Speaker A: Hey, parents and coaches, are your kids using the right glove? The most important skill for youth athletes to learn is how to play proper catch. The problem is most youth gloves are made with bad leather and are too big for small hands. They actually make it harder to play catch. That's why former Major League Baseball shortstop Kevin Smith created Cali Gloves. Cali gloves are crafted from 100% Japanese kip leather and are the perfect size for kids. All Cali gloves come with palm slits, finger loops and elastic wrist lacing that encourage proper hand placement. The right closing patterns and give kids more confidence to go make plays. Cali Gloves even allow parents to break in the glove without stretching out the fit. It's the glove Kevin wishes he had growing up and the glove all his teammates want for their kids. Speaker B: welcome to this week's edition of in the Clubhouse with EMD Baseball. I'm Andy Kirakidis, joined by my Wonderful Co host, Mr. Keith Glasser. How we doing, sir?
• 1:19
Speaker C: Great. How are you?
• 1:21
Speaker B: Good. Today we're going to briefly touch on, and I might be overly critical of it here, but we're going to touch on a couple social media trends that, as Peter Griffin would say, grind my gears. I've seen some stuff recently getting posted that I know personally haven't talked to coaches and there's actually been some guys who've been vocal about it on social media. A little bit of a turnoff for, for some of the coaches, especially for the ones that may or may not be involved in some of the tweets. But the two trends that I'm seeing that seem to be ruffling some feathers and honestly don't sit great with me. I fully aware that I may sound like the old man screaming at the clouds, but the trend of posting your visit schedule where you're going, I've even seen one saying I'm going to visit, but we don't know the date yet, so we got a TBD posted there as well. And then kids posting their offers

Speaker B: me, I just think that's stuff that you, that's personal and you keep that to your inner circle and it doesn't need to go out to the world. And I, I, when I see a kid post that, right or wrong, my first reaction is this is a me guy and I know that there are college coaches out there who view it exactly the same way. So I, I just think that that's the Type of stuff that you can keep a little bit more private. Keep it between the coaches that you're recruiting that are recruiting you. You know, if you have an offer and you know you need to, you need to get that out to the world, I would suggest you wait until you're fully committed and keep that a little bit tighter. But at the risk sounding like an old angry man, that would be my advice. I don't know if you have any differing thoughts on the, the situation or maybe some like thoughts with some, some additional information that you might want to add.

Speaker D: If you're the parent of a high school baseball player with college aspirations, you already know the recruiting process can feel overwhelming. Endless showcases, non stop emails and big promises with very little clarity. That's why we recommend Diamond College Showcase Camps, the nation's premier academic baseball showcase. At Diamond College showcases, every college coach in attendance is there with a purpose to coach, instruct, evaluate and recruit. Every player is seen, every player is engaged, and every family leaves with a clear understanding of where they truly stand. This is not a mass camp. College coaches run the drills, evaluate every athlete and provide honest professional feedback that you can trust. Diamond College Showcase Camps are built for serious student athletes who value both baseball and academics. If you're looking for transparency, clarity and a recruiting experience that respects your time and your players future, Diamond College Showcase is the place to be. Speaker C: Here's what I'll say. I don't get as upset about this as other people do.
• 4:52
Speaker D: I have a couple of different opinions
• 4:54
Speaker C: on, like, do I think that it's something that you should be doing? Oh, personally I don't feel that way, but I get it. Like I, that's what goes on in the world nowadays with kids, right? Like they live their lives right or wrong through social media and they want to let people know and hit the boards. You know, I think the schedules and the visits, like, I think that's a bit much personally for me. You know, the offer stuff, I, you know, I don't love it, but I get it. It doesn't really rub me the wrong way. I think if you're a coach who's offering kids, I think an easy way is just be like, hey, you know, we prefer that you please don't put this on social media. You know, we're, you know, we prefer to not have all of this out there. Right. Like, and I think there's a couple different mindsets to it but like, you know, for the kid you're kind of celebrating the fact that, like, you know, your hard work and stuff is starting to pay fruition a little bit, you know, But I also see that the program side of things of, like, you know, you're. You're trying to keep some things close to the vest because you are, you know, if that kid that you just offered doesn't say yes, you want to be able to go to, you know, the next guy on your list. And if the next guy on your list sees that they offered him, that kid's probably going to be like, well, I'm like, I've been waiting for an offer. And they offered two other short styles in front of me that I just saw on Twitter. Like, I'm not. I'm not going to X school. And that kid is gone now. That's the risk you run regardless of anything in recruiting.
• 6:39
  Speaker D: Right?
• 6:40
Speaker C: But I think with it being out in the open like that, it can, you know, it could turn, you know, quickly for you. And I, I think just as much as the kid, you know, coaches being upset that kids commit via Twitter without letting them know, you know, I, I think it can kind of go both ways. Like, kid can be a little upset that, you know, he feels like he's being strung along in the recruiting process with X program while seeing a bunch of offers go out as his position. Right. So, you know, I can see that side. But, you know, if that's the case, I think if you're the program or the coach, you just say, like, hey, we don't, you know, please don't put this out on social media. You know, unless you're going to commit, then go ahead and make a big post. But, like, if we're just going to offer you, like, we prefer that you don't put this on social media. And then if the kid goes and does it, then you can be like, hey, man, like, we asked you not to do that. You did it anyways. Like, we're like, we're no longer interested anymore. Right? Like, you kind of broke that trust. You know, we're going to move in a different direction. But I think that it's, you know, yeah, it's not football, it's not hoops, you know, but it, it's gaining popularity. And I think that a lot of, a lot of other sports are doing it, and I think a lot of it doesn't mean that you have to do it. But, you know, I get it. If this is what you continually consume as a young student athlete, you're going to want to be a Part of the true. Get to that point in your life. Not saying everyone, but I understand that side of things. Again, I'm not the biggest fan of it, but I don't really, you know, I think the visits and the, you know, your schedule of official visits with like nine schools listed I think is a bit over the top in my opinion. But, you know, I, I think nowadays with AI and everything else, it's a relatively easy thing to punch into an AI generated thing and throw down and get a graphic and put it on Twitter and you know, but I, I, you know, I'm not, it doesn't grind my gears like I know that it does yours, but I, I do think that, you know, you just have to understand like anything else, if you, you put stuff out there like that on social media, there are going. And programs that may not be interested anymore after they see it.
• 9:02
  Speaker B: Right.
• 9:03
Speaker C: Like, that's just, that's just, that's the, it's what you're opting into when you're throwing that out to the world. Like when you start doing that stuff. Like there might be some people that were, had some interest that no longer do because that's not something that necessarily aligns with what they do in their program.
• 9:20
Speaker B: So I think that have to be,
• 9:23
Speaker C: you have to be aware of that.
• 9:24
Speaker B: I think that's a really, really good point, is that you need to just understand if you're going to do it, there's a chance that there will be some people that you could rub the wrong way. Yeah, yeah. No, it's. And it is evolving. And that's why, like, I wanted to preface what I said. Like, I don't love it, but you're absolutely right. Like it's different now and it's easy to fall into the trends. And I think you kind of hinted at it that baseball in a lot of ways is moving kind of towards football. Right. Not only with this type of stuff, but flipping recruits, timelines, you know, commitments and stuff, kind of being soft on both sides of the puzzle. Right. Whether it's a player or a coach, which for a long time wasn't nearly as prevalent in baseball. But it does seem that we're heading in that direction. So I guess the moral of the story, whatever you post, just understand that it's out there. Yeah. I think you also bring up a good point. If a coach asks you not to post and you post, like, expect there to be consequences for that and have respect for the coach's wishes there and. Yeah. Anything else you want to add?
• 10:55
Speaker D: No, I think I drove my point home well enough.
• 11:00
Speaker B: I think you did too. Thank you. So think before you post. Moral of the story thanks for listening everybody. We'll talk to you next week. Thank you for listening this week.
