- 0:13Speaker 1: Music they make is like them but it ain't like
- 0:16Speaker 1: exactly them they just like it's art bro like you
- 0:19Speaker 1: know what i mean like and that's what's interesting is
- 0:21Speaker 1: like people will take they'll take it serious they'll think
- 0:23Speaker 1: like you're trying to make some statement yeah this is
- 0:25Speaker 1: literally they're like that's a systematic manhood thought and that's
- 0:28Speaker 1: why it's like Like, no, it's literally like a joke
- 0:30Speaker 1: about Taheem. It's not that serious.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Like, yeah.
- 0:34Speaker 1: So it's been, that's been interesting.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And I will say that too. Like some, sometimes the
- 0:38Speaker 1: stuff that will pop a lot of times, it's just
- 0:40Speaker 1: stuff that it's because people are arguing in the comments
- 0:42Speaker 1: and stuff. So I had to get over that. Cause
- 0:45Speaker 1: it happened like late, like last summer I had a
- 0:46Speaker 1: clip do good. And I was like, all right, I
- 0:48Speaker 1: need to like capitalize and like keep posting. But then like,
- 0:51Speaker 1: I couldn't like, I didn't want it. Like I was like, Oh,
- 0:53Speaker 1: this feels, I don't like the way this, this makes
- 0:55Speaker 1: me feel uncomfortable. I don't like, this isn't fun like
- 0:58Speaker 1: this isn't i'm.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Not having a good time i'm i'm hoed out right now.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah i didn't like so i didn't i didn't like
- 1:03Speaker 1: it and so like i i didn't post i didn't
- 1:05Speaker 1: like capitalize uncapitalize i didn't post like more consistently like
- 1:08Speaker 1: i should have and then like this time i've just
- 1:10Speaker 1: been like more like dialed in like all right i'm
- 1:13Speaker 1: gonna post stuff every day and i'm gonna just see
- 1:16Speaker 1: how i don't really know how sustainable it's gonna be
- 1:19Speaker 1: but um i'm just like locked in and i'm less
- 1:21Speaker 1: like now when i see a bad comment I just
- 1:25Speaker 1: get rid of the notification and then I just literally, I'll,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I will respond to like the positive stuff.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Like people who are engaging and like, they're like, Oh dude,
- 1:32Speaker 1: this is funny. Or, Oh yo, I'm from, I'm from
- 1:35Speaker 1: that your hometown too. Or, Oh yo, I live in
- 1:37Speaker 1: San Diego. Like whatever it is, like those people, I'm like,
- 1:40Speaker 1: or they're like, yo, this was mad funny. Like I
- 1:42Speaker 1: got to follow you. Like I'll at least be like, yo, Hey,
- 1:44Speaker 1: thanks for watching. Appreciate you. You know, like, cause I'm like,
- 1:48Speaker 1: that's where I want to put my energy at is
- 1:49Speaker 1: like the positive people that are like, They're getting something
- 1:52Speaker 1: out of it, which is cool. Cause to me, that's
- 1:53Speaker 1: just the added thing, right? Like I look at it,
- 1:55Speaker 1: like whoever was in the room, they got the real show.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And then if you're just on your couch and you're scrolling,
- 2:01Speaker 1: this is just like a bonus thing you got. Like,
- 2:03Speaker 1: so if you thought that was cool and you laughed
- 2:05Speaker 1: in your couch, like that's pretty dope. Like I just
- 2:07Speaker 1: did the show for like the real people that were
- 2:09Speaker 1: there and you saw it on your phone and you
- 2:11Speaker 1: had a good experience.
- 2:12Speaker 2: That's cool. You know what I mean?
- 2:13Speaker 1: And I look at the people that are not feeling
- 2:15Speaker 1: it just same way. I look at the people who like,
- 2:17Speaker 1: don't like you at a show. Which there's always those people,
- 2:19Speaker 1: you know, you see them that you could tell they
- 2:21Speaker 1: kind of make half eye contact with you. They feel
- 2:24Speaker 1: weird because like the crowd liked you and they laughed,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but they, they hated you.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 1: They can't tell you, they can't walk up to you
- 2:29Speaker 1: and be like, Hey, you suck, man. Because everybody else
- 2:32Speaker 1: is telling you, Oh my God, you're good. Can I
- 2:34Speaker 1: buy your stickers?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And they don't want to go tell you suck because
- 2:36Speaker 1: it's real life now. So that, that miserable person also
- 2:40Speaker 1: exists on their couch, except they have like no emoji
- 2:43Speaker 1: as they know. no avatar and they could just say
- 2:45Speaker 1: whatever they want from the comfort of their house. You know,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you're like, so that's what it is. Like I had
- 2:50Speaker 1: to realize that I'm like, some dude wrote that yesterday
- 2:52Speaker 1: on one of my posts. He goes, uh, last night
- 2:54Speaker 1: I actually laughed, which was, I felt good for me
- 2:56Speaker 1: as a person. He goes, um, he goes, you're still
- 2:59Speaker 1: a lame from Rhode Island. This isn't funny at all.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And I was like, I looked at his page and
- 3:04Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, this guy don't even got a picture.
- 3:06Speaker 1: He's got like, he follows more people than follow him.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I'm like, man, this guy's just, This isn't even his
- 3:12Speaker 1: real Instagram.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Really? You know what I mean?
- 3:13Speaker 1: So I'm like, why am I going to take this guy?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Something happened to him.
- 3:16Speaker 2: This has nothing to do with me. Because you're originally
- 3:20Speaker 2: from East Coast.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah, from East Coast.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Dude, what if it's just some jealous-ass old schoolmate classmate?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Bro, and you know what's crazy? I thought that too.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I was like, oh, what if this is somebody who
- 3:28Speaker 1: just don't like me and they're mad to see that
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'm actually still doing comedy or that anybody would even
- 3:33Speaker 1: find me funny, you know? And then, like I said,
- 3:35Speaker 1: in that same moment, I thought about it like three
- 3:37Speaker 1: days before that. my high school football coach saw a
- 3:40Speaker 1: video and he followed me on Instagram and he like
- 3:43Speaker 1: sent me, he wrote like a nice message on my
- 3:45Speaker 1: post or whatever. And like, so I was like, man,
- 3:48Speaker 1: like to me, that was like, that meant more and
- 3:51Speaker 1: affected my mood more than the guy who was being
- 3:53Speaker 1: a hater. Even if it was somebody who maybe really
- 3:55Speaker 1: knows me.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 1: How cool. I haven't seen my, my high school football
- 3:57Speaker 1: coach in 20 years. Like I haven't seen that guy
- 4:00Speaker 1: since I went to high school, you know, really, maybe
- 4:01Speaker 1: I saw him like a year or two after I graduated. Like,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and he's a cool guy. And like, that was pretty
- 4:06Speaker 1: dope that that dude was just on his Instagram and
- 4:08Speaker 1: just scrolling and he was like oh shoot look at
- 4:10Speaker 1: this dude who like this is the kid i coached
- 4:12Speaker 1: for track and football like oh yeah like that's my
- 4:14Speaker 1: guy like that was pretty cool so to me i
- 4:16Speaker 1: was like that's where i want to focus my attention
- 4:19Speaker 1: with it and hopefully i can keep that attitude bro
- 4:21Speaker 1: because i think there's no way if you're going to
- 4:23Speaker 1: be sensitive with the social media stuff there's no way
- 4:26Speaker 1: you're going to like survive in this yeah there's no
- 4:29Speaker 1: way you know and that's the thing it's hard because
- 4:30Speaker 1: like they're two different worlds i used to look at
- 4:32Speaker 1: it like oh, if these people on social media think
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm not funny, then like, maybe like I'm not doing,
- 4:37Speaker 1: maybe I'm not good or whatever. And I'm just like,
- 4:40Speaker 1: these are not the same things. Someone watching a video
- 4:42Speaker 1: of something that already happened is not them watching. You
- 4:46Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 4:46Speaker 2: It's harder.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And it's no matter what you do, the video could
- 4:49Speaker 1: be good. The audio could be good. It still might
- 4:51Speaker 1: not have you know what it is like that.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Magic in the room, in the room, that vibe of
- 4:55Speaker 2: the room. Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: The thing you can't feel that thing that when you
- 4:57Speaker 1: watch your set later and you go like, Oh, I
- 4:59Speaker 1: felt like I killed way more than that. Like the last, like, cause,
- 5:02Speaker 1: but you can't replicate like the way the room feels
- 5:06Speaker 1: and the way that that room holds a laugh or whatever. Like,
- 5:08Speaker 1: You can't get that. You don't duplicate that.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You can't see the smiles from the back of the heads. Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Because it's like there are people that you can see
- 5:14Speaker 2: the excitement and the joy in their face or the
- 5:16Speaker 2: anticipation of like, where is he going? Like, oh, my God,
- 5:18Speaker 2: this is hilarious.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And so I'm trying to get I'm trying to just
- 5:21Speaker 1: lock into like that is the that is the experience.
- 5:23Speaker 1: And then this thing is a supplemental piece to what
- 5:27Speaker 1: I do. This isn't like this. It doesn't justify me
- 5:30Speaker 1: in any way. And the same way that if I
- 5:31Speaker 1: get a bunch of followers, it doesn't help me. It
- 5:33Speaker 1: doesn't change anything. I can still go bomb tomorrow. Like,
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like, I could still go
- 5:37Speaker 1: on some, I could still go up at some bar
- 5:39Speaker 1: show and have to eat shit on stage for 30
- 5:42Speaker 1: minutes for, like, a bunch of locals at a bar. Like,
- 5:44Speaker 1: it doesn't change. Just because you have 10,000 followers, you
- 5:48Speaker 1: have 100,000 followers, a million followers, it doesn't change that, like,
- 5:51Speaker 1: when you go on stage to do the thing you
- 5:52Speaker 1: really like, it could still, like, you know, that feeling of, like,
- 5:56Speaker 1: it could go either way. That's the excitement of getting
- 5:59Speaker 1: on stage is, like, you don't know how it's going
- 6:01Speaker 1: to go.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You don't. It is live. It is like, you know, you.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Might have a weird heckle. You might have like a
- 6:06Speaker 1: person who's just, you know, that person was not having
- 6:08Speaker 1: a good time. Arms like that guy in the front row.
- 6:10Speaker 1: They're like, you're killing and he hates you. And you're like,
- 6:13Speaker 1: why can't I win with this one guy? Like that
- 6:16Speaker 1: is like the that's the real sport of it. That's
- 6:18Speaker 1: the real like excitement of it. And then like the
- 6:20Speaker 1: social media thing is just like it is a piece.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I look at it like it's got to be like
- 6:25Speaker 1: if you're like an actor and you got to do
- 6:26Speaker 1: press and stuff like, yeah, you know, like you don't
- 6:29Speaker 1: wake up as an actor. I'm sure geeked up like
- 6:31Speaker 1: I can't wait to do this press run for this
- 6:32Speaker 1: Avengers movie. You know, like, yeah, you want to do
- 6:35Speaker 1: the cool thing where you got to pretend you were,
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know, like you got to act, you know, like
- 6:39Speaker 1: you did the movie already.
- 6:41Speaker 2: That was cool.
- 6:41Speaker 1: But now you got to do all this other stuff
- 6:42Speaker 1: that's part of that. It's part of the game.
- 6:44Speaker 2: So you can do it again. Exactly. Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 1: That's what I'm trying to like get my mind a
- 6:48Speaker 1: little more chill.
- 6:49Speaker 2: But it's been, yeah. It's a trip, though, because when
- 6:51Speaker 2: I first started doing stand-up, I didn't sign up for...
- 6:53Speaker 2: The stand-up has completely differently changed because of that aspect.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I didn't sign up for this. I signed up to
- 7:00Speaker 2: get to a special that was special. I didn't get
- 7:04Speaker 2: up to just do... Hopefully, I could do 15 minutes,
- 7:08Speaker 2: and I'm going to just kill with this five-second clip,
- 7:10Speaker 2: and then I'm just going to get 15 minutes, and
- 7:12Speaker 2: then I'm going to... Because that was the thing, too.
- 7:14Speaker 2: When I started realizing about comedy, I was like, oh...
- 7:18Speaker 2: They treat this like an entry-level position. Like, this is
- 7:20Speaker 2: what I want to do. Like, I love this. Like,
- 7:23Speaker 2: I don't look at this and be like, this is
- 7:24Speaker 2: my stepping stone to get to the movie or to
- 7:27Speaker 2: get to that. I was like, yo, that's all secondary.
- 7:29Speaker 2: That's a byproduct of me doing my passion. And I
- 7:32Speaker 2: was like, and I even hate the way I said passion,
- 7:34Speaker 2: but that's kind of what it is. Like, we've talked
- 7:36Speaker 2: about it before, too, with other comics, too. It's like, yo,
- 7:38Speaker 2: like that moment when you find that thing that you've
- 7:42Speaker 2: been trying to work at and now it works today.
- 7:44Speaker 2: And you're like, there it is. And that's what I
- 7:47Speaker 2: do it for. And then it's like after I did
- 7:48Speaker 2: with that, like I got to do it again. I
- 7:50Speaker 2: got to figure it out on another spot. But it's
- 7:52Speaker 2: just a great– it's a good thing. But like I
- 7:54Speaker 2: said too, now we signed up– the comedy has changed
- 7:57Speaker 2: to where, yeah, the social media is definitely an effect.
- 8:00Speaker 2: You do it. And I'm, like, trying to figure out
- 8:06Speaker 2: things that I don't mind doing consistently on social media
- 8:09Speaker 2: because it's, like, I'm not going to keep posting my
- 8:10Speaker 2: stand-up on there. You know, it's, like, so what else
- 8:13Speaker 2: do I want to do? And, like you said, I
- 8:15Speaker 2: feel hoed out, too, after a while. Like, oh, I
- 8:18Speaker 2: don't want to do challenges. I don't want to do
- 8:20Speaker 2: the trend. I'm not trying to dance on TikTok. And
- 8:23Speaker 2: some people are really good at, like.
- 8:24Speaker 1: The talking head thing where they're just, like, in their
- 8:26Speaker 1: car talking or they're, like, on a walk and they
- 8:28Speaker 1: just have a funny idea. And, like, maybe they don't
- 8:31Speaker 1: have a show that week to go try to– That's
- 8:33Speaker 1: the thing, too. You might. That's the problem, too, is
- 8:35Speaker 1: like when you do the talking to the camera thing,
- 8:37Speaker 1: just to the phone, you could just say whatever is
- 8:39Speaker 1: there is done. But if you do go take that
- 8:41Speaker 1: idea on stage, then you look at it, you go, ah, well,
- 8:44Speaker 1: it could be better. I could do this. And then
- 8:46Speaker 1: like the perfectionist and you start kicking in and you
- 8:48Speaker 1: keep trying to mess with it. I will say, like, yes,
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's it's tough, man. Finding like what am I comfortable
- 8:54Speaker 1: with on the social media thing?
- 8:55Speaker 2: What?
- 8:56Speaker 1: You know, what is working for me? You know, that's
- 8:59Speaker 1: the other part, too. Sometimes something works and you're like, shoot,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but I don't want to do that. Yeah, I don't
- 9:03Speaker 1: want to work. I think about it, too, with some
- 9:05Speaker 1: people I know who, like, either they pop off or, like, maybe, like,
- 9:08Speaker 1: they do sketches or something and a character pops.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And it's like, well, now you're, like, that character. Or, like,
- 9:13Speaker 1: if you have, like, a gimmick and now, like, you know, like, not, like,
- 9:16Speaker 1: in a bad way. I don't mean gimmick in a
- 9:17Speaker 1: bad way. But, like, if you're a wrestler, if you're
- 9:19Speaker 1: a wrestler. And you do a gimmick, and that becomes you.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You don't get to just be like, oh, I don't
- 9:23Speaker 1: want to be the guy who's– like, I don't want
- 9:25Speaker 1: to be the undertaker no more. It's like, no, no,
- 9:27Speaker 1: you're the dead guy, bro. That's your thing.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Put on the costume and shut the fuck up. Exactly.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Come out in the hat. Roll your eyes in the
- 9:34Speaker 1: back of the head. Like, this fat guy is going
- 9:36Speaker 1: to carry an urn around you. And even if you're
- 9:40Speaker 1: not like, oh, dude, I don't like– You don't get
- 9:44Speaker 1: to decide. When it's over, then maybe you get a
- 9:46Speaker 1: chance to rebrand, try again, do some different stuff. So
- 9:49Speaker 1: when I think about, like, people getting stuck into a gimmick,
- 9:51Speaker 1: I don't think even about it. Like, I literally think, like, oh,
- 9:53Speaker 1: if I was a wrestler and I popped for this one.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Thing, Mm-hmm.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Like, what the hell? Like, you're Yokozuna, dude. And, like,
- 10:00Speaker 1: that guy is not Japanese, bro. Dude is Samoa. And, like,
- 10:04Speaker 1: he had to be Japanese because this works. You know, like.
- 10:08Speaker 2: If it's a man who's like, still, I don't give
- 10:10Speaker 2: a fuck about Samoa.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Or, like, if you do impressions or something and then
- 10:13Speaker 1: you want to do, say you want to do a
- 10:14Speaker 1: shitload of impressions, but you pop doing, like, one impression.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Then you're out.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And now you're always doing that impression. Like, you got
- 10:20Speaker 1: to have some real gumption about you, like, to, like.
- 10:23Speaker 1: i'm gonna do these other ones even if they're not
- 10:25Speaker 1: hitting because i'm gonna show people i can do a
- 10:27Speaker 1: bunch of impressions i'm not just the guy who does
- 10:29Speaker 1: charles barkley yeah i can do a bunch of things
- 10:32Speaker 1: you know and it's hard dude because when something works
- 10:35Speaker 1: bro like the algo wants you to keep chucking it
- 10:38Speaker 1: out feeding it feeding that's what it wants you know
- 10:40Speaker 1: so yeah it's hard man when especially like you said
- 10:42Speaker 1: when that's not the main thing that's not what you
- 10:44Speaker 1: want to do and i think that's where some people
- 10:46Speaker 1: it's you know that shit starts sucking your soul bro
- 10:48Speaker 1: and it's like And then what happens when you do
- 10:49Speaker 1: get on stage? Are you still motivated the way you
- 10:52Speaker 1: used to be? Do you still care the way you
- 10:53Speaker 1: used to care?
- 10:54Speaker 2: It's hard. Or even it takes away from the writing process.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Now I'm like, I'm so focused on what's the next skit,
- 10:59Speaker 2: what's not the next bit. So it's like, it fucks
- 11:03Speaker 2: me up. It's so funny, you're talking right now too
- 11:05Speaker 2: about wrestlers and stuff, and I was like, oh, he's
- 11:07Speaker 2: of age? Because you're referencing Undertaker, Yokozuna, and shit like that.
- 11:11Speaker 2: That's hella funny. It's so funny because comics, I've noticed
- 11:15Speaker 2: that too about comics, they're hella into wrestling. Like, I
- 11:18Speaker 2: stopped watching wrestling, but, like, I'm not, I don't mind
- 11:22Speaker 2: or anything like that, but, like, it got too much. Like,
- 11:25Speaker 2: it got, like, I couldn't pay attention to everything now.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So, I just got back into wrestling. So, like, I
- 11:31Speaker 1: grew up watching wrestling as.
- 11:33Speaker 2: A kid, right?
- 11:34Speaker 1: WWF before it became WWE, WCW. And I was, like,
- 11:38Speaker 1: a kid. So, I was born in 87, like, growing
- 11:40Speaker 1: up in the 90s. Like, my pops was a young guy.
- 11:42Speaker 1: My dad had me when I was 18, so. He was, like,
- 11:44Speaker 1: into wrestling. He let me watch wrestling. And I just
- 11:47Speaker 1: was always watching wrestling all the way probably until, like,
- 11:49Speaker 1: when I got to high school. And then I stopped watching. Like, whenever, like,
- 11:52Speaker 1: John Cena kind of popped off, I kind of was
- 11:54Speaker 1: done already. So I didn't know what was going on
- 11:57Speaker 1: for a while. And then I was, like, in grad school,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and I was living in Wisconsin. I was living in
- 12:02Speaker 1: Milwaukee for, like, a summer.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 12:04Speaker 1: And there was a SummerSlam was in Chicago. So they
- 12:07Speaker 1: did a house show in Milwaukee like two days before.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And I, and it was the first time I'm like,
- 12:11Speaker 1: I grew up now with money. I have money now.
- 12:13Speaker 1: And then I was like, I'm gonna buy a front
- 12:14Speaker 1: row tickets. I got like front row tickets. I went
- 12:17Speaker 1: to this show that was not televised. It's a dark,
- 12:19Speaker 1: like a high dark house show. And I watched like
- 12:21Speaker 1: all these wrestlers basically run the matches the day before
- 12:24Speaker 1: two days before I'm watching all these, all these wrestlers.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm like, I kind of grew up watching. I'm like, well,
- 12:28Speaker 1: this is pretty dope. And I thought it was cool
- 12:30Speaker 1: to go. And then I was done. Like I didn't
- 12:31Speaker 1: get back into wrestling. And then I was, uh, my
- 12:35Speaker 1: girlfriend who I've been dating for a couple of years now,
- 12:37Speaker 1: we were, she lives in Arizona. We were taking a
- 12:39Speaker 1: ride back to Arizona last year around the holidays. And, uh,
- 12:42Speaker 1: we were just talking about, you know, it's five and
- 12:44Speaker 1: a half hours. We're just talking about life. And I
- 12:45Speaker 1: was talking about, you know, as a kid, I was
- 12:47Speaker 1: so into wrestling. I loved wrestling. And she was like, Oh,
- 12:49Speaker 1: that's pretty cool. And then she's Mexican. So I was like,
- 12:50Speaker 1: I was like, did you ever get into like, like
- 12:53Speaker 1: growing up? Like in Tijuana, did you like Lucha stuff?
- 12:55Speaker 1: And she was like, not really, but like, it's, it's,
- 12:57Speaker 1: it's interesting. And I was like, yeah, I would, I
- 12:59Speaker 1: would be down to like, I would love to go
- 13:00Speaker 1: to like raw or SmackDown or something. And she was like, Oh,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I would totally go. And I was like, nah, no way.
- 13:06Speaker 1: And she was like, I swear to God, I would go.
- 13:07Speaker 1: That sounds fun. So, dude, I literally, on the car ride,
- 13:10Speaker 1: I looked at my phone and Raw, or no, no,
- 13:13Speaker 1: SmackDown was coming to Phoenix in, like, literally a week
- 13:17Speaker 1: after that conversation. So I bought tickets. We went to SmackDown.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Had the most fun at the live event. Like, had
- 13:23Speaker 1: the most fun at SmackDown.
- 13:25Speaker 2: And we were, like, into it.
- 13:26Speaker 1: But we didn't really know much about what was going on.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I'm piecing it together. Then I saw it. TikTok, my
- 13:30Speaker 1: algorithm started being all these wrestling dudes, like, wrestling commentators
- 13:34Speaker 1: talking about, like, reaction videos.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So I would keep up like that, and I would
- 13:37Speaker 1: know just enough now that if I had to watch it,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I at least.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Knew who the players were. Yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And so, dude, literally, like, a year went by. Almost, like,
- 13:45Speaker 1: six months went by. Then Raw came to Phoenix. We
- 13:49Speaker 1: went to Raw. And, like, and then, dude, to the
- 13:51Speaker 1: point where two or three weekends ago, we were watching,
- 13:53Speaker 1: because WWE now owns the Mexican company, AAA. They own
- 13:58Speaker 1: that now. So we were watching on YouTube like a AAA,
- 14:03Speaker 1: like a pay-per-view, basically, on YouTube. And we were watching
- 14:07Speaker 1: it live and dialed in. We had a guy we
- 14:09Speaker 1: were cheering for, dude. And it was so much fun. So, yeah,
- 14:13Speaker 1: getting back into wrestling, I have noticed, though, that there's
- 14:15Speaker 1: a lot of comics that they've been into it. They're
- 14:18Speaker 1: still into it. They're, like, deep in the wrestling game.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, they're deep into it. He used to be my roommate,
- 14:25Speaker 2: Chris Tinkle. They went– and, and, and in Vegas they
- 14:30Speaker 2: have the, the, the, the WrestleMania and he's always there.
- 14:33Speaker 2: He's always there. And I was like, dude, I totally
- 14:35Speaker 2: lost track of it all. And cause like, like I
- 14:37Speaker 2: think I stopped watching, I don't know. I can't, I
- 14:39Speaker 2: probably was like, I want to say like 94, 95.
- 14:43Speaker 2: And it was like, I remember like survivor series and
- 14:45Speaker 2: all that stuff and the Royal rumble. And, um, but like, I, I,
- 14:49Speaker 2: I just like, it got too much. Cause like fools
- 14:51Speaker 2: were jumping sides and I was like, who's good now
- 14:53Speaker 2: and who's bad now. And I was like, yeah, you
- 14:55Speaker 2: know what?
- 14:55Speaker 1: I'm, And that was peak time where guys would leave
- 14:58Speaker 1: one company, go to the other company.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah, go to WCW.
- 15:00Speaker 1: They'd have to change their name and stuff because they
- 15:02Speaker 1: didn't own, like, you know, like Scott Hall doesn't own
- 15:05Speaker 1: the Razor Ramon name.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 1: So he can't go be Razor Ramon. He's got to
- 15:08Speaker 1: be somebody else. And, yeah, dude, I, man, that was
- 15:12Speaker 1: my childhood, dude, begging my parents to, like, you had
- 15:14Speaker 1: to call on pay-per-view. You had to order it. You
- 15:16Speaker 1: had to call the phone, and then they would turn
- 15:18Speaker 1: it on on your TV. Like, I used to be like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I remember as a kid I would ask my dad, like,
- 15:23Speaker 1: you know, you don't have to buy me a birthday present. Like,
- 15:27Speaker 1: can you please get us this pay-per-view? Like, we need
- 15:30Speaker 1: to watch. There was nothing more, like, lame than going
- 15:32Speaker 1: to school the next day and not knowing. And then
- 15:35Speaker 1: I had a lot of homies that, like, their parents had, like,
- 15:38Speaker 1: They had the black box, so they was watching.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Remember that.
- 15:40Speaker 1: They was stealing cable.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Yep, remember that.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And my dad's over here being an upstanding citizen, so
- 15:44Speaker 1: he's not stealing cable. And so, like, you know, I
- 15:46Speaker 1: got to beg him to pay money so I can
- 15:48Speaker 1: see what's going on.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So me and my brother, man, oh, man, so many
- 15:52Speaker 1: injuries of us, like, trying to wrestle each other in
- 15:54Speaker 1: the house, trying to do moves on each other. My
- 15:57Speaker 1: dad come home, my brother's neck's all weird. He's like,
- 15:59Speaker 1: what the hell were you doing? I was like, I
- 16:01Speaker 1: was trying to give him the pile driver.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I was trying to hit him with the razor's edge, doc. Yeah, dude.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I was locked in on it, but now it's been funny.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Like I, I look at wrestling, I think through like
- 16:11Speaker 1: a comic lens, like almost like how, like, just like, just,
- 16:13Speaker 1: I look at it like art. Like to me, that's
- 16:15Speaker 1: what it is. Like I look at it like the writing.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:17Speaker 1: You know, like the writing, like I said, like the
- 16:19Speaker 1: gimmick thing, like I brought that up. Cause there was, um,
- 16:22Speaker 1: so there was a dude, uh, not the, I won't,
- 16:25Speaker 1: it won't be one, but Chad Gable, the wrestler, kind
- 16:27Speaker 1: of like a Kurt Angle type, real wrestler guy. He, uh,
- 16:30Speaker 1: he got hurt. He, he, they had a gimmick where
- 16:32Speaker 1: he was pretending to be a luchador. So he was
- 16:35Speaker 1: called El Grande Americano. But he didn't speak English. He
- 16:40Speaker 1: didn't speak Spanish. He only spoke English. But he was
- 16:43Speaker 1: acting like a luchador. But he was super like, oh,
- 16:46Speaker 1: like American. America, everything was America. El Grande Americano. He
- 16:49Speaker 1: would say he's from the Gulf of America. It was
- 16:51Speaker 1: like a troll thing, right? And then he, during that
- 16:54Speaker 1: run of being El Grande Americano, got hurt for real.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And so the gimmick and the character was rolling. So
- 17:00Speaker 1: they had this other guy take over as El Grande Americano.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Except Chad Gable's, like, short. Like, five-something. And this other
- 17:07Speaker 1: dude who takes over, Kaiser Ludwig, is like... He's a
- 17:10Speaker 1: German dude who's, like, 6'2. So he's tall. So now
- 17:13Speaker 1: El Grande Americano is this tall, skinny guy. But this dude,
- 17:17Speaker 1: he speaks Spanish. He learned all about Mexican culture. And
- 17:21Speaker 1: so he turned the El Grande Americano character into... into
- 17:24Speaker 1: like a baby face down in Mexico and they love him.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And he's become this like superstar where, so you got
- 17:32Speaker 1: to think like, think about how funny the gimmick is.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's an American guy. Pretending to be a Mexican luchador.
- 17:38Speaker 1: And then you've got a German guy pretending to be
- 17:41Speaker 1: an American guy pretending to be a Mexican luchador. It's
- 17:46Speaker 1: like Tropic Thunder type shit. I'm the dude playing the
- 17:49Speaker 1: dude playing another dude. So the match we watched a
- 17:53Speaker 1: couple weeks ago, it was a mask versus mask. So
- 17:55Speaker 1: whoever lost had to take off the mask. It would
- 17:57Speaker 1: be the real El Grande Americano. Me and my girl
- 18:01Speaker 1: watched this on YouTube. It was like a 45-minute fight.
- 18:03Speaker 1: We watched it live. And I'm talking about we were
- 18:06Speaker 1: fully invested. Every time it was almost a pin, we
- 18:09Speaker 1: were like, no. And then when El Grande Americano, the
- 18:12Speaker 1: real one, the tall one, the one who's puro Mexicano.
- 18:15Speaker 1: That dude, he learned slang. Dude, he comes out with
- 18:19Speaker 1: a mariachi band. They do the national anthem. He throws
- 18:22Speaker 1: the arm up. Dude, and to me, I'm watching it going,
- 18:26Speaker 1: this guy... is all the way in on the game.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You know what I mean? But I look at it, too.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Sometimes people look at a comic who maybe blows off
- 18:34Speaker 1: crowd work, and they keep doing crowd work, and they go, oh,
- 18:36Speaker 1: this guy with the crowd work. It's like, bro, imagine
- 18:38Speaker 1: you've been fighting for your life for 15, 20 years
- 18:41Speaker 1: of the stand-up, and then this crowd work stuff you
- 18:43Speaker 1: do pops. And now I got mad fans, and I tour. What,
- 18:47Speaker 1: I'm just supposed to just not do crowd work anymore
- 18:49Speaker 1: and post clips because you think it's hack or you
- 18:51Speaker 1: don't like it? Like, bro, these guys got to eat.
- 18:54Speaker 1: If this dude doesn't lean into the Grande Americano thing,
- 18:57Speaker 1: He's never going to be that big as the German
- 18:59Speaker 1: guy he was before. That guy is never going to
- 19:02Speaker 1: be the guy. But now he's got this chance with
- 19:05Speaker 1: this character and this gimmick. And I just think it's
- 19:07Speaker 1: cool that he's like, you know what? I'm going to
- 19:08Speaker 1: make the most of it and squeeze everything out of
- 19:11Speaker 1: the orange I can. I'm going to get whatever I can. So, yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I'll be watching the wrestling stuff just looking at it like, man,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I look at it from this lens of storytelling.
- 19:20Speaker 2: And all that. Who was your favorite back in the day?
- 19:22Speaker 1: Back in the day, man, I was like– sean michaels
- 19:28Speaker 1: i like stone cold the rock was my guy oh
- 19:30Speaker 1: the rock i like the rock cutting promos oh the
- 19:33Speaker 1: rock used to just like somebody would start talking it
- 19:35Speaker 1: doesn't matter like the rock he was just so good
- 19:39Speaker 1: at like the promos he would kill me and uh
- 19:41Speaker 1: i just like i like the talking aspect of it
- 19:43Speaker 1: how old are you i'm 38 I'm 39, yeah, I'm
- 19:46Speaker 1: 39 in October.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Yeah, because that was funny, because when you said The
- 19:50Speaker 2: Rock and stuff like that, I remember when I got
- 19:53Speaker 2: back into stand-up around 2008, because I stopped for like six,
- 19:56Speaker 2: seven years, and all the comics were, and they were
- 19:59Speaker 2: talking about The Rock, they were like, oh, The Rock
- 20:01Speaker 2: is the greatest, because they go, his promos, they go like,
- 20:03Speaker 2: the writing is just so funny, like it's just hilarious,
- 20:06Speaker 2: his His digs and his comebacks. And I was like, oh,
- 20:09Speaker 2: that's so funny. I was a big fan of Ultimate Warrior. Yeah.
- 20:13Speaker 2: And then Brett the Hitman. I really like Brett the
- 20:18Speaker 2: Hitman because he's a Raider fan. So it was like
- 20:20Speaker 2: I would catch him at Raider games. Like, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 2: it was like, oh, yeah, yeah. So he still goes. Well,
- 20:25Speaker 2: not anymore. That was in Oakland. I don't know if
- 20:27Speaker 2: he goes to the Vegas ones. But, yeah, man, I've
- 20:29Speaker 2: watched some of those documentaries, too. And I'd be like,
- 20:31Speaker 2: it'd be mad sad, though.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 1: That lifestyle. That lifestyle is crazy. I mean, these guys
- 20:36Speaker 1: now are reaping the benefits, you know. I'm sure it's
- 20:38Speaker 1: the way. And like I said, like, I just look
- 20:40Speaker 1: at it from, like, I'm sure it's the way old athletes,
- 20:42Speaker 1: old comics, like, the way they look at, like, the
- 20:45Speaker 1: money that's involved now when you really pop.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Like, the way you don't gotta grind, air quotes, grind,
- 20:51Speaker 1: the way that they had to.
- 20:53Speaker 2: So they look.
- 20:53Speaker 1: At it like, oh, these guys, they only gotta, you know, like,
- 20:56Speaker 1: wrestlers back in the day used to wrestle 300 days
- 20:59Speaker 1: a year.
- 20:59Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 21:00Speaker 1: Like, they would, you know, like, there's the famous story
- 21:02Speaker 1: of Hulk Hogan, like, lying about how he would, like,
- 21:04Speaker 1: fight twice in one day or three times in one day, technically,
- 21:07Speaker 1: because he would fight this one fight in Japan, and
- 21:09Speaker 1: then he would fly all the way to, like, America. And, like,
- 21:11Speaker 1: it's like, brother, time doesn't work like that.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Like, you're ridiculous.
- 21:13Speaker 1: But, like, these guys used to fight, like, all the
- 21:16Speaker 1: time through injuries, you know, shooting up to get through
- 21:19Speaker 1: pain and all this other stuff. And the guys now, like,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you know, they wrestle on, you know, they fight on
- 21:23Speaker 1: Monday on raw and then they have like the week
- 21:25Speaker 1: off to chill kind of, and they work out and
- 21:27Speaker 1: then they go to a pit, you know, they don't work.
- 21:29Speaker 1: They don't work the same.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 1: But you know, I think it's a different game now
- 21:33Speaker 1: with like, you know, where, what they can do, what
- 21:36Speaker 1: they can like back in the day, you could be
- 21:37Speaker 1: like Hulk Hogan and macho man.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And you could go to Des Moines, Iowa and you
- 21:41Speaker 1: could leave the motel for the night and go get
- 21:44Speaker 1: just shit faced at a bar and get into a
- 21:46Speaker 1: bar fight as Hulk Hogan, and there's no phones with
- 21:49Speaker 1: cameras on them to prove it ever happened. You know
- 21:51Speaker 1: how many stories have to be like that? There's some
- 21:53Speaker 1: dudes like, yo, I saw the Ultimate Warrior without his
- 21:55Speaker 1: face paint. I whooped his ass, dude. And you're just like, yeah, okay, brother.
- 22:00Speaker 1: And who knows? Maybe some guy did put hands on
- 22:02Speaker 1: a drunk Ultimate Warrior.
- 22:04Speaker 2: That could have happened.
- 22:05Speaker 1: But you'll never know.
- 22:06Speaker 2: There's no documentation.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Dude, Wenbin Yama got hit with an egg in the
- 22:09Speaker 1: head last night. And it was on the internet last night.
- 22:13Speaker 1: He can't pretend it didn't happen. They threw an egg
- 22:15Speaker 1: at Wenbin Yama. Hit him in the head.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I used to do this bit about how I wouldn't
- 22:20Speaker 2: want to be a kid in high school now. Because
- 22:21Speaker 2: if you get your ass whooped, they would just talk
- 22:24Speaker 2: about it the next day at lunch. And maybe by
- 22:27Speaker 2: the end of the year, they'd be like, oh yeah,
- 22:28Speaker 2: what's your name? Fought that one for that time. No,
- 22:30Speaker 2: it's recorded, doggy. It's there all the time. Your ass
- 22:33Speaker 2: whooping will be right on repeat.
- 22:34Speaker 1: The way the fight would evolve over time... Dude, the
- 22:38Speaker 1: fight would evolve over time. Like, it'd be like, yeah,
- 22:41Speaker 1: these two girls were fighting in the hallway. You remember
- 22:43Speaker 1: Ronda pulled a curling iron out her bag and busted
- 22:45Speaker 1: the other girl's head open. She was bleeding everywhere. No
- 22:48Speaker 1: one bled. But, like, the story could just get crazy
- 22:50Speaker 1: because there's no proof. Now some kid would be like, nah,
- 22:52Speaker 1: if you look right here, she really choked her out
- 22:55Speaker 1: pretty clean.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Dude, the first times, like, I started realizing that was, like,
- 22:59Speaker 2: when I was talking about how, like, when I would
- 23:01Speaker 2: retell the fight, Like, that was my time to be
- 23:04Speaker 2: a comic, where I was like, yo, like, hey, then
- 23:06Speaker 2: all of a sudden, hey, dude, you ever see the,
- 23:09Speaker 2: when the da-da-da, and then before you know it, like,
- 23:10Speaker 2: everyone's more laughing at the story now than the fight, actually,
- 23:14Speaker 2: because I'm having fun with it. Like, what you call it? Yeah, yeah,
- 23:16Speaker 2: it was some, it was, the retelling of a fight
- 23:18Speaker 2: was the best, but now it's like, that's gone, because, like, yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 2: the phone is there.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Like, yeah, people want to know, well, for real, what, like,
- 23:25Speaker 1: they want, like, they want to see it. Like, I
- 23:27Speaker 1: need to, like.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but more to your point, too, about, like, the old-timers, like,
- 23:31Speaker 2: with the, like, the thing, like, even... Like you said,
- 23:33Speaker 2: even in sports as well, like, you know, LeBron taking
- 23:36Speaker 2: days off and all these old heads are like, yo,
- 23:38Speaker 2: Michael Jordan did a flu game, doggy. Like, how are
- 23:40Speaker 2: you going to take a day off? Like, you ain't even,
- 23:42Speaker 2: you're not nice like that. But it's like, you know,
- 23:45Speaker 2: and I feel personally for me, I feel the game
- 23:48Speaker 2: is changing. And the problem with that, though, that I
- 23:50Speaker 2: have is that the game is getting less and less better. Like,
- 23:56Speaker 2: I don't feel like, I don't see like any of
- 23:57Speaker 2: the games getting better, like, And I don't want to
- 24:00Speaker 2: be that old head who was like, oh, back in
- 24:01Speaker 2: my day, we had a really good da-da-da. But the
- 24:04Speaker 2: proof is in the pudding. Like, on one thing, I
- 24:08Speaker 2: always talk about how Eddie Murphy's raw and delirious and,
- 24:11Speaker 2: you know, John Leguizamo's freak. I mean, it's a one-man show,
- 24:14Speaker 2: but still, like, it's 90 minutes long and it's amazing.
- 24:16Speaker 1: One of my favorite things I've ever watched in my life.
- 24:18Speaker 1: It's amazing. It's such a great show. Personally, I think
- 24:21Speaker 1: criminally underrated.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Dude, it's so underrated.
- 24:22Speaker 1: John Leguizamo freak. It's criminally underrated. That's another one of
- 24:26Speaker 1: those things where, like, I was young and I remember
- 24:27Speaker 1: my dad had HBO, and when I watched that, There
- 24:30Speaker 1: was a couple of things. I watched Dave Chappelle killing himself.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And when I watched John Leguizamo freak, I was like.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Yo, this dude is amazing.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Criminally underrated.
- 24:40Speaker 2: And it's like, everyone, like I said, I always said
- 24:42Speaker 2: to stipulate, I was like, I know it's a one-man show,
- 24:44Speaker 2: but it's just, it doesn't matter. That shit is just
- 24:46Speaker 2: so good. And I remember one time I had a roommate,
- 24:51Speaker 2: he was a comic, he was a younger comic, and
- 24:52Speaker 2: then he was telling me all his inspirations and all
- 24:54Speaker 2: his comics that he liked. I was like, they're garbage.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Everyone you liked is garbage. I was like, I go, da-da-da-da,
- 24:59Speaker 2: and I said, John Lewis. He's like, John Lewis was
- 25:00Speaker 2: on when it was comedy? I go, fucking John Lewis.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I was like, hold on. I was like, you've never
- 25:04Speaker 2: seen The Freak? He's like, no. So we put it on,
- 25:05Speaker 2: and then we watched it all, and he was like,
- 25:07Speaker 2: that was amazing. I go, that's 90 minutes, dog. Like,
- 25:10Speaker 2: the things that I watched that inspired me to be
- 25:12Speaker 2: a comedian made me time travel. Like, that's how good
- 25:15Speaker 2: it was. Like, I didn't know. Like, the last joke
- 25:17Speaker 2: was said. I'm like, what? It's over already? That was
- 25:20Speaker 2: an hour? And I go, but now, like we said,
- 25:21Speaker 2: the game is so saturated and watered down that, like,
- 25:25Speaker 2: The proof is in the pudding right when you see
- 25:26Speaker 2: what their special is. I've seen a lot of specials
- 25:29Speaker 2: where I'm like, I look at my watch now. I'm
- 25:31Speaker 2: not time traveling. I'm like, yo, there's 40 minutes left.
- 25:33Speaker 2: We're 20 minutes in? Dog, this is different. It's crazy.
- 25:36Speaker 2: But it is what it is. And all I could
- 25:39Speaker 2: do is just still, like you said too, just be you.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Just keep doing you.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you just got to keep on figuring and just
- 25:44Speaker 1: keep on chipping away at this stuff. I will say
- 25:46Speaker 1: the one thing recently that changed a little bit for me.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I think one of the reasons I've been posting clips...
- 25:51Speaker 1: lately and it's been like there's like crowd interaction stuff
- 25:54Speaker 1: here and there kind of like throw away stuff i'm
- 25:55Speaker 1: like whatever if this doesn't even go i don't care
- 25:57Speaker 1: i'm just doing it to feed the beast but when
- 26:00Speaker 1: i watched some of the kevin hart show that came
- 26:03Speaker 1: out on netflix oh the funny af and i realized
- 26:06Speaker 1: that a lot of the folks on that show some
- 26:08Speaker 1: who i know and i like them as comics like
- 26:11Speaker 1: a lot of the stuff they were doing were things
- 26:13Speaker 1: jokes they had already posted before things that were in
- 26:16Speaker 1: like a don't tell set. And I was just like, oh,
- 26:19Speaker 1: like it really don't matter no more. Like the whole
- 26:21Speaker 1: thing about burning your material.
- 26:22Speaker 2: It doesn't even matter.
- 26:23Speaker 1: It doesn't really matter. Like you're going to keep evolving
- 26:25Speaker 1: the thing anyways. It's kind of going to change. You
- 26:27Speaker 1: can repost the same joke in four months and it'll
- 26:29Speaker 1: go again. And a bunch of people who didn't see
- 26:31Speaker 1: it the first.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Time are going to see it.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And I used to be so against it. The only
- 26:35Speaker 1: way I'm going to be able to post clips is
- 26:36Speaker 1: if I do crowd work. And I don't do crowd work.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I get on stage to do my act, right? Now,
- 26:41Speaker 1: if something happens and me and a person have a
- 26:43Speaker 1: genuine interaction or conversation, I'm cool with that because I'm
- 26:47Speaker 1: always doing that. to steer myself back to what i'm
- 26:50Speaker 1: doing anyways yeah like i'm not doing that because like
- 26:52Speaker 1: i need i know i need a way to get
- 26:54Speaker 1: to it yeah i'm not a what do you do
- 26:56Speaker 1: for work type of guy like i might ask hey
- 26:58Speaker 1: does anybody have kids oh how many kids do you
- 26:59Speaker 1: have like because i'm interested because i'm gonna tell a
- 27:01Speaker 1: joke about how i don't have kids yeah and i've
- 27:03Speaker 1: been thinking about kids more and so i'm really just
- 27:06Speaker 1: engaging with you because i'm curious because like you're a
- 27:08Speaker 1: person who has a thing i don't have and i
- 27:09Speaker 1: want to talk to you yeah just as a bridge
- 27:11Speaker 1: maybe right but I'm not doing crowd work intentionally. Like
- 27:14Speaker 1: I'm not going up and wasting an eight minute, 10
- 27:16Speaker 1: minute set on like a random show that I'm doing,
- 27:18Speaker 1: like working some stuff out to just be like, Oh,
- 27:20Speaker 1: what do you do for work? Like I'm not doing that.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:22Speaker 1: So I used to think that was the only way
- 27:23Speaker 1: you could do the clips though. It had to be
- 27:25Speaker 1: crowd work. And now I'm just like, kind of after
- 27:28Speaker 1: seeing some of these guys that like you realize, and
- 27:30Speaker 1: sure there's people who go back to an old clip
- 27:31Speaker 1: from like somebody and go, yo, he did this joke
- 27:33Speaker 1: four years ago. And you're like, yeah, you know, it's
- 27:35Speaker 1: crazy before he posted that joke four years ago, he
- 27:37Speaker 1: did that joke for three years before that.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 1: And he was figuring it out. Like, and guess what?
- 27:42Speaker 1: He's still funny. It's still funny. And that's why I
- 27:44Speaker 1: had to get over the whole you got to burn
- 27:46Speaker 1: it thing. I'm like, whatever, bro.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 27:48Speaker 1: And you know what? All the time I spend wasting
- 27:51Speaker 1: not posting a clip or a bit or whatever because
- 27:53Speaker 1: I'm worried about someone's going to see it is just
- 27:55Speaker 1: time that the thing I was hoping for didn't happen yet.
- 27:58Speaker 1: So if I just lock in and if I just go,
- 28:01Speaker 1: we'll see where it lands. And maybe someday I'll look
- 28:03Speaker 1: back and go. I should not have posted all that shit.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I did it wrong. But I don't know, bro. All
- 28:09Speaker 1: I know is the way I was trying to get followers,
- 28:11Speaker 1: the way I was trying to get views, that shit
- 28:13Speaker 1: was not working. So if this don't work, cool. But
- 28:16Speaker 1: I got to do something. And so seeing those guys
- 28:19Speaker 1: do material that maybe, well, obviously they trust it because
- 28:22Speaker 1: they're trying to win the competition, right? But also that
- 28:25Speaker 1: no one's been holding it against them. Like, oh, this
- 28:27Speaker 1: dude did some old joke from, nah, this dude did
- 28:31Speaker 1: a banger because he's trying to get a Netflix special.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Another one. Okay, okay. No, and more to your point, too,
- 28:37Speaker 2: it's funny because, like, I had a bit that went
- 28:40Speaker 2: viral and they were like, people were like, oh, you
- 28:43Speaker 2: stole this from Chris Rock. And then I was like,
- 28:45Speaker 2: I go, this joke that I supposedly stole from Chris Rock,
- 28:48Speaker 2: they recorded this two years before his special came out.
- 28:52Speaker 2: So this is already– because I didn't post the joke
- 28:54Speaker 2: that went viral. It's another Laugh After Dark did. And
- 28:58Speaker 2: I was like, they recorded this other thing like two
- 28:59Speaker 2: years prior to that special. And I go, before that,
- 29:01Speaker 2: like you said too, I go, I wrote that joke
- 29:03Speaker 2: 15 years ago. And then I posted the YouTube clip,
- 29:07Speaker 2: and it has a timestamp of me because I just
- 29:09Speaker 2: have it. And it's me saying the joke at an
- 29:12Speaker 2: open mic. And then they wrote underneath it, well, why
- 29:15Speaker 2: the fuck are you doing it for 15 years still later?
- 29:17Speaker 2: And I'm like, because you've just seen it. Like, that's. Facts. Yeah, yeah. And. Oh, fuck.
- 29:23Speaker 2: There was something else, too, that you said.
- 29:24Speaker 1: That I was like, oh, no, no, no.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Fuck, I ADD'd out. But what you got? I'm sorry.
- 29:28Speaker 2: So we're going to get to the second part. Second
- 29:29Speaker 2: part of the podcast. We're going to do trivia. And
- 29:33Speaker 2: just to fuck around, break up monotony and stuff like
- 29:35Speaker 2: that and so Nikki's gonna help us out with that
- 29:37Speaker 2: cause she comes up with all the questions.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I wanna be very clear I am bad at trivia
- 29:42Speaker 1: so I'm excited to do this cause I'm garbage at
- 29:44Speaker 1: this I'll be at Chili's with my girl I'll be
- 29:46Speaker 1: trying to like I'll pay for the trivia on the
- 29:48Speaker 1: little iPad joint and I'll be like yeah I'm gonna
- 29:50Speaker 1: compete with this guy from Torrance, California today.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah it's embarrassing I like those things those things are
- 29:55Speaker 2: fun go ahead Nick alright.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Cool so.
- 30:00Speaker 4: We're going to start off with kind of like an animal.
- 30:05Speaker 2: All right.
- 30:06Speaker 3: The unicorn is the national animal of what country?
- 30:09Speaker 2: Oh, I know this one, though, because I've seen this before,
- 30:12Speaker 2: and so I know it.
- 30:14Speaker 1: There's a country that has the unicorn.
- 30:16Speaker 2: As their national animal. That's so funny.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Is there a whimsical country? They're like whimsical?
- 30:24Speaker 3: They're whimsical.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Bro.
- 30:26Speaker 3: But they're not a whimsical country, I wouldn't say. No.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Okay.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I don't have any. I'm going to go Finland.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Close. It's up north in northern Europe. Yeah. Very close.
- 30:38Speaker 3: It's Scotland.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Really? Scotland, yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Scotland.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Wow. You know what's funny? I was talking with another,
- 30:45Speaker 2: because I did this question with another comic, and I go,
- 30:47Speaker 2: I don't know if Scotland got cooler. I think it
- 30:50Speaker 2: got cooler.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Hell yeah.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Because it's like, yeah, they're like... I feel like they're
- 30:54Speaker 2: trying to clean up there. The PR person was like, yo,
- 30:56Speaker 2: we need to check.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I would not have guessed Scotland.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 1: But I was just, I was, see, guessing Finland was
- 31:01Speaker 1: just because I was like, maybe it's a country that's
- 31:03Speaker 1: like kind of blah.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Like on paper. But like, they like, you know, they're
- 31:07Speaker 1: trying to rebrand.
- 31:08Speaker 2: What the hell does Finland do? It's like, I don't know.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I don't know. We don't know what we do.
- 31:11Speaker 3: They fish a lot.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Listen, the World Cup's going right now, so I'll name
- 31:15Speaker 1: a bunch of countries.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I'm ready.
- 31:16Speaker 1: There you go.
- 31:17Speaker 2: All right.
- 31:17Speaker 3: We're going to go into more of the science category.
- 31:20Speaker 4: What percentage of the universe is made of dark matter
- 31:23Speaker 4: and dark energy?
- 31:26Speaker 1: What percentage of the universe?
- 31:31Speaker 3: Are you Googling, Carlos?
- 31:32Speaker 2: No, Ernst is hitting me right now.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Classic Ernst.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Shout out to Brett. He's the reason I moved to California.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Oh, yeah?
- 31:40Speaker 3: No kidding.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I did a show with him when I was like
- 31:42Speaker 1: an open mic-er kind of still before I moved to
- 31:44Speaker 1: California at Comics Mohegan Sun. And I was a year
- 31:48Speaker 1: into comedy, and I opened a show he popped in on,
- 31:51Speaker 1: and he made the host give fake credits for him,
- 31:53Speaker 1: which was funny. And then when I got off stage,
- 31:56Speaker 1: he goes, how long have you been doing comedy? I
- 31:57Speaker 1: was like, a year. You're not bad. And he's like,
- 32:00Speaker 1: you know, you don't have to stay in Rhode Island
- 32:01Speaker 1: for your whole life.
- 32:02Speaker 2: You can leave.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah. I told him what my
- 32:04Speaker 1: job was, my day job. He's like, you can do
- 32:05Speaker 1: that anywhere. He's like, get as close to New York
- 32:07Speaker 1: or L.A. as possible and then just build from there.
- 32:09Speaker 1: So I moved to California because of Bretters. Shout out
- 32:14Speaker 1: to Brass, my guy. Also, he would let me hang
- 32:16Speaker 1: in green rooms I shouldn't be in and make people
- 32:18Speaker 1: take pictures of me when I wasn't even on the show. Like,
- 32:20Speaker 1: he's just a good dude. I'm going to say 93%
- 32:22Speaker 1: of the universe is dark matter.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Carlos, you got an answer?
- 32:28Speaker 1: Universe is big, dog.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I'm going to say 87 for the year he was born. Oh, dang.
- 32:32Speaker 2: That's not good.
- 32:34Speaker 3: But I'm going to give it to Rui because it's 96. Oh, nice.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Nice.
- 32:38Speaker 1: That's his fucking pool.
- 32:39Speaker 3: That's hardcore.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Nice.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Oddly enough, kind of keeping in the science category, what
- 32:44Speaker 4: notable astronomer penned the 1980 best-selling book Cosmos?
- 32:50Speaker 2: Oh, I know. I think I do.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Shoot, I don't.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I'm going to go L. Ron Hubbard.
- 32:56Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 32:56Speaker 2: Oh, maybe not. Shoot.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I don't even know, but I was going to say
- 33:00Speaker 1: Neil deGrasse Tyson.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Both good guesses. It's Carl Sagan.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Oh, Carl Sagan. Okay.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Neil's the only, that's the only science guy I know
- 33:08Speaker 1: besides Bill Nye.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Bill Nye.
- 33:10Speaker 1: He's a space one, you know.
- 33:11Speaker 2: What I mean?
- 33:11Speaker 4: All right, this one is kind of going into culinary arts.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Okay.
- 33:18Speaker 3: How many folds are in a chef's hat?
- 33:21Speaker 2: Oh, that's a good question. That's a good question. I'm
- 33:27Speaker 2: thinking of the chef in Muppets. The Swedish chef. I'm
- 33:36Speaker 2: going to go with eight.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I'm going to say four folds.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Okay.
- 33:46Speaker 2: All right.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Well, it's a hundred.
- 33:48Speaker 1: What?
- 33:50Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I yelled right into the mic. It's a hundred.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I yelled too.
- 33:54Speaker 1: It's chef.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Remember the folds? They go up. It's vertical.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Oh, because it goes like.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I'm over here thinking it goes... I don't know nothing
- 34:03Speaker 1: about chef's hats, bro.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Guys, were you thinking like In-N-Out chef hats?
- 34:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I was.
- 34:07Speaker 4: That's what it is, yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Okay, so now we're going to go into movies.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Or TV shows. What actor played Big Giant Head on
- 34:17Speaker 3: the TV show Third Rock from the Sun?
- 34:23Speaker 2: Dude, I don't know. But I like know almost all
- 34:27Speaker 2: the actors in that except for that. I know there's
- 34:29Speaker 2: like French Stewart was the, what you call it, and
- 34:32Speaker 2: John Lithgow. He got, he wasn't that. What you call it?
- 34:35Speaker 2: Who else? The kid, Josh Gordon-Levitt.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Oh, he was in that.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he was the kid, yeah. And then what's her name?
- 34:42Speaker 2: I just blanked on it. Christy. Damn, you're good. Something.
- 34:46Speaker 1: You should get the point just because.
- 34:47Speaker 2: You can name it. I know, right?
- 34:48Speaker 3: The whole cast.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Yeah, she said big head. I thought she was going
- 34:51Speaker 1: to say Zordon from Power Rangers.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Oh, there you go.
- 34:52Speaker 3: That would have been great.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I wouldn't have known that guy either. I'm not good.
- 34:56Speaker 2: No, I don't know.
- 34:58Speaker 3: It's William Shatner.
- 34:59Speaker 1: No way.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Hell yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Isn't that wild?
- 35:01Speaker 1: How did I not remember his voice in that then?
- 35:03Speaker 2: Yeah. I know.
- 35:04Speaker 1: He's got such an iconic voice.
- 35:06Speaker 2: There's a, and it cracks me up every time. I mean,
- 35:10Speaker 2: it was on Third Rock from the Sun. And John
- 35:12Speaker 2: Lithgow is in a pirate costume. It was like a
- 35:15Speaker 2: Halloween episode. And then the guy walks up. He goes
- 35:18Speaker 2: to John Lithgow. He's like, hey, where are your buccaneers?
- 35:19Speaker 2: He's like, they're under my bucking hat. That's funny. It
- 35:25Speaker 2: was right there. It's right there.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Are we going to animals now?
- 35:30Speaker 2: All right.
- 35:31Speaker 3: What breed of cat does not have fur?
- 35:36Speaker 2: Oh. Is this....
- 35:38Speaker 1: Is it Siamese?
- 35:39Speaker 2: I was going to say Siamese as well.
- 35:40Speaker 3: It's Sphinx.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Sphinx?
- 35:42Speaker 3: You guys were so close with the S sounds. I
- 35:44Speaker 3: got it.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I was saying. And I got two cats.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I love my cats.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Aw, cat guy. Okay, so this one is going to
- 35:50Speaker 3: be in a movie kind of category.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:53Speaker 3: What rock star moonlights as a horror movie writer and director?
- 35:57Speaker 2: Oh, you know that one. Oh, damn. Homeboy who does
- 36:02Speaker 2: the Howard Stern theme music.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Nah, I don't even know what that is.
- 36:06Speaker 2: He does? Yeah. Rob Zombie? Is that what we're talking about?
- 36:08Speaker 1: I was going to say Rob Zombie, too, but I
- 36:09Speaker 1: didn't know he did that.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Because Rob Zombie did the Halloween. They did some Halloween
- 36:13Speaker 1: remakes that people liked one, but then they didn't like
- 36:15Speaker 1: the rest of them.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Or he did one.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I don't remember. But he did Halloween. He did one
- 36:19Speaker 1: of the Halloween movies.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I think he did two, but he didn't like Harvey Weinstein.
- 36:23Speaker 2: And so he was like, I need to get out
- 36:24Speaker 2: of this contract. And so he got out of the contract.
- 36:25Speaker 2: But the other ones is another guy that rebooted it,
- 36:28Speaker 2: and they didn't like the next two. Yeah.
- 36:30Speaker 1: The Blumhouse dude.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:32Speaker 3: But you're both right yes Rob Zombie there you go.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Points I think Rob Zombie also made a weird witch
- 36:37Speaker 1: movie that one of my homeboys made me go watch
- 36:40Speaker 1: with him I don't know if you've ever had this
- 36:42Speaker 1: happen where you go to a movie with your homeboy
- 36:43Speaker 1: and that movie's so bad that they tell you whatever
- 36:46Speaker 1: other movie you want to watch next they're not even
- 36:48Speaker 1: like they're gonna let you choose yeah like yo bro
- 36:50Speaker 1: whatever you want dog my bad because I'm not a
- 36:53Speaker 1: horror movie guy my boy took me to this Rob
- 36:55Speaker 1: Zombie movie and it was like with like witches and
- 36:57Speaker 1: stuff but like it was like witches and they had
- 36:59Speaker 1: like dildos it was very very weird And he looked
- 37:01Speaker 1: at me, middle of the movie, he was like, this
- 37:03Speaker 1: one's on me, bro. I'm like, yeah, it's on you, bro.
- 37:05Speaker 1: This is mad uncomfortable.
- 37:07Speaker 4: All right, kind of sticking with animals a little bit,
- 37:09Speaker 4: which animal comes from the Chinese zodiac cycle?
- 37:13Speaker 3: Which animal comes first in the Chinese zodiac cycle?
- 37:18Speaker 2: The first animal in the Chinese zodiac, I'm going to
- 37:21Speaker 2: say a bull.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Good guess.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I'm going to go rabbit.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Both good guesses. It's actually the rat.
- 37:36Speaker 1: I was going to say the rat next.
- 37:38Speaker 2: I don't want to be that guy, though. I'll be
- 37:39Speaker 2: the fucking rat.
- 37:41Speaker 3: This one's not so much trivia.
- 37:43Speaker 4: It's more like, I guess, when people take a lot
- 37:46Speaker 4: of data input. But what is the number one item
- 37:50Speaker 4: people accidentally leave at work?
- 37:54Speaker 3: The number one item.
- 37:55Speaker 1: This is like family food type stuff.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Right?
- 37:58Speaker 1: The number one item people leave.
- 38:02Speaker 2: I would say keys.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Good guess.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I'm going to say an umbrella.
- 38:07Speaker 4: We don't have that problem in Vegas, but good guess
- 38:10Speaker 4: is it's actually phone chargers.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Oh, it's an updated version of this question.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a recent survey.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but I guess it's also the thing, like, they
- 38:19Speaker 1: leave the most. I just think I always find that
- 38:21Speaker 1: when I was on the East Coast, it might be
- 38:22Speaker 1: raining or something during the day, and then, like, you're
- 38:25Speaker 1: at work all day, and then you go out at lunchtime,
- 38:27Speaker 1: and it's not raining. And then you go, oh, we're
- 38:29Speaker 1: done with the rain thing, and you just leave, and
- 38:30Speaker 1: you don't even use it. And then you get to
- 38:31Speaker 1: your house, and you're like, I don't got my phone.
- 38:33Speaker 1: And tomorrow you're just getting rained on. But you're right, though.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Other places.
- 38:36Speaker 2: I always make it to the car, and I'm like, oh,
- 38:38Speaker 2: I forgot the fucking keys. They're on my desk.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Classic.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 4: All right, we're going to go for our final question.
- 38:44Speaker 3: So you can wager. You have two points, three.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Carlos, you have one.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Yeah, two, because you knew the answer to the first question, too.
- 38:51Speaker 1: You would be real honest about that.
- 38:54Speaker 2: I don't want to cheat or anything like that.
- 38:56Speaker 3: All right, so you can wager all your points or
- 38:59Speaker 3: a point.
- 38:59Speaker 2: He's all in. You wager on a one? Yeah, just
- 39:05Speaker 2: by one. If you wager one, you automatically win. Yeah.
- 39:08Speaker 2: No matter what.
- 39:09Speaker 1: You know what? I'm going to do it for fun.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I'm going to wager both my points. There you go.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Going all in. Going all in. It's a music question.
- 39:15Speaker 1: All right.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Who is the first woman ever to be inducted into
- 39:19Speaker 3: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
- 39:22Speaker 2: The first woman to ever be inducted?
- 39:24Speaker 3: The first woman.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I would say Joan Jett.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Good guess.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Every time you say that, I know that it's wrong.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Nice try.
- 39:35Speaker 1: First woman to ever be inducted? Tina Turner.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Oh, that's a good one, too.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Tina Marie should be it, though. Yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Aretha Franklin.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 39:50Speaker 3: That was a good one guys. You did really good.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Right on.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Right on.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Really good.
- 39:54Speaker 3: I mean, Rui totally obliterated you with two points.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Not sorry.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I was gonna say, uh, so what were, uh, can
- 40:00Speaker 2: you tell the people we're going to be at in
- 40:01Speaker 2: your socials and stuff? Yeah.
- 40:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:03Speaker 1: So my social media is just, uh, my, my first name, Rui,
- 40:06Speaker 1: my last name on Tia, uh, R U I M
- 40:08Speaker 1: O N T I L L A. That's on all socials. Um, And, yeah, man,
- 40:14Speaker 1: I'm on the road right now opening up for my
- 40:16Speaker 1: boy Zoltan. So I'm about to head.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Funny dude.
- 40:19Speaker 1: That's my guy, yeah. So if you love clean comedy,
- 40:22Speaker 1: good for the family. I get to work out my
- 40:25Speaker 1: feature act as a clean guy too, which is fun.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Gets me good with my vocabulary. So I'm on the
- 40:30Speaker 1: road with Zoltan right now. We're going to be in Providence,
- 40:34Speaker 1: Rhode Island at the Comedy Connection end of June. Then
- 40:37Speaker 1: we'll be in Escondido at the Grand Comedy Club here
- 40:40Speaker 1: in San Diego County. And then for any of my
- 40:42Speaker 1: friends way out, but Chicago in November. Anybody who knows
- 40:46Speaker 1: me in Chicago, November 7th, part of the 312 Comedy Festival.
- 40:51Speaker 1: I will be at the Riviera Theater opening for my
- 40:53Speaker 1: boy Zoltan Casas. 2,500 seats. My boy got to sell
- 40:57Speaker 1: some tickets.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Nice.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I'll be there. And then, yeah, locally in San Diego,
- 41:00Speaker 1: I'm performing all the time, especially Mic Drop Comedy. You
- 41:04Speaker 1: see me a lot at Mic Drop and all the
- 41:06Speaker 1: other clubs in San Diego and bar shows all over.
- 41:09Speaker 1: So follow me on social media. I'm those folks in
- 41:11Speaker 1: the forums. And, you know, that's that's that's it.
