- 0:06Isn't that nice? The reality of our responsibility
- 0:11to love God. Now you see, over the last few months
- 0:18when we were teaching about obedience, the importance
- 0:21of obedience. Because if we are truly obedient,
- 0:26Then we will love God with all our heart, with
- 0:29all our soul, with all our might, with all our
- 0:31mind. And we will be able to love our neighbor
- 0:35as ourselves or as he has loved us as Jesus gave
- 0:39a new commandment. Today's message, let's connect.
- 0:46All right. Today's message. confirm your calling
- 0:51and election by reminder of Christ's return.
- 0:55So interesting enough, what Peter does is he
- 0:58reminds us several times in his second letter,
- 1:02and there's a reason. It's not just a reminder
- 1:05to live holy and right lives. That's the idea
- 1:09of being prepared, but it's also the reminder
- 1:12of his return. That the calling and our election
- 1:18is confirmed when we not only continue to challenge
- 1:23each other, remind each other to walk in accordance
- 1:25to the word of God. But that we are also reminding
- 1:28each other of the importance of that life as
- 1:31being prepared for his return. Because he is
- 1:34going to come. And we're going to deal with that
- 1:37in chapter 3 of 2 Peter. So if you guys would
- 1:41turn there. 2 Peter chapter 3. I will read the
- 1:46first 10 verses, and then we will end up going
- 1:51on into the message. He says, this is now the
- 1:58second letter that I'm writing to you, beloved.
- 2:01In both of them, I am stirring you up. your sincere
- 2:06mind by way of reminder that you should remember
- 2:10the predictions of the holy prophets and the
- 2:14commandments of the Lord and Savior through your
- 2:18apostles. Let's pray. Father, I want to thank
- 2:20you so much for your faithfulness. Thank you,
- 2:22Lord, for your word. As we go through this second
- 2:25letter, this last chapter, I pray that you are
- 2:28honored and glorified and that we would... rightly
- 2:31handle the Word of God as workmen approve, but
- 2:33also that your full counsel of your Word will
- 2:35be taught as we dig into understanding what it's
- 2:40truly going to be like in the day of the Lord.
- 2:44Lord, we ask for your wisdom. We ask for your
- 2:47truth. And we pray that you are honored and glorified
- 2:51in and through it. In Jesus' name, amen. Verse
- 2:543, knowing this, first of all, That scoffers
- 2:57will come in the last days with scoffing, following
- 3:01their own sinful desires. They will say, where
- 3:05is the promise of his coming? For ever since
- 3:08the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing
- 3:11as they were from the beginning of creation.
- 3:18For they deliberately overlook this fact. That
- 3:23the heavens existed long ago and the earth was
- 3:26formed out of water and through water by the
- 3:30word of God. And that by means of these, the
- 3:34world that then existed was deluged with water
- 3:38and perished. But by the same word, the heavens
- 3:43and the earth that now exist are stored up. for
- 3:47fire being kept until the day of judgment and
- 3:52the destruction of the ungodly. But do not overlook
- 3:55this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one
- 3:59day is as a thousand years and a thousand years
- 4:01as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his
- 4:05promise as some count slowness, but is patient
- 4:08toward you, not wishing that any should perish,
- 4:13but that all Should reach repentance. But the
- 4:19day of the Lord. Will come like a thief. And
- 4:21the heavens will pass away. With a roar. And
- 4:25the heavenly bodies. Will be burned up and dissolved.
- 4:27And the earth and the works. That are done on
- 4:32it. Will be exposed. May the Lord bless the reading
- 4:35of his word. So the reason why we're only doing.
- 4:39Verse 1 through 10, technically. You could probably
- 4:42do an entire sermon just on verses 1 through
- 4:454. But as you know, we've been going through
- 4:47these letters in an introduction, in a broad
- 4:53covering of the letters so you understand why
- 4:56it was written and what it was written for. And
- 4:58the reality is, it really does practically fit
- 5:02for today. There is a lot of nonsense. Being
- 5:08taught concerning the last days. A lot of prophets
- 5:11preaching as if they know why they had a dream.
- 5:18That the Lord was coming. Well, thank you for
- 5:22letting me know. I didn't, I thought God's word
- 5:27was true. I mean, thank you for the heads up.
- 5:31And this all started since the beginning. You
- 5:36guys probably remember one of our favorite false
- 5:38prophets was Howard Camping. That's facetious.
- 5:43I'm just being facetious, not a favorite. And
- 5:48so the reason why I think it's important that
- 5:51we handle this subject, since we do expository
- 5:56preaching, is that we must have a real good sound
- 6:00biblical overview. Of the Lord's return and the
- 6:04day of the Lord. And Peter does a very good job
- 6:10to summarize the reality of this truth. And it's
- 6:16kind of cool to see God's providential hand through
- 6:19the process of how we have gone through each
- 6:22letter. And each letter over these last four
- 6:24years have been exactly what we needed as a people.
- 6:30So principle number one. What is our responsibility?
- 6:33What's my responsibility? What's your responsibility?
- 6:35Let us stir up one another until his return.
- 6:39Our job, our responsibility is not just preaching
- 6:43the word, but it's to stir you to continue to
- 6:47preach the word. Right? I've said this before.
- 6:51There are many churches go, well, I have a vision.
- 6:52I'm glad. That's really nice. You know, and many
- 6:57times churches are looking for those pastors
- 6:59who are vision casters. When the reality is the
- 7:04one thing they should be focused on casting is
- 7:06getting the people to continue doing the mission.
- 7:11Preach the gospel. Pretty simple. But remember,
- 7:15we have all these other visions that we're trying
- 7:17to do. All those things are important. They matter.
- 7:21It's not that they don't matter. But if my vision
- 7:23is to do this and not preach the gospel, then
- 7:27I've lost the purpose of the mission. My mission
- 7:29is not to do the vision. My mission is to do
- 7:32the gospel. The vision is to help do the work,
- 7:37equip the saints. Very important. When a church
- 7:43is doing something outside of the gospel, then
- 7:46it's not a vision. It's a deception. So, how
- 7:53do we stir up one another until his return? Remind
- 7:56you. Of how you should live as a holy people.
- 8:00Obedient to the commandments of the Lord because
- 8:03you love him. The fact that God lives in you
- 8:06stirs you to move and live in such a way that
- 8:08I want to please him. And as a result, I am stirring
- 8:12you up until his return that you are busy doing
- 8:16the mission. Now, in Luke. 12, 35 says, stay
- 8:27dressed for action and keep your lamps burning.
- 8:33Do you hear that? Are you dressed for action?
- 8:38What does it mean to be dressed for action? Have
- 8:40you put on Christ? The helmet of salvation, the
- 8:45breastplate of righteousness, the buckle of truth.
- 8:47Are your feet fitted with the readiness of the
- 8:49gospel of peace? Are you carrying the sword of
- 8:51the spirit and know it well so you know how to
- 8:53handle your weapon? And do you have the shield
- 8:55of faith that you can extinguish the flaming
- 8:58darts of the evil one? Very important. Are you
- 9:05dressed in Christ? Have you put on his righteousness?
- 9:08It wasn't by an accident that this was mentioned
- 9:11today. We don't see Christ because of our own
- 9:15righteousness. We will see him because of his
- 9:17righteousness. He who knew no sin became sin
- 9:20for us that we may become the righteousness of
- 9:23God. Are you dressed for action? And are you
- 9:27keeping your lamp burning? What lamp are you
- 9:31burning? What lamp are you burning? Thankfully,
- 9:37we're a non -denominational church. But the reality
- 9:40is, Are you burning your lamp for your denomination?
- 9:44Are you burning your lamp for the gospel? Are
- 9:50you burning your lamp for America? Are you burning
- 9:53your lamp for the nation called the church? Which
- 9:58lamp are you burning? Are you burning your lamp
- 10:01at both ends? Christ says, burn your lamp. And
- 10:11it's interesting because Peter talks about that
- 10:14in chapter 1, does he not? 2 Peter 3, 1 through
- 10:203. This is now the second letter. I'm writing
- 10:27you, beloved. And in both of them, I am stirring
- 10:32you up. I'm stirring up your sincere mind by
- 10:38way of reminder. So what happens in families,
- 10:42right? We get comfortable. Right? I got to tell
- 10:48you, my wife never lets me get comfortable. You
- 10:52know, come home, want to chill. She's like, you
- 11:01got to do the dishes. I'm like, well, yes, dear.
- 11:09It's a reminder that the work is never done.
- 11:14The work is never done. 1 Peter chapter 4, verse
- 11:187. Notice what it says here. As a reminder, the
- 11:24end of all things is at hand. Therefore, be self
- 11:27-controlled, sober -minded for the sake of your
- 11:31prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly.
- 11:37Since love covers a multitude of sins. He reminds
- 11:42us there. He tells us how we should be living.
- 11:45And he's reminding us again. I am stirring up
- 11:49your sincere mind by way of reminder. That you
- 11:53should remember the predictions of the holy prophets.
- 11:57And the commandments of the Lord and Savior through
- 12:01your apostles. Interesting. What is he reminding
- 12:05us? Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, the Psalms. Christ
- 12:12is and will return. There is that day. It will
- 12:21happen. And what he's doing here is he is letting
- 12:24them know, don't forget what the Lord had given
- 12:27you through his word, through the prophets and
- 12:30the apostles. Remember, they had talked about
- 12:35this. Why? Because God's word is true and you
- 12:38can take it to the bank. It will happen. It's
- 12:46giving Peter's statement authority. It is the
- 12:52word of God that claims this truth. Remember
- 12:55the predictions of his return. You know because
- 12:58he promised he would come the first time. And
- 13:02he did. Matthew 24, 44. Look what Jesus says.
- 13:11Therefore, you also must be ready. For the Son
- 13:17of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
- 13:20Are you ready? Are you ready? Because when we
- 13:24get to the other part of this chapter and we
- 13:26start to read what happens to the earth and everything
- 13:30that is ungodly, you want to be ready. It is
- 13:35a terrifying thing to be in the hands of an angry
- 13:38God. Not only does he have love and grace for
- 13:42his people, but he is angry towards sin and he
- 13:45will utterly destroy it. Down to the smallest
- 13:49particle. He actually says that here. Knowing
- 13:56this first of all, that scoffers will come in
- 14:02the last days with scoffing. Hear that. Are you
- 14:09ready? Can you, knowing fully the word of God,
- 14:15be able to defend the faith that God has faithfully
- 14:18entrusted to you? Can you handle the word of
- 14:23God in such a way that when someone comes to
- 14:25debate you or scoff you or to malign the reality
- 14:30of Christ's coming, can you defend it properly?
- 14:32You'd be surprised how many people aren't ready.
- 14:38Why? Because we had faithless men teaching a
- 14:43faithless gospel to a faithless people. What
- 14:47is faith? God's promises are true. And knowing
- 14:54that he will faithfully commit them to you on
- 14:59your behalf for the glory of Christ. Being sure
- 15:03of what you hope for and the evidence of what
- 15:05you don't see. I know God is faithful to keep
- 15:08his word and he will do it fully. It's an amazing,
- 15:13beautiful thing. Now, what's interesting about
- 15:17this word. Here in the last days was scoffing
- 15:20following their own sinful desires. Epithumia
- 15:27is the word here. It means desire what is forbidden.
- 15:32That these faithless preachers, these faithless
- 15:36teachers, they only seek the desires of the flesh.
- 15:45Why is this so important? I think because in
- 15:51the days that we live in right now, the leaders
- 15:55of the world are surrounding themselves with
- 15:58faithless people. Second principle. The fool
- 16:02says in his heart there is no God. He also says
- 16:05he's not coming. But history reminds us that
- 16:09there was a flood. Noah had flood insurance.
- 16:13And do you have fire insurance? Because this
- 16:16time, It'll be burned. What was Noah's flood
- 16:24insurance? The promise of the word of God. I
- 16:29will keep you through this wrath. And he did.
- 16:35Noah believed him and he built a boat. And we
- 16:39know because last week we talked about what happened
- 16:41to Noah. The scripture says that the day it started
- 16:45to rain. Noah was put in the boat, and God closed
- 16:50the door. Matthew 24, 37 through 39. For as were
- 16:58the days of Noah, so will the coming of the Son
- 17:03of Man be. For as in those days before the flood,
- 17:07they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving
- 17:10into marriage, until the day when Noah entered
- 17:13the ark. Do you hear that? The reason why Jesus
- 17:16says it this way is a reminder that Noah entered
- 17:20the ark the day the wrath started. Get that.
- 17:25Forget about all the other crazy nonsense you're
- 17:28being taught. The day the wrath started, Noah
- 17:32was put into the ark. The very day. And God closed
- 17:40him in. And when they were unaware until the
- 17:43flood came and swept them all away, except for
- 17:46Noah, who was in the ark, so will be the coming
- 17:53of the Son of Man. Oh, thank God that you will
- 17:56be in Christ. That's the point of the removal
- 17:59of God's people. He is our ark. He is our security.
- 18:06He is our safety. And then in Peter 3, 4 through
- 18:147, 2 Peter, they will say, where's the promise
- 18:17of his coming? Oh, don't you know? It's coming.
- 18:23They're going to say it. They're saying it now.
- 18:26For ever since the father fell asleep, I want
- 18:29you to notice how Peter uses this language. He's
- 18:35talking to, he's talking about the Jews. Making
- 18:39fun of the believers. Where's this coming? Reminds
- 18:44me of a prophet. We talked a little bit about
- 18:49that. Elijah and the 250 priests of Baal. Well,
- 18:58in the same way, they're going to try to say,
- 19:01ah, God's not real. Do you know what the percentage
- 19:04is of atheist Jews? It's over 65%. Did you guys
- 19:13know that? They don't believe in God. They believe
- 19:19in the law called the Talmud. That's what they
- 19:23believe in. That's their God. And that's why
- 19:28Paul says the God is their stomach. So they make
- 19:33fun of the reality of the deity of Jesus because
- 19:37they never believed. In the living God. It's
- 19:42a crazy statistic. Just look up Pew. Where is
- 19:46the promise of his coming? For ever since the
- 19:48father fell asleep, all things are continuing
- 19:51as they were from the beginning of creation.
- 19:55It's interesting. It's an atheistic view. John
- 19:58MacArthur puts it this way. It's immutable uniformitarianism.
- 20:04You're like, say that word. He just coined it.
- 20:08But it's so true. Immutable uniformitarianism.
- 20:15The unchanging uniformity. John MacArthur states,
- 20:21quote unquote. For they deliberately overlook.
- 20:24Thelo lanthano. They willfully keep hidden. Out
- 20:31of sight, out of mind is the idea. Romans chapter
- 20:341. Turn there. Verse 19. For what can be known
- 20:38about God is plain to them because God has shown
- 20:41it to them for his invisible attributes, namely
- 20:45his eternal power and divine nature, having been
- 20:48clearly perceived ever since the creation of
- 20:50the world in the things that have been made so
- 20:53that they are without excuse. For although they
- 20:56knew God, they did not honor him as God and give
- 20:59thanks to him, but became futile in their thinking
- 21:02and their foolish hearts were darkened. Out of
- 21:07sight, out of mind. Thalo Lanzano. They don't
- 21:13really care. This fact, the reality of this truth,
- 21:19that the heavens existed long ago and the earth
- 21:22was formed out of water and through water by
- 21:26the word of God. I want you to get this. I don't
- 21:28know how it was taught to you. Hopefully you're
- 21:31not an evolution creationist. Doesn't exist.
- 21:36The reality is that God had brought together
- 21:40hydrogen and oxygen. Whether it's gas or liquid,
- 21:44no one knows. What we do know is that it was
- 21:46present. And out of that, God creates everything.
- 21:53What a powerful God we have. And that was his
- 21:57point. God destroyed the earth with water the
- 22:02first time by the very thing that he created
- 22:04it. Except this time, not so much. Verse 6. And
- 22:11that by means of these, the world that then existed
- 22:16was deluged with water and perished. We know
- 22:21what that looks like in Genesis 6 .13. And God
- 22:25said to Noah, I have determined to make an end
- 22:28of all flesh. For the earth is filled with violence
- 22:31through them. Behold, I will destroy them with
- 22:36the earth. With the earth. The very thing that
- 22:40I created for my glory that they may live and
- 22:43walk with me, that very thing I will destroy
- 22:46them with. Except this time, not so much. Look
- 22:51what it says in chapter 7, verse 23 and 24. He
- 22:56blotted out every living thing that was on the
- 22:58face of the ground, man and animals and creeping
- 23:01things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted
- 23:04out from the earth. Only Noah was left and those
- 23:08who were with him in the ark. And the waters
- 23:11prevailed on the earth for 150 days. If you want
- 23:14to know, was God making sure everything was dead?
- 23:19I don't know about you, but treading water for
- 23:21150 days is an impossibility. Now, if you're
- 23:24a great swimmer, maybe a Navy SEAL, you might
- 23:28be able to do it for like two days. But there
- 23:30comes a time when every muscle in your body is
- 23:33going to cramp up and you're going to sink. God
- 23:37made sure even the best of swimmers were sinking.
- 23:40But look what it says in verse 7. But by the
- 23:44same word, the same word that God created all
- 23:47things out of ex nihilo, out of nothing. The
- 23:54same word, by the same word, the heavens and
- 23:57the earth that now exist are stored up for fire,
- 24:00judgment, purification. There's one thing that
- 24:06water can't do. It cannot purify the soul of
- 24:10its sin. There's one thing that fire can do.
- 24:14Destroy everything. Being kept until the day
- 24:18of judgment and the destruction of the ungodly.
- 24:22Revelation 20. Verse 11. Then I saw a great white
- 24:32throne and him who sat on it. And from his presence,
- 24:37earth and sky fled away. And no place was found
- 24:41for them. And I saw the dead, great and small,
- 24:45standing before the throne. And the books were
- 24:47opened. And another book was opened, which is
- 24:50the book of life. And the dead were judged by
- 24:53what was written in the books according to what
- 24:57they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who
- 25:01were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead
- 25:04who were in them. And they were judged, each
- 25:06of them, according to what they had done. Then
- 25:09death and Hades were thrown into the lake of
- 25:13fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
- 25:18And if anyone's name was not found written in
- 25:20the book of life, they were thrown into the lake
- 25:21of fire. The idea of fire is a total annihilation.
- 25:27In Revelation, the scripture says that Jesus
- 25:30is a God of war. He has declared war upon all
- 25:35things that are ungodly and sinful. That is a
- 25:38reality. When Christ comes, he's not coming to
- 25:42save. He's coming to destroy. And those who are
- 25:45saved in him, he has promised to keep. Look what
- 25:49it says here. Christ will keep his promise to
- 25:51deliver his people from his wrath and to bring
- 25:54to nothing all that is wicked and corrupt. 1
- 25:57Thessalonians 5, 9 through 11. For God has not
- 26:01destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation
- 26:04through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us.
- 26:08That whether we are awake or asleep, we might
- 26:11live with him. Whether we are walking this earth
- 26:14or we are buried in it, if you are in Christ,
- 26:17you are alive in him. Therefore, encourage one
- 26:21another and build up one another just as you
- 26:23are doing. Again, Paul states the same thing.
- 26:32Which Peter gives Paul recognition for the same
- 26:36thing. What's interesting in verses 8 through
- 26:3910, and we're done, is in the original language
- 26:42it says, but you not overlook this one. That's
- 26:48what it says in the original. I don't know why
- 26:51they use the word do not when it's specifically
- 26:54talking to you. But you as God's people. Do not
- 27:00overlook this one reality, this one truth, this
- 27:03one fact. And they use the word fact in the English,
- 27:06but it's not there in the Greek. And the point
- 27:10is, don't overlook this truth, this reality.
- 27:16That with the Lord, one day is as a thousand
- 27:19years, and a thousand years is as a day. And
- 27:21trust me, many believers get this wrong. To be
- 27:25like, see, you know. A day is as a thousand years
- 27:29and a thousand years is as a day. And they just
- 27:31decide to throw it into their ecclesiastical
- 27:35arguments. It's not what he means here. Peter
- 27:41clarifies what he means here. This idea that
- 27:44one day is as a thousand years and a thousand
- 27:46years is as a day just means with God, time doesn't
- 27:50matter. And he clarifies this truth. If you're
- 27:55God and you sit outside of time, a thousand years
- 27:59this way and a thousand years this way looks
- 28:00the same. As one day, the Lord is not slow to
- 28:06fulfill his promise as some count slowness. I
- 28:10got to tell you, the ESV has done a phenomenal
- 28:12job in translation here. Can't say it any better.
- 28:18The Lord not slow his promise as some count slowness.
- 28:23In other words, Time doesn't matter. What matters
- 28:28is his promise. And if we know that God keeps
- 28:31his promise, notice what he says here in the
- 28:33original, but patient toward you. He's talking
- 28:37to the church. When he says you, he's not talking
- 28:41to lost people because lost people don't read
- 28:44the word. It's specifically a message to you.
- 28:47This is what Peter's writing to them. This is
- 28:51a letter to the church. But is patient toward
- 28:54you. Not wishing, not willing, not pleased that
- 28:59any. The word any is tis. And I've looked at
- 29:05the BLB and I've looked at Step Bible, Strong's,
- 29:09all the concordances say the same thing. Certain
- 29:13one or some of many. Do you get that? He's not
- 29:19wishing that the certain ones, you. Not wishing
- 29:23that some of many, you, should be destroyed.
- 29:29In what? The fire. That's what he's talking about
- 29:33here. Context is everything. But we know, we
- 29:38got those favorite little messages we got to
- 29:40put together. Just to take things way out of
- 29:42context so that we don't understand. So that
- 29:45when you see things happening, fear is present.
- 29:48I don't live in fear of the day. I live in joy
- 29:52and expectation. That's what keeps me preaching
- 29:55the gospel. That's the point. I mean, knowing
- 29:59that I belong to him and that when he comes,
- 30:03I will be put, that I'm in him as Noah was in
- 30:06the ark, protected from his wrath. That he has
- 30:11not destined me for his wrath, but he is faithful
- 30:14to keep his promise that I will continue with
- 30:17him forever. What's interesting is this next
- 30:19word. Notice what it says here. But that all,
- 30:22pas, all the whole should reach, should proceed,
- 30:29should turn. All of what? All of tis, all of
- 30:33the certain ones, all of the some of many. All
- 30:38of you should turn, should come to the change
- 30:43concerning any and all. elements of life. That's
- 30:47the idea. Repentance is not turning away from
- 30:49sin by itself. Repentance is turning toward God
- 30:53away from sin. Not turning from sin to go to
- 30:58God. Listen, if God left me to my own demise
- 31:04to turn from the very thing that I love more
- 31:06than anything on the planet. That I gave my mind,
- 31:10my body, my money, my thoughts to. Why in the
- 31:13world would I leave the thing I love the most
- 31:15to go to the one I hate? Think logically. But
- 31:19God has presented himself to us in holiness and
- 31:22goodness. And in his justice has paid a price
- 31:26for us that we cannot pay. By placing his wrath
- 31:30on his son. And then we see the beauty of that
- 31:32reality because of the regeneration of the Holy
- 31:34Spirit in my heart. I turn him and I go, oh my
- 31:39gosh, that's beautiful. I want that. And I turn
- 31:44to God and I look at my sin and I go, I don't
- 31:47want that. That is repentance. Biblical repentance
- 31:51is a turning to God away from sin. That's what
- 31:54biblical repentance is. It's the change that
- 31:57happens by the power of the Holy Spirit in the
- 31:59entire life of the individual. They become a
- 32:03new creature. The doctrine of regeneration. But
- 32:08the day of the Lord will come like a thief. We
- 32:11know that. 1 Thessalonians 5. Everybody likes
- 32:14to quote these verses, I know. If you ever want
- 32:17to wreck your eschatology, Just read 1 Thessalonians
- 32:225 and 2 Thessalonians 2. Read it. And you go,
- 32:28I got a conundrum now. What do I do with that?
- 32:33But look what it says, verse 4, 1 Thessalonians
- 32:365, 4. But you are not in darkness, brothers,
- 32:41for the day to surprise you like a thief. And
- 32:45Peter again says the day of the Lord will come
- 32:47like a thief. And why are so many believers surprised?
- 32:50Why are so many believers surprised? And what
- 32:53do they do? They go to their churches and sit
- 32:56in their pews and are looking. But they do nothing.
- 33:00They're not ready. They're not doing the work.
- 33:05It should drive you to work. Jesus is coming.
- 33:08I want to work. Jesus is coming. I want to be
- 33:11found faithful. Jesus is coming. I want to be
- 33:14busy. Jesus is coming. You know the best way
- 33:19for you to look for his return is to do what
- 33:22he's commanded. Not sit on your bum looking up
- 33:26wondering, I wonder if he's going to come today.
- 33:28Oh, there's a cloud. I like that one. That looks
- 33:32like a chariot. Oh, he's not there. But that's
- 33:38what people do. And then the heavens will pass
- 33:40away with a roar. What should you be doing being
- 33:45busy? Why? Because when he returns, the heavens
- 33:48will pass away with a roar. Isn't that what it
- 33:52says in chapter 20 of Revelation at the judgment
- 33:57seat? This word roar means a crash or a loud
- 34:00noise. And the heavenly bodies, the natural universe,
- 34:03the elements, this word bodies means the smallest
- 34:09of things. The things you can't even see, he
- 34:15is going to burn up and dissolve, demolish. He
- 34:20will burn it up and demolish it. And the earth,
- 34:25the land, the world, and the works, all the accomplishments
- 34:30of men that are done on it will be exposed. They
- 34:34will be unhidden. They will be found out. So
- 34:38how should you live as a people? As we are reminded
- 34:41of the liberty that we have been freely given.
- 34:45Is our work just to be, attend church, go home?
- 34:50Or is our work is to preach the gospel to all
- 34:55creatures? Don't you want to be found busy working?
- 34:58My wife and I, I've got to use this. My wife
- 35:01and I was talking about Mary and Martha. And
- 35:04this will hit home for some of the moms. She's
- 35:11doing a great job mentoring them. Now, she shared
- 35:14with me, I want to be a Mary. I want to be at
- 35:17Jesus' feet. You ever notice that Jesus never
- 35:19rebukes Martha for her service? That's not why
- 35:22he rebuked her. He didn't go, you know, you should
- 35:24be like Mary and be sitting down. He never says
- 35:27that. Martha's problem is she's focused on Mary.
- 35:35It's like I'm doing all this work in the house
- 35:36and I'm left to do this by myself. Or tell her
- 35:39to get up. I mean, this is ridiculous. This is
- 35:41her responsibility. I mean, she's a woman after
- 35:43all. Because she's rebuking her sister for being
- 35:45lazy. But he never rebukes Martha for work. He
- 35:52says, Mary has chosen the better. What's the
- 35:57better? Not doing any work? No. She has chosen
- 36:02me. But Martha, if Martha served Christ and was
- 36:09busy for serving Christ because of her love for
- 36:13her Savior, for her God, she would have chosen
- 36:17the better. But Mary wasn't worried about Jesus
- 36:19and serving him. She was worried about getting
- 36:21the work done. So it's not by an accident that
- 36:24God calls us to be busy. The question is, what
- 36:28is your purpose and reason for being busy? To
- 36:32please him. When you settle in and lay at his
- 36:37feet, you do it because you want to please him.
- 36:41When you serve and work, you serve and work because
- 36:45you want to please him. What's interesting is
- 36:48you hear the second time Martha is found working
- 36:55is when Mary is before Jesus and she takes the
- 37:00alabaster jar and breaks it. And anoints him.
- 37:05And the disciples go, Judas, that's a lot of
- 37:08money. But you never know, what most people don't
- 37:14know is there's this little statement in there.
- 37:16It says, as Martha was serving, never rebukes
- 37:22her for not serving. Why? She learned her lesson.
- 37:27The service that she had rendered was for his
- 37:30service. She was focused on the Savior and serving
- 37:35him, not focused on her sister as she broke the
- 37:39jar. Are you busy? Are you serving? Because that's
- 37:47my challenge to you and your freedom. We don't
- 37:50just have a freedom to gather. We have a freedom
- 37:52to preach. And there are many brothers and sisters
- 37:54who are dying for preaching because they don't
- 38:00have the freedom. in their land, but they have
- 38:03the freedom in their spirit. Father, I want to
- 38:05thank you so much for your faithfulness and goodness.
- 38:08Thank you for this word. May we always be busy
- 38:13knowing that you are and will fulfill your promise
- 38:20that you will return and that everything on this
- 38:24earth will be burned. Everything concerning the
- 38:28ungodliness of men will be Exposed and destroyed.
- 38:34That you'll be honored and glorified as the king
- 38:37who reigns and sits on the throne. We praise
- 38:40you and thank you in Jesus' name.
