Boat operators in Washington must display a bright red or orange 12x12 inch “skier down” flag when towing water skiers, tubes, or similar gear — it’s not optional, it’s a safety rule. The flag must be raised when someone’s in the water and lowered once they’re up and moving. Crucially, there must be at least one extra person on board to monitor the towed individual and manage the flag.
