had to give the twelve pick. In
- 25:40Speaker 1: that trade, they gave away two future first rounders and
- 25:43Speaker 1: a third rounder. They over levered themselves with that trade.
- 25:47Speaker 1: And then you compare that to the Bears, who were smart.
- 25:50Speaker 1: If they had done this before the draft, they would
- 25:52Speaker 1: have had to go all the way up to four
- 25:54Speaker 1: to ensure that they get their guy. But they waited.
- 25:57Speaker 1: They were opportunistic. They let a core were back fall
- 26:00Speaker 1: down the board. It's so much easier to trade from
- 26:04Speaker 1: twenty to eleven than twenty to four. So yeah, they
- 26:08Speaker 1: had to give away one future first rounder. But they're
- 26:11Speaker 1: still getting value because they got the number two quarterback
- 26:14Speaker 1: in the class in Justin Fields. And then they did
- 26:16Speaker 1: it again with Tevin Jenkins, who should have been a
- 26:18Speaker 1: first rounder. I mean, he's a first round caliber offensive lineman.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And to get him in the second round to move
- 26:24Speaker 1: from fifty two to thirty nine, yeah, you have to
- 26:26Speaker 1: give away a third round or to do that. But
- 26:28Speaker 1: you come away from the draft with a quarterback who
- 26:31Speaker 1: can potentially change your franchise and a left tackle who
- 26:35Speaker 1: can protect him. You win the draft if you do that,
- 26:39Speaker 1: regardless of whatever you do for the rest of it.
- 26:42Speaker 1: So they absolutely nailed it. We assume it's all about you, assume,
- 26:50Speaker 1: but it's all about the process. And with the information
- 26:53Speaker 1: we have now, they could not have played the market
- 26:56Speaker 1: any better than they did. And Uh, what do you want? Chat?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Do you want me to be positive or you want
- 27:02Speaker 1: me to read the storm bring the negativity? What do
- 27:04Speaker 1: you want? I want realism? Listen, I just want realism.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I want here's one for you. Throughout the entire experience
- 27:16Speaker 1: with the Action Network. Uh, from the day we launched, uh,
- 27:21Speaker 1: the Churning Group which which uh you know, owned the business,
- 27:25Speaker 1: started the business Mike Currents, who ran who runs digital
- 27:29Speaker 1: for the Turning Group. This was his idea. He's the
- 27:31Speaker 1: one who recruited me. Uh and uh. He would always say,
- 27:36Speaker 1: we need to be intellectually honest, meaning you can't you
- 27:42Speaker 1: have to look at the numbers devoid of any emotion.
- 27:45Speaker 1: You you, whatever your biases are, you have to leave
- 27:48Speaker 1: them at the door when you're looking at the business.
- 27:51Speaker 1: And we did, like there were times where things were
- 27:53Speaker 1: not going well and we had to be intellectually honest
- 27:55Speaker 1: about decisions we made and what we were trying to
- 27:57Speaker 1: do and all those kinds of things. In the draft,
- 28:02Speaker 1: I want intellectual honesty from you, Simon, I don't need
- 28:06Speaker 1: That's well, we all love the draft because it's just
- 28:10Speaker 1: it's like before the season starts, you just have the
- 28:12Speaker 1: highest of hopes. You see the way things can go.
- 28:15Speaker 1: You know, the Jets just got a new quarterback. There
- 28:17Speaker 1: feel like good. The Bears just got a new quarterback.
- 28:19Speaker 1: They're feeling good. So chat as you know, I love history.
- 28:22Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite things. I love history, and
- 28:26Speaker 1: it's I love it so much because history just keeps
- 28:28Speaker 1: repeating itself and it's just never anywhere you can fight history.
- 28:32Speaker 1: As much as you want, but little things will always
- 28:34Speaker 1: lead you back the same end result. And you can
- 28:36Speaker 1: look through history anything, and even situations we're in right
- 28:39Speaker 1: now globally, you'll be able to find something like it
- 28:41Speaker 1: happening at one point in history, and you can find
- 28:43Speaker 1: the result. So what do we know about the draft?
- 28:46Speaker 1: We know that in the history of the NFL draft,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I mean just in our lifetime, we've had two drafts
- 28:52Speaker 1: I would say the last thirty years that produced three
- 28:55Speaker 1: really good Hall of Fame quarterbacks, right and you know
- 28:59Speaker 1: the who knows twenty eighteen, it could work out. We
- 29:01Speaker 1: have the Baker, he could be a legit. Josh Allen
- 29:04Speaker 1: could be the Gil Lamar Sam Donald. We already know
- 29:06Speaker 1: Rosen's duck, so we we get how rare it is
- 29:09Speaker 1: to have a bunch of quarterbacks or workouts. So right
- 29:11Speaker 1: now we have five quarterbacks got drafted in the top
- 29:14Speaker 1: fifteen picks. So if we're all gambling man, who would
- 29:18Speaker 1: bet on to be the first buss? We bet on
- 29:19Speaker 1: Zach Wilson. That kid looks like he just went through puberty.
- 29:23Speaker 1: He looks shook being around these other dudes who like
- 29:25Speaker 1: we're thrown up like signs and stuff like he did
- 29:28Speaker 1: not look like this dude is gonna be able to
- 29:29Speaker 1: hand in New York. And he's too good looking, which
- 29:31Speaker 1: people might hate me saying that I swear people talk
- 29:34Speaker 1: about all the time. There is something too that you
- 29:37Speaker 1: can be too good looking. He is way too good looking.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Like how con struggle with it every day? It's a
- 29:42Speaker 1: it's um But now I'm joking. Of course he he
- 29:46Speaker 1: could work out. Like Matt said, we have no idea
- 29:48Speaker 1: what's gonna happen with the coach and there what scheam
- 29:49Speaker 1: A're gonna put him in, how they're gonna support him.
- 29:51Speaker 1: When I look at Fields and Bears, it's people keep
- 29:55Speaker 1: talking about Ohio State don't produce quarterbacks. Guess what, The
- 29:58Speaker 1: Bears don't produce quarterback. So it's like the meeting of
- 30:02Speaker 1: two perfect stories. We have a franchise that can't draft,
- 30:05Speaker 1: can't produce quarterbacks in the last forty years, and we
- 30:07Speaker 1: have a college that cannot produce good caliber starting quarterbacks.
- 30:12Speaker 1: So I can't wait. I love it because I love Fields,
- 30:15Speaker 1: use my number, my number two raded quarterback. I have
- 30:18Speaker 1: the highest hopes. But I told you Chad, I'm a
- 30:21Speaker 1: fan of history, so I will be fading the Bears
- 30:24Speaker 1: and Fields the next coming years. Just be on the
- 30:26Speaker 1: simple fact that this is what the Bears do. They
- 30:29Speaker 1: can't draft and they're just bad with quarterbacks. So I
- 30:33Speaker 1: know it's painful to say, Chad, I'm but it's the
- 30:35Speaker 1: gambler in me man. I have to just look at
- 30:37Speaker 1: it non bias. Of course, I want him to work out.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I wanted to be great for the Bears. But we
- 30:41Speaker 1: all know what's gonna happen here. We're gonna be sitting
- 30:43Speaker 1: here in four years and Chad's gonna have drafted a
- 30:46Speaker 1: quarterback and he's going to convince him stuff like he
- 30:48Speaker 1: is right now. So it's the hard truth. But I
- 30:51Speaker 1: definitely hope I'm wrong. Oh my god, If we're sitting
- 30:55Speaker 1: here in four years and having that conversation and Freedman
- 30:58Speaker 1: is still a part of it, I would have made
- 31:00Speaker 1: so many bad decisions since we sold this company. Yeah, Chad,
- 31:05Speaker 1: what you can do is you can actually just be
- 31:07Speaker 1: negative on it right now, so that if it doesn't
- 31:10Speaker 1: go your way, you knew what was going to happen,
- 31:12Speaker 1: and if it works out with Fields, then you can
- 31:15Speaker 1: be pleasantly surprised that that is maybe the mindset to
- 31:18Speaker 1: have here. I am so enthusiastic about justin fields up
- 31:26Speaker 1: until the moment Simon said, Ohio State doesn't produce quarterbacks.
- 31:30Speaker 1: The Bears can't coach quarterbacks. Up until that moment, I
- 31:34Speaker 1: was in love with everything that they had done, and
- 31:36Speaker 1: you just made perfect sense. All it takes is one man.
- 31:39Speaker 1: He could be your knee, you know, he could be
- 31:42Speaker 1: your savior. So he could be the glitch of the matrix.
- 31:44Speaker 1: It's to be seen. But just as a gambler, it's
- 31:47Speaker 1: just one of those where I have to look at
- 31:48Speaker 1: the situation in the history. It's just like this team
- 31:51Speaker 1: usually messes up. So my last quarterback got like I
- 31:55Speaker 1: get my Patriots fans are feeling great. They think they
- 31:58Speaker 1: got a good deal on mac Jones. Mac Jones went
- 32:01Speaker 1: exactly where he was supposed to go, used us in
- 32:02Speaker 1: the middle of first round and her first round quarterback
- 32:05Speaker 1: with limited upside. He's smart, Belichick. He's one of those
- 32:10Speaker 1: guys that I'm not going to bet against them the
- 32:11Speaker 1: simple fact that, yeah, it's probably gonna work out for him.
- 32:15Speaker 1: But again, what do we know about the Patriots. They
- 32:16Speaker 1: drafted one good quarterback last twenty years. His name is
- 32:19Speaker 1: Tom Brady that was in the seventh round. These people,
- 32:22Speaker 1: it's not like they're franchise of groups where they keep
- 32:24Speaker 1: pumping out great quarterbacks. You can go through the list.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Sure you can say Jimmy was a good quarterback. Was
- 32:29Speaker 1: he really? The guy can't stay on the field. So
- 32:32Speaker 1: it's just one of those where none of these teams
- 32:33Speaker 1: have the exact science. So early on, like especially after
- 32:37Speaker 1: I watching much film, we talked about the time going
- 32:39Speaker 1: to the rookie year, there's gonna be one or two
- 32:40Speaker 1: of these quarterbacks they're gonna succeed this season. Last year
- 32:43Speaker 1: at Herbert, I mean, we could say what we want
- 32:45Speaker 1: about Joe Burrow. We don't know because he got hurt
- 32:47Speaker 1: and he was passing a ton every game. But but
- 32:50Speaker 1: Burrow looks pretty good. He looks like he's going to
- 32:52Speaker 1: be a starter in this league. Like he's tough, he's intelligent,
- 32:55Speaker 1: and he makes really good throws. But to uh, we
- 32:58Speaker 1: don't know that that guy could be a bus So
- 33:00Speaker 1: that's the thing. It's like we all have high hopes
- 33:03Speaker 1: for these picks, but you have to actually watch them
- 33:04Speaker 1: play and see how they surround him where it's like
- 33:07Speaker 1: I don't know, I have a lot of things where
- 33:09Speaker 1: it's like I'm obsessed with Fields and I love them
- 33:12Speaker 1: to death, and it's like this guy's upside is so tremendous,
- 33:15Speaker 1: but like you just went through with Naggy and I'm
- 33:17Speaker 1: just worried. I'm just worried about the situation she's going
- 33:20Speaker 1: through that it's a GM that's on a hot seats coach,
- 33:22Speaker 1: it's on a hot seat. It's a lot of turmoil.
- 33:24Speaker 1: We're at least with Zach Wilson, You've got a brand
- 33:26Speaker 1: new head coach, you're safe for the next couple of years,
- 33:28Speaker 1: and you have a GM who is just supporting him.
- 33:31Speaker 1: He literally dropped an alignment last year, dropped another alignment
- 33:34Speaker 1: this year in the first round. I just it's like
- 33:36Speaker 1: two things where it's like I don't know which one'm
- 33:38Speaker 1: gonna bank on whom betting futures on. But right now,
- 33:41Speaker 1: for me, if if you are going to make me
- 33:43Speaker 1: picking a rookie year bets and you wanna start getting
- 33:45Speaker 1: to that stuff, yeah, my favorite upside bet right now
- 33:48Speaker 1: is probably Fields. But Field has been bet up so
- 33:50Speaker 1: high now there's no value because the number has just
- 33:52Speaker 1: been bet up by all these parents fans, so I
- 33:54Speaker 1: love him, Jet, I'm like excited for your hack. I
- 33:56Speaker 1: don't want you to be like, this guy's durning my life.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I'm just letting you out the histories. You know, four
- 34:00Speaker 1: years we're sitting here. It's just like, okay, I mean,
- 34:04Speaker 1: he was right, but it's it's just one of those
- 34:05Speaker 1: things where it's who really knows to your point about
- 34:08Speaker 1: the turmoil, like that is one thing that could get Fields.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Historically if you look at the quarterbacks who tend not
- 34:14Speaker 1: to pan out and there's you know, something of a
- 34:16Speaker 1: self fulfilling prophecy here. But the quarterbacks who have to
- 34:20Speaker 1: endure regime changes, whether that's you know, new coaches coming in,
- 34:23Speaker 1: new general managers coming in, those situations tend not to
- 34:27Speaker 1: work out for the quarterbacks. They need continuity. That's one
- 34:31Speaker 1: thing that I think mac Jones probably will have going
- 34:34Speaker 1: for him with the Patriots is I expect there will
- 34:36Speaker 1: be continuity there for the foreseeable future with him while
- 34:39Speaker 1: he develops with Fields. If it doesn't work out this
- 34:42Speaker 1: year and Naggi is fired, then you just have to
- 34:46Speaker 1: start over again next year with Fields, and that will
- 34:49Speaker 1: set him back. So that is the one thing that
- 34:51Speaker 1: you have to hope for it that everything works out
- 34:54Speaker 1: for him this year and that he's good enough, the
- 34:57Speaker 1: team is good enough for Naggy to get another year,
- 35:00Speaker 1: and then they can keep on progressing with the system
- 35:02Speaker 1: that he's in right now. Do you know what I love? Uh?
- 35:07Speaker 1: I love that the celebration, images, videos, whatever from the stiffest,
- 35:18Speaker 1: most uncomfortable NFL team exects and scouts who like when
- 35:25Speaker 1: they draft their precious twenty one year old wide receiver
- 35:30Speaker 1: or alignment or running back or defensive back or quarterback.
- 35:33Speaker 1: They're high five in each other. They're hugging each other
- 35:37Speaker 1: like it's exactly what they wanted, when not everybody gets
- 35:41Speaker 1: exactly what they want, and but they will. They will
- 35:44Speaker 1: tell you this is perfect. It's exactly how we saw
- 35:47Speaker 1: the board playing out. We knew this guy was gonna
- 35:50Speaker 1: do this. We knew this guy was gonna do this,
- 35:51Speaker 1: and if this guy ended up in our laps, we
- 35:54Speaker 1: were golden. And then they will celebrate as if it's
- 35:57Speaker 1: the greatest moment of their lives, and they just look silly.
- 36:00Speaker 1: The whole draft process has revealed it itself to be unscientific,
- 36:07Speaker 1: completely steeped in emotion, and I lose so much respect
- 36:13Speaker 1: for these scouts and gms every year because it seems
- 36:17Speaker 1: like they know less and less about how to do
- 36:18Speaker 1: their jobs. I'll just counter that real quick. If you look,
- 36:22Speaker 1: they are pretty good. Like if you look at this
- 36:24Speaker 1: year the quarterbacks, the stars in the league and what
- 36:25Speaker 1: rounds are taking in, they nail it like over half
- 36:28Speaker 1: the league our first round pick, So like they're they're
- 36:30Speaker 1: pretty good. But of course there's always be ones that
- 36:32Speaker 1: slip through the crack where it's like, you know, dak
- 36:34Speaker 1: Or Russell Wilson, these guys that go third, fourth round.
- 36:37Speaker 1: But I would say, like you're just saying it is
- 36:39Speaker 1: a crap shoot, like most of these teams, Like the
- 36:42Speaker 1: most painful video forever will be the Vikings celebrating getting
- 36:47Speaker 1: the Eagles passed and took Gregor last year and when
- 36:49Speaker 1: they got Jefferson. They just played that on a loop
- 36:51Speaker 1: of the Vikings being like, wait who they take? Wait
- 36:53Speaker 1: what they do? And they traded up and they took that. That.
- 36:55Speaker 1: As an Egos fan, those those videos can be very painful,
- 36:58Speaker 1: So I know you mean, though it is diculous than celebrating.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Sometimes they're totally all right, before we go, we gotta go.
- 37:05Speaker 1: But before we do. Um, I would like to know,
- 37:10Speaker 1: did anything that happened in the draft change your opinions
- 37:13Speaker 1: about Super Bowl futures for any team? Freeman? You first, Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 1: three three teams that catch my eye, the Dolphins, the Chargers,
- 37:27Speaker 1: and the Panthers all at long odds. All three of
- 37:30Speaker 1: them had very good, very sound drafts. They didn't reach,
- 37:34Speaker 1: and they filled significant positions of need. So if you
- 37:37Speaker 1: want to bet on, you know a team that's further
- 37:39Speaker 1: down the board, those are the three that catch my eye.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Agree with you on the Chargers. As we know, I've
- 37:46Speaker 1: already bet a third of the NFL teams on NFL futures.
- 37:50Speaker 1: The only one that I currently feel good about the
- 37:54Speaker 1: Los Angeles Chargers. Yeah, I did as well. Like a
- 37:57Speaker 1: Friday morning, I woke up and there were still four
- 37:59Speaker 1: year one and I think that was because of the
- 38:01Speaker 1: Rogers stuff with Denver, which I know we didn't get too,
- 38:04Speaker 1: but I do think that's complete bs. But it gave
- 38:06Speaker 1: me good odds and they bumped the charge all up
- 38:08Speaker 1: the four to once. It's like that. And then Friday
- 38:11Speaker 1: morning took the Browns against the Browns were plus a
- 38:13Speaker 1: thousands a f C. I didn't do Super Bowl because
- 38:15Speaker 1: I didn't love the odds. I don't think there is
- 38:17Speaker 1: a great plus a thousand and one n FC. I
- 38:18Speaker 1: liked those odds, so I took the Browns as well
- 38:20Speaker 1: because I thought they just had a great draft. Their
- 38:22Speaker 1: defense is just stacked. So love, love what the Browns
- 38:25Speaker 1: are doing. Well. Listen, the good news is it's May
- 38:30Speaker 1: and we have many months to talk about Rookie of
- 38:36Speaker 1: the Year odds, Conference odds, super Bowl odds, UH, MVP odds, um, UH,
- 38:44Speaker 1: Divisional odds, UH, season win totals. Now that the draft
- 38:48Speaker 1: is done, now that free agency is done, We're gonna
- 38:51Speaker 1: get O t A soon. We're gonna get mini camps.
- 38:54Speaker 1: We're gonna get training camps like we got a full
- 38:56Speaker 1: off season of NFL joy and a lot more to cover.
