- 0:15Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this is Story Scaling a very, very special episode.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I am accompanied by my good brother.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm Dan Crafts and Dan, it's the dawn of a new day it is.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Uh, we said end of an era, but no, no, it's uh, it's just different.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah, not worse, better actually.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it'd be even better once we come up with the name for the other one teaser, teaser, other one.
- 0:40Speaker 2: That's right, you're used to seeing story scaling with with our ugly mugs and some of our compadres, some of the industry experts occasionally coming in, but we're going to mix things up a little bit.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, man, 2025, story scaling is going to change focus.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Some.
- 0:58Speaker 2: We're going to use it more for marketing purposes.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It's going to be we we use to push business.
- 1:07Speaker 2: We're looking to grow in 2025.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Big surprise there, right?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, um, and some of the more technical stuff.
- 1:14Speaker 2: These are the discussions on polar microphone patterns and advertising in the industry.
- 1:20Speaker 2: We've got a lot of tech tips coming with brooke, with Brooke and my discussions with either our folks or other industry experts.
- 1:27Speaker 2: We're going to cut that off into a new show and that's going to be more focused on the industry, on expertise, on deep dives into technical matters, whereas story scaling is going to become more of a marketing tool for us.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I mean, we kind of got in it honestly to the whole.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Purpose of podcastvideoscom is to scale stories telling right.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We want to make it a very simple, frictionless, barrierless entry to tell your story it also really made it easy to come up with the name right, it's in our mission yeah 100, you know we exist to scale stories.
- 1:59Speaker 2: That's it.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Well, that was easy.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, we're still kicking around the name for the new one.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I think I like one, but we'll save that reveal for another time.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But I mean now it feels very true to what we started this as Like.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Let's continue to share those stories and experiences and, like you said, also use this as an opportunity to just tell more about the business and what we do and kind of make the second sub podcast specificallycast, specifically more tech-focused.
- 2:26Speaker 2: We're really looking to position ourselves as the industry experts we are and I think the new show will help us with that whereas this is going to be driven more toward conversion, toward growing business.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a thought leadership side to things.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That'll be the new show.
- 2:39Speaker 2: And then there's a marketing tool for every story scaling.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know there's always good stories.
- 2:45Speaker 2: A marketing tool for every story scaling yeah, so, and you know, there's always good stories to tell, no matter how technically you get.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We say we're adjusting story scaling.
- 2:51Speaker 2: We basically sat in a staff meeting one one day.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I was like hey, we're a podcast company, we don't have a podcast, you know?
- 2:58Speaker 2: Oh god, that's how story scaling was born.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Sure, we didn't have a lot of guardrails on it, so it I wouldn't say it was growing pains, but it was kind of all over the place the beginning.
- 3:09Speaker 2: We and as we discussed what we wanted to do with it, moving forward.
- 3:13Speaker 2: That's how we came up with this two show concept.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Well, everything is like you just got to jump in and then, as you just dive in now you can see oh man, going about it this way.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I might have to put some parameters on it, or I might have to, but you got to get your feet put first.
- 3:27Speaker 2: We did not need to be a podcast company without a podcast Right and now we have two.
- 3:33Speaker 1: They're super excited about it.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Well, one of your next story scaling guests can be the host of.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I almost said the name I like out loud, but I'm not ready to commit to it yet.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You know, when I think about positioning ourselves as an industry expert, what types of content should people expect?
- 3:51Speaker 1: I mean, you briefly touched on it, but how do you?
- 3:54Speaker 2: We're going to be reviewing everything from the microphones we use we love our Shure SM7DB, by the way Even some of the stuff that doesn't work for us.
- 4:02Speaker 2: We've experimented with some of the shotgun mics.
- 4:04Speaker 2: In our use case they're not working out real well.
- 4:07Speaker 2: That doesn't mean they're a bad product, just the way we're trying to use them isn't quite there.
- 4:11Speaker 2: We've got switchers, we've got software programs.
- 4:15Speaker 2: We've used Everything to the mounts that the cameras are hanging off the ceiling, the lighting.
- 4:22Speaker 2: There'll be some tech tips, like we've been talking about upgrading to the 4K cameras.
- 4:26Speaker 2: We've got a TV flicker issue because of the refresh rates.
- 4:30Speaker 2: We're working on trying to figure out how to get around that without having to buy a whole bunch of new issues.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Man.
- 4:35Speaker 1: So we going real behind the scenes and real deep with this.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Some of it will be more like.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You know, oh my God, what is advertising in the podcast industry, particularly as it advertisers got kind of familiar with over the years before video really took off?
- 4:52Speaker 2: Sure, um, but there's all sorts of different ways to do it.
- 4:55Speaker 2: There's different ways to track it.
- 4:56Speaker 2: What do they cost?
- 4:57Speaker 2: That's an industry type discussion that is going to provide important information, not necessarily technical, but it's uh.
- 5:05Speaker 2: We're just trying to make sure everybody is up to speed with the newest, the latest, the greatest.
- 5:09Speaker 2: We've got two 4k cameras sitting in there right now.
- 5:12Speaker 2: We pulled the black magic one out of the box and our first thought was oh my god, it's like half the size we thought it was.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It's much smaller than the mevo we're looking at.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll be both.
- 5:23Speaker 2: We will be reviewing both those cameras as well as the lenses that we're putting on them.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I know, you know, uh, even some of the, the things you don't think about.
- 5:32Speaker 2: We've uh, you know even some of the things you don't think about.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Brooke has been working with a very long, like 75-foot, hdmi cable for the furthest back studio in our setup.
- 5:44Speaker 2: We are pushing the technical limits of what you can do with an HDMI cable before you lose some signal that degrades.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Sure, we'll talk to folks about when you're late.
- 5:51Speaker 2: If you're laying out a studio, if you're looking at where your cables run and your cable management this is something you need to think about because you can't go 150 feet.
- 5:59Speaker 2: It will look like you're shooting with a Polaroid Uh 75.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Brooks not even sold on the idea of really using in a in a pro setting.
- 6:08Speaker 2: She thinks that's about as far as we could stretch it.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Pro setting Sure, she thinks that's about as far as we could stretch it.
- 6:14Speaker 2: But that's something you know.
- 6:15Speaker 2: That's a piece of information we can do five minutes on and put it out there, just so that people know.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So a little bit of everything is what you say.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's going to be all over the board.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we might even have some fun and lay out you know the various tools we use and one of those days we're going to in here to work on the studio.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Over the last year or so, it's a lot of them, it's exciting.
- 6:38Speaker 2: So anyway, we'll, we'll give you the exclusive on story scaling to reveal the name of the new one.
- 6:44Speaker 2: How's that sound?
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll, we'll keep you guys posted.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Thank you so much, for I mean, it's really cool that we've been able to, you know, do story scaling and people watch and they tune in and you know they enjoy it.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And now we're endeavoring into a whole new venture that's just going to be similar but, you know, a different value.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just basically taking the focus and splitting it a little bit and we'll be able to give you a little bit of both worlds.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so well, I'm sure I'll be back on Story Scaling, but this one is going to be Bang's baby here from now on and I'll be focused on I almost said it again the new one.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I've said it all in the name now, since I want to say it out loud.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So I'm sure we'll have each other on as guests in the future, but for now I'm Dan Craft signing off from Story Scaling.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm Bang signing back on indefinitely and we'll.
