- 2:24Speaker 6: Good morning, Good morning, Dave. Welcome to our new or
- 2:27Speaker 6: new studio.
- 2:28Speaker 7: It is a nice studio. I'm liking it.
- 2:30Speaker 6: What do you think about this? This is actually I'm
- 2:33Speaker 6: gonna mess around have a radio station here if we're
- 2:34Speaker 6: not careful.
- 2:35Speaker 7: You know, you have no doubt like it really good.
- 2:37Speaker 6: It looks really good. This is just the timporary home
- 2:39Speaker 6: though they tell us this is like the transition studio
- 2:42Speaker 6: because eventually they've torn apart the old studio up I
- 2:45Speaker 6: guess it would be considered upstairs. They've they've torn it apart,
- 2:49Speaker 6: and when we come back sometime after the first of
- 2:51Speaker 6: the year, it'll be it'll look very similar to what
- 2:54Speaker 6: hoppies looks like it'll be on television. And you know,
- 2:56Speaker 6: so I'm rocking a sport code this morning. Dress Now
- 3:00Speaker 6: you're fine, but I'm I'm rocking the sport code this
- 3:02Speaker 6: morning because I'm trying to get used to it. You know.
- 3:04Speaker 6: That's that that's the whole plant of sport code by
- 3:07Speaker 6: the way, from Tony the Taylor.
- 3:08Speaker 4: So just go he's great.
- 3:10Speaker 6: Just go ahead and throw mister Parnzino out there this morning,
- 3:12Speaker 6: because he's been thrown out of a lot of places.
- 3:14Speaker 6: But anyway, congratulations on your win a couple of weeks ago.
- 3:18Speaker 6: Now you didn't, as you and I were joking off
- 3:20Speaker 6: the area, you did not have opposition. However, people still
- 3:23Speaker 6: got to vote for you.
- 3:24Speaker 7: That's right.
- 3:25Speaker 6: Wouldn't that be bad if nobody voted for.
- 3:27Speaker 7: You and I got one hundred percent of the vote.
- 3:29Speaker 6: There you go. What is it a delegate cross that
- 3:32Speaker 6: you think because you did have opposition in the in
- 3:35Speaker 6: the primary election? Right?
- 3:36Speaker 7: I did?
- 3:36Speaker 6: Okay? So what is it about your message overall that
- 3:41Speaker 6: you think tends to resonate more with voters.
- 3:45Speaker 7: I tend to stay out there with the voters. I
- 3:47Speaker 7: answer my calls, I answer any issues that come up
- 3:50Speaker 7: in the in the district, actually across the whole county,
- 3:53Speaker 7: because for some reason, I think the whole of Putnam
- 3:56Speaker 7: County thinks I'm their delegate too. But I I answer
- 4:00Speaker 7: their questions, I answer their calls, I answer the phone,
- 4:03Speaker 7: I get back with them, and they know I have
- 4:07Speaker 7: kept my word on everything I promise them.
- 4:09Speaker 6: I'm not going to do. And I will say this
- 4:11Speaker 6: about you. And there are several other legislators, not just you,
- 4:13Speaker 6: that are like this. Probably a few more should be
- 4:16Speaker 6: you mentioned. Again, you know you you represent your particular district. However,
- 4:21Speaker 6: when you're at the state Capitol, you are representing everyone.
- 4:25Speaker 6: And and I have known you for a long time.
- 4:28Speaker 6: And again there's several delegates and senators that are like
- 4:30Speaker 6: this as well. If somebody reaches out to you from
- 4:33Speaker 6: Mercer County, you're not always going to say we'll go
- 4:35Speaker 6: talk to your own delegate. You're gonna you're gonna try
- 4:37Speaker 6: to help them no matter what.
- 4:38Speaker 7: Correct If it's something I know I can easily help
- 4:42Speaker 7: them with, I take care of it myself. If it's
- 4:45Speaker 7: something that maybe their delegate would be more involved in
- 4:49Speaker 7: and already have something started, I'll make sure to transfer
- 4:53Speaker 7: them over to them, make sure that they're okay, and
- 4:55Speaker 7: set up check back with them, make sure everything's going well.
- 4:59Speaker 7: So it just depends on the situation, but I'd definitely
- 5:03Speaker 7: take calls from all across the state, emails, messages, text messages,
- 5:08Speaker 7: you name it.
- 5:09Speaker 6: So you had interims last week? How did that go?
- 5:13Speaker 7: They went well. They were very busy, of course, gearing
- 5:16Speaker 7: up for the new session for twenty twenty five and
- 5:22Speaker 7: what leadership turnarounds there will be who will be in
- 5:25Speaker 7: charge of committees and everything. So those hopefully get settled
- 5:28Speaker 7: maybe next month or maybe even as far as January.
- 5:31Speaker 6: You know, it's interesting because I don't think sometimes the
- 5:33Speaker 6: general public knows what goes on behind the scenes when
- 5:37Speaker 6: there is a leadership change. You know I'm talking about
- 5:40Speaker 6: I'm talking about that at the top. Obviously we're going
- 5:42Speaker 6: to have a new governor, but we're also going to
- 5:45Speaker 6: have a new Senate president. I know that doesn't affect
- 5:47Speaker 6: you you're in the House, but it sort of does
- 5:50Speaker 6: because people are moving around and the politics that go
- 5:54Speaker 6: into offices, things like people don't realize what a big
- 5:58Speaker 6: deal that is. I was talking to one legislator who
- 6:01Speaker 6: shall remain nameless over the weekend, and he said, I
- 6:04Speaker 6: just don't want to lose my office.
- 6:06Speaker 8: That's me.
- 6:06Speaker 7: I want to keep my I like my office.
- 6:08Speaker 6: I like that people like those offices. Let's talk about
- 6:11Speaker 6: the new term though. What are some things that are
- 6:14Speaker 6: on your agenda as we move into the twenty twenty
- 6:18Speaker 6: five legislative session after the first of the year.
- 6:20Speaker 7: Oh goodness, now you've asked that one too quick. Well,
- 6:25Speaker 7: of course, you know. The big thing with me has
- 6:26Speaker 7: always been school choice. So making sure that one stays
- 6:30Speaker 7: running in line and everything stays good with that and
- 6:33Speaker 7: we don't have any major changes coming up there.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Why school choice, that's a big deal for you because
- 6:40Speaker 6: you're somebody you have homeschooled your kids, but you also
- 6:42Speaker 6: had kids that went through public schools right too, But
- 6:44Speaker 6: why is is this your one of your causes so
- 6:47Speaker 6: to speak? School choice?
- 6:49Speaker 7: When I when my older children were in public school,
- 6:54Speaker 7: I always kind of felt like I wanted to do
- 6:58Speaker 7: something different but didn't know how to or what I
- 7:01Speaker 7: could do different, and the laws didn't really make it easy,
- 7:05Speaker 7: and there wasn't a lot out there on how to
- 7:07Speaker 7: do different. And then when my two youngest ones came
- 7:11Speaker 7: along and some issues popped up at school. I found
- 7:15Speaker 7: out quickly how to do different and at that time,
- 7:18Speaker 7: you know, the Facebook communities were really opening up and everything,
- 7:21Speaker 7: and it opened up a whole new world. And then
- 7:25Speaker 7: over the last several years of homeschooling more than fourteen
- 7:30Speaker 7: years of homeschooling them, I've saw all the different avenues
- 7:35Speaker 7: that parents can go to educate their children, and that
- 7:39Speaker 7: each child learns differently, and we can't put these kids
- 7:44Speaker 7: in a one size fits all, and it just we
- 7:49Speaker 7: want to create a population that's productive members of society,
- 7:54Speaker 7: and to do that, we have to let each child
- 7:56Speaker 7: learn the way they learn best, and so school choices
- 8:00Speaker 7: and a lot to me, I've seen how well it
- 8:01Speaker 7: did with my two youngest ones, how much they loved it.
- 8:04Speaker 7: They both have graduated from that. I now have five
- 8:07Speaker 7: that are completely done, two from homeschooling and three from
- 8:12Speaker 7: public schooling. And I want all parents to have that choice,
- 8:17Speaker 7: whether they choose public school, private school, charter school, homeschool,
- 8:24Speaker 7: micro schools, or a combination of all of that together.
- 8:28Speaker 7: I want those to be available to the children so
- 8:32Speaker 7: they can learn how they learn best.
- 8:34Speaker 6: Talking with delicate Kathy has Kraus, this Morning, but Dave
- 8:36Speaker 6: Island Show and find any Life broad to you a

- 8:54Speaker 6: dot com. All right, so the reason I ask you
- 8:56Speaker 6: heres today is you have an incredible story a purple heart.
- 9:02Speaker 6: Talk about this well.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I was contacted several weeks ago by James McCormick. He
- 9:08Speaker 7: is the past National Commander of the Military Order of
- 9:12Speaker 7: the Purple Heart. He's very active in any military organization
- 9:18Speaker 7: around here. He does a lot for veterans. Great guy.
- 9:21Speaker 7: He contacted me that some CSX workers were in Putnam
- 9:28Speaker 7: County working on the train tracks, you know, doing some
- 9:31Speaker 7: checks and fixes and everything, and they came across laying
- 9:38Speaker 7: on the train tracks in hurricane a purple heart, a
- 9:42Speaker 7: real purple heart.
- 9:44Speaker 2: And.
- 9:46Speaker 7: It was engraved with the name on the back. And
- 9:49Speaker 7: through a little bit of checking and everything, it ended
- 9:51Speaker 7: up that this private who's named Private Robert Lee Lawrence.
- 9:56Speaker 7: He lived in Robertsburg within my district, and they asked
- 10:02Speaker 7: me if I could help find a permanent home for
- 10:06Speaker 7: this purple heart to put it in a place of
- 10:08Speaker 7: honor when it had just been disposed of on the
- 10:12Speaker 7: train tracks. They had not been able to locate any
- 10:15Speaker 7: family members the young man. It appears he married around
- 10:20Speaker 7: the age of sixteen and listed in the military as
- 10:24Speaker 7: a marine around the age of seventeen. Was sent to
- 10:28Speaker 7: Okinawa when it started on April first of nineteen forty five,
- 10:33Speaker 7: and he was killed over there April twenty third of
- 10:36Speaker 7: nineteen forty five. So he was later buried in Kentucky.
- 10:41Speaker 7: They've tried locating family. They have no idea how this
- 10:45Speaker 7: purple heart ended up on the train tracks in Hurricane
- 10:49Speaker 7: in perfect condition, so they are getting it put into
- 10:54Speaker 7: a nice shadow box. I've got legislative citation for not
- 10:59Speaker 7: only the private first class, but for also the CSX workers,
- 11:04Speaker 7: and we're going to do a presentation. And I've asked
- 11:06Speaker 7: around and we're going to decide as the group, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 7: where's maybe going to be the best place for this.
- 11:13Speaker 7: And I have gotten permission from both Putnam County Courthouse
- 11:18Speaker 7: to put it there, and also the Culture Center, so
- 11:22Speaker 7: both places are more than willing to put it in
- 11:24Speaker 7: a place of honor permanently so that it's on display
- 11:29Speaker 7: so this doesn't happen again if we, of course, cannot
- 11:32Speaker 7: find any family that it would rightfully belong to.
- 11:35Speaker 6: This is I heard this story a couple of weeks ago,
- 11:38Speaker 6: I guess, and I know. I think the house actually
- 11:41Speaker 6: put out a press release on it. I got because
- 11:43Speaker 6: I got I got the press release. That's where I
- 11:45Speaker 6: first learned this story. So what what means have you
- 11:49Speaker 6: and others used to try to contact this gentleman's family. Well, yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 6: there is any.
- 11:54Speaker 7: To what they've They've went through records and they've tried
- 11:58Speaker 7: to locate family. But this is back in nineteen forty five,
- 12:05Speaker 7: and he had no children. It appears he had no siblings.
- 12:11Speaker 7: He was married. I don't know if they've been able
- 12:14Speaker 7: to locate who is his wife at the time. We
- 12:18Speaker 7: have her name, it's Dorothy Juanita Daughtery, but we have
- 12:24Speaker 7: not been able to do any locations. I know they're
- 12:26Speaker 7: still looking the I.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Mean chances are chances are at that age, I mean
- 12:31Speaker 6: just simple math today that she's probably deceased now, but
- 12:36Speaker 6: I mean, perhaps she maybe remarried, and maybe there's kids.
- 12:41Speaker 6: I mean, because you know it's I mean, I know
- 12:43Speaker 6: you're doing your dual due diligence to try to find
- 12:45Speaker 6: the family here, Delegate, but that's just a fascinating story
- 12:49Speaker 6: to me. I don't know why. It just appealed to
- 12:51Speaker 6: me so much.
- 12:51Speaker 7: I've got Randall Reid Smith at the archives at the
- 12:56Speaker 7: Culture Center. They are looking for anything through archives they
- 13:00Speaker 7: can find, I know, the military of the Purple Heart.
- 13:03Speaker 7: They're trying to do what they can do to see
- 13:06Speaker 7: if they can find any records of anyone. But as
- 13:10Speaker 7: of this time, nothing has came up yet.
- 13:13Speaker 6: And it was interesting because on Friday's show, I talked
- 13:16Speaker 6: about you being on this show, and I gave a
- 13:19Speaker 6: little and so I got a call here at the
- 13:21Speaker 6: office a little bit later on from a gentleman by
- 13:23Speaker 6: the name of mister Persinger, not Fred, but a different
- 13:26Speaker 6: mister Persinger, who had said that he had known someone
- 13:29Speaker 6: whose Purple Heart, if I remember, the story was actually stolen.
- 13:33Speaker 6: I got that message to you. You were out of state,
- 13:36Speaker 6: but I was able to track you down and I
- 13:38Speaker 6: got you and you and he talked. But that this
- 13:42Speaker 6: is not, and you both determined this is not the
- 13:44Speaker 6: one that was missing from this listener.
- 13:47Speaker 7: So the purple heart that was found on the train tracks,
- 13:49Speaker 7: as I said, it was engraved in the back, so
- 13:51Speaker 7: we know exactly who it belonged to. And mister Persinger,
- 13:55Speaker 7: I called him as soon as I excuse me, as
- 13:57Speaker 7: soon as I spoke with you, I called and spoke
- 13:59Speaker 7: with him, and it was what it had been. It
- 14:03Speaker 7: belongs to a gentleman. So anybody has information on a
- 14:07Speaker 7: purple heart out there, has it in their possession for
- 14:12Speaker 7: whatever reason. However it came about. It was a Corbet
- 14:16Speaker 7: Miller and he was a World War Two It was
- 14:18Speaker 7: the first thing again Corbett Corbett Miller. Okay, Corbett Miller.
- 14:21Speaker 7: He was a World War two VET prisoner of war
- 14:24Speaker 7: in the Battle of the Bulge. His son Terry had
- 14:27Speaker 7: had possession of it until it was stolen and they
- 14:32Speaker 7: have not been able to locate it.
- 14:34Speaker 6: Okay, Well check the pawn chops or whatever, because people
- 14:37Speaker 6: don't realize what it is that they have there, you know,
- 14:40Speaker 6: and even when you tell me. And I didn't serve
- 14:42Speaker 6: in military, but my father did not certainly have a
- 14:44Speaker 6: lot of respect for military folks. As we start to
- 14:46Speaker 6: wrap this up, I did have. Yeah, I've got such
- 14:48Speaker 6: a respect for military folks. And when you talk about people,
- 14:51Speaker 6: you know, the first gentleman that you mentioned his he
- 14:54Speaker 6: had served in Okinawa. It was killed in Okinawa. And
- 14:57Speaker 6: then the second gentleman of that, mister persinger out to
- 15:00Speaker 6: us about he was he's hit the Shilman had served
- 15:03Speaker 6: as the Battle of the Bulge. I mean, he's just
- 15:05Speaker 6: both in World War Two, some of the most iconic
- 15:08Speaker 6: battles in American military history. And it just goes to
- 15:13Speaker 6: show you. You know, nobody has ever given more to
- 15:16Speaker 6: the United States military than what West Virginia has. We've
- 15:19Speaker 6: lost more people per capita than any other state in
- 15:22Speaker 6: the nation because it's it's kind of what we do.
- 15:24Speaker 6: We answer the call of duty. Here, Delicates, So let
- 15:26Speaker 6: me go back to school choice here, just from before
- 15:28Speaker 6: we let you go. I had a text here, a
- 15:30Speaker 6: delicate said, I want to send my kids to private school,
- 15:32Speaker 6: but I can't afford the transportation and wouldn't be able
- 15:35Speaker 6: to take time from work to drive the kids. Anyway,
- 15:37Speaker 6: Can Delicate Cross explain to me why I don't have
- 15:39Speaker 6: school choice.
- 15:42Speaker 7: Well, I will say this coming up in the twenty
- 15:46Speaker 7: six school year, everyone including those currently in private school,
- 15:52Speaker 7: will become eligible for Hope Scholarship. At this point, children
- 15:58Speaker 7: have to be in public school to be eleg for
- 16:00Speaker 7: Hope Scholarship or be returned to public school for forty
- 16:03Speaker 7: five days to receive it. But in twenty six they
- 16:06Speaker 7: become eligible and that money can be used for not
- 16:11Speaker 7: only private school tuition. It could be used for things
- 16:15Speaker 7: like transportation, uniforms, just a variety of different things, tutoring.
- 16:22Speaker 7: It can be used for homeschooling. So there is that.
- 16:29Speaker 7: It's of course, not a fix for this very moment.
- 16:33Speaker 7: There are I believe some counties that may allow bus
- 16:39Speaker 7: transportation if it's along the route, but I don't have
- 16:43Speaker 7: those counties available or anything.
- 16:45Speaker 6: Because we are running over overtime. Here, give me your
- 16:48Speaker 6: if you want whatever contact information you'd like to put
- 16:51Speaker 6: out different people, if they have the story about the
- 16:53Speaker 6: Purple Heart, if they know anything about this showman, give
- 16:55Speaker 6: me his name.
- 16:55Speaker 7: Again, Corbert Miller. Oh, yeah, I'm sorry, the other Purple Heart. Yes,
- 17:00Speaker 7: that's private first class Robert Lee Lawrence. Okay, and he
- 17:04Speaker 7: was born February twenty six of nineteen twenty seven.
- 17:08Speaker 6: Okay, and we're trying to because apparently he the story
- 17:11Speaker 6: is he was married at sixteen, had no kids, has
- 17:13Speaker 6: no siblings, and his this just showed up on a
- 17:16Speaker 6: CSX crossing at hirk in.
- 17:18Speaker 7: This purple heart, perfect condition.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Perfect condition. They're trying to get it back to the family.
- 17:22Speaker 6: So where can people contact you or do you feel
- 17:24Speaker 6: comfortable with that or what do you want to give us?
- 17:25Speaker 7: So if anybody has any information, they can either email
- 17:29Speaker 7: me at my house email which is Kathy K A
- 17:32Speaker 7: T H I E dot Krause c R O U
- 17:36Speaker 7: S E at WV House dot gov. And they can
- 17:40Speaker 7: call me my house phone is three oh four three

- 21:33Speaker 6: are you.
- 21:33Speaker 11: Good morning, Dave. I'm doing very very well out with.
- 21:35Speaker 6: Voice is a lot louder than Kathy Kraus's.
- 21:37Speaker 11: I'll say that, I don't know she Hey, she does
- 21:39Speaker 11: a good job for fount here. We're proud. I've listened
- 21:41Speaker 11: to her interview. We're very proud of of school.
- 21:43Speaker 6: To say nobody every I can say this because she's
- 21:45Speaker 6: gone now. Nobody ever accuses Kathy Krauss I having a
- 21:47Speaker 6: small mouth, And I say that would love you know,
- 21:50Speaker 6: but but but it's soft, so I gotta bay it
- 21:53Speaker 6: down a little bit. How's the podcast going.
- 21:54Speaker 11: It's going really well. We've got very good listenership. Actually,
- 21:59Speaker 11: just a couple of weeks ago I interviewed one of
- 22:02Speaker 11: your regular guests on the show, Mayor Danny Jones. He
- 22:05Speaker 11: came on and we talked for over an hour, so
- 22:07Speaker 11: that was fun.
- 22:08Speaker 6: He's what was the gist of the conversation there with Danny.
- 22:12Speaker 11: Well, you know, Danny's a guy that has a lot
- 22:15Speaker 11: of stories. What really really all all of the things
- 22:19Speaker 11: that he's done and love him so interesting. So I
- 22:22Speaker 11: wanted to ask him, you know, why why did you
- 22:24Speaker 11: become a biscuit maker? Why were you a grave digger?
- 22:26Speaker 11: Why were you you know, all these things. So he
- 22:28Speaker 11: talked about his time in Vietnam and of course his
- 22:30Speaker 11: Thomas mayor and things like that. So I don't know,
- 22:33Speaker 11: I just I love the stories he tells, so I said, hey,
- 22:34Speaker 11: we'll get you on. So he did a really good job.
- 22:36Speaker 6: Danny's a guy that could probably write two, three or
- 22:38Speaker 6: four books, you know, and and and none of them
- 22:41Speaker 6: will be related to each other, you know, one about
- 22:43Speaker 6: his career as sheriff, one about his career as a
- 22:45Speaker 6: radio host, one about the longest serving mayor in Charleston history.
- 22:48Speaker 6: I'm glad that I was able to help you because
- 22:50Speaker 6: you reached out to me about getting Danny on there
- 22:52Speaker 6: on your show. What is the name of the podcast
- 22:54Speaker 6: and people wanted to look at a.
- 22:55Speaker 11: Viewpoint with Tony Hodge. If your point with Tony Hodge,
- 22:57Speaker 11: it's on all podcasting platforms. Just you can google it
- 23:00Speaker 11: or you know, search word on your podcast platform. It's
- 23:02Speaker 11: very easy to find. We'll be doing a new episode today.
- 23:05Speaker 11: It'll be out tomorrow morning.
- 23:06Speaker 6: All right, can you give us a little preview? What
- 23:07Speaker 6: you doing today?
- 23:08Speaker 11: Well, I mean you're listening to it right now.
- 23:12Speaker 6: Ah, I got it, got it.
- 23:13Speaker 11: We'll cover we'll cover some events of the days mostly
- 23:17Speaker 11: probably on this episode, probably mostly political stuff, politics, election stuff.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Because not Here's the thing about your podcast, it's not
- 23:23Speaker 6: all I mean, it kind of touches on politics, Tony,
- 23:26Speaker 6: but it's not all politics. I mean you're a big
- 23:29Speaker 6: on family issues and societal issues and things of that
- 23:32Speaker 6: nature as well.
- 23:32Speaker 11: What I like to talk about mostly is you know,
- 23:36Speaker 11: people will have political positions, or they'll have different opinions
- 23:39Speaker 11: on different things. What I like to figure out is
- 23:41Speaker 11: what's the worldview behind that? Why are you so pro business?
- 23:45Speaker 11: Why are you so I don't know, pro abortion or
- 23:47Speaker 11: pro life or whatever the case may be. Why are
- 23:49Speaker 11: you what caused you to be so pro school choice?
- 23:53Speaker 11: Like like your previous guests, I like to find out
- 23:55Speaker 11: what the worldview is behind that. You know, there's always
- 23:58Speaker 11: backup questions and that's what I like to get in.
- 24:00Speaker 6: But ave Alan Chilling five any line Bright to part
- 24:02Speaker 6: by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. All right,
- 24:05Speaker 6: first time, I think, first time you've been on since
- 24:07Speaker 6: the election. The understatement of the year, it's a good
- 24:10Speaker 6: time to be a Republican.
- 24:11Speaker 11: It really is. Yeah, I mean we won. Of course
- 24:13Speaker 11: West Virginia took care of business, and we knew we would.
- 24:15Speaker 11: We work really hard in West Virginia at the Republican
- 24:18Speaker 11: Party to make sure our bases are covered locally all
- 24:21Speaker 11: the way up through to the State House and then
- 24:23Speaker 11: of course our national elections. So we took care of business.
- 24:26Speaker 11: But I'll tell you, man, there's a big political realignment
- 24:29Speaker 11: going on right now in the country, and it really
- 24:32Speaker 11: everybody really needs to pay attention because I think it's
- 24:34Speaker 11: a realignment that's not going to go away. It's here
- 24:36Speaker 11: to stay. And that is the Republican Party is now
- 24:39Speaker 11: the it's kind of like the hard hat party, right.
- 24:43Speaker 11: The Democratic Party obviously walked away from working class people.
- 24:47Speaker 11: I even hear a lot of their leadership. They'll even say,
- 24:49Speaker 11: if you listen real close to them, they'll say, we
- 24:51Speaker 11: need to get back to focusing on the working class.
- 24:54Speaker 11: They even know that they walked away from them because
- 24:56Speaker 11: what they did is they focused so much on identity
- 24:58Speaker 11: politics and things like this, and when people are dealing
- 25:01Speaker 11: with inflation and illegal immigration, being boxed in on identity
- 25:07Speaker 11: politics and things like this, they see that when it's
- 25:11Speaker 11: pinching their pocketbooks and they're having a hard time providing
- 25:13Speaker 11: for their family or having a hard time even finding
- 25:15Speaker 11: a job, or things are just so expensive, they're going
- 25:19Speaker 11: to turn away from, you know, the left leaning position
- 25:22Speaker 11: that they've had in this country now for the last
- 25:23Speaker 11: four years, and then before Trump's first term, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 11: we dealt with left leaning politics and kind it kind
- 25:31Speaker 11: of peaked there in twenty late twenty twenty, and then
- 25:34Speaker 11: in twenty twenty one, as far as like the identity
- 25:36Speaker 11: politics goes, it peaked. And now that is no longer
- 25:41Speaker 11: in style. It's on its way out the door really
- 25:43Speaker 11: really fast. And so right now it's inflation in the
- 25:45Speaker 11: economy and people, you know, look, you can say all
- 25:49Speaker 11: you want about the inflation numbers, you can say that
- 25:51Speaker 11: inflation's down, and technically it has inched down. But the
- 25:55Speaker 11: fact is is the prices, the inflation calls to go
- 25:58Speaker 11: up are still there. They never came back down, and
- 26:00Speaker 11: wages didn't keep up. You know, you're going out and
- 26:02Speaker 11: you're spending four dollars on a dozen of a dozen eggs?
- 26:04Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 26:06Speaker 11: And so the voters firmly rejected that all across the country.
- 26:10Speaker 11: And I will say the Republican Party as far as
- 26:12Speaker 11: the presidential race, we won the popular vote for the
- 26:15Speaker 11: first time in twenty years. I mean, I kind of
- 26:18Speaker 11: hate to say that it's been twenty years that we've
- 26:19Speaker 11: won the popular vote, but let's just come on here
- 26:21Speaker 11: and talk about facts. It's been twenty years. But the
- 26:24Speaker 11: thing is is we did win it. We won it decisively.
- 26:28Speaker 11: We're gonna win it again coming up real soon, because
- 26:30Speaker 11: we think things are going to go really, really well.
- 26:33Speaker 11: And so there's a big realignment going on right now
- 26:35Speaker 11: in this country, and I'm really excited for it. I think,
- 26:38Speaker 11: in fact, a lot of the people that I talked to,
- 26:39Speaker 11: voters and things like that, they're excited. Nobody's feeling nervous,
- 26:42Speaker 11: everybody's feeling very optimistic the markets. I heard earlier your
- 26:46Speaker 11: show earlier talking about the markets. The markets are feeling
- 26:50Speaker 11: good right now. People are a little bit more optimistic,
- 26:54Speaker 11: and so you know, run our way up. We're back.
- 26:57Speaker 6: One of the interesting things that I have found is,
- 27:00Speaker 6: of course after this election again we're talking with Tony Hodge,
- 27:03Speaker 6: is there's gonna be no matter which party has the
- 27:05Speaker 6: big victory, there's gonna be a little gloating. Okay, that
- 27:08Speaker 6: that that's that goes with the territory. Okay, when you
- 27:10Speaker 6: win the super Bowl, you spike the ball and you
- 27:12Speaker 6: pour gator in on each other.
- 27:13Speaker 13: I get that.
- 27:14Speaker 6: But one of the things I found interesting about this election, Tony,
- 27:17Speaker 6: was even the folks that were many of the pundits,
- 27:21Speaker 6: many of the more and you know, I have a
- 27:23Speaker 6: tendency to kind of gravitate toward toward comedic personalities, the
- 27:27Speaker 6: Bill Maher's, the John Stewarts of the world. They said
- 27:30Speaker 6: a lot of what you are saying. And Bill Maher,
- 27:33Speaker 6: I know you're not a fan of Bill Maher, but
- 27:34Speaker 6: specifically he on his post election so said pretty much
- 27:39Speaker 6: what you're saying now. And he is as left as
- 27:41Speaker 6: you can possibly get. Although he's not quote unquote woke.
- 27:44Speaker 6: I mean he's got booed by his own audience, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 6: for some of the things he's said about the quote
- 27:48Speaker 6: unquote woke movement. But but even those folks you expected
- 27:52Speaker 6: to hear it from from from you, or you expect
- 27:54Speaker 6: here from Matt Harriage or whatever. But even those folks
- 27:57Speaker 6: are saying the Democratic Party has got to get their
- 28:00Speaker 6: head on straight. I mean that's from the people on
- 28:02Speaker 6: the far left, many of them that are saying that
- 28:04Speaker 6: exact same thing. And the fact that the Democratic Party
- 28:08Speaker 6: for many years was known as the working as what
- 28:10Speaker 6: is my good friend Mike Pushkin says, interested in the
- 28:13Speaker 6: people that signed the back of the check as well
- 28:15Speaker 6: as the front. I love that line, by the way.
- 28:17Speaker 6: But that started they started to shift a little bit,
- 28:20Speaker 6: at least in the eyes of obviously a lot of Americans.
- 28:24Speaker 11: Well it started to shift a little bit in twenty sixteen.
- 28:27Speaker 11: It we're in twenty twenty four now, and it shifted
- 28:30Speaker 11: a lot. And a good example of what you're talking about. Well,
- 28:32Speaker 11: first of all, let me say you are correct. I've
- 28:35Speaker 11: never watched Bill Barker's show. I've never The only thing
- 28:38Speaker 11: I know about him is things that I see people
- 28:40Speaker 11: post online, you know, and see quotes that he says.
- 28:42Speaker 11: But I've ever watched it. But I did peruse a
- 28:46Speaker 11: little bit of his book. He has a new book out,
- 28:48Speaker 11: and a little bit that I read and it was
- 28:49Speaker 11: actually it was actually really interesting. It was filthy, but
- 28:52Speaker 11: it was interesting. But I don't anyway. But I'll tell
- 28:56Speaker 11: you a good example of what you're speaking of is
- 28:59Speaker 11: Joe Rogan.
- 29:00Speaker 13: Man.
- 29:00Speaker 11: This was a huge deal that Donald Trump went on
- 29:02Speaker 11: Joe Rogan's pocket. You know, Joe Rogan, he started his
- 29:05Speaker 11: career as a He is a comedian. That's what he does.
- 29:07Speaker 6: Is His first big claim to fame was he hosted
- 29:09Speaker 6: The Man Show. He was the second host of The
- 29:12Speaker 6: Man Show, which you know, Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla
- 29:16Speaker 6: were the first host, but then when they went away,
- 29:19Speaker 6: Rogan and Doug Stanhope were the second host of The
- 29:22Speaker 6: Man Show, which was basically, for lack of a better term,
- 29:24Speaker 6: hohod years Tony. It was a T and a fast
- 29:27Speaker 6: on Comedy Central, and that's where he really really made
- 29:31Speaker 6: his bones.
- 29:31Speaker 11: But go ahead, well that's where he got famous as
- 29:33Speaker 11: a stand up comic. And then then he you know,
- 29:35Speaker 11: he got it interested in UFC, but but when he
- 29:39Speaker 11: went over into podcasting, it's what makes this podcast so
- 29:41Speaker 11: unique is that he well, first of all, he's the
- 29:44Speaker 11: most listened to podcasts in the entire world. Okay, so
- 29:47Speaker 11: Donald Trump was correct for now until you overtake him.
- 29:50Speaker 11: We're working on it. You know, we're allies. But you know,
- 29:53Speaker 11: and another thing that played a big role in this
- 29:56Speaker 11: was Baron Trump. The Wall Street Journal did a huge
- 29:59Speaker 11: story on Aaron Trump's influence on his father. That's Donald
- 30:02Speaker 11: Trump's son.
- 30:03Speaker 6: If you don't know, by the way, he has grown
- 30:05Speaker 6: like two feet since he's save feet tall. He's got
- 30:08Speaker 6: saw about TV. I was like, wow, talk about a
- 30:11Speaker 6: growth pert.
- 30:11Speaker 11: But anyway, yeah, he's seven feet tall. When when I
- 30:13Speaker 11: was with Donald Trump, Donald Trump himself is a tall man.
- 30:15Speaker 11: I've got a picture of him and I stand him
- 30:17Speaker 11: beside each other. He's quite a bit taller than me.
- 30:19Speaker 11: If you look at Baron Trump beside Donald Trump, he's
- 30:21Speaker 11: like seven feet tall. But anyway, he's a young man
- 30:23Speaker 11: probably I don't know how he is, maybe twenty or
- 30:25Speaker 11: something or maybe not even that old. But he influenced
- 30:28Speaker 11: his father to to connect with a lot of these
- 30:32Speaker 11: these guys who do these new new types of media,
- 30:35Speaker 11: Joe Rogan being one of them. And Joe Rogan even
- 30:38Speaker 11: has said since he had Donald Trump on how you
- 30:40Speaker 11: know he was an Obama supporter, Joe Rogan was. He's
- 30:43Speaker 11: been you know, kind of on the left, I think
- 30:46Speaker 11: for most of his adult life. I don't want to
- 30:48Speaker 11: speak for him, but people can go and find out
- 30:50Speaker 11: his quotes, and he's been mostly on the left. But
- 30:52Speaker 11: he has said, especially in the past, you know, four
- 30:54Speaker 11: to eight years, that he's you know, he's switched and
- 30:57Speaker 11: he's he's came over to the right. That's just a microcosm. Well,
- 31:01Speaker 11: if you want to call it that, Joe Rogan's big,
- 31:02Speaker 11: but it's just one example of how people who once
- 31:06Speaker 11: were on the left are now coming to the right.
- 31:08Speaker 11: And it's it's happening everywhere.
- 31:09Speaker 6: And it doesn't mean that they necessarily embrace all of
- 31:12Speaker 6: the right's activities, you know, but it's just the it
- 31:16Speaker 6: seems to me that a lot on the left, Tony,
- 31:18Speaker 6: and this is what going back to build more r
- 31:20Speaker 6: people like that I said, is that many of them
- 31:22Speaker 6: have just lost their lost their common sense.
- 31:24Speaker 11: Well, they had a lot of things they have a
- 31:26Speaker 11: lot of it. It's two main things. There's there's four
- 31:29Speaker 11: main things that I think affected the selection, but two
- 31:31Speaker 11: things stand out even more. It's inflation and identity politics.
- 31:34Speaker 11: Those were the two that really stand out as getting
- 31:37Speaker 11: the Democrats be But you're right, you don't have to
- 31:39Speaker 11: agree with everything in the Republican Party, although you know
- 31:42Speaker 11: we want we want people a lot of times in agreement.
- 31:44Speaker 11: But even Ronald Reagan said, hey, if you're with me
- 31:46Speaker 11: on eighty percent of the things, then we're together. And
- 31:49Speaker 11: that's what we're seeing a lot of.
- 31:51Speaker 6: Before we close, I want to talk about a couple
- 31:53Speaker 6: of things. One is in West Virginia. I mean, it's
- 31:55Speaker 6: a foregone conclude. We pretty much knew what was going
- 31:57Speaker 6: to happen in West Virginia, and West Virginia was going
- 31:59Speaker 6: to go for Trump in a huge way. On the
- 32:02Speaker 6: state level, I mean, the only person that's maintaining their
- 32:05Speaker 6: office as far as the Bard of Public Works is
- 32:07Speaker 6: the Department of Agriculture Kent Lee and Hart, and that's
- 32:09Speaker 6: because he decided to stay there. We're going to have
- 32:12Speaker 6: all new Republicans Secretary of State, which, by the way,
- 32:14Speaker 6: the new Secretary of State, Chris Warner, is going to
- 32:16Speaker 6: be on the show on Wednesday, and the new Attorney General,
- 32:20Speaker 6: J B. McCuskey, who was state auditor, is going to
- 32:22Speaker 6: be on this show tomorrow. We're going to have Patrick
- 32:25Speaker 6: Morrissey on in the future, former Attorney general now governor elect.
- 32:28Speaker 6: Even Jim Justice is now headed to Washington. And these
- 32:31Speaker 6: races that most of these folks had Tony were not
- 32:34Speaker 6: even close.
- 32:35Speaker 11: Well, and I'll you brought up JB. McCuskey right there.
- 32:38Speaker 11: You know, he got really big numbers and he's doing it.
- 32:40Speaker 11: He's going to do a great job as our attorney general.
- 32:42Speaker 11: But I heard on your show just the other day,
- 32:44Speaker 11: I think it was on Friday, you had a very
- 32:46Speaker 11: prominent Knaw County Democrat speaking through this microphone and he
- 32:50Speaker 11: said publicly out loud that he voted and supported voted
- 32:54Speaker 11: for his supported JB. Mccuske. And so that's why they
- 32:57Speaker 11: get such big numbers, because even Democrats vote for him.
- 33:00Speaker 11: So it was Bensilango. He was the he's Knawan County Commissioner.
- 33:04Speaker 11: He's the one that's helping out with the lights down
- 33:06Speaker 11: there at the ball field, which are awesome. You know,
- 33:08Speaker 11: all of our families love that we went last year.
- 33:10Speaker 11: We haven't gone this year yet, but we want to
- 33:11Speaker 11: go and all that's great. But even he said publicly
- 33:14Speaker 11: on your show that he voted for JB. McCuskey. So
- 33:16Speaker 11: we have a lot of crossover, you know, And that
- 33:18Speaker 11: just goes to show that Republicans, if they're not leaving
- 33:22Speaker 11: the Democratic Party, excuse me, Democrats, if they're not leaving
- 33:25Speaker 11: the Democratic Party, they're voting for Republicans. And it's obvious,
- 33:28Speaker 11: I mean, because if you look at the ballots, it's
- 33:31Speaker 11: obvious Democrats are voting for us. And we appreciate that.
- 33:34Speaker 11: We're glad that they're listening to our message, and we
- 33:36Speaker 11: welcome their votes and we're here to help them. I
- 33:38Speaker 11: know a lot of our public officials that I worked
- 33:41Speaker 11: to help get elected, they'll tell you that once elected,
- 33:44Speaker 11: they're elected officials for everybody, not just Republican.
- 33:46Speaker 6: Right before we go, and I hate to do this,
- 33:48Speaker 6: in like thirty to forty five seconds, but we're running
- 33:50Speaker 6: a little bit behind Amendment one in West Virginia.
- 33:52Speaker 11: Oh well, it passed, you know, and that's all that
- 33:54Speaker 11: matters is it passed. There was a big media push
- 33:58Speaker 11: to get it to fail. I feel like and we
- 34:01Speaker 11: had some money start coming in at the very end
- 34:03Speaker 11: to try to get it to fail a lot. And
- 34:05Speaker 11: when I say fil I'm talking about like liberals. Liberals
- 34:08Speaker 11: were pushing hard for it to fail. But we got
- 34:11Speaker 11: our messaging out there from a lot of different corners
- 34:14Speaker 11: of the state. We appreciate deligate, Pat McGahn. He's the
- 34:16Speaker 11: one that put this thing out there. We appreciate his
- 34:19Speaker 11: idea on it. And let me tell you this. I
- 34:20Speaker 11: want to announce this in case listeners don't know. We
- 34:23Speaker 11: are the first and only state in the entire United
- 34:26Speaker 11: States of America that has a constitutional amendment against euthanasia
- 34:30Speaker 11: and assistant suicide. We are leading, We're leading the way,
- 34:34Speaker 11: and we're very proud of our work and we're glad
- 34:36Speaker 11: we got that done. We got it over the finish
- 34:37Speaker 11: line and it is in the constitution.
- 34:40Speaker 6: Tex says, I forgot about this. Dave Joe Rogan's first
- 34:43Speaker 6: claim to fame was on news radio in the nineteen nineties.
- 34:46Speaker 6: Literally Show about what you Do for a living and
- 34:48Speaker 6: easily the funniest show up from the nineties. Go bench it.

- 34:54Speaker 6: it was on. Dave Foley was on that show, Andy
- 34:56Speaker 6: Dick and several other people. Joe Rogan was a big
- 34:58Speaker 6: part of that show. I completely from about that. I
- 35:01Speaker 6: watched the show. I should I should have known that,
- 35:03Speaker 6: but uh, and it's always on. I just noticed one
- 35:05Speaker 6: of the I call them the rerun channels, you know
- 35:08Speaker 6: as aeron at constantly. Tony. I appreciate you being here, man,
- 35:12Speaker 6: Thanks a lot.

- 38:55Speaker 2: You just like.
- 39:00Speaker 3: I love your smooth transition from politics to Christmas.
- 39:04Speaker 6: Yeah, something hopefully we can all agree on. Well, before
- 39:07Speaker 6: you know it, Downtown Charleston is going to come alive.
- 39:09Speaker 6: We've already seeing that over at the ballpark with the
- 39:11Speaker 6: sangle little light, the night that started last week. And
- 39:14Speaker 6: now we're gonna do We're gonna holly jolly, Bradley, I'm
- 39:16Speaker 6: gonna use that as a verb. Is that okay?
- 39:18Speaker 3: Absolutely all right?
- 39:19Speaker 6: So what's going on? When and where?
- 39:21Speaker 3: So holly jolly probably kicks off on Friday, November twenty
- 39:24Speaker 3: ninth at twelve o'clock. It's Friday and Saturday from twelve
- 39:29Speaker 3: pm to eight pm. There's a lot going on this year,
- 39:33Speaker 3: dave a lot, and we've atted a lot this year,
- 39:35Speaker 3: and I can let Kevin talk a little bit about.
- 39:37Speaker 6: It before we get to the talk about how the
- 39:39Speaker 6: whole thing began. I mean the whole holiday. I mean
- 39:41Speaker 6: you guys have been on it from.
- 39:44Speaker 5: This year five.
- 39:44Speaker 10: This year, this is year four down for Downtown Charleston Association.
- 39:49Speaker 10: Prior to that was the year of COVID and the city,
- 39:52Speaker 10: which doesn't count.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I mean it adds to the magic
- 39:57Speaker 3: of the story.
- 39:58Speaker 11: Yeah, without that happening wouldn't be happening.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Gold, gold, Frankenstons and COVID. Yeah, that's the wise Man
- 40:05Speaker 6: had it or something.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you know, you know it was a
- 40:07Speaker 3: It was a it was an idea kind of formed
- 40:09Speaker 3: by a small group of people with twenty trees the
- 40:13Speaker 3: first year. And I'll remember texting Kevin like Kevin, uh,
- 40:16Speaker 3: you're gonna have to decorate a tree and he's like what.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Uh.
- 40:20Speaker 3: And you know, the vision from the beginning was to
- 40:22Speaker 3: grow it and turn it into something like this. So
- 40:24Speaker 3: to kind of see its growth every year is it's
- 40:26Speaker 3: truly magical.
- 40:27Speaker 6: And I mean again, this thing started very very small,
- 40:30Speaker 6: like most good ideas do, and you just kept building
- 40:32Speaker 6: it and building it and building it, and uh to
- 40:34Speaker 6: last year it was fantastic. And this year your promising
- 40:36Speaker 6: is going to be even bigger and better because light
- 40:39Speaker 6: the Night is like double the lights that they had
- 40:41Speaker 6: last year. So we kind of got a I feel like.
- 40:44Speaker 3: We've we've doubled our numbers in every sense of the word.
- 40:48Speaker 3: This year.
- 40:48Speaker 6: Take take that Andy share what they're saying. What they're
- 40:52Speaker 6: saying is is they got one more light than they
- 40:54Speaker 6: We got one more decoration than what they do over there.
- 40:57Speaker 6: I'm gonna start a fight, That's what I want to
- 40:58Speaker 6: We We love life, and I know everybody kind of
- 41:03Speaker 6: works together to make Charleston kind of like the almost
- 41:06Speaker 6: like the Christmas town, so to speak.
- 41:08Speaker 3: That's the goal.
- 41:08Speaker 10: That's the goal.
- 41:09Speaker 6: That's the goal.
- 41:10Speaker 10: And you know, like Morgan said, the event does start,
- 41:12Speaker 10: does kick off on Friday the twenty ninth, and it's
- 41:14Speaker 10: a two day celebration. But this event the displays up
- 41:18Speaker 10: until January first, So you know, bring your family, bring
- 41:22Speaker 10: your friends down. But the display, you need to reiterate,
- 41:25Speaker 10: it doesn't go. It doesn't come down after two days.
- 41:27Speaker 10: It's a whole month celebration.
- 41:29Speaker 6: So what do people see there that maybe haven't taken
- 41:32Speaker 6: it into the past.
- 41:33Speaker 10: Got one hundred and sixty Christmas trees one hundred and
- 41:37Speaker 10: sixty two Christmas trees decorated from City Center at Seleck
- 41:40Speaker 10: Plaza down Brawley Walkway me entering down through Lee Triangle.
- 41:46Speaker 10: If the light show kicks off on the Friday the
- 41:49Speaker 10: twenty ninth, the light show great like amazing sponsors this year,
- 41:54Speaker 10: WV Medicine Thomas Hospitals has really stepped up and they're
- 41:58Speaker 10: providing a drone show for us on on Friday the
- 42:02Speaker 10: twenty new.
- 42:03Speaker 3: This is new, yes, always, we felt like the city
- 42:06Speaker 3: tree lighting, you know, had hot a lot of hype
- 42:09Speaker 3: around it, and there were hundreds of people gathered and
- 42:11Speaker 3: we were trying to figure out a way to really
- 42:13Speaker 3: amp up the city tree lighting. So we're kicking it
- 42:16Speaker 3: off this year with a fifteen minute drone show.
- 42:18Speaker 10: It was an amazing story told by Bill Up. Okay,
- 42:22Speaker 10: so he's written a story about you know, twas the
- 42:25Speaker 10: night you know in Charleston before Holly Jolly Brawley and
- 42:29Speaker 10: some really cool shout out so you know about West
- 42:31Speaker 10: Virginian things of that nature. But the drone show'll end
- 42:34Speaker 10: with the countdown and then the tree will light, and
- 42:37Speaker 10: then it rolls.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Into the first synchronized lights, right show.
- 42:41Speaker 10: The light show's playing four times an hour.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Now, yeah, it's no two times an hour. I think
- 42:46Speaker 3: it's thirty minutes long exactly. So it'll play every night
- 42:51Speaker 3: until basically December thirty first starting it, I believe six
- 42:55Speaker 3: point thirty, but don't quote.
- 42:56Speaker 6: Me on that, and of course, you got Small Business
- 42:58Speaker 6: Saturday going on that and I know you're both small
- 43:01Speaker 6: business folks, so you'll be very involved in that, and
- 43:03Speaker 6: just a way to bring people downtown to patronize a
- 43:09Speaker 6: lot of these different businesses that are downtown and prove
- 43:13Speaker 6: that that downtown is doing really, really well. So our
- 43:15Speaker 6: small businesses go.
- 43:17Speaker 10: Art Walk this year is going to be on Black
- 43:19Speaker 10: Friday and Small Business Saturday, so you've got you know,
- 43:21Speaker 10: twelve to eight both days this year for Artwalk to
- 43:24Speaker 10: come down, buy some Christmas presents, you know, support your
- 43:29Speaker 10: local businesses.
- 43:30Speaker 3: And that's you know, that's kind of like our wholem
- 43:33Speaker 3: as an organization is to support downtown, support small businesses, retail, restaurants, bars,
- 43:38Speaker 3: all of it. We're both very buried into the downtown life.
- 43:43Speaker 3: We work, we live, we eat, We very probably will
- 43:45Speaker 3: be buried, yeah literally, And I think just supporting small
- 43:49Speaker 3: businesses are so important. So with you know, Black Friday,
- 43:53Speaker 3: Small Business Saturday, it is just our way of not
- 43:56Speaker 3: only gathering the community, but packing the stores, packing the restaurants,
- 44:01Speaker 3: you know, encouraging people to actually hit these retail shops
- 44:03Speaker 3: instead of ordering online. It could because literally putting food
- 44:08Speaker 3: on people's tables. Indeed, it all displays a part.
- 44:11Speaker 6: I'm going to ask you to hang out with me
- 44:12Speaker 6: just one second because we need to take a break.
- 44:13Speaker 6: I got a couple of questions more I want to
