- 0:06Speaker 1: It's Sonia and Joakim on the shock circuit. Although I've
- 0:09Speaker 1: been um trying to check on Joakim to find out
- 0:13Speaker 1: if he's almost here.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I've been waiting for him to start the show, but
- 0:18Speaker 1: I have a stinking feeling that because of the match
- 0:21Speaker 1: last night, he might be um pretty upset and disappointed.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I mean, I, I don't typically follow football at all,
- 0:27Speaker 1: as you know me, I'm clueless, but ever since I
- 0:30Speaker 1: decided that I was going to support City, this was
- 0:32Speaker 1: like what, a month ago when we posted a picture
- 0:35Speaker 1: or maybe slightly less than a month.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And uh we actually won and I think he might
- 0:39Speaker 1: be a little upset today. So I don't know where
- 0:41Speaker 1: he is, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna call him right
- 0:43Speaker 1: now to find out is he here? And I have
- 0:45Speaker 1: located Joakim, he is alive.
- 0:49Speaker 2: How am I? How am I awake is what I
- 0:51Speaker 2: want to know.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Are
- 0:52Speaker 1: you, are you feeling OK? Are you feeling upset?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Upset
- 0:56Speaker 2: for sure. I mean, there are so many words I
- 1:00Speaker 2: want to say about whatever happened earlier this morning with
- 1:03Speaker 2: regard to the Manchester derby, but you know what, to
- 1:06Speaker 2: be fair, well done, Manchester City. No, really, that's
- 1:10Speaker 1: right.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Going down to 10 men, Phil Foden getting a red
- 1:17Speaker 2: card for kicking out at Bruno Fernanch, but what happened
- 1:20Speaker 2: was they really galvanized. They got rallied, and Erling Harland,
- 1:25Speaker 2: take a bow, man.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I mean, he's the man. No,
- 1:28Speaker 2: he definitely is.
- 1:30Speaker 1: He is the reason that you sound, your voice is
- 1:32Speaker 1: like 2 octaves lower this morning from sadness and lack
- 1:35Speaker 1: of
- 1:35Speaker 1: sleep.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Erling Harlan is the perfect example of I like the
- 1:39Speaker 2: guy but not the team that he plays for.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It wasn't, it wasn't a hello.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Wasn't, wasn't there like some joke about his hair where
- 1:48Speaker 1: like if he cuts his hair, then he will lose
- 1:50Speaker 1: his mojo or something?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It's a joke,
- 1:53Speaker 1: is it? Or he just cut it off to prove
- 1:56Speaker 1: that like it doesn't affect his abilities or what.
- 2:00Speaker 2: back to how he looked like before the entire world
- 2:04Speaker 2: came to know of Erling Harland. So the current Erling
- 2:07Speaker 2: Harland hairstyle, some people are saying that it was him
- 2:10Speaker 2: playing for Borussia Dortmund when he was plying his trade
- 2:13Speaker 2: in Germany.
- 2:13Speaker 1: OK, well, regardless, I'm in a good mood today. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: know you are.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I hope you join me to being in a better
- 2:20Speaker 1: mood in a while. Never mind, it's OK. But anyway,
- 2:22Speaker 1: if you're tuning in already, it's close to 8:20, 8:20, 6:20.
- 2:27Speaker 1: It's Monday morning things. Um, if you're already up and
- 2:30Speaker 1: ready to get down to school or you're starting to
- 2:33Speaker 1: leave or you're already on the way, we send you
- 2:36Speaker 1: all kinds of love, hugs, you know, to be right
- 2:38Speaker 1: back and we might just open up phone lines for
- 2:41Speaker 1: you to get your dedications in.
- 2:42Speaker 2: And I just realized,
- 2:46Speaker 1: yes, PSLE.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Officially, the papers are what, like 2 weeks or less away.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Less than 2 weeks. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 1: exactly. So we wish you all the best. Hope you
- 2:53Speaker 1: had a great weekend and a fantastic first day back
- 2:56Speaker 1: at school.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Some good news coming your way involving the movie scene
- 3:01Speaker 2: here in Singapore. Not so much our Boys to Firemen,
- 3:04Speaker 2: but Anthony Chen's We Are All Strangers. Oh,
- 3:07Speaker 1: congratulations are in order, man. It's
- 3:09Speaker 2: selected
- 3:09Speaker 2: as Singapore's Oscars entry for the year 2027 and hopefully, hey,
- 3:15Speaker 2: it might win Best.
- 3:16Speaker 2: International feature film at the ninety-ninth Academy Awards happening next year. Congratulations,
- 3:23Speaker 2: Anthony Chen and Cho. Oh,
- 3:25Speaker 1: OK, you know what, I, I honestly am very, very
- 3:27Speaker 1: excited to see what happens. I mean, can you imagine
- 3:30Speaker 1: if Singapore finally ends up on the big stage like that?
- 3:32Speaker 1: That'd be so cool. It's
- 3:33Speaker 2: great. Yeah. Now, you know what, I think this film
- 3:36Speaker 2: needs another run in the box office here in Singapore,
- 3:40Speaker 2: another screening so that more people can go and see it.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I've no doubt they're gonna do that. And if you notice, right,
- 3:45Speaker 1: a lot of the
- 3:46Speaker 1: Cinemas here in Singapore, they're leaning towards replaying some of
- 3:50Speaker 1: like the classics that Singapore used to play or maybe
- 3:52Speaker 1: even like classic Asian films.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Honestly, they brought back army days.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you know, I've never watched that. Oh,
- 4:00Speaker 1: you have to. Yeah, I've never watched that one of
- 4:03Speaker 1: the best classic,
- 4:04Speaker 2: right? Singapore army films there is in our box office screenings.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I actually don't know
- 4:09Speaker 1: why I never watched it. I mean, it just, well,
- 4:12Speaker 1: it never showed in the cinemas in the recent years.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And was it on any streaming platform? I, I don't
- 4:19Speaker 1: know actually. Maybe I just, I wasn't paying attention. I'm
- 4:22Speaker 1: not sure.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Netflix,
- 4:24Speaker 2: but I'm YouTube right now, it
- 4:25Speaker 1: might be available.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You'll find it. But
- 4:27Speaker 1: I want to see it in proper resolution lah, like on,
- 4:29Speaker 1: on screen. And then
- 4:30Speaker 2: there's one starring Pierre Peng, Chicken Rice War, if you
- 4:33Speaker 2: remember this.
- 4:34Speaker 1: The name sounds so familiar. Was that not a Channel
- 4:37Speaker 1: 8 series? No, no,
- 4:38Speaker 2: OK.
- 4:41Speaker 1: T Fanta, Fanta, yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Please don't follow me. You, you're gonna do much better
- 4:47Speaker 1: at PSLE.
- 4:48Speaker 2: You know, I was gonna say Chicken Rice War is
- 4:50Speaker 2: a movie. It's like Romeo and Juliet, but, but the
- 4:53Speaker 2: feuding families owned chicken rice stalls. Yeah. Oh,
- 4:56Speaker 1: I see. Oh, how cute. And this is PFO when
- 4:58Speaker 1: he was like really young, I'm assuming. He still looks
- 5:01Speaker 1: the same. He looks, he didn't age. He found the
- 5:04Speaker 1: fountain of youth. This is a vampire. Yeah. So have
- 5:07Speaker 1: you done anything fun over the weekend, Joakim?
- 5:10Speaker 1: I have an announcement to make after you tell me
- 5:12Speaker 1: what you've done. Oh, over the weekend.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Is that something that I'm looking forward to when it
- 5:18Speaker 2: comes to your announcement? What? What? Will someone appear in
- 5:23Speaker 2: 6 months or 9 months' time? What are you talking about?
- 5:26Speaker 1: No, sorry.
- 5:29Speaker 1: As in you thought I was having a kid. What
- 5:32Speaker 1: are you talking about? Who has a kid in 6 months?
- 5:33Speaker 1: 3 months? No,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I wouldn't be dropping this.
- 5:39Speaker 2: OK,
- 5:39Speaker 1: if my parents find out about this on air like that,
- 5:41Speaker 1: they will literally call me right now.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Dude, I'm talking about things that we did over the weekend.
- 5:46Speaker 1: What are you talking about? rubbish, rubbish, this, bro.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I thought my godfather duties came into play already.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Oh, nice assumption.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Well, uh, this, can I just say this on Saturday, right? Yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 2: I was wearing Baju
- 5:59Speaker 2: kurong.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I remember you going for the fitting for that,
- 6:03Speaker 1: complete
- 6:04Speaker 2: with the Soko and all that, right? And I had
- 6:05Speaker 2: an event with National Youth Council. Yes, so I was
- 6:08Speaker 2: over at Marina Bay Sands, and I had like 1
- 6:10Speaker 2: hour and 15 minutes to kill.
- 6:13Speaker 2: So I wanted to have my lunch and I thought, hey,
- 6:15Speaker 2: there's Tin Taifeng here, right? So I went in and
- 6:17Speaker 2: I realized, hey, me and a Soko and the Bajukuron,
- 6:20Speaker 2: they might
- 6:20Speaker 1: not want to, I mean Tin Tai
- 6:23Speaker 2: Feng because it's pork.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I know, I know, I know it might not look well, yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and given the demographic of Marina Bay Sands being mostly tourists, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 2: they see like a guy in a Malay
- 6:33Speaker 1: baju eating Tin Tai Fong. They might take.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Picture.
- 6:37Speaker 2: OK, then I went, Hey, never mind. Go to bread talk. Yes,
- 6:41Speaker 1: pop flo floss
- 6:42Speaker 2: buns. Oh no,
- 6:44Speaker 1: actually, why didn't you just like quickly change and go
- 6:47Speaker 1: in?
- 6:47Speaker 2: I know, but I didn't want to ruin the makeup
- 6:49Speaker 2: and and and the look, you know,
- 6:50Speaker 1: because
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's, it's, you don't have to pull it over your head. What,
- 6:54Speaker 2: it's not like a full
- 6:55Speaker 1: button, it's not a button down, OK.
- 7:00Speaker 1: OK, so tell me what did you end up eating
- 7:01Speaker 1: in the end. Uh,
- 7:03Speaker 2: what did I do?
- 7:04Speaker 1: Tilau also cannot what?
- 7:06Speaker 2: You can't eat anything,
- 7:07Speaker 1: exactly.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So I realized the halal options over at Marina Bay
- 7:10Speaker 2: Sands very little.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So the food court then, yeah, I
- 7:13Speaker 2: went over there.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Oh, come on,
- 7:16Speaker 2: but it's nasi padang is expensive,
- 7:19Speaker 1: man. I know, but it's. You can't expect anything less.
- 7:24Speaker 1: It's different. I went to
- 7:25Speaker 2: the Jason's Deli, OK, and I bought like some bread
- 7:28Speaker 2: buns from Sunshine Bread
- 7:31Speaker 2: and tea.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So basically you went to the supermarket. Yes,
- 7:33Speaker 2: you can
- 7:34Speaker 2: call us right now at 669.
- 7:36Speaker 2: 11987. Let us know how your September holidays went for you. Yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and
- 7:40Speaker 1: we'd love for you to request for a song as well.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Anything that keeps you energized this morning and tell us
- 7:45Speaker 1: who you want to dedicate it to. If I'm
- 7:47Speaker 2: not wrong, I think the primary school kids, a bit
- 7:51Speaker 2: of a start day this week. Is it? They're not
- 7:53Speaker 2: starting today. So today they're back in school, but then tomorrow.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Because the P6s are doing the listening for PSLE, right?
- 8:00Speaker 2: So
- 8:00Speaker 1: some of them may not need to go in. OK. OK, um, well,
- 8:04Speaker 1: correct us if we're wrong, but that's what we think.
- 8:06Speaker 1: 669-11987 is the number to call. Is there a song
- 8:10Speaker 1: to get you going this morning, to get you in
- 8:12Speaker 1: the mood to do well for all your upcoming exams?
- 8:15Speaker 1: Today we're actually getting quite a number of messages this morning.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I think people are.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Sleepy to call in.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I'm sleepy because we're both
- 8:22Speaker 2: sleepy, you know, after the holidays going back. So I
- 8:25Speaker 2: want to say good morning to Joshua from Gan Eng
- 8:28Speaker 2: Seng Primary School. Good morning. We've been to Gan Eng
- 8:31Speaker 2: Seng Secondary, not primary school, but hey, Joshua, you say
- 8:34Speaker 2: it's your PSLE year this year. All the best for
- 8:37Speaker 2: listening Cori and the papers coming up, and you want
- 8:40Speaker 2: to give this song to.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Everybody doing the PSLE.
- 8:43Speaker 1: OK, your request is anything from Cortis, so we're gonna
- 8:46Speaker 1: hit play on this one. Hopefully you enjoy it as well. OK,
- 8:49Speaker 1: so here's the thing, right? Over the weekend, and, and
- 8:51Speaker 1: I was just wondering how to phrase this because I
- 8:53Speaker 1: don't want it to sound like so nasty in the morning.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Just call it as it is. But um, I'm sure
- 8:59Speaker 1: you would have seen the news making its rounds, especially
- 9:03Speaker 1: around the internet and
- 9:04Speaker 1: Um, while I want to say that the comments are split,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I think it's 80% criticizing the organizers at this point
- 9:13Speaker 1: for allowing this to happen, but I'm sure you would
- 9:15Speaker 1: have seen that an athlete in High Rocks in Beijing
- 9:19Speaker 1: allegedly completed the entire race despite having incontinence, and when
- 9:26Speaker 1: I say incontinence, I mean,
- 9:30Speaker 1: The number 2 type. OK, OK, that's all I'm gonna say.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I'll say
- 9:34Speaker 2: the word once and be done with it, diarrhea. Oh,
- 9:37Speaker 1: no, OK, OK, that's it. I didn't want to say that.
- 9:39Speaker 1: That's just I know it's too early for that. I know.
- 9:42Speaker 1: That's why I wanted to leave that out. But
- 9:44Speaker 2: I'm very surprised. So, OK.
- 9:47Speaker 2: The thing is, I've seen it happen at marathons.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I was gonna ask you that. Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 2: I've seen it happen and also um for, for ladies,
- 9:56Speaker 2: the lack of better word, your cycles, some it might
- 9:59Speaker 2: actually happens while you're doing the half marathon or full marathon.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I I've never seen anyone get disqualified if the events
- 10:08Speaker 2: is outdoors, outdoors, but I know of the athletes where
- 10:13Speaker 2: they realize it's happening, they will stop and they will
- 10:15Speaker 2: go and relieve themselves and hopefully there's water to wash
- 10:17Speaker 2: it before they carry on finishing the race outdoors.
- 10:20Speaker 1: But here's the thing because if you
- 10:22Speaker 1: Particular about your timing, like you may not want to stop, right?
- 10:26Speaker 1: And I think this is exactly what this, uh, this
- 10:28Speaker 1: female athlete was thinking because she just didn't want to stop.
- 10:31Speaker 1: But I think the difference with the whole high rocks
- 10:35Speaker 1: setup is that you're actually touching and sitting on all
- 10:38Speaker 1: the equipment.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yes, it's shared equipment. The carpet is shared, it's indoors
- 10:44Speaker 2: and people around you, they can smell you.
- 10:48Speaker 2: They can see everything. I'm very surprised the organizers did
- 10:52Speaker 2: not disqualify her and say, sorry, ma'am, this is, this
- 10:55Speaker 2: is not the way it should be, or please go
- 10:57Speaker 2: and get yourself checked. And also, the thing is, athlete's ego.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I have it too. Like for example, if I'm sick,
- 11:05Speaker 2: but I'm not bedridden, I'll still go and run, you
- 11:07Speaker 2: know what I mean? It's total opposite.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I, I, it's athlete's ego, so.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Uh, I wanna, I wanna sound kind here, I, but
- 11:19Speaker 2: I feel she should
- 11:20Speaker 1: have called it herself. She should have called it herself. So,
- 11:24Speaker 1: so there was a video that, you know, eventually popped
- 11:27Speaker 1: off because of what happened, but this video was very
- 11:31Speaker 1: tastefully done by like a videographer who edited out all the,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you know, the bad parts where it was seen like
- 11:38Speaker 1: dripping down her leg and all that, right? So they,
- 11:40Speaker 1: they angled it as like, oh, a story of endurance.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And you know, overcoming challenges to which that video is
- 11:46Speaker 1: getting slammed quite badly now. I think 80% of the
- 11:50Speaker 1: comments are saying like, why are you glorifying this and
- 11:52Speaker 1: like cutting out the bad parts where we all know
- 11:54Speaker 1: what happened, you know, you shouldn't be encouraging this.
- 11:56Speaker 2: But the athlete came in first
- 11:58Speaker 2: place,
- 11:59Speaker 1: which is also quite amazing lah. How did she do that?
- 12:01Speaker 1: I know,
- 12:01Speaker 2: but we have to be very careful how we glorify
- 12:04Speaker 2: it and how we frame it as well. I know. Again,
- 12:06Speaker 2: organizers should have stepped in to disqualify her and
- 12:09Speaker 2: Even though news reports are saying that oh they sanitize
- 12:13Speaker 2: the place immediately and all that,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but you've already been, people already have been exposed.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yes, exactly. It's a biohazard,
- 12:21Speaker 1: by the way. I know, yeah, well, while I, while
- 12:23Speaker 1: I empathize with her to some extent because I'm sure
- 12:26Speaker 1: it was really uncomfortable and she must have been not
- 12:29Speaker 1: feeling so great, but at the same time, you got
- 12:32Speaker 1: to know when to call it for yourself, I would say.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I mean, look, for me, any minor inconvenience, I'm going home.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You know, if I'm on a run, stomachache, I'm going home.
- 12:44Speaker 2: If you're on a run, tired going home, yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 2: you won't push on. Yeah,
- 12:48Speaker 1: exactly. OK, I won't even start.
- 12:50Speaker 2: No one
- 12:50Speaker 2: needs to worry about you unless it's your ankle and
- 12:54Speaker 2: you're playing paddle again.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I know how to call it.
- 12:57Speaker 2: OK,
- 12:57Speaker 1: well, especially when it comes
- 12:58Speaker 1: to sports.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Not too sure whether there's a bit of a hidden
- 13:02Speaker 2: campaign going on with the BCRS.
- 13:05Speaker 2: The bottles and cans return scheme,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I just saw a new one, a new piece of news.
- 13:09Speaker 2: There is
- 13:09Speaker 2: one very cute one that I want to share with
- 13:12Speaker 2: you about. Take a bow. I think he's 7 years
- 13:16Speaker 2: old only to Mr. Saif Shafat. Let me share with
- 13:21Speaker 2: you what he did in just a while here on
- 13:22Speaker 2: the shock circuit.
- 13:23Speaker 1: What a
- 13:23Speaker 1: cutie pie, honestly, it is wedding season.
- 13:26Speaker 1: again, I just attended one over the weekend. It's actually
- 13:29Speaker 1: uh Jeremy's best friend, so congratulations to the happy couple. Oh,
- 13:32Speaker 1: that's nice. And they've got a part two this coming
- 13:35Speaker 1: weekend as well. So yeah, it's gonna be back to back.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure for the end of year, you get
- 13:41Speaker 2: plenty of 99, 1010, 1111 and 121212.
- 13:45Speaker 1: You're right, you're right, you're right.
- 13:47Speaker 1: That and your sales coming through as well.
- 13:50Speaker 2: But speaking of, uh, earlier where the BCRS machine comes
- 13:54Speaker 2: into play, I don't know whether is there like a
- 13:57Speaker 2: hidden message or campaign that's happening to get people to
- 14:02Speaker 2: be more aware of it because it's being covered in
- 14:04Speaker 2: the news as of late.
- 14:05Speaker 2: And all these stories coming in quite heartwarming lah, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 2: someone doing it for family, and then I want to
- 14:11Speaker 2: bring in the story of 8 year old boy with autism.
- 14:15Speaker 2: His name is Shaif Shafat, if I'm not wrong, and
- 14:19Speaker 2: he has collected over 170 bottles. That means $17 in return.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And then you can see the videos that I think
- 14:28Speaker 2: his mom posted.
- 14:29Speaker 2: On social media where he goes, Mom, so you can
- 14:32Speaker 2: return here. So cute. So he'll go looking for these
- 14:34Speaker 2: bottles and it gives him a sense of purpose. Well
- 14:38Speaker 2: done to you, young Sharif.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I mean, I kind of like that he's channeling his
- 14:41Speaker 1: energy into this, right, than just being like stuck on
- 14:44Speaker 1: a phone or something. Yeah, so
- 14:46Speaker 2: I'm very nice to see, and this guy is smiling
- 14:48Speaker 2: widely for the pictures. So I wonder what he's done
- 14:51Speaker 2: with the money.
- 14:52Speaker 2: He bought himself a new toy. He
- 14:54Speaker 1: should be
- 14:54Speaker 1: the next phase of the entire campaign, I think.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Why not, right?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Like some endorsement or
- 14:58Speaker 1: something.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Why
- 14:59Speaker 1: not?
- 15:00Speaker 2: So again, when it comes to the BCRS, when you
- 15:02Speaker 2: buy your bottled cans and bottled drinks and canned drinks,
- 15:07Speaker 2: make sure it has the logo before you go and
- 15:09Speaker 2: return it at the machine where it either goes into
- 15:12Speaker 2: your EasyLink card or your DBS Pay now.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Fantastic way to earn a little bit of pocket money,
- 15:18Speaker 1: especially for him. What a cutie pie. So plenty of
- 15:22Speaker 1: very interesting news coming through over the weekend that we
- 15:24Speaker 1: wanted to address today.
- 15:25Speaker 2: This one going out to all the customers and people
- 15:28Speaker 2: who used to work there. I think we all read
- 15:31Speaker 2: about it, the sudden closure of true fitness and true yoga.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Honestly, I was, I was quite shocked because they have
- 15:38Speaker 1: been around for a very long time.
- 15:40Speaker 1: And they're quite a reputable like brand. Like you would
- 15:43Speaker 1: see them at almost every major mall, right?
- 15:45Speaker 2: Not the first time we encounter a gym like this
- 15:48Speaker 2: suddenly closing down and shutting all its stores and outlets, yeah,
- 15:52Speaker 2: and it's really sad because these things, right, it makes
- 15:55Speaker 2: you wonder because up till maybe say the last day
- 15:57Speaker 2: of operations, such places could still be taking payments.
- 16:03Speaker 1: They could be signs, yeah, yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 2: yeah. Where's the money gone?
- 16:06Speaker 1: And
- 16:06Speaker 2: they had a huge meeting with their liquidators at the
- 16:09Speaker 2: main office, and I really hope the staff gets fairly
- 16:12Speaker 2: compensated or at least placed at a new gym or
- 16:15Speaker 2: a boutique gym here in Singapore for more
- 16:17Speaker 2: work.
- 16:18Speaker 1: So here's my question, right, because the people who are
- 16:20Speaker 1: on are the ones selling the packages or you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: getting customers. What if they were kept in the dark.
- 16:26Speaker 1: All this stuff back and it sounded like it
- 16:29Speaker 2: because when the press interviewed a few of the staff
- 16:33Speaker 2: members after their meeting over at the main branch,
- 16:37Speaker 1: they had
- 16:37Speaker 1: no idea
- 16:38Speaker 2: they
- 16:38Speaker 2: said they actually had like a director's meeting a few
- 16:40Speaker 2: months ago. They asked, are there any potential closures or what?
- 16:44Speaker 2: They said no, no, we are OK, no closures,
- 16:46Speaker 1: paraphrasing
- 16:47Speaker 2: here.
- 16:48Speaker 1: That's the, that's the scary part because you always look
- 16:51Speaker 1: at the brand name first, right? You're like, oh, if
- 16:53Speaker 1: this is something I've seen for like what, over 10 years,
- 16:56Speaker 1: it's been, I'm not sure how long they've been here,
- 16:57Speaker 1: but safe to say they're, they're a reputable brand, you
- 17:01Speaker 1: wouldn't really think twice. In fact, you might trust them more.
- 17:04Speaker 2: That's
- 17:04Speaker 2: on the sides, wow.
- 17:09Speaker 1: What's going to happen
- 17:09Speaker 2: that you might have wasted on your packages which is
- 17:14Speaker 2: all gone they
- 17:15Speaker 1: able to claim it, I mean there's no such thing
- 17:17Speaker 1: as like package insurance.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I mean, look, anything is possible, but I know there's
- 17:24Speaker 1: no such thing. It's just how they're gonna claim their
- 17:26Speaker 1: money back? Like what if they just paid 20 for
- 17:28Speaker 1: like a fitness package? So
- 17:29Speaker 2: maybe the wrong word to use. It's more forfeited. OK.
- 17:33Speaker 2: So when we come back, I want to find out, Sonia,
- 17:36Speaker 2: are you the package kind of person or are you
- 17:38Speaker 2: a pay per use
- 17:39Speaker 1: la OK, OK, so as you know, um, I think
- 17:44Speaker 1: one piece of news that also dominated a lot.
- 17:46Speaker 1: a lot of, uh, group chats or conversations over the weekends.
- 17:50Speaker 1: We're all quite shocked that this particular chain shut down
- 17:53Speaker 1: very suddenly.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I'm paying very close attention to the reasons behind it. Yeah.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Hopefully the press will give us more today. Our friends
- 18:02Speaker 2: at True Fitness and True Yoga, everything all gone. Yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and they've been around for so long, right? So they have.
- 18:08Speaker 1: If I'm not wrong, I did try like a trial.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Back then when I was interested in yoga, um, and
- 18:14Speaker 1: before I discovered Pilates, I did try um a class
- 18:18Speaker 1: there before years ago.
- 18:19Speaker 2: So apparently in the press, or rather our friends over
- 18:22Speaker 2: at Mothership, they did a report on how there was
- 18:25Speaker 2: a dad who paid a lifetime VIP founder membership for
- 18:31Speaker 2: himself and two of his daughters, $21,000.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Wow, wow.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And he barely got to use it, I'm
- 18:38Speaker 1: assuming.
- 18:38Speaker 2: So yeah, and then people are saying that, oh yeah,
- 18:40Speaker 2: I joined in 2017. I spent about $10,000 on the
- 18:44Speaker 2: lifetime VIP membership in 2020, gone. I mean, makes you
- 18:50Speaker 2: wonder where all the money has gone to.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it also makes me think about how
- 18:54Speaker 1: dangerous it is to commit to like what we call
- 18:57Speaker 1: a label a lifelong membership.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And does that apply to like if you go overseas,
- 19:04Speaker 1: can you use their outlets overseas as well? Do they
- 19:06Speaker 1: have I don't know actually. I think they must have, right?
- 19:09Speaker 1: Let me check. OK,
- 19:11Speaker 2: so while you check, I just want to share that
- 19:14Speaker 2: I'm the kind of person that I really, really dislike
- 19:18Speaker 2: paying for packages. I, I'd rather buy a pay per
- 19:21Speaker 2: use program or
- 19:23Speaker 2: Maybe sometimes a 5 or a 10 pack package. Nothing
- 19:28Speaker 2: beyond that because you never know whether the place might
- 19:30Speaker 2: shuttle all of a sudden or the owners might cord
- 19:34Speaker 2: with the money and go missing and you don't get
- 19:36Speaker 2: the service that you paid for.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I mean, I think they are, they exist in Asia. Asia,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I don't know whether other countries.
- 19:48Speaker 1: might have it in Asia. So
- 19:49Speaker 2: I
- 19:49Speaker 2: guess the only class that I'm on the pack if
- 19:53Speaker 2: you want to call it that. Oh
- 19:57Speaker 1: yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:57Speaker 2: So that you can use it here in Singapore at
- 19:59Speaker 2: any outlet or if you go overseas as well, the
- 20:02Speaker 2: membership that you have, it gains you entry. Yeah,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and now that we know the owner, um, not to worry,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I can just text him. I'm kidding, I'm kidding.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Uh, but I think that's not so bad because you didn't,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I mean, they didn't pressure you to subscribe to like
- 20:18Speaker 1: a lifetime membership
- 20:20Speaker 1: or something.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yeah, they won't make the prices for you. So hello
- 20:26Speaker 2: Miss Nail package and car wash.
- 20:28Speaker 1: No, my car was no more already. OK, OK, no more.
- 20:33Speaker 2: What other packages are you on
- 20:33Speaker 2: now?
- 20:34Speaker 1: Um, my nail package is coming to an end very soon.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So this is the time where I get extra scared
- 20:40Speaker 1: to go there because they will start to plant the
- 20:43Speaker 1: idea in your head and you can't say
- 20:44Speaker 2: no and I
- 20:45Speaker 1: can't say no. OK,
- 20:45Speaker 2: let's practice. OK. OK. I'm, I'm your beautician, is it,
- 20:48Speaker 2: or your nail artist?
- 20:50Speaker 1: OK,
- 20:51Speaker 2: yes, nail technician tech, OK, there you go. Sonia, you
- 20:55Speaker 2: got more.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Wait,
- 20:58Speaker 2: hey, but girl, you got 2 more packages left, and now,
- 21:01Speaker 2: now got discount. No, the 1010 sales coming very soon
- 21:05Speaker 1: toss.
- 21:07Speaker 2: The moment you say or how much you're in trouble,
- 21:11Speaker 1: cannot. No, but I think they found my weakness already.
- 21:14Speaker 1: So the lady will always say like, ah, you know, um, in,
- 21:18Speaker 1: in English, OK, but she says it in Mandarin, but
- 21:20Speaker 1: she said, you know, so and so this lady that
- 21:22Speaker 1: always does your news, she, um, she purposely put this
- 21:25Speaker 1: price just for you and me, just for you, it's
- 21:29Speaker 1: special for you and me. Then I, you know, so
- 21:31Speaker 1: then when I hear that, I'm like, yeah, she's so sweet, how.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Sons, you are somebody I know to be headstrong and
- 21:39Speaker 2: very firm.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Yes I am. Yes, yes, but
- 21:42Speaker 2: I realize you're very easy.
- 21:44Speaker 1: No, no, but I just feel bad. I just, I
- 21:46Speaker 1: just feel bad for this. I mean this lady trying
- 21:49Speaker 1: to sell her. OK,
- 21:50Speaker 2: Sonia, I've been your friend.
- 21:52Speaker 2: 16 years I don't
- 21:53Speaker 1: feel bad for you. No, no, no,
- 21:54Speaker 2: this is different. How about you give me a package
- 21:56Speaker 2: every month, this one is different.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So you charge for our friendship subscription, is it?
- 22:03Speaker 2: It's OK, you know.
- 22:04Speaker 1: You should pay me for being your friend. Hello.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Excuse me.
- 22:10Speaker 2: 669-11987 or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987. By the way,
- 22:17Speaker 2: if you do like your answer, what's coming your way? Oh,
- 22:19Speaker 2: you're getting a bargain. A nice dining experience, all thanks
- 22:23Speaker 2: to Wuhuu Korean Dining Restaurant. Oh
- 22:25Speaker 1: yes, a new place.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Very nice.
- 22:28Speaker 2: It's worth $100 and that place looks very Instagram or
- 22:31Speaker 2: TikTok aesthetics and photos,
- 22:35Speaker 1: they're quite newly opened in the Robertson Key area as well.
- 22:37Speaker 1: So something to treat yourself to. Give us a call
- 22:40Speaker 1: 669-11987 or drop us a message 90050987.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Um, after, on the back of all this that you've
- 22:48Speaker 1: heard about the True Fitness group shutting down and people
- 22:52Speaker 1: really just losing out on a lot of packages, right?
- 22:54Speaker 1: And money as well that's lost right now, are you
- 22:57Speaker 1: the kind that will also buy a package or will
- 22:59Speaker 1: you insist on buying a la carte prices? Be it facials,
- 23:03Speaker 1: be it, I don't know, your car wash stuff or
- 23:06Speaker 1: what else do men do?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gym membership, fitness related stuff. Yeah, let us
- 23:13Speaker 1: know today. On the back of what has happened with
- 23:15Speaker 1: True fitness and true yoga.
- 23:17Speaker 1: We wanted to ask you, what are your buying habits
- 23:19Speaker 1: like when it comes to fitness packages or beauty packages,
- 23:23Speaker 1: or are you the kind that will insist on buying
- 23:25Speaker 1: a la carte? Now, here's the catch, OK. Obviously, when
- 23:30Speaker 1: you buy a package, when you divide it by X
- 23:33Speaker 1: amount of sessions, it's gonna be way cheaper. That's the problem,
- 23:37Speaker 1: you know. So we wanted to find out what your
- 23:39Speaker 1: habits are like. Let's kick it off with some messages
- 23:41Speaker 1: this morning.
- 23:41Speaker 2: One coming
- 23:42Speaker 2: in from P who says, hey guys.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I'm definitely 100% a la carte. I could never buy
- 23:48Speaker 2: lifelong packages because I always change my mind on which
- 23:52Speaker 2: gym I want to go to. This one time I
- 23:54Speaker 2: told the gym receptionist, I want to cancel membership, right?
- 23:57Speaker 2: Then he was like, No, cannot. We are the top
- 23:59Speaker 2: #1 gym in Hougang, and he would not let me
- 24:02Speaker 2: leave.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Oh, that's quite scary. I wouldn't know what to do.
- 24:05Speaker 1: That's the thing. How do you, do you just walk
- 24:07Speaker 1: off or just say no? But if
- 24:09Speaker 2: you cancel your membership, will you get?
- 24:11Speaker 2: A portion of your money back, you have to really
- 24:15Speaker 2: read the T and C's. Yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 1: sure. OK, let me, let me add on to this story. OK.
- 24:20Speaker 1: So this is not related to fitness or anything, um,
- 24:24Speaker 1: but OK, I'm I'm not gonna say what the product
- 24:26Speaker 1: is on air because if I do, I think it
- 24:28Speaker 1: might be a bit obvious. So I, I felt bad
- 24:32Speaker 1: because this lady whom I know approached me to purchase
- 24:36Speaker 1: this subscription package, OK.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Subscription and she is not, she wasn't going through the
- 24:42Speaker 1: best time of her life lah. So I decided like, OK,
- 24:44Speaker 1: you know what, I just want to support you for
- 24:45Speaker 1: a bit, OK? Um, but of course, she's tied to
- 24:48Speaker 1: like a larger company out there. So I, I subscribed
- 24:51Speaker 1: to this thing that she was selling, and I just said, OK,
- 24:55Speaker 1: to myself, I put a reminder like after, say, the
- 24:58Speaker 1: first month or 1st 2 months, if it's not my vibe,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I'm going to cancel it, OK.
- 25:02Speaker 1: So true enough, I was like, not my vibe. I
- 25:04Speaker 1: decided to cancel it. But they made it so difficult
- 25:07Speaker 1: to cancel, Joakim. I'm telling you, like, it's so difficult
- 25:11Speaker 1: until to the point where I had to send them
- 25:12Speaker 1: like an angry email to show them receipts that I
- 25:16Speaker 1: already stated that I don't want to continue. It's
- 25:18Speaker 2: easy
- 25:18Speaker 2: to get in, but they make it
- 25:20Speaker 1: so difficult. Yeah. OK, uh, one message before we, we
- 25:24Speaker 1: take a short break here. Say hi and good morning
- 25:27Speaker 1: to Amir. Good morning guys. That's the thing, right?
- 25:31Speaker 1: The full package price, if you count per session cost,
- 25:33Speaker 1: is going to be much cheaper than if you pay
- 25:36Speaker 1: just a quarter or half package. I paid for a
- 25:39Speaker 1: full PT package before and I did so only because
- 25:43Speaker 1: it's so much cheaper per session.
- 25:45Speaker 1: But I also don't think they're gonna close anytime soon,
- 25:49Speaker 1: but I hope I'm not being complacent.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Depending on which gym this is, uh,
- 25:53Speaker 1: it's
- 25:53Speaker 1: a big, but I'm not gonna say which one. If
- 25:55Speaker 1: it's
- 25:55Speaker 2: the one I'm thinking of where it's everywhere here in Singapore,
- 25:59Speaker 2: then yes, you're in good hands for the next maybe
- 26:01Speaker 2: 4 or 5
- 26:01Speaker 2: years.
- 26:02Speaker 1: But do you think that's what the people who subscribe
- 26:04Speaker 1: to True, oh, we're in good hands because they've been
- 26:07Speaker 1: here for so long.
- 26:08Speaker 2: OK la,
- 26:09Speaker 1: you know what I mean?
- 26:10Speaker 2: It's, it's good to see both sides of the coin.
- 26:12Speaker 1: It can be quite scary, yeah. OK, we're gonna take
- 26:14Speaker 1: a short break. When we come back, more of your stories.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Time for your calls as well. 669-11987. The question is,
- 26:21Speaker 1: would you rather buy a package or simply go a
- 26:24Speaker 1: la carte? Um, lots of your messages coming through right now.
- 26:27Speaker 1: We're talking about whether or not you opt for buying
- 26:29Speaker 1: a package or a la carte.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Want to say good morning to TG on WhatsApp. Hey guys,
- 26:35Speaker 2: I'm definitely an a la carte person.
- 26:37Speaker 2: A few years ago, I almost signed up for a
- 26:39Speaker 2: year-long gym package because the monthly rate looked more expensive,
- 26:44Speaker 2: but thankfully, I decided to pay month by month. My
- 26:47Speaker 2: friend went for the cheaper year-long package and ended up
- 26:50Speaker 2: paying hundreds upfront. After a while,
- 26:53Speaker 2: He stopped going because of work and family commitments. So
- 26:56Speaker 2: not only did he lose motivation, but he also had
- 26:59Speaker 2: to deal with the worry of whether he could get
- 27:01Speaker 2: his money back. For me, paying a little more each
- 27:04Speaker 2: month is worth it. I guess it is good to
- 27:06Speaker 2: be cautious nowadays as well, at least if my
- 27:09Speaker 2: Gym closes down. I only lose one month's payment instead
- 27:12Speaker 2: of an entire year's worth of membership fees. Sometimes the
- 27:16Speaker 2: cheapest deal isn't really the best deal.
- 27:19Speaker 1: You're so right. Very,
- 27:20Speaker 2: very
- 27:21Speaker 1: right. Yeah, well. Thank you so much for that, very, uh, that,
- 27:25Speaker 1: that
- 27:26Speaker 1: breakdown.
- 27:26Speaker 2: And one more coming in from Carol where I'm very
- 27:28Speaker 2: sure this is your weakness as well, Sonia. What? Hey,
- 27:31Speaker 2: Sonia and Joakim, the staff, all they have to just
- 27:34Speaker 2: say is Xiao Mei, and that's it.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I'm it.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Hey, come on, I'm a bit better than that lah, Joe.
- 27:40Speaker 1: When she gives me the I did this specially for you,
- 27:44Speaker 1: that whole speech, then that's it lah for me.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Xiao Mei took a
- 27:48Speaker 2: package's
- 27:51Speaker 1: just for you only for you then I'm like wow.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I feel so special.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Then I feel so bad. Then I just accept.
- 27:59Speaker 2: You, you know, this kind of lion and who
- 28:06Speaker 1: who does a great job. OK, so here's the thing, I,
- 28:08Speaker 1: I did learn the hard way with one particular one
- 28:11Speaker 1: where I do really like going to this place for facials, OK?
- 28:15Speaker 1: And um the thing is I don't go very often.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Like I think I literally go like 2 or 3
- 28:19Speaker 1: times a year. I'm very bad with keeping up with
- 28:21Speaker 1: all these things.
- 28:22Speaker 1: So there was once I went and this was like
- 28:25Speaker 1: towards the end of the year, OK, and they said, oh,
- 28:28Speaker 1: we have this very special deal where if you pay for,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I don't know, like 2 sessions, we comp you one,
- 28:35Speaker 1: so you get an additional 1. But the catch is
- 28:37Speaker 1: that you have to finish using it, using it within
- 28:40Speaker 1: this year. I said, oh, OK, sounds like a good deal,
- 28:43Speaker 1: you know, get one free, free facial. Guess what?
- 28:46Speaker 1: The deadline came and went. I didn't even realize.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Thank you for your donation and service. Yeah,
- 28:51Speaker 1: I went back and I thought I could, you know,
- 28:53Speaker 1: talk them into it. I'm like, Hey, so sorry. I
- 28:55Speaker 1: didn't realize. But they say, Oh sorry, expired already. Then
- 28:58Speaker 1: I'm like,
- 29:01Speaker 2: Yeah, they are not your friends.
- 29:01Speaker 1: They knew this was going to
- 29:02Speaker 2: happen. And for me, nothing to do with packages, right?
- 29:05Speaker 2: But whenever I walk past, OK, back when I was
- 29:08Speaker 2: in Nafa over at Fortune Center, there's this.
- 29:10Speaker 2: It's a very nice Muslim, uh, Muslim eatery called Sham Corner. OK,
- 29:15Speaker 2: and sometimes I'll tell myself, OK, today no sham corner
- 29:18Speaker 2: because the food is very good but very sinful. OK. Alright.
- 29:21Speaker 2: The moment the machik sees
- 29:23Speaker 2: me,
- 29:23Speaker 1: say, um, handsome boy, right?
- 29:25Speaker 2: No, no, mak day.
- 29:27Speaker 2: OK, I'm like, OK, lah. OK lah, go in and
- 29:28Speaker 2: go and buy food. So you
- 29:30Speaker 1: don't
- 29:30Speaker 1: need much convincing also, la, in other words, the machi
- 29:32Speaker 2: poor thing la,
- 29:34Speaker 1: you.
- 29:36Speaker 1: You see what I mean? So you say Mapo thing, OK,
- 29:39Speaker 1: then if I feel bad, then it's not
- 29:41Speaker 2: OK. Yeah, because for me it's once in a blue
- 29:43Speaker 2: moon for you it's every day.
- 29:44Speaker 1: No, it's not every day. No, it's not. It's like
- 29:47Speaker 1: just several times a year.
- 29:50Speaker 1: A very text-heavy one here this morning. People are sending
- 29:53Speaker 1: in essays at this point about whether or not you
- 29:56Speaker 1: would usually opt to buy the cheaper option, which is
- 29:59Speaker 1: sometimes the package, because when you break it down and
- 30:01Speaker 1: you know you go math and stuff, and whatever it
- 30:04Speaker 1: is that you do nowadays.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Each session is likely to be cheaper than if you
- 30:09Speaker 1: purchase it a la carte.
- 30:14Speaker 2: let's say it's one of those dodgy nail salon parlors
- 30:18Speaker 2: or massage or anything
- 30:22Speaker 2: You just know something isn't right. They're taking advantage of
- 30:25Speaker 2: the gray area. They might close down in 3 or
- 30:28Speaker 2: 4 months. OK,
- 30:29Speaker 1: but
- 30:29Speaker 1: to be fair, like in this case for fitness and yoga,
- 30:32Speaker 1: they didn't come across dodgy. Like no one would have
- 30:35Speaker 1: expected this.
- 30:36Speaker 2: So did any other gym that has such a big following,
- 30:39Speaker 1: right?
- 30:40Speaker 2: I want to say good morning to Chong on WhatsApp.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Hey guys, I generally don't go for packages. That's because
- 30:46Speaker 2: I use it seldomly. That's because I seldom.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Need a service long term. However, I won't totally boycott
- 30:54Speaker 2: it if the price is right. The risk is acceptable,
- 30:58Speaker 2: and I need the service. Upon assessing the pros and cons,
- 31:01Speaker 2: if it's beneficial, why not? One coming in from Bob,
- 31:05Speaker 2: and I think maybe this could be an education for us.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Morning guys. When you are encouraged to sign a 24
- 31:10Speaker 2: month package with interest fee installment with your credit card,
- 31:15Speaker 2: upon closing down, you are still liable for your credit
- 31:18Speaker 2: card installment.
- 31:20Speaker 1: 00, because now you owe the credit card company.
- 31:24Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, so it basically becomes
- 31:27Speaker 1: a credit card bill. That's what she means, right? scary.
- 31:31Speaker 1: This is very scary. I mean, that one, unfortunately we
- 31:36Speaker 1: have to take responsibility for it, I guess unless you,
- 31:38Speaker 1: I don't know whether the bank can help you with that.
- 31:40Speaker 2: One more. One more coming in from Cheryl. Morning, so.
- 31:44Speaker 2: I would choose a la carte, but usually those beauty
- 31:46Speaker 2: parlors wouldn't take no for an answer. I know I've
- 31:50Speaker 2: resorted to leaving my credit cards at home. We need
- 31:53Speaker 2: A strong heart to enter these places for our beauty treatments,
- 31:57Speaker 1: dude. I'm, I'm just gonna put it out here, OK.
- 31:59Speaker 1: I have tried the, oh, I didn't bring my credit
- 32:00Speaker 1: card thing before and like, oh, my Apple Pay isn't working.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I've tried that, OK.
- 32:04Speaker 2: They have QR code for you.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Now I got QR code also, OK. Then what am
- 32:07Speaker 1: I going to say? Oh, my phone broke down. Sorry,
- 32:09Speaker 2: never, never mind, ma'am. Just scan
- 32:11Speaker 2: here. Oh,
- 32:12Speaker 1: never mind. You just sign first, then you transfer us
- 32:14Speaker 1: later lah. Well, Gigi, man, I tell you, honestly, I
- 32:16Speaker 1: don't know what to do sometimes. Should I start a
- 32:18Speaker 1: course of like how to say no or something?
- 32:21Speaker 2: You start
- 32:22Speaker 1: a course like a support group. You join.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Start a course a scam.
- 32:28Speaker 1: 987. Sonia and Joakim here with you and um thank
- 32:32Speaker 1: you so much for all your messages and your calls
- 32:34Speaker 1: really making us chuckle this morning and also reflect on
- 32:38Speaker 1: our habits and ourselves.
- 32:42Speaker 2: When you say our,
- 32:43Speaker 2: you mean you, right?
- 32:46Speaker 2: Because again, I can openly say the only package I
- 32:49Speaker 2: have now or at least like a 50 pack or
- 32:51Speaker 2: a 20 pack classes bath,
- 32:56Speaker 1: yeah, I only have the nails one that's about it.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Are you sure?
- 32:59Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Can I verify?
- 33:02Speaker 1: I don't even know how to verify for myself.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Sometimes I'm
- 33:05Speaker 2: lost. OK, so next time for your own draws or
- 33:08Speaker 2: your reunion draws for Toto, right, OK, if you and
- 33:12Speaker 2: your office colleagues or maybe even friends saying, hey, come, come, come,
- 33:16Speaker 2: we all pool money, we split if we win. OK,
- 33:20Speaker 2: better make sure,
- 33:21Speaker 1: OK, can I just check if we win, meaning.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Like we all paid money for like one ticket or
- 33:27Speaker 1: we all bought tickets and if anyone in the group wins,
- 33:31Speaker 1: we split.
- 33:31Speaker 2: It's like how we do it. For example, I say
- 33:33Speaker 2: give me two
- 33:34Speaker 2: numbers,
- 33:34Speaker 1: we contribute the numbers. OK, OK. And then
- 33:37Speaker 2: if our ticket wins, we'll split the winnings evenly 55, right?
- 33:40Speaker 2: You better make sure you do it with the person
- 33:42Speaker 2: who won't run away.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Ticket. Oh no, this happened. I want
- 33:45Speaker 2: a
- 33:45Speaker 2: ticket to Hong Kong right now where a 36-year-old man
- 33:48Speaker 2: has been arrested. OK. So him, him and 14 colleagues
- 33:54Speaker 2: came together to say, hey, let's buy a lottery ticket,
- 33:58Speaker 2: and we split the winnings evenly if our ticket hits.
- 34:01Speaker 2: True enough, they won Hong Kong $30 million which is
- 34:07Speaker 2: $4.84 million Singapore dollars.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 34:11Speaker 2: He refused to split it.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Is it because he held on to the
- 34:14Speaker 1: ticket?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Yeah, he said, Hey, by the way, I think I
- 34:17Speaker 2: should get the bigger share because I bought the ticket
- 34:20Speaker 2: and the tickets in my hands. OK, so there was
- 34:22Speaker 2: a back and forth. Hey, what's this? Hello, we split evenly,
- 34:26Speaker 2: you know, back and forth. They couldn't come to an agreement.
- 34:29Speaker 2: The police were called in, arrested him.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Oh
- 34:31Speaker 1: my God, and they had it in black and white
- 34:32Speaker 1: that they agreed to split.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Perhaps maybe on a WhatsApp
- 34:37Speaker 1: because here's the thing, what if we did it verbally,
- 34:39Speaker 1: like we verbally agreed.
- 34:41Speaker 1: You know, in person, but we didn't put it on text,
- 34:44Speaker 1: then you know, you're in
- 34:45Speaker 1: trouble.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I mean, if you have multiple witnesses that saw the
- 34:48Speaker 2: agreement or you do the agreement, I'm sure that it
- 34:50Speaker 2: can stand.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I don't know, man. OK, I don't know.
- 34:53Speaker 2: So apparently police have confirmed that he is, he has
- 34:57Speaker 2: been arrested on suspicion of theft.
- 35:00Speaker 1: So this just means what, like if he agrees to
- 35:04Speaker 1: pay them their rightful share, he'll be released, maybe they
- 35:06Speaker 1: can drop the charges or what the charges.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Wow, but this one friendship gone, you know, I know
- 35:10Speaker 1: it's gone. I think he has to leave the office
- 35:12Speaker 1: or find another job. Like, how do you go to
- 35:14Speaker 1: work again with these
- 35:15Speaker 1: people?
- 35:17Speaker 2: If he made the wrong people angry, he might have
- 35:19Speaker 2: to leave Hong Kong. Oh
- 35:20Speaker 1: yeah,
- 35:21Speaker 1: entirely, yeah, yeah. So I want to give a big
- 35:24Speaker 1: shout out to our friends over at Dyson.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Uh, I think both Joakim and I have had experience
- 35:29Speaker 1: working with them. Oh, the toothbrush. Yes, yes, the camera jet,
- 35:34Speaker 2: the one that can
- 35:34Speaker 2: spray the water and show me the insides of my teeth.
- 35:37Speaker 2: By the
- 35:37Speaker 1: way, it's not water, it's their own formulation. Oh really?
- 35:40Speaker 1: So it's like somewhat like a mouthwash, but it's formulated
- 35:43Speaker 1: for to keep your dental hygiene on, on point. dentists
- 35:46Speaker 1: are king. But yeah, um, actually I, I saw a
- 35:49Speaker 1: couple of dentists that were there to come check it
- 35:51Speaker 1: out on the.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Uh, so, anyway, TLDRI went there and the irony is
- 35:56Speaker 1: that while they're launching that and many other amazing products
- 35:59Speaker 1: in their next generation of um of Dyson, right? They've
- 36:03Speaker 1: got so many new innovations for you to check out
- 36:05Speaker 1: and I think you can still go over there at Ion. Um,
- 36:08Speaker 1: it's at just outside Muji area, you will see that
- 36:11Speaker 1: open space. They've got a whole setup there. But in
- 36:13Speaker 1: order to get there, I walked past Cinnabon.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Which is the last Cinnabon in Singapore, and they're officially
- 36:20Speaker 1: closing very soon, right? I couldn't. I tried to and
- 36:25Speaker 1: um we have a mutual friend, Nicole, she wanted to
- 36:27Speaker 1: get also. So after we were wrapping up our work, right,
- 36:31Speaker 1: she said, OK, I'm gonna go see cinema. I'm gonna
- 36:33Speaker 1: go see the queue because when we walked in, the
- 36:35Speaker 1: queue was, it was snaking. Yeah, it was snaking. So
- 36:38Speaker 1: she said, OK, I'm gonna go now, hopefully it died down.
- 36:41Speaker 1: She went there, she came back very fast. She said, Oh,
- 36:43Speaker 1: sold out already.
- 36:45Speaker 1: There's nothing left in the shelves. Nothing.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I mean, they're not going down without a fight. So
- 36:50Speaker 2: congrats to Cindy as well. Thank you for a few
- 36:52Speaker 2: years here in Singapore. Hopefully, maybe this isn't goodbye, just
- 36:56Speaker 2: a short
- 36:56Speaker 2: farewell.
- 36:57Speaker 1: It
- 36:57Speaker 2: could
- 36:57Speaker 1: be the case where, you know, some brands have exited
- 37:01Speaker 1: and made their return somehow, right? I mean, look at, uh,
- 37:05Speaker 1: what was it A&W, they disappeared.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Long time ago from Singapore, but they made their return. Oh,
- 37:09Speaker 2: what's that cake store? Lady Lady.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Oh, that one was, yeah, they disappeared for a short
- 37:14Speaker 1: while and came back.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I was gonna say, are we fast approaching the moment
- 37:18Speaker 2: where Dyson themselves invent a Dyson phone?
- 37:22Speaker 1: You know, honestly, I'm, I wouldn't be surprised if they
- 37:24Speaker 1: patented a lot of things already or copyrighted quite a
- 37:27Speaker 1: number of stuff.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I mean, look, if Dyson invents a television screen.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I might check it out, you
- 37:32Speaker 1: know. That cools you down at the same time, or
- 37:35Speaker 1: what does it do?
- 37:36Speaker 2: It's an air purifier out at the same time a
- 37:37Speaker 2: TV screen.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Well, that one is gonna be $10,000 or something, right?
- 37:41Speaker 1: I don't know how much it'll be, but you're not wrong. Yeah, anyway, um,
- 37:44Speaker 1: lots of love to our friends at Dyson if you
- 37:46Speaker 1: want to check out.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Their latest generation of devices and many other innovations, it's
- 37:51Speaker 1: over at Ion. Coming up in just a few minutes. Um,
- 37:54Speaker 1: as you know, we've always said this about this particular
- 37:58Speaker 1: man here in Singapore who has been very well loved
- 38:01Speaker 1: over the years, especially over COVID time.
- 38:03Speaker 1: The Sheng Siong, CEO, right? You know, you know, he's
- 38:07Speaker 1: very well loved and in a time or even in
- 38:10Speaker 1: times where people of his position and of his status
- 38:15Speaker 1: and who have his kind of wealth often
- 38:18Speaker 1: They are met with a lot of like negative comments
- 38:20Speaker 1: on social media. I will say for this man, it's
- 38:23Speaker 1: almost like 99.9% of people just love him.
- 38:27Speaker 2: He doubled down on caring for his staff alongside the
- 38:29Speaker 2: Teo Heng chairman as well.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Yes, and even when it was revealed how much he
- 38:33Speaker 1: was earning.
- 38:34Speaker 1: SEO and how, you know, his take-home pay and all that,
- 38:37Speaker 1: people weren't even mad about it. They were like, you
- 38:39Speaker 1: know what, this guy deserves it. I'm going to share
- 38:42Speaker 1: a very personal story um about him and his family
- 38:45Speaker 1: in just a little bit, and this just shows how
- 38:48Speaker 1: well-loved he is to the point where
- 38:51Speaker 1: Uh, members of the public and his staff came together
- 38:53Speaker 1: for this. All the details coming up next. Like I
- 38:56Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, if there's one guy that is just so
- 39:00Speaker 1: universally well loved by all Singaporeans, it is the CEO
- 39:04Speaker 1: of Sheng
- 39:04Speaker 2: Siong. Oh, Yusuf.
- 39:06Speaker 1: I'm so sorry.
- 39:08Speaker 2: I'm just kidding.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I mean, that's still around right now is what I mean. OK. Um,
- 39:14Speaker 1: so as you know, like he's built quite a massive
- 39:17Speaker 1: community out there, right, and his staff as well love
- 39:20Speaker 1: him very much, but on top of that,
- 39:23Speaker 1: Um, he's been quite public with his mom, and she's
- 39:26Speaker 1: affectionately known as Sheng Siong Ama.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Yeah, the, the one piece of news about this that
- 39:32Speaker 2: really caught me by surprise was apparently his mom was
- 39:35Speaker 2: kidnapped before. Yeah,
- 39:37Speaker 1: and it wasn't that long ago, you know, I think.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I think it was like 2014 or something. She was,
- 39:41Speaker 1: she was kidnapped. Yeah. Anyway, um, unfortunately, he's had to
- 39:45Speaker 1: say goodbye to her and she's, you know, lived to
- 39:48Speaker 1: the ripe old age of about 91 years old already
- 39:51Speaker 1: and about 500 members of the public.
- 39:55Speaker 1: And Sheng Siong staff braved the rain for her final
- 39:59Speaker 1: send-off for Sheng Siong Ama. Honestly, this was her final
- 40:03Speaker 1: journey at the age of 91, and so many hundreds
- 40:07Speaker 1: of people lined up to just join the procession and wait,
- 40:10Speaker 1: you know.
- 40:10Speaker 2: In
- 40:10Speaker 2: a very bittersweet tongue in cheek context, I'm very sure
- 40:13Speaker 2: the love for Sheng's armor is,
- 40:15Speaker 1: I
- 40:17Speaker 1: know I know I know.
- 40:19Speaker 1: They, they really lined up for, I think it stretched
- 40:23Speaker 1: for nearly 300 m or more actually, and um, and
- 40:27Speaker 1: they carried on the procession all the way. I think
- 40:29Speaker 1: an estimated total of about 3000 to 4000 people in
- 40:33Speaker 1: total attended the wake, and this includes members of the
- 40:36Speaker 1: public as well. So, I believe more than 3000 condolence
- 40:40Speaker 1: wreaths were reportedly sent to the wake. Can you imagine that?
- 40:43Speaker 2: At this point, right, you can safely guarantee that this
- 40:46Speaker 2: man is a beloved leader in the Sheng Seong community.
- 40:49Speaker 2: So thank you very much to the good people of
- 40:51Speaker 2: Sheng Seong. Yeah,
- 40:52Speaker 1: you know, not just that, I think people react like that.
- 40:59Speaker 1: So this is a great example. Our condolences to the family.
- 41:03Speaker 1: And um it's such a shame because I would have
- 41:05Speaker 1: loved to open up phone lines for this.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Um, but over the weekends, you know, Joakim, you and
- 41:11Speaker 1: I have co-hosted many things together, many, many shows together.
- 41:15Speaker 1: We've also seen each other host before individually. Um, have
- 41:20Speaker 1: you ever seen my husband Jeremy host before?
- 41:23Speaker 1: Can I just take a moment so I don't think he's,
- 41:26Speaker 1: he's definitely not tuning in now because he, uh, is
- 41:29Speaker 1: probably at work already.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Again, you know, I love that man.
- 41:33Speaker 2: So I'm gonna say this.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Sometimes I feel like the third party. You are.
- 41:37Speaker 2: If you gave him your skills and knowledge and trained him,
- 41:41Speaker 2: I actually think Jeremy would be a very good host
- 41:44Speaker 2: because I, I feel that he's the kind of person
- 41:46Speaker 2: where if he's like an invited speaker to give like
- 41:49Speaker 2: a financial update or financial overview of Singapore, right, yeah,
- 41:53Speaker 2: I'll listen.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Actually, you're not wrong because I think that that is
- 41:56Speaker 1: part of what he has to do for his job.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Like sometimes he has to do presentations or, and, and
- 42:01Speaker 1: sometimes he will ask me for tips. So he'd be like, hey,
- 42:03Speaker 1: you know, I need to present this rather dry topic.
- 42:06Speaker 1: How do you
- 42:06Speaker 1: I think I can like spice it up. And then
- 42:08Speaker 1: he would try and run it through and say, you
- 42:10Speaker 1: know what, I don't know anything about the financial terms,
- 42:12Speaker 1: but I can try to help you inject some personality.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I'm sure most of the time I've seen Jeremy was
- 42:16Speaker 2: in a he's a person that aura to him. Right.
- 42:18Speaker 2: But also, I
- 42:18Speaker 1: just,
- 42:23Speaker 1: it was very cute because his best friend, like I
- 42:26Speaker 1: told you, um, is getting married during this time, OK.
- 42:29Speaker 1: So the solemnization happened just on Saturday, and then there's
- 42:33Speaker 1: going to be like part two this coming weekend.
- 42:36Speaker 1: So he's been tasked to host both, OK. And um
- 42:40Speaker 1: he did the first one solo that day on Saturday,
- 42:43Speaker 1: to which I think all of us, like all the
- 42:45Speaker 1: friends that were seated, were just collectively like gripping each
- 42:48Speaker 1: other's hands and trying not to laugh because he was
- 42:51Speaker 1: honestly very cute lah on stage, very cute, but also,
- 42:55Speaker 1: he became like prim and proper germ, you know, like.
- 42:58Speaker 1: There was a slight hint of like, I don't know,
- 43:01Speaker 1: he was speaking to the queen or something while he
- 43:03Speaker 1: was on stage. Do you have a video? I don't
- 43:06Speaker 1: have a video of him saying that in particular, but
- 43:08Speaker 1: there was one line that I always laugh about. Can
- 43:10Speaker 2: you please imitate him to the best of your
- 43:12Speaker 2: ability?
- 43:13Speaker 1: He goes, Welcome everyone to this momentous occasion.
- 43:19Speaker 1: And then me and like a few other friends were
- 43:21Speaker 1: just like trying not to laugh because it was very cute, honestly.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And then he looked at us, I gave him a
- 43:27Speaker 1: thumbs up. I was like, good job, good job.
- 43:30Speaker 1: You know that you're, you're doing great, sweetie.
- 43:33Speaker 1: OK. This is honestly very funny because the tables are turned.
- 43:37Speaker 1: He's watching us,
- 43:44Speaker 2: Sonia Sonia doesn't make you a good finance
- 43:46Speaker 1: I'm not a
- 43:47Speaker 1: good finance person.
- 43:48Speaker 2: So different skills.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Yes, I already told you I'm not good at.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Numbers. I can't math. I can't do that.
- 43:55Speaker 2: But you know what, Jeremy time. He
- 43:59Speaker 1: can do it. He can do it
- 43:59Speaker 2: in the future.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I'll report back after this coming weekend. This coming weekend
- 44:03Speaker 1: is a longer, longer one. Yeah, that one actually got,
- 44:07Speaker 1: I think, whole rundown and everything. More momentous occasion occasion.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Please give the bride and groom a welcome for their
- 44:16Speaker 2: wholesome appearance. Please
- 44:17Speaker 1: rise.
