- 0:00Speaker 1: So with the beat, Gina, we learned that on this
- 0:03day in nineteen seventy eighty eight, the movie Halloween was released. Yes,
- 0:10on many lists as one of the best Halloween movies
- 0:14of all time. Yes, but I saw this yesterday. Of course,
- 0:19people on the internet get wound up about very specific things.
- 0:23Speaker 2: And apparently the necessarily as a rule.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Apparently there's a Reddit thread where people like to debate
- 0:31Michael Myers. So, if you haven't seen Halloween, or if
- 0:34you've forgotten spoiler alert from the seventies. Yeah, he's six
- 0:40years old and he kills his sister six Yeah, okay,
- 0:45little kid.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I thought he was older. Why did he do that?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Well, that's debated too. I think it's because she was
- 0:51with her boyfriend and not taking him trig or treating.
- 0:53Speaker 3: That's what I always thought it was.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I have to confess, I don't think i've seen Halloween
- 0:59in two really.
- 1:03Speaker 1: So, so, at six years old, he is incarcerated or
- 1:07put in an institution. Okay, fast forward fifteen years later,
- 1:14he's being driven to like a court case or something
- 1:19with his doctor, and somehow he is able to steal
- 1:25the car and drive away.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Oh I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Okay, Katie, go ahead.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So he goes to a mental asylum as a child.
- 1:34He gets put there for the sixteen years. All of
- 1:37a sudden, when doctor Loomis and the nurse drive in
- 1:41to deal with Michael at that age, all of the
- 1:45mental patients are outside. Oh, they're wandering around and they
- 1:48don't understand why. And then they almost hit one of
- 1:52the patients swerving the car, stopping the car.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Michael jumps on top of the car, jumps on top
- 1:58of the jumps on top of the car, smashes the windows.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Is he responsible for the reason that all the patients
- 2:04are wandering around?
- 2:05Speaker 4: You can assume that, Yes, there's no actual like okay
- 2:08for sure thing, but yes you can assume that.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Or they were free range but so tastier that way.
- 2:15Speaker 1: But he steals the car and drives away. So people
- 2:18are like, okay, he was put in there when he
- 2:21was six years old, so he didn't know how to
- 2:24drive a car before. How does he know how to
- 2:28drive a car?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Well, they probably have. You know, what do they call it?
- 2:32You know things where you learn to do things to
- 2:35cope with life if you ever get out, you know.
- 2:38Speaker 1: A simulator.
- 2:39Speaker 3: It's never answered it's never answered.
- 2:42Speaker 5: Well, maybe he has access to television in the asylum
- 2:49and he's seen an episode of Chips where.
- 2:53Speaker 3: So does it really matter?
- 2:55Speaker 2: I mean, does it really matter?
- 2:56Speaker 3: Do people?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Do people go as they seem drive off in the car,
- 2:59they go, well, how do you know how to drive car?
- 3:01This movie is just totally unrealistic.
- 3:03Speaker 3: It's not the first time I've heard this.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Yeah, the fact that he can die, you're okay with that. Yeah,
- 3:08I guess that's the fact that he can drive, that's
- 3:10a problem.
- 3:11Speaker 1: But you've seen this somewhere else.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Well, if you go to Guardians of the Galaxy volume three,
- 3:15you remember Peter Quill was kidnapped and taken away at
- 3:19the age of like nine or ten or eleven, whatever
- 3:22it was. But when they come back to an earth
- 3:25like area where there are cars, earth like cars, he's
- 3:29able to drive it. Not great, but he's able to
- 3:31drive it because it's a very simple thing.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Are you saying that Peter Quill is actually Michael Meyer.
- 3:37That's a good theory. It's you put it in D
- 3:41for drive and go. I mean, so it's not that
- 3:44hard figure out.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Oh, if it was a stick shift, then then shift
- 3:49is anti theft now, Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I mean, do people bring this up because it ruins
- 3:54the movie for them somehow?
- 3:56Speaker 4: No. I think it's just the unanswered questions that the
- 3:59original Halloween leaves because by.
- 4:02Speaker 2: The way, again I haven't seen it forever. Where he
- 4:05gets to the car and drives away. Where's he go
- 4:07like to get an ice creamer?
- 4:08Speaker 4: So he goes back to Haddenfield so the met Yeah,
- 4:12that's the hadden Field Haddenfield, Illinois. He goes, he pulls
- 4:18off the side of the road, I assume because he
- 4:19ran out of gas out of the institute's car, steals
- 4:23a truck and a.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Jumpsuit from a guy. A truck, well, it kills the guy,
- 4:27steals a jumpsuit, and that's.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Where that's where he gets that kind of a truck.
- 4:32Speaker 3: It's like an old red it's not a semi or
- 4:35an old school red pickup truck.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Probably with a stick shift. So there you go.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Probably, But the original one leaves a lot of unanswered
- 4:44questions because it doesn't matter, well most of it.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Yeah, that's here's here's a here's a very simple blanket answer,
- 4:54very simple by the premise, by the kind of answer
- 4:57serial killer ingenuity. When you're determined you can do anything.
- 5:01Speaker 3: You know, that's fair.
- 5:04Speaker 4: You know that.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I had Trent Harris local film directors say to me
- 5:08one time when he was directing me in a movie,
- 5:11and you know, we'd shoot scenes and they sometimes they'd
- 5:13be weeks apart, and I'd say, Trent, I'm not sure
- 5:16I was wearing this shirt the same should Should I
- 5:19be wearing a different shirt, you know than the last
- 5:22when we're taking this And he said, Bill, if people
- 5:24are worried about what damn shirt you're wearing, we're just
- 5:27not doing a very good job with our movies.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Consistency thing is a thing, though, and my dad and
- 5:34I used to do this thing where we watched movies
- 5:36and we would pull out the inconsistent pieces a lot.
- 5:39Speaker 5: So let's say, oh, now, Jay in West Jordan says,
- 5:43the doctor says that Michael is a genius in one
- 5:45of the movies, so maybe that's why that's true.
- 5:48Speaker 3: He does say that he is very highly intelligent.
- 5:52Speaker 2: He didn't say evil genius.
- 5:54Speaker 4: But also doesn't speak, doesn't say a word things like that.
- 5:58Speaker 5: So now back to the when you're determined you can
- 6:01do anything comment. You imagine Michael Meyer sitting in front
- 6:05of the mirror like Stuart Smally saying you're strong enough,
- 6:11your killer enough, everyone is scared of you.
- 6:15Speaker 4: I would assume he says it in his head because
- 6:17he actually is like very well, he doesn't.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not speaking.
- 6:19Speaker 2: He doesn't speak.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Anyways. Thanks.
- 6:23Speaker 5: I enjoyed Halloween, although I've been thinking about it and
- 6:27I'm thinking that Texas Chainsaw might be It's better the.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Good.
- 6:34Speaker 1: You can see it on the big screen tonight at
- 6:37Suli Film Society.
- 6:38Speaker 5: And you don't have a Michael.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Meyer or leather Face is going to be added. I
- 6:42just added Chucky.
- 6:44Speaker 5: I've got You've got all the biggie.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Chucky was added just on the back arm. If you
- 6:49guys want to see some one there. It's a little
- 6:51weird angle.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I've got.
- 6:54Speaker 4: So I've got ghost Face, I've got Chucky, I have Freddy,
- 6:57which is signed.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Signed by by Robert England.
- 7:01Speaker 4: And then I have Michael in a in his kitchen
- 7:04knife on the back of my arm.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Leather Face is going to be added.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Along with where will leather Face go or.
- 7:11Speaker 4: We're figuring that one out, but he's probably going to go.
- 7:15Speaker 3: That's the worst part. My arms are kind of small
- 7:18and I don't and you.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Don't want to put it on the back because Bill
- 7:21is his first tattoo was on his back, and he's
- 7:24he counsels everyone, do not put a tattoo on your back.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You can't see it.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Well, I got my spinal piece done, so I want
- 7:30that to be my right before my wedding. I got
- 7:33that big spinal piece to and so I want that
- 7:35to be the highlight of my back. So I don't
- 7:37think I'm going to put too much more exactly, we'll
- 7:41do it. We'll just put leather face.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Bubba, you know.
- 7:48Speaker 5: I think I may watch the original again this weekend.
- 7:50Speaker 2: It's really good.
- 7:51Speaker 4: AMC's Fearfest is going on, and they've been showing both
- 7:54Halloween and all of the leather faces.
- 7:56Speaker 5: I do want to watch Alien Romulus tonight, though, I do.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Want to watch.
- 8:00Speaker 3: We'll report back, all right, thanks, thank you?
- 8:03Speaker 1: All right, there we go, okay, Hm
