Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The most precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. July 1 in the year of our Lord 2026.

A note from Dom Gaspar Lefebvre. The liturgy, that admirable summary of the history of the church, reminds us every year that at this date in 1849, thanks to the French army, the revolution which had driven the pope from Rome was vanquished.
• 0:42
To perpetuate the memory of this triumph and to show that it was due to the savior's merits, Pius the ninth, at the time a refugee at Gaeta, instituted the feast of the precious blood. We are reminded of all the circumstances in which it was shed. Pius the eleventh in 1934 raised it to the first class. The heart of Jesus has made this adorable blood circulate in his limbs. Wherefore, as on the feast of the sacred heart, the gospel presents to our view the thrust of the lance which pierced the side of the divine crucified, blood and water gushing forth.
• 1:30
Thus become united the two testimonies which the Holy Ghost bore to the Messiah when he was baptized in the water of the Jordan and when he was baptized in blood on the cross. Let us do homage to the precious blood of our redeemer, which the priest offers to God on the altar. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.

  The introit.
• 2:08
Out of every tribe, every language, every people, every nation, thou hast ransomed us with thy blood and given us to God. Thou hast made us a royal race of priests to serve God. Here is a song to put the Lord's mercies on record forever. Ages will pass, and still these words of mine shall proclaim thy faithfulness. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages.
• 2:51
Amen. Out of every tribe, every language, every people, every nation, thou hast ransomed us with thy blood and given us to God. Thou hast made us a royal race of priests to serve God. The Collect. Let us pray.
• 3:16
Almighty everlasting God, who didst appoint thine only begotten son to be redeemer of the world and didst vouchsafe to be appeased by his blood, Grant we beseech thee that by our solemn service, we may so venerate the price of our redemption and by its power be so defended from the evils of this present life on earth that we may enjoy its fruit forevermore in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews. Brethren, Christ has taken his place as our high priest to win us blessings that still lie in the future.
• 4:21
He makes use of a greater, a more complete tabernacle, which human hands never fashioned. It does not belong to this order of creation at all. It is his own blood, not the blood of goats and calves that has enabled him to enter once for all into the sanctuary. The ransom he has won last forever. The blood of bulls and goats, the ashes of a heifer sprinkled over men defiled, have power to hallow them for every purpose of outward purification.
• 5:00
And shall not the blood of Christ who offered himself through the Holy Ghost as a victim unblemished in God's sight purify our consciences, and set them free from lifeless observances to serve the living God? Thus, through his intervention, a new covenant has been bequeathed to us. A death must follow to atone for all our transgressions under the old covenant. And then the destined heirs were to obtain forever their promised inheritance in Christ Jesus our Lord. The gradual.
• 5:45
He it is, Jesus Christ, whose coming has been made known to us by water and blood. Water and blood as well, not water alone. We have a threefold warrant in heaven, the father, the word, and the holy ghost. Three who are yet one, And we have a threefold warrant on Earth. The Spirit, the Water, and the Blood.
• 6:16
And these three are yet one. Alleluia. Alleluia. We are ready to trust human authority. Is not divine authority higher still?
• 6:29
Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to John. At that time, when Jesus had drunk the vinegar, he said, it is consummated. Then he bowed his head and yielded up his spirit. The Jews would not let the bodies remain crucified on the Sabbath because that Sabbath day was a solemn one.
• 7:01
And since it was now the eve, they asked Pilate that the bodies might have their legs broken and be taken away. And so the soldiers came and broke the legs both of the one and of the other that were crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and found him already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers opened his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out. He who saw it has borne his witness, and his witness is worthy of trust.
• 7:47
The offertory. We have a cup that we bless. Is not this the cup we bless, a participation in Christ's blood? Is not the bread we break, a participation in the Lord's body? The secret.
• 8:08
May we draw nigh to Jesus, the mediator of the New Testament, we beseech thee through these divine mysteries, and renew upon thine altars, O Lord of hosts, the sprinkling of that blood, which speaketh better than that of Abel. Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The Preface of the Holy Cross. It is truly meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God.
• 9:04
You placed the salvation of mankind upon the tree of the cross so that where came death, there also life might rise again. And that he who conquered by a tree might also be conquered on a tree through Christ our Lord, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, and the powers stand in awe. The heavens and the heavenly hosts and the blessed Seraphim join together in celebrating their joy. With these, we pray thee join our voices also while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts.
• 9:55
The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.
• 10:15
Christ was offered once for all to drain the cup of a world's sins. When we see him again, sin will play its part no longer. He will be bringing salvation to those who await his coming. The post communion. Let us pray.
• 10:42
In we Lord. Be you, of the midst And Lord. With Lord. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
• 11:21
Most precious blood of Jesus, save us.
