Proof
"Proof" is a short poem in which a lover answers a doubting heart with three quiet, daring claims. The speaker insists that love only began to be real once it was felt, that love and life are one and the same, and that love therefore cannot die. When the beloved still asks for evidence, the speaker offers one final, solemn answer. In just twelve lines, devotion is tested against doubt and sacrifice.
