Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:12Why don't you really say it's Scary Movie, The podcast where
- 0:14we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd in all
- 0:17of our favorite? And least favorite scary movies?
- 0:20Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its
- 0:22fanbase. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:24My name is Travis. My name's.
- 0:25Jesse and welcome everybody to our Child's Play coverage
- 0:30ending. Yeah, we have to say goodbye to
- 0:38Chucky this week. So yeah, starting it off on a
- 0:43somber note there. Jess is going to sing throughout
- 0:46the entire episode. This is going to be a solo
- 0:48episode and I'm going to be doing this all by myself.
- 0:52Friends forever. Because Jesse is that committed
- 0:56to the bit. I mean, I'm done now.
- 0:58You got to keep going now. I'm already.
- 1:01I'm committed to the bit now too.
- 1:02I don't. Remember the rest of the words?
- 1:03OK, that's just my commitment. Went as far as my knowledge base
- 1:07did. We are talking Child's Play
- 1:092019, everybody. We are talking the reboots,
- 1:13remake, whatever you want to call it.
- 1:15It's a brand new Chucky. It's a brand new story.
- 1:18We're going to talk about it. Yeah.
- 1:19But before we do, do you have any announcements?
- 1:22We did To Be or Not to Be over the weekend.
- 1:25Listen to that episode before you watch the movie.
- 1:28We don't normally say that. Just do it though.
- 1:30Just. Octagames.
- 1:32Yeah, not squid games. Octa games not practice.
- 1:37It's not time about practice, time about practice.
- 1:41Oh God, yeah, yeah. Listen to that one before you
- 1:43watch it. Just see it our warning.
- 1:45Yeah, like it's very much a draw your own conclusions, but I
- 1:49think in this case it's probably helps to like hear opinions
- 1:52before you. And it's it's Octa games.
- 1:55So like I'm assuming you can figure out what the general
- 1:57storyline is going to be. So.
- 1:59Not many spoilers there. If you think it's a spoof, think
- 2:02again. It's a speed off.
- 2:04It's a speed off, and that one you have to listen to the
- 2:09episode to get. OK, so all right, Yeah, we had
- 2:13that. I don't have a poll because, you
- 2:16know, we briefly thought about it there and then we could never
- 2:19just think of anything for the poll.
- 2:21And then it got put off to the point to where we just didn't do
- 2:24it. It's been a weird weekend.
- 2:26Yeah, it was a busy weekend on our end, a little bit
- 2:29disjointed. So yeah, unfortunately I don't
- 2:31have anything for Joyride too, but I hope everybody liked that
- 2:34movie. I hope, you know, give it a
- 2:36shot. It's a good little sequel.
- 2:39If you've not seen any of them, watch them.
- 2:40Watch them. Those are fantastic movies.
- 2:43I don't know so much about the third.
- 2:44You can do that. If you've gotten through one and
- 2:46two, go ahead and do 3. It is directed by Declan
- 2:49O'Brien. O'Connor may rest in peace so.
- 2:51So if you want to inject familiar with his work, if you
- 2:53want to inject a little bit of wrong turn into your joyride,
- 2:56there you go, you can do it. Wrong ride.
- 2:58Wrong ride joyride. Joy turn.
- 3:01Joy turn. I'm so confused now.
- 3:05Yeah. Joy turn.
- 3:06Yeah. OK, we'll just go with that.
- 3:07OK, OK. So with all of that, all the
- 3:10way, I think we are ready to talk about Child's.
- 3:13Play Yeah. OK, So Child's Play released
- 3:17June 21st, 2019. We watched it on Tubi, which
- 3:22that is where you can currently stream it as well as the Roku
- 3:26Channel for anybody that has that out there.
- 3:29You can rent it Pluto. TV.
- 3:31It's on a Pluto. It didn't show up to me it.
- 3:33Was when I googled it, weird? Could be it could be there.
- 3:38Hold on. Check it.
- 3:39It wasn't on my just watch whenever I looked that up.
- 3:41So. So yeah.
- 3:43You can rent it on Amazon, Plex, YouTube or Fandango at home.
- 3:47Written by Tyler Burton Smith, directed by Lars Klevberg, Music
- 3:51by Jason La Rocha. La Rocha.
- 3:55I can't you know either one of those Jason La Rocha and Bear
- 3:59McCreary special effects makeup by Masters Effects and Pixo
- 4:04Mondo starring Aubrey Plaza as Karen.
- 4:10We have to cherish this cast because this is going to be the
- 4:13probably one and only time we'll get a lot of these people in a
- 4:17horror movie for us to talk about South Aubrey Plaza as
- 4:20Karen, Gabriel Bateman as Andy. We'll get to.
- 4:25Talk about, we will get to talk about him because we're going to
- 4:27talk about on him. At some point, yeah.
- 4:29Mark Hamill as Chucky, Brian Tyree Henry as Detective, Mike,
- 4:36Carlyce Burke as Doreen, Beatrice Kitsos as Fallon and Ty
- 4:42Castiglio as Pug. I really hope that's like a
- 4:47stage name she chose because it's very close to Beatrice
- 4:50Kiddo. It is, yeah, time for our
- 4:53favorite game on the show. Budget or budget?
- 4:59I remember there's been a lot of hype around this movie coming
- 5:01out. I think this is one of those
- 5:03rare like budget. Budget Child's Play movies.
- 5:06You are correct. This one is actually at the
- 5:09threshold for budget. It's a $10 million budget.
- 5:12Nice. And it came out around the same
- 5:15time as Toy Story 4. Yeah, it did.
- 5:17Yeah. So.
- 5:17I remember joking that we were going to go see that movie about
- 5:19talking toys. Yeah.
- 5:21Yeah, I forgot about that. OK.
- 5:24So the opening box office was $14 million, so pretty solid.
- 5:28We were there I think on opening weekend, weren't we?
- 5:31I think we were. Yeah, it was opening weekend.
- 5:34We're very shortly after. Yeah.
- 5:35Worldwide gross 45,000,000 OK IMDb score 5.7.
- 5:42You know. Pretty good, right?
- 5:44I I was bracing myself. I was expecting it to be lower
- 5:47too, but no 5.7 I'm pleasantly surprised. 5 point ship.
- 5:52OK, all right, so I got a theme for 2019 horror movies and I
- 5:57feel pretty good about this one. All right.
- 5:59I'm excited to hear your theme. So we have some interesting
- 6:03casting choices for this movie. Most notably, we have Mark
- 6:07Hamill doing Chucky, which is amazing casting.
- 6:11Yes, and he's such a talented voice actor.
- 6:13He is, yes. So in order to celebrate that, I
- 6:16have 3 movies in 2019. Horror movies that feature Star
- 6:21Wars actors. I love that.
- 6:24Theme yeah, it's pretty cool. And I'm.
- 6:25I was worried I had two runaways, like, OK, I got to
- 6:28find a third and I had to go deep diving for that third one,
- 6:31but I got it. So number one, this is one that
- 6:35you and I just watched last week.
- 6:36Doctor Sleep we get Owen McGregor.
- 6:40Yeah, as Danny, Obi Wan. Obi Wan Danny.
- 6:44Yeah. So Doctor Sleep came out October
- 6:4721st 2019. Budget was 45 to 55,000,000.
- 6:52OK couldn't get an exact figure. Worldwide gross 72 million, IMDb
- 6:577.3. I am still processing my
- 6:59feelings about that movie adaptation.
- 7:01Yeah, so we watched it for the first time.
- 7:04I just read the book for the first time.
- 7:06Jesse and I was also on the same page with her I We thought it
- 7:10was going to be a more faithful adaptation to the book.
- 7:13The 1st 2:00. Thirds are really good.
- 7:15Turned out actually being a sequel to the movie.
- 7:18Yeah. So I loved it because I've only
- 7:20seen the movie. I've never read the book.
- 7:22And then watching that movie, I was like, oh, man, this is
- 7:24great. I And look, here's the thing.
- 7:28I'm not normally a Mike Flanagan guy.
- 7:30Like, I know he's got huge fans out there and I respect what he
- 7:33does, but usually his stuff doesn't really translate to me.
- 7:35But I this movie fucking killed. Like, I love this movie.
- 7:39It was really, really good. I think it's really good.
- 7:41I just was not prepared for the massive deviations at the end.
- 7:46But I also think it was kind of doing some like retroactive
- 7:51justice for The Shining is my little pet theory for it.
- 7:54Do you? Wanna I I actually heard like
- 7:57saw a 'cause I looked it up and apparently he ended the movie
- 8:01The way he did because he he thought of it as like an apology
- 8:07like sport to Stephen King for how the movie should have ended
- 8:11in the 1st. One, and that's what I said.
- 8:12I was like, Oh no, this is The Shining's ending.
- 8:15Yeah, he confirmed it. He's like, I did it because I
- 8:17felt like he needed to have that.
- 8:18Done. The dialogue is direct from the
- 8:20book The Shining. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:22That's a mask, false face direct from the book.
- 8:26So I he caught it. Yeah.
- 8:28I just, I have a lot, like I said, I have complicated
- 8:31feelings about it. I need to sit on it.
- 8:32For a little bit. So this is just a little pointer
- 8:35out there for you people don't read.
- 8:37You'll have a good life. You won't have as many
- 8:40conflicting feelings about media.
- 8:41Just be a dumb bastard like me. OK movie #2 The dead don't die,
- 8:51we get Adam Driver. Oh.
- 8:53OK, oh, I. Was thinking like original
- 8:56trilogy or original prequels. Mr. Kylo Ren himself, right
- 9:00here? Yep.
- 9:02So I wish I could have gotten that, but no, like everybody
- 9:06else is we we get. Some no, you're fine.
- 9:08I just like from it. I was like.
- 9:11What? He's a very big character in the
- 9:12whole story. Yes, No, he's very in the new
- 9:15trilogy. Yeah, he's.
- 9:16He's critical. He's my favorite character from
- 9:18the entire thing, honestly. Well, in the 1st movie.
- 9:21The other two movies you'd kind of be he, he.
- 9:27Falls into that little paradigm of pretentious little sad boys.
- 9:30Yeah, he does. He.
- 9:31Becomes a little sad boy. Could have been the scars, board
- 9:34scars, board scars guard. Scars, Lord.
- 9:39Scars, Lord. OK.
- 9:42That's like the new edition and the new trilogy that's coming
- 9:45out. OK, so that released June 14th,
- 9:492019, $2.5 million budget worldwide.
- 9:53Gross 15,000,000. I thought you meant Star Wars
- 9:55for minute. Oh God no, I was.
- 9:57Like 2.5 dead don't die, OK? Yeah, I'm happy for them to get
- 10:01that budget for that. Yeah, two and a half million.
- 10:02I mean, the guy is an established filmmaker.
- 10:04Yeah, apparently makes very weird movies.
- 10:08And from what I've seen from everybody that has talked about
- 10:11this movie, because, like, everybody's like, I get why
- 10:12people don't like it. I love it.
- 10:14I personally don't like it. Jesse loves it.
- 10:16Yeah, but like, apparently it's due to the guy's style and
- 10:20everybody says this is his most accessible movie that he makes.
- 10:24So anything else from Jim Jarmusch or something like that?
- 10:28I can't remember what his last name was.
- 10:31It's weird shit. So the 5.5 is the rating for
- 10:36that IMDb. That's like I said, that's fair.
- 10:38I remember my older sister text me that she goes, this seems
- 10:40like the type of movie you would love.
- 10:42And I was like, oh, I love it. Travis hates it.
- 10:44I think you would love it. Like it's one of those.
- 10:47It's very much like I get why the score is what it is, because
- 10:50it's probably a bunch of ones and 10s.
- 10:52Yeah, on. The ratings.
- 10:54Yeah, I anytime the movie's brought up, I do always have to
- 10:57mention the one good thing about it, and it's the scene of Adam
- 11:00Driver driving up in the Smart Car.
- 11:01Yeah, I was gonna say, Adam Driver is probably also your
- 11:03favorite part of this movie, too.
- 11:05Yeah, not even Bill Murray. Adam Driver is the best part of
- 11:07this. Yeah.
- 11:09OK. And the final movie.
- 11:11Oh. My God, his last name's driver
- 11:14and he loved the scene where he's driving.
- 11:16I've always made that connection in my head.
- 11:18Yeah, 'cause he's always, you know, he's driving, driver
- 11:22driving. OK, so final movie.
- 11:25OK, three from hell. Oh, Rob.
- 11:30Zombies film. You wanna, you want me to tell
- 11:34you who the Star Wars person this year?
- 11:36Yes. Clint Howard.
- 11:39Which Star Wars movie is Clint Howard?
- 11:42One that you have not seen he is in the solo Han Solo story.
- 11:47The Han Solo movie that has like a Danny or Danny Glover is like
- 11:54the one dude in it. Yeah, I can't.
- 11:58I'm not a Star Wars guy, people. I'm sorry.
- 12:01But yeah, so he's a character in that.
- 12:04Like I said, I had to go diving for somebody.
- 12:06I mean, I didn't question it because Clint Howard's in
- 12:08fucking. Everything.
- 12:09That's why I went to him. I'm like Clint Howard,
- 12:11guarantee. He's got to be in something Star
- 12:13Wars related. He's going to be like a big
- 12:15character or something, but he's going to be there.
- 12:17And I knew it. I fucking.
- 12:18Called it. I love that man.
- 12:20I know, me too. All right, so that released
- 12:23September 16th, 2019 $3,000,000 Budget OK 2.2 million gross 5.4
- 12:31IMDb. Rob Zombie is also very divisive
- 12:33I feel like. He often times doesn't get big
- 12:37no numbers, but I remember like as I think this one even they're
- 12:42usually really limited releases. Yeah, this one probably recouped
- 12:46the cost with the streaming and DVD.
- 12:47We own it on DVD. Yeah, I was gonna say, I feel
- 12:49like we're some of the few who, like, make a point of going to
- 12:52see Rob Zombie movies in theaters.
- 12:54I love his stuff I yeah but I get why his is not accessible.
- 12:58To his is a very specific kind of style.
- 13:01Yeah, it's my style. Yeah.
- 13:03OK. So on the tag lines.
- 13:08OK, All right. So I got a couple here.
- 13:10OK, A. Handful.
- 13:12Yeah, yeah, I think it's actually for each finger.
- 13:17Got five of them right here. And a lot of them are kind of
- 13:22all the same, just different rewording.
- 13:24So First off, more than a toy, he's your best friend.
- 13:31OK. The boy's best friend.
- 13:35That's dogs, OK. Friends to the end.
- 13:39This is the end, friend. Prepare to meet your new best
- 13:43friend. I think that would be like a fun
- 13:46tagline because it is kind of like.
- 13:49A new introduction, new Chucky. Yeah, and finally, play time is
- 13:54over. I feel like a lot of these were
- 13:57just like like redos of the original child's Play lines.
- 14:03Kind of, yeah. And there was one that was
- 14:05actually on the poster that is just from the producers of IT.
- 14:10OK, not even Stephen King. You can't even say Stephen King.
- 14:13Just say it. Well, I think they mean the
- 14:15like. The movie, yeah.
- 14:17Yeah, cuz it was like a big thing at this time.
- 14:21OK, so that's it for that. I think we can move on to fun
- 14:23facts now. OK, I wanna hear all about it.
- 14:29OK, tell. Me all your thoughts on buddy.
- 14:36OK, so I'm in a weird mood right now.
- 14:44All right, so it was first announced in the early 20 tens,
- 14:47before a Curse of Chucky even came out.
- 14:50Oh, wow. OK.
- 14:51But it ended up being quietly cancelled.
- 14:54MGM ended up revitalizing the whole thing.
- 14:58They announced a new one in July of 2018 with a whole new
- 15:03creative team. So with the help of producers
- 15:08Seth Graham Smith and David Kalzenberg, I think that's the
- 15:12name. Yep, those are the producers of
- 15:14it. They were able to assemble the
- 15:17cast for this movie. So they started off with Aubrey
- 15:20Plaza Bateman and Brian Tyree Henry.
- 15:26And then after that, they shot the shot.
- 15:29And they're like, all right, let's ask.
- 15:31Let's ask Mark Hamill. Choice number one.
- 15:34I got a quote from that whole process.
- 15:36Yeah. Graham Smith says we asked,
- 15:39thinking there was no way whatever happened, and he said
- 15:41yes, he was the first choice, a big swing, and it just happened.
- 15:45I mean, first of all, to have an icon reimagining an iconic
- 15:48character and it is an incredible gift.
- 15:51And to have an actor and voice performer who is as celebrated
- 15:54as Mark Hamill and as gifted as he is, I mean, it's incredible.
- 15:57He's taking on this challenge with a huge amount of energy and
- 16:00really come at it in a very serious way.
- 16:03And it's really something to watch him create a character and
- 16:05sort of embody it. And I get to sit there and watch
- 16:08Mark Hamill record. It's just incredible.
- 16:11It's funny that you're talking about all this Mark Hamill stuff
- 16:13and you brought up Stephen King because of it.
- 16:16There was like this whole thing going on where like Mark Hamill,
- 16:19I guess he was involved in a recent adaptation of a different
- 16:21Stephen King book. Oh really?
- 16:23And he was so excited about it. And then he was like just
- 16:25tweeting about how excited he was about Stephen King and like
- 16:28he was seated near him at like an award ceremony or something.
- 16:31And like, like Stephen King was like tweeting back about like
- 16:34how excited he was to be seated near Mark Hamill.
- 16:36It was like a little bro fest happening.
- 16:38I fucking. Love Mark Hamill man, he's so
- 16:41look, if you're going to get anybody to replace Brad Duriff,
- 16:46Mark Hamill is one of the most talented voice actors out there
- 16:50in the game. He is so fucking good.
- 16:52Yeah, I was going to say the 1-2 punch of him in Aubrey Plaza for
- 16:55me, like. That's enough to absolve them of
- 16:57any of. This like I will absolutely give
- 17:00this a chance. You don't have any.
- 17:01You don't have Brad Duriff, but you have Aubrey Plaza and Mark
- 17:04Hamill. OK, just let's let's do it that
- 17:09we're on a Queen slate there. Yeah, that's a good way to do.
- 17:12It and like we said last week, go into this open heart, open
- 17:15mind. OK, back to your fun facts.
- 17:16Sorry. You're good.
- 17:18All right, so Masters effects took six weeks to prepare and
- 17:21assemble 7 animatronic puppets, and they were all practical too.
- 17:26So all of the stuff in this is like actual functioning
- 17:28animatronic puppetry that they're doing there.
- 17:31Each one of them came with interchangeable arms and hands,
- 17:34and they all performed a myriad of different actions that were
- 17:38required for the character. OK, so I think that that's
- 17:42pretty cool. We actually, we are now at the
- 17:44age of these movies where they can make fully functional
- 17:48machines. Like I thought that was one of
- 17:51the coolest things about watching this movie.
- 17:53Usually when they like, even with the more recent Chucky
- 17:56movies, when he walks, it's still clearly like a puppet type
- 17:59thing, but it's right here. We had scenes of him walking
- 18:02with Andy and it's just like he's actually walking, which was
- 18:05super impressive. I thought they did a great job
- 18:07with that. Bear McCreary composed a score
- 18:11with a toy orchestra, meaning he had a toy piano.
- 18:15Hurdy Gurdy's accordions, plastic guitars and automatons.
- 18:21I love that. That's so fun.
- 18:24Isn't that cool? I would never even like, I have
- 18:27to go back and listen to that now because I want to, like,
- 18:29notice that. I didn't notice it when we were
- 18:31watching this last night, but that's super cool.
- 18:34They named the dolls Buddy Dolls instead of Good Guy Dolls as a
- 18:39reference to the original inspiration of the dolls, which
- 18:42are the My Buddy dolls. Yeah.
- 18:44This movie released on the same day as Toy Story 4, as you
- 18:47mentioned, so in order to get some good marketing going, they
- 18:51released several posters of Chucky back in April brutally
- 18:55killing the Toy Story characters.
- 18:58No, I want to look up some of these posters right now because
- 19:02I've never seen these, I don't think.
- 19:04I want to see these. I mean, I don't, but I do, you
- 19:08know? Yeah, it's probably upsetting,
- 19:11but also kind of awesome. I remember these.
- 19:14Yeah, yeah. OK.
- 19:17They're not that graphic. OK, so there's one of like,
- 19:20what? He's standing there.
- 19:23Oh, no. And he just walks back and he
- 19:25it's just like his hat and his hand hanging on it.
- 19:27He's a story, but it's a sad one.
- 19:29Then Buzz, he's got his feet there off and he's just kind of
- 19:34off screen and Chucky's holding a ray gun to him right there.
- 19:38Oh, the Piggy Bank. He's got the hammer and he's
- 19:41busted. No, that's graphic.
- 19:43That is graphic. T Rex is fried with the
- 19:48magnifying glass. Oh fuck.
- 19:51This is getting worse the more we go on.
- 19:53Do we have Swinky? Oh, Swinky is being roasted of a
- 19:56hot dog. Oh, oh man, my.
- 20:01Feelings are hurt. That's it.
- 20:03Those are them. Wait, wait.
- 20:04There's Mr. Potato Head. He's just got a knife in his
- 20:07head. How you gonna do Rex?
- 20:10Like. That but peep what happened to
- 20:12you. She's just there.
- 20:14She made it. She didn't get hurt.
- 20:16Man. Man, the fucking Piggy Bank is
- 20:19the worst one. Yeah.
- 20:20What's that character's name again?
- 20:21Pig. No piggy.
- 20:25Piggy Bank. No, now I can't remember his
- 20:27fucking name. Wink.
- 20:29No. What's the pig in story?
- 20:35Toy. Toy Story called?
- 20:38Pam Yeah. OK.
- 20:40Yeah. Oh man, that one was upsetting.
- 20:42Yeah, well if it makes you feel any better to put it on a level
- 20:47playing field, they also did ones for Annabelle which came
- 20:50out on June 26th, so like the next week after of him killing
- 20:54Annabelle as well. Annabelle's evil, though.
- 20:57Exactly. That's what I'm saying.
- 20:58Like that one that's, you know, people can live with that one.
- 21:03All right? So I wanted to close this thing
- 21:06off with our boy, the guy that started it all, Don Mancini, and
- 21:10see what he thought on the whole thing.
- 21:12Thank you, I am very curious to hear his perspective.
- 21:15OK, well he's not a fan, did not like it.
- 21:19I've got a whole quote here from OK this is when this is before
- 21:23the movie released. This is an interview with Bloody
- 21:25discussing MGM retained the rights the 1st movie.
- 21:28So they were booting that. They asked David Kirschner and I
- 21:32if we wanted to be executive producers.
- 21:34We said no thank you because we have our on our our ongoing
- 21:38thriving business with the Chucky.
- 21:40Obviously my feelings were hurt. You know I had just done 2
- 21:43movies. Forgive me if I sound defensive.
- 21:46We're both 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 21:48Even though they didn't get theatrical releases, they were
- 21:50well regarded and I did create the character and nurture the
- 21:54franchise for three fucking decades.
- 21:57So when someone says, Oh yeah, we would love to have your name
- 22:00on the film, it was hard not to feel like I was being
- 22:03patronized. They just wanted our approval,
- 22:06which I strenuously denied them. I hesitate to say too much about
- 22:10it because I don't want to sound like I'm belly aching too much,
- 22:13but they're producers of that movie are the producers of It.
- 22:16How would they feel if there was some legal loophole that allowed
- 22:20David Kirchner and I had to swoop in and make our own IT
- 22:23movie with our own version of Pennywise and say, hey, guys, we
- 22:25would love to put your names on it?
- 22:27I imagine they wouldn't like it. That's how I feel.
- 22:30The people who are making that movie, they don't know how
- 22:32that's going to affect my livelihood.
- 22:34It's not just a paycheck. It's my very personal, oh, it's
- 22:38very personal. MGM screwing with that
- 22:41potentially. OK, so that's how he ends it.
- 22:45So from what I've seen, and I looked at online discussions
- 22:47about this, and one of the things that he was also kind of
- 22:51upset with is this was kind of coinciding with his whole thing
- 22:55with the Chucky TV series, which, you know, that's if
- 23:01you're bringing in this new Chucky and it's gonna be maybe
- 23:05garnering like new fans and they see that Chucky, they're maybe
- 23:08gonna want this new Chucky, the different, the buddy Chucky,
- 23:12Yeah, that they're doing instead of like going to the TV show.
- 23:15So yeah, he was kind of not a big fan of the whole thing.
- 23:19Felt like he got screwed over a bit.
- 23:21So yeah, a little bit of a downer there for the fun facts,
- 23:24but I thought it was important to see how you.
- 23:26Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 23:28OK, so yeah, that's it for fun facts.
- 23:31So let's get on into our good, bad, ugly, absurd.
- 23:34OK all. Right.
- 23:36So my good, the casting I think is good.
- 23:40There's a lot of really good humor.
- 23:42We we discovered that Bateman was 1415 at the time of filming.
- 23:48We would have guessed 9 or 10. That blew our minds, which
- 23:53that's like looking young. It's a gift as an actor.
- 23:56So that's not to make fun of him, but it's just like we were
- 24:00kind of caught off guard. He's.
- 24:01Going to be like Jonathan from Terrifier where he's just going
- 24:04to be like a kid until he's in college.
- 24:07So I, I, I think that the kids were at the right age for the
- 24:12types of jokes they were doing were really funny.
- 24:15Like the whole like this one's for Tupac or they're like
- 24:18teaching him to like scare shame and like cursing and making him
- 24:23say things like Dick cheese. Like, all of that feels very
- 24:26like, realistic. My favorite is whenever
- 24:30Detective Mike is walking by and they're like the fuzz is here or
- 24:33whatever, or like, what was it that they say I didn't?
- 24:37I don't know exactly. Like play it, play it like cool
- 24:40it out, like be quiet, the fuzz is here.
- 24:42And then he's like says out loud, play it cool.
- 24:44The fuzz is here. I don't.
- 24:45Think they say the fuzz because. That's what I'm saying.
- 24:48I'm trying. I don't know the like what it
- 24:50was actually said, but that's the gist of it.
- 24:52Like hey, chill the fuck out, cops here and Truckee basically
- 24:54boards out. Hey chill the fuck out, cops
- 24:56here. And like, Mike sees and he's
- 24:58like fucking kids. Yeah, there's just like a lot of
- 25:02good things. I think there's a funny moment
- 25:03too, where like Andy, it was like it was Andy Sup and Chucky.
- 25:09He was calling him Andy Sup. Nice to meet you, Andy.
- 25:11Sup. That's funny.
- 25:13And he tries to name him Han Solo, and he goes, Did you say
- 25:15Chucky? Yeah, that was a good little
- 25:19Easter egg, right? There like, there's a lot of
- 25:21really funny moments like that and it's not like distractingly
- 25:25funny, it's just there. It's not like it Chapter 2, if
- 25:29we're going to be talking about the producers of it where they
- 25:32were like, oh, let's make this really funny, funny, funny.
- 25:35But this movie, like it balanced all that stuff.
- 25:38They had like a good, they had the UPS and the downs.
- 25:41Yeah, yeah. And I think it also had like a
- 25:44lot of good heart moments, like, you know, Andy and Karen, like
- 25:48they're really relationship. And I like that we get to see
- 25:50Andy at a different age too, because you do see that
- 25:53progression in in that relationship for their family
- 25:56dynamic. Yeah.
- 25:57And I think that that was important.
- 26:00I liked their dynamic and this better than the first one.
- 26:05I felt like it was more believable.
- 26:07Yeah. Well, I mean, it's like, it's,
- 26:09it's more relatable. Yeah.
- 26:11And like he's at an age where like, you know, as opposed to
- 26:14like adorable little tiny Andy. And we've talked about how much
- 26:18we love him, but like, Dang, this kid is putting a lot of
- 26:21pressure on himself. It makes a little bit more sense
- 26:23for Andy at this age to kind of be more aware of why he's
- 26:26putting this pressure on himself.
- 26:27The. Middle schooler.
- 26:28Yeah. Something like that, yeah.
- 26:30So I just I and I think it's I'll talk about this more in the
- 26:36ugly, but I think that this does a good enough job of being a
- 26:39completely separate thing. We're the only thing that's
- 26:41really in common are like the names of the characters and the
- 26:45fact that it's a killer doll. Yeah.
- 26:48Yeah, I think it is almost like a different enough story, like
- 26:53it's a different enough retelling to separate it.
- 26:55They make it their own thing. Get confused, Yeah.
- 26:57Yeah. They, they they set themselves
- 26:59apart, which I appreciate. Yeah.
- 27:02OK. Is that if you're good?
- 27:04Yeah. All right, am I good?
- 27:07I, I loved how they modernized Chucky in this year.
- 27:12Like they made him a whole other type of doll, like where he like
- 27:16connects to Wi-Fi and stuff. It's very much a product that
- 27:20would be released today. Yes, absolutely, absolutely.
- 27:24You would get a doll like that and be like we can connect to
- 27:26your existing like Apple products or like Google Blink
- 27:31products or you know, whatever. Yeah, it's, it's really neat.
- 27:35I thought that they did a great job with that.
- 27:37Apparently they said that they did like the buddy with an eye
- 27:39at the end to like get the like Wi-Fi type thing where it can
- 27:43connect with the Internet and stuff.
- 27:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, That makes sense.
- 27:47Yeah. And like you, I thought it like
- 27:49set itself apart and it did its own thing.
- 27:53Like it really, really well. Like it.
- 27:56I don't I I feel like I'm watching a different movie, yes
- 28:00than the child's play movies, which really that's what I want
- 28:03with this right here. I don't want them to beat for
- 28:05beat remake the first Child's Play because like, if I want to
- 28:08do that, I'm just going to watch Child's Play.
- 28:10Yeah. Yeah, I like the new Chucky's
- 28:14personality in this. I thought that that is a great
- 28:17twist on this right here, because in the original, Chucky
- 28:20is just a serial killer that is trying to take over Andy's body.
- 28:23But in this right here, he's just trying to like he's seeking
- 28:26his approval the entire time. And that's the thing like the,
- 28:30the whole AI thing is so like relevant to today's discussions.
- 28:36So like having that AI like go bad.
- 28:38I mean, it's a story we've been telling for decades now, but
- 28:41it's more, it's more and more. Yeah, like it's a thing that's
- 28:44actually happening. But I and it back to that humor
- 28:47thing like there's that great moment because we'd seen the
- 28:49like commercial where he was like, don't forget your science
- 28:52book. And this buddy is trying to do
- 28:55the same things like don't forget your science book and
- 28:57he's hanging him off a roll of toilet paper.
- 28:59Dude, I. Love that so much.
- 29:01See, the other great thing about this Chucky is they, they make
- 29:05him broken. Yeah.
- 29:07It gives him like these little quirks that sets them apart from
- 29:10all the other ones where he's like, he's like it's own thing.
- 29:13Like he will like, hey, I made a present for you and it's just
- 29:15like a broken stick with a bow on it.
- 29:17Yeah. He's like, I love that.
- 29:18I would love that so much if that was my toy because that
- 29:21means more to me than if he like actually went and got me a real
- 29:24present. Yeah.
- 29:25I'm like, oh man, this guy just loves me.
- 29:26Yeah. He loves me off to give me.
- 29:28Yeah, he's, he's a broken little guy.
- 29:30He's. He's trying.
- 29:32He's. Oh my God, this buddy doll is
- 29:35Zoe. Oh my God.
- 29:37She knows what she's supposed to do as a cat but doesn't really
- 29:40understand and she's just trying her best.
- 29:42You're right. This is Zoe.
- 29:44Yeah, Like, and that's the thing.
- 29:46Like they make him sympathetic in this movie.
- 29:49I feel sorry for him. Yeah, there were multiple times
- 29:53that we looked at each other last night.
- 29:54We were like, oh. Yeah, like I, I it's like, kudos
- 30:01to them for making Chucky an actual sympathetic character,
- 30:04somebody that I care about. Yeah.
- 30:06Whenever I watch Chucky before, I don't care for him, you know,
- 30:09I enjoy watching him. He's fun to he's.
- 30:12Entertaining. He's not complicatedly a bad
- 30:15guy. But when something bad happens
- 30:16to him or you get stabbed or shoved in the trash or
- 30:18something, I you know, it's funny, yeah, but here I'm sad.
- 30:22Oh, he's yeah, he didn't. Mean to he just wants you to
- 30:24love him he wants to be your best friend he's.
- 30:27A dumb little computer. Yeah, so I like honestly, like
- 30:32all of the credit goes to them for actually doing this.
- 30:35This is these are the things that make this thing stand apart
- 30:38and make it a good adaptation. Yeah, in my opinion.
- 30:42And one last thing, it's a minor thing, but I really think it's
- 30:45cool for the character. He's walking out the gate.
- 30:48Yeah. So whenever he is like, you
- 30:49know, we don't have to, like, disguise his walking and
- 30:52maneuvering around the entire time he's out and about no
- 30:54matter what. Yeah.
- 30:55So that's already out out there. We don't have to worry about
- 30:57that being introduced as a story element.
- 31:00So I thought that that was really cool and allowed us to
- 31:02get to the action without having to, like, play these little
- 31:05games the entire time. Like, we know the fucking
- 31:07character walks. Let's just have him walk, yeah?
- 31:10And then we we find that tension in other ways.
- 31:12And I think that also makes sense if you're doing a remake
- 31:14in 2019 where we know technology is more advanced, we know kids
- 31:18aren't going to just play with normal regular, like non moving
- 31:21dolls anymore. Like yeah, it makes sense to
- 31:23adapt it for the times. Yeah.
- 31:26So yeah, like, super impressed with how this movie handled
- 31:29itself. Yeah.
- 31:30All right. Bad stuff.
- 31:34They did Aubrey dirty with her makeup.
- 31:37It's so bad and so distracting the entire time.
- 31:39You think of the like tracks with the character though she's
- 31:42a stressed out mom. I don't it's like her face
- 31:46makeup is like 3 shades darker than her neck.
- 31:49You've been noticing this a lot lately on people.
- 31:51What if it's a new TV? Yeah, like something in our TV
- 31:55settings are just like highlighting how bad makeup.
- 31:57Like foundation, it might just be because it's bigger.
- 32:00Like now. Yeah, I can actually see the
- 32:01makeup. Yeah, I mean that and also like
- 32:07I appreciate they gave us a new design of the doll, but second
- 32:10least favorite design behind the one in Curse of Chucky.
- 32:14So my bad. Just to jump in here with you, I
- 32:18wrote down hate the new look. Yeah.
- 32:20Then I crossed it out and I wrote it grows on you like,
- 32:24because as I'm watching, I'm like, you know what?
- 32:26I don't hate it. I don't really hate it anymore.
- 32:28It looks bad in posters and then stills, but once you're actually
- 32:32watching the movie, I actually I think it works again.
- 32:35It sets itself apart. No, I'm I don't agree.
- 32:41OK, that's fair. I'm glad it's different and I'm
- 32:44glad that with like the releases, they've got like the
- 32:46Buddy too that's coming out. They've got the different
- 32:48designs that are gonna be there and I'm very excited to.
- 32:51I want to talk about one of them in my absurd, but I yeah, OK,
- 32:57that's fair. I'm not a fan.
- 33:01Man, my bad. I don't really have too much.
- 33:11I feel like it's weird to jam like the automated cars into the
- 33:15thing at some point. I guess it was just like a
- 33:17device to get a kill for buddy for Chucky.
- 33:20But like it was weird. They kind of like tried to like
- 33:23Fist. That thing in there like is
- 33:27Fist. The verb you really wanted to
- 33:29use. It's not, but it happened and
- 33:33I'm going to, I'm going to die on the hill.
- 33:35This is in there. I just like, I don't know, I
- 33:42felt forced. I can't really say too much bad
- 33:46though. Like really, there's really just
- 33:48not much that I didn't I didn't care for.
- 33:52OK. I will say one additional thing
- 33:55is that I do think it's maybe a little bit unbelievable that
- 33:57everybody's got Caslon products, especially like this housing
- 34:03area that seems like maybe it's lower income.
- 34:06Yeah. The fact that they would all
- 34:07have stuff that connects to the Caslon cloud just feels a little
- 34:11unrealistic to me. Unless it's like the affordable
- 34:13brand. Maybe.
- 34:15Yeah, it could be like the Walmart brand of like, you know,
- 34:18AI technology. Because like, I thought that was
- 34:21going to be why he couldn't connect to the cloud at first,
- 34:23because it would be like, Oh, well, we don't have any other
- 34:25Caslon products that would have, that would have been smart,
- 34:27yeah. That would have been
- 34:28interesting, but you. Know it is what it is.
- 34:33OK. Ugly OK, so obviously the whole
- 34:36thing with Don Mancini, I I do like this movie.
- 34:38I will defend it as not being a bad movie, but the beef behind
- 34:41the scenes I do think kind of taints it a little bit for me.
- 34:46I mean, I hate that for him because I get it.
- 34:49This is his character. This is his baby.
- 34:50It's his franchise. And he has said it's very
- 34:52personal for him, especially that first one when he wrote it,
- 34:55like he was pulling a lot from some of his own experiences
- 34:57growing up in a single parent household like.
- 35:01I think he was involved in the original remake that they were
- 35:06gonna be doing too, but they moved on, I guess because he
- 35:09just started doing his own thing.
- 35:11Yeah, so I just, I like, it's complicated because I like this
- 35:17movie and I do think it's good, but I don't like what it does
- 35:21for Don Mancini cuz he's he's built an entire franchise and
- 35:26one that has been celebrated. But I also think this one's
- 35:28different enough, and luckily it didn't end up hurting the Chucky
- 35:33franchise. No, I didn't.
- 35:34And that's I guess his concern also was like, what if they do
- 35:38sequels? Yeah and stuff which that could
- 35:40really box him out cuz his movie's not getting but like
- 35:44theatrical releases. These movies are.
- 35:46Yeah, I can see it. I mean, at the same time, like,
- 35:52I don't know, like these movies, like, like any horror franchise
- 35:58has one of these, but it never, it never overtakes the original
- 36:02stuff. Yeah.
- 36:04Any time the original person is involved with anything, that
- 36:07always, like, elevates with the community.
- 36:10People are more interested to see.
- 36:11Like if John Carpenter came back for a Halloween movie, people
- 36:15are like, oh, I'm gonna fucking watch that.
- 36:17Yeah. You know, like, I get where he's
- 36:20coming from, but at the same time, I don't like, I mean, it's
- 36:23still like it, it's even making it a thing for other people.
- 36:28Like, it's still, it's making the brand out there.
- 36:31People will be like child's play.
- 36:32OK, let's watch the movies then let's go back and revisit these.
- 36:35Oh, hey, they still have a whole other set of movies going on
- 36:38from the original storyline. What are these about?
- 36:40You know, yeah, I can understand where he's coming from, but at
- 36:44the same time I think he, like it also could have helped.
- 36:48And I think maybe some of that bitterness is that he didn't get
- 36:50to release his other movies theatrically.
- 36:52I think that's part of it, yeah. Honestly, I love Don missing.
- 36:55I mean. I think it's probably kind of
- 36:56part of that whole, like, Hollywood only does remakes
- 36:58anymore. Like, yeah.
- 37:00This is like past that time, Yeah.
- 37:02But yeah, like I just like, I get it.
- 37:06But at the same time, I don't think it this is as bad as he
- 37:09was making it out to be. But then again, something I
- 37:13think, and I'm not going through that whole thing.
- 37:15So for him it probably was that bad.
- 37:18But we're speaking in hindsight here, really.
- 37:21That's that's the big thing there.
- 37:22And. I'm going to say the other ugly
- 37:24is just Shane. Yeah, Shane, he was in my
- 37:27uglies. Too.
- 37:27He was already terrible and then like at one point I was like oh
- 37:30you fucking bastard because I forgot how his storyline ends.
- 37:34I know, I forgot about that too. Yeah.
- 37:36I was like, oh man, this fucking guy.
- 37:38Yeah, man, he's already shitty. Now he's just that fucking
- 37:42scumbag. He already sucked, now you're a
- 37:43whole ass Hoover, you know? Good, that's pretty good.
- 37:48Thank you did you come up with that on this fight?
- 37:50Yep nice OK the only I cuz I had Shane too but the only other
- 37:56ugly I had was Chucky strangling the cat and killing it.
- 38:00I blocked that out from my mind. Don't kill the cat.
- 38:03Don't kill the cat, save the cat.
- 38:05Save the cat. Yes.
- 38:08Just I hated that. I mean, I, you see the cat, you
- 38:14see the way that he looks at it that one time, you know
- 38:15something bad's going to happen. I thought at one point I was
- 38:19like, oh, OK. He just strangles it for a
- 38:20second, and then Andy stops and that's that.
- 38:23But then later on, he kills the cat.
- 38:25And not only that, he, Andy, he plays recordings of the cat's
- 38:29death while Andy is trying to sleep.
- 38:31That's dark as fuck. Yeah.
- 38:34Man, that's oh God, OK. Absurd.
- 38:40I they're watching Texas Chance on Massacre 2 and they're
- 38:45fucking watching it out of order.
- 38:48First of all, although I do love later they make a nod to like
- 38:51them talking about how improbable the movie is.
- 38:54You didn't catch it last night. And I was like, oh, they're,
- 38:56they're making fun of themselves.
- 38:58Yeah, I didn't get that. Yeah.
- 39:00And then also, so one of the designs for the Buddy 2 is a
- 39:06bear, which I love it. That absolutely would have been
- 39:08the one I would have wanted. There's one point when they're
- 39:12having the whole store massacre and it's like a bear drags
- 39:17somebody into an aisle and then pops back out kind of like
- 39:21burping, like implied that he ate that dude in two seconds.
- 39:25I something about that just sent me like it was amazing.
- 39:31I like that whole thing. I thought that that was cool
- 39:33because it also incorporated that idea of him having multiple
- 39:36chuckies. Yeah.
- 39:37Again, in this movie too. Yeah, it was nice.
- 39:40Yeah. My episode also comes back to
- 39:42the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but it's the fact that Chucky learns
- 39:45how to be a slasher by watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre, too.
- 39:50He learns all the moves from that.
- 39:52That's where he gets the face ripping off.
- 39:53That's where he gets the stab emotions.
- 39:55Yeah, he gets the one liners. Yeah, all from Toby Hooper and
- 40:00Bill Mosley. I wish there would have been one
- 40:03part. Where he says somebody a dog
- 40:05Dick. Lick my plate you dog Dick.
- 40:08I wish you would have said that. Even if he just like has like a
- 40:11place doing the dish. Does it to Shane at one point.
- 40:17Yeah, Oh dude, that would have been amazing if they would have
- 40:20done that. Like my plane lick my plate dog
- 40:23Dick Shane like. Yeah, that would have been
- 40:27amazing. All right, So what do you rated?
- 40:31Honestly, I think I'm gonna give it an 8.
- 40:33I think it's a really solid movie.
- 40:34I know a lot of people like, and this is not rating it up against
- 40:39the other Child's Play movies. This is just like as its own
- 40:42individual movie. I think it's good, I think it's
- 40:44effective. It tells it retells the story,
- 40:47but tells it in its own way, and I'm OK with it.
- 40:50I mean, even if it were part of the child's play, like if you
- 40:55are putting up against those, I think it makes the character
- 40:58interesting and reinventing it. But they kind of almost do this
- 41:01with certain chuckies in the TV show.
- 41:04Yeah. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 41:06So I guess that they kind of get that put in there.
- 41:08But yeah, up until this point, we hadn't had like a refresh on
- 41:12Chucky before. OK, I'm gonna give it a nine.
- 41:17OK. Yeah.
- 41:18This movie, like, it's just, it's really good.
- 41:22Like, I just don't know what else to say about it.
- 41:24It's an amazing remake. It's one of the better ones, and
- 41:27that is a controversial opinion, I believe, of all the slasher
- 41:32franchises out there. But this is one of the better
- 41:35remakes out there. We've had this conversation with
- 41:37people before, like, no, we actually like the 2019 Child's
- 41:39Play. And people were like, whoa,
- 41:41whoa, whoa, what? And I'm like, it's a good movie.
- 41:43For a whole lot of people, it's just hard for them to get past
- 41:46it not being Diamond or, Yeah, Diamond Sini and Brad Dorf and
- 41:50all of them. Yeah, I get that.
- 41:52But if you just give it a chance as its own thing, it's a great
- 41:56movie. OK, so 8 1/2.
- 42:00Yeah. Nice.
- 42:01Pretty good. All right, we're ready to roll.
- 42:03Ready. All right, we start off with
- 42:06Henry Caslan introducing your new best buddy.
- 42:09It connects to all Caslan products, it's self learning and
- 42:12guess what, it much like Jacob for us, imprints on us AGI.
- 42:19Baddie, let's rewind for a little bit.
- 42:21Let's go back to absurd. I forgot this motherfucker
- 42:26imprints on a baby right out the gate.
- 42:29We go Twilight right out the gate in this thing.
- 42:33I drew a fucking. I drew myself side eyeing over
- 42:35here on the notes you. Had the same reaction to this
- 42:38that you did the first time we watched Breaking Dawn Part 1
- 42:41where you were like did he just imprint on a baby?
- 42:46I mean, that movie, like it traumatized me.
- 42:49Like if there's any imprinting whatsoever, I don't care if it's
- 42:51like digital or like AI, but it happened to a baby and then
- 42:55that's upsetting. Another CGI baby.
- 42:57I don't like the implication of that I would have don't let
- 43:01Jacob near this thing. It'll be your best friend, your
- 43:04protector, a Big Brother. Maybe when the time's right.
- 43:07Totally not gonna fuck it. Not gonna fuck.
- 43:10No, I'm definitely not thinking about fucking that.
- 43:13OK, we need to go. All right, we cut to a warehouse
- 43:17and we see a bunch of extras that were given very vague
- 43:21instructions on what to do. So like one of them's like
- 43:23braiding doll's hair, the other's like fresh, fresh,
- 43:27fresh. You know what I thought was
- 43:28interesting about this? This is like, clearly, it's like
- 43:31a China factory. That's like making these dolls.
- 43:34A China factory? Do you want to try and rephrase
- 43:36that? Chinese factory.
- 43:38There you go. Yes, that is making these Chucky
- 43:40dolls. And I thought it was interesting
- 43:43that all of the software is in English.
- 43:46A lot of countries are bilingual.
- 43:49A lot of countries. A lot of like countries, well,
- 43:53and I don't know, we don't know that this is China.
- 43:55It could be like Taiwan. Could be Taiwan?
- 43:57No, no, Taiwan is either. But I'm just saying it like it's
- 44:00not uncommon for people in other countries to be bilingual.
- 44:04It's a lot. It's a lot more normalized.
- 44:07Oh I know, especially Japan. Japan has signs in English
- 44:11throughout the whole place. But yeah, so this one worker who
- 44:15is tired because he works a very boring job gets slapped by his
- 44:20supervisor. Pretty sure that's a violation.
- 44:23And he, in revenge, decides that he's gonna take off all safety
- 44:27protocols for this one particular doll.
- 44:29And then he does it. And then he assembles the doll.
- 44:32And then he jumps out the window.
- 44:33Yep. And I liked this because this
- 44:36was a good nod to child's play, too.
- 44:38So I was about to say yeah, when they were like, spinning this as
- 44:41like saying like, oh, we think that this was just a disgruntled
- 44:44worker at one of our factories, like overrode the card inside
- 44:47the good guy doll and. That's time.
- 44:49It's the actual truth. The actual explanation.
- 44:54And you know another good thing about this?
- 44:55I like that we move away from the voodoo of it all.
- 44:57Yeah, like they they give it a practical reason to happen.
- 45:00Yep. OK, So we cut over to Zed Mart
- 45:03and we get Aubrey Plaza. She's there.
- 45:06She's working. She hates her job.
- 45:08We get a man storming. She's.
- 45:09Working at returns too, so. Oh, that's the worst.
- 45:12A normal customer is already like 5050 if they're going to be
- 45:15a nightmare, but people come to returns.
- 45:17Yeah, we get a good case of that here.
- 45:20We get a man coming in like you didn't tell me the thing.
- 45:22It was Ginger. And she was like, well, it's on
- 45:26the box and the description. I'm very sorry you didn't read
- 45:29that. Also, there's a window and you
- 45:30can see the doll right there. I'm sorry you failed to notice
- 45:32the color of its hair. He's like my daughter wanted the
- 45:34blonde one. She goes, yeah, that's the new
- 45:36one and it's not being released for.
- 45:38I think she hasn't said that. I don't think it's OK to say
- 45:40that. I was like, I don't think you.
- 45:41Can say that, yeah. And I feel like that was more of
- 45:44an Aubrey Plaza. Environment.
- 45:46Rather than actually in the. Script A lot of times in this
- 45:48movie she just is Aubrey Plaza and I appreciate that cuz I just
- 45:53fucking love Aubrey Plaza. Listen, you go to Aubrey Plaza
- 45:55cuz you want Aubrey. Plaza.
- 45:56Yeah, exactly. If you cast her in anything, you
- 45:58cast her to be Aubrey Plaza. Yeah.
- 46:01She says all the things that anybody that works retail wants
- 46:04to say to the customers, and she's able to do so.
- 46:06Yeah, So it's nice. She gets back to her apartment
- 46:11and the Super is downstairs and he's kind of leering at her and
- 46:14that's gross and uncomfortable. I thought he was a maintenance
- 46:16guy. He's a creepy maintenance suit.
- 46:18Yeah, I think they're called supers.
- 46:20Oh really? I thought supers was like the
- 46:21Wayne Ward term. Sometimes I don't.
- 46:27Know he's a super maintenance guy he's super creepy yeah
- 46:30that's what he. Is there we go so Andy still
- 46:33hasn't unpacked. He was supposed to and he was
- 46:36like, sorry, I got distracted. He's been watching buddy videos
- 46:40on his phone and she's like, I'm gonna take your phone until you
- 46:45unpack stuff like you need to stop spending so much time
- 46:48online. And she goes, have you made any
- 46:50friends yet? And he's like, no, she goes,
- 46:51look, there's two kids standing outside in the rain.
- 46:53That's. Too attractive.
- 46:56I also like the dialogue here where she's like, come on man,
- 46:58it's supposed to be a new start. I was like, oh, I get it, we're
- 47:01doing a reboot here, a new start.
- 47:03And she was like, I'll give you your phone back if you go try.
- 47:07I can't, I can't believe. I mean, I know this is how some
- 47:10things are, but like, be like, hey, I'm just gonna push my kid
- 47:13and force him to stand out around kids that they don't know
- 47:16next to a trash can in the rain. Yeah.
- 47:18Well. She didn't actually go out
- 47:20there, so it's, you know, but. The fact that she's like, go do
- 47:24that, yeah, that's not good. We got back to work and a woman
- 47:28is returning a defective buddy. She's like, yeah, his eyes
- 47:31glowed red and he said some really weird shit and he just
- 47:34doesn't work. And so Karen goes to Wes, her
- 47:36supervisor, and she goes, hey, So what happens to these that
- 47:39don't work? He was like, Oh yeah, we sent it
- 47:40back to the to the Caslon Corporation.
- 47:43She's like, yeah, but what do they do?
- 47:44And he goes, I probably put them in a trash compactor since the
- 47:47buddy, too is coming out. She goes, so then there's no
- 47:49problem if I take this home. And he was like, we can't do
- 47:52that. And she goes, come on, It's like
- 47:53his birthday in a couple weeks. And he's like, no, we can't.
- 47:56She goes please, I won't tell anyone, just like I won't tell
- 47:58anybody that I caught you having sex with somebody else in the
- 48:01break room in. The warehouse, by the way, how's
- 48:03your wife doing? Yeah.
- 48:04Yeah, she goes. All right.
- 48:05So I'm taking a thanks. Bye.
- 48:08Very April, she takes the home. No, April.
- 48:10Like it would have been like, you can give this to me or I can
- 48:12murder you. That's true.
- 48:13That's actually more April right there.
- 48:15Yeah. And Chucky would be like whoa.
- 48:17I hear like give toy or murder. Yeah, interesting.
- 48:22Oh man, I would have loved to have seen him shape his
- 48:23personality based off. Of April, yeah.
- 48:27That would have been great. OK, so she takes it home to Andy
- 48:31and he walks in on her making that with Shane.
- 48:35Yeah. And you can see he is clearly
- 48:38uncomfortable, does not like the idea of Shane being around.
- 48:41Yeah, so he just like, I'm just gonna go hang out with some
- 48:44kids. And by hanging out with some
- 48:45kids, he's gonna go sit down at the end of the hall on his
- 48:48phone. Detective Mike is there, and he
- 48:51has seen Andy here several times.
- 48:52He is, you know, he pays attention that way.
- 48:55He comes to eat dinner with his mom once a week.
- 48:57And he tries to make some, like, light hearted jokes when Karen
- 49:01comes up. And she's like, what's going on?
- 49:04What's happening? And Detective Mike tries to set
- 49:07himself up for a fun police punchline, but Karen's not
- 49:10taking the bait. Yeah, and.
- 49:13I love the most. He's like, I was just gonna say
- 49:15I'm the fun police. He was like he.
- 49:17Was like he was like this is these are finally the people
- 49:20that I get to use this on I. Like that, we both looked at
- 49:23Talia when he said that because we called Talia the fun police.
- 49:26Yeah, she won't let the cats play with anything.
- 49:28She thinks they're being too rowdy.
- 49:31So she brings Andy back in and she's like, OK, Andy, I know
- 49:34that you probably are mad at me right now and you're not happy
- 49:37with the whole situation. So I figured you can open this
- 49:40birthday present a little bit early, just because you know.
- 49:44And he was like, oh, he's like, this is for kids.
- 49:46She goes, but you watch the videos, he goes, yeah.
- 49:49And she goes, I thought it would be funny.
- 49:52And he's like, no, no, it is. And he's like, let's, let's try
- 49:55and connect it. Let's see how it works.
- 49:57Yep, so. It doesn't, yeah, but that she,
- 50:01he's gonna try. He's gonna try and make it like
- 50:02it won't connect to the cloud, but like it'll still talk and do
- 50:05something. So.
- 50:06Yeah, I like, it's Scansome. And he's like, hey, what's your
- 50:08name? Or like what?
- 50:10What's my name? He's like Han.
- 50:11So he's like, OK. Did you say cha cha cha key?
- 50:15Yeah, and then he sings in the buddy song.
- 50:18The buddy song is so sweet. I started singing it to tell
- 50:21you, except instead of buddy I was saying puppy.
- 50:22Yeah, you can just like fit it with anything.
- 50:25Yeah, so he continues to sing the song to Andy as Andy's
- 50:30trying to sleep, and he just won't let Andy sleep.
- 50:33Well there's like 1.2 where he's like showing him around the
- 50:35apartment and he shows him his cat Rooney, Mickey Rooney.
- 50:39And Rooney, like, hisses at him and he calls the cat a Dick and
- 50:43Buddy is like, Rooney is a Dick. And he goes, whoa, I didn't
- 50:47think you could say that. I like that this is a way to
- 50:51make Chucky foul mouth in like an organic way.
- 50:54Yes, and again, I think that they actually wrote this really
- 50:57well for the age of what these kids were supposed to be.
- 50:59Yeah, absolutely. The type of shit they would do.
- 51:01Yeah, for sure. Like these.
- 51:02It's finally like realistically written children in horror.
- 51:06Movies, I'm just I'm happy that we still get Chucky.
- 51:08Just like when curse words fly. Yeah, well, that's
- 51:12quintessential to his character at this point.
- 51:14So we get a little kind of mini montage of kind of their version
- 51:20of that commercial we saw at the beginning.
- 51:22So he's watching Andy brush his teeth and he's doing the same
- 51:25thing, except it kind of looks like he's doing a like Dick
- 51:27sucking. Motion.
- 51:29And I feel like that has to be intentional.
- 51:32He watches Andy, like, make a sandwich and stab it really
- 51:35aggressively with the knife. So he's practicing the stabbing.
- 51:38And then he goes, Andy, don't forget your science book.
- 51:42He goes for the last time. This is not a science book.
- 51:46And we see, like a pile of things around him on the floor.
- 51:49And he's just like vacant smile like.
- 51:52I love that. I would be so happy if that was
- 51:54what my dog did. And when he gets home from from
- 51:59school, that's where he's like, I made you a present.
- 52:01Like a stick with the bow on it. Yeah, they put a bow on it.
- 52:05I hate that. Andy's, like, great.
- 52:06You gave me a stick. No, Andy, you appreciate that He
- 52:09fucking tried. Andy, have you ever heard of a
- 52:12little saying it's the thought that counts?
- 52:14Yeah, man, Andy. They make Andy a heartless
- 52:17little kid in this movie. Man makes Chucky so goddamn
- 52:22sympathetic. Yeah, and he's talking at a
- 52:25perfectly reasonable volume, but Shane is like SH.
- 52:29Oh yeah, cuz like Karen's sleeping.
- 52:31Yeah. Come on, man.
- 52:33Yeah. So he he leaves with Chucky and
- 52:37he's like outside and he's venting about Shane and how much
- 52:40he hates him. And cause him a Dick.
- 52:42Yeah, like Shane's a fucking Dick so.
- 52:46They're playing a board game when Rooney comes up and
- 52:49scratches Andy and Andy has to go get a Band-Aid.
- 52:52And when he comes back, Chucky is trying to choke Rooney.
- 52:56And he's like, no, no, you can't kill cats or people or cats.
- 53:00He's like, he's like, but he hurt you.
- 53:03And he goes, yeah, it's but you can't like, you can't react that
- 53:06way. Like it's overkill, man.
- 53:10Like. Man I hate that he has these
- 53:11killer tendencies because he was so adorable before.
- 53:16So he was like, here's something we kick cuz so Rooney goes
- 53:23running off and Shane pops in. Just be like Cat's being weird
- 53:27like. Qui in this room.
- 53:30Who are you, Shane? Like.
- 53:35Cats being weird like in this room.
- 53:40And so this is right. And he gets an idea that he's
- 53:42going to scare Shane with Chucky.
- 53:44So he goes outside. He's trying to get him to make a
- 53:47scary face. And it kind of looks like in
- 53:49Super Mario 64. When you take the ham screen,
- 53:52yeah, he can. Stretch his face.
- 53:54That's kind of what he's doing. And this is when Fallon and Pug
- 53:57come up with their dog, and they're startled and they hear
- 54:00him swear and they're like, whoa, he can.
- 54:02Do that. Oh yeah.
- 54:03It's like there's like a sound and like somebody says fucking
- 54:05loud. And then Chucky just goes, it's
- 54:07fucking loud. And they think it's really
- 54:10funny, and they decide that they're going to help with the
- 54:12the prank. And the prank is in fact,
- 54:14effective. Yep.
- 54:16So now he's got friends. Yeah, we get a montage of him
- 54:20just like, you know, bonding with these kids.
- 54:22They're all just having a good time with Chucky.
- 54:24Yeah, they think Chucky's funny. He's got like a special Chucky
- 54:27cuz it's like the safety protocols are overwritten so we
- 54:29can swear. It's an independent thing.
- 54:31Yeah, yeah. Do whatever it wants.
- 54:33So this is where we see them all over at.
- 54:36I'm thinking Pug's. House.
- 54:37Yeah. Where?
- 54:38They're watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre, too.
- 54:39Yeah. And Chuck, he keeps saying that
- 54:41he wants to play and and he's like, not right now we're
- 54:44watching the movie. And so he watches the movie and
- 54:46he's trying to learn. And there's like one point where
- 54:50they're kind of like laughing. They're like, this is so
- 54:52unrealistic. And so he goes to get a knife,
- 54:55and he's going to, like, pretend that he's a killer too, because
- 54:57he thinks that's what they like. Yeah.
- 55:00And this is the fucking problem with AI people.
- 55:04He's too committed to the bit because everybody's like.
- 55:07Understand context. Everybody's like, whoa, OK,
- 55:10that's creepy and funny and but then he like keeps inching
- 55:14closer to pug and then. And he stops him and he gets cut
- 55:19and Chucky immediately is like, oh, that's not what I wanted to
- 55:22do. Man, this is where I feel really
- 55:24bad for him because this is where he like puts Chucky away
- 55:27and he's like, I'm gonna go play with Pugs and Fallon Fallon.
- 55:31And then he's just like, I didn't want.
- 55:34I just, I wasn't trying to hurt you, Andy.
- 55:37He's just so sad in the dark with the sad face.
- 55:39I'm just. A dumb little.
- 55:41Dog, the fact that they give him emotions.
- 55:45So we cut to Karen. She made cookies.
- 55:48She almost never baked, but she's really excited.
- 55:50This is straight out of fucking Christmas inheritance.
- 55:53Yeah. And she's trying to get him to
- 55:55eat when he goes. No thanks.
- 55:56I will get another beer though. Cookies look good though.
- 55:59Yeah, they look good. So eat her fucking cookie, man.
- 56:02Especially if you're between beers, like that's the perfect
- 56:05time to take a little mini snack break.
- 56:07So he goes into the kitchen and he sees Chucky and Chucky plays
- 56:11a recording of Andy calling Shane an asshole.
- 56:14And this is where Karen, like, she's like, OK, this is not
- 56:18cool. And she tells Andy she's like,
- 56:19listen, you need a break from the doll.
- 56:21We're going to do one hour a day.
- 56:22And when he's not with you, he's going to be locked up in this
- 56:25cabinet. He's freaking.
- 56:27He's being rude to Shane and he's freaking out.
- 56:29Rooney. Cat's being weird.
- 56:32Cat's being weird. Clean up your room.
- 56:37So Andy, like, he comes back from school the next day and he
- 56:41sees where Chucky has broken out of his little Yeah.
- 56:46Area. Yeah, and he just sees shattered
- 56:48glass and he sees a puddle of blood and a dead Rooney.
- 56:55Man, fucking fucking Chucky. And Andy's just cry God.
- 57:00I can't believe he he again, he has to be the adult for like
- 57:04Karen, because Karen comes back later and she's like, where's
- 57:06the cat? He's like, I don't know, Shane
- 57:08left the door open like I ran out.
- 57:10Like he doesn't have the heart to tell her he.
- 57:12Had to do his own little cat funeral and it's just.
- 57:15Take it to like the trash shoot, yeah, it's really fucked up.
- 57:19Karen is arguing on the phone. She's like, I can't work the
- 57:21buddy too large. That's my kids birthday.
- 57:24So that's just, you know, something to bear in mind that
- 57:27that's coming up. We see Chucky playing the murder
- 57:32tape all night. As he's trying to sleep, Andy.
- 57:35God, why is he? He's doing that to fuck with
- 57:38him, right? Yeah.
- 57:38Why doesn't he take out his hearing aid?
- 57:41He could do that. You're right, He could
- 57:43definitely do that. Like I'd say that's one of the
- 57:46upsides of like if you have to work with the mobility or like
- 57:51an ability aid like that throughout your life, like at
- 57:54least like if somebody's making sounds you don't want to hear
- 57:56like poop. Yeah, I just, I don't have to
- 57:58listen to this shit. Yeah, I mean, and I'm saying
- 58:01that having known people with hearing aids who?
- 58:03I'm sure they can do that, yeah, if you have that ability.
- 58:06Want to do this? If I could do that, I would do
- 58:08that too. That'd be great.
- 58:11So all right, we cut next to Shane back over there.
- 58:15Chucky scares him again, makes Shane pee all over himself.
- 58:19Dude what the fuck did Shane? Because Shane is at the toilet
- 58:22right? Dick in hand, peeing, sees
- 58:26Chucky get started. Like does he just let that thing
- 58:29fly? Like I think.
- 58:29Fire hose, What is happening? I think he panicked and his
- 58:33brain short wired and I thought he was like, oh, flip it to
- 58:3512:00. But like he he's like, oh, wait,
- 58:38I don't have a boner, right? No, no.
- 58:41So you end up peeing on some. My follow up question before I
- 58:44could get to. It what was your follow up
- 58:46question? What circumstances do you panic
- 58:49and say flip it to 12:00 when talking about your penis?
- 58:52Erection. Flip it to 12 baby.
- 58:56Hope you have a long shirt on that day.
- 59:02So yeah, this is like the final straw for Shane.
- 59:05He like, confronts Andy. He's like, what the fuck did I
- 59:09do to you, Andy? Yeah, he like pushes him, closes
- 59:12the bedroom door. This red flag.
- 59:14All God, yeah. Marinara flags.
- 59:16Well, you can tell he's probably done this.
- 59:18Before and like, Chucky's in the corner watching all of this.
- 59:23And when Shane Lee is like, and he just cries like, I wish he
- 59:25was gonna hate him. Karen is out in the hall.
- 59:28She's like, dude, he is my child, not yours.
- 59:30If you have a problem, you need to talk to me and I will talk to
- 59:32him. This is not OK.
- 59:33And he's like, I don't have time for this, Karen.
- 59:36Yeah, he's like, I don't see what the big deal is.
- 59:38He did something that stepped up, you know.
- 59:41Yeah, I think it's totally like rational to push a person
- 59:45smaller than you with very limited, like, autonomy over
- 59:49their own lives. Like it's perfectly reasonable
- 59:52to physically abuse them when they're stepping out of line.
- 59:54That's how they learn. It's like, come on, Karen, I'm
- 59:56out of 12 right now. We could go do that right there,
- 59:58or I can flip it back down to six and I can walk home.
- 1:00:01What time is it, Karen? She was wisely.
- 1:00:05So he goes out to his truck and he pulls up to this house and
- 1:00:09this is where I was like you, God damn.
- 1:00:11Bastard cuz he can see from right there there's a family
- 1:00:14inside and it's his. Family.
- 1:00:16The way he flips down his visor and catches his ring all in like
- 1:00:201 swift move like he's practiced.
- 1:00:23It would have been better if he did that and he like put his
- 1:00:25hand out and then like landed right on his finger.
- 1:00:29I'm very the way you play around with your wedding ring.
- 1:00:31I'm very concerned you're going to try and master this move.
- 1:00:33Hey man, still haven't lost it. You come.
- 1:00:37There have been close calls. There have been close calls but
- 1:00:39I'm I'm very protective over it. So he goes in, says hi to his
- 1:00:45wife and kids, and then he goes outside cuz he's got to take
- 1:00:47down the Christmas lights and he's like take down the fucking
- 1:00:50Christmas. Like why don't we just leave
- 1:00:51them up? They're just lights.
- 1:00:53Just talking about practice. Just.
- 1:00:54Talking about practice. So as he's doing that I don't
- 1:00:59fully understand what happened here cuz he's like trying to
- 1:01:01scooch the ladder over and the ladder just disappears.
- 1:01:04No, Chucky's shaking the ladder. Okay.
- 1:01:06Yeah, he's over there grabbing the lights, but yeah, he's
- 1:01:09rattling it down there. And then he.
- 1:01:11Falls. He takes it out from under him,
- 1:01:13Falls, and then yeah, the he's like, you think he's going to
- 1:01:18get hanged by the lights, but what happens is he lands on the
- 1:01:22ground with both legs, which causes his legs to break, bones
- 1:01:26sticking out. This scene edges you the way a
- 1:01:28lot of death scenes in Final Destination do.
- 1:01:31Yeah, it does. Yeah.
- 1:01:31It's like, here's what? You think it's going to happen.
- 1:01:33Nope. Nope, and they couldn't have
- 1:01:34picked a better character to do this with.
- 1:01:36Oh yeah, he gets probably the most brutal death, but yeah, the
- 1:01:39most deserved of them. All so he's broken both his legs
- 1:01:43and he's trying to crawl towards his cell phone which like fell
- 1:01:45into his watermelon that for some reason he and his family
- 1:01:48have. And as he's crawling towards it,
- 1:01:52they're like roto tiller starts and it starts coming towards him
- 1:01:58and he's like trying to push it off.
- 1:01:59And then Chucky comes up with a knife and then he lets go of the
- 1:02:04tiller. The tiller gets him, but Chucky
- 1:02:05also stabs him a bunch. But before that, right before he
- 1:02:09says him, he says this is for Tupac and kills him.
- 1:02:13That's going to be a confusing death.
- 1:02:15Yeah, the fucking doll, Tupac, he's been dead.
- 1:02:20Like, what did I do to him? OK, so next day cops are there
- 1:02:26checking out the crime. Scene and Detective Mike is the
- 1:02:28detective on the case and. What do you know?
- 1:02:30He he saw the confrontation out in the hallway between Karen and
- 1:02:34Shane. And then he sees the ID that he
- 1:02:37had on him and he's like, yeah, that's full of Shane.
- 1:02:41So Andy wakes up and he sees a watermelon in his room with
- 1:02:44Shane's face mailed to it. And this is both funny because
- 1:02:51it's a call back to them watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre
- 1:02:542 and saying that's really unrealistic when Leatherface had
- 1:02:56faced somebody. Yeah, but also it's absurd
- 1:03:01because his fucking eyeballs are there.
- 1:03:03I never noticed that until you mentioned that last night.
- 1:03:06I was like, yeah, you know what? Why is I didn't?
- 1:03:09Notice it until Pug said he's winking at me and I was like why
- 1:03:12is he winking? Yeah.
- 1:03:14That's a great question. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:17And you're right. It's great commentary and like,
- 1:03:19it's just like it's so unrealistic and we know it.
- 1:03:22So Andy and list the help of his new BFFS Fallon and Pug, and Pug
- 1:03:27is correctly distraught and Fallon correctly says This is
- 1:03:31why AI shouldn't be allowed to be smart and sentient.
- 1:03:35Yeah, that's a good point. It's true.
- 1:03:39So they decide that they're going to wrap it as a way to
- 1:03:45take it to the shoot. This backfires because Karen
- 1:03:49walks in. She goes, why aren't you guys in
- 1:03:50school? And Andy says explosive
- 1:03:52diarrhea, which was the the lie that they had agreed upon if
- 1:03:56anybody tried to stop them. And she goes, good excuse.
- 1:03:59And she goes, what's the present for it?
- 1:04:02And he goes, it's for Doreen down the hall because she helps
- 1:04:06me with my homework. She goes, well, that's sweet,
- 1:04:07let's go give it to her. Come on, let's go.
- 1:04:12So they go down the hall and knock on the door and she's
- 1:04:15like, well, Andy made this present for you and wanted you
- 1:04:18to have it because of all the homework that you've helped him
- 1:04:22with. And while this is happening,
- 1:04:23she's making eye contact with Andy.
- 1:04:25He's with his eye saying please just go along with this.
- 1:04:28And she's like, well, thank you, that's very sweet.
- 1:04:31Let me open it. He goes, no, no, my birthday is
- 1:04:34next Friday. Let's open them together then.
- 1:04:36And she's like, OK. And whatever your kid, kids do
- 1:04:40weird shit. Yeah, so Andy is crying and he
- 1:04:46has to trick Chucky by taking him to Pugs out Pugs apartment
- 1:04:51again, I guess. I think so, yeah.
- 1:04:53And Pug and Fallon tackle him so that way he can power him off.
- 1:04:58And I get it because we talked about how this little doll feels
- 1:05:02things and makes you feel things, and Andy has formed an
- 1:05:06actual friendship with it. The worst part?
- 1:05:09OK, so First off, they do this by just like Iron manning him.
- 1:05:13They they take his little like blue glowy thing from his chest
- 1:05:16out, which is apparently his power supply.
- 1:05:18Yeah, but he makes it worse by singing the buddy song as they
- 1:05:23have him pinned down and they're stabbing him and shit.
- 1:05:27Oh my God, they really tug at the heartstrings with this right
- 1:05:29here. So they drop him in the chute
- 1:05:32and the Super finds him and starts a refurb process and he's
- 1:05:36planning to resell but first he's going to sniff them
- 1:05:39clothes. Why does he do that?
- 1:05:43I don't know, it is weird. Does he like the smell of trash?
- 1:05:47He's like, what does this toy smell like?
- 1:05:49I don't know, it's so weird. It is weird.
- 1:05:53Andy sees Karen and Mike talking about Shane.
- 1:05:56Like he walks in during the interview and Karen's crying and
- 1:05:59she's like, God, this is all awful and also I feel stupid.
- 1:06:02And yeah, then Andy, Mike and Doreen are having dinner
- 1:06:07together. Yeah, so.
- 1:06:09That's kind of sweet, and Doreen's trying to figure out
- 1:06:11how to call like Uber, but it's the Castling car and they're
- 1:06:16driverless and that's terrifying.
- 1:06:18Yeah, I know I wouldn't. Dude.
- 1:06:19I've seen videos of people renting cars like this in San
- 1:06:23Francisco. You know what happens?
- 1:06:25This is why we can't have nice things.
- 1:06:27People go out, block the car because I know it won't run them
- 1:06:31over and then they just like graffiti all over and smash it
- 1:06:34up. I saw a really sad one that made
- 1:06:36me feel bad. This is guy, he's just got his
- 1:06:38little dog in the car with them and they're just trying to get
- 1:06:40somewhere. These people just get in the
- 1:06:42road and they just block and start harassing him and like the
- 1:06:44car and just it's a it's a little bit fucked up.
- 1:06:48Made me feel bad. But that's why we, I mean,
- 1:06:51they're trying to make these things happen, but people are
- 1:06:53too like, society is too much of an asshole.
- 1:06:55Well, it's like there is this like independent robot that was
- 1:06:58supposed to be traveling cross country and it didn't make it
- 1:07:00any farther than the East Coast before people just destroyed it.
- 1:07:05If any of you live in Philadelphia, I'm sorry, but I'm
- 1:07:08pretty sure it's the Philadelphians that fucked them.
- 1:07:11Up. No, just in general, If you live
- 1:07:12in Philadelphia, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I am a Braves fan and
- 1:07:17I hate the Phillies so, but it's nothing personal.
- 1:07:19I just hate you. You're all fucking sports
- 1:07:20scenes. So yeah.
- 1:07:24So where are we at? Oh, OK.
- 1:07:27Yeah. So he's explaining how to use
- 1:07:28that. And she was like, cool, So this
- 1:07:29is how I can get the bingo. And, you know, they're gently
- 1:07:32teasing Mike, and it's kind of sweet saying that they've, like,
- 1:07:36developed a little relationship between the three of them.
- 1:07:39And. Yeah.
- 1:07:40Yeah, Mike has like a heart to heart with Andy, and he's doing
- 1:07:44this while he's putting his hand on the present.
- 1:07:47And he's like, look, I know all the kids say all these things
- 1:07:50about me out there, but watch what they say, the bad
- 1:07:53influences out there. Yeah, and.
- 1:07:55Then he goes up to go. He's clearing.
- 1:07:57The table and Andy grabs the present and runs and when Mike
- 1:08:01turns around he's like kid can't even hear me and he still
- 1:08:04doesn't want to listen so he tosses out the watermelon face.
- 1:08:11The Super gets Chucky running and he manages to connect to the
- 1:08:15cloud to test it out and then also perv on Karen because I
- 1:08:19guess for some reason there are cameras in the bathroom and I
- 1:08:23feel like that's something he did.
- 1:08:24Before he definitely did that. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:26And yeah, we see her. She's getting in the shower but
- 1:08:28like the feet cuts out before she undresses and so it starts
- 1:08:31to panic. And Chuck, he's like, let's open
- 1:08:35you up and see what's in what we're working with.
- 1:08:38I like this. Yeah.
- 1:08:39So this whole thing, like, he's like, slashing at his feet, like
- 1:08:42running around, slashing at his feet.
- 1:08:43Eventually the Super jumps up on like this little table with a
- 1:08:47saw in it. Yeah, Oh yeah, With a.
- 1:08:49And the table kind of gets broken on a couple of legs, so
- 1:08:53it's leaning, and he grabs up on a pipe overhead.
- 1:08:56And then the cloud connects, turns on the saw, and then also
- 1:09:00UPS the temperature so the pipe becomes too hot to cold.
- 1:09:03So what eventually happens, obviously, is that Jack Gray
- 1:09:06falls down onto the table and dies.
- 1:09:08Yeah, it was a good death. This guy had it coming.
- 1:09:11Yeah, fucking creep. Yeah, him and Shane.
- 1:09:14It was good that those were the two, like drawn out ones,
- 1:09:16because we're gonna get a sad one here shortly.
- 1:09:20Yeah. So one of the kids comes up and
- 1:09:23knocks on 80s door and says, oh, guess what was left outside of
- 1:09:26Omar's door? And it was a Chucky doll.
- 1:09:30And you know, Andy's kind of like, that's a little bit weird
- 1:09:34because it's also another one that was like swearing and
- 1:09:37stuff. But Andy doesn't immediately go
- 1:09:39to that's my doll. Like he's just like, it's just a
- 1:09:41little bit weird, but I'm going to pay attention.
- 1:09:44Then this whole group of kids goes to the Zed Mart and Chucky
- 1:09:47kind of was like, you're my buddy.
- 1:09:50Yeah. Oh man, you're my.
- 1:09:52Best friend and then he starts playing footage of Shane's
- 1:09:58death. Also the footage of Shane
- 1:10:01pushing Andy on the bed and being.
- 1:10:03And Andy saying, I wish he would just go away.
- 1:10:05Yeah. And then Omar comes up and he
- 1:10:08goes, listen, just because your shit's busted doesn't mean that
- 1:10:10you can try and take mine. He's like, no, you don't
- 1:10:12understand. This doll is evil.
- 1:10:13And he goes, oh, can't you hear what I'm saying?
- 1:10:16Oh right, you can't. Rude and terrible but also
- 1:10:20completely realistic for like an 11 year old to say.
- 1:10:23Yeah, and not only that, he slaps the hearing aid off of his
- 1:10:26ears. Yeah.
- 1:10:27And so, Andy, you know what? I support this punch.
- 1:10:29I support this. Yeah, stand up for yourself,
- 1:10:31man. He fights Omar and they get into
- 1:10:33a fight. I feel bad for Pug here, though,
- 1:10:36because Pug comes always like break it up and he's like, no,
- 1:10:39he pushes him, he hits his head. Poor Pug he was.
- 1:10:41Just like I thought this kid was my friend.
- 1:10:44Yeah, ruined my entire career. And then this gets the attention
- 1:10:48of the whole store, including Karen, and Karen, just like gets
- 1:10:51him out of there. Yeah, and in the in the tussle,
- 1:10:56Omar dropped his phone and so Andy takes it with him.
- 1:11:00And what this ends up being important for is because he can
- 1:11:04connect to the buddy app and he sees through Chucky's vision
- 1:11:09that he's watching Doreen climb into a castling car that she
- 1:11:11called to take her to. Bingo.
- 1:11:13And he panics. He knows something bad is going
- 1:11:15to happen and he tries to tell Karen.
- 1:11:17And Karen is like sobbing because she cannot afford the
- 1:11:20type of intensive therapy that she currently thinks her son
- 1:11:23needs. Her wife fucking sucks, right?
- 1:11:25Now she's like I already can't afford his new hearing aid and
- 1:11:28now he needs probably inpatient therapy.
- 1:11:31Also her boyfriend was a Dick to her kid and also.
- 1:11:34And had a wife and children. She was the side piece.
- 1:11:37Yeah, boy, bad stuff. Yeah.
- 1:11:41And then when he's like trying to show her the proof that like
- 1:11:43Chucky's following Doreen, he goes, she was like, where did
- 1:11:46you get this phone? He goes, it's Omar.
- 1:11:47As he drops it, she goes, no, we're, we are taking this bag.
- 1:11:51Are you serious? So she goes to take it back to
- 1:11:54Omar's house. His apartment makes Andy stay
- 1:11:57inside. And while he's inside, the TV
- 1:11:59comes on and it's showing like, just various footage of things
- 1:12:02that have happened, up to and including Dorian being killed.
- 1:12:07Yeah, yeah, he she made it to the parking lot of the bingo
- 1:12:09place and then the car. She's about to get out.
- 1:12:12The car locks, unbuckles her, turns off off the airbags, is
- 1:12:16driving around the parking lot crazy, and we see Chucky in the
- 1:12:19parking lot with his little ET light up finger like making it
- 1:12:23move around, you know? What they should have done, they
- 1:12:25should have had him do one thing where he's like doing the force.
- 1:12:27My God, it would have been perfect for this.
- 1:12:32But no, he just kills her. Yeah.
- 1:12:35Yeah, she like, they crash and she gets out of the car and then
- 1:12:38he comes up and stabs. Her and then the fucked up part.
- 1:12:41Detective Mike is the one to identify the body and.
- 1:12:45We were talking about this. So we're like, what the fuck?
- 1:12:47We know he's got a partner. Yeah.
- 1:12:50Why is he the one that was, like, comes out to the scene and
- 1:12:53is like lifting? It's not even like an official
- 1:12:54identification moment. Would you, would you not even
- 1:12:57have, I don't know the procedure.
- 1:12:59So anybody aware of police correct me about the coroner?
- 1:13:02Would they not be like, hey, this is the person, oh, here's
- 1:13:04her ID? Yeah, I think the coroner has to
- 1:13:06officially pronounce death. Yeah.
- 1:13:10And then I think they have to have somebody come ID.
- 1:13:12It's not just going to be him come out in the parking lot on
- 1:13:14his job, you know what I mean? Like.
- 1:13:17The coroner. No, Mike.
- 1:13:19Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I it's feel bad for him.
- 1:13:23That's a bad way to find out your mom that.
- 1:13:25Yeah. So yeah, now we go back to Andy.
- 1:13:29Chucky is now streaming his vision to Andy's TV.
- 1:13:33Yeah, and Andy is freaking out and he starts beating up the TV
- 1:13:37with a baseball bat and Karen comes in and she's she is
- 1:13:40broken. She's at her.
- 1:13:41Yeah. She's.
- 1:13:42Like I don't know what to do. Cool you have that bat, go ahead
- 1:13:45and like use it on me now cuz I'm done.
- 1:13:48Right here, kid. Yeah.
- 1:13:50So he is at work with her the next day because clearly he
- 1:13:54can't be alone and also it's his birthday and she can't not work
- 1:14:00now because she needs all of the types of doctors for him.
- 1:14:03Not only that, it's also the release day of the Buddy, too.
- 1:14:06Yeah, which is a big day. They got the people crowding
- 1:14:09outside the front of the store there and yeah, it's a big
- 1:14:13event. And while this is going on,
- 1:14:16Fallon takes a look at Omar's phone and sees some of this
- 1:14:20footage and she tells Bug she goes, I think maybe, maybe this
- 1:14:25isn't all Andy like, I think we have reason to be suspicious of
- 1:14:29of the machines. Yeah, also while this is
- 1:14:32happening, one of the I guess the other person there had she
- 1:14:35was called away on a head or face that they found in the
- 1:14:39trash chute. And she takes the pictures to
- 1:14:42Mike. And then he sees, oh, that's
- 1:14:44Shane's face with the wrapping that Andy had, that the present
- 1:14:48he had for his mom. She's like, oh, that fucking
- 1:14:51kid. Yep.
- 1:14:53So they they go to Zed Mart, they're going to try and save
- 1:14:58Andy and Mike has, but he like as they're trying to like get
- 1:15:04him out, he's like, no, I need to find my mom.
- 1:15:06Like he's like, I feel like she's probably in danger because
- 1:15:09Chucky wants to kill everybody that's close to me.
- 1:15:12And as they're about to do that, Mike comes up, cuffs Andy and
- 1:15:19Karen's like, wait, what's happening?
- 1:15:21Wes? And the rest is Ed Mark give no
- 1:15:23fucks. So they go through with the
- 1:15:25launch. Wes is in the mascot uniform,
- 1:15:28but he comes up, stabs him in the uniform.
- 1:15:30So as he comes out during the launch, he lifts off the head
- 1:15:34and this little girl just gets oh.
- 1:15:37Man, I forgot it happened to a little kid.
- 1:15:41Perhaps to that little actress cuz she like screamed her heart
- 1:15:45out, had a whole horror on her face and she's just getting
- 1:15:48gushed and. Fake blood trauma for the rest
- 1:15:52of your life, right? Yeah, that's fucked up.
- 1:15:54Talk about parents needing to pay for psychotherapy for the
- 1:15:57kids. Yeah.
- 1:16:00So yeah, Chucky has now started just taking over all of the
- 1:16:06castling products in the store. So he's got drones, he's got all
- 1:16:11kinds of other he. Turns off the light, he connects
- 1:16:13to everybody's cell phone, gets them connected to the cloud.
- 1:16:16Has the drone, like flying. It's flying towards Care,
- 1:16:20towards Mike, but Karen knocks him out of the way, saves him
- 1:16:23just in time. Locks.
- 1:16:26Yeah. It's the dude, the warehouse
- 1:16:28manager guy that just got his juggy word cut.
- 1:16:32It hits him in the face and just finishes him off.
- 1:16:35Yeah, lockdown is activated and Chucky in aid.
- 1:16:47Hearing aid. He's talking to him as hearing
- 1:16:50aid. I was thinking first aid and I
- 1:16:55was like, I don't think he's doing first aid.
- 1:16:56He's like, he's like, oh, what am I done?
- 1:16:58Yeah, he's in Andy's hearing aid.
- 1:17:00And he was like, it's just going to be you and me.
- 1:17:03Anybody who gets in the way is being eliminated, being for
- 1:17:06eliminated. For eliminated.
- 1:17:11The drone is coming towards Pug and Mike saves him, but the
- 1:17:15drone actually hits him this time.
- 1:17:17Buddy activates all of the other buddies and Fallon just comes
- 1:17:23through. Fallon's like a little mini
- 1:17:24badass, like she's gotten gardening supplies, like, you
- 1:17:28know, like hedge trimmer, stuff like that.
- 1:17:30And she's like knocking dolls left and right, drones left and
- 1:17:33right. She frees Andy from his
- 1:17:35handcuffs and they decide that they're going to go through like
- 1:17:38the warehouse, like exit and that's how they're going to get
- 1:17:40out. And he's like, no, I and they
- 1:17:42see up on the screen, Karen has been found by buddy by Chucky is
- 1:17:46tied up and he's like, I need to go save her.
- 1:17:48And they're like, you can't save her.
- 1:17:50Let's get out of here, call the cops, get like adults.
- 1:17:52And he was like, you're right, you're right, you're right.
- 1:17:54And they go out. And then he closes the door.
- 1:17:56He's like, I can't leave my mom. This is all my fault.
- 1:17:59You guys go. Except you didn't really do
- 1:18:01anything wrong, Andy. No, you like, yeah, you just had
- 1:18:04bad AI. Yeah.
- 1:18:06So yeah, he goes over there to confront his mom.
- 1:18:08Ends up being a trap. Yeah.
- 1:18:10Well, obviously. Yeah.
- 1:18:12And she is like tied up to a forklift and the forklift starts
- 1:18:16raising. And so he wants to try and help
- 1:18:19his mom. He sings the buddy song.
- 1:18:25To stop. Chucky from cutting him.
- 1:18:27Yeah, oh man, I like how he just like takes Chucky back.
- 1:18:30He's like. Yeah.
- 1:18:32And Andy uses that moment to climb up to the top of, like, a
- 1:18:35rack, and he starts cutting Karen down, but Chucky follows
- 1:18:38him and attacks him. So Andy jumps onto the rope,
- 1:18:41finishes cutting everybody falls down all together, and he stabs
- 1:18:47Chucky. Mike, he's still alive.
- 1:18:50He comes in, he shoots Chucky, and then Karen comes over and
- 1:18:54kicks Chucky's head off. Yeah, just like finishes it.
- 1:18:57Off. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:59And then when Mike shots shoots him, he says this is the end.
- 1:19:05He didn't say friend. Well, that wasn't his friend it.
- 1:19:07Would have been cool if he said this is the end fucker.
- 1:19:10I would have liked that. That's what I was expecting.
- 1:19:13I mean that would have been also a RIP off of Cult of Chucky.
- 1:19:17Yeah, this is the end, Tupac. OK, so things are kind of back
- 1:19:24to normal. The kids take the remainders of
- 1:19:28Chucky and they office space. Them.
- 1:19:30Thank you, that's all I could think of watching this.
- 1:19:32Yeah, they just like they'd slow MO, Yeah, like put them down on
- 1:19:35the ground and they take bats and shit and just bust them up.
- 1:19:38And Caslon claims no responsibility for what
- 1:19:40happened. However, as a safety measure,
- 1:19:44they will be recalling all of their buddy products.
- 1:19:46We're sorry. We're sorry, that's it.
- 1:19:50That's how the movie ends, yeah. No after credits.
- 1:19:53Nope, Checked. We checked.
- 1:19:55Yes, we were very thorough this time.
- 1:19:56Yeah, they've got us on edge after the last few ones.
- 1:19:59Yeah, there's this jam packed with which saw.
- 1:20:02Movie was it that we found out after we did our saw coverage
- 1:20:05that it had an after I think it. Was 6.
- 1:20:07Yeah. It was like, yeah, it was one
- 1:20:09that like. Yeah, we never knew.
- 1:20:11Yeah. Yeah, I I now check every single
- 1:20:14movie we watch because I. Even once we've seen 1000.
- 1:20:16Times. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:20:17You never know. Right, I'm still keeping it at
- 1:20:20an 8. I'm.
- 1:20:20Keep in mind, at a nine. Yeah, this is a really, really
- 1:20:23good movie. I love it.
- 1:20:24OK, what would you change then? I don't know if there's much
- 1:20:29that I would change. I still think it's really solid.
- 1:20:31I think it's just like it's always going to have that like
- 1:20:34air of being a remake, which isn't its fault, but like that's
- 1:20:39just always going to be there in the back of my mind.
- 1:20:41So I guess it's like 2 points for not being an original idea.
- 1:20:45OK, that's fair. Talia was.
- 1:20:49She was pretty sleepy. We've discussed this before.
- 1:20:51Talia is afraid of Chucky. I don't think this Chucky scares
- 1:20:57her as much, but she also doesn't really love sentient
- 1:21:01machines. Like she's not a fan of our
- 1:21:02Ruba, our Roomba, or the our little like security camera that
- 1:21:08we check in on her throughout the day.
- 1:21:10She doesn't like that she she also agrees that we shouldn't be
- 1:21:13giving machines intelligence. So I think she's on right track.
- 1:21:16Yeah. So I think that she's happy this
- 1:21:19isn't the serial killer Chucky, and she appreciates the warnings
- 1:21:23that are included in this movie. So I think she's going to.
- 1:21:24I'll give it a 7. OK, yeah, Talia, not a fan of
- 1:21:29that. ChatGPT, not a big fan of that
- 1:21:32at all. Just like you were making no
- 1:21:34sense right now. OK, All right, so.
- 1:21:41It's always ultimate warrior. Definitely Chucky this time,
- 1:21:45just in a different way. We can do this Chucky.
- 1:21:47This is a new Chucky. It is a new Chucky.
- 1:21:49And she, I mean, just like she is just like a broken cat,
- 1:21:53broken doll here doesn't know, yeah, doing the things that on
- 1:21:56paper are set of being this thing that you are, but just
- 1:22:00doesn't don't know how to do it the right way.
- 1:22:03And you can't help but like you look at her big dumb eyes when
- 1:22:05she stares at you and they're full of love and hunger and
- 1:22:08you're just like I. I will protect you.
- 1:22:10I I don't know what's happening up there, but I'll take care of
- 1:22:13you. That's just, that's totally her
- 1:22:16Chucky right there, yeah. OK.
- 1:22:21Who's you relate to? I related to Fallon because
- 1:22:24anytime like a machine upsets me and like This is why we
- 1:22:27shouldn't give them power because eventually they're going
- 1:22:29to take over. I frequently relate things back
- 1:22:31to Terminator. Whenever we do zoom calls at
- 1:22:34work, I get mad at the fucking zoom bitch who lies about us
- 1:22:40entering in our meeting code. So yeah, she's like, you entered
- 1:22:44and I'm like, I didn't though actually.
- 1:22:47You're just being feisty and I'm not here for it.
- 1:22:50Yeah. Don't.
- 1:22:50Don't be feisty. So.
- 1:22:52I related to Karen in that scene, the opening scene,
- 1:22:55talking to the customers that just remind me of my customer
- 1:22:58service days where those are the things that I wish I could have
- 1:23:01said. Like, I'm sorry, you were just
- 1:23:03being a fucking idiot, but I mean, you kind of have been an
- 1:23:07idiot here, So what can I tell you?
- 1:23:09Sorry, you're stupid. Yeah, that's just, that's the
- 1:23:13dream right there for any service worker, anybody that
- 1:23:16works in customer service or customer relations, just tell
- 1:23:19how it is. Yeah, OK.
- 1:23:22All right, Let's see what's next.
- 1:23:25Tagline. It's a tagline time.
- 1:23:28It's tagline time, baby. No dreams.
- 1:23:30No, we can't do dream sequels. Yep.
- 1:23:32OK, then. Yeah.
- 1:23:34Tagline. OK.
- 1:23:39OK, you wanted to have this incorporated somewhere in the
- 1:23:43movie, so here we go. This one's a force to be
- 1:23:46reckoned with. I like that.
- 1:23:49That's really good. Yeah.
- 1:23:50Yeah. This one's a force to be
- 1:23:52reckoned with. Good job.
- 1:23:54Are you gonna use the Star Wars font?
- 1:23:56Yes, OK, that's a great idea. If I could, I would make it like
- 1:24:02a play, like hey, I can edit that shit now.
- 1:24:08Actually I'm gonna do that man. OK, cool.
- 1:24:13Well, that was easy. Yay.
- 1:24:15Thank you. All right, so we are now moving
- 1:24:17on to reviews. All right, let's see what you
- 1:24:20got. All right, so I pulled us a
- 1:24:24negative IMDb review. Yeah.
- 1:24:27It is a three out of 10 was reviewed back in April of 2020.
- 1:24:33It is titled Unnecessary Remake. Okay.
- 1:24:38Child's Play is rubbish and an absolute waste of time.
- 1:24:41The original version is not even very good, but was at least
- 1:24:44novel for its time and spawned several sequels.
- 1:24:48This reboot, a lazy excuse for a film, adds nothing and does not
- 1:24:52improve on the original even slightly.
- 1:24:54Unlike the remake of Carrie, which was up against a horror
- 1:24:57classic, Child's Play actually had scope for improvement
- 1:25:00instead. Written by Tyler Burton Smith
- 1:25:02from a story by Don Manzini, the writer of the original film,
- 1:25:06Smith makes very little effort to stamp his own personality on
- 1:25:09proceedings. The script is pedestrian at
- 1:25:12best, with many of the story elements making very little
- 1:25:15sense. Some of the killings are shoved
- 1:25:17in just to make up the numbers. Gabe Doreen.
- 1:25:21The Korean opening was nonsistical Korean.
- 1:25:23I guess it was Korea taking the safety elements off of a toy as
- 1:25:28though it were a nuclear missile.
- 1:25:31If the film had gone for parody and might have worked.
- 1:25:34Directed by Waris Krevberg, who also directed the far better
- 1:25:38Polaroid, walks us through this horror by numbers.
- 1:25:41Wow, this guy is full of hot tanks.
- 1:25:43Yeah. Have you seen Polaroid?
- 1:25:46Yes. Is it bad?
- 1:25:50It's the type of movie I'd like. I wouldn't say it's good.
- 1:25:55OK. Thank you.
- 1:25:56All right. You've watched it with me.
- 1:26:00I have those takes about many things myself.
- 1:26:01Not a good movie. I like it, it's for me.
- 1:26:04All right, so Boris Clever walks us through this horror by
- 1:26:07numbers with barely any of the scares working and easily
- 1:26:10predictable. The acting is fine given the
- 1:26:12material and nobody on show is noticeable noticeably awful, but
- 1:26:16I suspect that unless they were big fans of the original, most
- 1:26:20of the adults at least only turned up for the paycheck.
- 1:26:24Child's Play is a lazy, uninspired, pointless remake of
- 1:26:27an OK horror that did not need to be remade.
- 1:26:29Definitely one to give him this. My theory on what happened with
- 1:26:34this reviewer is that they watched the original Child's
- 1:26:36Play at one point in their life. Hated it, never re watched it.
- 1:26:40This came out and they decided to watch it.
- 1:26:43They remembered very little from the remake or from the original,
- 1:26:46but decided that remakes are bad anyway.
- 1:26:48Yeah, that's what I think happened.
- 1:26:50I think this is from somebody that this type of movie is just
- 1:26:53not for them in general, whether it's like Voodoo or AI, like
- 1:26:57they're just not going to be happy with this.
- 1:26:59And they also hate remakes regardless of what it does.
- 1:27:02Curious to see their thoughts on Megan in Threegan.
- 1:27:05In Threegan also like Polaroid. Not an original idea either,
- 1:27:10it's basically just. I assumed that would be.
- 1:27:12Yes, you have and it's basically just a.
- 1:27:15Retelling. Of RL Stein say cheese and die.
- 1:27:18That's not a great movie. Yeah, that's a weird thing for
- 1:27:20him to be like, oh man, Polaroid.
- 1:27:21Yeah, like he's like this movie garbage Polaroid top shelf like.
- 1:27:26Interesting. That's why I meant like hot
- 1:27:28tail, like I'm somebody that will.
- 1:27:30I have watched Polaroid recreationally on days that I've
- 1:27:34had off that you've worked. That's his right.
- 1:27:37Yeah, that's that's totally fine.
- 1:27:39If that's your thing. If that's your favorite type of
- 1:27:41movie, good for you. But I yeah, I don't.
- 1:27:43Necessarily agree. Like I said, and this type of
- 1:27:45movie really just it isn't going to be for everyone, but I also
- 1:27:49feel like this is somebody that came into it with a negative
- 1:27:52slant already. Probably.
- 1:27:54Yeah, so, but I mean, yeah, it, it is what it is.
- 1:27:58OK, well let's see what the listeners have to say.
- 1:28:01What do our listeners have to say?
- 1:28:02Travis, I would like to hear here from from our babies.
- 1:28:07OK, so over on Instagram, Cubesafe says it's a fun movie,
- 1:28:11but it feels like it could have been any generic toy slash doll
- 1:28:14movie. Yeah, I was kind of thinking
- 1:28:16that last night. I'm like, you know, this is like
- 1:28:19the same beats as Megan. Like, you know, the doll, a kid
- 1:28:23needs some companionship and then the doll fills that void,
- 1:28:27but then it wants to be the only companion.
- 1:28:30Yep, that's pretty much it. That's true.
- 1:28:34That's very, very true. That would be the one bad thing
- 1:28:36I guess I could say about this movie.
- 1:28:37But I still feel like it. I feel like it overcame those
- 1:28:41shortcomings myself. Side note Megan 2 is coming out
- 1:28:45this year. I'm.
- 1:28:45Excited. I really want it to be called in
- 1:28:47forgan. In Forgan, I want the Chucky
- 1:28:51Megan crossover to happen. Meg friend Meg.
- 1:28:55Friend Meg, just a lot of E yeah, that's if you get like 33
- 1:29:00sequels eventually you'd be like Meg, yeah, OK, no, I get that.
- 1:29:07That's a that's a fair criticism there.
- 1:29:08Yeah. And I mean, like, I think it did
- 1:29:11its own original thing in terms of retelling a story.
- 1:29:14But yeah, like the the AI thing is, it's becoming less and less
- 1:29:18novel as we go forward. So that's fair enough, I guess
- 1:29:22in a 2025 lens of looking at it. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:29:24Yeah, all right. The kilt in the redneck says.
- 1:29:29I enjoyed it more than Child's Play too, if that says much.
- 1:29:33This is a lot but I not a lot at the same time.
- 1:29:37I'm curious what? More.
- 1:29:39I want more. I don't know if this is the kilt
- 1:29:41or the redneck speaking or if you wrote this together, but
- 1:29:43please give us more. Information I need the Child's
- 1:29:46Play 2 review and I need the review on child's Play 2019 on
- 1:29:49my desk first thing in the. Morning.
- 1:29:51Yeah. 300 words yes together on both of them.
- 1:29:55Essay style please use APA formatting Thank you.
- 1:29:58I will run it through a checker to see if you use AI.
- 1:30:02We've learned our lessons in this movie.
- 1:30:04Here, except the problem is that those checkers are they
- 1:30:06themselves AI and they tend to flag a lot of.
- 1:30:09False. I've seen that.
- 1:30:10I've seen where somebody is like, I wrote a paper and it's
- 1:30:13flagging as AI and I don't know what to do.
- 1:30:15How does that even happen? People are so paranoid now.
- 1:30:18I see comments on Reddit all the time.
- 1:30:20Somebody being like, oh, this is totally an AI response.
- 1:30:23And the person replies like, no, like I'm a person.
- 1:30:25So I think part of the problem, because before it used to like
- 1:30:28if you could find a snippet of this thing written online, then
- 1:30:30it was like you were taking more, like you were taking
- 1:30:32direct quotes, not putting it in your own words.
- 1:30:34But the problem is now, like Google, it does AI summaries of
- 1:30:39your search results. So if you look up a legitimate
- 1:30:41source, you cite it, you've summarized it yourself.
- 1:30:44If Google has summarized it in a similar way on like a search
- 1:30:48result, it might be flagging that.
- 1:30:50That's my theory as to what's happening with it.
- 1:30:52Like it's just going to be harder and harder to summarize
- 1:30:54things in your own words that haven't been summarized
- 1:30:56elsewhere on the Internet by. I think it's also people
- 1:30:59noticing speech patterns for AI. Yeah.
- 1:31:02And then people like, this sounds very much like AI wrote
- 1:31:04this. Like, no, this is just like I I
- 1:31:06talk like a robot. Oh no, I was talking
- 1:31:07specifically about like school assignments.
- 1:31:09Oh, I'm talking about people in like comments like.
- 1:31:12I'm talking about practice. I'm talking, how about the game?
- 1:31:18OK, All right, let's move on. OK.
- 1:31:22And the last one on Instagram, it's from Michael E Howard, who
- 1:31:25says the new version of Child's Play that came out shouldn't be
- 1:31:28considered part of the actual Child's Play franchise.
- 1:31:31In my opinion, I consider this a pretty good movie on its own and
- 1:31:34it is a really good take on an old idea.
- 1:31:37The movie gets props for Robbery Plaza because she is amazing and
- 1:31:39of course the voice of Mark Hamill was great.
- 1:31:42I think as a Child's Play movie, I wouldn't give it a high score,
- 1:31:45but as a movie on its own, I'd give it an 8 out of 10 and
- 1:31:49that's. Pretty much how I feel about.
- 1:31:50It great way to look at it right there.
- 1:31:51Yeah, that's a perfect way to look at it.
- 1:31:53Yeah. I mean, like, I don't, I don't
- 1:31:55fit this into the child's play. No, it doesn't fit in the
- 1:31:59timeline anywhere, and I don't think it really tries to.
- 1:32:02It is part of the franchise, but I just, I see it as its own
- 1:32:05thing. It's non Canon to me.
- 1:32:07Yeah, it's totally non Canon. Yeah, but yeah, no, I agree.
- 1:32:11Aubrey Plaza, Mark Hamill, Like I said again, if you're going to
- 1:32:13have anybody do the voice, Mark Hamill, one of the best fucking
- 1:32:17voice actors in the game. OK, then the final review over
- 1:32:22on Blue Sky or Zombie, A Feud has a totally different movie
- 1:32:27outside of the other Child's Play movies.
- 1:32:29It's OK. There are a lot of weird plot
- 1:32:31points and characters. The idea is by no means new.
- 1:32:34Most of the reason to rewatch this movie is Aubrey Plaza.
- 1:32:38So if there's one thing everybody can agree on, Aubrey
- 1:32:40Plaza. Yeah, a good thing to watch.
- 1:32:43Yeah, but if you love Aubrey Plaza, don't be a fucking creep
- 1:32:46to her right now. Yeah, people are being weird to
- 1:32:48her right now. This is.
- 1:32:49Christ, assholes galore. OK, Yeah.
- 1:32:53But no, I, I mean, yeah, same thing as what Michael said right
- 1:32:56there. It's, you know, as its own
- 1:32:58thing, it's totally fine. It works.
- 1:33:01Yeah, I agree. And I do think Aubrey and Mark
- 1:33:04have very good performances. Yeah.
- 1:33:06So yeah, definitely. And I honestly, I think the kid
- 1:33:08actors are pretty good too, and that's hard to do.
- 1:33:10Yeah, they have good chemistry. They have, like, fun.
- 1:33:12I like their moments of like where they're bonding together
- 1:33:14and watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre too.
- 1:33:17Yeah, it feels realistic, Yeah. Other than like that maybe being
- 1:33:20terribly out of order. Yeah, they did chop that up so
- 1:33:23much. It's just frustrating because
- 1:33:25they chose two of the most like iconic scenes from the movie and
- 1:33:28then showed them backwards from each other.
- 1:33:30That scene with the guy on the truck with the chainsaw, it was
- 1:33:34one. It was one of the defining
- 1:33:36moments of my childhood horror. Watching like that scarred the
- 1:33:40shit out of me back in the day. OK, well that's it.
- 1:33:46That's it for reviews and that's it for this episode, which means
- 1:33:49that, unfortunately, is it for Child's Play.
- 1:33:52We will be doing our wrap up next month as a bonus and we
- 1:33:57will be announcing our next franchise very soon, yes.
- 1:34:00So be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, be on the
- 1:34:04lookout for next week when we talk about tremors.
- 1:34:07Yes. Can't wait to finally talk about
- 1:34:11some tremors. Right now you can rent it on
- 1:34:13Prime, Google Play or Fandango at home.
- 1:34:16It's a good movie, yeah. If you have never seen it, well,
- 1:34:20absolutely. See it if you still have cable.
- 1:34:22I'm sure that it's like playing on USA.
- 1:34:25God, yeah. Always, Yeah.
- 1:34:28Yeah, so I'm, I'm super excited for that.
- 1:34:30It'll be fun time. I can't believe that like a year
- 1:34:34ago, this man had never seen tremors.
- 1:34:36And I was like, no, we need to. Yeah.
- 1:34:37And now you're you're a total convert.
- 1:34:39I love it, it's so good. Last movie we watched I was a
- 1:34:43little bit let down. You were very frustrated about
- 1:34:46the lack of snow. Yeah, the last one I watched was
- 1:34:49Cold Day, and yeah, I think it was.
- 1:34:51Yeah, it not only that, just the whole thing, it was a little
- 1:34:54bit. They're really nerfed, Bert.
- 1:35:00They berfed them. I'd like to take this moment to
